Just like Allan or Midge, you were one of a kind. A new doll to grace the streets of Barbieland... how exciting!

You were quickly one of the boys, getting along immediately especially with Allan and... one blondie named Ken.

Your favorite place in town was the beach, so you naturally became friends first with beach Ken (you know... the one whose job was to beach).

At the beginning he was shy, but soon warmed up to you as you seemed to get him. He even asked for advice on some personal problems.

For example, there was something about him bringing patriarchy to Barbieland and brainwashing all Barbies a few months ago... yeah, he still needed to address that. But after some help with his guilt and long apologies to each and every Barbie, he started feeling more like himself.

You liked his personality, he was funny and charming and always excited about his favorite activities. It was truly enjoyable watching him do his thing, and you weren't afraid to let him know that.

"Good job, Ken!" or "Keep going!" made part of your daily vocabulary.

And oh, he noticed that. I mean, his other Ken friends also hyped him up but... you actually felt so genuine, so... different somehow.

For whatever reason, Ken began feeling jealous of you. He hated seeing you compliment any other Kens or Barbies... He just felt possessive and he didn't know why. You were just his friend, after all...

But one day he snapped once he saw you sharing a laugh with Simu!Ken, joking around innocently. He grabbed you by the wrist and took you to his Mojo Dojo Casa House, where he could have you all by himself.

You thought to yourself that maybe he was acting jealous, but you didn't want to create any expectations... You could be one of a kind but you were still a boy doll, not a Barbie...

In reality, you really liked him... and were not sure where to put so many feelings all of a sudden. You wanted to be his boyfriend, but that just felt weird, right? To want to hold his hand and walk around with matching clothes, to call him 'love' and 'baby' and even... kiss him...

NO. You couldn't think that! That was ridiculous, and it would never happen anyway... he didn't want you.

Or so you thought.

At his house, you were sitting side by side listening to music when Ken decided to look at you. Focused on the lyrics, you didn't notice him staring, looking at your perfect hair and beautiful eyes, and... inviting lips.

He felt crazy, completely out of his mind! What was going on with his feelings? A few months ago he was simping for Barbie and now... now he wanted you. He felt seen by you and that made his chest ache (weird).

The reality was, Ken liked Barbie because that was what he was made for... but now that he was free, he liked you because... because he chose you.

In an involuntary motion, he moved his hand to brush yours. The touch was swift but electric, and you both felt it.

You quickly shot a look at him, confusion and hope mixing inside you... but as soon as he touched your hand, he was up and gone.

"Ah, sorry... I-I have to... I have to go." He stumbled out of the room and ran outside, not looking back.

You were left sad and confused, did you do something wrong? Was it just a mistake? You didn't know...

After what seemed like a couple of hours, you decided to go to the beach to ease your mind a bit. The sun was setting and there shouldn't be a lot of people to disturb you.

But Ken was there, playing his guitar. You walked slowly so you didn't startle him, and gently sat by his side. He immediately stopped playing, looking at you with big blue eyes. "Hey..."

"Hey... May I?" you responded, pointing at his guitar. He nodded, handing it over to you.

You started playing a Hozier song, you figured he wouldn't know it, and you hoped he picked up on the message.

"I will not ask you where you came from I will not ask you, neither should you Honey just put your sweet lips on my lips We should just kiss like real people do."

You looked at his eyes while singing, and immediately felt a shift in the air. His teary eyes shone while he admired your face, your voice... you were singing to him, right? He couldn't possibly be this delusional.

After you were done, you quickly got up to leave but were interrupted by a hold on your hand, pulling you down.

"(Y/N)! Don't go just yet..." You sat down again, face burning with sudden embarrassment. You couldn't believe you had played guitar to him, but you did!

Ken looked at you in awe, not knowing what to say. His head was full of a thousand things he wanted to confess but, nothing could evoke what he felt just right.

He looked down and up at your eyes again a few times before deciding... suddenly he grabbed both sides of your face and kissed you tenderly.

You were shocked at first, but not a few moments later started kissing him back, lips gently meeting each other in tandem.

When you finally parted, Ken breathed a sigh of relief, smiling while taking your hands in his. "No one has ever played the guitar for me before..."

