Currently modding SDV and let me tell you... I am struggling due to trying to decide if I should make the town medieval-like, or keep it normal. ;3; And I'm tempted to keep it normal cause I know the train station will be medieval and weird. So I'm forcing myself to keep the town modern so when the Ingo and Emmet mod comes out, they won't be confused lmao.
Oh you're making a mod too?? I wish you the best of luck!! It's so hard making assets and trying to get it to fit with the whole old worn down look of Stardew Valley... I think they'll appreciate a more modern town!
The design for the rebuilt train station was a struggle to finalize because of how we had to balance the simple Stardew Valley aesthetic and the "city slickers working their asses off to make something impressive and worth visiting a town in the middle of nowhere with nothing for" look... All while keeping the original map properties intact (the station isn't symmetrical...... we were doomed from the beginning)

DSV 5.0 is Out!
Thank you for your patience and support, everyone! DSV 5.0 is now available, making DSV compatible with the new SDV 1.6 update.
Here's the changelog:

Daggerfall Dev Appreciation Post
Been playing The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall recently. I really admire this game for being smartly made and using a lot of tricks to make it feel like it has more life than it does.
Here's some tricks it does that I like.
Dynamic Character Faces

When a generic NPC is far away, they render as a billboarded sprite of a pre-rendered model as they walk around. When you approach them and stop to talk to them, they 'snap' in to a higher-res idle animation which also applies a random face to them.
Characters can use the same base models can have different faces, to allow reusing the base model but swapping out the face in some instances to make them feel distinct and different.
They also have random portraits in dialog that are related to the model's appearance, which is fun. For example, these are some portraits for the above base model:

Proc-Gen World (But Not Really)
Daggerfall is interesting in that its game world is MASSIVE, however while it's all technically 'proc-gen', it's not dynamically generated.
The world was generated during development and only bespoke parts of the world were hand-crafted on top of that. The only dynamically generated content is the overworld that exists outside of fast-travelling from POI to POI that expands out forever (and admittedly has very little to do).
Vast majority of the POIs in the world however contain areas that rely on smaller gameplay elements like generated side-quests and the like, but it's all explorable and I think that's really fun that there's still stuff to do there!
I think the "static-generated POIs" approach is also really smart because it means you get the benefits of large world generation with procgen, as well as the stability of hand-crafted content.
Here's the full map and all the POIs in just one region of the world (the small dots on the map), each one having been generated during development and now technically has unlimited quests to do!

Proc-Gen Spatial Relations
One thing I also like about the proc-gen approach is that a lot of the interiors of the buildings in the world are actually mapped exactly to the exteriors.
Even in modern games this feels like something of a rarity, but it's surprising how much this helps with orienting oneself inside a building when you know what the exterior looks like! It really adds to the verisimilitude of the space, especially in a proc-gen world. Plus, the number of house variations that exist in the world and match these patterns is very impressive.
For example, the interior of this house's floorplan matches the exterior, and the second story has a high-peaked attic just like the exterior does.

Yet another month, another devlog... Hey, everyone! 🎉 Welcome to the mass post for all things Threads of You: Beyond the Bay, where we spill the beans on what's been brewing... behind the scenes.
This month has been a whirlwind as we inch closer to the big reveal of our demo! Crunch time has hit, and the Lavendeer team has been putting in extra hours. How about a virtual pat on the back for our hard work? 🙌

Programming wise, it's been busy this month! Relationship modifiers, arguably one of the most important things in a romance otome game, between the MC (You) and the characters were successfully implemented.
Alongside that, we've refined our scenes with proper animations to both our characters and UI to make it flow smoother and look pleasing to the eyes! It should also easier to navigate.
On the aesthetic front, our commissioned GUI is now not only complete, but seamlessly integrated into the game! Huge thanks to @sitraxis! We've shown a couple of sneak peeks, but look forward to more now that our key art made by Somate Studio is finished! Big thanks to them as well, we can't wait to show you guys how it looks!
The character customization progress has also undergone a significant overhaul. With a keen focus on every one of our players getting the representation they deserve, we've decided to add more options! Down to more skin tones (including albinism/vitiligo) to even adding religious wear and fashion styles. Feel free to send suggestions under this Twitter post!
Last but certainly not least, the programming team (it's just Lumi) has implemented a series of choices which can further personalize the main character and will reflect in-game (such as height or education)!

