ok so I've seen quite a handful of nbc hannibal fans say that the og red dragon book is not that interesting just because there's not enough "dialogue" or content between hannibal and will and this shit fucking INFURIATES me like no other. As much as I am a HUGE hannigram enthusiast, I still think that these kinds of comments are fucking insane honestly, (especially coming from fannibals!) because it's originally written as a crime/procedural novel and NOT as an in-depth analysis novel about Hannibal and Will's dynamic (as goes for the rest of the Thomas Harris novels).
Though there are still underlying "hannigram" implications in the book just from their dialogues together, it really just only shows how much more depth can be gotten out from their relationship, which is clearly grown to its fullest potential in the nbc series. But it still doesn't guarantee that the source content would be exactly parallel to what was inspired by it, and if you didn't like the book just because of the “lack” of hannigram content then I suggest you to go read fanfics instead because the original Red Dragon book is of more worth than your fandom mindset or whatever LMFAO.
Obviously it is not gonna be like the series because just to be frank, the show is just basically fanfic made canon (in the absolute best way possible) LMAO and it is basically written out as a hybrid version of their original Red Dragon dynamic and Clarice and Hannibal's relationship in TSOTL and Hannibal (the book). But saying that the original source material is dull or bland just because you watched the series first just means that you didn't completely understand how the show came to be and the complexity with hannibal and will's relationship.
So to all the nbc hannibal fans out there who are planning to read the red dragon book and the Thomas Harris novels, don't expect their relationship in it to be exactly explicit just like how the show portrays and just because it isn't, doesn't mean that the book is "uninteresting" or "dull". It just means that you're a rigid reader and you didn't get the entire point of the novel and the basic foundation to the series you know and love. Thank you for listening.

highlights from "searching for oswald...and chicken"
wow I loved this episode...I feel like I say that every time but I REALLY REALLY enjoyed this one
first of all its a Dagur episode, which automatically makes it great...most of the screenshots I took are of him. Honestly all of his dialogue is very quotable, especially since so many of the jokes they give him are thinly veiled adult humour
also the B plot with chicken was certainly something (and makes me think the writers were thinking about the end of the hidden world while writing it?)
ok so the beginning of the episode was already tugging at my heartstrings. I love seeing Dagur and Heather's sibling relationship, whether hey're arguing or getting along.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well that's deeply upsetting! and the fact that he said "most of his life" makes me wonder how much of the confidence Dagur displayed as a teenager was a cover for whatever he was dealing with internally.
The part where Dagur hugs Heather and she looks happy but almost surprised was very bittersweet. It seems like she's still getting used to having a family, and affection catches her off guard.
Tumblr media
Excuse me while I go cry
Call me deranged but I think Dagur slamming Snotlout against a cage was hot
Tumblr media
As always, Hiccup is adorable. Literally looks like a cat
Tumblr media
This is funny but also very upsetting! Snotlout and Dagur really make a habit of using humourous line delivery to cope with being deeply unwell:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*clears throat* uh yeah Dagur, I'm sure you do love a good "fruit bath," from time to time if you know what I mean...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Come on, the writers, animators and voice actor HAVE to have known that line came across as suggestive. Like the way he sounds? His facial expression? They may not have intended it to specifically imply he was talking about getting in a sauna with some twinks, but it certainly sounded like something sensual was going on.
Also I didn't get a shot of this but when Dagur starts listing adjectives to describe Heather's reckless behaviour, Hiccup says "Sentinel" while looking at Oswald's journal. Dagur says something like "that's not quite the word I'd use," which makes me think Dagur was going to call her a not so PG word...
Snotlout staring directly at the camera while narrating Tuffnut's emotional breakdown in the style of a pun-loving mystery novelist:
Tumblr media
What an asshole (I love him). there's something really funny about Tuff leaning against the tree with a hand on his hip. Poor guy. Astrid and Stormfly were clearly less amused than I was.
Tumblr media
Ok let's talk about Hiccup motivating Dagur to open the door to Oswald's shelter. My little Dagcup heart was really soaring here. And look at the lighting!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOOK AT HIM! LOOK AT HIS FACE!
Oooohh man, Dagur expressing guilt about his past and Hiccup trying to help him through it also really got to me.
Tumblr media
Dagur: I was a villain!
Hiccup: No, you were a kid
Me: *crying*
Because yeah, Dagur in Riders of Berk/Defenders of Berk did horrible things, but he was also enabled by all the adults in his life who could have stepped up after Oswald left. I've already written (both in posts and in one of my Dagcup fics) about how being thrown into a dungeon as a kid only made Dagur a worse person (no one in the show talks about the scars on his face that weren't there before...). And There is clearly an opportunity for restorative justice when it comes to characters like Alvin and Eret that wasn't extended to Dagur despite the fact that they had already overpowered him and could have at least given him a choice between punishment and trying to make up for his actions. Anyway...let me not rant about that anymore.
Ok what's next...oh yeah! Astrid doing this:
Tumblr media
Hilarious.
Tumblr media
Um...ok so...I needed to screenshot this for uh...reasons. It's the um...the composition and the...the lighting and...yeah. All that stuff.
THE DRAWING OSWALD DID OF DAGUR AND HEATHER AS KIDS
Tumblr media
oooooohhh my heart!
Look. At. My. Boy. He looks so happy and at peace after reading his father's letter.
Tumblr media
Ok so again...the writers making very interesting decisions for Dagur's lines.
Tumblr media
Dagur being funny and a little concerning again
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I liked the colour scheme for this Gronckle
Tumblr media
More Dagur appreciation.
Tumblr media
Before the episode where Fishlegs helps Dagur fly Shattermaster, I would have assumed Dagur would make fun of Fishlegs for being a nerd -- but instead he appreciates it. I think their friendship is super adorable, and I wish we got to see more of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fishie! He calls him Fishie! (I ship them a little sometimes tbh) I can see Dagur having a thing for nerds.
hehehe
Tumblr media
and uh, let's close off with hiccup being hot and windswept

