What inspired you to write the fic this way?

I actually had the idea to write a ficlet about Lup asking Taako if it was possible for her to have a baby because she was pregnant before I even wrote my first official fic for this fandom. It was back when I was struggling to begin writing again, and I did actually write, like, half of it before I couldn't concentrate anymore, I hated how that little bit turned out. It was completely different from how I wrote the fic now, and now that I can look back on that experience, I think it was definitely not the right time for me to write at that point, and I came at it from the wrong angle. It was originally going to be a strictly Lup and Taako fic, but doing it from a slightly blupjeans angle definitely helped me. Also, another thing that inspired me to write it this time and the way that I did was because I remembered a series of art pieces someone did for a previous blupjeans week event that had the same family prompt that was about Lup and Barry's daughter being born and growing up, and I loved it so much and thought doing something with a similar subject would be a great idea. Also also, I loved the idea from this fic from Hali that the twins brush and braid each other's hair when the other is upset, and it loosens them up to be able to talk about it. I thought it was really cool, and I adopted that to my headcanon too :)

5. What part was the hardest to write?

It was actually really easy to write when I had a clearer picture of what I wanted to happen and who I wanted to be in the scenes. It's still a very Lup and Taako centric fic obviously, but having Barry actually being physically present in the background helped and having no one but Lup figure out what was happening before anyone else did helped a lot too lol I think the only trouble I had with it was trying to figure out Barry's reaction and that little scene there, but again, it wasn't that much. My only real concern was that I was afraid there wasn't enough blupjeans to count as a valid blupjeans week fic lol

Hi Pia! I hope you're doing well! I was just wondering how to pronounce Kadek's name? I tried looking up some guides on the internet because it's apparently a fairly common Indonesian name, but I didn't have luck finding a good consistent guide, and I don't want to say it wrong. Thank you!

Hi anon!

You won't find a consistent guide because there's a lot of different languages in Indonesia and over five hundred dialects. It's a super diverse and populated place!

So I pronounce it re: the Indonesian I know and the folks I know who are Indo: Kah-Deck (emphasis slightly more on the second syllable, not the first - each syllable well enunciated) - that being said, it's an Anglicised version of the name, for example how most non Indo-Australians say Putu is not the same as how Putu is said in many places in Indonesia. (We are more likely to say 'Pudu' and soften the T, and it's definitely not softened otherwise).

So yeah, it's definitely an Australian-ised pronunciation! The syllables are slightly less distinct. :D

You should make your cullees a top priority. Protect them with your life. They are under your care because they cannot care for themselves.

Make sure your cullees are happy and safe, especially the ones with mind powers…and teals, who for some reason, never cull easy. I give them all their own separate recuperacoons, with four in a [bedroom]. [Bunk beds] are a lifesaver. I also keep lots of fun things to do around the hive, like puzzles, games, and various electronics. I also have a small [room] dedicated to helping cullees calm down--it's a padded [room] with a bunch of blankets, pillows, stuffies, incense, and adjustable white noise.

Have solid rules. I never let mine leave the property alone. They need either me or some[one] I have verified as trustworthy with them if they wish to venture off of the property. I set a curfew (adjustable depending on the season) which dictates that they must be in the [house] before sunrise. They all have chores which change every [week] and they must complete them on time and efficiently if they wish to avoid consequences and receive their allowance.

Oh, yes! Have consequences at the ready if your cullees act out. I give mine depending on how bad they acted. Despite the best efforts of Lup, Magnus, and Merle to lighten the mood, the first dinner with the crew since the Day of Story and Song was an awkward one for Lucretia. Though Davenport was never much of a chatterbox to begin with, he seems to speak less now than he had before, and she feels the full force of guilt for having taken his voice from him for so long. Barry remained polite and made an attempt to cover his trepidation, but it was obvious to Lucretia that he was struggling to return to the relationship they’d once had, certainly due in no small part to the way she’d made him a villain in the eyes of their friends.

Even still, she could also tell that he was making an effort to forgive her, as was Davenport. Merle and Magnus had long worked out any resentment they’d had towards her, and Lup had made it clear that though she’d always be upset at Lucretia, she’d had plenty of time inside the Umbra Staff to make peace with what she’d done and she saw no point in holding grudges about it.

The biggest stressor for Lucretia during this dinner was Taako.

He’d been even quieter than Davenport, speaking only when spoken to, and in short, snippy answers. He’d spent most of the time pushing his food around his plate with his utensils like a child who didn’t want to eat his vegetables. Now, he’s squirreled away in the kitchen with the dishes, a chore he offered to do with much less of the usual protesting.