Our art team has also achieved a significant amount of milestones as well! The car interior/exterior BG art is now a finished masterpiece thanks to chuupew, Lumi, and newcomer, Jin!
BG art of the Hostel and its interior is currently a WIP, but we are expecting its completion pretty soon. All character sprites have been finished and 6/7 have been posted to all of our socials! Glad you guys are loving them. Huge thanks to @134340zzz and chuupew!
We have one more CG in the works as well! Keep an eye out for that~
Our commissioned keychains and standee designs have also been finished! Big thanks to mochibunny & Luii Lafete! The designs were made for Kickstarter, but Kickstarter's been sort of an issue for us recently... so we'll keep you updated with what we decide to do with these newly made designs.
Fun fact! Our character release sheets were actually inspired by my (siilycat/ai) scuffed Apple notes drawings. I was not home, but I still wanted to share my ~~artistic~~ vision SOMEHOW and I'm glad I did so through my notes app! (I am the only one on the team with no artistic talent whatsoever, but they turned it into something great!)

After further inspection, we realized how... lifeless and subpar some of the writing feels. So we have decided to revisit it and put life into an otherwise mediocre script.
Writing is pretty important in a visual NOVEL and we don't want to disappoint the people who play it. Hope you guys enjoy the new, revised script. We also had a concerning amount of... grammatical errors relating to past/present tense.
We also added more descriptive sections based on the player's choices which is always fun!

In other news, we went from 100 to 1000 followers on Twitter in a month! Isn't that crazy? We were really worried about marketing the game, but I think we're making good progress!
Besides that, we have also started working on the itch.io and kickstarter page! Speaking of kickstarter, we're having issues with it so we're thinking of approaching a couple of publishers... Any suggestions or advice? Hit us up on Twitter!

Our plans for the next month include things like revealing our beautiful key art and final character, holding a raffle to celebrate the support we've gotten, finishing character customization and character expressions, and implementing a unique OST for the demo!
Commissioning music as a person who doesn't know anything about music is a really hard thing to do by the way. Shoutout to our composer, Ben Sigerson for putting up with my bullshit and going COMPLETELY based off of vibes. It's genuinely really good music and we're really low on budget so we thank him for all that he's done.
We really can't wait for you guys to see what we've been cookin' up for the past year. Also, stay on the lookout for an in character q&a soon!

May and June were pretty busy for me, so I didn't have as much time to work on game dev. I'll condense what I've done over those two months into one post.
May and June's work was focused on building a CAMP area. This is where the party gathers outside of the dungeon, and where Ashley can save the game, switch out party members, and rest to restore HP and MP.

It all started with this mockup image here. Originally the Camp and the entrance to the dungeon were supposed to be two separate rooms with a fade-to-black in between them, but that idea didn't make it past the initial concept stage.
The idea for the trees to form this black barrier around the room perimeter was also thrown out - I couldn't use the same principles for designing interiors as I did for outdoor areas. It would take a different approach.

Getting the look right was an involved process. My first blueprints for the entrance made it out to be this enormous megastructure when I actually constructed it in-engine.

Gluing the trees together like A Link to the Past was a good idea though.

Attempts to pare the map down into something more manageable resulted in this awkward half-way step. There were still too many repeated textures for my liking, it was still too big, and it kind of looked like it was under construction instead of being in ruins.

This is the last mockup I went with before I collected the assets and actually built the thing in engine.
I found it useful from a technical perspective to start with a very blown-out, saturated colour palette, and then work "subtractively" from there, dialing down the colours using the in-engine tools as appropriate.

Have I shown off the diagonal stair movement before? That was something I coded myself. The tops and bottoms of the stairs act as little triggers that change the outputs of the movement keys as appropriate. You don't have to zig zag down the stairs like I've seen in some RPG Maker games.

Party members who aren't currently following Ashley will hang back at the campsite. Ashley can swap them out like so - but the assets for everyone aren't quite done yet. Yolei doesn't have a walking sprite!

I did a lot of experimenting to figure out the range of different palettes I could get without making changes to the tileset assets themselves.

I coded an in-game clock that ticks down when Ashley walks around outside of camp. The weather conditions and lighting change depending on when the party returns to camp - this would be late in the day, around sunset.

If the Ashley returns to camp after dark, the remaining party members will have a little fire set up.

The effects to make this fire work right are really elaborate. I might make a second post to explain everything that went into it.

