Oh lordy is there bad things going down across the VTuber space right now so I’m gonna try and unpack them for ease of comprehension.

Real quick: A VTuber is essentially just a regular livestreamer but instead of a facecam they have a custom model (usually made of layered images but also often a full 3D object) that tracks their face and such. Big tiddy anime girl representation to say the least but it’s a very creative space.

Next: Silvervale, Silver for short. Silver is one such big tiddy anime (wolf) girl, who is part of a corporate group of VTubers called VShojo. I probably don’t need to describe much more for the purposes of this post.

Hogwarts Legacy is a video game based in the bigotry-entrenched universe of the Harry Potter franchise by notorious face-of-transphobia Joanne K. Rowling. Since its announcement in 2018, trans individuals and groups have quite rightly highlighted numerous ethical and moral problems with the game ranging from the inherent bigotry of the setting, to the involvement of literal far-right YouTubers in its development, to just the basic stuff like its success greenlighting further instalments all while Rowling pockets royalties to (expressly) further fund her anti-trans projects (which includes her writing Literally being read into record to quash things like the Equality Act).

The general advice, which would be true regardless of your actual thoughts on the game or franchise, was to just not play it. That way Rowling makes less money, fewer future games are made, and nobody gets hurt as a result. You end your day $60 better off that you can spend on some other big game that isn’t basically radioactive.

To say the Video Gamers did not take that advice well would be an understatement, but things get really ugly when a streamer who otherwise professes to creating a calm and friendly atmosphere, who makes claims to being an ally, gives in and plays the Wizard Game. I’m not going to say that people haven’t been harassed for playing it, almost certainly someone has, but I just don’t have the data to be certain that it goes much further than just posting “trans rights” in chat.

Enter Silvervale. Despite half a decade of advance warning that she shouldn’t play this game, she played it anyway. Live on camera. The community she’d fostered for years didn’t take this well either, and the stream ended early amid purported harassment from the chat. Silver wasn’t the first VTuber to play the Wizard Game, but she was one of the first English-speaking ones.

Things could have just quietly ended there, but Silver then returned to streaming with more of the game and a statement that she had been “harassed” by “freaks and degenerates” on Twitter. Not her best choice of words, but the damage was done.

Because of the 5-year leadup to the Wizard Game releasing, the right-wing mob had already noticed the controversy around it and had made Huge investments into buying and promoting the game as well as spewing vitriol against anyone who even slightly suggested that doing so was in poor taste. They naturally then flocked to Silver’s defense and, following her unfortunate description of “marginalised people making their discomfort known as they had declared they would Years in advance” using language straight from 1930s Germany, started directly attacking any streamer who voiced their intent not to play the game however detailed their reasoning.

As a brief aside, there’s some confusion over how Silver’s chat moderation is set up, seemingly blocking such phrases as “trans rights are human rights”. Some say it’s an overzealous automod, others that her moderators are actually blocking the phrases, it’s unclear and not hugely worth focusing on here. But I mention it because it’s one of the common points made as people state their side on this issue.

This has essentially made Silver the face of transphobic bigotry in the VTuber community, whether or not she actually considers herself aligned with such bigots. Multiple smaller and independent trans VTubers have completely stopped streaming because of the bile being spewed at them by people with the likes of #IStandWithSilver in their bios. The overlaps between accounts on social media posting in her defense and numerous far-right hate movements is as undeniable as it is unpleasant to catalogue.

And boy that’s just the foundation of this whole sorry affair.

Another VTuber who is part of the same company as Silver, VShojo, is Apricot (more commonly called Froot). Froot not only decided to vocally not play the Wizard Game, but to post a tweet saying that she would personally donate to UK trans children’s charity Mermaids for every like the tweet received. She added that her brother is trans and she supports him immensely.

So the bigots that leapt to Silver’s defense very predictably started calling Froot a paedophile and child groomer, which is more or less what they label every pro-trans individual ever these days. Froot had to lock replies on her charity post and her post about her brother as a result, though the tweets remain up.

Most recently, a third peer in VShojo called Ironmouse came to Silver’s defense specifically in opposition to the alleged harassment she received which, again, anyone could have seen coming in the last 5 years by googling the Steam page for this game.

And honestly, at this point, whatever actually happened to Silver in that first stream is completely irrelevant because she’s become the rallying cry of people who actively want to exterminate the entire trans community from cradle to grave and literally beyond. And so much of it could be resolved or at least get the wind out of its sails if she took 5 minutes to just apologise for and disavow everything that happened in her name after she decided to keep playing the Wizard Game.

But, and I say this with no disrespect to Silver, I’m not holding my breath.

I love hearing people’s music recommendations, so I was wondering if you listen to music whilst you draw and if there’s any songs in particular that make you think of the characters and/or the ship?

Also, I get a bit nervous posting about Charlastor because of some of the hate it gets in the fandom and because some of my irl classmates who follow me don’t like the ship (and don’t know I like it), so I was wondering what your general mindset is when you post your art online, but also what your mindset is like when posting Charlastor art, knowing what the fandom can be like?

Finallyy, I wanted to ask if you’ve read Under My Skin by whamagram on AO3 and if you have, what are your thoughts on it? It’s a mature slowburn Radiobelle fic and only has a few chapters out so far, but it’s updated pretty regularly and has become my new favourite at the moment! I highly highly recommend it because it’s super well-written, really witty, and really understands the characters. It’s all about Charlie nursing Alastor back to health after the final battle in season 1 and it’s just so well done!!

Again, just want to say that I really really love your work and thank you for sharing it! I especially love how you draw expressions and the way you draw characters and their emotions feels so real. Seeing your illustrations inspires me to keep practicing with my own art!

As for your next question...

This isn't my first rodeo in the unpopular non-canon het presenting ship club, so there's a few things I like to remind myself of when I feel that people pleaser anxiety sneaking up on me:

if people truly wanted to avoid content of the ship, they'd block the tags. Maybe kindly ask your friend to block the charlastor and radiobelle tags bc you want to post about them? This way they're not forced to see what they dislike and you get to have your harmless fun. If they're opposed to this, question why. It's not your job to curate *their* online experience, they do have all the necessary tools at their disposal.

