PLEASE ramble about Xinyan, Beidou, and Kazuha I’m begging you I’m kissing your ring
Tumblr media
OKAY HERE I GO!!!
Most of these are self-indulgent while some have some canon backing but regardless, enjoy the brain worms!!'
Spoilers for Summer Fantasia!
Beidou taught Xinyan how to wield a claymore. (Their normal attack pattern is the same except for Beidou's last kick) *
Beidou took Xinyan in because she sees parts of her younger self in Xinyan. *
Beidou is the tallest among the three, followed by Xinyan and then Kazuha. Secretly, Beidou's a bit worried that Xinyan might grow taller than her when her final growth spurt hits (because it'd mean she wouldn't be able to noogie Xinyan as easily.)
Beidou fully expects Kazuha to simply up and leave the Crux sometime soon to see the world (check her voice lines) but Kazuha has unconsciously made it his home/safe place and will find his way back to the Alcor no matter how far he travels. (At the end of his domain, Kazuha's childhood table and bonsai were aboard the Alcor.) So, need to worry about him leaving anytime soon, Beidou!
Kazuha and Xinyan have accidentally more or less become Beidou's protégées but she knows that the two of them have their own passions to follow and wish to see the world so has no plans of coaxing them into that role and making them stay with the crux. However, whether it be at the end of a tiring day or a long journey the both of them are welcomed back aboard the Alcor. Beidou hopes that the Alcor (and her) is the one place they can come back to without hesitation.
Beidou isn't a eyepatch collecter like a certain other captain but she has a very special one that she holds dear. It looks similar to her regular ones but has flames embroidered on it at the part where the string attaches. Xinyan had sewed it back up when it tore while battling a sea foe and Beidou's kept it in her collection of personal treasures ever since.
When Xinyan was younger and still lived with her parents, she used to run aboard Beidou's ship if she could when things got too much or she didn't have the energy to smile at her problems. There, she either seamlessly started working with the crew to take her mind off things or sang to a small bunch of sailors. Whenever Beidou noticed the tiredness in her eyes despite her peppy voice she used to drop everything she was doing and sit beside Xinyan to hear her sing. Even though Beidou didn't understand her music, she used to pay close attention to the lyrics and give her input according, even telling Xinyan stories from her voyages, hoping that they'd inspire her to write more songs.
It's not very often, but now and then when Kazuha feels particularly melancholic, he requests Beidou to spar with him, both to keep his blade sharp and because the electro that buzzes throughout reminds him of his homeland and dear friend.
Both Kazuha and Xinyan have accidentally called Beidou mom at least once.
Beidou and Xinyan once dragged Kazuha to one of Beidou's after-voyage parties at the Wanmin restaurant, though he enjoyed the meal he almost teared up red faced because of how spicy the two ladies liked their dishes. Now, every so often he takes his food just a bit spicier in hopes of developing his palate.
On voyages, Kazuha spends most of his time in the Crow's nest reading the winds or places where there is just the right amount of sun and shade. Xinyan on the other hand, spends her time on the deck chatting, singing or doing the heavy lifting. Beidou makes sure to check on the both of them for time to time and gives them a light-hearted yet stern sounding talk if they slack off too much.
It was just Xinyan before, but at one point even Kazuha became aware of just how often Beidou goes up the Jade chamber for "Just a game of chess" despite publicly hating on the Tianquan. Now the two of them will gang up to tease her about it.
When Kazuha saw Ningguang in person for the first time he genuinely wondered if how similar they looked had something to do with Beidou taking him in so readily.
Many a time the Millilth have tried to escort Kazuha back to the port thinking he was just a tourist under the Crux's protection who had accidentally wandered too far out in the desolate parts of Liyue. Beidou had to put up a notice with Kazuha's face reading "IF LOST DO NOT RETURN HIM TO BEIDOU!!! HE CAN MAKE HIS WAY BACK JUST FINE"
Being trained by none other than Beidou, Xinyan is very VERY strong physically. Beidou has asked her to take part in the crux clash repeatedly in order to humble some contestants but Xinyan always flusters and says that it's not really her area of expertise.
On their impromptu inspiration tour, Xinyan and Kazuha run into Tartaglia on Dragonspine. Xinyan's happiness is unbound after meeting dear Red after so long and asks Tart to tell her stories from his travels while they rest around a brazier, to which he obliges. Tartaglia (on Big Brother mode) offers to "rough that guy Kazuha up a bit just in case" to which Xinyan declines.
While song-writing together, Xinyan recalls all the Fisherman shanties Beidou used to sing. If it weren't coming from Xinyan, Kazuha would find the information of Beidou singing highly doubtful.
During their travels, there was at least one time that Xinyan genuinely forgot Kazuha could do his E skill and instead hoisted him up on her shoulders so that they could get over a ledge or scale a boulder.
Kazuha and Xinyan both have burn scars on their left hands and have shared the story of how they got it with each other. Kazuha got his from his friend's vision and Xinyan from an accident from the time she tried to imbue fire in her performances (before obtaining a pyro vision)
"Xinyan gives the best hugs. There is simply no competition." - Kazuha, Yun Jin, Xiangling, and Fischl.
Xinyan had once asked Kazuha what language the wind speaks to which his mind completely drew a blank.
Kazuha regrets that Xinyan had to spend most of her time in Inazuma fighting. He’s promised her that if they ever get the chance, he’d give her a proper tour of his homeland and show her everything that it has to offer.
When Xinyan performed atop her island at the GAA, a certain green-clad bard was heard playing the most peculiar tune outside cattails'. His usual listeners applauded the new and refreshing song while some with exceptionally keen ears commented that it sounded like half a melody, missing a piece. To which the bard simply replied that his partner had played along with him from elsewhere, and if they had strained their ears a bit, they could've heard her part of the song riding along the winds.*

some studies in revolution
Hello! This is a sideblog dedicated to history and theory of revolutions: what they are, how they're made, what happens when they succeed and fail. It is probably going to be made up of analysis and quotes and is intended to kind of "keep me honest" about doing some actual intellectual work in the midst of life's drudgery. I also think that my grounding in revolutionary theory is personally inadequate and I want to correct that.
To start out, it's been a long time since I was actively reading academic history, and I learn history best from listening and taking notes; only reading makes it less "sticky" in my memory. So I'm initially going to use Mike Duncan's Revolutions podcast as a means of marking my progress and giving some focus to the project, as well as providing a baseline to build notes on which can then be supplemented through more rigorous academic histories.
In tandem with each subject, I plan to read some primary and secondary sources, including relevant writings in revolutionary theory (both from revolutionaries, i.e. Lenin/Fanon/Robespierre/etc., and from academic sociologists or historians, i.e. Skocpol, Barrington Moore, Eric Wolf). Eventually I'll run out of Duncan, so if anyone has other similar podcasts or some lecture series that they think would be useful - especially for historical events after the Russian Revolution - please let me know! Reading recs are also always welcome.
As far as what I'm hoping to cover, I'm going to do something non-chronological and relatively free-form. I definitely want to cover the following:
English Civil War
French Revolution
Haitian Revolution
Mexican Revolution
Russian Revolution(s)
Chinese Revolution
Cuban Revolution
Algerian War of Independence
Iranian Revolution
This is definitely passing over some notable ones but I'm not foreclosing coverage of any particular thing by way of making this list, just kind of giving an indicator of where I'm at right now. I also have some historical interests I'd like to spend more time learning and talking about, like certain Roman revolts (Catiline did nothing wrong) and the German Peasants' War. So maybe after France or Haiti I'll get a wild hair to do a write-up on Thomas Muntzer, or Easter Rising, or Spanish anarchism. I want my focus to mainly be on the seizure of power, and what was done with power once seized, but I'd also like to explore failures, losses, and short-term experiments. I'm most likely going to start with the French Revolution and then possibly double back to the English Civil War when I have some time, and then we'll just see what happens. I will also probably not be doing a ton of military history though I won't avoid it where relevant; it's frequently just not enjoyable for me to talk about in detail. Very much approaching these things from the social/political history angle as much as I can.
If you choose to follow along with this personal project, please feel free to chime in as I hope this can lead to some interesting conversations with other people who care about topics like political radicalism, comparative history, political theory, etc. Who knows what life will bring, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to keep this going for a while.
I may also change the name but I needed something and I thought this was funny.

I'm back bitches
We have 12 days left of September, which means Spooky Month officially starts soon & you know what that means.
🌕 Kinktober 2023 Creature Feature 🌕
But it also means that the long overdue sequel to Did You Hear That? is coming! She's a hefty girl with just over 18k words so desktop may be the best option to read and reblog as mobile has issues with anything over 10k.
It also means, the three spin-off pieces for the Library of Illusion are coming as well as a little piece I've written for Joshua. All in time for Spooky Month!
Along with Kinktober I have a few announcements. See more under the cut!
First, I have made the decision to add NCT (all sub-units), Day6, Super Junior, & Wonho to my archive. I no longer feel inspiration to write for them and do not want anyone waiting for content for them. I hate to leave Day6's Creature Feature unfinished but, sometimes that's the way things happen. This decision is final but I reserve the right to change my mind at any time.
From now on, I will be writing exclusively for Seventeen, Stray Kids, Ateez, & TXT. My rules for Kai (TXT) remain the same: absolutely no smut. That is my son. My child. I will also only write for Yesung and Z.Tao when the inspiration comes. My brainrot for both of those men is insane.
In addition, as my masterlists for these groups continue to grow, I will be creating masterlists for individual members.
That being said, I obviously won't take down any of my posts for these new archived groups, but I will change the masterlists just a bit so navigation is a tad easier.
Second, I will start using my other blogs effective immediately. I have a lot of sideblogs.
I will be using my main to reblog everything but my writing. All pictures, gifsets, etc will be posted there from now on.
I will also be using my recs blog, which I plan to redo entirely with a new tag system.
Third, I want to remind you all that my inbox here is always open. I love receiving mail. I love talking & interacting with you.
The anon feature is on so feel free to use it however, if you use it for hate, I will turn it off again. Don't be a coward. If you're gonna be mean, don't hide behind the anon feature. Face me instead.
Fourth, I will be reviving ask games and I encourage you to participate! It can be a lot of fun.
On the topic of asks, all asks not related to ask games will be answered every Monday and tagged as ' mailbox monday 💌'
Lastly, a friendly (and not so friendly reminder respectively) that empty blogs, meaning blogs without headers, pfp, posts, etc will be soft-blocked.
Soft-blocking is blocking and unblocking a blog so it forces them to unfollow you. I will be keeping track of the blogs I soft-block in a Google Sheet and if you follow me again without at least changing your pic and reblogging a few posts, you will be hard blocked.
Hard blocking means you will not be able to interact with my content (liking or reblogging).
Now for the not so friendly reminder;
if your blog does not have an age indicator on it (i.e the year you were born, your age, etc) YOU WILL BE SOFT-BLOCKED AS WELL. IF YOU DO NOT ADD AN AGE AFTER THAT, YOU WILL BE HARD BLOCKED. I will also be keeping track of these blogs. Ageless blogs and minors are not welcome on my blog. If you have turned 18 this year, PLEASE CHANGE YOUR AGE INDICATORS ON YOUR BLOG TO AVOID BEING BLOCKED.
If I find out a follower has lied about their age, I will be adding you to a blacklist I share with Cult of Dionysus. Keep in mind, we do not seek out minors to add them to the list, we only add minors that have interacted with our nsfw content. MINORS: PLEASE DONT IGNORE OUR BOUNDARIES. If we say do not interact with our content, we mean it. We have these boundaries for a reason.
I hope you look forward to what I have planned this month and please enjoy the spooks, the thrills, and of course, the smut. Thank you for your continued support as always. See you soon~ ʕ ◦`꒳´◦ʔ — booki。

Writing Sideblog
I go by Byrd for short. I'm an intersex autistic trans man, I use it/he pronouns (unless it's funnier or gayer not to), I'm plural, and I'm over 18. I'm also an ex-mormon. Do not fucking proselytize any fucking religion at me. You will be blocked.
I mostly reblog about random shit, but sometimes I'll make original posts and/or respond with my take on a situation - those should be mostly tagged as #byrd chirps.
My exmo tag is #byrd is an exmo. Sometimes, my moot @twiggyfrogblog sends me birds, sometimes other people do too, so if you're looking for fantastic bird posts, the tags #byrd's birds and #ty twiggy! should take you there. Ask games are tagged #byrd's ask games. Transparent gifs are tagged as both #transparent gif and #transparent gifs.
I also have some new tags - #byrd's silly art, which is for my artwork (currently just me tracing photographs to try and wrap my head around concepts like shapes and shading), and #byrd's writing, which is how I tag any posts about my writing.
I am currently writing a fanfic - I've started to try and tag that as #stt and #byrd's silly little fanfic - once someone finds the fic on AO3, I'll put a link in here.
Some of my posts/reblogs contain triggering/heavy/nsfw topics. I do my best to tag these, but I'm not perfect. Let me know if I miss anything. I don't generally tag swearing, and I do use the word queer as a self-identifier unapologetically.
I have a few sideblogs - some of which are currently inactive. I won't link them here - see if you can find them!
I'm friends with Kea, a writer who distributes his work under a pseudonym, and I have his permission to post his writing. Here is my favorite of his, The Model and The Letter.
Lots of links below the cut, including resources and ask games.