Something that seems super strange to me about Viv is her hatred of Striker, of her own character... This being a very popular one in the community, why? What's the point of creating your own character and then hating him?
The more absurd it is every time you think about it! I'm thinking that he probably hates it because of the ships they make with Blitz, or simply because it hurts Stolas or Blitz, which is too ridiculous since you need an Antagonist who can create an effect against the characters
You know, I would make the assumption that she hates Striker because she's rich and Striker is a "eat the rich" type of dude.
But aside from that thought, I'm not sure. From Blitzo calling him a supremacist to her liking Twitter posts calling Striker a bigot. I'm pretty sure she made him just to hate him.
Out of all the antagonists, Striker has taken the most Ls. That's just a fact right about now, and what's even worse is that the characters defeat him in the most horribly written ways.
I can excuse his defeat in Harvest Moon Festival, but not in Western Energy or in Oops. Striker was having problems with two Imps he easily overpowered in Season 1. For the sake of convenience, the writers buffed Moxxie and Millie just so they can stand a chance against Striker.
But then it gets even worse in Oops. Not only was Striker distracted by Fizzarolli's distraction song, which really shouldn't have happened. Because any villain with more than one braincell can conclude that they're being distracted, Striker conveniently holds Fizzarolli hostage behind perfectly good oil.
Now, who the hell leaves perfectly good oil in a dump? Nobody. It's oil.
Is it bad for a creator to hate a character? I don't think so, but don't ruin the writing of a character just because you hate em.
You're literally having a cake and eating it, too.

Just watched Disney's "Wish" and here is how I would rewrite Magnifico's character arc and the movie.
*Spoilers Ahead*
I understand that the audience and the movie wanted to make him a fun, campy villain as reminiscent of the older Disney villains, but what they established was the opposite. The movie is trying to do two things with him: being sympathetic and being outright evil. These two are difficult to combine, and it is clear that they didn't how to do that.
They not only gave him a tragic past that was never elaborated on, but his descent literally isn't himself, but of a magic evil book that makes your eyes green. They had such a clear setup to pursue why he would use it now of all times, but they didn't. People can be asshole narcissists without being evil. And it is clear he did care for Amaya, and the people of Rosas. So the movie needed to push him more and give him some struggle of morality. Unfortunately, this route will turn him into a tragic villain. If they wanted true camp, they needed to make him always evil, and was always using the wishes to power himself up. But that is for another day.
"HIS MOTIVATION"
One of the weaknesses of Maginifico is that he has no clear motivation. And if it he does, they don't line up with what his surroundings are. When the power of Star nearly made the wishes in his chamber fall and the city shake, he was pretty paranoid that something was effecting his magic. Or overpowering it. Then when his people started questioning PLUS demanding more wish ceremonies, you can see why he is so irritated by them and thinks they don't respect him. When they basically gamble away their wish VOLUNTARILY and don't actually respect him as a king, more like a wish granter. He even said something akin to, "that is all you ever think about is wish ceremonies?" And the crowd responds with yes.
To further show his descent more, there should be another scene where he is just alone, without Amaya there. And his eyes are involuntarily drawn to the magic book. Widened, and mesmerized, his irises turn green and suddenly he snaps out of it. Hinting that the book, despite behind the glass, can draw people towards it. Beckoning almost and using their most innate desires. Now lets see how his motivations tie into the infamous villain song.
"THIS IS THE THANKS I GET"
What I'd change would be the must needed tonal shift in the second half. The songs stays way too poppy and doesn't clearly identify his corruption. The moment when he nearly gives himself to the book. It seems so simple, but the this section of the song really shows his reluctance, and that he thinks what he is doing is a necessary evil.
"I didn't wanna do this I swore I'd never do this But I'm hypnotized by how these pages flip 'Cause I refuse to have my power stripped A potion, a spell, a summon, a curse? Anything to make that light reverse To this book, I don't wanna be tethered, but Desperate times call for desperate measures Brr, where was I? Oh, yeah"
Instead of the "brr, where was I?" line, I would make the music stop, and Amaya's voice could be heard from behind. Freezing Magnifico in his tracks. The green around him disappears, and it is only him and his Queen, surrounded by nothing but themselves. She sings softly to him. A reprise of "At All Cost."
His subconscious knows it's wrong to use the book (as seen in the first two lines of the bridge and the last two lines, offset 1), so it conjures up Amaya, who tries to remind him of his good. The song grows in distortion as Amaya begs, yet he feels pushed to this predicament.
Going back to his motivation, it is hinted he wants control because in his eyes, the only way to protect everyone is if he oversees everything. But that doesn't mean he thinks his powers would be stripped. I think this is the one line that gives hint at a motivation that really doesn't fit his character, " 'Cause I refuse to have my power stripped." There is no hint throughout the movie that his magic is weakening, and when the people demanded and disrespected him, he is more irritated than antagonized. Instead, it should be he is afraid he doesn't have enough power. He feels he isn't powerful enough to stop whatever magic is happening in the kingdom, and knows the book will grant him this to achieve what he wants. Which is to protect Rosas "at all cost."
The goal here is to make his worries justified but his actions an overreaction. And make it a descent into madness than suddenly becoming evil out of the blue.
MOTIVATION CONT.
Also, to up the stakes because there is literally none, for when Asha sneaks into his castle to retrieve Sabo's wish, she accidentally releases all of them, even the violent ones. So we can have a character parallel between Asha and Magnifico where they think they are both doing the right thing, and are using overreactions for issues that could've just been brought up peacefully.
During their truce, he sees just how dangerous people can be with violent wishes, and the will they have to do them. Slowly making him angrier and angrier and further justifying to himself what he he did. After they are forced to work together to bring back order, the evil book has already taken its toll, and he comes to the realization of why is he even doing this for the people who don't even respect the man that gave them a safe haven. That without him, it would have descended into chaos long ago. He starts to extract the wishes involuntarily out of people, trying to keep them safe from themselves. But as he does, he takes it into himself for safe-keeping and ends up voring them. Growing in madness and in power as a misplaced, extreme martyrdom.
Now for the ending. I would either have the evil dispelled from him, but he dies from the magic exhaustion. Or to go the route of the movie and have him trapped, while Amaya, instead of being nonchalant about her husband's predicament (which is weird in the movie since it is shown they love one another yet now she doesn't care?). Who thanks Asha and tells her she will find a way to free her husband and rid of the curse, even if the book says there is no way to reverse it.

