"Recently, a wave of fresh paranormal romance books have hit the shelves. The real question is, which new books should you pick up?
Paranormal romance is a subgenre of romance that follows the HEA/HFN (happily ever after/ happy for now) arc of human, non-human, and/or superhuman characters. The paranormal beings involved could be ghosts, werewolves, vampires, witches, or other supernatural creatures of legend that slot into a paranormal version of our world. If it’s in a high fantasy otherworld or is a monster romance, I am following the judgment of fellow Book Riot writer Jessica Pryde in her paranormal romance recommendation list and disqualifying them from this round-up.
As a longtime fan of the genre, I have plenty of backlist recommendations and a carefully curated list of fresh paranormal romance books. Every book here was published in the last five years, between 2019 and 2024. As a general personal rule, I like my paranormal romance to have believable, well-developed characters and a plot that hooks me in. If either the love interests or plot are paper-thin, my attention swiftly drifts. So, if you are looking for a witch, werewolf, vamp, or otherwise paranormal being falling in love, I’ve decided these are the ones you should read."

Bride by Ali Hazelwood
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Misery Lark, daughter of the Vampyre council’s leader, has been forced into an alliance with the Weres in the form of a marriage. She thinks pack leader and Alpha, Lowe, must have his own reasons for entering into this marriage of convenience since Weres and Vampyres have been mortal enemies for as long as she can remember. As long as the Vampyres, and her new husband don’t suspect her real motive for getting closer to Lowe Moreland, then all is fair in love and war!
I’ll be honest and say I had no idea what to expect coming into this book—(I went in not knowing the gist) and I liked The Love Hypothesis, but I absolutely LOVED this book! It has everything I love: werewolves, marriage of convenience, witty banter, and a great subplot! I’ve heard some mixed reviews, and to address people’s concerns…this is NOT an A/B/O book. There is knotting in the spicy scenes, so maybe people were confused, mislead or disappointed? If they expected full on A/B/O romance, this is knot the book!! lol Also, if you have read Ali’s books before her female characters are super book smart, but let’s be honest sometimes are clueless with love even when it’s obvious. I find it charming! lol (hello idiots in love!)
Anyway, the banter between Misery, who is not even the most likeable character—she truly hates everyone—and Lowe who is such a quiet authoritative Alpha wolf is amazing! The side characters are great, and I liked that she branched off into a new subgenre. Pick up this book if you’re a Ali Hazelwood fan or looking for something different in your romance read. I heard someone say—this is Rennesmee’s love story with Jacob and now that’s all I’ll think of and it kills me☠️
Read if you love:
🐺Werewolves, Vampires, etc
💍 Marriage of convenience
🩸Paranormal romance

Book Blurb: A dangerous alliance between a Vampyre bride and an Alpha Werewolf becomes a love deep enough to sink your teeth into in this new paranormal romance from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Love, Theoretically and The Love Hypothesis.
Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast—again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and she sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange—again...
Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It’s clear from the way he tracks Misery’s every movement that he doesn’t trust her. If only he knew how right he was….
Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she's ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what’s hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory…alone with the wolf.
Review:
A Vampire in an arranged marriage with the ruthless Werewolf Alpha...nothing could possibly go wrong right? Misery Lark is the daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman and has been an outcast her entire life, shunned by her own kind, hated by humans and werewolves, her only true friend is her childhood companion/sister, Serena who has mysteriously disappeared leaving behind a cryptic journal with only one phrase in it as a clue : L.E. Moreland. When her father request she enter into an arranged marriage with the newly appointed Alpha of the Werewolves she wants to say no... except when she learns its none other than Lowe Moreland, she knows she has to say yes. He is the only clue to what could have happened to Serena and Misery will do anything to find her sister. Yet this marriage is meant to ensure a peace treaty between the vampyres and the werewolves, essentially forcing Misery into being a hostage living in Lowe's home for a year. Misery knows Lowe has a mate despite agreeing to marry her, yet the closer the grow the more confusing their feelings become. It doesn't help that their marriage has it's own politics to deal with, from werewolves and vampires wanting to assassinate either one of them and Lowe being hot and cold with his feelings. Misery just wants to find her sister, yet the longer she stays with Lowe the more she finds herself opening her heart to the very wolf she never expected to fall for... but can she be with him when he has a mate... or is he keeping another secret from her? This was a really fun vampire/werewolf and fated mates romance. I loved Misery, she's fun and cute, I love how caring she is and how she's willing to give everyone a chance, despite being hurt by so many people in her life. Lowe is a great love interest and I wanted to shake him at times and tell him " JUST TELL HER " but overall I could see what his mentality was and how he cared for her so much that he wanted to put her needs and feelings above his. They really had a sweet romance. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE, I AM LOOKING AT YOU KOEN AND SERENA. The book was a bit slow to get into and the romance itself was really slow burn ( not picking up at all until the 50% mark) but once it gets going, it gets going and I loved it. I really enjoyed the world that Ali created and am excited to see where she goes next with these werewolves and vampyres! if you enjoy paranormal romances with fun protagonists and swoony love interests, definitely give this a go, this was such a fun read!
*Thanks Netgalley and Berkley Publishing Group, Berkley for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

i started Bride by Ali Hazelwood and while i am really enjoying it, i’m also incredibly amazed by how lame she’s managed to make vampires. they have no magic or immortality or powers. they’re just corpogoths with porphyria.
