Terrible Fic Idea #58: Percy Jackson x Criminal Minds

While perusing the PJO tag for the first time in ages, I stumbled across yet another crossover I never would have thought of trying - and which, naturally, hasn't escaped my head. It managed to mash together the worlds of PJO and Criminal Minds... and so, naturally, I thought: if I were going to write this crossover, what would I do?

Just imagine it:

Everything follows canon - until MoA. There Percy plays off the judo throw in New Rome to avoid starting a war with the Greeks, but after they're alone on the Argo Percy tells Annabeth that he doesn't appreciate 1) being blamed for his disappearance, as if Hera had asked him if he wanted to lose his memories and half a year of his life, and 2) being physically attacked by his girlfriend outside of weapons practice.

Naturally, Annabeth doesn't take this well and doubles down on her position, and the two fight like cats and dogs throughout MoA and HoO. By the time they reach Akhlys, Percy is hardly inclined to listen to Annabeth at all, and so doesn't stop poison-bending.

It's not obvious at the time, but not stopping fully unlocks Percy's divine powers. He's now immortal, like Chiron, but not a god. It's also rather the final straw for Annabeth and Percy's relationship.

Because he doesn't immediately realize he's immortal, Percy goes on with normal human things like high school and college - attending both at Camp Jupiter, which is better equipped to handle demigods than the average mortal school. It's only after he starts grad school at nearby Stanford University and gets a lot of comments on how young he looks does anyone start realizing what's happened.

Fast forward to about 15 years after HOO, when Percy has joined the BAU - because even immortals have to pay the bills somehow.

In my head I picture this to be S8/S9 of CM, largely because I enjoyed Alex Blake's character and think she'd be a good outsider POV for the story I want to tell, but dealer's choice.

Percy proves to be the BAU cryptid. His primary and secondary school records say unsub in the making... then he double majors in marine biology and classics in college (because everyone who survives four years in the legion or slays a particular number of monsters gets a classics degree when they graduate by default). Then he goes on to get a doctorate in psychology from Stanford... and swim twice for Team USA in the Olympics. He once went on vacation in the Keys and found the wreck of a lost Spanish galleon free diving. He's polite and mild mannered and goes nowhere without at least three knives on his person and a week's worth of survival gear. When he's tired, his reports sometimes slip into Ancient Greek or Latin. He may be a Hellenist and speaks of Hell as a place that he's been.

Percy is, in short, unfathomable to his profiler colleagues. They like him, but every new thing they learn about him only complicates the profile they're definitely not putting together.

He's been in the BAU for about 18 months before they receive reports of a serial killer's dumping ground in the Oakland Hills, not more than a mile from Camp Jupiter. The victims are all in their late teens and signs indicate all were killed in a ritualistic way. Most of those the investigators can identify are runaways.

Once the BAU is on site, Reid determines that someone is trying to recreate an obscure Ancient Roman sacrifice.

More importantly, Percy realizes that, yes, these are definitely the bodies of Roman demigods - and not one of them was killed by a monster before they could get to camp. In fact, he's pretty sure there's a secret entrance to camp not 100' away from the oldest body.

It's this last point that causes Percy to lead his team to Camp Jupiter. This is a revelation in itself and should answer many of the team's questions about Percy but give them twice as many new ones.

It should also be perfect timing, as they arrive just as praetors Frank and Hazel were thinking of reaching out to Percy, as he's the only real investigator either camp has. They're not aware of most of the murders, as it's not unusual for one or two demigods every year to be killed after leaving the safety of camp, but the last three victims went missing in the last three months under odd circumstances.

(One was a granddaughter of Apollo who'd talked about wanting to join the Hunters of Artemis, and when she disappeared everyone assumed that's what she did, only for the Hunters to visit later claiming she never showed. The most recent was a daughter of Bacchus who hated the regimented life of the legion and wanted to transfer to Camp Half-Blood where things were a little more their speed. Most the others were legacies or the children of minor gods.)

They set up shop in Percy's house - in part because CJ has no police force beyond the legion, which houses their main suspects - in part because Percy's house is built like a Roman temple on the edge of the temple district and no one would dare sneak into it.

(The demigods have been actively treating immortal Percy as a god, because if deification worked for Nero, they can make it work for Percy. And a deified!Percy could only be good for them.)

In the end it comes out a grandchild of Hecate/Trivia was sacrificing other demigods to their ancestor in hopes of obtaining more power - they should be just powerful enough to disguise their actions with the Mist but not much more, and intensely jealous their ancestor handed already-powerful Hazel more power during the Giant War.

