I've heard them all now. All the CDs. I. What the fuck.
Small scream here. I will give some more comprehensive thoughts in a moment.
NONE OF THOSE PEOPLE ARE COUNSELLORS OR THERAPISTS!!! THEY'RE FUCKING INTERROGATORS UNDER THE DISGUISE OF A THERAPIST!!!
AND COUNSELLORS AND THERAPISTS ARE DIFFERENT THINGS FUCK WHOEVER WROTE THESE CD LINES SPECIFICALLY
If you can't tell I'm annoyed. Again. By FNaF stuff. No therapist is looking at encrypted messages given to them by a company to record a session and snap a confession. Counsellors aren't doing that either. Even obtaining those logs is probably several layers of illegal never mind using it in a so called therapy session being horrific malpractice.
AND WHY ARE THEY ALL FUCKING IDIOTS???
Interrogator: So... you're looking for a costume and have been buying fake fur and materials. What are you making? Vanessa: I can't talk about this. He said he'd always be here watching. He could here or out there or anywhere in between... Interrogator like. Thirty seconds later: SO WHAT'S THE COSTUME FOR??
OH GEE I WONDER IF SHE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT THE COSTUME HUH WOWIE I BET SHE WILL THIS IS A FUN CRAFT PROJECT HAHAHAA
Interrogator: These messages you're getting seem very manipulative... Vanessa: I get messages from Luis. He's funny Interrogator: WhY wOnT yOu OpEn Up AbOuT wHo YoU'rE tAlKiNg ToO nEsSa??
OOO I FUCKIN' WONDER!! BIG MYSTERY OVER HERE!!!
And then ones with the silence like. Literally this is an interrogation. All of these are company interrogations. None of these are therapy or counselling. No wonder they're dropping off like flies man if you're gonna be that fucking obvious to the one common link between all the disappearances like ooo big mystery gonna need to dial Sherlock on this one
I fucking. Head in hands.
More comprehensive thoughts coming soon. Just. What the fuck is this man...

Request granted, tell me everything you have time to tell me about
Ok!!!! So the one thats been on my mind lately thars not exchanged, is a lab/scientist au.
Naven Nuknuk is the lead scientist and he uses his speech therapy program to trick Molly, Feenie and Trixie into becoming his test dummies. Hes successful and mashes the girls into a horrifying amalgamation; like this!
Tumblr media
Yoomtah and Zora are his assistance, with Yoomtah being very NOT okay with what he's doing. Zoras indifferent cuz shes getting paid (in this au the events of the Museam arc didnt happen)
Lorelai (who actually cares about her sister in this au!!! WHAT?!?! OMG ITS UNHEARD OF!!!) starts getting the feeling somethings wrong and takes matters into her own hands, searching for the three girls until finding Giovanni (in this au theyre friends) and shes like "yo gio help me out" and hes like "bet, trix is my cousin don't want her getting hurt at all"
Then they go to thw police n are all "yo help us out" and theyre like "mehhh" cuz they dont think theyre serious (Yoomtah has been sending Lorelai clues and tidbits about where they are) but Percy takes it seriously n is like "ok bet gotchu" n sends a search party
Meanwhile Naven is testing on the poor girls and keeps em in a room with Rick (whos his test tube baby and essentially a human fish with sentience)
After a lot of gaps in plot; this happens:
Lorelai runs up to the door, banging on its metalic surface hard enough to injure herself. She pulls it back, shaking it aggressively,
"You okay???" Giovanni asks, peering over her shoulder in order to get a better look at her hand
"No!" Lorelai replies with the obvious, sucking her teeth in. "The doors bolted shut!"
She takes out her phone, pulling up the number that 'The Zinger' had been texting her with, scrambling to type with one hand
LORELAI:We r here ope door
LORELAI:*were
LORELAI:*open
LORELAI:Sort wridt hurts tryib to type wigh one hand
THE ZINGER: LMFAOOO did u try punching the door??
LORELAI: do n luagh at m
The Zinger sends a gif of a smug looking cat
THE ZINGER: Dokayyyyyyy
THE ZINGER: Sadly, naynay kept the outside door non elecy, so ur gonna hafta figure that out urself 😗😗✌️✌️
"Shit!" Lorelai half screamed
"What?" Giovanni asks
"The doors not electrical! Woulda been nice to know that EARLIER, Zinger!"
"Awh come on!"
Giovanni takes out his CRUEL CRIME CROWBAR, walking up to the door. He sets one foot in it, hooking the crowbar beneath the doors handles. Once hes locked it, he yanks it until the door loosens.
"Good thing I had this!" He says, giving the door a light kick as pay back for giving them trouble. He gestures for Lorelai to follow him inside, and they enter in together to see..
Naven..
He turns to face them, with a phone in his hands. Yoomtahs.
"My my my, how persistant the two of you are!" He sets the phone on the table, setting his hands firmly behind his back as he inches closer. "Its almost..."
He stops when he's face to face with Lorelai, creaking open his eyes. The smile on his face laced with hatred and mal-intent.
"Infuritating..."
He lifts his lanky body back from her gaze, his eyes falling closed. He turns away from them
"I'm afraid youre too late, however"
"Woah wah woah woah woah what- what do you mean??" Giovanni asks, his shoulders tensing. Naven lets out a small chuckle in response,
"Would you care to see?"
He begins to walk off, drawing in the uneasy curiosiry of Lorelai and Giovanni.
They stop outside of a room, which Naven opens with the keycard. Giovanni and Lorelai hear strained, pained moans from inside. Naven enters the room, the other two scuttling behind him like scared crabs. Theyre brought to a stop at what they see, a large mushed glue monster of what was once was a person. The faces of Molly, Feenie and Trixie sticking out, all wailing painfully.
Lorelai covers her mouth, eyes wider than saucers. Giovanni can barely speak, even though his mouth was opens.
Navens stands in front of the abomination.
"This is what I had been up to all this time, Isn't she beautiful?"
Lorelais shock morphed into rage, hands forming into fists. "What. Did you do?!"
"Something glorious..." he extends his arms, his pink eyes shooting open for the first time. His smile unhinged and manic, pupils the size of grapes. "ARENT YOU PROUD OF WHAT I'VE DONE?! ARENT YOU PROUD OF MY WORK! LOOK AT HER! GAZE INTO HER MANY EYES AND REVEL AT MY OWN CREATION!"
...
I may or may not have been inspo'd by ur pfp

What's your biggest regret? 😈
It’s probably depressingly sad, and maybe not want anyone wants to read. Trigger warning ahead. Talking about my dads recent death.
But, currently my biggest regret is not answering my dads phone call the day before he unexpectedly died. I was having a bad day, and was taking a nap. I remember the call waking me up, and I remember thinking “I’m just not in the mood to talk. He’ll understand. I’ll call him tomorrow when I’m not in such a bad mood.”
And it was Father’s Day weekend mind you.
The next day, I went to work at 6 am, and me and my bf had made movie reservations prior anyway right after my work so I thought, “well, by the time I actually get home, I’ll be tired from work and the movie and trying to eat dinner. So, I’ll call him the next day so it’s not so late.” We usually talked at least once a week. But the last time we did talk on the phone, he was asking if I could talk him through how to download Steam onto his laptop so he could play a couple war games that he enjoyed. I told him of course, and when he had some time we’ll get it figured it out and I’ll send him pics and videos if needed. (We live 14 hours away from each other, he lived with my sister. So..at least he wasn’t ever alone.) But…his final words to me were “hey, you should be calling me more often. I know you’re busy, but I hope you can make some time.” And I said “yeah..I know. I’m sorry, my days just blend together sometimes.” He said he understands, just misses me and wants us to talk more.
So…I get home at the end of the day, tired from work and the movie, and, just finishing eating dinner. My sister called me and I didn’t answer cause I was finishing up my food, but she called back again immediately which she never does so I figured was urgent and answered. And it was her letting me know my dad had a massive stroke, and he was found outside in their backyard, covered in ants, and he had wet himself…(imagining my strong father in such a way, being alone when it happened, and being found in such a way, fucking haunts me). He had been mowing the grass for her while she was at work, preparing for a little party they were about to have with my sister and brother (who was going to see them the next day). He had been out there for about 5 hours without breathing, and his dog -who normally ran away when not in a locked fence- was running around the front yard -not a fenced area- barking hysterically, and not even trying to leave the yard. I imagine the dog was trying to stay with my dads body while also not sure what the fuck was going on and also trying to get someone’s attention.
He wasn’t “physically” dead, but, his brain was. He had gone too long without oxygen.
My goddamn heart broke in that instant. Felt like some horrible movie plot meant to destroy the main character. I cried so hard I almost threw up, and i frantically scraped up money (thanks to a lot of kind souls here on tumblr donating to me in that instant) so I could take a flight the next morning to go down to him, BEGGING, whatever god or entity in existence that SOMEHOW, the doctors could bring some life back to him.
Obviously…they couldn’t. They did multiple tests and scans over the span of 3 days, keeping him on breathing tubes and other machines to keep his body alive. They have to have x amount of failed tests before legally declaring him “dead.” Though they did tell us from the beginning, they’re about 99.9% sure he’d never recover. And they said if he did by some miracle get a little brain activity back, he’d basically be a vegetable on a machine the rest of his life. And we all knew he would have NEVER wanted to live the rest of his life like that. So..we more or less just prayed for it to end already. To end his suffering. Let him move on. Cause he HATED being in the hospital and not being able to move or do something. (he had already gone through severe cancer surgery/treatments 10 years prior and he said he’d rather die than live in the hospital under such duress ever again.)
And so for 3 days, me and my brother and sister, sat in the hospital room with my dads body, waiting for the legality of it all to end. We watched his body twitch and move, though no control of his own. Just his brain completely shutting down. When they ran the last test, had the several different doctors sign off to keep it legal, they said it’s up to us when to pull the plug. Me, being the baby sibling, got to make the final decision. Cause they weren’t gonna do it til I said I was ready. Of course I wasn’t fucking ready. But…I had to be.
I knew he wasn’t there anymore. But, his heart was still beating. I remember once they pulled the breathing tubes out, and turned off the other life support machines, I held my dads hand, and laid my head on his chest to listen to his heartbeat as it faded and then finally stopped only a couple minutes later.
And it’s only been a little over 4 months since he died, but I hate myself and regret so much I wanna throw up every day for not answering his call. When it was going to be the last time we ever got to speak. And I ignored it cause I was in a bad mood. And we had been playing phone tag for the whole week before that. So, the last chance I had to talk to my dad, the only real parent I ever had that loved me, and the only person who was ever 100% there for me, I fucking blew it.
And…Ive been crying every singe day over this since.✌️
So…that’s my biggest regret. It sounds corny and cheesy af. But..if you love/care about someone, truly treat each moment as if it’s the last. Cause, it might be…and I promise, if you don’t, and regret it, the pain is so goddamn fucking unbearable you won’t want to live. Luckily I’ve been on 3 medications for a couple years now that have already helped me through my suicidal depression, cause I probably would have already offed myself trying to go through this if I didn’t have them.
And well…that’s why I’m so randomly active/inactive on here. Cause some days I’m just not “here.” I’m fucking struggling hard. But…being obsessed with JJK and that 2D monster that is Sukuna, has kept me going for whatever reason. I appreciate everyone that obsesses with me. Helps distract from the pain.
✌️✨ Sorry for this depressive shit. I’ll get back to drawing/writing naughty shit here soon. It’s a great pain reducer. No one is required to comment, or say anything in regards to this. Lmao, I won’t be sad if you don’t. I know this stuff is awkward and for some it’s weird to handle/respond to. If you don’t want to say anything, or scared/uncomfortable, I totally get that. Cause I’m weird about stuff like this too. I handle death in a weird way, and everyone has their own way to cope/comfort. Don’t feel pressured to say anything. Cause I understand.
I’m just blessed to have some amazing people here on Tumblr help me through the days without them even knowing it. ❤️‍🩹
Big fat smooches and hugs to you all.

Submariner Summer 38
Ok, friends, lets do some #SubmarinerSummer read through. Its part 38, and we're doing Sub-Mariner #2: Cry Triton! Only the second issue and already a crossover fight, as dramatically illustrated on another great cover.
Tumblr media
Our title splash has Namor venting his rage on the machines of the ancient city. Destiny used them to power himself up, so they've got to go. Thomas/Buscema continuing as the creative team this issue, along with Giacoia on inks, but Simek is back on letters.
Tumblr media
Once he's done with that, he turns to his next move. And for the first time since he got a solo feature, that move is the Fantastic Four, who he figures might be able to help him with his Destiny problem. But on the way there, he has an unexpected encounter with Plant Man
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But he's not alone, the Inhumans are also in the area and concerned about Plant Man's sub. So they send the aquatic Inhuman Triton to go check it out. Seeing Namor coming from one side and Triton from the other gives Plant Man an idea...the classic Let's You And Him Fight
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SO, he sets Namor up, making it look like he's his minion (as if). Triton only knows of Namor as an FF enemy, and since he's an FF ally, he buys the trick hook line and sinker, attacking Namor. I feel like Triton here is like way too much of online comic fandom
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seeing that Triton is pretty rad in the water, Namor changes the venue to the sky. As they brawl, they crash into Plant Man's sub, and Triton lets it slip that he's an FF friend. So Namor asks him to take him to them, but Triton of course refuses, misunderstanding the intention
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the brawl resumes, and as it does Namor rips off the tubes Triton needs to breath in air since he can normally only breath water. Triton starts to suffocate pretty quickly, but Namor has no intention of letting that happen and throws him into the water.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Checking in with Lady Dorma, the Atlanteans still assume Namor is dead and prepare to leave their destroyed city. Dorma wonders if that's true though, and is thinking of running off to look. Lord Vashti, though, puts the kibosh on that as she's needed to play her role as noblewoman
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Triton recovers quickly from nearly suffocating, and reengages. However, Plant Man finally makes his move and animates some sea-weed to trap Triton and Namor; this causes Namor to finally realize they've been tricked by someone, but too late to avoid becoming prisoner
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By this point the other Inhumans assume something has gone wrong with Triton, so with Black Bolt in the lead they rush out to the sub; this freaks out Plant Man, who bugs out.
Where? Uh, apparently London, innit bruv. And there we reach our cliffhanger!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A nice Marvel Misunderstanding story, with two heroic characters manipulated by the evil villain into a bout. And Triton is a good choice, certainly an underutilized one. And the action is beautifully depicted. There's no doubting either Thomas or Buscema's mastery of the form
Also, do you SEE how slay Lady Dorma in mourning is? Absolute Icon. This look or variants of it will become a go-to for her, and its not hard to see why. A huge W in Buscema's column.
But NEXT, we have to care about what happens to London, somehow, as the Plant Man plants it on those shores as we cover Sub-Mariner #3: On A Clear Day You Can See...The Leviathan!

