Freddie rushes to your room as you're in the middle of a stream, playing JackBox with Tommy, Ranboo, Quackity, Wilbur, and BadBoyHalo. He throws something at you, and it hits the back of your head, and lands on the floor next to you.
"What the fuck?-" You question, quickly turning around as your friends laugh, having seen Freddie throw the pillow-like object at you over the Discord call.
Freddie politely smiles from the doorway, hands behind his back. You look down, seeing the object he threw at you next to your chair. You pick it up with a smile, and look back up at him.
"Why?" You ask with a little chuckle, turning around to show your friends and chat what he threw at you. A Minecraft glow squid plushie. It was the size of your head times two.
Freddie shrugs, "Cause I love you"
"EWWWW" Tommy shouts through your headphones, using a bass booster. You quickly throw the headphones off, shouting a "Shut up, Tommy!" through your mic.
You were waiting for the time for verse creation on Verse City to end, so thankfully your boyfriend came in at a good time. You notice the little plastic bits on the squid, and you look back to Freddie.
"Wait, does it glow in the dark?" You ask him. He returns a silent nod, smile still on his face as he pulls a beanbag chair up next to yours.
He sits down, waving to chat as the game begins. "Who are you up against?"
The versus teams show up on screen for a moment, showing that you were up against Quackity.
"Good luck to me" You giggle, "Quackity is the rap god." You slip your headphones back on, listening to Alex as he boasts about being a better rap god than Eminem.
Tommy speaks up with a laugh, "Careful, Quackity, they're meaner than you think"
"Tommy! Dude! Don't let him know my secret moves"
After a few hours, your streams end, and Freddie had left a while ago to make dinner. You walk into the kitchen, seeing a few plastic bags sitting on the counter. Freddie smiles when he sees you, and turns the stove down some, preparing to walk away from the food for a moment.
You heald the glow squid in your arms, already attached to it.
"You like your gift?" He asks, which you return a nod to.
"Well good, cause I have more where that came from" He awkwardly smiles, looking over at the bags. "Just open them, it's nothing bad, I swear!"
"Freddie-" Your smile falters a bit, "You don't have to spend money on gifts for me"
"Then good thing I took all the price tags off" He smiles warmly, lightly pushing you to the counter.
"Dude, I told you I feel bad when you buy me shit, especially stuff I don't need"
"Y/n, you need half of this stuff, you just refuse to spend your money out of fear" He rebuttals, crossing his arms. "Half of this you'd been eyeing in the store anyways"
You sigh, setting the squid on a barstool, trying to stall longer so you wouldn't have to open the bags.
"Y/n/n!"
"I'm going, I'm going! He needs somewhere to sit!"
Freddie leans against the counter, watching as you open the first of two bags.
In the first was a few Lego flower sets, and you quickly look at him. "Freddie."
He giggles, backing away a bit so you can't throw the plushie at him. You open the second, seeing a STEAM gift card, a t-shirt you wanted a couple weeks ago, a few CD's, and some snacks that you loved.
"Freddie" You frown, "I feel bad, you didn't have to buy this stuff for me"
Freddie wraps you in a hug, "I'm proving my love, darling"
"I know you love me, you don't have to prove it" You reply, hiding your face in the crook of his neck, "I don't need gifts from you"
"It's a... token of my appreciation then" He shrugs
"Nope"
"What do I have to do for you to accept it then?"
You shrug.
"You're making this difficult" He chuckles.
You shrug again, your lips curling into an unbeatable smile.
"I can feel you smiling, y/n/n"
"Shut up"
"I love you"

Flashback-- 2 months ago
You moved the gear into park and reached for your camera bag haphazardly thrown in the backseat. You were so excited to walk around the hidden coast as part of your solo travels. You looked around the area and noticed that it was indeed a secluded place, judging by the lack of people milling around. There were a couple of local restaurants attached into the residents’ houses. And a lone bus stop can be seen just along the edge of the parking bay.
It was late in the afternoon and it was the perfect time to capture some photos. You marveled at the pink sand and long stretch of beach. Nobody was swimming, and only a handful of people were scattered along the beach. A couple were laid on a blanket on one area, and a man was sitting atop some rocks with his headphones on. You walked farther ahead where you won’t disturb the other nature spectators and filmed a couple of videos and photos for your travel vlog. The peaceful vibe also stimulated your brain and it pushed you to record some prose on your phone. Nothing can spark creativity better than nature, and sadness, you suppose.
After the sun has set, your stomach began growling. You only ate brunch and you realized it was not good to be this hungry if you were planning to eat lots of seafood for dinner. You traced back your steps towards the local businesses and chose a quaint restaurant with a rustic theme. The locals were friendly and one of the residents hanging out even sat beside your table to chat with you. After a comfortable pause, while the aged woman let you eat your meal, you heard her think out loud, “Oh poor dear, there are no more buses that come at this hour. He must have missed his ride. The next bus will arrive tomorrow morning.”
You followed her gaze and you saw the man wearing headphones earlier sitting under the bus shed, checking his watch and looking back and forth the road. Suddenly, the friendly woman stood up, presumably to inform the man of his mishap.
You finished your meal and was paying for it when the old woman returned, the man with headphones in tow. He was very tall and he was wearing a cap and a mask. He looked awkward and a bit sheepish, he must have realized his mistake already. “Oh hey dear, thank goodness you are still here. You mentioned that you were going back to the city tonight, correct? Would you be so kind to give this man a ride on your way?” Then the woman ushered closer to you and stage-whispered, “It’s fine, he’s a jolly nice man, and I made sure he is not dangerous.” Then in a normal volume of voice, “He’s a tourist too and he had some miscommunications back at the station. But he is in dire need to get back tonight, you understand, don’t you sweetie?” She hugged you close and offered the both of you a sweet smile.
The man rubbed the back of his neck and he looked completely embarrassed. You were more than happy to offer your help but you can’t say you feel too confident riding with a stranger for a 5-hour drive back to the city.
“I’m really really sorry to impose, but I have an appointment early in the morning and I won’t be able to make it in time even if my… friend drives down here at this hour.” You noticed that his voice was deep and he kept his face lowered which did nothing to ease your worries of driving with a stranger.
“Oh sweetie, you need to loosen up a bit. Maybe show a bit of your face to gain this lady’s trust. No one wants to drive with a faceless man.”
The man hesitatingly removed his cap and mask, then you gasped softly. You looked around to make sure no one else was around, or no one else had seen. No way. Maybe he just looks like him. But then, why hide? “That’s fine, you can put the mask back on.” You forced a laugh then addressed the old woman, “Better to be safe, right? With the virus and all.” You cleared your throat, and the man looked a little bit hesitant and more wary of you as he put on his mask.
“We’ll get going now, ma’am. Thank you so much for a delightful chat. I hope to get back soon.” You gathered your things and led the man to your car. Before you opened your door, you faced him and asked, “Best to get this out of the way first. My name is Jane, and I am an allied health professional. I live in New South Wales, and here’s my identification.” You showed him your drivers’ license. “Now, are you perhaps, a celebrity?” You stared him down- well, up, since he’s  a lot taller. And your tone is reminiscent of a teacher scolding a child. But you just couldn’t help yourself. He must have felt the same way, because he answered with a small voice, “Yeah.” With his head still bowed down. You took a deep calming breath before continuing, “And you think it safe to travel in the suburbs of Australia, by yourself, without transportation??” You knew you sounded accusatory, considering you were talking to a stranger, but you just couldn’t believe how careless and thoughtless and dangerous the whole situation was. He squared up his shoulders a bit here and defended, “Well, I thought it was safe since it won’t be crowded in this particular locaion, and I did have a ticket back. I just…” he scratched his head and sighed.
A cold breeze fluttered your coat open, and you shivered. “Maybe, we should continue this inside.” He suggested, eyeing your shivering frame. You conceded, and both of you got comfortable inside your vehicle. You removed your coat, and he finally removed his cap and mask and ruffled his hair. You still couldn’t believe your eyes, but there was no mistaking it.
When you didn’t move, he looked at you and smiled, flashing his pretty dimples (curse him), and extended his hand, “Forgive me for forgetting my manners. Pleased to meet you, I’m Kim Namjoon.”
