Fantasy Guide to Creating Your Own Language
Tumblr media
When writer's set out to world-build, language has a huge role in creating new cultures and lending a sense of realism to your efforts. A world and people just feel more real when language is involved. As the old Irish proverb says "tír gan teanga, tír gan anam”. A country without a language, is a country without a soul. So how can we create one?
Do Your Homework
Tumblr media
First things off, you should start by studying languages. Nobody is asking you to get fluent but it's important to understand the basic mechanics of language. You will start to see certain tricks to language, how verbs are conjugated and how gender effects certain words. It will be easier to make up your own when you know these tricks. For example, in Irish one doesn't scold but "gives out to" - "a thabhairt amach". In German, numbers are arranged differently to the English with the smallest digit arranged before the tens for example 21 - Einsundzwanzig. By immersing yourself in an array of different languages (I recommend finding ones close to how you want your language to sound), you can gain the tools necessary for creating a believable language.
Keep it Simple
Tumblr media
Nobody expects you to pull a Tolkien or channel the powers of David J. Peterson (hail bisa vala). You're not writing a dictionary of your con-lang. You will probably use only a handful of words in your story. Don't over complicate things. A reader will not be fluent in your con-lang and if they have to continually search for the meaning of words they will likely loose patience.
Start Small
Tumblr media
When you're learning a language, you always start with the basics. You do the exact same when writing one. Start with introductions, the names of simple objects, simple verbs (to be, to do, to have for example) and most importantly your pronouns (you will use these more than any other word, which is why I always start with them). Simple everyday phrases should always be taken care of first. Build your foundation and work your way up, this is a marathon not a race.
Music to the Ears
Tumblr media
If your creating a new language, you're more than likely doing it phonetically. Sound is important to language and especially a con-lang because you want to trick your reader into thinking of a real language when reading the words on the page. I suggest sitting down and actually speak your words aloud, get the feel of them on the tongue to work out the spelling. Spellings shouldn't be too complicated, as I said before the readers aren't fluent and you want to make it easier for them to try it out themselves.
Also when you're creating the con-lang, it's important to figure out how it sounds to an unsuspecting ear. If a character is walking down a street and hears a conversation in a strange language, they will likely describe to the reader what it sounds like. It might be guttural or soft, it might be bursque or flowery. It's always interesting to compare how different languages flow in the ear.
Writing in Your Language
Tumblr media
Now that you've written your language and created some words, you will want to incoperate them into your story. The way most writers do this is by italicising them. As a reader, I generally prefer authors not to go too overboard with their con-lang. Swathes of con-lang words might intrigue a reader but it can leave them confused as well. It is better to feed con-lang to your readers bit by bit. In most published works writer's tend to use words here and there but there are few whole sentences. For example in A Game Of Thrones by George RR Martin, has actually only a handful of short sentences in Dothraki despite the language being prevalent throughout the book. Daenerys Targaryen pronounces that "Khalakka dothrae mr’anha!"/"A prince rides inside me!" and it's one of the only sentence we actually see in actual Dothraki.
There's also nothing stopping you from just saying a language has been spoken. If you're not comfortable writing out the words, then don't make yourself. A simple dialogue tag can do the trick just fine.
Know your Words
Tumblr media
I do recommend keeping an actual record of your words. Make a dictionary if you want or a simple list of words you need. This is one of the most entertaining aspects of world building, have fun with it, go mad if you like. Also here's a short list of questions you can ask yourself about language in general which might help your juices flow.

Grishaverse world-building files for fanfic Writers - important question
Last year I worked on a for Grishaverse that was meant as a help for fanfic writers.
I wanted to have a website where I would upload them, but my interest in Grishaverse has waned and I'd like to ask if there is somebody who would like to adopt them, i. e. upload them somewhere so that people have access to them.
They are in PDF format, but I can also provide the original INDD files created in InDesign in case you'd want to add something (even though you can also add/change things to the PDF if you have Acrobat).
Also: In case somebody wants the files for their own use, I can send them to them anytime.
This is what I have:
List of all first names and surnames both from the books and season 1 of the show (I wrote down names from season 2 on a scrap of paper, but didn't add them).
Tumblr media
2. Geographical objects, both named and unnamed.
Tumblr media
3. I started to draw a map that should have included towns etc. that are not on the official maps, but could be located from the mentions in the books... but it's not finished, so sadly that information will not be in the files.
Tumblr media
4. Legendarium (mentions of legendary creatures and mentions of related in-universe fictional written works).
Tumblr media
5. Conlangs in Grishaverse. That one is probably not that interesting, and the conlangs are a mess anyway.
Tumblr media
I would be very happy if there is somebody who'd like to take care of these.

Between the Reposts
Between the reposts, of racoons with hats and fandoms of bread that can calculate stats is pictures of children dying guns drawn at their heads and if they are not yet dead then they will not Survive this. Between all the reposts, of famous explorers and stories about childhood boarders is letters from their mothers begging for some other reality for their children to be brought back to them as they are left there crying. Between the bloody reposts, of characters and their cats lovers and newly decorated flats is the news of the 'war' news of the 'war' news of the torture. Dogs, butterflies, BUY A NEW PC, my brother is eating cheese, I HATE APRICOTS, this is the best Pokémon, I love my dad, shitty books, how to film your heartbeat, I lost my bag crowds out the hungry, crowds out the dead, crowds out the hungry, crowds out the dead. The noise speaks volumes, and only noise will be what's left.

ATTENTION ALL MANDALORIAN CREATORS: FREE 3D POV RAZOR CREST MODEL!!!
This is a great rescource I found for anyone who writes or makes art taking place in the ship! It has helped me write more accuratley so its more realistic, and it will greatly help me draw the comic because I can get custom shots and anggles to use as backrounds that are otherwise never shown in the show (I will include some screenshots of cool shots I will be using). And although SOME details are simplified, the main structure of the Crest is accurate and will likley be more than enough for my purposes at least as a base.

My God, just recently I watched Hotel Hazbin, and it just amazed me! Especially Cannibaltown and its inhabitants, they are all so cute, aristocratic and at the same time deadly!
So based on this I came up with an idea.
What if we take the Reader, who is also the leader of a small settlement of cannibals isolated from everyone, who are followers of the red crown, who miraculously managed to survive and hide, isolating all the settlements from everyone and waiting for the prophecy and the lamb to happen, which will free “the one who waits.”
