I find it weird how the Hazbin fandom has a double standard when it comes to characters. I've seen people call Mimzy annoying just because she annoys the main cast and brings them into trouble, but even then, the trouble she brought were literally just weak demons that any one of the members of the Hotel could handle. But then characters like Adam, who are way more of a threat and actively annoyed, literally everyone (including Lute and Sera) gets favored by them. Though this double standard is also prevalent when it comes to Helluva Boss, so I'm not surprised.

Morally, gray characters are those with complex motivations or goals that aren't simply right or wrong. One of my favorite morally gray characters in fiction is Jason Todd from DC. The second Robin that Batman failed to save, who ended up dying at the hands of the Joker and resurrected by Ra's Al Ghul.
Tumblr media
Given a second chance at life, he comes to a revelation that villains should NOT be left alive. Villains, especially the Joker, have caused the suffering of thousands of people, as said by Jason Todd in Under The Red Hood.
Tumblr media
Leaving villains alive will risk more innocent lives and graveyards to be filled when it easily could have been prevented.
But there is an opposite argument that does have merit to it. In DC, there is a crook turned superhero named Plastic Man who, after multiple chances, turned his life around for the better.
At the end of the day, Jason is ending a human life. A life with the potential to convert and change for the better. They're capable of changing, but it's a risky game to play. This is what makes Jason Todd a morally gray character. You understand his motivations, and depending on who you are, you agree or disagree with his actions. There is no easy answer for a topic like this.
So, what about Alastor? Well, he's just not a good person at all. Does he do some good things? Yeah, but he mostly does them in exchange, which will benefit him. He doesn't do anything out of the kindness of his heart (if he even has one), nor does he do stuff, which he believes is right.
So, as always, this blog will be separated into two sections listing the reasons why I don't believe Alastor is morally gray, starting off with status.
Alastor is an Overlord who makes contracts with other demons to get them to submit their souls. Alastor has many souls in his possession, including Husk, and he holds all of them in for power. Immediately, this is not what a morally gray character is. I have yet to see a morally gray character who enslaves other people just to further their goals because that's just what an evil person would do.
And it's not like Alastor had no choice or did it for the greater good or did it to simply defend himself. He ambushed Overlords, took their souls, and broadcasted their fucking screams across Hell to show the denizens of Hell that he means business. He wants people to be afraid of him or respect him for his power.
youtube
Secondly, there's just him as a person. He genuinely sucks. Everything he does, he usually does it for himself or because he's told to by a higher power. He helps Charlie just so he could watch the Sinners fail for laughs. He helps Vaggie with the commercial so he wouldn't have to make one ever again. He makes a deal with Charlie in exchange for a favor he'll likely use to his advantage in the future. All of these "kind" actions are usually in exchange for something else, he doesn't do anything out of the kindness of his heart just to further his own agenda.
Tumblr media
And if you really think about it, Alastor contributed very little to the hotel despite making a deal with Charlie that he would help her. They only got one new patron, which was Sir Pentious, and it stayed that way for 6 months. Apparently, Charlie, Vaggie, and Alastor suck at their job if they can't bring any new members lmao. And no, just because a villain did something nice for once doesn't make them morally gray.
Thanos helped an old lady cross the street just so he could ruin some woman's life, that definitely doesn't make him morally gray.
Tumblr media
Morally, gray characters are complicated, and that's what makes them interesting. Alastor isn't complicated. He's just a power-hungry psycho who eats people and wants to have fun. He's the perfect example of simplicity.
Just because Alastor will potentially be a morally gray character or complicated character in the future doesn't mean he is one now. And I say potentially because the writers of Hazbin and Helluva like to set things up with underwhelming payoffs. But that's a future blog for a different day.
In conclusion, Alastor is not a good person. He's a bad guy, and just because he's the protagonist doesn't make him any less evil or any more good. Anyway, thanks for reading, and I hope you all have a good one. ❤️‍🔥

