So yeah, been waiting for news about this. If a deal isn’t made in the next few weeks, the writers are going to go on strike. Sometime after May 1st its looking like, unless negotiations are going good and they push the deadline back even longer.
However, if a strike does happen, what this means is that tv shows and movies that are in pre-production will be halted. No filming will begin for them at all until the strike is over.
For tv shows and movies that have already begun filming, or are about to start, they will still probably start filming or continue filming, if all the scripts for the tv show in question are done being written for the season.
WRT tv shows, if all the scripts for the season aren’t done being written yet though, they’ll just film what they have and then production will stop.
For shows that do have all their scripts done and written for the season, this just means that during production there won’t be any rewriting going on. They have to film using the scripts that are already written. Which can be a tricky thing (many movies in particular will have rewrites going on during even the middle of a scene being filmed for example).
The last writers strike f-ed up a lot of shows last time. (The most infamous show it affected was Heroes.)
And since, when it comes to tv shows, I mostly focus on Interview with the Vampire right now, then, if I had to guess just going off of Season 1, I’d say they probably have all the scripts written and done for season 2. Or, if not, they will be busy finishing them all up right now before whatever final strike deadline might be set. Because Rolin Jones and the other writers wont be able to do anymore rewrites they might want to do if any strike does actually happen.
So yeah. Production and filming for Season 2 for IWTV won’t stop IMO, thank goodness. But they are for sure tightening up any loose things they feel are in any of the scripts at the moment, I’d bet.

Things I miss about old tv shows:
1. Set Designs
One thing I miss most is actual tangible set designs. There used to be a handful of sets that would get used time and time again, and the characters actually interacted with them. Sets now look so damn clinical and clean, characters barely interact with them (mostly because half of all sets are almost entirely CGI) and they barely change over the course of a season or episode. Reflect your characters’ mental states by their rooms. Make them messy, dirty, have characters comment on the state of certain sets. Come on make them UNIQUE. And not in the way of just the objects either, make them unkempt or overflowed and mix up the lighting a bit.
2. Actual Episodic Structure
Most TV shows I’ve watched that came out in the last few years have had a continuous plot. Which is great. It makes me invested in the story, makes me excited for the next episode. But unless done correctly, it can feel like nothing was actually achieved in those episodes. Often it comes that a character spends the entire episode trying to do something, only for their plan to unravel right at the end of the episode and the next episode to be set up. It makes me feel like nothing was actually completed. Every episode is designed to set up for the next one and in some cases this works, but in others it doesn’t. An episodic structure is where each episode has its own individual storyline that may or may not add to the overall plot. Avatar: The Last Airbender used this structure, as did the Star Trek series (excluding season 2~ of Discovery) and BBC Merlin. A structure like this adds considerably more to character development and subsequent relationships between characters before moving on to more plot-driven antics, which in turn raises the stakes.
3. Fantasy Lighting
This, I believe, is self-describing. TV shows are too dark. I can’t see. Even if you want to establish how dark a setting is, there is still usually a source of light that a character is holding. It’s enough to make us actually see what’s going on, so let us. Please. And, anyway, it’s fiction. Doesn’t have to always be 100% realistic.
4. Filler Episodes
This comes in tandem with episode numbers. I do understand that in production the creators don’t have much time to film and edit before release. But. Where did the 20 episode seasons go? A lot of series are being released half-and-half, but even if it’s weekly, most people I know would be fine with it as long as each episode is produced to the best of the ability of the creators. I also miss fillers. Give me those character shenanigans. No plot, just pure antics. Those episodes keep me alive.
4. CGI Consistency
I will always maintain the opinion that good CGI relies on how consistent its quality is throughout a film, season or episode. Personally, I don’t care how good the CGI is so long as it remains relatively the same level throughout what I’m watching. I see this a lot in recent tv shows *cough* marvel *cough* where one scene will have the most spectacular CGI ever seen and another looks more like a low-budget animated kids show. It breaks immersion. I’m not into it. Just give me bad CGI all the way through. Or, on contrast, no CGI whatsoever. Construct scenes using actual corporeal sets and makeup. I miss funky little puppets.
(Note: this is opinion based. Feel free to agree or disagree, add or remove. I won’t contend)

