Opinion: Scarlet and Violet are Pokémon's Queerest Games Yet (Bulbanews)

Hi it's Lisia here!! The following is an opinion piece from one of our staff members, Torchic W. Pip!! Blanc and I both loved this and like... we had to share it here LOL.

Pokémon was my queer awakening. I had silly little crushes on male and female characters alike, and I resonated with many of the designs of the series’s more gender nonconforming designs. Pokémon has always had a wink and a nod to queerness: Jessie and James’s genderbending antics, Beauty Nova in X and Y, Blanche from Pokémon GO… the list goes on. But with Scarlet and Violet, queerness shines bright as celestial stars.

“But wait!” you might say. “Scarlet and Violet has no canonical gay or trans characters! How can this thesis make sense?” Well, queer representation need not be explicit to be impactful. Sometimes, the stories queer people resonate with most are told through metaphor, from the misfits in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer to X-Men to Luca and Gwen Stacy. The roots of this trace back to a history of censorship. LGBTQ+ stories have been historically censored, such as with the Hays Code. Queer people have long been unable to see stories with explicitly queer characters, so they instead turned to metaphors and symbolism. Gender nonconformity is also nothing new to the scene of video games. Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Guilty Gear are just some of the games that play with our expectations of gender. It’s also nothing new to Pokémon. East Asian media tends to depict transness and gender nonconformity differently from the West, but for more on that, I'll direct you to this video.

Even before the release of Scarlet and Violet, gender nonconformity shined through. Take a character like Grusha, for example, who many mistook for a girl when he was first introduced. It goes a little deeper than that, though. “Grusha” is Russian for “pear”, but it’s also a diminutive for the name “Agrafena”... a female Russian name. Whether or not it was intentional, it does add an extra layer of nonconformity to Grusha. Another character with some queercoded elements is Iono: Her color palette evokes the colours of the trans flag, and her Magnemite headpieces evoke an explicitly genderless Pokémon. Baggy clothes are common among many transgender people. Her friend Bellibolt is a frog, and many frogs in real life can change their sex. In Japanese, she speaks with a Bokukko speech pattern (a girl using the masculine “boku”), which is often used for plucky characters, but also nonconforming characters. All of Iono’s names across translations evoke themes of questions. On top of all that… well, the Vtubing scene is, from personal experience, very queer. All of my friends who watch VTubers are queer in some way. More seriously, creating a persona where you can let your true self shine in a way that regular society won't allow you to... that's pretty queer.

With the release of the games, we’ve seen a wide array of characters—Rika, Saguaro, Penny, and all of the leaders of Team Star, among others—showcase a wide range of gender expressions, either in their appearances, their personalities, or their hobbies. And all of these characters are seen as heroes, as role models.

As with games before, there are two characters with queer subtext in their relationship. Hassel and Brassius have been seen by many as being in a gay relationship, bonding over a love of art, supporting each other in dark times, and giving each other pet names. Even if it's not outright stated that they're in a romantic relationship, their care for each other is a beautiful thing. Many gay coded relationships are often of younger men or women, and while these relationships are important, it's also important for older gay couples to receive some of the spotlight. After all, queer people have always existed, and it's important to remember our past and honor those who came before us, who helped paved the path to acceptance.

For the first time in a mainline game, the player character can choose any clothes, hair style, and so on regardless of gender. While the player can still only choose between being referred to by masculine or feminine terms, this is a step in the right direction, and it opens the door for many opportunities never seen before. Boys can be feminine, girls can be masculine, and both can be anywhere in between. The world of gender expression is as big as the open world of Paldea.

But back to Team Star. The whole Team Star path is one big, queer metaphor. Think about it: kids are bullied for how they dress or act, these misfits band together and retaliate against their bullies, finding a sort of family in each other, villains who turn out to be just the opposite… It’s a story that, in some way or form, can resonate with many kids who have, sadly, dealt with homophobia or transphobia in school. The path is a story about righting what’s wrong, about making the world a more accepting place.

Scarlet and Violet is a game about shining bright in the sky with other stars, about being your true self. Its themes are deeply resonant with the queer experience. At the end of the Team Star path, you battle Penny, whose ace Pokémon is trans flag-coloured Sylveon, and as she Terastilizes her partner, she says, “Shine bright like the starry sky and become who you really want to be!” So shine bright, trainers, and be your true self.

Oh, and of course, Quaquaval is the queer icon of all time.

Ushijima x Reader: What Do You Say? [a haikyuu one-shot]

Ok y'all, so my friends and I had an all-nighter where we write one-shots. The twist is, we each wrote down on different sticky notes a character, a plotline, and I think the third is a trope. We did this a year ago and I forgot all about this, but I recently found it so I'm posting it here lol

Trope: Childhood friends to lovers

Story under cut.

Finally. Fifth grade. It was Y/n’s last year of elementary school and she was determined for it to be different. She wasn’t the most extroverted; she liked people but was too scared to approach them, and they never approached her. But this year, she was going to make a friend.

Kimi seemed to be sweet, everyone adored her, but when Y/n tried to befriend her, she was nothing but rude. In fact, after Y/n had the “audacity” to try to “be on her level”, Kimi tried to make her year awful. But Y/n wasn’t going to give up so easily. She would have a good year and she would make a friend. No mean girl was going to stop her.

After a while, Kimi and her “posse” started to get physical with Y/n and pushed her to the ground during recess. That’s when she met Ushijima Wakatoshi. He was in more advanced classes, so she hadn’t ever seen him before, not really, but they had recess together. When he saw her get pushed to the ground, he felt compelled to intervene. He stood over Y/n on the ground, his shadow covering her. Though in most cases it may be a sign of intimidation, his shadow symbolized a blanket of comfort. He looked at Kimi and the two other girls and spoke to them directly.

“To treat your fellow classmate in such a way is despicable. She should be your friend, not your adversary. Don’t choose violence as a mode of communication, but talk out your differences. If this is something you cannot do, I’m afraid I’ll be obligated to notify your teacher,” the girls snarled in repulse and walked away. When they were far enough away, Ushijima knelt down to Y/n’s height on the ground, placing his hand on her shoulder. “Are you alright?”

“Yes! I’m okay! Thank you for helping me,”

“My name is Ushijima Wakatoshi. I am in advanced studies. What is your name?’

“My name, my name is L/n F/n. I’m in general studies,”

“Your knee. It’s scraped and bleeding slightly. Here, use this band-aid,” he told her and handed her a latex patch from his pocket. She finally realized: this could be her new friend!

“Ah! Thank you! Um… do you like advanced studies?” He was a little thrown by the question but answered nonetheless.