In late December/early January, I had a fit of what I can only call hyperfixation as I got intensely stuck on the idea of a Hotel fangame. It was a personal project that I wanted to try puzzling out, not really anything I intended to have come to fruition or anything. Just a fun thing I spent a bunch of time on in order to learn about what it takes to make a game.
I would alternate between practicing pixel art and interiors from that particular video game perspective, doodling what characters would look like, world sprites and portrait sprites, level ideas, as well as learning how to code and like, principles of video game design and stuff. It was honestly more writing than doodling. I even wrote a whole outline for the overall story.
At first I envisioned it as a Scribblenauts-esque ordeal in which you played as the Lobby Boy and had to build rooms for the guests. Score would be based on combos of items of different categories. I thought about that for like 2 seconds and immediately discarded the idea because that is as far from a starter project as you can get lol. I do still like my idea for the ranking system which would be assorted by brutality, novelty, and style. So if something was sufficiently brutal, it would make up for not being very stylish in the Hotel Herself’s eyes.
Then I thought about something more rpgmaker-esque, more an interactive story than a game, which is what most of these drawings are about. Each level was a particular night, so that would be a fun chance to design different lobbies. After a brief opening w/ the Manager and Owner, the LB would make his way to go build the room. But on the way, he’d be haunted by grotesque phantoms of previous guests that he’d have to solve puzzles in the level to get past.
I haven’t done anything with this stuff in a while but I was looking for something else and found these sketches again n wanted to share them. I feel like I was possessed when I did these bc it was just this extremely focused, can’t-sleep-gotta-create energy burst.

MISC SONIC ASKS

Thank you so very much! I was trying to really combine both Amy and Sonic’s aesthetics. Amy is classy and design oriented so I wanted to keep that feel, but I wanted to show how their home would evolve once she and Sonic start living together. Sonic’s never canonically had a house, but he travels so much that I headcanon that he’s constantly collecting trinkets and souvenirs from all the places he’s visited. So I wanted to give them a very “worldly” design style. If you’re familiar with Uncharted 4, I picture Sonic and Amy’s house being very much like Nate and Elena’s beach house.
I love interior design and architecture but I’m not great at drawing it (yet). Once I improve I want to do a full layout of their house for my stories (and the future Shadora Fortress).

I really enjoyed the movies and I’m excited for the third! I hope they give Shadow a voice that’s deep and delicious and doesn’t sound like a sniveling villain. I don’t like it when they cast him with a very generic evil voice, I prefer it when he’s got depth. Honestly I’d be happy if they stuck with Ian Hanlin, he’s perfect to me.

For the record, I absolutely love that game. Some of my favorite memories involve me and my best friend playing it. He ABSOLUTELY is an avid gun collector. I love seeing the memes of Shadow just rambling off about gun details. BUT HE KEEPS THAT CRAP LOCKED UP IN A SAFE AND UNLOADED AT ALL TIMES!!!!
At least for my stories he isn’t one to actually threaten to harm anybody for wanting to date his kids. He dealt with that enough trying to be with Aurora. But you can bet he won’t think anybody’s worthy to date his kids lol

First of all, I am ALWAYS down for Sonic singing his feelings. Like that is my #1 favorite thing in every story. Whenever he breaks out the guitar/lute I’m like “HELL YEAH LET’S DO THIS”

I loved Amy the minute I saw her so just from a superficial level I was like “These two are too cute together!” But I really fell in love with them when their story evolved and we got to see their dynamism in the games outside of just a cute little pink sprite in Sonic CD. And Sonic X really sealed the deal haha So many romantic moments between them in that show, God bless.

I don’t have any plans on that at the moment. I like that universe and I especially loved how Sonic acted around her in it, but idk if I’ll make a comic about it. But I can never say never!

Thank you so much! I’m self-taught, but I’ve researched a lot of tutorials and references to help me improve over my life. The number one thing people need to study if they want to do comics or animations or anything is ANATOMY! You don’t have to take an anatomy class (I didn’t), but look up references and tutorials to learn how the spine works, how the muscles work, proportions, etc. Even if your characters don’t fall into the typical human form, you still need to understand skeletal structure and muscles.

AURORA ASKS

Thank you! Yes that’s pretty accurate. Their family is all about honesty and telling the truth, but younger Aurora doesn’t like to share all the details with Sonic because he’s so reactive with her and will quickly try to fix whatever the problem is and Aurora wants to learn to fix it herself. Amy is more willing to just listen to Aurora and offer advice if Aurora asks for it. Amy WANTS to beat up whoever is upsetting her daughter but she also knows the importance of learning how to fight for yourself so she wants Aurora to feel empowered to do that.

Thank you! I hope you’re having a great day too! I think Amy is better at TALKING through feelings and Sonic’s better at the overall cheering up way of handling things. So as long as there’s nothing terribly awful bothering Aurora and she’s just feeling a little down, he’ll find ways to make her laugh. Sometimes that means walking in unexpectedly in a costume to shock her or dragging her out of the room to have a musical jam session together. 
Sonic’s also known to give people flowers when they’re sad in canon (he does this regularly in the games and in Sonic X), so he’ll bring her bright, colorful flowers to make her smile.

In my AU, Eggman has already kind of peaked by the time of Boom!Baby. He’s softened a lot and isn’t interested so much in world domination as he just wants attention lol. Having Sage and becoming a father further helped me justify that with my AU. 
He's also particularly sentimental towards Aurora since he helped deliver her, so he doesn’t really fight the team anymore. He is more like a constant pain in their sides mucking things up. 
Sonic team is busy fighting other, newer foes in my AU.

