#TRAUMA THAT LITERALLY CAME FROM YOUR 'COMEDY'
Text
the whole having to make a disclaimer when you make a joke about like. white people. or allocishets. or just oppressor groups in general is so messed up bc like. i would LOVE a disclaimer before every sitcom episode my family watches (help) like just. jennifer aniston at the beginning of friends like
"hi! this episode contains 3 instances of 'jokes' made targeting the queer community with an intent to capitalize on harmful stereotypes (instituted by the oppressor class with a goal of otherization and degradation) for a ridiculing and unnerving effect! thus delegitimizing queer voices and identities in the mainstream and contributing to subconscious biases and ostracization of minority groups by viewers at home in the favor of "edgy" comedy!! plus a bonus of wlw sexualization at the end :) that's all, enjoy <3"
like ARE YOU KIDDING!?!??! then i wouldnt have to sit there the whole fucking 45 minutes on the edge of my seat waiting for the fucking jumpscare of queerphobia. like, i know its coming at some point every 2-3 episodes but i would like to have some preparation??? like slap a warning label on that thing frfr (*smack* "this baby can fit so much transphobia disguised as light-hearted humor!")
but nOoOOOoO we're the sensitive ones having to sit through EVERY MAINSTREAM MEDIA SHOW ON THE PLANET just WAITING for That One (1+) Gay Joke and knowing you cANT make a big deal about it because its "JUST a JOKE" and we DO. IVE LITERALLY CONSUMED STRAIGHT MEDIA THAT MAKES GAY JOKES FOR 17 YEARS. ALL THE WAY BACK TO FUCKING DISNEY VILLAINS. AND IVE LET U HAVE YOUR FREAKING JOKES BC IM NOT IN A SAFE SPACE TO ACTUALLY SAY ANYTHING
and yet anytime someone dares make a SINGULAR joke generalizing white or straight or allo or whatever people EVERYONE FREAKS THE FUCK OUT like i know karen its not ALL. STRAIGHT. PEOPLE. can i make a sINGULAR joke based on my personal experience and perception of a shared "straight" culture and norms that often benefit the oppressor class and make my everyday life difficult JUST ONE JOKE. JUST ONE. THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK. JUST LIKE EVERY FUCKING GAY JOKE IN A SEINFIELD EPISODE EVER WASNT A "PERSONAL ATTACK" RIGHT?!?!?!?!?
stfu. we're tired. you're literally lucky we aren't less depressed or sleep-deprived or you'd be bkjldsjfljfs
#sorry yall i just ABJDKLJVASKLDJF at my LIMIT I SWEAR TO GOD#also side note dont you love those jokes that are like 'that's a trans/gender nc person...... (thats funny!)'#and ur just sitting there like. am i. naturally hilarious??? a bORN COMEDIAN!??!#anyways#LET US MAKE FUCKING COMEDY OUT OF OUR TRAUMA#TRAUMA THAT LITERALLY CAME FROM YOUR 'COMEDY'#i say 'comedy' bc its NOT FUNNy.#GAY PEOPLE ARE FUNNY#POINTING OUT A QUEER PERSON EXISTS IS. NOT FUNNY??? THERES NO CREATIVE THOUGHT????#ITS LITERALLY JUST LIKE 'hey! here's someone different from my norm and i perceive that as weird because im uncultured and uneducated and#trained to perceive anything outside the norm as dangerous and/or lesser than myself'#EVEN THOUGH I WEAR A SHIRT THAT SAYS I HATE MY WIFE AND DRINK BUD LIGHT AND MAKE MY SON WEAR 'LADIES MAN' SHIRTS AND HIT ON 14 YR OLDS#AND NO ONE THINKS THATS WEIRD#like. maybe u need to workshop that one a little bit. idk. just a personal opinion#/j they need to workshop everything about their everything#like maybe splash a little respecting women juice on ur face while ur at it#actually a little respective everyone juice#get ur shit together#like gay people may not have their shit together but STRAIGHT PEOPLE DONT EITHER#ITS JUST SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE FOR THEM??? TO BEHAVE LIKE THAT????#LIKE I DONT NEED TO KNOW UR 'TRYING FOR A BABY' STFU AND GO HOME TO UR LITTLE GENDERED HOUSE U WEIRDO#anways#thats enough tags#sorry yall skldfjklsjfskldkfjdkl#the straights are not okay#the allocishets are not okay#nO ONE IS OKAY#and its okay to not be okay but NOT IN THAT WAY U ABSOLUTE WACKOS#lgbtqia#kiri’s ramblings

Why I love the SPN finale so much
There are exactly 4 possible ways the show could have ended for our boys.
a) Both Sam and Dean live
b) Both Winchesters die together
c) Sam dies
d) Dean dies
So why do I think d) was the best possible outcome? Lets have a look at the different scenarios.
a) Both Sam and Dean live
While it would have been nice, I dont think it would have really concluded the show. "There will be peace when you are done." Well, on earth they would never have been truly done. There would always have been another horror lurking just around the corner, even if it was just a Monster of the Week. To find true peace, I think the boys had to enter heaven. And we actually had a bit of the they were done and lived happily on earth scenario in that domestic life openening of the finale. For the boys to live would just have meant more of the same, seasoned with hurts and horrors and a sprinkle of pain on top.
b) Both Winchesters die together
I wouldn't have minded that. It sure would have made for a tragic ending. In fact, that was what I kind of was hoping for, at least I imagined that this would be how the finale would go. Both boys going down swinging, blaze of glory style, preferably dying hand in hand, saying something like "Good night Sammy" or "See you on the other side, Dean". But in retrospect I see that this would have robbed us of their 7 Minute good bye scene. Of all the things Dean needed to say to Sam because he was saying good bye for quite a while. Of Sam being devastated and breaking down with his dead brother in his arms. There would have been no need for love confessions and "I must have stood outside your dorm for hours" and "When it came down to it it has always been you ... and me". Because they just could have picked up their normal conversation on the other side.
c) Sam dies
Dean would have comitted suicide right after burning Sams corpse. Jensen said so, and regarding Deans feelings and intentions, Jensens words are as good as canon to me.
I wouldnt have minded the tragedy of that, but in that case it really would have had an undertone of suicide ideation, which enough people scream about Dean's death as it is. (And which it really, really wasnt!)
c) Dean dies
Did I cry my eyes out? Yes. But the show I love is a drama show. Otherwise I`d choose a feelgood comedy show.
I wouldnt have minded for Sam to follow Dean soon after, to be honest. Maybe by being extra careless on hunts. But in keeping fighting, living through the grieve and pain day by day and coming out strong enough on the other side to actually have a kid and give him a stable, loving home, the message of the finale was actually so powerful. Opposite of glorifying suicide, it said "hold on, stay strong, there is a light at the end of all this trauma and horror and darkness you currently walk through".
The best part about the finale is, though, that it did not end there. Supernatural DID. NOT. END. WITH. DEAN'S. DEATH!!!
SUPERNATURAL ENDED ON A BRIDGE!!!!
I would have hated it, if the end of the show would have been the brothers seperated. But they weren`t. The show literally ended with the boys arm in arm, looking out over a peaceful valley in a heaven better than the one they knew from before.
There was peace and they were done. Together.

