Again, this author touches a very not talked about topic in such an honest way! Codependency, whether mutual or one sided, is healthy only in moderation. Jo leaving Logan hurt me so bad, but I couldn't help but cheer for her healthy decision!

Also, I am falling more and more in love with Bill with every book I read! 🤣

law delivers it like such a throwaway line but robin asking “torao-kun, your friends must be here, right?” and then law just casually as anything saying ‘yes’ and that he doesn’t have a way to contact them because, “I didn’t even expect to see them again.”

that’s right bc he never planned on anything actually working, when the plan to pit Kaido against Doffy failed, he never thought they would win, never thought he’d ever see his crew again…. GOOD. BYE ¡

miscellaneous things i appreciate about wendell & wild:

-the nuance built into kat’s punkness. yes, she absolutely is a contrarian rebellious teenager, but it’s also genuinely how she’s always been. it’s not portrayed as rebellion for rebellion’s sake, it’s kat’s way of reasserting her identity and her connection to her parents when she’s spent years having her choices stripped from her.

-how many of the characters like kat. raúl sees a kindred spirit. siobhan wants to be her friend and is being kind in the way she knows how. sister helley reaches out to her even before she becomes a hell maiden. wendell & wild are in awe of her. ms. hunter doesn’t let her position prevent her from treating kat like an individual with agency and importance. it’s heartening that kat, a character defined by guilt both personal and state-issued, is coming into a setting where people genuinely want to see her thrive.

-the future sequence where it’s revealed she stays in rust bank and helps restore it to its former glory made me cry. it’s what they all deserve.

-no one has any “it’s my style” excuses for whitewashing when w&w gave us a litany of black characters with individually distinct features.

-even the demons have more emotional intelligence than your average corporate CEO.

-“you don’t get to smack me”

-when all that’s left of the memory monster is the memory of losing her parents, kat hugs it, letting it dissolve into her. she’s acknowledging that the choices she’s made and the things that’ve happened to her have gotten her to this point, but she’s absolving herself of the guilt — embracing her past instead of hating herself for it.

-raúl’s struggles as a trans boy aren’t framed as oppression porn. siobhan’s accidental deadnaming is just that — an accident— and undoubtedly one she’ll learn from in the future. his mother supports him without reservation. kat doesn’t even make note of it. they could’ve easily added catty smiles, tired sighs and “wait, you’re trans?” moments, but they didn’t. raúl is a human being whose transness informs his life without being crushed by it.

-siobhan’s arc is wonderful. she doesn’t become kat and raúl’s personal savior, she doesn’t angst over what she has to do, the story never becomes about her — but she uses her position (read: her class privilege) to do what she can. she becomes part of the solution.

-i know the last two points read like “duh, everyone should be doing that” but it’s such a relief to have a film get these things right, unapologetically so and without a core of virtue signaling. it’s nice to not have the stories we want told held for ransom, then declawed by producers because pissing off uninspired rich people would be bad for business.

Weekend Warrior 2022: Day One (10/21/22) I arrived to the Ranger encampment around two in the afternoon and checked in, and promptly began unloading supplies and erecting my tent at it’s designated location. The ground here was hard packed of iron oxized, orange-tinted earth and clay, which presented some resistance as I pounded the wooden stakes of my tent into the ground. Once fully geared up, and armor donned along with my quiver and longbow, I approached where archery drills were being conducted for those interested in joining the archers of the Ranger forces.

As the hustling forces of the Ranger Skirmishers, a group broken into Red Wolves and Grey Wolves, trained on the slopes beyond the archery range, we were taught basic tactics. These included holding multiple arrows in the hand holding the bow for faster initial re-knocking, conversing with your squadmates about firing at the same time at the same target, speed shooting, and firing arrows on the move as dictated by the squad’s commander. For these training steps, I did so alongside a fellow new Ranger who introduced himself as Alde.

Wrapping up the training, we all assembled into three lines of thirty-some rangers and marched up the hill to the Mead Hall with a chant of “For the People!” Upon arriving, we positioned ourselves along the building’s side where other forces had rallied as well, where we received a welcoming speech by Zan Campbell and the official start of Weekend Warrior 6. Safety protocol was gone over, and upon its completion we formed lines to have bows tested for poundage by Kat, the leader of the archers among the Rangers, and other weapons inspected for safety concerns by Rolo of the Hearth Guard.

