parenthood blurb: new year's eve
a/n: happy new year, everyone!! i hope you guys all celebrate in a safe, happy, fun way! wishing you all so much love and happiness in the new year. i hope you enjoy this one. xoxo

Rarely ever do you describe yourself as smug. However, standing at the threshold of your kitchen, pressed against the wall shamelessly as you listen to the conversation between Josie and two of her friends, you’d definitely say you’re feeling smug.
“That’s disgusting,” Josie groans, and you can hear her as she rummages through the refrigerator, “He’s literally my dad.”
“My mom called him handsome the other day when he picked you up from cheer,” Kat, Josie’s best friend, cuts in.
You can practically hear Josie roll her eyes, “Your mom? Seriously?”
“She’s right, though,” April cuts in, “And, have you seen the way he treats Mrs. Cameron? Josie, I’d die if a man ever looked at me the way your dad looks at your mom.”
“You guys,” Josie groans, her voice muffled by the food she’s eating, “He’s always acted like that around her. It’s gross.”
You snort, but immediately smack your hand over your mouth to cover it. The girls don’t seem to notice; too wrapped up in their conversation.
“I’m just saying,” Kat continues, “I saw him mowing the lawn the other day without a shirt on—”
“Really?” April gasps.
“Stop!” Josie exclaims, listening to both the girls giggle.
“Shut up, Jo,” Kat shakes her head, “I saw you looking at Margo’s older brother at practice yesterday.”
“The football coach?” April asks.
Josie rolls her eyes, “That’s different.”
“Not really. He’s twenty-six.”
“Okay,” she mutters, “My dad’s older than that. And, he’s my dad. And, I was just looking.”
“Well,” Kat shrugs, “I was just looking at your dad, then.”
April cuts in, “Can’t blame her, Jo. Especially with the scruff and the—”
The girls all freeze when the garage door opens, and you snicker when they erupt in whispers and giggles. Oblivious to it all, you picture Rafe making his way into the kitchen, tossing the mail and his keys onto the counter before he spots the girls.
“Hey, ladies,” he greets casually, “What are you guys up to?”
As predicted, Kat and April go completely silent. Josie scoffs, which you hear, then turns to Rafe.
“Just talking, Dad,” she replies.
“Alright, I get it, I’ll go,” Rafe says, then adds, “Hey, are you guys sure you don’t just want to spend New Year’s Eve here? We’re going to order pizza and have champagne at midnight and—”
“We’re fine,” Josie interrupts, “Thanks.”
“Um—” April starts to object, but Josie silences her.
“We’re fine.”
“I just heard the parties are gonna be lame,” Rafe continues, and you shake your head at his lame attempt to keep Josie home, where he knows she’s safe.
Josie snorts, “Goodbye, Dad.”
“Alright,” Rafe grunts, “Has your mom eaten, Jo?”
Kat lets out a small ‘aw’, earning a glare from Josie and a small chuckle from you.
“I don’t know.”
Rafe nods, “Okay. Have fun, girls.”
They all give him random, quiet replies, and when Rafe rounds the corner and spots you pressed against the wall, his brows furrow.
“Sweetheart, what are you—”
“Shh,” you hiss, grabbing him and yanking him away from the kitchen, “Don’t give me away.”
His eyes widen, “Are you eavesdropping on our daughter?”
“Of course I am,” you whisper, “Don’t act like you’re all high and mighty.”
He snickers, “Okay, fair. What were they talking about?”
You bite your lip as you look up at him, and when he presses his body even further into yours, you seem to lose all train of thought. Seeing this, Rafe smirks and cups your chin in his palm, angling you up to look at him.
“Nothing,” you lie, “Just being girls.”
“Mhm,” he hums, clearly not believing you, but taking it in a different direction, “Are they talking about tonight? Is she scheming?”
You shake your head, knowing how worried he is about both of the kids tonight. He seems to relax at this, and you pull him closer instinctively.
“She’s gonna be fine, Rafe, she’s a good kid. They both are.”
He nods slowly, “I know, I know. It’s not her I don’t trust.”
You nod in understanding, and in order to lighten him up, you start to tease him.
“What makes you think Josie’s the only kid who might be scheming, huh?” you laugh.
“Connor doesn’t lie,” Rafe replies, confident, “He can’t. Especially to you.”
Your heart tugs at Rafe’s confession, because you know it’s true. You just don’t like to admit it, because you’re afraid it will embarrass Connor. He’s never been a good liar, mostly because of his strong moral compass. But, with you, he always cracks.