You gulped and shook his hand. You couldn’t say anything, so you just nodded and completed your pre-driving routine. You completely forgot that your phone automatically connects to your speakers and RM’s Seoul started playing. You froze and accidentally stepped on the brake. “Fuck.” You heard him snort and then laugh. “Sorry about that,” you muttered, referring to your embarrassing driving skills. Then he asked with dimples flashing, “So, you’re an Army huh?” You glared at him for a second then focused on driving.
“Well, the songs are good, can you blame me?” Then he chuckled and freakin rapped along. Your heart beat so fast because you couldn’t believe Kim Namjoon is rapping along Seoul while he is in the passenger seat of your car. Fucking surreal.
After a few minutes of silence, with just your playlist in the background, you told him, “You can sleep if you want, you did mention you still have a schedule in the morning.” You glanced at him and he was wearing an incredulous look. You paused, oh yeah. It would be more foolish to sleep in a stranger’s car. “Or not. Forgot about me being a stranger thing. And worse, a fan!” You chuckled. “No, it’s not that. I just don’t think it’s polite to sleep while you are driving for me. The least I could do is accompany you.” You smiled softly. You’re not even surprised he is that thoughtful. “Also,” he cleared his throat, “I don’t actually have a schedule. I just.. didn’t want my manager to scold me. I was about to call him using the phone in the restaurant, but the woman suddenly asked you to drive me. And well, I’d pick riding with a pretty girl than be scolded by the company any day.”
Your jaw dropped, and the man had the nerve to laugh. “Oh gosh, are you sure this isn’t a reality show, like- prank an army episode, oh god, y’all are not stalking me right?? How did you even know I was an army?? I was discreet!” And that just made him laugh harder.
“Relax. It’s definitely not a reality show. It is reality though.” A short pause, then, “Your music taste is so… varied.” And for some reason, that made you feel proud. Your playlist ranged from country music, to R&B, to anime OSTs, to Eminem, Barbra Streisand, and of course BTS.
After a couple hours of driving, your legs were feeling numb already. On your way to the coast, you had multiple rests since you were not in any hurry. But you were still a new driver and your legs are not accustomed to long drives. “Uhm, since you’re not chasing a schedule, is it okay if we stop over for a moment? My leg is killing me.” He instantly agreed, “Of course, Jane. Anything you need. Are there restaurants somewhere we can stop over? Do you want to eat? My treat!” You smiled. “Don’t be silly. You’re my guest and not everybody can do a favor for the Kim Namjoon so I’m treating you.  I need something to brag about to my grandkids.”
Silence. “Oh. You’re married?” You laughed at that. “I wish. But, nope.” You took a deep disappointed breath. “What’s with the reaction? You’re still young?” He asked.
You parked the car, and faced him, “Well, you know how we have these certain expectations in our lives? Not other people’s expectations for us or society’s standards- just, a vision of how our life should be like.” You didn’t know what made you share your deepest disappointments in life with this man, but you thought, It’s not like I’m ever gonna meet him again anyway. I might even get a helpful advice or two from THE Kim Namjoon. You faced forward then, and played with your fingers as you continued. “I feel like nothing I envisioned for my life, back when I was just a youthful dreamer, ever came true. I didn’t live up to the expectations of 12-year-old me. And it bothers me everyday. As I get older, time feels so much faster and missing chances get all the more scarier and riskier.” There was a short silence as you both digested the sudden serious conversation. You didn’t want to make him feel more awkward so you showed him a bright smile and unlocked the door. “That was what the reaction for.” Then you laughed as you exited your door.
You noticed him looking out his window, at the queue for the restaurants. You walked around his side of the door and knocked on his window. “Maybe it’s better for me to just buy our food and eat in the car?” He looked worried but grateful at the same time. “I think that would be the best. Sorry.” He really looked apologetic. But you completely understand. “It’s fine, honest. Be sure to lock the doors then, and keep the windows closed. Do you know how to start the car so you can turn on the heater?” He rolled his eyes and held out his hand for your keys. “Sucks that my reputation precedes me. But yeah, I can do that much.” You started to hand him the keys and bit your lip. You were honestly worried he will wreck your car. You sighed, “Please. Don’t break my car.” Before turning and walking away, chuckling at his offended face.

I NEVER FINISHED MY STORY OMG. ok so i left off at being too proud to tell my friend she was right and kpop fucked hard. the difference between u and me is that i’m too good of a liar. too good. i kept up the “i hate kpop it’s cringe” facade for ALMOST TWO WHOLE YEARS, I SHIT YOU NOT. why? bc my dumb ass, extra ass, dramatic ass self thought “ok if i’m gonna have to deal with the embarrassment of admitting i’m wrong, i better do it in such an extra ass way it’ll knock ur socks off so hard that YOULL be the one embarrassed not me.” the original plan was to learn the entire choreography to bts dope, bc it’s the song that she told me to listen to and inevitably the song that got me into them, but later switched to bts fire bc i saw too many of those “choreo matches w any song” videos, and then her birthday party came up. and here’s the real kicker. her birthday is April Motherfuckin Fools. so it would be So Perfect for me to reveal my kpopism as a birthday present And a april fools prank in one. so i was Set on the Reveal being on april 1st, but the day rolls around and god that choreo is so fucking hard and i am Not a dancer. never have been. so i abandon that and go ykno what… i’ll do it Next Year. BC MY BITCHASS WAS LIKE NO THE MOMENT IS TOO PERFECT TO DO IT ON A NORMAL ASS DAY ITS GONNA BE ON APRIL FOOLS ON HER GODDAMN BIRTHDAY OR NOT AT ALL. a year rolls by, i’ve told most of our friends except her and they’re all in on it, i’d made so many subtle kpop references to her without her realising they were fully intentional and had too many scares where she almost figured me out but i lied my way out of it, and i’d given up on showing off with choreography bc i couldn’t make that shit look good. i’m not a dancer. i am, however, a rapper, and a damn good one, so i inhaled the agust d mixtape and decided i’d just rap the eminem of kpop’s anthem at her face. in korean. and change the lyrics at the end (if u haven’t listened to agust d, the bridge repeats “i’m sorry” a lot) to “i’m sorry i kept this from u for so long” and “i’m sorry i actually ult got7 not bts” (this was like the april after skz debuted ok i was holding onto got7 for dear life knowing full well skz we’re going to convert me smh) and the best part? she never saw it coming. her official present was a cd with a bunch of kpop on it but she thought it was just a personalised mixtape for her so i told her to play the first song out loud and she knew the song Instantly. it has a long intro so she was like “i guess u did listen when i recommended u this song!! i knew you’d like it since u like rap so much!!” and then i started rapping and i shit u not. she started SCREAMING. like the initial reaction was her jaw dropping and then instinctively covering her mouth but when i kept going and she realised i wasn’t fucking around she just fucking screamed like a banshee. at the end during the sorry bit i threw off my jacket to reveal a got7 shirt on the inside and she fell off her chair and started rolling around on the floor. needless to say it was every bit as satisfying as i thought it’d be LMAOOOO afterwards her ass was like “I CANT BELIEVE U HID THIS FROM ME FOR OVER A YEAR” and when i tried to explain my ego couldn’t take the “i told u so” she was like “you know i wouldn’t have made fun of you for it right? i would just be glad you’re not hating on my boys anymore” so basically i’m a big dramatic fool and she was always too good for me.
don’t mind the weird spaces here my ipad is being all fucky wucky w me rn. damn sad to hear ur sideblog experience didn’t go so well, i’d have shown u the cool side of the fandom if i knew 😤😤 leading u thru the cursed halls of kpop stan tumblr like a sketchy tour guide that’s actually 3 small raccoons stacked on top of each other like a trench coat, like “over here we have the fanfic writers that honestly need to publish a book, over here we have the gif makers that are responsible for my entire camera roll, if we take a quick swerve past the death threat anons and the twt fanwar screenshots - mind ur feet bub the 14 year olds were tryna make a grab for ur ankles - ah here’s the holy grail of shitposts, you might be here for hours, to the right we have the weird aussie side of the fandom that projects our childhoods onto chanlix but also all the members as we decide what their life in australia would’ve been like, and down there is a secret trapdoor to the blogs w endless random headcanons that will make you laugh, cry or blush depending on if the author woke up and decided to choose violence today. enjoy your Stay!” but then again i’m not so active on tumblr anymore (ngl you’ve become the highlight of my tumblr experience these days, interaction wise,) so maybe all my Local Hotspots are inactive now. i know a bunch of them are, it’s sad. “i don’t fw stan twitter for the same reason i don’t hang out in meth dens” oop. guess i’m a meth addict. no but i get u i rly do, it’s a hellhole out there, but the fact that things get shared and spread a lot easier than on tumblr and how short most things have to be (therefor keeping up w my adhd attention span without having to resort to the mental torture that is tiktok, with the added bonus of not always needing headphones.) that i just. couldn’t leave if i tried. maybe i should try being active on tumblr again but it’s a dying site in comparison.
