The text connecting Chris and Jill is “戦友” or “kanyuu” which translates to “commrade in arms; war buddy”.?
in the Revelation's bio for Chris, they called him Jill's Brother-in-arms.?
So they don't have feelings for each other?
https://www.tumblr.com/chirikalovesjill/34500920927/where-did-this-picture-come-from-please-anyone
Hello Anon! I want to start off by saying that it's okay if you don't ship Chris and Jill romantically - not everyone does. I mentioned in a previous post how I can certainly see how others would only view their relationship as platonic or coworkers. Unfortunately, the link in your question does not work so I'm sorry I can't respond to that in particular. And I am not trying to sow any discontent or attacking, I'm merely responding and enjoying my preferred ship. I hope you can understand. If we can all stay positive and respectful that would be greatly appreciated. ^_^ Chris and Jill have been fighting BOW's since the very first game. Actual canon is that they survived through the whole mansion together. They've always protected each other. So 'comrade in arms', 'war buddy, 'brother-in-arms', 'partner', 'bestest friend', 'kindred spirits', 'love of my life' are all titles they would/could use to address each other.
Also, in RE1 original, Chris and Jill were written to be romantically interested in each other. In a recent interview, the live-action actor for RE1 Chris stated that he wanted to remain as respectful as possible to Jill's actress as she was much younger than him and he knew they were supposed to be romantically linked in the story. Source: ROE Plays RESIDENT EVIL 1 w/ Original Chris Redfield (Charlie Kraslavsky)
And this cute song that plays when they are reunited: Long Lost Friend Long Lost Friend Revisited - I love how bittersweet this is, very fitting In my mind, there is definitely some romantic sweetness to this song. But Capcom likes to keep them ambiguous or seems to want to retcon them, so I don't know. Ship them or don't. Doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. I just like how mature their relationship seems - built on lasting trust and respect. Even in Death Island there were ambiguous hints of something more between them. Like, Chris staring at a smiling Jill, backlit by a beautiful setting sun, seems kind of romantic to me. ... Only to fist bump her seconds later. Guess he wanted to keep it professional and clean in front of his sister XD
Before I got into Resident Evil (Biohazard), I never really knew about any 'ships'. I had vague memories of RE2 (Cleon bby) and RE5 (my unknowing teenage self actually shipped Sheva and Chris!), but it wasn't until I actually replayed the games as an adult and explored more of the extended lore that I became a Valenfield fan (and unexpectedly, less of a Cleon shipper). And what cemented it for me even more was the supplemental RE5 guide translations!
I highly recommend any Valenfield shipper to read it here. (scroll down a little more than half way on the page to find the STORY section. It's after the different colored text timeline.)
Some quotes from this official guide book:
... Referred to as "the BSAA's ace", Chris has a brilliant track record preventing many bioterror attacks, but Chris' chest is filled with an indescribable emptiness. Many comrades have been sacrificed to repair the errors of fools. Even if the world's saved, these friends will never return. He had lost his irreplaceable former partner. ...
... Chris has nothing against having a female partner. In fact, the partner he regarded as irreplaceable was a female too. She's the perfect person whom Chris can totally trust and rely on, someone whom he believes is what he needed to complete any mission. Chris felt their teamwork was like an eagle able to escape from biohazardous danger. ...
... Chris is staring intently at a statue of a sleeping beauty. He's like a person looking at his lover through a mirror, where the other side of the mirror's a different dimension. ... The image displayed on the PDA screen issued by the BSAA isn't very good quality. The faint face is illuminated by a weak light, ... Despite that, Chris is able to recognise the person. He's been chasing this lead all the while, just so he can repair the missing piece of his heart. This can't be a mistake, nor an illusion. This is a fact. ... It's Jill, his old partner who sacrificed herself and jumped off a cliff in order to save Chris. Due to Jill's absence ever since, the BSAA have removed her from duty. But two years later, there's finally a sign that shows she may be alive after all, and this sign's appearing right in front of her partner who refuses to believe she's dead. The reason why Chris, who was from BSAA North American branch, was hoping to join this operation within Kijuju, was because he'd obtained some sort of lead leaked by Irving on the black market while he was looking for Jill. ...
... Jill, with her antibodies, has been administered P30--- Gifted with superhuman abilities, she's been given a powerful drug that controls her mind too. This evil drug is continuously injected into her body, torturing her to no end. Just as Wesker intended, Jill's receiving hell-like suffering. "I'm begging you, kill me!" ... Wesker's instruction to Jill before he leaves, which is to kill Chris who has finally come for her, plays mercilessly in her mind like an echo. The painful, unbearable order's destroying Jill mentally, and she's begging with her mind for her old partner, Chris, to end her suffering. "Don't worry about me! If this goes on I'll only end up killing both of you! Shoot me, please!" Despite that, Chris refuses to give up. Chris screams like a beast at the brainwashed Jill. He promises that even if it means giving up his life, he's going to free his partner with whom he has finally reunited, from her curse.
But again, I believe Capcom will keep their relationship more ambiguous and open to interpretation - I think they want to keep all potential shippers content. And they certainly seem to be moving towards a more 'just a good friend/co-worker' angle than before.
Which, in my opinion, cheapens the over arcing story (RE1 - 5) and relationship - but that's for another post to ramble about, I suppose.
No hard feelings if you're not a Valenfield shipper. They have a good friendship and I can totally understand if people only see them as that and nothing more.

Red Eye (2005) Early Screenplay Trivia
First of all, I'm very sorry for clogging your Red Eye/Jackson x Lisa feed with DVD commentary. I was planning to do the same with the final shooting script but I guess it will just one post with the juiciest stuff (and just give the link to the script with highlited Jackson/Lisa stuff).
Now, to the main topic of the post. In 2011 someone nicknamed "cougarlady" posted a link for Red Eye's early script draft by Carl Ellsworth on Cillian Murphy's fan forum (https://cillianforum.proboards.com/thread/4257/original-red-eye-script). The bad news is the link currenty doesn't work. The good news is one printed copy of that script still exists. If you have spare 169$ you can purchace it on e-bay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/353755359870). Another good news: some lucky fellas on the forum shared their impressions regarding the script so we have some bits and pieces of the early movie script, which is quite different from the final product. So here's what they
One more important thing to consider (it wasn't discussed on the forum) - Lisa and Jackson were meant to be older (5-10 years) than Rachel and Cillian were at the time of shooting. Especially given that Wes' first dream casting were Sean Penn and Robyn Wright (who were married at the time btw).
Lisa's backstory was different: she wasn't raped but lost her husband instead (he died). Also she had an affair with Keefe at some point. (accoriding to Cyraus)
Speaking of Keefe, he was meant to be a businessman, he only became a polititian after test screenings. (this wasn't mentioned on the forum, but you can find it out in DVD commentary and interviews maybe).
Rippner was the one to stand up to irritated passanger (Lisa didn't take part in it, I guess). (accoriding to Cyraus)
Jackson seems to be much more cruel and cold-hearted than Cillian's rendition. Users described him as narcissist and sociopath. "Also, this Script-Rippner seemed very inconsequent about his feelings for Lisa. He seems to REALLy hate her at some parts." (quote by iseebutterfly)
Jackson threatens Lisa to kill not only Joe, but her entire family. It seems like he killed her grandmother, unfortunately no context, 'cause in the movie the last part would make no sence. (according to cougarlady)
Funny enough Jackson has no tangible evidence that he can order kill anyone (unlike the movie). (according to cougarlady)
And despite this the chemistry is still present. "I love the scene where he kisses her forehead, even if just to unsettle her, but I hate that the took away this thing they had, this weird chemistry, neither of them could explain." (quote by iseebutterfly)
The early script doesn't have the lavatory scene yet. (accoriding to Cyraus)
"The part where he has her in his clutches ready to break her neck with his mouth crawling over her almost makes up for not having the lavatory scene." (quote by Cyraus)
A little bit about Jackson's name. Given his "No Lie" rule (at least when it comes to Lisa) the watchers assume it is his real name. However, Wes said in one of interviews that it is made up (to suit Lisa's father initials). A this is quite confusing tbh. Anyway the early draft suggests that Jackson's real name is... George King. And you thought Jack Rippner was bad... Although there is no consensus on whether or not "George" is his real name either. (according to Cyraus, cougarlady and iseebutterfly)
Jackson and Lisa had a dialogue where Lisa said that his is fucked. His replies are "Lisa, that language doesn't suit you." and "If you don’t look at me, you’ll get a glimpse of just how f*cked I am." There's no context unfortunately. (according to Cyraus and Cait)
The ending was different. They do not specify it. But from what we know from DVD commentary, the final fight in the Reiserts' house was Wes's idea.
P.S.: I probably missed something, so I suggest to check out the forum page yourself.