The last few weeks, y'all
My mother keeps saying it's been a "tough karma weekend" and I just want to shake her and ask her does the understand that implies I deserve it??? Does she think I am a horrible person??
Anyway
Last May, I felt like I had a really nasty uti (called a "bladder infection" colloquially where I live). I went to the doc, given antibiotics of the general kind, and was tested for an actual UTI. Never got results. Called, never got an answer, etc.
Continue to be sick through June and July. With the return to work looming, I went to my regular doc in mid-July. I was given antibiotics and a test to see if there was a UTI.
The techs on the test accidentally tore the name label, making the final "e" of my last name disappear, so the test could not be run.
Doctor is making noise about cancer being more important to check for than running another infection check, and I'm referred to a specialist. He talks cancer (I'm cool, this is fine, this is fine, I mean, someone at my workplace was literally fired for missing too many days due to cancer without enough "evidence" last year, but I'm SURE IT WILL BE FINE) , then orders a CT scan and finds a HUGE KIDNEY STONE in my right kidney.
16 mm, if you are a kidney stone aficionado like myself. A stone must be under 5 mm to have a chance of passing on its own.
Now first, I have had about a dozen stones over the last 20 years, but this one was in the kidney, so it didn't hurt like a stone. It was just screwing stuff up in there, thus making the painful and sick UTI symptoms.
Secondly, this should have been dealt with back in March but whatEVS.
I put off the surgery for a few weeks because we're back to work and being out in the beginning of the year is a nightmare.
August 28, I have the procedure to break up the stone and a stent put in.
August 29, I know that something is Not Right because I am in constant, throbbing pain.
August 30, I call the doc and am, of course, completely dismissed about the whole pain issue. "That's normal" the nurse says before basically hanging up on me.
Sept. 7, 9:15 am. The stent is removed at the doctor's office. The relief is incalculable because that thing hurt like a MOTHER every second of every day.
By 1:00 I know that something is, once again, Very Wrong, because THIS time I have the HELLA OW back pain that is a kidney stone in the ol' tubes AND feel like I am (TMI) still peeing boiling acid as I have since Aug. 29. And for a special bonus, there is vomiting. (There's no fever. I haven't run a fever in two decades. My body just Does Not Care to Try That Hard.)
Call doc, leave message. Call doc at 1, leave message. Call doc at 3, leave message. Decide fine, I will drive my deeply pained and probably shouldn't be driving ass 40 minutes to the hospital ER. (An ambulance ride would be 100s of dollars, even with my pretty good health insurance, and I've already spent several hundred on this situation in copays.)
Sitting in the ER with 1/4 of the city's population, the doc's office finally calls back around 4 pm and says, "With those symptoms, you need to go immediately to the AR."
SURPRISE BENCH I'M ALREADY HERE.
Wait in the ER and have a test now and again from ~4pm to 10:30 pm. (The hospital did make sure I paid my $150 ER copay even though they had done nothing for two hours at the time. Priorities.) Make nice with the nurses, trying to figure out why I have been given zero pain meds when I have been officially referred my by doctor for a kidney stone related issue. Find out about 9 they will not give me pain meds without a urinalysis.
My dudes, my laydees, my folks who have no time for the gender binary, I had no liquid left in my poor, dehydrated, screaming body. ALSO the drink machine in the ER is closed and I am there alone, so I can't send someone to brave the streets in search of some gosh darned water. THERE IS NO WATER TO DRINK EXCEPT THE BATHROOM TAP AND NOT A SINGLE CUP AVAILABLE TO THE ILL MASSES.
A kind nurse finally gets me a cup of ice water, which I gulp down because dammIT I am in pain. Finally, peeage happens around 10:00.
It takes more than an hour to run the test and find out, wow, I have a raging infection. By this time I have had an abdominal sonogram and a CT scan, so they KNOW I have a giant obstruction! WHY DID I NEED AN INFECTION TO GET PAINKILLERS.
So I'm sitting there, crying silently in pain because you know. And the skin on my face is RIDICULOUS and literally is BURNED BY MY TEARS so I look an especial mess and no one is checking on me but I am clearly making the other pathetic ER patrons uncomfortable. Finally, the nurse I had been very politely asking for updates throughout the night comes up and asks, "Are you ready to get out of here?" and moves me, bless her, to a weird little side room with a powerful "This used to be a closet vibe." I get painkillers a little before midnight. I have been in full kidney stone pain for 11 hours.
The nurses tell me the CT scan show a 1.6 centimeter stone in my tubage. I think, "Wait, that's hardly smaller than it was," before my American brain goes back to middle school math class and says, "WAIT THAT IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS 16 MM WHAT THE H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS?!"
At 1:30 AM I am moved to the room and told my doc will see me in the morning.
Doc arrives ~8 am. I have had nothing to drink since midnight, so I am hoping we get this show on the road. He tries to claim the original procedure "worked" because the stone is broken up it just, you know, all JAMMED ITSELF BACK INTO A BALL as soon as the stent was out and built a little campsite complete with RAGING FIRE so we are gonna have to have another procedure under full anesthesia to pull it out and put in another stent.
I was too tired to strangle him, so I am not in jail.
I am finally taken back for surgical prep and to sign my life away around 4. I sit around for hours and finally go back to surgery ~ 7 pm.
Friends, acquaintances, and mortal enemies, I was so fricking thirsty.
ANYWAY I'm back to my room, feeling grumpy because my version of getting high from "the good stuff" is becoming Oscar the Grouch Minus Trashcan. I never get to feel all floaty and nice. Because life is a bench.
By the next morning, it is absolutely clear to me that something was VERY WRONG with the previous stent because THIS one is mildly uncomfortable, and not HELLO KNIVES TO THE GUT by my doc is just still trying to claim the first surgery was a success even though it FAILED SO BADLY I HAD A SECOND SURGERY (complete with copay). But whatever, your girl is tired, I wanna go home.
I am driven home because one can't drive on The Good Stuff. I'm home about 2 pm on Saturday afternoon, and zonk out in front of the television. Hallelujah.
Friend gives me a ride to the ER parking lot on Sunday to get my car. This means I haven't taken pain pills, but I'm not feeling the need since there is, apparently, nothing wrong with this fnjdksbhkbgiywebubWOEING stent unlike the first one. We pull up, I hop out and turn the key in my lovely little toy car.
AND IT DOES NOT START.
IT HAS DIED JUST SITTING IN THE ER PARKING LOT.
WHAT THE HELL ROSALEE??? I THOUGHT WE LOVED EACH OTHER!! I KNOW I KEEP TOO MUCH JUNK IN THE BACKSEAT BUT THIS???
Now, I do not have my cellphone because I somehow didn't plug it in last night and it was dead this morning. I am blaming the grouchy morphine. My jumper cables are, I realize, hanging in my garage, and my friend doesn't have any. We take her car to go buy jumper cables. Return to the ER parking lot, where we have become an entertaining show for the security personnel stuck out by the front entrance, drinking coffee and most likely taking bets on jumping the toy battery inside my toy car, which is stupidly difficult to get hooked up to the cables.
While I am waging war, a lovely mechanic walks by (female presenting person by open car hood looking pitiful generally leads to this in my area, and I appreciate it) and finally! Rosalee is running!
My friend insists on following me back to the auto place Just in Case only she leaves her phone in my car somehow and I have NO phone and we completely misunderstand what was supposed to happen and lose each other to driving the 2 miles between ER and Auto Zone several times trying to figure out where the heckadoodle the other person IS.
Every time you go through the ER parking lot, it costs $2 to get out. Just. As a bonus.
BUT FINALLY we met up at the AutoZone, and of course my Toy Battery is only available in one premium style (because toy cars are a pain in the klodney; my toy car also comes with impossible-to-find TOY TIRES, I kid you not, do not trust online reviews and research when you are a vehicle luddite). But that's okay! It's fine! The wonderful, knowledgeable tech installs it, my friend and I part ways with only minimal frustrated crying, she has her phone, I have my car, and I DRIVE HOME TO MY HOUSE AND GO TO BED FOREVER AND EVER AMEN.
Except I have to get everything ready for work tomorrow, so.....I'm awake again.
And my mother keeps insisting it's a "bad karma experience" and I'm just
DO YOU THINK I AM A SERIAL KILLER OR SOMETHING I LITERALLY DO NOT SQUASH SPIDERS.
Anyway, have a nice week, everyone, I am going back to bed until 6 in the ack emma.
Bai.

“You can’t go in there, Captain.”
Isaac’s normally calm and impeccably controlled facade had shattered to pieces more than ten minutes ago. He hadn’t bothered to remove anything but his helmet before he stormed from the docking bay to the medical ward. Whatever measure of gratitude he’d felt for the confused, if not terrified bystanders between there and here swiftly moving out of the way, fizzled with the hard set of his jaw.
The Captain didn’t like to pull rank, which was helpful because he didn’t think any of his designations would convince the medical intern who probably had the best intentions to move aside, but there was also no way he’d be dissuaded and felt fairly confident it would take more muscle than the Citadel’s medical ward could muster before he fought his way past. A small, withering part of him hoped it would not come to that.
“Son.” His rigid stance solidified the same way it did when he planted his omnishield in the middle of a firefight. “I’m getting in there. It’s up to you how, exactly, that’s going to happen.”
At least the intern had the good sense to be terrified. Though it wouldn’t save him for much longer.
“Let him pass.”
The Captain’s dark gaze fell to the sandy-haired man with glasses and a datapad who’d been studying him since approach.
“The Commander’s Commander, I assume,” the new man said.
“Where is she,” Isaac growled. It was not a question.
“Through the doors.” The man with the glasses jerked his head, motioning over his shoulder at the security doors to the care ward behind him. “Second hallway on your left.” His slim fingers danced over the datapad before the outer doors slid open. “There is a decontamination protocol-” He sighed as Isaac disappeared between them. “Which I guess you’ll figure out.”
“Are all of them like that?” the intern asked of the slightly (but barely) older physician who ignored him completely to send a com link to the paladin’s target.
“Hey Katie girl. There’s a very angry Captain headed your way.”
-
Isaac had been responsible for a fair share of the gore and carnage he’d seen in his exemplary if not fast-tracked career but the glimpse of her olive skin, penetrated by the needle of an IV, might have been the worst. “Maisy.”
She flushed, a pretty peachy pink color spread across her cheeks and the green eyes he’d come to count on widened at the sight of him. “Zac.” She second guessed, glancing nervously to the female doctor with long, dark hair beside her before trying again. “Captain.”
“Mase-” Isaac’s mouth couldn’t seem to form words but his gloved hands found hers and he was kneeling at the edge of her bed, too concerned to be bothered by the clunky armor he still wore. “They said you fainted.” One gloved hand reached to stroke the side of her face, brushing a dark silken lock of her hair behind one ear as a way to say just some of the things his treacherous mouth couldn’t. “What happened?” His gaze flickered to the doctor and he ignored the contemplative look of speculation she wore to spit out a demand, disguised as a question. “Is she alright?”
He watched the women exchange a long glance before either of them turned to him again. But still holding both of her hands in one of his was enough to quell the raging storm of his concern- for now.
“She’s not injured,” the doctor said with a hint of something like amusement before sobering gently with softer features. “I’ll let you two talk.” The doctor ducked her head, avoiding Isaac’s burning glare as she walked to the door, ready to leave them alone in the exam room. “Maisy, I’ll be in my office if you need me.”
The doors hadn’t slid shut before Isaac was holding her face again, ignoring the sick twist in his stomach at the tubing still pumping a clear liquid into her. “Baby.” If his voice sounded weak or helpless, it wasn’t an act. He preferred active combat, even literal torture, to the sight of this woman relegated to a hospital bed. “What happened. What can I do?”

Bucky looked down at the figure in the bed, the monitors beeping in the background at a steady rhythm. He sighed and set down the bouquet of flowers on the bedside table before rounding the bed to sit in the chair. It was uncomfortable but he didn’t complain, just leaned forward, elbows on his knees as he hung his head. He made a promise to Natasha years ago that if anything would happen to her, he would look out for Yelena. And that promise, to him, was broken the night before.
He wasn’t expecting for Yelena to show up in the middle of his mission. He wasn’t expecting to see her being a contract killer for the opposing side, either. It wasn’t like he knew it was her when he saw the dark figure on the other end of the hallway, goggles glowing green in the dim light. He let his guard down for a second, assuming that the figure was just another one of Valentina’s lackeys and never took in the fact that the figure was far from being built like a man. It was when he was about to land a punch with his vibranium arm that he finally realized that the ‘enemy’ was, in fact, Yelena, but it was too late. His fist came in contact with her chest, sending her into the wall twenty feet back. His heart dropped, stomach in his throat as he rushed forward to one of the few people he thought of as family. When he took off the goggles and mask as he moved to hold her. Blood was coming from her ears and mouth and wasn’t responding to his words.
So now she was hooked up to monitors and tubes, asleep still. The doctors said she will come-to eventually, but it was on her terms. Every second her eyes were closed, the more he begged silently with an unseen force to switch their positions. He had brought the blanket that Natasha made her, laying it over Yelena’s unmoving form. He wanted her surrounded by the things that he knew would be comforting to her if, no, when she woke up.
He had to stop thinking of it as being an if, not a when. She was going to wake up, and he will do everything in his power to make it happen. He ran his hands over his face and sighed heavily. The doctor was optimistic that she would come out of it, but that did little to ease the guilt he had. They only lost Natasha months ago, and both of them took it hard. Now he was the reason why Yelena was in this position.
“Did I ever tell you that frowning isn’t becoming of you?” a raspy voice sounded.
Bucky’s head snapped up, his blue eyes meeting the half closed ones of Yelena’s. She gave him a weak smile as he stood, taking her one hand in his metal one.
“Seriously, your forehead is going to be fixed in that position if you keep frowning like that,” she teased, the side of her mouth tilting slightly in a smirk. Her eyes closed as she inhaled deeply, groaning slightly as she shifted.
“Careful, solntsey, you have a few broken ribs and a concussion,” he whispered, his flesh hand moving to smooth over her hair.
“Yeah, you always knew how to punch,” she smiled, eyes still closed. She squeezed his hand and looked at him through slits. “Why were you there?”
“Could ask you the same thing,” he countered, “who sent you?”
“Brat, you know I cannot discuss that.”
“Bull shit, I almost killed you.”
“But you didn’t.”
“Solntsey–”
“Don’t solntsey me, James. I’m serious, I can’t tell you. For a very good reason too.” Yelena coughed slightly, swearing some in Russian before she sighed. “I know Na’sha made you promise to take care of me, but I am a former Widow. I know how to take care of myself.”
“Yet you walked right into a place where the Winter Solider was,” he grumbled.
“I thought you said that Soldat was dead,” she replied, the teasing tone back in her voice. “Thought you went by White Wolf now.”
Bucky shook his head and smiled, letting go of her hand to gently scoot her over so he could lie down next to her. He was careful of the tubes and wires coming from her as he laid down next to her, adjusting the blanket from Natasha around her.
“I promised her to take care of you solntsey, and I will spend the next month making this up to you.” Yelena fell quiet, her head resting on his shoulder. Words did not have to be said to know that the small comments about Natasha was enough to open the deep wounds of her being dead.
Yelena pulled her head back slowly to look at him. “She would have kicked your ass for hurting me, knowingly or not.” She gave him a sad smile, one that he couldn’t return.
“I miss her too, solntsey,” he whispered, pressing a kiss to her temple and letting her rest her head against him again. They remained quiet for a few moments before Yelena broke the silence.
“You know, you can get me a hot fudge sundae with peanuts if you are serious about making this up to me.” The teasing tone was back and she slightly slapped his hand. The slight playfulness in her voice brought a small smile to his lips and he chuckled.

