"Recently, a wave of fresh paranormal romance books have hit the shelves. The real question is, which new books should you pick up?
Paranormal romance is a subgenre of romance that follows the HEA/HFN (happily ever after/ happy for now) arc of human, non-human, and/or superhuman characters. The paranormal beings involved could be ghosts, werewolves, vampires, witches, or other supernatural creatures of legend that slot into a paranormal version of our world. If it’s in a high fantasy otherworld or is a monster romance, I am following the judgment of fellow Book Riot writer Jessica Pryde in her paranormal romance recommendation list and disqualifying them from this round-up.
As a longtime fan of the genre, I have plenty of backlist recommendations and a carefully curated list of fresh paranormal romance books. Every book here was published in the last five years, between 2019 and 2024. As a general personal rule, I like my paranormal romance to have believable, well-developed characters and a plot that hooks me in. If either the love interests or plot are paper-thin, my attention swiftly drifts. So, if you are looking for a witch, werewolf, vamp, or otherwise paranormal being falling in love, I’ve decided these are the ones you should read."

🦇 Book Review 🦇
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
❝ Four-legged or two, when someone finds their purpose, magical things happen. ❞
❓ #QOTD If you could shift into any supernatural creature, what would it be? ❓ 🦇 Now that Rose Maxwell is no longer the next Prima witch on the Supernatural Council, she's at a loss with what to do with her life. Thoughts of her impulsive, steamy one-night stand with Damian Adams, a half-Demon, still swim in her mind. After a string of dead-end jobs, she finds herself sentenced to completing community hours at an animal sanctuary—the sanctuary where Damian happens to work as a vet. Still tingling from their brief encounter together, the two develop a friends-with-benefits arrangement, certain they won't catch feelings. Unknown to Rose, Damian will lose his humanity if he falls in love. Is the stubborn, sassy witch worth that risk?
💜 April Asher's writing draws you in from the get-go, inviting you to escape into a world of Supernatural beings, magic, and lovestruck mayhem. The prose is playful, enchanting, and witty, ensuring one page rushes right into the next. The book plays like a movie (fitting, since Rose is a fan of romcoms and grand gestures) with an attention to detail that sweeps you off your feet and plops you right into Rose's witchy world. This grumpy vs sunshine pairing bring the banter and sexual chemistry, but they don't overshadow the overarching plot and singular character development. Each side character contributes to the story with their own motivations as well (which will make you all the more eager to read the other two books in the Supernatural Singles series). Don't wait until autumn; whether you're ready for romantic witchy vibes or not, Asher's writing is sure to enchant you.
🪄 The only time the spell stalled for me was when the pacing hiccuped. Each time the story seemed to pick up, it stalled again. With how much information we're given about Rose's family, I do wish we'd received more of Damian's backstory than one flashback. Maybe I'm being selfish in wanting MORE of Asher's dynamic, realistic (despite the Supernatural bloodlines) characters.
🦇 If you're an old-school fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or OG Charmed, this book is for you! And if you're not, the hijinx, laugh-out-loud humor, and heat are bound to enthrall you. This book is pure magic!
🪄 Grumpy vs Sunshine 🔮 Paranormal Romance 🪄 Witty Writing 🔮 Friends With Benefits 🪄 Bwitchy Banter
🦇 Major thanks to the author and publisher for providing an ARC of this book via Netgalley. 🥰 This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

I just reviewed Not Your Ex's Hexes by April Asher.
I really needed a romcom to break up my Halloween reading list and I couldn't have picked a better option. This was such a funny and fast read. The trope filled romance between Rose and Damian didn't disappoint. It left me hot blooded for sure.
I realized I was going to read this book out of order pretty quickly. Its the second book in the Supernatural Singles series. My reading experience wasn't hindered by this snafu. I had such fun reading this sequel that I immediately went to the library and got book #1. Can't wait for book #3.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Griffin and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Book Blurb: In April Asher’s next Supernatural Singles novel, Not Your Ex's Hexes, a one-night-stand between a willful witch and a broody half-demon conjures an adventure that wouldn’t be complete without several magical mishaps. For her entire life, Rose Maxwell trained to become the next Prima on the Supernatural Council. Now that she’s stepped down, it’s time for this witch to focus on herself. And not think about her impulsive one-night stand with Damian Adams, a half-Demon Veterinarian who she can’t get out of her head. Neither of them is looking for a relationship. But when Rose is sentenced to community service at Damian’s animal sanctuary it becomes impossible for them to ignore their sparking attraction. A friends-with-benefits, no feelings, no strings arrangement works perfectly for them both. After a sequence of dead-end jobs, it’s not until Rose tangos with two snarly demons that she thinks she’s finally found her path. However, this puts Damian back on the periphery of a world he thought he left behind. He doesn’t approve of Rose becoming a Hunter, but if there's one thing he's learned about the stubborn witch, it was telling her not to do something was one sure-fire way to make sure she did. Working—and sleeping—together awakens feelings Damian never knew he had...and shouldn't have. Because thanks to his ex's hex, if he falls in love, he'll not only lose his heart—but his humanity.
Review:
A witch who has trained to be the head of the magical council all her life but has left the position and doesnt know what to do with her life and a very grumpy half demon veterinarian come together in this story of romance, magic, curses, and cute animals. Rose Maxwell has trained to become the next Prima on the Supernatural Council... except she’s stepped down now and is taking time to figure out what she wants to do with her life. After a lifetime of training, working, and studying, she now has all the free time to finally pursue interests and finding out what works for her. After an attempted animal rescue gone wrong she finds herself being forced to volunteer with the most unexpected person... the sexy half-demon she had a one night stand with... who apparently is the owner of an animal shelter and a veterinarian. Damian Adams is a half-demon veterinarian, he gave up his life of as a hunter after being hexed by his ex. If Damian ever falls in love he will lose his soul.... so it doesn’t help when he finds himself stuck with the woman he can’t get out of his head ever since their one night stand... and now she’ll be working around him twenty four seven. Damian doesn’t do relationships, he especially doesn’t do repeats or sleep with the same person after one night, afraid that he’ll end up falling in love and losing his soul... so when Rose offers an alternative: just friends with benefits and no feelings, he can’t resist. Yet the more time they spend together the harder it gets, especially when working and sleeping together. Yet when Rose decides to take up becoming a hunter Damian can’t help but return to his old life, if only to keep her safe. Will he finally succumb to the curse and fall in love with the sweet and sunshiney woman who has taken resident in his work space and in his bed room or will he give up on the woman he is falling in love with to save his soul. This was such a cute witchy rom com, filled with amazing side characters ( seriously I can’t wait to read the next book/couple) and adorable moments. I’m a sucker for the grumpy x sunshine trope and this definitely hit the spot!
*Thanks Netgalley and St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

3. What were your top five books of the year?
In no particular order, these are my top five:
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
A Lady for A Duke by Alexis Hall
A Witches Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley
Not Your Exes Hexes by April Asher
A Court of Wings and Ruins by Sarah J. Maas
17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?
The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas surprised me. I went in expecting just a cute, quick romance read, but this book had a few more layers than I was expecting and it made me enjoy it that much more!