“It’s fine. The work is manageable and if it will help me get ahead I have no problem with extra work,” he said while gently pressing the band-aid to her wound. He was quiet as he worked. Then, something told him to engage in conversation with her. “Do you like general studies?”

“Yes! It’s nice and easy, though I still struggle with maths. Do you struggle with maths?”

“No. I find it to be quite easy,” he stated.

“Maybe you could give me some tips on how to do better?”

“It’s pretty simplistic. The more practice, the easier it gets,”

Even after the band-aid was properly secured, the two children continued to talk. Y/n tried her hardest to keep the conversation alive. Even if the question was simple or off-topic she would ask it, and he would reply. Then recess ended, and they had to depart.

“I really enjoy talking to you Ushiwaka! Will you be at recess tomorrow?”

“I always attend recess. It’s important to spend time outside,”

“Okay! I’ll see you tomorrow then!” Y/n said and ran off to her teacher.

“Y/n dear, what happened to your knee?” the teacher asked her.

“It got scrapped. But It’s okay because my new friend Ushiwaka helped me! I can’t wait to see him again tomorrow!” Y/n told her and ran inside. What a wonderful friendship they had that year.

Y/n closed her notebook at the sound of the bell ringing. Another draining class.

I should have stuck to general studies. She thought to herself. Her friend Taeko put her hands on the front of her desk.

“That was so boring. How long are we going to be on tectonic plates?” she wined.

“I don’t know, but if it will help me get ahead I have no problem with extra work,” Y/n reasoned.

“Hey, guess what?”

“What?”

“I got a date today,”

“Really? With who?”

“That hot stud from the volleyball team. Reon Ōhira,”

“Do I get to meet him?”

“Uh, doy! I’m going to watch his practice after school. You don’t have horseback riding today, do you? You should come watch with me. Then you can meet him,”

“I’m finished riding horses for the week. I’m happy to meet him today.”

“Awesome! Then you can ogle his teammates. Oh my gosh. I’m a volleyball girlfriend!”

School had finally ended and Taeko and Y/n were headed to the gym Reon was practicing in. Taeko slid open the door and as soon as they saw each other they smiled. Reon jogged over to her and nodded his head at Y/n.

“Hey, Reon. This is my bestie, Y/n,”

“Nice to meet you. I’m Reon,”

“So I’ve heard. Nice to meet you, too,” “Reon,” Y/n heard a direct, commanding voice call out, somehow familiar. “we’re having a team discussion before we start practice,”

Y/n looked to the student who spoke, the captain, the one she remembered from fifth grade.

“Ushiwaka?” When Reon jogged over to a spot in the circle, for a moment, Ushijima and Y/n made eye contact. Ushijima peered at her, trying to piece together how he knew her face. Then his eyes widened.

“Do you know him?” Taeko asked Y/n. She broke eye contact and looked at her friend.

“Yeah. We went to elementary together. Ushiwaka, right?”

“Psh, don’t ask me. I can’t remember anyone's name. Let's sit here. I don’t want to be hit by a volleyball,”

Practice ended. It didn’t seem as long as Y/n would have thought it would be. She busied herself with homework, but she kept looking up and making eye contact with Ushijima. Did he recognize her? He must have. Based on his expression alone she knew he at least remembered her face. Taeko stood up, pulling her bag onto her shoulder. “We’re gonna head out. Are you okay walking home?”

“Yeah, sure thing. Have fun on your date,” Y/n winked at them playfully. Taeko smiled before turning on her heel and walking off with her soon-to-be boyfriend. Y/n turned to pack away her things when…

“Excuse me,” the same commanding voice came suddenly from directly behind Y/n, causing her shoulders to jump. She turned around to face Ushijima. “I apologize. I didn’t mean to startle you. I have something to ask you. By any chance, might your name be L/n F/n?”

“Yeah, it is,” she replied.

“My name is Ushijima Wakatoshi. We went to the same elementary school. I met you when you got pushed over by some girls and you scraped your knee. I bandaged your wound and we became friends. You called me Ushiwaka. Do you remember me?”

“Yes, I remember you. You were my first friend in elementary,” It was silent for a while. Awkward. Neither of them knew what to say.

“What classes are you taking? Are you still in general studies?”

“No, not anymore. I started taking advanced classes. What about you?”

“I’m still taking advanced classes. I still excel in math. Have your math skills improved?”

“Yes, but of course, as I improve the material gets harder,”

“You are correct. I say if it will help us get ahead there is no problem with extra work,” Y/n nodded. That sounded like him. “Your friend has left with my teammate. Are you walking with someone?”

“No. I usually walk with her but they have a date today so I’m loning it,”

“Then may I accompany you?” Y/n thought for a moment but in the end, accepted.

“I would love your company,”

After Ushijima had walked Y/n home that day, he asked her for her contact information so they could talk outside of school. Y/n learned he was a very formal texter, but he had a charm to it. It was kind of like their friendship was picking up where it left off. It ended up being really, really nice. Y/n started going to his practices with Taeko more, and they studied together outside of school ever so often. One day Y/n caught herself smiling while texting him. Truth be told, she had a bit of a crush on him in their elementary days, but she would never admit that to him.

“Ohmygosh, ohmygosh, ohmygosh, Y/N! Prom is like, right now, what are we wearing?” Taeko asked Y/n as she grabbed her shoulders.

“I don’t know. I wasn’t even thinking about that. Should we go shopping today?”

“Uh, yeah! We have to get on this pronto! I’m texting Reon. I have to make sure our ‘fits don’t clash. Should I get his opinion or surprise him?”

“Get his opinion. Leave the surprise dress for the wedding,”

“Good idea. Oh my gosh! Do you have a date in mind? If so we need to bring him too. We’re obvs gonna do a group picture and I can’t have his suit wash any of us out,”

“No, Taeko, I don’t have anyone in mind,”

“Well, the time is still early. You never know, Reon’s team captain might ask you. You guys are close now, right?” Y/n didn’t even think of that. What if he did? Would she say yes? Would she want to? No. He wouldn’t ask her.

“He doesn’t seem like the type to ‘prompose’. Let’s look for dresses. What do you think about blue?”

“For you? Absolutely! A royal blue in satin fabric – long. Oh my gosh this is gonna be so fun!” Taeko practically skipped out the school doors, bringing Y/n with her. Even if Ushijima didn’t ask her to prom, she was so ready for prom.

