Anon: Okay, I know you're mad at me, but that's just immature. Can we talk about this like adults, please?
SOC: Fine. Speak.
Anon: You have every right to be upset with me, but please understand that I did not want this. I voted against it. I told them how barbaric it was. You're my friend, and I hated the idea of them doing this to you. But I was outvoted. I had no power to get in the way.
SOC: I see. I suppose they also voted that you couldn't warn me it was coming? They put their hands up to say you couldn't even come and visit me in the months since they ripped my consciousness from my body and placed it in a new one built especially to humiliate me?
Anon:...I cannot do anything at all for you if I am exiled from my position of power over you.

SOC: That would be a shame, wouldn't it, Ben?
Anon: Scrap. Please. I want to be your friend again. I'm sorry I couldn't do more. I voted for you, I spoke up for you. It's not my fault nobody would listen.

Anon:...Oh.
SOC: Yes, what better way to punish me than to give me live footage of you, Benefit of Misadventure, my only remaining friend, speaking not a WORD on my behalf as those of you in charge of keeping me in line discussed how best to destroy me?

for the choose violence ask meme 😘: 9, 10, 16, 17, 18, 19, 22. if this is too many, feel free to pick and choose 💌
OOH okay!!!! I, of course, will answer every single one of these, I have Opinions and am always waiting for any opportunity to share lmao. (These are all for wwdits, and also I am on desktop so please imagine my usual unhealthy amounts of emojis for emphasis/joking cadence, thank u)
9.worst part of canon
The lack of consistency/follow through with pretty basic plot points. For example, Laszlo literally says "God" in the pilot, but then also flinches when Guillermo crosses his fingers in the same episode? Nandor can turn into vapor but can't escape the cage in Animal Control? (we can assume that one is because they're all Big Dumb). Colin Robinson has parents - that are still living??? And of course the glossing over of the year abroad. (but that's my television-wide gripe. I HATE time skips, no matter the show. They're lazy and tell me that you didn't actually know what to do with your plot). I could go on, there are lots.
I will accept the girl wives/guy wives change. That was pure Nandor and I loved it.
10. worst part of fanon
Listen. I love the drama. I LOVE the angst. This is a *comedy show*. We are never going to get the huge, dramatic, heart-wrenching love confession and hour-long sex scene that some fans are actually expecting. Like it can *absoluely* have serious moments, but please lower your expectations. This show averages like 4 shit jokes per episode.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
Forgive me everyone, but Jackie Daytona. Hilarious episode, I love Laszlo so fucking much and Mark Hamill as a vampire is everything I didn't know I needed. But I really do. not. need. another. episode. It was perfect as is. Let it lie.
(also Laszlo has some WAY better lines/arcs outside of his one episode where he was essentially someone else)
17. there should be more of this type of fic/art
Ooh, for fic... I love when people play with the characters/situations from canon a bit. Not necessarily a full AU, but taking some element and asking "what if this happened instead"? I love that.
And there are absolutely no personal biases here, absolutely none, but I would love to see more traditional media fanart. Gimme some paintings, some linocut prints, watercolors, anything! I love to see it.
18. it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...
22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
I'm combining these two, since they're kind of similar. I feel like there's SO MUCH that everyone appreciates, it's hard to come up with something that people have fully ignored.
But I think one of my FAVORITE parts of the show is when they combine actual artwork with images of the characters. My whole life is art history, so I geek out a bit every. Single. Time. I LOVE the attention to detail, and every time I go to an art museum (which is fairly often) I can't help but wonder where the characters could fit in.
It ALSO makes me OBSESS over what contemporary artist would paint vampire Guillermo. I've definitely already made a post about this, but my current bid is for Alejandro Pasquale.
(EDIT: Another artist I think would be great is Ben Ashton. His visuals with the classical style would be so interesting to see hanging next to the actual old artwork in the mansion)
19. you're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like...
I'm not ashamed about it, but since I somehow still see hate over a year later, I want to voice my support for s4. The lighting? GORGEOUS. The costumes/practical effects? STUNNING. College-me that thought I was going to be a theatre set designer could write BOOKS on the changes they made to the house, let alone the club and night market.
Yes, the time skip pissed me off. Yes, there's the entire Marwa/Freddie can of worms. But literally everything else was incredible and the characters had SO MUCH growth. They are so much closer to the family we've been desperate for them to be since s1 because of s4.

9, 11 and 13 :3
(ask game)
I assume you mostly want JtHM takes so I'll focus on those but since you didn't specify fandom I'll chuck in a couple others I feel strongly about if that's ok!
9. Worst part of canon
Johnny the Homicidal Maniac: This is tough, because I really like how everything was handled in the main story. I guess I personally found the doughboys slightly annoying, but at the same time, they served a crucial narrative purpose, so I really can't complain. Every (subjectively) """bad""" part of canon had a reason for being there, so I like every part for what it is. HOWEVER, if we're counting the spinoffs and the little "meanwhile" inserts, I really hated the like... vomit-porn aside thing in Squee. Though I guess hating it was the whole point, so like. mission accomplished? Also I don't really get Noodle Boy.
Adventure Time: Jake should have stayed blue. Explained here. I wrote the submission, hi.
Futurama: Multiple episodes. Neutopia weirdly ramped up everybody's misogyny beyond what's in-character in order to serve the "sexism is bad but gender is still part of the human experience and there will always be conflict" plot (which also is a weird gender-essentialism plotline anyway because like. The Fact That Gender Exists should not equal Conflict). Unnecessarily mean. Like I can see Bender doing that shit but there's no way that Farnsworth thinks that way. Unrelated to that one, Attack of the Killer App (origin of the "shut up and take my money" meme) leaned needlessly hard into gross-out humor. It just didn't fit the tone of the rest of the show.
Actually I'll be here all day if I list all my grievances so I'll cut this segment here.
11. Number of fandom-related words you've filtered
There's a lot of duplicates for The Same Thing Written Different Ways but if I count those as the same thing, 4. Across all fandoms. Though this blog hasn't been around long so this will probably expand in the future.
13. Worst blorbofication
(interpreting this as "wildly out of character to serve the 'comfort' of the person writing about them") Oh baby. I come from roleplay communities. I've seen shit that would make you sick. I've seen somebody play Fern (Adventure Time) Prismo (Adventure Time) and Kevin (Ben 10) all with the exact same personality. I've seen somebody Else who takes LITERALLY over 200 characters (in "no doubles" type places so now nobody else can use those characters), and also makes them all exactly the same... except for the added detail that This person talks like if a wiki page could make fart jokes. (Side note: I think that person also pretended to be three different people. Like there were three separate accounts with different names who all talked to each other, but they all wrote exactly the same way. And with exactly the same fart jokes. And they usually showed up at exactly the same time.) THE ONE SAVING GRACE of all this is that JtHM is obscure enough that I never saw Other People RP it in multifandom spaces, so it was spared this treatment. I have seen glimpses of how the fandom acts on tumblr though so:
JtHM: Nny. I really think Nny gets the worst of it. In canon, he's a very unlikeable person. That's part of why he's so interesting! He tries really hard to be nice to certain people, like to Squee, but he fails every time. He traumatizes that kid. He abuses animals. He's fatphobic. He blames addicts for their addictions. He trivializes the fight against racism (in a brief aside line at the cafe). He's all kinds of messy, awful things, and it's fascinating. It makes you want to pry his brain open and study him. Yet so much of the fanstuff you see of him files down his bad edges and just makes him "funny murder guy" at the cost of the nuances of his personality (this happened to Patrick Bateman too, as an aside). People are scared to confront that he's kind of a piece of shit, just because he's the Cool Protagonist.

