10 underrated tips to become a better writer
hello hello, it's me again!
today i want to share some tips to improve your writing!
1. write in a different style
sometimes it's important to step out of our comfort zone, especially when it comes to writing. the next time you sit down to write for a bit, try to do something different from usual... try poetry if you always write prose; try fantasy if your thing is mystery; try adventure if you only write romance. it's up to you, just do it! who knows if you discover a new passion while trying this exercise...
2. write from a different point of view
i know it can be tempting to always write from a certain point of view, or to always use the same narrator voice, but (like on the first topic) sometimes change is needed to improve. you'll see things from another perspective, and maybe you can have a brilliant idea!
3. write with music
this one is one of my favorites! i love music, my spotify is full of playlists, one for each mood. try to create different playlists for your stories, and pick songs that motivate you, or that make you feel like you're one of the characters of your novel. this will not only give you a boost to write but also make you feel inspired.
4. set a timer
i always do this! it's a life changer. i started doing the pomodoro method to study and realized how effective it is. it's the same when it comes to writing: set about thirty minutes to write (it's up to you, depending on for how long you can be productive) and ten to fifteen minutes to relax. you'll see how much more work you can do with this method!
5. use prompts
you know how much i love prompts! i think they're so useful and help us so much to become more creative. they are a great way to step out of our comfort zone and develop someone else's idea in a span of a few minutes or hours.
oh, and if you're feeling adventurous, try this month's writing challenge!
6. write in a different place
guys! change your writing environment sometimes, especially when you're feeling overwhelmed or drained. i know it can be tempting to always sit on your sofa / bed / favorite chair, but sometimes we get so accustomed to the same place, that our creativity slows down, as well as our motivation. try to go outside to a park or a café, it can be so fun and you'll feel like the main character. or maybe, if you don't want to be in public, try another room in your house! just make sure you feel comfortable and don't have distractions around you.
7. change your writing support
do you always write on your computer? try to disconnect for a while, grab a pen and a paper, and let your imagination flow. it can be so freeing to write by hand sometimes, especially when you're plotting a novel! how cool it is to draw a scheme to connect all the characters and locations, and to doodle...!
8. find a writing buddy
personally, i don't have one, but i know it can be such a fun way to keep you motivated and to keep yourself (and the other person) accountable. it's great to have someone to share your ideas with, to give and receive feedback, and to lift you up to write when you don't like doing so.
9. write yourself a letter
trust me, it's amazing. it can be to your present self, past, or future, it's up to you. tell yourself what your writing goals are, what you are writing, how you see yourself in the future, what you're satisfied with your writing style, etc. just let it flow and re-read it whenever you feel unmotivated.
10. write with a sense of humor
i know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it can be so fun sometimes. try something less serious when you don't feel like writing. try to come up with a joke mid-dialogue, write a fun scene or re-write a serious scene in a less serious way. this exercise can be great to see things from another perspective, to try a different style, or to lift up your mood.
i hope this was useful! have a nice day!

I KNOW NOTHING BUT SHADOWS, @writingjourney
Ok so, I stumbled across IKNBS a few days ago and saved it to my bookmarks for a rainy day. Low and behold, said rainy day happened, and y’all.. I read it in a day. This story is ABSOLUTELY captivating. Which I figured already considering the writer, but whoa! Being an artist myself, I found myself constantly relating to the reader in this. She is me, I am her. Well.. without all the supernatural elements. And then, there’s her slowly building relationship with Papa Copia, the opening herself up to him, him showing his own soft side, and oh, don’t even get me started on the smut! It’s all so perfect honestly. Of course I had to make art for it, and then my hand slipped and somehow this happened 🫣 (I’m actually proud myself)

I Knew Nothing But Shadows by writingjourney
Papa Emeritus IV x Female Reader (Explicit, WIP)
Curious circumstances and a questionable curse from your childhood led you to becoming the resident artist of the local Satanic Church – and a sinister night you’d truly rather forget. Years later, you’re presented with another chance at proving your artistic worth. Only this time, you’re kind of falling for the awkward anti-pope who sits for you and he is oddly interested in the intricacies of your past that you’re so desperately trying to hide.
I am admittedly pretty late to this party but on the off chance even one of you hasn't started reading this masterpiece, I wanted to share.
This is hands down one of the most immersive fics I have ever read. There is an overabundance of expertly crafted moments to be found here. It must be a combination of pacing and characterization--but the result is something so satisfying that you will physically ache with how lovely it is.
Copia is a delightful combination of awkward, tender, patient, and (obviously) swoon-worthy. We get some wonderful cameos from the other Emeritus boys that made me grin from ear to ear. And reader, herself is such an intriguing and sympathetic protagonist. You will be totally hooked as Ibi leaves increasingly compelling breadcrumbs of the past that haunts her from chapter to chapter.
Thank you Ibi for sharing your incredible words with us and taking us along on this journey!!!
Please read, comment, & subscribe on AO3

