Sometimes. Sometimes it's really sweet to think about the way childhood media informed my trans identity... It's so sweet to remember how much of an escape Artemis Fowl specifically was for me, from 11 years old and onwards. To be plucked from discomfort and placed in that boy's head, how right it felt. To be fully transported to his world, and to those imperfect, gripping stories of wit and and kindness and intelligence and stubbornness and magic, how it softened the harsh edges of my mind. I joked once about his dramatic little "Artemis the hunter" speech and how it's no wonder I ended up being how I am, having that series as my favorite during my formative years- but also, yeah.
There's a reason that bit sticks in my head.

Oneshot: The Happiest Place on Earth
Tumblr media
Saw a post forever ago about what it would be like to take Dream to Disneyland and so I immediately wrote this! I was going to post it then but it contained a huge spoiler for the series so I held onto it and now that the reveal has passed this little drabble is ready for y'all to read!
TW: fluff, sarcasm, Dream hates Disneyland, just an overall cute time 🥰
"Come on Dream!" I said pulling him by the cuff of his coat. "It's the most magical place on Earth!"
Barely taking the steps forward, Dream glared up at the park and said, "I think I'd prefer another trip to Hell."
"You promised you'd do anything I wanted if I won the bet," I reminded him. "This is what I want to do."
"I did not expect you to choose something so…" He sighed, eyes sending me a displeased glare. I smirked, waiting for him to finish the words I'd once spoken after losing a bet. "Very well. I shall honor the terms of our agreement."
I smiled, pressing a kiss to his cheek as I settled in beside him, no longer having to pull him along. "Thank you. Try not to look so miserable?"
"That is not part of our agreement." He said, looking down at me looking like I'd just strangled Matthew.
"Fine, pout all you like, but I'm getting my money's worth of this."
"You're insufferable," he sighed, but the fond look in his eye told me what his words really meant.
"I know."
Matthew hopped along the ground. "I can't believe you actually made this happen, Penny."
"I should thank you too, if it weren't for our original bet this would never have happened." I said recalling the events that led us to this glorious victory.
Matthew and I sat on the steps in the throne room. I was pissed. Dream sat on his throne behind us, reading, while I grumbled and twisted the threads in my fingers. "Stupid fucking slippery ass magic thread bullshit!"
"I told you," Matthew said proudly. "Can't make a raven as good as me."
"I'm not finished yet!" I insisted.
He looked at the dimly glowing lump hanging between my fingers. "I think you are."
I glared at the bird and then at the man on his throne. "If his royal highness would just give me a tiny piece of advice then maybe this would be easier!"
Dream barely reacted, just turned another page of his book. "I'm not going to meddle in your betting. It would be unfair."
"How?" I demanded. "It's not like you'd be doing it for me."
"No, but telling you how I create creatures would be giving you the answer."
"I don't think your advice is that magical Dream."
His eyebrow arched as he looked up from his page. "Then why do you need it?"
I scoffed. "I don't."
Starry eyes flicked down to the mess in my hands. "Clearly."
"Alright then. If I can make a raven without your help then you have to do anything I want."
"And if you cannot?"
"Then I'll do whatever you want."
He thought it over for a moment with a quiet hum. "Very well, little Weaver."
It took me an hour and a half to complete the dumb bird, but it was worth every second for the look on his face when I told him Disneyland was what I wanted to do today. As we walked around, looking at the scenery and large crowds I was beaming. Dream of the Endless was far less pleased.
We waited in line for one of the rides, his arms hanging at his sides and an unimpressed pout on his lips. Matthew perched close by complaining about how unfair it was. "Mr Grumpy gets to go on the rides and I'm over here forced to sit out on the fun because I'm a damn bird!"
"If I could trade places with you I would," Dream grumbled.
"Both of you shut it. Matthew I'll get you all the food you want. Dream just try to have fun? For me?" I flashed my big puppy dog eyes and the ever so slight lip pout at him, the two things I knew he couldn't resist and watched him crumble.
He sighed. "Fine."
Once we finally got strapped in he looked at the ties with a scoff. "Is this meant to protect us?"
"It's not a fight, Dream."
"I should hope not, with so little and flimsy protection we would surely perish." He looked over at me, eyeing my own protective buckles. "Are you certain this is safe?"
With a brilliant smile I answered, "Aww, are you worried for me?"
He rolled his eyes and looked ahead. "Should you fall I'll not come to your aid."
"Yes you would," I said smugly. "You'd miss me far too much to let me fall to my death. Plus she'd kick your ass once she got here."
"She is quite fond of you." He admitted.
Once the ride began to move, Dreams arm shot across me acting as a secondary protective measure. It was thoughtful in a very Dream way. The higher we climbed the brighter his eyes seemed to grow. He was enjoying this. Every twist and turn and hang he loved. The thrill of such mortal inventions truly made him feel excited. After we got off he returned to his usual pouting, but even in his disgruntled state he didn't complain. He waited with me in every line, went on the rides with me, took pictures, all of it.
He liked the fast rides the best, I could feel his excitement and adrenaline shuffle between us every time we reached the top of a drop or went through a tunnel, but even knowing I felt it he'd never actually admit to such a thing. The people he hated. Loathed would be a better word to describe it. At one point someone ran past him, spilling some of their drink on his boots and he nearly made everyone in the park vanish. But at the same time he watched all the children interact with their favorite princesses and heroes with a mournful joy in his eyes.
I hadn't thought of what seeing so many kids at once would put him through. The loss of his son, though so long had passed, still haunted him. As I turned, mouth open to apologize and offer to go Dream was gone. I looked around a bit, moving through the crowd trying to locate his tall dark silhouette, but it was Matthew I saw first. As I moved closer I saw Dream, crouched down and holding the hand of a little girl dressed head to toe in a bright green dress with large fairy wings on her back. She clumsily put her shoe back on, using Dream as a support and then she turned to him with a toothy smile before running off to her parents, waving at him as they walked away.
My heart filled with the absolute want to see him interact with kids of our own one day, but above my own feelings I felt his. He hummed with a similar longing accompanied by a dull ache, a lingering thought of what he'd once had with Orpheus. He stood silently first a moment, only turning when I gently brushed my hand against his. With tearful eyes he smiled at me. "Forgive my disappearance the child fell and I helped her up."
I shrugged off his apology. "I don't mind. It was sweet of you to help her."
Dream felt the emotion in me and his smile widened. "I'll not allow abh future children of ours to suffer this hellscape of yours."
Scoffing, I rose up on the tips of my toes and slid the mouse ear head be and into his messy hair with a grin. "Hellscape? That's a bit dramatic."
"You cannot truly expect me to wear these." He sighed.
"Just for one picture, please?" I begged.
"One."
I pulled out my camera, moving in close against him and taking the picture. He looked miserable in the ears, but I adored it. "I think I'll hang this one in the throne room."
"You'll do no such thing." He warned.
"Fine, I'll just hang it on our wall then," I compromised.
"You're insufferable."
"Only for you, Dream Lord."
As the sun set and the night sky filled with fireworks, Dreamsarms wrapped around me. "Are you pleased with your victory day, my love?"
"It was perfect," I said, tilting my head up to press a kiss to the underside of his jaw. "Thank you, Morpheus."
"A deal is a deal," he said simply. "However, in future, remind me to never let you choose this again."
"You loved it," I insisted.
"I love you." His starry eyes gleamed down at me.
I hummed, full of food and joy and contentment. "As I love you."

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favourite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💕
With the obvious caveat that I would assuredly pick five different fics tomorrow, here you go nonny, in no particular order, and attempting to NOT list just half a dozen Malec things just because they are my Hotel California fandom apparently... But I do have to have at least one for them! #BecauseMalec
out of some dreaming tree: Malec Fairy Tale Quest! A Forest That Eats "People" (and other Things)! Weird eldritch and magical lore!
This AU requires absolutely NO CANON KNOWLEDGE and I keep hoping some of the people who occasionally just read my fic for shits & giggles will try it even though they're not Shadowhunters people. But also more Shadowhunters people should also read it, I had such a great time writing it. 🤣
Vindication: M!Shepard/Jack. Did I mention I have a thing for fairy tales? AND ALSO JACK FROM MASS EFFECT? (I'm love her, your honors)
So it's almost more a series of post-game scenes than my usual prose story style (because Jack POV and that's how she wanted to tell it) and Jack's trying to learn the context of kids' stories, and take care of Shepard who is being kind of a dumb ass but mostly just, yk, trying to recover, and Miranda is Brilliant (even Jack is willing to admit it) and I am very fond of it.
souver'inan isala hamin (weary eyes need resting): DAI, Varric & a Dalish Inquisitor, friends vs family vs love... or something like that.