gratuitously detailed dislikes.
muse name. laura. lore-a (or with the 'ow' in the middle if that's more natural). don't call her lara, is what i'm saying, SINCE it's on topic.
least favorite nickname. she doesn't really have any. people use terms of endearment, of course, and bobby calls her 'kid', which is about as close as we've got. but she enjoys that.
least favorite season. she doesn't often think about Seasons As Such because the weather is more or less reliable where she's from, but the entire month of february is shot through with trauma anniversaries, so. winter.
least favorite  –––  hot or cold? depends on what it is. hot drinks. [notably] cold weather.
least favorite holiday. valentine's day (though not for the usual reasons). she also struggles with anything very family-oriented due to The Traditions but she's coping. and for my christmas miracle, i will kill ben horne, and then we will all be cured
least favorite food. no meat, no fish, no green vegetables, nothing with a slippery or rubbery texture, nothing too sweet, nothing too sour, nothing too spicy ...
least favorite flavor. pretty much all of them, girl. all canon did was say laura loves corn and still drinks milk. child's palate is terminally white.
least favorite drink. she doesn't like tea of any flavor or temperature. she will drink it only if margaret tells her to, and mostly because she's too superstitious to lie about it.
least favorite scent. scorched engine oil [nervous laughter], anything with a strong artificial scent like a lot of perfume, cleaning crap, etc.
least favorite sound. birds make her anxious :-(
least favorite tv shows. anything gory. could be her mom's nature programs, could be human violence (medical gore is okay, mostly; she's not squeamish, just ... overly compassionate).
least favorite area of school. anything she personally didn't find useful --- most sciences, higher maths, history when the teachers couldn't tell a good story.
least favorite aspect of their job. regarding any of her gigs, she just ... is not made for customer service. she's friendly, but she's impatient, and she doesn't have the particular fortitude necessary to act unbothered when somebody gets under her skin.
least favorite trait in others. uh, like, cowardice, except not as mean as that sounds, because obviously everybody's different and most people aren't as insane as her. and that's good! but she hates when they hide behind their fears and then make it everybody else's problem ♡
least favorite place. i do not think it is necessary to ask THAT anymore.
least favorite thing to talk about. she's pretty open, in theory --- like, she is someone who would rather talk about what's bothering her than have to only write it down. she just needs people she CAN talk to (and, you know, the right ones at the right times). the only relevant thing i can think of that people feasibly COULD ask her about would be her dad.
least favorite thing about themselves. nothing that's actually her fault.
least favorite daily chore. she doesn't mind anything like that. the little routines are nice.
least favorite type of clothing. no hard lines re: style (or lines at all, largely) but i feel like her clothing all has to be VERY soft, no tags or other embellishments that might itch or otherwise be a minor inconvenience. type of sensory issues that had baby laura throwing fits over the lines on her socks not being Just So.
(if she touched one of audrey's sweaters she would probably be moved to tears.)
least favorite superpower. not really on her radar. i guess if you asked her she'd say mind-reading, though, because. obviously.
least favorite thing about falling in love.
Tumblr media
least favorite thing about death. that it never ends, not really.

My thoughts on the S19 episode...I might be all over the place
Since when DON'T they help people that come to the firehouse for treatment? Especially since it did look like it was a couple of sutures. They delivered a baby at the firehouse and helped the passed out husband. And don't doctors take an oath to help no matter what? I doubt that would've cost Carina her medical license.
The ego that Sullivan has that what he did was okay and what Maya did was not is bullshit. Maya was right, they were both anti Beckett and additionally Beckett was anti Sullivan (and Ward?) so Maya got burned on both ends. Also news flash Sullivan, you were sleeping with the Chief, whereas you accused Beckett (even though he was drinking) on a hunch. Also Beckett's mint habit is definitely masking something. They focused way to much on his reliance on them.
How many times did they mention Carina could be pregnant in the episode? It was like every other line, take a beat you were inseminated like 30 seconds ago. That means it didn't take OR she IS and that will cause friction between Maya and Carina as Carina said she doesn't want to have a baby with Maya until she gets help. It wouldn't be a bad thing for Maya to talk to someone, at least to unpack a lot of the anger she carries around from her childhood and now. But why are they making it seem like everyone hates Maya at the house like when she first became Captain. The only one she pissed off was Beckett (and Sullivan), everyone else seems to be cool with her or they don't know. It's just piling on drama for drama sake. I hope they have some resolution planned.
And I just found it really funny that the major annoyance with Jack/Grey is the way he uses his hands and they solved it by handcuffing him in the scene. I didn't really get his hostility to Maya about the sperm bank being closed though. Was it because through the testing for being the donor he found his family and his world crumbled?
I found that weird too...like is it because it wasn't a clinic day or what? But I thought if any person came in that needed help, the firehouse helped so it was clearly just to have Ben act like uptight and annoying to "become like his wife". That's the annoying part with Station 19. All of the things they do with these characters have other motives for drama purposes and they don't even care if it doesn't fit the development or personality of the character. They would rather have it suit their narrative before staying true to the character's persona and that's super frustrating. I'm still mad that made Carina look incompetent because of it too, like give me a break.
These writers are so obsessed with making Sullivan have this god complex and it's sickening. Even when he does stupid things and deals with "consequences" it's like he ends up right back in the spot he started in as if he barely had to suffer. And when he does suffer he plays victim and has people worrying about him and vouching for him but Maya? No. It's like people are either against her or not even acknowledging her. I also think the mints with Beckett has to mean something, he's probably still drinking but I bet if Maya were to find that out, no one will believe her or some nonsense like that.
It does feel like they had Carina mention being pregnant a lot and I hope it's not just because she really wants to have a baby like Stefania was hinting at. They better not make it her whole personality but I do feel like it's going to impact things with her and Maya and I think this try did work and she will be pregnant just to further complicate things. I'm sure Carina won't even tell Maya right away or it will be in some dramatic fashion because they never tell each other anything first, it's always to other people which is another thing that drives me nuts. It's fine if they confide in others sometimes but it's literally ALL the time and then it leads to them fighting with each other for not communicating. I do hope they show Maya eventually agreeing to getting help and talking with someone but who knows if they will.
Haha I know...at least we were free of the hand movements for at least an episode. I just find it so irritating that they are doing a similar story with him that they are with Maya and they already have Andy worried about him and wanting to help and yet no one even cares about what Maya is going through. It's so stupid. And his comment to Maya was obnoxious and unnecessary, I guess it does bring up bad feelings for him since that's how he found out about his biological brother and learned about his parents and stuff but that's not her fault. He's annoying and I hope Carina continues to be cold towards him.

your posts about how /obviously a trap/ Waterfield's plan is made me think hey, what if he did that on purpose, not knowing how truly stuck Two would be without the TARDIS and hoping he might just walk away? and now your tags about Two potentially building warnings into the traps for Jamie and Kemel have me like. what if Evil is just one big nest of 'I'm being forced to do something to you but I'm trying so hard to subvert that as best I can but you don't realise it and think the worst of me'
ooh that's interesting! & definitely not something I thought of before! with Waterfield I was just looking at it from the perspective of him being under-prepared and unenthusiastic about playing the role of a schemer, and turning to tropes from fiction to craft his trap because that's easier than coming up with something totally original, especially under pressure
but this explanation would honestly make a lot of sense (I mean, in the novel, he literally does choose to let Ben & Polly walk away, and I can't imagine the Daleks presented it to him as 'hey, do what you want about these people, it's cool'). Plus, judging by some of the things he says in episodes 2 & 4, Waterfield really hated what he was doing in the '60s, and didn't even feel totally satisfied with it all being justified by the fact that they had his daughter - so, yeah, I definitely think it's possible he was kinda hoping his own plan would fail before dragging anyone else down with it.
On the Doctor's end I'm, like, fighting with myself - because I don't want to just read things into the script solely because I'd like to see them, of course, but also, Episode 4's camera script is particularly messy compared to the others, so I'm a little bit hesitant to base anything off of it alone.
But then on the other hand, what if the only reason that explanation never occurred to me before looking at the script is just because the episode’s missing? Plenty of surviving serials from the era make a point of linking up cuts between a plots & b plots with shots that juxtapose the two directly - you can even find some evidence for that style in this serial in the surviving episode 2, when we get a crossfade from the portrait to Victoria, or before that, when we cut from a live close up of the Doctor's face to the photograph Waterfield's about to use as bait for his trap - and the antique shop sequence is full of brief shots of Waterfield that have no dialogue, including some of him checking the device he has that shows him when doors have been opened, and can lock/unlock them remotely, to let Two, Jamie, and Perry in to find Kennedy’s body. I feel like if that episode had been a recon, those moments would probably have read as more of a general “Waterfield’s carrying out his plan simultaneously” and less of a direct cause-and-effect - so maybe if we still had the visuals, in real moving time to the soundtrack, that linkage in Episode 4 would've also been an obvious conclusion? And the fact that they scripted that line for Jamie & also that it got cut (possibly because it wasn't getting the point across clearly enough?) is a pretty compelling idea...
But also, even if there were no basis for it at all in anything 'canon' I would still argue it's not a bad interpretation of what's going on in the serial - that whole 'yes I'll be the one to do it, not because I want to, but maybe because I can do it more mercifully than anyone else' thing fits with both the Doctor & Waterfield's reluctance to work with the Daleks, even after they both know that Jamie & Victoria, and their respective homes are all at stake. And it's a serial already full of mind control and manipulation and henchmen/subordinates with varying degrees of commitment to their superiors, and competing loyalties among people who perceive themselves to be on the same side - all in all I think that'd fit right in, whether the writers were trying to imply it in that one scene or not