Taeko found a beautiful green princess gown and the most flattering suit for Reon, but Y/n hadn’t found the right fit. After a long time of looking, the three ended the day and walked Y/n home. It was about 2 hours later Y/n heard her doorbell ring. She went downstairs, opened the door, and there she saw Ushijima with a long banner, asking her to be his prom date.

“L/n F/n. Will you go to prom with me?” he asked. Her face was still for a moment, trying to comprehend. Ushijima, upon seeing her face, started to worry he made a mistake. “I asked Reon what I should do to ask you since he was seeing your best friend. He told me to keep it simple. I also got you flowers. I couldn't hold both them and the sign so I put it on your step,”

Y/n looked down to see the large bouquet. It was magnificent. “So, L/n, what do you day? Will you be my date to the prom?”

She lifted up the massive vase and held it to her face. Who knew he’d ask the same day Taeko suggested he might? Probably Taeko. Y/n couldn’t contain the smile on her face. “Yes, Ushiwaka. I would love nothing more than to be your date!”

lego monkie kid has this overarching theme of "the world is what you make of it / anyone can be a hero, make the most of your abilities / with the support of your friends and belief in yourself, you can do anything". at least, that's the narrative i was getting.

Lady Bone Demon represented the idea that fate is unchangeable and that means you should stop trying to "make a difference/change". she, ironically, claims herself has a harbinger of "destiny" and attempts to force this viewpoint on the world. she tries to change the world to fit her image. her ice powers could be symbolic of how her mindset is meant to freeze others into place and keep them from taking action against her.

so, in contrast, MK is meant to represent the opposite, aka the overarching narrative theme. when MK defeats her, he even says that "the perfect world is what you make of it, so as long as i have my friends by my side, the world is perfect!". it's a pretty clear indication of what the show is trying to get across to the audience.

MK's backstory is unknown throughout s1-3. we just have the general of Pigsy and Tang being important role models in his life and the idea that he recently changed his name/nickname to be MK, and that originally he had a name that was "really a mouthful". not much is really needed for a hero like MK to work in a story like this. honestly? the more boring the character's original life, the better. it hammers home the idea that anyone can be a hero.

we're never fully told why Wukong picked MK as his successor, but one can assume it's because of Wukong's "i've been kinda watchin' you" comments that Wukong has studied MK and deemed him suitable. i know i, along with a couple others, assumed it's because MK was "worthy". even the staff seems to allow those who are "worthy" to lift it, proven by when MK loses the ability in the fight against Macaque in s1. he says "i can't ... i'm not strong enough". i'm gonna quickly mention that this means the Monkey King Powers (tm) are rooted in believing in yourself, which is fitting since Wukong was an allegory for the power of the mind. anyway. the entire season MK's powers are referred to as Monkey King Powers by the cast and himself. there's even that glowy, golden power stone thing that Macaque removes from MK, effectively "taking his powers". that confirms the idea that power can be shared, meaning Wukong most likely just quietly gave his powers to MK when he lifted the staff. this, along with the fact that Wukong could shut off MK's powers kind of proves the idea that Wukong gave MK the powers in the first place. if that wasn't true, then somebody in MK's life, or himself, would have noticed something being off.

TL;DR, s1-3 MK started as a regular delivery boy who was given Monkey King's powers, and he represents the idea that anyone can become a hero and that you just need to believe in yourself and your friends.

now that the set up is outta the way, here's my gripes with season 4 lol

MK is given a backstory that, in a way, proves Lady Bone Demon right: destiny is unchangeable. he is another stone monkey, born of an egg similar (or originating from) Wukong's stone egg. we don't ... really know why? there's a lot of holes in this, like

how did MK go all the way from the mountain top to Pigsy's noodles? why to Pigsy's of all places?

if MK is a stone monkey, why does he take on a human form from birth?

if the powers he possess are all innate and not given, why has he never noticed/used them before? did he just ... not use them? even on accident? (that feels like lazy writing.)

it feels kind of obvious, at least to me?, that this backstory is... made up for this and future seasons. it doesn't really apply to s1-3 MK. it's retconned in. which, okay, fine, it's a kids show made to sell toys like ninjago, of course they're going to start adding random stuff in, they gotta sell those toys. the kids need a cool action show to get them interested in them toys. but my issues stems from the fact that the message of the show has changed.

MK is no longer the everyman underdog hero for kids to look up to, he was specifically born to be an all-powerful stone monkey. this isn't the story of a normal guy becoming a hero, it's the story of an all powerful being just... realizing they're all powerful. he was destined to be this way. it feels almost negative, if ya catch my drift. this, along with the retcons (???) to the rest of the cast, just leaves a weird taste in my mouth.

the others, Pigsy, Tang, Sandy, and Mei, are no longer the reincarnations of the pilgrims, but are now the descendants. mei is an exception, since she was always Ao Lie's 1000x great grand daughter, but the others? they were always thought of as reincarnations. the descendant thing feels like a quick retcon. for what? i have no idea. the only thing i can think of is the narrative question for the heroes of "the sins of the father" type deal, where they have to prove that they are better people than their ancestors. this... also applies to MK, in an odd way? the show has made comments of how Wukong regrets many things in his life and that no one has let him forget about his mistakes, something that could tie into the narrative idea of The Next Generation (tm) being better than the old guys. he even tells MK that he's done so much more for the world than Wukong ever did himself. this is weird, because MK and Wukong are not related. at least in a direct descendant kind of way (such as father -> son confirmed by writer/producer, David Breen. as for sibling relationship? god i hope not.) although MK says in s4, and Sandy in s3, that this is Just A Theory that they're descendants/reincarnations, it's still pretty blatantly showed that it's true.

my issue is that this feels like character assignation, of the old pilgrims and of our current cast. issues that characters didnt really have (mei's "anger", for example) are being put into the series to give them some sort of obstacle to overcome, even though there's plenty organic obstacles in the narrative. and damn, poor mk. i guess im just mourning the loss of our regular ass dude who has been exchanged for a..... uh..... fanfic-like backstory? i know i know that's a "cringe" remark to make, but it's the only analogy i can think of at the moment. imagine pitching this

okay, so our main character, get this, is gonna be a stone monkey JUST like the monkey king. AND he's gonna have all the monkey king's powers. he'll be born from the same stone, too. it's like he's another wukong but for the kids!

i'm exaggerating, but still. like .. ???