To address the anon who submitted the other post:
This is a really good question, and I actually have a psychological answer as well as literal definitions for the terms used. Note that I haven't included the original post that was sent because I don't want the person receiving anon hate for any misunderstandings. Additionally, my intentions are only to educate with this post, so I apologize if anything comes across misconstrued.
TL; DR
It's not considered bullying; it's actually considered as a snarky response (please see below the cut if you'd like more information). In psychology, sarcasm (or snarky replies, in other words) can be perceived as offensive or disrespectful because of the polarity between hyperbolic and deadpan deliveries that commonly occur in sarcastic remarks; this can occur if you don't know someone well (like what happened in the post that was sent), with people who don't like/understand sarcasm, etc. This also tends to happen frequently over text because we don't have body language, tones, eye contact, etc. to go off like we would in person.
Below The Cut
Definitions of bullying from both the Anti-Bullying Alliance and Merriam-Webster
Definition of snarky from Merriam-Webster
A breakdown of what occurred between the first & second parties in the post that was sent
Discussion of the psychology behind whether sarcasm is considered disrespectful/rude, how to spot the differences, sinister sarcasm, etc. (note that the psychology video is linked twice throughout the post: right here for the TL; DR portion and the other on the quote at the bottom of the post)
Admittedly, this isn't the most amicable way to approach someone, at least in my opinion (just to clarify, this is about the post, not the anon). However, my opinion on whether it's amicable or not is based on how I was raised and my environment (stay with me here, this plays into the psychology answer below; I know it seems like the obvious thing to say, but there's more behind it than just, "my [so-and-so] raised me better than that!" << also a bit of sarcastic humor).
While I can see and understand how it comes across as bullying, by definition, it's not considered bullying:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This person (we'll call them the "second party") isn't repeatedly or intentionally hurting anyone, there's no imbalance of power, they're not being cruel, threatening, etc. What they did do was make a sarcastic remark and state their opinion, which potentially came off as offensive to the first party and others who may read it (hence the first party stating they're "exasperated" - meaning irritated/annoyed - by the response given by the second party). The second party also points out that the first party was being sarcastic first (which is true based on the context of the ask in question and the first party's own admission, although it seems that the dynamic is set between the first party individuals because they're mutuals; this wasn't made clear until the first party stated that in their response to the second party).
It can be considered snarky.
As the second party stated, their intent was to be sarcastic. Although it probably should have been mentioned in the first place, most people don't think about stating their intent clearly the first time around; this is where most communication issues happen, because tonal/body language/etc. is lost via text, and the intent isn't clearly stated until after something has already potentially become an issue (this is why I always try to make sure my intent is clear when I speak to others, especially online).
Tumblr media
However, it's also discussed in psychology that sarcasm has two separate polarities - hyperbolic paired with a "deadpan delivery" - that some find disrespectful/offensive (video linked at the top). For example, one would be more likely to be offended by sarcasm depending on if they were raised in an environment that perceived it as criticism or being disrespectful instead of humorous. That being said, if someone doesn't know the other person well, it can have the same type of effect (especially via text, because as stated above, we rely on the words that are read rather than body language, tones, etc.), which is a perfect example of what seems to have occurred between the two parties involved in said post.
"...if you get to know someone for a long time, you'll get to see if sarcasm is their personality trait, and these type of people are normally not only sarcastic with you, they're sarcastic with multiple groups of people. So [these are] the type of individuals that I wouldn't classify as disrespectful." - Armani Talks

Hello!! I was wonder what you think about NWH? If you have seen it. Have a nice day.
hi! thank you for the question!
i hope I'll not get a lot of hate for this, but I'm not really a big fan of that movie. I wouldn't say it's the worst movie marvel has ever made, but it's not the masterpiece everyone says.
I don't have a lot to say about the plot. It's simple and not sophisticated, there are some plot holes but honestly they are present in every marvel movie . One thing I didn't understand is why Peter and Strange didn't talk APPROPRIATELY before the spell. You're telling me that Strange, a man who is a lot conscious and always careful with every plan he makes, didn't even bothered to ask Peter "hey do you want everyone to forget who you are or you want your friends to remember it?". Strange isn't a fool, I can't believe he didn't think about it before making that spell. Or maybe, he didn't even tried to convince him to do something else or make another plan. But okay, they needed a plot and even if it's poor I can go for it.
What I cannot go for it is the fact that nostalgia carried this movie. Without Andrew and Tobey, this movie would be nothing. Marvel does a lot of this lately: they make movies/shows and they make cameos to make people watch it because you know that fans will love every second of it and will concentrate only on the cameos, not the plot. That's not how you write movies. You cannot treat your fans like this, you just want to make your bag full of money and don't care about the plot or the characters.
Yes, the characters.
Honestly May's death was...rushed. We didn't see Uncle Ben in the MCU, but we know that he was there and that Peter became spiderman because of him. So what was the point in May's death? To hear the famous "with great powers comes great responsibilities" quote? We didn't need that because we already knew that Peter felt a lot of responsibility on his shoulder. We knew it from civil war, where he said to Tony that he has to do something because If he didn't help anyone with the powers he had, it would be his fault if bad things happened; We also knew it after Tony's death. Peter lived with the constant feeling that he had to be like Tony, while blaming himself for his mentor's death. What was the sense to make May say it? He already knew he had a lot of responsibility.
Another thing I want to say is how they treated Tony. In Far from home we see Peter grieving him through all the movie, he misses his father figure and now he has to live without him. Idk how Marvel thinks grief works, but nwh Peter and ffh Peter are not the same person. I can't believe he didn't mentioned him not either once. They completely erased Tony's influence in Peter's life and I'm like...what? Marvel took the little kids on twitter pressed about Tony too seriously.
And what can I say about the end... it sucked. No, i don't feel happy seeing Peter swinging though new york knowing he now has no one.
I can't see this as a new start because this is not the Moment Peter became spiderman.
Peter was already spiderman, homecoming proved that when we saw Peter learning he didn't need the suit to be a hero. He lost Ben, he blamed him self for that, he already felt the pain every other spidermen felt. There was no point in Peter losing everyone so that he could understand what being Spiderman means, because he already knew.
(IMO the spell doesn't make sense... why strange didn't go with the original spell? If he made everyone forget about Spiderman, the villains from other universes wouldn't come neither. In this movie Strange was literally dumb to agree with every nonsense plan of Peter)
I don't have a lot else to say, because I refuse to watch this movie ever again. They ruined Peter's character, and if what I heard from Spiderman 4 rumours is true... then they will have ruined him even more: They want Gwen to be the new love interest of Peter, but that doesn't make any sense. Peter decided to not tell the truth to MJ because he didn't wanted to Risk her life again, BUT he's willing to risk another life all over again? No i cannot accept that.
MCU really said fuck off and decided to bet everything on the cameos