It would be very interesting to see how the already defeated five bishops who are in the cult of the lamb accidentally stumble upon a settlement where Narinder’s followers still live, who eat the flesh of "heretics" and those who want to completely destroy Narinder's legacy. At the same time, they still continue to remain like one big friendly family, with their own manners and friendly character)
(I apologize in advance, because English is not my native language, but I hope I conveyed the essence correctly)
This wont be headcanons. mainly because i don't know exactly how i'm supposed to write this as headcanons. But i hope you enjoy!
I havent watched Hazbin Hotel yet, but i will try my best to make something somewhat like you asked.
Cult of the lamb ex-Bisops + Narinder / TOWW x Reader who is a Cannibal leader.
(this will be with the bishops in follower form).
Narinder / TOWW
Tumblr media
Narinder was out gathering some meat for the cult per the lambs request when he suddenly heard a sound from somewhere. It was loud, maybe a shout? A cry? He didn't pay much attention to it at first. But curiosity got the better of him. When he went to investigate the general area, all he could find was some red robes and the remains of a (newly dead) body. It had definetly been a planned attack, that much he was sure of. It was obvious looking at the robes, it didn't have as much as even a singular scratch on it.
Suddenly he heard a noise, Narinder got ready to fight but was met by a seemingly innocent, joyful smile as you, greeted him. You offered him shelter and food for the night and he accepted the kind offer, not wanting to stay out too late.
Upon arriving at the little cult, he was surprised. Everyone seemed to be running around, playing and just having a fun time overall. You didn't have much of anything, yet everyone seemed perfectly fine. Nobody was even remotely sick, or lacking in nutrition. This did make him slightly suspicious. You told him that you'd have to go take care of some ''buisness'', he didn't really care too much, but he did keep an eye on you to make sure you weren't scheeming anything. A bit later, you came back, soaked in blood, and a bone in hand, ruínging a bell. It was then you announced dinner was ready, as well as in a slightly saddend tone announcing that a dissenter who was especially troublesome had been taken care of.
Narinder immidietly put two and two together, and realized that the dissenter you were talking about, was now the meat in the bowl of stew sitting in front of him. He freaked out a little and questioned you about it, You calmy told him that it was how things were around the area, thoose who failed to follow the teachings of the red crown, would help the faithful, by giving them energy, and filling their tummies. You also informed him that, after having to hide as a result of his excile, that rescources were not easy to come by, so it was how things were, and that everyone was fine with it, even scrapping together some vegetables for thoose who'd prefer not to indulge in the cannibalism. Most did so there was enough for a good bit of vegetable stew for him and a couple other followers who simply were too disturbed by the concept but didn't want to leave the cult.
Narinder couldn't help but feel as if he was falling for you, a tiny bit. A sweet, kind leader who wasn't afraid to do what had to be done. Fufilling your own needs first, but making sure everyone felt comfortable after your needs were met.
Narinder would start visiting your little cult whenever he was snet out to get anything for the cult. and if you were up for it, he would be more then willing to ask the lamb, if your cults could kind of join together, your cult taking care of the dissenters who'd keep dissenting no matter what. He'd one day confess his love for you while you two were enjoying the guts of an outsider who had tried to harm your followers, It was a bit akward, but you just gave him a quick kiss, and if you decided to pet him then he'd practically melt into your touch.
Heket
Tumblr media
Heket had thought that all cults worshipping the red crown other then that god forsaken lambs cult had died out. She had done so much to try and stop it, yet it seemed near inevitable.
She knew Anura the best so, naturally she took almost every opprotunity to go there, mainly to get away from the cult. One day she had heard a noise comming from a bush. Not afraid to fight, she got ready to take on whatever would jump out at her, After a bit nothing happend. She stopped for a second wondering what it was, before continuing to walk. Suddenly, she heard a soft, quiet, humming. It sounded nice, Heket went to investigate the sound to find you minding your own buisness. She knew something was off, she could tell very easily, but she couldn't quite put a finger on it. You introduced yourself to her, showing her around your cult, and talking about the history behind it
She was just taking a walk in Anura, gathering some mushrooms for the cult, when she saw you. Her whole view of you changed that day. As you were cleaning out the blood from the intenstine of a follower, whilst another of your cult members were chopping up the flesh, and another was boiling the sausages that had been stuffed with meat, and twisted to make hotdogs. You asked your friend if she was hungry and offered her a sausage. She accepted and then the little ''secret'' you had was out.
Heket was definetly amused at how your cult was. Everyone knew eachother and cared for one another like family, yet, every time you made your followers eat the flesh of the people they once knew, they seemed to only get more faithful. You even had options for thoose who didn't want to. Truly a place for everyone. upon revisiting the cult she asked you about it, and you told her that, after worshipping the red crown was forsaken, you and your followers had to go into hiding. And therefore you had to do all things nessecary to survive. If one member was caught, then surely everyone would be dead. so scavaging for plants, seeds and other things like that was out of the question, instead having to settle for whatever was available. Thats when you told her of how, thoose who dissented too much would either end up having to rot in a cell somewhere or you and the rest of your cult could get some use out of them, via cannibalising them.
She didn't really think much of it (She probably ate a couple of dissenters too back when she was a bishop herself). You treated thoose who had passed, and thoose who had been faithful with respect. promising to give them a proper passing, and not eating their remains, no matter how desperate things got. One day while at the cult you were even serving up a follower who had tried to sneak into the catacombs to try and take the meat from a passed elder. You of course didn't tolorate that in the slightest bit.
The day she asked you out, she had planned to cook a meal for the two of you, to eat alone. You seemed to read her open as a book because the second you two were alone, you gave a quick little kiss on the cheek, and confessed your love for her, right then and there.
Leshy
Tumblr media
It was a cold, stormy night. And out on a journey to find his eye, Leshy was slithering around. When suddenly he tripped over something. He was met with somewhat of an embrace, rather then the cold dirt, as you greeted him. Offering to help him around, and to help him try to find his missing eye. You took him back to your cult, where everyone gave him a warm welcome, You gave him some soup. Leshy however, having a very good smelling sense to make up for his lack of vision, could immidietly smell that something was off. You, knowing that he couldn't see and wanting to try and calm him down fro, thinking you were trying to poison him, just told him that it was the meat of a worm follower who had recently started to dissent alot. On one hand it calmed him down a bit, that he wasn't being poisoned. On the other hand, it freaked him out even more how casually you just talked about turning a person into soup.