jujutsu kaisen is my favourite anime EVER in my life.
this is my first time ever posting on tumblr, I've been coming here for the past 2 years but I've been a silent reader but now I just have to say something.
I'm the biggest fan of jujutsu kaisen, I was, and today (23rd may) marks the day I drop it. Many of my friends know me as a super gojo fan, but I'll have to say, even if I wasn't a big fan of gojo, I would have dropped the manga at this point.
Let me make it clear, jujutsu kaisen is a REALLY REALLY good anime/manga. My favourite of all time, ever . But the plot twists went too far this time. Chapter 261, it made me lose faith in this manga and gege overall. Yes plot twists are great, yes gege pulled some dangerous ones off, but this one is really too far.
It's been long since gojo had been sliced by sukuna and gege finally gave us hope in 260 that gojo would be coming back, and we waited so excitedly for this chapter only to be disappointed and announced to our faces that gojo will never be coming back.
I understand that he's a side character, but why did you treat him like a main? Why did you overpower him then? For the thrill, yes. But this literally doesn't make any sense. Everyone's death was tragic, but gojo and getos were beyond acceptable.
The two best friends, continued to be used even after their death. Making it known to everyone that gojo was always just a weapon for the jujutsu world. There was a bounty on his head ever since he was born. He was the strongest. But that's what he only ever was. Gege, this is tragic. I have no other ways to describe this mangaka other than psychopathic, and sadistic.
We can't even say rest in peace gojo, because he's NOT. Even after his death, he's being used.
It doesn't make sense to me. If you kill everyone off, and only the villain remains, what's the point? Why did it all lead to this? Just a huge stunt to gain popularity and then just kill everyone but your favourite character, it's sadistic. In my opinion, most people were anticipating gojos return so that's why we kept reading, but now that it's confirmed that he won't return, alot of people are gonna drop your shit, gege. I hope you had fun gaining the popularity, but it's over now. The only way I'd engage with jjk content now is if I see posts or memes or tiktoks, that's it. I'm not gonna keep up with it anymore, or go back to it or read more into lore. This is it, my ending of jujutsu kaisen is when nanami died.

don't know if you do ask but got curious what some of your favorite things about Marlon and also maybe your favorite pics of him in game
AAAA love this ask, thank you so much anon!!! I love Marlon and I will take any opportunity there is to gush about him!
Marlon is devoted, he’s got a good heart and wears it right on his sleeve. Take one good look at him and you see someone who’s (trying) to keep it all together. He was genuinely so passionate when talking about how well fortified Ericson’s had become. It was endearing seeing how much he boasted to Clementine about running the place and how he and all the other kids had worked so hard over the years to protect the school.
He is a tragic character, and although only appearing in one episode, you can sense there is more to him than meets the eye. He is someone who has been weighed down by responsibility and by the world he was forced to grow up in. These kids had been sheltered, most of their lives had been spent surviving at the school. The teachers and other staff they'd looked up to… the ones that were entrusted to take care of them had abandoned them, leaving them for dead. As a result, they had no adult figure to look up to and seek guidance from.
Who could they lean on now?
This is where Marlon comes in; I like how despite his feelings of sorrow and betrayal, he decided to step up and take action, even though he was just as scared and confused as the other kids. It highlights just how much he cares for his friends; he doesn’t want to see them suffer and live in fear. It's a scary world out there; practically anywhere they go, it could mean death. However, as determined as ever, Marlon strives to make the best of their situation, and they work together to make Ericson the home that they never truly had before the apocalypse. The fondness in Louis' voice when he talks about him is really heartwarming and goes to show how dedicated he was when playing into the leader role.
Tumblr media
Marlon is a person who will do anything in his position to protect his friend's safety. As the self-proclaimed leader of the abandoned boarding school, he goes to great lengths to ensure that everyone is well fed and has a good night’s sleep. When he speaks with Clementine, you can see the desperation in his eyes; shouldering so much responsibility alone for so many years is hard. Despite his doubts that cloud him, he attempts to make it work with the limited resources they have.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The situation involving the twins is extremely heartbreaking from both perspectives. Some people paint Marlon as this “heartless villain” who will just willingly hand over his friends like it’s nothing. I want to pose some questions. Do you think he wanted to hand them over? Did you think he hasn’t gone days upon days without sleeping? Wrecked with the guilt of his decision? Spending hours trying to come up with some sort of rescue plan to get them back? It doesn’t erase the fact that he knew these kids… he grew up with them in this fucked up world. He’s literally still a kid himself! What was he to do in a situation where all he had was a gun practically pointed at him by adults who could easily overpower them? Perhaps he could’ve handed himself over, however what would happen then? They’d just come back anyways and take the rest of the kids without a second thought.
At the end of the day, he wanted to be a good leader and good friend to everyone at the school. He kept all his worries and stress to himself so that the spirits of the school weren't weighed down because of him. He was so insistent that everyone abided by the safe zone rule so much to avoid any conflicts that could disrupt the peace they made for themselves. Thus, these built up emotions/worries caused his eventual downfall and he died thinking that all his friends potentially hated him for what he did. Watching those hurt and dejected looks on their faces when being confronted.. especially the look of sadness from his best friend. It hurt more than anything. I love how they handled Marlon, even if I wished he and many others had more screen time to truly shine, the amount of impact they had is worth it. Also many love towards his va Ray Chase, he put in his all with that performance!!!! 👏
A bit of a side note as well: Marlon had broken his own rule regarding the safe zone as he managed to save Clementine and AJ outside the train station. Why was he out there in the first place? I believe that he was actually planning to scout the Delta from afar, finding any weak spots necessary before making a solid rescue plan to get Sophie and Minnie back. No one else was with Marlon at the time as far as we know, only him and Rosie when he refers to "when we found you." I could be wrong but that’s what I’d like to think.
Tumblr media
As far as picture wise go I have a few of them! Mainly love the ones where he’s smiling!!!