“their music doesn’t consistently hit for me as much as skz” i’m sorry we can’t be friends anymore. what. what. you don’t dramama ramama ramama hey? you don’t feel a little jealousyyyyyy, naega anin? you don’t shoot out, shoot out, shoot out, or aremdaeun love killa love killa? you can’t be your hero du du du du du du du du du dududu? u disappoint me. literally like everyone i know who likes skz music likes mx music like it’s a rite of Passage. they’re kindred spirits, monsta x music is like skz’s music’s cool but mildly heterosexual older brother. neither of them know what a bad song is it runs in the family. and both their music runs in my VEINS. whenever i describe my music taste they’re always the first two that come to mind, skz being my number 1 bc they are my best boys but mx bc of the Flavour. pls listen to the entire the code album then get back to me 😤🙌 ok but fr ur so right they are 7 of the finest men i ever seen (yes i say 7 bc i’m including wonho cause he deserved better and i’ll die on my ot7 bullshit.) like don’t get me started on them either LOL i LITERALLY downloaded that one insta video of changkyun working out his back n arm muscles w his tattoo showing bc i needed that shit saved for Science. they could do Anything w me like frfr. yes vixx is the bdsm contract group i’m telling ya they wildin. or at least they were. it’s been years since their last comeback idk what they’re doing anymore tbh. and yeah that makes sense, savouring the hyperfixation i feel it, but also i’m so attached to skz that i never let it die. like i hyperfixate on other things and other groups but i will Always go back to skz cause they’re my homeboys. hell, they’re my home. being a predebut stay i’ve spent more time w skz than most of my actual family members at this point. but that’s just me you do u boo xx just know that if ur anything like me ur never letting go once skz it’s been my longest lasting fixation cause they hit like Nothing Else Do. ik i’ve already said that but i cannot stress it enough. they’re really special. i’m gonna stop here before i get all sappy and emotional bc i really love those boys so fucking much and i don’t drop the L bomb often. SIDE NOTE I WOULD LIKE TO SEE UR LIST OF GROUPS RANKED BY THORSt. i need to judge ur Taste. and omg cat&dog is such a guilty pleasure song bc the lyrics make me cringe so much bc while pet play can be fun they be doing it in more of an “i’m an innocent soft dogboy uwu” kinda way that just Does Not Sit Right with me. it comes back to the objectifying of asians that asians themselves don’t help in industries like these and maybe i’m looking too far into it when rly it is just wholesome n cute or maybe they are into some pet play shit idk idc i will bop to the song regardless but i will not acknowledge the lyrics nope.
YOURE RIGHT THO SKZ’S OPENNESS IS IN FACT, A BIG DEAL, i’ll grab them for u if u want but i found these twt threads of skz supporting the lgbt community and i just felt a special kind of happiness man like sure the delusional part of me likes going “haha they’re gay” bc my brain likes to imagine them as my polycule of mlm boyfriends bc sometimes thats what gives me the serotonin to get me thru the day ok don’t judge but also bc it’s nice knowing that yes i’ll never know them personally, but at least i can support them knowing they’d respect my gender identity and my pronouns, they’d respect who i choose to love, and that’s already more than the general public can say so shit, it is special! it’s special that they don’t treat being cishet like the norm - they constantly remove gender from their songs and speech entirely, they don’t assume all stays are female anymore, we don’t talk abt the babygirls incident cause we got babystays in the end outta that ok, and it’s just. so refreshing and important to me bc i can’t get that anywhere else!! like my semi ults are the boyz and while i love them very much and there’s no way all 11 of them are straight i refuse, i do get just a little bit sad whenever they she/her their fandom by default and call them their girlfriends n shit even tho i do still identify as a girl, i’m also genderfluid/nonbinary/transmasc, and i have a very love/hate relationship w my womanhood and rarely use she/her pronouns, cause it’s like, do you not see me? see us? the ones who aren’t cishet women? i mean i know kevin does bc he congratulated a fan who came out as nb but it’s just not the same as the openness we get w skz. like how do i trust cishets i could be supporting them as a queer person when in reality they’d call me a slur. what would i know, behind the screen? so it’s so good that skz go the extra mile to make it a safe space for everyone. this is already long enough i will reply to the second half of that ask in another message… tomorrow cause it’s 1am and i’m tired gn -felix bi anon
I'mma have to start putting these under a readmore so that i don't absolutely make everything who is still following me for some reason go totally fucking insane 😂
NDJDHWJJAHFNAKBSJSBFBHHDBDNAJD YOU HAVE NO IDEA THE FACES I WAS MAKING READING THIS, I WAS FUCKING CACKLING AND GASPING EVERY OTHER SENTENCE SO HARD THAT I SCARED THE CATS NDJWHSHSB the fact that you went "oh you want me to get into kpop? Give me a hot minute, and I'll give you a whole ass private concert for free" biduehsjdbd biiiiiiiiiiitch you're a fucking ICON, I stg I could NEVER 😂 (and not just because I couldn't find a tune if you gave me a printed set of Google maps directions and that I embody the steriotype that white people can't dance, like my sister kept sensing me tiktoks of the whole "dance like a white girl" trend going lmfao look it's you and eventually I was like "sis please this trend has me feeling like being white is a disability and these mothafuckers are being ableist 😭 also I could NEVER be that on beat so yall ain't even doin it right 😭😭😭😭"). Tbh if I told one of my friends (lol what friends, i got jokes) to get into Skz and they showed up at my bday and performed the entirety of I Got It I would simply shower them in money and go "aight everyone else go home, you are no longer needed, you are being laid off, your position has been eliminated, we're downsizing, the company is moving up and you're moving out, you are not qualified for this role any longer, best of luck with future endeavors" 😊
I think part of the reason I can't deal w Twitter is the exact reason I refuse to leave tumblr, in that I've been on tumblr since 2006 and twt since 2008, and tumblr literally has not changed at all, not even a little, whereas going from the early days of twt where there were no corporate sponsorships or ads and you had to manually copy and paste someone's tweet and @ them to retweet it, to how it is now, like 90% ads and showing me shit from the timelines of people I don't even fuckin follow n whatnot, it's just not enjoyable. Idk how anyone finds anything on twt, it confuses and frustrates me because I am old and have not adapted well to technology changing 😂 But arguably, the skz fanbase doesn't want me on skztwt anyways so like it works for both of us lmfaooo. I am old and cringey, and also still think of twt as stream of consciousness whereas tumblr is your teenage bedroom where you can decorate the walls with anything that interests you. I do really love the nonsensical kpoptwt shitposts tho fhshsbdjjss like it is a very specific flavor of mental instability that I enjoy immensely 😂 OH and also I initially misread part of that and thought you were saying you actually irl do meth and I was like 😳 WHAT DO I SAY TO THAT. HOW DO I HANDLE THIS. Like how do I express like "I wasn't being judgy of people who use substances cause I've been there but I was just being insensitive 😳" And then went back and reread it and was like WHEW, IM JUST AN ILLITERATE FOOL 😂😂😂😂 ejeywhdhrhjwbfbdjshdhdhd I spent like an hour bwign like "IS THE REASON WE GET ALONG BECAUSE THEY'RE ON METH???? WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS INFORMATION??????" hrhehshe I am literally a fuckin idiot it's fine
It's not that I don't fw them, it's more like... Okay so like there is no situation in which I am going to skip a skz song if it comes on shuffle. You will not ever catch me NOT in the mood to listen to Sunshine, if God's Menu comes on we are THROWIN the meager amount of booty meat I got hither and thither, I could be in the happiest mood of my life but if Ex comes on I will stop to SOB. And I'm not like that with most music, so mx just falls into the category of "there is a time and place." Idk why but it just doesn't forcibly grab hold of my heart and ass the way skz always does. I really don't WANT my skz fixation to ever end, but I know that eventually it'll stop giving me dopamine bevause my brain is my worst fucking enemy 🙃 like my arcana fixation is to date the longest running hyperfixation I've ever had, going on almost three years, and I used to not be able to spend every single second of every day thinking about Asra, but now... I just feel nothing when I look at arcana stuff. As you can probz tell by the fact that I hardly post arcana anymore 😂 So I know that eventually all my happiness will end, it always does, I can never stay just as obsessed with something as I was for long. I CANT SHARE THE LIST BECAUSE I DONT *HAVE* TASTE YET 😭 I'm basically just compiling a list of any group someone tells me I should look into, ranked by how strong the kitty purred upon googling pics of them 😂 My mom read my ass to FILTH over txt lmfao she was like "they're not that adorable. Maybe your standard for adorableness has gone down with You Know Who still on hiatus 🤔" bfjwhdhd like MOMMAAAAA THE LIBRARY IS CLOSED 😂 she attacks me any time I even hint at stanning other groups, she is a skz purist and stans skz only, unofficial Momma Stay of All Stays keeping me in check lmfao.