You told Leshy that, nobody would hurt him, and that you'd make sure of it. Your calm energy, and words of comfort definetly helped him out. The kindness of your followers towards him despite what he did, made him feel welcome
when he asked exactly who you and your cult was worshipping, he got surprised at the fact that you also worshipped the red crown. Not that it wasn't a possibility, but most people who had worshippec the red crown had been found, then put to the blade. He himself witnessed almost every single of its followers die infront of him. To think that you and this cult of atleast 60 people had hidden that well from him, and his siblings, just surprised him.
His amasement at how you handled, well, everything! You almost managed your cult better then he did when he was a bishop. You made sure everyone was comfortable, And that no boundaries were overstepped, as long as the followers of the cult were to be faithful, and respectful towards others. Your willingness to help others, both inside and outside of your cult, as long as your, and your followers needs were met, definetly lead to him developing some feelings towards you.
He'd start visiting more often, especially after getting his eye back, You'd make sure to avoid having him around especially gory sacrifices or executions, if we didn't want to see them.
Leshy would one day just, go up to you, kiss you, then wait to see how you'd react. When you kissed him back, immidietly followed up by a hug, was definetly one of the happiest moments of his life.
Kallamar
Tumblr media
Kallamar was just on a walk to calm himself down, when he saw you, he immidietly panicked. You just saw him, and casually waved with someones severed hand. His screams could be heard all throughout the old faith. He was practically unable to move, And he was terrified the second he realized, that you, were only getting closer. By the time you were close enough to actually talk to him, he was practically on his knees just begging you to not hurt him. You reckognized him as one of the four bishops that had tried to kill you and your followers back when Narinder was banished, Didn't stop you from trying to calm him down, and telling him that you weren't gonna be hurting him any time soon.
He was shocked that a cult like yours was still going, especially after everything he and his siblings had done to try and eradicate any evidence of the red crowns existence. Turns out, you and your followers had been living far back in the caves, worshipping the red crown the entire time. Knowing that the prophecy of the lamb, that would free your great leader, would one day be fufilled. You had basically managed to make a secret society, but with everyone being cannibalistic.
You were terrifying, yet, oddly comforting. You made Kallamar feel like he was in danger, yet safe at the same time. It seemed you had affected you followers in the same way, with them gladdly following your word, doing as you said happily, both in the fear for their lives, but also out of will. Everyone knew eachother down there, and it gave people less reason to dissent. Thoose who did, would lose their life, as well as make everyone around them have to lose someone close to them. It hurt you and everyone else, what you had to do for survival, but it was nessecary. They understood, and everytime food was getting low, many people would be willing to offer themselves up, for the sake of everyone else.
Kallamar would never confess his feelings to you, but you became an unofficial couple because, his crush was clear as day to everyone around him, including you. so you just started being romantic, and started dating, no confessions needed.
Shamura
Tumblr media
Shamura didn't leave the cult too much, not without someone by their side atleast. They however do have a tendency to just, wander off to god knows where. It was on one of theese times, that they stumbled upon what they at first thought was the cult of the lamb, because of the robes. Upon seeing a bunch of new faces, they started to think otherwise. You however, were kind, and accepting of them stumbling upon your little settlement. Offering them something that could remind them of their days in power, Something akin to eating the dissenters of their cult, for power.
Shamura could immidietly tell, that something, was different, about the food they were being served. After asking you, they found out that an outsider had tried to attack some children, much to their mistake, so you simply took care of them, and served them up to preserve space. It made sense, as the area had not much if anything at all to grow crops at, so having to provide for a whole cult would be difficult without some other food source. You started talking about how, it had been a family tradition, that you had brought with you as a solution to providing food and taking care of dissenters in the cult, at the same time.
You decided to try and teach them a bit about how to use every bit of the body for different dishes, and what nutrition, the different body parts had. It was knowledge Shamura hadn't heard of before. but something they'd love to hear more about, learning every single bit there was to know about the body, and surviving in places with close to nothing.
Your cult being the only remaining that worshipped the crown before Naridners excile, meant you had lots of ''Forbidden'' knowledge. Almost anything related to death, or the afterlife was something anyone in the cult could talk about for hours on end, regardless of if it was an adult or one of the many children. You knew how to preach, and you did it startingly well.
Shamura could see your cult and the lambs, merging together, or yours potentially growing bigger. Your charisma, your soft, gentle voice, your aura, everything was just so, calm and caring about you. And to think that you were possibly one of the most brutal leaders out there when you wanted to be or needed to be, it was seomthing that they knew was the sign of a great leader.
They would bring some books and some tomes from their cult one day and ask if you wanted to read with them, you accepted, and you two spent the evening together, cuddling, and enjoying eachothers company.

hi sorry if im being a bother but like. how do you be creative? or just have creative ideas in general? your art is always so unique and interesting and so different but I always feel like im never creative or have no ideas. idk if it has to do with me just not being able to focus easily but if you have any rescources or tips or anything really that helps with being creative, if it isnt too much of a bother, could u share them? ty sm
so this has been sitting in my inbox for months, i’ve been wanting to answer this when i had time!
here’s some stuff that helps me:
- an inspiration board by your workspace of other’s work and things you find out and about that interest you and doodles of your own
- writing down simple poetry or prose that you can later attach ideas to
- planning out concepts and compositions more akin to how one would assemble a collage ie. layering very visually different subjects and text
- exploring other mediums! sometimes ideas come better in 3d than 2d for me, this also applies to the work of others you view, i adore some good textiles or photography or films, and leading off that, follow lots of artists!
- let your interests motivate you! wildlife and paleobiology and queer love and my fav video games always make me want to create
- lastly be kind to yourself!
social media especially dictates creatives should always be pumping out perfect, innovative work but sometimes you just need a quiet week. sometimes you gotta make “meh” work and not post it or have a messy, illegible sketchbook. thats how art truly goes.
i can struggle with focus too, i can catch myself pacing for an hour straight or sitting down for two hours and getting 20 minutes of work done and other adhd brain shenanigans but i try my best to be kind to myself and try to create an environment to accommodate that.
treat yourself with respect too, art is a process and journey and we deserve to enjoy that act of creation and vulnerability and expression 💛

Seven Sentence Sunday
Thanks @sugdenlovesdingle
This is another 911/Marvel crossover I'm playing with. Currently the only ship I'm set on for sure is Phil Coulson/Clint Barton. I also don't know how to count.