I also want to rant about AFO’s death cause WHAT?? Excuse me, but why was it Bakugo who kills him?? Isn’t AFO supposed to Izuku’s villain?? The whole reason OFA exists was for the sake of defeating AFO and saving people, so tell me why it was Bakugo who kills AFO!! It should have been Izuku who defeated AFO, not Bakugo!! I can understand if Hori did a team up with Izuku and Bakugo to defeat AFO, like I would get that cause teamwork makes the dream work, but for Bakugo alone to kill him?? It’s infuriating!! AFO vs Izuku was the big moment!! I’ve literally been waiting for it!! I wouldn’t have even cared if the final match with AFO vs Izuku disproved DFO, but now that’s gone!! I’m sorry, but I can’t accept AFO’s death cause he was supposed to be the final boss for Izuku. There has been a clone theory going around for AFO, though, where the AFO we see fighting rn is a clone and that the real AFO will show up at the end. I was a bit skeptical of this theory at first even if that would help my case with AFO not being dead, but I saw someone mention that in one of Hori’s previous manga the main villain, who happened to be the main character’s dad (big surprise there), had a clone of darkness power and now I have bit of hope towards this theory. Honestly, Hori is disappointing me a lot lately. First with that awful name, Bruce, then AFO’s death, and then Hikage being stolen.
On another note, even though I was upset about Hikage being stolen, it proves that AFO is related to Izuku. Since Danger Sense is stolen, it means that the 6 other quirks that Izuku has should be considered separate quirks and not one quirk mixed in OFA. This means that Izuku’s body is holding onto 7 quirks (let’s ignore that Danger Sense got stolen) and lets not forget that all those quirks are overpowered, so how is Izuku able to hold onto all these quirks?? Why isn’t he dead or braindead?? The only explanation is if Izuku has the ability to hold onto multiple quirks, and the only other person who is capable of doing that is AFO so they have to related in some form.
I had similar feelings about AFO's last battle. Also, Katsuki fighting a baby was just...lame. Even a dangerous baby still doesn't look like a scary opponent. Just pathetic and weird. Some weird narrative choices were made this arc. However I must admit it was funny that All for One died as he lived, completely without any dignity.
That argument can be added to the list of DFO evidence from fanfiction. However, I don't know if we can decisively say yet that Izuku's body can handle multiple quirks. Maybe Horikoshi just plans to put Izuku into a coma later. Also there was something about quirkless people being the only ones who can handle OFA, although I'm not clear on that because Aoyama can't even safely handle his one quirk.