- [Pandora's Box] -
PROMPT: A mundane and antiquated sub-agency in the US Government was the 1st to stumble across AGI. An internal investigation determined a press release unnecessary. Unaware of the power they control, 12 bureaucrats are assembled to determine the policy and implementation of their new tool.
PROMPT BY: No-Assistance1503 (Reddit)
STARTED WRITING: 03/26/2024
It’s an empty box room with no doors, windows, or vents. A large disk lowers from the ceiling, splitting into rings that create a dome above the floor. A cylinder then rises from the floor, and twelve boxes shift out from the cylinder, appearing like a table.
Pandora Network: SECURE
Eleven green bars of light begin to appear on the table’s surface as a faint wave of blue light emits from the ceiling rings.
Zeta-Blu: ONLINE Delta-Wit: ONLINE Gamma-Brn: ONLINE Lambda-Gry: ONLINE Theta-Ylw: ONLINE Kappa-Pur: ONLINE Psi-Grn: ONLINE Epsilon-Red: ONLINE Tau-Orn: ONLINE Omicron-Tel: ONLINE Iota-Pnk: ONLINE
Each name displays on the bars of lights as multiple colored orbs appear hovering over the boxes.
Translator: ONLINE. You may begin the discussion.
“Of course, Rho would be late to their own summons,” says Delta. “Disgraceful.”
“Hey, not every day we get to use this thing,” says Omicron. " And if it’s Rho calling, it’s gotta be something interesting?”
“Or another proposition for their ridiculous space military program,” says Iota. “We should be focused on fixing problems here, not antagonizing aliens.”
“Not all of us have great off-planet relations, Iota,” says Kappa. “Some must prepare for the day where we may have to protect our own kind.”
“Who’s fault is that?” asks Iota.
“God bless, not this again,” says Zeta. “I’ll vote to mute the both ya if you keep bringing this up!” A few of the other orbs speak up in agreement. Iota groans as their orb lowers closer to their seat.
Rho-Blk: ONLINE
A black orb appears over the last empty seat, breathing heavily.
“I’m sorry…I’m sorry I’m late,” says Rho. “It’s been nonstop for a while, lost track of time.”
“About damn time,” says Delta. “Why did you summon us?” Rho takes a few deep breaths as the ticking sound of a keyboard plays through his orb. Holographic images of a statue of Shiva, Jesus Christ on the cross, and another statue of Caishen appear at the center of the table.
“You’ve got to be kiddin me,” groans Zeta.
“Over the years, each of our respective government organizations has found objects that resonate with faint traces of, quote, “Godly Essence.” Says Rho. With the press of a button, the Shiva statue turns into a cracked black bead, the cross into a rubber mallet with a wooden handle, and the Caishen statue into a new renminbi coin (Chinese currency). “These objects have been classified as “God Idols” and have been known to grant those who wield them with abilities related to said god.
“Yes, yes, we know all this!” Delta interrupts. “Can we finally move on to why you have called us?!”
“Just making sure we’re on the same page,” says Rho. “Not all of us are experts on all things godly. Speaking of which, Lambda, correct me if I’m wrong. God Idols can only be created from objects that have come in direct contact with gods, their power, or chosen offspring?”
“That is true,” says Lambda. “Their power may also be shared with anything bonded to the God Idol, as we discovered when my people encountered a truck with a Hoplite helmet branded with the mark of Hephaestus welded to the hood.”
“I heard about that,” says Epsilon. “The vehicle was nearly unstoppable.”
“The operative word being nearly,” says Lambda. “Every vehicle needs gas eventually. Apologies, Rho, you may continue.”
“Thanks,” says Rho. “So, can anyone tell me about this God Idol?” An image of a rod appears. It comprises several different metals with circular markings forming a ring around the center. Copies of the rod split off from the original, floating over to the other eleven orbs. The room is mostly silent, save for the quiet mumblings of people talking away from their monitors. Over time, one by one, each of the other orbs returns.
“Could it be an Eldrich or Dimensional God?” asks Theta.
“Impossible,” says Kappa. “The energy is too contained, too controlled. A combination of God Idols?”
“The energy’s too unique,” says Zeta, “and even if it were, God Idols rarely meld, let alone completely.”
“Possibly a New God?” asks Psi.
“Unlikely,” says Iota, “the gods are gossips. Between Lambda, Gamma, and I, we would have heard something long before a New God could create a God Idol.”
“What if a god didn’t create it?” asks Rho. “What if a man did?”
“Rho, while I appreciate you researching existential science,” says Lambda, “but that’s…impossible.”
“Is it?” asks Rho.
“Yes!” says Delta.
“What creates a god?” asks Rho. “An idea, raised by belief, given form by praise, creates a god. Someone desperately wants it to rain, so much so that they cry out to the sky for it to happen, and when it rains, they praise the sky. Thus, Anzar, the God of Rain, is born above Africa, Chaac for the Mayans, and good ole Zeus for the Greeks.”
“A bit oversimplified,” says Iota.
“But not wrong,” says Rho. “So, what if, instead of calling out above, I called out to…Delta. I put all of my faith into the idea that whatever hardship I faced, Delta would save me.”
“You’d be mad and run one of those cults with the poison juice bowl,” says Delta.
“Not if I was right,” says Rho. A holographic screen appears over the table, playing a video of an experiment. Inside a white room, five people are asleep on gurneys with helmets strapped to their heads. The helmets have a few devices on them, as well as empty tubes that connect to the ceiling. In the middle of the room is the God Idol sitting on a pedestal at the center of a ring on the floor.
A bald, pale man in a white jumpsuit walks to the God Idle. Once inside the ring, a glass tube rises from the floor containing the man. The man looks past the camera, nods, and grips the God Idle firmly with both hands. The helmets' devices activate, and a glowing blue liquid flows through the tubes from the ceiling into the helmets. The five subjects’ eyes open, pupils rolling into the back of their heads, their bodies convulsing as they repeat, “Lucas will save me!” frantically.
As the subjects chant faster, an unnatural wind enters the tube with Lucas, whipping around him like a tornado. Lucas struggles to hold onto the God Idol. His knees begin to buckle, and he jerks his body away from the idol at random. Small bolts of electricity begin to jump from the glass tube as the man screams. The subjects' noses begin to bleed, their speech becomes inaudible, and in a flash of light, the video cuts to static.
“The God Idol was found when an unnamed American Government Agency raided a lab, not a cult, a lab outside of Old Forge, New York, at around midnight three weeks ago,” says Rho. “When the men found the room where this footage was shot, they claimed that the room was so cold that they could feel it in their blood, that looking at the God Idol froze them in place. Sound familiar?”
“Death,” says Psi. “But why…”
“Because the idol did its job,” says Rho, “it saved them.” The video rewinds to just before the flash of light. The screen changes the display to a blue tint, showing five glowing white blurs going from each subject toward the God Idol.
“A soul flask?” says Iota, “like that of Pharaoh Anubis’ flail?”
“But all gods respect Death’s vessel and his reapers,” says Psi, “thus no soul should be able to defy Death’s grasp!”
“Unless a god willed it so,” said Delta, “That man wasn’t a god. He was a conduit, a vessel to transfer the Godly Essence from the subjects to the…”
“Artificial God Idol,” says Rho, “or AGI-Krypt, as we’ve been calling it. After thorough testing, we’ve found that the five souls trapped inside are bound completely to whoever wields the AGI. They can enter and leave bodies, communicate telepathically through the idol, and are unable to be taken by Death’s vessel or his reapers.”
“Dear God,” says Zeta. “What about the scientists? What was recovered from the laboratory.”
“Easy,” says Rho, “copies were sent while you looked over the AGI earlier.”
“We must destroy that…abomination!” yells Gamma.
“Whoa!” Rho interjects.
“I agree,” says Lambda, “to defy Death is to resign yourself to a fate even the Eldrich fear.”
“…But what is there to fear of a being that can grasp you?” asks Kappa.
“You cannot be serious?” says Iota. “Not even you would be mad enough to defy Death?!”
“No,” says Kappa, “but as we all know, Death tends to cast his rage as wide as it can reach, and many innocents will be taken in its pursuit of justice. This AGI could prevent unnecessary casualties.”
“This…is true,” says Psi.
“Psi, one such as yourself should know better than…” says Gamma.
“I do, but I am also one of a select few of us who still must pay off the debt my predecessors,” says Psi, “and this could help with that.”
“Besides,” says Epsilon, “Death’s probably already begun its crusade. All we can do now is mitigate the damage.”
“You think using the thing that’s pissing off Death just by existing will mitigate the damage?” asks Omicron, “are you outta ya mind?” The room breaks down into a pile of arguments, save for one member.
“ENOUGH!” yells Zeta. The room quickly falls silent. “I call for a vote. Whichever side wins, we will follow. However, if we do end up using the AGI, those against are allowed to recuse themselves either now or in the future. Are we in agreement?”
“…Aye…”
Voting Commencing…