In addition, I really enjoy helping to name things like fictional characters and whatnot. I have a method that I use that creates original names with meaning - it's not foolproof, but I've come up with some great names through it.
If you need help naming someone/something, feel free to send in an ask at least giving me a few words you'd like associated with the thing - more information is better, though! There's no cost, either - it's a fun exercise in creativity on my end. These will be tagged as #byrd's name game.

Hi! I've stumbled upon your "Determination, determinism and quantum mechanics" post while researching the topic of sans in connection to quantum mechanics, and I thought your post was pretty good. if you've written anything else on that subject i'd be interested in reading it (i think i found some just by searching your blog, but yanno how tumblr's search function is) and it'd be nice if you could point me in the right direction (but I'll understand if you don't have the time. Thanks either way)
Gosh, I'm responding to this a month late. My apologies! I hope you get this.
Howdy howdy, and thank you so much! It means a lot that you liked that post. You've probably already seen the My Analyses page, which is frightfully out of date. Anything that didn't make it onto that page will still have a my analysis tag. But yeahhhHhHh... tumblr's search function is.... yeah.
I know that, before I made this sideblog, I wrote a few ideas about Sans and Gaster on my main. It's still on the My Analyses page for lefthanded-sans, but I want to bring up Gaster Destroyed Himself with the SAVE Function in case you haven't seen that one yet.
Unfortunately, it's also been several years since I've analyzed Undertale, so I don't remember if I have other posts that discuss Sans + quantum mechanics. Going to the archive for the first year of this blog is where you're most likely to find things, I think.
I also was going to explore this idea in depth in a fanfiction, Reset or Resume. I had SUCH a long and COMPLICATED series of charts for how this story was to come together, and I was so excited for its epicness. Eheh. But I got tired and busy and never finished it, and instead of posting it with fanfare a chapter at a time as planned, shyly tossed the unfinished product all at once onto FFN at an obscure hour. I don't think I got to major quantum physics stuff, but I want to be helpful bringing up anything on the subject on the rare chance it helps you.
I do talk on the opening author's notes page on point #4 about a quantum physics inspo, but obviously, in many cases, creative writing details for flavor are going to be different than actually-thought-through-meta-theories (though I will say that if my characters make hyper-specific scientific references or name a paper author, that's probably referencing an actual article). Shoot, I'm sure I had story ideas that I never wrote down that were more meta...... hrmh.
If you have any posts that you've found or written, I'd be interested seeing those! This convo is re-sparking my interest in this area.
Lastly, I want to speak with humility to make sure people know the level to which they should be taking me "seriously." My college background was in linguistics and music. I enjoyed sciences in high school, but I am very, very clearly neither a hard sciences expert nor amateur, and shouldn't be taken as someone who knows or has any expertise on quantum mechanics.
I realize most of this was already on my blog, but I hope that helps! Thanks for bringing some smiles to me about UT!

hi, noticed that you use both dano and hasan as fcs. i know hasan is the voice of the riddler in unburied and this is a different version, but i find it a bit odd to see two races for the same character being played, especially since hasan is being delegated the minor role in comparison. its your blog and of course its your choice how you run it, but i wanted to give a nudge that that might not sit well with some people.
Hi! First of all, thank you for the respectful way you approached the topic :) I really don't mind receiving nudges about things I might do wrong.
Now... This is a bit difficult for me. When I first started this blog, I thought they'd get more balanced threads and that I'd have to beg people to play with Dano!Riddler... But I also thought I wouldn't be here for more than a week and people would hate me, so that's on me. It certainly didn't go as I originally planned. I did also have a plan of watching Gotham and having a verse for that - but I got too lazy, and the mixed reviews didn't make me very excited about it. From the very beginning, I planned to have multiple Riddler interpretations on this blog, because I loved those versions equally and wanted to try my hand at it.
While I get what you mean about having the one with a POC FC not being my main, I do consider them as different people, but with the same core. For example, hasan riddler is a gemini, dano riddler is a cancer. They have different struggles and disabilities. While both have OCD, I approach it in different manners. Hasan Riddler is more comic compliant and I plan to rewrite his background to reflect that (and you can also notice that they have different backgrounds and deal with frustrations differently).
My Hasan Riddler is talkative, social, can be charming, has a real terror of being called or being insane, is always stuck into the "am I a villain? can I be something different?" thing, is a man who was removed from his origins and is seeking to find root, to understand himself, connect to something.
Dano Riddler is socially awkward, has a very unstable behavior, is certain he's, in fact, insane and nothing can be done about it, so he might as well use it in his favor. He seeks to do something with all the anger he has, anything to give him answers for his life.
While at the core they're smart, like riddles and are obsessive, I write them as different people. I'd see my blog more like a dual muse, honestly. They can't just change places, one doesn't erase the other. When I write Dano Riddler with comics in mind, I always have to rethink everything. For example, Dano Riddler would never become a private investigator, while Hasan Riddler does. Hush comic arc I think makes much more sense to Hasan Riddler, for Dano Riddler I'd have to rewrite it all. Even something as simple as Pandora's box, the BDSM club, they have a different relationship with it. Hasan Riddler is a person who has friends, who people genuinely likes and he usually doesn't notice or give it too much importance.
I also do write taking notice that they are of different races and that makes them different from the very beginning. They have different outlooks on life. I always try to make sure this is being taken into consideration.
Now, If I were to change it now, what could really be done? I stop playing Hasan Riddler? Wouldn't that be worse? I do Hasan Riddler as main instead? But he wouldn't fit in most of the threads I have because they're not interchangeable. I give Hasan Riddler a sideblog? Still, relegating him to a minor space. Give him a blog of his own? While this is possible, that would overwhelm me and I would probably not be able to keep both accounts active.
I can try giving him more interactions, maybe write more opens, that's definitely something I'd like to do. Other than that, I'm not really sure what could be done. If you have an idea or a different approach I could have, I'll gladly listen to anyone's input. And this is not meant as a "I'm right, and I'd never do anything wrong" sort of answer, I acknowledge I can be wrong, but I'd like to explain my vision. You're welcome to come on or off anon to discuss more about it if you'd like. I also hope this made sense.

About the Blog/Rules and Fandoms
I’m Emme. I have ADHD and a life so posts may be sporadic. This is a sideblog. (I crosspost my stories to Quotev under @ PolumniaOmnia.)
Everything else under the cut.
Rules for Requesting
I accept requests for scenarios, headcanons, and interactions. Be sure to specify which. Guidelines and/or additional rules for interactions and concepts are discussed below these general rules. Headcanons are easier and will generally be answered faster.
I only accept one character per request. I do write either fem or gn readers, be sure to specify. If you don’t, then I’ll choose depending on my mood.
Finally, I love AUs, especially soulmate and monster ones. If you have an idea for one, send it in!
I do NOT write:
Anything regarding children, pregnancy, and abortion
NSFW
Self harm or suicide
Male readers
Specific body types
Eating disorders
Medical conditions and specific disabilities (I do not want to portray real-life disorders and the like incorrectly.)
Multiple characters x one partner
Character x character
Anything regarding non-yandere topics (loose rule)
Characters that are 15 and under (I age up characters 16 and over, but if they look like a little kid then that’s a no from me.)
I may add more later.
Interactions
Interactions are just you, talking to a character. Send in a piece of dialogue, and if you want, a bit of background context (i.e “reader is planning an escape” or “they’re in Heaven’s Arena”). I’ll accept OCs too, for now at least, but you have to give me a brief overview of your OC. If I decide I don’t like writing OCs then this may change.
Concepts/Chatting
Basically, if you have any ideas you want to talk about or questions about anything I have written or am planning to write, send em in! I’d love to hear thoughts and questions.
Fandoms/Accepted Characters
If a character isn’t listed underneath the fandom, then I do not write for them. Characters and fandoms that are bolded are my favorites and requests for them are more likely to be answered. Just because your fave may not be on the list does not necessarily mean that I don’t like them (I find myself chronically incapable of disliking most characters) it may just mean that either I don’t know them well or I'm just wholly indifferent towards them.
Hunter x Hunter
Chrollo Lucilfer, Illumi Zoldyck, Phinks, Feitan Porter
Twisted Wonderland
Riddle, Ace, Trey, Leona, Jack, Azul, Jade, Floyd, Jamil, Rook, Idia, Malleus, Sebek, Lilia
Genshin Impact
Scaramouche/Wanderer/Kunikuzushi, Diluc, Childe, Zhongli, Xiao, Albedo, Subject 2/Fakebedo, Dainsleif, Kaeya, Alhaitham
Seraph of the End
Ferid Bathory, Crowley Eusford
The Case Study of Vanitas
August Ruthven, Noé Archiviste, Vanitas
Hellsing Ultimate
Alucard
Honkai: Star Rail
Sampo Koski, Blade, Boothill (thinking real hard abt him but I won't say too much until he comes out)

i. i am not at all selective with who i write with or follow. i have a tendency to mutual with anyone who i can see myself writing with in the future. therefore if you ever see me or my windrider on the feed, do not hesitate to interact or dm me.
ii. explicit and mature writing on the feed will follow trigger / content warning to keep my friends list safe & stress-free. [ie. like: 'tw DEATH']. more often than not these topics will be brought up in private settings as a means of plot-development & story-telling. if any or all topics make you uncomfortable, please unfollow or softblock, no hard feelings.
iii. i don’t really format my posts heavily with extra fonts anymore because of my own laziness & eye strain (aside from the usual small text, bolds, italics, linking, etc). i do use icons & headers for posts. but i’m more than accepting of those that do / don’t.
iv. i do adore shipping as much as the next girl but i'd much rather ships (romantic) be planned beforehand, even if they are slow-burn. saves for confusion & what not. ships will take place in their own universes unless disclosed and / or my muse is polyamorous in the verse.
v. as far as credits go, everything is made by me unless stated otherwise. graphics / edits not edited by me will be credited in posts or in alt texts. account psd.

I know you aren’t keen on getting a bunch of asks recommending media, but is there anything you’ve gotten into lately that you’re during to pitch to people?
Let's see. ^.^ I'm currently watching Adventure Time. This is my first time watching every episode sequentially (circa 2013 or 2014 or so, I watched a spattering of episodes out of order but never finished the show). Currently in S6. I absolutely love how the world grows in Adventure Time. You can tell the early seasons were written with little in mind, simply going out, being wild, being spontaneous, and creating a wacky, trippy world. But that turned into a world with great depth, heart, and expansion as the series continues (especially once you enter Season 5). The worldbuilding is awesomely done.
I feel like lots of shows, when they transition from "early spontaneity" to "long-term comfort," they lose something. I think of Futurama. The early seasons of Futurama are incredible because it's not formulaic to the viewer; events are unexpected; new characters are introduced rather than repeated, expected, predictable recurrences. Futurama is still a HELL of a show in its middling seasons, etc. and a fave of mine. The Office (USA) also has that challenge/loss. But damn, Adventure Time managed the transition INCREDIBLY smoothly and well, I love how you settle into the world. How you get into the depth. How you get worldbuilding. How you get into deeper story messages. And how even in the midst of all that, you still maintain that spark, that spontaneity, that uniqueness, that vibe that made me get interested in the show in the first place.
Adventure Time straddles the line between two types of off-kilter: the positive, quirky-bright off-kilter, and the slight-off-slightly-dark-off-kilter. It's great. I've also heavily appreciated the cast of characters, how there's a ton of women characters, and how they're all very interesting, in-depth, and not standard/stereotypes.
But uhhhhhh. Really my current hyperfixation is. Uh. Bluegrass. [laughter] Seriously. Bluegrass. Especially first generation bluegrass circa 1940s-1960s. I made a fuckin' sideblog intentionally to avoid folks unwantedly suffering juxtaposition of fictional fandom and music history obsessing. Heh. Hilariously, I've been timid to show the true depths of my screeching passion. Rn I'm trying to do blog clean-up and a mini-restart (halfway through retagging my posts! and planning to change how I write my posts so they're shorter, etc.), and trying to get more outgoing... because let's be real, it's going to be more entertaining if I'm gungho crying screeching infodumping unrestrained about the subject, whatever your background is on the subject. I know I enjoy reading posts on any topic if the writer is sufficiently excited, so I need to uh, channel the excitement! SO THAT'S WHAT I AM PLANNING TO DO.
And seriously that's where all my excitement in life is right now!!! It's changed my life and I'm not even joking (not gonna go into here rn why but yeah it has). Like holy shit I can't get enough of reading about these dudes from the 1950s. I can't get enough listening to them, watching videos, learning the little nothings, the stupid humorous stories, the Drama(tm) between competing bands, the development of the music, me learning how to play banjo and fiddle, writing creative stories (fics????) inspired by the topic, everything!!! I can listen to a recording and tell you which fiddler is playing in this band or which mandolin picker or which tenor is singing and probably estimate what year it was recorded because like, holy shit man, I have found my CALLING. I've started collecting 100 year old records! I'm heading to a bluegrass festival this weekend for three solid days of internal (and probably external) fanboying. Gah it's like, fucking, there's all those K-Pop fans out there and they have each other to scream with, and i'm all here by my lonesome on this fucking genre. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE FOR THE BETTER so I cannot be happier at where my mind has headed.
So if you want to uhhhh read..... THAT??!?!?!?!?! uh? I mean, I don't expect you to be interested. BUT YOU ARE WELCOME TO COME ABOARD AND POKE ME and see what the stupid fucking shit I've somehow managed to get myself into. Okay but seriously it's so coool like all the different banjo playing styles??? How many people innovated their own style and taught themselves to play? ALL THE DIFFERENT INFLUENCES THAT GO INTO BLUEGRASS MUSIC??? How it's simultaneously a hella progressively innovative music style from its inception to today while also considered USA American traditional music? How many of these songs are several hundred years old and originated as English, Scottish, and the like folk tunes? How you might find out a bluegrass song actually originated as an obscure broadway tune that got coopted, or a Jamaican folk song, or big band jazz, or...? I mean holy cow dude, music is awesome and i'm so glad that it's a major part of my life again.
a;eogiaje;roigaje;roiagjerioj I have no idea if this is anything you wanted, but that's my answer I guess! Full of incoherence. Have a great one and stay awesome.

