The “Readers also enjoyed” feature on Goodreads (which GR says was created 10 years ago to “use people’s reviews, ratings and other data to make great personalised recommendations”) is still so bad when it comes to non-anglo books, it’s kind of funny at this point. I don’t understand how it continues being so useless when there are lots of people logging and rating books in other languages on this platform every day? It’s not breathtakingly accurate for anglo books either but the “See similar books” link will suggest at least some books that are somewhat similar in some way, whereas for non-anglo books after all this time it’s still like “I see you enjoyed this short French nonfiction book about literary salons in 18th-century Paris—I’m sure you’ll love this modern epic novel written in Romanian about a man who cheats on his wife with a ghost, since you're into the Foreign Books genre.”

#i know it's an american platform and it's normal for english language features to work better but #i thought the algorithm would have to improve eventually with all the non-anglo data added every day and it just stubbornly doesn't #the other day based on a contemporary literary fiction book in french it suggested an old-timey scifi book in english and #the vocal score to an italian opera in italian.#if it works based on the books the users read or rate highly shouldn't it be the other way around and show you #books in random languages in relation to english books since there are more people reading in english + their native language #than in italian + some other non-english language for ex? i don't understand how it works

hey yesterday i got distracted until 5am into browsing lists of old animated movies on wikipedia and there's a bunch of stuff that i wanna get around to dig up & watch but i crave even more older, more obscure, more forgotten stuff

plz feel free to drop any obscure animated flick you know of so i can go check it ( extra bonus points if you're not american and it's a movie from your country )

#stuff i fell onto that i particularly wanna get around includes #Rock & Rule : scifi fantasy. lou reed sings the villain's songs. there's other big names in the soundtrack. absolutely bombed financially #Hugo the Hippo : i dont know much about it but seemed cute as hell #Shinbone Alley : top of the list this one i think ? arbitrarily . theres a super cool aging femme fatale cat in there #Dick Deadeye (or Duty Done) this oness complicated because it's so painfully british as in they threw racist asian designs in there ( ofc)#but the animation style is kinda charming...i need to watch it & hate it #Mr Bickford : claymation movie set to orchestral music written by frank zappa. this one seems . like a lot #its not gonna be an easy watch but i NEED to watch it #also not one that i found yesterday but i had a while back and i never managed to find ANY trace of #il giornalino di gian burrasca. 1992 italian film based on a then popular series of books about a rowdy kid...#i have no reason to want to find it other than i randomly stumbled upon it & the very few images i could find looked very charming #and the FACT that i can't even find any clips of it online is frustrating.#if somehow ur italian and u know where to find this hmu;#shevr

vintage notebook 🛰️

This is a beautiful italian notebook right from the late 60s - it belonged to my mum. The cover says “Future World” and shows a retro-futuristic landscape, while on the back there’s a little description of what the future (year 2000) could look like.

It costed L.250 - which stands for only 14 cents

Miraculous ladybug is definitely charming in its own way until I look at the straight tetragedron of these main character and want to pull my entire scalp out.
