Assorted FrUK/FACE Fam Headcanons

These are silly little thoughts I've had while drafting Migraines in Margaritaville, so these apply to the world of that AU (modern, human; FrUK parents raising NA bros in Massachusetts, US). Most of these involve food because I seem to think about them when I'm hungry???

• Francis and Arthur practice "one-parent-one-language" with the boys. Matthew took to French much easier than Alfred did, but both brothers managed to pick it up without much of a fuss. In elementary school the twins would use French to cheat on tests (they weren't allowed to sit next to each other after their schemes were discovered).

• Arthur set the grill on fire three times in one summer. Francis clearly doesn't learn from his mistakes and Arthur is too stubborn to let Francis do all of the work when it comes to preparing dinner.

• Follow up on the point above -- Arthur can prep vegetables and throw together food that doesn't require too much measuring or too many steps on the stovetop. He doesn't have the patience for most dishes and doesn't have a sense of what spices go well together/what is enough vs too much. Francis lets him help by chopping up vegetables and Arthur was usually the one to pack the boys' lunches. Sometimes they'd get leftover portions of whatever they had for dinner last night, but Arthur often defaulted to some sort of wrap with deli meat and assorted veggies/crackers for snack.

• Francis gives me similar vibes to those youtube moms who try to make homemade versions of popular American snacks. He may spend the weekdays at work in a kitchen, but on the weekends he's at home, still in the kitchen, trying to make homemade fruit leather and homemade cheese crackers for his sons.

• Arthur's the one more willing to let the boys get snacks from the store or take out. Francis is very much "we have McDonald's at home."

• Both Francis and Arthur would've been so excited to decorate the twins' nursery. They're both artistically inclined, be it in different ways. Arthur made blankets for both of them; Matthew is red and Alfred is blue. Francis paints floral designs on the furniture, in particular purple irises and both red and white roses.

• Because the twins were identical and because babies are kinda just blobs, they definitely accidentally mixed the twins up. The color coding might've come after the swap. They had a crisis about it. Francis "sacre bleu, we just gave two people permanent identity crises" Bonnefoy and Arthur "if we compare them to every picture we have of them we can figure it out" Kirkland. I'm imagining this happening before the twins have enough hair for their cowlicks to really form.

• It's tradition in the Kirkland-Bonnefoy household to have a box of Whitman's chocolates at every family party and Alfred is the reason why. One Christmas each twin got to pick out something special for the party and Alfred picked out the 22 piece Whitman sampler in the yellow box. They're not the best chocolates, but it became a tradition. Thankfully there's two layers in the box so Mattie and Al can have their own messenger boy pieces (the shaped chocolate that's the centerpiece of each layer).

• Neither Arthur or Francis have favor for one twin over the other. They both have their own activities they can do with Alfred and Matthew separately. Francis will cook and bake with Alfred and draw with Matthew. Arthur teaches Matthew to garden and watches old (by his son's standards) movies with Alfred.

• Francis is the parent the boys can come to no questions asked. Arthur isn't apathetic, but Francis is more inclined to give more thoughtful advice for relationships and general fuck-ups. He won't press on why or how something happened, but will help his sons figure out the best way to solve a problem.

• When Alfred and Mattie turned 10, Arthur wanted to teach them the importance of personal finance. He would give the boys $5 each week to spend on snacks at the grocery store (Arthur does the couponing and the shopping for the house). They were allowed to hold onto the money to use for later and could help with the couponing.

• Arthur drags the family out to Salem every Autumn. Sure, they live in Massachusetts and are well aware of how bad tourist season is, but he's fascinated with the city. Alfred initially went because he really liked this one New York style pizza shop in the Witch City Mall (how they got Francis to step foot in there, I don't know), but eventually grew interested in the witchy stuff Salem has to offer. Francis only puts up with it because the city has an art museum and weekly art fairs in the Fall. Matthew dreads their yearly trip. He loathes it. He'd rather tag along with Francis to the museum.

• Until the boys were old enough to start protesting, they had family Halloween costumes. Francis thought it was tacky, but saw the appeal when Arthur got the twins (still babies) all dressed up in lobster costumes.

aw, thank you! I actually have more headcanons for when nations die of radiation poisoning, but I figured that post would have more Oompf if I just focused on Alfred lol.

but since we're here (and I won't go into detail partly because I Am Not A Doctor but also because it's pretty.... gruesome), some generic headcanons on how radiation affects nations:

so the real killer of radiation poisoning is not that it damages body tissue or cells or whatever but instead that it damages the body's very DNA. and what that means in practice is that suddenly your body's blueprints are scrambled or, in some cases, annihilated. by itself, this doesn't cause injury in the way we'd usually think of it; like a blast of radiation may not - other than the heat - cause injury itself? but your body is constantly replacing old cells just to do simple tasks like digestion, growing new hair or fingernails or skin, etc etc, and radiation just! turns that right off! no more new cells for you! hope you have someone with extremely similar DNA willing to give you a fuck ton of white blood cells because you can't make any!

for nations specifically, there are a few ways I could take this as far as headcanons go: either 1) their chromosomes are supernaturally durable and, even after being scrambled, will eventually stitch themselves back together in a way that is physically impossible for humans, or 2) they just... create new completely DNA. this is kinda spicy because it means that while the nation person stays the same, their natural physical appearance can actually change, which would be a fun in-universe way to justify a lot of Himaruya's design changes (though it'd also imply that everyone with dramatic enough art changes has gotten blasted with radiation, which is... perhaps not historically tenable). it would also explain why everyone related to Arthur has eyebrows like his except Alfred, who's really probably more closely related to Arthur than the others depending on how you think nation genetics works. Matthew has the excuse of being Francis's kid too, and he looks like Francis; but Alfred just... where did those blue eyes come from? his height? his hair color? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ maybe the Lady Godiva device did it.

of course, the latter headcanon could get really convoluted really quickly if you wanted to be consistent with it, but it is a fun idea....