Bonuses include: 1) Thalia and the Hunters showing up to help, as do Nico and Will. This should be an intensely confusing family reunion to watch from the outside given that two are immortal. Extra bonus points if the BAU recognize Nico from some wildly successful paranormal investigative channel on YouTube and are shocked to find out all the ghosts are real; 2) Will calling Percy "mom", on account of the fact he's been dating Apollo for the last five years now - Apollo's longest relationship ever - though Percy refuses to consider marriage or children until fifty years have passed; and 3) One of the BAU being tangentially involved with the mythological world already - Hotch had a relationship with a disguised Justice before meeting Hailey and their child is at Camp Jupiter? Reid has just recently met a disguised Athena at a conference and is now worried he'll arrive home to a baby on the doorstep?

⋆ a/n: as romantic of an author as i am, i actually love writing platonic relationships! this is actually a second one i've done, the first one being a loki fanfic! writing for the very first episode is so nostalgic! the money i would pay to be able to watch supernatural for the first time.

You were only a teenager when Sam, Dean, and your father had gotten into that fight about Sam wanting to go to Stanford. It was a bad one, one that you couldn't help but sit back and watch. There was nothing you could say or do as Sam approached you, placing a kiss on your forehead before bidding you a fruitless goodbye.

Now here you were, sat in the passenger seat of the Impala as you were on your way to pick up your older brother. You had told Dean a long time ago that he should respect Sam's decision of not wanting to be a hunter, but now you had no other choice but then to drag him back in, not with your father missing. Personally, going to get Sam was the last thing you wanted to do, but it felt like you had no other choice. This was something bigger than you and Dean combined, you just felt it deep inside your gut, like an intuition.

You had been hunting since you were a kid, and when Sam was gone, your father pushed you and your eldest brother hard, constantly hunting, being ordered around like a drill Sargent. Maybe it was selfish to say that you weren't eager to find your dad, but you were doing this Dean, since he had taken care of you since you were little. You wished it was different for him, that he didn't have to give up his youth to make sure that you and Sam were safe.

"Do you think he even wants to see us?" You asked quietly from your seat. You could see Dean throw you a quick glance before paying attention to the road. "You? Yeah. Me? I'm not so sure." You sighed, sending him a sympathetic smile. "Dean, you're his brother. Yes, he may have been pissed, but he doesn't hate you." He shrugged half-heartedly, basically letting you know that the conversation was over. You sunk back your seat, the darkness surrounding the car besides that orange streetlights peeking into the windows were extremely calming, the atmosphere lolling you into a blissful nap as your gut fluttered in excitement. You were finally going to see your brother.

You were awoken by Dean nudging you. You were parked in front of an apartment building.

"We're here." He said, wiping his own tiredness out of his eyes. "I think I'm going to stay in the car." You said as you yawned, sitting up to stretch. He looked at you for a moment before muttering out an 'okay', getting of the car as he said it.

You were a big bundle of nerves. Yes, you weren't included in the fight, but what if he forgot about you? What if he didn't want to see you anymore because he had a new life? You were his sister, so he couldn't possibly throw you away like that, right? There were too many thoughts, and a part of you wished that you had gone with Dean. You needed some fresh air as you stepped out of the car, back perched against the door as you shoved your hands in your pockets.

You heard talking— or what sounded like arguing as you watched your two brothers walk up the steps. Their conversation ceased as you and Sam made eye contact. You gulped, your finger picking at a loose thread in your pocket anxiously as you nervously smiled at him.

"Hi, Sam." You said with a nervous smile on your face. "______." Was all your brother said before he pulled you in for a hug. You laughed at his eagerness, a wave of relief crashing over you as you smiled. You looked at Dean and he had small smile of his own— not that he would ever admit that.

"I'm sorry I missed your eighteenth." Sam apologized as he pulled away from your embrace. "It's okay, Sammy. I promise." You reassured. "You really have grown up." Sam said, ruffling your hair. "And you're still a jackass." You teased back. He let out a chuckle of his own. Your heart was singing in glee, a part of you feeling whole again as he turned back to what him and Dean were originally talking about.

"So, what was dad hunting anyway?" Sam asked.

You and Dean shared a look, one that spoke that he had a lot to catch up on.