Having Varric be in your party again, having Hawke's shadow from the previous game spilling over your Inquisitor, was fascinating to me. (Especially as Varric & my Adelaide were family but not ever really friends, and family is a fraught sort of thing for a Tethras and a Hawke/Amell.) Romancing Blackwall and trying to be friends with Dorian, being Dalish and Inquisitor, it was just... prickly all the way through. (In a good way, imo.) My Inquisitor was also noticeably older than my Wardens or Hawkes had been, much more self-aware and dangerous in a way that the narrative of DAI seldom let me illustrate or articulate, and while I'm not sure how much of that is clear in the fic, I can still feel what it was like for Erana to despise the world she's going to save because she loves too many of the people in it to do anything else, and I enjoy wallowing in that sometimes.
Solace: DA2, Adelaide Hawke/Sebastian Vael, my darlings, my beloveds
While not the first thing I wrote for them, it was the story of their first meeting, and it meant a lot a lot a lot to me when I finally did manage to let it happen outside of my head. Also Sebastian recognizing the Adelaide/Bethany/Carver/Daryn joke made my day when I wrote it and still makes me smile.
Fine Feathers: Yuletide fic! Book!fic, which I don't do terribly often! M/F Regency Romance
An epilogue for The Quiet Gentleman which is, if you are unaware, a novel by The Lady Who Made Regency a Viable Modern Genre almost 100 years ago, which means it has a Very Specific Style and I was very pleased I managed to capture it. (Also it's both one of my favorites of Georgette Heyer's books but also one of the most frustrating, because the lead couple has like ONE HALF OF A SCENE TOGETHER so I wrote them together more and honestly now I like the original book better, which is some hellishly ridiculous hubris but I don't care.)

For the Character Ask Game
Lairre: 1; 4; 9; 14; 25 Ruth Evershed: 1; 2; 6; 10; 20
(You don't have to answer all those questions, BTW - feel free to pick and choose out of the 5 I asked for each one.)
So. I'm answering all of them. Because I love them. Thank you <3
LAIRRE
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
I love the narrative contrast of... how she is in the canon versus her deeply tragic roots. She's very much the 'I was dealt a shitty hand and it took ages but I chipped at the road and I've made the most of it' character. Plus, I love her snark which is absolutely a consequence of Nicola Walker's line delivery. Which, as we know, is always on point.
4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?
TV series, actually. I feel like... if you took monster of the week style adventures like Mythos and applied the usual over-arching narrative, you'd have struck gold, probably.
9. Could you be roommates with this character?
Fuck no, we'd be so bad for each other. I do dumb shit that'd annoy her, and her snark would probably make me cry at some point. I'm lowkey a sensitive little shit. We'd bump heads. I do think, long run we'd be okay, but not in a 24/7 living in the same space scenario.
14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.
Day to day I always picture her dressing kind of like Cassie from Unforgotten but like... somewhat neater? Deep pockets are essential, got to keep that phone somewhere and with the size of phones these days... well. Let's not lose our enochian wards on accident. And I say deep pockets because I don't see Lairre as the purse carrying type.
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
It's a bit funny to answer this one because innitially I didn't really form an impression of her. I knew I liked her but I got lost in the storytelling because I was lacking context for a few things, but that lowkey fondness only got stronger over time. I absolutely love her now, and I miss her and I hope Julian Simpson brings her back again soon. That one little bit at the last episode of The Lovecraft Investigations was not enough :P
RUTH EVERSHED
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
*gestures wildly* have you seen her? Do I need to elaborate? She's, as someone else once said a dark-haired brilliant bitch. And she really is. She's so multifaceted and layered - starting out as always wanting to please, and quietly content just doing her thing to just wanting to protect those closest to her. Her character journey is... peak.
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
She rambles. She rambles on and on to the point of tripping up and I love that. It's such a small thing but it makes her human. Sod perfect speech, give me characters that think faster than their mouth moves.
6. What's something you have in common with this character?
The forever alone cat lady vibe is real. Always in love with older people out of reach. Love never quite happens. Content just doing my thing even if I'm the odd one out, it's how I like it. Also used to share her early series dress-sense when I was in my teens. Bohemian all the way, though, I'm more in my late series Ruth era where dress is concerned these days.
10. Could you be best friends with this character?
Given time and space to both of us for that to naturally happen? Probably. But we're both very watching this from a distance where strangers are concerned, bit odd on the social front, so us befriending and getting close would take luck and looooot of time.
20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?
I thought on this one long and hard because the thing is, of all the characters on the show, she's friends with a few of the long running ones and deep as that goes her ideal best friend, the one person who probably gets her best despite all the ups and downs of their turbulent relationship is Harry. In my eyes anyway. But as that is ship territory, I really enjoyed her easy friendship with Danny and I would have loved to have seen more of it. Zaf as well actually. So, tricky question that I fear I do not have a very definitive answer to.

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks..
Of course I don't mind! This is a tough question though, because the scope is too broad, so I'll list some recent ones that come to mind.
Bokuto Koutarou (Haikyuu): Such a talented and fun character! But the reason I love him a lot is because, contrary to the way fandom reads his character, he's quite smart and extremely perceptive. As we saw in the 3rd Gym arc, he doesn't go through training mindlessly and when asked, he was able to condense three years of his experience into useful advice in a non-forceful manner. He's the real star (together with Yamaguchi) behind Tsukishima coming to terms with effort and volleyball. Again, contrary to people that make it all about Akaashi or Kuroo. I can give a 3 hour long ppt presentation about Bokuto.
Julius Novachrono (Black Clover): I recently started reading Black Clover so I'm around chapter 200. Julius immediately became a favorite because of his glimmering eyes, childlike curiosity towards magic, and compassion towards other people. I generally like characters that are unbelievably strong but instead of going around acting big, they just... vibe. And occasionally cause problems for the authority with good intentions.
Kageyama Shigeo (Mob Psycho 100): Talking about characters who are unbelievably strong, I couldn't NOT mention Shigeo. I ugly sobbed watching the last season and it never ceases to amaze me the way One incorporates the notion of power into his works. Forever proteccccc!!!
Bocchi (Bocchi The Rock): This series was easily one of the best one, especially in terms of its visual prowess, I've watched in a long while. I love Bocchi because she's an anxious mess and a lot of the time she's running away from reality, thus dream grandoise dreams on the daily, which is... very relatable tbh. She's also extremely cool when playing the guitar.
Emilico (Shadows House): I love Emilico because, she's a smart and strong young woman, but not in ways we conventionally define "strong" or "smart". She's a quick thinker and very practical, and her strength lies in her ability to move others and create a support system where everyone can rely on others when needed. I'd like to be friends with her!
Minare Koda (Wave, Listen to Me!): I'd probably think twice before befriending her but gosh she's a ball of fire! And it was so much fun watching her fuk up a lot but manage to somehow make it through the day! Plus, people who can find stuff to talk for hours unprovoked have my respect.
Sieon (Love For Sale): This is a BL manhwa by Dal Hyeonji that I will never EVER forget and will always carry in my heart. Sieon is the older male lead who works in publishing and he's one of the most, if not THE most, well-written characters I've come across. I felt like I had a lot of similarities with him and appreciated greatly that among the generic romance stories, we got one that was able to look beyond the cliches and was able to show there are different ways to love people romantically. Another 3 hour long Ted Talk topic for me.
Mitsuya Majime (The Great Passage): The Great passage is a series that I always remember fondly and Majime is the serious (like his name) quiet and book-loving male lead. He's especially particular about words themselves and I felt like he was my spirit animal. Love him to bits.
Karlyle (Define the Relationship): Another character from a BL manhwa. I'm super fond of Karlyle because he's so tender in every way. I adore characters (and also, tbh, envy secretly)who are naive but not dumb, maybe a bit inexperienced and they take smaller steps/are timid but always work hard towards what they want and are honest to themselves about their feelings. This probably won't make sense if you haven't read the manhwa, sorry... But I just want to encourage him and pull him into a tight hug! Deserves the best!!!
