Embarking on the Sacred Journey: Exploring the Depths of Ashtanga Yoga for Union with the Infinite
Photo by Stefan Stefancik on Pexels.com Introduction: Though it is sometimes misinterpreted as being limited to a set of physical postures or breathing techniques, Ashtanga yoga is much more than that. Based on the age-old knowledge discovered in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Ashtanga Yoga outlines a deep philosophical framework designed to promote oneness with the boundless field of existence.…

Note
do you think tamsyn is intentionally drawing a connection between the Buddhist eightfold path and the eightfold word?
the eightfold path is supposed to lead to liberation from the cycle of rebirth (I’m drawing a parallel to lyctoral immortality) and the last element is right samadhi which is often described as “meditative absorption or union” (a parallel to the consumption of the cavalier and absorption of the soul)
idk just food for thought i’ve been mulling over
I've been pondering this for a while myself. I've never heard the word "eightfold" used in any other context. Like, it could very much be a coincidence because #-fold is a Portentous Word Form, and eight Houses contributed to the theorum, but let's assume for now there is a connection.
I would say it's less of a parallel and more of a reflection. This framing of the Eightfold Word would make it kind of a warped mirror of the Eightfold Path.
Following the Eightfold Path delivers you from samsara, right? The ultimate purpose is to break the cycle of reincarnation that binds a person to the worlds of mundane suffering. That last element, right samadhi, it's about the illusion of existence being transcended in meditation to see the true nature of being. The Path leads to understanding of the self as transient—an illusion created by a much larger whole. Or something like that. I'm not a priest or bodhisattva, or even a scholar dedicated to understanding these things.
Speaking the Eightfold Word is entirely the opposite. The lyctors have subsumed the other into the self, making the self the center of their being. They haven't been freed from the cycle so much as they've jammed the wheel, leaving themselves trapped in the suffering of their existence for, theoretically, eternity.
I don't know if it's an intentional reference or not, but I do enjoy considering the implications of lyctorhood from that perspective. John and the lyctors have become so consumed by their obsession with the self and ensuring its continuance, it's broken all the bonds that would make them part of a larger whole in this life and left them each alone together in their own private hells. Speaking the Eightfold Word means that they'll never reach the other shore.

my kuan yin tea comes with cancer warnings now
daily reminders of how toxic these worlds are
without escape, and recently there have been
looking back onwards to recognize and acknowledge that
where we come from isn't where we are going at all
nor is it a viable vehicle to anywhere but ghosts and hells,
pure lands are more relatable but wouldn't have to be Amida's really
maybe I just feel unprepared and want to go back now,
material bodies store traumas too well but less so worthwhile light
and I get to wondering if enough people die of cancer does
it qualify as a mass enlightenment? I'm skeptical and
hope is a worthless thing;
there is work to do, and people confuse work with enslavement too often
we can see where your realms of experience are
people speak of love as though it's samadhi
but we can see what is being made union with too
copy copy follow
secular buddhism wasn't really a thing until recently
an emergence, and we see from what
and where
you can just be who you are but
there's a lot to be cleared away before you get there
likely not in this lifetime

A state of NO DESIRE looks like this. It isn't a dystopian dream. It is the truth of one. One is already that. Thou art that. Tat Twam Asi. It is one where there is no seeking. All seeking comes to an end.
How do we know what it's like being without desire?
It is when one is in Union. This is the union everyone is running after. This has nothing to do with religion, spirituality or any other such labels.
Ego feels separate. Separation is a perceived threat to the ego. Ego fears death because it feels it is separate and hence it's existence depends upon guarding the identity of the separate self. All of this is love ofcourse. Ignorant? Yes, but still love, behind the workings of it all.
So then what does the soul long for?
The soul longs for a state where it can stop longing. Where the ego is put to rest, and the illusion is pierced. It occurs very briefly each time a desire is fulfilled. An orgasm is achieved. A thoughtless, delightful sigh of relief- Ah 😌 How blissful. If only this could be the default state forever. That would be Samadhi. The Kundalini mother energy rising from the root wants to meet the Father as he descends from the Crown. That is the internal physical union. A pineal gland fully activated that is producing substance in the brain that sustains the feeling of oneness and universal love continuously.
Should it be artificially, egotistically invoked and meddled with? Ofcourse not. It could short circuit. But this is just one part of the process. This went all over the place. Although it's all the same place.
Tap into it.
Practice.
Override thought attacks.
Practice.