CRM anon again. Thank you for the advice. It's helped me look more objectively at the situation. Others seem curious, so I'll just say I've experienced/witnessed unsafe work practices, abusive language toward employees, and transphobia at that company. For now I plan to follow the general consensus of quietly guiding others away from working there rather than making an open statement.

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences, but I'm glad that I was able to offer you some perspective. Dr. barb Voss has written two excellent articles on harassment in archaeology, as well as a couple of less formal pieces, and I'm going to link them here.

I wouldn’t assume no team would pick CP. Teams have proven twice that they will still take her even if she says she won’t play for them. I don’t think Arod will, but I think there is a chance Montoya could. He helped coach her at Stanford for a bit and was one of the recruiters that sought her out for Stanford. He really likes her as a player. I think he would take a chance that she would play for him (especially if Jenni is going there) or they just trade her back to LA for more value than they would have gotten from an ACFC bench player.

given that several of the main starters this year are free agents and don't need to be protected, they'll protect CP as a nod to her anyway since they have space.

Sarah, Dani, Madison, Sav, Britt, Merritt, Eddy, Simone are all free agents.

Anderson, Emslie, Endo, Henry, Le Bihan, Vignola, Thompson, Christen, Syd or Ali would then be my list.

My guess is we're losing one of Spencer, Didi, Nielsen, Reid, or Camberos?

idk what they'll do about Camberos, Syd or Paige. Those are the on the fence players to me (based on who I think the FO likes)

☽ a lot of students in the class found him really annoying/hated him because he was a harsh grader

☽ he gave luna a b- on her first essay but she went to his office hours to discuss her grade and after speaking with her (and lowk getting seduced by her beauty and intelligence) he let her rewrite the paper for a better grade as long as she didn’t tell anyone

☽ she got an a-

☽ she invited him to dinner as a thank you but he didn’t think that was appropriate so they got coffee instead

☽ he complimented her rewritten version and they ended up missing the class because they were so caught up in chatting about her work

☽ turned into a coffee tradition before class; they would meet up but only talked about class material/readings

☽ because the class only met once a week though, they only hung out for about two months before the semester was coming to an end

☽ she invited him out to dinner again at the end of the semester, and this time he accepted because he liked her company

☽ they became close friends (he didn’t really have anyone else)

☽ he was lowk appalled when he found out she had a fake id (it’s spencer lol) but really just wanted her to be safe especially when she was drinking

☽ she took him to a party once but he hated it so they left shortly after arriving and got a bottle of wine instead and drank at his place

☽ her friends thought he was a little weird at first but she had him over a lot for movie nights/hanging out and they saw how well they complimented each other

☽ they did long distance for two years but it was really difficult towards the end

☽ they had a mutual break up but they still loved each other

☽ spencer saw dean on the tv during “Nightshifter” (spn) and had garcia look up his record; he was shocked and confused when he realized that the three of you were on the fbi wanted list

☽ two weeks later, spencer was abducted in “Revelations” (cm) and had bigger problems to deal with than his criminal ex-girlfriend

☽ a year later, garcia told him that she died after hendrickson faked everyone’s death in “Jes in Bello” (spn) and he regretted never reaching out

☽ she took on the case because it seemed to be demons and ended up running into spencer at the hospital when they both tried to interview the same witness

☽ she tried talking to him but he didn’t want the rest of the team to make the connection of her crimes and put her in danger so he said no (also he was lowk mad)

☽ she bought him coffee and they talked… she gave him the monster talk and they worked it out

☽ BUT she had to go back to her brothers and he was still in the fbi so they only exchanged numbers and nothing more

☽ she told her brothers when they got back and at first they were a little mad but then they realized that spencer is actually protecting her (and them) and they leave it be

☽ sometimes her and spencer texted but it was really rare and mostly just to see which cases were monster-related or psychopath-related so they didn’t have crossover

☽ spencer discovered the supernatural books and read them ALL and i mean ALLLLLL

☽ it allowed him to catch up with their years apart and he realized why she was wanted as a criminal

☽ (he especially liked the chapters that he was in) and since it was written based off her inner monologue, he realized how much she loved (and still loves) him

☽ “The Eyes Have It” (cm) where an unsub seemed to be taking people’s eyes turned out some of the victims were actually due to an angel burning them and spencer and her work together to investigate/hunt, rekindling their relationship

☽ (they got drunk and hooked up) and they ended up getting back together afterward

☽ it was even harder to date this time because of distance and crimes ofc, but they worked at it every day and finally made it work

☽ at one point i’d like to believe that the bau eventually catches luna’s mom’s killer

"Veep": A Tim Baltz sighting, an "is he or isn't he?" tease, and a lot of frontal nudity

I watched the first season or so of Veep (2012-2019), with Julia Louise-Dreyfuss as a scheming, acerbic Vice President of the U.S. (political party unspecified), but got annoyed with the excessive amorality of the characters and their interminable petty squabbles. But I'm back to review Episode 3.4, "Clovis," because it reputedly has a gay theme. There's a huge cast of middle-aged white men with interchangeable personalities and identical names, so it will be easier to refer to them by job title.

