Project 2025 is a plan to, in the words of project Director Paul Dans, "...march into office and bring a new army of aligned, trained, and essentially weaponized conservatives ready to do battle against the Deep State".It is organized by the Heritage Foundation, to "muzzle woke propaganda at every level of government", "gut the administrative state" (HUD, FEMA, DOJ, DHS, the Federal Reserve, CDC, FDA, EPA, etc.) and concentrate power into the hands of the President (Leeja Miller, in a video that is linked below, goes into detail on how this would work).Their claim is that "Only through the implementation of specific action plans at each agency will the next conservative presidential Administration be successful".The plan includes a [180 Day Playbook](https://www.project2025.org/playbook/), described as "...a comprehensive, concrete transition plan for each federal agency."
The plan is "the conservative movement's unified effort to be ready for the next conservative administration to govern at 12:00 noon, January 20, 2025".Project 2025 promises to "rescue the country from the grip of the radical Left" and to "unite the conservative movement and the American people against elite rule and woke culture warriors".Project 2025 lists problems with America such as:* The breakdown of the family* Immigration* The "totalitarian cult known today as The Great Awokening"* The erosion of constitutional accountability in Washington* Children suffering the "toxic normalization of transgenderism with drag queens and pornography invading their school libraries"* An "overseas, totalitarian Communist dictatorship" that is "not a strategic partner or fair competitor" and is "engaged in a strategic, cultural and economic Cold War against America's interests, values and people"* "Low-income communities" that are "drowning in addiction and government dependence"* "America's elites have betrayed the American People"* The left using climate change "to scare the American public into accepting their ineffective, liberty crushing regulations"They believe that "These are problems not of technocratic efficiency, but of national sovereignty and constitutional governance. We solve them not by trimming and reshaping the leaves, but by ripping out the trees -- root and branch."
Their broad goals are to:1. Restore the family as the centerpiece of American life, and protect our children2. Dismantle the administrative state and return self-governance to the American people3. Defend our nation's sovereignty, borders and bounty against global threats4. Secure our God-given individual rights to live freely - what our constitution calls "the Blessings of Liberty"Dans states that "The long march of Cultural Marxism through our institutions has come to pass. The federal government is a behemoth, weaponized against American citizens and conservative values, with freedom and liberty under siege as never before".Project 2025 is, in my words, a distinctly terrifying and highly detailed roadmap for:* Installing a Chriso-fascist oligarchy* Rolling back civil and human rights* Removing bodily autonomy from women and transgender individuals* The systematic eradication of minorities and other vulnerable groupsI don't use the words "systematic eradication" lightly or with hyperbole.
They obviously don't come right out and say it, but they state that:* Pornography should be outlawed* The people who produce and distribute it should be imprisoned* Educators and public librarians who purvey it should be classed as registered sex offenders* Telecommunications and technology firms that facilitate its spread should be shutteredThe real problem with the above, apart from the obvious, is that they label the existence of LGBTQIA+ people as "inherently pornographic". They say that pornography is “manifested today through the omnipresent propagation of transgender ideology".They say that the fix "starts with deleting the terms sexual orientation and gender identity ('SOGI'), diversity, equity and inclusion ('DEI'), gender, gender equality, gender awareness, gender sensitive, abortion, reproductive health, reproductive rights, and any other term to deprive Americans of their First Amendment rights out of every federal rule, agency regulation, contract, grant, regulation, and piece of legislation that exists".They also state that "The president should direct agencies to rescind regulations interpreting sex discrimination provisions as prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, transgender status, sex characteristics, etc."
They want to "maintain a biblically based, social science-reinforced definition of marriage and family" which would remove protections for same-sex marriage.Leeja Miller helpfully points out that the above language does not simply include transgender individuals, it includes cis women as well. I'd argue that removing the DEI language also allows them to target anyone that isn't a white, cis, heterosexual, evangelical (or other approved flavor of Christianity) male. Some other points of note:* They want to eliminate the Department of Education* They want to ban the teaching of Critical Race Theory* They want to bring back the practice of impounding funds

Bodycam footage was released this week. It was from January 24th. It was the morning after a police officer hit a woman who walking across the crosswalk. He was going 74 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone.
The 23 year old woman who was hit, Jaahnavi Kandula, was killed. In the footage, you can see the VP of the police union on a call with the president of the police union.
In the call, they go into graphic detail about her death. At one point in the video you can hear the VP laughing, saying, "Yeah, just write a check. $11,000. She was 26 anyway, she had limited value."

Unanimous Supreme Court gives transgender woman from Guatemala new chance to fight deportation | AP News
The Supreme Court ruled Thursday in favor of a transgender Guatemalan woman who is fighting deportation on the grounds that she would face persecution if returned to her native country.
The court’s unanimous decision in favor of Estrella Santos-Zacaria gives her another chance to argue that immigration officials were wrong to reject her bid to remain in the United States.
Lawyers for Santos-Zacaria, now in her mid-30s, said she first fled to the United States after being raped as a young teenager and threatened with death because of her gender identity in a country that has targeted the LGBTQ community.
But a U.S. immigration judge found that she did not make a strong enough case that she would face persecution if sent back to Guatemala.
The issue at the Supreme Court was more technical, whether federal immigration law was flexible enough to allow her another day in court. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled against her on that point, but other appellate courts had ruled in favor of immigrants on the same issue.
The Supreme Court ruled in an opinion by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson that the 5th Circuit was wro