I've posted a bit on her about how I've been watching Shameless, and I'm closer to the end of the show at this point, and one thing I find interesting is how as the show goes along the child characters have bigger and bigger roles in the show.
I know that it is because of child labor laws and stuff; although as a side note, it is interesting to see how similar stuff crops up throughout the show. Like how most of the background actors don't speak (you have to pay actors more if they have speaking lines). So this kind of comes across as most of the background people in this show just being mute apparently.
There are quite a lot of scenes throughout the show with crowds or a lot of background people, and it gets really noticeable in scenes where main characters (usually Frank) interact with said characters. Usually, characters will just have a weird one-sided conversation where the other person just gestures or makes overdramatic facial expressions as a response. Sometimes it is played for laughs, or the silent character will be a child, or someone rude.
It is really noticeable when you see it during "Frank" scenes, where he is doing something obnoxious to or in front of a group of people and only one extra will say anything or a main character shows up. I think the most noticeable/funny variations are when he goes up to a bunch of individual people in a bar or crowd and rants at them.
There is the classic response of [buff guy at a bar simply stands up and grunts to intimidate protagonist] but it gets really weird when Frank starts ranting about something really offensive or weird and gets up in their face. Like they barely ever have a response. For the record, I find it extremely entertaining. I fucking love that shit cause it's funny and fuck it I'm going to say its nonverbal (as in getting stressed out and not responding to a situation cause that is too much effort) or mute representation.
Also, if you didn't already notice that, you are about to start notice it whenever you watch television now. The lower budget the television show is, and the less main characters there are, the more you will notice it. It's not super common in Shameless anyways, I just wanted to bring it up cause I find it funny. I learned about this in a YouTube video essay about the sitcom Lab Rats because I am the kind of person who watches 3 hour long video essays about shows they watched as a child to think about them from a new perspective for the fun of it. What can I say? I enjoy them.
Ok anyways this post was about child labor laws. So the main cast of Shameless is very large and in the earlier seasons, some of this cast is made up of children (younger siblings of the protagonist) but as the show goes along, the focus shifts to the younger siblings and they slowly get more and more screentime. Both because the story slowly changes in structure over time, and also because the some of the younger siblings, the youngest of which was a child in diapers, could only appear in entire episodes for a single scene or even just a few scenes or shots.
Then as the show went along they would have more of a role. Anyway, the point is that they would not have been able to predict which of any of the kids would end up actually being good at acting as the show went along. Carl, a young boy at the start, is one of the weaker actors in my opinion. He's not awful, but he's really kind of monotone most of the time and usually just looks like he's confused. It's really noticeable considering how most of the cast is very overdramatic and he looks like he doesn't know what is going on (although to be fair, he is implied to be autistic, and I also don't know how to react to things most of the time as well, so same) so it mostly works for him.
But the character Liam, the youngest brother is the worst actor on the whole show. He has the exact same line delivery in every single scene and it gets really distracting. He wasn’t acting when the show started, and it resulted in that and by season 10 his scenes are grating. It doesn’t matter what scene he is in, he has the same neutral emotion and flat line delivery.
I’m not upset about this or like mad at the actor, but I just find it funny. Honestly, any show that manages to have that one baby be a good child actor in the later seasons is fucking lucky as hell. It’s interesting how this is a specific career (acting) where you can be randomly selected as being publicly platformed if you happen to both be a cute baby and a good actor. Or as a really shit actor if it turns out that you’re bad at acting. Which is one of many reasons why platforming children as tv stars can be really bad. but that’s a whole other discussion.

We talk about the 13yo AO3 writers whose second language is English, but we do NOT talk about the 14yo TikTok editors who only have time to post between their fifteen extracurricular activities enough okay? I cannot wait to see all these kids make it to the other side of the fan-to-creator pipeline because 👏🏼 they 👏🏼 should 👏🏼 be 👏🏼 making 👏🏼 professional 👏🏼 videos 👏🏼 like they’re posting the most profound, heart-wrenching, gut-punching, blood-pumping, tear-jerking video edits four times a day like it’s nothing. If they don’t grow up to become professional video editors for feature films and trailers and music videos then what is even the point? They’ve set the bar too high now, if they are the next generation of video production then we are in good hands rest assured

The fact that there used to be a reality show where people competed to be mentored in business by professional conman and 4-times bankruptcy declarer Donald Trump, and it ran for 17 fucking seasons and only got canceled because he became fucking President of the United States.
We're living in the parody timeline.

S1 and s2 (but especially s1) feel so intimate and grounded and personal. I am watching these character’s lives.
But s3 and s4 (ESPECIALLY s3) feels fake and removed. I’m watching a tv show.

55 years ago today, January 4, 1969, the final new episode of Wacky Races aired. It is an American animated television series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions for Saturday mornings. The series features 11 different cars racing against each other in various road rallies throughout North America, with all of the drivers hoping to win the title of the "World's Wackiest Racer". The show was inspired by the 1965 comedy film The Great Race.
The cartoon had many regular characters, with 23 people and animals spread among the 11 race cars. Wacky Races ran Saturday mornings on CBS from September 14, 1968, to January 4, 1969, and in syndication from 1976 to 1982. Seventeen 20-minute episodes were produced, with each of them featuring two 10-minute segments.
The series spawned numerous spin-offs throughout the years featuring Dick Dastardly, the most similar in theme being "Fender Bender 500" in 1990.
In 2017, the series was remade as a reboot, airing on Boomerang. It aired only once on Cartoon Network on August 13, 2018.

Not sure if I am the only one who noticed this, but in the leaked picture we got of a new world from Episode 2 (or a different episode) in the Amazing Digital Circus. We can actually see a wagon carrying what looks like Pomni, Kinger, and I think I see Zooble and Jax. I don’t see Gangle or Ragatha, but maybe their hard to see in the wagon or their not there at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I kind of have a theory. What if either Gangle or Ragatha or maybe both get captured by one of the new characters we saw in the new teaser and the little adventure/mission they were given by Caine was to stop a certain character and save them. But we also saw other teasers in different worlds, so maybe Caine sends them all off on different adventures that. Like Jax (or maybe he has a partner to help him with the adventure) has to get different orders correct at a fast food restaurant to get enough scores so that he could complete his adventure. Since I see Pomni and Kinger in this picture, Pomni and Kinger were probably paired together to stop a certain character (probably one of those new characters we saw in the new teaser) and save one of their friends or maybe that Candy Princess we saw.
That’s all I have…. Bye…