The Good Doctor
Twenty years ago
Doctor Simmons was not a man who lost his composure easily. Years of academic study and training honed his mind into a scalpel, and he took pride in suppressing the same emotions that often led his peers to failing. For example, many would blanche at the thought of using a newly discovered type of creature, one with mythical origins, as a crude science project more than anything.
Simmons, though, was one who saw that as the only logical path to take. Age was beginning to wear on him, thin lines around his eyes and mouth, whitening hair that was once blonde and bright, and those once rich brown eyes had begun to dull. Still, as he stood in front of the containment tube that was humming to life he felt like a young man again.
Here on this off the books research base, even for the normally amoral Cheron Group, he ruled over it like a lord given a fief by his king. Freedom to study what he needed, as long as he brought profit back to the mainland nobody questioned him. It was perfect for a man such as him. Now he could feel the project he wasted who knows how many lifetimes on before finally coming to an end.
Outside the facility things were much less calm. A storm was washing over them, winds powerful enough to make the sturdy support legs of the converted drilling platform rock. Lightning was crashing into the metal frame nearly every second. The good doctor and his team safely grounded inside, but outside every strike was sending jolts, even dulled ones, through the team at work.
They had to contain the storm, but first it had to be weakened. Simmons didn’t care how, that was for the ‘outside team’ to handle, led by those young… contract workers. They promised him results, and like his corporate masters he didn’t much care how those results came about as long as they could be exploited.
Present day
Doctor Simmons was starting to lose his composure.
“Seal the damn doors, I want guards on every entryway, windows too! If ANYTHING not in a lab coat moves, destroy it!” Simmons shouted as he slammed his hand down on the console he stood at, glaring at the screen that showed that once again a storm was rolling over his research station.
“It shouldn’t be coming this soon…” he hissed, rich brown eyes narrowing as he ran a hand through his bright blonde hair that almost shone in the fluorescent lighting of the command center. “It could barely swim when it left… unless…” He squinted, slapping the guard running the console’s arm. “Pause, pause that frame and rewind it five seconds.”
His eyes widened in horror as he saw the sight on the screen. Lit by an explosion of lightning it was still hard to make the figure out fully, but he could see certain things. Long black hair, dark blue eyes, fangs like a serpent’s that were grinning with sadistic glee…
“God… there’s another?!”
Twenty years ago
“Another!” Ryan shouted from the hook of the crane he was hanging off, pressing the magazine’s quick release on the rifle he was shooting, sending the spent container falling down into his waiting wife’s hand. “Hurry up! We’re wearing her down!” He added as the crane swung around, piloted by Ana who was still recovering from her last fight with this storm.
A sigil painted on the magazine with blood and soft chanting later Ilsa sent the now filled clip up to Ryan again, carrying on a cool breeze that did the work of sliding it back into place for him as he used both hands to simultaneously hang off the hook and hold his gun.
“Damn it…” the northern witch hissed softly as she watched the bright blue trail of ice infused bullets sail into the storm. “Hurry up with that containment, Simmons! I swear to the ancestors if you try to fuck us on this I’ll haunt your children’s children…”
The bullets were working, at least. They learned long ago that conventional weapons were of little use against this target, but like most beings of the sea it was sensitive to temperature changes. The ice bullets didn’t do much damage proper, in fact they mostly shattered against the creature’s skin and scales, but the enchanted chill that soaked into its bones was more effective at slowing it than any mundane bullet hitting the target could be.
Inside the station it seemed that Simmons was at least being a man of his word, watching the newly designed containment tube slowly come to life.
It was a prototype, a design once just a theory meant to contain the most dangerous ‘materials’ by putting them into a form of stasis. ‘Form’ being the key term there, due to the intended tests for this creature they needed its blood and nerves and other functions to be performing as normal even if it was contained, so this tube was designed to functionally trap its inhabitant in a state of full sensory helplessness.
Unable to move or communicate, it’d be feeling and experiencing everything regardless. Again, a proposition that any ethical scientist would consider too horrific to humor. Simmons, however, knew that ‘ethics’ and other such concerns were just emotional appeals that held progress back. The creature would endure it, even if they had to pump it with enough healing solutions to keep an entire mundane hospital supplied for a year. It had to! This was his only shot!
Present day
“I don’t understand…” Nessa frowned on the small boat that was currently bouncing along the waves and foam of the churning sea around them. “Why is she sending a storm already?”
Nessa and Alice had changed from their formalwear to ‘work clothes’, both dressed for more comfort and ease of movement than anything else. Nessa, after drying off, changed into simple jeans and a black long-sleeved shirt under a heavy matching coat. Alice had changed into a long black skirt and green turtleneck sweater to keep her warm in the cold ocean wind.
“Isn’t this going to scare your aunt’s agent off?” Nessa continued, flexing her gloved hands.
Next to the boat, keeping up with the breakneck speed that Harlow was piloting it at, was their ‘guest’ from before. Thea Aquamarine, princess of the sea, was swimming through the boat’s wake like a dolphin, body twisting and rolling as she cut through the water with speed. The main source of this speed was the large blue fish tail that replaced her legs the moment she stepped into the ocean water. Sparkling blue scales shimmered in the moonlight like gems every time that powerful tail breached the surface to propel her along. If not for the rather rude first impression she made, Nessa could almost confuse her for the more traditional stories of ‘mermaids’ and their beauty and grace.
“The storm is not to keep them out, fool…” Thea huffed angrily, instantly destroying any illusions of tact and sweetness one may have about her people. “My aunt’s agent is already within the walls of your people’s tumor on the sea. The storm is to keep them in!”
Indeed, currently inside the station, watching in horror as the guards and other scientists ran around her to take up positions, a young scientist by the name of Theresa was trying her best to look as busy as possible.
She never expected things to get this far out of control when she took the offer. It was supposed to be a harmless, easy, job. She was approached by someone claiming to speak for some kind of… well truth be told Theresa didn’t really follow. She had a lot of titles, but she sounded like some kind of nobility. They just wanted her to smuggle something out of her boss’ office for them and she’d make enough to pay off her student debt and take care of her family for life! It wouldn’t even matter if Simmons fired her after that if he found out!
Now there was a storm shaking the building, and the guards had taken out their heavy-duty weapons. She quietly ran a hand along the bundle pressed against her side under her clothes, taking a deep breath to calm herself as she felt the small leather pouch was still secure. Just had to get out, get to the drop off, and she’d never have to think about this job again!
Twenty years ago
“Just gotta get home, one more good hit and we'll never think about this again…” Ryan groaned, his arm wrapped in the chain for support, having lost his ability to hold it proper about five swings ago.
Ana was good at avoiding the strikes of lightning that would kill him instantly but the endless torrent of wind, rain, even razor-sharp sleet in a few passes, was wearing him down. He heard the click of a fresh magazine sliding in, his eyes heavy with exhaustion as his muscles burned. “One more… good hit…” he repeated as ice streaked through the darkness around them once again.
“It’s ready doctor!” One of Simmons’ assistants called, the containment tube glowing brightly as it was finally primed to accept its occupant.
“Wait for the signal! We only get one shot!” Simmons growled, gripping the edge of the console tight enough to make his knuckles white as he watched the fight outside. “Damn it Roche, you promised me results, don’t fuck me on this…”
One final swing was all Ryan could handle, his last few shots going wide as he slumped, gun splashing into the sea as he dangled helplessly in the chain. Ilsa grit her teeth as she signaled Ana to bring him down. She couldn’t see if any of those hit home. The storm was less severe but still going, she had no idea what ‘weakness’ even looked like in a being this powerful! Still, Ryan was spent, Ana was recovering, her magic was strong but not nearly strong enough…
“Now!” She called, waving her hand at the camera behind her.
“Now!” Simmons repeated as a flurry of activity around him as the tube dropped into the ocean under the facility and opened to suck in the seawater around it. “Come on…” Simmons whispered, for once in his life sounding genuinely desperate as he watched the monitor.
For a long moment it looked like nothing would happen, the tube simply dangling in its supports, filled with water and glowing but doing nothing else. After a tense minute, though, movement would be seen on the sonar.
“It’s moving!” The scientist manning it called.
“Away or to us?” Simmons asked quickly.
“To us, but it’s jerky, like it’s trying to move away! I think it’s working Sir!”
Simmons felt the manic smile crack his normally stoic face as he watched with rapturous delight. It was happening, he saw a shadow at first before a glint of red scale, a flash of red hair, a hateful green eye glaring at the camera as if it knew, and then the call came.
“Subject secure!”
“Reel it in then! I want to see my prize up close before those mercenaries come looking for pay…”
Present day
“Wonder how much it was…” Nessa asked casually as the boat came up on the center of the storm where the empress was waiting for them. “I mean, taking the wrath of all this must have been expensive right?” She asked as the boat got a good view of the empress at last.
She looked quite beautiful really, the upper half of a human was all that could be seen as her tail kept her upright under the dark water. She looked young for her power but still older than anyone else who had come to her at least. Matronly even, her creamy, almost pale, flesh contrasted so starkly with that oil black hair and intense green eyes. Yet, despite those features and the storm around her she smiled so warmly when she saw Thea, holding her arms out to embrace her daughter even in all the chaos.
“Beloved daughter, I’m glad you were successful.” Her voice was so calm, and sweet, the voice one associated with a siren, and Alice could feel her body relaxing around the woman as she heard it…
“Of course mother.” Thea said in a softer voice as well, burying her face in her mother’s chest for a moment before ‘composing’ herself again, straightening up with that haughty smirk back on her lips as she turned to face the boat. “Sir Harlow, knight of the Roche family, Lady Alice, heir to the Roche family, and… the other…”
“Nessa is fine.” Nessa glared back. “I’m sure your snake tongue struggles to speak a language like Nahuatl.”
“Yes.” Thea huffed. “Primate languages are so vulgar to learn anyway, I’ve done well enough with the handful I’ve needed. Nessa… guardian of the Roche heir, may I present Empress Azhu, queen of Lemuria, archduchess of the eastern seas, viscountess of the frozen south, first spawn of…”
“Enough, my heart.” Azhu said, placing a hand on Thea’s shoulder. That voice remained so calm and serene, yet there was authority in it now as she cut her daughter off. “These are not titles the land recognizes. Simply Empress Azhu, or Azhu alone, will do. Your family is sworn to mine, we should speak as equals.”
Thea let out an annoyed sigh at that, clearly not a fan of such a view, but not daring to argue with her mother in front of ‘company’.
“I trust my daughter has explained things?” She continued, smiling at Alice. “My, a blind one. Forgive me but I don’t think I’ve ever worked with a fully blessed member of your bloodline. I am humbled you came personally.”
Alice was actually taken aback by that, so used to Thea’s superiority and aggressiveness, to have her even higher-ranking mother act so… down to earth… was genuinely shocking.
“Y-yes, of course.” Alice coughed lightly as she composed herself. “According to my father this was a huge undertaking for him and his, it’s only right we send our best to finish it.” she smiled lightly before looking to the empress with a more sympathetic expression. “Your daughter also mentioned the losses your family took, may their memories be blessings.”
“Thank you, dear.” Azhu responded as a cold, clammy, yet still somehow nurturing, hand took Alice’s. “That means a lot, I know both our families are no stranger to loss at her hands. Yes, Thea’s father was one of my most beloved mates, and her sisters… well one never forgets their first spawning. We will avenge them, and the losses your family took.”
Alice could see this woman’s danger up close now. Without sight she could hear that voice so much more clearly than the others.
There’s genuine empathy there, kindness, softness even, but under it all is the voice of a predator. Thea is a shark, crashing through a school of fish to fill her mouth as best as possible and relying on raw power and passion to win. Azhu, though… this woman’s an eel.
She lies in wait, hidden in a rock, so calm and serene looking… right up until prey passes by and lets their guard down. Then Alice could imagine her striking with deadly accuracy, the kind you only get when your victim trusts you completely…
“Of course.” Alice said as she took the woman’s hand in return. “So, I’m told you believe her agent is in there already?”
“Yes, I can feel my sister’s artifacts, and I felt the one within moving already. I know these humans are too stupid to understand the power it holds… it must be her agent within them taking it.”
“I see.” Nessa nodded. “Good logic, so you want them alive for questioning?”
“If possible… I have many ways, though.” the woman grinned softly. “Their life is… appreciated, but not required. I do not wish to tie your hands. Simply keep their head intact and I will be happy.”
“I have your father on the comms.” Harlow spoke up, having been working the radio equipment since they came to a stop. “He has experience with these facilities and likely can guide you to the object.”
“As much as I dislike having a babysitter I agree, he likely knows the artifact we’re looking for.” Alice huffed, clipping the camera he gave her onto her sweater and hooking the communicator into her ear.
“The elder Roche is with us then?” Azhu asked, sounding genuinely pleased. “Wonderful. Please tell him I am thankful for his assistance again, and I apologize for any rudeness my daughter displayed in his home.”
Alice chuckled softly, putting a finger to her ear for a moment. “He hears you, and he says she was fine, by her standards at least.” She smirked as Nessa laughed next to her.
“I shall dull my storm then…” the empress nodded. “You’ll have an easy trip to the station proper and I will keep watch for any escape attempts.”
Alice was about to ask if she needed help keeping watch before an elbow from Nessa snuffed that question out. Alice couldn’t see the glowing yellow eyes that lit up the water around them like stars in the night, only seeming to open when the empress acknowledged them… Probably for the best she couldn’t see them, as Nessa shuddered softly.
“There’ll be guards.” Ryan said into Alice’s ear as the pair hopped off the boat, only to be met with rifles thrust in their face by black uniformed Cheron security.
“Yea, finding that out.” Alice frowned behind her glasses, using her cane to push the gun barrel from her face. “I’m a hunter! I’m here to solve your security breach! Tell whoever’s in charge that Alice Roche is here and stop pointing guns at Nessa and me before you lose a hand.”
Alice’s voice was firm, not just because she knew the best way to handle nervous security was with authority, but also because she truly hated this situation. Helping Cheron, even to help herself, left a bad taste in her mouth. She still couldn’t imagine her father and mother working with them, even in desperation. They seem to actively do everything they can to give hunters a bad name in every community possible. Profit driven, exploitative, downright cruel even, they only cared about the supernatural world as a means to an end.
“Doctor Simmons will see you.” one of the guards said after listening to his own communicator.
“Simmons?” Ryan whispered just loud enough for Alice to barely hear. “Did he have a kid? A sibling? Impossible, none of his records…”
“Shh…” Alice hissed as faintly as she walked, following the footsteps of the guard ahead of her. “This place is like a maze. I need to hear to get my bearings, I don’t care who this guy is.”
“No, Alice this is important.” Ryan responded before they turned a corner to reach the central command center. There Ryan saw him through the camera. Doctor Yuri Simmons, in all his youthful prime, stood in front of Alice with an annoyed look on his face.
It was impossible, if Ryan and Ilsa hadn’t researched him so well before taking the deal. It'd look like it really was the son of the Simmons he worked with, the spitting image of the older man. Ryan knew he didn’t have a spouse, though, or family on file. Moreover, he had seen the pictures of Simmons’ past works, his initial projects that got him the respect and authority needed to oversee such a secret location, when he was a younger man. This wasn’t the spitting image of Simmons’ youth, this WAS Simmons, just… young!
“Alice, get out of there! We’ll find a new way, this is bad, abort the-…”
Ryan was cut off by Simmons chuckling softly, tapping his own communicator in his ear.
“Same frequency as always, Roche. Enough though, you’ve come to do a job, and I expect the job to be done… Just like old times, right?” Simmons sneered a bit, voice dripping with spite before he focused on Alice.
“Did your father ever talk about me by chance? His old pal Yuri? It’s a shame really, if he just stayed in contact I could have been uncle Yuri with how close we used to be… Well, I guess that’s what happens when you kill a guy, though. Leaves a bit of a rift in the relationship. Well, bygones. Let’s begin. You’re here to snuff out my rat infestation, yes?”
Alice felt her blood run cold as the men behind her and Nessa cocked their rifles.
Twenty years ago
Yuvia roared in anger as her fists banged against the glass in vain. Every time she touched it a shock ran through her body. Not like electricity proper, more like her nerves themselves were lit aflame for just a moment.
Even out of her storm she was the picture of ‘the wrath of the sea’. Fiery red hair and gleaming ruby scales went with her light skin and dark green eyes to make her almost too bright to fully look at in the lab’s lighting. Still, as the containment device went to work pumping the water with the solution Simmons had created her movements slowed. They’d stop, finally, as she hung there, still glaring out with hate, but unable to move even a finger as she bobbed helplessly in the water.
“Excellent, she’s just how I imagined her…” Yuri smiled, putting a hand on the glass. “You’re the secret, the wrath of the sea that never dies… you’re the missing puzzle piece I’ve been looking for all this time. So don’t hate me too much. I’m doing this for a greater good, your sacrifice will be remembered, my vodyanoy.” He sounded almost dreamy as he spoke before stepping back, adjusting his coat before nodding to an assistant. “Prepare the first test, I’ll need five centimeters of flesh, seven scales, and thirty milliliters of blood.” he smiled as he made his way out to the now calm night outside, taking a deep breath of the sea air as Ana and Ilsa worked to keep Ryan on his feet.
“Wonderful work, all of you! Ilsa, as terrifying as ever, and Ryan… well I doubt he can hear me in that state so I can admit his little acrobatics display was impressive.” he chuckled, nodding to Ana as well. “And you, good work with that crane, useful all around… We should make this a more permanent agreement, shouldn’t we?” He smiled, looking at Ilsa again. “Come on, Ilsa, wasn’t this fun? Like the old days, all of us, hunting? What do you say, while Ryan’s not awake to be a stick in the mud. He listens to you, you can tell him my team isn’t bad. I don’t give a shit about the rest of Cheron… those idiots are just tools, but I’d like to have people I can trust on my team.”
“If you cared about trust you wouldn’t work with Cheron at all!” Ana spat back angrily, Ilsa nodding as she did so.
“Yes, Yuri you know I love you but I cannot support what you’re doing here. I… I understand your circumstances, believe me, if anyone does it’s me, but…” She sighed softly, shaking her head. “There are right and wrong ways to do things, and Cheron is the wrong way.”
Yuri felt his jaw clench, glaring at her as she spoke. “WRONG way? The wrong way is living like this! It’s this…” He stopped himself, taking a breath to refocus. “When you’re ready to be an adult, call me. I can always use more intelligent people on my team, and despite your narrow-mindedness you three are that.”
“Hey…” Ryan groaned as he woke up, staggering to his feet fully. “What about the pay?” He called as Yuri had already turned his back on them.
“Oh I’d never dream of insulting you, my old friend, with my filthy Cheron money. Your pay is the helicopter waiting for you, keep the fucking thing for all I care.”
“Fuck you…” Ryan spat back, pushing away from the women to shove Yuri. “You think you can treat us like that because we don’t agree with you selling your soul?! You promised us money at least for all this crap, don’t you ghouls have a finder’s fee?”
Yuri’s face twisted in anger as he turned back, returning the shove to Ryan. “Ghoul?! I am working for a better future for HUMANITY! You know, the beings you come from too? If you want to get weepy over the fate of a monster that killed your siblings go ahead but don’t you dare accuse me of selling my soul when you’re defending the ‘dignity’ of th-…”
Whatever else he was going to call the creature in the tube was cut off by a shockingly harsh punch from the barely standing Ryan landing right across his jaw.
“Keep my siblings out of your mouth! You have no idea what it’s like t-…”
Again his threat was cut off as Yuri lunged at him, grabbing Ryan around the neck and slamming his back into the railing behind him. “Tell me, tell me what I have no idea of! Is it watching family die? Is it seeing these things victimize me and my loved ones? Go on, Ryan, finish the sentence! Show me how stupid you really are by thinking I don’t know anything about what you went through!”
“Yuri, stop! Let him go!” Ilsa shouted, hitting him on the back but unable to break his grip as Ryan choked for air.
“No! I want to hear what this glorified mercenary you abandoned your family for thinks we don’t know about loss! How many siblings have you lost, Ryan?! How many parents?! Children?! Lovers?! CITIES?! I’ve lost ALL OF THEM and you care more about the creatures that would take them from you than me?! For god’s sake Ryan we’re fami-…”
This time it was a gunshot that cut someone off. Ana stood behind the struggle, holding a smoking pistol as she panted. She had meant to aim for Yuri’s side, a bad hit for sure but one his medical team could patch up right away.
The struggle was intense, though, and she was having trouble standing so long thanks to the still fresh scar up the side of her body…
The bullet had gone up too far, hitting him right in the back of the head. Blood splattered against Ilsa as she screamed in horror, Ryan groaning as Yuri’s limp body covered him.
“Fuck… get him off me… he’s gonna knock me over…” he coughed as he pushed Yuri off, Ana running over to help.
“I… I meant to… I was aiming for…”
“It’s… It’s okay,” Ilsa said, tears welling in her eyes even as she said that. “It’s okay. He was… I don’t know what, he was going crazy. I just…” She let out a ragged breath, wiping the blood off her face as best she could.
“Damn…” Ryan sighed, looking at Yuri’s dead body with surprising pity for someone who was just being choked by him a moment ago. “What happened to you man?” was all he could say.
The three left quickly after that, they knew Cheron couldn’t exactly call the police over a technical self-defense shooting that happened on an off the books highly illegal research lab, but nobody really wanted to stay around after anyway.
The hunt was, despite everything, a success. Yuvia had been contained, Cheron got its ‘subject,’ and the creature that killed Ryan’s siblings and so many others was no longer a threat. Still, it didn’t make the hollow victory any better as the trio rode home on the helicopter in silence.
Somewhere across the world, at the same time as that silent helicopter ride, for a brief moment over America a glowing aurora could be seen despite being far from where it should be. Shortly after, a baby was born, as so many had been before, and somewhere deep in the void of the abyss, a voice laughed.
Another spin of the wheel, huh?