With everything checking out fine, we marched back to the encampment until it was time for dinner. Very soon after arriving however, a messenger from the Kingsmen camp entered requesting to speak with our leader, Commander Brandis. Brandis then led us all into the adjacent Kingsmen camp where Bryce had arrived. Bryce was a surviving bastard child of the old king of Olaran, and the Kingsmen had decided to place him upon the throne. Brandis oversaw numerous documents about the proposal, and agreed to the terms, as Bryce supported the cause of the Rangers as well and no complaints were had. We kneeled to our new king, and were informed that tomorrow night would be his official coronation.

Shortly after the event, the Rangers and Kingsmen travelled back to the Mead Hall, where dinner had been prepared with the two forces dining inside, while the Hearth Guard and Sea Lords dined in tents outdoors. It was here in the Mead Hall as I attained and ate my food, some chicken I cut into with my medieval cutlery, a number of relevant things that had already occurred despite this first night being meant to be a night of peace. Shortly after our departure to dinner, the Hearth Guard had already stolen the Banner from the Rangers, as well as the one from the Sea Lords. These Banners existed as items of interest to capture, with each faction having one, and once captured could either be cashed into the barkeep in the Mead Hall, or held to be ransomed. Also during this time, I overheard discussion that the Sea Lords had murdered an innocent Hearth Guard member at their camp, that a Sea Lord had been assassinated in the Mead Hall, and that since dinner began; a Ranger had been taken captive in the Sea Lord camp and had already been freed. Going forward, none would go to the Mead Hall without weapons again.

Finishing up there, myself and Alde were approached near the exit by a pair of Hearth Guard berserkers, who alluded to us that a beast existed in the nearby Thornwood should we be interested in acquiring pelts. It sounded suspicious, but I informed others back at the Ranger camp of the rumor and found that others had been approached with the same claim. Fully expecting it to be a trap, myself and twelve other rangers made our way with torches and lanterns down the road and into the Thornwood. Up front we led the way, my lantern outstretched from my left hand, navigating the undergrowth of poison ivy and thorns along trails that had not been recently cut or cleared. Finding nothing in the woods, we exited the treeline. There however, we were ambushed by Hearth Guard warriors, ten in number. Pulling my sword, I found alongside the treeline, dealing with only the warrior directly in front of me. An impact against my chest knocked me to the ground, killing me.  

Arriving back to the Ranger encampment, a number of Hearth Guard assembled just outside and were driven away. I then made my way back to the Mead Hall where I approached the bar and filled my cup with the Rangers mead; a special brewed mead for us of hibiscus and juniper. While there, I met four female rangers who had undertaken a quest that saw them heading for the Thornwood to collect a number of ingredients for a potion for Ranger faction member “Birdie.” I traveled along with my lantern, skirting the edges of the Thornwood looking for elm leaves, goldenrod, a unique root of our choosing, and a piece of fir. However once we returned and found Birdie, we discovered others had beat us to the punch and already fulfilled the request. The Mead Hall however was hopping with music, as Ranger Matthias played his fiddle, while Finn and Birdie led the crowd in song, performing “Wild Mountain Thyme” and “Rattlin’ Bog,” which I sang along to with Alde.

Stepping out for fresh, now cold, mountain air, I approached the gladiator pit after having downed a second cup of mead, willing to give it a go. After the current combatants finished, I stepped into the ring against a Hearth Guard warrior with a spear for “best two out of three.” In quick time I’d been stabbed in the right arm, and again afterwards painfully in the throat. I then decided to head back down the hill to the Ranger camp where a warm fire would provide relief from the dropping temperature. There for an hour or two I conversed with other rangers, listening as Lieutenant Hama played his guitar while I consumed some of the green apple brandy I’d packed for the weekend. Eventually, feeling frozen even by the fire, I retreated to bed to bundle up for warmth. However, the temperature had dropped so low that the wool blanket, my ranger clothes, a fur blanket, and coyote pelt were unable to keep me warm enough to even fall asleep. I shivered and trembled for hours unable to ever fall asleep, and got out of bed five hours later at 7 am as the Skirmisher began to mobilize for morning training. I would later discover that the temp had dropped to 29 degrees that night.