now, not everything was bad or something i didnt like! i loved the conflict azure presented, and i love MK grappling with the idea of "everything being his fault". it reflects wukong's problems in a cool way (now if they'd EXPLORE THAT!!!). azure brings up a pretty good point and one i did NOT thing they would ever do: the idea that the celestials are corrupt and self serving. azure has a point here, and the conflict is pretty damn cool. i just kinda wish the heroes' narrative would also be a response to this conflict? like s1-3. but w/e i guess

i kinda expected a change in direction since the director and some writing staff were changed from s1-3 to this season. but uhhhh not like this </3

now!!!!! i am not completely set in stone with this current idea of lego monkie kid because there's a season 5 on it's way. the story will continue, and i assume we will get our closure on the azure lion arc. im kinda worried about how that closure will happen but uhhh future us problem. MK is also at the height of his darkest hour/self doubt by the end of this season, so hopefully s5 will address this and explore the solution. what narrative solution r they gonna present??????? no fuckin clue theres like no hints i hae no idea where they're going with this. foreshadowing? never met her.

also LOVE LETTERS!!!! *swoons* when yelan said snezhnayan ppl use scented paper to make their letters more romantic? yeah, that's such a pantalone thing to do 🥴 his handwriting is so elegant and maybe he even has a custom wax seal for his love bc he's extra like that

OH MY GOSH UMBRA IS SO CUTE 😭😭💖 I don't know how to describe it but characters having an animal companion is always so. Freaking. Cute. 🥰 😭 AND OMG UR SO RIGHT??? Capitano fills the pages with his photos and the captions being so straight to the point. "Landscape of Natlan." "A fox followed me to the camp." "I think you would like this dish." Sandrone too, she's not the best with words either so she tends to send pictures of any interesting machinery she encounters on her missions. But she doesn't put captions. She likes to hear your ideas on what you think the machine is used for.

YOUR BIG BRAIN IS SO 💖 SCENTED LOVE LETTERS HAS PANTALONE'S NAME WRITTEN ALL OVER IT (i had to google when yelan said that since it's been so many months since her story quest 💀) But omg. Pantalone definitely has different kinds of scented ink specifically made for him as well just so he can use them while writing letters to you. And the best part you can actually smell them (cuz yk he's rich as hell getting actual high-quality products 😭) and you just fall in love all over again ;)

I cannot stress enough Pantalone has one of the most beautiful handwriting like.. you'll never get over it. Plus he definitely has a custom wax seal... he's not using a Fatui seal for letters to you. He's so extra he probably has a bunch of them at his disposal for whatever mood he's in (flowers, plants, symbols, even tiny words, whatever they are, it's fancy af)

okay, it took me way longer than it should have to figure out what happened in this scene, lol. razlo gets behind elendira and blocks her nail gun with the nail that's already in his body which jams her gun and pushes the nail further into his torso which takes them both by surprise.

i love watching razlo fight!!! it's so fun seeing him fight a different way due to not having his punishers/third arm anymore. he's having so much fun too, it's infectious~

*returns 30 minutes later* HUH. INTERESTING. so stampede shows us livio working hard in EoM to catch up with wolfwood, but in the manga, it's all but outright stated that he's trying to catch up with razlo.

sorry i'm just fascinated by the tristamp/manga differences and seeing younger livio doing pushups reminded me (stamp!livio does pushups the same way!!)

we're not supposed to know that razlo exists yet in tristamp; i wonder if or how season 2 is going to reframe any of this. it's not like i dislike livio and wolfwood's relationship in stampede!! i think it's really sweet, introducing livio into ww's story earlier is a good move, and livio joining EoM to catch up with ww makes everything in the relevant episodes more emotional. but the relationship between livio and razlo is just as important!!

OH BOY, HE'S FERAL!!! truly, he is going out in a blaze of glory just like he wanted. i wouldn't expect anything else from him at this point.

ahhh... stampede!legato talks a lot about discarding emotion in favor of devotion. but emotion and devotion are intrinsically linked. legato is a pretty emotional person, he cries a lot and yells a lot... as long as he can express his devotion to knives, he feels like he's fulfilling his purpose, so he's happy... i'm glad he's having fun at least... :')

WAAAAHHH VASH IS REMEMBERING WOLFWOOD NOW... his face is not quite visible but... vash is remembering wolfwood's words because he's thinking he really is going to have to kill legato to end this fight... killing legato just like in the 98 anime...

i get caught up in the action, but every time they bring wolfwood up i realize how much i miss him...

i find ganondorf to be a deeply compelling character. this is in part to the way pre botw zelda games utilized him as both a villain and as this symbolic culmination of evil.

now other games may have done this, but none immediately come to mind, as one of the most compelling aspects of ganondorfs character is that before botw? every instance in every game was the SAME dude (except skyward sword but ill talk about that later). that allowed games with stronger narrative focus to flesh him out in greater detail, while a game with a more cut and dry story but flashier cinematics could really sell his menace, and future iterations could carry the boons of both.

now the zelda timeline is a mess, and the games themselves were not built around that concept. at most youd get direct sequels like majoras mask, or games directly referencing an older title as part of their history, like twilight princess. one should not take the timeline as Word Of God Canon (even though there are multiple official books that reference it), but they all kind of work together to give you a bigger picture. this is especially true for the 2d zeldas, as Ganondorf The Character wasnt really an explored concept back then. you instead had dark beast ganon (who once took human form as dude named Aganhim but hes. separate. like hes canon and important but most of what he contributes to Ganondorf As Character is the dark evil wizard vibes).

in general, when looking at ganondorfs character youll mostly be examining four titles: Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, Windwaker, and Skyward Sword. skyward sword is unique in a lot of ways because it IS made with the "zelda timeline" in mind, and is the timelines official beginning. here we get the forging of the master sword, the first imprisoning war, and! a guy that is NOT ganondorf! demon king demise is the end game boss here, and while i could dedicate a post to analyzing his limited screentime, whats important to this convo is that demise lays a curse upon his defeat. those bearing the soul of the hero (link, who reincarnates), the blood of the goddess hylia (zelda, who does not and instead has descendants inheriting power) will be caught in a cycle of war and blood with the bearer of demise's hatred (ganondorf!). and THERES the money. that last part there helps contribute a LOT to further analyzing ganondorfs character throughout these games because, as mentioned before, they build on each other!

the plot of ocarina of time is not deep. its an enjoyable game, but like most zelda entries, its a paint by numbers tale of a good hero overcoming an evil villain who kidnaps a Notable Woman as the final build towards the climax, wherein you kick his ass free the girl and kill him. (kind of. ganondorf never really DIES) HOWEVER. twilight princess, windwaker, and skyward sword, by virtue of focusing on this SAME DUDE, end up giving a LOT of retroactive depth! its a really fun phenomenon!

that tears of the kingdom throws in the fucking trash! for!! some reason!! WHY. why the hell would you spend 25 years making a layer cake piece by piece and then throw it in the trash in favor of box mix cupcakes??? I DONT GET IT MAN.

totk isnt. a BAD game per se. theres a lot to enjoy about it.

tiptoeing around spoilers here but discussing them generally

the dragon tears are, among other things, about ganondorfs rise to power, to reach his current end game boss state. despite this. he has a grand total of three scenes before he GETS that power. one of which is him laughing, one of which is a poorer retelling of a scene from OoT, and the last one is his introduction where he does fuck all. WHERES THE MOTIVE HERE????