it's interesting how comedy shows will have early-series horrible characters blame all their horribleness on some stupid thing, thus appearing shallow and blame-shifting, and then later series come out and it turns out that actually the character was right and that thing did fuck them up in the most serious and life-affecting way, it's just that they didn't know how to talk around their trauma and it came out all jumbled, and no one around them took any looks further because hey, who wants to mess with a messed up person?
like, rimmer's entire deal of "my high-class parents weren't high class Enough and didn't send me to the academy and that's what stopped me from success i so rightfully deserve" is just his best, albeit terribly distorted, way of saying that throughout his entire childhood he was unloved, uncared for, repeatedly demeaned and lowered and abused and physically tortured by his very own closest family, and that left him terminally uncapable of processing emotions or failures or human relationships in a normal way.
or eleanor shellstrop from "the good place" (warning for spoilers ahead): there was a bit in season 1 whe she still thought this was the good place and had an awkward dinner with a demon and "the real" "eleanor", where that girl told her the long-winded story of how she went through every earthly suffering imaginable and still came out kind and righteous, so that prompted the demon to ask just what could've happened to our eleanor to render her so callous and egoistic and a terrible person, and all what she had to say was that her parents got divorced, which sounded like the worst most pathetic excuse ever heard.
well so. later it turned out that it Was her parents who fucked her up. but not only the divorce - it was the neglect, the utter lack of care and love, the honest to god mental and physical abuse through them ignoring the needs of a literal small child; it all ran so fucking deep, it genuinely harmed her. but she was unable of articulating any of that, because she had to convince herself that her childhood was normal in order to carry on. she gave them her best, working, lacking-any-self-empathy version of events, and no one asked her further. some people are just bad because they're bad and making up excuses to hide it, so what of it?
if you're not a perfect victim, if you're ugly and struggling and hurting (yourself and others), if you can't articulate your trauma in a logically consistent, easily processable, emotionally touching way, no one's gonna listen to you. but also no one owes you any listening when you're being a difficult, horrible person, causing problems for everyone. who's to say that the people who hurt you weren't imperfect victims, hurting themselves and others?
there's no coherent moral to this post, tbh. life's just unfair, innit? and comedy shows have a good way of portraying that.

Best Underrated Anime Group E Round 1: #E8 vs #E1
#E8: Lesbian vampire & human go on road trip to escape the horrors
In a bleak world where music is banned and Vampires have emerged at the top of the food chain, a girl named Momo breaks past the barrier and connects with Fine, queen of the Vampires, and the two journey to find a safe haven where their races can co-exist.
Tumblr media
#E1: Modern people transmigrate* to ancient Chinese fantasy world (BL)
People from the modern world transmigrating into the ancient fantasy world has become a common and everyday occurrence that the royal court in the latter has decided to moderate them. If you’re a transmigrator, you must report your existence to Lou Zhu, the master of Best Tower. Once you pass his test and prove that you are indeed a modern person, you can then be assigned to work in different areas of the government and be given a high salary.
Because of this promised benefit, many impostors have showed up before Lou Zhu. And one day, Zuo Yunqi shows up for this test. Is he an impostor, or is he an actual modern person?
But some transmigrators also choose to hide their existence out of distrust in the government. Where are they? And with their knowledge of science and technology, what are they planning in the dark?
*Transmigration = similar to isekai, but the world where the characters get isekai’d to is not always a western fantasy type.
Titles, propagandas, trailers, and poll under the cut!

#E8: Vampire in the Garden
youtube
Propaganda:
This anime came out a year ago, but I literally never heard of it until earlier this summer because Netflix had it. You guys are SLEEPING on such a good series—it’s 6 episodes so it’s short, but it feels like a whole single film. The voice acting is so fun, the music slaps, the animation goes HARD during fight scenes, and it’s just so so good. The art style is pretty, and the scenery makes me lose my mind, it’s SO pretty. I need to write an essay one day about how VitG uses music to carry the story because wow that is 🛐🛐🛐 Also there’s a goofy looking dog named Connie that continuously appears and serves no purpose in the plot. Love that
Trigger Warnings: Child Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Graphic Depictions of Cruelty/Violence/Gore, Racism, Self-Harm.
Child abuse & emotional abuse for Momo’s complicated relationship with her mother. Also emotional abuse for Fine’s past traumas and current strained relationship with other vampires.
This is a vampire anime, so there’s a lot of blood and fighting. There’s also a drug introduced in ep1 that mutates a vampire horribly.
Racism is human-versus-vampire shenanigans.
Self-harm for a scene where a human attempts to feed a vampire and for drug usage as mentioned above.
Tumblr media
#E1: Are You Ok (You Yao)
[Admin: I could not find a single trailer of season 1 w/ English subs, and its OP seems to have been taken down on YouTube since Iqiyi, its producer (?), started their own channel. As such, I’ve cut a small portion of S1E01 instead, featuring the test the transmigrators have to take.]
Propaganda:
This donghua (Chinese anime) is based on a comedy novel with the same title, and the adaptation is just stellar. Instead of showing each character’s story separately like in the novel, the donghua combined everything. Because of this, there’s more focus on the plotty and political mystery aspect—but without losing the heart of the original. The entire show is still just as hilarious.
And for an adaptation with several original characters, for once I actually don’t mind it. I usually find such additions annoying, but in this show they really serve a purpose and also add to the enjoyment.
I also like the choice of animating it in 3D, like the one in video games. It fits the “transmigrate into a fantasy world” setting well. The donghua also plays around a lot. In one episode, they had one character sing and dance like in a musical, with the beginning of the song sounding like “Do you wanna build a snowman?” from Frozen 😂
Moreover, this is a Boys Love story, and with more than one couple, too! The secondary couple (Zhou Rongqi and Li Ke) even gets a very gay ending song that’s all about them. But since this show is from China, where censorship rules are strict, don’t expect anything explicit. Just think of it as another shounen with homoerotic undertones, except the homo is actually canon.
All in all, it’s a very fun show that doesn’t lack in depth. If you’re in the mood for something light but don’t want to miss out on plot, you should definitely watch this. And if you’ve never watched a donghua before, then you’ll definitely find this fresh and intriguing.
Trigger Warnings: None.