The Quest for Buddhism (80)
Noble Eightfold Path - 8 practices to free oneself from painful reincarnation leads to nirvana
In the Pali Canon's Bhavananuyutta sutta ("Mental Development Discourse", Anguttara Nikaya 7.67), the Buddha is recorded as saying (See image above).
The Buddhist path to liberation consists the Thirty Seven Factors of Enlightenment (Pali, sattatimsa bodhipakkhiya dhamma Ref). The most classical one is the Noble Eightfold Path, described in the Sutta Pitaka.
The Noble Eightfold Path is an early summary of the path of Buddhist practices leading to liberation from samsara, the painful cycle of rebirth, in the form of nirvana.
The Noble Eightfold Path was preached by the Buddha in his first Dharma teaching (Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta: Ref2). It is considered to be Marga (Pali: Magga, Ref4) among the Four Noble Truths (Ref3), and is also considered to be the specific content of the Middle Way.
The Eightfold Path consists of eight practices: 1) right view, 2) right resolve, 3) right speech, 4) right conduct, 5) right livelihood, 6) right effort, 7) right mindfulness, and 8) right samadhi ('meditative absorption or union'; alternatively, equanimous meditative awareness).
In early Buddhism, these practices started with understanding that the body-mind works in a corrupted way (right view), followed by entering the Buddhist path of self-observance, self-restraint, and cultivating kindness and compassion; and culminating in dhyana or samadhi, which reinforces these practices for the development of the body-mind.

Organized - A Poem
by Happy Now Olivia!
Organized
It’s easy for Satan and His Organized Billionaires of Depravity to acquire armies of ignorant men and hordes of evil men, but it’s very hard for God to amass His Battalions of Noble Souls for few are ever willing to labor for the real fruit of Divine Union.
Satan thrives in the filth of filthy minds and in the taint of tainted hearts. While the soul asphyxiates in the hypoxic environment of wanton Godlessness.
And Satan has his pick of egotist fools, for man in his self-righteous arrogance thinks nothing of wallowing in the sewers of lust, thinking he will not catch The Karmic Diseases of Sexual Degradation and the invariable plague-punishments that come from breaking The Basic Moral Laws of The Divine Cosmos,
for Creation is Divine, and it has but one purpose—your return to God-Consciousness, for however long you choose to waste away in delusion, disease, death (and perpetual sorrow).
But first, you must prove mastery of quite a slew of divine qualities including, and in no particular order of importance (for all must be mastered to get even an immortal whiff of The Fragrance of Divinity): loyalty, steadfastness, fearlessness, self-discipline, humility, and among the many rest—purity.
The Kingdom of God does not come to bible thumpers and Churchianity Robots, much less to unthinking doctrine zombies of any man-degraded religion,
it comes to The Extraordinary Devotees who have made themselves extraordinary in their unconditional love for God, and the immaculate purity of their consciousness by their daily effort to commune with God in real meditation, and by their committed effort to live as a child of God in every breath, in every minute of every hour.
It’s true that it will be a cold day in karmic hell before The Wicked ever see God, but it’s also true that Mediocre Believers never see God either.
Going to “church,” or belonging to a “congregation,” or believing two thousand years of soul-repulsive papal indoctrination doesn’t make anyone a Christ-ian,
real communion with God as His Christ-Consciousness immanent and omnipresent in all creation makes a Christ-ian and a Christ out of anyone willing to work and “die daily” for conscious, immortal perception of The Most High.
Spare me your sex-degraded, dogma-dysentery, your total lack of scriptural inner-intuitive direct-understanding, and your loud ego-bloated un-Realized opinions, for I promise you I did not come here to listen to, much less coddle ignorant brat-believers.
Learn To Be Still (in wholly scientific meditation) and know you’re a child of God, and learn to behave and act like a Christ (every night and day) ‘cause I also promise you that in this desolate and self-centered nightmare of earthly mortal existence, no one but God and His Self-Made Sages & Saints actually cares for the suffering of your heart and “the salvation of your soul.”
But the first requirement for “eternal salvation,” or “transcendental ascension,” or “blissful nirvana,” or the highest samadhi is that you care,
care enough for your own redemption (and happiness) to give God a sincere and agonizing soul-call, for which the holy answer is a True Teaching from a True God-Sent Avatar, which for This Godless Dark Age are The Holy Teachings of The Royal Science of Divine Union by The Lord Paramahansa Yogananda as purely-preserved and given through His only official channels, Self-Realization Fellowship and Yogoda Satanga Society of India—and of course, directly by Him in omnipresence to the devoted and soul-attuned devotee willing to take His discipline and able to feel His love and guidance.
The guidance of a True Guru who is one with God transcends space and time, and all the limitations of material creation, meaning that a True Guru will guide the devotee towards liberation for as many lifetimes as it takes.
Fake devotees are led to fake teachings, shallow devotees are led to shallow religions, cultish followers of men are led to cults, half-hearted devotees are led to mediocre ritual-driven practices, only true devotees are led to God by God. That’s The Law. The Straight & Narrow Way is not for Clockwork Churchgoers, Scriptural Parrots, or Religious Intellectuals—it’s for Real Lovers of God.
God said through Hosea, “Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.” He did not say, “Evil will go unchecked and be allowed to proliferate with impunity…My Greatest Immaculate Warrior Saints are retired from active duty…ooops, sorry.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF SHAMATHA
In his teachings as recorded in the Pali canon, the Buddha asserts that without samadhi it is impossible to gain realization, and he more specifically declares that freedom from the five hindrances (the primary purpose and benefit of achieving dhyana) is a necessary condition for gaining stream-entry, the point at which one first achieves the nonconceptual union of shamatha and vipashyana in the realization of nirvana. The eighth -century Mahayana Buddhist adept Shantideva likewise wrote, "Recognizing that one who is well endowed with vipashyana together with shamatha eradicates mental afflictions, one should first seek shamatha."
In Zen practice, it is clear that even without having fully achieved shamatha, one may experience kensho, a transitory realization of one's Buddha-nature. But to achieve satori, the irreversible enlightenment of the Buddha, one's initial realization must be supported by a high degree of mental stability. This is why mindfulness of breathing is commonly practiced in the Zen tradition, to stabilize the mind so that the experience of "sudden awakening" doesn't vanish as suddenly as it arose. How many of us have experienced extraordinary breakthroughs in our meditative practice, only to find them rapidly fade away, leaving behind only a nostalgic memory? Since the Japanese word Zen derives from the Chinese chan, which in turn derives from the Sanskrit word dhyana, it would be odd for the achievement of dhyana to be overlooked in these Eastern schools of Buddhism.
In the practice of Dzogchen, the Great Perfection school of Tibetan Buddhism, shamatha is no less important.
According to the "Natural Liberation," attributed to Padmasambhava, "Without genuine shamatha arising in one's mindstream, even if rigpa [pristine awareness] is pointed out, it becomes nothing more than an object of intellectual understanding; one is left simply giving lip service to the view, and there is the danger that one may succumb to dogmatism. Thus, the root of all meditative states depends upon this, so do not be introduced to riga too soon, but practice until there occurs a fine experience of stability."