Does Matt ever get bitter towards Alfred for all the attention he gets from Evelyn (and even Francis) while still getting away with doing whatever he wants, while Matthew is stuck being pretty much ignored by the closest thing he had to a dad, and second best in Evelyn's eyes despite being far more dutiful? He's kinda the Quiet Kid™ to Alfreds Golden Child™. I know in fanon they're usually portrayed as pretty close but theres got to be a few times where resentment sparks up. Theres got to be some sting especially when Al and England act like theyre the "adults" and Matts just the right-hand man.

He has his moments, yeah. Not at all in modern day I think, though. But in the past he kept it to himself and it bubbled and boiled and then he gets his mum's full attention for maybe six months and then he mellows out like oh yeah. She treats me and Alfred different because we are different people. Makes sense.

Like, he was very bitter in 1921 for instance. The fact that he could only get Evelyn to understand the need to end her relationship with Kiku was by using Alfred as leverage and not himself really ate at him. It was a reminder of where his placement was, and then in turn where Jack's was. All of the kids really distance themselves from her in the 1920s, and only come back in '39 once the war kicks off and old habits die hard.

But at the same time, he loves his brother, and he loves his maman. He had long stints of time where he was on the sole receiving end of her attention for sure, but yes, he's always a little jealous over her. Not envious of her attention on Alfred, though. I think that's a distinction. My Matthew and Evelyn are very similar. They repeat each other's words and opinions and dont ever realise they're doing it. They can get quite jealous and irrational over each other.

But at the end of the day, Mattie is a genuinely kind person and is much more empathetic than his mother. He sees what's going on in front of him - for all the love and attention England wants to give, America makes her absolutely miserable at times. Anytime Matthew has done that, Alfred's at the core of it somehow.

So... it's a mixture of resentment at someone who he sees as throwing unconditional affection back in England's face (and he's seen and knows what conditional love does to a person following Francis' departure) rejecting what he sees as a genuine support pillar. He's jealous that his mum keeps trying to put energy into someone who for a long time wants nothing to do with her. He understands why Alfred does so. He wishes he could throw his weight around the way Alfred does, but at the same time, he's just not naturally inclined to.

But! He grows out of it. They all do. The shock to the system in 1921 was so necessary at the end of the day. He's a lot more than a middleman between the push pull of Alfred and Evelyn.

I do like the idea of he and Jack, too, wanting that same level of influence that Alfred exerts and either A) Looking and realising they are not willing to pay the price to have it, or B) yeah, they're just a bit resentful that they haven't been able to claim as much of the pie. They, too, have ambition and want to change the world. They'll never have the means to do it. I can see that being a source of resentment too, perhaps just as much or if not more at times than anything to do with their mother.

Hws Scotland is the king of silent gestures that he doesn’t acknowledge. I touched on it in part one of my ramblings tonight (and I think in an old post ages ago) but Alistair doesn’t know how to have/like having emotional conversations. He shows how he cares through gestures, like making you a cup of tea after a long day or going out and buying your favourite snacks because he noticed you ran out. And he doesn’t want or expect credit for it. He did it because he wanted to, don’t read into it. While he won’t ask whats bothering you, he’ll listen if you tell him.

I think hws England is similar (eventually I’ll coordinate my thoughts on exactly these two are really similar and make a proper post). It’s more obvious when Arthur cares though, while he has a good poker face when he tries, in everyday life his emotions are written all over his face. He’ll visibly worry when someone he cares about is sick or hurt and you can read the indecision on his face when he doesn’t know how to comfort someone. While I think Alistair is the type of guy that’d go deal however hurt the person he cares about, yet deny doing so. Arthur is more prone to getting stuck thinking about what’s the best thing to do/way to help.

Who they care about might also play into how I view this. Like I see Scotland as being close with France and Francis is very good at reading people’s intentions and doesn’t necessarily need someone to verbally express their feelings (kinda feel like Francis is a quality time kinda guy). Whereas, while Arthur’s also close with Francis, he’s also close with America and I think that sometimes Alfred needs verbal confirmation of someones feelings- though I do think that most of the time Alfred can read Arthurs intentions in his actions because I stick by my old headcanon that they know each other really well.

Basically, sidenote, Arthur gives me ‘do as I say not as I do’ energy. He’s the type of person that will say he’s not going to help you tidy up while picking the clothes off the floor. Whereas Alistair just kinda gives me the energy that he just downplays the nice things he does. Honestly idk, I’ll probably change my mind about all of this, not entirely sure of my thoughts on it. Let me know if yous have any opinions on it.

Alfred wouldn’t be that nervous to tell you the truth

Y’all have been together for a while now and he thinks that this will change nothing between you guys

He just tells you nonchalantly during another conversation

Like “yes you have absolutely have to pour the cereal first t h e n the milk oh btw I’m a country haha”

Alfred would get serious though depending on your reaction

If it’s good and you kinda believe him/roll with it/laugh it off he’ll be more assertive and show you proof of what he is

If you have a bad reaction and you get mad and ask why he never told you/what this means for your relationship Alfred gets super serious and takes your anger or grief maturely

Either way he wants to do all that he can to make you believe him while also keeping you as a S/O

Canada

Matthew takes a more serious and thought out approach

He thinks this conversation will change everything between the both of you

That’s what he’s so scared of and why he needs to take this super seriously

He’s gonna tell you that you both need to talk

Once he tells you he waits for your reaction to see if he can lighten up or if he needs to keep the serious atmosphere

If you need proof Matthew has it on him

If you need time to process he’ll give you how ever long you need

And if you’re scared of him/what’s gonna happen to your relationship he will do everything in his power to make you feel safe and secure again

The last thing Matthew would want from this is to lose you or your trust

England

Arthur is so serious it’s scary

I mean you can tell he’s been thinking about this for a while now because his mood has been down for the past few weeks