Author Ask Tag Game
My thanks to @doublegoblin for tagging me here!
This is going to mostly be in the context of The Tectomancy Saga -
(1) What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it?
I don't know if I can say there's a singular main lesson or message that the story is meant to provide. Different characters will learn different things. I want Releine to realise that she has inherent value and isn't only defined by what she can do for other people; I want Almyra to learn that even smaller goals are victories; I want Jessa to learn that you don't have to be who other people expect you to be; I want Tenacity to learn that your goals, however noble, can't come before the people you care about. And I just want Ellimane to get her shit together quite frankly. I don't know that I chose them so much as that that's where those character arcs seem to want to go. I guess they're things I've had to learn to some extent in life.
(2) What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)?
I honestly find that very hard to pin down! I guess I owe a lot to certain authors in terms of the kind of things I find fun to think about and write ideas from. I guess they would be: Terry Pratchett, Paul Stewart & Chris Riddell, Garth Nix, and Tamsyn Muir. Worlds full of weird creatures, worlds that are weird shapes, worlds that have an edge you can fall off, worlds that are full of cryptic magic. I think I have at least that group of people to thank for getting my brain going. And of course, I have to pay mention to fairy tales and their long history of putting Princesses in towers and guarding them with dragons - that was the whole thing that made me think "and what if the Princess loves the dragon?" in the first place.
(3) What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, help readers grow as a person?
Mostly I think I just want others to love them as much as I do. That's a lot of the fun of reading to me, at least - get attached to someone funky and fucked-up and see where they go. Adore them for their wits and weird quirks, and the things they turn to in themselves when the situation is dire. I want readers to worry for them, post their favourite quotes on tumblr, think about them when they're cooking and cleaning! That's what I do when I love a character.
(4) How many chapters is your story going to have?
Well, MWC&C ended with 47 chapters, and BBS&B is currently on chapter 40 and will probably run longer than its predecessor. There are two more books I can think of in the main sequence, so I'd guess roughly 200+. There are a couple of prequel novels I could write, and I had an idea for a sequel trilogy, but I guess whether I invest in that depends on if I can get anyone reading the original books!
(5) Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?
It's original content all the way. I'm hoping to get a chance to publish it (agents, please call me), but if all else fails, I guess I'll try and self-publish somehow. Marketing is not one of my great skills though, so it'll be a challenge.
(6) When and why did you start writing?
November 2021. I've talked about this before, but I lost my love of reading for a number of years, mostly because I was depressed and also trying to read the wrong kind of books for me just because I thought that they were the kinds of things that people should read. In 2021 I finally had to know who the spooky bone lesbians on my dash were and read Gideon the Ninth. Then that year I inhaled a dozen more sapphic books and remembered that as well as liking reading, I loved to write once upon a time (har har) and thought I'd give that another go.
(7) Do you have any words of engagement for fellow writers of Writeblr? What other writers of Tumblr do you follow?
What are words of engagement?! Are we courting, or is it pistols at dawn?! I guess I would say - assuming we're talking about interacting with other writers - don't be afraid to just come and chat with me about stuff. If I say something that reminds you of one of your characters, or something about your world, then please tell me, because I'll probably like that too. We can show stuff off to one another and play with our characters like dolls. If you mean words of encouragement, I'd say this: Even a little bit of writing is still writing. Don't beat yourself up if you don't have the energy to bash out thousands of words in a sitting. Do a few hundred; a paragraph; a sentence. You'll get there eventually. And don't bum yourself out waiting for inspiration - sometimes the best inspiration is just typing a horrifically bad sentence. Doing that makes me want to write the next one better.
I follow too many writers to list, but I'm going to tag some for this game (very, very gently), so - @sam-glade @indy-gray @aalinaaaaaa @comicgoblinart

How Obey Me Shot Itself In the Foot: Michael, Part 1
MASSIVE WARNING FOR DISCUSSION OF RELIGION. Specifically of Abrahamic religions (Islam, Christianity, and Judaism) and their shared God. I am doing this in a media analysis context, not to shame any particular religion or anyone’s particular beliefs. If that makes you uncomfortable, feel free to not read this post, stop reading at any point, and/or unfollow/block me. DO NOT try to start religious discourse on this post or in my askbox/DMs, I will clown on and block you.
Also spoiler warnings for a ton of different Obey Me lessons.
Intro (X), Michael (you're here)(X)(X)(X), Conclusion (X)(X)
Part 2 of my way-too-long-essay about why Raphael should definitely try to kill MC. We are still not at the part where I discuss why he should. But we'll get there.
The next rung down from Sky Daddy Himself is Michael. At least, it tends to be him in Abrahamic mythologies. Considering that Michael Obey Me is acting as Diavolo’s foil in many ways, that seems to be maintained in the game. But he’s also foiled against Lucifer: in Abrahamic mythology as the one who defeats him, and in Obey Me as a brother, even a “twin”. And Lucifer is both a leader (as both leader of one side of the Celestial War, and as patriarch of his family) and a right hand man (to Diavolo, and likely formerly to God in a shared position with Michael).
We know a few scattered facts about Michael:
He is physically the complete opposite of Lucifer (according to Satan)
He can drink like a champ, keeping up with Raphael and Lucifer (this just amuses me to think about)
He likes sweets (mentioned several times throughout the game, most often by Luke and Simeon)
On that note he can be kinda childish and whiny (he once, to quote the wiki, “moped dramatically” when Raphael and Lucifer didn’t bring him any human world food from their trip there)
Lucifer has described him as “too upfront about his desires” and others have also called him very strict and demanding, putting a lot of responsibility onto those under him.
He’s Luke’s mentor/supervisor, as he sees a lot of potential in him. It’s Simeon who says Luke was chosen for the exchange program so he could learn more about the three realms.
He likes astronomy (apparently he taught Mammon and Luke about human world constellations, and Lucifer annoyed him by visiting the first Celestial Realm planetarium when it opened before him — a planetarium that Michael himself asked Raphael to make)
He’s the current leader of the angels (mentioned by Barbatos)
He used to be Mammon’s mentor, but later pushed him onto Lucifer because he didn’t know how to handle him
On that note, Mammon says that whatever punishment Michael would subject him to back in the day still gives him shivers to think about — and this is coming from a guy who gets strung up to the ceiling by Lucifer nigh constantly (still-a-morosexual-help has an excellent post about this!)
He was the one originally sent to the Devildom as a liaison, but made Lucifer go in his stead
He often wanders the great hall in the Celestial Realm palace, staring at the place where the brothers’ portraits used to be, lost in thought (Luke attributes this to missing them)
He keeps a collection of Lucifer’s things, including the ring of light, which he quickly notices is missing after Simeon steals it for MC
It’s a pretty safe bet to say that he’s responsible for Simeon’s loss of his angelic abilities (which turned him human?! God i need to make a separate post breaking that shit down), possibly even his first demotion from seraph to archangel
With Simeon’s help, he once sent the brothers mind-controlling bangles that made them act like “proper angels” for a party (angelic demons event — not letting go of that shit btw, that was fucked up)
He’s broadly respected by those who work for/with him, even if he’s not always easy to work with based on the other shit we know
He seems generally on board with the exchange program, but has some kind of tension with Diavolo: he once used Simeon to threaten him, saying that he didn’t like Diavolo’s habit of keeping secrets and that if anything were to be found out that impacts the Celestial Realm, there would be Consequences
I cannot find a source for this bc the ring of light is mentioned like, Once on the wiki, but I’m pretty sure when that all came up, Solomon mentions having a ring of wisdom he got from Michael, which is another tidbit from Abrahamic mythology.
There’s a lot happening there, and some of these traits seem difficult to reconcile into one cohesive character.
So fuck that! Let’s look at Michael’s character through three lenses: as a surrogate for God/Father, as Diavolo’s equal and opposite, and as Lucifer’s foil. (These categorizations, you’ll see, won’t be mutually exclusive, but that’s kind of the point.)

The bbeg of the Never After is Homogenization.
~beware my ramble~
The erasure and sanitization of stories that then get commodidified and distributed on mass to be the "right version" of the story that then become almost the "only version" of the story. Erasing centuries of culture and influence, beliefs and experiences, real world problems that these stories portray, and replacing them with the most marketable version.
And in a way, the stories themselves end up cannibalizing their different versions to fit in as the "right version" or just the nature of time combining and losing stories over time.
Like all of the worlds and groups are from folklore. Stories that have been told over and over again, that change to fit the world and the message that needs to be conveyed. Folklore isn't supposed to have a "right version". Much like weaving, the basics of cloth weaving are very similar all over the world but what is made with those techniques, the styles and additional learned cultural practices, can be so very different or so weirdly similar you wouldn't believe they came from different places across the globe from one another.
But in our more modern era where all of our stories feel factory made, we know where they come from, they aren't "folk" in so so many ways. The closest we get to folk media these days are MEMES. They are passed around and shared, often the original poster gets lost or is not common knowledge, have real world effect and meaning, and exist mainly in a specific group culture (internet culture, tumblr culture, etc) To quote my old professor "All folklore are memes, but not all memes are folklore" Think Creepy pasta vs horror movie. Internet legends, "send to 10 friends or blank will happen to you". BLORBO is a folk term. Slang in general I believe is counted as folk based. FANFICTION IN MANY CASES IS CONSIDERED FOLKORE BTW and I find that sooo delightful.
And whats kills memes faster than anything? The commodification of it! When companies go "ooo that'll make us some money" and take it and sell it back to us for profit. Often these days it feels choc full of advertisements and versions of propaganda.
In this era of Disney overlords defining the genre of fairytales to the point that they have set the standard for what is cannon for certain stories they tell. Like the first time I found REAL fairytales I was like 9 and cried myself to sleep because they got so dark, and how were we (me and my mom) to know with how we expected the disneyfied version of the story. Ironically it could be said that the Grimm's Brothers are guilty of the exact same thing in their era, commodifying and centralizing their versions of the stories.
I could also get into the demonization of tropes (lookin at you cinema sins) because tropes are the building blocks of story telling. Common themes and elements that we recognize because they MEAN something to us.
But, and I know what site I'm on, fanfiction is a great example of taking those stories and in some ways turning them into folklore. Its not because we believe we can tell the stories better, in most cases at least, but rather that we take the elements, characters, ideas that we connect to that we love and mean something to us, and make play with it because we have our own stories to tell.
The Homogenization and restricting of what counts and what doesn't ignores the importance of the differences in the stories.
Ylfa's "right" version is a lot like how the animals describe being part of Aesop's fables. There's no nuance. There's no room for change and adaptation. And in a world ever changing, even in bad ways, you have to change to make it work. Even Gerard's "Sometimes you have to be scary in a scary world" touches on this. The barebones basic Little Red Ridinghood is unrealistic in its simplicity. And also kinda blocks out how that whole experience would still be heavily traumatic for anyone (being attacked by a wolf and seeing your granny crawl out of the wolf's destroyed body ain't pretty) , even if it is better than the experience in this life. Meanwhile the more they die, the more versions of their stories get cannibalized and lost to time. Much like how folklore and stories die when culture dies.
Also Stepmom literally consumes story elements into non existence.