I feel like skz really do follow thru on their promise that they're a safe space for stays, it's nice to see that they hold space for anyone and everyone in their fanbase and do it in a really simple and elegant way, I feel. Like they never make it seem like "okay here are the fans and here are the token weirdos that were only recognizing to make a buck off of them" the way a lot of artists make it feel like 😑 like they don't go out of their way to act like it's some revolutionary act to do the bare minimum of not shitting on certain parts of the fandom, if that makes sense. They feel very "yeah, of course we love all our stays, this is a welcoming space for literally anyone, that's how it should be, that should be normal," instead of like "Hi fans we love you 😊 and special shoutout to you ell gee bee tee folk, make sure to buy my rainbow merch after the show!!!" you know? Like, they're the friends who would never make you feel weird or different for some shit, the friends that take the attention off you if something they know ur sensitive about comes up, instead of weirdly snapping at whoever brought the unfomfy thing up which ruins the mood and makes you feel tiwce as bad, yk? They just give off this vibe that they, and the space they create with their music, is just a genuine and chill place to be and hang out and relax and bond. I feel like they'd be the friend group that is so goofy and sweet and silly and accepting and lovely and always makes you feel loved and excited to be alive 🥺 They are all good noodles 🥺🥺🥺

No. 6 Collaborations Project: A review!
It’s been a week since this fabulous album has dropped into our hands. Click “Keep reading to hear my thoughts on each track!
Track 1. Beautiful People Khalid ★★★★ Favorite Lyric: You look stunning dear/So don’t ask that question here
Thoughts/Reflection: Ed keeps referring to this song as ‘cozy’ and I completely agree. The vibe is cool. I love the tone of his voice here and I think it meshes really nicely with Khalid’s. The content isn’t super relatable, but I think we can all take something away from this one. It’s a good note on self-awareness and being able to see the reality in things that may look glamorous on the surface.
-
Track 2. South of the Border feat. Camila Cabello, Cardi B ★★★★★ Favorite Lyric: So join me in this bed that I’m in/Push up on me and sweat darlin’/So I’m gonna put my time in/Won’t stop until the angels sing
Thoughts/Reflection: This track is literally freaking scorching hot fire. TBH I’m surprised that they led the album with IDC and not this one. It feels like big radio potential to me. Regardless, this song is an absolute BOP - so catchy and so fucking sexy.
I know Ed’s Spanish leaves something to be desired ☺ But I feel like we can cut him some slack after singing (yet another) song dedicated to going down on a woman. The ginger is forgiven! Five stars for him! And I’m going to have SOTB on repeat all summer (or for the rest of my life).
Oh, I also really like Cardi on this song. IDK if she’s problematic or w/e, I don’t really follow her in the media at all. But her verse is fun. (I think Ed got a lil jungle fever AY) bahahahah
-
Track 3. Cross Me feat. Chance the Rapper, PnB Rock ★★★★★ Favorite Lyric: Know she gonna slide anytime you bitches talk shit/Keep a lil blade in her fuckin’ lip gloss kit
Thoughts/Reflection: Love love love LOVE this one. It just makes you want to get up and DANCE the damn thing! I have to laugh a little at the thought of Ed being hard & tough, lol, but it’s a cool concept nonetheless. Like he said in his Charlemagne interview, it’s kind of a love song…. but a different tempo. It’s catchy as all hell and Chance’s verse is fucking cool.
Full points.
-
Track 4. Take Me Back to London feat. Stormzy ★★★★★ Favorite Lyric: Coz you can win BRITS (it don’t stop)/And you can do Glasto (headline slot)
Thoughts/Reflection: Fuck. This song, though. IIt’s the first one that jumped out at me when I did my first full album listen. And I haven’t stopped listening since. The chorus is so syncopated. Stormzy is sick on this track, I love his voice so much. And it just feels like the two of them really play off each other nicely and probably had a blast making this song.
Also, Ed flexing “Grossed half a billi on the Divide tour/No I’m not kidding what would I lie for” is BDE and I’m personally really here for it.
This song is a banger and you should dance in your kitchen to it while baking pastries. FIve stars for you, Big Mike and Teddy.
(Dear God please let Stormzy guest live in Ipswich)
-
Track 5. Best Part of Me feat. YEBBA ★★★★ Favorite Lyric: it’s not a lyric but that part when Ed & YEBBA are harmonizing perfectly in the whoooaaAAaaaA
Thoughts/Reflection: I love the sound on this song! His voice is so raw and tender here. It reminds me of Plus era, but grown up. I think it may be how delicately he approaches the syllables in his verse and the chorus. YEBBA’s tone is super rich and lovely, and they sound great together.
I’m taking a “star” off here because I don’t love the lyrics. I get that he’s being vulnerable and showing insecurities in verse 1, but then YEBBA follows that up with lamenting about misplacing things and being late for the train? It doesn’t seem to match up with admitting physical/bodily insecurities. Also, it could just be that I hate that Ed thinks of himself this way.
DUDE IS HOT AF
-
Track 6. I Don’t Care feat. Justin Bieber ★★★★ Favorite Lyric: I don’t like nobody but you/I hate everyone here
Thoughts/Reflection: Oh god. When did this song come out? I’m trying to think back to my first impressions of it, LOL. It’s bright and poppy and of course it went and stayed #1 all summer (thus far). I remember thinking it was so cool that the melody is super mainstream and upbeat, but the underlying theme is around social anxiety. “Crippled with anxiety/But I’m told I’m where I’m sposed to be”
I mostly skip this one now that the full album is out, but I think I listened to it for a full 48 hours on repeat when it first dropped. Bieber is problematic and shit, and honestly I don’t think he adds much to the song. I really like Ed’s acoustic version where he does the whole thing solo.
The bridge slaps. Literally. I love that clapping bit behind it. I wish that Ed hadn’t fucked up the lyrics to the bridge in the acoustic version lolololol
Four stars, will bop along for many moons to come
-
Track 7. Antisocial feat. Travis Scott ★★★★★ Favorite Lyric: So antisocial but I don’t care/Don’t give a damn I’m gonna smoke here/Got a bottle in my hand bring more tho
Thoughts/Reflection: DID YOU SEE HIM GUEST AT TRAVIS’ SHOW LAST NIGHT? This song was already one of my faves but holy shit. In interviews, Ed talks a lot about feeling awkward on stage without a guitar - but it didn’t look like that last night. He was bouncy as all hell, sounded great, looked great. Looked like he was loving the crowd’s energy too.
And the music video? That deserves a post all on it’s own.
This track is pretty short but it’s packed with good stuff. Ed’s intro is really strong here, the chorus is interesting despite the repetition. I physically can’t help but groove along to this tune. I’m sorry. I have no say in the matter
-
Track 8. Remember the Name feat. Eminem, 50 Cent ★★★★★ Favorite Lyric: 20 years old is when I came in the game/And now it's eight years on and you remember the name/And if you thought I was good, well, then I'm better today
Thoughts/Reflection: YES. YES. YES.  The song intros with a reference to Ipswich, bitch. I love how Ed makes those connections back to his upbringing.