Their biggest challenge is going to be the Time Travel comic that I haven’t completed yet. It’s hardest because not only will lives be put on the line, but it also touches on trust and when to let go. I’m sorry I can’t give you a more detailed answer yet but I don’t want to spoil the plot! They’ve had three litters. I headcanon that back in the day hedgehogs used to have litters (2 or more kids) all the time but that became less and less common in modern day. But I also headcanon that as the Ultimate Lifeform, Shadow was engineered to be able to… multiply effectively. So even though they’ve only been pregnant 3 times, they keep having triplets or twins.

All the kids’ names are supposed to be based on their personalities or powers. Most Sonic characters are named that way, so I don’t know if it’s canon for Mobian parents to sense what their kid’s powers will be or not. Aurora has dreams that sometimes give her premonitions so she had inklings to what their kids might be like so she and Shadow could brainstorm ideas based on that. Also a lot of their names are outer-space-related or at least outer-space-adjacent and that was because Shadow’s a space man lol So he had influence in that. 
Sonic wants all his descendants named Sonic II so he’s no help lol.

There are 3 litters. The first litter has the triplets Piper, Zane and Nova. The second litter was born almost a year and a half later and has the twins Aster and Blitz. The third litter was immediately after and that has the triplets Cinder, Diamond and Boon. All this information is listed in their character reference post. 
In the beginning the family mostly just stuck to ordering online and getting home deliveries lol. But if they do have to do a grocery store run it’s a full family event. The kids all ride on Shadow (see this post). Their house has two fridges to accommodate for all the mouths to feed!
Their life certainly isn’t boring anymore 😂 It’s exhausting but they’re happy (also there are 8 kids haha!)

Aurora definitely would have asked him about this, but at least in my stories Sonic became an orphan at a young age and I don’t have him with any siblings. 
I’ve had another person ask me who I picture Sonic’s parents as and I do plan on drawing a reference of them, but they’ll be unique to my stories. They won’t be from any other Sonic media. 
I don’t draw Aleena, Manic and Sonia because of a couple reasons. I never watched Sonic Underground so I don’t have the allegiance/nostalgia that a lot of people have to that show. Also for my own preference, I don’t like the idea of Sonic being born to royalty. It doesn’t suit him, in my opinion. That doesn’t mean I don’t respect people who have that as a part of their canon and it doesn’t mean I have any bad feelings towards the Underground characters. I just don’t draw them. I grew up on the games and later Sonic X and Sonic Boom so my stories revolve around what I know. 
It’s funny that you mention that ship because I only just learned about it from Starrjoy’s P!AU comic. Again I didn’t watch Sonic Underground so I don’t know who Bernadette is, but sure I’m down for Sonic having two moms. Families come in all shapes and sizes, so as long as they’re a loving parent or parents then I support it.

They love all their grandkids and they love spending time with them, but I think in their older age Sonic and Amy go off on more adventures again. They never stopped adventuring, but they settled down a bit while raising Aurora. Now they’re relishing a second wind and they’re frequently going on worldly explorations.  
But they always make sure to attend any events the kids are involved with and are always home on Sundays for family dinner. Sunday night is dinner at Grandma and Grandpa’s! <— I have them always having dinner at their house on Sundays even before Aurora and Shadow have kids

To be honest, I never felt like they needed more. I had a comic where they discussed it hypothetically, but they’re content with just having the one kid. (Don’t worry, just because they’re not having kids does NOT mean they aren’t… active 😈 They’re very VERY much so!). I am okay with fan stories where people give Aurora siblings and there’s a fic I’m reading right now that involves Sonic and Amy having a whoopsie baby way late in life and adult Aurora is having to deal with that and I love it lol. But just for my own writing, it’s a single-child household.

It is time for our second devlog! 💜 🎉 We made it!
Sadly and as we anticipated, February has been a hell of a month, and March is promising to be the same. I'm mostly glad we made it through. We have a lot of work to do as the trimester comes to an end and there's a considerable amount of things due to before March ends in regards to our intensive master. The team and I are a bit on the stressed side, but we'll make it.
Let's see what our overworked and exhausted souls have managed to pull off this month, shall we?

Raquel started to fix some sprites this month as we had planned, starting with Neela, the second supporting character you'll meet in the demo, who needs a bigger revamp than the rest of LIs. The three characters left without a sprite already have their character sheets and moodboards done, so that's something! We do not want to spoil anything from the character department as we think it's cooler to meet them with their info sheet and with their sprites polished and pretty, so we are hoping we can speed up the process during March!
One of our goals this month was to do some promo art for Valentine's day, and we somehow managed! Special thanks to Raquel who was very excited and invested on this wonderful piece of Xal! 💜
I also worked on the Valentine's cards last minute and just for the funsies, so I really didn't expect them to be as well received as they were! Thank you all so much!