I consider the source material like a toy box. You can play with the dolls in it like the packaging intended for you to, but there's no rules dictating that you can't play *your* way if that's more fun to you.

Canon is in my eyes the preferred suggestion, but not the law - don't we all just smush the heads of dolls together making kissy noises in our minds at the end of the day?

A lot of people sadly treat shipping like it's a battle for author validation, when in reality it was always just a way to playing with hypotheticals and exploring the world and characters canon offered us in new and interesting ways... I hate the attitude some people have about canonicity. Imo, as long as you're not acting like your non-canon ship should be canon and shit on other ships in the process, you're not doing any harm.

Now... Canon sexualities and having contrary headcanons are a tricky road to travel because there's so much emotional investment in the canon representation of often overlooked or mishandled minority groups, and this is the biggest anti argument I've seen get thrown around, since Charlastor as a ship not only splits up the canon lesbian pairing, but also alters Alastor's canon sexuality to make the ship work.

What's important here is that you handle it respectfully - i.e. don't be a dick and go around acting like your preferred ideas are better and should be canon or whatever. Attitude is important, respect canon for what it is and embrace the fact that your ship is not. It's not a detriment! It just means we have to make all of our own content lol.

I personally headcanon Alastor as demisexual/demiromantic not only because it still fits under the aspec umbrella, but also because I myself am both of those things and enjoy messing with the characters and narrative using a dynamic I have a lot of personal experience with! It's fun to hit someone as haughty and stubbornly emotionally detached as Alastor with a flurry of unexpected, unwanted feelings and struggling to navigate them.

Do I want that to be canon? Absolutely not! I'm just having fun with my imaginative toys in my own corner of the internet lol.

Also for the record, I think Chaggie is cute and they should absolutely stay together, I just don't find them interesting enough to explore further in the realm of fanfiction and art :'D

Ultimately I'm a strong believer of "I can post whatever I want forever", if anyone has an issue with it and the given tools at their disposal aren't enough to deal with it, they're free to unfollow and/or block me! I don't need anyone's approval to have harmless fun with my artistic and writing skills where I don't bother anyone, and that's imo always what should be at the core of creating just about anything.

GET OUR SH*T TOGETHER IN 2024

If you are someone like me and you have been slacking in the self department in 2023 join me and we can do it together! <3

I have been drafting up for the last couple of days some tips and tricks that I feel will help me and hopefully you too :)

Firstly I want to say that glowing up or trying to work for the better version of you can be manageable, by starting small and building the certain habits that you feel will suit you, at first it doesn't even have to cost money or a lot of your time, however it does require a lot of discipline and patience with yourself.

Journaling

How does Journaling help?

Journaling helps you understand your emotional reactions more clearly, and puts you in control of your emotions instead of the other way around.

Meaning that through this you will be able to figure out the things you might feel might be harder for you at the beginning, its important not to rush this progress.

2. Routine

I know everybody often talks about this topic, and often times no one talks about how hard the adjusting period actually is, it is hard to change everything or even a small significant thing around you especially when you've been getting used to not having such an active life or perhaps some of us feel additionally on top of our other lifestyle arrangements to add ourselves on top is too much which takes me to my next point which is time blocking.

3. Time Blocking

Time blocking is the process of breaking your schedule down into individual blocks of time it can be a great way to increase focus and productivity. I usually do this in 3 steps

Choose in advance what to work on. (I usually do it 2 nights or the night before)

Decide when to tackle priority tasks, this can be done in whichever interval you would like, I usually do it hourly.

Block off a chunk of time on your calendar for each task.

Now that we have the 3 basics down, we can create the routine we want to and implement the goals we wish to achieve:

BODY

In 2024 I certainly and Im sure alot of us have certain gym goals that we would like to achieve, this in turn working out has great benefit not only to your body but also your mental health over time. Even 30 minutes a day will make a big impact especially at the beginning if you are someone like me who hates the gym at the beginning but feel great afterwards, try to start small, a small walk, a small 10 minute YouTube video work out and slowly add more time as more weeks go by.

SKINCARE

One of my biggest goal is definitely towards my skin.

Its important to get out of the habit of not washing or being gentle with your skin, whatever you do one thing i will always say to prioritise is moisturising, MOISTURISE, MOISTURISE!

I have had acne and bad skin since I was a teenager no matter what I've put on my face from retinoids, to all these different creams and acids one thing I will ALWAYS say makes all the difference now and even long term is keeping your skin hydrated and wearing sunscreen, you can even get a 2 in 1 moisturiser and sun cream.

CLOTHES

Basics will be the way to go, if you're looking to investing into a new wardrobe in 2024 one thing my mother and over time i have learned that basics will never run out of fashion its the accessories that you'll need to put an extra time and eye on, a bag, jewellery, coats, sunglasses, focus on certain things that will bring out a staple to your outfit.

BONUS

I am of course adding manifestation and the songs, reprograming your thinking into this as a bonus, this is for the ones that want to either practice this or already do BUT I feel that making your affirmation playlist/ song will work better at time rather than the ones on youtube, don't get me wrong subliminal on YT they do work but if you were to make it yourself it has that extra pull. I made my own about a month ago and it has been working great for me.

Additionally I would also like to mention the importance of paying more attention to the songs and the words you listen to, the things you watch on social media, not everything has to be consumed, either a social media cleanse or trying to change your algorithm I feel is a key when it comes to wanting to grow within one self.

GRATITUDE

When you journal, try to leave a section at the end of the day for the things you feel grateful, i promise, try it for a week, it'll change your life.

steddie fandom is wild because sometimes I'll be reading a fic and for some reason Robin is more of a friend to Eddie then she is with Steve.

Which is hilarious because the most emotional conversation they had with each other in the show is Robin criticizing Eddie's music taste as NOT music.

Head Cannon all you want but, I think she is firmly staying on her own side side of the music vibe chain. Not even if you have your punk or rock steves, which are fun au's but often feel like changing Steve to fit Eddie.