It’s an Update
Hello, Riddle here! I know I’ve been pretty quiet on Tumblr lately. Here’s an update on my situation:
I will definitely post more fanfic updates soon. I’ve picked at drafts, but haven’t posted anything lately. Here are the reasons why:
I got a new IRL job. It’s a good fit for me, but I have less free time than I used to, of course. It’s a job that involves writing lots of articles on a variety of topics, and I enjoy how every day is a little different
Most of my free time for the last year has gone towards my mod work at the Creature-Crossing ARPG, and to my personal CC writing. I’ve been working on new activities over there (my recent favorite being our seasonal familiar shows... I won first place in the summer show!) and I have a lot of plot plans that are coming together now. If you ever want to see my original characters and read my CC writing, you can find my character directory HERE and my Table of Contents HERE.
Once November 1st hits, I won’t be preparing for the release of any more CC activities or events. All future activity or event releases will be overseen by the other mods, and I’ll simply be someone they can ask for extra help if needed. This is a big change for a mod who spent the last 12 months working on new releases, and will give me back some of the free time my IRL job will eat
The Creature-Crossing admin (my boss) greenlit my request to bring an assistant on the mod team who will specifically help me with a lot of my behind-the-scenes work, such as data entry and organization. I’ve never had another mod who specifically helps me with the back end duties before, so that will be awesome. I will need to spend some time training them, but once they are official, that will take some of my workload off and allow me more free time for this blog and personal writing time.
===
Fanfic updates you can expect to see soon:
- Reedfilter Rules
- Frayed Knots
- Origin of the Pixies
- Debut of Factor It In, my Kid Math-centric “WordGirl” fanfic (Subtitled “Tales of a third-grade superhero in training”)... Yes I am still in love with this idiot boy, expect lots of doodle pages soon
- The 130 Prompts project is on a slow-burn writing schedule... I’ll write for it when I want to, but I mostly want to focus on Origin and Knots this year.
Further info below the cut. There is more info about non-Fairly OddParents ‘fics in here too (under “non-FOP fanfics”), so if you’re looking forward to Mario World or “WordGirl” ‘fics from me, give this a click so you know what’s coming!
So, what does this update mean for your fanfics?
They’ll be active again soon! I’ve been picking at them behind the scenes, trying to build up a buffer. In an ideal world, I would love to release a new chapter for SOMETHING every Friday. I doubt this will be possible, but it’s something I would love to work towards in the future. Realistically, you can probably expect some kind of fanfic update once every two Fridays (two updates per month).
There might be some Fridays where posting an update is not possible. Instead, I’ll make a post about what progress I made instead. In the past, I often overworked myself to get a chapter out in time for my old deadline. I will not be doing that anymore, but will instead hold myself to a goal of “Make progress on something every week.”
In the best ideal world, I would love to post one FOP fanfic update per week and one non-FOP fanfic update per week. This is not likely to happen for a long, long time, but that would be the dream.
-
Here are the things I most likely worked on if there is no fanfic update:
- A fanfic chapter draft that needs more time
- A sideblog profile
- A Toyhouse profile for personal characters
- IRL work or mod work may have kept me busy this week
- Creature-Crossing writing... I will try to prioritize my fanfics more, but my CC writing is still important to me and I will be working on it in a lot of my free time too. At the moment, I have a hard deadline of December 14th that I need to meet if I want to release huge plot drama on the day that it happens in canon. I’ve been building up to this for a long time, so I’m really excited about that.
I currently have summer or autumn 2022 planned as the “finale” for the majority of my plot to explode. I will be hosting a member-run event in Creature-Crossing that will last for two months, so a lot of my time from January until the event’s release will be spent doing event prep. Once the event ends, my story content will mostly be a “return to slice of life.” Stories will be more casual one-offs as characters grow, live their lives, and start their own families. Hitting seasonal deadlines for plot will no longer be so important. I’ll be giving Creature-Crossing work less attention after that, and much more attention to my fanfics.
- I may not have a fanfic chapter out each week, but I WILL post a note every Friday to let you know what I have been doing with my time. You’ll see me around. Feel free to send Asks and talk!
===
What non-FOP fanfics would you like to work on?
For literal years, I’ve been claiming I want to post Mario World fanfics. This is still something I want to do. I tag Mario World posts as “mushrooms and more.” I’ve already done a lot of worldbuilding, I have thousands of words of content written for this fandom... I just haven’t posted any of it. I hope to do this soon.
- “WordGirl” fanfics are prioritized over Mario World fanfics. After I finish my first “WordGirl” multi-chapter, I will probably be ready to post my Mario World ‘fics. I may possibly post some Mario World one-shots in between other fanfic updates. Might take another year or more before I touch Mario stuff unless there’s high interest in seeing it sooner?
I also really want to write some WordGirl ‘fics and get more involved with the fandom community. I’ve been building headcanons and lore for this show ever since I was a kid, and I have multiple ‘fics for this fandom that I want to write.
- “AlgoRhythm” is a ‘fic I have already posted on FFN and AO3, about WordGirl introducing Kid Math to the villains in town
- 28 Cities is a ‘fic I started about Rhyme and Reason before they arrived in Fair City. I put it on hiatus since it didn’t seem like anyone was interested, but I’m willing to post more for it if there is interest in it now that years have passed and I’ve gotten more followers who like WordGirl. I have a lot of worldbuilding and plot I never shared for it
- Factor It In is a ‘fic I’ve been working for a while that parallels the official show from the moment Kid Math arrives in town. It focuses on Rex’s struggle to adjust to this world as a child coming into his superpowers for the first time (Y’know, the whole “superheroes don’t have powers when they’re on their home planets” thing), his struggle to adapt to the social world of a non-logical planet, and Becky’s struggle to help him become accustomed to Earth and learn to share it with her as well. If the episode “Kid Math” was a full-length novel about Rex’s arrival and character development, that’s what this story is. This is the highest priority of all my non-FOP ‘fics... I’ve had a cover image made for 6 months and even though I tried setting it aside, I’ve always been super inspired to write for it. If I felt like it would be a good idea to commit to weekly updates alongside my FOP updates, I would, haha.
- I have two one-shot WIPs called “Squishy Feelings” and “A Little Ambiguity”, one of them focusing on Becky and Rex talking about the events of “Rhyme and Reason” and what it means for Rex’s secret identity, and the latter being a future ‘fic showing WordGirl and Kid Math dealing with life 10 to 15 years down the road. I’ll probably post the latter, not sure yet on the former.
- If desired, I may make a WordGirl specific sideblog where I post lore, answer Asks, post character profiles [smaller than my FOP sideblog ones], and mention fanfic updates. If you would be interested in this, feel free to send me an Ask requesting I do this. If there’s not interest, I’ll just keep my WordGirl stuff on the main blog.
- I’d like to get more involved in the WordGirl community, so I’ll probably post more content and reblog more art and headcanons
I also have a handful of miscellaneous ideas I might follow through with. I’d like to write at least one “TUFF Puppy” fanfic so I can say I did. In a perfect world I would like to finish the two “Danny Phantom” and “Bunsen Is a Beast” fanfics I started because... I just kind of want to dip my toe in each of the Hartman shows once since I already went through all the effort of worldbuilding for them to make them canon in a single Hartman show universe. “ChalkZone” is another show I adore and might touch someday (You may recall I have a full outline planned for an FOP/ChalkZone crossover ‘fic called “Dust to Dust”).
Will I write all of these things? Maybe not. I have no idea if I want to spend the next 10+ years writing fanfics, or if I’ll simply be done with all misc. fanfics immediately once I decide to be done with my main ‘fics. I definitely intend to write for a few more years and finish my main ‘fics, but I might not go through with some less popular side ‘fics if life is getting busy for me.
===
What is the posting schedule for FOP ‘fics?
Reedfilter Rules, Frayed Knots, Origin of the Pixies, the 130 Prompts project, and “Come What May” are all high priority FOP writings. I will swap between them depending on my mood that week.
Here are some other ‘fics I want to work on.
- If you like, you can send me Asks requesting I work on a specific story above the rest. I will try to prioritize whichever stories interest you guys most.
Snips and Snails is a ‘fic I started and posted the first chapter for years ago. I’m not sure when I will get back to it, as I ran into some writer’s block. It’s still on tentative hiatus for now..... Possibly forever, though I hope it isn’t forever since it’s only supposed to be, like, five more chapters.
Pink and Gray is on official hiatus. I actually have a lot written for it, but I know it’s a little weird to put so much time and energy into Gary and Betty content when... well, let’s be honest: they’re my niche favorites and most of you probably don’t care. So, I am lifting my usual “no spoilers” policy from my Ask Box. If you would like to ask about my Gary and Betty backstory headcanons, feel free. I will tag my replies as “ridwriting spoilers” for anyone who wants to blacklist the tag, and spoilers will be hidden under a Read More line.
I’d like to return to this story someday because there are tons of things I like about it (ranging from Betty’s secret tattoos to Gary’s plot drama with his mom to the background drama between Talon and Anti-Cosmo, but I always feel immense pressure to make it extra cool to make up for the fact these are weird side characters, so... it’s officially at the bottom of the priority pile. Once Talon shows up in Frayed Knots and readers understand who he is and why he exists, I’ll consider coming back to it.
Identity Theft is a story about Foop and his time in the alternate dimension he was flung into following the episode “Playdate of Doom.” To put it short, Foop was abused by alternate versions of his parents in this dimension and he witnessed some pretty intense stuff, including the death of the alt version of himself who existed in that reality. The trauma he experienced resulted in his alternate personality, Hiccup. Foop himself has very few memories of what happened, as Hiccup has all of those memories. This story is canon in my works, and it is regularly referred to during the 130 Prompts as part of Foop’s backstory. It’s my highest priority side story to work on.
Along the Cherry Lane is a 20-chapter work focusing on the lives of the main human cast from age 11 to age 30, with one chapter showing a snippet of their lives each year. You see Timmy raising Tommy and Tammy in this ‘fic, and it ends with them receiving godparents. Since the 130 Prompts don’t give humans much attention, this ‘fic does. You’ll probably see it debut two years from now, closer to when the 130 Prompts is ready to talk more about humans.
If this becomes a popular ‘fic of mine, I’ll probably write a sequel or continue it past Chapter 30 and write about Tammy and Tommy living with fairies, but I won’t if there’s no interest in that.
Little Imperfections is a Pixie AU ‘fic of mine about what life would be like in a universe where the Fairies are even more like insects than I play them as during my main works (where I already play them as semi-similar to insects). In this world, the Head Pixie is a figurehead whose duty is to reproduce for the sake of the colony and do nothing else, and he’s bored out of his mind until he befriends Sanderson, who introduces him to music. It’s extremely self-indulgent and silly because I like Pixies.
Francis is a multi-chapter ‘fic about bully Francis’s life getting yet another fairy godparent in a long string of memory wipes and godparents. It takes place during the canon series, and when you see an “orange fairy” mentioned in some of my writings, it’s usually referring to this fairy. His name is Rover and I occasionally post art of him. I feel like I can’t truly call myself an FOP fanfic writer until I actually write about a godkid and their godparents, haha...
Hawthorn Haven is a side ‘fic that will be posted towards the end of the 130 Prompts, as it veers off from the prompts in its own self-contained multi-chapter story. It will be approximately the length of “Baby, You’re a Rich Man.”
Acacia Arcadia is a far-past ‘fic detailing the fall of the ancient fae, the imprisonment of the nature spirits, the rise and fall of the chimera nation, the fall of the Martian genies, and the early days of the cloudlands. This is close to the bottom of the priority pile... It’s something I spend time on for personal reference to ensure accuracy in my other ‘fics, but it’s probably not what you guys came here to read.
AA has a bunch of characters in it that you might vaguely recognize, such as Ezekiel Whimsifinado, Evadne, Ione, Two Feathers, Rho, and Sablewood (If you’re astute, you might recall cloudland legends and landmarks in modern day that refer back to these characters). There are also a lot of characters who were reincarnated as Anti-Fairies, in accordance to traditional Anti-Fairy beliefs; Foop for example exists as a main character in one of his past lives, and you’ll see a hint dropped about each of his lives in the first chapter of Identity Theft. My tentative plan is to use Foop’s past lives as my central characters, following the events of each part of the timeline until he gets killed and reincarnates at a later point of the timeline.
I also keep some one-shots in a file I call Mixed Nuts and I may possibly post them someday (they’re mostly just one-shots of main cast characters I do to get a feel for their personalities, I have some Wanda and Cupid in here). @zachbrightside and I are also working on a collab ‘fic called Like a House On Fire that shows more of Timmy and Chloe’s lives during Season 10 (especially around the time of “Which Is Wish?”) No news on a release date for that yet.
-
As I’ve said before, once all my other FOP works are complete, I will write Devil’s Backbone, which is my far-future ‘fic and the finale of my FOP writing. I do not plan to write any more FOP content after that story is finished, as I expect to have all other FOP projects done by then.
- Devil’s Backbone is a finale 'fic, so all worldbuilding from all stories is fair game to blend together, and it’s highly recommended you read everything else first. This story has been outlined since 2016, and it might not be published for another 10 years... Who knows! But it’s something I always work towards as a concrete endgame goal.
- If something serious comes up in my life and I officially decide I don’t want to write this story, I will post the outline for it. The link to this draft is included with all the other Google Docs links I have in a far-future queued post unveiling my WIPs in case I unexpectedly die and you still want to know how my stories would have gone, so you’ll get access to this story eventually even if I die young. Yes, share access is turned on for them all and I do take extra careful measures to be sure that post doesn’t get posted early skldfj
===
What is the plan for the main blog?
Every Friday, I will post either a fanfic chapter or a progress update. You can blacklist the tag “ridlife” if you do not want to see the progress updates on your dashboard. Fanfic updates will not have the “ridlife” tag, so you will not be blocking them.
During the rest of the week, I might post doodles, reblogs, or general comments. Basically... you’ll see the blog become active again. Feel free to send in Asks about my worldbuilding and thoughts on fanfic characters.
@fountainpenguin is my personal blog, so you will see non-fandom things on here sometimes
@riddledeep is my FOP-exclusive sideblog. It contains all my lore notes and goes into a ton of depth, more than my fanfics give in one breath
===
What does this mean for the Riddledeep sideblog?
I really want to go back and edit those character profiles that were posted early by mistake. The reason they were queued is because if I turned them into drafts, they would have been buried all the way at the beginning of my draft collection, and I have many, many drafts saved. There are no page numbers to navigate quickly through the draft collection, so I would have to click through each page one by one if I ever wanted to look at them. I hated doing this, which is why I kept my posts queued.
I was regularly updating the queue deadlines, trying to keep things in the order I wanted to post them in, but Tumblr made a change to the way drafts are dated and it kept throwing off my system. My inability to remember when my queued things would post combined with my busy schedule led to some profiles being posted early and incomplete. I want to fix these.
Over a year ago, my good friend Vulpix150 helped me finalize my designs for the Aos Sí and Daoine Sith. I’ve been sitting on that art in secret for a while, and at some point I plan to post it on the sideblog and talk more about that lore.
Updating fanfics is my higher priority (and it was the priority my followers voted for when I asked you to send votes to my Ask Box a while back). So, I will usually spend my free time working on fanfics unless I need a break from them and want to work on sideblog profiles instead. Thank you for your patience!
===
TL;DR
I’m posting fanfics again soon. I’m going to take a more relaxed approach to posting them. I’m going to post more of what I want to post and what I feel motivated to post, not always a main ‘fic update. If I’m not “feeling it” when working on a draft, then I’ll set it aside for a while unless I know my followers and readers have high interest in the next chapter of that story. I always write for me first, but if I know there are other people who care a lot about a story, then of course I want to write it for you too!
I’m going to embrace my decade-long love for WordGirl and post more ‘fics and art or this fandom. I’ve always been a little shy about doing this, but I’m ready to make it an official fandom on my main blog (unless there are lots of requests for WordGirl things to be contained in their own sideblog). I will be posting the first chapter for a ‘fic called Factor It In very soon. Love my easily frustrated alien kiddos having a long day.
I am working on Creature-Crossing stuff too, and will be especially busy in November and December. Updates will be slow for a few months, but I hope to find my groove and a good pace soon.
Each Friday, I will post either a fanfic update or a mention of what I am working on. I will be checking in on Tumblr regularly. Feel free to talk! I much prefer you send messages to my Ask Box, not my private messenger, please <3
===
Is there a specific story of mine you like and want more updates for?
Asks and reviews help me know which ‘fics people are enjoying. I plan to keep writing ‘fics no matter what, but I definitely give more time to the ‘fics that get more attention (and I have been spending so much time writing for Creature-Crossing because that’s where the attention was coming from)
It’s easy to stay motivated and get the next part of a story out soon if I know that people like it. It’s always harder if you feel like people are silently judging you and ignoring your posts. So, let me know what you’re interested in. And if you only leave Likes or Favorites instead of asks and reviews, that’s okay too! Thank you for interacting anyway and enjoying my work.
Thanks for reading!