First and foremost, I just want you to know that your storytelling, dialogue, and character development for your story “Unrequited” is absolutely incredible. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading each chapter you’ve posted thus far and am always thrilled whenever we get a new chapter from you! I hope you’ve enjoyed the holidays with friends and family 🎄🎅. Quick question for you: what do you think has been your biggest inspiration for writing Unrequited and the way you’ve developed Toby’s character? Also also lol how do you feel Toby’s psychiatric disabilities and past traumas are going to inhibit his ability to form a meaningful connection with the reader? I feel like to some degree the reader will have empathy for him but not let that fool her from the situation at hand. Please let me know your thoughts! Sending lots of love and best wishes to you! 💙✨
Thank you for all the kind words!! It really means a lot. I don't always feel confident with my writing and probably take too long editing lol.
Without getting too personal, my biggest inspiration for both Toby and the Reader came from my own life. People I've known, family members, friends, and seeing how trauma affects people in different ways.
I know the Reader having an abusive parent is almost cliche at this point in Creepypasta fanfiction, but I wanted to explore it more and have it be a regular theme that comes up. Instead of like, the Reader being "saved" from their family in the first chapter and it's literally never brought up again. Because that shit stays with you your whole life.
I also get inspiration from other fanfiction. Playing Favorites and Spill Your Guts were two big ones where I loved the characterization of Toby. I also look at random characters in shows/movies I watch, which are mostly horror and comedy. I think it's super important to have Toby be somewhat funny.
And yeah, Toby's psychiatric disabilities and his refusal to take responsibility for his actions and learn better coping strategies are going to make all his relationships hard. I purposefully wanted the Reader and Toby to come from bad backgrounds because it means the Reader will not take the whole 'I murder people because my dad hit me' as an excuse.
They are two people, in similar circumstances, but one is trying to move forward, and the other (Toby) wants to drag them down so he can be a little less lonely.

my mom came up(?) with a concept of asexual Sanji and I need your professional opinion on this
Oh, this one's new! I never heard of this headcanon before but as an asexual and a person who relates to Sanji a very insane amount, I can actually see it. I think I never thought about it due to his... Behavior. And also the perception the fandom has about him. I guess I just always used the Bisexual headcanon for him. But!! Guess what? I love turning horny characters that are used as comedy relief Asexual!! Breaking stereotypes and all that shit.
I think Sanji's sexual attraction to women, asexual or not, comes from a need to be loved and accepted and have somebody to care for. He's a natural caretaker and protector; his core need is to feel useful and wanted. Which, you know, comes from all that trauma of not being wanted or useful. And I think sex is the easiest way to feel needed and wanted, so it wouldn't be weird for him to just convince himself that he feels sexual attraction when actually he just wants to be wanted. Which has happened to me. A lot of times. It's not fun.
He worships women both because of his mom and because of Zeff's words, so it isn't weird that the concept of sexuality and romance toward them is mainly because of his past. Also, the concept of toxic masculinity the Vinsmokes made him grow up with can also be a reason why he feels the need to like women sexually.
Perhaps it's just Sanji adapting to the world, seeing the men at the Baratie liking people that way and feeling left out because of that. And if you mix that with his worship toward women (this is very real though) he just becomes a very chaotic simp. Not because he actually feels aroused, but because his feelings toward women are strong enough for him to confuse sexual attraction with admiration or worshipping.
And don't get me started on men. I think he's just straight-up repulsed by the idea of being with a man. And it's not even because of his internalized homophobia due to toxic masculinity (that too, though) but because of plain fear. Literally the people who have hurt him the most are men, so of course he doesn't like them. And the most important people in his life are women, so of course he just assumes he only likes women and should like them sexually and worship them in every way.
So here we have Sanji, who has severe issues with men and a fixation toward women, thinking he likes them sexually when actually he just... He just wants to feel loved and needed and wanted. Sex is the quickest and easiest way for that to happen, honestly.
And maybe this is just me projecting and all that, but I think that despite being the way he is he wouldn't like sex that much? I think he keeps acting this way to pretend (he thinks he likes sex himself, even, until he tries it) but sex just feels odd. Uncomfortable. It's a very intimate and personal thing and I think he has had trauma regarding sex (not getting into this right now but I think it's obvious what I'm trying to say here). And if he has sex, do you really think he'd be proactive? I genuinely don't like the concept of Sanji topping (unless he's like, service top or power bottom) because I think he'd just like to be useful, not really caring about his own pleasure.
I think he doesn't feel sexual attraction but his libido is pretty high. He is not repulsed by the idea of sex, like, the concept and blurry images of it are fine. But actually having sex? I don't think he has had good experiences but he forces himself to be in these situations. Either to feel valid or useful or whatever. But he could have sex and enjoy it when it comes to a deep bond.
I actually love this headcanon now?? You've opened my eyes, tbh. Thank you. Sending you hugs.