Sorry, but I need to say something I've been thinking about for a while. I found geto's death forcing. 1.he loses to a boy with no experience and the power of ''love''. 2.he was stronger and had more knowledge and experience than the boy yuta. 3. It seems that the author just wanted to get rid of geto so that this annoying villain Kenjaku could come. 4. In my opinion, Geto is the best villain. I don't understand why the author didn't want to continue with him. 5. His death was forced because Saturo already had a change in character and personality. What I'm trying to say is that in the film, Satura is already different, he's no longer that immature young man. 6. the serious work was much more dramatic if geto had survived saturo blow he would have become stronger and returned as a villain again with sukuna. Sorry if it's big, but I have these doubts that such a good and well-constructed character had a horrible ending and very little.
I get you, Anon. You have every right to feel that way.
Honestly, as someone who does enjoy Geto, I'll tell you right now that your first point reminded me why I have came to hate the word "fraud".
I really hate what fandoms have done now to that word because it's like that word is thrown at every single character.
Lately, I keep seeing people call Geto a "fraud" because he lost to Yuta, but I'm sitting here like "what the hell is he faking though"?
They really associate losing to being a fraud and it's ridiculous.
Look, I adore Yuta, I do. But let's not sit here and act like Yuta wasn't having a difficult time against Geto because he was.
"Why is Geto considered a Special Grade"?
I don't know, maybe because his technique literally can bring about chaos all over Japan as how Kenjaku used it after the Shibuya Incident? Maybe because he did in fact trained as the same as Gojo did during their school years?
"He doesn't even have a domain"!
Domains are literal trump cards in JJK. It's actually impressive Geto hasn't relied on one. And how do we know he doesn't have one? Just because he didn't use one doesn't mean he doesn't have one. It's like saying a person doesn't have a purple shirt just because you didn't see them wear one that day.
I just can't with people!
The thing that gets me about the whole Yuta vs. Geto fight is that is it expected that Geto would have lost, even more so when the story made it clear that Yuta was going to be a strong individual, but it's how people are reacting to it that annoys me.
Oh my gosh, yes, he lost to a 16-year-old. A 16-year-old who happens to have an insane amount of cursed energy and a bond with the "Queen of Curses", and ooh! He's related to Gojo!
People saying this like it's a brand new concept and just to rag on Geto fans. Why though? You... you cannot be that bored! Yuta is written to be an overpowered character, while Geto was not.
Now, I could be wrong about this. But I feel like Geto was written to be a character that "haunts the narrative" much now just Toji does.
Geto, to me, is an interesting villain and I actually would have loved to see the years of from how he started his cult at 17 to an adult.
In relation to Kenjaku, that just reminded me of a post I saw that pretty much bashed Geto and praised Kenjaku. Now, the JJK villains, I enjoy them all to an extent, I do. And as such, it gets me sometimes how some Kenjaku fans (not all, folks, chill) will bash Geto like he's the worst and even as far as calling him ugly when... Kenjaku literally wanted to merge humanity with Tengen... for a laugh. Kenjaku has done some heinous things, too, come on. And going as far as to calling Geto ugly is funny when Kenjaku is walking around with his face.
Like, Kenjaku actually seeked out to use Geto's body. Not any of the other Special Grade sorcerers or anyone else. His technique was useful for Kenjaku and let's not forget that because of that face and that voice, Kenjaku put the Strongest Sorcerer in a box.
I won't lie, I'm actually intrigued how the plot would have been like if Geto survived and came back later for some more villainy. Him in Kenjaku's spot would be different... but that's a different I gotta see!!

So I've heard quite a bit about Richard "Em Dash" Marsh and his book The Beetle, but I've been quite curious: What elements about it are compelling? I refuse to read the book itself (made that mistake with... other gothic-based media (Damn you, Moore), so I was curious about your thoughts on it?
I think it's just the sheer amount of wasted opportunity for metaphor left laying around. Like, I know everyone likes to call it "Dracula but so much shittier," but I've always seen more resemblance to Kafka's "The Metamorphosis," and not just for the insect element.
The two characters we're introduced to as (mistaken) protagonist and antagonist are Robert Holt and the Beetle. Holt is a clerk who lost his job, applied everywhere after, followed all the rules he was taught to trust in, certain that society would naturally play as fairly with him...only to find himself homeless and starved and refused entrance even to a shelter because it was too full. He watches on in mingled surprise and envy as a fellow vagrant blithely breaks a window and waits to be arrested, thrown in jail for the sake of shelter from the rain.
Robert Holt does not throw a brick with him. Robert Holt is too shackled by his ingrained sense of If I Follow the Rules, If I am a Good Citizen, I Will be Helped.
He isn't. He walks away into the rain, still starving, still scraped off the edge of society, shooed like vermin. He reaches the Beetle's home with its window ajar. He slinks in.
And then is immediately preyed on by the Beetle, his free will suddenly ripped away, ordered to strip and walk and talk and die and live and rob and generally be violated on every mental and external level. He is literally so low as to be overpowered and stepped on by an insect.
But Holt isn't immune to his own (read: Marsh's) callousness. He refers to the Beetle, who is an Egyptian visitor here for revenge reasons, in some fairly ugly terms. How much we can shrug off as being a fear/disgust response versus being Conditioned to Other Anyone Not Anglo-Saxon Enough is up in the air in-universe.
The frustration here is that between this opening and the future cast members' rancid treatment of Holt, who tries to help and warn them, and of the Beetle, met with disdain simply for being a foreigner in England before one chitinous move can be made, there could have been SO MUCH to play with in terms of...
Human beings reduced to pests not worth dignity or care because they are Poor, they are Homeless, they are the Lowest Rung of Society, they are Foreign, they are Dirty and Different from What's White Right
The examination of in-fighting of 'verminous' people. Figurative insects living underfoot in supposedly civilized countries, now preying on and demeaning each other rather than extending the empathy they were never shown by polite*** society
Spotlighting the brutality and villainous aspects of our group of well-to-do "heroes", the main cast being mixed up in building genocidal weapons and plotting asylum stays for romantic rivals and hypocrisy and so many layers of bigotry it makes your eyes ache
A better version of the story in which the aforementioned genocidal weapon, a killer gas to be used on South America for some fucking reason, becomes the focus of the story--bonus points for the accidental 'bug spray' comparison to be made--with the potential of the Beetle and Holt switching tracks from singular vengeance and/or the desperate thwarting of this fruition; knowing that the existence of such a thing would be a prelude to 'dealing with the vermin problem' on a terrifying scale. Perhaps by making use of a new kind of 'shelter.' The insects become the heroes, the polished creme of England now turned to fertilizer.
...a better version that might have Holt ending the story with his own metamorphosis, but as a Gregor Samsa with actual strength and will of his own, and acceptance waiting for him on the other side of the change.
But no.
Richard Dickard Marsh couldn't be bothered to reach beyond squeezing out a Sydney Atherton-shaped turd onto the typewriter and calling it done.
It's so, so, SO goddamn infuriating as a storyteller to find the seeds for something that would have been amazing and groundbreaking, especially for its time period, only to see the whole thing salted and burned until all that's left is racist caricatures, a trashfire of a plot, and the most eye-watering syntax ever put to paper.