Meet the Creator!
Tumblr media
Introducing: Squido!
Commission:  I haven't and don't really intend to. I don't want to take anyone's hard-earned money. Just ask me to draw things and there's a good chance I will.
Social Media:  Tumblr: @sky-squido AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/users/sky_squido/pseuds/sky_squido
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Call me Squido! I love to draw and write but I'm also super extraverted and I love interacting with humans so always feel free to chat with me! Aside from drawing and writing, I just love being outside and have a tumblr sideblog dedicated exclusively to nature photos I take. I love mountains, the ocean, the sky, and just about everything else in this beautiful world of ours! If you ever feel like having an internet stranger give you a thousand word rant, ask me why my favorite color is blue and you will not be disappointed!
What got you into creating? what inspires you to keep creating?
I've been drawing for as long as I can remember and can't seem to stop, though I take long breaks sometimes I always seem to come back to it again. I try not to have anything in mind when I draw, but to start sketching and let the drawing happen. Sometimes I find that what I'm trying to draw is not what my drawing wants to be (if that makes any sense) and change what I'm making halfway through. It makes drawing a really relaxing and carefree therapeutic experience! Writing is different. I've always enjoyed writing, but I didn't write much and never shared my writing with anyone because I thought it was super pretentious. It wasn't until entering High School and joining the literature club and making a deal with a friend that we'd share our writing with each other that I actually gained any sort of confidence in my ability and sought to improve it. Being in that club and sharing my pieces at the open mics was a really encouraging experience! I invite everyone to share their writing, even if it's with some random internet stranger (I'm open anytime!) if they're unsure of their abilities. A little encouragement goes a long way! Now that I'm on Discord, ao3, and tumblr, I receive so much more feedback than I ever have before! It's been super encouraging! What inspires me most is definitely nature. Even if my ideas aren't directly related to the outdoors, I get my best ideas there. Fandoms are also a great idea generator. The sheer volume of headcanons and prompts is enough to make me dizzy with ideas!
What's your creative process like?
I love sketching. My favorite thing about drawing digitally is that I can sketch as much as I like and never worry about wasting materials! Often times my sketches turn themselves into drawings without permission and other times they stubbornly remain sketches for all eternity. I always dive right in because I have no patience and the idea I started out with generally isn't that great but in the process of pursuing it, it spirals out of control and sometimes the idea gets better and sometimes it gets worse but I just kinda roll with it. Creating is a really chill process for me and while I regularly scream stuff like "I'M DRAWING ON THE WRONG LAYER NONONONONONO" or "NO HECK FRICK SHOOT IT SMUDGED HECK HECK GET THE ERASER QUICK," the creative process is a great way for me to unwind. I'm the same way about writing. I never plan or outline and just kind of roll with things. I mean I generally have the basic jist in mind, but I try to not have a plan so I can keep the story driven by the characters and not force them into acting the way I wanted them to in the outline I made hours or even days ago. Creating is my opportunity to break free so I don't really see what good a plan or outline does me. I'm a pretty spontaneous person!
What kind of mediums do you like to use?
I like to take pictures, but it's not really my main focus. I've been mostly digitally drawing—I use my iPad Pro and Procreate—but lately I've been pencil sketching with just your average everyday mechanical pencil (I'd forgotten how nice the texture of paper was! Clearly I spent too much time drawing on my iPad!). I have these Stabilio chalk pastels I love to pieces, but have also spent a great deal of time with watercolors. Digital is my primary medium currently, though.
Tumblr media
Is there a specific scene wrote that you are particularly proud of?
"Sky’s golden scales are glowing with reflected light from the sun while beneath them, the same pulsing blue in her mane runs like a river as her very skin is alive with electricity. The sun’s beginning to dip, fading through the color wheel from yellow to deep orange to scarlet and the world is bathed in watercolor and hue shifted through the rainbow until all that was blue becomes red. This new alien world begins to darken as red fades to deep purple-pink, the clouds catching last vestiges of gold in their pillowy folds, yet Sky continues rippling with lighting, the bright blue flowing like blood through her veins and the gold shimmering in the eerie azure glow. We weave through the winds and zephyrs and I close my eyes and let the breeze caress my hair and when I reopen them, I’m standing back on the ground again in a world long since darkened by night. I place my hand over my beating heart where Sky is still laughing with joy and smile because once you’ve awakened your dragon, you don’t need wings to fly anymore."
Is there someone who inspires you and your writing or art?
Every fanartist and fanfic writer that posts their stuff online is an inspiration to me. Even if their stuff isn't very good—especially if it isn't very good—it's a huge testament to the courage of the creator and their bravery in expressing themself! I sat on fanfic and fanart for years and never shared it and here were kids half my age putting out art that was their first experiment in a new medium and a little shaky but it was still out there and they were still being supported by the community and that really inspired me to reach out and stop lurking in fandom and actually get involved!
is there something that you struggled with that made you grow as a creator?
I feel like everyone has these periods where they were just gaining confidence in their artistic ability but suddenly everything they make is trash and they're not happy with any of it and they feel so down and worthless and "where did all of my hard-earned ability go? Will I ever get it back?" I think this is a pretty common experience and when I find myself there, I find it most helpful to share what I make anyway, even if I hate it, with someone who I know will give it to me straight because they'll point out the deeper problems—the root of the issue—that I hadn't even noticed and I can use that information to grow as an artist. Bad pieces are just as valuable as good ones. There was also a time where I had a lot of trouble developing a style. I did a lot of experimenting and never found anything I liked. What happened is I just kept drawing and whatever popped out eventually evolved into my style. I used to get frustrated that I couldn't draw anything without a reference, but after years and years of using references and drawing some of the same things over and over again, you won't need the references anymore. I mean, they're great and you should always feel free to use them, but over time, you won't need to look up a picture of every little thing you try to doodle.
What got you into writing or art?
My silly twitchy fingers can't ever seem to stop drawing! Same with writing. Words and ideas follow me around, little plot bunnies pestering me until they get written down somewhere. I was greatly inspired by the works of C.S. Lewis in my writing, especially his Cosmic Trilogy. My art style was aided by Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist, which was a valuable stepping stone in developing my own style. Other than that, it was my own insatiable desire to MAKE THINGS that spurred me onwards. I don't think I could stop if I tried!
What's your favorite part of the creative process?
After you've got that first paragraph and you've found a flow and you've got a topic and you just GO. I get into the zone and the story starts happening on its own and I'm not an author anymore, I'm just a channel between the world of the piece and the page. That's my favorite. I love watching things take shape. I love shading a sketch for these same reasons. The whole drawing comes together and becomes A Thing and it's the most exciting time to be a creator. Something else inside you has taken over and you're just along for the ride. I have no idea if my experiences are common at all but this is what it's like for me!
What's your least favorite part of the creative process?
EDITING. I HAVE ZERO PATIENCE. THE THING IS DONE. WHY DO I HAVE TO KEEP LOOKING AT IT. CAN I POST IT YET. This leaves me with a lot of holes in what I make and I can't do a very clean, super detailed drawing unless it's for an art class and I'm forced to keep working on it. I have a terrible habit of never proofreading my things!
What's your favorite type of scene to write?
AAH hard question! I love writing description and places where I can really let my inner 19th century romantic be unleashed but I also love a good emotional moment between two characters. Something tense. I like fight scenes, but I try to keep them brief and interesting. Sometimes I find scenes where I have no idea what's going on and I try to avoid that, but it's really hard sometimes.
What's the hardest for you to create?
I have so much trouble with endings. I can generally figure something out, but there's always a moment of panic before the end like "heck I wrote everything I wanted how do I wrap this up????" That's probably a byproduct of me planning nothing XD I sometimes have trouble with characterization and making sure everyone acts the way they actually would. The hardest part is continuing after you have an "oh heck what do I do now" moment that breaks you out of your zone and all of your ideas and plot threads turn invisible or evaporate or go wherever it is they go when you're looking for them.
Tumblr media
What's your favorite genre to write?
ANGST ANGST ANGST ANGST. Wellll... scratch that. I love something adventure-y and plot driven with a lot of really meaningful character interactions. I've always had trouble putting my writing into genres, but I guess that kind of speaks for itself in a way.
What fandoms do you enjoy creating for?
Linked Universe is the fandom I have created and posted the most for by a LONG SHOT. I found LU shortly after making my tumblr and I joined the Discord shortly thereafter. Since then, it has been nonstop inspiration and creativity for me! I tend to get sucked into one fandom and it consumes me for a few months before I silently drift out of it and never think about it again. LU is the fandom I've been the most active in EVER though—and it's still going—so there's a good chance I'm never getting off this ride.
What's the work you are most proud of?
AAAAAAAAAAH MY BABIES. okay um here's the first and only fanfic I've ever posted anywhere but I'm really happy with: https://sky-squido.tumblr.com/post/618964544219463680/turn-back-time-a-linked-universe-fanfic I have a lot of other pieces kicking about, but they're not fandom so I haven't shared them yet. I probably will after I touch them up a bit.
Do you have any fics inspired by real life stories?
Not really? I don't really know where my ideas come from to be honest!
Where do you post your finished works?
my tumblr. I tag stuff #squido writes and #squido draws so you can find them easily. I also put them on the discord but they get lost in the stream of other works pretty quickly so stick to my tumblr. I also have an ao3 now! https://archiveofourown.org/users/sky_squido
If you have any fun stories about the pieces you made, please do share!
Turn Back Time was actually live written in the Discord, but entirely unplanned and in the #angst channel! It was just a headcanon but then I started describing it and like 2 hours and 5k words later I'm sitting in the Discord like "what just happened??"