craft essay a day #7
i was just talking with @volturialice about comedy writing, so it's something that's been on my mind, and i've never really written about it. so consider this an early draft of a future essay that's far more coherent.
"Funny Is the New Deep: An Exploration of the Comic Impulse" by Steve Almond, The Writer's Notebook II: Craft Essays from Tin House
beginner | intermediate | advanced | masterclass
filed under: comedy, meaning making
key terms: comic impulse (his), comic intention (mine)
summary
i was hesitant to read this essay because comedy is very important to me. i can handle bad craft essays but i'm not sure i can handle bad craft essays on comedy. but, i thought, if you're writing a craft essay on comedy, you're probably pretty funny. that's the thing about comedy: it's not usually inspected by the unfunny.
Almond opens with Aristotle's four modes of literature: the tragic, the epic, the lyric, and the comic. he disagrees with the common belief that tragedy and comedy are working in opposition to one another.
"In fact, the comic impulse almost always arises directly from our efforts to contend with tragedy. It is the safest and most reliable way to acknowledge our circumstances without being crushed by them."
he talks about how Aristophanes is the father of comedy, and goes on to discuss the history of comedy in literature, focusing mainly on Vonnegut who tried to write about the bombing of Dresden seriously before eventually, twenty years later, succumbing to his comic instinct and writing the very darkly comedic Slaughterhouse Five.
"...comedy is produced by determined confrontation with a set of feeling states that are essentially tragic in nature: grief, shame, disappointment, physical discomfort, anxiety, moral outrage. It is not about pleasing the reader. It's about purging the writer...Another way of saying this would be that the best comedy is rooted in the capacity to face unbearable emotions and to offer, by means of laughter, a dividend of forgiveness."
Almond asserts that humor is the result of being able to look at understand the wider picture, and that's why comedy can be so rooted in politics and current events. he acknowledges that what's funny is not objective, and concludes by saying,
"The real question isn't whether you can or should try to be funny in your work, but whether you're going to get yourself and your characters into enough danger to invoke the comic impulse. Literary artists don't write funny to produce laughter...but to apprehend and endure the astonishing sorrow of the examined life."
my thoughts are centered around the practicality of comedy writing, by which i mean to answer the question, but how do you be funny? and talk about what i'm calling "comic intention." (note, i came up with it just now and so i'm still Thinking on it, and my thoughts may be half-baked.)
my thoughts
this essay put me through all five stages of grief. i feel very personally called out in a paragraph about how, in a story when the stakes get too high, or as Almond says, "reaches a point of unbearable heaviness" the comic impulse is to make it funny. and i do that. and i'm so delighted by how clever and hilarious i am (sarcasm. see? he's right), and i value comedy so highly, that i'm always hesitant (or i even straight-out refuse) to change it. and he's right also, ultimately, that the impulse comes from a place of trauma, of habitually defusing. once, i was dating a guy who pulled a knife on me, and i said, "if you get my blood everywhere you're not going to get our security deposit back."
i read a certain sentiment by comedic literary authors over and over again: early in their careers, they stifled their own comic impulse in an effort to be taken seriously. they were inspired by hemingway and wanted to write dry prose of the very sober, somber variety. Almond admits this in the essay, and says the same of Vonnegut, and once i went to a lecture by George Saunders who said literally the same thing. and i'm like, what is wrong with you people? why in god's name would you ever take yourselves seriously enough to want to be taken seriously?
for me it was the inverse. it took me years to even want to take my work seriously, to think of it as anything other than fucking around and finding out. and i also take umbrage a little at the idea that comedy writing is fundamentally unserious. but then again, i revere comedy. to me being funny is the highest ideal. i believe if you can do comedy and do it well, you can do anything. comedic actors can almost always do drama, but not all dramatic actors can do comedy. one of the reasons breaking bad and better call saul are so successful is that they play on the charisma, wit, and insanely funny talent of two comic actors (Cranston and Odenkirk). they're the most serious shows you could ever watch, but they're still funny.
there's a difference i think between being serious and taking yourself seriously. the gravest creative sin, to me, is taking a story too seriously. if it's apparent the writer can't see the inherent potential humor of all things, even if that humor isn't played upon, even if no one's laughing, i am immediately ejected from a story. comedy is a wider breadth of understanding than the material offers. Almond makes this point too, and uses conservatives as an example, saying that Republicans aren't funny and that's a sign that they don't understand jackshit about anything.
i don't believe everything should be funny. but everything should acknowledge its own potential for humor.
okay so here's my big thought:
my reaction to this essay is a huge "yes, but..." i agree with Almond on nearly everything he says, except there are the nuts and bolts of joke-making to consider. and that happens in only two possible places: on the line level, the setup and the punchline; or the situational level, the concept of a story. a sitcom is a situational comedy, which means that the premise of the story itself must in some way be comedic. when writing comedy, these are the only two tools you've got. sentence and concept. that's it.
the show Barry (HBO) is, to me, the greatest example of comedy writing i've ever seen. situationally, it's hilarious: a hitman wants to be a famous actor. and on a smaller level, what it does exceptionally well is acknowledge that every character no matter how frightening or serious or tragic can be the comedic relief. this blew my mind and changed my entire understanding of character. and with that understanding, my work has become a lot funnier. my characters (i like to think) are more interesting and complicated, because any of them at any point can do either the setup or the punchline. when you have serious characters and a comedic relief, the serious characters can only do the setup, and the comedic relief does the punchline. and i believed that for a long time. i would look at the cast of characters in a given story and think, who's the funny one? and now, they're all given the power of comedic relief.
i guess if i had to define my "yes, but" response to this essay, i would say that yes, there's comic instinct, but there's also comic intention. it's having the guts to be outside the joke looking in, to consciously and at the risk of ruining the joke for yourself, engineer the funny thing. i would say comic intention begins with instinct. you have to understand the rhythm and cadence of a setup, the right timing and pacing of the punchline. in your first draft you have to see where your setups have naturally been built and in your second draft you nail the punchline.
when i edit comedic stories, that's all i do. i pay attention to the rhythm of the piece and i find where the setups are or could be, and i make a little margin note that says "punchline here."
comedy writing, to me, is basically math. and that's the least funny thing there is. but if i don't acknowledge it, if i don't approach it with intention, i never get to the punchline. and intention itself is delicate--people expect comedy to seem effortless, so if you look like you're trying to be funny, you're not funny.
all comedy is about expectation. the basic setup of a joke is setting an expectation, and the punchline is doing something with that expectation. if you want to get funnier, start thinking about the unexpected. start thinking of details in pairs. your character is standing in an elderly woman's kitchen. situationally, this might be funny. maybe your character is a deadly assassin, and the elderly woman has invited him in for a coffee. or, at the line level, what's the most unexpected thing to be in that kitchen, based on the collective knowledge of what an elderly woman's kitchen looks like? your character opens the cutlery drawer and finds a glock. or a dildo. or a human molar. what's important is acknowledging that the elderly woman's kitchen is the setup of a potential punchline. the task is pivoting the punchline against the expectations of her kitchen.
even if you don't do this comedically, the practice of finding these pockets of potential will improve your writing, because what's in that woman's cutlery drawer can help us understand who she is as a character. what does it say about her if her junk drawer is a mess versus if it's meticulously organized? if she has thirteen owl-themed clocks? a wall of harley-davidson paraphernalia? what will your evil assassin character do if her dentures are in a cup and the cat is about to paw the cup off the table?
for those who also want to become better editors, one of the greatest skills you can learn is to read something and see what's not there, instead of just what is.
overall, i really admire Almond for writing earnestly on this topic, when sincerity can often threaten comedy. he acknowledges that insecurity is at the heart of every joke (the drive and the need to make someone laugh) and so the greatest fear of a funny person is to ruin the joke.

