Instructions: Boil the water. Next, slice the onions and cut the chilies. Heat a pan with ghee in it. Add the dals and saute until golden. Next, add mustard. Now, add onions, cashew nuts, curry leaves, and green chilies. Add boiling water. Keep stirring with salt. The upma is cooked when the moisture absorbs. Finally, mix the upma and garnish it with coriander leaves and grated coconut.
Cauliflower and Oats Tikki
Although, tikkas are made by mixing spiced mashed potatoes with an array of tangy ingredients. Shape the potatoes into a disc. Next, deep-fry the potatoes until they become crispy. This recipe sounds appetizing and the calorie count can catch you off guard.

Some tips that helped me lose weight while having an ed and preventing dizziness, fatigue hair loss, and brain fog.
For some reason eating after 2pm has reduced my cravings alot.
Chewing sugar free gum helps alot. Most of them contain sorbitol for the sweet taste and consuming sorbitol in a large amounts can lead to it acting as a laxative.
Coffee. To keep you full and again another laxative. But it can only be had hot for it to work.
Dry fruits. They contain little to no calories and prevent you from feeling dizzy.
Some junk foods are considered empty caloric foods because they do not provide any sort of good calories that your body can use, which can lead to your body storing them. So if you can find a low empty calorie food, you can sometimes eat them to keep yourself full. I should note this might not work for some people but it has worked for me.
What also has worked for me is make the same lunch to take to school, which is really low cal and because it is my comfort food and it helps me not think about food and since I spend 9 hours at school, not counting the 40 mins it takes me to and fro from school, I'm able to spend an ample amount of time not eating and that works wonders
and if my parents asks me to eat, I just say I shared my friends' lunch and I'm full.
I m like to distract myself from eating everytime I have a craving by chugging alot of water, which is first good for your health and keeps your belly full for longer.
I take multivitamins to keep up with all the necessary nutrient needs.
I also drink like 30gms of protein powder with water to help with my muscles, and also because protein helps in losing calories.
Fruits. Especially watermelons. They are so full of water, a cup of watermelons contains 46 kcal and can make you feel full really fast and they are packed with the good kinds of carbohydrates, vitamin A, C, and B6, full of potassium and absolutely no fats or sodium.
Cucumbers. Again, water based with almost little to no calories to them.
If you are having hair loss problems, biotin is a great supplement for hair and so is protein.
Try as much as you can to make sure you're not alone too long. Because when nobody is there around you, you're more prone to giving into your urges. So if you see that in you, try being around as much people as possible.
Coconut water is a great drink to help balance your electrolytes and keep your nutrients to the level.
Coconut oil and if you're Indian, ghee is great for your hair because it makes your hair more healthy and strong. It would be best if you kept your hair oiled overnight before washing and not just a few hours.
If it helps, because it has worked with me, even though I look fat, I tell everyone around me about how little I eat or how healthy I eat. And sometimes if I have to eat with other people, I will only have half of the food I ordered and ask if anyone can finish it because I'm not used to having so much food. Or I already had such a big breakfast that this seems too much. The little lies, that make you feel accountable into not eating so much even when you're alone.
I like to avoid sodas and energy drinks even if they're diet soda or not, because they honestly have way too many calories that your body can retain.
Masturbating. It's weird but five mins of it can lead to losing 400kcals and that's worth a bit of something.
Studying. It doesn't feel like it but you use alot more calories when you're concentrating on your work.
Sitting up straight. The will of keeping your shoulders straight and your spine straight, it takes up alot of calories because your body is not used to you doing that.
Doing chores around the house that require you to be on your feet.
Drink alot of water. But not too much.
Make a habit of waking up at a certain time in the morning and sleeping at a certain time. This makes way for a more disciplined mind, and more will power and honestly, not only do you not get so much fatigue or dizziness, it cultivates good sleeping habit. Which is not only good for the body, it also helps you stay focused in classes.
There is a certain set of yoga called the suryanamaskar which promotes good cardiovascular health and if you do 12 sets of it everyday, helps in losing calories. And they are so simple and easy for you to do if you don't feel like you have much energy.

restricting makes me binge and ive gone down that hole so many freaking times im tired of it. ive started a health journey, my body cant handle the binging and whats the point of being skinny if ur too ill to even show it off, so i’m being mindful of my triggers and eating low calorie filling foods.