It’s a little unreal that these three iconic voices/styles can flow so well on a song and still sound so balanced.
I’ve got this one on repeat too. I’m determined to learn all of the words damnit!!
Five stars for a tune that I would love to see performed live someday.
-
Track 9. Feels feat. Young Thug, J Hus ★★★
Favorite Lyric: See you wigglin’, jigglin/If I have a bite will it taste like cinnamon?
Thoughts/Reflection: This song is fine. I like the feature verses. The song just doesn’t stick out that much for me.
-
Track 10. Put It All on Me feat. Ella Mai ★★★
Favorite Lyric: I try to be strong but I got demons/So can I lean on you?/I need a strong heart and a soft touch
Thoughts/Reflection: Falsetto. Falsetto everywhere. I love that! Ella Mai’s voice is so rich. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot more to say on this one. It’s not a song I’m playing on repeat, but I don’t skip it either.
-
Track 11. Nothing On You feat. Paulo Londra, Dave ★★★★ Favorite Lyric: You and I/Whisky on ice/Maybe later we can turn down all the lights
Thoughts/Reflection: This song is SEXY and cool…. ‘smoke clouds and the scent of perfume’.... the imagery. Man. More falsetto here. Also, please go look up the translation of Paulo Londra’s verse. Thanks. I’m sweating. Is it hot in here? This album is *sexual*
ALSO THE ‘BRRRP’ AFTER “they keep ringing my phone”  bahahahahah
-
Track 12. I Don’t Want Your Money feat. H.E.R. ★★★★★
Favorite Lyric: I need you here for the good times and the bad times/Yeah the pullin’ out my hair gettin’ mad times/Not just the when I’m in your bed on my back times
Thoughts/Reflection: THIS IS SUCH A GODDAMN TUUUUNEEEEEE!!!!!!! I love this song so much. 10/10 jamming out to this in the car at every opportunity. Finger snappin’ cool r&b vibe. I love the super quick tempo (but not quite rap?) in Ed’s verses. And I always appreciate the little double-meaning-references in Ed’s songs - like ‘diamonds, silver or gold’ means $$$ of course, but also just success in terms of album sales performance.
TBH when I saw the title on Ed’s tracklist reveal, I totally thought this would be a slow mushy love song about how Ed’s lucky to have found someone who wasn’t into him for his money. This was a pleasant surprise!! I love that it’s a little angsty.
Five STARS bitch I love this song and y’all are sleeping on it
-
Track 13. 1000 Nights feat. Meek Mill, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie ★★★★
Favorite Lyric: Birds eye view/Pay my dues/For a two-mile queue
Thoughts/Reflection: i been ON for a thousAND NIGHTSSSSS NEW YORK TO LONDONNN DIFFERENT CITY EVERY DAYAYYY
1000 Nights: a flexy bop and I love it
This song is about the Divide tour which has been going for approximately 572 years. Not that I’m complaining.
But it’s cool (how many times have I said ‘cool’ in this post? don’t answer that). Ed loves touring and that comes out in this song. And Meek’s verse is so fun to rap along to!
Four stars.
-
Track 14. Way To Break My Heart feat. Skrillex ★★★★★
Favorite Lyric: I can’t stop thinkin’ bout her/And her lips on mine, so soft/Feelings I don’t know the name of
Thoughts/Reflection: biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch.
This song is NOSTALGIC and I simply adore it. It has that same… “cozy” feel that Beautiful People does. Which is strange, considering it’s a song about heartbreak. But it’s just so. Soft. And warm.
We’re back to super soft placement of words and such pure tone.
It’s hauntingly beautiful. And yet uptempo! Bless, Skrillex. I especially love the drums that come in during the chorus, after “you’re still gone, and i’ll say”
PS, the soft sound of mouth smacking at :13. Use headphones.
Some of my favorite Ed songs are ones about heartbreak, and I appreciate that he included one here. About an imaginary heartbreak 👀
Take another five stars from me, bud
- Track 15. BLOW feat. Chris Stapleton, Bruno Mars ★★★★★
Favorite Lyric: Hot damn/Pop it like a pistol mama/You got me down on my knees/Baby please?
Thoughts/Reflection: *laughing nervously*
Again, definitely not what I expected out of this track when the titles were all revealed. I LOVED release day on this one. The world collectively lost their shit. I need nothing more in this world than to see this song performed live, especially with a full band and Ed on an electric guitar.
I’m still not over this loud, full, energetic song full of men bellowing about wanting to, well, fuck.
Bye
(five stars from me and also my 62 year old coworker Jan)
:::OVERALL:::
This album is SO GOOD MATE and I already cannot wait until the next collabs project! Ed blessed us with 15 amazing tracks to tide us over until Subtract comes out. They’re so different from his normal album stuff and I really love to see him try new sounds and get to create/collaborate with artists he admires so much.
it also has me real hot and bothered lmao
Thanks for coming to my tEd talk.

BTS’ reaction to their S/O sharing a certain skill with them
~ If you don’t mind can you write BTS reacting to you being amazing at the same skill as them or even better than them (like for rap line they catch you rapping Eminem or the dance line finds you doing super hard choreography or the vocal line hears you belting it out to a song, that kind of thing.) I hope you please write this if you can. Love the blog!!! ~
I’m kind of winging it, so I'm sorry if it’s not what you wanted.
Jin ~ Cooking
He’d constantly brag to you about how good the food he makes was. Saying stuff like, You wouldn’t even know what to do without me. You’d starve. Sure, it could hv ebeen true, you know, if you hadn’t been cooking all your life. One night you made the dinner while he was at work, leaving it on the stove.
“Babe! I’m home.” Jin screamed, closing the front door.
“Dinner’s on the stove.” You said, picking up the living room.
He was very confused, he usually made dinner when he came home
“I thought I was making it.”
“I thought I'd give you the night off. Your day was probably rough, hmm?”
Still being skeptical, he got some, sitting down. He began eating, his eyes lighting up.
“Good?”
“I didn’t know you can cook!”
You raised your eyebrow at him.
“You did this to prove a point, didn’t you?”
He laughed when you nodded. He quickly finished his plate, getting more.
“Do you mind if I bring some to the guys tomorrow? The need to try this.”
Tumblr media
Suga ~ playing the piano
You sat on the bench, your fingers easily finding their way to the right keys. you closed you eyes, still playing. A door slammed, making you jump and fall back.
“How can you play so effortlessly?” Suga asked, walking over to help you up.
“I’ve been playing for awhile. Just picked it up.”
“Can you show me?”
You nodded, beginning to play the piano. You watched as he looked at your fingers move. His expression turned from confusion to amazement as you continued to play.
He looked at you, getting slightly scared when he noticed you looking at him.
“You aren’t even looking at the keys?!”
You laughed. He mouth hung open as he looked at the piano and then back to you.
“I can’t even play that! Let alone not looking at the keys!”
Tumblr media
J-hope ~ dancing
“GUYS,Y/N CAN DANCE!” J-hope screamed, scaring you.
He ran out of he room, his arms flying everywhere.
“J-hope!” You screamed, running after him.
You tackled him to the group, pressing your hand over his mouth.
“Not everyone needs to know!” You laughed as he tried to talk.
“Why not? You’re amazing?”
“Thanks, but I really don't want everyone knowing.”
“Well take it from me then.”
Tumblr media
Namjoon ~ rapping
You’d be carelessly listening to music, headphones in. You began rapping the fast part of the song, not realizing Namjoon had just walked into the room. He looked around, confirming it was for sure it was you rapping. He sat, just listening. You looked up, jumping when you saw him. You took an earbud out.
“Don’t sneak up on me like that!” You laughed, clutching your heart.
“I’m sorry. Sorry.” He apologized, “I had no idea you could rap.”
You shrugged, putting your earbud back in.
“Wait!” He said, lunging at you, preventing you from putting the earbud back.
“You should really be in one of our songs sometime. You’re amazing.” He smiled.
He was impressed, no doubt. You had to be good for him to even consider you being in one of their songs.
Tumblr media
Jimin ~ dancing
You sat in the dance room, tired from practicing. You pulled yourself up, telling yourself just one more. You began dancing, looking at yourself in the mirror. Jimin was standing in the room, looking at you in the mirror.
“Jimin!” You screamed, taking him out of his trance.