what's your opinion on: Rob, charlie, Glenn, and meg
oof. ur really coming after me hard. i had to switch to my computer to answer this.
first of all, i want to say, I am fascinated by their dynamic
despite all his borderline offensive jokes, you can tell rob really respects megan's opinion. he values her for the perspective she brings as a lifelong fan of the show and a genuinely good writer. again, I literally just said this, but there is a reason megan (and charlie and glenn) are friends with rob. because at the end of the day, as cocky as he is, rob respects others and defers to them as needed.
rob is such an interesting character to me. he is both overwhelmingly confident and an insecure bitch (which you can argue is two sides of the same coin). but I can't ignore how often the others come back to how good of a friend he is. you can tell he genuinely cares about his friends and the show he creates. he wants to be there for others even when he can't quite understand what they are going for. this completely bled over into the podcast today.
i know that eventually, people are going to come after rob because of how bitchy we came off during the podcast today but I can't ignore how he presented the conflict with respect for how charlie sees things and why he sees them that way.
as for glenn and charlie, they are harder to pinpoint. they are both wildly different from the characters they present themselves as during the podcast (though you can tell when their actual personality bleeds through).
charlie is definitely more conservative than i thought he would be. not politically, but in the way he approaches things. he is calm and rational in a way i didn't expect him to be. this definitely comes from how i see charlie kelly and the way i expected charlie day to reflect that irl. that's not say that i expected him to act like charlie kelly, but that i thought i would see more of charlie kelly in charlie day
which brings me to glenn, who i see as the complete opposite. glenn himself has tried to deny it but at the end of the day, there is so much of glenn in dennis (obviously dramatized and taken to the extreme). but the mood swings, frustration over insignificant things, and body & ego-related issues? they are all remnants of glenn's actual personality. I actually think it's very healthy that glenn can recognize these traits and choose to magnify them in a way he knows is irrational. i mean dark humor is a genuinely good coping skill (or so my therapist says as I choose to view my trauma as a comedy. he's just like me fr)
unfortunately, i don't have as thought-out takes on Megan. but I can say I deeply respect her as a woman in comedy and someone who has faced sexual harassment. she is smart and funny in ways many others would have broken by but she stays resilient.
but ultimately, i conclude that they need each other to create the show they love. and rcg knows this. it's the reason they have remained friends all these years. they are friends first and colleagues second. but the colleague's aspect is not ignored. they have managed to separate their professional lives from their real lives. or one could argue they have managed to merge them. rcg (and megan) are not without their flaws, but they collaborate in a way you don't see often these days. and as long as they keep creating good content, I will always be eager to see what they do and say next.

the fact that i haven't run out of things to say about scott thompson is honestly ridiculous but i need to put on my comedy-analysis-hat bc i just listened to another episode of PTSDIVA to cheer myself up and there was a sketch at the beginning of this episode that i'm fucking fascinated by
ok so basically PTSDIVA is a podcast scott thompson did in 2019 exploring various traumas he went through with humor as well as empathy, and each episode starts with a comedic bit related to the topic at hand. this episode (the finale) was about the trauma of being born as a gay man in the time scott grew up in and having to unlearn a lot of the self-loathing that came with that (fun!)
the opening sketch was scott reading the introduction to the episode (introducing the podcast and explaining the topic like he does every episode) except when he gets to the end he tells his producer he wants to retake it because he thinks he "sounded too gay." the producer says he didn't notice anything and lets scott do another take, where he comedically lisps even harder (not doing the buddy voice but same ballpark). he then asks the producer to do it again, the producer says he didn't think it was a problem but sure whatever, scott then goes on to reread it in a completely monotone "straight" voice but then asks for a retake because he was overcompensating. this dynamic goes on until scott goes to record the intro and ends up accidentally just ranting about how his cishet male producer keeps saying his voice sounds fine and how would he know because he never had to deal with being harassed for sounding gay and this is obviously just a trick to take over the podcast for himself etc etc etc. his producer then goes "uh, scott? i think i just accidentally recorded your inner voice instead," but both the producer and scott like this take so they're done for the day
and of course i'm obsessed with this opening sketch bc it is a really great examination of how being seen as an outcast for an inherent part of your identity can lead you to constantly fixating on how obvious these things are about yourself, which must be even more intense for a gay man of scott's generation, and this kind of resentment towards people who can just go through life without having to think about it
but that's not the reason this fascinates me. this fascinates me because it is the literal inverse of a kids in the hall sketch scott did decades earlier
youtube
this sketch has scott just existing as a gay man in the 90s and not even being able to walk down the street without immediately being clocked as gay for his appearance and harassed over it. he changes his appearance several times, trying on different supposedly-more-masculine identities that only make him more obvious, before eventually just showing up in a bear costume and mauling the homophobe and calling him a fag in return. this sketch itself is one of my favorites, the fact that it's able to say so much in its simplicity with only one word is so powerful
but it's fascinating to me comparing this with the 2019 revisiting of this concept. the fact that in the kith sketch the homophobia is coming from an external force but in 2019 the homophobia is an internal conflict with a well-meaning straight ally telling him the problem doesn't exist. the fact that the endings are equally surreal and somewhat similar - in one scott wears a bear costume and attacks the homophobe getting his revenge, in the other his "inner voice" is recorded with all its anger and resentment on full display and the producer loves it. i could write a whole essay on just these two sketches on their own (and i guess i just did). scott thompson's comedy speaks to my soul in a way few other comedians can and the fact that he isn't more recognized for it is honestly criminal