OoT is my least favorite entry of the 4 games listed above. it has a lot of dated narrative elements and systemic issues that continue to plague nintendo to this day (misogyny and racism as per usual). despite this, i find myself returning to OoTs narrative and characterization REPEATEDLY in totk because in so many aspects it just storytells better! yes totk is an open world game with a hands off narrative approach. but botw has that concept down pat and is a more satisfying experience. totk is a more narrative focused botw, and yet its storytelling sucks WORSE than botws and doesnt even measure up to OLDER TITLES. more detailed rants on that are for another time.

so what is a bitch with a special interest in zelda and a fixation on its most charismatic villain to do when presented with an otherwise enjoyable game that is deeply unsatisfying in regards to aforementioned autistic bitchs favorite villain?

obviously make an au thats TotK But Better For Me And My Bros Specifically (thanks @villalunae ily forever)

but if your gonna do that, might as well go full self indulgence, right?

due to aforementioned Ganondorf Characterization Layer Cake, theres a LOT of fun Implied Nuance to play around with, of most importance is ganondorfs relationship with the gerudo, and the gerudos relationship to hyrule. demises curse and the elements of destiny and fate add some fun compounding factors to really amp the tension up, but in my opinion only really ever serve as The Last Straw so to speak. its important that ganondorf is someone who chooses to be this way! but choices arent made in a vacuum, and prying those circumstances apart gives you so many potential ways for this to End Differently.

so seeing that TotK Ganondorf is NOT the OG OoT Ganondorf, the idea here is to further explore the concept of like. WHY is he a villain? villain is a socially constructed category afterall. how do you focus on those circumstances and their effects on a person? how does the political situation of hyrule play into this?

a personal favorite interpretation of mine (and other ppls judging by the plethora of fan content in a similar vein), is this idea of a Redeemed Ganondorf, a variation where ganondorf is NOT the final boss, but instead an ally of link and zeldas. wrt this particular au, that looks a lot like locking everyone in a room together and see who starts throwing things first.

so with that in mind, i just ended up going through scene after scene in totk and thinking of how a redeemable ganondorf would play out. what kind of personality would he have, how would he interact with these other characters, what are his relationships like? whats his driving motive, how committed to these ideas is he, whats his breaking point and why? and then playing with those ideas and throwing them against other characters, how does he interact with the sages, how does he interact with rauru, how does he interact with ZELDA?

a lot of that informs the baseline of how we ended up going through making the au (alongside a hefty dose of writers worldbuilding dilemma lmao) and also serves as the foundation of subsequent sequel aus that as of right now exist solely as amvs in my head.

so in summary theres two?? maybe 3??? that im just marinating in.

the main unnamed totk au, where the triforce trio work alongside each other to put an end to demises curse of hatred once and for all, with a large focus on character dynamics and their relationships to each other (and also plenty of self indulgence. ghirahim got tossed back in there. and fi)

and then, after that, a kind of hypothetical sequel game to totk au. set 100 years after the ending events of totk au, the trio + co navigate a world where the threat of ganondorfs rise to power is no longer the primary problem hyrule suffers, but instead a power vacuum in the realm of demons, leading to a slowly rising threat of demon incursion. focuses on how your "party" (ganondorfs reincarnation, links reincarnation, and a non-princess zelda, alongside naboorus reincarnation, and impa (neither a reincarnation nor a descendant but once again paying homage to impa as a recurring character)) gets along with each other and how, as the years go by (i have. TWO seperate time skips so far), their relationships to each other change, and how their goals and ideals grow and change in response to the shifting landscape of threat in hyrule

the last one, technically, is a modern au that mostly works as background context for triforce trio shitposting.

The metis cykes obsession - metis cykes is a minor character in the fifth ace attorney game who has been dead for 7 years by the time the story starts and she has no dialogue. There are seven pictures of her in existence and two of those are of her corpse. I loved her I LOOOOVED her it was like spiritual, I've kinned for fun on and off but I was LITERALLY her IRL for like 6 months. To this day my feelings on aurametis are staunch like stone

The lamp blog - I used to have a huuuge hateboner for clay terran as a symbol of fandom latching onto background men instead of woman characters, and, spurred on by my friend group at the time, I made a blog called yourfavehasfewerficsthanthislamp where I just compared the number of fics XYZ character had next to the number of fics terran had. It was an obsessive hate-cycle which did nothing to actually uplift female characters and the methodology was intensely flawed (shoutout to the 'neopets has fewer fics than terran' submission - I mean, yeah, but I feel like you can't use that to say he is more popular than fuckin neopets. 1. Do you prefer writing one-shots or multi-chaptered fics?

Okay, I’ve written both fic types in my short writer life and I think I prefer multi-chaptered fics.

The main reason might be that I simply prefer “long-lasting” pieces of media if I can say so. I’d prefer to read a book series instead of independent short stories and I’d prefer to watch a TV show/movie series instead of independent movies.

I know many people would argue with me (because we all know that brevity is the sister of talent (in English it is different, but allow me, a Russian, to translate the quote by the Russian writer literally)), but I think you can convey a more vast spectrum of emotions, themes, and characters and dig deeper into the lore if you write a multi-chaptered fic. Plus, it’s easier for me to build an emotional connection (which, yeah, is important to me) with my story if I write it for several years and develop many aspects of it instead of one/few.

I love dedicating myself to my hobbies (which is why I’m not really flexible and my spectrum of interests is pretty limited, but well), and given I’m pretty bad at multi-tasking, I wouldn’t be able to give all my one-shots as much attention as they deserve. So, it’s easier and more enjoyable for me to work on one big project, develop it in many ways, and dedicate myself to it completely (with occasional one-shots on the way so I won’t lose my mind)

18. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?

It depends. All my one-shots, excluding Blooming Rose, were named before the writing process, because I knew the core parts of them since the beginning.

As for Always With You and Home for Navidad, these are the quote/song title from the show, so it didn’t take me that long to come up with the titles.

Isla de Sueños is the name of the island from the show, and since I knew Gabe and Naomi were going to visit it, I didn’t struggle with how to name it either.

