Me when I read a really sad angsty fucked up no good ending fic about Hannibal and it ends with him in his mind palace fishing with will (who was dead in the fic btw) because he can’t handle his situation.

i don't really like when people say dungeon meshi is accidentally good autistic representation, because while i understand not wanting to make conclusions without explicit confirmation from the author, there's always the weird assumption that non-western authors somehow don't know about things like neurodivergency/queerness/etc. (on top of the assumptions that east asian authors are somehow more naive or oblivious to "western" social issues).

given that dungeon meshi started being published in 2014, it's not really a "work belonging to its times"—it's as contemporary as any other media we discuss on this site, which means it should be fair to assume it engages with contemporary topics (and at the very least, you shouldn't say that the representation is accidental with so much confidence)

but anyways, the chapter "perfect communication" in ryoko kui's "terrarium in a drawer" is some of the most straightforward autistic representation I've seen, and from now on I'm going to assume that laios's character writing is absolutely intentional in that regard:

i am so. not normal. about skizz saying that he didn't feel nervous before the Gamers Outreach charity event 2024 was starting. because he felt at home. like he said he still feels nervous in his day job even after 18 years of working there! haikyuu is cool because you go and read things like "talent is something you make bloom, instinct is something you polish" "because people don't have wings we look for others way to fly" "today you are the defeated. what will you become tomorrow?" "we are the protagonists of the world" "and if you get really really good, someone even better will come and find you". and you read about how like. kageyama was learning to love again after it was ripped away from him and hinata was learning that he could jump high enough to become the sun itself and oikawa and ushijima and atsumu and kuroo and everyone else were all learning and trying and living with the hopes of becoming something greater than they ever could have dreamed but that something greater wasn't about winning it all it was about how they were so intricately tied that they will forever be part of the same path no matter how many times it splits and it's THE reason they are able to keep moving forward no matter what they may face. and then you're just expected to continue your life afterwards like nothing HAPPENED.

I love the fact that cannonically Martin considers that the thing that makes Jon recognizable to strangers it's not the myriad of scars but that Jon looks like someone that has not sleept in ages. He could not more enphatically make the point he wants Jon to just take at least a nap already except he makes his point to a total stranger Jon just traumatized instead of saying it to Jon.

It's driving me absolutely insane that as far as Amir knows at this point, Bobby got away with it. He's still a firefighter. He's happy. He got introduced like a hero and he walked in like one.
