i’m a bit too hungover to fully articulate this the way i want to but
there’s something about camila dragging billy to that party where he’s immediately offered alcohol because she’s never truly seen his addiction for what it is vs daisy staying in his tour bus with him because she understands that they’re fighting the same struggle
there’s something about camila not really having any clue why billy needs daisy so much to the point where she has to ask if daisy’s a better lover than her vs daisy inherently understanding why billy had to choose his family despite never having a family of her own
there’s something about camila never intervening in the billy/eddie conflict in all those years vs daisy showing up and immediately telling billy that aurora needed to be eddie’s project too
there’s something about billy writing the same songs over and over with camila vs daisy forcing him out of his songwriting comfort zone leading to him writing the most personal and beautiful songs of his career
something something daisy allowed him to be the truest version of himself while camila let him hide behind the idealized version something something billy ultimately chose camila because he wanted to be the man that she saw instead of the complicated mess that daisy understood him to be

The Meaning of Pop
CW addiction
This is just a question, but do you think there's a connection to this episode and Emmanuel?
In the Midwest, we call Soda just pop. I know how we feel here about this episode. However, after watching it again. Maybe it was supposed to feel out of place?
Season 2 Episode 5 Pop is about belonging. Tina's classmates invite her to a karaoke bar. Any other John Hughes movie would set that up to be an embarrassing moment. Instead, her classmates cheer for her! The meaning of Pop tells us that Carmy does not belong in Claire's environment.
The episode felt out of place because the viewers knew Carmy didn't belong there; he belonged with Sydney. We had very minimal scenes with Syd and Carmy and this is why it seemed...off
But back to this pop thing. Carmy staying away from that experience is how he survived his childhood. He's sipping pop instead of the beer, avoiding beer pong, and pretending to be crazy Logan. I ask about the two episode's pop moment because addiction is brought up in 2x05 directly after Claire hands Carmy a soda.
I just think it's interesting for the 2x10 scene, this friend of Emmanuel nodding his head, agreeing that Emmanuel does not drink, and from what I gather, neither does Carmy based on his tattoo and the scene in 2x05. It''s an important detail- important enough to have a soda selection- the gift is something meaningful. I wondered if he was recovering from an addiction. Either way, it's something a small detail that Carmy and Syd's dad have in common.
But what do you think? Do you think or hope this Emmanuel/Carmy drinking pop will reappear in later seasons?