Lucretia excuses herself from the after-dinner conversation after a few minutes, leaving the others behind in the living room to bicker over board games. She stands in the kitchen threshold for a few seconds, watching Taako work with the tense focus he only exhibits when something is wrong.

After a moment, she speaks. “Do you want help with those, Taako?”

“Haven’t you helped enough?” he fires back, without missing a beat.

Still, Lucretia steps forward, grabbing a dishrag off the counter, and begins drying the dishes in the overflowing drying rack. “I understand you’re still upset with me, Taako, and you have every right to be. I just wish you would talk with me.”

“Oh, like how you talked with me before you wiped my sister from fucking existence?”

She sighs. “That’s not… that wasn’t my goal, Taako, you know that.”

“Do I fucking care? That’s still what you did.” He’s been scrubbing, Lucretia notices, at the same plate for perhaps a minute. It looks spotless. “Like… like, I don’t care. I don’t care if you had the best intentions or what-the-fuck-ever. It doesn’t give me back the decade with her that I lost. So I don’t care.”

Lucretia carefully pulls the plate from Taako’s hands. To her surprise, he lets her. “I hear you, Taako, I do. But I want you to understand that I wasn’t trying to hurt you, or her, or Barry, or anyone. I… You were hurting so much already, I just wanted to spare you the pain—"

“Don’t you see how fucking fucked that is?” He whips around to face her, leaving the faucet running. “Like, that’s so not your fucking call to make. Did you not think to fucking ask me? Because that should have been my choice to make! Mine! Not anyone else’s! It’s so fucked of you to take that from me.”

Lucretia’s head spins, searching for the right thing to say. “Taako…”

He’s already turned back to face the sink, breathing heavily. He picks up the last little bit of silverware and starts scrubbing. “You wanna talk?” he asks, much quieter. “You want fucking, vulnerability and shit? How’s this: I’ve never in my whole life been so afraid to not be in the same room as her. ‘Cause, like, how am I supposed to just trust it won’t happen again? How can I promise her that I’ll be there for her if she wanders off and gets herself hurt again. Because I always said I would be, but I left her alone in that cave for a whole fucking decade because I fucking forgot that I was looking for her. It eats me the fuck up.” Turning off the faucet and depositing the clean silverware into the dish drying rack, he looks up at Lucretia once again as he makes his way towards the threshold. “So yeah. I’m pissed. Sue me.”

And with that, Taako strides out of the kitchen, leaving Lucretia alone with the weight of his words.

lol none of them. I'm fairly hobbity, in that I'm short and chubby, but beyond that... nah.

I think I would say no, based on what I know of Christopher Tolkien's reaction to them. And wasn't he pretty adamant that he didn't ever want Disney to adapt them? I just don't think he'd jive with any Hollywood-ising of his books

38. Someone says ‘LOTR IS BORING/TOO LONG/SUCKS’, how do you respond?

lol this actually happened to me once. It was the first time I was reading it, when I was twelve, just after the first film came out. I was reading it in the school cafeteria at lunchtime, and this older girl - who I didn't know - just came and planked herself down opposite me. When she saw what I was reading, she asked, incredulously, "Do you like it??" I was visibly over halfway through the whole thing, so my response was pretty much, "uh... yeah."

"Did you like the film?"

"Yeah," said I. "That's why I decided to read it."

"Well, I didn't," she said. "I didn't understand it."

"Okay..." I said. (Not wanting to say, "What's not to understand?" And wondering, "Why the hell have you buttonholed me like this?")

She went on and on from here, about how boring it was, and about how Elijah Wood gave her the creeps. Then, I think eventually my decidedly noncommittal responses got through to her that I was not her target audience, because she just kind of fizzled out, then went, "Well, bye." And left me on my own again. To this day, I've never been able to figure out what the hell that was all about. XD

So, yeah. That would be my response. A rather bewildered "Okay...? Well, I like it." XD

Also, I would say Pyrita would remind the teacher of homework. She's super smart and worried about this sort of thing.

Ise, Luci, Kyti, Sundrop, and Mariesii would get the most mad, certainly. Ise and Luci would be LIVID, though!

Amiri, Naida, the butterfly twins, Daylily, and Aurelia are pretty troubled, with Aurelia having it the worst with abuse in her past (she has a burn scar at the back of her left shoulder to show for it).

Pyrita, Althaea, Daylily and Amiri have the best grades.

Pyrita is a perfectionist, definitely. Also Amiri and Aurelia, since they're kinda trying to prove themselves. Daylily and the butterflies are also perfectionists, since Daylily's scared to do anything less than perfect for some reason (her twin isn't that worried about it, though).

The butterflies are from the Mobius equivalent of Japan, so they're both perfectionists because their parents know they can be straight-A students and while they aren't strict about it, the twins don't want to disappoint them.