🐱 + reyna!
If they're a light or heavy sleeper:
Definitely a light sleeper
What they would do if they won the lottery right now:
She’d probably find a way to save it so she could use it in case she landed in trouble somehow (she knows she’s the daughter of Vibe, and she knows how the world perceived metas…and their children). She might also use it to buy some power-dampening backups off the black market…if she can do so without anyone but her family finding out.
If they have a special item that they couldn't bear to lose:
The power-dampening necklace that was originally Caitlin’s. Not only because it dampens her powers (which she has a complicated relationship with), but because her dad gave it to her 🥺
One negative personality trait of theirs:
Very stubborn and holds fierce grudges. Growing up in a world where so many of her loved ones are hated for just being themselves, she doesn’t have much patience for anyone who even hints at disparaging them…and she’s hard-pressed to forgive such a slight.
Their favorite 70s song:
I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor! She hasn’t heard a lot of 70s songs, but of the few she’s heard, she loves that one 💞
The color(s) associated with their zodiac:
She’s a Capricorn, so…brown, gray, and green? Though it’s ironic, considering she’s more of a blue-associated character 😂
Their favorite comedy movie:
Guardians of the Galaxy. Nostalgic, for her, in a way that feels realistic for how old she is 😂
About one person they've lost:
Cynthia, her birth mom. In canon, she dies in s6, but here, she’s alive (because when Nora was introduced in s5, Cynthia wasn’t slated to die in the future). Still, to Reyna’s mind (and in a way, she’s right), she lost her birth mom to the Collectors, before even getting a chance to know her.
As much as Cynthia tries to be involved in Reyna’s life (even offering to train her as a Collector when the anti-meta laws got really bad), as much as Reyna knows on some level that Cynthia loves her (and vice versa)…she’s still angry that Cynthia chose to walk away from them instead of fighting for her relationship with Cisco…even after Reyna was born.
ofc, this is not true—Cynthia wanted to keep up the relationship, but Cisco is the one who set the boundary and called it off, recognizing that neither of them were truly happy. But, seeing as Cisco is at least somewhat more present in her life than Cynthia is (as much as he can be, being a criminal in the eyes of ARGUS and all), Reyna doesn’t fully realize Cisco’s part in everything.
A quote I associate with them:
“When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.”
Reyna is not always an optimist by nature. But her loved ones give her that optimistic strength 💞
If they're a lover or a fighter:
This…is a bit more complicated. She’s a fighter, though not the same way Morgan is. She has no desire to be a superhero of any kind—she’s a fighter in that she keeps her trust close, keeps to herself, and doesn’t give second chances or trust easily. She does love, very much, but only those in her inner circle (her dad, her stepmom, her best friend, her two aunts. Her birth mom too, on their occasions when Reyna isn’t angry at her)

This is a side tangent kinda but if my memory is correct in lm2 E Gadd is pretty lackadaisical about the treatment of any of his assistants. Like there’s several toad assistants you have to save and E Gadd kinda says he lost contact with them and just kinda never got around to like following up on that, which to be fair the ghosts in lm2 weren’t hostile til like immediately before the game but still. And uh I think E Gadd starts the game fairly dismissive of luigi and his fears and kinda gets nicer to him as it goes? Like he definitely jokes about luigi being a blind test for some of the pixelator teleport tech and such- not to mention he did kidnap luigi straight outta his house despite luigi not agreeing to help. But E Gadd seems to respect luigi more especially towards the end of lm2? And like he is pretty panicked when the last dark moon piece comes back to base alone instead of with luigi when that happens pre final boss, or whenever he loses contact with luigi bc he’s too far underground for a good call signal in a mission. He also isn’t dismissive of luigi wanting to save Mario once that comes up partway into the game, and I think even comforts luigi about it. Unlike lm3 where E Gadd just kinda wants to book it outta there with luigi once he’s freed. So uh all in all, I’d say E Gadd respects Luigi pretty highly when compared to like anyone else he interacts with, but also E Gadd in lm2 and especially 3 has really slid into the mad scientist who mostly only cares for his work role, tho even original lm E Gadd wasn’t exactly being nice with his whole turning ghosts into paintings thing, barring maybe a ghost that was fine with it.
oh okay that's good to know at least. i am going only off of the quotes list on the wiki and i do not get that impression so much from there but i'll trust you on that one.
e gadd being a ghost hunter and collector and the ethics of that in general are another thing that i'm not really considering or going into rn though like it is definitely something that's also fucked up 😭😭 i did hear that thing about the toad assistants too, he can't tell them apart and when you find them and tell he's like "oh joy! shame i have to give em their pay now though" 💀 top ten guys ever
i do still feel like even with that in mind he was just way nicer to luigi in lm1 than dark moon and lm3 in general. yknow? he just felt like a more considerate character and a lot of his dialogue is like. idk i feel like e gadd in lm3 would never say something like this
Tumblr media
i just like how he was written more in the original game 😔

