Serenity and Kisara are may the same person?
Tumblr media
Some Silentshippers speculate that Serenity and Kisara could be the same person. And the artist Setsunakou has also taken up this idea in her artworks. Among others in this picture. ~*~ L O O K: Both have those trademark eyes that Kishimoto uses for most of his female characters. Mai and Ishizu, for example, have different eye shapes that make them look a little more grown-up. Important to note: Serenity's previous design even had blue eyes, like Kisara.
Tumblr media
Now let's get to the hair. As you can see from Seto and Mahad, the incarnated people do not necessarily to have exactly the same appearance. Seto's Egyptian version has longer hair and Mahad, as a magician, has a different hair color. So Kisara's incarnation may have shorter hair and a different hair color. The fact that Serenity doesn't have her hair on her face isn't a sign that she couldn't be Kisara. Look here:
Tumblr media
The old version of Joey Wheeler had the same parted hair as Serenity. In the new version they fall in his face. When Akiza from 5D's opens her hair, it looks almost exactly like Kisara's. So if Serenity put her hair over her face, she would look almost exactly like Kisara. C H A R A K T E R: Let's try to assign character traits to the two. Serenity: Good-natured, gentle, a little naive, compassionate, shy, vulnerable, have her inner strength, optimistic, fragile. Kisara: Mysterious, lonely, shy, calm, sometimes a little self-confident. Ine the manga more passive, lonly and tired of life.
I looked for the characteristics from the relevant wikis. So they are not mine. Kisara and Serenity seem pretty weak at first glance. Seto even had to save Kisara twice, because she didn't know how to help herself. Serenity, on the other hand, is very attached to her big brother and lets him protect her. Tristan also sacrificed himself for her in the duel against Nezwitt in the virtual world. Both are quite shy and reserved, even seem a little fragile. Both are very gentle and have their inner strength that comes out in crucial moments. The differences Serenity seems to be cheerful, naive and a little more dependent than Kisara. On the other hand, Kisara makes a rather mysterious and lonely impression. But that also has to do with how they grew up. Serenity always had the protection and love of her mother and brother. Kisara, on the other hand, seemed to have had no one. Especially since she was captured by slave traders, stoned and had to fight alone against monsters. If Kisara had grown up as sheltered as Serenity, her character would not have been any different. S E T O ` S R E A C T I O N: I'm talking about Seto Kaiba here, not Priest Seto. Just to be able to classify it. When he met Kisara, he was extremely shocked because he recognized her from a vision of himself. He had this vision after Battle City and the Virtual World. When he meets Serenty, he reacts quite calmly, indirectly fulfills his request and his gaze rests on her for quite a long time. So it could be that he subconsciously recognized her but couldn't place her. As I said, he only knew Kisara from one of the visions he had after his meeting with Serenity. ~*~ It will probably remain just a theory. But to me it makes perfect sense. What do you think about that?

Episode 27: The Fall of Kaiba! The Invincible Toon World!
Rose was with her friends on the balcony. Frowning as she gazed at the Dueling Ring below her. About to witness a duel with her long-time crush (which none of her friends know about), Seto Kaiba, and her archrival, Pegasus J. Crawford.
She was an entrant to Duelist Kingdom.
-FLASHBACK-
Before her parents moved her and her older brother, Ash, to Japan, she was a local champion in the state championship in America. Having lived in the south, she has a southern American drawl.
Somehow, Pegasus found out about her being an ex-reining champion for Virginia, which was where she lived. He sent her a package with a dueling glove, two star chips and a video.
Both her and her brother was curious about the video and popped it in. Quite eager before she was brought out of the real world. To which she started to panic.
"My darling Cecelia," came Pegasus' creepy drawl. "Oh how I missed you so~."
Rose raised an eyebrow, annoyed. "Who you talkin' 'bout, asshole?" She asked in her southern accent.
Pegasus looked offended. "You don't remember your husband?"
Rose begun to snarl. "What makes you think Ai'm your wife?!" She was completely baffled and disgusted.
"You look exactly like her," he deadpanned.
Rose rolled her eyes. "Sorry, hun. Ya've got the wrong gal."
He smirked. "I heard that you were a state champion for X* years."
"What's it to ya?" She was hesitant now.
"Why don't we have a little friendly duel?" He held up his deck. "However, I think we should make it a little interesting."
"And how do ya wanna make it interestin'?" She took out her placemat and placed her deck where it should be.
"If I win, you enter my tournament and I get to take what is precious to you."
"And if I win, I don' and I'll continue my retirement." She gave an innocent smile.
"Also, there will be a time limit."
She just has a confident glint in her eyes.
"Let's duel," they said in unison.
Fifteen Minutes Later...
Rose was in complete shock.
How could've I lost? She asked herself.
"Now I get to take something precious to you!" He gave an evil laugh as his weird eye glowed.
She saw the beam of light go over her head and hit her brother.
"Ash!" She yelled. Wanting to go over to him. However, she found that she couldn't move.
She had to watch her brother's soul get ripped out of his body. Which was sucked into the TV set.
"Rose!" He yelled through the screen. Appearing for only a minute.
Then she pressed her hands against the screen. Tears streaming down her face as she screamed for her brother, over and over again.
-FLASHBACK ENDS-
Her hands gripped the little water elemental locket around her neck. Inside was a picture of her family, which was both her parents, her and her brother.
I will defeat you, Pegasus. She thought with such vengeance. You will release my Nii-sama from that Soul Card.
Pegasus' eyes drifted up to her with a smile. "Cecelia!" He cried, waving to her. "My sweet, darling Cecelia!"
Rose just cringed. Looking absolutely disgusted. "Ya've got thee wrong gal!" She shouted in response.
