Hello tunglers I am. In need of help.
For those that don't know, I am currently working on the drafting of an eventual fantasy open world game. HOWEVER.
I'd like to make this game unlike many popular games i see in todays media, as in I want to include a variety of different characters that portray different lifestyles, appearances, etc etc.
SO, what I'd like to hear about is just what, exactly, people want to see in a fantasy based media. Whether that be in terms of creatures you want to see (beasts, different humanoid animals, etc), species, characters you'd like to see portrayed, or even just themes you'd like to see- or even themes you DONT want to see!
Please rb and put in the tags or respond directly, and please rb! Every rb helps, and thank you!!

Concept art for a The Owl House-inspired open world RPG
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's a bit of concept art for an Owl House-inspired open world RPG I've been cooking up in my free time.
I'm not ready to reveal a title or more detailed info although god knows I have a lot floating around inside of my brain. What I can say, however, is the Premise:
An undead scientist, attempting to build a teleporter, accidentally brings you, a human, into a grotesque but whimsical world of witches, centaurs, elves, dwarves, and demons- and where humans have been extinct for a thousand years. What starts as a simple quest to find a way home turns into an archipelago-trotting adventure with strange cults, otherworldly beings, dark secrets, and where all life on the planet is at stake.
So far I have been designing this game to have more of a focus on memorable characters and customization (read: dress-up) than strictly combat, which is something I have found lacking in other games. (I've realized I've been writing this sort of like a cartoon, so I'll lean into it and see where this goes. This means that yes, there will be a beach "episode". Tug on my balls one by one, Disney. I'm not sure how, but it will happen.)
I don't have any character/species concept art I am willing to show at the moment, because I'm currently redesigning the visual style of the game. Sorry! I'll share it soon, though.
Also, you get a grappling hook. So there's that.
Other general info:
Q) Does this take place in The Owl House universe? A) No. This is not an Owl House AU/Fan game. It's its own thing with its own rules and lore, but borrows heavily from the show. It might be helpful to this on this as like Vast Error and Homestuck.
Q) Is there actually a game being actively made? A) Yes! There's not much to see, though. It's still at the "Everything is a cube and a capsule" stage of development; I'm focusing on getting a solid foundation laid rather than making any visible progress, which is important for a large-scale game. I've made significant progress, though: I estimate I am about 75% done with the base gameplay elements and making it, you know, playable. For the technically inclined, I have done the following (from the perspective of someone familiar with the Skyrim Creation Kit): - Cell streaming (plugin) - Cross-cell persistence - Goal Orientated Action Planning for NPCs - Lua/Moonscript VM for programming AI and acting as the equivalent of Papyrus (Plugin/my own work) - Player like movement and stuff - Dialogue using the Yarn plugin - NPC inter-cell navigation (think exterior to interior. Very difficult.) - Granular world simulation using Unity's DOTS - Physical properties of items (Systems game stuff, like Breath of the Wild) - You can harvest plants! Holy shit - You can read books
Q) Can I play the game right now? A) Hell no. Not yet, anyway. I'll release an alpha demo at some point, though, which will include: - The Marrows (Right arm of island), the first of currently 8 Prefectures (Analogous to Skyrim's Holds), which itself contains 1 city, 3 towns, 4 regions (geographically distinct areas. Two of them are pictured in the art above) - 30 ish quests? - Representative gameplay - Introduction to the major characters and the antagonist (This world's Belos and Hunter)
Q) What kind of mood is this world going for? A) Mostly lighthearted with some serious moments.
Q) What other influences does this world have? A) Lots. - FLCL (Should be apparent in the combat) - The Elder Scrolls (duh) - Bloodborne - Amphibia - Hyper Light Drifter
If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I can't promise I will be willing to answer them, though. But then again, I am always happy to blab on and on about the world that live inside my mind.

So I got into Elden Ring...
Tumblr media
After getting a massive holyshitthisthingslaps Gaming PC and one of those gigantic curved monitors I was looking for games to try out on it, then thought "wait, didn't I get Elden Ring a while back?"
I had, but after playing a tiny bit as a Wanderer build I got frustrated and quit, so I decided to reboot the game and give it another go. I played a bit as a bandit, but then I decided to give magic a shot with Astrologer.
At time of writing I'm around level 30 and have a bunch of powerful spells including "I summon an orb to rain bolts of pain upon you" and "hey check out my bigass bow oh shit where'd your head go?" and have gotten one of the Great Runes so far and am finding that magic users are quite a fun one for me. I even managed to slay two dragons, but yes here's some highlights of my time in the Lands Between so far:
Walking into a seemingly abandoned ruin of a manor house and then fleeing in a panic screaming "WALLMASTERS! FUCKING WALLMASTERS! MYAMOTO IS GONNA SUE SOMEONE!" before getting fingered to death.
Fighting a zombie that can bite off most of my Astrologer's meager health bar, dodgerolling wrong, and falling off a cliff to my demise while yelling up at them, "I'm okay as long as you didn't get it!"
Pausing and going "What was that ka-thunk sound?" moments before being obliterated by a catapault's payload.
Hearing a lovely operatic singer and being drawn to find out if it was a questgiver or not before being set upon by giant bats and what I can only assume is their vampire master.
Opening a trapped chest and getting warped to a place where the only enemy is a fire giant with an axe that can hit me from the next county over, trying to defeat him and winding up reduced to a pulp several times before realizing if I was sitting at the Point of Grace I could fast travel to safety.
Going into a boss's room, only to find the boss is a massive lava breathing dragon with a sword the size of a schoolbus, then winning out of sheer blind adrenaline fueled panic.
Fighting my way past a powerful sorcerer as a sorcerer myself, realizing he's a better sorcerer, then remembering that all spellcasters have glass jaws before pulling out my magic crystal sword and charging him down screaming "LEEROY JENKINS!"
Entering a pitch black cave, stumbling around in the dark, being torn limb from limb by beastmen I can't see, then going back to the first vendor in the game you meet and realizing I could buy a torch for 200 runes. Half an hour later I learn the Starlight spell that lets me summon a light source. Screaming ensues.
Entering Roundtable Hold only to realize its oddly dark and nobody is around, then that one weirdo in the all black armor rushes into the room glowing red, yells "SURPRISE MOTHAFUCKA!" and shows me what my liver looks like.
Getting the power to breathe fire like a dragon, then realizing I need to use a holy symbol to cast that spell and if I try to use it with my sorcerer's stave my character will just look at their magic stick with their mouth hanging open. Made a mental note to go to From Software headquarters and dick-punch someone.
Imps. Bigods the imps. Just when you think they can't get more irritating they do.
Blaad is best boy. That is all.