So, queer POC.
A lot of left wing people are uncomfortable acknowledging many queer POC face marginalization from their own communities.
This is especially true if you're from an immigrant family.
"But Bee," you say, "your grandmother and mom are very open minded towards the gays and they grew up in uber homophobic India. They managed to unlearn their homophobia. You have coworkers who've been in Canada for less than a year and they include their pronouns on their LinkedIn profiles. The Chennai Rainbow Parade is a thing. There are Indian universities with LGBT support clubs. So just because they grew up in a homophobic environment doesn't mean they'll be that way for the rest of their lives."
Yes, that is true, especially among urban university educated Gen Z Indians. But there are still many who for whatever reason, don't unlearn those views.
And their potentially queer children, who already struggle to see eye to eye with their parents because of how wildly different the environments in which the generations grew up in are, struggle even more because of it.
Many white North American middle and upper class LGBT people, who are able to come out and are privileged compared to many of their fellow gays because of this, are left wing and are quite uncomfortable acknowledging this reality out of fear of being racist. We can recognize this reality and also not be racist or xenophobic. What matters is doing so with respect and nuance.
As a result, many queer POC are not able to get support from their own POC communities and from their fellow LGBT people, leading to a whole new level of alienation. Jasvir Singh is one openly gay Sikh man, and he has discussed how many LGBT Sikhs are excluded from their communities when they come out.
See: Bruce MacArthur was able to kill gay male POC, primarily men from South Asia and the Middle East, because his victims concealed their homosexuality from their families because they knew their families were homophobic. TW for murder, torture, and dismemberment.
I am aware there's many other factors at play with respect to Bruce MacArthur, but given some of my own experiences growing up as a first generation Canadian from India, I do think this particular fact of life I'm talking about did play somewhat of a role in why MacArthur evaded justice for so long.
So I do want to acknowledge queer POC who aren't able to come out due to homophobia within their fellow POC communities and because many usually white North American middle and upper class LGBT people, aka the ones who are safest coming out because they're able to get support easily and don't have to fear marginalization, refuse to acknowledge their privilege and support their fellow LGBT people who are less privileged and less safe in coming out.
In short, white, economically privileged LGBT people with supportive communities need to do more to support their fellow LGBT people. Especially POC ones and queer first generation immigrants.

Yet more disgusting rhetoric to come from the UK Home Secretary today
Some are seeing this speech to the Washington DC neocon think tank American Enterprise as her pitch in advance of yet another Tory leadership contest, a pitch very much aimed towards the ascendant far-right wing of the party.
Among the liquid sewage she's planning to spout:
"...There are vast swathes of the world where it is extremely difficult to be gay, or to be a woman. Where individuals are being persecuted, it is right that we offer sanctuary.
"But we will not be able to sustain an asylum system if in effect simply being gay, or a woman, and fearful of discrimination in your country of origin is sufficient to qualify for protection."
There's ample evidence that claims for asylum based on sexual orientation or gender identity have been routinely dismissed in the past (see Immigration to the UK for LGBT+ People - The Diversity Trust for more information). But other Tories including Home Office minister Chris Philp are out today defending Braverman, saying 'Some people claim to be gay when they're not' - the underlying attitude that has already made it nigh impossible for many LGBT+ people to claim asylum, by putting an inappropriately heavy burden of proof on them to claim they are who they are.
Meanwhile, the official line of the Labour Party - supposedly, the main party of opposition - isn't to challenge Braverman's stance, but instead to go after them for not sending enough people back. 'We’ve seen convictions for people smugglers go down considerably under the Conservatives, we’ve seen the rate of returns of people whose applications have failed also going down precipitously by 70%,' said Annaliese Dodds, Labour Party Chair.
This country is a hellhole.

Okay for any readers in Japan, South Korea, Israel, the UK, or any other country outside the US who don’t know who Ron DeSantis is, this guy passed anti-immigrant laws, anti-LGBTQIA+ laws, and other agregious laws go against human rights in Florida. Even if you don’t care about what’s going in US politics, this guy is planning to run for President and he’s not gonna care if anything bad happens to you overseas. You think Trump is bad? Ron DeSantis is worse.

Thinking of making a new blog designated to public resources like mutual aids and community groups and projects for North County San Diego because I feel like not a whole lot of people have knowledge of widespread resources in one place (especially young adults). I tend to have a finger on the pulse of what goes on here, and with it being created with submissions and such in mind I think together we have the potential to create a great wealth of knowledge.

i wish i could've said: intro | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6
-
we would sing the same songs together - you in tamil, me in hindi. you had no formal training, but your voice was stunning - I once jokingly compared it to the great ‘nightingale of india’ herself. do you remember?
probably not. it was a long time ago. but I remember.
you were a new friend for me - someone I could openly speak to about my culture & the movies I’d grown up with, unabashed and unashamed of my heritage. I’ll always be indebted to you for that; for showing me that my birthright was more beautiful than this colonized land led me to believe; that the colour of my ancestry had allies and a place to belong in this foreign land.
(another thing: you and your best friend were my first real-world introduction to a community I once thought would never be on my radar. funny how life works out, huh? Another thing that I will always be grateful to you two for.)
