Ok so I didn’t know exactly how to word this particular genre of Harry Potter fanfiction, but I have been reading some fanfics where either the teachers, Sirius or the golden trio find out that Harry has been abused by the Dursley’s and how Harry deals or heals from that trauma. #cupboardreveal

so therefore below is a list of fanfics that deal with this topic, this is pretty obvious but TW for child abuse, some of these I haven’t read yet so i don’t think any of them feature active abuse, more so past abuse.

i wish there were more harry & sirius fics that didn’t feature wolfstar, or sirius/anyone really.

i’m not a huge fan of any of the ships sirius is usually involved in, but in my opinion—sirius is simply too…broken to even THINK about having a romantic relationship. he’s on the run from the Ministry, he’s just escaped after 12 years of literal hell on earth—only to be trapped in the house of his traumatic childhood; not to mention he has to deal with the fact that the entire Order and one of his close friends wholeheartedly believed he was a mass murderer and that he would really betray james.

oh, also—it was his idea to switch secret keepers. something totally non consequential that would have nooooo effect on him in the presence of magical creatures designed to dredge up your worst memories and torment you with them xD

at this point, harry really is his only purpose in life. and he can’t even focus on THAT properly because of how absolutely miserable he is.

sirius black is such an interesting character, and part of the appeal to me is just how doomed by the narrative he is. for all intents and purposes, sirius also died on that terrible night in 1981. he has no prospects, his entire life was stolen from him, and he can’t even fulfill the one purpose he has anymore because he was so intensely fucked over twelve years ago. his entire life, his escape AND his death…was just…pointless. and that’s so fucking tragic it makes me want to curl up and die. and also read a million fics about the short period of time he DID have with harry.

i just wish there were more fics that really dug into this incredible, incredible character, instead of just sticking him into a relationship

Maturing is realizing that Molly Weasley was not a good mother to her children. Conditional love is not actually love (EX: Percy, the twins, etc) and unless they conformed to her ideas of what they should do, they were harassed or neglected. (EX: all of her children). I loved her in the first books, but the older I get the more I recognize that she’s toxic.

HP thoughts and headcanons

I just read again the whole HP series and I've fallen into my HP phase

Firstly I started thinking about one line Dumbledore has in the seventh book; the sorting is too early. I would love au, where the kids are sorted later, like in the fourth or fifth year. It would make the relationships between houses much better.

Some headcanons now:

I love to think that Ron and Neville are actually great friends. Like they both give me 'im insecure, but my friends can't be insecure' vibe. They would be safe person to each other.

Okay, I know this is controversial, but I think that Molly is a bad mother to some of her children. Not all of them but some of them. I understand that Harry needs a motherly figure, but she treats him better than Ron, Fred and George. Like these three are just so overlooked by her.

Most of these headcanons are about Ron, bcs he deserves the world, and I won't stand any ron weasley bashing. He loves cooking, especially baking. Like he would give his friends some baked goods as presents bcs he could not afford to buy presents. He would be really nervous about it, but his friends would love the treats. I also see him opening a bakery in the future bcs tbh he isn't auror material.

Also, I love good brother Percy. He has a specific way of supporting his brothers, but he would stand with them against the world.

One last thing, in deathly hallows, none of the Slytherins stayed for the battle, and I think that's bullshit. Just because Harry thinks every Slytherin is bad, it doesn't mean all of them are bad. Some of them would stay. Like in the same book, Harry tells his son that it's okay to be Slytherin, and it doesn't mean he is bad. A few chapters back, he called all the Slytherins cowards. I hate this. Some of them would stay. Fight me on this.

Don’t get me wrong I like Molly well enough, but honestly I don’t understand why everyone loves her. She doesn’t seem great.

Hear me out!!! Before you get mad, let me explain…

She constantly degrades her children, comparing them to each othe. She is always shaming them when they don’t reach her expectations.

Bill: his job is too dangerous, she doesn’t like his wife, she doesn’t like his earring. YET, he is the top curse breaker for gringotts, and gets not credit for it.

Charlie: His hair is too long, his job is too dangerous, he doesn’t come home often enough. YET, he is one of the best dragon trainers, and gets no praise.

Percy: apparently he is perfect, even though he left home and pretty much called them all losers.

Fred & George: they don’t focus on school enough, they cause too much trouble, they aren’t smart. YET, they are incredibly intelligent, there is no way they could create those pranks without serious skill, still not praise or credit.

Ron: he isn’t smart enough, he hasn’t accomplished anything his brothers have. YET, he helped save the wizarding world countless times alongside Harry, he gets credit though.

Ginny: well she’s just perfect, all because she’s the only girl.

Even with her own husband, she is always pushing him around, never listening to him. She makes demands and talks for him.

I’m not saying she isn’t a good mother, and i’m not saying I hate her character, I just think she doesn’t appreciate her children enough for who they are. She took in Harry, and that was wonderful, but what about her kids?

She’s always trying to mold each of her children into something that they aren’t. She wants each of them to be respectable ministry workers, even if that’s not what they want.

Personally, I am not a mother, but I think what any good mother should be accepting of their children. I don’t think a good mother should point out all of her children’s shortcomings, while ignoring their accomplishments.

i hate character bashing in fanfiction so much it's nothing but a lazy excuse to have a scape goat for everything antagonizing and outright bad reading and writing skills

having characters (even the ones you don't like) as full flashed elements of the narrative is much more interesting and compelling to the reader, not to mention it makes more sense when there's actual motivation or contradiction in the way your antagonist thinks and acts

(one minute of silence for all of the ron weasley bashing tags that live alongside good draco malfoy tag and so on) (another minute for the marauders fics that completely erase peter and snape because the author is lazy) (dumbledore bashing and yknow what maybe voldemort isn't as bad as we think but it's also a dark harry au so he is supposed to be as bad as we think) (anti molly but the reasoning is a conspiracy that makes less sense than death eater hagrid)