In case of these fics, I just took the lines from EoA.

Blooming Rose got its title during the writing process after I came up with the rose symbolism scene. I didn’t know how to name it and eventually named it after the main symbolic element of the story (because Gabe is the rose, the rose is Gabe).

Was Born To Lead is the line from the song In Charge (from baker’s son to captain, sir - was born to lead), and I thought it summarized Gabe’s character/journey quite well, so I decided to name the fic all-about-Gabe that way. Whether it was before, during, or after I wrote the first chapter, I don’t remember. I feel like it was after because I didn’t even know what I was aiming for by writing this, it happened in the middle of the night, because I couldn’t sleep, lol.

Anyway, as for the chapters of WBTL, it also depends. Some of them got their titles before, some during, some after. I won’t elaborate each one, but I’ll say the fifteenth chapter, Questions and Answers, has the most stupid title. I had no idea how to name it and eventually gave it the most boring title of all, because I couldn’t publish the chapter without a title, lol. Maybe I’ll rename it someday.

33. Do you want to be published some day?

I interpret this question in two ways, so I’ll give two different answers.

As I writer, I don’t want to have my works published. Writing is my hobby, and I don’t want to experience the whole new level of stress by worrying about what random strangers will think about what I’ve written.

Besides, of course I'm flattering myself, but I wouldn't want to be a super popular writer with a huge fanbase. WBTL has a tiny audience, but I still see how people misinterpret the plot events and the characters, which is quite discouraging, so I wouldn't want to deal with it on a greater level.

As a person, I want to have my works published for myself so my fics looked like actual books and I could put them on the shelf, open anytime, smell the pages, and such. I recently thought about how cool it could be if I had an illustrated book of WBTL.

But this is the dream that’s obviously out of reach (at least for the reason it's not even finished yet, lol), so I’ll keep being content with my google docs, my website, the picrews of my characters, and other stuff I can create myself until anything bigger seems more realistic and achievable.

Encanto is a family story different from other family stories

Family is complicated

They didn't know the names at first, they only knew that there will be a bunch of kids and one is ordinary

The backstory of Abuela is the core of the story

The project started fall 2016

They spent months researching

Disney prioritized researches (obviously)

It's not a religious miracle, only a miracle for the family

It's a story of families around the world

Things aren't always fully explained in magical realism, it's open to interpretation and Disney typically never have done that (They talked some times about Magical realism I don't know if they really understood it. I didn't understand Magical realism either when seeing things about it)

The magic in the movie is unique (Really? Maybe)

The antagonist had to be from inside the family so conflict are more nuanced because they all love each other, they're missing each other (Of course! PEPA LOVES BRUNO!)

Isabela is antagonistic toward Mirabel

Not having a villain permitted them to concentrate on the characters

At some point they thought about making Julieta the antagonist (That would have been wild wow!)

They ended up spending a lot of times with the characters and it helped for making the movie (I can understand that.)

It was overwhelming to write the dinner scene because of the number of characters

The song The family Madrigal is super important

Bruno's role on the concept of the family's symbolic role is "The outcasted, the troubled family member"

When thinking about his power it appeared seeing the future and be blamed for that would be horrible for Bruno

First he was 1 or 2 years older but finally it appeared to be better if he was already gone when Mirabel is "experiencing a sort of kick in"(?) (What the heck are you saying Jared?)

They wanted to have Mirabel have the stake "if something doesn't go right with you in this family you can have to leave it" (AAAAAAAAA)

Because it would be a fate worst than death, her biggest fear (Oh my!!!)

No way Abuela didn't come to Bruno to ask him for any danger "I have to protect this family"

The most important thing about Bruno is he loves his family and leaving was the better act to prove it

WDTAB came late in the project

The animals were talking at some point and in WDTAB the Toucan was saying about Mariano "he's hot" (...Bruno is ho*sbaff*)

They hope that WDTAB's demo will one day be released (me too lol, could be funny)

In a version Mirabel was directly going to Bruno's tower

Mirabel is doing all of that to prove her worth to Abuela more than to save her family

Abuela is a complex character because she's the Abuela, she's the matriarch

She's not a true antagonist

She was one of the earliest characters

She was sometimes too antagonistic, and some other times not antagonistic enough

Dos Oruguitas was meant to make audience's heart understand Abuela better and feel her

The scene in the hideout was pretty difficult because you have to shift from a goofy scene to a sad discovery. At some point it was too sad (for example the scene were Bruno is talking to one of his rats I guess)

Waiting on a miracle is that big angsty teensy song where Mirabel is wondering if she belongs in the family

Abuela was 25 when she lost her husband

In the prologue Abuela is telling the story to Mirabel and gives out all of the hard parts, then it was interesting for the story to be retold through a different lens

The timeline is pretty much messed up, so I'm sorry if there are any confusions. For instant, let's imagine the Roger pirates had disbanded early, and that Shanks formed his crew before Roger's death.

The cover picture is supposed to be the flower hydrangea, which according to google is a flower that symbolize heartfelt emotions for the people you love including your spouse, children and family. I wanted something that is connected to family and this the best flower I got.

And the tittle? I didn't know what to name the story, again, I wanted something that is related to family. After looking through many family quotes, I decided on something short so I choose "Some call it Chaos. We call is Family." I feel like it's fitting considering how messed up the family is, but at the same time I feel like the title is light hearted. If you guys think the title isn't fitting, please let me know, who knows, I might change it if I got a better name.

I struggled to write the last chapters. I had been in a writing slump, no matter what I write, it turned dry. I was drifting from the One-Piece fandom; sure, I’d read the manga and watch One-Piece edits and all lol. But I couldn’t write anything. Then I shifted back to fanfics, I had been reading other fandoms before.  So, then I was like, hmmm, should I try writing? And voila! I wrote three whole chapters and I finished the story! But I’m still scared they turned out dry, so yeahhh…

I would also like to let it be known that I know almost nothing about Greek or Norse mythology as they will be mentioned in the story, sorry if I make any mistakes regarding them, all the information I wrote about them I found on google.

I think the only reason why your reading of TEaG is considered “bad faith” is because Edelstans really suck at ever actually fully reading what their opposition is saying. Every time I see one of these discussions, it’s the same thing: an awkward reading that doesn’t address the point properly or a strawman.

There’s no having discussions with these people, it’s all about their fragile attempts to win. So long as you differ from them, they’ll scarcely ever admit to your merit.

It may also have to do with the fact that once a certain thing becomes "the right take" in a subsect of a fandom's view of canon, it can be really, really hard to convince them otherwise.

