Honestly at this point I just want tumblr to fucking ACKNOWLEDGE the bot problem, at least. It almost led to the downfall of this site once, when they pretended they weren't The Problem and blamed the app's questionable status on queer blogs instead, are they really going to let the site just be completely overrun by the fucking things the second people are ACTUALLY looking at this platform again???

I WANT people to come back, but if they come back and the site seems like it's 75% bots with really suspicious links trying to catfish you, why would they stay?? They're gonna end up in hot water with the app stores AGAIN and then who are they gonna punish?? Bc it's not the people making the damn bots!!!

These bot accounts are everywhere. Omg. @staff

Only in the past month have I started getting at least 3 follows a week from bot accounts with scantily clad girls.

Their profiles have absolutely nothing on them and they technically haven't done anything... But I will admit I do find it demotivating to see that 65% of my activity is just empty bot accounts following me.

Just wanted to raise the concern.

Does anyone remember the staffbots? They were named staff420690 or staff867530, they were everywhere for about 2 days, and then they all disappeared. Was that 2022 or 2021? I honestly don't remember.

My point is, those old bots came and went pretty quickly, but the new generation of spambots are spreading like wildfire and there's no relief on sight! People say that the current pornbots have names like jennifer300 or sarah2525 but no, the names the bots choose sound more like bad localizations of American athletes on the NES

They all look KINDA like real names, but just slightly wrong, senina, lebecca, jostice, ermily, vaguely name-like strings of letters.

I went back through my block list to look for specific examples, but they've all changed their names to random gibberish, prrsumably after having been flagged and blocked so many times.

Yesterday, this was full of names like mernany and shelsa and brichenne, but now they're all just keysmashes.

I fucking hate tumblr. I’ve tried fucking with my settings a million times now and it still keeps hiding shit and calling it “sensitive content” or whatever even when it’s a regular ass post. Whenever this comes up it blocks me from seeing the post, and it gives me the option to open my settings from there to allow me to see it. So I click on that button, it opens up tumblr on safari instead of staying in the app, so then I try fucking with my settings while in safari tumblr. But it’s to no avail because whatever I do in safari does not seem to have any affect on the app, even though tumblr literally said I needed to do this in order to see the hidden post.

Oh. And did I mention in the settings of the app itself, it’s LITERALLY ALREADY TOGGLED TO “SHOW ME SENSITIVE CONTENT” SO IDK WHY ITS EVEN DOING THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE?!

And an extra fuck you to tumblr bc the most recent post for this to happen on was one about Palestine. So so cool of you guys to have a shitty useless app that doesn’t work even after following its directions, but then to also use that post blocking “function” to limit someone talking about/learning about an ongoing genocide… particularly fucking heinous I dare say

If your account is blank. If you do not have a profile picture or a header image. If you do not have a blog title or something written in the description area. If you have nothing reblogged, and there's no content anywhere in sight

I've gained, I'm not joking, about 5000 entirely fabricated followers in the past few days. They're all default avatar accounts and mostly have keysmash usernames. And there's, to my knowledge, no way to mass delete followers. Even if there is, they've been coming in at an unmanageable pace. @staff what the hell is going on??

A week or so ago I got a new follower, so I immediately went to block and report as spam (as we do in this bot economy). While this blog displayed almost every trademark of a bot, they had their followers open to view - I was one of the first blogs they had followed, and the other few were all centered around similar interests.

So now I'm in this conundrum. That specific follower who looked like a bot was probably just new to Tumblr and searched for Genshin or something and followed the first few blogs they saw. But now I'm second guessing every new follower I get - they have empty blogs and default profile pictures, but they have unique usernames. Are they just new? Probably not all of them, but some of them?

Anyway, I was already mightily annoyed with Tumblr Staff, forced into blocking so many bots each day. But now with this new realisation, even they must realise that everyone auto blocking new blogs because they look like bots is bad for gaining site users... right?

Isn't all they wanna do gain new users??