TANTRIC YOGA
Tantra is a spiritual method or yoga that takes into account both "inner" and "outer” 29 realities. Derived from the root words "to expand," "weave," or "'extend consciousness," tantra implies a continuity beyond the physical plane. Tantric teachings evolved in India and eventually spread to Nepal, Tibet, China, Japan, Thailand, and Indonesia.
These teachings are said to be particularly relevant in this time of materialism and narcissism since all human activities can be used as tools in the tantric path toward liberation, Tantras are texts that outline specific practices. These practices are a meditational system that aims at the experience of the highest bliss in physical and spiritual relations by cultivating the totality of one's erotic potential.
Ancient scriptures containing the mystical teachings and ritual instructions of Tantraism are called tantras. Briefly, they teach that earthly delights stem from the union of opposites and are achieved with an ideal partner. Such a union is said to exemplify the harmony of creation and be a step toward perfection (i.e., union with God). The power of love thus becomes central to the whole of existence.
Kama, or desire, is a creative principle that aims at the perfection of life on earth, just as the divine love that Krishna bore the shepherd girl Radha represented the cosmic energies of creation in action on earth. Among the tantric aids to meditation are mantras, sacred sounds that may be visualized as yantras, and mandalas, symbols of psychic wholeness. Various meditations for the awakening of kundalini have been given under Ritual Use with each herb (i.e., fo-ti-tieng, iboga, kava kava, sweet flag, and others).
The first action required by the tantric yoga is the "cleansing" ' of the nadis, the more highly developed nerve ganglia points in the body. These points have also been associated with chakras but are really considered "tubes" connecting the various chakra points. This purification is carried out by means of special postures of the body (asanas) and by breathing exercises (pranayama).
The mind is habituated to concentrate itself upon a point or an object, real or imaginary, so as to accustom itself to remain calm and to take absolutely "the form" which the will of the yogi wishes to impose upon it. This mental process is concentration (dharana). When the mind can identify itself with the divine presence in every human being, a state called samadhi has been reached.
Kundalini is a Sanscrit word for the normally latent psycho-sexual power that, when awakened, ascends through the central channel of the subtle body. The root word "kunda" means a pool or reservoir of energy. Kundalini is likened to a coiled snake, ready to strike at any moment. When this energy is correctly directed, it can bring about cosmic consciousness and liberation.