“He loves you, you know? He’s just afraid of admitting it”
Hello no I didn’t forget about these I am just slower than a little baby turtle!!!!! Anyway
Summary: Goro’s new job leads him to discover that dealing with both a crush and an idiot while flipping burgers is, unarguably, the worst turn his life could’ve taken.
cw: sexual themes (+p5r spoilers)

“Hello! Would you like to try our Big Bang Special Combo Shot-Straight-Through Promotional Meal for ‘Thy Father of Corruption 2: The Daughter of Rejection’ for ¥850?”
Goro wanted to quit.
You need this job. You need this job. He’d repeat to himself each time a customer decided they were feeling peckish. You will have no money if you quit and then you will have no home and then you will drop out of college and then you will die.
He’d left the police department after graduating. With his past plans of an 18-year life expectancy having slipped down the drain, he hardly had a reason to stay. High school had been an uphill battle with cases of murder and robbery breathing down his neck, and he’d hesitated to even make an attempt at trying to juggle his priorities in university. Dropping the detective gig meant dropping the media attention, too, which gave him breathing room he certainly knew he needed, but never really had.
The problem was, after three years of fading out of fame and living off his savings, he realized this wouldn’t stretch as far as he’d predicted. He hadn’t accounted nearly enough for the expenses that came with the unwelcome enforcement of trying to live as a proper human being. His bank account was growing meager. If he wanted to keep living (which was arguable) in the way that he was (which he did) he’d need an income. Almost anything would do, as long as it would bend and break to his schedule.
And, all things considered, he technically had connections here. And ever since… that, the pay had actually increased to a respectable amount. The management had rehired, retrained, and improved. It was fast food, but it was livable. Nothing shameful about being livable.
And god fucking dammit he had already done three interviews with no hires and he needed food other than half-cooked ramen noodles and bread slices.
“Can I get you anything else, sir?”
That didn’t mean he didn’t loathe every minute.
It was bad enough that he had a job at Big Bang Burger. And, bad enough that he’d been desperate to get it. It was bad enough that he had to bring in his homework like some anguished used-to-be honors student now getting barely passing marks. And christ, it was bad enough each time a customer would walk in, a hamburger-shaped icepick would slam itself into his frontal lobe, forever ingraining the memory of his premeditated brain murder of the former CEO of this very restaurant.
All of that, and he couldn’t stress this more, was bad enough. It was entirely shitty all around. Completely awful, and damming, and humbling, though he hated to admit it. He’d like to say it couldn’t get any worse. That this was the end of the line, get off the train before it turns around, don’t get stuck in the never ending cycle of beef patties and sesame seed buns.
But, god, of all the coworkers.
“Ya know,” said Sakamoto, leaning down on the front counter after their customer had left,  “I dunno if clenching your teeth like you’ve got peanut butter stuck in there counts as ‘service with a smile.’”
Sakamoto Ryuji. The boy who had the opposite of a filter, and more like a megaphone spewing recordings of every profanity in the Japanese language. He, who had walked in on Goro’s second day and loudly declared, ‘I thought I smelled something, what’s this a-hole doing here?’ Really, who else could he tolerate spending eight-hour shifts with; greasy stoves, piss poor customers, and the ruthless scent of lysol on tile included?
Ah, right. Anyone else.
Goro pressed his lips together. “Hm. Well you know, I was almost certain that elbows on the counter was a fireable offense.”
Sakamoto snatched himself up in a second, elbows up high. He hung there and looked around the empty restaurant.
He pouted. “Not cool, dude. That’s only when there’s customers.”
Goro raised his eyebrows. He was really just going to stand there? He looked like an idiot, or a chicken. A hybrid that, if anyone could pull off, would be him. He was making a great show of it, too.
Sakamoto narrowed his eyes. “Unless you’re a snitch.”
Goro spoke in his most syrupy sweet voice. “Are you implying then, that your job is in my hands? An entertaining thought, Sakamoto.” If it were only that simple to really get him fired. Unfortunately, their manager seemed to love his enthusiasm. Every moment he spent enthusiastically mopping floors and singing into the handle was a moment Goro could’ve been writing soliloquies of his growing and newfound hatred for Carly Rae Jepsen.
Sakamoto folded his arms in a huff. “That’s what I’m talkin’ about, man! Look at that fake-ass smile.” He shook his head. “And I get customer service blows and stuff, but you use it for everything. Lighten up dude! Take a break.”
Sakamoto said things with such confidence, such surety. It made his teeth grind.
“I’d prefer to keep my job,” Goro said, and gave him the sweet smile Sakamoto was arguing against. “Though, if you’d like to pay my rent for me, you’re more than welcome.”
He acted like he hadn’t even heard him.“Maybe it’s ‘cause you’re so gloomy all the time, your face just doesn’t know how to work it. Look it, check me out.” Sakamoto pointed his thumb at himself and flashed a toothy smile. “Just like that! All natural, bro. It’s easy. Come on, you really try it this time.”
Goro very clearly did not. He stared with his most obsolete and ‘stop-trying-to-have-a-conversation-with-me’ look he could muster. He’d communicate it telepathically, if given the chance.
“That doesn’t look like trying to me,” Sakamoto said expectantly.
Couldn’t they just sit in silence and wait for their fabrication of getting-along time when the next inevitable customer came in? “Perhaps, and please let me know if this is too complicated, I simply have no intention of trying, because I don’t believe there’s anything to fix.”
“Nah, that’s not it,” replied Sakamoto, as if he was being thoughtful.
Another reason why he was completely obnoxious was because the longer they knew each other, the less that Goro’s flawless stone faced looks worked. Sakamoto kept spewing hot air. He’d gained some kind of tolerance, and it was tedious to work around.
Sakamoto leaned back down, previous elbow warnings forgotten. “I bet you’re the kinda guy who’s super ticklish, so you act all boring so no one suspects it.”
“I’m not,” Goro snapped.
“Quick reply there, buddy.”
Goro didn’t answer to that. He didn’t owe it to him. This was pointless; why did Sakamoto find such pleasure in talking about pointless things?
He slouched further down. “So it’s silent treatment now. You’re checking all the boxes over here.” He waved his finger through the air. “Check, n’ check, n’, check.”
Goro was getting a headache. “I don’t want to talk about this.”
“Betcha you’re super ticklish. And like, one of those cry-laughers.”
“Sakamoto, did you hear what I just said.”
He stretched up from his position on the counter. “Like if I poke you in the side, I bet it would make ya jump.”
“Do not.” He could just try it. Goro would bend his finger back so far it’d break. He wondered if that would be a viable option to get him to stop talking sometime.
“Didn’t say I was gonna.” He rested his arms behind his neck. “You’re just proving my point more, though.”
Sakamoto was annoyingly stubborn at times. Once he found a niche with Goro, he’d hack his way in and grab on like a tick. Bother him like it was his last chance he’d ever get, as if they didn’t work shifts together four times a week. He was bound to get lyme disease at this rate.
Goro felt like a very frustrated pair of tweezers.“Can we talk about anything else, please?”
Sakamoto went quiet. He was just looking at him now. Goro tensed up. Was he really going to try and poke him? He meant it, he’d break his hand.
“Ya know, there is something I wanna talk to you about,” he said.
Goro did not like the sound of that. “Oh really.” He tried to sound like he was just told he was about to be given a lecture on the intricacies and details of lentil soup. Which, perhaps could be more interesting than whatever topic Sakamoto was about to pull out of his ass.
Sakamoto sniffed. “Yup. It’s about Akira.”
Oh, he really didn’t like where this was going. “Sakamoto, I—”
“When’re ya gonna like, confess.”
Goro visibly winced. Dammit. He knew he’d bring this up one day. He was absolutely infuriated Sakamoto knew about that, and he hadn’t even told him. He’d been making guesses and Goro had been just tired enough during his shift to let a hint of a sigh out, and Sakamoto had taken that to new heights. Another example of conversations being had that Goro would’ve just about died to get out of.
Sakamoto was still staring at him. Didn’t he have anything better to do? Goro knew they didn’t at this good for nothing job, but what was so hard about just acting like you’re busy. You’re pretending then, at least, and that’s something.
“Well, dude?” asked Sakamoto.
Any conversation is better than that one.
Mother of fuck.
“I…” Goro started, adjusting a piece of his hair, “I suppose I am a little ticklish.”
Sakamoto’s face lit up. “Dude, for real? Called it,” he said triumphantly. Had Goro not known him as well as he did, he’d think the divergence in conversation was a trick to get him to admit he was a bit… touchy. But he did know him, and he wasn’t one for games like that.
“Most people are, it shouldn’t be a surprise. It’s skin sensitivity, nothing more.”
Sakamoto shrugged. “Still funny you admitted to it.”
Sure. Very hilarious. Yet another fact Sakamoto now knows about him that he’d really have rather not shared under any circumstance.
“Satisfied, now?” Goro asked, but it wasn’t really a question. He didn’t plan on expanding, this was embarrassing enough as it was.
“Nope,” he replied, “cause that’s great and all, but I really gotta know the game plan.” He leaned in close to Goro, and he in turn leaned farther away.
“There’s no ‘game plan,’ Sakamoto. Please don’t get so close to me.”
“Yeah, yeah, sorry.” He moved back, obviously not finished. “Come on, though, you gotta have something.” And back down on the counter he slouched.
‘Something,’ he’d said. Yes, and that something was to keep his mouth shut and go about his life keeping each and every one of those mortifying feelings to himself. It was humiliating enough that Sakamoto knew. Telling Akira? He didn’t even want to imagine it. He’d rather face Okumura-san herself and ask her to buy one of their Shot-Straight-Through combo meals.
“There’s nothing. And I don’t plan there to be anything. And, it’s not really much of your business, is it?” Goro could feel himself growing irritated.
Sakamoto melted further into the counter. “I just don’t get why you’re not gonna ask him out if you like him. You might as well, man, it’ll be fine.”
What simple ways of thinking. Do this, get that in return. Black and white, and right and wrong. Spill your fleeting moment of vulnerability and try not to think about the extensive hole of commitment you’re burying yourself in. One turn of phrase, one word, one misplaced breath to Akira would forever rupture the sorry excuse of acquaintanceship they’d been flip flopping through for the past three years. Akira was a blank slate and simultaneously the person he knew best. He knew him, but didn’t really, and he could never tell what he was thinking. Suddenly he was gambling again, and this time it came entirely unwelcome. Risks you face before death and risks that you’ll keep living through no matter the outcome tasted different. One was tangy and sweet and thrilling, the other was bitter  shit. Not to mention that Akira was too kind to him for his own good. He couldn’t even tell what was a lie.
But, Sakamoto didn’t need to know all that. “You say that like there’s nothing to consider. As if I’ve never even given this thought. You do not belong in my head, Sakamoto. And I do not need to give you, an obvious outsider on the entire dilemma, any sort of justification for why I’m going to continue to abstain on something as trivial as a confession.”
Sakamoto huffed at him. “What if I said that I gua-ran-tee he’s not gonna say no to you.”
Goro was already sick of this. What, had Sakamoto expected his heart to skip? His pulse to rise? That just the very thought of mutual feelings would send him into some flustered mess? Please. He told the tingling feeling going up through his legs and down his arms and up the back of his neck to shut the fuck up.
He couldn’t stay quiet for long. Sakamoto could and would get ideas. “Then why doesn’t he just tell me that himself? Why are you playing wingman for him?”
“Cause he’s not gonna say anything cause he’s got to be worried that he’s gonna freak you and your crazy attachment issues out!”
Of course, there it was. The blind bet. Sakamoto’s one-way thinking at it again, and Goro would not have it. “I’m not going to start playing some game with him about the complexities of whatever idea of consent he has in his head. I don’t need his sympathy, and I am certainly not looking for it. I don’t have time for something messy and half-assed. I don’t want that, and surely he doesn’t, either. If he feels any way about me, he’d ought to tell me, because then maybe we’d find some kind of leeway. But I will not let him sit there and wait for me to make the first move, like a key element in his plan. This is not some teenage romance, and I am not a caricature of his love life. He can wait patiently all he’d like, but I’m perfectly content as I am now.”
Sakamoto seemed a little stunned.
“Man, he’s just…” He trailed off. They sat in silence.
So ways still existed to get Sakamoto to stop rambling on. He was sure he’d regret saying this later, for a multitude of reasons. He didn’t hate Sakamoto, even saying dislike felt strong, but he always talked about things that Goro had no interest nor inclination to discuss. Maybe silence was for the best between them, for now.
“He loves you, you know? He’s just afraid of admitting it. That’s all it is, dude,” said Sakamoto.
Goro inhaled. So he wasn’t done, then. “Love… is an entirely different conversation.”
“Okay, fine, you want me to say he ‘like-likes’ you like some fifth grader? Cause he does.”
Goro didn’t reply. He’d made his point.
“He isn’t playing one of your weirdo mind games,” Sakamoto continued. “I think you’re thinking too hard about this. He’s just a guy. He just wants to make sure you’re all comfortable and shit. Cause it’s not like we don’t all know the bullshit that was goin’ on for you.”
“I am not looking for his pity.” A fine thing to say while working at a Big Bang Burger in a bright yellow shirt and starred apron. It didn’t matter. He didn’t wear this with pride, per say, but he wouldn’t ask someone to feel sorry for him.
He didn’t exactly want to be seen, either. Especially not Akira, but of course he’d make habits of visiting. That was just like him, and it was just like his pity, too.
Sakamoto looked frustrated. “He ain’t pitying you, man! He’s tryin’ to respect you! He knows you got things to go through on your own and he’s trying to give you space and everything.”
Goro clicked his tongue. “If you know that’s his tactic, why are you trying to pressure me into this?”
“Cause I don’t care, dude!” Sakamoto said, and then stopped himself, and promptly looked very guilty. “Well, okay. I do care. Like, I do. But sometimes…” He looked like he was trying to pick his words out carefully. He had an idea, just no way to form it.
He settled. “Sometimes, you just gotta get laid, man.”
At this point, Goro found himself shocked that he wasn’t banging his own head against the counter.
“Excuse me?”
“You’re twenty one years old! Dude, I know you haven’t gotten any,” Sakamoto argued. “Your gay ass with emotional problems? Get outta here.”
“This is not—”
Sakamoto put his hands up nonshalontly. “And like, yeah, no judgey stuff, take your time if you gotta. But have you considered it? Tell me. I betcha you haven’t.”
Goro opened his mouth, expecting to reply with an incredibly well thought out ‘fuck off,’ but the automatic doors slid open, and suddenly Goro was all smiles and greetings, so what came out instead was, “Hello! Welcome to Big Bang Burger! Would you—ah.”
Sakamoto snorted loudly, and Goro wanted to kick him so bad.
And actually, what was stopping him? Sakamoto had earned this, and it’s not like this customer would care.
Because, who else could’ve been just about summoned by the trouble than Kurusu Akira himself; strolling in so casually through the doors, like he hadn’t just become the most unpleasant topic of conversation Goro had ever had with Sakamoto. Speak of the devil was an understatement, or perhaps he was the devil himself.
“What the eff, man!”
“Hey you two,” said Akira, hands in his pockets and clearly bagless. He didn’t even register Goro’s kick, like that was just some normal occurrence. Somehow, that made him angrier.
“Yo,” said Sakamoto, recovering annoyingly quickly. Goro wondered if he should’ve considered breaking his finger.
Sakamoto reached out to Akira for a fist bump. “You don’t have the cat with ya?”
Akira bumped him back. “Nope. Just me today.”