Elvis & Austin!Elvis Ask Game
I was tagged by the beautiful @lindszeppelin to participate in this super fun ask game! Yay! It’s taken me a hot minute to get this post out because I haven't been super active on Tumblr as of late and for that, I’m dearly sorry.
These questions were originally coined by @aconflagrationofmyown and here is the original post for anyone that wants to try it :)
Tumblr media
When and what was your first exposure to Elvis Presley?
I can’t say there’s a definite moment where I was exposed to him. I had always known of him, but only the gravely misconstrued version. I knew that he wore sparkly flared jumpsuits, that a bunch of people impersonate him to this day, and that he sang Can’t Help Falling in Love. Honestly, I didn't know him at all, not like I do now, at least
And what was your first impression?
I didn't have much of an impression. I gleamed off of the impersonators saying “thank you, thank you very much” and thought it was sort of silly. I didn't understand the outfits or sideburns at all lol.
Lace shirts or jumpsuits?
NOW LISTEN... that is a difficult question to answer because the lace shirt and the jumpsuit are two completely different eras of EP. I have to say the lace shirt because every picture that comes to my mind is of him when he was young, smiley, and unrefined. I associate it with super happy EP so I choose that, but don't mistake me, y'all. I love me some jumpsuit Elvis.
You can steal one of Elvis/Austin’s outfits, whats it going to be?
Dude.... I don't even know. Okay, off the top of my head I thought of the all black attire Austin!Elvis wore during the Trouble performance. I feel like I could definitely rock that outfit with the red tie and some dark, smoky makeup. If we are going all out though, I wouldn’t mind wearing the iconic double leather of the 68 comeback special.
C’mon, we know you’ve been watching/reading old interviews and random footage of the man, so what’s your favorite random Elvis quote?
This whole moment right here. First time I heard it, I laughed so hard that there were tears coming from my eyes. It’s the silliest joke, but I love it with all my heart. Plus, I think that EP’s answer was a really smart way to deflect the question (whether or not that was his intention)
Did you find Austin Butler’s lips distracting despite them being in a movie about the King of plush upper lips? (Be honest now)
Yes, absolutely his lips are distracting. I don’t consciously watch them but some scenes you can’t help but admire the beauty that is Austin Butler. He’s a handsome man, indeed.
Tumblr media
What’s an aspect of Elvis’ character you wish more people appreciated?
The serious side of Elvis. I think that he is misconstrued as being a flamboyant sex symbol (which in many cases he was) that his actual personality gets lost in translation. I’ve read that he was reserved and loved having deep, intellectual conversations with others. Not to mention I have seen people report the well hidden loneliness that permeated him often. I think it’s sometimes forgotten that he’s human like the rest of us... and that saddens me. Also, his extremely giving heart for charity.
You meet Col. Tom Parker for the first time, forewarned with the knowledge of what a scumbag he is, what do you do?:  A. nothing, you’re a coward who doesn’t care about abused golden-hearted men B. you give the Colonel a stern telling off C. you encourage Elvis to leave him and break the contract E. you slap a legal document against that fat suit and declare “Mrs. Claus is bringing you a lawsuit” F. you waste no time with formalities, it’s a letter opener to the juggler for that piece of trash
These answers are hilarious! I would choose C. I’d try to use my 5 years of therapy to explain to EP that he’s being manipulated by a narcissist and that his golden, giving heart needs to be rid of parasitic relationships.
What was your favorite aspect/scene from the Elvis 2022 movie?
Other than the whole movie? Lols. I love a lot of scenes. The beginning where they show young Elvis’s spiritual awakening through the tent revival is my favorite. That scene is referenced throughout the movie, like it grounds EP to go back to his roots. The concept of flyin’ away is this beautifully heartbreaking dream and I both connect to and sympathize with. Plus, I’m a Christian so seeing little Elvis experience the Holy Spirit always gives me chills.
You can choose only one song or piece of media to convince someone to become an Elvis fan, what is it going to be?
This is really difficult to answer because I feel like EP is misrepresented so much. I’d probably start with his music, ask what the person likes and play something of his along those lines. Then, I'd show some concert clips of him being silly and human.
How many children would you give Elvis Presley from your own -or theoretical- womb? (listen to the beast in ya, your feminism won’t serve you here)
I’m willing to give two or three. I have medical issues that limit me from popping out a ton of little humans so that’s my limit lols.
Where are you hanging out with EP, his bedroom with the teddy bears, Club Handy, his private jet or Graceland?
I’m a wicked introvert so probably Graceland. I love tranquil time alone spent reading and cuddling. I'd love to just talk to him, or sit in silence while holding one another. (I'm so sappy omg). For fun though? Club Handy. I’d love to have a dirty dancing moment there.
What is the peak Elvis era? warning, this says an awful lot about you…
All eras are peak Elvis era, let’s be real. But I have a mad crush on 60s Elvis. The early 60s all the way to the 68 comeback special and to 1970 is just... a lot to wrap my mind around.
Tumblr media
How long have you been an Austin Butler fan (be honest now, God is watching)
I wasn’t a fan, more of an admirer. I thought he was really cute in Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure and probably had a crush before that from his Disney appearances.
What kind of Elvis chick are you? -a 1950’s prospective wife material that he’s already sampled, a 1960’s filmset fling or a Vegas torrid backstage affair?
I don't want to be anybody’s fling or affair, even the famed Elvis Presley himself. At the same time, I don’t want to be someone he’s merely sampled. However, if we are totally flinging my standards out the window, filmset fling because I feel it’d last longer than a Vegas affair.
Is Austin Butler an honorary southerner now? Answer options: A. hell no, California can keep his sweet cheeks. B. hell yes, he’s practically been possessed by the soul of the King of the South
Now listen, as a southerner I deeply approve of the respectful way that Austin portrayed the nuances of a southern accent. He’s welcome anytime to my part of the south!!
Tumblr media
Pick your poison in the fan-fiction realm: angst, fluff, smut, fluffy smut, angsty fluff, angsty smut?…or is reading about Elvis Presley an acknowledged health hazard?
I gravitate toward plain fluff and angsty fluff.
Spit or swallow for this man? (And if you don’t understand this question move right along)
If he wifed me up, swallow. I will not elaborate.
Would Gladys approve of you? Take your above answer into consideration
I sure hope she would! I know she and EP had a close bond so I think I'd be more concerned with not wanting her to feel like I’m taking her son away from her. I’d try to find a balance between respect, boundaries, and love/care. I’d definitely bake her some really good food and sweets.
Which of Elvis’ cars is your favorite?
I’m not well versed with his car collection so I’m afraid the default answer would be the pink Cadillac. However, as I’m scoping out pictures, I really like the Continental Mark II and the Stutz Blackhawk III (that one is so sexy omg).
What are your odds for besting this man at karate?
None. I don’t know any martial arts. That man would chop me in half in zero seconds flat (and he’s welcome to).
If you could meet Elvis and have enough composure to tell him something, what would it be?
I’d tell him that what he did, has done, and will do will last for generations. It’s impactful, he is impactful. I’d also tell him he’s not alone in his loneliness and that I’m sorry for all the loss he’s been through.
What’s a hobby or pastime of yours you wish you could share with Elvis/Austin!Elvis
Reading!! I’d love to curl up next to him and read a book together. Or, to have EP read to me as I nurse a tea and close my eyes to listen to his voice (bye I’m going to make this a fic)
What’s the Elvis 2022 quote you’ve been mumbling to yourself ever since you heard it?
“There’s a lotta people sayin’ a lot of things, but in the end you gotta listen to yourself.”
What are your top 3 go-to Elvis songs?
STOP!! I cannot choose in good conscience because I haven’t heard an Elvis song I don’t love, granted I’m fairly new to being a fan of his. I’ll list the top three that I’ve been listening to lately:
It Feels So Right, Memories, and Baby What You Want Me To Do.
If you could spare him one tragedy what would it be?
I’m gonna join the bandwagon of everyone else here and say the death of Gladys. I think he would’ve been less burdened and emotionally damaged.
Is there a modern artist that sorta scratches for you the itch that Elvis’ absence leaves?
No one can fill his shoes. He’s so unique and unlike anyone else. However, I am a fan of many kpop groups and when I see my favs in concert, I felt the same thrill that I felt when watching Elvis 2022 and real life Elvis content.
How did you react at the end of the movie when In the Ghetto started to play A. I got up and fixed a snack because I have no soul, B. I left feeling alarmingly horny, C. I was impressed but didn’t realize how affected I was until days later when it was still with me D. I cried buckets they had to bring in a mop E. I may have appeared emotionless but in fact my soul was leaving my body and I don’t think it’s returned quite yet
I’m a mix of C nd E. I was so shocked and dazed from the movie that I couldn’t really process anything. I felt a heaviness in my heart from that ending for the following 3 days and couldn’t think of anything else, still can’t and it’s been like over a month. I’m in this for life #inachokeholdforelvis
If you’ve got a favorite gif or photo insert it here and bless us all
Literally he looks gorgeous 25/8 so I can’t really chose just one, but this Elvis has been living rent free in my mind ever since I saw it at the end of the movie. When I tell you my stomach sank to my toes!1!1!1!1