He’s just terrified of what you might do or think of him

He knows his past can be questionable, he knows his immortality can be scary to think about, and what bothers him the most is that he knows nothing about what your reaction could be

So he just sits you down over breakfast and tells you outright what he is while showing you pictures of him, France, Canada, and America to further prove himself

Arthur would be surprised if you had a good reaction to this, he would be expecting yelling not a gentle and accepting reaction

If you starting yelling or seemed to be panicking Arthur would try to calm you down but he’s also starting to panic and worry himself to death

No matter the reaction Arthur will try his hardest to remain calm and collected so it’s easier on you to process and hopefully accept

France

Francis wants to take a lighter less serious approach to this

He feels sitting them down for a serious talk will freak them out or make them think him being a country is a bad thing

So Francis decides to tell you at the end of a good day

He brings proof and keeps his tone light and calm in hopes to keep you level headed

He would be the most understanding and best at consoling his S/O if they were angry or overcome with worry about this

This isn’t his first rodeo after all

If you take the news well he politely asks if you want him to stay with you or leave for now so you can think some more without him there to possibly cloud your judgement

Francis is among the most worried about the decision you make after processing this

He’s been left behind before for many different reasons and hopes that the only reason you may leave him is because of old age

Russia

Ivan has no idea how to start this conversation with you

He’s terrified of what you may think of him, if you’ll view him like everyone else does after you knew the truth

Might unintentionally lock himself away in his office so he can think and try to curb his worry

It doesn’t work really but he eventually invites you into his office for a serious talk about your relationship

Ivan then proceeds to tell you literally everything, his proof is the way he retells everything he’s ever done with a scary amount of details

Reacting badly is what he expects, he won’t try to calm you down at all

Ivan will let you yell awful things at him, hit him, curse him, and blame him for everything if that’s what makes this easier for you

If you take the new well and even tell him you don’t mind/care about him being a country Ivan might cry on the spot

He isn’t used to people truly caring for him like that so having you say that and want to stay with him is more than anything he could’ve ever asked for

China

Yao isn’t going to beat around the bush

He doesn’t joke while reveling his true self to you

but he isn’t going to sit you down and talk all serious like

Yao just thinks he needs to tell you seriously enough so you believe him but not give you unnecessary stress by making it seem super important or scary

If you get mad and start yelling he may yell back

Yao just feels it’s unfair of you to get mad at him as if he asked to be a country and how he was supposed to tell you before hand when he wasn’t even supposed to be telling you now

If you take the news well he’ll just try to continue having a normal day with you

If you can’t do that he can respect that and give you space and time to think about the relationship and what you want to do now that you know

Spain

Antonio is similar to America in the sense that he doesn’t think it’s a big deal

He’s not fool enough to believe it won’t change anything between you at first, but he has hope it won’t end the relationship or leave a lasting scar

He brings up his status as a country very nonchalantly, showing you pictures and journals as if he was showing you an embarrassing family album

It’s going to be hard to get mad at Antonio after he tells you everything

He pretty much tells you the truth about him and his past immediately and tells you why he kept it a secret for as long as he did

If you do react badly he won’t blame you and he’ll be really sympathetic and feel guilty for dumping all this on you

If you react well and are okay with him being a country Antonio will just thank you, clear out his photos and journals, and then act like he didn’t just revel a huge secret to you

Austria

Roderich wants to take a serious approach to telling you this

He makes it really official feeling, possibly even asking you to meet with him in his office

He explains everything to you as soon as you sit down

Leaves no details out

tells you exactly who his friends Feliciano, Ludwig, and Elizabeta really are, and even shares some of the more unsavory parts of his past just so you know he’s not trying to con you or deceive you

Roderich hopes from how he put everything on the table that your reaction will at least be more confused or weirded out instead of angry or sad

If you do lash out Roderich keeps his cool and tries to talk you through it until your calm enough to think rationally

If you are confused/weirded out or take really well to the new information he will either leave you to your own thoughts until you want to speak or ask if you’d like to have some tea with him

Roderich really wants things to at least end civilly between the both of you if you won’t stay with him after learning what he is

“Cardverse : The Blessed and Cursed Family part 12 (End)″

And I've finally finished this story, which is a prequel of "Ace Awakening", a kinda project taking place in the cardverse universe! You might notice but in Cardverse, what I like the most...is the jokers! I really want to build a lore about them, their purposes, their powers, their behaviours...their birth. Peter and Arthur are brothers in Hetalia, and it would be really coincidental for Peter, who looks a lot like Arthur, to just ressemble him without a link. I liked to give an explanation of how Peter went to become a Joker. But since I can't put everything in the story itself, I will just take few time to describe Peter and Arthur nowadays relationship and the impact on the Kingdoms: As a joker, Peter grow very, very slowly so even if Arthur grew as an adult, he stayed a child. However, he has lost a part of his previous personality, and presents traits similar to Gilbert like playing mysterious, mischievious. It also seems that his empathy is greatly lowered, if there is some still left in him . Despite this, he seems to fully remember his early life, this complicity with his brother still remains and they keep on bickering about this and that. Arthur might be the only person of all kingdom to be able to scold a joker without fearing for divine punishment! XD This remaining link made Arthur believe there was still a way to avoid Peter to forget his humanity, it also made him determined to fully study about Jokers. After all, he is the only person to have witness the birth of a joker, and is the most knowledgable about it. The filiation link between the two is known only from some royalties (Yao, Alfred, Francis, Elizabeta, Ivan and Toris to be exact) and aristocrats close with the Spade crowns. It is easy considering jokers only appears before royalties as messengers, so most of people don't even know what they look like (and imagine them as literal daemons snatching children). You can tell that...it would not be a good idea to reveal the actual Queen of Spades is affiliated with a daemon, so it is kept a secret, even among other Kingdoms. Why would Club know though? Because Gilbert is the Hearts and Diamounds joker, while Peter is the Spades and Clubs one. Ivan, Elizabeta and Toris noticed the ressemblance, and their secret services confirmed the thing. An information that could be usefull for some political move, ya see?) ***** To be fair, it wasn't supposed to take so long, initially it has only 4 parts, but then I felt I needed more to express everything, and even now some parts could be added...but I don't have the strengh. Opinions on how Canada and America are as bros or high points of Engport over time?