“Sweet,”  Sakamoto replied, a smile growing wide. Goro hated the look. It was the hungriest and most dastardly shit-eating grin he’d ever seen him dare to make. So, knowing Sakamoto and his terrible poker face, he had thought up some idiotic ploy.
“What’s up with you?” Akira asked, and thank god it wasn’t directed at Goro. Sakamoto’s obviousness did not go unnoticed.
“Oh nothin’, nothin’,” said Sakamoto, entirely conspicuously, “I gotta go, though, grind never stops. Super secret stuff in the back.”
Goro glared at him. So now he would pretend to be busy?
“Burger secrets,” Akira said, and Ryuji gave him a finger gun in reply. He walked off without a word, but apparently felt the inclination to jerk his head back at Goro, as if he didn’t know what he was doing.
He sighed. No amount of alone time would ever compel Goro to confess at a Big Bang Burger, of all places. At least Akira tended to be a little more bearable in conversation. He hoped he’d be an in and out customer. “Can I get you anything?”
Akira looked at him for a moment. “You look flustered.”
Goro felt himself twitch. He wasn’t flustered, like some preteen who can’t hear the word genital without bursting into laughter. If anything, Sakamoto had caught him off guard with his stupidity. He obviously was not one to be so affected by such a topic. He was an adult, and a professional. He would again not think about the fact he was wearing an orange visor right now.
“I’m positive that isn’t a menu item,” he replied, keeping his pleasant smile plastered on, keeping any stray annoyance from showing.
Akira examined him closer. “Do you have a fever or something? You look red.”
Goro drummed his fingers against the counter impatiently. What was he supposed to say? Sorry, Akira, Sakamoto just decided to kindly push the image of you railing me as a form of twisted therapy into the forefront of my consciousness. Would you like any drinks?
“I’m fine. I’m not the type to go to work sick,” he decided on instead.
“Really?” He didn’t seem convinced.
Goro folded his arms. “While living in a society where health is determined by the trust of the majority, I have no plans to spread my germs to an unsuspecting businessman, in that I expect the same from him.”
Akira considered that for a moment. “So you’re embarrassed, then.”
Goro’s expression turned sour. He was not in the mood for a debate. “Everyone seems to be presuming things today, have I missed a memo?”
Akira didn’t miss a beat. “Ryuji said something?”
Goro dragged his fingernails into his palm. He was hardly being that obvious, he wasn’t a bumbling idiot who couldn’t keep a straight face. Akira was just acutely good at reading people, (namely, reading him) and it drove Goro up the wall. It was unfair, for one thing, since Akira continued to maintain blank expressions in the face of clowns and hookers, keeping his inner thoughts kept behind lock and key. And, as of more recently, he was the one person Goro really desperately wanted to hide every wandering emotion from possible. Just his luck, fall for the bastard who analyzes people as a side job for his savior-complex living.
This was making him more frustrated. “Would you just order?”
Akira looked at the menu, but Goro knew it was bullshit. He ordered the same thing every time— a shake and a burger, no tomatoes. He certainly already knew what he wanted, but was just causing trouble in the meantime. What an annoyance. Goro punched it in, and made no moves to go and cook. If Sakamoto was going to have his “business” in the back, then he could stay there and do his job.
“Sit over there, we’ll bring it to you when it’s done,” he said, and Akira silently obliged. He gave a small smile before he turned, leaving Goro completely alone with his thoughts as he sat at his table and scrolled through his phone.
He couldn’t believe the timing of Sakamoto’s distasteful comment to Akira’s unseasonable entrance. Things always seemed to fall into place with Goro, just not the right places. The right place, but a little down, and to the left, the left, he said. He wished Sakamoto would mind his own business, let him quietly pine until his untimely death; which kept getting put off, might he add.
Sakamoto emerged from the back end of the restaurant. He was holding the bag of presumably Akira’s food, and his shake. He waved them enthusiastically.
“Go on, dude,” he smirked.
Goro was blunt. “No.” He’d pissed him off enough today. He wasn’t going to walk over there and serve the food. Sakamoto’s little idea of love, romance and marriage in a burger joint would have to wait. Ideally, it would get itself stuck in wet concrete, and drown way down under where no one could see it and where the light of day would never reach.
Sakamoto seemed to catch his drift. “Jeez, fine. Huffy, huffy.”
He walked over to Akira with a spring in his step, and they started chatting idly. Goro couldn’t hear. In all honesty, he was trying to tune them out. His headache was growing worse. Pounding in his head, every light too bright and repetitive music blurring together his thoughts. And of course there was the elephant in the room, who was whispering to him Sakamoto’s crude suggestions, and the irritating notion that maybe he was right, just a little bit.
He needed to get himself together. He was acting like some horny teenager. Get fucked, you raunchy elephant.
Sakamoto left to let him eat, and made a show of going back to the other end of the restaurant, all while wiggling his eyebrows at Goro. In turn, Goro made a show of rolling his eyes and planting himself facing away from Akira. It made Sakamoto laugh, for whatever reason, and Goro just ignored him.
He watched the door idly and tried to relax. He’d been clenching his teeth, and his jaw ached. He tried to focus to get his headache to fade into obscurity. He couldn’t find much to concentrate on, was his issue. Other than the obvious, which he would ignore without remorse. He wanted to go home. No lights too bright there, no sloppily cleaned windows, and especially no crush (the word left a bad taste in his mouth. Boy who has left him emotionally compromised after giving him no reason to deny he had worth in the world and keeps him up at night thinking about the way he really tried to will him back into existence when he could, god, have anything else in the world, and he wanted him. Was that a better option?) sitting out of view, chewing quietly and doing absolutely nothing to draw so much attention to himself.  At home he could drown it all out in a cold bath, and let himself think of nothing but his numbing toes and pruning fingers.
“Hey, catch,” Akira said, suddenly there and startling Goro out of his bathlike daydream. He tossed something onto the counter. Goro did not catch it.
It was a napkin, all folded up in a careful way. It didn’t hold the shape well, but the intention was pretty clear. “Um. A crane?”
“Yup. Present for you.” he started, rubbing his neck, and he had the nerve to look bashful. “I got bored.”
Goro hadn’t noticed him making it. Which, alright, did make sense, he was purposefully keeping his neck away from that entire half of the restaurant. “Sorry we aren’t quite the height of entertainment here.” Goro lightly touched its head. He didn’t know Akira knew how to make these. “Well, thank you, I guess.”
Akira pushed his glasses further up his nose. “You’re welcome to name him.”
“I think that I won’t.”
“That can be pretty trendy, too,” he replied. “I’ve gotta go. Class. Tell Ryuji I say bye.”
“Bye, dude!” Sakamoto shouted from the back. There was that tiresome enthusiasm again.
It made Akira smile.“Nevermind, then. See you.”
Goro just barely lifted his hand by the wrist to wave. “Bye.”
Akira turned, gave him a small trill of his fingers, and left. Sakamoto did not return to his exit, and Goro savored the moment. It was just him and the crane, now.
It was pretty shoddy. Unfolding, and barely standing up on its own. Cheap paper napkins were not the ideal material for origami, it seemed. He watched it slowly fall apart, wings losing shape and the head relaxing into its neck. Akira had hardly stayed long, so that meant he was probably pretty good at this sort of thing. He wouldn’t have guessed.
…He thought about how it might look on proper paper. The creases sharp and crisp, the ends pointed and still. What would Akira’s hands look like while they worked? He could hear the sounds of the folding, and the wedging, clean paper being bent and rippled. Delicate fingers, working through, meticulously checking every last inch. Sometimes a pinch, just where it’s needed. And then finished, folded tight, wrapped together in itself. Very quick work, with the touch of a hand.
“The heck is that?” Sakamoto said, getting an actual jump out of Goro.
“What?” he gasped, and took a second to collect his thoughts. At work. Sakamoto came back. In a Big Bang Burger. Headache present. Good fucking god. “It’s just…” He pressed his fingers into the side of his temple “It’s a paper crane. Akira made it.”
Sakamoto let that sink in.“You tellin me you were just sitting here staring at the thing Akira made you?”
“I wasn’t,” Goro replied, trying desperately to catch his breath as casually as possible.
“Uh, you literally were.” Sakamoto got uncomfortably close to him again. Goro physically moved away, because now was not the time.
It didn’t deter Sakamoto whatsoever. He put his hands on his hips and gave an annoying grin. “Bro, you gotta tell him… You’ve obviously got it preeetty bad.”
Goro was fed up with this. This conversation needed to end, or he thought he might explode. “I don’t ‘have it bad,’ Sakamoto, stop bringing this up.”
Sakamoto smirked at him. “You so do though, is the thing.”
“I don’t. Leave me alone.”
He shrugged his shoulders, and kept his mouth shut. He was acting so haughty, like he’d won the argument. Which, he hadn’t, for the record.
That stupid crane. All it’d done was make things worse. And what was it even doing? Sitting here crumbling away into uselessly folded paper. A cheap napkin made of other recycled cheap napkins. Clean and crisp paper was a long sought after dream, a fantasy and nothing more.
You know, this was just it, really. This is what he meant. Akira would try and fold him up and he’d inevitably fall back down. He didn’t know just what fantastic method he’d try, but it wouldn’t matter— he was made of what he was made of, and nothing would hold him up. Trying was pointless, risking for naught, it would be better for everyone if he stayed just how he was and didn’t overstay his use.
He would not fit into Akira’s plans or his pities. He couldn’t.
“…Bruh. What does that even mean.”
Ah? “What?“ No. He had not said that out loud. Sakamoto did not just hear all that nonsense.
Sakamoto was giving him a funny look. “You’re not a napkin, man.”
God, shit. Shit shit shit. “I— I know that, this is just—“ The unpleasant feeling of blood rushing to his face was just as intolerable as it was unpreventable.
“For real? Cause you sure sounded like you were calling yourself a napkin.”
Absolutely unbelievable. How unruly was he that he’d just spouted all that like it was nothing? He couldn’t believe he had to explain himself now, but letting him get ideas was undeniably worse. “It’s supposed to be… symbolic, Sakamoto.”
He could practically see the gears turning in his head. That wasn’t something difficult to understand, you dunce. Every second of this humiliating scene felt like a knife turning in his back.
“Why does your brain work in such effed up ways. You gotta work on that,” Sakamoto said, not letting up his judgemental look.
He crossed his arms, trying to make his mortification appear like annoyance. “Don’t you start with me. As if you ever have something useful to say. At least I’m— I’m thinking, here.”
That riled him up a bit. “I’m thinkin’! I almost flunked literature so maybe I’m not so good at this analysis stuff, but you know what? Hear me out.” Goro did not want to hear him out. He continued despite that. “I get it, you got your problems. But I really don’t think you callin’ yourself some shitty crane is fair, you know? Like, you’re a whole guy.”
He did not appreciate how genuine Sakamoto was acting. It was odd, and it felt awkward coming from him. He didn’t want to feel guilty for being rude to him earlier, either. Just another topic to bother him to sleep.
Sakamoto went on. “Gahhh, it feels weird sayin’ this but like, you’re not a napkin, okay! And Akira doesn’t think so either. You’re more… complicated. Napkins don’t pay taxes or anything.”
Ah, alright. So it was mostly bullshit. He could ease the guilt away in one fell swoop.
Goro’s disinterest seemed to show itself well to Sakamoto. “Just, okay. Lemme get my thoughts here. You gotta like… be your own first step. I didn’t get my own shit sorted out until I actually tried to. And I’m not sayin it’s easy to do. But Imma tell you right now your first step is gonna be to stop thinking you’re a napkin or a bucket or a plate of green beans or whatever else you come up with. And I mean it, man.”
Goro knew he had things to say to that. He had thought out replies and phrases that Sakamoto would need more headspace to begin to understand. But none of them came to him. So he decided to stay threateningly quiet.
It was well received. “Okay okay, you’re gettin’ mad, I can tell. I’m gonna take my break,” Sakamoto relented, and turned on his heel. “I ain’t really trying to tell ya what to do but give it a thinking about, alright? ‘Least for Akira’s sake,” he said over his shoulder, and left Goro almost more alone than before.
It wasn’t even Akira’s sake Goro was worried about. Not in the way Sakamoto seemed to think. And he didn’t need to be told he wasn’t some inanimate object, he wasn’t that out of mind.
Any sort of sensible argument would have to come to him after the fact, apparently. To tell him this wouldn’t be a “first step,” more like a hundredth. How many paces did crawling out of the hole he’d buried himself in count for? How many miles had he gone by now, barefoot and bleeding all the way.
Such a stupid conversation. Needless, too, since for whatever reason his filter decided to leave him to fend for himself. Just another addition to this embarrassing excuse of a shift today.
The paper crane sat still on the counter, though it hardly resembled one anymore. He almost felt bad. He had his typical pit in his stomach, but nothing exactly to pinpoint it on. Was he wallowing in that much self-loathing?
Perhaps.
Goro adamantly refused to have any more dramatic revelations at his part time job, so any introspections would have to come later.
He put the crumpled crane in his pocket. It was certainly not going to be a crane once he took it out again, but he didn’t really know what else to do with it. Throwing it away felt wrong, to him. Though he wasn’t sure exactly what he was going to do with it when he got home.
Akira hadn’t given this to him in hopes of causing some mental anguish. Or at least, he assumed so. Sakamoto had said he didn’t play mind games, but if not those, what was he doing? It felt better to know it was a game, in that way there was something about Akira’s mystery of a consciousness he could pry through.
Was he reading into things? For sure. Reading too deeply into anything had been a talent of his for as long as he could remember. It had saved his life before, many times and in the most difficult of times.
This crane wasn’t life threatening, but it felt like it was. Not in the thrilling way, but in the shitty way.
His shift was over soon. Which reminded him, Sakamoto had surely already taken his break. He was a dip, but Goro preferred his own thoughts to any conversation they’d had today. And that was saying something, since getting out of his own head was a much needed relief that he’d take almost any chance he got.
He was overthinking, and there was nothing he could do about it. He would continue to overthink until someone stole his brain and dunked it in acid. Where was the enjoyment otherwise? It was all he knew how to do.
And even he didn’t overthink this— if Akira had given this to him in earnest and in playfulness, and if Sakamoto hadn’t been overtly pulling his leg through their shifts today. There wasn’t even anything remarkable about it. If there was a chance that maybe things were just okay, and getting better, and he wasn’t a living metaphor for a tissue. Oh just, say he invited him out for coffee, and Akira surprised him with a new little creation, less spur of the moment and made something almost sweet. He’d never drop his pride so low as to ask for a lesson, but if he did, maybe he could learn to make something, too. And maybe he wouldn’t hate every moment of it, and maybe he’d like getting so close, and maybe he’d appreciate the mistakes as much as the praises.
…Hm.
That was just a fantasy, of course. And surely, nothing was all that great about it. Anything could go wrong in any number of ways, his own interventions just one category.
Maybe it was the headache, or the dragging on shift, or the terrible lights, or the distant humming of his coworker, but Goro must’ve been caught off guard today. Because otherwise, why else would he have thought, not long and not convincingly, but still a thought as present as can be, that maybe, despite everything.
It could be nice. Just for a little bit. Maybe that didn’t sound quite so bad.
Not so bad at all.