Katsuki Yuri (Yuri!!! On Ice): I wrote my thoughts on his character before on my Twitter (you can read it here if you'd like) but... yeah. Another talented, sweet, lovable character that I felt lucky being a part of the series' fandom and watched it week after week together with other fans!
Honorable Mention // Higuruma (Jujutsu Kaisen): His arc was brief, but packed the biggest punch for me. His backstory and fight with Yuuji will be the arc that I'll never forget in Jujutsu Kaisen. Masterpiece.
Hope this was interesting enough! Have a nice 2023 ~

I need to rant about fictional characters, so everyone just humor for a little bit.
Despite my better judgement, I have started to read Zodiac Academy. Having seen a few rant/reviews about it, I decided what the heck, I'm in the mood for a bully romance. I have a weird fondness for bully romances, I can't help it, I just love the angst and over the top drama that comes out of them. And this book series I have somehow come to both love unironically and completely abhor at the same time. I cant explain it, I have a very complicated relationship with Zodiac Academy.
So time for the rant. I'm on Book 3 right now and OMG, I just want this book to end, please. The boys have just found out that the twins have been playing all of these super embarrassing pranks on them as payback for the boys' bullying antics towards them. And these boys are pissed and are out for the twins' blood. And I'm just like FUCK YOU to these boys. You took away those girls' dignities by using their biggest fears against them but it's not "ok, maybe we deserve that". No, its instead, "how dare they rise up against us instead of bending the knee, they'll pay for this". When in reality, what Tori and Darcy did was small potatoes compared to what these boys did to them. So you can dish it out, but you can't take it can you? And these are the boys that supposedly are meant to rule Solaria eventually? These boys with their fragile egos are the jewels of Solaria? And I get it, you know, they're basically royalty, they have to show they exert absolute control and power over their subjects. So Tory and Darcy not taking their shit along with being the only other people that have claim to the throne is a huge power play that the boys need to squash. But instead of getting angry and trying to break these girls, maybe they should instead show Solaria that these girls mean nothing to them by simply ignoring them. And trying to squash these girls with power plays really doesnt do a whole lot to help return their fragile egos because all they're doing is showing what they are, a group of spoiled rich boys who have no concept of the lives of their subjects that they're expected to one day rule. With everyone expected to bow to them, how are they a better option as opposed to the Savage King then? Also, these boys are so dumb. Why did it take a book and a half to figure these girls were fucking with them? It was known that they both were not at the assembly the day Darius's room mysteriously burned down. Seth conveniently got fleas when he had no idea where he could possibly have gotten them so of course that meant there was magical fuckery going on, and who had motivation to do that again?. Caleb's rumor about how he likes to screw individuals of the Pegasus order, how convenient that most of the time the people going so hard on this rumor were part of Tory and Darcy's friend group. And Max got Griffin poop smeared all over his pittball gear after he just had detention with Darcy having to clean up Griffin poop. Like sure, maybe separately these issues could fall below the radar, but come on, they happen at almost the exact same time. Just days after that nightmare dance where they nearly destroyed the twins. Maybe Solaria should be a little more worried about their potential chosen leaders being this dumb. Not that Tori and Darcy are much better, I mean come on girls, how did you not see this coming? Eventually the boys were going to line up their stories and realize something hinky was going on and that it all lead right back to them. But considering that the only reason the boys figured it out was that dumb dagger Tori took, maybe they wouldn't have had anything to worry about if Tori never took that dagger from Darius's room and just lit it on fire with everything else.
And on another side rant, Tyler, my man, how is this kid still alive? Like through all of these pranks the girls had been playing on the boys, you got Tyler just adding fuel to the fire on FaeBook. Like how has this boy not been murdered by the Heirs yet because of his dumb FaeBook posts. But I got to hand it to him, Tyler's a douche and kind of a creep, but the fact that he's willing to cross the Heirs for a meaningless laugh on a FaeBook post, he gets some brownie points from me. He and Geraldine might be my favorite side characters in this book series.
Anyway, rant over. Most of my followers probably dont know anything about this book series. So you all are probably very confused. But go ahead and read the books if you dare. You might end up falling down the rabbit hole as I did.

For the character ask meme: Ciri!
Thanks for the ask <33
my general perception of them
I love her!! I'm especially fond of the weird little girl energy Sapko gave her in the books. I think she's one of the greatest portrayals of a child character i've ever read? She's smart and she's brazen and she talks back to adults; she's basically the chosen one and she has to deal with a shit ton of trauma that only gets worse as the books progress, but at the end of the day, she's still a little kid who gets to do normal, dumb kid stuff like climbing trees and sulking and talking back to adults and showing off her cool new witcher tricks in front of the other children at Nenneke's temple. How can you not like her
Her quest to reclaim control over her life and over her body is also particularly moving. She's the culmination of Geralt and Yennefer's character arcs: maybe some of their choices have already been made for them, but they will fight until the end so that this little girl can have the liberty to decide what she wants to do with her life and with her body. Never fails to make me tear up
an unpopular opinion or, failing that, a fun fact
I always headcanon Ciri to be non-binary or at the very least not strictly cis. I don't know. Something about her just feels very gender to me.
music i associate with them (if any)
Part of the reason why it took me so long to answer this ask was because I couldn't come up with a song that made me think of her, but now that i'm almost done with Sword of Destiny and about to reread Blood of Elves, i realized that The Golden Age by Woodkid is a great song for her. It reminded me of the few months she spent in Kaer Morhen, sheltered from the world and the closest she got to a normal childhood after the fall of Cintra, but it also announces the series of events that will begin in Time of Contempt and which I definitely don't want to think about :')))) also the third verse ends on "We are family/No matter what they say/But boys are meant to flee/And run away one day" and yeah. that does it for me
if I feel (spiritually) like I could beat them in a fight
Oh no. Even if i was stupid enough to find myself in a fight against her, I'd have at the very least the decency to die immediatly

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Thanks....
Hi! That's a tough question, as I've just... read and seen so many things. So this will be the 10 favourites off the top of my head!
In no particular order:
❤ Tohru Honda, from Fruits Basket
I love how kind she is, and brave. I love how she chose to be nurturing and giving and sweet because of what her mother taught her about people and their feelings. She's the result of her mother deciding to break the cycle of violence, the choice to heal instead of propagating hurt.
Crucially, she's not weak for it. When it matters, she's brave and determined and faces off with her fears and opponents like a true heroine. She knows how to fight, and she can take a punch (literally, that one time lol). She just chooses to do it only when it really matters, and not to vent her own feelings.
I also love how everyone is a little in love with her, boys and girls ahah! I also love how she reacts to women and women's beauty, I firmly think she's bi - that's the vibe I'm picking up in any case.
❤ Chu Wanning, from Dumb Husky and his White Cat Shizun
Aah Chu Wanning... I just. Love how repressed he is. It's the best kind of fun to have a character SO FULL TO BURSTING with wants, sweetness, passion, and see how the narrative chips aways at their walls until it finally gives them what they want, dragging them hissing and fighting like a scared cat. He complicates his own life needlessly and suffers when he could not, but even if you want to shake him and force him to take care of himself... you understand. You understand why he's such a disaster. I love how kind he is (that will be a recurring theme in the characters I love lol), and how selfless. He has so much control over himself and I find it.. realistic, I suppose. It takes a lot normally to break someone who feels they have to hide their vulnerabilities, and most stories let them break too easily.
❤Lan WangJi, from Mo Dao Zu Shi
Same as Chu Wanning, I love his repression and shame (because they're meant to be soothed by the narrative). I love how quiet and discreet he is! And that the exuberant one still sees that he is interesting and finds him fascinating. I love that he's in full blown gay panic as a teenager and I equally love that he makes peace with himself, both sides of himself, as an adult.
I'm really fond of the fact that he genuinely likes and adheres to his sect's principles, not blindly, but purposefully. He does enjoy the quiet, simple, healthy and mindful lifestyle. He's just not rigid anymore about it. It makes me melt to see his relationship with the juniors, how lenient yet firm he is with them. They can be kids and silly and emotional, he'll let them, but still enforce the rules in a measured, fair way. They never resent him for it.
It is also, of course, charming to have a faultlessly loyal character, who only loves once, who wants to give and and to protect and to stand with his love.