— tag game. ☔
recommend 5 or more of your own works that you would rec to someone asking what they should read first & explain a little bit about the work. these can be the most popular, the ones you think are underrated, or your own favorites! then tag five other writers! | tagged by @neo-shitty thanks toffee i love talking about myself! :p
you best believe i AM doing more than 5 because i write for a lot of groups and i truly believe those fics are worth reading!
Tumblr media
seventeen.
sympathy subtraction (chwe vernon). okay so there is NO way im not mentioning this fic. AND im putting it on first place because its literally my child. my longest fic and the fic i hold the closest to my heart. 40k full of undying love for chwe vernon, this is. it also really closely follows my emotions about every single falling-out i've ever had. the perfect slice of life, the perfect coming of age. i shamelessly reread this from time to time from how well written it actually is. i am not afraid to say that i am the biggest fan of my own fic bc oh well. i write the fics i wanna read <3
this february 14th (kim mingyu). okay here's the tea. for a while, i really didnt like this fic and i despised seeing it in my notifications, BUT. it literally has 1k notes so i reread it last night and i literally forgot what this fic was about i kid you not 😭 after reading it again, i came to the conclusion that my writing style in this is actually really good and even though the plot is not anything special, i still think it was really sweet :p
Tumblr media
nct.
happier than ever (huang renjun). a big FAT trauma dump. but i absolutely adore this fic. one of my absolute favorites. i somehow always give renjun the fics where i experience the most trauma lmao i treat writing for this boy like a therapy session. i think it has to do w the fact that i see myself a lot in renjun so it feels safe to write about him in this way :p anywAYS i still love the brother's best friend trope i incorporated in here. its also a fairly popular fic of mine, which is a pleasant surprise! a lot of coming of age/slice of life vibes, fluffy but also absolutely heartbreaking. <3
the borders (huang renjun). AAAAAAA another trauma dump 😭 hits a little less to home than the previous fic does, but still hits nonetheless. inspired by one of my most favorite songs ever! i always wanted to write a fic on this song, even back in my 5sos era, so i am glad i finally did it when writing for nct. handles very difficult themes, so i was a little scared of posting it, as it was the first full nct fic ive ever posted as well :) i said it the first time and i will say it again; handle this fic with care.
and i love her just like that (lee donghyuck). MY MOST POPULAR NCT FIC AND YOU KNOW WHAT? AS IT SHOULD BE. hyuck e2l just hitS 😩😩 i think about this fic at least two times a week when i go play table tennis with my dad. hyuck is a menace and i still wanna make out with him very badly at a ping-pong table. this fic represents just that. also slightly inspired by maniac by nct u bc hyuck ate
just saying (liu yangyang). my writing style in this >>>>> ngl i find myself really funny in this it might just be me but. this fic is top comedy. also i have a yangyang fic in my drafts that deserves to be in this list but i havent posted it yet😔😔😔 not yy being the only non dream member i write for from nct. his impact on me is truly impaccable.
seventeen going under (zhong chenle). another fic that might be difficult to handle and also another sam fender inspired fic. talks about suicide. with this, i wanted to speak up about the rate of male suicides and how we tend to overlook mental issues in men due to toxic masculinity. also, i loved the 'retro' film vibe and the chenji besties interactions i wrote in here<3
hypersonic missiles (na jaemin). bros i didnt expect this fic to get nearly as much attention as it has. idk man i dont really get much to say abt this one, other than the fact that its a sci-fi, which i dont usually write, but i fucking loved writing this it was so much fun i should do more sci-fi
Tumblr media
stray kids.
lee felix's guide to hating you (lee felix). another popular one!! loved every second of writing this. it handles my own feelings and emotions and the fic is very personal to me hihi it also lowkey made my blog "blow up"?? not that its big rn or anything, but i think that most of my followers came from this fic! :)
my only hate, my only love (kim seungmin). bruh there's just something about seungmin that only allows me to write angst for him. i think there's like one (1) fluff that i wrote for him and even that one is a short drabble. im sorry seungmin. 😭 anyways i am a literature hoe and wrote this despite not reading romeo and juliet fully once!! had a lot of fun with it. e2l stays superior (not actually, i prefer f2l but shh)
meet you there (kim seungmin). another heavy one ooof- inspired by sky castle! ngl i am very much in love with kim donghee and he always reminded me of seungmin a bit and i think that's what made me write this fic? 😭 not sure.
Tumblr media
tagging. @koishua @crispy-chan @chogiwow @mellow-midzy @aliceu @multi-kpop-fanfics @decembermoonskz and @tinami (if you come back to tumblr🤍) LETS SPREAD LOVE ABT OUR FICS AND ACT LIKE ARTISTS ON GENIUS EXPLAINING THE LYRICS 😡😡😡

Hi Jalebi, sab tikh. After reading your recent thought about khushi something came to my mind. Yes khushi was lonely so don't you think that she did that swami drama, making his room like her stunts to get away from thoughts like y he married me, y suddenly this and at the same time she was also going through crisis like her family didn't want her, inlaws and husband didn't want her. Her whole suicide thing came from there. She didn't think if she died any1's life will get affected, they will cry on her funeral and then will carry on. This step came from her suppressed emotions from 5 or 6 months and her silly antics were her espace mechanism. What do u think about this? Thank u for this lovely blog and sorry for such a long question.
Hello Anon,
Yes, sab theek :)
Yes, I do feel there was a sense of her 'getting back' at Arnav and keeping herself busy, but given the level of immaturity in her actions it is seen that some people do behave childishly in state of extreme stress/anxiety.
Everything she does to Arnav feel's like a child's play. Changing covers, putting wallpapers of her choice, putting up pink curtains and fairylights and in a slight state of constant happiness did make me question a lot of things. I mean we've seen comedy in IPK before - remember Arnav's iconic "kya bolu ab!" - and the way Khushi behaved in perhaps the most stressful period of her life left me with many questions. I often wonder if I'm just reading too deeply into their attempt at comedy.
Khushi was also going through extreme isolation. Every relationship she loved turned away from her or held her responsible for one of the most traumatic part of her life. So even though she gets pieces of her family back by Holi and is aware that Arnav isn't indifferent to her - perhaps she feels more at ease to 'act out'.
I say act out because I truly find it hard to understand what she's actually doing in those months. And I think why this is discussed a lot is because the show stops showing us about Khushi. Until the elopement - even though IPK is largely Arnav's story - we see enough of Khushi to understand her. Be it her heartbreak during Diwali, her resistance to marrying Shyam, her realizing her love, the effect of Teri Meri on her and so on.
But after that we stop seeing Khushi outside the lens of how her scene affects Arnav. So we literally have no guide of whether or not Khushi realizes that Arnav has the power to kick Payal out and irritating him is actually harmful or that Arnav is shown to be verbally very abusive so, again, annoying him is harmful. So we never understand if Khushi is acting out with this knowledge at the back of her mind or she has cocooned herself into a shell of madness to just get through the months.
She even states that she'll irritate Arnav enough so he kicks her out by six months (thus that's how she sees her escape from this marriage) but yet again, logically it doesn't make sense considering it will terribly affect Payal's marriage.
Like that is what at stake here.
Arnav's cordial relation with the Guptas and his approval of Akash and Payal's match plays a MASSIVE role in letting that relationship work in the Raizada household. So if Arnav kicks out Khushi, there's no way this would NOT hurt Payal's marriage.
Understanding Khushi post wedding, after a point, becomes each fan's understanding of psychology and what they see in the show because in a way everyone is right.
If someone thinks Khushi is this brave soul who can always get back at Arnav - they're right,
if someone thinks Khushi is actually going through immense trauma and regressing into childish behavior as a response to the trauma - they're right,
if someone is thinking that Khushi is truly a happy person and will find joy regardless of situation - they're right,
if someone theorizes that Khushi actually turned numb to the whole situation and didn't care a penny for anything and just did this to piss Arnav showing she didn't care for his anger and actually all her smiles and kiddish laughter died he minute he was out of the door - they're right,
if someone thought this is how Khushi, now more comfortable with Arnav post Holi, exerts her influence in his life on a subconscious level - they're right too.
Hope you liked this answer :D
Best,
- Jalebi
P.S: making comedy out of suicide though was absolutely unforgivable and nothing could ever explain that.