notes on chapter 4
Chapter begins with a quote by Diedrich Knickerbocker, who was a fictional character (persona) used by Washington Irving to narrate the burlesque "A History of New York" in 1809.
Troubles in the house begin after a wedding. The first time the family had left since moving in, they expected to come home (marriage usually acts as culmination to stories, should have been the end).
"Quite the contrary, the horror was atypical." (pg 24)
"... strange spatial violation (pg 24) and first reference to Heidegger's idea of "unheimlich".
Another reference to existentialism on pg 25.
On pg 25, he splits up the word nonsense so it reads non-sense. Interesting emphasis.
The colors of ink Johnny sees on pg 26:
Rootbeer
Midnight Blue
Cochineal
Mauve
Light Doe
Lilac
South sea green (Rime of the Ancient Mariner)
Maize (corn/maize is important to native myths, important considering Amber Rightacre from later on is part Native. Also a reference to corn mazes/labyrinths.
Pelican black. Pelican will have increasing significance (see Pelican poems on pg 573)
Camera lucida: an instrument in which rays of light are reflected by a prism to produce on a sheet of paper an image, from which a drawing can be made (pg 27)
"The phone has been ringing. Nine times and counting, my boss announces." (pg 27)
Does the monster appear to Johnny before Will?
Pgs 27-28, when Johnny tries to remember the monster once he is out of the hallway, he tries to remember a woman and her perfume. Reference to his mother, but also Grendel's mother? (Grendel/Beowulf reference from last chapter) Directly referencing Eurydice as well, in the following footnote.
"Maybe it had just brushed past me, like someone easing by in a dark room, the face lost in shadow, my thoughts lost in another conversation, though something in her movement or perfume is disturbingly familiar, though how familiar is impossible to tell because by the time I realize she's someone I should know she's already gone, deep into the din, beyond the bar, taking with her any chance of recognition. Thought she hasn't left. She's still there. Embracing shadows.//Is that it?//Had I been thinking about a woman?//I don't know.// I hope it doesn't matter.// I have a terrifying feeling it does." (pg 28)
"... the impact of such an implausible piece of reality could force anyone to question their own perceptions." (pg 28)
"But why? And for that matter, to quote Rilke, Wer?" (pg 28) The above quotation from pg 28 mirrors Orpheus's own experience after he glances back at Eurydice on the road out of Hades. Find the poem HERE
Quote from poem: "She was already loosened like long hair// and surrendered like rain//and issued like massive provisions.//She was already root."
Elided (pg 28): ommitted when speaking.
Ell (pg 29): a former measure of length (equivalent to 6 hand breadths) used mainly for textiles, locally variable but typically about 45 inches. Origin: Old English, of Germanic origin: from Indo-European root shared by Latin ulna. Compare w/ elbow and also w/ cubit. (The measure was originally linked to the length of the human arm or forearm). These measurements are referenced on pg. 571, in the sketches Johnny makes on the back of an envelope.
Navidson has a skin condition flaring up on his feet? (pg 29)
"Karen refuses the knowledge. A reluctant Even who prefers tangerines to apples. "I don't care," She tells Navidson. "Stop drilling holes in my walls." (pg 30)
"...now a Nile of caffeine wending past glass and politics until there is nothing more than a brown blot on the morning paper." (30-31) after Will has been experimenting w/ surface tension. In the corresponding note, Johnny misspells it "mourning paper". Calls back to mind Rilke's poem, lines 47-56:
"This woman who was loved so much, that from one lyre more mourning came than from women in mourning; that a whole world was made from mourning, where everything was present once again: forest and valley and road and village, field, river and animal; and that around this mourning-world, just as around the other earth, a sun and a silent star-filled sky wheeled, a mourning-sky with displaced constellations–: this woman who was loved so much . . ."
Also, this is significant that it happens at the kitchen table with his family - in a quintessentially domestic scene. Johnny wants to cut this, but saves it in order to preserve the voice of the narrator (Zampano). A point where the authors are interacting with themselves (perhaps a call0back to Knickerbocker at the beginning) (pg 31)
"... more and more these days, I'm struck by the fact that everything Zampano had is really gone, including the bowl of betel nuts left on his mantle or the battered shotgun bearing the initials RLB under the bed..." (pg 31) - Betel nuts are a stimulant drug, which means it speeds up the messages travelling between the brain and body. Chewing these is a cultural practice in some regions of south and southeast Asia. While benefits include - feeling relaxed and happy, - feeling alert, bad side effects include - tremors - dizziness - upset stomach, vomiting - psychosis.
RLB Initials: Forum consensus was Roy L. Bowlin, WWII Lt. Col of the Rochester Ordinance District. Some theories suggest he is Zampano.
White rose bud preserved in Zampano's nightstand drawer? (pg 31)
"His body's... reduced to ash." (pg 31)
"I've come to believe errors, especially written errors, are often the only markers left by a solitary life: to sacrifice them is to lose the angles of personality, the riddle of a soul. In this case, a very old soul. A very old riddle." (pg 31, bold/italics added by me for emphasis)
Navidson being estranged from his twin - Should suggest an estrangement from himself, rooted in childhood and even earlier? - Also, mirror effects, uncanny nature of things being almost the same but not quite, and relationship (the house should be a home, the twins should be close)
"Hey, at least I'm an acquaintance of Bill's now." (pg 32) "A friend of Bill W.'s" is a common phrase in the Alcoholic's Anonymous circles. Bill W. (Williams Griffith Wilson) was one of the founders of AA.
"I keep cornering myself with questions: did I really experience some sort of decapacitating seizure, I mean in - ?" (pg 35) What is this pause?
Latin phrase from pg 34: "Tum vero omne mihi visum considere in ignis Ilium: Delenda Est Carthago." Up to the colon, this is a quote from book II of the Aeneid (as is stated in footnote 42). The full passage is as follows:
"She hid herself in the deep gloom of the night,//And now the dire forms appeared to me//Of great immortals, enemies of Troy.//I knew the end then: Ilium was going down//In fire, the Troy of Neptune going down,//As in high mountains when the countrymen//Have notched an ancient ash, then make their axes//Ring with might and main, chopping away//To fell the tree - ever on the point of falling,//Shaken through all its foliage, and the treetop//Nodding; bit by bit the strokes prevail//Until it gives a final groan at last//And crashes down in ruin from the height." (Bold/italicized portion is the translation of the phrase) HERE are multiple translations.
"'Of course, you're all my children.' Which was strange, since I was the only one there." (pg 35)
"...burning off distant plateaus of bistre & sage..." (pg 36, in reference to Johnny's father. Only references that I could find were to old stamps in France. Sage was in reference to the artist who designed these particular stamps which were sold between 1876 and 1900, and Bistre referred to the color, which was a dark brown. They depict Peace and Commerce standing on either side of a post.
"Karen's project is one mechanism against the uncanny or that which is "un-home-like". She remains watchful and willing to let the bizarre dimensions of her house gestate within her." (pg 37)
Gestate: Carry a fetus in the womb from conception to birth. Or, develop over a long period.
"Les jeux sont fait. Nous sommes fucked." (pg 38) - The writing is on the wall. We're fucked."

summary: during the snap, Tony Stark is the one who got dusted rather than Peter Parker, leaving Peter in space with Nebula. The only problem is, with his super spider metabolism and lack of resources, Peter is suffering more consequences than Nebula
warnings: pain, I'm so sorry
a/n: this is inspired by a random thought my bestie (@nonsensicalollie) had and texted me about. the cover art is also done by him

"Is this recording? Hey, Aunt May. Or whoever found this. This better not end up on social media, Flash will never let me hear the end of it," Peter sighs heavily and looks out the window. He's lost track of the time, space is always dark. "I don’t know if you’re ever going to see these. I don’t even know if you’re still...God, I hope so. Today’s day twenty-one, no...twenty-two."
Nebula is listening from the other side of the room. It's been twenty-two days since the snap and half the world dusted, leaving Nebula and Peter in space. Luckily, The Benatar was left there too so they had a way to get back to earth. Unluckily, they only have so much food and water for the both of them (and who knows how long they'll be out here).
"You know, if it wasn’t for the existential terror of staring into the literal void of space, I’d say I’m feeling a little better today. Infection’s run its course, thanks to Ms. Nebula back there. I think you'd like her, May. She’s very practical. And only a tiny bit sadistic."
Nebula smiles slightly at his words. During the twenty-two days, they've formed a bit of a bond. Nebula was never one to show emotions, and Peter was one to always show emotions. An unexpected team they were, but still a good one.
“The fuel cells were cracked during battle, but we figured out a way to reverse the ion charge. I know you don’t know what any of that means, but basically we bought ourselves about 48 hours of flight time. Problem is that was about...49 hours ago.” Peter chuckles, trying to bring humor to the depressing vibe he’s created. (Spoiler: it didn’t help). “Which means, we’re dead in the water. A thousand light years from the nearest 7-11.” (Still not helping, Pete).
Nebula knew that between the two of them, she’d be more likely to get out of this alive. Nothing against the kid, just everything against that damn spider metabolism. Peter’s spider powers affected his metabolism more than he was letting on, Nebula quickly figured that out. On about day ten, she started realizing that if they didn’t make it back to earth soon, he would likely die in space.
“Most of the quote-unquote ‘food’ and potable water ran out two weeks ago,” Peter sniffles. He’s trying to keep it together for May, for anyone else that happens to watch this, and maybe a little bit for himself too. “I know I said no more surprises. But, I gotta say, I was really hoping to pull off one last one. But it looks like…” Peter freezes. Come on, Spider-Man. You know what it looks like, Nebula knows what it looks like, and anyone seeing this video knows what it looks like. Taking a deep breath and shaking his head, Peter leaves the last sentence unfinished. “Don’t feel bad about this. Really, May…anyone. I was trying to be like…I should probably lie down for a minute, rest my eyes. I’m fine, totally fine. I larb you, Aunt May.”
Nebula steps away from where she’s standing and goes to grab the last little bit of water. She walks back over to Peter and sees him with his eyes closed.
“Kid!” She nudges his foot with hers, maybe a little too hard. “You can’t do this, okay? Here. It’s the last of the water. You need it more than I do.” She hands him the water expecting him to take it but instead gets no response. “Peter?” She nudges him again except this time she leans down and nudges his shoulder. She hated to admit it, but she was scared. The spider metabolism is a real bitch to the poor kid.
"I'm fine!" Peter jerked awake and stared at Nebula. He would never mention it, but he saw the tears in her eyes as she stared down at him. “I’m sorry, I just needed to rest my eyes a few minutes.” His voice was raspy and his head was pounding from minimal water intake.
“Take the water.” She didn’t bother acknowledging the kids voice, she figured he already knew. She handed him the water and he grabbed it. He took the biggest sip of water she’s ever seen anyone take. She was right though, he needs it more than she does. She can survive this. Him? She’s not so sure anymore.
Nebula finds Peter laying on the floor sleeping. She helps Peter into Quill’s chair. Since the guardians have disappeared, Peter and Nebula have guessed that they wouldn’t mind them using their stuff.
Peter slumps and slouches in the chair. Nebula leaves his alone, giving him his privacy. Peter closes his eyes and leans against the glass window next to him. He’s so tired. He’s never been this tired in his life. The dehydration, the starvation, the lack of sleep, everything is catching up to the poor kid and he can barely keep his eyes open anymore. The window is so cold, which isn’t helping Peter’s shivering problem. But it’s helping him stay awake…kind of.
Peter’s been out for a bit now. Nebula lets him sleep, he needs it. She looks over at him and sees a bright light shining on his face. She expects him to open his eyes at the light, but he doesn’t. She walks up behind the chair and shields her eyes. The light means they’re back to Earth, it means they made it through. She looks down at Peter smiling and sees his eyes are still closed.
“Peter?” She goes around the chair and shakes him. “Peter, wake up. We did it.”
Steve, Bruce, and Natasha run out of the Avengers compound. They see the silhouette of someone guiding the ship to the ground. Steve runs up to the ship as Nebula is seen carrying the lifeless body of Peter Parker.
“It should’ve been me,” she sniffled.