❤The Fool/Beloved, from Realm of the Elderlings
What I love about him is how sensitive he is. He feels so much, and yet he hides so much. He's in love with the most annoyingly oblivious and foolish and stubborn man around, which. Anyone who has been in unrequited love with an idiot can relate LOL. I also love how multi-faceted he is. He's an obscene jester, he's a prim lady, he's a flirty lordling, he's a ruthless prophet, he's a humble woodcarving woman. He feels no conflict about this. What he feels, and hides with all his might, is vulnerable.
His queerness is catnip to me. He's probably one of the first if not the first genderqueer characters I've encountered and it made fireworks in my head.
❤ Laurent, from Captive Prince
Excuse me while I *keens high-pitched into a pillow*
Okay I'm back. Laurent is AGAIN a very controlled and repressed character, which by now we've established I adore. He's also, massively, devastatingly, knee-meltingly... badass. Smart as FUCK, swordsman of the century (barring Damen, perhaps), pretty as FUCK!
Damen misses this, sadly, for most of the narrative, but he's also so, so, so funny. Often in a mean way (which. Understandable, carry on, king), but downright hilarious.
He's also just a very young vulnerable man full of cracks, who had to fight with all his might to survive. I won't lie, I'm swooning as soon as I think about him with the top two knots of his severe, severe collar undone, or trembling minutely and finally releasing some tension under Danem's careful, careful massaging fingers... UGNH. Best, best kind of tension, 100/10, love these books, 1000/10 would read all the ways Laurent will let go of his control and relax.
❤ Regina, from Once Upon a Time
This series is all over the place, and I never finished it, but ~Regina~... Wow. It's obvious the (beautiful, beautiful) actress had so much fun playing her. She's both unapologetically evil, which is always so entertaining to see, and trying to be better, which of course is endearing as hell.
❤ Uncle Iroh, from Avatar, the Last Airbender
Do I even need to explain? He's simply the best. Unconditional love, cool uncle, loves tea, stone cold badass, in a cool secret society, didn't kill a dragon but made everyone believe he did in order to save the last ones while still earning his title because he learnt true firebending that is actually nurturing and life-giving?? I am in love, sir, marry me, I will bear the smell of your dirty shoes for the sake of your giant magnificent heart!
❤ Waymond, from Everything, Everywhere, all at Once
I've been gushing about him ever since I saw the movie. He's just. He's kind and nurturing, and that's it. He likes simple things, he tries to always have people get along, he's just a dude, but the best kind of dude. I would also like to make laundry and taxes with him all my life.
❤ Estraven, from The Left Hand of Darkness
Ursula le Guin ran so that Robin Hobb could walk (I said what I said). Estraven is so interesting. He (they?) has a strong moral compass, a capacity for seeing the bigger picture, that transcends his nationalistic culture and makes him a visionary. He's just.. so different, and yet at the end, just like Genly, you understand him in the ways that matter. I don't really know how to talk about this book and this character, it's best to experience it for oneself.
❤ Spock, from Star Trek, the original series
Nobody does it like he does. Eyeshadow? On point. Emotions? Unleashed. Vulcaness? Horny. He and Kirk launched slash, and Leonard Nimoy, on top of being a hottie, was a sweetheart and had played, if I remember correctly, one of the first gay characters out there, which. Respect.
Spock has all my catnip ingredients: repressed, full of emotions, horny, sensitive.
Also very smart and funny.

Hello, grieving Adrien stan here.
Do i need to read all the pjo and heroes novels to fully “get” trials of Apollo books? I was never that interested in greco-roman myth or those series as a kid when they were super popular. also I haven’t read a proper book in an embarrassingly long time. Nevertheless I’d like to give a chance if they’re as great as you say.
unrelated,a while back I had half a mind to watch smallville do you know if its worth it?
hey Anon, first of all, my condolences. I’ve been there too.
Second: no you absolutely do not have to read any of the previous novels to understand/appreciate TOA! I am a big proponent of the “TOA first” reading approach in fact (tho obviously you won't have to go back and read the rest of the saga afterwards either), and I’ve already written a little primer for fellow readers who may want to start directly from TOA like I did, based on my own reading experience and the knowledge gaps that I found myself having. I will add, given what’s your reason for wanting to check this out, a few caveats:
this story is not a romance. It's about abuse, emancipation and self actualization. It’s also simultaneously a redemption story because
this Adrien is older (like 4000+ years older lol) and both his personal history and the amount of character development he underwent before the story even starts reflect this. He’s had time to grow up, fuck up very badly in ways that his upbringing explains but does not excuse, and this story is also the story of him coming to terms with and figuring out what he can do about that.
He’s also an incredibly unreliable narrator, and not in the ways you’re led to expect (if you’re familiar with the Adrien The Liar meta know that it’s as much - at this point probably more lbr - about Apollo than it is about Adrien, except for Apollo you gotta multiply it for like 10000). Which means you may have a hard time recognizing him for a while (I think when it really clicked for me was between book 3 and 4). Or maybe not, bc apparently some people clocked the similarities since the very beginning
it’s all so cringe. You’re a fellow ML (ex) fan so I'm sure you can appreciate some quality cringe but I feel compelled to give a warning anyway. I love it, and I don’t think a story like this about a character like this could have been told any other way because (among other reasons that I won’t say bc I’m already spoiling enough) nobody who cares as much and earnestly as Apollo does could ever be Cool ™. But yeah. The narrative style either works for you or it doesn’t bc it’s 100% not a bug but a feature.
Last but not least, if you think it might be easier for you to digest a whole book series in audio format, I’ve been told by multiple people that the TOA audiobooks are really well done.
-
As for Smallville… well, the show as a whole is definitely… an acquired taste 😅 It’s so dumb in so many ways, and not self aware enough to make up for it. I have an incredible fondness for SV, and for its version of Clark & Lois especially; I’d dare say it is still my favorite modern interpretation of their dynamic on screen to date, but it took the show a while to get to the point where their relationship took center stage (S8-9-10, basically. This is after all technically a superman origin story) and it was a very bumpy ride. The show has some truly terrible writing mixed in with the brilliance lol. But yeah go for it if you feel in the mood! Fyi Lois Lane only gets introduced in season 4 which is also one of the show’s best, most enjoyable & silly seasons imho so if you’re on the fence you could try beginning from there (I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to figure out what’s going from context clues).

I’m only two chapters into Gideon the Ninth because frankly my attention span is trash lately. Do you, knowing me, think I will enjoy it? And can you cite specific examples (jokes, scenes, characters)?
book list in ref
heyyo I only just saw this klhfdjkgfdjlkhgs spent too much time dissociating
I'm currently re-listening to it right now! My first time through it didn't really jive with me (not enough that I didn't complete it, but enough I wasn't sure i was gonna continue on the series.) I'm not entirely sure what you tend to go for in your reading experiences (bc I know I can handle some things as a book but not a show and vice versa) But I feel like it's up your alley.
Rivals to lovers* ✅️ Idiots to lovers* ✅️ Constant lamenting for a greatsword ✅️ Gory deaths ✅️ Arguably, disregard for human life ✅️ Corpse desecration (beheading) ✅️ Warcrime(s) ✅️ Emotional vulnerability while in a salt lake bc ??? ✅️ Conniving backstabbing women ✅️ A sword duel on a table bc Why Not ✅️
*not sure how lovers we're counting lovers bc of Events at the end of the book but I don't quite remember how said Events conclude bc memory is fake. But I only have a few hrs of the book left so I can get back to you on that tomorrow when I finish it. But it's at the very least ride or die with spots of deep emotional intimacy
Like, frankly, what makes it a "in the right mood" book for me might be what sells it for you; Gideon's like. Now I might not be right bc I've never been super fond of the genre, but Gideon feels like if you took the male lead of, like, movies like 300? and tossed him in the Gender Machine and then tweaked all factors likely to tweak on gender, made her a lesbian (bi? Not sure if that's established. She's Canonically Into Ladies tho) and then fucking like. Basically tethered her to Fenumin (not entirely fair, probably more tethered her to a capricorn or virgo but Harrow's got some of the Vibes. I love her.)
Also like? You love known himbo and wife guy Magnus Burnsides? We've got another (somewhat?) beefy wife guy (wouldn't say he's dumb enough for himbo) who tells the worst joke in the book and it made me actually snicker and everyone in the book (except Gideon who loved it) groan. Fox would hate it bad

SPOILERS FOR NONA THE NINTH:
End of day 2 of reading NtN, and I am only halfway through 'Day Two' in the book. Today was a slower reading day because I didn't get a chance to read during nap time at work and a lot of my time at home was spent packing for a road trip (mothman festival!) I was really hoping to get each day read in a day, but I also figure chapters will get longer, more chapters per 'day' probably, as the book goes on. Plus I have no idea how much reading I'll get done during the trip.