Out of the corner of her eyes, she saw Seto looking at her and Pegasus. And boy did he look ready to murder the Industrial Illusions CEO.
"She's a stupid American southerner!" Seto shouted. Despite his feelings for the blonde girl. "And she isn't your dead girlfriend!"
Rose's hopes died immediately. Then retaliated.
"I'm NOT a stupid American southerner!" She screamed. "When I get my hands on ya, ya're dead!" She was shaking her fists in anger Which hid her sadness and disappointment in her voice.
He'll never change. She depressingly thought. Not for me...
When her friends were focused on the duel, she slipped away to get away. And to be alone in her thoughts.
Several Minutes Later...
Before the duel concluded, Seto apologized to his brother, Yugi, and, the second person that is precious to him, Rose.
Afterwards, Pegasus had his goons take Seto away while Rose had begun her way back towards the arena.
Her eyes widened, a gasp escaping her lips, as she watched Pegasus' goons drag Seto's lifeless body away.
Running in front of Seto, her hands lightly cupping his cheeks as she gazed into his lifeless eyes.
"Seto?" She asked. Tears had begun to form in her crystalline eyes. "What had he done to ya? My dear, sweet, darling Seto..."
Rose? Seto asked, locked away inside the Soul Card. He looked around in confusion, but faintly smiled. He reached a hand out into the void, hoping to touch a wall or something. In hopes that he could touch her hand or cheek or even a strand of her long, soft blonde hair. It's as if I could hear her and feel her warm, loving touch on my cheek... Yugi will get us all out, my dear... Have faith in him, but don't get too depressed when you can't rescue me. I know that we'll be reunited in the end...
Having forgotten that there were guards around. Until the last minute where two more goons appeared and grabbed her arms.
She was struggling against them. Which proved to be futile.
"Let me go!" She shouted as they drug Seto away from her. "Seto!" She repeated, over and over. More tears escaped her eyes.
Soon she gave up. Slumping in their grasps.
I WILL make you pay, Pegasus. She mentally vowed. Determination and anger shone in her clear blue eyes. For stealing away the two most precious people away from me... I will get you... If it's the last thing I do...

Snowy Skies and Mistletoe
Pairing- Seto Kaiba x Reader
Word count- 1k
Summary- Seto Kaiba and the reader find themselves caught in a snowstorm, leading to a cozy and romantic moment under the falling snow.
The café was a quaint little establishment, with the scent of freshly brewed coffee lingering in the air. The warmth inside offered a stark contrast to the frigid cold outside. Seto Kaiba, ever the picture of stoicism, tried to hide any trace of discomfort as he reluctantly removed his coat, revealing a crisp suit underneath. On the other hand, you, unfamiliar with the biting chill of winter, shivered slightly, clutching onto your coat for warmth.
Seto cast a discerning gaze in your direction, his eyes narrowing slightly as if studying an interesting puzzle. "[Y/N], it would be foolish of you to catch a cold because of your inability to dress appropriately for the weather."
You raised an eyebrow, a spark of defiance lighting up your eyes. "Well, not all of us are used to dealing with extreme weather conditions on such a frequent basis, Kaiba."
Ignoring the thinly veiled insult, Seto leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. "Regardless, we need to wait out this storm. I won't have you ruining my plans because of your negligence."
You sighed, realizing that arguing with Kaiba was an exercise in futility. "Fine, but only because I don't want to be responsible for your plans getting all twisted. What are we supposed to do until the storm passes?"
Seto glanced around, his eyes settling on a small, unassuming Christmas tree in the corner of the café. "I suppose we could engage in some mindless holiday festivities until the weather outside improves."
As if on cue, the café's owner approached, a mischievous glint in his eye. "I heard you two are stuck here for a while. How about a friendly game of cards to pass the time?"
Seto Kaiba's competitive spirit immediately flared. "Cards? Fine. But don't expect me to go easy on you."
The hours passed in a blur of strategic moves and witty banter. Despite the initial tension, a surprising camaraderie developed between you and Seto. The simple card game became a welcome distraction, making you two forget about the snowstorm outside.
As the game reached its climax, the café owner chuckled. "You two make quite the team. I almost forgot about the storm raging outside. How about a break? I'll make some hot chocolate to warm you up."
Grateful for the respite, you and Seto found a corner of the café where you could relax. Seto, always the pragmatist, pulled out his laptop and began typing away, absorbed in some work-related emails. You watched him for a moment, appreciating the focused intensity etched into his features.
Eventually, you could not resist the lure of the snowy scene outside. "Come on, Kaiba. You can't work all the time. Let's go see the snow. It’s not every day I get the opportunity to experience weather like this.”
Seto hesitated, torn between the persistent demands of his work and the allure of a rare moment of leisure. Eventually, he closed his laptop with a curt click. "Fine. But let’s make it quick."
Stepping outside, the both of you were greeted by a winter wonderland bathed in the soft glow of streetlights and the twinkling stars above. The snow fell gently, creating a serene and magical atmosphere. You twirled around with glee, catching snowflakes on your tongue, while Seto observed you with a rare flicker of amusement.
"This is incredible," you exclaimed, your eyes sparkling with childlike wonder.
Seto, for a fleeting moment, found himself caught in the enchantment of the snowfall. He walked alongside you, your footsteps leaving a trail in the freshly fallen snow. Unbeknownst to you two, the café owner watched from the window, a knowing smile playing on his lips.
As you and him meandered through the snowy streets, you couldn't help but appreciate the unexpected beauty of the moment. "You know, Seto, sometimes it's okay to take a break and enjoy life."
He raised an eyebrow, a hint of skepticism in his voice. "Enjoy life? That's not exactly in my job description."
You couldn’t help but laugh, your breath forming small clouds in the chilly air. "Well, maybe it's time to update that job description. Life is full of surprises, and sometimes you just have to go with the flow."