Steve is a bitchie sports dude that is great at being a baby sitter, (has lingering high school hierarchy personality but pretty much seems to pretty done with that).Wishes for everyone to be safe and will decimate himself in the process to achieve that, (and may accidentally be overprotective at times)he maybe isn't the smartest buckaroo in the room but will notice the things people miss and can make a makeshift plan in tight situations. Also painfully durable, at a certain point I'm pretty sure he can take a grenade to the chest and come out with some small cuts on his chest. He is thoroughly invested with his friends and wants to get them to be the best them they want to be,talking to Robin about the girl she always likes, watched star wars with Dustin and thinks the fact he has a girlfriend is great (even if he doesn't believe it). Alongside that he is a very gossipy individual and is very mean girl oriented.

Eddie is loud and greatly theatrical, he loves going against the man and the social system as much as he can. (Despite his wishes for going against the norm he also has a habit of also putting people in boxes, which he learns to practically not do over the course of season 4 due to his experience with steve and Chrissy). He has a habit of being soft and silly to try and make situations less tense and make people smile. He is extremely skittish despite his slightly mean persona that his friends are normally accustomed to. (As seen with his rough push for Dustin and Mike to find a replacement as he considers Lucas to have joined "the dark side",Dustin and Mike also seem scared before they have to tell the news too). After the Chrissy scenario he is extremely tense and for a long time skittish and uneasy as he currently being hunted. When he learns of the final battle he seems show his soft side to Dustin and overcome his skittishness in a last stand with vecna that ultimately leaves him dead.

These both characters intercept at their deep relationship with Dustin and wanting Dustin to be the best Dustin could be. What makes their relationship in fanon work is Steve's relentless drive to protect, be selfless while be a mean girl who gossips at the same time(looking badass during it). Steve to Eddie is someone by technicality, going against the norm in a unexpected way. In a way not even he can expect, and that he in a large way, he admires(while also admiring Steve's chest). While Steve can admire Eddie's ability to be Eddie, to bring out the part of Dustin that Steve can't quite understand but firmly supports.

Changing any of the two characters a lil too much can feel like copping out or kind of getting rid of what makes that character that character. Also, Robin is her own character too and needs more nuance then being seemingly changed to fit into a eddified box.

Idk maybe I'm big dumb and looking too much into things. I have a habit of also not understanding stuff either so, I'm sorry

I've heard some say that Belos is a boring villain because he only relies on religion, his god complex, angst, and trauma to keep the audience invested and lacks development. Do you believe that to be true?

There are factors of this that I both agree with and disagree with.

Prepare for another essay, because you triggered:

I am so sorry for rambling like this.

Philip is a fairly static character throughout the series, as most of his development occurred off screen in the past. So, I can understand why some people think he’s boring, but I find it really interesting in the way his behaviors and even lies reveal information about him.

Let’s start with the religion. Philip is an extremely devout person. He spent almost four hundred in what he believed to be Hell to save humanity from evil. But the way he uses the Titan as a manner to control people is indicative of what his life was like back on Gravesfield.

Puritan beliefs could be more described as the following: humans are born sinful and impure, you must devote your life to a strict set of standards and rules to try to make God happy, everyone is born predetermined to go to Heaven or Hell but will not know until after death, and death is the ultimate punishment for Adam’ and Eve’s sin. They also took great care in analyzing everything around them for signs of God’s pleasure or displeasure.

How much are those beliefs echoed in the cult he created on the Isles?

Philip absolutely has a God Complex, made clear by his repeated creation and termination of the Grimwalkers in an attempt to create the “perfect” Caleb. By doing that, he is claiming that God himself made his brother wrong and that he can do better. If that isn’t ego, I don’t know what is.

However, I’ve noticed a certain amount of behavior that could come across as self loathing or even an inferiority complex. Often, these behaviors are seen together with god/superiority complexes masking the insecurities that lie beneath.

The first evidence of this occurs when we see his face for the first time. Not the scar, but his ears. Many noted (correctly) that they were too small to be witch ears and looked more like cropped human ears. As we later find out, Philip cut parts of his ears off to blend in more thoroughly with BI society. He likely didn’t even need to do this due to the t of illusion stones (like the Blight twins use) that can modify his appearance. Alternatively, he could have simply covered his ears with his hair. Some braids or a specific hairstyle could have done the trick, but he chose to permanently scar himself.

Later, when we confirm the connection of Belos being Philip, we also find out that he carved glyphs on his arms to utilize magic. Once again, he could have stuck with his staff, as it doesn’t require such measures to utilize (see: Hunter and the other Grimwalkers), but he still chose to do something permanent and harmful to himself.

We can see this come to a head in a particularly dangerous move: consuming Palismen. This was likely never done before due to the taboo on harming a witch’s bond with them. And Philip decided he would crack one open and absorb its magic. It could have killed him! It was part of the reason why he was cursed. Those are serious consequences, and yet he continued for centuries, making his curse worse and worse like an addiction to drugs.

Also, remember what he said at the end of Elsewhere and Elsewhen? “It doesn’t matter. I just need to live long enough to see this through.” Those are not the words of someone who values his life. In fact, that statement has led me to believe that he didn’t intend on living in the Human Realm after the Day of Unity. I think he intended to die there so he wouldn’t be trapped in the place he hated forever.

Now for the fun parts: angst and trauma.

I sometimes feel that he’s made more overtly cruel than he probably would be at times in order to drive home the point that he’s evil, and I can understand that. However, Philip’s behavior towards the Grimwalkers was likely based on a mixture of him being a shit person, displacement theory, and the standards of punishment/child rearing he was used to.

From a storytelling standpoint, he’s incredibly useful as a driving force for multiple characters, and that makes him intriguing.

But here’s another detail I noticed: Philip considered the making of his Grimwalkers one of his worst memories. In Kings Tide, we see the paintings of him meeting his brother with Evelyn, Caleb’s body after the fight, and the first Grimwalker being made. And it’s that last one where Philip finally loses it.

The process of making Grimwalkers was incredibly traumatic for him, and the fact that he engaged in this behavior continuously over more than three hundred years indicates some form of emotional self harm. He forces himself to go through the stress and effort of painstakingly making and raising these beings to be the way he wants them to be. And they fail every single time. He even begins branding them to show that he intends for them to die, no matter what.