There was yet another viral ATLA comparison tweet recently that went “Who winning in a fight between Katara, Toph and Azula?” and I was talking about it with some of my friends who watched the show because….
I noticed when a lot of people talk about this (and atla in general but specifically this) they talk with a lot of projection and bias of the characters’ personalities and not about their actual fighting abilities in the show?
Because, correct me if I’m wrong cuz I have Katara blinders and also haven’t watched the show in a few months so I COULD BE WRONG, but…
I don’t recall Katara losing as many fights as either of them do in canon.
Toph loses a fight in imbalance (and to Aang when they first meet) but a lot of people haven’t even read the comics so the Katara-Toph comparisons bother me less because they never truly fought in the show either.
But Katara has not only beat Azula twice, she’s also never lost a fight after season 1 from what I can remember.
And yet, people continue to act like she’s not a great fighter, especially in favor of those two when she’s literally the only one to beat one of the others, TWICE at that.
When Toph meets Azula in the invasion, Azula doesn’t have her bending and Toph is left to fight two Dai Li agents. The show never once shows these 2 in direct opposition. Toph also never has to fight Zuko, who Katara has. Never fights Mai and Ty Lee, who Katara has. Katara not only has more wins than them, but the show also shows her directly fighting more significant opponents between the three of them.
I actually wanna speak about two of those fights, yeah yeah Sozin’s Comet but also, the 1v1 in Ba Sing Se. Not only do people cry “oh Azula was breaking down in the finale” but now they claim that the fight in season 2 was also not fair? because she was too tired from fighting Aang and Katara?? And I’m like??? Aang made one waterbending move with Katara and one solo earthbending move at Azula before Zuko switched sides and started attacking him. Then Katara was left to fight Azula on her own for far longer, and throughout the whole fight, Azula literally did not get a hit on Katara once, to the point her brother had to intervene.
If you ask me, their fight on Sozin’s comet is a much stronger case for Azula as an opponent. For one, Azula was literally overpowered by a comet and was shooting lightning and fire all over the place with more intensity and speed than she ever had. Meanwhile Katara spends majority of the fight on the defensive but still impressively keeps up with Azula enough to dodge her moves until the very end when she defeats her.
All this to say, even though they’re all girls, I do feel a bit of misogyny is at play here: I feel like people are more critical of Katara as a fighter because she’s kind, girly and the female love interest. (I think this also relates to why so many people insist she shouldn’t have ended up with the mc but that’s a whole other discussion).
Katara is not the tomboy brawler or the cold blooded villain. Her femininity cannot be ignored and her strength cannot be tied to a villainous narrative. Katara not wanting to bloodbend pisses people off, because it’s “more proof she doesn’t have what it takes”. She doesn’t “have the stomach” to end her mother’s m*rderer so how can she beat Toph or Azula? “Female characters are hardly both healers AND fighters” so Katara automatically isn’t either. Even though the canon explicitly shows she is one of, if not THE BEST female fighter in the entire cast.
It does not compute. Their prejudice for kind hyperfeminine love interests in media automatically puts her down several notches and her strength is something to be contested in a way theirs aren’t. It’s okay for female characters that aren’t overly feminine to be strong because it just makes sense. It’s ok for female villains to be stronger than the male heroes because that’s what makes them badass villains. The hero’s girlfriend? eh not so much.
The more blatant misogyny starts to surface when they start talking about stuff like personality and emotion like just say it out loud at this point! It was never about “Who you want to win?” but “Who can win?”. And Katara is anything but a loser.

The consumption imagery that surrounds the step mother has brought me some thoughts and maybe clarity to the true big bad.
She comes from the authors, made from a similar material, but is described as “getting angrier” the more things don’t go her way. The more things aren’t the way she wants them to be, the more upset she gets.
She can effectively move outside of the stories, going from story to story and messing with them all individually. She might have even been the one to merge some of the worlds together with her meddling.
She’s presumably inserting herself into stories by taking the place of background female characters. And we can assume that she changes those stories when she enters them. Thus, she inserts herself into stories, fundamentally changing the characters, then changes the stories to better suit her needs and desires from the inside out.
She gets mad at Pinocchio acting out, acting like a free willed child and not like the story version of Pinocchio. She sends a bird to spy on him and do her bidding, aiding the characters (Pinocchi-crow being a bit overpowered in comparison to the other characters), but also keeping herself in the story when she isn’t there, and keeping Pinocchio in line.
I think that the stepmother is supposed to represent fans meddling in media and media changing to appease them. Like she literally consumes parts of stories the way we consume media. She gets angry when things don’t go her way, like fans get mad when their chosen media goes in a direction they do not like. She’s blending worlds together the way fans beg for crossovers with different shows they like. She changes stories to better fit her wants and desires for the stories. She literally inserts herself into stories by consuming and replacing those characters, and when she isn’t there herself she sends a “self insert” in the form of pinocchi-crow. She wants control over the world for it to be her way and to put her first, like a lot of fans want to change the dimension 20 campaigns to fit their fantasy of how the seasons should go. Plus her being made from a similar material as the authors….if the authors are humans and this is all very meta, then the step mother could very well be a human person, a fan, changing things to be the way she wants them to be from the inside out
So far the villain in this campaign is not capitalism, nor is it Disney or Brennan….it’s us