You guys walked in comfortable silence for a while, the only sound being the soft crunch of snow beneath your boots. Eventually, Kaiba spoke up.
"Enough of this nonsense. Let's head back to the café. I've wasted enough time on frivolities."
Before you could protest, you noticed a small cluster of mistletoe hanging from a nearby lamppost. An idea sparked in your mind. "Wait, Kaiba. Look up."
Seto followed your gaze, and his eyes narrowed at the sight of the mistletoe. "What's the point of—"
Before he could finish his sentence, you stood on your tiptoes, pressing a quick but gentle kiss to his cheek. You smirked, satisfied with the surprise written across his usually composed face.
"Consider that a lesson in going with the flow," you teased.
Seto Kaiba, for once, found himself at a loss for words. As the both of you made your way back to the café, a newfound warmth blossomed between you, not just from the hot chocolate waiting inside, but from the unexpected magic of a snowy night and the gentle reminder that even the CEO of KaibaCorp could be caught off guard by the whims of fate.
Back in the café, the warmth enveloped you like a comforting embrace. The owner handed you each a steaming mug of hot chocolate, and you and Seto settled into a cozy corner, content in each other's company. The storm raged outside, but within the walls of the café, you and Seto Kaiba discovered a quiet sanctuary, a moment frozen in time, and the promise of a future where the unexpected could lead to something beautiful.
AN: MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! I have been so busy preparing for the holidays, but I wanted to put something out :3 I hope everyone is having a chill day wherever in the world you are

4. Last Film: Technically Pulse/Kairo by Kurosawa Kiyoshi for my final paper for one of my classes. The last film I watched just for entertainment was John Carpenter’s The Thing. Practical effects my beloved.
5. Currently Reading: Mostly just Raphael x Tav (x Haarlep) fics I find on Ao3 or on here. I’m horribly behind on my book reading.
6. Currently Watching: Just finished rewatching Hbomberguy’s plagiarism video and before that a rewatch of Lindsay Ellis’ Love Never Dies video. Oh and Columbo, one of my favorite tv shows.
7. Currently Consuming: Soon gonna have some pizza, once I get myself ready, lol.

Blue Eyes White Serpent ((Naga!Kaiba X Reader))
((Heyo, peeps and peepettes! Princess Tina here to present y'all a very special fanfic I may have wrote something short or not ((😅)), but still a great treat for all the Kaiba fangirls out there. 😊 So, I had an idea in my head for a late Year Of The Dragon event where the multibillionaire genius CEO becomes a tyrannical half hybrid draconic naga known as the Blue Eyes White Serpent, the most powerful specimen as well as deadliest predator in the forest. Now then, hope ya enjoy the story 😄))
Upon this tranquil paradisic environment of a polluted free scenery that is the emerald wilderness underneath the purified orb of morning light like a sunshine pouring its gentle glistening brightness onto the cleansing meadows teeming with harmless naturistic creatures both enormous as well as miniature combined in once, you, a beautiful ordinary young woman who lived alone into the residential abode protectively surrounded by fences other than only several lonesome vegetative trees, are lounging quietly onto the comfort sofa within a decent living room with your legs firmly crossed instead of spreading them wide for an unreasonable purpose whatsoever.
Quietly reading a regular novel in both palms using an exception about holding it with one hand, there's nothing more serene or pleasant than to just simply indulge some quality time studying at ease, sipping silently on a warm cup of peppermint leaf herbal tea to your unblemished lips while feasting your ears to the soothing volume of outdoor music played by the radio as a medium-sized stereo box delivers its harmless waves across the indoor area.
Whistling out a relaxing sigh forming as a songful hum that escapes from your non bacterial lungs during an average activity in the comfort of your own domain, carefully flicking parts about your hygienic hair/bangs aside preventing it to barricade your view on the favorable fable.
Lingering within the mildest cesspool of absolute serenity siding by Mother Nature's courteous palms cherishing both her vegetative homeland and visiting humans conjoined together inside a similar society on this earthly atmosphere instead of one singular race by lonesome, is truly a compassionate utopia to utterly dream of or live into eternal prosperity.
Lacking any form of aching anxieties about further dangers, cash loving poachers, even furious endangered species intending to shoot a ruin on such a perfectly well balanced wonderland of the wildlife just for ruthless ambitions as well as sinful amusements to their cruel liking.
Speaking of something or someone whose completely dangerous as well as cruelly powerful to the core than all three meaningless non threats alongside weak willed vicious animals in the environmental fields, an ultimately superior half draconic serpent headed with efficient hazel colored short hair, deadly sapphire crystalized eyes, a flawless muscular torso that is unscathed from measly predators, then an arrogant demeanor which incredibly possess unlimited arctic daggers yearning to impale any spinless fool who would dare stood in his way impatiently when it comes to apprehending his fresh prey.
His name is Seto Kaiba, predatoric tyrant from the unknown depths of Kaiba Kingdom, secondly known toward every other imperfect underlings of both kinds as the Blue Eyes White Serpent. All have heard, been gullibly frightened of, more so, would become thousands times more foolish enough to oppose or encounter him with countless countless means necessary, of course if they are fully prepared to face their optionless demise by the cerulean serpentine's supremely devastating attack so vilely indestructible called White Lightning Burst, a terrorizing element for which he unleashes the blazing energetic aura carrying an issueless control once accumulated an abundance of power and then, fires the atomic winter lighted beam from his mouth to instantly dismantle imperfect foes as well as human garbage from his sight.
He demands no wretched equal, disgusting friendship or measly tag alongs. Most importantly of all, nothing in this circle shaped ball decorated of sea as well as ground will ever measure upward to the glorified predatory emperor of power. For every single goal shall always descend into his claws, never forgetting about taking anything he desires by force.