I once again bring up Bleach as an example lol but I gotta lay a bit of groundwork: Ichigo, main character, starts the series pretty bummed. This feeling - his despair - is almost always visualized as/likened to rain. He has friends and family he wants to protect but felt as though he lacked the proper strength to do so - enter Rukia, soul reaper girl, shit happens and she transfers her power to him, he gets his own soul reaper powers to protect his homies, and he says that finally the rain has stopped.

With me? Hope so. He's protectin' he's fightin' he's doin' his shit livin' his life then BAM, two more soul reapers come up, Renji and Byakuya, to take Rukia away cuz actually her giving her powers to Ichigo was illegal and she's goin' to jail. Ichigo tries to stop them, does aight against Renji for like two seconds and then WAH-POW, he gets his ass handed to him. Byakuya does shit that I don't feel like explaining and oops, Ichigo no longer has soul reaper powers and it begins to rain. Ichigo's face down ass up on the ground shiddin' and cryin' in the rain, and then this guy who'd been croppin' up here and there named Kisuke walks over to him and holds an umbrella over Ichigo. And, like, literally the next scenes are him giving Ichigo (some version of) his powers back. Those powers which, remember, were what dried the rain - gotten rid of his despair - in the first place.

Now, because of BABY'S FIRST VISUAL METAPHOR, you would likely come to conclusion that Rukia and Kisuke dried Ichigo's rain, because one gave him the power to protect and the other gave it back to him once it was stolen. But if you were to ask Those IR stans? They will DIE on the hill of "Kisuke didn't dry Ichigo's rain he just held an umbrella over him, you're being too literal, it doesn't mean anything! Only Rukia ever dried Ichigo's rain!"

Meaning that Kisuke protecting Ichigo from the rain - which, again, symbolizes his despair - and then immediately afterwards giving him his powers back - his powers, again, which had gotten rid of the rain in the first place - ... is just a bunch of completely random things happening for no actual reason that just so happen to look a lot like Kisuke also saving Ichigo from his despair. And now where have I heard that sentiment before 🤔

My critiquing of the fic being considered one of "bad faith" by certain Edelstans doesn't really surprise me, given that I've seen this kind of mindset before. There's a certain idea of both Edelgard and the game itself that's sort of cemented itself into Edelstan circles - CF being the route that "breaks fate," Byleth becoming fully human being a good thing, Edelgard caring for the people and just being kind and caring as a character overall, Faerghus Toxic Masculinity, Rhea Bad - and pointing out all of the things in the game that contradict those ideas isn't ever really going to fly over very well with them.

Which is just as well, because I'm not going over the fic to try and change their minds (though that would be a bonus lol) but to go through this "meta piece" and see what all's wrong with it in regards to keeping to canon as well as going over why it also doesn't work as a fic, or even a story independent from 3H. It's seen as such an important piece of Edelgard meta, after all, so imo it ought to be scrutinized to make sure no incorrect or, uhh, worrying narratives are being spread - whether about the game itself or more general things, like any other meta piece. And, well, it's certainly an eye-opener in that regard 😬

At a certain point in their lives both of them 1) were exiled and basically sent to die by someone who was important to them and whom they fully trusted (a friend/family/god) 2) got stuck in a strange place, isolated from the rest of the world/universe, all alone (lol speaking of trauma bonds...)

Two very similar and yet very different situations. And here’s the fun part: the main difference between Entrapta and Hordak’s stories is the opposite ways in which they react to their opposite circumstances, cope with and adapt to new changes

You have opened the floodgate for ask spams fjjffdjdjd! I wanted to ask first about the language: what inspired you? Do you follow a set of rules or just go with what looks cool? Do they have an alphabet? Any chance of hearing how the most important stuff (especially names) is pronounced?👀

OMG you just asked about one of my favourite topics ever around this world lmao

So, the goal eventually would be to be two fully functional languages, Ahnol and So'Kaï, respectively the languages of the Ahn’né and the J'kaï, and have some common words and titles translated into the languages of the Fées, the Naïades, the Ëkos and the Changeformes. The Dracs' language is a bit different, because I'm basically using a regional language from my country and tweaking it a bit for them, so it's not like I'm coming up with it from scratch like I did with Ahnol. So'Kaï is currently at the point I'd like to get with the other languages, which means a bunch of important words used by people in the story.

I was, of course, inspired by Tolkien just as a concept, but the language in itself is a combination of a bunch of things. I've learned seven languages in my life, even if I'm not fluent in all of them, and I've always been interested in them. So, for Ahnol, I based the syntax structure on French, which is S+V+C, or Subject, Verb and Addition. Then, I just began making up words until I had enough that I begun noticing a pattern in sounds I had made unconsciously. When I noticed that pattern, I stuck to it to make a consistently-sounding language. So eventually, it began to sound like the regional languages from my country, mixed with Japanese and Chinese. I'm also using some of the additional letters we have in French, like é, è, à, ç, the little triangle symbol like this = î and the two-dots symbol like this= ï

It has very consistent rules for how it's pronounced and it's relatively easy to understand. Time works like in Chinese, where every sentence is present tense and you just add a time signifier. In English, that would look like this: I was hungry // Yesterday, I am hungry. So the latter is basically how it works.

Unlike French, which its heavily based on in other aspects, I refused to add gender markers and the formal and familiar "you" we have, because the first sucks and the second, although fun, was more complicated than I wanted to get at the time (that changed but at this point it'd be too much work to invent both "you"s)

There is an alphabet and I even made a custom font so I could type the words in documents or when I'm drawing something. The alphabet looks roughly like this (this is an earlier version but the only picture I currently have on my computer, but there's like one tiny difference in the current version so this will do)

The alphabet is clearly based on Ogham, which I'm very familiar with because of my religion, culture and practice. Because the Ahn’né live exclusively in forests, it made sense to use something literlaly called the Alphabet of the Trees as an inspiration.

Right now, Ahnol is completely usable, but it looks vocabulary, which is what makes a language rich. Since I basically add new words whenever I need them in the story, I have a wild variety of words atm.

Excuse my voice, I went to a metal concert with my sister that went on for almost 5 hours and had four bands, including the legendary Gojira, so my throat is busted. But here's a list of words and short phrases, what they mean, and how they're pronounced, as well as some of the most important characters’ names

I like to say yes and no? And it's totally okay to be lost, I accidentally made it confusing because I first didn't even want to release Jin's name lol

And then I tried to pretend they were separate people so I could reveal it in a story, but I'm bad at holding my own surprises. (Then decided that why not, it's important to know anyway lol)

Yes: They are the same person! I have a little story snippet written down where Jin and Asra talk about names. Jin doesn't like their family at all and basically was thinking "should I change my name too? To completely cut ties?". Jin basically let Asra pick a name/nick name for them.