~
"What happened to you being the one with it together and I'm the walking disaster?" snarked a voice from the doorway of Buck's hospital room. He looked up in surprise at the voice.
"Clint? What are you doing here? How did you even manage it with all the mess? Isn't there some evil guy to stop from destroying the world?" he tried moving to face Clint better and winced slightly.
"Yeah, well I had to check on the baby Agent that felt it would be a good idea to try fighting a Tsanumi. Something not even Thor does." Moving quickly Clint helped adjust Buck's position with minial pain. Clint was no stranger to similiar injuries. "Did the head injury make you forget the rescources I have at my fingertips?"
"You mean the resources I have at my fingertips and allow you to use on very rare occasissions?" A man in meticlous suit that both drew the eye but also made you write him off as not a threat entered the room giving Buck a smile even as Clint pouted. "Good to see you mostly in one piece Mr Buckley."
"Hey, Phil, it's good to see you too. Even if you had to bring him with you."
Clint sticks his tongue out at Buck while Phil hid a small smile.

okay maybe a weird question but you're the only other belgian person I know on this site 😭 I'm from a small belgian town but would love to know more about the big cities, and about POC culture within the big cities like Antwerp and Brussels. I'm a writer and have thought about writing belgian poc characters but wish to do so with accuracy and utmost respect. My searches so far have given me nothing, BUT I'm really bad at research. Which is why I'm reaching out to you, I'm wondering if you might have an idea of a starting point or how I could better do my research?
(okay for why doesn't know, a quick 'I am so so white' disclamer, so I' can only refer to other sources :)'m not talking from experience here)
Hi! Id recommend Kif Kif, they're an Antwerp non-profit focused on anti-discrimination and fighting racism, they're pretty much always putting out rescources, from workplace discrimination laws to political commentary to empowerment projects for people of color and they also share a lot of news or protest of other organisations so they're a good source to keep you finger on the pulse of everything
Hand in Hand is also an antidiscrimination platform but as the name suggest they work from the base of having both people of color and white people protest together so they provide more rescources white people can use, like Kif Kif is more self-advocacy and peer-to-peer support, so if you keep track of both you get both rescources you yourself can use and a perspective of people of colors side and the projects they set up internally, so that's a more well rounded view
So that's it for the theory, now the best way to know the culture and the life of people is of course to know the people themselves.
There probably isn't much going on in your town but I'd recommend travelling to a city and see/do some activities with a multicultural audience, spoken word/rap/hiphop shows have the added benefit that people do open up about their lives there, but you also can be more interactive with food kitchen projects, art exhibitions, other projects... Volunteering is a surefire way to get interaction.
And long term, if you have written something or you have put your storyline together it's never a bad idea to have a conversation with a paid advisor who can point out if you're for instance accidentally perpetuating a stereotype, bc how much research we do and how many POC we know we'll never have the entire picture bc we're not living it, and it's better for everyone involved to have someone point this out nicely before you publish than have a negative response later! :)

Houses were made of either sun-dried clay bricks or stone which were painted when they dried. Ground floors were decorated with coloured stones and tiles called Mosaics. Upper level floors were made from wood. Homes were furnished with tapestries and furniture, and in grand homes statues and grand altars would be found. Furniture was very skillfully crafted in Ancient Greece, much attention was paid to the carving and decoration of such things. Of course, Ancient Greece is ancient so I won't be going through all the movements but I will talk a little about columns.
Doric: Doric is the oldest of the orders and some argue it is the simplest. The columns of this style are set close together, without bases and carved with concave curves called flutes. The capitals (the top of the column) are plain often built with a curve at the base called an echinus and are topped by a square at the apex called an abacus. The entablature is marked by frieze of vertical channels/triglyphs. In between the channels would be detail of carved marble. The Parthenon in Athens is your best example of Doric architecture.
Ionic: The Ionic style was used for smaller buildings and the interiors. The columns had twin volutes, scroll-like designs on its capital. Between these scrolls, there was a carved curve known as an egg and in this style the entablature is much narrower and the frieze is thick with carvings. The example of Ionic Architecture is the Temple to Athena Nike at the Athens Acropolis.
Corinthian: The Corinthian style has some similarities with the Ionic order, the bases, entablature and columns almost the same but the capital is more ornate its base, column, and entablature, but its capital is far more ornate, commonly carved with depictions of acanthus leaves. The style was more slender than the others on this list, used less for bearing weight but more for decoration. Corinthian style can be found along the top levels of the Colosseum in Rome.
Tuscan: The Tuscan order shares much with the Doric order, but the columns are un-fluted and smooth. The entablature is far simpler, formed without triglyphs or guttae. The columns are capped with round capitals.
Composite: This style is mixed. It features the volutes of the Ionic order and the capitals of the Corinthian order. The volutes are larger in these columns and often more ornate. The column's capital is rather plain. for the capital, with no consistent differences to that above or below the capital.
Ancient Rome
Rome is well known for its outward architectural styles. However the Romans did know how to add that rizz to the interior. Ceilings were either vaulted or made from exploded beams that could be painted. The Romans were big into design. Moasics were a common interior sight, the use of little pieces of coloured glass or stone to create a larger image. Frescoes were used to add colour to the home, depicting mythical figures and beasts and also different textures such as stonework or brick. The Romans loved their furniture. Dining tables were low and the Romans ate on couches. Weaving was a popular pastime so there would be tapestries and wall hangings in the house. Rich households could even afford to import fine rugs from across the Empire. Glass was also a feature in Roman interior but windows were usually not paned as large panes were hard to make. Doors were usually treated with panels that were carved or in lain with bronze.
Ancient Egypt
Egypt was one of the first great civilisations, known for its immense and grand structures. Wealthy Egyptians had grand homes. The walls were painted or plastered usually with bright colours and hues. The Egyptians are cool because they mapped out their buildings in such a way to adhere to astrological movements meaning on special days if the calendar the temple or monuments were in the right place always. The columns of Egyptian where thicker, more bulbous and often had capitals shaped like bundles of papyrus reeds. Woven mats and tapestries were popular decor. Motifs from the river such as palms, papyrus and reeds were popular symbols used.