Okay since I didn't live blog:
Every single Anakin / Obi-Wan duel flashback TORE MY HEART. I missed my son so much ;-; when Anakin 'won' and his face lit up with that smile I just died. Seeing him and Obi-Wan just training, being friends and brothers, Anakin being the overeager little shit he is... Ajsjsjjsnsj!!!!! Ahhhhh!!!! And intertwining the flashbacks with the current events and Reva's flashbacks.... Cinema. The 'you will remain a padawan' line, setting up the 'now I am the master' line in ANH again... Very deft.
Reva's arc... SO GOOD. I would've bought that she just wanted revenge on the Jedi for letting this happen or wanted to survive any way she could but specifically rising the ranks to hunt Vader is SUCH a compelling motivation and only strengthens her parallels to him. That duel was fantastic. Reva is such a ruthless fighter and you can tell Anakin trained her. Speaking of, his choreography and the echoes to the duel in flashback were so satisfying.
I felt like Tala's death was mostly well done, but it felt contrived that Obi-Wan couldn't reach her. There weren't that many troopers?? Also with Ned shielding her she could have gotten up and run and still set off the bomb. I'm kind of 50/50 because a thematically satisfying death that lets her but the others time is the best way she could go and Obi-Wan is a death magnet as a rule so like, it fits. On the other hand... She didn't have to die! And that's another awesome woman of color killed off in Star Wars. Either way, rip Tala and Ned ;-; I'm so fucking sorry.
Haja my beloved <3
The Grand Inquisitor reveal was like... Ugh. His acting AND makeup is so bad and it only comes off worse after having a break from him. And it seems so half assed as a plotline? Like they let her think the Grand Inquisitor was dead all this time, and there's no foreshadowing or explanation for us as an audience to make it feel resolved? It felt hamfisted. And I made myself a little sad thinking how much better the scene would've looked with cartoon Quizzy voiced by Jason Isaacs. Isaacs could pull off that kind of scene SO well and this actor just... Not at all. I DO enjoy that Vader and Quizzy collaborated to pull of this dramatic cue and stick it to Reva. I'm imagining Quizzy waiting in the hall behind them until Vader gives the signal. They're a magnificent bastard match made in hell.
The Bail hologram </3 he breaks my HEART. I love the show reiterating that he will absolutely help protect Luke, too and that while Bail loves Leia as her parent he also just loves both of the children and Obi-Wan as his old friend's children and another old friend. He'd do anything in the galaxy for Leia and Luke and Obi-Wan. Also! Reva knows now!!! I'm so excited and scared!! My baby Luke!!!
Leia <3
All the action was so solid. Obi-Wan was absolutely PEAK. I both hated and adored his insistence on surrending to buy time, but 100000% adore how Anakin knew he'd do that, and Obi-Wan knew he knew, how they could predict each other's every move until Anakin got too hasty. I!!!!!!!!!!!! I am screaming!!! And then Obi-Wan pulled his fake surrender trick again. Ben that's still a war crime. I laughed so hard when he took out those troopers, though. And how Anakin was just like 'okay then.'
The ship pull 👀 I know that's shown up in official Star Wars before but I always think of Denouement and it hurts every time.
Uhhh I think that's everything? This episode was fucking great ;-;

So odd question, but have any of the engins gone into a protective rage before? If so, what happend?
It's really a very good question! But I think I'm the wrong person. I've been soul-searching for a while now (as you know, given how long this response took)—and I guess I just don't really have this trope much in play. Not in my headcanons.
It's not so easy, for engines to "go postal." They can wrest control and do a single biff, but beyond that they really need their drivers' cooperation and seldom are both engine and operator going to be in a rage at the same time.
Honestly, that's why their insults and gossip can be so damn poisonous. It's really the only weapon they can freely use.
Gordon once tried to do something rather... dramatic to one of the Three Unnamed Tender Engines, and it was arguably protective. "Rage" is a misnomer, though—Gordon never really acts in anger. He's a strategizer. He'd been toying with and refining the plan for over a year. Won't say anything more for QLIR-spoiler-related reasons... but suffice it to say, there was a reason he panicked and thought karma had come for him, when Bill and Ben threatened to push him into the sea.
Speaking of Bill and Ben, there was a trial engine on the Brendam line in the early 50s. Edward returned from his overhaul to discover that he had kept the twins cowed by telling them that everyone hated them and their tricks would lead to them being scrapped. Edward was ready to chase the errant guest down with murder in his eyes... James, of all engines, had to talk sense and remind him, with amusement (and alarm? but mostly amusement) that violence wasn't the answer.
Speaking of James, he would have gone after Diesel, after his lies were exposed, if his driver had let him. (James really cannot tolerate lies and all that sort of he-said she-said whisper-campaign drama. Gordon and Henry are really rather "political" in that way—but James missed out on some of the conniving and sneaking about that was necessary to survive the N.W.R.'s early days, and has never had any patience for such things. He may be a rude bastard but you are never in any doubt where you stand with him, and he demands the same transparency in return, thank you. Besides, the idea that Duck had been right was alone enough to infuriate him. He didn't want to have to apologize to the pannier know-it-all!) Diesel was certainly frightened enough by James's whistle and forward lurch of rage that he scarpered out of the yards. It was, admittedly, a hilarious and satisfying sight. (Hence James boasting for years to come that he had sent Diesel packing!)
Some "underemployed youths" once vandalized Clarabel. The occasional graffiti tag is one thing (although the engines and rolling stock hate it, as they seldom give consent—nor are asked for it), but they broke her windows and threw a party in there with much smoking and damage to carpet and upholstery. They also considered her protests funny. The damage was quickly mended, but Thomas roared with rage at the suspects when they were brought in by the railway's security force for questioning at Ffarquhar. There is video footage... although FC4 has paid off Youtube and Vimeo, so you'll have to dig deeper than that if you want to see the disturbing sight yourself.
Emily may have done something stupid in a fit of righteous anger once... or twice... However, her lawyers prevent me from speaking of it.
But ultimately, none of this even came close to the protective badassery seen in canon from Donald, Douglas, and Oliver. Those three are about as rough as any FCs are ready to accept. (To be honest, FC3 probably wouldn't have tolerated them, had he been the one in charge back then.)
Go ask @joezworld. He'll have something good, I'm sure of it.

See I would someone believe them maybe changing the endgame if the author who's heavily involved with the show didn't hate them so openly I saw someone say the tagline for the first book was something akin to "darkness pure light a love that lasts forever" and she wasn't expecting people to ship them what??? I'm so confused was she planning for it to be the endgame and then she swerved for some unknown reason .Ben barnes is a huge draw and I'm sure they respect him but he wouldn't be the first veteran in a show to play the villain and nope out of there after a couple of seasons also the way they ADMITTED they changed things about mal that people found annoying they made him perfect and hit us with that meadow scene every 5 seconds bc they're doing a malina slowburn and making sure everyoneeeee knows that they're the OTP as much as I would love for us to get a redemption arc or even have alina turn dark like people said he's a mess but he's trying to fix a problem and protecting the grisha what the hell are the heroes actually doing even at the end of the books they do nothing.... There is no way it's gonna happen and I don't want to set myself up for years of disappointment
I wanna disclaim first and foremost that I have *not* read the books.
At least you know from the get-go that Malina is supposed to be endgame. And I also heard that the author is pretty much as allergic to darklina as anyone else, the same author that, yes indeed, is a producer on the show. I keep my hopes up though, but not by much, that there could be changes made to the ending if the fan reaction is loud enough. It isn’t unheard of, as I’m sure you’re aware. Like we aren’t still reeling from that atrocious Game of Thrones ending as a whole, despite that the author of the series had also been a producer and a writer of the show. And that was coming from an author who was so staunchly adamant that the right kind of people adapted his work. Netflix, on the other hand, has retconned endgame pairings from their source material to the adaptations before. Riverdale comes to mind, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as well. Over at CW, The Vampire Diaries had a drastic overhaul when it came to pairings. Netflix has done it before that they would follow through with the popular ship to cater to the fans.
And I mean, darklina seems to have been the more popular ship *before* the show came out, I’m scarce to think of the standing of the ship now after said release. The fact that the show pushed hard with Ben Barnes’s face is *not* helping the fact. I wasn’t aware there had been a rival ship to General Kirigan x Alina at all until I’ve seen the show. Like there was an obvious baiting here. The show runners knew what they were doing when they cast Ben Barnes - let alone the baiting in the original source material as well.
So I’m not holding up a lot of hope, lmao I ain’t walking around with Booboo the Fool stamped on my forehead all the time, but I am enjoying the ship for as long as we have it. And I know the detractors would say differently but Ben Barnes is the face of the show right now. And he’s real excited about it, about his character, and the darklina ship as well. Like he put all his passion into the role. All these tiny tidbits we seem to enjoy the most in the show are being revealed that Ben improvised them to bring nuance to his character and the pairing. Whatever will happen down the line with the darkling and for Ben, I feel we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. The adaptations changed enough, from what I heard. Who’s to say they won’t change more?
As for the author within her own work I cannot speak too much on it, simply bc I have not read them. From the looks of it, it sounded like she used darklina quite as a shipbait, if even the tag line on her (first) book alluded to some kind of eternal romance between Alina and the Darkling. I am absolutely not gonna lie; if I read that tagline on the first book before I even opened the cover, only for the books to do a 180 on me, then yeah I would sincerely feel baited too. And I feel like she restricted the possibilities of her characters just to allude to her own personal life. I see a few people defending the author for such which, a lot of the times In The Real World, I tend to disagree, especially when it seems that she’s purposely prohibiting the organic flow of where the story and the characters are heading, like allowing the Darkling a worthy redemption arc, just to fit her personal issues in her work. It’s not that I’m saying she shouldn’t— it’s her story, she’s allowed to write it per her whim— it just feels less satisfying to the general writing of the tale she’s telling. And that could factor to weak writing.