I'm gonna be straight up, Vaggie is severely underdeveloped as a main character in Hazbin Hotel. One of the major aspects of her character that didn't even get explored was her change of heart towards demons.
As said by Adam, Vaggie was one of his best Exorcists, and since Adam doesn't really mention any other of his Exorcists aside from Lute, it's possible that she was nearly as bloodthirsty and skilled as Lute, but not equally.
Tumblr media
However, three years before the events of Hazbin Hotel, Vaggie showed mercy to a Demon child. Lute caught her, crippled her, and left her for dead in Hell. I'll get to that part in an entirely different blog, but what I'm trying to say is that it's just never explored.
Tumblr media
Why did Vaggie spare the Demon Child despite being one of Adam's best Exorcists? What caused the sudden change of heart towards demons? Had it been an adult Demon, would she kill it? There are so many questions that could have been answered and given Vaggie more depth if the writers focused on developing their main cast instead of cramming in as many characters and plotlines as they could within 8 episodes.
And I'm not gonna lie..Vaggie really needs more development because she honestly feels like the Millie of Hazbin Hotel. She's more defined by her relationship with Charlie, and the Exorcist aspect of her isn't explored all that much in the series.
As of now, I don't have any rewrite ideas or even ideas as to how Vaggie even made this significant 180. Anyway, that's all for today.

Ever since the first season of Hazbin Hotel ended, I've seen people excuse the reason why Hazbin Hotel is rushed the way it is because of the episode count and the runtime of each episode.
Hazbin Hotel has 8 episodes, with each one being about 24 to 25 minutes long, and while that is really short of a runtime compared to other Amazon shows like Invincible, I don't believe it's an excuse for the bad pacing of the show overall. The writers had 8 episodes to make a coherent and well-paced story, but instead, they chose to just stuff as many things as they could within those 8 episodes, which leaves out a bunch events in the story poorly written or entirely unnecessary.
An example of this is Velvette. Throughout the third episode of Hazbin, she kept preaching about wanting to fight back against the Angels now that they're aware that they can get killed.
Tumblr media
But she doesn't even do that. Instead she's just fucking chilling in her home while watching the main cast doing the thing she was preaching about prior. What was even the point of her inclusion in episode 3 or even in the first season as a whole when she wasn't even going to do what she preached afterwards?
Tumblr media
And this show having too much shit in it also messes up the main premise of the show itself that being redemption. In episode 4, Angel Dust is at his lowest point, as shown in the series. He continues to do drugs and drink alcohol despite being at the Hazbin Hotel the longest.
However, in episode 6, it's revealed that Angel Dust has been taking a break from drugs, has formed a bond with the rest of the main cast, and has even stood up to Valentino for the first time. In short, he's actually made progress at the Hotel and has developed as a character.
Tumblr media
But bad news, all that shit was off-screen. We never got to see Angel Dust actually develop as a character and form relationships outside of Husk, Charlie, and Vaggie. And it's simply because this show has some really horrid pacing and writing.
This show wants to cover like two seasons worth of plot in eight episodes, and I blame the writers for this. Stuffing your show with too many plots just results in them all not having the time necessary to grow. I get wanting to show your audiences as many things as you can, but some sacrifices have to be made for good writing.
Also, the fact that after episode two that each episode is like a month apart from each other is hilariously bad that it puts shonen timeskips to shame.