HORROR MOVIES WATCHED 2K22
‼️ Disclaimer ‼️ these are half baked opinions that, in the end, do not really matter, and have no effect nor hold any judgement on if you enjoyed/did not enjoy the same movies. I have no critical thinking skills and the number rankings are frivolous at best. YMMV. Have a good day. I love you drink some water. Be cool.
TO BE UPDATED
SPOILERS AHEAD
COMEDY-HORROR
Not everyone enjoys the hack n slash and brutality of other horror types so let's start with some lighter movies for those folks:
HOLLYBLOOD (Netflix) - 7/10
Spanish (dubbed) Twilight parody turned very very very light thriller. Literally, Hollyblood is the in-universe name for a Twilight movie. Has the most supportive dad to exist. "He's confused but he's got the spirit" in human form. CGI is minimal and cheesy, practical effects are cheesy and silly as hell. A good time. Desperate teen love, and nuns. Guys wearing eyeliner. A+
THE BABYSITTER (Netflix) - 9/10
Always a sucker for an Evil Barbie. Has some of the most bloodthirsty teenagers in it who can also be wholesomely supportive of the kid they're trying to kill. Found Family in reverse. So much blood and a good amount of gore. Loses a point for the kid wanting to be a cop tho.
MY BEST FRIENDS EXORCISM (Amazon) - 10/10
Trauma and backstabbing everywhere, just like real highschool. Adults not caring about their teenage daughters, just like real highschool!! Bash from GLOW teaching kids about lifting weights for Jesus!! Just like real highschool!!!! For real tho the 4 main characters are all pretty insufferable in a realistic way and the more horror the movie turns the less i think Bash from GLOW was told it was a horror movie and not a straight comedy.
CLASSIC HORROR/THRILLER
Blood n gore and monsters and sometimes magic:
THE PRIVILEGE (Netflix) - 0/10
Idk what the fuck even happened in this movie. Nothing happened and nothing mattered. Don't ask too many questions cuz they won't answer them. Maybe ghosts? Maybe demons? What was with the old lady?
BLAIR WITCH (2016) (Netflix) - 0/10
Why did we watch this we hate found footage this made no sense IF EVERYONE DIED WHO FOUND THE FOOTAGE
NO ONE SLEEPS IN THE WOODS TONIGHT (Netflix) - 4/10
A Polish (dubbed) kids-at-camp type movie. Mostly disappointed in how the fact they were at a tech-addiction camp never came into play outside of not having phones, and a lot of the deaths felt anticlimactic. Also aliens? Not much CGI use and one or two of the practical moments was cool. Gain points for hilarious mannequin head toss and Jurek's death scene.
THERE'S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE (Netflix) - 7/10
All the gays live. The killer is not who you'd probably expect but exactly who it should be. Kids trying to survive high school. The killers motives made no sense after the first two murders.
ELI (Netflix) - 7/10
Not really a horror movie? Nothing scary in it but some predictable jump scares. Cool movie anyway tho. Netflix is lying about the 'heart-stopping scares'. Medical horror, maybe.
INCARNATE (Netflix) - 8/10
Short (84 minutes) sweet and to the point. Did its thing and ended. Inception but Demons, hosted by Mr. Batman Two Face himself. Genuinely want more.
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (2022) (Netflix) - 8/10
Gentrification Is Bad and Influencers are Fucking Annoying: The Movie. Lots of blood and screaming, loved the inclusion of school shooting trauma. Party Bus massacre best massacre. No magic no monsters just a pissed off dude committing murders in the name of his mom and town.
THE RITUAL (Netflix) - 9/10
Andy Serkis's movie about why camping is bad and he's right to say it. Fuck hiking. Norse mythology, cool monster, cool visuals, cults, guilt, friends fighting, compasses spinning in circles, all the good ingredients a horror movie needs.
THE OLD WAYS (Netflix) - 9/10
A somewhat realistic take on someone not believing there's a demon inside them. Cool visuals and effects, definitely had my gag reflex activated strongly at one point. The end is not the end and then there's the REAL end that is SO MUCH BETTER than if they had stopped ten minutes before. Main character ends up badass af. Based in Mexico.
HELLRAISER (2022) (Hulu) - 9/10
Confused on the rules but doesn't matter because Jamie Clayton and cool monster designs. Everyone gettin' off on torture. it's a good time. Love all the skin peeling, it's like helping mom with the potatoes on Thanksgiving
A LIL DIFFERENT
Focused more on the mystery and story than the amount of gore scattered around (not that there's NO gore mind you):
THE BYE BYE MAN (Netflix) - 0/10
Yes we watched this because of the name. It should probably go under the Classic Horror style group but because of how hard it failed at feeling like horror it doesn't deserve to be there. The entire budget went into getting Carie-Anne Moss for the last half hour and honestly she's the best part of it. There's like?? No blood?? Would get two points for the cool little girl who saves her family by not being able to read in the dark but not even that can reclaim how bad this was. 3 college kids dick around and the killer does NOTHING the whole movie.
FEAR STREET trilogy (Netflix) - 10/10
Yes loosely based on RL Stine books. Don't worry, the Gays win in this one. All three movies NEED to be binged together honestly imho, separately they fell weird and disconnected. Great story and mystery, the time jumping is great and reveals so much information, Josh and Martin need to be protected and cherished at all times forever. Lots of violence and blood, gore is few and far between.