Ooh ok I follow so many accs (such as yours!) that write quality Matt and Al idk if I’ll measure up, but I’ll try to say something original:

My first thought was just that they’re good bros 😂. They’re the type you can see on the street and immediately know that they’re brothers and they get along well, and not just because they look similar. (As opposed to siblings like Arthur and Alistair where the moment you walk into the same room with them you’re like 😶 what’s going on what’s the vibe here) When they’re together they make the people around them feel relaxed and at ease, because they’re relaxed and at ease with each other. However, I also believe that they’re siblings who don’t coddle each other — they tell it to each other straight, and can often be brutal af. Getting scolded by each other has more impact on them than anyone else: Al can easily dismiss a lecture from Arthur about being obstinate, but if Matt starts yelling at him to get his head out of his fucking ass, shits real. Similarly I think Arthur and most other nations have a hard time telling off Matt because he’s so nice and he doesn’t talk back, so Matt often goes to Alfred to get opinions on things with no filter.

So yeah, they’re close, but or perhaps because of that they’re also very aware of each other’s flaws (or what they perceive as each other’s flaws). Personally I think one of Matt’s biggest gripes with Alfred is his sense of responsibility/loyalty, or lack thereof. He knows that when it comes to his own duty as a nation/soldier etc. or his own people, Alfred is unfailingly loyal. But he’s wary of how Al treats others that are not necessarily bound to be within his interests — other nations, shares friends and family. A lot of this naturally stems from the fact that after Al left, all the pressure and responsibility of being the “heir” of the British Empire and the oldest child fell to Matthew. Not only that, Arthur pushed Matt extra hard and was even more strict with him because of his own hurt and fears of a “repeat” Alfred. So although Matt will never put it in as many words, for a long time he felt really bitter that even though they were brothers, twins even, Al shoved everything on Matt and pursued his own freedom. What rankled even more is that after leaving, Al tried to get Matt to join him too (by force if necessary, ahem 1812), to which Matt was like do you not understand that I have to deal with ur shit, and now ur telling me to abandon that shit on someone else and join you in pursuing an uncertain future just because you said to? So yeah, that stung. Another part of this is that Canada is friends with a lot of people that technically as an American ally he’s not “supposed” to be friends with — Cuba or Vietnam during the war are some examples. Having seen the things his brother has done/is capable of doing, he’s very aware that at any point his own relationships may be jeopardized depending on the political mood and tries to encourage Al to think about the “human” side of things in addition to the pragmatic side.

For Alfred, his main issue with Matt is that he’s a bit of a hypocrite. Like, Arthur is in many ways just as, if not more ruthlessly pragmatic than Alfred is, and yet Matthew never admonishes him; at best he gives suggestions as to what Arthur should do and if Arthur happens to insist otherwise, Matt will still follow through. Matt is also very protective of his other siblings like Zee and Australia and even HK and Singapore etc. Plus, Matt’s *ahem* relationship with Ned is something Al finds kinda iffy too — he can understand protecting Arthur or Francis, but having feelings for another imperial power is just???? No???? All these things combined make Alfred think Matthew is not so much driven by morals as personal feelings when he tells him to be nicer to other nations, and he’s not entirely wrong. It’s like Matt can condone a little bit of bullying, but not too much bullying, and his tolerance level varies depending on how close he is with the person in question. For someone like Alfred who has very clear cut values, even when he doesn’t quite act along the lines he’s set, that’s just wishy washy of Matt — dangerous, even. (This is a trait Matthew shares with Francis: both see the world in infinite shades of grey and neither like absolutes or setting hard boundaries, for themselves and for others)

Thank you for the ask, I will send a few songs that remind me of fruk, a whole playlist if you may, not only one song. I also touch a few of triggering topics as I explain the nations's personalities and relationships with one another so I apologize in advance if I upset/trigger someone and will put my trigger here - Warning - mentions of abuse, alcoholism, s*exual trauma. Under the explanation there is a playlist of songs that make me think of Ukfr/Fruk, so if anyone gets upset you can feel free to skip my general headcanons about fruk/ukfr relationship dynamics. There are too many songs that make me think of different characters or ships but I collected the ones that make me think the most of them.