"Diseases." From the Yoga Chudamani Upanishad, the Exploration of the Mysteries of the Jewel in the Crest.
youtube
[Slokas 111-112 are not available.]
113. After seeing the Param Jyothi which is spread everywhere, in Samadhi duties and action neither come nor goes.
 [Slokas 114-115 are not available.]
116. If we stand together with Pranayama, all diseases would be destroyed. All diseases appear only to those who are not able to do Pranayama.
The final product of the union between the union of the self and the Self is to be absorbed by God’s Grace the sake of those who are suffering. The Upanishads say that after one finds the Self all concepts of action and duty go away and one acts according to the whims of a Sattva, a Saint without any trouble at all. This is indeed the case.
One who is motivated by greed has no concept of such a thing will do work but  never find the Self, never be of use to society, and thus will never know or be known by God.

Unveiling the Mysteries: The Origin of Yoga and Its Ancient History
Tumblr media
Yoga, with its serene poses and meditative practices, has captivated the hearts and minds of millions worldwide. Yet, its origins remain shrouded in the mists of time, weaving a tapestry of ancient wisdom and spiritual evolution. Delving into the depths of history, we embark on a journey to unravel the enigma of yoga's beginnings, tracing its roots through the annals of civilization.
Understanding the Ancient History of Yoga:
To comprehend the origin of yoga, we must delve into the rich tapestry of ancient civilizations that laid the groundwork for its emergence. The story of yoga begins in the cradle of civilization, amidst the ancient Indus Valley, where archaeological excavations unearthed seals depicting figures in yogic postures dating back to 3000 BCE.
The Vedic Period:
The earliest references to yoga can be found in the sacred texts of the Vedas, the oldest scriptures of Hinduism, dating back to around 1500 BCE. Within these hymns and philosophical treatises, the concept of yoga emerges as a spiritual discipline aimed at achieving union with the divine. It is during this period that the foundational principles of yoga, such as breath control (pranayama) and meditation (dhyana), began to take shape.
The Upanishads and the Birth of Classical Yoga:
As the Vedic period gave way to the Upanishadic age (800–200 BCE), yoga underwent a transformation, evolving from a ritualistic practice to a more introspective and philosophical pursuit. The Upanishads, a collection of mystical texts expounding the nature of reality and the self, introduced the concept of Atman (the individual soul) and Brahman (the universal consciousness), laying the groundwork for the philosophical underpinnings of yoga.
The Bhagavad Gita:
One of the most revered texts in Hindu philosophy, the Bhagavad Gita, serves as a pivotal treatise on the practice of yoga. Set against the backdrop of the Mahabharata war, this timeless epic imparts the teachings of Lord Krishna to the warrior prince Arjuna, elucidating the paths of devotion (bhakti), knowledge (jnana), and action (karma) yoga. It is here that the concept of yoga as a path to self-realization and liberation is firmly established.
The Classical Period of Yoga:
The classical period of yoga, spanning from around 500 BCE to 800 CE, witnessed the crystallization of yogic thought and practice in the form of systematic treatises known as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Compiled by the sage Patanjali, this seminal text outlines the eightfold path of yoga (Ashtanga Yoga), comprising ethical precepts (yamas and niyamas), physical postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), sense withdrawal (pratyahara), concentration (dharana), meditation (dhyana), and ultimately, union with the divine (samadhi).
Yoga in the Post-Classical Era:
Following the classical period, yoga underwent further evolution and diversification as it spread beyond the borders of India and encountered diverse cultural influences. During the post-classical era (800–1700 CE), yoga branched into various schools and traditions, including Hatha Yoga, Tantra Yoga, and Kundalini Yoga, each emphasizing different techniques and practices for spiritual awakening and self-transformation.
youtube
The Modern Revival of Yoga:
In the 19th and 20th centuries, yoga experienced a resurgence as Indian sages and scholars sought to preserve and disseminate this ancient wisdom to a global audience. Pioneers such as Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo, and Paramahansa Yogananda played instrumental roles in popularizing yoga in the West, sparking a wave of interest and enthusiasm for this age-old tradition.
Conclusion:
The origin of yoga is a tale woven from the fabric of ancient civilizations, tracing its roots through the annals of history to the sacred texts and philosophical teachings of antiquity. From its humble beginnings in the Indus Valley to its profound philosophical insights in the Vedas and Upanishads, yoga has evolved into a timeless path of self-discovery and spiritual liberation. As we honor the legacy of yoga's past, let us embark on our own journey of self-exploration, guided by the light of this ancient wisdom, towards a more harmonious and enlightened existence.