I am very curious, you seem quite active in the fandom, and I wanted to know why would you recommend High Rise Invasion? Sorry for the anon, I wanted to ask someone and you were one of the first to pop up.
Well Anon I’m indeed one of the few persons still active in the tumblr part of the fandom tho I’m sure if I’m forgetting something the others will pitch in ;) Warning, this got longer than I thought xD
There are a few things I want to make clear first, it’s the main topics it deals with because if you’re not good with those, you probably won’t want to read it anyway: it’s very gory (right from the first page) and suicide is a big plot point, highlighted from the beginning (3rd chapter iirc).
Also just a premise as I’m not sure how well informed you are about it: Yuri (16, high school student) got suddenly on top of a high rise building and in front of her someone is brutally murdered by someone with a mask. She manages to call her brother who was also transported to this world. They plan to meet so they can get tf out but to do that, they have to avoid getting killed. And murderous masked people are everywhere.
This is a survival manga above all but there is a plot apart from "I want to go back home” however it’s in itself slightly spoilery so I won’t touch it here and let you discover it if you do read it!
Now why would I recommend High-Rise Invasion.. Good question! Short answer: it’s actually pretty good! You may have heard the end was crap: it’s false, since it’s not over yet, there’s a sequel called Tenkuu Shinpan Arrive (unsure of the english name, if there’s one) and it’s still being serialized. Given how long HRI is (258 chapters), there’s no telling when TSA will be over, considering there are currently only 65 released chapters (it’s published weekly).
Long answer:
First of all, the characters. The characters are amazing and the main cast is exceptional. They’re all well constructed, three-dimensional, fully fleshed out, flawed and deeply human. The story is mainly character driven, more than plot driven so it’s important that the main characters are actually good. In the YouTube comments under the trailer, I’ve read some people call our MC a Mary Sue. If you’ve seen similar comments, don’t believe them. Yuri is very much not a Mary Sue. She’s a teenager trying to survive.
Also the main antagonist is charismatic af and very good so if you like antags, don’t worry, HRI’s got your back.
Still first but slightly to the left: the art and chara designs. The art is exceptional. It evolves quickly from the art of the first volumes to what will stay and frankly it’s very good. I aspire to that level of movement and details. Also I’ve mentioned the antag is charismatic but for real, most the characters are. They all slap. The designs, the body language, the expressions, it’s all gold. The fandom wife is a very good example of that: even characters that don’t appear much leave a lasting impression. (the fandom husband is also a very very good example of the sheer badassery, charisma and other character amazingness present in HRI but, unlike the fandom wife, he’s a main character)
Second of all, you’ve heard of “romance saved the day”, you’ve heard of “by the power of friendship I’ll defeat this evil”, you’ve heard of “I’ll save the world, it’s my duty!” now get ready for “if you touch my family I will obliterate you”. The story is (almost entirely) family powered. Honestly it’s refreshing, from my point of view, especially since I have a soft spot for good families in fiction. As said in the premise, what drives Yuri is the fact she has to find her brother - and what drives her brother is that he has to find Yuri. All the other characters are linked to them in some way, pushed and pulled by their familial link. People they’ve helped, people they teamed up with, people they thought they had lost, etc. Ultimately, the story is character driven, as said before, but in a way that’s very family centered. Not only, of course, some of the MCs are outside of that and are still quite driving the plot, but family is an extremely important part.
Third of all, the romance. There is one (1) romance and it’s wlw in a way that is very natural, not forced, not fetishized or anything*. Plus, if you’re like me and you’re not fond of romance in general, it’s generally not thrown in our face. I mean, they’re canon and stuff but for real it’s very avoidable if needed for romance repulsion reasons. It’s a goddamn survival manga, after all xD
There are other queer side characters, some more subtext than others (more apparent in japanese than in MangaBox’s official English translation from what I’ve been told and judging from the French translation - which is the one I own)
*there is fanservice all along the manga, as in flashing boobs and panties all the time but the relationship itself is not fetishized.
Last of all, you can’t get bored, no filler chapter, no filler arc. Miura’s writing is very fast paced, there’s always something going on - and the something always serves the plot, even if it doesn’t become apparent at first. It’s all tightly knot in a way I really like - though ik it’s not always to everyone’s taste haha!
DONE!
Now if you don’t mind, I have to give some warnings. I gave the warnings for suicide but let me say it again. It’s very important. Also, warning for child abuse and sexual predators - minor occurrences but just in case ^-^
Also: I recently made a sideblog for High Rise Invasion where I share official art and stuff so if you want to take a look at Oba’s art or previews of the anime (scheduled for February 2021), you can head over to @highriseinvasion

🍒COMMISSIONS !🍒
Tumblr media Tumblr media
after much consideration and planning, I’ve decided to open commissions! this is more of a test run than anything, so I will be opening up 10 slots to begin with!! meaning I will be accepting only 10 separate commissions/people max.
let me preface this by saying that me posting this doesn’t make you obligated in any way to commission me and give me your money. There are so many of you that have supported me for literal years, and I appreciate that more than i can ever articulate! this is just an opportunity for me to make some extra savings (since my account has been absolutely RAVAGED ever since the end of last year) and for u to commission anything you’d like to read!!
also, i debated for literal days about pricing and ran through several other outside opinions,,, and i think that these are the best middle ground i can find. I wanted to use an easy payment medium and decided ko-fi would be best, hence how the prices increase by a standard ko-fi each time. I want to keep them as affordable as possible while also taking into consideration how much time and brain space i will need to complete each one. I tried my best to keep prices respectful of you while still respecting me!
ALSO to keep things organised and such, I will be running these through ko-fi and another sideblog i have attached to my main! that way nothing will get lost in this inbox and it will all be in one place-- i will still be posting them to this blog, jincherie, tho! regarding payments, they will be made through ko-fi. first, message/ask me your commission details (ie what u want) on @jooniecherie and once I agree, then comes payment, and then I start working on it!
🍒 all commissions will be sent & organised through @jooniecherie 🍒
QUICK SUMMARY:
I will be opening 10 slots for commissions! one person per slot, ie. 10 people.
You can commission 2 pieces max per person.
I will be organising commissions through my sideblog @jooniecherie. they will still be posted here on jincherie!
payment etc will also be organised through ko-fi. payment is to be done after I accept the commission, and I will write after receiving it.
see below for rules & what I won’t write
Tumblr media
WHAT I WON’T WRITE
I will not write:
Dub-con, non-con—I am not comfortable writing anything regarding rape
Underage— I am not comfortable writing things where the character/s are underage or minors (for this reason I’d like to avoid high school settings).
Abuse— sexual, verbal, physical, etc
Substance abuse— drugs and alcohol. Characters going out for drinks is okay, but I won’t write excessive use and abuse of those things.
Sensitive topics regarding mental health— ie. self harm and suicide. Mild anxiety and depression are okay as I have experience with those, but I would prefer to avoid anything heavy.
Certain kinks— I will tell you if what you want is something I’m not comfortable with.
COMMISSION RULES
I will not write smut for minors/anyone under 18
aside from the fact it isn’t something I am comfortable doing, it is illegal for me to knowingly and purposefully distribute pornographic materials to minors. Please understand. It is for this reason that if you wish to commission smut, I will be asking for your age. Please don’t lie to me in your answer!
Please give me direction, but don’t give me too much!
Things like this work best when I know what you want, but still have room to exercise creative freedom!
If you’re not comfortable with me posting your commission, please let me know!
Ideally, I’d really like to be posting the ones that I’d do, so if you’re not comfortable with that (ie. if it’s personalised) let me know and I can find a way to send it to you privately.
Each person will be able to commission 2 pieces max.
This is because I want to do as much as I can for everyone, and I don’t want to get overloaded or burnt out!!
Tumblr media
if u have any questions,, pls feel free to send them to me and I’ll be happy to answer!! thank u for reading this and considering supporting me!!! <3