So what is the point of that? Why would he do that?

He’s cultivating the emotions he experienced when he lost his brother—the event that drove him to hold the goal of genocide instead of simply getting Caleb home. He has to keep doing this or he’ll lose the ability to stay motivated and continue his goal.

It’s incredibly tragic, and it implies he’s tired, that he wants it to be over.

Then again, considering that most of this is my over-analysis and not actually stated in canon, I may just be falling into the exact trap you suggested.

To conclude, Philip Wittebane is a character whose motivations for his actions and beliefs are largely implied as opposed to outright stated, and it can make him difficult to enjoy as a character. The majority of those who like him tend to either like his surface attributes/aesthetic or the depth that could have been revealed through scrutinization.

Signalis Post (barely coherent thought vomit)

So I finished signalis on Monday and i think ive just about recovered enough for me to make a gush post about it on tumblr dot com, which i think i have to do cause i dont think any other game has really hit me as hard as this one. Spoilers obvs.

Being pre-transion, with that associated depression and closing off from oneself, ive always found it difficult to get out my feelings, even in private with just myself, and yet signalis has filled me throughout with its beautiful romantic melancholy and left me genuinely sobbing for the gay robot and her space girlfriend (almost worried that if id played this game on estrogen it might actually have just killed me on the spot). the only other times i can think of where i really cried were playing We Know The Devil near the beginning of the year, which really fkin hit the part of me that struggles to accept myself, and that time i rewatched the last episode of she-ra after reading the ‘Word War Etheria’ fanfic, which brings the characters so much more to life i fell for them all over again.

Signalis is a game that calls back to a lot of classic horror like resident evil and silent hill, which i havent got round to playing any of yet, but i think nostalgia works both ways sometimes and i’ll be playing them sooner now. sometimes horror gets stereotyped as all death and violence, some games fill themselves with skulls and corpses, and big ugly monsters and basically shout ‘DEATH!’ in your face repeatedly and it all just comes off as a bit garish and ridiculous and not actually very scary really. Signalis sits at the other end of that scale (with some of my other fav horror games like soma, cry of fear) where its environs are most usually just… quiet. Still. Muffled. Sad. just as often as theres tension or creeping fear because of this i find theres a strange kind of comfort too. Maybe its just that in most other genres of games theres so much of music, UI elements, pickups and interactibles with vibrant design. Here, theres room for your mind to just occupy the space. A soft fog. A dimly lit room. An empty train. Snow out a window. Liminal spaces that dont expect anything from you.

Signalis is a game thats just simply, unapologetically gay, and i dont think i would have been quite so invested in Elster and Ariane’s relationship if they were a straight couple. Its why representation is important, if art’s way for us to explore our emotions then its important to have media that we can relate to. Even Adler’s role isnt typically masculine. Our replika characters are manufactured, designed for certain roles in the base. Notes from the tough Stars and Storchs in the shooting range, the dollish Eules with the fairy lights and music player in the dorm. I couldnt help but think of groups of Eules sat around chatting, together, and im yearning for that feeling of togetherness, of understanding a friend that closely. I somehow missed the couple in the mineshaft (next playthough, ill find you v_v ). Despite the harshness of life in the Eusan nation (especially for the gestalts) the characters in it are defined by their feelings of belonging and hope. With the obvious parallels to east germany, i think of posters of cosmonauts and space travel from the time. Propaganda, sure but also made with the genuine belief in something greater. When the events of the game take this away, well, we find the last Kolibri, whod rather lose herself than lose her [ah. Im not sure theres a word here to properly describe the relationship they embody]. Its a game defined by loneliness.

We dont lie up at night scared by some corrupted android. We arent stuck with horror at the flesh everywhere, not on its own. We lie awake thinking about Elster and Ariane’s love for each other, the horror of their decline, the futility of trying to hold on forever. Its existential horror done perfectly. It shows an ending postponed and stretched far beyond its limits, and so squarely reminds you that you do, in fact, have to die one day. You’ll break down. One day you’ll say your last words to the people you love and you wont even know you have. Ariane’s final few diaries arrive with the full force of the narrative behind it, like a spear through my heart. For the record, I got the promise ending. Im still sad. It's a game about raging desperately against an unfair ending. I might think about this game for the rest of my life. I would sincerely say its an artistic masterpiece, by the sure definition of video games as art.

I like that the story leaves a lot open and abstract. I think it makes the emotional themes takes centre stage more. And i havent had nearly enough time to sift through it and come up with my own takes, we’ll need a few more playthroughs for that. And theres so much more to say that cant go in just these few paragraphs! Signalis is a game about two girls who had to run away from everything to find someone they belonged with. The universe may be cold and bleak, but you have to try, you might just find something beautiful, even if it doesnt last forever. I think if anything, we should all have the chance to find love and happiness like that, and we shouldnt have abandon a world that doesnt work for us to do it.

Bang Chan || knight of swords rx, the chariot: Domineering. Wants to lead + to feel the strongest, even if it requires some gaslighting. Lacks tact, at times. May miss some social cues without realizing. Uses rudeness as a way to mask his insecurities. Uses his career achievements as his whole identity.

Lee Know || the hermit, the world: Keeps too many secrets; really bad at communicating and being honest about his thoughts and opinions. Silence is always the solution for him, just not for everybody else. It's never him that has to change, but others; others must adapt to him, not him to them. A know-it-all, too.

Changbin || nine of wands rx, two of cups: He wants his friends/family/partners to have the exact same opinions and tastes as him. Plus, he can't stand feeling left out, so bet he's going to be jumping through hoops to be everywhere all time just so they don't have a chance to keep things from him - he must be present and informed, at all times! Changbin is also very paranoid and overprotective, has poor boundaries and may sometimes become quite co-dependent. He simply can't be alone for too long.

Hyunjin || knight of cups, justice: He knows how to sweet-talk someone to get whatever he wants. Hyunjin will become whoever you wish him to become in order to accomplish his own goals. He's well aware of his image + the of the power he holds over others, and he's not afraid of using it. Besides that, he also gets way too invested in things, even to the point of being completely unrealistic with his plans and expectations. Everyone is "the one" for him at least once.