I'm mad because my teacher is being sassy to me!!! Same teacher as last time. I was on my phone because I have nothing else to do and she was snooty about it instead of just normally telling me to put it away like every other teacher does. I have everything turned in but she hasn't even graded any of it. If she wants to get after me for having a low grade maybe she should actually grade the stuff instead of sneaking up on kids and harping on them like the control freak she is. She's always like, *you have to remind me and let me know when stuff is turned in,* no! I'm not gonna do your job for you. It clearly says on the page that all of it is turned in, and I'm fairly sure it sends her an email when I turn stuff in automatically too. I'm mad. Anyways. I'm gonna eat a snack right now in her class out of retaliation because she hates when people eat in her class. Even if it leaves no crumbs or anything. She's just a control freak. As I previously mentioned. I really just want to go home. I've had a really rough couple of days and we're moving in five days and I'd much rather be at home packing my things into boxes than at school. My mom says I can just walk home if I feel like it, but skipping makes me feel bad... Besides, my favorite class is the very last period. Annoying. If it was my first period, I'd just do that and then go home. Every day. It's IB art. The teacher is super nice, and she lets me use her art supplies, and sometimes even lets me take them home. A few days ago she let me take home a bunch of donated tubes of paint, like twelve of them. They were all super weird in-between colors, no primaries. Stuff like ochre, teal, dark green, pink, etc. I couldn't imagine an advanced art class with a mean teacher. That just kills all your inspiration. I hate my graphic design teacher because of just that, and I loathe coming to this class. Anyways. Today I have a tiny bag of almonds that Kenny's mom gave to me a week or so ago. I snagged them on the way out the door to school because I always get hungry in this class. I really just want to go home. I want to be especially methodical with packing my stuff, because my mom and I struggle to find stuff when it's packed because we never label the boxes. I would go all out on the labelling. I have sticker paper that I could write lists of items on, and then stick it to the side of the box. I could even put tape over the paper to make it secure. I'm excited to move because I want to get a job. I would love to have more spending money. Love love love. There's so much I want to buy. I want to get an office chair for my desk, because right now I'm using a super hard piano bench that really hurts my back. I would like to get myself a haircut because my hair is TO MY BACK. Genuinely the longest it's been in a decade. I would buy a water bottle because my mom threw all the plastic ones I was using away, and I don't actually have a washable water bottle. I'm not sure what kind I would want to get, though. There's so many kinds you can get. I guess I don't really have a preference. I would buy a TON of stickers. You can find stickers for so cheap on Amazon and I bet I could find cheap stickers on AliExpress too. I love stickers SO much. I love scrapbooking and sketchbooking. It makes me so happy. If I had enough spending money, I'd probably also indulge in some secondhand anime figures, too.. I can't help myself when I see super cheap ones online. I think they're so cute. I have three of them right now, so impressive I know. The first one I got was of Madoka, where she's got her hands together and she's just standing. I think it's pretty common because I see it everywhere. I got it for $15 off eBay. My second one is of Asuka from Evangelion, my friend Dia got it for me off of Mandarake. She's in her school uniform and she's got one hand up to her face and one kind of out to her side. The third one I just recently bought a couple weeks ago, and it's Iroha from Magia Record. That one was also $15. I see so many cute Madoka Magica figures on Mercari for cheap that I wish I could buy.

When every little thing is a threat it is time to reassess make it doing it it's a weird time it might mean what they're finding is too big for them to swallow and the mathematics craze begins they want to use devices and they can't nothing was them and it's too big it's really nonsense
- problems developed because of the above. We're now seeing to it by circumstance and by what we're doing and most of the chapter will come to a close
-there's a lot going on here as we're walking by and things are changed they have a lot to do a lot to build people call places to go it still seems kind of farty and it's really a lot of fear and anxiety and they don't know what they're doing if they're doing the right thing or not and they're attacking the max and really it's where and when it probably the problem but it's always been a goal that they're trying to achieve and they're doing it now that causes fear but really they're living the dream kind of
-couple more things he's having a snack cuz he's going to shop for stuff and take some energy so it's needed. So typically cheap to people who are in the military and say we're getting his stuff it's kind of said it that's true but we acknowledge it's hard to get him stuff and she's setting up a factory to make the square tube motorbikes and a lot of them they both being fly cycles they like it it's very simple that's easy to do. We have a lot to go over I'm going to go ahead and do it now
-there's a few more things happening what kind of rude by nature and naughty tried to deal with but here we go
-we have an issue with what's happening to him some people are trying to fix it they're going ahead with it now. It's a huge day large numbers of people working like madness and they're running up against deadlines they have a lot to do is huge huge amounts of motorcycles to refit. Massive numbers of bicycles that being made all over Earth bunch of accidents and control issues. Who thinks you may have seen coquette and the max was saying that about her you two figured it out then the other dog's name it's like the firebird this flying around on fire and stuff and supposed to arise out of ashes is it supposed to make and didn't happen but after the same they're trying to get their code out again
-it's a few other things happening but we're going ahead and lay it out like what's happening right now
-they're treating him like butternut squash and somebody doing the job and some are cranky losers there's a lot of the latter is downright annoying you're going to change it up pretty soon but really it's the pseudo empire and the max and that's who's up to it what's going on right now today in court the morlock 5 lots another 20% of their lands and it brought it to remaining only 20%, and Florida and other places too it's happening but it's happening here it's pretty bad. And there's a lot of stuff going on but this is huge and the land went into court today and it was said in court that they no longer own the land and that they're assuming the title and it's not the cordless people suing them they lost the case like immediately today they're there for like 5 minutes it's true too and we're going to issue what happened today in a moment

This Dark Thing That Sleeps In Me - a Magnus Archives AU, Chapter Nine
Tumblr media
This is a DARK AU; it is not a kid-fic, though Jon is young. Bittersweet ending ahead.
Spoilers for the whole show, though this is very much an alternate universe.
Gently, she said, “And sometimes, the information in books is wrong—even contradictory.”
It wasn’t supposed to be like this. What was it supposed to be like? Well, he didn’t know. It was probably good he didn’t. The more he learned, the more danger he was in from Jonah. But the less he learned, the less sure he was of what he had to do.
How do you eat an elephant? his past self said, piping inside his head. One bite at a time.
That worked. The next bite was dinner and pleasing Jonah Magnus. He could do that.
AO3
------------
Apparently, knowing that she would be reborn did nothing to assuage Martin’s sorrow.
Jon sort of got it. She wouldn’t be the same person. She’d have no memories. Whatever relationship they’d had would have to be rebuilt. “I’m so sorry,” he kept saying, because he couldn’t help feeling like this was somehow his fault. He’d chosen to be reborn; he’d triggered whatever this was. This was his fault… but he couldn’t explain.
Martin didn’t think it was Jon’s fault, clearly, but Martin also didn’t seem to have a lot of mental space to give Jon right now.
This was... this was bad for Martin. All of this was. To be the only one (apart from Jonah and Oliver) to live through his friends’ deaths, again and again, and have to start over from scratch. Jonah made Martin go through this grief over and over. You are about to pay off all the effort I put into you, Jonah had said, and then assigned him to watch Jon.
Was that somehow his fault, too? Jon felt sick.
Martin wept for a while. Then he staggered to a speaking tube in the wall and managed to send orders down the pipe. Apparently, everyone heard, and understood, in spite of his weeping, because then, it got crazy.
People swarmed in to clean the place. All the webbing was removed, and the body taken by the Flesh for preparation for burial.
Corruption moved in, but only lightly—so that all the blood and bone and bits were disintegrated, rotted a thousand years in an instant, decomposed down to dust. Eye moved in, making sure the place was fully clean, that nothing remained of Annabelle or her corpse or the strange power that had slain her. Tim moved in to take Martin in his arms and cry together. Sasha swept the whole room with some kind of weird torch, its electric beam purple, and pointed out some spots the Corruption had missed. Mike was hard on her heels, and when she took a moment to cry, she leaned into his chest to do it.
There was more. There was more fuss, more mayhem, more discussion. Jon didn’t catch most of it. He was ignored. They were all in such a rush that no one even saw him unless they tripped over him, and that happened several times before he figured out he needed to sit in the corner, rather than anywhere near the center of the room.
From there, curled up, he watched as all evidence Annabelle had ever existed was swept away from this place. Everyone was shaken; a few people cried. But no one expressed shock. No one swore revenge. No one reacted in anger.
Sasha and Mike finally returned and sat on Martin’s other side. She and Tim leaned in, arms around him, compressing his grief. Mike sat slightly to the side, uncertain; finally, he put one hand on Tim’s knee. Tim eyed him, then put his hand over Mike’s. It was a concession of some kind, some important door being opened, but Jon didn’t fully understand it.
He had never seen affection like this. He’d never imagined it could exist. It was beautiful. He considered it as clearly as he could; considered who Martin was, and who his friends were. (Love. This was love.) Jon knew he’d never engender affection like that. He ached.
He also knew Martin would have to say goodbye to all these people again and be alone while they were born and grew up again. Jon ached more.
And what if one of them wasn’t reborn? What if they were lost? Annabelle was right. All of this was broken.
The floor was finally clean; all signs of horror and home had been swept away. Jon stayed completely still. And Sasha stood, and Tim stood, and they pulled up Martin between them, and Mike stood closer to them than he yet yet. The four of them left—and though Martin glanced around, just a brief look, it was obvious to Jon that no one saw him there. They left, and he sat there alone in an empty floor.
He wondered how invisible he could be. He wondered if he could do it to the point that he could wander around this tower without being seen even by Jonah.
It is wise to be afraid of Jonah Magnus.
He didn't doubt it. “What is this crown, anyway?” he asked his past self who’d supposedly made the thing, but got no answer. Everything Annabelle had said had been true. He knew it, and not just because Martin had trusted her completely (giving deniability, being a good friend.) This horrible thing had happened, and Jonah had believed Martin innocent.
So. So, he had a quest. He had to steal and break that crown. He couldn’t tell anyone, or ask for help. If anyone knew, Jonah Magnus might read it in their heads, and then he’d kill them.
Jon had been alone all his life. Loneliness didn’t bother him, but right now, he felt it most keen. This was so much. Such a big quest. “What am I going to do?” he said.
Silence was the only reply.
Exhaustion had its way. Jon fell asleep in the corner, curled over his knees, and slept for several hours.
#
Something tickled his ear, and he jerked away from it. A large spider dangled there, suspended from a long, thin web.
He hadn’t expected that. There hadn’t been a lot of spiders in Amherst’s house; Jon suspected the creatures Amherst made probably ate them.
This thing seemed to be staring at him.
“Hi,” he said. “Your timing is grand. If you’d been here earlier, they probably would have squashed you.”
It waved at him.
He sat up slowly and rubbed his eyes. “Did you just wave at me?”
It did it again, one of its eight legs cheerful, its eyes all looking right at him.
The questions started at once. He couldn’t help it. “Do tower-spiders do this regularly?”
The whole body turned back and forth, an emphatic no .
His heart leapt. Jon sat straight up, squinting to see it better. “So you’re special.”
Another wave.
“You’re not Annabelle’s somehow, are you?”
It put its two front legs together and waved them with great drama.
Jon rubbed his face, rubbing away the tracks of his tears. “Did she send you?”
Another leg-nod.
“Are… are you here to help me?”
Nod-nod.
He had a spider-friend. That was amazing.
Jon sniffled, wiping at his eyes. He wasn’t alone, after all. He held out his hand. The spider climbed onto it and up his arm without hesitation or fear. He could crush it so easily, yet it trusted him. Something in Jon’s heart warmed. (You aren’t alone, his past self said.) “Should… what should I do now?”
It made a sort of shrug gesture, or as much as it could with the limbs it had.
“Right. Well. Oh, shoot—what time is it?” He stood. “I’m supposed to have dinner with everyone. Will Martin be in trouble if he doesn’t have me there?”
A definitive nod.
He had a good idea where Martin would be, and headed for the stairs. (You aren’t alone. That changed it all. How could that simple fact hold so much power?) “Do you have a name?” he asked the spider.
Shrug.
“I think you should have one. Names are important.”
Shrug.
“I don’t know why. I just know they are.” He considered. “How about Arachne?”
The spider somehow gave him a dry look.
“Too on the nose, huh? Which you don’t have.” Jon giggled.
The spider sort of wriggled. He thought she might be laughing, too.
“All right, all right. How about… Annabelle Two?”
And the spider nodded.
Well, that was easy. “Okay, Annabelle Two. Here’s our job. If Jonah Magnus decides to kill me, I think he can. Right?”
Nod.
“So I need to make him happy with me.” Jon considered the people who’d raised him, how he’d learned to please them enough to leave him alone. He swallowed. “This is going to really be awful, isn’t it?”
A nod.
Jon sighed. “Fine. A little humiliation for the sake of good people isn’t so terrible, is it? No. I can do this. It’s worth it to save the world.”
The strangest feeling hit him as he walked the many steps toward Sasha’s lab. He felt like his past self was pleased with him. Jon wasn't just sitting still, paralyzed and unhappy. He was choosing. It felt good. “Thank you,” he said out loud. Too young to be stiff even after sitting on the floor for so long, he walked right out of the room and took the many, many stairs required to reach Sasha’s lab.
#
They were all talking in there when he arrived, and without a shred of guilt, he listened at the door.
Martin sniffled. “That means a lot. Thank you, Mike.”
“Sure,” said Mike. “I mean, least I can do when it’s all over.”
“We’ll all need to make an appearance at the funeral, anyway,” said Sasha. “I don’t know why he’s gotten all suspicious, but this can’t be safe. Everyone needs to be on their best behavior.”
“Fuck him,” said Tim.
“Tim!”
“No. I mean it. He made Martin cry. Fuck him.”
Martin’s laugh was weak. “Tim, it’s… it’s fine. Not the first time. I mean, I’ve known him for a long time.”
“Don’t care. Fuck him.”
“You’re funny, but be careful,” said Sasha. “He normally puts up with all that sort of thing, but today, he's clearly not. Annabelle…”
“That was betrayal, though, wasn’t it?” said Mike. “The report is she actively was plotting against him, somehow.”
“I don’t know,” said Martin softly. “I don’t know what was going on—she’d not let me know anything about it. And Jon…”
“That poor kid,” said Sasha.
“Poor weird kid,” added Mike.
“Where is he, anyway?” said Sasha.
Martin sighed. “I don’t know. Must’ve ran off after Jonah…”
“Can’t blame him,” Tim muttered. “I mean, shit.”
“But we have to find him!” said Sasha. “He’s not safe!”
“Safer than anyone else would be,” Martin said. “Nobody can see him.”
“I don’t want Jonah mad at you for any reason,” said Sasha.
“He won’t care that much,” Martin said.
“I think he will,” said Tim. “Something is weird about all of this. Maybe Jon’s his illicit love-child, or something?”
Everybody laughed.
“Nnnno,” said Mike finally.
“Yeah, that’s not… no,” said Sasha.
“Still,” said Mike. “Should find him. Not a good risk, pissing the Heart off right now.”
“You don’t have to get involved,” said Martin miserably.
“We love you, Marto,” said Tim. “Sorry. You’re stuck with us looking out for you, even if that means tracking down a runaway ghost-child who could be Jonah’s bastard kid to make sure Jonah doesn’t blow you up!”
“You guys,” said Martin, starting to cry again, or maybe laugh. “You’re the ones who keep leaving. I’m just… I’m…”
“Loved?” said Tim.
“Loved,” said Sasha.
And after a moment, very, very quietly, Mike said, “Yeah. That’s about right.”
Oh... Martin was loved.
That was so good. So important. So much, and if Jon listened to any more of this, he was going to cry, too. He opened the door.
Everybody jumped. They were seated on the floor against one of Sasha’s cabinets, all leaning into each other, a proper pile of puppies.
“Oh!” said Martin. “Oh, gods, I’m so sorry—where have you been? I… I fucking left you. Jon, I’m sorry.” He clambered to his feet.
“It’s fine,” said Jon. “I took a nap.”
They all stared at him. “Where?” said Sasha.
Jon didn’t know how to answer that, so he shrugged.
“Fuck. Napping in the house of horrors, completely unmolested,” muttered Tim. “Right. Dibs is active now. We won’t let him out of our sight again, right?”
“Definitely, not,” said Sasha. “At least not until we know he’s safe.”
“I’m safe,” said Jon. “I’m sure of it.”
“This place isn’t safe,” said Sasha. “It’s one thing if you’re with us, but…”
“Need some help watching him?” said Mike.
“That would mean sticking around even more,” said Sasha. “Won’t Oliver mind?”
Mike shrugged. “It’s different in the Mountain. Got a lot more freedom than you lot do. Besides, it’d help, right?”
“It would,” Martin said.
“Then I’ll watch him. For free.”
“You’d do that?” said Martin.
“Yes. For you.”
Martin looked… Jon didn’t have words for how Martin looked. Wet-eyed flushed, staring, needy, warm, intense—he shook it off. “We should get ready for dinner,” he said. “Sorry, Jon, but we all have to dress up for it. It’s ridiculous.”
And in a moment of wild inspiration, Jon said, “Can I bring my spider?”
They all stared at him. “What?” said Mike, finally.
Jon held out his arm. Obediently, the spider crawled out from under his hair and onto his hand. “This is Annabelle Two,” he said.
Now they all stared with mouths dropped.
“What… what is that?” said Tim.
“A spider,” said Jon.
“It’s, uh. Trained?” said Martin.
And again on inspiration, Jon lied. “Yes. I taught her in my attic. She hides in my hair.”
Mike grunted. He’d know that was nonsense; he’d dunked Jon, and flown him through the air, and a spider would not have survived. But Mike stayed quiet.
You’ll owe him for that, warned Jon’s past self, but he didn’t care.
“Annabelle Two?” said Martin, his voice tight. “That’s… that’s very nice, Jon. When did you name her?”
“Today.” That wasn’t a lie, at least.
“Time,” Sasha warned, taking off her weird goggle helmet thing.
“Fuck,” said Tim, heading for the door. “See you upstairs.”
“I’ll join you,” said Mike.
“Don’t know if that’s wise,” said Tim.
“What’s he going to do? Kill me?” Mike snorted. “And ensure Oliver Banks comes to mope around his pretty, shiny court?”
“No, you’ve got a point. I just don’t want Marto hurt anymore today.”
“So keep me safe, handsome," said Mike.
Tim snorted. “Charming,” he said, then grinned.
“So are the Heart and the Will equally balanced, then?” said Jon. “In power, or something.”
“Basically,” said Martin. “Come on, we’ve got to get dressed.”
“Then why do the textbooks never talk about this Oliver Banks?”
“Because he doesn’t care about fame, and Jonah does,” said Martin.
That fit. And, like before, it made some tiny, strange part of himself furious.
He would do that.
And then, he’d figure out what his next bite would be.