Ancient Africa
African Architecture is a very mixed bag and more structurally different and impressive than Hollywood would have you believe. Far beyond the common depictions of primitive buildings, the African nations were among the giants of their time in architecture, no style quite the same as the last but just as breathtaking.
Rwandan Architecture: The Rwandans commonly built of hardened clay with thatched roofs of dried grass or reeds. Mats of woven reeds carpeted the floors of royal abodes. These residences folded about a large public area known as a karubanda and were often so large that they became almost like a maze, connecting different chambers/huts of all kinds of uses be they residential or for other purposes.
Ashanti Architecture: The Ashanti style can be found in present day Ghana. The style incorporates walls of plaster formed of mud and designed with bright paint and buildings with a courtyard at the heart, not unlike another examples on this post. The Ashanti also formed their buildings of the favourite method of wattle and daub.
Nubian Architecture: Nubia, in modern day Ethiopia, was home to the Nubians who were one of the world's most impressive architects at the beginning of the architecture world and probably would be more talked about if it weren't for the Egyptians building monuments only up the road. The Nubians were famous for building the speos, tall tower-like spires carved of stone. The Nubians used a variety of materials and skills to build, for example wattle and daub and mudbrick. The Kingdom of Kush, the people who took over the Nubian Empire was a fan of Egyptian works even if they didn't like them very much. The Kushites began building pyramid-like structures such at the sight of Gebel Barkal
Japanese Interiors
Japenese interior design rests upon 7 principles. Kanso (簡素)- Simplicity, Fukinsei (不均整)- Asymmetry, Shizen (自然)- Natural, Shibumi (渋味) – Simple beauty, Yugen (幽玄)- subtle grace, Datsuzoku (脱俗) – freedom from habitual behaviour, Seijaku (寂)- tranquillity.
Common features of Japanese Interior Design:
Shoji walls: these are the screens you think of when you think of the traditional Japanese homes. They are made of wooden frames, rice paper and used to partition
Tatami: Tatami mats are used within Japanese households to blanket the floors. They were made of rice straw and rush straw, laid down to cushion the floor.
Genkan: The Genkan was a sunken space between the front door and the rest of the house. This area is meant to separate the home from the outside and is where shoes are discarded before entering.
Japanese furniture: often lowest, close to the ground. These include tables and chairs but often tanked are replaced by zabuton, large cushions. Furniture is usually carved of wood in a minimalist design.
Nature: As both the Shinto and Buddhist beliefs are great influences upon architecture, there is a strong presence of nature with the architecture. Wood is used for this reason and natural light is prevalent with in the home. The orientation is meant to reflect the best view of the world.
Islamic World Interior
The Islamic world has one of the most beautiful and impressive interior design styles across the world. Colour and detail are absolute staples in the movement. Windows are usually not paned with glass but covered in ornate lattices known as jali. The jali give ventilation, light and privacy to the home. Islamic Interiors are ornate and colourful, using coloured ceramic tiles. The upper parts of walls and ceilings are usually flat decorated with arabesques (foliate ornamentation), while the lower wall areas were usually tiled. Features such as honeycombed ceilings, horseshoe arches, stalactite-fringed arches and stalactite vaults (Muqarnas) are prevalent among many famous Islamic buildings such as the Alhambra and the Blue Mosque.
Byzantine (330/395–1453 A. D)
The Byzantine Empire or Eastern Roman Empire was where eat met west, leading to a melting pot of different interior designs based on early Christian styles and Persian influences. Mosaics are probably what you think of when you think of the Byzantine Empire. Ivory was also a popular feature in the Interiors, with carved ivory or the use of it in inlay. The use of gold as a decorative feature usually by way of repoussé (decorating metals by hammering in the design from the backside of the metal). Fabrics from Persia, heavily embroidered and intricately woven along with silks from afar a field as China, would also be used to upholster furniture or be used as wall hangings. The Byzantines favoured natural light, usually from the use of copolas.
Indian Interiors
India is of course, the font of all intricate designs. India's history is sectioned into many eras but we will focus on a few to give you an idea of prevalent techniques and tastes.
The Gupta Empire (320 – 650 CE): The Gupta era was a time of stone carving. As impressive as the outside of these buildings are, the Interiors are just as amazing. Gupta era buildings featured many details such as ogee (circular or horseshoe arch), gavaksha/chandrashala (the motif centred these arches), ashlar masonry (built of squared stone blocks) with ceilings of plain, flat slabs of stone.
Delhi Sultanate (1206–1526): Another period of beautifully carved stone. The Delhi sultanate had influence from the Islamic world, with heavy uses of mosaics, brackets, intricate mouldings, columns and and hypostyle halls.
Mughal Empire (1526–1857): Stonework was also important on the Mughal Empire. Intricately carved stonework was seen in the pillars, low relief panels depicting nature images and jalis (marble screens). Stonework was also decorated in a stye known as pietra dura/parchin kari with inscriptions and geometric designs using colored stones to create images. Tilework was also popular during this period. Moasic tiles were cut and fitted together to create larger patters while cuerda seca tiles were coloured tiles outlined with black.
Chinese Interiors
Common features of Chinese Interiors
Use of Colours: Colour in Chinese Interior is usually vibrant and bold. Red and Black are are traditional colours, meant to bring luck, happiness, power, knowledge and stability to the household.
Latticework: Lattices are a staple in Chinese interiors most often seen on shutters, screens, doors of cabinets snf even traditional beds.
Lacquer: Multiple coats of lacquer are applied to furniture or cabinets (now walls) and then carved. The skill is called Diaoqi (雕漆).
Decorative Screens: Screens are used to partition off part of a room. They are usually of carved wood, pained with very intricate murals.
Shrines: Spaces were reserved on the home to honour ancestors, usually consisting of an altar where offerings could be made.
Of course, Chinese Interiors are not all the same through the different eras. While some details and techniques were interchangeable through different dynasties, usually a dynasty had a notable style or deviation. These aren't all the dynasties of course but a few interesting examples.