Han || knight of cups, eight of wands rx: Loses interest very quickly; starts or buys things on a whim, but forgets about them overnight. In love with the idea of love, but doesn't feel like going through all of the hard work that relationships require. Often lets his emotions control him more than he controls them; definitely keeps his rose tinted glasses close by. But, again, soon he's onto the next thing (or person of interest)…

Felix || the hanged man rx, two of pentacles: He's never happy with what he has; always thinks others have it easier or better than him. Very impulsive; regrets his decision as soon as he makes them. Felix never learns… he'll make the same mistake a thousand times and still not understand what he's doing wrong. Keeps busy to avoid certain people/situations/issues.

Seungmin || four of pentacles, queen of wands: Greedy; what's his is his, and he's not going to share it with anybody. Way too proud. Likes attention and compliments a little too much. Materialistic; uses material things to get the attention/compliments that he's looking for.

I.N || the tower rx, nine of cups rx: Tends to sweep things under the rug instead of facing his issues properly. I.N's always expecting the worst, so quite often he might run away before the situation has had time to develop. Hates change more than anything - even good and necessary change! Might throw a big ol' tantrum every now and then.

14. Has their relationship ever been long-distance?

They weren’t officially in a relationship back then but they were definitely crushing / deeply attached so I’m still gonna say yes — during her first year at Basgiath. It was incredibly difficult for her, and being away from Liam (her support system and her favorite person ever), made it even harder.

15. Is one of them way more invested in the relationship than the other?

The word “way” is throwing me off here, and this sounds bad, but I’d say spark is slightly more invested in the relationship? Or at least it feels that way to her. All of spark’s feelings are intense, including the positive -- high highs and low lows. She has a desperate need to protect Liam from all the shit she went through in her own first year at Basgiath, even if he doesn’t return her feelings (he does, but neither of them have said that part out loud yet, and she also has trouble accepting the fact that someone as good as Liam could love her back, especially the way she is now -- trauma!)

16. How happy are they about their relationship?

Once they get out of the mutual pining phase and figure out that they’re in love / admit that to each other, they’ll be very happy.

17. How good are they at communicating their needs and preferences to the other?

Not great. Spark is kinda like Angel in the way that she doesn’t care for her own needs, but a bit different. Angel often neglects herself by focusing on others too much, but Spark doesn’t think she deserves to be taken care of, even by herself. There are also certain self-care things that she particularly struggles with these days (you’ll see a bit of what and why in the next chapter). Liam will have to gently coax her into it, which should be pretty easy — she’d do anything he asked, honestly.

Liam also doesn’t want to burden her with anything, since he’s a pretty self-sufficient, independent guy, and because she’s clearly occupied dealing with her own shit. But she knows him too well; as soon as she notices her happy boy start to dim a bit, she knows something is wrong and she’s on the case, ready to help make him feel better and/or to fuck up whoever hurt him.

18. How good are they at respecting each other’s boundaries?

Very good. You’ll see in their next chapter, and the ones following, that Liam knows something is up, that she’s changed in her year away, but he isn’t going to demand answers or push her to tell him about it. He’s gonna continue to be gentle with her, prove that he’s safe and that he cares for her and won’t judge her etc., and let her tell him when she’s ready to.

Spark tries very hard not to be overbearing -- I mentioned she has that deep need to protect Liam, but she knows he can protect himself physically, and she doesn’t want to come across as not trusting him / overbearing / etc. She’s more quiet with her protection of him -- drying his clothes before he crosses the parapet, asking Xaden to put him in her squad, and more that you’ll see later.

it was so hard to answer these without giving absolutely everything away hsjsbj but I tried. I love them so much and I hope you’ll start to love them too as you see more of them together 💗

I don’t feel like these endings have occurred for most of you yet, but you may know that they are needed. I feel like you are likely trying to carry on as though everything is fine, even when it isn’t.

The third card to come out for this pile was the Page of Cups. This is associated with emotional communication. I feel like this is you knowing that you need to express your emotions and needs more, especially in regards to relationships in your life where you feel like you aren’t appreciated and/or respected - which is the main message your intuition is likely trying to get you to notice.

The first oracle card to come out for this pile was Law Of Attraction. This is generally thought of with romantic relationships, but it applies to more than just that. This may suggest that there’s more than meets the eye in a situation, which you likely already feel with the topic of this read. Pile 2/Supernatural

The first card to come out for this pile was the 7 of Pentagrams, which is basically the 7 of Pentacles in this deck. This is associated at looking things that are worth investing time into for long-term results. These things often require patience, since the results aren’t seen quickly. This can be a variety of things, including relationships. For the majority of you, I feel it is more of a personal idea that you are considering pursuing. Kinda like trying to start your own business or going into a certain field.

The second card to come out was the 2 of Bones, which is basically the 2 of Wands in this deck. This is associated with making personal choices. In this case, I feel like the choice is related about whether or not you want to pursue an idea and if said idea would pay off in the long-run. I feel like this choice is what you are called to trust your intuition about, which is likely easier said than done (at least for my personality lol).

The third card to come out for this pile was the Ace of Blades, which is basically the Ace of Swords in this deck. This is associated with ideas and thoughts. Basically, I feel like this is the idea that you are considering pursuing.

The first oracle card to come out for this pile was Focus On Service. This card is associated with people that enjoy helping others. This may suggest that you’re considering pursuing something that you feel will let you help others. There’s also a reminder of this card to make sure to maintain boundaries, since helping is good but you don’t want to end up being taken advantage of.

The second oracle card to come out for this pile was Intimacy - Open Up And Get Close. There are a few ways I feel this could apply. The first is that connections with others is strongly associated with the choice that you are considering. Like, the choice could be something that results in connections and needing to open up to others to form those connections. The other is that you could be advised to open up to others close to you for their advice on the choice you’re considering and their potential support for whatever option you choose to pursue. Just remember to keep in mind that the choice is yours.

Pile 3/Garbage Pail Kids

The first card to come out for this pile was the 10 of Coins. This is associated with financial stability and stability in the family. It’s a great place to be at, but doesn’t come easy.