I would die for Noodle. Noodle has six legs, six sets of toe beans and I love him. He deserves his spot on the cover of the book.
I also love Nona's complete normalization of things that are NOT normal. On some level she seems to understand that these things are not normal, but on the same level she seems to de ide she doesn't give a fuck what 'normal' means and she's going to make this normal instead, so on the surface she seems more ignorant and willful.
Why does she hate eating so much? Is it because Harrow disliked foods or is it related to that like earlier about zombies not eating? Or unrelated to either? We'll see.
I have mixed feelings about hearing about John's experiences back on the Earth we know today, before all the necromancy and immortality bullshit. On one hand, fantastic, I love it, I'm cheering this amoral lunatic on. Commit those crimes against humanity, babe. You're doing awful.
On the other hand I'm so angry because I've been working on a book for fucking years that premise is built around some guy from our modern world who played with powers beyond his control, outlasted an apocalypse, and now lives in the very, very distant future with a complicated relationship with his own immortality and a deliciously disconnected relationship to mortals and their silly little lives. Damn it, the dumb references to a world that only he has evidence ever even existed fits, and the dragging people he is fond of into his fucked up little game only to dispose of them or keep them with no real sense of attached morality fits.
But even this is excessive. I love it. No fiction is unique in entirety, and statistically, my story will never be published.
I dont have much more to say on the story progress, I only read 3 chapters today. I just wanted to put my comparisons into word somewhere. If anything, I hope this series can help .otivate me to finish my own. All work is influenced by others; it is impossible to escape.

for the 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 collab <3
summary: you've always been fond of your step-brother, jean, despite how much he tries to avoid spending time with you. he finally reaches his breaking point when he sees you talking to eren, though.
warnings: step-cest, slight manipulation (reader), possessive behavior, teasing + edging, fingering, oral sex (m receiving), degradation, rough sex, creampie, jean is a good boy and reader is a fiend
author's note: i hope everyone likes this!!! i'm thinking about creating a step-cest series, let me know who should be next! tagging the lovely @yeagerslut & sending a big thank you for creating this collab! <3
Tumblr media
Jean can never really peel his eyes away from you, no matter how hard he tries. At first it was subtle glances, like staring at the exposed skin of your supple thighs from his place beside his mom, when she was first introducing you and your father to him.
His first thought, besides the fact that it’ll be nice to have a sibling in the house with him every once in a while, is that your dress is incredibly short. So short that he wonders how you’re allowed to leave the house in something like that. If it was up to him, he wouldn’t let you, that’s for sure.
He quickly remembers that it’s not up to him, and that it’s not his place to be worrying about the length of your hem. Jean tries to suppress the strange, sudden burning feeling in his chest when he thinks about you wearing something as short as that when he has his friends over. No, that won’t be allowed.
He’ll have to tell someone about it, at some point, because he can’t stand the unusual jealousy he feels stirring at the idea of one of his friends looking at you while you’re wearing that.
His thoughts are cut short when his mother tells you two to get acquainted, while your dad and her head to the kitchen to prepare dinner. Jean almost doesn’t want them to leave, doesn’t want to be left alone with you and those legs and that dress, but he doesn’t have any say in the matter.
Your first words to your new step-brother are carefully calculated. In fact, you've been deciding everything carefully. The way you did your hair, the dress you’ve chosen that’s much too short for a family dinner but it’s not like someone can stop you, even the pink lip gloss you reapplied in the car before entering the house. Everything has its purpose, its place, with one goal in mind: see how long it takes for Jean to crack.
“I’m so excited to finally have a big brother, Jean!” you let out in a cheerful, chirpy voice that doesn’t match your insidious thoughts at all. You close the bridge separating you two with a few steps, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him down into a hug.
It’s so sudden, so unforeseen that he stumbles a little, letting his tall figure be pulled by your efforts and arms wrapping around your waist for support. And before he knows it, the sweet smell of your perfume is invading all his senses and leaving him with nothing to think about except you.
He takes it all in, the lingering scent of shampoo in your hair, something fruity, he thinks off-hand, the feel of your soft skin on the back of his neck, your cheek against his, but especially the way your breasts feel against his chest.
He pulls away before you want him to, and you begrudgingly allow him to, recognizing what a challenge it’ll be. But you’re always up for a challenge.
The first few months pass by in the blink of an eye for you, and dragging on and on for him. Jean tries to avoid interactions with you since that first meeting, but it’s hard to when you’re living in the same house as him. Even harder when your bedroom is right next to his, his mother offering up his assistance to help you move boxes and get settled while she and her new husband go out to dinner.
It’s ridiculous, the way he flushes bright red when he opens boxes and suitcases filled with clothing he doesn’t want to look at, all short skirts and sun-dresses and delicate panties that he tries and fails not to stare at.
You keep your gaze away, knowing exactly which suitcase you had given him to unpack, while you organize books on the shelves of the room and sort knick-knacks.
“Won’t it be nice sharing a wall?” you comment, adjusting a frame on your nightstand and not meeting Jean’s eyes. “I think it’ll be fun to have you so close.”
Jean chokes on the water he was drinking, gasping for air and trying to process your words all at once, when you finally turn around and smile. A smile that he thinks should be illegal, given the way it’s innocence personified when you’re actually a little devil.
He leaves a little bit after that, calling out that he’s not hungry when you knock on his door for dinner, but you don’t miss the way he sounds breathless, or the panties missing from your drawers.
Every challenge gets easier, right?
It doesn’t take long for your behavior to get a little out of hand, especially when the two of you have so much alone time together. Your parents are gone all the time, frequenting dinner parties and double dates, and not coming back until late at night.
Jean tries his best to keep away. While he had once been the friend whose house was always available for sleepovers, movie nights, and the like, he was now keeping everyone away. Every time your parents’ car left the driveway, Jean followed suit, either hopping into Connie’s Jeep or walking the short distance to Sasha’s place and leaving you alone.
He was hoping no one would notice, but of course someone did, and of course that someone was Eren.
“We can’t do my place again,” Sasha says, absentmindedly reaching for the bag of chips which Connie yanks out of her reach. “My dad’s having people over.” A swat to the back of Connie’s head gets her back the snack quickly.
“How come we can’t do Jean’s place like usual?” Eren asks, reclining back in his seat and enjoying the panicked expression on Jean’s face. “There something wrong with that new sister of yours?” Jean chokes back a cough.
“No.”
“Does she always have friends over, or something?”
“No.”
“Then it’s settled,” Eren says, bringing his hands together. “Jean’s place it is.” Shit, Jean. Better come up with something quick.
“We- we can’t do my place!” he sputters out much too loudly, meeting the gaze of every person in the room.
“Any reason why, Jean-bo?” Eren asks.
“I- we- what if she’s not okay with having a bunch of loud-mouthed idiots sleeping over?” Shitty, but it’s the best he can think of when he’s so concerned with keeping everyone away from you.
If you behave like that with parents in the house, how are you gonna behave with his friends around? He doesn’t wanna take the chance to find out.
“How about you call and ask, dumb-ass?” Connie suggests, shoving his phone at him and waiting with a confused look. Jean lets out a defeated sigh, knowing how this phone call will go.
Your loud, chirpy “I’m perfectly fine with that, silly! I’ve been waiting to meet your friends..” can be heard through the phone and answers Eren’s question.
Jean searches for a reason, any reason really, to keep this sleepover from happening, but realizes that he’s failed miserably when all his friends appear, clad with pillows and overnight bags, on his front door. “So,” Eren begins, with a wolfish grin on his face that Jean wants to punch right off, “Where’s the sister? It’s only polite to say hi, right?”
As if you’d been waiting for the cue, you poke your head out from the living room, that very same innocent and sweet smile gracing your face.
“Hi,” you, stepping out to greet his friends in the foyer. “It’s so nice to meet you all.”
Jean immediately regrets the fact that he never had that conversation with you about the length of your dresses. It always sat in the back of his head somewhere, though it was incredibly easy to dismiss when you would come sit next to him on the couch, dress riding up frequently and exposing more skin that he somehow always found himself entranced by.