I know the original song is by Lady gaga but this version is too sweet and cheesy for me so I chose the rock cover by the group Halestorm since I prefer it, it sounds more genuine and rough and kinda makes me think of the dynamic that ukfr/fruk has, that some people present is as just the enemies to lovers trope or them just fighting which is.....simply unhealthy????? Fruk is much more than that and I wish people would stop seeing it as a two dimensional thing, yeah they do argue on a lot of things and it is not the healthiest dynamic however it does work in my mind because they stick through thin and thick and that requires effort and true love since a lot of people nowdays do not take time to know the other person, they just jump into marriage and have a few divorces and just argue over everything and then separate, fruk is an off and on thing where they break and make. This kind of dedication is hard to find in today's couples. I know they're fictional characters and no one really cares but I practice my psychology skills and my knowledge of people around me, and I sometimes see people with similar or almost the same characters as fictional characters, they may not have all of their hobbies but they do act the same way. And certain pairs, no offence, just make me want to gag my self due to history with bad and toxic fans but if I look at it subjectivly and never encountered mean fans from a certain ship, I would say that they ship simply doesn't work. No ship bashing but as far as I know, people with this kind of personality from this ship that I dislike, and get upset when seeing fan art of, simply just do not get along and had a hard time divorcing, it is not only unhealthy and unbalanced, it is downright abusive because both partners seek control and to have the upper hand and this is not...what romance is about???? It is about two people taking care of each other, understanding personal space and boundaries, lifting each other up and yeah, they will argue a lot, sometimes for small things, sometimes for bigger things, but generally the point of romantic relationships is not someone using you, or abusing you financially and generally being better or bigger than you. This breeds insecurity and jealousy in the other partner and makes them feel inadequate. Usually such problems are not talked over and one of the partners acts passive agressive which is what ultimaltly leads to said divorce. So yeah, people can go away with their (BUT IT IS CUTE, IT IS SO FUCKING CUTE) pairing because real life pairings and how humans communicate and develop friendships and relationships isn't based on what your mind conciders and doesn't concider cute and there are lots of factors on whether relationship will ever happen like common interests, type personality, etc and just block me so I will never hear from them and their childish mindset ever again, which is why I blocked certain tumbrl fan art hetalia accounts who produce art of a pairing I (dislike) lowkey hate, for historical reasons, for manga reasons, for toxic fans who bullied me and made me go on 3 hiatuses reason and ultimatly in real life experience and psychology and how humans and the human mind works and what is healthy and unhealthy reason. Why should I support something where certain people have been hateful towards me and these same people that act like these characters and I know in my life are on bad terms in real life? Why shouldn't I just move on to something more realistic and more healthy, that I have seen that works with humans I know first hand? I am not a clinical psychologist and I have no power or saying in this but I had to write thesis and read books by psycholgists and analyze them in high school and my first year of Uni, in order to pass the year and I have also read reccomended books by a psychologist I went to because I wanted an advice on how to deal with my anxiety and talking to people, because my condition is extremely severe but I honestly feel stuck and try to improve but also feel confused, I sometimes feel like I am not doing enough to

self improve as a human. I sometimes come off as too cold or overly bitter and angry without intending to, and it sucks.

Francis is a really manipulative person and Matthew picked up that from him while part of Alfred's agression doesn't only come from confidence in his own abilities but the fact that England him self is an overly agressive person and is very dominant or at least used to be for a very long time, now he is more mild to keep his gentleman persona but he does suffer from severe anger issues which he hides while Alfred is prone to breaking things and screaming, Arthur is more prone to being rude, sarcastic and generally mean before he loses it. Matthew and Francis do not engage in fight if they can avoid it which is why sometimes people call them cowardly I think? And Matthew is a bit prone to being a codependent people pleaser as far as I see and he seems to have severe anxiety issues. Francis albeit charismatic and beautiful, is deep down in his core lonely.

I think that part of his pervertedness, shocking people with his s*xual humour and all of this sex obsession comes from trauma in his childhood and dressing like a girl. I wouldn't explain what the trauma in question was since it is not canon but I do headcanon that he had s*xual trauma and it is partly why Hungary dressed like a guy. I don't know if this is legit, it is bias from reading too much japanese fan comics relating to hetalia or just general history of humans and how they treated consent and what is moral today, wasn't amoral or against the law a few centuries ago, but I have seen artists touch on it. I think both Arthur and Francis suffer from neglect and they weren't particularly good fathers, in fact no country is, the whole FACE family is dysfunctional and while I love all of them, I kinda pity them. I think Rome was a bit discriminatory mostly towards France and never towards his other children while Arthur had to constantly prove him self and was bullied by his brothers. While other nations have suffered from trauma too (I headcanon that Prussia was burnt on stake and people threw rocks at him due to his albinism and being left handed) something similar happened to Arthur, who I headcanon that he was burnt for being a witch and Francis went a few times through the guillotine, or Arthur still having a bullet scar on his arm from the American revolution or Francis having nightmares from that day where Jeanne was burnt and waking up in his own sweat. Arthur also must suffer from workholism and alcoholism, judging by how much he works and goes to pubs to drink. Everyone chooses their own poison and how to cope with life and many use unhealthy coping mechanisms, hell, even I used unhealthy coping mechanisms a lot in the past and I am not proud of them, in fact, I try to improve.

I can talk about their history and how it relates to their mental health and what scars they have for hours but I would bore you. You came for a song and I am probably boring you so I apologize for writting a lot of words, in advance. I basically think that fruk/ukfr is the ultimate ship for many reasons because they click, I do ship spuk/engita/asakiku and many other things but fruk/ukfr is kinda like butter and bread, it is a great combination. I never said it is 100 percent healthy, however their relationship makes psychological sense and their personalities click. I know people like to present arthur as this dumb tsundere man that blushes and says baka, or he is this garbage rat dad that no one likes or francis is presented or at least used to be this perverted sex machine that touched other countries inappropriatly or at least the 2012-2015 fans saw him this way and while he still has the reputation of a pervert, what many young people in the fandom see as disgusting, I just see as an overly lonely man that just happens to have high libido and copes with it by having casual sex and just has a sex humour, the same way some people have fart jokes humour or darker, more cursed humour, I am really glad that fans mostly left off this whole - Francis is a r**ist and will grope you, in the past, because honestly r**e is not joke and as a character he clearly understands consent and boundaries and I don't think someone like him would do such a thing. Also Greece and Turkey have even higher libido than him and sleep around more, yet he is the ''pervert'', I don't get it??????????? but fruk is just so much more than opposites attract, they have a lot in common so I can't say they're full opposites, no one is truly. I have heard people ask why does anyone ship fruk when it is just opposites attract/enemies to lovers trope and I am honestly confused, because that is extremely rough generalization to say the least, it is like saying - All men/women are the same, it is simply wrong/uncorrect. I think they ''married'' five times - The Treaty of Paris (1657) formed an alliance against Spain. The Anglo-French Alliance (1716–31) formed another alliance against Spain. The Anglo-French blockade of the Río de la Plata (1845-1850). The Anglo-French joint invasion of Qing Dynasty (1856–1860). And the last one which is their official marriage The Entente Cordiale (1904) fought together in both World Wars. As far as I remember Francis tried to marry Arthur but he refused and why he refused is up for subjective opinion but I must write a whole thesis on why Fruk/ukfr works so well and people are not here for that, they're here for the music and I will provide. I also always saw Francis as the more gentle and more submissive partner, I just love to see him drawn in frilly beautiful dresses with bows and stuff and Arthur as the more dominant, I mean as a country he was a powerhouse during the 1600s-1800s and used to be a punkrocker, usually rockers are mentally tough and that man is extremely cunning and witty so...people drawing him as this useless baka uwu overly feminine anorexic boy that looks more like a tween rather than a 23 year old guy just assasinated his character in my opinion and it disturbs me but I am just some awkward human on the internet and no one values my opinion anyway because this is the internet and many people nowdays love to have hot takes and try to gain followers through clickbait stuff which sometimes goes out of control and everything just seems more fake and shallow to me, the more old I get.Okay that was my silly rant no one asked about but I feel really passionate about hetalia and Fruk/Ukfr. Gonna be real with you, I’ve never heard of that pairing! So gonna say, definitely a rare pair.