now that i think abt it, looking back, srmthfg did a lot of stuff that i liked so much, let’s say regarding the main character. I find Chiro’s case so interesting because despite the fact that he is never given any backstory whatsoever, he becomes meaningful through his actions and becomes established and distinguished through his interactions with others. I think he is such a likeable character but not in the way that he’s perfect, he has his flaws and fears that he overcomes or struggles with. He is shown multiple times being kind towards others, even towards hideous creatures or animals (i mean it would be ironic for him to hate animals given that he lives with monkeys) which at the time was like such a breath of fresh air for me. Also the way characters constantly belittle/make fun of him for hanging out with animals and he just pretty much tells all of them to f off which is great. The majority of times the villains aren’t even naturally evil but corrupted by the evil force and the main characters recognize that and try to help as much as they can. Another thing that i like abt Chiro is that he’s supposed to be ‘’the chosen one’’ but he isn’t overpowered, he has several established moves which he uses throughout the show or improves and that’s it. and he loses, A LOT. Like there’s this great accent placed on the fact that they are a team and on how they are constantly saving each other.
AND GOD let me tell you, i dislike mechs, among all animals primates and monkeys are my least favorite and yet this show has somehow managed to make me love BOTH. The way they made me care so deeply abt each freaking technicolor monkey, about this pink mary-sue-ish robot-girl, and about that plain-ass looking super robot is INSANE. The writer somehow managed to give them so much personality. When Antauri [redacted] I was literally not okay for several weeks. I related to Gibson so much and his beef with Sprx was so fun and his relationship with Otto so nice. Nova was badass and funny and i loved the big sister kind of relationship she had with Chiro. I can’t even chose a fave out of the monkeys because they complemented each other so well. Jinmay seemed sorta boring at first but the fact that she was a robot made everything so much more interesting, i absolutely loved all the times when they would pit her against the heroes. I also loved that she was established from the beginning and kept being a recurring character even becoming a member of the team but not in the way that it would break the team’s mojo. The super-robot was so plain but the way they constantly showed us it was sentient was so eerie. AND god the villains where compelling, terrifying and idk felt like a constant looming threat. Idk maybe it’s nostalgia speaking but this show had so much shit that somehow newer shows/anime constantly miss and it makes me sad when i remember how it ended and how it has been literally forgotten by everyone. Sometimes i think it’s a fever dream because nobody ever mentions it, not even when they are talking abt ‘‘forgotten shows’‘ :’)))

i might be stupid but. is the gothamverse a muppets batman au? is that what the thing in ur bio means? (either way plz do tell me abt it)
That would definitely be infinitely cooler than my idea! Gothamverse is the beautiful result of me playing arkham knight while waiting for an mcr livestream to start up and thinking ‘damn bitches from jersey are fucking insane! ....wait a minute’
It’s basically a silly little idea I came up last March with where all the mcr guys are from Gotham and what their villain origin stories would be etc. I followed the main Batman villain archetypes: extremist, anti-hero, camp, and serial killer, and I had a fucking blast! It’s very silly and just something I did for fun. I guess I can go a lil bit into it here.
full disclosure, I am psychotic and disabled and I do not believe in the vilification of mental illness or disability in media, all of these characters will eventually get the help they need. Batman at its core is about a mentally ill man helping others who have been failed by society and I will never forgive dc for making him into an overpowered, glorified cop.
Frank’s character (Francis ‘Frankie’ Stein) is the extremist (duh). He’s the son of a mafia boss who is steadily ruining their town with crime and Frankie just kinda snaps and kills him to take his place as the head of the family and try to undo some of the damage done. He has great intentions, he’s just very unyielding and kind of insane 💕 his moniker is Frankenstein! And his whole schtick is that he’s very hard (if not impossible) to kill. He’s also chronically ill and Jewish, these are not important to his character but they are important to me !
Mikey’s character (Micheal Way) is the serial killer. He’s a ‘sociopath’ (theres nothing actually wrong with him, people just suck and made him feel lesser and out of place :/) trying to fit in with everyday society but he always feels like something is missing and becomes a neuroscientist to try to find what exactly it is. He invents a machine (the empathsizer) that allows him to experience other people’s memories and emotions as though they are his own. From there he accidentally gets addicted to the chemical responses his brain has to doing that. And keeps doing it. Even after the testing phase is no longer accepting applicants. It gets worse after he experiences someone’s near death experience and starts chasing the high it gave him. Idk what his moniker is? It’s sandman for right now but that’s honestly so boring and uninspired.
Ray’s character (Raymond Ortiz) is camp but very loosely. He’s an engineer by day and a rockstar by night! He’s really only an engineer to save up enough money to pursue music full time but it’s hard because he doesn’t get paid that much. Winter hits and with it, cuts to his hours! So he’s forced to choose between rent and electricity. When he gets really sick as a result, he can’t afford a doctor. And when he wakes up with his hearing gone as a result, theres nothing he can really do but spiral into a depression. Until he realizes he’s a literal biological engineer. If he can’t fix his problem he can at the very least prevent it from happening to someone else! Research does cost money, so it’s very fortunate that Gotham has so many banks. His moniker is Dr. Megahurtz! His weapon of choice is his guitar, which has been retrofitted with sonic emitters to amplify and weaponize the hertz. Not enough to hurt, but enough to incapacitate.
Gerard’s character (Jules Moss) is the anti hero! She’s (yes I made Gerard’s character a trans girl, they took too long to make a trans character so I did it for them) has the same backstory as Gerard actually! On her way home from work she witnesses a terrorist attack, but instead of starting a band she decides to fight crime instead. She does so bad. Literally her first night out patrolling she gets killed by some priest who’s been driven insane by what he claims is an angel that’s ‘chosen him to impart gods will’ but it’s just a fallen star looking for a vessel to possess and the first guy it came across wasn’t dead lol. The star turns into a sword of pure light and that’s what Jules gets stabbed with, but also it fuses itself to her dna so she wakes up a few days later, schrödingers girl, with some scary new abilities and a voice in her head that definitely wasn’t there before. Her whole arc is her trying to find the guy that killed her and get revenge. Her moniker is stigmata! Because when she gets impaled it also goes through the palms of her hands and the wounds don’t heal.
but yeah that’s the bare bones of it all! I’m planning on making this into a comic series but the script is still being written at the moment! Thank you for letting me ramble about it 💕🥰