insufferable
Tumblr media
pairing : megumi fushiguro x f!reader {small angst + fluff}
warnings : reader injury, gojo being a perv
word count : 3k
a/n : thank u for requesting! i'm a sucker for enemies to lovers, so this was fun to write, i hope you enjoy !
he’s been your rival for as long as you could remember, it was always some kind of competition between the both of you. although, the feeling you both feel for each other, is it truly as simple as hatred?
Tumblr media
Insufferable.
It was the only way to describe the dark haired boy standing in front of you, a smug grin playing on his lips.
“Alright, calm down, you two,” your teacher’s voice rang over to where you were standing as he made his way over.
Gojo sighs, running a hand through his hair as he eyes the both of you.
“What did I say abo-”
“He clearly had a head start!” You huff, crossing your arms over your chest, glaring down your rival across from you.
“Are you accusing me of cheating?” He raises his eyebrows at you tauntingly.
“Anyone could tell that you ran before sensei blew the whistle!”
“Maybe you should stop focusing on me, and work on bettering your own abilities instead.” He rolls his eyes while starting to walk away, obviously getting bored of the conversation.
“You—!”
“Okay, okay, come on,” Gojo leads you away before you could tackle the boy with his back turned to you.
Megumi Fushiguro.
Your life-long rival, you guys had been by each other’s side for as long as you could remember.
Not that you wanted to remember, you hated him. And so did he.
Everything was a competition between the both of you, and although you would die before admitting it, your constant battles did improve you as a jujutsu sorcerer.
When you both found out you were going to be attending Jujutsu Tech together, you personally saw it as an opportunity to fight him even more, to prove that you were the stronger one, while Megumi-
Well, he didn’t care. He never cared about anything, anyway.
“Come on, we’re heading to the mission location,” Gojo begins to walk ahead of you, snapping you out of your thoughts.
You let out a sigh, wishing you could be in the safe confines of your room instead of fighting alongside your least favorite person in the whole world.
“Sensei, what are the curses’ grades?” You ask after the tall white-haired man, who was getting into the front passenger seat of a black car.
“They said it would be a couple Grade 3’s, nothing too much,” the older man yawns, stretching his arms over his head before cursing as they bump against the car’s roof.
“They also mentioned a special grade or something, I don’t really remember,” Gojo slams the car door shut, leaving you to roll your eyes at the man’s irresponsibility.
About to make your way to the car as well, you stumble as a force pushed you from behind, turning around as you get ready to attack whoever was-
“Try not to die to a couple Grade 3’s, alright?” Megumi smirks down at your fuming expression, before making his way to the car.
“I mean, I know they can be quite a hassle for you, but take your time.”
Inhaling sharply, you massage your temples with one hand, trying to suppress your frustration and holding back from tackling the boy to the ground.
“He’s so immature.” Nobara, one of your closest friends at Jujutsu Tech, comes up to you, rolling her eyes at the boy.
“Ignore him, let’s have some meat buns when we get back.” She sends you a wink before walking towards the car, to which you respond with a laugh.
There will be meat buns waiting when I get back, you thought to yourself, licking your lips unconsciously. It will be worth it, snuggling up back in your fluffy blankets, binging your newest favorite show that was airing today-
“You coming or not?” A voice breaks you from your daydream, snapping your head up.
“Ah, are you scared? Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.” Megumi smiles at you mockingly, chuckling as he shoves his hands into his pockets and entering the car in the back seats.
Ah.
This was going to be a long day.
-
“We’re here,” Gojo announces, unlocking the car door to get out.
You all exit the car, stretching as you take note of your surroundings.
The mission assigned this time was to eliminate a couple curses who had sneaked their way into an elementary school. The students were still inside, so you had to be extra careful with fighting.
“Well then, let’s head in.”
Starting to make your way toward the school entrance, a small groan from the side halts you all in your tracks.
A green, slimy creature emerges from the bushes, crawling on its legs as it stares up at all of you.
It leaps forward suddenly, lunging at you, as you raise your sword in time to block it, slicing it in half in one swift motion.
It lets out a final groan as it drops to the ground, melting into a green blob.
“Not too bad, you actually killed it.” Megumi raises an eyebrow in amusement as you clean your sword of any of its remains.
“Thanks for the compliment.” You snarl at him sarcastically, drawing another sigh from Gojo.
You all continue making your way to the school’s front doors, when suddenly your teacher holds an arm out, stopping all of you.
“Shh, listen.”
There was a quiet voice- no, many voices coming from down the hallway of the school. The building was filled with black smoke, restricting your views of where the sounds were coming from.
It sounded as if the many voices were chanting a curse or spell of some sort, and you all knew instantly.
This couldn’t be the doings of a grade 3.
It had to be a special curse.
Gojo steps forward slowly, entering the black smoke as he checks the left hallway, before returning and nodding to you that it was safe.
You nod, slowly making your way into the school as well, turning to check the right hallway.
The black smoke almost made it hard to breathe, you trying your best to swat away any smoke making your eyes tear up.
The chanting became louder as you entered the hallway, and you saw a figure standing in the middle.
Your breath catches in your throat, ready to turn and tell Gojo what you saw, but could you really describe what it was?
It stood at least two feet above you, with gray skin mixed with red blotches here and there and multiple arms hanging by its side. Horns and unidentifiable liquids stuck to its skin, with its mouth hanging open. It had the sharpest teeth you’d ever seen on a curse- no, you’d ever seen in your life- and drool pooled at the corners of its lips, if you could even call them lips, before dripping down its chin, staining the marble floor.
It continued to chant its spell, however it sounded as if the voices were in your head, in your eardrums, echoing through your brain.
You could hear your name being called from behind you, probably Gojo, but the chants were getting louder, louder, and louder until the special grade was standing right before you, its tall figure looming over you.
Snap out of it, you thought to yourself, trying to shake its voice out of your head, commanding your legs to move. To turn back. To run.
Finally you felt your legs listening to you, and you turned around and ran. Ignoring the pattering footsteps of the creature following close behind you, you ran as fast as you could.
Finally, you could see the light at the entrance, where you all had been before, and you could almost see their faces, until-
“Y/N—!”
A sharp pain shot through your stomach.
Ah, that voice.
The voice of your rival who had been competing with you, fighting with you, for your whole life.
It was like it all happened in slow motion, like in the movies.
Megumi and the others stood before you, with a horrified expression as their eyes travelled down, down to your stomach.
You followed their gaze, a dark crimson stain beginning to seep through your uniform, a sharp horn stabbed from the back, right through your body.
Ah, this was it. That jerk was right, huh? I am weak after all.
At that moment, your body went limp. All feelings left your limbs, leaving you to free fall forward, eyes closing as you begin to lose consciousness.
But not before you felt a pair of arms wrap around you, stopping you from the impact.
“Y/N! Wake up, come on, wake up—!”
Why do you keep shouting? You’re so loud, be quiet.
“You can’t do this, wake up— please—“
I told you to be quiet, geez, let me sleep already.
And the last crumb of consciousness left your body.
-
A horrible thumping pain in your head. Hushed voices from next to you. Fingers entangled with yours.
Wait- fingers?
It had never been so hard to open your eyes, wincing as a bright light from above hits you directly.
Taking a moment to adjust, you finally looked around your surroundings.
It seemed as if you were in a hospital room, long tubes connected to your arms, hands, legs, making it hard for you to move at all.
You notice a doctor and Gojo speaking by the door, but what shocked you was the sleeping boy by your bed.
The sunlight seeping through the window shines on his slender face perfectly, dark strands of hair framing his sleeping face, one you could’ve almost teased him for until you notice his hands. Your hands.
His fingers entangled with yours by your side, the warmth from his palm radiating through yours as the rise and fall from his breathing caused his hands to move slightly every time.
You wished you could snap a picture of this right now, but the comforting feeling of his hands against yours made you not want to move an inch.
“Ah, you’re awake, Y/N,” You recognized your teacher’s voice as he makes his way over to your bed with a relieved smile.
You feel the boy wake up with a jolt, eyes blinking to focus themselves, before settling on yours and widening.
It was only then that he became aware of your entangled hands, quickly pulling away and coughing to cover the slight pink spreading across his cheeks.
“How are you feeling?” The doctor next to Gojo asks, holding a clipboard in his hands.
“Just a bit sore in my ribs, but nothing too much.” Megumi glances in your direction, and you would’ve thought it was out of concern before mentally slapping yourself at the absurdity of it.
“Alright, we’ll need to keep you here for a few weeks,” the doctor says, noting something on his clipboard. “I’ll be right back, we still need to give you a check-up.”
He leaves the room, and Gojo takes a seat on the other side of your bed, across from Megumi.
“I’m glad you’re alright, Y/N,” he sighs, before leaning back in his chair, crossing his arms behind his head.
“Good thing you were brought back in time, doc says that any longer and the injury would’ve been more severe.”
You nod, facing your teacher, “Thank you sensei, I should’ve been more careful.”
He shakes his head, “It was a special grade, my fault for not notifying you all earlier.”
A grin spreads across his face, leaning forward slowly in his seat.
“But I’m not the one you should be thanking.” He nods his head slightly to your left, making you turn to see a coughing Megumi, who suddenly thought his shoes were the most interesting things in the world.
Gojo chuckles, patting your shoulder as he gets up to leave.
“I’ll leave you two alone, Megumi take care of her, alright?”
Even behind the blindfold, you could sense that he was sending a wink your way.
The boy only grumbles in response, fiddling with his hands nervously.
You stare at him, before bursting out in laughter.
His head shoots up, furrowing his eyebrows as he looks at you still laughing.
“What’s with that gloomy look? Don’t tell me…”
You tilt your head at him, a smirk spreading across your face.
“Aww, are you worried about me, ‘gumi?”
The use of the nickname you made for him makes him scoff, turning away from you.
“As if. Just wondering about how stupid you were to get yourself hurt.”
He bites his lips for a moment, as if pondering his next words.
“And stop laughing so hard, what—”
Megumi stops and looks away.
“—what if your wound opens again?” He murmurs quietly, but you managed to catch it.
Your eyebrows raise in surprise, before chuckling at him teasingly, “So you are worried about me, liar.”
“Am not!”
“You totally are.”
“Keep lying to yourself.”
With a sigh, you close your eyes, refusing to argue with the boy any longer.
“By the way, what did sensei mean before? That you were the one I should be thanking?”
You open your eyes, waiting for his answer.
His eyes widen the slightest bit, before looking away once again.
“...s’nothing, don’t worry about it.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You raise your eyebrows at him, confused.
He shakes his head, showing that he wasn’t going to answer.
Groaning, you roll your eyes at his childish behavior, “God- you’re so infuriating sometimes, why—”
“When you fainted, I carried you all the way to the hospital, okay?! On my own damn legs, I ran all the way here, I don’t know why I did, but I did so stop asking—!”
Megumi shouts, panting as he finishes talking with an unreadable look in his eyes.
You gape at him slightly, still trying to register his words.
“You...carried me here? Why didn’t you just take the car?”
He scoffs, “The car is way too slow, I would be faster. Plus, your injury would’ve gotten worse so you should thank me.”
He eyes you, searching for any emotions on your face, but all you felt was confusion at the moment.
A few beats of silence pass, and Megumi sighs, running a hand through his hair.
“Well? At least say something.” He mumbles, shifting his feet on the floor.
You just look at him, not believing what he said, before laughing softly.
“Man, ‘gumi, if I didn’t know better, I would’ve thought you liked me so much that you were scared that I would die.”
You teased him, expecting a scoff or an insult thrown back of some sort, but he just rolls his bottom teeth in between his teeth, not making eye contact.
“...so what if I do?” He finally says, so softly that you wouldn’t have heard if he wasn’t so close to you.
Wait, why was he so close to you—
The distance between you two closed as he leaned forward to meet your lips with his. The kiss was slow, inexperienced, but honest and passionate.
Your eyes widened in shock, while his were screwed tight, afraid to open and meet yours.
A contrast to his appearance and personality, his lips were soft, fitting snugly against yours, the taste of him sweet, like cherries.
After a few seconds, he pulls away hesitantly, sitting back down in the chair.
The tension was so thick in the room, not even a knife could cut through it.
It was awkward for a few beats before he spoke.
“I-uh, sorry, I don’t know why I did that,” he rubs the back of his neck, a heavy pink dusting his cheeks.
“It..it’s fine, it was nice,” you spoke softly, almost whispering.
His head shot up, facing you. “You liked it?”
You bit the inside of your cheeks, before nodding, slowly meeting his gaze.
“Thank you, for saving me.”
A small smile spreads across his lips. Not a teasing one he would use when he was making fun of you, not a fake one, no. This was different.
Megumi was genuinely smiling at you like you were the most amazing thing he’s ever seen before.
“No problem,” he speaks, before slowly reaching for your hand.
Watching you with a careful gaze for any signs of discomfort, he intertwines his fingers with yours, giving it a small squeeze.
“... I was scared, you know?” He sighs, eyes never leaving your face.
“Scared that… I would lose the one person I care about.” You flush at his words.
“I know, I treat you like you’re below me all the time, like you’re weak, but I-“ He clears his throat, not wanting to mess this up. He only had one chance after all.
“-I do care about you, and I get happy whenever we fight against each other, or with each other. I was scared that- that I would lose the most important person in my life.”
You couldn’t stop the smile spreading across your face, one part of you wanting to tease him like usual, but the other part of you, wanted to do something else.
You tug on his hand that was still holding yours, making him lean forward as you met his lips halfway.
The kiss was a little longer this time, you didn’t have to use words to convey your feelings. He knew. And you knew, too.
Pulling away at last, you lightly flicked his forehead, causing him to pout and rub the sore spot.
You giggle, looking down at your intertwined hands.
“I care about you too, Megumi. A lot. I always have.”
You smile.
“And I always will.”
He smiles widely, leaning forward once again until you hear muffled voices on the other side of the door.
“Do you think they’re having s-”
“Sensei! Stop being so loud, they might hear you—“
The door suddenly slams open with Nobara and Gojo tumbling onto the floor.
Silence.
Laughing awkwardly, they finally stand up, nudging the other to speak.
“I- she- uh, we- woah—!” Gojo gasps dramatically at the sight of your hands together.
“So you were having s-”
Both of you flush at the same time, shouting at him.
“We weren’t—!”
You all burst out laughing, feeling Megumi squeeze your hand softly.
Gosh, making you feel butterflies in your stomach like this?
Megumi Fushiguro was truly insufferable.