“I’m sorry. I came in here to get my stuff, and got side tracked.”
“Okay, get your stuff and go.”
You walked over, restarting the music, preparing to start.
“You’re really good. I don’t even think I can do that.”
“Of course you can do it, you’re Park Jimin.”
“Can I watch you dance? Please? You dance so well.” He begged. “Please, please, please, please, please.”
You laughed. “Fine Jimin.”
He smiled, watching you dance to the music. He was in absolute aw.
Tumblr media
Taehyung ~ singing
You’d be with the guys, just messing around and singing. You and Jungkook would hit a high note, and you’d be able to hold it longer. Everyone would stop what they were doing, whether it was making the beat or rapping. They would all look at you, Tae’s expression by far the best.
“What?” You’d ask, looking at them.
“She beat Jungkook in singing! The singing champion!” Jimin would exclaim.
Tae still had the same expression, looking at the other members to see if his ears heard correctly.
“That was the best high note ever. It was so smooth. What the heck, what at you? Jesus?” Tae said, finally speaking.
Tumblr media
Jungkook ~ gaming
Jungkook let out a frustrated groan as he was killed again by the same exact person. He had no idea who they were, or why they were targeting him but he knew they were good. One second no one would be around him and before he knew it, he was dead. He carefully walked around, focused on not dying.
“What the hell? Who are you?” He said into the headset, now annoyed as he died for the hundredth time.
“Jungkook?” You said. He was working on some stuff so you hadn’t been able to see him in awhile.
“Y/n? I didn’t know you played. How are you so good?” He asked, running past a wall.
You were hiding behind it, quickly shooting him.
“God damn it.” He laughed.
He was kind of upset that you were better than him, getting over it quickly though. He seen it as an opportunity to bond more and have an excuse to spend more time together. He was quite impressed with your skills as he watched you in action.

19-09-2020 / In A Background of Multitude Bumbles, Finding Octaves & Harmonies – My Fundamentals of Music
Tumblr media
Music comes to me au naturale. My mother fondly recounts how I would sleep to the songs of Rafi and Mukesh. While growing up I saw my dad humming Odia bhajans at times and mom listening to Kishore. The radio in our home would play on from dawn till dusk without any interruptions – and thus I was hooked on to songs from my early days.
Now the times are much different – we were the generation who had a cassette like our parents, but we also had a Walkman to portably play it. It was a pleasure to create mix tapes, curating songs, waiting for the exact name and film on music channels to pass the same to the cassette guy, and waiting for the final product was an experience to behold; and it continued till the advent of the CD. Now rather than 6 songs a-side, a CD could have 100 albums each having 7-8 songs, and that was a bust. CDs were in vogue, they were collected, burned, shared, and stocked (geez, I still have my entire CD collection since 2004, while my laptop doesn’t have a CD-player either). CDs & DVDs dominated the system, until the OG arrived, Internet. Now any song we would want to hear was just a few clicks away. It was an unprecedent level of accessibility and availability, and it was utilized to the maximal extent.
For me, the allure to music was in phases.
Firstly, in school till I joined college (that is +2) it was kind of a succession. (In ecology succession means gradual increase in complex lifeforms on a baren land – like a rock to rainforest transformation). I was inspired by what I heard with my parents, my friends, and all the speakers that used to blast publicly. From Puchuki Gali Fesana Bali to Pyaar Hua Ikraar Hua, there wasn’t a thing about genre then, it was all that could be acquired. Emraan Hashmi did a certain attention towards sensuous songs, but it was well balanced by likes of Sonu Nigam, KK, Shaan and many others who had their own niche and charm. The ball game entirely morphed by the advent of downloaded songs, and ample thanks goes to Samit (well, Somu Bhai deserves the actual credit for instilling in him a sense of good music, and by passing on the select lists, still!). Now we had access to Black Eyed Peas, Madonna, PitBull, JLo and what not! But then something happened and rap and hip-hop took over. Eminem, 50 Cents, Don Omar, Wisin n Yandel became our music Gods, whose lyrics we chanted and tunes we hummed. To all these Linkin Park & Eagles added the requisite emotions, while Enrique was always there when the need was something smooth and amorous. Apart from the obvious contribution of Homiii, two great friends – Loy and Govind – did shape the preferences a lot. If not for them, I would have never known, What Does The Fox Say!
I had the privilege of studying at AIIMS Bhubaneswar – privilege not only because of it being an Institute of National Importance, but I got to share my living space with people of my age from all over India, with varied tastes, and we were just 50, so mingling and sharing wasn’t a rarity but an usual occurrence. This began my phase of exploration. Both of my roommates couldn’t have been polar opposites when it came to music – Pandu (Dr. Praveen Kumar Panda, an excellent artist and future surgeon) would play Vika Zigulina’s Desert Rain or listen to funky bass drop beats whereas Sabu (Dr. Shubham Samal, excels in every sport and future surgeon too) would dance to Hawwa Hawwa (the old one) and blast out every barajatri (hard to explain – groom’s procession during a marriage!) song ever known! But then I also picked up Lipistick from my Bhojpuri-loving friends, Parayuvan from my Malayali guys, and when all of us had to create ruckus together, we just shouted – “Ho-Ho”, and that’s music to these nostalgic ears of mine.
It did not stop there, I went international. My playlist would be a world tour – listening to Kuzu Kuzu by Tarkan, followed by Khalleed’s Cest la Vie, diving to traditional Japanese tones in A Samurai’s Death and then jamming to Daft Punk & Pharrel’s Get Lucky – I could visit every place just with a next click; and that was something spectacular. Not for my neighbouring room though – he always complained that I needed to find a stability in my music – to go from an Odia bhajan to an Ukranian lullaby, and everything in between,  within 30 minutes, was too hard for him to suffer. What happened next could be better imagines, as he did buy a noise-cancellation headphone set (and he is a surgeon too!).
The final phase is one of admiration. The complete credit of which goes to two guys and an old young man, Bhuvan (Dr. Bhuvan Yadav – dedicated Microbiologist and a up-and-ready for most things after a peg-of-single-malt guy), Anirban (Dr. Anirban Kundu, Pathologist & soon to do Liver biopsy cum reporting of self), and Ashish bhai (Dr. Ashish Dash, goes by weird Insta & Twitter handles – claims to have had a tryst with the dinosaurs, yet has a young heart – which sometimes fails to beat properly) respectively. From Halka Halka Suroor to Late Her Go I could now find meaning in songs. Old Hindi songs I was quite familiar with and Ashish bhai just helped me relieve those again, but the real deal was finding Bhuvan’s playlist (how it was formed can never be disclosed, and he says it is a dynamic living organic process, and will continue forever. Amen!). By this time listening to Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, John Mayer and the bunch, I could well say, by their music, I was comfortably numb.
These phases matured gradually like in a distillery, slowly getting the smoky-peaty taste and the oak-cherry smell; and with each Angel’s Share getting a tone smoother and going up a note higher.
There was neither any erasure of moments nor ceasure of acquisition; it was just that each of them just kept holding on to song next forming an ever-updating playlist that I would play forever, transferring as inheritance to my generations to come. From the gibberish of Non-Odia Bhoota to the emotional pang of Wake Me Up When September Ends, from the romance of Truly Madly Deeply to the veracity of Rap God – every piece of music, every tune, every chord has a story to tell, if you have a pair of ears and heart to spare.
Given a chance on my deathbed, if I could pass away into the after-life with a song playing in my background, I would choose, Mayuri Go! (even if you don’t know or till now have no inclination towards Odia songs, I would earnestly suggest you to have a listen!)
           What would yours be?

Review: Boogie delves subtly into an existential crisis via the irresistible groove of Everything's for Sale
Boogie is many things, and just about none of them show at a cursory glance. This doesn’t necessarily bode well for the young Compton rapper when the irritatingly similarly named A Boogie wit a Hoodie can catch hype after him and blow up faster, with a #1 album that actually sold nearly nothing, doing remarkably little and signifying less.
Yet Boogie pushes on. You’d think signing with the highest selling artist of 2018 would be a boon, but with critics more determined than ever to avoid Eminem’s existence, the whole Shady Records thing may well be more of a hurdle than a launch pad for Everything’s for Sale.