If LU was an anime (VA headcanons)
Okay so! A while back I uploaded a video (which you can find here) giving the LU boys voice actors. And in the description of said video, I promised that I was going to post a list of explanations for my voices and link it. Which I am only doing now.
These choices, bar a few, are my own personal opinion, so I'd love to hear your thoughts about them! I spent far to long working and watching anime for this but I am pretty happy with the end result, bar one (glares at Four). So I hope you enjoy! And prepare yourself. Cause this is LONG.
Legend - Vic Mignoga (Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
So fun fact. Back when I first discovered LU, I almost immediately imaged Leg with this voice. He had strong Ed vibes for me and when I started making this list, he was the only one I immediately knew was perfect. At least to me. It just has that quality; the snark with the capability of being genuine and emotional (I do apologise if the voice clips I included in the video made you sad. That's a hazard of FMA). I didn't consider anyone else for Legend, even though I did briefly consider Vic Mignoga for Warriors (more on that later).
Sky - Aleks Le (Zenitsu Agatsuma from Demon Slayer)
Man, I considered a fair few KnY voices for this list, including the voice of Tanjiro for Wild and the voice of Giyu for Twilight. But this is the one that stuck. I was struck between Sky having a youthful, soft voice or an older, soft voice (I knew his voice had to be soft. I mean. It's Sky.)
I watched the dub of Demon Slayer solely for this and it never would've occurred to me to consider Zenitsu's voice for Sky. But as the show progressed and I heard it when he wasn't... you know... begging some poor lass to marry him, I realised he actually has quite a soft voice. And when I heard it get all serious I thought "Yep. That works." And thus I placed Aleks Le as the Chosen Hero. You could argue that his voice is a bit too youthful for him but I still think it works.
Wind - Amanda Miller (Boruto from Boruto: Naruto Next Generations)
Ugh. Ugh. *increasing sounds of disgust*. I hate this.
But let's start from the beginning. Right off the bat, I was 99.9% sure Wind would be voiced by a woman. Okay so he's not 10 (that will make more sense in a second), but he's still pretty young and I imagine him with quite a youthful voice. For him, I considered Sarah Natochenny, the current voice of Ash Ketchum in Pokémon, and also Colleen Clickenbeard's voice for Monkey D. Luffy in One Piece. But these two voices shared the same problem. They were too raspy. I just cannot see Wind with a raspy voice. I guess if you really, really, really focus on it it could work but I just could get it to work for me hfff.
And then... ugh. I spoke to a mate about. He doesn't know about LU so I just told him I was making voice headcanons and couldn't think of a good one for a 14 year old boy. And he said "have you heard Boruto's English voice?" And I think my response was something along the lines of, "Ben, I have standards." But he insisted it would probably work so I watched a clip of Boruto on YouTube and much to my horror, it did seem to work. But there was problem. None of the clips had lines I could picture Wind saying. And because of that I was struggling to actually give Wind the voice. But something told me that it was the right one so... I... *shudders*... watched Boruto. I watched I think 5 full episodes before I had no more braincells and skipped thorough a bunch more and sure enough, I could finally see Wind with that voice. I think it fits him great and it honestly might be my favourite choice just because I had to watch that nightmare.
Hyrule - Justin Briner (Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia)
Ah. This one is much more pleasant. First of all, I never realised this at first but Midoriya and Hyrule are kind of similar. For one thing, they do kinda look alike. And for another they have the same "I will never give up" kinda thing going on.
Roolie is another one I knew would have a soft voice. I think Justin Briner was always down as a choice for him, except for when I briefly considered him for Four (more on that later *big sigh*). This is another anime I watched the dub for solely for this and there were a ton of lines right from the get go I could instantly imagine Roolie saying. So yeah. Aside from the tiny moment I almost assigned Justin Briner to Four, this was a pretty easy one. Midoriya has a soft voice that I could easily imagine Hyrule having. And when he got angry and his voice got harsher, I could also easily see Roolie like that too. Fun fact: there's another BNHA voice on this list... heh.
Wild - Michael Sinternklaas (Dagger from Black Butler)
AW YEAH. YOU HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH BRITISH BOI.
Tumblr media
Ahem. Anyway. Yes Wild is British. Everyone rejoice. I was unsure of how people would react to this but I think this is the only voice on the list everyone agreed on. Which I'm happy about.
As I mentioned, I considered the English voice of Tanjiro (Zach Aguilar) for Wild. There were issues with this; mainly that it was too soft, too young, and made him sound too similar to Sky. Now here's the thing. I WANTED to give Wild a English accent. I am almost certain he would have one, like most people. However the only anime I could think of with decent English accents was Black Butler (and yes I know his final voice is from it, bear with me) and there was a problem with that. Most of the voices from Black Butler are ridiculously posh. Now you may be thinking "But Kai, Zelda has a posh English accent" and to that I would say "Ah yes but she's a princess and Wild is not". And now you might be thinking "But Kai, he's a knight an probably spent a lot of time in a place with posh English accents". To which I would say "But he wasn't always". Two words. Hateno Village.
Let me explain.
I feel like a lot of people hear the words 'English accent' and immediately think of an accent like Zelda's (and no, I am not saying everyone does and I'm also not implying that there aren't people out there who aren't British and know that there are multiple accents). Anyway, English accents are different depending on the place. And, since one can assume Wild is from Hateno Village, I would imagine their accent is different to that of those born in Castle Town. So that's why I was reluctant to give Wild a voice from Black Butler. Because all the voices that weren't insanely fancy were either far too old or did not have the right vibe.
Then one day, taking a break from this, I was watching season 3 of Black Butler (one of the only anime I watch dubbed) and I heard two voices that I suddenly thought, hang on just a second. One of those was the voice of Ronald Knox, who's a grim reaper. And the other, of course, was Dagger. I was leaning towards Dagger and what sold me was one scene in particular, which I chose as the final voice clip for Wild (you cannot tell me that is not exactly something he would say). And that was it. But Wild's was easily one of the most frustrating (not the most *glares at Four again*).
Time - David Matranga (The Father from Wolf Children)
Another tough one and also one I heavily considered for Twilight (for obvious reasons). Time's was kind of tricky because I knew I wanted it to be deep but there's such of variety of deep voices. At one point I even considered dumping the deep voice idea because it was so hard. It was a this time I thought of the voice of space cowboy extraordinaire, Spike Spiegel. But my brain said "hell no". There were other voices I considered for him, loads of which I cannot find the notes for and another one which will likely appear in part two as another character (no spoilers), but when I was picking a voice for Twi, some of the lines the father said just kept ringing big old Time vibes with me. So in the end, I decided to for it. Like I said, I imagine time with a deep voice and while to father's might be a bit more... gravelly (?) than I imagined, I think it fits him pretty well. It's serious and mature but still a certain kindness I'd imagine Time's voice to have.
Warriors - Johnny Yong Bosch (Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach)
Don't lie. You knew Johnny Yong Bosch was gonna be on here and not just because I put his name (albeit spelled incorrectly) in the thumbnail. When I started making this, I knew I wanted to fit JYB into it. In my mind, LU would be an amazing anime and almost all amazing anime have Johnny Yong Bosch in it.
Now, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out whether he would be better for Wars or Twi. At one point I was convinced he would be best for Twi and that's when I briefly thought about Vic Mignoga for Warriors (his voice for Tamaki Suoh from Ouran High School Host Club. Don't tell me Tamaki and Wars aren't at least a tiny bit similar). But I could bear to part with Vic for Legend so I decided heck it, Johnny is Warriors and I'll find someone else for Twi later. As for the voice in particular, the two voices I considered for Twi definitely did not fit Wars. And then I remembered Bleach and immediately I thought "Yep. That's the one". I imagine Warriors having an authoritative voice, not too deep and very... uh... I don't know the right word. Clean sounding? Anyway, Ichigo just seemed to fit nicely and thus it was so.
Four - Micah Solusod (Yukine from Noragamai)
Ugh. UGH. Okay. This is my least favourite. Four was, excuse my French, A FUCKING NIGHTMARES. There was not ONE SINGLE VOICE that seemed to work for him at all. I watched a bit of the Noragmai dub because I was thinking about Yato's voice for someone (I can't remember who. It might have been Wild) and I heard Yukine's and decided to put it into reserve. As in, my last resort. And I had to use it. Oh my god Four. I love you but your voice is literally a nightmare. Is it high? Is it low? Is it young sounding? Surprisingly grown up sounding? I DON'T FREAKING KNOW.
I mentioned earlier that I considered Justin Briner for him. I was thinking about his voice for Luck from Black Clover, which may have honestly worked a bit better, but I was pretty attached to Justin as Roolie by this point. So I had to whip out Micah.
Let me be clear. No, I do not think this works well at all. I appreciate the people who tried to see that good in it, but I honestly just don't think it works. The only reason I went for it is because Yukine's voice switches between older sounding and younger sounding throughout the show and since I could decide what Four's would sound like I said to myself "Fine. Four can be the same", found some clips, slapped it together and never looked back.
I am still looking for another voice for Four and if I find a decent one, I will include it in part two.
And last but not least...
Twilight - Aaron Mitchell Dismuke (Tamaki Amajiki - My Hero Academia)
Told ya there was another BHNA voice.
So Twi was another tricky one. As I mentioned, I was seriously considering Johnny Yong Bosch for him. More specifically, his voices for Giyu Tomioka from Demon Slayer and Kiba from Wolf's Rain (for obvious reasons). I did almost go for Kiba but something was stopping me. I'm honestly not sure what.
So I was talking to a mate (and by that I mean I rambled. A lot) about VA's and at one point he suggested Aaron Mitchell Dismuke but not for Twilight. I can't actually remember who he suggested it for but anyway, that didn't work out. But when I was looking through his work, I saw that we played Amajiki and I was curious. I listened to him and I liked it.
Okay to be fair I wanted a country accent for Twi. Of course I did. But I could not a find a decent one. They few I found were absolutely terrible. So I gave up on that and decided that was Amajiki. And that was that.
And that concludes the Links VA headcanons! I am happy with most of them and once more these are my opinion but I would love to hear your own ideas!
As I have said many times, I am working on a part two and as a sneak peak (sort of) I'll tell you two of the characters that will be featured (excluding Four, if I find him another voice).
Dink (even though he hasn't, technically shown up yet) and Malon (which is proving to be a lot tricker than I thought). There a couple more but my lips are sealed heh.
Oh and speaking of Dink, the voice I considered for Time and then thought it would be better for someone else? Yeah that's the voice that's currently in the lead to be Dink's :)
I hope enjoyed my long winded explanations! And thank you for reading/watching!