Toh fanatics: Omg our show is so good and it subverts the shitty tropes our show is better than other shows our main character is better then other main characters she is not mary sue
Their show: Main character gets power from literal god, lives with decendant of woman that caused main angatonist to do what he does, also she lives with literal jesus christ of this world, befriends the strongest kids from school that overpowered people who did magic for their whole life, befriends main villains "nerfew" that is connected to main lore, gets powers from a literal god AGAIN, gets everything she wanted at the end and loses nothing
+
Main antagonist is the biggest dissapointment in the show. Creator of the show didn't gaf about him and decided to make fun of him and forget about his complex themes and upbringing and his relationship with his brother. Fandom hates Belos too which kinda makes me think Dana just did what fans wanted. Show is made worse by having a mid villain which also made a finale mid which made the show mid in retrospective. Antagonist and protagonists connection is erased for a cheap animeass powerup scene from the god himself
Agree with most of these points. While it is incredibly convenient for Luz to stay with someone potentially connected to Evelyn but I don’t think that’s necessarily a narrative flaw? I find it narratively poignant that like her ancestor Eda is accepting of humans on an Isles that scorns anyone that has weak/no magic, especially since Eda lost her own magic. What I get from that potential connection is much more important to me than any issues with “convenience.” I was fine with King being a Titan too, the way he was discovered didn’t make it seem too convoluted but realizing just how essential he and his father turned out to be muddied this. Also I think Belos was designed to be hated. Conceptually and symbolically he’s meant to be the representation of all corrupt systems that discriminate against minority groups. The amount of hatred felt towards him by the fandom is understandable especially in the currentt climate. He was also supposedly based on some of Dana’s bigoted relatives ( I don’t have a direct source for this though) so it makes sense she’d find it hard to sympathize with him. But I think Belos can exist as an concept/symbol without dismissing the fascinating aspects of his actual character which very much highlight the human element of corrupt systems, specifically who make up them and who get caught into a cycle of continuation. If it’s true that Philip was once an outcast and discriminated against himself, him joining the system that hurt him and turning on those who are in positions similar to him makes the situation ever so layered and tragic. A great cautionary tale overall. Thanks for your ask anon.

I feel like, even at his worst... Ganon has been a great villain, mainly because he's such a great contrast to both Link and Zelda.
The man is a skilled warrior like our courageous little boi, but he's got years of experience and relies on overpowering foes in an actual fight rather Han using bomb arrows or fishing rod tricks.
He's also royalty like Zelda (and the anti-christ to her Jesus), however not only did he grow up in a harsher environment, he also let the small amount of privilege he did get go to his head.
Look, this post is preaching to the quoir. Do I bitch about Ganondorf a lot? Yea. Do I think he’s a magnificent villain? YES. HE HAS INFECTED MY MIND FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS HE NEVER LEAVES-
*ehem*
I do enjoy that Ganondorf has characteristics that act as a foil to both Link and Zelda. Like Link, he is very self-reliant, depending on no one to get his plans in motion. He learns and masters whatever he gets his hands on. His people regard him as a hero. Like Zelda, he is royalty and offered an almost god-like status amongst his people. He is also oftened damseled himself, imprisoned for years on end. However he does not have his own hero to save him and so he shifts into his “Link” mode and breaks free himself. He is a formidable enemy for Link and Zelda, and they often need outside divine intervention to actually defeat him.
So, I love him. Ganondorf is my favorite character of all time, he is literally leagues and leagues above any other character I love. He is my muse. He is my motivation to write and create. I have made many friends over the years because I can’t shut up about him. I owe this idiot of a king so much.

I have a very interesting idea about Macaque's six ears.
Macaque obviously has six ears which he can use to hear the past, the present, and the future and that is already an OP ability. He's even the only one who can be on par with Sun Wukong. Except Buddha but i don't know if there are more people that can fight Wukong equally in strength other than him.(Only on technicalities, there isn't any much information on the other primates.)
So, what if, and this is only a theory. His six ears can also hear other universes futures, pasts, and presents? That would be so OP and broken, but also a very bad curse since he's able to hear ALL like everything! Imagine how loud that would be, hearing everything and even to other dimensions too.
Also, no one talks how incredibly overpowered Macaque's hearing of the past, only the future. Idk about you but being able to hear and even find information about someone's past is also so powerful, because the future isn't set in stone.
Macaque might just only be able to hear certain events, but the future is ever changing with each decision leading to a new outcome. (Just my theory about future sightings and stuff)
But unlike the future, the past is already set in stone, you could find someone's weakness, their trauma, EVERYTHING about them down to the littlest details because he can hear THE PAST.
But that's just an idea, idk much about the actual Canon!Six-eared Macaque but i just find his ability of six ears being able to hear the past, present, and future to be really interesting and wanted to expand more on that idea.
It also probably could just be metaphors and stuff and not LITERALLY hear the past, present, and future but i still like the idea. After all, the monkeys are super OP, especially Sun Wukong.
I might also research about the other two primates, The Red Baboon and The Long Armed Gibbon. Still, the Six-eared Macaque has got to be my favorite. Not because of the show Lego Monkie kid (although it did introduced me to him and made me absolutely hyperfixate on him) but also because when i read the Journey to the west book and found his chapter, i immediately took interested at the fact that he can hear the past, present, and future.
It's probably also because i like villains and antagonist of any story (depending on the character tho, I don't always like EVERY antagonist and villains in a story)
Anyways, thank you all for reading this long rant!