In spite of the belly ache certain snooty music writers may have had over the latest great California hope signing with their self-imposed nemesis, Boogie’s debut seems to have arrived largely untampered with, and more than capable of standing up on its own merits.
Hailing from the same neighborhood as one Kendrick Lamar, Boogie, real name Anthony Dixson, has quickly had parallels drawn to the kingpin of the TDE roster, as well as Vince Staples. These regional comparisons may be overly convenient, but they’re not entirely without merit. Dixson shows far more vision than your average MC, with his more recent mixtapes, The Reach and Thirst 48, Pt. II, both boasting considerable focus and intent, yet, at the end of the day, he’s very much his own man.
In contrast with the serious grandeur of Lamar and the biting critiques of Staples, Boogie is a thinker often annoyed with over-thinking. A thinking man’s MC that just doesn’t see himself that way. He takes seriously dense topics, whether the fear of poverty and racial discrimination of The Reach or the more the personal concerns of Thirst 48, and deconstructs them with near disdain.
As a rapper, he’s so skilled he needn’t appear to display any. His thoughts tumble out in short bursts, a flow so casual and effortless you’re bound to miss exactly how searching and involved half of what he’s saying is on first, second, and even third pass.
As Everything’s for Sale opens, he raps, “I’m tired of working at myself, I wanna be perfect already/ I’m tired of the dating process, I wanna know what’s certain already/ I’m tired of questioning if God real, I wanna get murdered already,” with a gunshot and the sound of police drowning out the last line: and this is just to start things off.
Boogie is deft at putting off a deep sense of pain with a gentle groove, and much of Sale is vibe and smoke ready. Very much a headphone album, the record is mixed with such precision that it often belies the gravity of its creator’s words, no doubt by design.
He may be a rapper’s rapper in many respects, but Boogie is readymade for these times; his lovelorn sense of insecurity tailor-made for the era of social media, with thoughts such as, “She read my text, I read her mind,” and, “I wish you'd talk more, know that that's a lost war,” seeping out even amidst the flawless driving music that is ‘Silent Ride’. In fact, if there's a general emotional arc to Everything's for Sale, it's Boogie's difficulty in acknowledging the heart of a hopeless romantic, as particularly betrayed by the mix of insecurity and blind worship that is 'Sky Dive' and the adoring 'Swap Meet'. Jaded or not, Boogie has a lot of feelings, and refreshingly, he isn't afraid to share them, however vulnerable it leaves him.
‘LOL SMH’, on the other hand, is a more direct commentary on its day and age; the potential eyeroll of its title turning out to be a depressive missive on a flagging relationship and the despair of a black youth all too aware of his plight. Boogie makes the like of, “Ain't no dreams of being like Mike, he can't do shit for me,” cut deep.
The features, while all passable, all prove simply backdrop to Boogie’s show. 6LACK acquits himself well but is generously happy to play second fiddle. J.I.D proves as indistinguishable as ever, inoffensive, but his presence is nearly unnoticeable.
Eminem is a fossil, a snarling dinosaur that devours ‘Rainy Days’, still on his Kamikaze grind (“Marshall is dead in the water,” does manage to sting), but plays his role well, offsetting Boogie’s laidback nature at nearly the halfway point, reinvigorating the listener for what’s to come.
Perhaps most crucially, trumpeter Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah provides longing playing to the devastating ‘Whose Fault’, as Boogie finally bottoms out:
“You say my son got a game and I need to get him to it, uh Though I miss him I say ‘shit, no I ain't finna do it’ 'Cause I'm too pissed I say ‘no bitch, go tell your nigga do it’ uh Another stereotype that I couldn't prove wrong.”
Contrasted with the self-righteous pandering of a J. Cole, or the supreme realization of a To Pimp a Butterfly, Boogie is the everyman, the relatable. In short, rather than the ideal, Boogie is the reality, unafraid to fill gentle, chill session worthy soundscapes with sneaky bits of stark humanity and honesty, unafraid to say, “Don't be callin' me woke (No)/ I cheat on my queen for a ho.”
Does this always make Boogie likable? More often than not, in fact, yes. He’s just as wounded as the rest of us, just as much a pig at his worst, just as noble at his best. Boogie simply isn’t interested in delusions of grandeur, nor in coating his music in easy “message” moments, preferring to dash out ideas in fleeting contradictions and glimpses of fear and pride.
In an attention short era, subtlety is a hard sell, but if there’s any justice left amidst Spotify’s algorithms, Everything’s for Sale will find an audience. Its gilded despair only leaves a greater impression with each listen. If there’s an album for the sad Instagrammer, posing in a beam of perfect light, copyrighted smile, only to heave a sigh, this is it.

MARLEY WATERS ft. NALDO BENNY
Top Hip Hop Songs
Hip hop music has been around for 30 years now, and during this time there have been many artists to provide amazing songs. But, some of these songs have caught in our minds and still make us rise up and dance and sing along when we hear them. We salute those that have given us musical expertise so exceptional to make us melt once we hear their tune.

I will begin this text by saying that it's a good idea to have an engineer that focuses on mixing Hip Hop songs be the one to handle the mixing of your private home studio recorded Hip Hop songs. There may be nice value in having one other set of ears interpret the sounds & make a combination that sounds good in an environment designed for mixing Hip Hop recordings by an individual who deals with Hip Hop mixes frequently. That being mentioned, the purpose of this article is to provide the Residence recording studio artist some suggestions, perception, & an outline of placing together a Hip Hop track mix utilizing the software program/gear that they have already got in their house studio.
In the course of the tracking phase of the recording process you might be/should be specializing in capturing the best recorded tracks on an individual foundation, making sure every recorded factor is of good high quality & recorded at an optimized level with no clipping/distortion. The mixing phase is all about making all these recorded elements mix together & sound good with each other to supply an important sounding & attention-grabbing track combine as a whole. On the mixing stage it's best to deal with how issues sound along with each other greater than how a bit sounds by itself. If you were to solo a component & tweak the EQ, it may sound higher when by itself but when placed in the combine the adjustment might be clashing with another half so at all times make changes in the mix while being attentive to the combination as an entire.
When establishing the combination a good way to make panning choices is to visualize your monitor separated into each instrument being played by a stay musician on stage with the main/lead vocal often panned in the middle. Alter the panning of each instrument across the stereo area within the locations that you just visualize the digital musician standing whereas taking part in the instrument sound. Use reverb results at various decay/suggestions settings to add distance & space to parts while keeping some sounds freed from reverb to maintain the mix up shut & private. It is a good suggestion to examine your mixes on good high quality headphones as this provide you with an concept of how the totally different panning setting are working & will let you understand if there are any sounds that aren't displaying up an excessive amount of on either facet of the stereo discipline.
The bass drum & different bass components are usually served greatest within the middle as bass tends to be perceived in a mono fashion so could as properly place it so. Lead vocals ought to be panned in the middle with over dubs & adlibs panned at various locations with slightly lower quantity than the lead & with delicate EQ differences. You need your instrumental to be like a kind becoming foam mattress that your vocal is able to "lay" down into & be embraced by. You do not need your vocal to sound like it was simply positioned on high of a flat beat. You need your mix to have changes in dynamics, with ups & downs that can build anticipation then release it & so on. You should definitely check your mix on a mono playback machine as nicely to ensure all parts are nonetheless heard, if in case you have any very wide instrument panning you might lose the sound when heard in mono so make changes to sound good in mono & stereo. The extent in your stereo mix ought to be Peaked at about -3db on the meter without hitting the purple. This may give the mastering engineer the headroom n
eeded to maximize the sound of your music & mastering will bring the level up to the max.
The ultimate mixture of all elements should be listened to on as many various kinds of sound sources as attainable comparable to ear buds, laptop speakers a bookshelf system, and/or a automobile stereo. The more different sources the higher as this may allow you pinpoint any re-occurring issues that may then be fixed "within the mix" Upon getting a accomplished combine that you have performed A/B comparisons with industrial tracks and also you imagine your combine is shut enough, you'll be able to enter the mastering stage. If you are a beat maker that has no vocal tracks, you may still mix your beat/instrumental using the same tips/techniques above whereas saving the vocal combine ideas for later.
The data in this article has given you an outline of the Hip Hop music mixing process within the home studio that I myself are likely to observe, it's possible you'll alter your process to fit your personal tastes as what I've supposed was to give you a type of mixing roadmap to follow when you are unsure tips on how to proceed.