I don’t know about any historical context that would spark the ship (like how FRUK is just enemies to lovers to enemies and back in a never ending cycle). I’m not gonna get into the intricacies of nationverse because I don’t personally know enough about Chinese and French histories beyond broad understandings from my high school AP studies. Also, I’m not gonna consider canon material because I don’t think Fran and Yao have interacted much since seasons 1-4 and I hate early France characterization

If I were to throw them together in some sort of human AU, I’m not sure they’d get along and not in a fun enemies to lovers or toxic codependency kinda scenario. I think Yao can be dramatic in his own right but can’t stand Francis’ particular brand of over-the-top Drama Queen. These two definitely have their differences, but they have similarities that make them clash. You know how “opposites attract?” Yeah, the opposite of that.

In my head they’re both artistically inclined men who have refined tastes in food. They’re both Pretty And About To Make It Your Problem (Yao was the OG Pretty Boy but Francis is loud about his own attractiveness). Both of them experiment with their gender expression through clothing (I don’t think this would set them apart, but it’s definitely something I think about often with the two of them because I Envy Them). Both of them try to take on a mentor-figure to the younger people in their lives (For Yao it’s Kiku and Yong Soo and for Francis it’s Mattie and Alfred). Both are stubborn, proud, and opinionated.

I don’t know what would draw them together, but if this is a ship of yours Anon, I’d love to hear about it because this isn’t something I’ve heard of!

I’ve been thinking of a Bakery AU when I’m at work and Yao and Francis are actually the managers. Yao was formerly the cake decorator but ended up moving to be the department manager and regrets the decision immensely. He hates corporate because the way they do things is stupid and the way he runs the bakery is efficient. Francis is the assistant manager and is vying to become department manager but Yao doesn’t trust him. Francis is skilled and in theory is capable to be more in charge than he already is as assistant manager, but his ambition and need for validation would clash with the systems Yao’s set up and trained their employees with. Also!! When they train new employees Yao is very to the point and is a good teacher with some patience (he’s a perfectionist and likes to stick to his routine) whereas Fran handholds the whole way though. Yao is more reliable than Francis is but is prone to being a hardass. In the end they can get along at work, but their relationship is best left at that, especially since they’re rarely on shift at the same time if ever at all.

Arthur:

Artie was naturally feral. When he popped out of the ground, he wandered aimlessly until his mother found him

“There you are” and she dragged him back to her camp where his brothers were

He didn’t know them so he bit them

His only socialization for awhile was his mom and brothers so he didn’t exactly get to meet humans right off the bat the way other nations did as kids!

He often had chipped teeth from biting rocks or bones. His mom thought it was cute

Arthur didn’t get along with the village kids cause he was...rabid and they were not. They had traditions and a langauge and stuff like that and Art (along with his brothers) didn’t understand it...aw

He grew up pretty wild too, his pirate years were definitely some of his craziest cause he got to pretty much do whatever without consequences

Sometimes he’d cut off a finger or toe of someone he fought and wear it on a necklace. It fucking REEKED and his crew would be like dude that’s nasty but he didn’t care

He also did a lot of drugs. As a treat. He often looks back on his actions and cringes but he had a lot of fun lmao

Alfred:

When Alfred first popped out of the ground the first thing he learned to do was run

He just...ran around, sprinting like a bat outta hell through the woods. Rocks and sticks stabbed into his feet and twigs slapped him him the face

And when he got hungry he tackled a squirrel and bit it oh god uhhhh

He popped up about 5 miles from a tribe of Natives who were like...scared of him at first. Cause when a bloody child emerges from the forest at 4am, that’s not exactly a good thing

They thought he was a monster or something but after they gave him some clothes and food, he settled down by the fire and calmed down a considerable amount so...they didn’t have the heart to kick him out

He got along great with everyone! He was naturally curious, always wandering between people to check out what they were doing. He helped with tasks here and there from skinning deer to braiding hair

They were surprised by how quick he picked up on things. After only two days of teaching, he could expertly braid hair. After living with them for a week, he could skin a deer the way they showed him

He knocked his teeth out a lot cause he’d fall out of trees or get kicked in the face by animals so he’d make beads out of his own teeth. Awesome :)

Francis:

Fran popped up in the woods so he has a very similar experience to Arthur where he tuned into his instincts, made animal sounds, hunted with his bare hands, that kind of stuff

His mother found him after awhile and took him to the village where she lived on the west coast, thats a key difference between him and Arthur: his early exposure to people

He became very social very early on though he was still a brat. He would fight other kids who were physically his age knowing damn well that he’d beat them I to the dirt

He spent his teenage years killing Arthur over and over again so he developed insane assassin skills. Swords, poison, darts, knives, he knows how to use it all literally because he and his bestie just wanted to keep killing eachother