Sauntering aimlessly throughout the lively pillaring pine woods holding an empty bucket in your hand by a handle to fetch some clear H2O, you unhastingly began to feel the mellifluous gale generously caressing on your fairly smooth skin alongside your gorgeous locks as you allow it to do so.
Accompanied with innocent hearted quadruple feathered birds greeting in a sweet loveable chirp to you until one of them glided over to your shoulder, petting it with a finger onto the head writing a warm smile in your expression.
Finally arriving toward the majestic lake after an "exhaustingly" long stroll around the green maze, possessing no signs of complaints, you advanced closer to the elegantly crisp liquid with a pale in two hands being prepped for liquid hunting, bending down cautiously to scoop up a small pint of water from the gigantic puddle heretofore returning to the house.
Suddenly, out of the blue, there was a menacing hiss that emits somewhere into the territorial grounds following with several soundings of rustling bushes caused by an anonymous reptile, however, it wasn't an original snake or a large andocanda. Instead, it is yet a much colossal encounter for some people like you to watch out for, or act literally concerning about warnful encounters.
Becoming extremely cautious of your unprotective surroundings, wielding a water filled bucket toward your chest, the sibilated sound has started to increase thus closely, poking out its deadly iced peepers throughout the bushes straightly at you to observe your species. This time, an unknown noise have chosen a better victim, one who poses as a helpless little damsel foolishly lost her way inside the center of a jungle.
"Hmm.... What do we have here.....? A defenceless little bitch with no proper sense of direction whatsoever? How utterly curious...." The darkly voice mutter inaudibly, spying on you without notice as it soaks its lips by the long tongue slowly rotating.
Lastly, without any additional volunteers present, including other differential females to appear as well as come up here to bravely obtain the rap, that defenseless young damsel....is you. Having no plentiful time to ponder about retaliation nor attempting to seek for a safe spot to hide, you decided to run away from the unstoppable threat immediately deserting behind a bucket of cool water afar of the bayou earlier without looking back.
"Heh.... That's right, you impudent little bird.... Fly away to your nest.... As far as you hardly can... For it'll only be a matter of time until I apprehend my sweet meal without breaking a pathetic sweat...."
Unexpectedly behind, an inescapable pursuer exceeds the average speed of pathetically slow beasts such as cheetahs, foxes, the other types also by his ginormous wings atop of his back. Making this useless game of cat and mouse as effortless as solving a diamond theft case to his part. You started to flee even faster to your hardest than ever before, especially when your own well being is at stake or in peril. Unfortunately, it was already too late for you to reach toward your household as your chaser's tail unnoticeably grabbed you from nowhere.
A shocking gasp flows right out of your mouth due to an easy apprehension, your body has been sealed by a beastly grasp of a coil as you inaugurately tried to struggle yourself free out of this predicament. Afterwards, a devious chuckle is now magnifyingly heard towards you, belonging to none other than the legendary tyrannical dragon naga himself.
"Well well.... Look what I have caught in my tail.... A naughty little treassser who ignorantly filched something that doesn't belong to her... Just my luck..." Spoke the cockingly handsome brunette, slowly revealing his extraordinary self with a carving smirk on his boned face while restraining your every move to scram safely.
Gulping in infinite silence with a side of an undoubtable petrified look into your eyes as you first witnessed your merciless captor in the flesh, Kaiba can actually sense your unfleeing fear too clearly. Slithering toward your helplessness then extending his hand to cup your soft cheeks, he coyly tsks.
"Foolish little tramp... Haven't your idiot parents ever told you not to steal someone's important possessions without consent? For example, my luxurious bathing pond?"
Now that you really thought about it, since the early day where you went onward at a pond to grab some water before this incident had occurred, you have infiltrated his most restricted but also secretly rare kingdom, it all come back to your senses.
Your pupils redirected from the ground to his, bowing your head an apologetic matter for infiltrating his formal property. Although that the all mighty remorseless half snake such as him would always turn down as well as refuse to accept anyone's blabbering apologies for wasting his flawless time, which he never does, he had some occasional ideas on what to do with you instead.
"Fine then. I'll accept your little apology for now. But on one condition..."
Your head once again starts to nod as you would listen to him very closely, doing your best to not get on his nerves, waste his competent time, or piss him off quickly.
"Until you will learn to stay out of my domain and to know your place like an obedient little pheasant, you'll become my personal slave for the rest of your worthless life. Otherwise, your precious little body belongs to me only. Nobody else can have you nor will you go back to your ridiculous home. You obey only to me. Understand?"
Thirdly, you had no choice but to offer him a covenant nod of your head complying to his utter whim without resistance. His smirk grew slightly wider at your response.
"Good. At least you learn your lesson by now, little bird. Never invade my personal territory again or I will have the pleasure of devouring your slutty body whole myself. So you had better remember that and do as I command. That's your first order from now on." He demanded coolly, having you to reply at his command simultaneously.
"Mmm... That's better. You're beginning to behave yourself like a good little tweetling for once. Despite your puny resistance against my maximum superiority or foolishly attempting to escape my reach, you would do well to satisfy my needs. Whether you will like it or not...." Grinned Kaiba, still holding your damageless face in one hand yanking it closer to his.
"As of right now, you will address me as "superior master". Meaning that I alone will dominate everything in my path by force. That includes you too, birdie~ Just so long as you don't disappoint me any further like the repulsive lot~, that is...."
Casting aside a now forgetful misunderstanding accident to the breeze, Kaiba initiated his seductive personality into complete secrecy just for you, reaching his face over to yours before impaling your lips deeply with his. Traditionally, presenting a slightly painful nibble unto your soft thin neck first. A whimpering moan hurls afar of your lovely maw as he then bit into it. Symbolizing you as his personal irreplaceable slave for eternity.