Your lips form a pout as you grab a fistful of Rafe’s shirt, suddenly dying for him to be even closer; completely pressed against you.
“He’s like his dad in that way,” you practically whisper.
Rafe sucks in a deep, unsteady breath, then slowly nods his head. His eyes never leave yours, and all of the sudden, you know exactly what his plans are for the remainder of the night — when the two of you are left alone to ring in the new year.
“Yes, he is,” Rafe replies, his voice low, “I’ve never been able to fool you, have I, baby?”
“No,” you grin, “Besides all those years you were in love with me.”
He laughs then, and it’s a big, wide smile. The sound gives the two of you away, and just as Rafe leans in to kiss you, Josie rounds the corner with April and Kat peeking behind her.
“Oh, my God,” she groans, rolling her eyes at the way Rafe has you pressed against the wall, clearly about to kiss you, “You guys are—-”
“Careful, princess,” Rafe lectures, “Do you want me to put those shelves up in your room? Because if so—”
“Fine, I won’t say anything,” she grumbles.
You turn and look over at your daughter, who has her arms crossed and eyes rolled. Kat and April, on the other hand, drop their eyes when you look at them, but you can see how bashful they are. Kat steals another glance, eyeing the way Rafe’s eyes never leave your face. Not even for a second.
You look back up at Rafe and silently tell him that the moment has passed, which only makes him smirk wider. Then, he drops his hand from your chin and places it on your back, tugging you into him while he turns to talk to the girls.
“What time are you guys heading out?” he asks.
“We’re going to Kat’s first,” Josie answers, “In, like, an hour.”
“What does like an hour mean?” Rafe teases her.
Josie’s eyes roll, and you have half a mind to tell her they might get stuck like that if she continues. Instead of acknowledging Rafe, Josie turns back to her friends, who both stand up straight, as if she’s caught them staring at her dad.
“Let’s just go now,” she tells them, then turns back to the two of you, “Can one of you drive us?”
Rafe grins widely, and you know exactly what he’s going to say before he says it.
“We both can.”
Josie sighs, “Great. I’ll go get my stuff.”
Kat and April follow Josie to the stairs, and once the girls are gone, Rafe looks to you. Still pressed against the wall; still silently begging to be kissed.
“That okay?” he asks quietly.
“Yes.”
“Good,” he smiles, “I’m selfish, but I don’t care. I want you close to me.”
You chuckle, “Well, that’s good. I wouldn’t want the most handsome dad at cheer pickup to not be close to me.”
He furrows his brows, staring down at you in confusion. When you laugh, clearly in on a joke that he doesn’t recognize, he questions you.
“Am I missing something?”
“No, no,” you tease, “Not a thing. You’re just sexy, that’s all.”
He shakes his head, resigning to not understanding. As if unable to control himself, he pecks your cheek, drawing back only an inch to speak.
“Only when I’m standing next to you,” he whispers.
You’re unable to reply, because he presses his lips on yours before you can. His hands wander down your back, and just as he grabs hold of your ass, Josie’s bedroom door opens again. Her voice is hushed, but you can still make out the words she says to the girls before they start down the stairs.
“Don’t tell my parents,” she whispers.
You exchange a look with Rafe, raising both your brows in suspicion. His face falls as he looks over to the bottom of the stairs, practically begging her to come down and say she was just messing with them.
“Josie, they’re cool.”
“Kat, they’ll lecture,” she hisses.
“Whatever,” Kat mutters, “Let’s just go.”
The three descend down the stairs, and Rafe pushes off of you when he sees her. She has a backpack over her shoulder, her hair has been brushed, and she changed her jeans. He takes this in and gives her a small smile, then steps toward the girls.
“Hey, princess,” he says, and only you can detect the emotion in his voice, “Ready to go?”
Josie nods once, “Yep.”
Rafe glances back at you, as if asking what his move should be. You nod your head, telling him that it’s okay, and he reluctantly agrees.
“Okay,” he says, “Let’s go.”
The girls file in the car one by one, all of them watching as Rafe opens the passenger door for you and gives you a kiss once he’s inside. As he drives, the girls whisper back and forth in the backseat, while Rafe grips your hand as if his life depends on it.
Oddly enough, you feel at peace with Josie wanting to go to a party with her friends. You trust that you’ve given her all of the tools she needs, that she knows she can call you if she gets into trouble, regardless of what she tells her friends. You know her unwillingness to share information about her night with you and Rafe is natural; even if it’s driving Rafe slowly insane. His jaw is clenched and his hand is tight around the steering wheel, turning his knuckles white. You squeeze his hand and earn his eyes, giving him a small, encouraging smile.