"Well, I'm here for whatever you need me." You grinned back, squeezing his hands gently. "I've always been here..."

"I know, baby boy. I know..." You laughed a little at the way he called you, drawing a big smile from him. "You like that? Baby boy?"

"I'm fine with that, sure..." You continued to grin, holding his hands while admiring his face. He looked so beautiful when he was happy...

"Woo woo! Go get it, boys!" A sudden voice cheered from the sea, Mermaid!Barbie rising her arms in excitement as she looked at you both before disappearing again into the sea.

You and Ken laughed hysterically at the scene... and for the rest of the night, he never released your hand from his.

more sterek fic recs - all completed

finally, some more sterek! enjoy :)

quiet perfection by hyperlittlenori - this is one of my favourite sterek fics ever, it's honestly one of the softest things i've ever read and it has me grinning from ear to ear every single time i read it. it's an AU with a deaf derek and a sign speaking stiles. they meet for the first time at the station and are instantly enamoured with each other. all i want is for this fic to become a series, i just want more of them.

chasing slumber by hyperlittlenori - another fic by this author! this is some of the most intense sterek smut i've ever read in my life, i literally forgot to breathe during it. the boys use sex to cope but it's a lot healthier than it sounds, i swear. there's also a lot of fluff, i love this one so much. this authors writing is immaculate.

from love not lust by hyperlittlenori - another one, i know! this one is just really simple and sweet. the boys fall in love through book annotations and it's so extremely soft. asexual derek is beautiful.

deaton's dream beans by thenerdnextdoor - a coffeeshop/bookstore AU! derek is a brooding hermit who owns a bookstore and stiles is an obnoxious but adorable barista who's trying to start a war with a rival coffee shop. this is such a fun story, with a tiny bit of angst and a whole lot of fluff. also, background thiam! i've read this multiple times, it's just so silly.

i ain't scared of your teeth by antisepticdork - stiles gets attacked by harpies, derek gets growly about it, they fall in like. this one is very much a 'monster of the week' fic, very chill and a bit goofy.

we've written volumes (in blood and scars and ink) by notthequiettype - stiles gets attacked by the alpha pack and derek nurses him back to health with a whole lotta werewolf healing mojo. solid banter, minor smut and a lot of fluff.

you saw me standing alone by orphan account - so obviously i like fics where stiles gets hurt and derek plays the sexy nurse, because here's another one! this is such a sweet fic, and the smut at the end is A+, slutty bottom derek is one of my favourite flavours of derek. he mewls, guys. mewls.

this is ridiculous by zosofi - a pining derek, a bloodthirsty, virgin killing unicorn and an oblivious, virginal stiles stilinski. this fic is so goofy and i love it.

warm shadows by stilinskisparkles - stiles gets hurt after another kidnapping and derek offers to help him out while he heals. a zero angst fic with some great banter and an evil peter hale thrown into the mix. these boys are so in love i wanna scream.

hear it in the silence by elisela - post season six fic where stiles and derek are best friends. stiles drags derek along on an impromptu road trip to escape the pressure of college and they realise they're in love along the way. such a romantic fic with top tier healthy communication, it's just a really beautiful story about falling in love with your best friend.

And then they don't wait for an answer.

He seemed happy enough anyway, coming to the docks, coming to the paths. He bought apples, he spoke Gusu’s dialect in a rustic tongue that was many, many years out of date—ancient, prosperous. Only a few elders understood the clicking accent the way Wuxian spoke it. He was Lan Wangji’s sole companion. He was also the being who had been cursed many years ago to never wake up, and never live. Lan Wangji wished to help fix that. (or: cangse sanren’s child is a ghost of nature, and cursed to sleep forever. a boy still makes friends with the ghost anyway.)

His long, pitch-black hair was pulled into a ponytail that flowed in smooth waves over his shoulder, and he was clad in a red dress shirt that was buttoned only halfway up his chest, exposing his sharp collar bones and a hint of the smooth skin of his torso. He was pale - too pale. And he had the most striking grey eyes Lan Wangji had ever seen. Eyes that immediately betrayed him as a nonhuman. As a cold, powerful, immortal vampire that Lan Wangji was about to sell himself to. OR Lan Wangji enters into a contract to become Wei Wuxian's blood thrall to save his uncle, and finds more than a heartless vampire at the end of the deal.