As someone who is actively trying to lose weight, I have recently been scouring the internet for healthy, low-calorie vegan recipes to make when I’m not busy exercising or saving health posts on Pinterest. The Piñon Pine - The Indians Own Tree
When I section-hiked the PCT from Tehachapi to Walker Pass several Mays ago, as we neared the northern end of that trip we took a lunch break one day under a grove of piñon pines.  As we reached into our pack for our usual lunch of cheese, rye crackers, and salami, we began to notice that the forest floor was littered with pine nuts.  While some had become food for rodents, squirrels, and other foraging animals since dropping to the ground the prior autumn, most were so very edible. Soon we were each on our hands and knees collecting cones and harvesting their delectable contents ($29 a pound at our local co-op). I ate my fill and packed an empty bag with more nuts which I brought home with me when I left the trail.  This is David Foscue’s story of the pine nut.

An Evolutionary Feat

Piñons are coveted for their nutitious seeds.  One pound of seeds may contain 3,000 calories. The pine nuts were collected by Indians as stores for the winter. Listen again to Muir: “This is undoubtably the more important food-tree on the Sierra, and furnishes the Mono, Carson, and Walker River Indians with more and better nuts than all the other species together.  It is the Indian’s own tree, and many a white many they have killed for cutting it down.”
A diligent collector in the prime collecting time can gather up to seventy pounds of the seeds.  Humans, of course, are not the only beneficiaries of the piñon’s largess. Pine nuts are a favorite of many animals from the piñon jay to the pack rat — it is reported that over forty pounds of nuts may be found in a pack rat’s cache.  The wide popularity of piñon nuts is a matter of survival, for the seeds of the piñon lack wings and depend on animals for distribution.
The piñon of the Sierras is single-needled pine. It is a mutation of the piñon found further east on which the needles appear in bunches of two.   The two-needled piñon is subject to infestation by the piñon spindle gall midge which appears to have evolved with the tree.  The insect lays its eggs on the flat leaves, when they hatch the larvae crawl into the crotch between paired needles.  The irritation caused by the tiny larvae simulates the plant to grow tissue forming a gall over the larval wound.  The gall covers the wound but it also protects the enclosed larvae.                
The gall midge evolved to inhabit the single-needled piñon which lack the needle crotches to shelter the larvae.  According to Ronald Lanner, the single-needle piñon developed from the twin-needled variety but “one of the potential needle sites is suppressed by the … mutation.  Our gall midge neutralizes the mutation.  The feeding of the larvae suppresses the needle-suppression mechanism, allowing both of the potential needles to develop, though they reach only a fraction of their full length.  The needles are galled and the larvae grow up in the same type of needle-crotch home as those in … two needled pines.”  Needles at unaffected locations on the tree remain single.
Kit Carson, John C. Frémont and the Piñon Nut
The piñon played a supporting role in two dramas that have become part of the lore of the PCT.  One involved “The Pathfinder,” John C. Frémont, extraordinary adventurer and the first Republican presidential candidate.  The other tale involves the ill-fated Donner party.
Frémont, and his scout, Kit Carson, led the first recorded winter crossing of the Sierras.  What Frémont expected to take a week became an ordeal of five weeks.  As they faced the Sierras their supplies were running low.  Fortunately Indians supplied them with pine nuts!  On January 24, 1844, Frémont wrote:
A man was discovered running towards the camp as we were about to start this morning, who proved to be an Indian of rather advanced age–a sort of forlorn hope, who seemed to have been worked up into the resolution of visiting the strangers who were passing through the country. He seized the hand of the first man he met as he came up, out of breath, and held on, as if to assure himself of protection. He brought with him, in a little skin bag, a few pounds of the seeds of a pine-tree … .   We purchased them all from him.

The Donner Party - Rescued by Pine Nuts?
George Donner’s group was not as successful in its attempt to cross the Sierras two winters later.  In a snow storm, the party reached what is now known as Donner Lake in early November 1846.   Attempts to reach the pass failed and the party returned to the lake and settled in.  Although many of their animals froze providing unexpected food, their provisions were soon exhausted and the new settlers faced slow starvation.
On December 16 a group of fifteen left the lake in an attempt to cross the mountains for help.  Using the same term Frémont applied to the old Indian who first provided him piñon nuts, they called themselves the “Forlorn Hope Party.”  Death reduced the group to seven.  As we now know, the dead sustained the living.  
The forlorn and depleted party finally came to an Indian village on January 10.  The Indians provided acorn bread to the party but the group was so weakened their strength could not be restored.  The leader, William Eddy, became sick on the bread.  Donner’s Daughter, Eliza, writes how Eddy regained his strength:
… the chief with much difficulty procured for Mr. Eddy, a gill of pine nuts which the latter found so nutritious that the following morning, on resuming travel, he was able to walk without support.  
Eddy walked fifteen miles that day to a small settlement where he was able to organize a party to rescue the other six surviving members of  Forlorn Hope.  Eventually three rescue parties, including one led by Eddy, were organized to return to Donner Lake.  Forty-six members of the Donner party were rescued.  Forty-two did not make it.  The toll surely would have been greater but for the pine nuts given by the Indians to Eddy.  
Think about the Donner party the next time you sprinkle piñon pine nuts on your salad.