No: Personality wise they're different. When I think about how Cedar would react to things VS how Jin would react to things, they're almost opposites! Almost LOL

Arcana story plot talk: spoilers, talking about the ritual, talking about death of character

So up until the ritual is interrupted I like to imagine the body was forming, and then once Asra butted in, things got changed. That's my own explanation of why Cedar looks different.

At first Cedar's chest tattoo thing was going to just be a nifty little detail but honestly Cedar wouldn't really have any reasoning to go to some tattoo parlor, so I figured it would just be there. I call it a "birthmark" because it was there since the body resurrection, their "birth" lol

And I guess for symbolism "two hearts", "two people connected" that's why they're on either side and close to the chest. And partially that Jin had tattoos and it's kind of a marker of who they were (as in they're not just some random soul/random person there).

I keep debating on whether to give Cedar the mole birthmarks that Jin has or not. In one hand I like the idea that some semblance of Jin came through. This is kind of macabre - but in the other hand I like the idea that Cedar doesn't have any of the birthmarks because essentially they got "burned off" when Jin got cremated haha;;

And then on top of that the curse that got put onto Jin also kind of messed things up too so also why "Jin" isn't all there. So then the Fool Arcana just kind of took over and why Cedar became a weird blank slate. (but not totally blank)

I'm still workshopping whether or not Jin was born with the curse or that it was placed on them later from their parent (not sure about both of the parents lol) Even still basically their parent(s) literally traded another human for more life or something, or riches, ya know the goods. And since essentially Jin is their blood the trade worked. But that gave Jin haywire magic and why they can't form a bond with any animal to get a familiar.

not to rain on your parade, but your peter theory heavily relies on owens recognizing henry's crimes by merely looking at chrissy's photo, and then acting accordingly. you said there's no way he would recognize this unless he knew the true nature of the creel murders, which you then claim could only happen if henry and his son were connected...

except henry kinda went around murdering everyone in the lab with the exact same m.o. (as we saw in all the massacre flashbacks), information that owens would have available given his partnership with brenner.

brenner, who also knew exactly what henry did to his family, and probably had it written somewhere on secret documents owens would have access to once he took over the lab (or by brenner telling him).

if you have a mass murderer kill a few dozen guards and children in a very specific recognizable manner (break every limb, then gouge out the eyes), and then you see a photo of a teen killed in the exact same way, you would think it's the same dude. particularly when you know this murderer was vanished to an alternate dimension, which you know is connected to this new murder because there's a literal gate forming at the site of the murder.

the tension as he sees the photo of chrissy is easily explained as him realizing that henry is alive (and brenner's mistakes continue to haunt them), and his claims of war and whatever he told el make sense considering he knows henry's ideology (destroy the world, make a new one without humans... all that jazz).

it's odd that the name peter shows up over and over, but it's only a reference to the fake casting call name, peter ballard, which was the name jamie's character was announced as so that it wouldn't be spoiled that he was victor's son (think of it as the way they were telling us it was him all along without outwardly saying it). it's not a sign that owens' son has anything to do with anything. the duffers don't need to overcomplicate an already complex storyline.

ok then explain why owens has ties to the creel family specifically. that’s a viable theory, however it doesn’t explain the connections he has through the rose imagery as well as asking the right questions to find henry before s4. he totally could know about the lab murders, i’d say it’s more likely that he does than not, but that scene of him recognizing chrissy’s photo has rose imagery which is an incredibly important symbol of the creel home. there’s nothing suggesting a connection to the lab massacre, but there is something suggesting a connection to the creel house

your theory works, but you don’t have much evidence to support it. it makes logical sense, but what can you use to prove that owens was connected to the massacre at the lab?

also??? when have the duffers ever done something solely for shits and giggles? if you wanna take it as a reference that’s fine but i went digging and that was what i found.

it doesn’t overcomplicate the storyline at all, actually. they aren’t giving peter some massive arc, they’re just fleshing out henry’s story a little more in a way that fills in little gaps and offers a strong motive. it adds more layers, but it doesn’t make things more complicated. it’s an answer, not a question. giving henry and owens 1 more character to solidify their connection really isn’t very complicated at all. hell they left smaller hints about henry than they’re doing with peter right now

if you don’t wanna believe in the theory that’s fine, but my reasoning for making the connections i did is pretty sound lol

Firestar and Sandstorm are both bisexual in Burning Thistles! and in canon probably lol

their relationship in BT is slightly different - not filled with as much initial hatred since Firekit was clanborn, but that doesn’t mean there’s not any tension between them in the early days, considering Auntie Frostfur liked to fill Sandpaw’s ears with whispers of Firepaw’s parentage

they’re very much in that “oh my StarClan you guys are basically already mates just ask each other out!!” phase in BT currently lol

also i think it’s funny that Sandstorm is friends with Creekflower (mostly bcus she’s friends with Fireheart and Cherryfur) even tho she thinks Creek is a traitor/stupid for getting with a kittypet (also think it’s funny if Sand had a brief crush on Creek too lmao)

gosh ngl Feathercloud from @firealder2005 and I’s fic Burning Thistles is by far my favorite character to not only write but to just... his personality, his story, his hardships, his family, his lovelife... I love it all sm i swear, and he’s not even a main character even vsjfsdkfjs but my love for him makes him one <3

Featherkit is one of Runningwind and Dappletail’s canonical kits- the deaf tom-kit who ‘wandered away’, but in BT he is Runningwind and Redtail’s son with Dappletail being his surrogate mother, born alongside his sister Crickekit :)

the amount of angst and fluff i can shove into this boy is incomprehensible

yep its a Burning Thistles Friendship Map as of Chapter 101! ...well, and a few spoilers, technically, but shhhhh. they’re minor anyway lol. i made sure not to do the big spoilery ones ;)

betcha cant identify every character here lol (i feel any avid BT fan could name 31/32 of them, bcus that 32nd one is a curveball whose only been important in like... 1/101 chapters. and prob only mentioned in.... 5/101?)

also everyone hates Grasswhisker and its... kinda sad. like, hello, she’s a victim... yeah she’s been really mean, but truly it’s been out of fear and desperation for Thistlestar to love her and only her just like she loveslovesloves him (why can’t he just love her? why isnt she good enough? her mind cries). like Airleap was the only one who was like “Hey wait a minute-” (and now everyone hates her bcus she was mean to Airleap... by blaming him for murder)