Back with the milk (kinda), time to talk about how Niffty fails at being comedic relief.
Niffty is most certainly a character in Hazbin Hotel. She's the main character who has the least amount of screentime in the show. Unsurprising considering the number of characters that were introduced in this mess of a season alone, which is another topic I'll get into on a different day, but today I'll be talking about a possibly non-canon aspect of Niffty. That being she's the comedic relief character.
I'm not entirely sure where this even came from because I haven't seen any statements of Niffty being the comedic relief character from the writers themselves. I've mostly seen people in the fanbase claim she is, but since I'm talking about how she fails in that aspect, I wouldn't mind seeing the proof of the writers themselves saying it.
Comedic relief characters are usually characters who are comedic to relieve the tension of an earlier scene.
This is a pretty great example of a comedic relief character in action.
youtube
After a tense moment of Star Lord promising to kill Gamora if she ever gets captured by Thanos and a possible final kiss between the two, Drax chews loudly on Zarg Nuts in a pretty unexpected way. While delivering some pretty hilarious lines and movements afterwards. This is what a comedic relief character is. They relieve the tension of a previous scene, giving the audience something to laugh at.
And this is where Niffty fails for the most part because of two reasons. The first one is that she doesn't have much screentime. As I said before, she's likely the main character in Hazbin Hotel with the least amount of screentime, and because of that, she doesn't get any prevalent moments where she relieves tension. Is she comedic in some scenes she's featured in? Sure, but just being comedic doesn't always mean a character lightens the mood.
The second reason is that I'm not entirely sure if the writers know how to use comedic relief characters or if they know what comedic relief is. Whenever Niffty does something funny, it's usually in a part of the episode where there's no tension, or she, in fact, makes things worse. Which is the opposite of relief.
For instance, when Niffty stabs through Adam. It was a pretty prevalent moment for Niffty, but it wasn't a tense moment in the slightest because Adam had already been defeated but wasn't killed because Charlie stopped Lucifer from continuing to beat him to a bloody pulp. The situation was already solved by then.
Tumblr media
An example of my second reasoning is when she unintentionally causes problems for Angel Dust in Episode 6. Being under the influence, she runs toward Valentino, letting Angel Dust and Valentino confront each other. Though this did show that Angel Dust has gotten stronger mentally against Valentino, it still caused tension, which is something a comedic relief character isn't supposed to do.
So to pretty much make Niffty more of a comedic relief character, they just need to give her some more damn screentime and actually learn how to place her in a scene where she can ease the tension. In short, they should make her a comedic relief character. Again, I'm not entirely sure if the "comedic relief" thing was just something the fandom came up with or something that the writers actually said. Regardless, her actions just aren't consistent with what she's intended to be, but that could be fixed in the future.
As for..me, uh, I'm back, but not really. This blog was something of a reminder that I'm alive because I've been radio silent for a couple of weeks. Still in college doing college work, but I do have some blogs in drafting. I have seen the latest Helluva Boss teaser, but I don't care about that right now. Anyway, thanks for reading, and I'll see y'all in the next one. Whenever that will be.

Do you think we can boycott helluva boss considering there was rumors she outsourced and underpaid her current staff with the mid-season 'premiere because season 3 is being recorded for voicework while season 2 still isn't finished and that's really worrying if viv is overworking her staff for really rushed stollitz endgame poorly paced writinf.she has proven to keep with adam... truly not ready for the future...
Yeah, don't give her the viewership, just watch it on watchcartoonsonline or download it by using an MP4 converter. A portion of the money made does come from ad revenue, so if you wanna watch the show but don't want to support the creator I suggest those options. Also, please spread the article I reblogged around.

I live in a day and age where Charlie Morningstar from Hazbin Hotel is an even worse pacifist than Steven Universe. Why is she apologizing for defending herself against Exorcists who want to kill her? Why was she apologizing for attacking them?

I find it even worse that a Jewish dude has the physical appearance of what the Nazis considered to be the Ideal Aryan.
Vivziepop made Saint Peter, a Middle Eastern Jewish fisherman, into a white dude with blonde hair and blue eyes. You can't make this up, bro

So you're telling me, Lute permentantly crippled Vaggie just because Vaggie spared one Demon? Why are the Angels so concerned about Demons killing them when they leave their own for dead? Why did Lute leave Vaggie for dead? This show is so fucking shit.
Plus, it also confirms that Angels can be harmed by their own weapons. So, that theory of Carmilla killing the Exorcist with an Exorcist weapon is more plausible.

Reminder that the problem with "Poison" isn't so much Poison/episode 4 itself...
It's the fact that Vivzie got an Angel/Val rape fetishist -- one who had to leave Twitter after making inappropriate comments at a 15 year old -- to do it. The fact that Viv's always had a taste for noncon/dubcon herself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's the fact that "Poison" is less a musical number than an homage to Raphielle's Val/Angel noncon works.
It references poses, scenes, and at one point literally quotes a comic they did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The problem isn't so much the scene. The problem, as always, is the people running the show.

Also to add to my previous post, it would've been neat if Vaggie said something along the lines of
"I heard he's able to strip Overlords of their ranks once they've made a deal with them. Who knows what will happen to your status as a princess!"