Song Dynasty (960–1279): The Song Dynasty is known for its stonework. Sculpture was an important part of Song Dynasty interior. It was in this period than brick and stone work became the most used material. The Song Dynasty was also known for its very intricate attention to detail, paintings, and used tiles.
Ming Dynasty(1368–1644): Ceilings were adorned with cloisons usually featuring yellow reed work. The floors would be of flagstones usually of deep tones, mostly black. The Ming Dynasty favoured richly coloured silk hangings, tapestries and furnishings. Furniture was usually carved of darker woods, arrayed in a certain way to bring peace to the dwelling.
Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD): Interior walls were plastered and painted to show important figures and scenes. Lacquer, though it was discovered earlier, came into greater prominence with better skill in this era.
Tang Dynasty (618–907) : The colour palette is restrained, reserved. But the Tang dynasty is not without it's beauty. Earthenware reached it's peak in this era, many homes would display fine examples as well. The Tang dynasty is famous for its upturned eaves, the ceilings supported by timber columns mounted with metal or stone bases. Glazed tiles were popular in this era, either a fixed to the roof or decorating a screen wall.
Romanesque (6th -11th century/12th)
Romanesque Architecture is a span between the end of Roman Empire to the Gothic style. Taking inspiration from the Roman and Byzantine Empires, the Romanesque period incorporates many of the styles. The most common details are carved floral and foliage symbols with the stonework of the Romanesque buildings. Cable mouldings or twisted rope-like carvings would have framed doorways. As per the name, Romansque Interiors relied heavily on its love and admiration for Rome. The Romanesque style uses geometric shapes as statements using curves, circles snf arches. The colours would be clean and warm, focusing on minimal ornamentation.
Gothic Architecture (12th Century - 16th Century)
The Gothic style is what you think of when you think of old European cathedrals and probably one of the beautiful of the styles on this list and one of most recognisable. The Gothic style is a dramatic, opposing sight and one of the easiest to describe. Decoration in this era became more ornate, stonework began to sport carving and modelling in a way it did not before. The ceilings moved away from barreled vaults to quadripartite and sexpartite vaulting. Columns slimmed as other supportive structures were invented. Intricate stained glass windows began their popularity here. In Gothic structures, everything is very symmetrical and even.
Mediaeval (500 AD to 1500)
Interiors of mediaeval homes are not quite as drab as Hollywood likes to make out. Building materials may be hidden by plaster in rich homes, sometimes even painted. Floors were either dirt strewn with rushes or flagstones in larger homes. Stonework was popular, especially around fireplaces. Grand homes would be decorated with intricate woodwork, carved heraldic beasts and wall hangings of fine fabrics.
Renaissance (late 1300s-1600s)
The Renaissance was a period of great artistry and splendor. The revival of old styles injected symmetry and colour into the homes. Frescoes were back. Painted mouldings adorned the ceilings and walls. Furniture became more ornate, fixed with luxurious upholstery and fine carvings. Caryatids (pillars in the shape of women), grotesques, Roman and Greek images were used to spruce up the place. Floors began to become more intricate, with coloured stone and marble. Modelled stucco, sgraffiti arabesques (made by cutting lines through a layer of plaster or stucco to reveal an underlayer), and fine wall painting were used in brilliant combinations in the early part of the 16th century.
Tudor Interior (1485-1603)
The Tudor period is a starkly unique style within England and very recognisable. Windows were fixed with lattice work, usually casement. Stained glass was also in in this period, usually depicting figures and heraldic beasts. Rooms would be panelled with wood or plastered. Walls would be adorned with tapestries or embroidered hangings. Windows and furniture would be furnished with fine fabrics such as brocade. Floors would typically be of wood, sometimes strewn with rush matting mixed with fresh herbs and flowers to freshen the room.
Baroque (1600 to 1750)
The Baroque period was a time for splendor and for splashing the cash. The interior of a baroque room was usually intricate, usually of a light palette, featuring a very high ceiling heavy with detail. Furniture would choke the room, ornately carved and stitched with very high quality fabrics. The rooms would be full of art not limited to just paintings but also sculptures of marble or bronze, large intricate mirrors, moldings along the walls which may be heavily gilded, chandeliers and detailed paneling.
Victorian (1837-1901)
We think of the interiors of Victorian homes as dowdy and dark but that isn't true. The Victorians favoured tapestries, intricate rugs, decorated wallpaper, exquisitely furniture, and surprisingly, bright colour. Dyes were more widely available to people of all stations and the Victorians did not want for colour. Patterns and details were usually nature inspired, usually floral or vines. Walls could also be painted to mimic a building material such as wood or marble and most likely painted in rich tones. The Victorians were suckers for furniture, preferring them grandly carved with fine fabric usually embroidered or buttoned. And they did not believe in minimalism. If you could fit another piece of furniture in a room, it was going in there. Floors were almost eclusively wood laid with the previously mentioned rugs. But the Victorians did enjoy tiled floors but restricted them to entrances. The Victorians were quite in touch with their green thumbs so expect a lot of flowers and greenery inside. with various elaborately decorated patterned rugs. And remember, the Victorians loved to display as much wealth as they could. Every shelf, cabinet, case and ledge would be chocked full of ornaments and antiques.
Edwardian/The Gilded Age/Belle Epoque (1880s-1914)
This period (I've lumped them together for simplicity) began to move away from the deep tones and ornate patterns of the Victorian period. Colour became more neutral. Nature still had a place in design. Stained glass began to become popular, especially on lampshades and light fixtures. Embossing started to gain popularity and tile work began to expand from the entrance halls to other parts of the house. Furniture began to move away from dark wood, some families favouring breathable woods like wicker. The rooms would be less cluttered.
Art Deco (1920s-1930s)
The 1920s was a time of buzz and change. Gone were the refined tastes of the pre-war era and now the wow factor was in. Walls were smoother, buildings were sharper and more jagged, doorways and windows were decorated with reeding and fluting. Pastels were in, as was the heavy use of black and white, along with gold. Mirrors and glass were in, injecting light into rooms. Gold, silver, steel and chrome were used in furnishings and decor. Geometric shapes were a favourite design choice. Again, high quality and bold fabrics were used such as animal skins or colourful velvet. It was all a rejection of the Art Noveau movement, away from nature focusing on the man made.
