Made to watch

Another thing he did know was six people all around the same age as him, he didn’t know these people in real life but in his head he watched them relive their deaths over and over again.

There was a boy with black hair who stood unable to protect himself as he was killed then there was a brown haired boy who got eaten limb by limb. There was a ginger haired girl who got lit on fire and a dark skinned boy who screamed for help every time another part of him broke. There was a kid who kept screaming ‘georgie’ and a bigger kid who cried the whole way through.

The dream would last for six nights each night being the focus of a different kid, it would start off with a scene from their normal life sometimes it would be set in a school or in the comfort of home. That part didn’t really matter. Then Stanley would wake up for a second back in the hospital before almost immediately falling back to sleep, that’s when it turned into a nightmare.

It was like he was a puppet on strings and the puppeteer was forcing him to watch, he was stuck in place and he couldn’t open his mouth or close his eyes. All he could do was watch as one of the kids came to their deaths. Right as they fell victim to the slaughter he would wake up and it’d be morning already.

A Raven would fly past the hospital windows and Stanley would tried not throw up from the memory of what he’d been forced to watch.

Of course replacing the blood in her veins wouldn't be enough to convince Carol that she was Kree. They'd had to have replaced her organs as well.

At first, Carol had been-

Well.

She wouldn't say she was… okay with the blood in her veins. Not by a long shot. She had settled for handling it. She'd shoved through the disgust and helplessness with the knowledge that blood cells died and regenerated as time went on, and that by the time she had sent Yon-Rogg back to Hala, most of his blood had washed into hers.

But it wasn't until a memory of a science class she'd taken in high school had hit her, violently, in the dead of the night, that she had realised that humans had one heart, and she had two.

Of course replacing the blood in her veins wouldn't be enough to convince Carol that she was Kree. They'd have to have replaced her organs as well.

The horror was nauseating. There was no possibility that could handle that.

They'd cut open her chest, removed heart and stomach and lungs and intestines and things she really did not want to think about, and neatly stitched her up in ways that were wrong. The ruins of the trust she'd held shattered further, sharpening and digging into the furthest corners of her mind. How many other parts of her had been altered for nothing more than a lie?

Carol lifted her shirt, only slightly, and stared at the night shadowed skin of her chest. Completely scarless. She pushed it back down, slowly, and forced herself to breathe. The familiar, double heartbeats were sickening. She couldn't remember which side it was supposed to be from.

Thud. Thud. Left, right. Two halves of one whole, something she couldn't separate, couldn't distinguish. She'd never remember what it would feel like to only have one.

She keeled over and threw up.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome! Hiya! I’ve mainly lurked in the whump community for a while, across several different blogs. I was a Whumptober completionist in 2021 on an old blog, but I haven’t completed it since! Miss Fisher's Whumptober Challenge is back for 2023!

What is Whumptober?

Whumptober is a month-long creative fandom challenge consisting of 31 themes and prompts. “Whump” means a work in which characters are put in emotionally and/or physically painful situations, and usually these works can be categorized as hurt/comfort.

How does this work?

If this sounds like your thing, simply go to this spreadsheet, write your name behind one of the prompts, and create something for it (to be posted at any point in October and the first week of November; it doesn’t have to be up on the actual day your prompt was assigned to). Each prompt can be claimed by multiple people and you can create something for as many of them as you want.

Please tag your works “MFMMwhumptober” and if you post them on AO3, you can also add them to this collection.

Even if whump isn’t for you, we’ve modified the event so you can still participate! We’ve had several writers bend the rules and write fluffy or smutty works for this challenge. Just make sure to tag your works appropriately and specify whether they contain comfort elements or are pure angst. Our main goal is to get you to write so all contributions are welcome!

This is the original announcement post and here is the official collection, which you can also add your entries to as long as they somewhat fit the overall theme of the original challenge.

For 2019, 2020 and 2021, immediately following Whumptober, I held Fluffember. Fluffember was a list of fluffy prompts to inspire fic and art that was kind, caring and family time for the fandom (in order to recover from Whumptober - the boys definitely need a holiday).

It didn't happen in 2022 as there were plenty of other fluffy prompt challenges going around. The question now is, would anyone be interested in Fluffember 2023?