“It’s okay,” you whisper.
He nods, but it’s unconvincing.
When he pulls into Kat’s driveway, the girls thank you for the ride as they file out of the car. You expect to remain inside, but when Rafe hops out, you look to see what he’s doing. Josie stands with her bag over her shoulder, watching as Rafe calls her back to him. You can hear his words to her only because he’d rolled his window down, and you wonder if he did that for you intentionally.
“Be careful tonight, princess,” he practically begs, taking her hand, “You can call me or your mom if you need anything. I know you know that.”
Josie nods impatiently, “I know, Dad.”
She tries to pull away, but Rafe pulls her back and forces her to look up at him.
“Hey,” he says softly, “I’m serious. I’m not trying to lecture you, Jo. You’re my girl, and I worry about you.”
Josie’s eyes soften, and Rafe practically melts when she steps closer to him.
“I’ll be okay, Dad. I’ll call you if I need you.”
Her words seem to calm him, and before he can help himself, he pulls her in for a hug.
“I love you so much,” Rafe tells her.
“Dad,” she groans.
You laugh, watching as she pulls away from him. He lets her go after a minute, then waves to Kat and April, who are waiting further up the driveway. To your surprise, Josie ducks her head into the car and gives you a smile.
“See you tomorrow, Mom,” she says.
“Okay, honey. Have fun,” you reply, “Love you.”
She looks between you and Rafe, “Love you both, too.”
You smile and wave, watching as she walks away from both of you. Rafe climbs back in the car and sighs, tossing his head back against the headrest.
“I think that’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” he mumbles, “Letting her go like that. Should we drive by Matt’s and check on Connor?”
“Rafe,” you laugh, “He’s fine. They both are.”
“But, she said—”
“I know,” you stop him, taking his hand, “It’s natural for her to not want to tell us every detail of her plans. But, like you said, we trust her.”
Slowly, he nods, then squeezes your hand, “Okay, you’re right. She’ll be okay. Maybe we could just call Connor. Check on him.”
“Stop,” you shake your head, “Let’s let him be.”
Rafe puffs out his cheeks, then agrees and shifts gears, putting the car in reverse.
“I guess my only choice is to take you home and love on you,” he teases, kissing your cheek before looking over his shoulder, backing out of the driveway.
“I guess,” you smile.
Even though you tell Rafe to leave Connor be, a part of you just needs to hear from him. As Rafe drives, you pull out your phone and text him, deciding that one little message won’t disturb his fun.
Just thinking of you. Hope you’re having fun. Love you. Xoxo.
Connor’s reply comes only a few minutes later, and it makes you smile.
Love you, too, Mom. See you tomorrow around noon. Is that okay?
You type back that that’s fine, and promise to see him then. Rafe tangles his hand in yours again, and you lean into him as the comfortable silence takes over the car.
When you get back to the house, you and Rafe both collapse on the couch. He quickly pulls you on top of him and starts scratching your back, which relaxes you completely. You bury your face in his neck and kiss his skin, which brings a hum from his lips. When your hand comes up to stroke his cheek, you run your fingers across the scruff on his jawline, and you’re reminded of what the girls said earlier.
“I know,” Rafe says quietly, “I’ll shave tomorrow.”
You grin into his neck, “Don’t.”
“Huh?”
You laugh, and feel him shift his head down to look at you. You pull back and look at him, getting lost in the sea of blue you love so much.
“The girls were talking about how hot you are earlier,” you tell him, “How you mow the lawn without a shirt, and how you have this scruff. And, apparently, Kat’s mom said you’re handsome.”
He scoffs, “Oh, my God.”
“I know,” you laugh, “I’m pretty lucky to be married to such a hot dad.”
“You are,” he teases, “And, I’m lucky to have such a sexy wife.”
“You are,” you repeat, grinning like a fool.
He chuckles and kisses you, then smiles when you lay your head back down on him again. With two teenagers in the house, you find it difficult to spend time like this with Rafe, and you want to soak it in when you can.
“Remember our first New Year’s Eve together?” he asks.
“Yeah. We were really drunk.”
He laughs, “We were. I was so in love with you then. I didn’t think it was possible for me to love you more.”
You pull back and raise a brow, watching the smile on his lips grow wider.
“But?” you question.
“But,” he smiles, “I do. I love you so fucking much it hurts.”
You grin, “You’re such a softie.”
Rafe shakes his head at you, then kisses your forehead. You pucker your lips in request for a kiss, which he gives you.