A bit of lore here: Raquel, Astro and I have a class assignment due in March where we have to fully design and render two backgrounds—one interior and one exterior. It's a ton of work, but luckily both Raquel and I have had the chance to orient at least one of those backgrounds to Lost in Limbo.
Raquel is working on Amon's office (and it's looking so great already!) and I'm doing an isometric view of Ara's room. We are always looking for ways to work on the game while doing our master's assignments, but it's not always possible. Hopefuly we can also work on two exterior backgrounds for the demo with this assignment!

This month has been more about planning than writing for me. Remember last devlog when I said I wanted to do some tweaks to the demo script? Well, I have at least been able to properly think about it and draft it. The only thing left is writing it down and implement it to the current script to see how it flows. There'll be even more changes (again) because I have some THOUGHTS (again), and I'm really excited about them. It's adding more content of each LI to the demo to balance things a bit.
I have also been doing some cleaning to our lore documents and I have finally sat down to write every little piece of story from Lost in Limbo in 'chronologic order', more or less. It will help me to always have the bigger picture in mind when writing the routes, and I would love to have everything important settled before the demo release. It's a loooooot of information—not only about the characters and their past overall, but about the world, its many systems, its people...It'll be equally fun and stressful!

In the programming department it has been all about adjusting positions, sprites and definitions to make all the characters fit properly in different scenarios as I code more of the script. Solo, with two characters in screen, with three, with four... It has been a ride (and still is, because I have not finished yet) but it's very rewarding to see everything starting to fall into place. I have also tested more things, like the CGs, the animated backgrounds or some cool transitions! I can't wait to implement the GUI when it's done, uuugh!

This month we have an amazing preview of our GUI! It's still cooking, but we hope we can show you the finished version very very soon! We are soooo excited about it, it's looking perfect so far. There's a few changes to make, but we wanted to at least show you a screen so you can have an idea of how the game will look like!
We want to add more options like a dyslexic font, a skip mode that jumps directly to the next choice without having to wait for all the text to be skipped, and more utility / accessibility options!

This month hasn't been as productive as we would have wanted it to be, but we have managed to still get some progress done. We are begging for March to give us a bit of freedom, specially mental because we honestly need it. It has been difficult to deal with the pressure of our studies and the weight we place on our shoulders wanting to dedicate as much time as we want to LiL. It's frustrating! But we'll get there. Baby steps, as they say!
Exciting things are on the horizon, that is for sure. This devlog has been a bit short and I'm honestly exhausted, so I'll free you! Thank you so much for reading and for your unending support. We are incredibly thankful for all of you! 💜

Ok, Its been a while since ive posted, but ive got a lot done on the Eight freight Chara Front. Here's what I've made in this time: Kris, Frisk & Chara all have finished front railway-man standing sprites, with Kris & Chara both having a full walking Sprite-sheet. Chara also Has a fully fledged Shoveling animation that im very happy with. As for actual trains, ive made UT/DR style British Railways 8F sprites (fully animated!), including a version with the cab interior (sadly I made the exterior sprite 1/2 the size it should be, but i think it still works), and a filled 7 plank wagon. I'm incredibly happy with how this is turning out, and Im currently thinking about making a Railway-man Asriel, along with a BR 20-ton brakevan. I'd have started on Azzy earlier, but I cant find any good Teen Asriel sprites. If anybody knows any, please tell me!