I apologize if this comes across as rude or pushy, I was wondering if you were possibly making a mood board for Laurel Portman from First Bite? I really hope it's in the works, and I wanted to say your page is awesome. Thank you!
Don't worry, this is not rude or pushy at all! It's actually a really fair request. I always thought it was a little unfair how I did one for Valeria and Ilyas (even writing a fanfic for him), but nothing for Laurel! (They are a trio, after all 🤭).
There's one for him that's actually in the works, but I've put it on the back burner for a while!
Thank you for enjoying my page. I hope to get your continued support. Thank you ♡♡.

Day -387 before I have to hand in a fully written novel to not fail at uni
Unsurprisingly this is really hard.
What I've got so far :
- an outline (mostly filled out except for the parts where it says "idk improvise" and "bby girl grows a sense of humor")
- a word document; 2000 words in Comic Sans MS
- a coffee allergy, a severe tiktok addiction and a charming personality (useless against the uncaring of academic bureaucracy)

Fic/Author Recommendation
This is an appreciation post and fic recommendation for the illustrious author @writingjourney. 🖤
Let. Me. Tell. You.
I have read these multiple times. Just this morning, I reread Honey and Venom because I felt like I needed a hug from Copia, and it DELIVERED - with some added spice, a-thank you. 👀
5 Types of Christmas Kisses with Copia (+1) - Fem!Reader, completed - I've read it four times. I think about it constantly. I NEED winter with Copia.
How It Feels - GN!Reader, completed - My soul shattered and was pieced back together by Copia when I read this. It is the most beautiful and inspiring piece of fiction.
Honey and Venom - 18+, check description, completed - FRIENDS TO LOVERS BBBBAAAAAABBBYYY. My brain when I read this: please, please please, let me get what I want this time 🎶🎶
I Knew Nothing But Shadows - Ongoing fic, check description, possible 18+ - This is going to be such an epic and heart aching story, and I will live and die on the hill that is @writingjourney's creative talent. It is one chapter, one singular chapter so far, and I want to shove it into my heart. It's so good.
If you love Copia, you will love these fics. And make sure to drop a follow over at my friend's blog so you don't miss out on anything!

"Overcoming Writer's Block: A (Mostly) True Tale of Triumph, Tears, and Typing"
Writing a book is tough work, especially when you hit the dreaded writer's block. I've been there more times than I care to admit - staring at a blank page, waiting for inspiration to strike, and ending up with nothing but a headache.
But recently, I had a breakthrough that helped me finally come up with a new chapter of my novel, without losing my mind in the process. It all started when I realised that I was putting too much pressure on myself to write the perfect first draft. I mean, come on, who am I kidding? Nobody writes a perfect first draft, except maybe Brandon Sanderson or Nicolas Sparks, if you know what I mean.
So I decided to give myself a break and just write without worrying about whether it was good or not. I mean, it couldn't be worse than the last chapter of Game of Thrones, right? (Sorry, George R. R. Martin.) And you know what? It worked! My ideas became clearer and the words flowed more easily, and I finally wrote something digestible and satisfying.
So if you're struggling with writer's block, my advice is simple: don't take yourself too seriously. Give yourself permission to write a crappy first draft, with the understanding that you can always go back and fix it later. And if all else fails, just take a break and binge-watch some Netflix or anime. It worked for me, and it could work for you too (just don't blame me if you end up getting hooked on Wednesday or Attack on titan).
Writing a book is a tough journey, but it's worth it in the end. Just remember to have fun along the way - after all, if you're not enjoying the process, what's the point?

Discovering My Passion for Storytelling
I hope you're all having a great day. I just wanted to share with you all how much fun I've had posting DnD fiction every day for the past two weeks. I've been blown away by the response, and I'm so grateful for all of your support.
For years, I've been writing stories online and sharing them with the world. But it wasn't until recently that I discovered my passion for storytelling. I've been so inspired by all of the amazing stories that I've seen on this platform, and I'm excited to continue sharing my own work with you all.
I have some exciting news to share━I've recently had my first professional audio short story published! It's been an incredible experience, and I can't wait to share it with all of you soon.
Thank you again for all of your support, and I look forward to continuing my journey as a fiction writer.