Tumblr media
Your Spotify list of redundant tracks flowed through the apartment as you sat typing at your small desk in the corner of the front room. The boxy space was as oppressive as any office space, another reason for your voluntary work at the gallery. Vanessa let you in the studio to paint. Without the privilege, you wouldn’t have the space for your easel.
You stretched your fingers and rubbed your eyes. You felt dizzy from staring at the screen, even with night mode on. The work was monotonous and made you restless. You wanted a pencil or brush in hand, a canvas before you, not this blaring laptop. You yawned and took a sip of your lukewarm water.
Your phone vibrated from across the room and you checked the time. Your lunch started soon but no one was really keeping track. As long as you got your assignments done, it didn’t matter when you chewed on toast and disassociated.
You got up and grabbed your phone from the corner table and leaned against the arm of the couch. You remembered how Marcus woke up there and grumbled as he lifted his head in pain. You couldn’t really feel bad for him going into work hungover. He embarrassed you and it didn’t quite sink in until after Clark left you to stare down at your drunk boyfriend.
An unknown number showed on your screen and you answered tentatively, ready to hang up at the first sales pitch. Your name came from the speaker and you recognized the deep voice in an instant. It took you back to the night before and the canvas hung on the wall.
“I hope I’m not disturbing you,” Clark said, “I only just had the paintings hung and I thought… well, I thought you might like to come see them in their new home.”
“Um…” you chewed your thumb, uncertain how to respond.
“Sorry, I know I can be a bit… to the point,” he laughed at himself, “how are you?”
“I’m good, just… taking a break.”
“You working?”
“Yeah, but I work from home,” you said as you touched the side of your neck, “I could… I could come see them but it might be a while before--”
“When are you finished work?” he asked bluntly.
“Four but I… maybe another day.”
“I don’t mean to be pushy but I did have something else to speak with you about,” he said, “a commission, like I mentioned.”
“Oh?”
“I kinda wanna get it started sooner than later, it will probably be pretty time-consuming,” he explained and you heard a clink and a soft sip, “I don’t wanna get into details on the phone but I promise, you will be compensated nicely.”
“You can’t wait until tomorrow?” you wondered.
“I suppose I can but it’d have to be during the day,” he responded, “why don’t you take some time to figure it out and get back to me by two? You can text me through this number.”
“Erm, sure,” you said uneasily, “I’m sorry, it’s just… very sudden, I don’t--”
“You can bring the boyfriend,” he said casually, “if you like.”
“He won’t be… home,” you said carefully, “I’ll let you know. Thank you.”
“I look forward to hearing from you,” he replied, “have a good day.”
“You, too,” you said and the line died.
You put your phone down and took a moment. Good things rarely happened to you. You struggled so long it was hard to think that might change. The skeptic in you told you there was something behind it all. That it couldn’t possibly be your art.
You went back to your computer and sighed as you waved away the screensaver with your mouse. The blinking cursor made you want to believe it was your big break.
🎨
You texted Clark at one and at four, you were in an Uber. Marcus drove his car to work and you stuck to buses and the underground when you could. The address was at least an hour out, the house among those estates on the edge of the city reserved for the upper echelon. You’d only ever seen the sprawling yards on your way to the next town.
When the car finally turned up the drive and you passed beyond a low brick wall, you felt entirely out of your depth. You tipped the Uber but didn’t feel too bad with the check from Vanessa sitting soundly in your account. You clutched the strap of your bag and walked along the curve of the brick work towards the stairs.
“Hey,” you stopped as Clark called to you, your ankle still tender from the night before.
You glanced over as he came out of the large garage and peeled off a pair of leather gloves. He smiled as he tucked them into his jacket pocket. You watched him and played with the clasp on your bag.
“Just got back from a drive,” he said, “I almost got carried away. I’m glad you made it.”
“Yeah, no problem,” you replied.
“Well, come on, let me show you around,” he waved behind you towards the front doors, “we’ll go on a tour and then we can talk details.”
“Wow,” you uttered mindlessly as you climbed the stairs to the door but kept the weight on your uninjured ankle, “this place is huge.”
“My contractor went a little crazy,” he scoffed, “but I can’t complain.”
He led you through the doors and directed you to the left. In the front room, your work was hung along the opposite wall, arranged in a way that drew the eye to them. You stepped closer and peered up at your work with a hint of awe. They looked even better in a place like that.
“I had my interior designer make the final call on where to hang them,” he explained, “I hope you don’t mind, I gave her your details. She said she had clients who might be interested in your work.”
“Really?” you breathed, “that’s… too nice.”
“Oh yeah? One day, you’ll be sick of rich pricks like me,” he grinned, “I’ll show you the pool, that’s usually the main attraction.”
“Sounds good,” you said as you followed but he paused and watched your stunted gait.
“I forgot, we can go slow,” he offered, “how’s the ankle?”
“I’ll make do,” you affirmed as you neared him, “just need to get my steps in.”
🎨
As you finished the tour of the second floor, you slowed along the long hall and admired the work of artists you only ever saw in museums. You couldn’t help but be enamoured by the historic blots of paint. You almost forgot where you were as you leaned in to read the initials beneath the pastel flowers.
“So,” Clark’s voice brought you back, you almost blanked him out entirely in your mind, “I think you might have noticed the empty space above the fireplace in the front room. I was hoping you could fill it.”
“Oh?” you looked at him and smiled nervously, “did you have something in mind? A landscape or--”
“Well, your portraits are great. I like the old world style. I was hoping you might do one of… me,” he suggested, “I know, it’s vain but why not?”
“I mean, yeah, I could do that,” you said.
“I’ll pay hourly plus materials,” he continued, “three hundred an hour.”
You almost choked at the number. You blinked and swallowed through your surprise.
“Even a small portrait would take at least twelve hours,” you warned, “are you sure?”
“I know it’s a lot of time for you, so… I was thinking, if you have to miss work, I’ll factor it into your rate. I would really like to get the project started as soon as we can,” he put his hand on his hip as he looked down at you, “the only thing I need from you is a list of materials. I’ll have them waiting for you here.”
“Here?”
“Well, yeah, I figure it makes most sense,” he turned his palm out.
“Hmm, sure, I prefer my own brushes but… you know I can just buy the stuff myself--”
“Ah, no, I want it to be perfect. You send me a list and I’ll have my assistant go out and get it all ready,” he assured, “How does Sunday sound?”
“Sunday?” you blanched. That was two days away.
“Like I said, Marcus is more than welcome to come with you,” he offered, “I’d hate to keep you from him too long.”
“I guess Sunday works,” you squeaked, “I’ll talk to Marcus.”
“Great,” he said coolly, “well, that’s business. How about a drink to seal the deal?”
“I don’t know, I should probably get back,” you fiddled with your bag against your hip.
“One drink won’t hurt,” he said, “go on, call the boyfriend and let him know you won’t be much longer.”
“I… thanks,” you murmured.
“You’re humble for an artist,” he joked as he sidled by you, “once you grow an ego, you’ll be unstoppable.” He neared the stairs as you turned to watch him, “I’ll be at the bar, waiting. You like gin?”
“Sure,” you answered as you pulled out your phone, “I’ll see you down there.”
🎨
When you told Marcus about your new side gig, he was even more excited than you. You were anxious and slightly hesitant. You hated to jump in feet first and risk losing more than a few tubes of paint. What if the work wasn’t good enough?
Marcus was more than willing to come with you when you told him about the size of the place. He knew by the area that it was extravagant. You sat in the passenger seat with the most expensive bottle of wine you’d ever bought cradled between your legs. You hated to show up empty handed after all of Clark’s generosity.
Marcus got lost and went down the wrong driveway before you righted your course. As you drove up, you were once more overcome from the rich rosebuds and sparkling fountain at the centre of the mosaic. You gripped the neck of the bottle and got out as Marcus whistled in awe.
“You weren’t kidding. This place is fucking nuts,” he swore, “I should’ve worn the tux from my brother’s wedding.”
“Please, Marcus,” you rolled your eyes, “let’s both try not to break anything.”
“You’re the clumsy one,” he chirped, “shit, you’re so lucky. You get to hang out here and paint all day? God, I wish I had an ounce of artistic talent. I’d trade it for code in a minute.”
You climbed the steps and clanged the large knocker on the right door. You waited a moment before an answer came and Clark appeared on the other side and beckoned you inside. He smiled as he shook Marcus’ hand.
“Thanks for joining us,” he said, “I would’ve felt awful stealing your girlfriend on the weekend like this.”
“Are you kidding me? She said you had a pool and I snuck the swim shorts into the backseat,” Marcus chuckled and you nudged him with your elbow.
“See?” Clark arched a brow, “the pool is always the seller.”
“Here,” you said as you held out the bottle of red, “for everything you’ve done and welcoming us into your home.”
“Ohhh,” he took the bottle and looked over the label, “I got a spot for this right behind the bar. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, I brought my brushes,” you patted the canvas bag on your shoulder.
“Mmm, yeah, well, I’ll just put this away and we’ll give Marcus the grand tour. Then I’ll get you situated,” he assured and rushed off.
He returned and pointed Marcus through to the front room, “you’ll see, just over here,” he directed him to your paintings.
“Oh, wow, babe,” Marcus marveled at the hung portraits, “you really did it.”
You smiled bashfully and Clark peeked over at you and winked. You squirmed as your cheeks burned and you turned away as he beckoned Marcus past the mantle.
“It’s a big place,” Clark said, “I’d like to get you started before noon.”
Clark led you along the same path as days before and slowed as you came back to the top of the stairs. He turned back and clapped his hands together.
“Marcus, if you wanna hop in the pool, we’re gonna start just in there,” he pointed to the one door you hadn’t looked through, “that’s the studio.”
“What about you?” Marcus asked.
“Well, I’ll be a part of the process so I’m afraid I will be just as busy but if you need anything, Nina, she has a crooked nose and mean mouth but don’t let her fool you, she’ll get you whatever you need,” he said, “just don’t track in water from the pool or she’ll string you up.”
“Oh, well, that doesn’t sound too bad. Some alone time in the sun and a pool,” Marcus grinned, “I really couldn’t ask for anything else… except you, babe.”
“Sure,” you scoffed, “go, have fun.”
Marcus kissed you quickly and thanked Clark again before he excitedly barreled down the steps. You scratched your neck as you looked back to your host, and you guessed, your new boss.
“I’m sorry about him. He can be such a kid sometimes,” you said.
“Nah, it’s fine,” he waved it off, “so, you ready to see your workspace? I kinda wanted it to be a surprise. Also, a bit last minute so it’s not perfect… yet.”
“Uh, yeah,” you answered, “can’t wait.”
He motioned you over to the tall dusty rose doors and hooked his fingers in the slotted handles. He slid them open and revealed an airy room with a tall ceiling and long windows. An easel stood facing the sun streaked glass, an immense canvas bigger than yourself, bigger than him, propped up on it. There was a ladder nearby and the table was set with a rainbow of paints and a large pallet.
Your lips parted as you neared the easel and stared up at the canvas, “you were right, it’s gonna be a lot of work.”
“I hope it’s not too much,” he said, “but you name your price. We’ll make it work.”
“No, no, I think for what you’re paying, I’ll do just fine,” you put your bag down daintily on the table, “so, uh, a portrait, I guess that means…”
Your voice trailed off as he went to the upholstered chair across the room, at an angle so you could see him from your vantage. Behind it, hung a velvet curtain to add to the scene and a bust on a pedestal. It felt surreal, like a dream.
You turned and pulled out the brushes, “I think you’ll get more tired than me, just sitting there.”
“I’ll make it through,” he assured as he sat, “is there anyway you’d like me to sit? Chin up, or…”
“Hmmm,” you turned to look at him, “I think… if you just put your shoulders back and… did you want a profile or--”
“I was thinking front-facing,” he stared at you steadily, unflinching as his eyes stuck to you, “just like this.”
“Perfect,” you said nervously and looked back to the table.
There was water to rinse your brushes, rags, pencils, blending sticks; everything you needed and more. You took a pencil from the bunch and pulled over the ladder. You climbed up and looked over at Clark as he sat stoic and still. He looked picturesque in real life, you expected paint would only lend to his figure.
His eyes met yours and you turned to start tracing the basic shapes onto the canvas. You had to stop and steady your hand as you did. His gaze made it hard not to tremble.