Today the dress of choice is yellow, and though it does, in fact, cover everything it needs to, it doesn’t leave much to the imagination either. Jean almost feels like a schoolboy again, blushing at exposed shoulders and thighs, but he can’t help it when you’re clinging right to his side as you greet his friends.
“I’m Eren-”
“Hi, I’m Connie-”
“Ignore these two, I’m Sasha-” All meet each other at once. You let out a laugh at your step-brother’s funny friends, glancing up to see his expression, but all you see are signs of anger. Your smile dims a little, but picks right back at up when you notice the way Eren looks at you, and the way Jean looks at Eren.
A plan is working itself into creation in your head before you can help it, deviousness taking a hold on you as you smile brightly in favor of Eren over Jean. Your step-brother’s been keeping his distance all this time, but you’re about ready to force his hand.
You don’t miss the way Jean’s jaw tightens, his hand clenching into a fist at his side as he guides the group to the living room. Your original plan changes quickly, following them into the space and taking your usual place on the couch as you scan the various video games laid out.
“Eren, will you sit with me?” you ask in a gentle tone, one that Jean is all too familiar with. “I don’t know this game, can I watch you play first?”
“Don’t you have work to do, or something?” Jean blurts out without thinking, his only thought centered around getting you out of the room and as far away as he can.
“What work? It’s summer,” you reply, watching your step-brother’s cheeks turn red.
You’re not helping matters for Jean, as he watches Eren sit where he usually does, teeth clenched so hard his jaw hurts. He doesn’t think he could get more angry, until he notices Eren’s hand move to your knee, squeezing quickly but lingering entirely too long. There must be steam coming out of Jean’s ears at this point, watching this interaction between you two.
“Yeah, Jean, she can stick around to watch. Anything for your little sister, right?” “I’m not that much younger than you guys, you know,” you reply with a laugh, adjusting your position on the sofa and purposefully lifting the skirt of your dress for a second before letting it settle. If someone were looking, which both Jean and Eren were, they’d catch a glimpse of black panties, and they both did.
Jean is seeing red now, standing up without realizing why, ready to yank Yeager away from you, when the doorbell rings again. It stops Jean in his tracks. “That must be Marco,” Sasha reminds, looking up from the games to glance at Jean with confusion. “Aren’t you gonna go get that?”
“Y-yeah. I’ll be right back.” Jean locks eyes with you as he leaves the room, and you dejectedly sigh, leaning away from Eren. It’s no fun to mess around with another guy if Jean’s not there to see.
He guides Marco into the living room, and you greet him with a quick smile before giving your full attention back to Eren.
The next few hours are fun for you, and unbearable for Jean. Every time he spared a glance to you, you were pouring over Eren, asking questions about the game and insisting on clarification, leaning in much too close and supporting yourself on his shoulder as he explained another trivial rule to you.
Jean didn’t like any of it, not the way you laughed sweetly and played with your hair while talking to Eren, not the way your legs were on display and Eren’s sleazy hands kept finding its way back to them, none of it. What he couldn’t stand, though, was how you didn’t shy away from his touch and found any and every way to keep it going.
He’s at his limit when you go to your bedroom after dinner to change into pajamas, knowing what to expect from your nightwear. If he’s lucky, you’ll pick a big t-shirt and shorts, but he’s seen first-hand the silky slips and cotton sets you prefer to sleep in.
Jean doesn’t think he can handle the look on Eren’s face if you come down the stairs wearing one of those, so he lets his anger do the thinking for a minute when the others are fighting over snacks and who gets the couch versus the floor.
Eren’s waiting near the bottom of the stairs, looking at something on his phone when Jean approaches and glances quickly to make sure you’re still in your room.
“You better knock it off, Yeager, I’m serious,” he says, trying to contain his anger and keep his voice down. His words come out in a low grumble that he barely recognizes, body stiff and trying his best to intimidate Eren. It doesn’t seem to be working. “Knock off what?” Eren questions nonchalantly, amused that his suspicions were proving to be correct. Looks like Jean had a little thing for his step-sister after all.
Jean’s eyes unwittingly flit to the top of the stairs again, before he forces his gaze back to Eren, but the quick gesture isn’t missed by his so-called friend.
“Oh, I see. You want me to stop being so buddy-buddy with your step-sister, huh? You better tell that to her first, you know. She’s been all over me since the minute I met her.”
The sly smirk playing on his lips only makes Jean want to cave his face in all the more.
“You better watch it, you son of a-” Eren clicks his tongue to interrupt Jean.
“Come on now, Jean, you can’t really expect me to stop. I mean, it’s not like she’s my sister, right?” Eren says, with a strange look in his eyes as though he was tempting Jean to blow his cover.
Eren walks away to rejoin everyone in the living room, leaving Jean seething by the stairs and you in your bedroom, pressed against the door and clinging onto every word.
All night you had known Jean was getting agitated by your constant flirting and touchiness with Eren, but he hadn’t been close to cracking, or so it seemed. The fact that he even confronted Eren had your heart pounding in your chest, wondering if tonight might finally be the chance you had been waiting for. You hear Jean’s heavy foot steps walk away, and you decide that it’s all or nothing, now.
You leave your room and close the door gently, dressed in a pink camisole and shorts that were sure to get Eren’s attention for long enough for Jean to finally crack.
Just as you began the descent down the stairs, you heard footsteps coming back and were greeted with Jean at the foot of the stairs.
The look in his eyes was something you hadn’t seen before, something entirely different from the reserved, hesitant Jean you had gotten so used to.
No, this Jean was someone else, a mix of want and desire and shame pooling in his pretty eyes, looking at you as though you were the prey he had finally cornered.
Before you know it, Jean is in your bedroom and your back is pressed against the door roughly as his lips stay on yours and refuse to pull away. His tongue is hot in your mouth, and his hands feel as though they’re burning your skin with the heat they are radiating, groping your ass and the soft skin of your back as he explores your body. All the things he’d wanted to do for these last few months, that he’d forced himself to repress, finally coming out.
You moan into Jean’s mouth at the sudden feel of his hands on your tits, grabbing blindly and pinching your nipple roughly and suddenly, causing the moan to turn into a loud squeal. Jean clasps his free hand over your mouth.
“Shh, now,” he begins, staring into your eyes and making your core heat up uncomfortably as you realize your little challenge was finally over. You feel the wetness between your legs growing, pussy throbbing just at seeing Jean be so dominant for once. “We don't want anyone to hear, do we?”
You shake your head quickly to answer his question, having completely forgotten about the multiple guests just a floor away. You expect Jean to pull away, to tell you that he’ll take care of you after they’re all gone, some other time, but he doesn’t.
He pulls his hand away and leads two fingers to your mouth, guiding them into your willing mouth, latching your lips around them and sucking while swirling your tongue, getting them wet as he wanted.
“You know how long I’ve wanted this? Huh? Since the day I met you, that’s how long. And you’re such a fucking tease all the time, you know how unbearable it's been?” Jean says in a deep voice, his eyes observing your mouth continuing its work. You moan around his fingers, wanting to speak but no words come out.
He pulls his fingers away and leads them straight to your throbbing pussy, running one up and down your slit teasingly as you hold back a loud moan.
“P-please, Jean, please do something, I- oh!” Jean shoves the two digits into your tight hole without any warning at all, causing your whole body to shake at the sudden fullness.
“This is what you wanted, isn’t it, you dirty slut? You wanted your big brother to get fed up and fuck you senseless, didn’t you? Say it,” he orders, fingers pumping in and out and his hand grazing your clit with every motion, causing you to moan as your body tenses. You can hardly process his words because of the pleasure you’re feeling, but his other hand finding your throat brings you back quickly.
“Say it. I won’t ask again.”
“Y-yes, Jean, I-I wanted big brother to fuck me, oh, yes-” You lose your thoughts again as his pace increases, making you squeal again before you clamp your mouth shut to make sure no one hears you. Your stomach is tensing and you know you’re so, so close, one more touch from Jean would have your orgasm washing over you like lightening spreading through your body, when he suddenly stops.
You gasp loudly at the sudden emptiness, feeling your orgasm dissipate as you buck up and clamp down against nothing at all. Jean’s fingers are in his mouth, tasting your wetness as you try to catch your breath and protest against the way he’s teasing you, but your pleas are met by deaf ears.
“Jean,” you moan desperately, clinging to his shoulders, “please, please, let me cum, please-”
“No. Filthy sluts that mess around with their big brother’s friends don’t get to cum,” he says gruffly, as you whine again and try to release yourself from his tight grip. It’s useless since he has you caged in, firm hands on your waist dragging you to the bed and throwing you on top of the soft covers.