I saw your tags and I want to hear you talk about your blorbos! 😊👀
YES YES YES
I’ll start with a list of whom I consider to be my blorbos, then I’ll talk why I like them and maybe list a few headcanons for some I REALLY think about
(I find it funny that I have gotten extremely attached to characters that I haven’t even watched the shows for)
Saiki
I found him through looking up aroace compilations on youtube.
I’m not lying.
He showed up so much and I was intrigued so I click on a video and I’m instantly captivated by his personality and the entire comedy of the show.
I ended up figuring out the entire plot pretty quick by just watching some videos and Saiki became a fast favourite.
Naturally when I become interested in something, I read fanfic for it. Which leads me to my next blorbo
Bakugou
Like I’ve obviously heard of him and mha before so I had a rough idea of who he was and what he was like.
So I find some Saiki and mha crossover fic and the thing intrigued me and Bakugou was decently prominent.
I essentially liked is angry Pomeranian vibes.
He is very different from my normal blorbo types. Because of the anger and stuff but my goodness there are vibes.
There is also trauma but that’s a side dish to the blorbo.
I naturally, like every blorbo I headcanon him as aroace. Suffer horny Bakugou fans.
It’s kind of true but I kind of also headcanon him as a big nerd (I do have a type for blorbos they are nerds.)
The common headcanon about Bakugou needing to be constantly angry because of all the nitroglycerin is very neat and I love sciency headcanons so that’s inserted itself into my headspace as well.
Alright next blorbo. Also from mha!
Tokoyami
The bird guy? The emo bird guy?
Yes blorbo.
Literally just vibes. Funny little emo bird.
Aroace, definitely looks at dark academia posts, writes poetry and short horror stories.
(Tokoyami and Bakugou are aroace emo besties in this essay I will-)
If I were ever to write for mha. Something about the sports festival between these two.
Krel
I love him. My little nerd.
Also aroace and I enjoy the headcanon that Akaridions do not require any food or water, which really explains the weird stuff that Aja and Krel tried to eat when they first came to Earth.
I don’t know how common this is but the concept of the more often the Akaridions use their human forms the more human they become. Remember when Krel get the nose-bleed? Yeah I do.
Next blorbo!
Prince Lotor
First guy that would I end up considering as my first blorbo.
Ahhh March of 2021. What a fucking month. I watched like half an episode of season 3 waiting for the time to pass and saw Lotor and I went ‘you. Funky smart purple man.’
Voltron was the second anime adjacent/semi-animated-styled show I got into. After avatar of course.
Aroace. As I said it’s a common theme. And suffer as well horny Lotor fans.
Lotor just vibes with gender, he doesn’t mind what pronouns you use. Guess maybe agender or nonbianary. Demiboy? I’m not sure other than the fact that he is chill towards it and doesn’t mind he/him or other pronouns.
I adore the headcanon that he based his armour design off his cat.
And a few personal headcanons of mine are that he:
1. Is protective of kids because of his shitty childhood and knows of the consequences of war
2. Took in his generals when they are kids and kind of thinks of them as his younger siblings or kids.
A fic concept using those would be Lotor fighting the paladins manages to take off the helmet of one of them and went ‘oh shit you guys are kids’ gets all pissed and was like ‘how could the princess allow this’ joins them and realizes that Allura is also 19 and by extension of 10,000 year old Lotor logic he goes ‘aw shit you guys are all kids. Fine then I’m joining you’
And then they beat the shit out of Zarkon and everybody lives well no alternative colony blah blah blah.
Azula & Sokka
Would you be surprised that the first full episode of avatar that I watched was the beach episode?
Yeah. Not a good first impression but that episode managed to pique my interest and I finished season 3 and watched the whole thing.
At first Azula was like some odd side character to me. But by s2 ep1 she had caught me. I found her to be really cool!
Demi aro and ace. Lesbian.
Besties with Sokka.
Sokka. My boy. I was also very neutral with him at the beginning, but he grew on me pretty quick.
He’s like the only blorbo that I don’t headcanon as aro and/or ace. Bisexual and Demiboy with he/they pronouns.
I don’t have any big headcanons for them but they found their way into my heart either way.
I have a bunch of others but I am tired of typing, so I’ll just list them.
- Aizawa: MHA
- Tony Stark: MCU
- Steve Palchuk: TOA
- Kaidou: Disasterous Life Of Saiki K

People who are non-South Park fans act surprised to learn that the fandom is extremely openly female online and IRL like there's just something wrong with those girls and maybe they're overly into the little boys characters in a creepy way (that's there but only in extreme tiny circles like every fandom unfortunately). I still think it's also a product of the "thing enjoyed by women = must be bad" mentality we all can perpetuate cause fem hatred comes so easily.
For me, South Park came at a time when I was having a harder time relating to my gender identity and how I was perceived by boys and even other girls. I was made to feel like I was "too girlie" for the boys but "too masculine" for the girls but I honestly cannot tell you wtf I was doing that gave these impressions. It definitely led me into nihilism, and through that, I watched many hyper-masculine or dark humor edgy stuff because I was an insecure cis-girl pushed out by other insecure cis girls. But from all that content, South Park was the one show that grounded and led me to some healthier perspectives about my sex and gender.
So I want to list why the show is feminist or at least try to explain it's pro-fem stances.
- extremely honest about the over-sexualization and grooming of young girls that society puts upon us even as minors.
-Wendy started as the girl of the group that Stan was desperate to keep in his life but never truly loved and she herself had an unhealthy obsession with toxic males around her.
To now a feminist that sets her own boundaries and prevents Stan from taking advantage of her love whenever he feels like he's emotionally empty.
-A female pedo is treated like a rapist and dies and no one feels sorry for her sake
-Misogyny in the show is exhibited only by the worst characters possible.
-Matt and Trey, I don't like to overthink about real people's personal sexualities but they definitely read as men who don't care about how people see them poking fun at their own masculinity. That takes a great level of self-confidence and some level of respect for the "opposite sex" that most cis men are unable to do.
-Wendy beats the living shit out of Cartman deservedly for mocking breast cancer and the writers take her side 100%
-Showing the complex dangers of mutual abuse between partners (something I have experienced and now thanks to the show, I have a frame of reference to understand my trauma.)

It's actually one of the few "immature" comedy shows that actually hold better lessons for young girls than most supposedly mature "women-oriented" media.
When young women see any level of display of strong female agency that actually connects with their experiences, they're going to gravitate to it. That is why the fandom is overwhelmingly female.
Now it ain't all perfect. I'm not going to justify the transphobia remotely, it's still written by cisgender men with unchecked TERFism and other outdated neo-liberal politics. These videos bring that all to light, and this youtuber Lily Simpson (and Kitty Monk) will do a better job than me explaining it.

But I also will add:
-In the games feminine gender expression is highly encouraged even if it's in the context of a joke. One of the best armor to use is any of the effeminate armors so most players end up with the best stats by making their (assumed male protagonist) fight, play, and finish the game in complete drag.
-Second game lets you literally give yourself magical sex changes at no cost. It has a very shockingly diverse list of gender identities and it treats this more matter of fact than "lol alphabet people". You can change your sex and gender infinite times throughout the whole game. And the only penalty is the bigot enemies ai's change their language when they fight you.
The point is, that all women go through their own messy self-affirming journeys to understand their place in the world, and if some found old-school feminism through a crude little show about high-pitched rude little boys navigating the hypocrisies of the adult world and finding words to their feelings. Then I believe it's a good enough start that will lead young people into better places mentally.