extremely lengthy explanations under the cut:
i actually think the S+A tier speak for themselves?
S tier: the goats. im aware its full of third versions but they just happen to be extremely good and added some insane shit to already solid base games (ok diamond and pearl werent solid but the foundation was there). replayability is insane for these.
A tier: the Oh Fuck Yeah games. not in any particular order actually. hgss is absolutely the best remake of all, only held back by the few inherent flaws of the Johto region and by not emulating Crystal enough. as much as i like bw, reverting back to only one region of pokemon never sat right by me, but it's been a while since ive played it, and nowadays i make much more of an effort to try out all new mons. so i could change my mind on this.
i liked usum more than sun/moon, if only for the post game. replayability isnt as high because of the cutscenes every 3 steps, and rotom dex is annoying as shit. aside from that, insanely solid story & postgame imo. red/blue and gold/silver are brimming with weird places in their regions and are chock full of in game lore and legends, which i really like. the ruins of alph & pokemon tower are some of the best locations theyve ever made imo
B tier is the "good but couldve been better" tier. lets go is insane for shiny hunting, but it stops at that imo. the new rival is garbo. sun and moon are good, but the postgame + alola in general is just lacking enough in these games that they dont reach A tier for me. loveeed the island challenges tho. alola itself has just such a good vibe. you really feel like its about community rather than competition. legends arceus couldve been insanely good, but i have never felt as ripped out of a pokemon game as i did when i walked through that cave in the coronet region and started seeing stray pixels around my character. which wasnt a one time thing btw this happens to anyones game & every time as far as ive seen. its gonna sound dramatic but this combined with other graphics glitches made it so clear i was playing a game that it just took me out of the adventure entirely. this is where the graphics glitches really started, and they havent stopped since.
C tier: yellow is just kinda there? i dont care for starter pikachu. i want to, but it gets killed when breathed at, so. idk. the gimmick doesnt work that well for me. sword and shield introduced some insane mons that i love and i want to call it solid real bad, but the story was hot garbage even for pokemon standards, and while the wild area was a great idea, the execution was lacking & because what i assume is a time crunch, the towns were boring as shit as well. diamond & pearl are mediocre to bad, with a great story and mediocre to bad execution, and i shouldve put oras in the :( tier, but the postgame is worth it.
actually im gonna rant about oras. i was so hyped for it but, just, ugh. if youre gonna turn a 2d vague not-specified-what-a-character-is-doing-or-feeling player character to 3d, at least do it correctly. 2d sprites where someone can fill in the blanks not seen on screen but hinted at in text (ie expressions, actions like handing someone something) work infinitely better than 3d sprites who show it badly. also still suffers from the desaturation curse that the 3ds games suffer from. postgame was dope, though. shame the mega latis are ugly as shit.
:( tier: garbage, im so sorry. SV's only redeeming factor is the area zero story. there is nothing else in the game that held my attention. fuck the star team, fuck the big pokemon quests, fuck the towns where you cant talk to anyone or find anything interesting or walk into a house and where every shop looks the game. fuck stores not even having an interior anymore. fuck this larger but emptier and stripped down world full of graphical glitches. fuck the weak ass gyms, fuck geeta, and fuck terrastalizing most of all. i will die for Koraidon & the professor fight fucking ruled but that's all the game had to it for me. do any of yall remember the gym leaders besides like, iono and the snowboard man? no you dont, stop lying to me. gen I put more life into lavender town by making a npc reference some ghost hand on your shoulder than SV does for any town, and they only had black and white 32mb cartridges or whatever to work with. for fucking shame gamefreak. give your devs some time to make a halfway functioning game.
firered and leafgreen do nothing new. i will not discuss the sevii islands. what the fuck even was that. boring. same with brilliant diamond and shining pearl. theyre lower than diamond and pearl because why the fuck did they not decide to remake platinum. what the hell was their damage. seriously platinum was RIGHT there. i caught a full odds shiny ghastly in that game and i still dont care about it.

Hi!! First I just wanna say that I really enjoy your art, your style is very cute! Also, I noticed that you've established Wren as a monster keeper. If that's still a part of her lore, how did she start doing that sort of thing? :3

also thank u sm for asking 😽 wren is what i like to call an "accidental monster keeper"
there's an event in her story that causes monsters never before seen to enter town and run amok (as much as i want to infodump about this event, i wanna introduce some more characters first 👁️)
but one of these new creatures is a pretty down on his luck monster. he's kinda at the bottom of the food chain and starving thanks to the bigger stronger monsters taking all the good meals and only leaving his kind the scraps
he manages to escape into town and makes his new home in wren's cellar of all places. the monster figures that this is great. he knows someone lives here based off of the well kept and decorated interior so it's only a matter of time before that person gets back home. once they get back, he'll make himself known and devour their soul. an easy meal and much better than the scraps he's been living off of for who knows how long
however all his hopes, dreams, and aspirations are crushed when he corners wren and is mere seconds away from eating her, only for her to tell him that she's not fully human.
his kind isn't able to digest the souls and bodies of witches. the only beings he can eat are humans and lower level monsters like slimes, dust sprites, bats, and bugs. not as fulfilling though
so he's devastated, the hunger pains have been getting to him and the one human looking person he finds turns out not to be human at all.
wren doesn't exactly know what to do about him. he begs her not to kill him or send him back to his realm (which she doesn't even know how to do). she knows she should tell marlon about this situation, but at the same time she takes pity on the monster. he seems more like a giant pathetic wet cat than anything, but she doesn't want to risk him escaping and eating humans.
luckily he loves pink cake