Lastly, the moment of truth now arises from its slumber as the draconical genius directs his attention from the bitten neckcollar, aiming it toward as well as laying dual clawed hands on your heavenly puff cheeks to gladly consider your apology with acceptance of a kiss.
"And as for your apology, I will declare this....acceptable. In other words, you'll forevermore belong to me, my troublesome little bird~...."
His cold thin line lips has been granted an honor to jammed them into your sweet warm ones so deeply and with enough white energy inside his hybrid anatomy, extra hungrily to only absorb an ever living breath thoroughly from your lungs. You respond this harden osculation properly despite yourself becoming unable to be released from the coiled up position.
Endlessly making out along with the ocean eyed naga holding your body close into his smexy arms in an embracive cuddle, sharing each other's tongues, this too, will surely be of your magical once and a life time fantasy you'll never wish to forget or ignore at all. Rearranging from a decently singular girl, to accepting of being Seto Kaiba's cute little love slave forever, disregarding about you not asking for this.
All has becoming fascinatingly perfect for the both of you. Regardless of the polar opposites in the world, Mother Nature, not to mention a treasured relationship between Kaiba as well as you, has hardly ever been this gracefully harmonious.
"You're all mine now, my helpless little slave~...."
The End

Endgame Chapter (3/10)
Mai wished Serenity hadn’t left her alone.
But she didn’t blame her either. The mood was tense, to say the least, and neither she nor Joey knew what to say to each other. Joey was especially nervous, flitting about the kitchen, making pancakes, checking the coffee (she knew he didn’t drink coffee), anything to distract himself. It was a comfort to know he was as anxious as she was.
She took a sip of coffee and then added several spoonfuls of sugar. Serenity drank very strong coffee…
“Are you back for good?” Joey had finally spoken. He leaned against the counters and crossed his arms over his chest. She was relieved he wasn’t angry—his emotions always showed on his face—but he was definitely disturbed. And hurt.
“I think so,” She replied quietly. “At least for a while. If you’re okay with that.”
“What does it matter what I think?”
Mai glanced up at him. He wouldn’t meet her gaze.
“I tried to call you, you know,” He stared at a spot over her head. “Wrote to you. Just to make sure you were okay. But...”
“I know you did,” Her grip on the coffee mug tightened. “I just—I couldn’t face you.”
“Couldn’t face me?” His eyes widened. “What are you talking about? After all we’ve been through?”
“You nearly lost your soul because of me!” Mai’s eyes filled with tears. “Don’t you understand? I couldn’t—I just couldn’t bear seeing you again. I felt too guilty.”
“I don’t care about that!” Joey exclaimed and she wanted to punch him. Of course he didn’t care. That was just Joey. His life didn’t matter, his problems didn’t matter, he only cared about others. He didn’t have an ounce of selfishness in his heart. Not like her…
“Mai, I was worried about you,” He raked his hands through his hair. “We all were. You always had friends.”
“But—how I acted towards you—towards all of you—”
“Aw geez,” Joey rolled his eyes. “Do you know how many times each of us have been possessed by magical goons and evil whatchamacallits? We know you were under the influence of Orichalcos.”
“That wasn’t all,” Mai stood. “That just influenced what I was already feeling. Anger, resentment, jealousy, hurt—and after what Marik did to me, I just…I lost control. And I took it out on you and you nearly lost your life because of it. I can’t forgive myself for it.”
“Well, you better,” Joey said roughly. “Because I already have.”
She stared at him. When was it she first noticed him—really noticed him? She remembered being on the boat headed towards Duelist Kingdom, scoping out the competition. She noticed Yugi straightaway—with hair like that, he was hard to miss. He’d been talking with Joey about their disadvantage; only having one star chip apiece.
Yugi seemed embarrassed by her intimidating introduction and Joey ogled—both reactions she was used to. She was far more focused on defeating the champion who’d bested Kaiba.
She challenged Joey to a duel a few days later, in the interest of gaining star chips quickly and efficiently. Rooting out weaker opponents was always a quick way of getting ahead fast. And her little aroma strategy—a particular bit of psychological warfare—was something she was particularly proud of.
But it hadn’t phased Joey. Not really. He figured out her tricks, and in an amazing combination of her own foolhardy cockiness and his natural talent, he defeated her. She had been so furious. So certain it was beginner’s luck. She even accused Yugi of backseat dueling; claimed it was only because of him that Joey won. It was an unfair comment. Yugi had hardly helped, Mai just couldn’t admit to herself that she had lost fair and square. But it had deeply shaken Joey and he became even more determined to prove himself.
And prove himself he did. Not only did he make it to the finals, he actually…introduced her to real friends. Her abrasiveness and cutting remarks hadn’t scared them off. And even when Panik attacked and terrorized her…they stood up for her. She had clear memories of Joey struggling against Bakura and Tristan, furious at how Panik had shoved her to the ground. And then Yugi fought Panik for her and got her star chips back.
She had never had real friends before.
Joey noticed her staring at him. “What is it?”
“I was thinking…about when I first met you,” She replied honestly. “And Yugi and Tristan and Tea. And of course, Serenity…I was just thinking how I’d never had close friends before. I didn’t know…how to be friends.”
She snorted. “It sounds stupid but for a while there, I thought that my Harpie Ladies were my only friends.”
“Not stupid,” Joey glanced at his deck, which rested comfortably on the table. “Your monsters are a part of you. The best and the worst.”
Mai averted her gaze. “I’ve never deserved it.”
“You always deserved it,” He replied quietly. “You just didn’t believe you did.”
There was a long silence between them as Mai reflected on his words. She wiped her eyes briskly.
“Mai…” She looked up at him. His cheeks were red and now he was the one who couldn’t look her in the eye. “Why…why did you come here?”