Scars That Heal || Eddie Kaspbrak x Reader Series
• Ch. 7: Hush, Hush, Hush •
Tumblr media
The children walk single file as they descended from the brush from where they had escaped, Eddie in the lead, Richie taking up the caboose. Y/n had helped Mike up the rocks, and shortly after found herself in the middle behind him. Mike cast a glance in her direction as well as the others.
"Thanks, guys," He said, redirecting his gaze to the ground. "But you shouldn't have done that, they'll be after you too, now."
Eddie was the first to chime in. "Oh, no, no, no, Bowers? He's always after us."
"I guess that's one t-t-thing we all have in common," Bill added.
"Yeah, homeschool!" Richie chirped. "Welcome to the Losers Club!"
Y/n smiled at the boy's remark, shaking her head lightly. It was then that Y/n was reminded of the fleeting thoughts from the night before that bounced around her tired, foggy brain. And a familiar feeling bubbled back up to the surface along with it; a sense of belonging. Y/n did not have much luck when it came to getting close to people, aside from Beverly of course. Until that day at the quarry, she had never truly felt at home. And now that they had a new member - the last piece of the puzzle - she knew as long as she had them, she would be whole.
In fact, they would never say it aloud, but each and every member of the Losers Club shared these same feelings. That day marked the beginning of a beautiful and powerful bond that would last a lifetime. Each and every one was just as important as the next and if you were to pluck any from the line, they would never quite be the same. Each of the eight children felt immediately at home with one another, a comfort so deep and profound it could quiet any lurking anxieties or fears.
For a short while, no one said anything, just a peaceful ambiance blanketed the atmosphere as they descended the small hill of grass. Each of them could feel the tall green blades brush their legs, and the silence was filled with the low yet loud rumble of the train traveling along the tracks, yards behind them. When they reached the bottom of the small hill, Y/n  scurried up to the front and joined Eddie by his side. Everyone else disperses, scattering amongst one another, Ben silently taking the lead.
"Hey Kaspbrak" Eddie looked to her, a little taken aback but attentive. "I'm counting on you,"
Eddie blushed uncomfortably until he realized what she had been implying. She had been holding her left arm, just below the shoulder, and gestured to it with her eyes. She blushed herself and played it off with a weak laugh.
"My arm?" She wiggled her eyebrows playfully. "If you anyone has a band-aid it's you."
He laughed nervously as well, as he reached into one of his fanny packs, careful to watch his step as he was still walking. He pulled out a bandaid and handed it to her, she smiled in thanks. She wished she could have said she was surprised when he continued to pull supplies out one by one. And she'd be lying if she said she didn't find that a least a little impressive. It reminded her of clowns packed into a clown car. Ugh, she shivered slightly, bad analogy, nevermind.
"Here you go. Also, here's some ointment, it's a special disinfectant - who the fuck knows all the germs that were on that rock, you'll need all the help you can get. I also have gauze, normally I don't carry gauze but since your leg is still pretty bad, I figured I should carry some, just in case. Here you take it, I think I have some more, also, I kept a small wrap of ace bandages, you really need to - wait you have been changing them frequently, right? You always, always change bandages, the bigger the wound the more important it is you change it. Seriously, this is really important because-!"
"BEEP BEEP BEEEP!" Richie shouted suddenly, strolling up and walking between the pair. "Hear that sound, Doctor K? That's the sound of her flat-lining. You took too fucking long, genius, if you were a real doctor she would have bled out on your table already!"
Y/n snickered under her breath, several of the Losers smiled as well. Eddie felt his face grow hot, and he turned angrily to Richie, his face contorted in an angry pout. He was struggling for words, but before he could form a proper sentence, Richie continued.
"Quick tip, Doc, don't talk your patients to death!"
Stan laughed dryly, "Yeah, you're one to talk."
"Hey there, woah, woah, woah!" He threw his arms up in defense. "I'm just givin' the people what they want!"
"Great!" Y/n said excitedly, her face lighting up briefly before falling. "How bout some silence? Beep beep, Richie."
Mike, who had blended into the group so effortlessly and had been silently processing - still adjusting to the group dynamic - laughed suddenly and loudly. Everyone looked to him, taken slightly aback by his sudden, but infectious laugh. And it wasn't long until that laughter spread, everyone had cracked a smile and there was scattered laughter that melted away any previous tension.
By now, Y/n had applied the ointment and the band-aid easily. She handed the tube of disinfectant back to Eddie as well as the gauze.
"Thanks, but the band-aid will do just fine. Luckily, this one is only just a little cut."
Eddie nearly tripped, he had been so lost in thought as he stared anxiously at the gauze outstretched in her hand. He licked his lips nervously, and his eyes flickered to hers. She noted his tentativeness and waited expectantly, but he could hold his tongue no longer, crush or not.
"...Seriously, have you been changing those bandages, you never answered me and I'm sorry but that's disgusting if you haven't changed them cause the wound really needs to air out and if it doesn't you could end up-"
"Christ, Eddie! I've changed them!" Y/n blurted, falling into a small fit of chuckles to show she wasn't truly mad.
He tried to conceal his blush, but he played it off with a vigorous shake of the head and change of topic.
"Hey, where are we going anyway? I can't be out too long or my mom will kill me. One time, I was like, two minutes late for curfew and she had a panic attack."
Ben looked over his shoulder, he had taken the lead and while no one had mentioned it yet, everyone had instinctively followed him.
"Well, I was hoping to show you guys something."
Everyone gave one another an odd, questioning look but they followed Ben into the trees, nevertheless.
×××
Night had fallen the day of the rock fight and another day began. The group of misfits had found themselves in town, where the annual parade was taking place. Wracked with guilt and the unpleasant feeling of being pitied, Y/n was trying to talk Eddie out of buying her the delicious frozen treat she had been ogling. Eddie had noticed the longing in her eyes when she spotted a young child with one of their own, and it was then that he really noticed the effects the sun had on her. Her baggy clothes were sticking to her arms and legs, and he could see beads of sweat percolating above her brow.
Once again, their previous exchange on the fire escape popped into his head and he was reminded once more of how fortunate he was that he could afford such little things he took for granted. The power of suggestion had already gotten to him as well when he saw a frustrated father shoving an ice cream cone at his crying child, and although the sight made him cringe he couldn't quite shake the sudden craving of the sweet treat. Hence their detour to the ice cream cart, he could practically hear Richie ragging on him for getting her something with the audacity to leave him out - What, you skimping out on me now, Eds? - Eddie opted for a vanilla cone for Rich, just to be safe. But none of that stopped Y/n from protesting against it.
"Eddie, you really don't have to do this,"
The young L/n girl looked between the hypochondriac kid and the disgruntled teenager behind the cart, slinging ice cream. Ignoring her protests, he dropped the small pile of coins he had retrieved from his fanny pack onto the metal counter of the cart. The overheated employee slid it towards himself to the end of the counter, plucking the quarters from the surface and handed Eddie two vanilla cones. Eddie gladly took them in each napkin-clad hand - he had already grabbed several napkins so as to not spill or drip anything. Y/n watched defeated, albeit a bit excited, as the young man behind the counter opened another compartment and retrieved the y/f/f popsicle and handed it to her.
She hesitantly took the popsicle, trying her best to mask the ravenous look in her eye.
    "Eddie-"
"Look, it's best you have that anyway, it's supposed to get like, really hot out today so it's best you keep cool or you could be one step closer to heatstroke. And let me tell you, that is not fun, not fun at all! Did you know that-"
A loud burst of noise disrupted their conversation and they turned to see the cause. Richie had gotten his hands on one of the marching bands instruments - a tuba by the looks, and sound of it. The owner of the tuba was angrily reaching for it but Richie managed to keep it out of his reach. His cheeks puffed and his face turned pink as a few short bursts of noise came from the instrument.
Eddie and Y/n shared an amused look and Y/n's eyes fell to the popsicle. She sighed lightly, trying to tame the pit in her stomach that always occurred when she was pitied. Now Y/n appreciated the gesture, she really did. It was awfully sweet of the boy, and she would be lying if she said it didn't make her stomach do a small flip, but all that was easily drowned out by how small she felt. She hated being a charity case, it was bad enough Beverly had basically kept her fed all these years but Y/n reminded herself that their friendship was symbiotic - they each had something to offer the other. But this made her feel like she owed Eddie, and she didn't like that.
The two left the cart and walked along the sidewalk at a steady pace. Nervously, she looked at the boy.
"Eddie, I appreciate it, but I don't want to owe you or anything. I-"
Eddie's face contorted into a confused frown. He chuckled weakly before taking a quick lick of his ice cream. He shook his head.
"You don't owe me! It's just a popsicle, it's no big deal."
Words failed her and she looked at the popsicle tentatively. Eddie noticed this and was scrambling to put out the small fire he had caused.
"Think of it as a favor to me,"
Y/n showed no efforts to hide her confusion. "A favor?"
"Yeah, you stay cool, and I don't have to take care of you when you suffer from heatstroke."
Her frown stayed cemented to her face as she stared at the boy, and Eddie feared his message was lost in translation. For fuck's sake, he didn't mean it like that! Great, now he sounded like a total ass.
Y/n broke out into chuckles and Eddie felt the enormous weight leave his shoulders. He chuckled with her, though they came out more strained and nervous. She shook her head, eyebrows raised.
"Man, you must care if you're willing to make up that load of horse shit." Y/n's tempted eye fell to the popsicle in her hand. "Thanks, shrimp, I appreciate it. But just this one time, okay? I always end up feeling like I owe people whenever they do stuff like this. Even if it's small things, cause a lot of stuff that might seem small to you, are kind of a big deal to me, does that make any sense?"
    Eddie nodded.
"To tell you the truth, I've never tried one before."
Eddie's eyes widened and he looked frantically between her and her dessert.
"You gotta try it! They're really good!"
    Y/n smiled weakly.
"Eddie, I mean it. Do you get what I'm saying?"
Eddie nodded eagerly, his eyes frequently falling to the popsicle.
"I get it, won't happen again. I promise. But seriously, you gotta try it! Really though, before it melts."
Y/n examined the frozen y/f/f pop and noticed the ice was thinning. She shrugged at Eddie and tried the popsicle. Her eyes widened and she gaped at the boy.
    "Holy shit."
Eddie grinned eagerly, and by now the two were approaching Richie.
    "Right?"
"Dammit, Eddie! You really shouldn't have done this, I'm gonna want another one!" She whined, though her voice held a twinge of humor.
She switched the popsicle to the other hand to lick the melted residue that had made it on her fingers. Eddie was quick to supply her with an extra napkin which she thanked him for.
Eddie laughed at her words and he noticed he had caught Richie's eye. More specifically, the extra ice cream cone did. Richie abandoned the tuba and waltzed over to the boy, gladly accepting the treat and the trio found themselves joining the rest of the group just inside the alley. They were all somber, Y/n couldn't help but notice.
"What's wrong?" She asked, drawing all eyes to her. "What are guys talking about?"
"What they always talk about," Richie said simply.
"I actually think it will end," Ben said, ignoring the interruption. "For a little while, at least."
"What do you mean?" Mike asked.
"So I was going over all my Derry research and I charted out all the big events. The Ironworks explosion in 1908, the Bradley Gang in '35, and the Black Spot in '62. And now kids being... I realized this stuff seems to happen-"
"Every 27 years," Bill and Ben finished.
Y/n looked up from her frozen pop and licked her lips, for some reason feeling silly for enjoying such a thing during this discussion. She found her stomach was twisted in knots, though at least, she thought, Eddie was right. She was feeling cooled down. But none of that seemed to matter now. Like it was all a matter of time before all of these fleeting feelings, these little moments, were being packed and stored away for a long time. It was a strange feeling that she couldn't quite identify, a feeling each of the Losers Club was experiencing: that while everyone around them was laughing and playing, enjoying the blissful moments of summer, they themselves each felt as if they were enjoying their last day on earth.
×××
"So let me get this straight," Eddie began, fingers drumming nervously on his right knee. "It comes out from wherever to eat kids for, like, a year? And then what? It just goes into hibernation?"
The Losers found themselves in the park, frozen treats long gone, the pits in their stomachs however still very much present. Bev, Stan, Mike, and Ben were splayed put on the bench, backs to the infamous statue of Paul Bunyan. Richie sat on his parked bike, unfortunate enough to be facing said statue - he never said it but the thing always creeped him out, just something about it. Bill and Eddie each found a seat of their own on the long back of Silver and Y/n laid in the grass before them in between the two bikes. She was propping herself up with her arms and legs splayed out before her. Her leg was healing fast but she didn't want to risk sitting on it and making it worse.
So here the Losers sat, lost in discussion and despite the hot weather, there was a chill in the air that only these eight misfits could feel. Looming over them, watching them, much like It did their own town.
"Maybe, it's like-- What do you call it?" Stan paused, searching for the word. "Cicadas. You know, the bug that only comes out once every seventeen years."
"My grandfather thinks this town is cursed," Mike said. "He says that all the bad things that happen in this town are because of one thing. An evil thing that feeds off the people of Derry."
    An evil thing.
The three words that lurked in the back of Y/n's mind all her life. She could feel herself falling back into the pit, the black hole that swallowed her up every time she thought of the looming threat. She could feel herself disconnecting from the world again, watching herself being ripped away from this moment in time and tossed back to that awful night, though she could still hear the worried voices of her friends speaking. Completely unaware of her state of mind. The words were fuzzy and distant, background noise as she felt herself being transported to that day.
"I ain't got much time left, but at least I'm safer than you. I'm old, I've lived my life but you? Well, you're closer to death's door than I am."
"But it can't be one thing. We all saw something different." Stan said, his voice now began to fade out.
The voices were now blending together as memories of her past became her present reality.
"Cause this town, I tell you, this town... There's an evil, evil thing in this world," the man said.
She could hear her younger self whimper in fear, her own voice was squeaky and very frightened. The old voice continued, it shook with fear and the terror was as ripe as his memory, like only seconds had passed, not decades.
"monsters are all too real my child, I've seen 'em with my own two eyes."
Mike's voice found a way through her skull, echoing softly as all the details of the day she worked so hard to forget, came flooding back.
"Maybe. Or maybe it knows what scares us most and that's what we see."
"The Devil himself lives here, right here in this very shit hole and I've waited a very long time for this moment; to be free."
There was a moment of tension-filled silence as the young h/c girl looked up at the slouching figure. The girl clutches her teddy bear tightly to her chest - the sad old thing nearly worn down to threads - tears pooling in her e/c eyes as she stares on in horror at the distant relative. Old and senile he was, why her mother brought her here she didn't know. Y/n would later figure out that it was a final visit of sorts. A last chance to meet some of her family. And while her mother stepped out of the room to retrieve a simple glass of water for the man, he turned unexpectedly to his grandniece and imparted the words she would never forget.
"He's in your closet, under your bed. He's everywhere, always, watchin' you. Waiting for the right moment to snatch you up. And he will get you. He always gets you... he got her, I told her not to go, but she was adventurous you see, much like you kids are these days, and mother didn't like that and she always told us; 'you mind yourself or I'll tell him. I'll tell him...'"
The old man's glossy eyes drifted away, his voice trailing as he was lost in the memory; reliving it all over again.
"Tell who? Who is he?" The young girl asked tearfully?"
He broke from his trance and he looked at her with cold and fearful eyes.
"The Boogeyman." Y/n croaked, breaking from her stupor.
The Losers all looked to their friend in the grass. The color was drained from her [s/c] skin, and her eyes were distant and glassy. Her left leg had inched gradually up and was now clutched tightly against her chest protectively. Seven pairs of eyes were now fixed on her and she gulped.
"My great uncle Henry, I only met him once when I was about five or six, but he- he told me about how he saw the Boogeyman. Not much else, but the way he described It... I don't know, it always stuck with me. I've been afraid of It ever since and then-" Her eyes met Beverly's and she knew she had connected the dots.
    "Your ankle." She finished.
Y/n nodded. She shifted in the grass uncomfortably before looking around at her friends. Some of them confused, others connecting dots of their own, but still intrigued and listening.
"When school got out, Bev slept over." Y/n began, filling in Mike especially. "We both fell asleep with the TV on, it woke me up so I got up to turn it off, and then, just as I started to drift off I felt Bev pull on my leg several times. But, I woke up and realized she was fast asleep."
She shook her head, trying to rid herself of the nerves that came crawling back even now. She fixed her eyes on the grass below her, and her fingers worked themselves into the ground. Y/n began fiddling with eh blades of grass, twirling them and ripping some from the ground as she continued.
"Next thing I know, It's pulling me across the carpet and my leg is torn to shreds. It looked like what I always imagined the Boogeyman to be, but... but it also looked like-"
    "A clown."
She had to turn her body slightly to look at Eddie, but she nodded, confirming everyone's suspicions from the day before.
"Yeah, I saw a clown too. But It was also a leper." Eddie saw the confused looks scattered across his friends. "He was like a walking infection."
Eddie felt himself fighting his bodily instincts to vomit, still repulsed by the vivid memory. Stan, who had been squirming in his seat the entire exchange, fought desperately to deny the gory truth that lay before them. Trying to convince everyone, himself especially, that this thing couldn't exist. Cause if It did, it would be all too terrible.
"But you didn't," his voice trembled. "Because It isn't real. None of this is. Not Eddie's leper. Or Bill seeing Georgie, or-or woman I keep seeing." His voice broke, he looked down at his feet and the others knew.
He was trying to convince himself.
"She hot?" Richie asked with a half-smirk.
Stan gave Richie an incredulous look, and his voice rose.
"No Richie! She's not hot! Her face is all messed up. None of this makes any sense. They're all like bad dreams."
Mike spoke up, unable to tiptoe around him any longer.
"I don't think so. I know the difference between a bad dream, and real life, okay? Besides, look at Y/n's leg! How do you explain that?"
Y/n gave Mike a thankful nod, and Eddie asked the question she had at the end of her tongue.
"What'd you see? You saw something, too?"
"Yes," Mike answered somberly, and he took a deep breath. "Do you guys know that burned-down house on Harris Avenue?"
Y/n nodded, encouraging Mike to continue.
"I was inside when it burned down." Mike began fiddling with his hands nervously, and Bill could feel his heartache. "Before I was rescued, my mom and dad were trapped in the next room over from me. They were... pushing and pounding on the door, trying to get to me."
Mike's voice broke and he fought hard against the tears that threatened to spill. His heart was breaking in two all over again, he rarely spoke of the incident, always much too saddened by it and each time he did he could hear their frightened screams and the scratches against the door.
"trying to get to me." There was a pause, and Mike swallowed the swollen lump in his throat. "But it was too hot. When the firemen finally found them, the skin on their hands had melted down to the bone."
"Mike," Y/n felt at a loss for words, but all she could manage was a simple few. "I'm so sorry."
He shrugged, and everyone could tell he was already beginning to rebury the memory.
    "We're all afraid of something."
"You got that right." Richie quipped.
Everyone looked to the boy and Y/n asked gently.
"What about you, Rich? What are you afraid of?"
His eyes flickered to Eddie against his will, and he ignored the spike in his heart rate when he did so. Everyone was staring at him now and he gulped, looking over his shoulder to see a clown on the stage across the field, staring at him. He returned his gaze to the group, and swallowed nervously, adjusting his bulky glasses.
    "Clowns."