The second card to come out for this pile was the 10 of Wands. This is associated with being worn out due to all of the responsibilities that you are carrying. I feel like a lot of these responsibilities are connected to you trying to maintain that 10 of Coins too much on your own without relying on the others involved. This could be a temporary situation, such as a health issue with a family member that has led you to take on more than usual.

The third card to come out for this pile was The World. This is associated with something coming to an end. This is generally positive and is something that leaves you feeling accomplished in some way. This pile is definitely heading towards the end of some kind of cycle with this card and the other two cards both being 10s. I feel like your intuition may be trying to guide you on how to finish a possibly difficult cycle up.

The first oracle card to come out for this pile was Relationship. This is a lot about remembering to take care of yourself because a neglected/worn out/frustrated you isn’t helpful to the relationships in your life, even if you are wearing yourself out to try to help those you care about.

The second oracle card to come out for this pile was Humility - Bow Down. Basically, I feel like this card is suggesting some humility as you acknowledge what your limits are. Unfortunately, we all have our limits and it isn’t always easy to admit when things are getting to be too much. I do feel like this is something that you need to do or you’re going to end up being burned out, if you aren’t already.

Pile 4/Rider-Waite

The first card to come out for this pile was the 9 of Cups. This has to with happiness and contentment. This is a more personal happiness rather than the 10 of Cups which is happiness with others. I feel like this is something that you have been working on and that you have begun becoming more happy/content with things in your life.

The second card to come out for this pile was the Knight of Wands. This is associated with being spontaneous. I feel like this is you trying to take more chances and explore more opportunities. A lot with just trying to be more carefree rather than super stressed. I think your intuition is trying to push you towards this a bit.

The third card to come out for this pile was the King of Swords. This is a logical individual who thinks before they act. I feel like this is your typical nature. This likely makes the Knight of Wands aspects a bit difficult for you since you prefer to think things through quite a bit before taking chances. For a few of you, it could be vice versa with you generally being more like the Knight of Wands and your intuition encouraging you to act a bit more like the King of Swords at times.

The first oracle card to come out for this pile was Steady Progress. Basically, you have been and are continuing to make slow, steady progress. I feel like the progress you’ve been making is connected to that 9 of Cups and your happiness.

The second oracle card to come out for this pile was Guilt - Turn Off The Alarm. I think this is something that you’ve been working on or need to work on. Basically, trying to release any feelings of guilt that you’ve been carrying with you. These don’t even have to necessarily be from things you’ve done. Perhaps this includes making some apologies, but a lot of taking steps to not carry such heavy feelings with you.

Pile 5/Mystical Manga

The first card to come out for this pile was the 9 of Wands. This is associated with perseverance and standing your ground. There can be repetitive battles/challenges with this card. This is likely beginning to wear you out, but you’re still persevering through whatever comes your way.

The second card to come out for this pile was the 5 of Cups. This is associated with disappointments and processing negative emotions. I feel like a lot of the negativity that you are dealing with is a result of the issues that you’re dealing with from that 9 of Wands.

The third card to come out for this pile was The Fool. This is associated with starting new things. I feel like this isn’t something you’re doing yet, since you’re focusing on healing from current/recent past experiences. I feel like your intuition will likely let you know when you are ready to move on to something new.

The first oracle card to come out for this pile was Fresh Air. This has a lot to do with spending time outside to calm yourself. Things I miss about old tv shows:

1. Set Designs

One thing I miss most is actual tangible set designs. There used to be a handful of sets that would get used time and time again, and the characters actually interacted with them. Sets now look so damn clinical and clean, characters barely interact with them (mostly because half of all sets are almost entirely CGI) and they barely change over the course of a season or episode. Reflect your characters’ mental states by their rooms. Make them messy, dirty, have characters comment on the state of certain sets. Come on make them UNIQUE. And not in the way of just the objects either, make them unkempt or overflowed and mix up the lighting a bit.

2. Actual Episodic Structure

Most TV shows I’ve watched that came out in the last few years have had a continuous plot. Which is great. It makes me invested in the story, makes me excited for the next episode. But unless done correctly, it can feel like nothing was actually achieved in those episodes. Often it comes that a character spends the entire episode trying to do something, only for their plan to unravel right at the end of the episode and the next episode to be set up. It makes me feel like nothing was actually completed. Every episode is designed to set up for the next one and in some cases this works, but in others it doesn’t. An episodic structure is where each episode has its own individual storyline that may or may not add to the overall plot. Avatar: The Last Airbender used this structure, as did the Star Trek series (excluding season 2~ of Discovery) and BBC Merlin. A structure like this adds considerably more to character development and subsequent relationships between characters before moving on to more plot-driven antics, which in turn raises the stakes.

3. Fantasy Lighting

This, I believe, is self-describing. TV shows are too dark. I can’t see. Even if you want to establish how dark a setting is, there is still usually a source of light that a character is holding. It’s enough to make us actually see what’s going on, so let us. Please. And, anyway, it’s fiction. Doesn’t have to always be 100% realistic.

4. Filler Episodes

This comes in tandem with episode numbers. I do understand that in production the creators don’t have much time to film and edit before release. But. Where did the 20 episode seasons go? A lot of series are being released half-and-half, but even if it’s weekly, most people I know would be fine with it as long as each episode is produced to the best of the ability of the creators. I also miss fillers. Give me those character shenanigans. No plot, just pure antics. Those episodes keep me alive.

4. CGI Consistency

I will always maintain the opinion that good CGI relies on how consistent its quality is throughout a film, season or episode. Personally, I don’t care how good the CGI is so long as it remains relatively the same level throughout what I’m watching. I see this a lot in recent tv shows *cough* marvel *cough* where one scene will have the most spectacular CGI ever seen and another looks more like a low-budget animated kids show. It breaks immersion. I’m not into it. Just give me bad CGI all the way through. Or, on contrast, no CGI whatsoever. Construct scenes using actual corporeal sets and makeup. I miss funky little puppets.

After @sillyshrimpfella suggested Disco Elysium tarot designs I haven’t been able to stop pondering it.