“Want me to order food? Get you a drink?”
“Yes, please,” you reply.
He kisses you one more time before easing you up, setting you back down on the couch. He grabs his phone and calls in your food while he pours drinks in the kitchen, then returns with a flute of champagne for both of you.
“Okay, sweetheart,” he declares, offering you the drink, “Will you please be my New Year’s kiss?”
You laugh, “I’d love to be your New Year’s kiss.”
He grins and hands you the drink, then leans down and kisses you. You sit up and he sits down beside you, wrapping his arm around the back of the couch behind you.
“Thanks,” he says cheekily.
“You’re welcome,” you reply, “I love you so much, Rafe Cameron.”
“I love you, too, baby.”
He kisses your temple, and you both sip your drinks and listen to the music Rafe turns on. You chat about Kelce and Maddie, their kids, Topper, and what your respective parents are doing to ring in the new year.
It isn’t until you drain the last drop of champagne from your flute and Rafe follows quickly behind, that he stands to get refills. He takes a few steps, then turns around and looks at you, then at his phone.
“Maybe I should call her,” he says.
You shake your head, “Rafe.”
“Fine,” he sighs, “What would I do without you, sweetheart?”
You smile as he walks out of the room and to the kitchen, silently wondering that question to yourself. What the hell would you do without Rafe?

Hello! I read she gets the girl recently and I'm not sure if that would be ya or na but I was wondering if you could reccomend any more sapphic books set in college. Thanks!
It's YA, but happy to recommend both! Though I think it might be the only contemporary YA Romance set in college? As opposed to, say, Fresh by Margo Wood and We Are Okay by Nina LaCour. I definitely recommend Imogen, Obviously by Becky Albertalli, which is set in college, but stars a visiting high school student. (And if you're up for paranormal, there's Carmilla adapted by Kim Turrisi.)

I'm looking forward to fiks with Cyrus and the rest of the sweets from AU! It is interesting to read about his first days in the winery, ESPECIALLY interested in his acquaintance with Kaeya and Adelinda (it will be nice), as well as all unnecessary nonsense with him and the disclosure of his character)) LMAO, I HAVE ALL MY THOUGHTS FOCUSED ON CYRUS XDDD
I want to ask a couple of questions:
1. Will there be small sketches (at least a drop) with AlHaitham and his daughter, or with Tighnari and his mini-foxes children, as well as with other characters? I was too inspired by them after reading the fic "In father's embrace", I have already read it 6 times)) Did you plan to write more fics on this topic? (I love Family AU too much, where the characters from HSR and GI are fathers)
2. Will there be other fandoms? Your writing style is just awesome, which makes me reread your fics over and over again. Are you interested in an Avatar, would you write a couple of fics with characters and a reader from the movie?? (That legendary film from James Cameron)
I've sunk too deep into this fandom, I haven't been out of there for 6 years.

First of all - apologies for the late answer. Busy, busy and one more busy.
Secondly, what a cute lil Diluc holding his huge weapon aaaw!
I will 100% write more for my family AU, including Cyrus! Just later, have some other fics planned before that. I actually have a couple of suggestions for him in the askbox, so I am keeping them there for future usage!
Now to answer your questions:
Frankly speaking, I haven't thought much of writing more about characters and the kids I headcannoned in that fic. The only five characters that either are out there or only in plans that have anything to do with kids or the lack of them are Diluc, Kaeya, Pierro, Neuvillette and Wriothesley. Hopefully the ones that are in plans, won't stay in plans forever... (there used to be Zhongli also, but let's not talk about him)
Thanks for complimenting my writing style! I never thought I'd have one, and still don't quite grasp what you guys mean saying "writing style" in my fics, but I am glad you enjoy! As for the other fandoms - no, I don't think so. I am kinda a slow writer and if I have too many fandoms to write for, I won't be able to focus properly and will be even slower cause I won't be able to choose what character I want to write for more. Besides, right now, Genshin and HSR are the only fandoms I am actively in.
As for Avatar - have never watched and honestly don't plan to. Not my cup of tea.

el and max love going to amusement parks and carnivals together
max teaches el how to skateboard
max and el have dance parties as much as humanly possible

As some of you may know, this month will be happening the fanfiction event Multiamory March (hosted by @polyamships), which is similar to Femslash February - but instead of fanfics centered on femslash ships, it's fanfics centered on polyamorous ships. So just like I did last month with Femslash February, I'll be taking prompts through all this month for Multiamory March and posting them in my account on AO3 iammyownsaviour (ant1hero).