“Please, I promise I’ll be a good girl,” you plead, using your sweetest voice and big. teary eyes to win Jean over, but it’s still useless.
“I said no,” he repeats, hovering over you and his hands finding their way to the bottom of your camisole. He pulls the skimpy top off of you quickly, revealing your tits. Your nipples harden at the sudden cool air, and Jean’s fingers find them once again, pinching and teasing as you moan into your pillow, desperately bucking your hips up for contact between your legs, to no avail. His hot mouth finds your nipple, flicking with his tongue as his hand plays with the other, before he pulls away quickly.
You whine again at the loss of stimulation, before you see Jean pulling down the band of his grey sweatpants and leaning back against the headboard.
“Prove to me that you deserve big brother’s cock,” he says, revealing his hard dick as it snaps against his stomach. “With your mouth. Now.”
You don’t need to be told twice. You reposition yourself, ass in the air and head at Jean’s crotch as you stare at his pretty, pink cock with wide eyes. You’d expected him to be big, but not like this, though you don’t have time to dwell on it as he grips it firmly and taps the angry, pink tip against your lips.
You hang your tongue out, spit collecting and falling all over his length before you finally take as much as you can into your mouth, sucking and swirling as your hands move up and down the rest that you can’t take.
“Just like that-” Jean begins before breaking into a loud moan. You pop him out of your mouth and keep stroking with your hands as you whisper for him to shush.
“What happened to being quiet, and everyone downstairs will hear, and-” You’re interrupted as Jean grips his cock and shoves it back into your mouth, gagging suddenly at the unexpected movement.
Jean stares at your obedient mouth, following his instructions without any sign of the brat he was so used to. As you cup his balls in your hand, he feels them tighten and knows he’s not gonna last much longer like this. He guides your head away from his cock, admiring the drool and spit on your face and the glassy eyes he’s longed to see.
“Jean, I wanna-”
“I don’t care what you want, sweetheart,” he says, a false sweetness in his voice that’s making you feel dizzy. “You’re gonna ride me now, you got that?”
Jean’s hands are firmly set on your hips, positioning you just as he wants as you hover above his leaking cock. You grind down quickly, desperate for friction on your throbbing clit, before Jean stops your motions with the tight grip he has on you. “Are you gonna make me repeat myself?” he questions, in a tone that makes you positive that you don't want to make him angry. You shake your head immediately, taking his dick in your hand and lining it up with your wet hole, before slowly sinking down.
“Oh, god-!” you let out, before clasping a hand over your mouth. You had never felt quite so full before, the stretching burn making heat course through your whole body, as you bottom out and clench hard. “Come on, baby, you know how long you’ve been begging for this? Don’t get shy on me now,” Jean says, and you regain your senses slowly. You start moving, up and down, just like he wants and speeding up as you feel your cunt gush against Jean.
You’re sure to be making a mess, but you can hardly care when your brain feels so cloudy and distracted at how good Jean feels inside you, and you start the grinding movement again. Jean entertains you for a minute, before grabbing your hips even tighter, nearly at a bruising grip now, and snapping his own hips to thrust into you.
You’re blabbering now, utterly senseless as Jean fucks you mercilessly. You know you’re being loud, but you just don’t care, not when Jean is hitting that one spot inside you that has you seeing stars before you know it, your hands on his shoulders and holding on for life.
“Are you close, baby? Are you gonna cum all over your brother’s big cock?” Jean teases, feeling you clench down harder and knowing he won’t be able to hold on much longer either. “Yes, yes, yes! Jean! Oh, Jean-” you finally feel the tight coil in your stomach snap, unaware of your own movements and surroundings as you focus on the pleasure Jean’s giving you. You yell out, cumming so intensely and shaking on top of Jean, twitching once more when you hear Jean groan and feel hot ropes of cum inside you.
Your throat feels dry and scratchy, heart pounding as you come down from your high. You feel Jean’s grip, much softer now, lead you off of his cock and lay you next to him on the bed. It’s a mess, and you don’t know how you’ll clean up with everyone downstairs and surely they’ve noticed you’re both still gone-but you still don’t care.
All you care about is the sound of Jean’s heart beat from your position on his chest, and the way his hands feel on your skin as he holds you close to his warm body.
“So,” he starts off quietly, “was it how you’ve been imagining it all this time?” You’re not looking at him, but you know he’s smiling.
“Mmh,” you hum contentedly, “even better.” You feel his body rumble with a laugh, and his hand reaches to cup your face and lean into you for a kiss. Just as your lips meet, you hear a sharp knock at the door.
“Might wanna hurry up, you two,” Eren calls out from the other side of the door. “The others are getting suspicious.”

Note
I grew up reading your TT fanfics and always find myself going back to them, even years and years later! So first off, thank you for giving me the Raven content I needed when the series was suddenly cancelled 😊 I was curious what romance novels would you recommend? Trashy, feel-good, fun, naughty — anything goes!
Oh. Oh, friend. You do not want to go down that rabbit hole with me. I read, on average, between 4 - 7 romance books a month.
But, since you asked...
Dragonkin Series from G A Aiken - if you like hot and horny and sarcastically witty dragon shifters. Plus, her world building is so good. Like yes, the romance is top-notch, but also the fantasy story she weaves is so intriguing and it's by far one of my favorite fantasy stories, but with real, genuine porn in it too.
Anything from Presley Hall - she writes mostly alien/sci-fi romance. She has... three series now? They all take place kind of in the same universe, but I'm very fond of her Voxeran stories. I'm waiting for the next one to come out.
Fire's Edge and Inferno Rising from Abigail Owen. It's kind of a long series about familial groups of dragon shifters.
Ice Planet Barbarians from Ruby Dixon. I'm pretty sure I was drunk when I bought the first book because the title is ridiculous, but I ended up devouring most of the series (before my free trial of Kindle Unlimited ended). Her writing really develops between each books in the series, and she's got a few other stand-alone books in the same universe that are just great.
Cara Bristol has a few series she writes. They're pretty quick, easy reads, and you enjoy the time spent with the characters. They're not blow you out of the water, but they're genuinely enjoyable.
Nadine Mutas has a witches series that feels a bit like I'm reading a New Adult novel. It's cute and fun, and easy to get into. I think I read the whole series in a week. To Seduce a Witch's Heart was just fun, and silly at times.
Bec McMaster has a few series that are really quite good. There's a sort of steampunk, high-society, Victorian series with werewolves that's my favorite. And a gaslight magic one that's top-notch. I really enjoyed reading her work.
Dark Protector series from Rebecca Zanetti. It's a solid modern vampire series.
Soulless by Gail Carriger. Technically more of a steampunk book and less of a romance, but it's such a great novel with great tension between the the two main characters that it's just one of my favorites.
Nalini Singh's Archangels series is great. Also not really a romance as much as a series of books that circle the contention between Archangels and Humans, but still quite good.
Red Phoenix's Brie and the Art of Submission is just ridiculous and over the top, but I think it was one of the first erotica series I read that I just genuinely kind of enjoyed. It's not great and sometimes it's just dumb, but it's actually very sexy and fun.
And I used to read a ton of Christine Feehan (I'm a fan of her Dark series, with the Carpathian Vampires), and Gena Showalter.
I’m currently reading some kind of good, but bordering on ridiculous Steampunk romance right now called Iron Dominance, by Cari Silverwood. Will I read the other books? I don’t know. But this book is not bad.
I also love a good regency bodice ripper, but they all kinda tend to be about the same for me. Enjoyable, and a fun way to pass the time, but there isn't any that stand out right away as the best book I've ever read.
This is by no means an exhaustive list. I've been reading romance books for a solid twenty years, and there are also a ton of books that I just genuinely enjoyed reading, but might not have been anything that stuck with me in my head for very long. I was trying to go through my Kindle and Hoopla and Overdrive to see if any of them sparked a memory, but they really didn't. Ultimately, I'll give anything a chance for about 50 - 100 pages. And there have been some great books that I read once, and never really thought about after.
There have also been some terrible mishaps.

Completely imersed in the pile of books you gathered in the library in order to try and understand more about potions, you get startled when a boy throws himself into the chair next to you, a yellow stripped tie hitting your head in the process.
"I'll give you 20 bucks if you kiss me."