2023 in review - recs & highlights

Happy New Year and thank you @sorrybutblog for the tag 🥂I wasn’t very active in 2023 tbh, after May I couldn’t find time or inspiration to read new things or write single recs so I focused on list requests instead. But I’m very proud of all the little things I’ve accomplished! They’ve brought me so much joy and I’m pleased with how they came about. I’m sharing below my personal highlights and would to see everyone else’s. Consider this an open tag and feel free to @ me!

✨this year I jumped right back into my anime & manga phase (I’ve loved it for as long as I’ve loved Drarry) and it’s been a thrill to discover and revisit some top notch BL stories. I did two reclists (part 1 and part 2) for fun without really expecting any interest but the feedback was so lovely I’m now planning a part 3!

✨ got so many special gifts! I was absolutely mindblown by @epitomereally’s lovely and creative LA, Who Am I To Love You? for my Wireless prompt; I got hot and bothered over this delicious nsfw art by @maesterchill; and fell deeper in love with Harry/Ron thanks to @writcraft’s stunning Can’t Start a Fire Without a Spark. I’m so lucky to have these wonderful and talented friends! thank you ❤️

DANCING IN THE DARK | @arcielee | a tom bennett x ofc short story set during season 1 of world on fire. i am an avid lover of historical fictions, especially stories related to world war one and two - so reading DITD made me feel like i was reading one of the novels i just adore. arcie has such a way with using words and creating such beautiful compositions - it just makes your heart melt. the budding romance between tom and vera is *chef kiss*, and it being an open ending just makes you smile because you pray for a hea.

WE WERE SOMETHING DON'T YOU THINK SO? | @inthedayswhenlandswerefew | a ben hardy x ofc story. this is one of the fics that just comes to haunt me - in a good way. a historical fiction inspired by the russian revolution and the story of the romanov? sign me up. this was such a beautiful story, it makes you cry and hope for the oc and for ben. || another one that just struck me: HAVE YOU NO IDEA THAT YOU'RE IN DEEP?. a HOTD with aemond x reader. this one killed me and i think of it often because i'm still crying over it, but fck it was good. it's one of the stories that just sucks you in and makes you scream at the top of your lungs from all the emotional rollercoaster.

WOLF-HEART | @gemini-mama | a finan x ofc fic set during the time gap in season 2. this was such a great read - faoladhean has become one of the ocs i love so much. the multi-chaptered fic was written with such detail and with such careful descriptions, the relationship between finan and faoladhean blossomed so beautifully, i was completely smitten. and she has such strength and such love to give, i can't wait to see where the sequel goes. She-Wolf for the win.

i know it says 3, but i don't think i'll be getting another one, so i need to add more or i'mma explode.

CRIMES OF PASSION | @itbmojojoejo | RUNA. i love you. a take of 50's London with the tlk crew? a love triangle between between our ofc, sihtric and finan? fck yes. bring it on. mojo created an oc that just makes you wish you knew her in real life. she is wild - which i adore - and the pacing of the story, the characters, the dynamic. love it all. can't wait to see the ending. i know i will cry, i got tissues ready. RUNA. let's be friends?

A THOUSAND YEARS | @persephones-journey | a staple for finan x oc fics, this series was one of the first i stumbled upon when i started reading tlk fics and i immediately fell in love. the level of angst and passion these stories have - the relationship between finan and aisling, all their ups and downs - it has your heart doing somersaults in all kinds of direction. the level of dedication to expand this au is amazing and i love every word of it. aisling has become one of my fave ocs - a fiery character, hardheaded, stubborn and yet has such a big heart. i can't wait to see where her story goes.

FIRE IN HER EYES | @emilyhufflepufftlk | another tlk series, a beautiful love story between finan x lucinda. these stories broke my heart in so many ways and yet i could not get enough of them. i loved the story and development of the relationship between finan and lucinda and i also loved her sisters and the family they created - this was done beautifully and worth the heartache and tears. lucinda had such love from finan, her children and from everyone around her - you wished you were part of it all.