NEWSWEEK
BY DARRAGH ROCHE ON 7/21/22
U.S. Secret Service Director James Murray is facing scrutiny about his ties to former President Donald Trump amid ongoing allegations about the apparent loss of text messages from January 5 and 6, 2021.
MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell has said that Murray is "the problem" at the agency.
O'Donnell said that the agency has lost "the most important text messages in their history because no one there knew that those text messages were important" and accused Murray of being a "Trump guy."
He quoted an NBC News report that stated the Secret Service had been told at least three times to preserve text messages and communications on the agency's phones, citing a senior Secret Service official.
"The senior Secret Service official said it was James Murray's responsibility to make sure all Secret Service texts sent and received on January 6 were preserved. And he did not do that," O'Donnell said.
Murray was appointed to lead the Secret Service by Trump in 2019 and O'Donnell pointed to investigative journalist and author Carol Leonnig's book where she claimed that Trump had originally wanted to appoint Secret Service agent Tony Ornato to lead the agency but Ornato recommended Murray.
Ornato was serving White House deputy chief of staff for operations in January 2021. He had been permitted to leave his Secret Service role temporarily in order to serve as deputy chief of staff, in what has been described as an unusual move for the Secret Service.
O'Donnell discussed a 10-minute interview Trump reportedly held with Murray before appointing him to lead the agency.
"That interview may well have in included the questions. Who did you vote for for president? Who are you going to vote for for president? And do I have your complete and total loyalty at all times for anything I might want to do?" O'Donnell said.
He went on: "We know that Donald Trump was not going to give that job to anyone who did not clearly pledge loyalty to Donald Trump.
"So we know that James Murray is a Trump guy in every sense important to Donald Trump or Donald Trump would not have promoted him to director of the Secret Service in April of 2019."
O'Donnell went on to ask if Murray had done "a service" for Trump by "overseeing the deletion of all the Secret Service text messages on January 6."
"The January 6 committee can answer all of these questions by issuing a specific personal subpoena to James Murray for his under oath testimony and a separate subpoena to James Murray for all his Secret Service text messages on January 6," he said.
Just one text exchange from January 5 and 6 was submitted to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General Joseph Cuffari. That was also received by the House Select Committee investigating the events of the Capitol riot.
O'Donnell took aim at Murray for not saying anything publicly amid what he called the "worst crisis facing the Secret Service since the assassination of President Kennedy."
"We have never seen a problem like this at the Secret Service," he said. "It's a very serious problem at the Secret Service. And James Murray is part of that problem. Or James Murray is the problem."
Others have also joined in criticism of Murray. MSNBC legal analyst Jill Wine-Banks tweeted on Wednesday: "There must be consequences for anyone at @SecretService who did not back up their data and for the leadership who did not make it happen. Director #JamesMurray must be fired today."
Pam Keith, CEO of the Center for Employment Justice, tweeted: "James Murray and Tony Ornato should be on EVERYONE's list of suspects" and said they were "hand picked" by Trump.
Criticism of Murray comes amid continuing controversy about the Secret Service and its role on January 6, 2021, with the National Archives directing the Secret Service to investigate the potential "unauthorized deletion" of text messages and issue a report in 30 days.
Secret Service Communications Chief Anthony Guglielmi has said the National Archives "will have our full cooperation in this review and we will complete the internal review of our information as directed and promptly respond to their inquiry. The Secret Service has long standing established policies regarding the retention of government records."
Guglielmi has also said that the "Secret Service has been and continues to be fully cooperative with the January 6 Select Committee."

ok jin anon again and it’s 3am and now i cannot stop thinking about how special each of them are. obviously we know this BUT would you mind if i just praised them for a bit w my opinions (pls feel free to ignore if you do!)
i’ll start w the vocal line - i feel like each of them has such unique tones to their voices and it’s so interesting to hear them all and have them work together. jin’s voice as we know is SO well suited for ballads but i also want to point this specific thing out - you know his high notes in run bts?? the “tell me what you wanna” part. UGH it gets me each time. jimin’s range is incredible and he hits those high notes SO. WELL. (but also can we talk about his lower vocals in tony montana 😩😩😩) i think it’s amazing - and honestly a bit lucky/destined as well, considering how bts was formed - how bts’ vocal line has two people who can hit the high notes well (amongst other talents as well), jin and jimin, and tae who has a really smooth and velvety deep voice along w kook who sounds so good doing literally anything. the combination of all of them truly makes them the best vocal line in the industry (this is MY OPINION!!! anyone is free to disagree w me!!!)
and the RAP LINE god. i’m not as familiar w rap as i am w singing but hobi’s style is so versatile that i’m impressed each time he releases new music. he is truly a wildcard (idk if that has negative connotations but i mean it in a very very good way!!!) namjoon has that steady style that i feel like is very classic and powerful??? (sorry, like i said im not super well-acquainted w rap so i truly have no idea what im talking about) and yoongi’s seems to be in between hobi and namjoon’s where he does seem to stick to his few styles BUT the way he raps is so interesting, like his voice and intonation. this is a tangent but i feel like hobi was imitating yoongi’s style when they first debuted as he was finding his own style, and can i just say i LOVE his own style. anyways, best rap line as well, in my completely non-biased opinion!!! 😏
it is now 3:30am and wow i am just so in awe of them. as yoongi said, what a relief that they are seven. what a relief that they have each other. and i know that they’re focusing on solo projects and whatnot but i personally don’t think that takes away from that quote!! i am so emo, i love them so much. they are incredible and we are so lucky.
Pleaseeee, jin's high notes are so good. His high notes in Crystal Snow had me screaming when he confirmed it was him. His voice has come a long way since his debut.
Jimin's voice... there's a reason that Promise is my favorite Jimin song. It perfectly encapsulates his voice. There are some bts songs, like fake love, that really force him to use the higher end of his range, and while that's nice sometimes, I prefer him to be comfortable like in Promise. Really, yoongi did well in asking Jimin to feature in Tony Montana because I don't think anyone else could do it the way he can..
Taehyungs deep voice... whew. The first time I heard Singularity was an out-of-body experience fr. Like, his voice is suited for jazz and honestly, if his entire mixtape ended up being jazz, I'd be in love. I'd be in love regardless but you know. His voice is soulful
And jk, my versatile king...I think his voice blends really well with the rest of the vocal line, but especially jin's. Idk why but to me, those two sound perfect together. Still With You is my favorite song. More of that, please
I'm not familiar with rap other than the fact that when I first listened to Cypher 4, I about lost my damned mind. I am impressed with hobi considering he was originally meant to be a vocalist before transitioning to part of the rap line. I'm glad he put out hope world to show off his skills. Actually, his demo of DNA made me want to hear more of that singing. And I'd consider being called a 'wildcard' a good thing because people don't know what to expect from you.
Yoongi's versatility is hot. If you sampled his raps from his debut up til now, you'd be amazed at how varied they are. Cypher 2's verse had my jaw on the floor because of his speed. King shit.
As for namjoon, I think what i love the most is the emotion he puts into his verses and the lyricism within them. The entirety of Mono makes me feel a lot of emotions, everything goes, in particular, holds a special place in my heart
As I said, I don't know anything about rap other than what I enjoy, lol.
I'm glad the universe put them together ❤️
