WIP WTuesday

DAI Era Niall + Orsino WIP (featuring Anders mention 😊 🎉 ):

"I have a healer in mind, though he may be difficult to convince. He is a bit… reclusive." Orsino paused, a deep scowl pulling his lips at the corner. "I do not wish to risk his safety, but the situation is dire. It would be selfish not to ask for his help. Hunting is not a mage's specialty, though we've fared well enough so far. But we cannot live off rabbit and roots forever. Larger game would be ideal, not just for the meat but the hides as well. We should also consider storing our firewood somewhere dry before the first snow falls." Niall nodded, following along, though his mind snagged on one detail in particular. "This healer… a mage, then?" "Yes, and a spirit healer. A skilled one, if my memory serves. He will be invaluable, should a sickness or injury arise." He hesitated, his brow drawn tight. "Should he refuse, he may have still have some connections of his own." Niall looked out across the encampment to the clusters of worn canvas tents, the smoke from their campfires, the children chasing each other around, laughter echoing. He was wary of this healer, but far more foreboding was the coming winter. Orsino was right, they needed to act. "Then we should start with him." "We should not be hasty. It would not do to put him in harm's way. Let me send word first." He nodded his assent, hoping they weren't already too late. “When you’ve made contact, let me know. In the meantime I should probably—” "And another thing, if you have a moment," Orsino said, catching him by the arm before he could turn away. For as willowy as he was, his grip was firm. Niall's fingers flexed, but he remained still. "Yes?" "Have you been feeling alright?" he asked, letting his hand drop. Niall's shoulders drew inward and the walls erected within. "As well as one could in these times," he replied, his tone clipped and eyes narrowed. "Why?" "I was merely concerned." He paused as if waiting for permission to continue, but when Niall offered none he proceeded still. "I have noticed that lately you have seemed troubled. If you wish to talk…" He let the sentiment linger in invitation. "I don't." The words were sharper than intended. He exhaled, deflating. "Not now," he amended, a touch gentler this time. "Perhaps another time. We've far more to worry about than feelings, what of the winter? The healer? I have other work to do." "Right. Forgive me, I might have overstepped. " Orsino hesitated, looking for once uncertain. "Well, I should contact the healer. Excuse me." With heavy thoughts, Niall watched him go without a word to stop him. He knew the man meant well, but he was tired of talking, of reliving his past when the present was burden enough. He did not feel the strength to bare his soul, to unravel all the knots within, no matter how well-intentioned his would-be confidant. It was better not to think, not to dwell. If he could but put one foot in front of the other, if he could forget himself in the monotony of their days, he could survive.

Update on my fhanders longfic wip, plans to begin posting chapter per chapter, and (new) beta-readers needed

Some of you might know/remember that I've been working on an epic long fhanders fic wip for more than a year. It's a novelization of DA2 that will expand into DAI with heavy focus on Anders and Marian Hawke and their relationship as well as the boiling tension between mages and everyone who don't want them to be free and Anders' work as a healer and activist of the underground resistance movement. It's a pretty pro-Anders, pro-mage and anti-templars/chantry fic.

The first part, that is DA2, it's narrated on first person POV solely from Marian's POV (with two interludes between acts from a third person POV from Anders), and the second part, that is DAI, will be narrated solely from Anders' first person POV and again with interludes between acts from Marian's third person POV.

I've been sharing some of it through the writeblr games of "wip wednesday/whenever" and the like. Currently I'm in the middle of act 2 of DA2 and I'm in chapter 43 (and I still have so much more to write🥲).

As I write in my native Spanish, I'm translating it into English as I go and I'm having both versions beta-read... but the latter it's slow because people have irl stuff to take care of so I'd love to have new beta-readers, both for the Spanish and English versions. From the English beta-readers I need someone who corrects my translation, points out whatever needs rewriting or rephrasing, suggests more suitable word choices or expressions in English to better express what I mean and everything else related to improving my translation to best express the original meaning.