Camp Hamato : A New Year’s Nuisance
A New Years Camp Hamato Fic
(Colored Dialogue is the Cabin Leaders speaking [Leo, Mikey, Donnie, Raph, April, and Casey], While colored names are names of the counselors, the color of the name will be what cabin they are in [ex. If counselor’s name is blue, they are a Blue Beauty Counselor.])
It was new years day, and everyone was knocked out and hungover (by juice, soda, sparkling water, and other child-friendly drinks)- until..
“CABIN LEADERS!”
A counselor burst into the break room (which is only used for making midnight snacks, coffee, tea, retrieving energy drinks,mug cakes, and whatever someone may do in a break room), flailing in panic as the cabin leaders were busy trying to recover from the new year party’s events; with Leo sipping on Chamomile tea that Mikey made, Donnie passed out next to a mug of now room-temperature coffee mixed with some Red Bull that he mixed himself, along with Raph also sipping tea with Mikey, April, and Casey. It was best to say the cabin leaders weren’t ready for the news that they would soon know..
In a few seconds.
Leo nearly choked on his tea, startled by the yell as everyone else were sobered from their exhaustion- except for Donnie, now thinking that someone was missing or killed.
“What happened?! Did someone get hurt? Is someone hurt? Did someone set something on fire? What is it- WHAT IS IT???” Worried April, who nearly dropped her mug of tea, with mikey thankfully catching it with his hand (with the other holding his own mug)- but with some of the tea unfortunately spilling. Raph nearly broke the mug with her hands due to the sudden yell, not expecting something so loud to hear in the crack of the morning.
“There’s a problem at the counselor’s cabin- oh.” The counselor explained- before realizing that the cabin leaders were still trying to wake up after a very long night. “Uh- Sorry.” The counselor mumbled, embarrassed about such a scare to the cabin leaders. “No need to be sorry- what happened?” Raph assured, standing up and setting her mug down on the coffee table. “There’s a problem at the counselor’s cabin- everyone’s knocked out!” The counselor detailed, before all the cabin leaders suddenly sped out the cabin, somehow getting to the counselor’s cabin in almost under a minute- with a fruity smell emitting from the door. “…well that was fast.” The counselor mumbled.

When they got there, they all looked around- with the exterior looking casual as always, but as soon as they opened the door, it was almost like a murder mystery..without the murder.
“Oh. My. Gosh.” Mikey marveled, looking at the quiet chaos of the counselor’s cabin; with three counselors dogpiled under the mistletoe; four counselors sleeping on two sides of the couch- with two sleeping peacefully, and the other two laid next to eachother…along with a ping-pong paddle stuck in the ceiling and a few other things evident in the cabin’s interior. “What happened?” Donnie yawned, now exhausted from running and having to see a few of his own counselors in the mess. “Looks like their party went wrong- what type of soda did we give them?” April asked, looking over at the other cabin leaders, before Donnie took out his phone and opened his spreadsheet app (which is used for 90% of the camp parties, except for the *cross-cabin sleepovers). “All three Coke variations (original, diet, zero sugar), Sprite, Fanta, Dr.Pepper, Canada Dry Ginger Ale, and..sparkling water, if that is a soda.” Donnie listed, eyeing the bottle sparkling water on the table suspiciously.
“All of those aren’t bad- maybe it was a massive sugar crash?” Mikey suggested, looking at how tired they all were. “Possibly,” Donnie simply responded, “But it smells like Leo.” He joked with a snort, “Very funny, Donnie.” Leo rolled his eyes, before giving Donnie a hard punch to his shoulder. “Hold the jokes for later, for now we need to find out what happened and who was where.” April reminded as Casey (who was going to playfully scare April), was simply standing behind her, her fingers curled like claws before she was stopped, “What’re you doing here, Casey?” Mikey pointed out, before Casey let out a groan of defeat, “Casey?” April looked over, seeing Casey with a frown. “My plan has FAILED!” Casey cried out, on her knees before Leo patted her back, “I’ve been there, Casey.” Leo assured.

A few minutes into the “invesigation”, a few (but not all) counselors were recognized: Hibiscus, Khaos, Amora,**Phoenix, **Silk, **Fin, and two visitors from Camp Usagi- **Koral and **Stingray- with four (Leo, Raph, April, and Mikey) of the cabin leaders questioning a few of the counselors while the other two (Casey & Donnie) helping the other counselors in the nurse’s cabin and giving them some water. Leo was interrogating the visitors;Raph was interrogating Hibiscus, Khaos, and Amora; Mikey was interogating Phoenix and Fin, April was interrogating and Silk.
“So I gotta ask, how did you two get here?” Leo raised a brow suspiciously, interrogating Koral and Stingray, who merely came “to celebrate with the other counselors” , “We came because we wanted to celebrate with the other counselors!” Said Koral, “Me too.” Said Stingray. “So what were you two doing yesterday’s party?” Leo leaned towards them, observing their behaviors closely- it was almost amusing to Koral and Stingray.
“We just sat on the couch, just before everything went crazy.” Stingray replied.
“Before everything went crazy?” Leo repeated, before both Koral and Stingray nodded.
“Yep.” Koral confirmed.
“Could you…perhaps tell me what happened?” Leo awkwardly asked
“Sure.” Stingray agreed.