She stood up abruptly and crossed her arms. She had traveled everywhere in the last few years…dueling on the Great Wall of China, besting the most elite duelists in the European Leagues, even some strange guerilla duels in the boroughs of New York that took place on motorcycles. But no matter where she went, no matter how she tried to distract herself, chasing every high and ever piece of redemption…she couldn’t escape it.
“I came back because I missed you.”
Her voice broke.
And suddenly, all at once, she was in Joey’s arms and he was holding her.
“I missed you too,” His voice sounded just as hoarse as hers. “I was worried sick about you, Mai. We all were but…God, I missed you.”
Violet eyes met hazel. Something settled in Mai’s stomach and her lips met his. There it was. That was what she’d been chasing and running away from, what haunted her every night she was away from him.
XXXX
Serenity wasn’t entirely sure what had just happened.
One minute, she’d been playing a novice game with a ten-year-old to pass the time on a rainy day, the next she was in Seto Kaiba’s office and he’d built her a deck. And he wanted to see her again—to show her how to duel?
Serenity’s brow furrowed and she tossed her hair over her shoulder. The rain had finally stopped and with the sunshine came her temper. Who did he think he was? He couldn’t just order her around like that. She didn’t need his silly cards. She could just ask Joey to teach her. He’d be happy to, and he’d do it without any of the arrogance or condescension she’d just experienced.
When she reached her apartment, she paused. Why did he want to teach her how to duel anyway? Was this some sort of sick way to torment Joey? She wouldn’t put it past him. But it seemed like an awful lot of trouble for a multi-millionaire running a huge gaming company. Well, she wasn’t going to let him put one over her brother. Certainly not.
She exhaled sharply and turned the key to her apartment. When she entered, Joey and Mai sprang apart like they’d been electrocuted.
“Oh hey,” Joey flushed. “Where ya been?”
Serenity suppressed a smile. If Mai’s tousled hair and Joey’s pink cheeks were any indication, she knew exactly what they’d been up to.
“I was—” She paused and found she couldn’t think of any reason not to tell her brother the truth. “I was at Kaibaland.”
Joey’s demeanor changed from awkwardly embarrassed to irritated. “Why?”
“They were having a novice day. I thought it might be fun to learn about Duel Monsters, considering my best friends are all world-ranked duelists.” She smiled at Mai engagingly, who winked at her in response.
“You don’t need to go there to learn,” Joey grumbled and handed Mai her jacket, which had slipped off. “You got two primo duelists right here. Speaking of—do you mind if Mai stays here a while?”
Serenity had figured this might be the case. “Of course not. I’ll…go make up the futon.”
She went to the linen closet knowing full well that Mai would not be using the futon.
XXXX
Joey had offered to teach her but it turned out, both he and Mai were busy for the rest of the week. Kaiba had kept his word and Joey was busy turning his newly purchased warehouse into the garage. Mai was in talks with several companies who were interested in sponsoring her—a beautiful, renowned duelist that looked good on a magazine cover could bring in a lot of revenue. When both of them weren’t working, they were often in deep talks that Serenity didn’t particularly want to interrupt. She could sense they were in the process of rebuilding a relationship and especially for Mai, it was going to take time. She still hadn’t forgiven herself.
So when Friday came, Serenity couldn’t help but think about the appointment.
She wasn’t going to go. She absolutely couldn’t. Joey would lose his mind if he knew Kaiba wanted to give her private lessons. He would immediately get the wrong idea—though truth be told, Serenity wasn’t sure what the right idea was exactly. Nevertheless, it wasn’t worth causing a fraternal explosion, especially since he was in the middle of working out his own relationship issues.
But 4:00 came and went. And Serenity started to feel antsy.
Her phone buzzed. It was a text from Joey, apologetically letting her know he’d be home late. He’d been trying to fix up Mai’s motorcycle; the throttle response was delayed, and it was taking longer than usual. He and Mai were going to go out to dinner after he got done.
So she’d be alone for the night. Joey and Mai probably wouldn’t get back till quite late—and even then, they probably wouldn’t want to talk much to her; Serenity now had experience with how flirty Mai got with Joey after a few glasses of wine. But that meant…if she wanted to go out herself, they wouldn’t know.
She didn’t have classes on Friday, so she’d been alone most of the day. She could heat up some leftover udon. Or she could go out. Just to get dinner.
At around six, she grabbed her jacket and her messenger bag and headed outside. She always liked autumn. And Domino City was such a nice place to have a walk before dinner. Not like the claustrophobic suburbs she’d grown up in. Classes had just started—she could treat herself and take the bus down to the beach; eat at one of the seafood shops. But then again, she was rather craving dumplings, and there was a place that made really amazing dumplings…it was about a block away from Kaibaland.
She checked her watch. 6:10PM. Kaiba was expecting her in twenty minutes. Her lips pursed. She hadn’t even agreed to Duel Monsters lessons! He’d just ordered her like he did his underlings. That rankled her.
But she couldn’t seem to suppress her curiosity. What exactly was he going to teach her?
Dumplings or Kaiba?
It was a tossup.
Fifteen minutes later, she was standing in front of Kaibaland, eyeing the magnificent Blue Eyes White Dragon statue that flanked the entrance. She slowly chewed her dumpling (she’d hoped that perhaps ordering her dinner to go would cause her to miss 6:30PM and therefore take away the indecision, but the cooks had handed her dozen dumplings in record time) and debated on whether or not to enter.
“Serenity! You made it!”
The doors opened and Mokuba Kaiba stood out front grinning at her. She waved awkwardly.
“Right on time too!” Mokuba beamed. “I wasn’t sure if you’d come.”
“Neither was I,” Serenity admitted. “Mokuba—I hope you don’t mind me asking, but why does he want to teach me?”