Preparation Meets Opportunity
Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
Thursday Morning
It’s 4:31 am. I wake up ten minutes before my alarm goes off. I don’t know if it’s that I’m excited for the day, or that my body knows if I get 10 extra minutes, I will not be able to get up.
I get to the station at 5:41 am and am the second person there as usual. DJ Fluffy who is always there in the mornings working the early early shift says “Jeremy! You’re back. Cruz kept asking where you were!”
“Unfortunately for you guys, it’ll be a little bit louder today. I’m back!”
Edgar is taking over for the usual producer, Jeff, today because he is on vacation time. Edgar is a dope guy. I’m the only intern in today. Janessa, the social media person for Power arrives next. I don’t know how it comes up but I mention to her that I rap.
“Oh really? can you freestyle?” She sounds a little bit surprised.
“I can do a bit of freestyling.”
Cruz gets in next with Krystal Bee and DJ Lechero (one of the new morning hosts – funny dude). I brought them all some Coffee Crisp chocolates (which if you didn’t know are only available in Canada) and I give Cruz a baby shirt from Roots (also only Canadian) for his new born Cam. It feels good to be back. I feel like I have missed out over the last two weeks.
There are a lot of ticket giveaways today. I usually answer the phone for the callers who win. Caller 106 is usually the winner so I literally go through 106 callers before saying,
“Good morning. Power 106, how’s it going?”
The last ticket giveaway of the day is for some Clippers vs. Utah Jazz tickets. Edgar asks DJ Lechero if he wanted to freestyle about the giveaway. He looked at the paper and tried rapping a couple of lines and said “I don’t know if I can.”
“I’ll do it.” I said confidently. Even though I was slightly nervous about the opportunity.
“Yeah? Okay cool! You have a couple of minutes before you go on so I’ll play you the beat first”
The beat is a very different Native American drum pattern over some melodic 808 drums to celebrate the “heritage day” Clipper game.
I write down a couple of notes, and the phone number is on the front of the sheet so I rewrite that on the back.
“You ready?”
“I’m ready.” I guess as ready as I’ll ever be.
The show comes back on air and Cruz says “we have our intern Jeremy here and we found out he can rap. Let’s get it.”
The beat drops.
Tumblr media
“Okay, so if you’re out here trynna celebrate heritage day. I can tell you want these tickets when I stare in your face!”
Then I give the phone number. It’s the wrong number. But it was the right number on the sheet for the winner, just not for all of the callers.
“That was fire, but the number was wrong. But still fire.”
“Okay, give me the real number and I got you with a freestyle.
New number is 1059, you know I can run it all the time. Off the top I get dimes, I drop dimes I can an alley-oop, up top. You know on the mic all I really need is one shot.”
“Jeremy!!! There he is!!!” Cruz says as the whole room claps.
“I’m not mad at that!” Krystal Bee says while laughing.
You can watch the full video of the Freestyle here if you haven’t already and let me know how I did.
Wow. I can’t believe that just happened. I just freestyled live on air on LA radio in front of hundreds of thousands of listeners on the #1 Hip-Hop radio station on the west coast. And I didn’t blow it. Well of course I messed the number up, but I like to think it’s not about how you mess up it’s about how you react to it. A minor Learn and a major dub. Fall down seven times, stand up eight.
Is this a dream?
“Thanks for the opportunity guys”
“No problem man. You killed it!!!”
I keep smiling for the rest of the afternoon. But I also feel like it could have been better. I know that if I get another chance, I will murder it. No opportunities left untaken.
I saw that Harry Mack (who is a freestyle king – if you haven’t seen his Venice Beach freestyle then you should check it out here) was in the Power studio a couple of weeks ago and I have a feeling he might be back soon. I told myself that if he is in when I am, then I’m going to ask to freestyle with him, and I will be ready.
No joke, Lose Yourself by Eminem starts playing on the radio while I’m editing the audio from the day to post on The Cruz Show’s Soundcloud page.
“If you had, one shot. One opportunity, to seize everything you’ve ever wanted. Would you capture it? Or just let it slip?”
I choose the former.
Then I take a nap and listen to Frank Ocean.
I have a career fair at night so I put on my suit and go “network.” If I want to stay in LA for the summer, I need a job.
Then after the fair I go eat chicken and waffles on a stick with Sriracha maple syrup with John and we explore Downtown LA. We find a cool book store and I start falling asleep. I leave my phone in the Uber. The Uber realizes and pulls back around. I fall asleep instantly at 11:30 pm.
Tumblr media
Friday
It’s 4:55 am. My alarm clock seems even louder today than it usually does. But I’m ready for another big day. I’m the second person in the building once again and I get everyone’s headphones ready for the morning show. Kendrick just dropped a new record so I listen to that while I do prepare for the day.
They start talking about the record on the show. Cruz looks over at me and says
“What are your thoughts on the record Jeremy? Who do you think he’s taking shots at?”
“I really like it. Drake. I think he has to be taking shots at Drake because he uses that one line from Pound Cake. And Big Sean because he uses a lot of “lil b’s” when Big Sean always uses those at his adlib. So probably both of those guys.”
DJ Lechero says “you could probably start your own hip-hop show. Jeremy the Journalist.”
Harry Mack is in studio today. What are the chances? I read that off the paper and immediately get really excited. Just last night I prayed for another opportunity to get on the microphone. And today it will happen. I have a feeling about it. With the person who I thought it would happen with. My brother showed me Harry’s videos about a week before this and now I will be rapping with him. I’m gonna make it happen.
Me and Harry chill for the mornign and he is a super cool guy.
Edgar comes up to us and says “Hey Jeremy, so I know you freestyle too, for Freestyle Friday we should shoot a little freestyle video in the studio room for the website.”
My time has come. I prepare a couple of bars to start off with and I’m ready to go.
We go to the other room and the “Mask Off” beat by Future starts playing. I start it off.
“I’m right here rapping with Harry Mack, all these other rappers online are sounding very wack, I remember writing all of my lines down on notebooks but I might just have to go and bring my blackberry back” At this point, I am bouncing out of my seat.
“I thought I had heard all of the lines that rhymed with my name to use, but I have never heard that one before. That blackberry line was hard.”
I am so excited that I killed it. Round two they filmed for the website.
Harry starts it off.
“If this where hip-hop lives, Cruz y’all should let me move in. I’mma pass it to my man from Canada yo he’s never losing.”
“I don’t lose, all I do is win. Foot in the building can’t believe let me in.”
I spit about 12 bars and the crowd seemed to like them. I am just happy that I stood my own with the legendary Harry Mack, even though he killed it on the mic as always.
Saturday
I hit the studio inspired and record two more tracks. New music a lot sooner than you think. I decide to stay in at night and just work on some more songs. Then I tried some fruit for the first time in 12 years, only because it looked really good deep fried and it was dipped in garlic butter. Shout out to Britt for changing my life. But we don’t have to talk about me eating fruit ever again (I don’t like any fruit).
What a week.
Lessons:
Prepare for Opportunity
I saw J. Cruz tweet this out and it made me think of my situation. I am in a place where I have so many people who are well connected and know people in the music industry that the opportunity is bound to arise to show my own skills. I have prepared for moments like this my whole life. I freestyle all the time and rap about random words and it was all for this one moment. You have to prepare and practice even when there is nothing in particular to practice for. There are only a few moments that could change your life when you’ll need to take advantage of them, and those are the moments that you need to be ready for. Luck is only preparation meeting opportunity in perfect harmony.
Opportunities aren’t Handed They’re Taken
Sure, I have been blessed with so much in my life in terms of opportunity, but not one of them was handed to me. I took all of them. I went out and said I wanted to meet Cruz and intern for the radio station, I waited around for a half hour after that game, I created interview questions that got my foot through the door, and I said “I’ll do it” to the freestyle. I said “give me the other number and I’ll give you a freestyle about that” after I messed up the first one. You have to be able to see the signs that God and the universe are giving you and you have to take advantage of them, because if you just sit back then someone else will take them for you. I have been blessed with all of the right signs and people in my life, and because of that I will never take a day or a moment like this for granted. If you had, one shot, one moment. To seize everything you ever wanted, would you capture it? Or just let it slip?
I chose the former. More to come.