Cayenne ads a nutty, smoky flavour to food and of course heat (spiciness). It can be used to add a kick to boring vegetables, in sauces, soups, tofu stir-fries, and stews.
Mint
Mint is a pungent herb that helps ease nausea and alleviate digestive problems. It is often used in dessert recipes, but also tastes great when used fresh in sauces, salads and in tea.
Turmeric
Turmeric is most commonly used in Indian dishes, and sadly greatly overlooked as a spice in American kitchens. It contains a compound called Curcumin, which is a cancer-fighting agent.
In the U.S., it is widely used as a medicine for those with inflammation and joint problems. Turmeric can be added to vegan curry, soups, stews, sprinkled over vegetables, in sauces and muffins.
Garlic
Fresh garlic is flavourful, diverse, supports heart health, and has anti-cancer properties. Use garlic fresh and raw from the clove no longer than 15 minutes after preparation to prevent the loss of disease fighting anthocyanins that it contains. Garlic can be used in sauces, over salads, grated over steamed vegetables, and in hundreds of recipes to provide great flavour.
Herbs And Vegetarian Diets
Fresh herbs are a great addition to many dishes, both raw and cooked. Herbs and spices can add a completely new dimension to an old dish. For instance, you can make a dish Italian, or add an Asian flair with the right combination of spices, let’s look at some of the regionally based spices that will give your dull dish a tasty makeover.
If you’re looking for something reminiscent of your favourite Italian dish, get an Italian flavoured seasoning. Oregano is loaded with antioxidants; it has cancer-fighting agents. It is also a natural antiviral and antibiotic.
The oil and leaves of Oregano are used medicinally to treat body aches, fever, and cold symptoms. You can also make your own blend with staples of Italian cooking that include basil, marjoram, garlic, oregano, rosemary and thyme to create a powerful anti-bacterial, antimicrobial and cancer fighting blend. This blend and Oregano by itself can be used in sauces, stews, over vegetables, in pasta dishes and in salads.
Asian flavours can really change the dynamic of your vegetarian dish. Soy sauce is a fundamental in Asian cooking and is used in all sorts of dishes. Rice Vinegar is another staple that can really change how you feel about boring salad vinaigrette; rice vinegar has a mild sweet tang and is the fundamental for many dipping sauces you find in Chinese foods.
Asian style cuisines often use things like coconut milk to add flavor and smooth creamy texture to soups.
Fresh ginger has a potent, sweet flavour, is often used to make soups, in salads and in marinades. It can be a fantastic addition to a vegetarian dish or even eaten on its own when marinated. Ginger is great for cleaning the palate.
Never underestimate the power of a properly coupled dish. Some things just go together. Here are some of those great combinations.
Asparagus: Lemon, Garlic and Tarragon
Cauliflower: Chives, Coriander, Sage and even Turmeric
Mushrooms: Garlic, Marjoram, Nutmeg, Sage, Thyme
Zucchini: Basil and Oregano
Sweet Potatoes: Allspice Cloves, and Nutmeg
Potatoes: Rosemary, thyme parsley
These are just a few examples of great pairs you can create with just vegetables alone. Even adding these spices to a standard steamed veggie dish can give a lot more depth and interest to the vegetables themselves.
Another thing to keep in mind is proper seasoning; the use of salt and pepper is designed to bring out the flavours in a dish. Vegetarian dishes are no exception.
Make sure to add the right amount of salt (not too much) and pepper to your dish to bring out the bright and brilliant flavours the vegetables have to offer.
A Word About Dried Herbs
Dried herbs are more powerful than fresh so be careful to not overdo, an overpowered dish is worse than a bland one. Add dried herbs slowly and make sure to taste, taste, and taste again.
Spices on the other hand, like nutmeg, and bark are almost exclusively used in the dried and often ground forms, they are also potent and should be used in moderation or according to recipe directions.