Modernism (1930 - 1965)
Modernism came after the Art Deco movement. Fuss and feathers were out the door and now, practicality was in. Materials used are shown as they are, wood is not painted, metal is not coated. Bright colours were acceptable but neutral palettes were favoured. Interiors were open and favoured large windows. Furniture was practical, for use rather than the ornamentation, featuring plain details of any and geometric shapes. Away from Art Deco, everything is straight, linear and streamlined.

Tofu Anon:
I will warn you, it’s a * L O N G * read. I spent an afternoon on it and I can proudly say that I enjoyed it.
https://imgur.com/gallery/i49iAiT
Pull up an online wheel spinner and label each of the sections by numbers 1-4. The list is as follows:
A flicker of revelation
A light of preeminence
A blaze of awakening
An inferno of supremacy.
That’ll dictate your spark points (how many powers you can afford and which), how many resources you have, what kind of godhood you possess, and your master abilities if you have inferno of supremacy.
Now, tell me. What kind of Creator are you? Essentially explain your choices
This took me so long but it was so fun!! Thank you for sending this Tofu!! :D <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Modes of Transcendence (3)
Mythic // Architect // Dark Enlightenment // Living Image // The Secret // Godhood // Abstract // Royalty // The One // Almighty Sciences // Outsider // Inheritor
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I chose Architect because of:
"Designing, maintaining, and creating vast worlds, sprawling galaxies and the organization and structures upholding the infinite timelines and multiverses."
How is that not badass? I already feel like I'm creating worlds by writing, and it honestly became my fav out of all the modes, even when others sounded more OP XD
I chose Living Image because of:
"The world is as but a dream, and you the dreamer."
Fun fact about me; I lucid dream, but I'm also a big daydreamer and most of my ideas come from either lucid dreaming or daydreaming! Being so in sync with your creator that you become one with it, sounds like something that'd happen to me.
I chose The One because of:
"You have not been chosen, but you have chosen yourself." // "You have simply become what you are and always have been meant to be."
We stan self-acceptance!!!
Tumblr media
Goals
Conquest // Luxury // Adventure // Battle // Mastery // Benevolence // Sadism // Freedom // Enlightenment // Challenge // Normalcy // Amaranth
Tumblr media
I was hesitating between this one and Normalcy, but the freedom to choose whatever path I pursue of abandon is nice. Honestly, I probably won’t go crazy as this one suggests one would. I’d be a lone wolf amongst the other gods. Instead of hunger for more power, I’d create worlds that I’d love till the end of time, and perhaps I’d even walk amongst my creations at one point.
Tumblr media
Spark powers (16pt.)
I won’t name all of these CAUSE THERE ARE A LOT!! but I’ll say their name, their spark point cost, and the reason why I chose them!
Unbound (0pt)
Subtle (0pt)
I want to live amongst my creations.
Timeless (0pt)
Absolute Condition (4pt)
Gotta say, I chose this for the shapeshifting XDD
Power Architect (4pt)
Should there come a time where I need to protect myself and my worlds, the ability to turn any power into null should come in handy. No wars needed, I am the most powerful being and no one shall go against me and my fate.
Nothing (6pt)
Being able to erase anything but also being able to restore anything I’ve erased? How’s this so OP?
WELP that's 14/16 XD I also didn’t have any master spark points but those looked cool aswell ngl
Tumblr media
Rescources (5pt)
Wealth (1) // Harems (1) // Armies (1) // Collection (1) // Megaworlds (1) // Territory (1) // Alliances (1) // Technology (1) // Sway (1) // Personal Plane (1) // Perfect Vessel (1) // Palace World (1)
I want to create as many worlds so I needed the space (territory). I also wanted Megaworlds and Palace World for the same reason, to create amazing worlds. I chose alliances cause I could use a loyal friend or two in a cosmos as big as this. Personal Plane is for some time off to myself.
Tumblr media
Relations
"Only your Peers may be taken as Foes."
"Take 3 Allies freely, and take another 2 Allies for every Foe you choose."
"If you have taken Alliances as a resource, take 2 Allies from each individual section freely, and take another 3 Allies for every Foe you choose."
Peers (foes):
The Basilisk // Ahndria the Star Emperess // The Branded King // Nihil // Slan // The Breathing Flame // Sadaf, Queen of the Dead // The Thought // The World Dragon // Distortion Entity // Simulacrum // Lady of New Dawn
Tumblr media
I want to fight a dragon. That’s my only reasoning. It’d look SO badass!!
Tumblr media
"Expect a war not of physical strength, but between the real and unreal" SOLD!!
Tumblr media
ALLIES!! (2 in each category + 6 [2 foes = 3+3])
Subordinates: (2+2)
The Emissary // The Advisor // The Attendant // The Computer // The Merchant // The Mentor // The Herald // The Consort
The Advisor would keep my worlds in check for me. What more do I need to explain?
We always need a Mentor in the heroes journey. Someone to guide me through my powers and help me become more powerful. My mentor would learn me things I didn’t know and help me control my powers.
The Herald. Someone strong by my side is always helpful. I feel like we’d start out as a boss-employer relationship but then we’d become trusted buddies. I know that the Herald would always have my back, so I can relax around them.
The Consort, cause being as powerful as this character I created must be lonely. Having a consort by my side would keep me from going insane. Everyone needs a hug now and then.
Followers: (2+3)
Poet-Prince Dkarma // Satheth the Seer // The High Priestess // The Seraph // Wayward Crusader // Empyrean Automaton // Blademaster Julian // Idian the Hermit Mystic // Princess Lily of the Manalim // Serenity the Soul Huntress
Guys, do I really need to explain how it’s useful to have someone like Satheth the Seer? Man would literally tell me if I’d win a war or not. He gives me doctor strange vibes in the way that he can see all possible outcomes and guide me through the best one.
The Seraph because they’re like my second herald but less mortal XD
I feel like it's a mentor arc but I'm the mentor for the Wayward Crusader instead.
Princess Lily of the Manalim sounds like the cutest side story but it also gives me elf vibes, and I can’t resist elf cities and such.
I mainly chose Serenity the Soul Huntress because she has great connections and could "track even the tiniest beetle across six dimensions, let alone a man".
Peers (allies): (2+1)
The Basilisk // Ahndria the Star Emperess // The Branded King // Nihil // Slan // The Breathing Flame // Sadaf, Queen of the Dead // The Thought // The World Dragon // Distortion Entity // Simulacrum // Lady of New Dawn
Freeing Nihil from her eternal bindings seems like a cool side plot AND I get an ally? LESS GOO!!