“I have no idea,” Mokuba said cheerfully, gesturing for her to come inside, “and trust me, I’ve asked. Maybe he senses talent. He’s always talked about creating a school for dueling. Maybe you’re test subject number one.”
“How flattering,” Serenity said dryly. The younger Kaiba escorted her to the elevator and they stepped inside. Mokuba pressed the top floor button and hummed a little as the doors shut.
Mokuba eyed her. “Are you nervous?”
She considered the question. Nervous wasn’t quite the feeling—perhaps wary or cautious. At any rate, she harnessed the famed Wheeler bravado and crossed her arms.
“He doesn’t scare me,” She said shortly and Mokuba smiled to himself.
The elevator doors opened and for the second time that week, Serenity was led into Seto Kaiba’s office.
He was sitting at his desk, typing on his computer when they entered. He glanced at the clock pointedly.
“You’re late.” Serenity opened her mouth to snap back at him but Mokuba undercut her.
“It’s not her fault, Seto. She was here on time. I was talking to her in the lobby; that’s why she’s late.”
This was more or less true, but Serenity did not need Mokuba to offer up an excuse. “I wasn’t even sure if I should come. I wasn’t sure if you were joking or—”
“Seto never jokes about Duel Monsters,” Mokuba said solemnly. The wicked glint in his eye suggested that his older brother never joked about anything, but he refrained from adding the comment.
“I suppose I’m a little confused,” Serenity crossed her arms. “Why do you want to teach me?”
Kaiba stood. “You are excellent at chess. Anyone who is that good should be playing Duel Monsters. It requires the same level of precision and strategy.”
He walked around his desk and stopped short. His eyes scanned her appearance and she stared back at him solidly.
“I reviewed your last duel.”
She stared at him in confusion. “What duel?”
“Against Nezbitt a few years ago. With Devlin and the other. It took a little doing, but my computers kept records of the entire match.” His blue eyes bored into hers and Serenity flushed. That duel was not her finest hour.
“That was my first duel,” She said defensively. “I wasn’t used to your technology—and seeing what happened to Tristan—”
“I know,” He retorted. “It didn’t help that you picked the cards you found ‘cute’.”
“I was fifteen! Maybe if you’d ever talked to a girl—”
Mokuba cleared his throat. “Seto, why don’t you tell her what you told me just a little while ago?”
Serenity and Kaiba looked towards Mokuba with varying levels of irritation. But Kaiba begrudgingly spoke.
“Not all of it was your fault. The other one—who was so bent on throwing the game in order to shield you—was more to blame. You can’t learn to play properly if someone is obsessively keeping you from the match. Your strategy with St. Joan was brilliant.”
She wasn’t sure how to respond. Kaiba’s assessment of the duel was possibly unfair to Tristan; he knew that Serenity was inexperienced and had been trying to protect her. After all, this duel had much dire consequences. But perhaps if she’d been given the chance to strategize…once she’d gotten the hang of defense/attack position, she hadn’t done too badly…
“Did you review your deck?” Kaiba’s question startled her out of her memories.
“Yes. I’m a little confused—there are a lot of dark and light types along with fiends and fairies. I thought those don’t go well together.”
“You’d be surprised.” A strange expression came over him. “I’ll show you. Let’s duel.”
Serenity raised her arms. “Hang on. I want to lay some ground rules here. For instance—I don’t want to use your crazy holographic machines. If I’m going to learn, I’m going to learn the same way I learned chess—at a table, sitting across from you like reasonable people.”
Kaiba pursed his lips. He clearly didn’t like the stipulation but she didn’t care. The holographic monsters made her nervous and whatever rush it gave her brother and Kaiba—well, she wasn’t ready for it. She would learn in a low pressure environment or not at all.
“Secondly…” She looked towards the floor. “I don’t want anyone to know about this.”
There was a silence at the pronouncement but Kaiba didn’t argue. She was glad for it. She knew he didn’t give two figs about her brother, but, well…Joey wouldn’t understand.
“Will you tell Joey eventually?” Mokuba asked. “If things progress?”
She frowned. “Progress?”
The younger Kaiba smiled artlessly. “You know. If you…get really good. And start wanting to compete.”
Serenity let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding. “Oh. Well. I don’t know. I’ll have to think about it.”
Mokuba grinned. “What did you think I meant?”
“That’s enough, Mokuba,” Kaiba said tartly. “Take a seat, little Wheeler. Let’s begin.”

Let´s talk about Silentshipping
Silentshipping is a shipping from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Fandom and describes the pair Seto Kaiba x Serenity Wheeler/Shizuka Kawaii. It is one of my favorite shippings, then and now. So I was rely pissed when I went looking for stuff about the couple and found People hateing around. ~*~
Serenity is too weak and too stupid to duel: Yes. Tea and Mai make a much stronger impression and are better equipped to duel. But if you look closely at the scenes, you can clearly see that Serenity is still a beginner. Insinuating that she's too stupid to duel when she's just learning the game... And yes. She's not particularly strong. But does she have to be that way to get together with Kaiba? And does she have to be good at dueling to have a relationship with Kaiba? However, she saved her brother from drowning and ultimately won the three-way duel against Nezbitt. So she's not just weak. Seto and Serenity only have one interaction in the anime and none in the manga: Yes. They only had one interaction together, where they actually talked to each other. But I prioritize quality over quantity. if we set this convo in contrast with the most popular shipping in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Fandom, Puppyshipping Seto x Joey, they acted respectfully to each other. He didn't devalue her, wasn't annoyed by her, nor did he react to her negatively in any way. Seto and Serenity fulfill the cliché of a sweet innocent girl that melts the cold bad boy's heart aka SasuHina vibes: I think it's funny. That most people celebrate ships like Seto X Joey, which for me is the most toxic ship ever, and badmouth Seto x Serenity, because it´s to clicheé. lol Do you know which yaoi ships are always the most popular in every fandom? The hot-blooded, temperamental, goofy guy with the cold-blooded, calculating, emotionally dead guy. Basically, half of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Fandom ships the biggest cliché of all. But there is a heteroshipping that is at least as SasuHina-cliche and is also one of the most popular ships with Seto. Bluesshipping Seto x Kisara. Kisara is just as weak as Serenity, but just like her, she has her strong moments. She's just as shy, reserved and sweet as Serenity and fulfills the chichee spirit just as much. Kisara shows that a relationship between Seto and Serenity can definitely work. ~*~ Serenity is pink and sweet, which very few people like. And I won't deny that their relationship fulfills that good girl x bad boy chlichee. You can like it or not. But the ship is not alone on this track. For a beginner, Serenity did well and she may be weak, but she definitely showed strength as well. It may have been just one interaction, but it didn't have a negative impact on their relationship. It looked more like Kaiba had only called the medical team, because of Serenity's request. Which has a positive effect on their relationship. In any case, I don't understand the hate that this shipping has, because for me there are much worse pairings.