Comments:

This is another one of my favorite authors. I love their writing style and so I will always recommend their work!

With that out of the way. Here is my take away from this book itself.

I really understand where the MC comes from in her situation. When I was younger, I had a young man stalk me. Everything the MC says about feeling exposed is how I felt. It took a very long time and a lot of therapy to get where I am today, and I love that this book did such a good job portraying this issue.

You had no idea who Jules was. According to BB, she was the girl who tried to commit suicide at Nate's party. According to Fezco, she was the new girl in town who looked like she walked straight out of Sailor Moon. Who ever she was and what ever she did or said to Rue, you were more thankful than she’d ever know.

It was a very occasional thing you and Rue having those sibling talks. It was never anything specific, but this time the main focus was Fezco. You dodged and denied all of your romantic implications and asked her about the girl she left Nate's party with. Instantly, she lit up just at the mention of her.

“Jules.” She said, rocking back and forth on her feet.

“Jules?” You repeated noticing Rue’s giddy tone when she said her name.

She didn't get into specifics because too quickly it became the two of you talking about Jules to you prying into Rue’s obvious crush.

“So you’re…”

You weren’t sure how to ask or if you even should. It was a sensitive thing, of course, but something you couldn't really tiptoe around for the rest of your lives.

“Yea.” She took a breath. “For two weeks now.” She sounded proud of herself, regardless of her solemn overall tone.

You kept your reaction limited, thinking it was the more appropriate reaction. You didn't jump for joy the way you wanted to, but instead you gave Rue a hug. One by how stiff she stood she wasn't expecting, but by how she eventually softened she liked.

Two weeks, fourteen days. It wasn't the sixty days Gia and Leslie thought it was, but it was a start, right ? And that had to mean something.

…

You were three months into being single for the first time in a year, and you were at that stage where seeing happy couples made you sick to your stomach. But still you were happy for Cassie and McKay.

“I wanna look cute, but not eager.” Cassie said, pulling two things from her closet.

“Then don't wear that top.” Maddy comments.

“This? I thought it looked good.” Cassie questioned. “I don't really know if I like this bodysuit, though.”

“Wait, why not, it's cute?” You asked.

The four of you continue to talk and looked through outfits, while Lexi did homework and Kat just sat on her phone. Holding a blue top over the pink one she was wearing, Cassie turned to you and Maddy on the bed.

“Love that.” Maddy said instantly.

“That's nice.” You added.

“Like, perf.” BB agrees, blowing a cloud of vape smoke.

She turns to Kat and her sister.

“Lex?”

She looks up for a second.

“Its cute.” Is all she says before returning to her homework.

Maddy sighs.

“I wish I had your collar bones.”

Slowly the door opens, Cassie and Lexi’s mom standing int the doorway with a glass of wine that seemed glued to her hand.

“I'm putting a lot of trust into you.” She says in a serious tone.

“Yeah, Cassie, don't get pregnant.” Kat jokes.

“That’s not funny, Kat.” she begins to walk in the room. “But don't you dare get pregnant.”

“Relax, mom. He has a roommate.” Cassie says matter-of-factly.

“I want you to keep your phone on throughout the night. Send me a photo when you get back to the dorm with a clock in it.”

You and Maddy look at each other with confused faces, thinking the same thing.

“Like a ransom photo?” Maddy questions.

“I hate you.”

“Well, I love you.”

“I love you, too.” Cassie says before pressing a kiss to Suze’s cheek.

She leaves the room, and Cassie continued to stress over outfits until McKay came to pick her up.

“Have fun, baby girl.”

You all stood outside watching Cassie run to the car.

“No funny business, Christopher!” Suze yelled and whispered something else to herself.

The upside to be single or the side that didn't make you sad was hearing about Maddy and Nate’s relationship issues. In all honesty, you wanted to tell her to just break up with, but that wouldn't be fair considering the fact that she listened to you complain about both of your ex’s with no complaints. You didn't really tell her what happened with you and your ex, all she knew was that he cheated on you and as revenge you ran back to Fezco. You loved Maddy, but still you could never bring yourself to share something that vulnerable, so the only person who knew was Fezco and Ash. “Do you think people are like 100 percent straight or like 100 percent gay ?” Maddy ask carefully.