When fighting humans he’d stab them in the neck and watch them bleed out while making fun of them ‘aww! Poor thing!’...bitch...wtf

He realizes that was messed up but he was a teen then so he didn’t really know better

He has always been tame in the drug field. He tends to shy away only because he was worried about his self image...but then he’d get obscenely drunk and run around paris at 3am...the duality of man

In the 80s though he was a mess. He’d do 6 lines of coke and show up to world meetings in a fur coat sweating profusely. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles babey

He’s fallen off the Eiffel Tower before. He also pushed Arthur off of it a year later

Matthew:

Mattie is a woods child but like Alfred, he was taken in kinda quick

Mattie is a brutal fighter, as I mentioned in an earlier post. He cuts off his opponents arms and legs and punts them away. He only did that to nation oponnents though

Matt is more subtle tbh

But he does have his moments. He’ll drink a bottle of whiskey and go outside and the next morning he’ll wake up with a new bench. He doesn’t remember making a bench. Or cutting down the tree to make the bench. But he made it.

He’s eaten nails, paper clips, magnets, bolts, lots of small metal things just to see what his body does to them cause even as a nation, he doesn’t know how his body works. Turns out he just has to painfully shit it out lmao

He has also fought a bear. Did he win? No. Did he enjoy it? Also no

He has wrangled a wild moose before and rode it. I wouldn’t reccomend it and neither would he.

Michelle:

Michelle is a younger nation when compared to the other guys so she doesn’t have the same ‘I lived in the woods for months’ background

But she did pop out of the sand one day in front of a bunch of people which was startling to say the least

She was still born with her ‘animal instincts’ where she wanted to bite off fish heads and roll in mud, which she did

Her people took her in very quick though and taught her their ways so she is more ‘domesticated’ but I don’t enjoy using that term for people...but that’s kinda how it was

Do you like the idea of FACE Family? If so, what are some headcannons of them?

Yes I do actually! I hc Francis and Arthur as the boys’ parents along with RusAme for Alfred and a couple different ships with Mattie. In my hc it took a long time for Francis and Arthur to get over themselves and kiss, but now that they did they’re a very sweet old acting couple. Like some days they stay in and and just talk together, sometimes cuddling. They’re kinda weird about accepting Ivan, Arthur thinks its fine and Alfred can handle himself around Ivan (even if he doesn’t like him much) but Francis thinks Ivan is too dangerous and could genuinely hurt Alfred- So basically, family dinners with Ivan there are tense at best, especially with Ivan and Alfred being cuddly a lot. I also like the idea that Arthur and Alfred annoy each other to death about some stuff, like Alfred just saying stupid stuff to see his reaction or Arthur constantly embarrassing Alfred in front of Ivan- They’re more similar than they seem, with like father like son syndrome. As a result of that Arthur may do stupid things too, not as a reaction but thats just how he is. (Like running in with a suit of armor on to defeat a single spider)

Just read your hc about Alfreds intrusive thoughts and loved loved loved your characterization of him. However, it got me thinking that it’s kinda sad Alfred doesn’t tell anyone about them except Mattie, because I think Francis would be able to help, or at least understand, a lot on this matter. France is, after all, the absolute icon of internal strife and sociopolitical polarization and already has a fascination with the morbid and grotesque. I think that means Francis deals with cognitive dissonance and very very dark thoughts on the daily (The French Revolution is the natural example, but there’s also the lesser known Dreyfus Affair at the turn of the 20th century where France absolutely lost his mind). Which brings me to my question: how do you view Francis and Als relationship? Could there ever be a scenario where al shares his problems and gets some much needed advice or comfort?

Hi Anon,

So glad you like my characterization of him! I write a lot (almost all of) of my headcanons on the fly, so I’m always open to reconsidering ideas! I think it’s a good point that he probably should/would tell someone else, and I do think France could be a good option. I hadn’t thought of France as being someone who’s super experienced with the sociopolitical strife but you make an excellent point! I also think that, personally, France is a fairly sensitive person and a good listener to those he really cares about. He’s double edged that way; he can be flippant and downright cruel to people whom he doesn’t care for, but to his close friends he’s an incredibly good confidant.

I think that Francis and Alfred’s relationship is overall very good and fairly close, with a few speed bumps thrown in there. I think of all the European allies who helped America prevail over England, France was of course the one that helped the most, and I think Alfred’s friendship with France reflects that. I think that they bond a lot over philosophy, art, architecture, the finer things in life, etc. I think there was a very large and potentially long-lasting rift between them due to the French Revolution and throughout the Napoleonic Wars, in which they may have been stiff and cold towards one another. Francis is mad at Alfred for not having his back like he promised, and Alfred is mad that Francis is mad at him for making what he thinks is an obvious decision to stay out of the shit show. I personally think that when Francis heard Washington had been burned to the ground, a small part of him thought “serves him right.”

But I think they were able to bury that particular hatchet by the late 19th century, particularly after the American Civil War, which Francis was extremely relieved to see end. Alfred remained very isolated from most everyone from the Civil War up into the turn of the century, but I really see Alfred and Francis reconnecting in a meaningful way in the 1900s. Alfred barely sees heads or tails of Francis during WWI—that’s mostly Arthur’s area—but he sees him maybe once when he arrives, and once when the war is almost over. Then, I think they start to actually hang out again in the 20s and 30s, and then of course the Depression and WWII... and you kind of know the rest.

I actually see Francis having a similar relationship to Alfred as he does to Arthur, lots of bickering, rehashing of past ills between them, but whereas Arthur and Francis are very much Old Married Couple, Francis and Alfred are more like old college buddies who are very different but somehow became ride or die friends and enjoy going out together as much as they like roasting each other in public.

I can even see—when written well—Francis and Alfred having a romantic relationship, probably more of a friends with benefits sort of thing rather than anything serious. However, as I said, when done well, which it almost certainly never is. There’s a lot of weird power dynamics there that can get real bad real fast, but I think despite their mismatched personalities it could definitely work.

