People always say “Thorin could never retire in the Shire because he has to be King” — and I think the funniest way to handle that plotline would be for Bilbo to convince Thorin to eliminate the monarchy.

Bilbo has lived all his life in the Shire, where they elect their main leaders in a democratic system. Thorin is the first king he ever meets. Bilbo would initially think monarchy was very storybook-like and fantastical, like the things he’s read about in tales from distant lands…..but he would quickly find the reality of monarchy underwhelming, baffling, and annoying. Thorin/ Thranduil/Bard would make Bilbo decide that all monarchies are terrible. Being a king makes you self-important, haughty, greedy, and warlike. Kings are too powerful and use that power to fight over utter nonsense. They’ve got no one to keep their stubbornness in check. He would come to decide that the Shire really did have it right by holding elections.

I’m imagining a scene where Thorin dramatically confesses “I suffer under the burden of my duties; heavy is the head that bears a crown” and Bilbo flatly responds “don’t be king, then. >:/Elect someone else. If your people don’t want you then they won’t choose you! Im very tired of this whole affair and I wish I were back in the Shire, where folk are more reasonable >:(“

Thorin is enchanted by the strange foreign Hobbit custom of “elected leaders.” He has never considered this as a possibility. Overwhelmed by the Hobbit’s wisdom after the Battle of the Five Armies, Thorin converts his kingdom into a democratic republic and retires from public life.

This causes a domino effect. Other kingdoms across Middle Earth are inspired by Erebor’s example, and band together to reject their monarchical systems. Revolutions ensue.

Thorin’s consort “Bilbo Baggins,” known only as “the dwarf-king’s advisor who first set off this wave of revolutions,” becomes one of the most controversial and reviled people in all of Middle Earth. Bilbo becomes a figure of mythic proportions, loved by the democratic republicans and despised by the royalists, each of which invents their own wild legends.

To the democratic republicans “The Great Baggins” is glorified as a great warrior sent from Valinor to restore the long-forgotten wisdom borne out of The West— he snaps his fingers and with a poof of smoke he washes away all the old corrupt systems of the world, just as the Valar washed away Numenor.

But to the royalists, “The Mad Baggins” is a scheming shadowy monster who crawled up from the deep places of the world to burn the very foundations of Middle Earth to the ground; he’s a monster more powerful and terrible than a dragon or a balrog, who threatened Thorin into submission and brought the world into chaos. he snaps his fingers and monarchies collapse in a puff of smoke.

Meanwhile elderly Bilbo grumpily putters around the Shire with Thorin, mostly oblivious to all of this.

to keep myself sane ive been working on a webcomic about a cyborg that ive been wanting to write for... 6 years now. it works like a visual novel game but it's in browser since i dont know how to actually code. most of the backgrounds are taken from various pc98 games (listed on about page) for right now. i'll make character sprites eventually.

looks best on chrome + relies on css animations for typing effects, pop-up messages, and something like cutscenes. the site's meant for 1920x1080 resolution. you might have to zoom in or out depending on your pc specs.

only 1 chapter is finished and the 2nd just started. i dont have the energy or will to get up from my bed or the couch these days so itll probably update often.

I like the degree of Cheongryeo’s (outright) [From: Debut or Die] psychotic/unhinged tendencies

And I’m not strictly just referring to the full one unhinged things he does. Like, I mean just his way of carrying himself too on a “regular” basis. He’s the type of guy who’d suddenly start laughing and then just randomly stop in the most off putting way (by that I mean he canonically does that).

The whole scene where he’s giving Moondae a car ride is amusing but also off putting, because in Moondae’s own words, “…He seemed a little psychotic” 😭. Like, the whole time they were in that car, Moondae is keeping check of the view ahead and around the car and making extra sure Cheongryeo doesn’t take his eyes off the road while driving ☠️. Moondae did not want to be in that car lmao. Understandably so, due to the erratic nature of even Cheongryeo’s small actions:

Cheongryeo smiled and lightly tapped the steering wheel. Moondae: ‘I’d rather be the person driving.’ […] I only moved my eyes to glance at the rearview mirror but I could see Cheongryeo’s eyes staring at me. …Frankly, it was downright creepy.

Or that one point where Moondae blocked his number, and so Cheongryeo called Moondae’s company to get in contact with him again ☠️

It’s all little things, but definitely add to the fact that this man’s sanity is barely handing on lmao

He immediately exclaimed, “Oh, my, you’re so amazing!” “Oink! This is nothing, oink!” “No. You are amazing. I never dreamed of being able to move that all the way over there, let alone lift it.” “Over there, oink?” Lloyd pointed at the half-finished wall. The orc glanced at it and scoffed. “This is the problem with humans. Watch me, oink.” As though he was lifting up an empty box, he raised the rock over his head. Afterward, he gently placed it on the area Lloyd just pointed to. Clunk! The rock thudded as the orc put it on top of the other rocks. He was able to put it down exactly where it needed to be. Perfect. This is it. Lloyd discreetly clenched his fists. Then, he moved on to carry another brick beside him. He struggled with it on purpose. “Ow! Arghh!! I can’t do it. Why?” “Tsk, tsk. Move human. I will show you how it’s done, oink!” Thud! The orc placed the rock in its correct place once again. This process was repeated several times.

my biggest gripe w most current rotmhs fans is that most of them are webcomic only so the types of fics/content we want to see (tang bo, chung brothers, etc) are lacking due to them not having been properly introduced in the webcomic yet.. we can fix this problem if you people just read the novel...eye twitching

#i compare reading rotmhs to other popular cnovels all the time #but the issue is that rotmhs ALSO has a webcomic.. whereas if u wanted to get into say mdzs in the beginning u only had the novel to read #before it got big and had multiple adaptations that is #so people are taking the effortless manhwa route since no one wants to sit down and read a several thousand chapter long novel #just fell to my knees...i dont know how else to get people into rotmhs... guys.. is it over..