HOT DAY AND A TIRED MAN
This fic is dedicated to @lovelyladyraven for being my first ever paid commission.
Shouta Aizawa x fem reader
Tw:dangerous situation, breeding, OVERSTIMULATION
Word count: 3.5k
This was not how you had planned to spend your day. Your boss had decided that the roof needed to be cleaned on the second hottest day this summer! Of course you were the only one who had just finished up their task so he sent you to do it by yourself with a promise of sending the next available person up to switch with you soon. Instead you had spent two hours cleaning up dirt and shining the vents on a roof that no one but maintenance workers ever set foot on! Once you had seen how much time had passed you went to the door with every intention of stomping down the stairs and clocking out, not willing to do overtime just to clean a roof. But the knob wouldn't turn no matter how hard you pulled. You banged on the door a few times only to realize that one of the idiots that you work with had locked the door. Quickly you took out your phone and called the store phone no answer, then your boss's phone no answer, then you called the two other coworkers who had been working with you today. Not a single person answered you! You went over to the side of the building that looked over the parking lot seeing that all their cars were already gone from their usual spots. The bastards had left for the day and left you locked on the roof with no way to go home or even get water. You tried for another 30 minutes to reach your boss and coworkers only for them to start rejecting your calls. They did this on purpose. You went and sat in the shade of the roof door access and took a few calming breaths. You knew that they weren't going to come back until tomorrow and you also knew that they probably expected you to sit up here and cry waiting till morning for them to come and "save" you. So instead you looked up the number for the local fire department. Once someone picked up you heard a deep gravelly voice through the speaker.
"Fire station 6 what can I help you with?"
The man seemed tired and kind of put out but instead of apologizing for bothering him like your brain was screaming at you to do, you cleared your throat and spoke. You gave him a detailed rundown of your situation and explained that you would have called the emergency line first except your boss's wife worked the police directory and if he was locking you on the roof like this you were afraid that his wife would just not send anyone to help you. It was a small town and things like that were constantly looked over as long as you knew the right people. He hummed in agreement.
" That's sad but true. I know your boss and his wife well enough that you're probably 100 percent right about what they would do and how they would cover this up. They've done it before. Me and a few guys will be there in about 20 minutes to come get you down. Just keep calm and do your best to stay out of the sun until then we don't need you getting any more dehydrated than you already are."
He gave a quick goodbye and hung up. You breathed a sigh of relief knowing that you had chosen correctly when you called the fire station. You sat in the shade and tried to put a face to the voice of the tired firefighter who would be coming to free you from your rooftop prison. Like a fool you had never asked his name. As you thought about it you started to get a bit lightheaded. It had definitely been too long since you had any water. The heat was starting to get to you now that your adrenaline had stopped pumping so hard. With nothing else to do you layed down as much in the shade as you could and did a breathing exercise. During your exercise you must have blacked out because the next thing you knew you were being carried down the stairs in a set of strong arms.
The person carrying you was speaking to you but you couldn't make out what they were saying over the fog that was covering your brain. You knew the sound of that voice though. It was the tired firefighter but he sounded a whole lot less tired and a whole lot more angry. You really hoped he wasn't angry at you. Maybe you were too heavy and he was annoyed at having to lug you down the stairs. With a weak hand you reached up maybe to apologize somehow, but ended up cupping his cheek. His stubble felt funny in your already funny feeling hand. He stopped walking at the feeling of your hand on his face. You still couldn't open your eyes so instead you mumbled a garbled sorry and proceeded to pass back out going limp. The last thing you heard was the tired firefighter yelling at someone, maybe you?
You woke up again this time to the feeling of something plastic on your face. Opening your eyes was still a bit too much for you so you listened and tried to figure out what was going on. You vaguely remember the tired voice you had spoken to before you felt light headed and the feeling of being carried. As you listened you could make out the sounds of machines. Slowly you took stock of your body. You were sore and kinda warm but you could move a little bit. You breathed deeply, finally realizing that the plastic was an oxygen tube. You were definitely in the hospital then. After a few more minutes your eyes were in good enough condition that you opened them to look around the room. When you did you saw someone slumped in the chair in the corner. This was incredibly strange since you had no family in this town. Doing your best you cleared your throat preparing to ask who they were. At your sound the person's head shot up, eyes wide.
It was a man with tired eyes and long black hair that was on the scruffy side; it easily matched the stubble of a beard on his chin and cheeks. He stood up definitely tall enough to tower over you even when you were standing up yourself. The man walked to your bedside and took a deep breath before speaking.
"It's good to see you awake little one. I was beginning to think you weren't going to wake up. I'm the firefighter you spoke to asking for help when you were on the roof. I have a lot to explain to you but I'm gonna call the doctor in and have them look you over before anything else."
He called out into the hall after that and a doctor and a nurse bustled into the room within minutes. Your throat was too dry to answer their questions so you stuck to little nods and head shakes as they began to check your vitals and adjust your iv drip. Once they were sure you were stable enough you were once again left with your savior and no voice to thank him with. He came closer and pulled the chair along with him to settle in for your conversation.
"So you've been out of it for about 3 days. You got sunstroke while you were on the roof and your boss had double locked the door to get in and the door to the roof which slowed us down in getting to you. Your boss and his wife and your 2 coworkers have all been arrested. It was your boss's idea though apparently he kept hitting on you but you didn't give him the time of day so he wanted to teach you a lesson. His wife had your name flagged so that if you had called for help it would have given a dispatcher a notification to ignore you as a false reporter. His wife found out about his interest in you and was planning on making sure you were stuck on that roof all night. Your coworkers just went along with it because they didn't want to deal with your boss's anger."
Hearing all this pissed you off beyond belief. They could have killed you all because you would be a man's mistress and the man's wife would rather hurt someone than confront her husband. He looked at your face and patted your knee knowing there was nothing he could say that would make you feel any better about this. You looked up at him and grabbed his hand and brought it to your forehead, touching his knuckles there before placing a kiss on them. You were kind of happy that you couldn't really talk just yet because the blush on this man's cheeks was well worth the dry throat. He poured you a cup of water and handed it to you. You gave him a small smile and drank it gratefully.
Eventually you could speak some and the two of you formally introduced yourselves. He was Shouta Aizawa, the fire station chief and local fire safety instructor for this area. He hadn't felt right leaving you alone after he had gotten you off the roof and found that you lived alone in this town. He came off very blunt and serious but you could see his deep kindness in his actions. The doctors came back in, cutting your conversation short and making Shouta go back to his spot in the corner. After a few more checks the doctors cleared you to go home the following day as long as you had someone to watch over you for the next three days till your follow up appointment was. You frowned cause you did have any close friends who could do that for you. As you pondered over it you heard Shouta's voice over the doctor's.
"If you don't have a problem I can have you stay over in the guestroom at my house. I was already on a temp leave due to watching over you here so it wouldn't be much different with you at my house."
This man with a deep whiskey voice truly had a heart of gold. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth you readily agreed. After you had been up a few more hours and had a little bit to eat, Shouta left with the promise of a freshly cleaned room waiting for you tomorrow. You fell asleep that night feeling more cared for than you ever truly had. You woke up again slightly disoriented and thirsty but in much better condition than you had been the day prior. It was early so you took your time shaking the numbness out of your limbs and getting back your bearings. The nurse came in fussing about you standing with calling anyone to be a catcher for you. She stopped fussing though when she realized that you were indeed stable enough to walk to the bathroom alone.
Shouta had called the nurses station around 10 to let them know he'd be there by 12. With a few puppy dog looks you had a shower chair and an orderly who helped wash your hair and walk you back to bed. They had given you some hospital pajamas that you happily wore instead of the ugly gowns you had woken up in. You were clean and relaxed by the time Shouta had arrived to sign you out of the hospital. A nurse came around with a wheelchair and wheeled you down to the exit while the car was brought around. Shouta opened the door for the backseat but instead of giving you a hand to climb in he leaned down and scooped you out of the chair. Once you had been sat comfortably on the seat he shut the door leaving you with a moment to appreciate just how strong his arms were.
The drive to Shouta's home was relatively quick as is the way of small towns. His house was nice and seemed to be a cozy ranch style. After pulling into the garage you tried to get out yourself only to be caught up against a hard chest as your legs gave out the moment they were made to take your full weight. You looked up to see an exasperated glare. Part of your brain filled with chastised thoughts as the other filled with dirty thoughts. You really had to be better behaved when It came to your savior and benefactor but with him being so sinfully attractive it was kinda hard to do. Once again you were carried by the tired man this time into his home and deposited on the lone couch in his living room. He sat on his coffee table and faced you with a sigh.
"You're really gonna have to rely on me for a few days brat. Your body is trying to heal and you pushing it as you just did isn't doing the process any favors."
You sighed and agreed with him. After a short conversation about a few things you might need from the store and checking about any food allergies he got ready and  headed to the store. You sat alone watching tv before clicking into his YouTube app to see what he watched most. A loud laugh burst from your chest as you realized that most of his watch history was full of cat videos and a few interviews with a local late night radio host. You watched the radio hosts videos thoroughly entertained by his boisterous personality. The next thing you knew you were being shaken awake by Shouta having fallen asleep with videos still playing on the tv. He helped you up and walked you to the bathroom and waited outside before scooping you up yet again. He was making it so damn hard not to think dirty thoughts when he kept carrying you around as if you were a small animal or something. Like sir the butterflies are in the stomach now but they will quickly fly south if you keep being so quietly sexy. A few hours later you were lying in bed when your thoughts finally got the best of you and had you touching your pussy as images of Shouta glaring down at you with his arms crossed showed behind your eyelids.
You had no idea how loud you were being as you rubbed your clit harshly, trying to get to the finish line. As you came you choked out his name. While you panted and came down from your high Shouta made his way back to his room quietly. He leaned back against his door and made a call before laying in his bed to jerk his very hard, very neglected cock. His brain kept replaying the sounds you made, the way you choked out his name as you came, how a satisfied little smile curled on your lips after you reached the finish line. He came with a growl, satisfied but not. He was definitely going to end up in trouble by the end of the week and he couldn't find it in himself to care. The following two days followed the same pattern, spending the day together and spending the night getting off to thoughts of the other in separate rooms. Though you were surprised to find that Shouta regularly walked around the house in nothing but sweatpants holding a full mug of coffee. On the fourth day you had become well enough to no longer need to be carried or walked everywhere. You were a little confused by Shouta's attitude as he had been glaring at the space above your head for most of the day. Finally tired of him doing this, you confronted him about it. You were not expecting his answer in the slightest.
"I've spent the last three nights hearing you play with your pussy while calling my name, I'm hard enough to hammer nails and I can't get out any over this energy cause I'm supposed to be watching out for you. All I wanna do is fuck you till you lose your mind. me glaring above your head has been me doing my best not to seduce you like an asshole."
He said everything in such a deadpan manner that you couldn't help but laugh. Once you caught your breath you grinned at him and pulled your shirt off over your head. Sitting on his couch with your tits hanging free and your nipples hardening in the cool air you proceeded to play with them. You were immediately picked up and taken to his room before being dropped on the bed. Never let it be said that the tired man couldn't move fast as you were stripped of your remaining clothes before he stripped himself bare. He pulled you to the edge of his bed by your ankles and dropped to his knees, a fierce smile on his lips.
"Been wanting to taste this bratty pussy for days. Bet it's as sweet as it looks."
His first lick was long. From your hole all the way over your clit. The squeak you let out at the feeling only made him more hungry. He spent what felt like an endless amount of time licking and thrusting his tongue as deep into your pussy as he could. By the time he finally gave your clit some much needed attention his chin was covered in pussy juice and your hole was fluttering as if it was seeking to be filled. Shouta teased you with a few small licks over your clit, making you whine and beg him to give you more. His arms wrapped around your thighs as he locked eyes with you and sucked your clit into his mouth. He sucked hard making you scream and thrash wildly. Your hands were buried in his hair as you squirted into his mouth. Your hips only stayed on the bed because of his strong arms keeping you in place. When he finally released your clit pussy juice was steadily leaking from your still twitching hole.
"Oh did I break you already? You were so bold before and now you're just a mess. Think you can take my cock or do you want me to tuck you in for a nap."
The shit eating grin on his face was enough for you to pull his hair and glare at him. He sat up and shoved your wrists above your head to hold in one of his large hands. Slowly he worked his fat dripping cock into your almost too tight pussy. You whined and moaned his name as he finally bottomed out hitting your back wall. He stretched you more than you ever had been before but it was so damn good. Shouta started slow, one hand gripping your thigh as he ignored your demands for him to speed up.
"You're gonna take what I give you like a good girl or I'll just pull out and cum all over you right now."
That shut you up except for the constant stream of moans that left your throat. Just as you were finally getting used to being split by such a thick cock he changed his rhythm. Fast pounding thrusts that knocked the breath from your lungs were nearly constant. You didn't have enough breath to scream so you sobbed. Your half words were incoherent except for "sho please." Shouta leaned down and whispered in your ear as his thrusts once again spread up. He bit your ear lobe before making you lose your mind.
"Such a tight little hole. I can't believe I had the strength to ignore it for three days. I could have at least eaten it while you laid back and rested. God I'm gonna have you for breakfast tomorrow."
The utter heat in his words threw you over the edge making you cum so hard you began to shake. He growled as your pussy clenched down on him. Shouta sunk his teeth into the pillow by your head before shoving his cock against your cervix and shooting his cum against it. As soon as he finished cuming he started to thrust again. No slow start this time, just hard pounding thrusts that made you wail in pleasure. It didn't take long for you to cum again but Shouta lasted longer this time entirely fucking his cum out of you before finally cuming inside again just as deep as the first time.
He pulled out and laid down next to you before pulling you on to his chest. You both panted trying to breathe like normal human beings again. Right as your breathing evened out you heard a voice from the doorway. And looked up to see the blonde radio host trailing his eyes over the two of you.
"I told you you wouldn't make it till I got home sho."