Alfred looks up to Francis for his romantic ideas and his breadth of experience in any number of worldly subjects, and Francis looks up to Alfred for his idealism, his curiosity about the world, and determination to devote himself fully to whatever he’s after. They think the other is hella weird in many ways, but they really do deeply respect each other.

Long story short, I can absolutely see Francis as a confidant for Alfred in some personal things, but I also think that Alfred would be very hesitant to bring him into that role and be vulnerable in that way, because Francis and Alfred, while good friends, do not always fully understand the other and how their brains work. He’s somewhat afraid that Francis won’t understand where he’s coming from. Francis would, I think, but Alfred doesn’t know that.

Alfred: My first immediate thought is he reminds me of season 1-2 Eren. Full of ambition, a set goal in mind, determined as fuck even to the point where he’s annoying as hell— yeah it works. His fighting style would be very energetic and kinda sloppy, he’s too excited to really have a controlled style. He swings around on ODM gear and wastes a lot more than he should bc he LOOVES feeling like he’s flying

Ivan: Gonna go ahead and just say he’s like a more relaxed version of Mikasa. Kinda overpowered LMAO and...laid back?? Idk he’s mostly there for support. Personality wise I think he has more sense of humor than Mikasa and is also more a lil more petty. He also doesn’t have the same obsession that Mikasa has with protecting Alfred (Eren)

Arthur: Watch out because the insecurity alarm is LOUD. I can see him being like Jean when it comes to not really wanting to take the role of leadership, and then growing into it really well but almost to a concerning extent. I don’t know what his fighting style would be honestly? The best word I can come up with is very...free and loose. Arthur was a pirate at some point, he would LOVE flying around with the gear. Same thing as Alfred lmao

Francis: This one is hard— I don’t think he fits any of the aot characters. Honestly it hurts to say but I feel like he would be one of the characters who is introduced and we grow to love, but is killed off later to have an emotional effect on the others. He would be another happy character that’s there to help and make everybody else happy, but also strong enough to handle himself.

Yao: This is a huge stretch but basically Levi. For one, he’s old as hell. Two, his role within the allies group is kinda to be the “These fucking kids are driving me insane, but I gotta watch them.” That’s literally the only thing he has in common with Levi. His fighting style would be very lazy I feel like, as in he’s kinda just tired and doesn’t want to be there. He gets what he needs to done

Ludwig: Reiner and him are the same exact fucking character. I mean it’s all there: the gay disaster who’s haunted by his past— what else is there to say? Also very much like Reiner I can see Ludwig taking on an older brother type role within the cadet group, and overall just being very supportive. In battle he’s not very fast but stamina and his encouragement makes up for it

Kiku: He reminds me of Bertholdt, he’s anxious and just wants to go home. He has the whole “never asked for this but has to” energy, and is basically a minor character within his own trio despite being extremely important. He’s similar to Ivan in the sense that he’s mostly there in battle as a support to others, however he can go ape if desired

Feliciano: I WOULD say Annie just to complete the trio, however her character is WAYYY to gloomy. Feliciano is essentially Connie and/or Sasha— comic relief that represses emotions with humor. His fighting style is very very playful (insert that clip of Sasha laughing and letting herself freefall). He’s also VERY fast, which makes up for his lack of physical strength.

so a while ago i made a post with the signatures i made for the characters in 1836, and i was kinda having a lot of fun with it, so i decided to make signatures for all the hetalia characters (im totally not procrastinating with the intensity of the sun rn wym). so here they are, with the names closest to canon that i could find. my commentary is also interspersed. anywho here’s the signatures!

so this first page is of the characters whose names are in latin and cyrillic, the scripts i feel comfortable writing in. this is 99% europeans, plus the us, canada, and cuba. this is alphabetized by the name of the country the character repesents but not their actual human name because im a dumbass, except for the last three, which are russia, belarus, and ukraine. belgium doesn’t have a canon last name, so i deferred to netherlands’ surname for her. denmark’s name here is magnus densen, which is the only full name given in canon. there are other potential first names and last names given for him (none of which are mathias kholer btw) but seeing as magnus densen is the only actual full name, that’s the one i decided to go with. i also used erzebet as hungary’s name, and beilshmidt for germany (who doesn’t have a canon last name but you know. siblings with prussia), tolys for lithuania, timo for finland, antoño for spain (more old fashioned than antonio), vash for switzerland, and irinya chernenko for ukraine.

this second one is mostly asian countries with scripts that i dont know how to write in/am not comfortable writing in. for most of the asian countries, and egypt, it’s common to use signet rings as a form of signature. im not confident in my ability to create unique signets for all of them and in five different languages that i niether speak nor know the script for, so i left that out. egypt’s official name is gupta mohammad hassan, but since the p sound doesn’t exist in modern egyptian arabic, i decided it wouldn’t make sense for him to have gupta as one of his names. while he would probably speak coptic, i doubt that many members of the government or even your average egyptian who’d be seeing his name on official papers (cops if he gets pulled over for speeding, personal credit card, etc) would be able to pronounce it. coptic is sort of in the same boat as latin with its status as a dead language that some people speak as a second language, and i don’t think there have been any native speakers for a few hundred years. for greece, i gave him both a roman and greek signature, because im a bit more familiar with the greek script than any of the asian ones. seychelles is included here rather than on the latin only sheet because she doesn’t have a canon surname. making it bonnefoy is a bit weird imo and not logically consistent with how former colonies names work in canon (look no further than any character from the americas), so i gave her my own. her name here is michelle vinot. hong kong also has his english name, leon, next to his cantonese name, but i wasn’t sure if he had an english surname, so i just left it as a first name (he’s already got a cantonese surname so i didn’t think an english one was necessary). anyway uh final note is that i hope taiwan and hong kong’s signatures are different enough from china’s bc i wanted them to be somewhat similar, but with varying degrees of divergence from china.