I usually post my (long)fics only once they're finished, but with this one, I see it will take a long while to do so and I'd really love to have some feedback to keep me going. So I've been thinking in breaking my tradition and just begin uploading chapter per chapter, both the original Spanish version as well as the English translation, but for that to work I'd love to count with beta-readers who are there for the long haul and who can check in with me at least once per week so we can advance in the project and I can bounce ideas with them. It's a monster longfic wip so if anyone is interested in helping me, please only reach out if you know you have the time and energy to do so. I know there are many Anders fans among my mutuals and some of them even happen to be writers. Still, even if we're not mutuals, if what you've read here peaks your interest, if you're an Anders stan and are willing and able to help me beta-read, then I'd love to hear from you😊

Actualización sobre mi fic en curso de fhanders (Dragon Age), planes para publicar capítulo por capítulo y búsqueda de (nuevos) lectores beta.

Algunos de ustedes quizás sepan o recuerden que he estado trabajando en un fanfic de fhanders épicamente largo por más de un año. Es una novelización de Dragon Age 2 que se expandirá hacia Dragon Age Inquisition con fuerte enfoque en la relación entre Anders y Marian Hawke, así como también la tensión entre los magos y todo aquel que se opone a su liberdad, y el trabajo de Anders como curandero y activista del movimiento de resistencia subterráneo. Es un fanfic muy pro-Anders, pro-magos y anti-templarios/capilla.

La primera parte, o sea DA2, está narrada en primera persona solamente desde el punto de vista de Marian (con dos interludios entre los actos desde la tercera persona y el punto de vista de Anders). Y la segunda parte, o sea DAI, será narrada solamente desde la primera persona y el punto de vista de Anders, y también tendrá interludios entre actos en la tercera persona y desde el punto de vista de Marian.

He estado compartiendo partes del borrador en los juegos de writeblr como "wip wednesday/whenever" y similares. Actualmente voy en el medio del segundo acto de DA2 y en el capítulo 43 (y todavía me falta tanto por escribir🥲)

A la par de escribir en mi español nativo, también voy traduciendo al inglés y ambas versiones están siendo beteadas al mismo tiempo… pero esto último va lento porque la gente tiene una vida real de la que se tiene que encargar así que me encantaría tener nuevos lectores betas, tanto para la versión en español como también para la de inglés. De los lectores beta en español necesito alguien que corrija errores ortográficos o de sintaxis, como también que me ayude a pulir mi español, por ejemplo al avistar localismos de Latinoamérica y sugerir su equivalente español. La traducción al español de estos vídeojuegos utiliza el voseo reverencial, y es esa voz la que estoy utilizando, junto con escribir en castellano y tratar de limitar al máximo mi propia forma latina de escritura en favor de una española/europea (porque así es la traducción y me gustaría ser fiel a eso - además, le viene bien para el género de fantasía ligeramente basada en el tiempo medieval).

Normalmente suelo publicar mis fanfics largos sólo una vez que están terminados, pero con este estoy viendo que me tomará mucho tiempo en acabarlo, y me encantaría tener algo de feedback que me motive a continuar. Así que he estado pensando en romper con mi tradición y simplemente comenzar a publicar capítulo por capítulo, tanto la versión en español como la de inglés. Pero para que eso funcione me gustaría contar con lectores beta que me acompañen durante el largo camino y que puedan mantenerse en contacto conmigo al menos una vez a la semana para avanzar en el proyecto y discutir ideas con ellos. Este proyecto de fanfic es monstruosamente largo así que si alguien está interesado/a en ayudarme, porfa sólo comunícate conmigo si sabes que cuentas con el tiempo y la energía para hacerlo. Sé que hay muchos fans de Anders entre mis mutuals y que algunos de ellos incluso son escritores (¡incluso entre los que hablan español!). Pero incluso si no somos mutuals, si lo que has leído aquí te ha interesado, si eres un/a fan de Anders y estás dispuesto/a a ayudarme a betear este borrador, entonces me encantaría saber de ti😊.

I love DA, but it’s depressing how sexist Thedas is. Despite women

having the same roles as men, f!Warden gets plenty of NPCs expressing shock or mockery at her being a Warden/fighter. She can even say “I swear I’m the bravest one here and I’m a woman!” at her Joining. Then there’s the dwarven system, Isabela being called a whore for her promiscuity, and the sheer amout of rape (against women) plots in the DA world - including darkspawn breeding.