(Am I desperate to distract myself from terrible things in the world about which I can do nothing except “raise awareness” and donate money I don’t really have? …maybe)

It’s probably something that’s been done before, but here are my thoughts on the major arcana so far:

The Fool - Harry Du Bois. I was initially thinking the Magician for Harry, because of his effortless genius and creative mindset, but then I remembered the Fool, and… yeah. Naïveté, a fresh approach to the world, being ridiculous for better or worse - it’s all him, baby!

The Magician - Mega Rich Light Bending Guy. This one I am less certain of - I haven’t encountered him myself and I refuse to watch videos of it until I can make the check myself. I put him here because he does seem rather magical, but is he creative, talented, and an effortless genius? Unpredictable and unreliable? I really don’t know. Another person I was thinking of was Neha, she’s creative and industrious, but didn’t quite feel singular enough for the card, so I place her more as the Queen of Coins/Pentacles at the moment.

The High Priestess - Plaisance. She is a figure who (kind of) worships a higher power, and though she’s not really an oracle in the way that the card often represents, she’s a symbol of belief in the supra-natural in the forms of curses, entities, et cetera. Albeit in quite cheesy, culturally dicey ways.

The Empress - Joyce Messier. She presents feminine traditions and mannerisms, but also has a lot of institutional and traditional power as a representative of the capitalist world order.

The Emperor - Everart Claire. He’s a masculine-ish figure who uses his institutional power in the union to exert his influence on the world. Not physically imposing, but I don’t think that’s a requirement - he has a racist, a street gang, and an uncomfortable chair at his disposal where others would have fists to fight with.

The Hierophant - Dolores Dei. Yes, she’s the hierophant and not the priestess - Dolores is a figure of worship, not a worshipper, she represents organised faith rather than personal faith. You don’t have to stick 100% within the traditional genders for these cards.

The Lovers - Next World Mural. Self explanatory - I think that image would look good on a card too!

The Chariot - the Coupris Kineema. I like this because not only does it make sense sense to put a vehicle from the game on the chariot card, the sound of the Kineema is the journey from intro to gameplay, and this card is all about journeys!

Strength - Measurehead. Because… He’s strong. There’s not much more to this one; I’m happy to accept other ideas, especially since the card is usually a woman. Also, who or what would be the lion? Just… a picture of Jean-Luc Race Warrior wrestling a lion? …….actually what if this card depicted Samaran bear wrestling, that’s a fun alternative

The Hermit - Tiago the Crab Man. He is isolated by choice and strongly associated with philosophy. I was thinking the Deserter for this one originally, buttttt then I had a different idea for him.

Wheel of Fortune - the pleasure wheel. Visually fun. Also symbolically appropriate - the never-built attraction represents the investment gamble that didn’t pay off.

Justice - The Deserter. The card usually has a judge on it, dispensing retribution. The Deserter sees himself this way; he’s also a singular male figure with a “gavel” in the form of his rifle. Visually appropriate.

The Hanged Man - Lely Kortaneer. Because he is a hanged man. I wonder if he can be tied to the deeper meaning of the card through the “conversations” Harry has with him in his head, or simply through the fact that being dead he naturally has no agency?

Death - Working Class Corpse. This one is just sad. In some ways this death is more “death-y” than any other in the game, underlining how things, and people, can end abruptly and without warning. And his discovery is the end of an investigation, too.

Temperance - Washerwoman. Mainly a visual connection - she’s a woman with a container of water. The card could be her pouring washing water from one cup to another, and I think it would be a nice image.

The Devil - Cuno De Ruyter. He has given into vices already despite his young age, and he influences you to do the same. This is honestly one of the few places I consider a Fury could be a good choice for a card - Electrochemistry is basically the Devil personified.

The Tower - FELD R&D. A crumbling building where everything can quite easily go to shit - the tower is about things falling apart and potentially being rebuilt. The FALN employees fell apart - aka were executed - and Ruby is building something new in the ruins.

The Star - Klaasje Amandou. Kind of ironic to have her, a manipulator who’s always in control, on a card that represents leaving things to fate- but the visual of her hiding documents in the buoy really fits the traditional design of the card and could be adapted well, and while she’s not very up in the air herself, the skills all get up in the air while talking to her because of how you’re compromised by her beauty and charm. It’s not so much about where she finds herself, but where you find yourself in relation to her - unable to trust your own knowledge and defaulting to chance more often than you’d want.

The Moon - Insulindian Phasmid. It’s a mystery! Maybe it could be the crustacean in the design? Or it could be haloed by the moon the way Kim is haloed by the sun. I love the specification for the moon design in tarot so it does have to have two dogs and a crustacean for me to be happy.

The Sun - Kim Kitsuragi. Haloed by the sun. A new dawn. A new lease on life. This is what he represents to Harry.

Judgement - the Tribunal/Krenel. A tribunal is a court event, a judgement of sorts, and the event is a moment of dire consequence in the game. The mercenaries lining up like the angels on judgement day would also make a cool visual.

The World - Elysium. Self explanatory, I think? The image would be the world broken apart, with the isolas emerging from the pale.

For the minor arcana I’ve not got a lot of opinions - Lillienne the Netpicker as Queen of Swords for no deeper reason than the fact that she has a sword, Annette as Page of Coins/Pentacles because she’s a bright and precocious child… The cups would have a lung design on them, maybe? I really hope someone else has Thoughts about this because I would like to visualise the entire thing in my mind until I inevitably try to draw it and ruin my enthusiasm when I remember that my art skills do not match my ambition in this area 😂

Let's do this thing. I'm even feeling so nice that I'll do both versions of Wolfwood (from 98/Maximum and Stampede).

Nicholas D. Wolfwood x (Male) Reader: Relationship Drabbles

Content Warnings: None, unless you count tooth-rotting fluff. I put it below a cut since it might get a little long. Written with a male/male-adjacent/transmasculine reader in mind, so there's references to the reader being a guy/getting called "boyfriend" and such.

98/Maximum Wolfwood

Two words: Hopeless romantic. Two more words: Very bisexual. Wolfwood can get around and he knows this. Dating a guy is in his ballpark and he feels (foolishly) confident about this.