“And what can you remember?” Raph kindly asked, while Khaos, Hibiscus, and Amora were sitting across from her.
“uh…a mistletoe?” Doubted Hibiscus,
“Oh yeah!” Amora agreed, as Khaos was nodding off with soft snorts.
“Anything else?”
“Yeah- Amora landing on me and Khaos.” Hibiscus grumbled, before Amora gave him a playful nudge, “It was on accident!” Amora chuckled.
“I could guess that.” Raph smiled, seeing the two counselors be playful after an odd event.

“And what were you doing at last night’s party?” April inquired of Silk, who was glaring at her, “And why should you know?” Silk sneered, “Silk, please.” April pried, as Silk crossed her arms, “You tell me and I’ll tell you.” Silk bargained. “Fine, deal. Apparently a counselor came up to us and told us in the morning that you guys were something happened last night, so we came and found you guys asleep like a naptime at a daycare.” April explained, picking up a notebook and a somehow chewed pencil. “Oh, that.” Silk mumbled, glancing off somewhere, “Well, I was hanging out with Trickster, until I saw a precious, perfect lamp.” Silk purred, having taking a liking to lamps.
“Then what?”
“…I may have eaten it.”
“You WHAT.”
“DON’T TELL RAPH.”
“…fine, only if you tell me what happened- WITH FULL HONESTY.” April assured.
“Okay, okay, fine!” Silk accepted, waving her hand dismissively to forget the ‘eating a lamp’ part (..which is awfully unforgettable.)

The Sprites of fiery Termagants in Flame Mount up, and take a Salamander's name. Soft yielding minds to Water glide away, And sip, with Nymphs, their elemental Tea. The graver Prude sinks downward to a Gnome, In search of mischief still on Earth to roam. The light Coquettes in Sylphs aloft repair, And sport and flutter in the fields of Air.
alchemical properties and future creatures and theories based upon the works of Jābir ibn Hayyān and Paracelsus Hohenheim. Jabir's ultimate goal was Takwin, the artificial creation of life in the alchemical laboratory, up to, and including, human life. He analyzed each Aristotelian element in terms of four basic qualities of hotness, coldness, dryness, and moistness. According to Jabir, in each metal two of these qualities were interior and two were exterior. For example, lead was externally cold and dry, while gold was hot and moist.

there is so much to sift through, so much, but piecing it all together and shifting into a true world for her is going to be fun! her basic principles will be the same, but the beginning of that universe will be different. i cant wait to piece it all together properly

Irregular Monday Update, Edition 8

To lead with some exciting news: the incredibly talented Remnantation has reopened their commissions! Rem has been working on Bright Oak nearly as long as I have at this point, and in the process they've become an incredibly dear friend, as well as treasured collaborator. If you're looking for the whole package-- professionalism, talent, and excellent communication-- I can give them my whole-hearted recommendation.
As for where Bright Oak stands:
Thanks to Wudgeous (@herotome) handling the base coding, I've been able to make great headway on adding in expressions and poses, with only a small handful of scenes remaining to finish out Act I. Still gonna be a crunch to get the demo done by end of this month / early next, but shouldn't be far off!
@remnantation has finished up everyone's colors and is now working on secrets;
I worked on sound design for the first act, and specific cues for John's music; 
Background Countdown: I finally managed to push through some art block I've had on a location interior, and am now done with six of the sketches, working on a seventh, with six remaining for the demo / approximately 17 sketches remaining total (still at 22/60 total backgrounds/variations fully complete, since I like to do the painting in batches to color match)
To Do Next (may involve some déjà vu-- again):
Backgrounds! Backgrounds! More backgrounds! More!
Continue coding in sprite expressions and poses;
Play around with some additional special effects and transitions;
Nail down the list of CGs needed (for those unfamiliar with the term, these are special illustrations which pop up in response to specific story events and noteworthy dialogues);

Instead of getting Fire, Grass, or Water as your starter, your father gives you a Rock/Dragon, Flying/Dragon, or Fighting/Dragon to start your journey. And your twin, of course, is late, so you get to pick first. When they do pick, it's a random one based on what's left.
Your mom, meanwhile, is the champion of the region, so you almost never see her, but the money she makes as champion helps cover a fair amount of the ranch expenses.
Also, I'm going to have a ditto that likes hide and seek and will disguise itself as a random Pokemon on the ranch if you interact with it. Not sure if it's just a fun side game or if you actually get anything from it, though maybe your dad tasks you with finding this thing.