Scene 1: Palo Alto, California. The Veep (Julia Louise Dreyfuss) is speaking at Stanford. Her Strategist (Gary Cole, below) notes that tickets are $5000. Tomorrow she's speaking at Clovis, a company worth $4.3 billion ("more than I make in a year!"). Darn, I thought she would be going to New Mexico.

While she is holding a baby and talking baby-talk, its mother asks why she backflipped on fracking. They get into an argument. The team tries to disengage, but you can't just walk away while holding a baby.

Scene 2: The VP Chief of Staff is yelling at the Communications Director (Matt Walsh, left), asking why he didn't disengage quicker. Meanwhile the Veep and her Assistant Gary (Tony Hale) discuss the damage: "You're going to alienate women in their 30s." "Oh, no!" she exclaims. "I'm left with gay Latinos and Jews at college." A very precise fan base.

Scene 3: At the Veep's office, the staff watches tv: Danny Chung (Randall Park, below) is talking about the fracking fiasco (gleefully; he must be an enemy). Deputy Director of Communications (Reid Scott, top photo, left, and below) wants to "take the fucker out."

To add to his woes, on his computer, his frenemy Jonah is rapping about the fiasco, having the Veep say "And that's why drinking chemical sludge is good for you."

Lol yes, I love this vibe in a heroine.

The Truth About Cads and Dukes by Elisa Braden--Jane Huxley. Jane is shy on paper, but she's actually pretty opinionated and headstrong. Very nerdy and literary and super annoyed by her marriage of convenience. She's not quite as confident as Lillian (she wears glasses, is fat, and is considered plain, which would normally annoy me but she's also a Crouching Nerd Chick, Hidden Sexpot so it's fine) but she does have that level of like, blithe self-belief. I identified her as a dumb bitch (affectionate) when she started going off on the hero about how he couldn't possibly understand what was going on unless he was inside of her!!! She meant her mind. He understood she meant her mind, but it didn't help.

Wicked in His Arms by Stacy Reid--Olivia "Livvie" Sherwood. A dumb virgin who can't drive but is sure that she can go toe to toe with the cold, stubborn hero. She's kind of right? But also gets into a fuckton of trouble on the way. I definitely recommend this book to It Happened One Autumn fans, the enemies to lovers vibe is similar and the heroine does something soooo unhinged towards the end that I was completely and utterly delighted.

A Week to Be Wicked by Tessa Dare--Minerva Highwood. Another "I'm dumb but I'm smart" heroine. Minerva knows a lot about fossils and shit, but she doesn't know fuck all about how to keep a hold of her virginity. Traveling with a slutty rake guy and being like "oh yes, show me how people have sex, as long as there's a sheet between us what can go wrong" is not like... the brightest. But she's extremely opinionated.

A Daring Pursuit by Kate Bateman--Carys Davies. She's one of those "let me fight the ice man" heroines (again, much like Lillian) who then stumbles into a Sex Deal and is in way over her head. My favorite part of this book is that it involves her tendency to rescue like, any and all animals including a BEAR.

The Earl I Ruined by Scarlett Peckham--Constance Stonewell. MAJORLY. She ruins this man's life with idle gossip, and then is all "I shall save him with a fake engagement because I feel bad". She like, stumbles upon his secret stash of dildos and is like "egad, this is a man who enjoys being PUNISHED" when the very clear implication through their every encounter is that... he is the one... doing the punishing...

The Rake Gets Ravished by Sophie Jordan--Mercy Kittinger. My favorite thing about this book is that it kicks off with the heroine sneaking into the hero's room to steal something from him, and when he finds her like... her "think fast" moment is "Oh I just wanted to have sex with you". What a lovely moron.

In Bed with the Devil by Lorraine Heath--Olivia Stanford. God bless. Will do anything to protect her son and is a refined lady. Will also charge headfirst into danger and faint at the sight of Jack Dodger's penis.