He's your typical swooning boyfriend. You can find him hovering over you when you're invested in a task, whatever that may be--reading a book, tooling with a gun, even just stargazing. Every moment is a wow, my boyfriend is hot moment. (You could say the same about him, though, I mean, look at him...)

He's a showoff. He can't help it. In a gunfight? He spins his cross a couple extra times. Drinking? Two more shots, let me show you how it's done. Training or working out? What do you mean I can't exercise in the buff? It's totally fine! (What a peach.)

Wolfwood is the kind of guy who would do anything to embarrass you in public. Whether it's a whisper of something naughty in your ear, or a hand traveling lower than your back, he's trying to get you to blush, or get some kind of reaction out of you (even if that reaction is to knock him on the nose.) Bonus if you get back at him with your own whispering or a love tap.

Though he's generally good with PDA, he might keep it slightly more "casual" in public. But behind closed doors? Oh, he's a worshipper, that's for sure. There is no part of you that isn't adored.

We all know Wolfwood is the "darlin'" type of guy (comes with the territory of being a cowboy, not my rules) but I think he'd also find plenty of other cute and embarrassing nicknames to call you by. Sweetheart, lover, etc. It's all on the table.

If you call him one back he'll start planning the wedding.

Stampede Wolfwood

Compared to his 98/Maximum counterpart, Stampede Wolfwood is a lot more... subdued in his desires and wonders. Dating a guy isn't in his ballpark--nor is dating anyone, really. He's been busy. (And apprehensive because he has no idea what he's doing, but don't tell him that you know that.)

But if you're able to coax him into a relationship, he's going to also try to show off. He's going to make every attempt he can to appear "manly" for your sake. He fails pretty miserably at this. It's not his fault--he just thinks there's a certain way he has to act for a relationship.

If you can teach him how to take the back seat in the relationship, he'll mellow out a bit. He's just desperate to not be seen as weak. (You're so far from weak, Wolfie! Keep your chin up!)

He's less showy with PDA, but he's willing to hold hands every so often. He also shows his love via acts of service--getting you meals, making sure you arrive places safely, patching you up, things of that nature. That's the one thing he feels he's good at.

He tries to keep the relationship very serious. But he is so, so bad at it. His efforts to do everything the "right way" are very endearing, from offering you his coat to opening the door for you...

He won't say this, but he's just thankful you still love him even after all of his fumbles.

He's not one for petnames or nicknames, but if you start to call him one, he'll blush very profusely and try to hide it. (He actually really, really likes it. Please keep calling him by a nickname, it makes him feel special.)

Ok so this is me sorta headcanoning, so take this with a grain of salt, but one of the reasons why the infantilization of Rogue always bothers me is because I always felt like her powers were a metaphor for disability/chronic illness and fandom police act already like disabled women aren't capable of being in their own villain romances, example being Entrapdak antis denying Entrapta her own agency in her romance with Hordak in the She-Ra reboot.

Oh! But you make a really good point! It’s one of those subtle perspectives that can be dangerous just because of how easy they are to integrate into someone's view of the world. I'm not as vocal online as I used to be. I feel like there are people out there far better equipped to talk about it than I, while I grow old and cranky. But, you brought up a really important aspect that kinda sent me into a 'hold my beer' moment so apologies for the long answer! To start with, I wouldn’t call this a headcanon, not at all, clearly not in the context of X-men, and Rogue in particular. It’s a very apt analogy. The reason why these characters become relevant to us is because we recognize something from our personal journey in them, and the comparison you made for Rogue is a very strong one. Her inability to touch can absolutely be read as a disability! In so many of her stories/arcs it is often portrayed as a struggle, as an obstacle to a ‘normal life’. Her difficulties with gaining control over her powers and dealing with other personalities that are trying to take over her mind can also be a strong metaphor for mental health struggles/disorders. Rogue is a fantastic hero in that regard and seeing her be her own person, learning how to work and be proud of what she can do, can feel like a personal victory for so many people. It’s why it’s important to see her happy, to see her winning her battles and use who she is and what she can do in a positive and impactful way. There are many reasons why fans end up taking away her agency or attributing her choices to a different (often male) character. And, to be fair, a couple of comic-book writers have done this exact thing to her, so I can see where this skewed perspective might be coming from. Within fandom this happens mostly because it serves to support their arguments for whatever thing they prefer or project onto the character. If they don’t like a certain narrative or can’t accept that it might’ve be written for someone else, they have this to fall back on and point to. Or, sadly, one of the simplest reasons for doing this is the age-old turning their ship preferences into ‘I’m right, you are wrong’ arguments. But these things can hide some internalized misconceptions. Unfortunately I haven’t seen the reboot of She-Ra (shame on me) so I don’t have the full picture for the take on Entrapta, but now I have one more reason to invest some time in it. In this situation with Rogue, I believe that what you mentioned applies very well. The argument that I’ve seen going around a lot is that Rogue was manipulated/swayed by being presented with the opportunity to ‘be normal’. Because she wanted to be able to touch and as a result she was taken advantage of because of her ‘disability’. Which is entirely false. In no version of the relationship between Rogue and Magneto in the comics, and not even in the reinvented take in the animation, has he ever abused that. Her attraction to him has always, always, come first, and the ability to touch, second. He was never the first one to act upon it. Even in the animation, every shot in the flashback was carefully considered to portray that - she is shown as the initiator every time (my favourite scene is when she’s trying her very best to pose in a suggestive way and he just paints her as he sees her, lively and sincere). But some fans don’t want to see that. They don’t want to acknowledge the authenticity of her decisions because it doesn’t serve the narrative they want of her/for her.

I read your message and it hit like a hammer how much deeper this problem can actually go, because it’s masked by those surface-level justifications. Removing agency and responsibility from someone just because they operate differently than one’s expectations is damaging in and of itself, and within a fandom it perpetuates an idea that can stifle people’s perspective and critical thinking. (This whole topic actually reminded me of Madison Tevlin's “Assume that I can” commercial. I think it's relevant to the conversation) Thanks a lot for sharing this!!! We need to talk more about these things and if I misspoke on something or missed something important would love to hear it. 💜