Ngl, I only chose Simulacrum cause it looked cool XD
Lady of New Dawn seems so cool. I feel like she'd be a good ally, but a morally grey one.
Tumblr media
Organizations (gotta say I had no idea where the points went with this one XD)
"Only a competing Faction may be taken as a Threat."
"Choose one Alliance and one Membership freely, and take one additional Alliance or Membership for every Threat you take."
"If you have taken Alliances as a resource, take two Alliances, one Membership and one Leadership freely, and take either two Alliances or Memberships for every Threat you take."
Personal (Leadership 1(?))
Your Followers // Your Companions // Your Pantheon // Your Organization
"This option allows you to compile a set of companions not listed here, whether from fictional universes, your own imagination, or people from real life."
EYO WHAT? MULTIVERSE? I'm bringing all my anons and the moots with me, and for each of you your fav Genshin chara. LETS GET THIS BREAD!!
Groups (Alliances 2(?))
The Black Moth Organisation // The Walker's Guild // The Sybarite Club // The Slave Rebels // The Houses of Manalim // The Wanderers of Black Mirage
Honestly, the first sounded cool and the second sounded as if it’d come in handy.
Factions (Memberships 1(?))
The Grand Empire // The Versal Council // The Oblivion Compact // The Egregores // The Hive // The Sycophant Duality
Tumblr media
Ventures
"What sorts of sights and wonders will your adventure contain? Choose as many as you'd like."
Ancient Wonders // Cosmic Events // Conflict // Hijinks // Strange Worlds // Forgotten Love // Romance // Journey
I just want my lovely deity OC that I created to see beauty in their existence. These things should keep them from being broody and turning grim.
Tumblr media
WAIT A MINUTE-
MULTIPLA-
-----
Extra stuff:
Tumblr media
- Is this like a rpg or smthn? Or is this from an actual game..? Either way, I had lots of fun. My guy is a bit too strong for me personally but I loved how the others were also way too OP XD I cancelled out in a good way

Hello everyone! Long time no see.
I’m back to this tumblr and I have a couple of “annoucements”. For those who don’t remember me, I’m Troi, brazilian fanfiction writer and roleplayer. This was my personal blog (url used to be redwthluv), but I’ll also be using for my roleplay stuf, such as writing rescources, photoshop resources, musings, inspirations and extra info on my muses and stories. I used to keep my rp things o my sideblog @honeysucklw but I decided to drop everything here on this main blog! I hope that’s not an inconvenience for my non roleplayer mutuals! I’ll still reblog other types of content (mostly about poetry, movies, tv series and fiction in general), so feel free and invited to stay.
Happy holidays and a great new year to y’all!

On Writing: Productivity Tips
November is a good time to talk about productivity, with so many people doing Nano. I’m not one of those people, but I’m still trying to up my word count this month! So I thought I’d list some productivity tips for anyone struggling with Nano or with their writing progress in general during this very busy month.
These tips are specific to writing but could be applied to schoolwork or work-work or anything else!
Tumblr media
Do writing sprints.  Set a timer, turn off all distractions (or turn on some music if that’s what works for you) and write. Don’t backspace, don’t edit anything, don’t even think. You’ll be surprised how much you can get done in 30, 20 or even 15 minutes if you’re focused. I usually reach my daily 1k word goals by doing this.
Find some writing buddies. Accountability is a powerful thing. Sprinting with other writers is super helpful to your productivity. And talking with them about each other’s projects is a fantastic way to keep yourself motivated.
Switch fonts while you write.  Change your font style as you’re writing. Changing how the document looks makes it seem fresher and will help you feel less lethargic about working on it. You’ve probably heard of the Comic Sans trick; it really works! I’ve recently started doing it myself.
Switch fonts while you edit.  This font change trick can especially be used for editing and rewrites. Looking at the text with a different font will really help you see the words/prose you’ve written from a fresh perspective. Some people also print their drafts out to edit them.
Write with music.  Not everyone can write with music, but if you haven’t tried it, you should. Music without lyrics is usually better; Spotify and YouTube have plenty of film/video game soundtracks that are great for writing. Video game soundtracks are especially good; the tracks are designed to play on a loop to suit a particular setting or mood. If you find writing with music distracting, listening to a playlist dedicated to your story or characters outside of your writing time can still help you.
Keep a list of daily/weekly/monthly goals. Do you want your outline done by the end of the month? How many words do you want to have written? What about this week? I like to plan things weekly, before breaking up the tasks into smaller, daily chunks. I do this at the end of every day; if I didn’t finish something, I transfer it to the next day and cross things off my weekly list as I get them done. Seeing things written out in front of you can help keep your head clear. And crossing out finished tasks is extremely satisfying.
Note: I also like to break up my weekly lists by category, such as: writeblr tasks, real life tasks (like buying new shoes/making appointments), and categories for each of the wips I’m working on.
Use breaks/reward systems.  Don’t be afraid to take breaks and recharge when you reach certain milestones/work for a certain amount of time. Have a snack or make coffee or go and walk around for five minutes. It helps get you back into the working mindset. Rewards can be snacks, watching a video, cuddling your pet, there’s tons of choices. (If you want to be a workaholic, reward yourself with more work - take a break from writing to make a playlist, an edit or watch a video on writing).
Switch projects (but not too much).  If you find yourself stuck on one project (there are a ton of reasons this can happen), you shouldn’t feel guilty for switching projects. That said, you shouldn’t rely on this too much. One finished draft is better than three half-written drafts. If you want to switch projects, maybe work on the outline for a second project, or work on character building or worldbuilding. Switching projects doesn’t necessarily mean writing one then writing the other. Using this trick is pointless if you use it as an excuse to avoid finishing anything.
Accept that it’s hard.  Trying to write a novel isn’t easy. You should enjoy writing; otherwise why are you doing it? But you should also accept that it will be difficult, and there will be times when you struggle. And that’s fine; it’s part of the process. When you see a finished novel on a shelf, you don’t see all the times the author wanted to give up, or hated a sentence, or had too much going on at school or work to dedicate real time to their book. But every writer has these struggles, and pretending otherwise only leads to disappointment. If they can do it, so can you!
