Meet The New Mods

Thank you very much for the warm welcome! To begin we’d like to say a very big thank you to mods Pan and Claire, as well as Jo, Marie and Kat, for their hard work in creating and continuing the event for six years — especially with how big the community has become! We have a momentous job ahead of us when it comes to modding the community and running the event as well as they did, but we are determined and up for the challenge.

I’ve participated in Whumptober for a few years, although I never finished. I’m a writer who can’t write fluff to save my life; if a character isn’t going through some kind of trauma in canon I’ll make it happen in fanfic. I live with an old blind mini poodle and intense imposter syndrome. I used to mod communities on Livejournal (fandom OLD) and I’m really excited to be a part of the new mod team. Hello everyone! Those in the Whumptober discord may know me as being a mod there since last year, but if not, then hi! I have been a completionist for Whumptober every year since 2019, and it’s safe to say that the event quickly became one of my favourite times of year. Hiya! I’ve mainly lurked in the whump community for a while, across several different blogs. I was a Whumptober completionist in 2021 on an old blog, but I haven’t completed it since! I mainly write OC whump, with more focus on emotional suffering compared to the physical elements. Outside of whump, I volunteer and run a wildlife rehabilitation unit, work in retail and keep the ADHD goblin in my head happy by cycling through an endless list of other hobbies like graphic design, wildlife photography and traveling for gigs. I’m really looking forward to helping put together Whumptober this year and being a part of it!

Hello hello, I'm Mod Voli and I should really be dealing with finals right now but I have free will dammit let me look at and giggle at hornyposts!!!!!

I'm one of the new mods and have so far had an absolutely wonderful time being dealt significant psychic damage by the inbox and I would not have it any other way <3 You can probably recognize a post of mine if it's a screenshot that's just a liiiittle bit oversaturated (the ReShade heart wants what it wants what can I say) or has a very stupidly stretched out photo of Gale (you'll see what I mean soon :)

On any given day you can probably find me frothing at the mouth over pretty fantasy elves or whatever problematic fictional man has overtaken my brain at that moment. Or women. usually women.

Current bg3 faves are Gortash, Jaheira, Orin, Astarion, Shadowheart, jesus there's too many. Shaking my fist like an old man yelling at cloud at every submission I've seen dunking on the handsome young man with a quick easy smile. I'll get you (lie)

Her skin crawled; an almost-touch slid down her spine, prickling between her shoulders. The wind ran its claws through her hair. A strange pressure stole the air from her lungs. And Paulina was gone.

Raising Hell

Summary:

Clockwork had made a real effort to be more upfront with Danny, which was good. He appreciated it, he really did! It was just hard, sometimes, to be sure how much they were hiding and whether they meant to or not. For instance: Danny would have really, really liked a little warning about the demons. OR A seemingly-routine errand for Clockwork puts Danny in over his head when he finds an alternate Amity Park plagued by demons instead of ghosts.

Summary:

What came before seemed so tiny, sometimes. So normal. A scuff, a bitten-off swear, the sound of a rubber boot planting firmly on metal—and a click. The margins of his notebooks were all crowded with clumsy Russian for the International Space Station, because he’d work there one day for sure, he said. Until he wouldn’t, because he couldn’t. Because he was dead. A month after the funeral, they saw Danny again.

Your favorite part of big bangs?

i've said before how i love the beginning of the bang, when everyone stumbles in and looks for their friends... but i also love the middle of it, when we get to release the claiming document and everyone is all over it and ooh-ing and aww-ing over the ideas! it's such a lovely atmosphere and, as a writer myself, it also shows you the part you usually don't see - the excitement someone else gets out of your fic (idea)!

How long have you been into dc/batfam?

funnily enough, it will also be five years in summer! i really went down the rabbit hole and stayed there :D

Do you regret getting into batfam/dc?

i mean, sometimes??? like all good hyperfixations, this has consumed too much of my time and energy >:(

but I've met a ton of lovely people in the fandom! some of my best friends I've met here, and i wouldn't trade them for the world (not even when dc releases another sucky batman comic) <3

What's a storyline you would love to see adapted for a movie, tv show, or something else?

you know what. i ranted about it on the weekend to a friend, so i'm going to say it: literally any storyline with a batman villain that is not the joker. there, i said it.

Who is your favorite batfam member? Why?

this is maybe an out-there answer, but i love carrie kelley and i wish we had more of her... because she's so cool and I think she has a lot of unused potential :0

Which batfam member do you think you’d get along/be good friends with?

i think i could get along with dick well! he's smart, capable, likes to micro-manage, and would fucking love my kpop serotonin spotify playlist.

Do you have any favorite fanworks?

oh I've not been consuming much batfam fics lately (i have another hyperfixation burning at higher flame rn), but let me recommend the one i am reading:

@eventualtoast has an ongoing no lazarus pit au series that is absolutely fantastic! it's a canon rewrite that imagines jason coming back without being put in the lazarus pit.

toast pays so much attention to how the same thing can differently affect people and relationships, and i personally love the dual perspectives from bruce and jason on the same events throughout the series!

please heed the content warnings (graphic depictions of violence, permanent injuries/traumatic brain injury, discussions of ableism), but it's at 73k and i know for a fact they have more planned!!

Do you know what you want to do for this year's big bang, if you're participating as a writer/artist?

I might participate as a beta this year because my next semester in college looks like it will be somewhat busy! also, this way I can read some of the fics beforehand :D