I, for one, think that Noelle's "Adora is a Slytherin" is a valid take. We're just looking at it from a wrong angle. May I offer you my take:
First of all, yes, I also headcanoned her as a Gryffindor prior to yesterday's evening (time zones), but I'm very curious to see where Noelle is coming from. Because "i said it once at the con wrong and it keeps bugging me so here have the right version" implies that she gave it a lot of thought actually, and saw it as important to clarify.
Now, I don't think it's right to look at this whole thing solely from the viewpoint of "typical qualities of the house".
I mean, the world of Harry Potter itself encourages us not to do that. While not even touching on obvious example of Hermione who in-universe is read by other characters as "You're such a Ravenclaw why aren't you there", because she's proven time and again that she is Gryffindor to a fault - there's also an example of Neville, who seemed foreign to his house at the beginning, but grew into its definition beautifully with time. And then there's Pettigrew, who actually never did grow into that definition. Look at him and his character's arc. Would you just look at him at face value and guess where he was sorted in?
In the "Hogwarts Mystery" game we're also given an example of Barnaby Lee, a Slytherin who's basically a giant naive teddy bear, excited for friendship and being treated with kindness, always ready to throw hands for his friends and is, like, a counter-definition of cunning. He and Scorpia could be the best of buddies at this rate, honestly. And yet - a Slytherin. And right in the same game is Ben Copper, a Gryffindor who's framed as the biggest damn coward.
Back to Adora's case - the line between Gryffindor and Slytherin is actually much more blurred than we like to pretend. (That's coming from a self-proclaimed Gryffindor who used to hate Slytherin as a child on sole basis of Draco Malfoy).
And the best example, I think, is Harry himself. You know, the whole "Not into Slytherin!" dillema? One can argue that it was the horcrux ((i hope i spell that right i didn't read hp in english really uuugh)) influencing the Sorting Hat, but then if you look at the scene itself - Sorting Hat is listing "courage, not a bad mind, and lots of talent" before starting to think where to put Harry (fits Adora? I think it does. The "mind" part, too - she might be a "dumb jock" but she's not like actually dumb). And when presented with "not into Slytherin" plea it just asks "are you sure? it could help you achieve greatness" and only when receiving no active interest in that - sends Harry to Gryffindor.
Now, are Adora's ambitions to be great a result of SW's A+ parenting and then a crushing pressure of world-fixing destiny? Yes, of course (thanks a lot for fucking up a perfectly good child look at her she has anxiety). But - I do also believe that those seeds fell on a right soil. Adora is competitive by nature. I mean I don't believe that comes from just the Horde upbringing (look at Kyle. Look at Scorpia, even). I mean mundane things. Like, look at her and Huntara. There's no real point (not for destiny, not for personal hierarchy, Huntara does not threaten Adora's actual status in the slightest) for Adora to be so hellbent on beating Huntara in running (and eating sand) other than her knee-jerk reaction to being underestimated being "UH-HUH, RIGHT".
Plus, Adora loves being loved by people around. Whichhh also comes from inner issues and anxiety, but still - freaking look at her showing off in front of Plumeria as She-Ra because "people love me better as She-Ra". Yes, that comes from her belief that people don't love her as Adora, but she also clearly loves the attention - until it becomes overwhelming, of course. Which comes out again with the whole "ME CAKE" episode. (Also - fucking good for her, girl terribly needs some love). I can see a Slytherin in that. If we, like, throw away all the negative associations.
(Also let's not forget that brief moment in the fake reality where for a short moment Adora believed everything was as it should be and she clearly enjoyed intimidating the hell of that soldier who confronted Catra. "oh force captain, please don't hurt me!")
Plus, to me (to me) a Gryffindor is someone who much easier goes "okay yeah fuck the plan for my friends" and Adora is notorious for letting the things she has to do cloud her vision and not hearing what her friends are actually telling her. Which is not her fault per say, but definitely a prominent trait.
As for the "cunning" aspect - well, to quote Noelle herself, Crabbe and Goyle are also Slytherins, "so the bar can't be that high". Same for Barnaby, mentioned above.
THE POINT IS - There is a take on Hogwarts houses that basically goes like "it's not your most prominent qualities, it's what you value/desire most". Which makes sence, because there are people who are brave AND smart AND ambitious AND loyal, etc. We're not all easily separated into four categories.
However, Pettigrew admired bravery in his friends, even if he himself wasn't a model Gryffindor. Neville probably dreamed of being stronger. Same goes for Ben. What led them to Gryffindor wasn't their bravery (or just their bravery), but their desire to be brave.
What led Crabbe and Goyle and a sweetheart Barnaby to Slytherin wasn't their ability to be the best or cunning or whatever, but their desire to be that way (planted in them by their families, no doubt).
And when it comes to Adora - she is already brave, she knows she's a capable soldier, but she's conditioned by her upbringing to strive to be the best - and that's the part of herself she believes she's lacking (especially later as She-Ra).
Would she say "no" if Sorting Hat offered her an option of "the House that will make you great" if she wasn't told that Slytherin is "bad" as Harry was, but was raised by SW as she is? Would she?
(This angle also explains Hufflepuff Catra imo, since we already established that power and greatness aren't what she really wants or ever wanted. She pretended to want that. She pretended to "be a Slytherin". She values loyalty, she values love, she wants her actual hard work to be acknowledged, she covers for Adora and Scorpia before SW and Hordak. She's a Hufflepuff.)
Anyway, just my take on this controversy Noelle shocked us all by :D