“No bisexual people exist, asexual people, pansexual people exist sexuality is like a spectrum you can land anywhere.”

“Yeah. Totally.”

She takes a moment to think about your words, pretending as if she wasn't asking for a specific reason. But you could tell this was going somewhere.

“Do you think straight guys ever, like, watch gay porn ?”

“I-” You pause and swallow, knowing that you had to be careful with your next sentence. “Um, not if they are like 100 percent straight.”

“You said it was a spectrum.” She’s suddenly defensive.

“Okay, but the spectrum is straight on one side and gay on the other”

She sighs.

“I fucking hate this.”

“Is this about Nate?”

It was a natural instinct to ask if it was him whenever something was bothering her.

“No. He’s like super straight.”

“Is it your dad?”

“No. It's not about any guy that I know.”

There's a beat of silence.

“Okay look if I tell you something, you swear on your fucking life you won't say a word?”

Her sudden change of tone rushes you to grab your AirPods.

“Yeah.” You said connecting your phone to one of the AirPods.

“I saw some stuff on his phone.”

It's a very ominous response.

“Like… like I saw dicks on his phone.” She whispers.

Dicks plural as in more than one and by the way she was speaking they definitely were not his.

“Oh.” was all you could really say because what else do you say in this situation. “Um-”

An AU where Warriors joins last... because the chain has to find and rescue him.

After the War, but before the events of LU is kicked into motion, a group of people (can be traitors but I think it would more interesting if it was a group of citizens) take Warriors and uses him as ransom. They send his blood stained scarf as proof thst they actually have him.

Athena isn't convinced that the group is interested in sending him back safely, thinking that would just take the rupees and probably kill him once they have it since Warriors would undoubtedly be a witness.

Luckily for her though, a group of heroes have come looking for Warriors and she sends them to track down Warriors and get him back.

Cue the all the suspense and mystery. I'm not good with that kind of thing.

This idea is adoptable. If it speaks to you, it needs a good home. Just tag me if you decide to do something with it.

AU where Warriors received a medical discharge months after defeating Ganon because he never truly recovered from his injuries. He's unable to stay on his feet long enough to fight, let alone hold his sword. Although Artemis offers him a place to stay in the castle because of his service, he finds hard to stay and ultimately retires to a small village in the countryside with Proxi where nobody really knows who he is. He survives on military benefits and rarely interacts with the other villagers, but they do check on him from time to time.

Warriors isn't exactly happy in retirement but he's more or less accepted it.

Until eight other heroes come to the village Warriors retired to and ask around for a hero named Link, and Warriors can't fathom why anybody would come looking for a broken hero like him...

Another LU idea that I might not write because nothing is working out so far (because you know, my life).

At the end of Hyrule Warriors, Warriors just collapses. Could be all the collective injuries from taking down Ganon, combined with the exhaustion, and maybe a good ol' infected wound or two. Whatever the reason, he collapses in front of Mask and his condition isn't great.

And when it's time for all the time-displaced to go home, he still's unconscious.

Masks tries to fight against going home because he doesn't want to leave until he knows Warriors will be fine. He's forced back anyway. He leaves not knowing if Warriors even survived. He lives for years, wondering if Warriors is okay.

Come LU and Time gets to meet some of the other heroes, but Warriors isn't among them. He thinks to meet that mayb Warriors died after all and that's why he they haven't been reunited. However, he can't voice why he is so worried.

But Warriors just happens to be the last to join the chain. He pulled through just fine, trying to ignore the fact that a lot of his friends left and he never got to say goodbye.

My #1 post of 2022

As much as I like reading dissections of the fandom characterizations as they compare to canon, I think the more important thing is that people have fun and make the content they want so they keep improving their craft. People intentionally disregard canon all the time in any given fandom.

You don't have to drop system/DID Four just because Jojo isn't using it. If you like that headcanon, keeping using it as often as you would like. Canon isn't the end all be all, especially in fandoms. Just don't confuse canon and fanon and you should be fine.