i see a lot of 13 yr olds on tumblr these days, so id like to share some advice i wish i had known using tumblr at age 13.
this is also probably not an original idea from me lol, someone has got to have done this before. i would usually put this under a cut but ive decided not to for now
be aware that this site is like NOTORIOUSLY harmful. you may think you’re above it or too mature for it to hurt you, but trust me, you aren’t. since you will probably not be stopped by that warning, maybe take some precautions/keep some stuff in mind to stay safe.
i had tumblr savior for my first experiences with the site. im pretty sure it still works and it’s regularly updated, so take a look into that. it blocks posts with certain keywords from being seen on your radar, and can also push/allow posts with other keywords to always be shown. i would advise getting it or a similar extension to custom block triggering/harmful content.
don’t put other/more popular users in your fandom/community on a pedestal. they’re people behind a blog, just like you are. don’t feel intimidated by the people in your own community, they are just people the same way you are a person. they can mess up at times, and so can you.
making friends is a great thing on this site, but keep an eye on new online friends’ behaviors. it is exciting to meet new people, but you want to be aware of toxic friends. same goes for your mutuals. overall, keep people on this site at an arm’s length until you’ve gotten to know them enough personally to know that they’re genuine people. as you get older you can relax on this, but as a young teen it’s better to be hyperaware than to be blissfully ignorant as you get hurt.
onto more broad things, your theme doesn’t have to be perfect. you dont have to make a custom html/edited html website theme for your blog, you can leave it as tumblr default. if you enjoy organizing that, then by all means go ahead! but don’t feel like it is necessary for your blog, most of the time you will get a new theme set up and check on it on a month and find that it actually looks terrible to you. if you’d rather just have it as a basic/default site, then that is perfectly normal.
your blog’s theme/topic is your choice, and can be uniquely you. some people have many blogs for many things, just a few, or just one with everything. it is up to you how you want to do it! the themes you choose, topics, are up to you. fads and trends are cool but finding what works for you personally is way more fun. your blog is supposed to be fun. you are supposed to enjoy using tumblr. don’t compromise that for a trend. make your blog(s) however you want, however it pleases you. it can feel pressuring to have a perfect blog, but it’s better to just make your appearance the way it would make you happy.
also, tag systems are awesome! but they are not necessary unless you’re tagging trigger warnings. always tag those! but i know a lot of people have personal tagging systems to organize their blog, which is totally cool! but again, personal tag systems are not necessary, and if they feel unnecessary to you, don’t use them. but again, tag triggering content, especially if you are asked to.
archiving/deleting/creating new blogs is a whole other process. some people like to start with a clean slate every time they switch to a new fandom, and let their old user be archived or deleted. this is perfectly respectable (and probably the right thing to do) personally, i just switch my blog over to whatever im feeling that month and people can unfollow if they no longer enjoy my blog (i dont have that big of a following on this blog). it’s really a personal decision, and if you want to restart your blog you will know when to/if you want to.
reblog art, but never “repost” it. aka dont take the image and post it on your own blog, just reblog it from the original poster. its common sense but not everyone knows? idk
if you end up having some or many followers, make sure to check yourself. appreciate your followers, respect them. they are people with blogs. just like you. don’t let a high number inflate your ego way out of proportion, it’s easy to fall into that sense of power.
respect people’s pronouns. even if you for some reason have a disagreement with them, or you don’t understand why/how their identity works, just use the correct pronouns that they ask you to. it costs you zero dollars and zero cents, and is incredibly respectful
as a young teen, don’t get involved/let yourself get buried in tumblr-wide discourse. examples of this include the bi vs pan debate, flag discourse etc. most ppl who i know who were attentive to things similar to that at a young age ended up being affected negatively by it. pay some attention to what pertains to you and also pay attention to what you can identify as right or wrong, but don’t let people’s opinions on your dash influence you in times of discourse. go and look at both sides of those kinds of debates if you’re interested, and form an opinion from there.
speaking of which, sometimes people will just post their takes on literally anything and youll come across it. take everything with a grain of salt unless there is links to proof (if applicable, not always needed). sometimes bad takes just havent had someone to reblog and disprove yet.
speaking of discourse, there is always discourse on this site in every fandom, every community. form your own opinions always, but keep your moral compass in mind. don’t compromise your morals and sense of right and wrong to enjoy certain fan-media. if something seems off, it probably is.
people make mistakes, and if someone did something kind of shitty/had a terrible take/belief (not irredemably shitty, those ppl do not need ur attention) and they genuinely apologize for the shit they did and learn from it, move on. leave some shit in the past, holding grudges isnt good for your mental health and people change. but again, always take things with a grain of salt.
you dont need a high follower count to get traction on your posts. it might help, but you can have a low follower count with high interaction or a high follower count with little to know interaction. the best advice i have is to tag what it is relevant to, whether it’s a fandom, aesthetic, etc and people who regularly check those tags will find it.
if you ever get anon hate for some reason, just delete it from ur inbox n move on. ppl who send anon hate want to see you post it and respond to it. if they said some really really MEAN shit though, it may be best to talk to a friend about it for comfort, or take a break from tumblr for a hot min. most importantly, report it, close your ask box/change it to no anonymous asks.
if at some point you choose to voice your opinion about a highly debated topic at the time, be aware that people who disagree might attack you for it. be aware, and be safe about it.
a lot of people swear by xkit. i have never used it in my life, but from the looks of it, it makes using tumblr so much more bearable. it breaks sometimes with tumblr updates, but apparently it’s worth it. again, look into it, but it’s not necessary to use the site.
do niche shit. start sideblogs without a plan in mind. make aus, make art, make writing, or make nothing at all. reblog the things you love wherever you want them to be reblogged. comment on people’s creations if you love them, they probably would love to hear how much you enjoyed it. appreciate how wonderful the better part of this site is, enjoy the free access to view and appreciate others’ creations and ideas.
i would put a lot more on here, but i feel like 20 is probably too much already. if anyone has anything to add, definitely rb with ur addition
overall, do the things you love on here, keep yourself safe, and be respectful of others.

braveeno replied to your post “I personally like the idea of Shuichi getting hurt or killed, because...”
But Kaede’s arc is not as well developed as Kaito’s. Yes, She grew desperate to kill, but at the very end, she gets sanitized of any wrong doing, so her actions and her reasons are nearly invalidated because all Shuichi sees her as his dead girlfriend.
She died more so for Shuichi’s development than Kaito. When she dies, she becomes an object of Shuichi’s guilt until Ch6, in which she is proven innocent and turned into a martyr, her flaws seemingly erased.
Of course Kaede's arc wasn't as developed as Kaito's, because it didn't have nearly as much time to be. Both she and Kaito had somewhat similar arcs about selflessly wanting to do anything they could to protect everyone around them, feeling like they’d failed in their efforts so far, and eventually growing desperate enough to keep protecting everyone within some kind of time limit that they became willing to kill for it. Kaede's version of this arc had to happen quickly enough to fit in one chapter, because the protagonist-swap twist really wouldn't work any later than that. Meanwhile, Kaito's version of this arc could span five chapters and not just one because his self-destructive selflessness was much more complex than Kaede's - in fact, he was probably (out-universely) written to be more complex than her on purpose, because the writers knew they'd have all that time to explore him. If Kaito had been the one to die selflessly in chapter 1 and Kaede in chapter 5, that would have wasted most of Kaito's potential, and I'm not sure Kaede could have quite lived up to that with her own.
I also really think the memory of Kaede is used less for Shuichi's guilt and more to push Shuichi forward and convince him he needs to keep being strong to fulfil her wish. Which is also exactly what Kaito is to Shuichi once he's gone. (And that's what both of them died wanting to be to him, so it really doesn't do their own arcs a disservice at all!) The only reason that's perhaps not as apparent for Kaito is because he only spends one chapter being a fallen inspiration to Shuichi, whereas Kaede spends most of the game like that - unavoidably so, because she died earlier.
Regardless of exactly what the memory of her is used for, though, obviously Kaede’s not going to be able to continue to have her own arc after she’s dead. That doesn't mean she didn't have a great one while she was alive! Sure, it was short, but someone needed to be the chapter 1 culprit, and doing it the way they did with Kaede was probably the literal best possible way to make a chapter 1 culprit feel like an important, developed character and not just a throwaway like in the previous two games.
But most importantly... no, Kaede is not sanitised of all wrongdoing, or however else you want to word that, in chapter 6. I’ve talked about this at one point on my sideblog in which I did a lengthy commentary of the entire game, so I'll quote a bit of that here:
So, I’ve seen people complain that Shuichi acts like Kaede was perfect and innocent and without fault at this point in the trial… but that’s not really what he’s actually doing here. Admittedly, he doesn’t properly acknowledge to himself that Kaede was still guilty, since that’s something I imagine he’d want to avoid thinking about too much, so he is still being a little influenced by his own personal bias of how much she meant to him. But he is also not trying to incorrectly argue, to himself or out loud, that she was ever innocent, and I think that’s important to keep in mind. All he ever says is “she didn’t actually kill anyone”, which is true on a technical level relating to her being executed for it, and that’s the context in which he said that.
The gist of the rest of what I talk about at around that point in that post is that, regardless of the moral responsibility that she does still have for Rantaro's death, Kaede should not have been executed according to the rules of the game, and that's the part that Shuichi focuses on and gets the most upset and passionate about. And yeah, although he never tries to argue that Kaede was innocent, Shuichi does kind of avoid thinking about the part where she was still guilty - but that's fine. He's a character. He's allowed to be biased; that doesn't change just because he's the protagonist whose perspective we see the story through.
Shuichi is an unreliable narrator who overlooks or misinterprets or fails to properly think about a lot of things in this story. If we judged the quality of every character's arc based on how much of it Shuichi sees and openly acknowledges, then Kaito's arc would be way “worse” than Kaede's despite being more complex and spanning far longer, because Shuichi notices almost none of what he goes through. But that doesn't mean Kaito's arc isn't there or that it isn't good, or that he doesn't have weaknesses and flaws. Of course all of that is still there in the story!
However, it's up to the player to notice for themselves what's going on outside of Shuichi's perception and come to their own conclusions separately from him. And it's easier to do that for Kaede than it is for Kaito, because we spend most of a chapter in her head (even if the game is omitting a few thoughts for the sake of the twist) and she openly talks about the mistakes she made and the weaknesses she had at the end of her trial in a way that Kaito only very slightly does at the end of his.
So when it's revealed in chapter 6 that Kaede didn't directly kill Rantaro, that's also something that's up to us to interpret outside of Shuichi's perspective on it and evaluate Kaede's actions ourselves. That's kind of the point. And, heck, if anything, the revelations about Kaede's crime in chapter 6 add to her story rather than diminish it. They show that she was very deliberately manipulated by the mastermind - the person she was trying to kill! - into killing someone innocent for the sake of making an entertaining killing game. That’s really interesting! That adds a delightful extra layer when you're replaying chapter 1 that wouldn't be there if the whole truth really was that Rantaro's death was only Kaede's fault. That’s obviously why the writers included this lategame twist, not for any purpose that has anything to do with shallowly “erasing her flaws”.
Neither is Kaede even remotely presented as nothing but Shuichi's "dead girlfriend" once she's gone, for that matter. Yes, it appears that Shuichi had romantic feelings for her, but the canon story makes literally no explicit reference to this, not while she’s alive or after she’s dead. Shuichi's crush on her is entirely incidental and not the point; the point that the narrative and that Shuichi's thoughts on her throughout the game make is that she was his friend who supported him and inspired him to be stronger. Just like Kaito also goes on to be! Anyone reducing Kaede to some shallow fridged-female-romantic-interest trope is doing that reducing themselves, because that's really not the actual narrative that exists in the game.
I once saw some writing advice on the topic of killing off characters that suggested imagining the character you're planning to kill as the protagonist of the story and considering whether that story would feel unsatisfyingly unfinished if they died there and then. That's practically what V3 actually does with Kaede! They didn't have to - they could always have just made Shuichi the protagonist from the start. Imagine if that had been the case: Kaede's death would have been far more likely to come across as cheap and only-there-to-develop-Shuichi, even though the actual objective events that happened would be exactly the same. So I really believe that they made Kaede the protagonist in chapter 1 not only for the plot twist factor, but also so that they could emphasise that her actions and her story were about her and not just Shuichi.