Heart Skips a Beat - Part 2
Natasha Romanoff x Reader

Word Count: 1837
Part 1

When Natasha sees your eyes close, she finally comes back to her senses. She squirms away from Steve, crawling under an ambulance and making her way towards you. She ignores Steve telling her to stay put and doesn’t hear Clint telling police officers the direction the bullets came from. All she can think about is bringing you to safety.
The ambulance engine is still running, causing its underside to reach temperatures that make Natasha feel like she is hiding in a furnace. She holds her breath from the fumes as she crawls to the front of the vehicle, throwing her arm out and reaching for your hand.
“Y/N!” she screams. “I’m right here! Hold on!” Her fingertips brush yours and she grabs onto your wrist tightly. You’re bigger and heavier than her, but the adrenaline gives her strength. With a massive heave, she drags you under the ambulance. You smear through the puddle of your own blood and it soaks through the back of your shirt.
There isn’t even enough room for her to lift her head, but she grabs onto both your arms, digging her elbows into the ground and crawling backwards. “I got you, Y/N. I got you,” she pants. But the lack of space and your deadweight make it impossible for her to pull you all the way through, so she backs out from under the ambulance. “Steve, help me!” she shouts.
“Move!” Steve says to her, although his shoulders are too broad to fit in the narrow gap. However, his arms are long enough to reach both of your hands, and all it takes is one big tug for you to come sliding out from the ambulance.
Your eyes fly open suddenly, awakened by the agonizing pain coursing through your shoulder like a lightning bolt. You scream, and as much as it makes Natasha’s heart hurt, she’s glad to see that you’re still alive.
“You guys need to get out of here right now!” Clint yells. “Take the ambulance!”
Steve pulls you into a standing position and wraps his arms around your waist, lifting you onto his shoulders effortlessly. You flop over him like a ragdoll, pain pulsing in your stomach when you bump against his chest.
BOOM.
A bullet shatters the sideview mirror of the ambulance.
“Go, go!” Natasha urges, putting herself between the danger and you and Steve. Steve runs with you to the back of the ambulance and flings the door open. There is no gurney, so Natasha helps him lay you on the floor and climbs in after you.
“Stay with Y/N. I’ll drive,” Steve offers, going around to the front. “Clint, we’re taking Y/N to the Quinjet! Hold the scene down!”
“Copy that!” Clint is just as concerned for your safety, but he knows you’re in good hands. Steve jumps into the driver’s seat and throws the ambulance in reverse.
BOOM.
The windshield explodes.
“Let’s go!” Natasha screams, ducking her head.
“Hold on!” Steve backs into a sharp U-turn. The tires screech as they find traction on the road to accelerate forward.
Natasha practically lays on top of you to prevent you from rolling around. From a shelf, she grabs a handful of gauze packets, tearing them open with her teeth. She rips your shirt open and presses the gauze first to your shoulder, then another to the side of your stomach. You’re completely soaked in blood and it continues to pump out of you with each heartbeat. Your face has faded to a sickly pale.
“N-Nat,” you whisper, trying to move but pinned down by the pain. “N-Nat—”
“Shh, it’s okay,” she comforts. “Just keep your eyes open for me, okay?”
You see the blood smeared on her face, her neck, and her hands, too delirious to remember that it’s yours. “A-Are you h-hurt?” you stammer.
Natasha wants to laugh and cry at the same time. You’re so in love with her that even in the face of death you don’t even think about yourself. “No, I’m fine,” she says, grabbing onto your hand and interlocking your fingers. She looks over at Steve, veering through parked cars and roadblocks. “Can we hurry it up a little?” she asks in panic, even though she knows he’s driving as fast as he can.
“I’m trying!” Steve swerves around a fire hydrant and the sudden movement jolts everyone in the ambulance. Natasha presses down on you too hard and you grunt in pain.
“I’m sorry,” she apologizes. “We’re almost there. We’re almost there.”
Your vision fades into fuzzy shapes and blurred colors. Even breathing seems to be too much of a task for you. Steve parks behind the Quinjet and comes around to help carry you in.
“Do you need me to go with you?” Steve asks as he lays you across the back seats of the Quinjet.
“No.” Natasha shakes her head. “Stay and help Barton.”
Steve doesn’t even try to argue. “We’ll find who did this, Nat. I promise.” He goes to the controls at the front and presses a few buttons. “The coordinates for the Tower are set. You’ll autopilot all the way there. Just make sure to update the medical team on Y/N’s condition.”
“Thanks, Steve.”
“Everything will be okay.” He places his hand on Natasha’s shoulder for a moment before jogging back to the ambulance. As soon as he’s off the Quinjet, the door raises shut and the engines blast on. You’re several states away from New York, but at the speeds the plane can travel, you should be there in minutes. You just have to hang on until then.
Natasha leaves your side only to grab more gauze, pressing it against your bullet wounds to slow the bleeding. She rolls you to your side so there’s no pressure on your front or back, but grimaces when she sees that your back looks as bad as your front.
“N-Nat,” you try whispering again, but she is quick to shush you.
“Not now, okay? Just stay awake for me, Y/N.”
You’ve never felt so weak before. It feels like you were hit by a bus and ground up by its tires. Your mind processes in slow-motion—probably a side effect of the blood loss—and you already forgot how you got into the Quinjet. But the physical pain isn’t your greatest concern anymore. You just don’t want to lose your fight and leave her.
Natasha fits an oxygen mask around your face and the cool air is comforting, but you know your time is ticking away. You don’t notice the Quinjet hiss to a landing or acknowledge the team of doctors suddenly hovering over you.
“We’ll do the surgery in room six!”
“Prep a blood transfusion!”
“Two gunshot wounds from a large-caliber gun!”
The doctors move you to a gurney and wheel you off the Quinjet. Natasha holds onto your hand as they take you to the surgery room, but a doctor stops her from entering with you.
“No, Romanoff. You gotta stay out here. We’ll take it from here.”
Natasha doesn’t fight back, letting your fingers slip through hers as you disappear behind the doors.
***********************************************************************
“Any updates?” Clint and Steve finally arrive a few hours later, but you’re still in surgery.
“Not yet.” Natasha paces the kitchen anxiously. Although she found the time to wash your blood off her hands and face, she hasn’t changed out of her uniform yet.
“Nat, you should get cleaned up. Y/N isn’t going anywhere,” Clint says.
“I know, I just…I want to be there when—” She can’t finish her sentence, falling into Clint’s arms and crying into his shoulder.
“Y/N is a fighter, remember?” Clint says, rubbing her back.
“But the amount of blood—”
“Super soldiers don’t go down easy,” Steve reminds her. “Y/N will pull through. And besides, you’ll be there to help with the recovery.”
Natasha nods, pulling away from Clint and wiping her face. “I’m sorry I froze when I saw Y/N get shot—”
“What are you apologizing for?” Clint asks.
“I don’t know—I put you all in danger because I couldn’t get myself out of the way—” she hiccups.
“You didn’t do anything wrong,” Steve assures. “In fact, you were the one who dragged Y/N to safety, remember? I couldn’t fit under the ambulance and Clint was just sitting around like a duck—”
“Excuse you,” Clint interrupts, and Natasha smiles thinly.
“So, did you find who did this?” she asks.
“Uh—” Clint and Steve look at each other awkwardly. “Natasha, we—”
“Did you find them?” Natasha repeats with more force. Clint motions for Steve to explain.
“That’s the thing,” Steve says. “We don’t know who did this. We scoped out the whole area with the police. We went out more than a mile, but we couldn’t find anything. No shell casings, nothing.”
“Oh, so you’re telling me a ghost shot and tried to kill Y/N?” Natasha scoffs.
“No, we…” Steve tries to find the right words. “We think it was a setup, maybe like a hired assassin or something.”
“Who would want to kill Y/N?” Natasha asks.
“That’s what we need to figure out.”
Natasha knows you have a lot of baggage from your past, particularly when you were forced into illegal covert operations by the government. But it’s been a long time since then. You became your own person and changed your life for the better. Unfortunately, not everyone sees the side of you that Natasha and the Avengers do.
When Clint and Steve leave to shower and change, Natasha finally does the same. She dresses in clean clothes and curls up on your shared bed, inhaling your scent through the pillow and blankets.
Sometime later, Clint visits and knocks on the door. “Hey, Nat? Y/N just got out of surgery—” He doesn’t even get a chance to finish his sentence and is almost run over by Natasha as she hurries over to the medical bay. She doesn’t know which specific room they’re keeping you in, but it’s like she’s drawn to your very presence and finds the correct one instantly.
You lie upright in the bed, propped forward with pillows so there’s less pressure on your back. Your right arm is in a sling and your entire torso is wrapped in bandages. An IV drip leads into the veins on your hand, while a blood pouch sends blood into the vein inside of your elbow. You have an oxygen tube up your nose and looped around your ears.
“I heard the doctor went a little overboard on the anesthesia,” Clint says from behind Natasha, startling her. “You know, with the super soldier serum and everything. Y/N will probably be out of it for a while.” Natasha walks to your side and kneels, gently taking your hand. Your skin is clammy and colder than normal, but your pulse beats strongly.
“I’ll be here as long as it takes.” Natasha raises your hand, mindful of the wires around your wrist, and kisses your fingers.

reading the crossover headcanons for TOH was amazing!
i wanted to request a crossover with TOH and Steven Universe if possible! (also with Hunter x Reader) You can decide between reader being half-gem, like Steven, or fully gem! If you can't or don't want to, that's okay! Aand I really love your headcanons! You make them long and detailed! It's truly amazing.
Crossover Headcanons | SU x TOH [Hunter x Gem//Hybrid!Reader]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
thank you for requesting, anon
These are written with a gender neutral reader in mind and have a general chronology from the reader’s last moments in little homeworld until they end up with Hunter, so apologies if this gets long!
Note : this is the first time I’ve written for the SU canon, so I’m not as experienced with that universe. Also my portrayal of these characters is still pretty rocky, so I may rework this in the future.
The first few months you spent in Little Homeworld had felt almost like a dream come to life; freedom to be yourself and explore a world full of organic life without the restrictions placed on you by the diamonds? It was fantastic! However, that feeling of unrestricted feeling soon started to grow stale as you realise that the growth of the small colony had already started to stagnate—and that not all humans were welcoming of intergalactic immigrants like your kind.
So to ease your mind you opted to take the warp to the next star system over—craving that same sense of excitement that you had during the gem war
Simply standing on the warp again was enough to get your blood pumping with a reignited vigour for exploration
A feeling so palpable that you failed to notice the array of spindly cracks that spanned the surface of the device, and the way that a sickly dull light pulsated beneath your feet (the sight accompanied by a warning hum far too low for you to notice)
Though you couldn’t ignore the way the warp didn’t immediately go off like usual, nor could you neglect the searing pain that spread through your veins and constricted your throat; leaving you in so much pain that you couldn’t even move or scream before your vision was engulfed in a glitching, sickeningly bright light
It must have been several hours later when you woke up, based on how high the sun was in the sky… was the sky that red before?
Your head was pounding and although your vision was blurry, yet you couldn’t ignore how different your surroundings were from the earth you were used to
The sky was a faint red and the ground beneath your feet was dusted with deep maroon grass—it was soft and warm under your fingertips but with how much organic matter there was you knew that this wasn’t a colony
Hell, you didn’t even arrive on a warp on this end, so either you had been transported to somewhere else because a malfunction (unusual, but likely) or someone had taken you from the receiving warp and dropped you off in the middle of a clearing (far less likely)
Suddenly struck with worry, you sat up and moved your clothes to get a good look at your gem, letting out a relieved sigh when you saw it undamaged (clearly you’d landed where you woke up as most organics would have tried to remove it from your body before dumping you)
Realising that you were mostly safe you slowly rose to your feet and decided to explore your new environment, hand hovering near your gem in case you needed to defend yourself from whatever creatures had made their home here—trying to make yourself appear as small, quiet and unnoticeable as possible as you went
However, your efforts seemed to be in vein as you were quickly greeted by an excitable and loud human girl who practically screamed her welcome to you
You were torn between fleeing and fighting her when she offered her hand and introduced herself as “Luz the human”, her demeanour quite closely mirroring what you’d heard about Steven when he was younger from his mothers—it was almost endearing how much she tried to hold in her joy at seeing another “human”. You almost didn’t have the heart to tell her the truth as she walked you back to her home.
You were accosted at the door by an organic tube with an owl’s face that quickly and gleefully introduced itself as Hooty—the creepy, but rather friendly, house demon
Luz made an effort to hastily brush him off and hurry you both inside where you met with the other two inhabitants of the home as well as Luz’s “awesome girlfriend”, Amity.
Eda, an older witch with grey hair that hardly suited her age, greeted you with muted suspicion, not even taking her eyes off of you as she addressed the human at your side—seemingly unsure of your motives but trusting herself to be stronger than you (if her grip on her staff was anything to go by)
King, however, was much more brazen and blatant in his distrust of you, stomping over and pointing an accusing claw up at you as he threatened you in every way he could muster (even if all that got him was a halfhearted coo from you that left the creature more frustrated and downtrodden than before)
The guest, Amity, meanwhile, looked over at you with disinterest before she caught a glimpse of your (colour) gem peeking out from your clothing—immediately pointing it out and questioning you about it, much to your chagrin
This inevitably led to a very long and semi-complicated conversation discussing the intricacies of your species and how, no, you’re technically not a human
No you weren’t trying to deceive Luz, either, you just felt too awkward to correct her
But when all was said and done (and you were all out of steam after a several hour session of intense questioning and frustration at miscommunications) they seemed much more relaxed around you—even willing to let you stay with them, at Luz’s request, so long as you pulled your weight around the house and helped to keep them safe
And, really, how hard could that be? You fought in an intergalactic war so taking out a few organics should be a piece of cake (as Steven would say)
After spending a few weeks in this strange new world you had come to realise one specific thing; it wasn’t easy. It was, in fact, the exact opposite.
If you had to bubble one more guard you were going to scream
What had they done to make this Emperor hate them so much?
It felt as though half of your time was spent bubbling, blocking or disabling people that had made their way to the Owl House—and the rest was spent painstakingly explaining your abilities and species to Amity, Lilith and Luz
Granted, that wasn’t the most stressful part of your stay
No
That was hands down the stresses that came with visits from Luz’s friends from Hexside: the endlessly kind and protective Willow and the ever-curious and annoyingly quick witted Gus
That being said, you did appreciate their enthusiasm to learn about and accommodate you—even if the look Willow gave you when you spoke about the empire’s treatment of organic life did leave you rather shaken
So what little free time you had was spent learning about the local culture and sharing your experiences with them
Training with Amity and Eda
Helping Willow with her plants in whatever way you can based on your gem
Creating gem clones to help Gus perfect his illusions even further
Teaching Lilith and Luz about your abilities as well as those of your fellow gems, even helping the latter learn to write using gem glyphs
It was heartwarming to see others so passionate about your home, even if their insistence on pushing you to your limits could be rather frustrating (especially early in the mornings when your patience ran thin)
However, the longer you spent there the more members of the Emperor’s Coven (amongst others) you ended up coming across. One particularly memorable instance occurred when you were escorting a fretting Amity through Bonesborough with the twins (who’s presence you had grown rather fond of as their visits became more frequent).
Ed had dragged Em back to the library a good few minutes ago, leaving you and Amity to your own decides as you weaved in and out of the foot traffic—only to stop completely when the youngest Blight suddenly froze before grabbing your hand and darting off to an adjacent alleyway
As you went to protest, she promptly clamped one hand over your mouth and gestured rather violently for you to stay quiet before nodding towards a figure just a bit away from you
From the golden mask and white cloak you knew they were a member of the Emperor’s Coven—but you’d seen them before, on the posters littered around the city, each exploring passersby to join their coven
Golden Guard
That was a definite threat
So you passed the girl a spare cloak and did what you could to mask your own appearance before carefully making your way back home, shopping be damned—one hand over your gem just in case he happened to notice you
Though thankfully he didn’t
Not that it stopped you from filing him away as someone to be wary of anyway; he was the emperor’s right hand man, after all, so there was no such thing as being “too cautious”
And for a while that’s exactly what it was, not that you saw much of him that is, but from what you’d been told about Luz and Amity’s run ins with him you were glad to have never seen him face-to-face. If you had, you were almost certain he wouldn’t come out unscathed—teenage protege or not.
So with all that in mind, the last that you were expecting to see on a relatively peaceful Saturday evening was the unmasked Golden Guard practically unconscious and leaning on Luz and Eda for support as they burst through the door
Completely ignoring Hooty as usual as they carefully laid him down on the seat beside you (after you’d hurriedly gotten up, that is)
He looked to be in an awful state, with his visible skin bloodied, bruised and scarred whilst his usually pristine uniform was tattered and caked in dirt and what seemed to be even more of his blood
Seeming to notice your distress, Eda briefly addressed you and her sister before sending you all off to gather supplies (or heal if your gem allowed it)
“The kid’s been through a lot, but he’s with us now. Trust me, I wouldn’t have carried him all this way if I had any doubts about it.”
And that was that
It took Hunter (as he introduced himself) over a week to even be able to get out of bed and walk around unassisted—and whilst he actively avoided speaking about what had happened to him, you had a feeling that Belos was somehow involved
Though things were still rather tense for a month or so after he arrived, no matter how hard Luz tried to integrate him (and no matter how polite and welcoming Willow and Gus tried to be)
And you didn’t even want to recall the shouting match that occurred when Amity saw him in the living room with Luz….
It seemed as though he was just more content to shut himself away with L’il Rascal and only interact with Luz and Eda; the former to learn from her and the latter because she wouldn’t let him get away with anything but
That wasn’t even mentioning the palpable tension between him and Lilith (she would only say that it was from their time in the coven—and Luz suspected he’d annoyed her a bit too much—but nothing else would come of it)
But the others were worried about him, so you were sent in as a neutral party to talk with him about… things. You weren’t really told what and you didn’t have the time to ask.
Initially he was incredibly closed off and would only address you briefly, barely even acknowledging your presence as he gave his full attention to the scattered papers on his desk, each depicting a different spell and each ever so slightly off
So, as gently as you could you took the quill from him and drew a simple glyph on a spare scalp of paper, carefully leading him through the motions before leaning back and activating the spell (and smiling at his much more openly interested expression)
That then sparked a deep conversation about different types of magic—specifically wild magic and glyphs—as you shared what you knew about the topic with one another, every so often breaking off into laughter or patient silence as he’d run across the room to show you his notes or books he’d found
Naturally this would lead to him asking you about where you came from and you discussing your origins with him
Homeworld
The Diamond Authority
The gem war
Colonies
Soldiers
Shattering
The Crystal Gems
Everything
He was incredibly easy to talk to as he listened with a genuine intensity to what you said, nodding along and even asking well thought out questions about your world where appropriate
Depending on how close you were, he may even ask to see your gem and ask about its purpose
If you let him touch it, he’d be so very gentle, almost treating you as though you were made of glass—maybe even sketching it down and noting down your abilities and weaknesses in his personal notebook and apologising if it was weird
This mutual interest in magic and your shared experiences of either having to conform to a specific role your whole life [full gem reader] or feeling out of place and weaker because of your shortcomings [half gem reader] would be the basis of your friendship turned relationship. The transition between the two would be so incredibly seamless and slow that you wouldn’t even notice it happening—one moment you two were best friends sparring and the next you were hiding your blushing face in his neck as he hugs you and apologises for hitting you a bit too hard with his magic.
Your relationship would be sweet and slow and genuine
Hunter is new to receiving any kind of affection, so you’d probably have to teach him a thing or two—but he’d learn quite quickly so don’t worry
He’d spend hours studying your culture and language just to write you notes or offer you affirmations in ways unique to your culture, even calling you “my (Y/n)” after a while
Likewise, the first time you called him “my Hunter” he was left red in the face for the rest of the day (he loved it, though, so don’t stop)
But the moment someone makes a teasing remark about how soft he’s gotten (usually one of the Blight siblings or his own younger sister figure, Luz), Hunter will partially revert to being cold in public (whilst still being affectionate and openly touch starved in private)
In short, your relationship with him would be built on a foundation of mutual trust, affection and understanding that sprouted from friendship and honest conversations about your passions and pasts