G, L, Y, U for the asks!
Thanks!
G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it?
Lol, boy, and how! I live and breathe otp’s. My very first otp was probably Seto Kaiba x Serenity Wheeler, from YuGiOh. They were the first fanfic I ever read on fanfiction.net, lol. First otp ship I ever contributed to fandom for was Sesshomaru x Kagome from Inuyasha, where I wrote my very first fics and did fanart.
Though if we want to get really cheeky, I could argue that my very first ship was the knife and the spoon, from cutlery and making them kiss as a tiny kiddo, lol.
L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.)
Hmmm, this is weirdly tough for me, not the complimenting part, but because I have a weird metric of how I view characters. Hm, let’s go with… Mizora. I’m overall neutral on her but I appreciate her petty bitch energy. If I were a cambion, I’d like to be as ambitious as Raphael but in reality I’d be like Mizora and I do appreciate a good petty play. It’s the Gemini in me, lol.
U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.
I have many favorites but I’ll go with Harley Quinn from Batman, Grunkle Stan from Gravity Falls, and since brainrot be real, Raphael from BG3.
Harley Quinn has been a favorite character of mine since I was a kid watching Batman the Animated Series. I’ve always been a fan of theatrical aesthetics (circus, theatre, commedia dell’arte, etc) and she’s just such a fun character. I’ve really liked over the years how she’s waffled between villain and anti-hero and how she’s not a perfect victim. Also Harley Quinn x Poison Ivy is a top tier ship.
Grunkle Stan because one of my biggest weaknesses in fiction is a sad morally grey older man but who is also protective of his family. He’s fucked up in his life so many times but he keeps trying. I’m a sucker for that. But also he’s just a great character. He’s made me laugh and cry and honestly that’s just a good criteria for any character. I’ve 100% played the fanmade Grunkle dating simulator and no regrets or shame.
And speaking of morally grey, or in this case, completely terrible older men. Raphael, my beloved. I played BG3 in its EA days and the very first time he appeared I was smitten. His voice obviously but also he had my favorite introduction into the game (and still does). The fact that his devil transformation involved a snazzy belt and different shoes is what really sold him to me. He’s so stupidly extra and it calls to my theatre kid nature, lol. I do miss the EA days of him roasting our camp 5 sec after inviting himself.
All that being said, I just enjoy his character within the game too. I like that he’s obviously a villain but he’s chill with us. In part because he wants something from us but I like that it kinda transforms for him into a double obsession. Obviously, crown comes first but there’s something just so delightfully fun about him writing about our character in his journal (entry number 2 is the stuff ships are made of). That he’s a cringefail theatre kid with daddy issues while being thousands of years old is partly what makes him endearing. I loved finding his fanfiction in his house and I love how stupidly bad his hell domination plan is (you’re doing amazing sweetie).
And one other bonus to liking his character is I got to make new friends and moots in particular in his corner of the fandom. 💖
Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?
Hm, I’d say currently, Helluva Boss, I’ve got a couple friends into that show. It’s certainly on my list of things to eventually sit down and watch but for now I see it through what my friends show me. Looks good though!

Note
for the character thing, mokuba?
Ahhh thank you!
character: hate them | don’t really care | like them | LOVE them | THEY ARE MY PRECIOUS
ship with:  Uhhh. No one tbh? At least no one that appeared so far (lol as if the show continues) bc how many characters around his age are there? Closest are Rebecca and Serenity which no. But also, I’m sure he’s gay so he’ll find a cute boyfriend eventually
friendship them with:  the nerd herd, probably a few kids from school (does he go to school?). Every younger child he ever met including Isono’s/Roland’s (future) children.
general opinions: He’s a little gremlin and super smart, like Seto but less tortured through classes he didn’t want to take and more social which leaves him happier and capable in other ways. May include how to puppy-eye his way into anything. But I love him and I want him to be happy. He is my son! I personally gave birth to him.

Puppyshipping gets better in the manga
I don't mind the anime trying to involve Serenity more than the manga did, but I think they changed a really significant scene in the process:
After the duel between Yugi and Joey (controlled by Marik) Serenity is portrayed removing her eye bandages and jumping into the water to save her brother. In the manga Serenity/Mai/etc are not there yet, and it's Kaiba the one who saves Joey. He simply throws the key into the water, and after Joey rises to the surface Seto states that he was just caring about the duel disk.
I think this is a huge step in Kaiba's attitude towards Joey. Like “it is not that we're friends now because I'm still Kaiba, but after this duel I kinda respect you so I'm not letting you die just now.”