"Give me a character and I will answer"
@callmehername asked me about Ben Solo/Kylo Ren.
(My answers to the other characters are here)
Why I like them
It is hard to talk about this character when I know so little about him, since he's very new compared to all the others. So be kind if I make assumptions bc it's mostly what we can do for now, I think. For me at least, to take what we canonically know about him for sure doesn't leave much to choose, so I'm doing my own thing a bit 🤷🏻‍♀️
Having said this:
Basically, I like him bc he's complex. He's conflicted, but that's something we've seen before. He's also unstable tho. Really unstable.
But I also like him because I feel like I have a hard time reading him. Like, we know he's unstable, but... Are his actions those of a conflicted (and traumatized and probably brainwashed) child grown up? Or not really? I mostly get the feeling he could be very determined and manipulative under that confused look. That he knows exactly what he's doing even if he looks like a mess with temper tantrums. That he's conflicted and he knows people know that, so he uses that as a disguise, like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Or maybe it isn't that at all. Maybe he's THAT misguided. I guess we'll have to wait for Episode IX to find out more, but for now I like that he keeps me guessing.
Then there is also the fact that troughout the Episodes, we are repeatedly told by the Jedi that one must resist the Dark Side. It is easy to fall and once you do, it forever will dominate your destiny. And I think it's fascinating how Kylo is permanently fighting to stay in it. For someone to show such a struggle with the Dark Side, it could mean an increadibly strong alignment to the Light and/or that he was pushed into the darkness by someone without his consent (hello Snoke) probably by means of an idea in his mind. An idea that was wrong all along: what Vader was supposed to be like. What he was supposed to be too. So he's holding onto the darkness on sheer determination to be that. (Which I find to be very ironic bc if you read my opinion on Anakin I always thought he was conflicted all along, Vader as well. Maybe not just like Ben, but he wasn't like Sheev, that kind of pure evil that Ben seems to think he was.)
To me it all goes down to: would he struggle as much to stay in the Light as he struggles to be in the Dark? How much of it was Snoke's doing? Walking the fine line between the Light and the Dark would make him even more interesting as a character. And it also brings something into the table that I've been waiting for many, many years: actual force balance/the Grey/etc.
So, essentially, what I love the most about his character is all the possibilities he brings to the table and the fact that he's not just a villian, not just a [insert other classic character tropes here].
(I could say the same about Rey in a way, since they are two sides of the same coin. But also not quite the same. And also I'm not here to talk about Rey haha)
Why I don’t
To me it makes no sense his name is Ben unless there's something I missed. I'm still waiting for an explanation that makes it fitting.
(oh and also he's supposed to be 29 and he doesn't feel like it to me? and sometimes I feel confused? lol idk how to explain it bc I don't really know what bugs me, but something feels off 🤷🏻‍♀️ but that's about it, no big deal at all haha)
Favorite episode (scene if movie)
Easy. When he kills Snoke in The Last Jedi. More like, how he does it. I'm a huge fan of the whole deception he plays on him.
And let me say I think he might have had it planned all along when he took that look at the guards while being in the room that time before 👀
Favorite season/movie
IDK AAAAH
Maybe it's the one to come?
No, seriously. I really don't know. I have no preference atm.
If I must choose based on him aesthetically tho, then I'm choosing The Force Awakens! TFA hair AAAAALL THE WAY:

Favorite line
"Forgive me. I feel it again... The pull to the Light."
I just love it.
Favorite outfit
I believe he's only had one?

One very much on point tho👌🏻
OTP
I don't ship him romantically atm 🤔
BROTP
OMG ALSO NO BROTPs?! I JUST DON'T SHIP HIM AT ALL. I REALLY BOUGHT THE SPACE EMO KID THING HE'S SELLING 🤣
Head Canon
He understands Wookie like it's his mother tongue.
He and Chewie used to play when he was a kid. It was like having a huge (and alive) teddy bear friend to play with. They would do mechanics together and later some piloting maybe?
💔
(OK, MAYBE I WANTED HIM AND CHEWIE AS BROTP BUT IT'S NOT POSSIBLE ANYMORE, HE KILLED HAN FFS AAAAHHH😭😭😭)
Unpopular opinion
The anti's are not morally superior, they are just haters and bullies.
First of all, acting as if Kylo Ren was the devil is non-sense in GFFA. He's not that bad if you compared to so many others lol He's no saint, but why would he have to be? And even if it was denying someone a redemption before he can even claim it or whatever is really, really shitty. So there's no hope then for people to improve? Shouldn't they be encouraged to get better specially if they have been wrong and hurt others? Not discouraged? What kind of shit is that.
And second, shipping him with Rey or whoever is fine even if it was unhealthy. I have seen a million unhealthy ships (some in GFFA too) and no one ever made a big deal because it is no big deal. And this one should be no different. You just want an excuse to hate. Besides, many shippers actually ship them in AUs. So it's not necessarily an unhealthy ship. But in case it was, it's none of your business. And certainly no one deserves the shitty treatment these people give to the shippers. And on top of all of that, I find disgusting that they use something as detrimental as abusive relationships as an excuse to be bullying other fans. WHICH IS ABUSIVE TOO, HELLO. To use your (supposedly) superior morals as the reason to be rightfully allowed to discriminate others is by definition abusive behaviour. And this is real life, not some fictional character's. Really, really ugly shit smh
#RANTOVER.
A wish
I hope they don't play the classic redemption arc and stick to the simple usual light vs. darkness thing. Give something more complex, something good, something different. GIVE SOMETHING INSPIRING.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen
I don't think Reylo is a good idea in canon, like, there being romantically involvement in the movie.
Not bc of the relationship itself. Although I would prefer none of it, I don't know what they are planning and I don't think I know better than the creators, so it could probably be done right in some way if that's really the plan. And who knows, maybe I would enjoy it(?) Butr my taste, the balance of the force should be the plot and I feel this, even as a sub-plot, would overshadow it. So it's a no for me atm.
Also imagine all the haters backlash if it happened... Look, idk if I have enough patience for another TLJ 😱
(SEE? HATERS ARE WHY THERE IS NO FREEDOM OF WRITING ANYMOREok I try to chill nowBUT SERIOUSLY STOP THE FLAME WARSi want an overall happy fandom why can't we have it)
5 words to best describe them
Lonely. Misunderstood. Overpowered. Unstable. Capable.
My nickname for them
Kylo is fine haha I don't think I ever call him Ben (by now you know I don't much like him being called that)
I fail at the nickname thing, I really have no nicknames for any of them! Ok maybe space emo prince 👀 😂

😂 🗑 🤡🖊
Thanks!^^
Under the cut because I wrote so much...
😂 What’s the funniest comment someone has left on a fic of yours?
Oh dear XD I'm a bit ashamed of myself that I couldn't think of it off the top of my head and had to scroll through my fics on AO3!!
Not the funniest comment but the funniest comments that I received are for a parody fanfic about Ciel and Sebastian I wrote years ago. Back then, I still read a lot of fanfiction, and scrolling through AO3 and looking for something to read left me so pissed one day that I wrote that FF on my itsy bitsy old phone with no autocorrect and my terrible phone typing skills. I had seen a story like that (roughly the same plot, no paragraphs, bad grammar) right before with quite a lot of kudos and raving comments and modelled mine on that. (Whereas an actually well-written fic I had found before barely had any comments and kudos :/)
The comments on that parody fic are so much fun, especially the ones by the butthurt people who didn't even have the guts to comment off-anon^^ (their reading comprehension is terrible too)
🗑 What is one fic idea that you loved at first but then scrapped?
Ah, welcome to the graveyard of ideas XD
One? Have multiple XD
A Monsters of Verity AU (it's a book duology, I recommend!) where Grim Reapers are the fourth group of monsters alongside the Sunai/Corsai/Malchai from the books; I renamed the GR to fit with the naming scheme. They're similar to the Sunai, but (you know) collect the souls of the dead instead of stealing the souls of the living. GR, like the Sunai, also use instruments instead of gardening tools for this! The story would start with Phantomhive Manor being raided in 1838, with UT being there to collect the souls and Cloudia being the sole survivor (but permanently injured). Anyway, I didn't get far with my notes and building for this but wrote the prologue.
A Modern AU about Cloudia enrolling Vincent and Francis in the now co-ed Weston College. Vincent is very unhappy about this and does his best to be expelled. And how can he make sure that he will be expelled? By driving a fellow student (Diedrich) crazy! I wrote two chapters and have a handful of notes.
A Descendants AU with Ciel as Mal and Lizzie as Ben which I completely outlined. Quotes/backstory/chapter titles/what happens/distribution of the songs - I did it all XD That was before the release of the 3rd movie, so nothing of that was included - but my 3rd act was also about a sleeping curse which made me very happy^^ Anyway, I wrote one chapter and started the second.
A row of WotQ bonus AUs (yes, AUs of the AU, uffff). One of them was based on The Selection book series with Cloudia as the princess who's having her Selection and Undertaker as one of the chosen candidates! I wrote the first chapter.
Etc. Etc.
They were all scrapped because of a mix of "shit, that's so dumb"/"no time to write this"/"not enough ideas"/"I hate how I wrote the start".
🤡 What’s the dumbest thing you’ve written?
Everything I write is a bit dumb? Also: A few years ago, I needed to write something that wasn't WotQ for a change, so I came up with a stupid fic idea (Kuro fic about... sushi) and ran with it. I had fun writing the first two chapters (started the third). They were even up on AO3 for a VERY short period of time so that it was "fully out of my system". (I deleted it because it was super stupid and I didn't want to continue anyway. It was deleted at 0 hits which I was/am very relieved about XD)
And the parody fanfic, of course!
🖊 What is the most recent line you’ve written?
He wondered if Vincent was already up or not.