"What? No!", you give him a disgusted and confused look before digging your head into the old dusty pages again.
"Come on!! Angela keeps coming to me trying to snuggle and kiss me and-", as dramatic as he is, Hyunjin pretends he is going to be sick, exaggerating on the nasty sounds way too close to your ear.
"What? Why?", your bestfriend finally caught your full attention as you turn to face him, "Wait, Angela as in like, Angela your major crush perfect-Angela? Weren't you supposed to like, I don't know, enjoy the attention?" But then the face he makes, his cheeks turning shades of pink as his gaze drifts away from you and he sinks down in his chair in embarrassment, realization hits you, "No! No you did not! Are you like what, dumb?", you flick is head inducing a loud squeal to come out his mouth.
"It was Jeongin's idea!", his voice three pitches higher than before, "And I can't be that dumb if I managed to make that stupid love potion work. But that's beside the point, will you do it or not?"
"Do what? Kiss you? And how will that help you dimwit?", you went to flick his head again because, to be fair, he deserved it, but Hyunjin knew you too well and held your hand in time to stop you from hurting his pretty face, as he likes to state.
"To break the curse! Make her give up on me by making her think we're together or something!"
"What curse? There is no curse! And she isn't even thinking right now, she might just kill me out of jealousy!", at this point you're pratically yelling at each other and are forced to leave the library, resuming this odd conversation on your way to Ravenclaw's common room.
"I still can't believe you let yourself go with what Jeongin tells you. He's evil you know?"
"Should've guessed by the green scarf huh?", you slap his arm lightly, not very fond of the jokes made regarding the fact your other best friend is a Slytherin.
"So, how do I solve this?", he basically pleas at you as you sit down on the desk next to the fireplace, as far away as possible from your housemates. Every two in three students has made, or attempted to make, some sort of potion or spell to have something in their advantage. However, amortentia wasn't just "some potion", and if some were to find out that Hwang - head in space - Hyunjin succeded at his attempt they would never leave his poor ass alone, so for now your plan was to keep this subject as low-key as possible.
"Marry her." you say nonchalantly while, without his knowledge, already looking up all about amortentia, its possible side effects and how long it would take to wear off - if ever-, receiving a whine in return.
"It was really fun at first, you know? The flirting was cute, the smooches were great," and boy he put some emphasis on that adjective,"but now it's like she's obsessed with me! She's clingy and talks with that annoying voice and I can't seem to get rid of her!" Hyunjin throws himself face down into the old couch and whines again, words muffled by the pillow where he burried his face. "She's probably standing right outside the door just now!"
"Wait, what do you mean it was fun at first? How long has this been going on Hwang Hyunjin? And why am I only knowing of this now?", you turn around in your chair way too fast, hitting with your knee on the other chair next to you before facing the mop of brown hair all spread around the blue pillow.
"Well, I barely ever saw you all week!", the boy turns his head just the minimum amount to look at you, "You're either with your nose buried in those old books, or with your hands all over Lee Minho! Not my fault you no longer have time for your friends..."
"First of all," you pull out the pillow he's laying on, his face falling on the black cushion as a few curses leave his lips, "lower your tone! I did not spend the week with my hands all over Minho, I am tutoring him in potions!"
"Which you're not that good at, that's why you walk everywhere with those fat books..." Hyunjin rolls his eyes at you as he recovers the pillow from your hands again, "Don't deny it (y/n), you've got the hots for him!"
"Oh sweetie, I sense jealousy in your tone... is that why you gave Angela a poorly made potion?", you show him the page you've been reading between the backs and forths of your not so relevent argument, only for him to realize the potion should've worn off two days ago. Instead, it only got worse. "Perhaps you could use some reading too huh?"
The boy rips the book from your hands, grunting between his teeth sounds you doubted to be words as he makes his way out, only to shut the door as soon as he opens it, squealing loudly when his eyes meet the ones from the Gryffindor's brunette standing right in the middle of the hallway.
"I'm telling you (y/n), she won't leave me alone! It's like she's obsessed!", Hyunjin keeps his back against the door, afraid the girl could open it by some miracle driven by her potion induced feelings, hence she doesn't have the password.
"Well, you see Hyunjin... that's because she is! And it's your fault, you should simply face it..."
"Oh I'm going the kill Jeongin...", the boy grunts ignoring your words completely as the whines coming from the other side of the door overlapped them, "Can you go get him? Or get rid of her?"
You make your way to the door Hyunjin refuses to unblock and, when words and pushes didn't make the tall boy move, you had to resort to your wand, although the simple threat was more than enough for him to make way for you. He stayed hidden in the corner as you parted the door slightly to tell the girl her beloved had disapparated from there, and she should probably look at the quidditch court. The fact she believed you only proved how strongly she was affected by the potion, since everyone knew Hyunjin would never go to a sports court by his free will and disapparating into and out Hogwarts wasn't possible at all.
As soon as the path got clear you both made your way to the shrieking shack through the whomping willow everyone was so afraid of, but that was exactly why the three of you claimed it as your secret meeting place.
Jeongin was already waiting as you sent him a message through your magic notepad when you got rid of Angela, and you had to secure Hyunjin to not throw the book at the Slytherin boy who only laughed in return. The laughter didn't last long though, because you only stopped Hyunjin so you would be the one scolding the younger one, flicking his head the same way you did to the lover boy earlier.
"Hey! What did you do that for?", the boy frowned at you rubbing his forehead.
"To bring you back to reality, so you can both fix the mess you made!"
"But what's the problem?" Jeongin looked at you with honest confusion on his face, "Is this about the potion? You know that thing wears off in like a week or so right?"
"Exactly... do the math now genius..." Hyunjin rolls his eyes before leaning his back against the spiderweb covered walls.
The three of you spent the whole afternoon trying to figure out what went wrong in the first place, you analyzing every single detail of the procedure, and the boys trying to recreate every step they took to reach the final product. But, after hours of research and theories nothing seemed to have gone wrong, well except for the exaggerated and long-lasting effect of the potion.
"We should just obliviate the poor girl..." suggested Jeongin at one point, head in his hands as a sing of withdrawal.
“I don’t think that’s legal, but we can work around it...” You agree with him closing the book you were now reading for the fifth time.
"Are you guys serious? Because that sounds great! Can we get away with it?" Hyunjin's eyes were sparkling in hope as he shifted in his seat to a more straight up position, ready to do whatever it took to get to walk in peace around the school, without being unexpectedly smooched in the cheek and squezeed into a hug every time the girl spotted him.
"No, it's a joke!" You both sigh at your friend's desperation before calling it a day, deciding to resume your research first thing in the morning.
As per usual, you met with the boys for breakfast at the dining hall, though this time they weren't alone and you couldn't help out a giggle when Angela, as glued to Hyunjin as possible while feeding him something funny looking with a spoon, winked at you as soon as you sat in front of her and next to Jeongin. The latter looked almost as horrified as the pampered boy, and you had to focus to try and keep yourself from bursting into laughter before the scene that was unfolding in front of you.
Hyunjin looked like an annoyed pouty baby slumped in his chair - as an attempt to go unnoticed -, while the smiley girl, - one that seemed to have way too much energy in the morning -, pulled some strands of the boy's hair behind his ear before kissing his cheek, "You're so pretty Hyunnie-jin, and I hate to leave you," the girl pouts as she pinches his cheeks rather aggressively, "but don't worry sugarplum, I'll be waiting for you in the astronomy tower when you leave class." This time the kiss is aimed at his lips, but Hyunjin antecipates her intentions and dodges his head with a slick move, just not fast enough to be fully free of her, ending up with her lips awkwardly attached half to his jaw, half to the corner of his lip.
"So you decided to give in?" You couldn't help the grin that was forming on your face, finding it hilarious how the universe always had a way to keep things balanced.
"Shut up. I had to if I didn't want to starve myself, it was one sacrafice I was willing to take." Hyunjin furiously rubs his face with a napkin, as if it would erase the memory of the previous demonstration of affection.
"I say it's the karma, you were basically playing and manipulating her the moment you gave her the potion, now you face the consequences."
"It's like she's taking revenge..." Jeongin mumbles more to himself than to his friends, but he was still heard, and had now two pairs of eyes locked on him waiting for a further explanation to what seemed to be a pretty plausable theory. "We already concluded we didn't do anything wrong, right?"
"Yes, it's still hard to believe though..." you take a sip of your pumpking juice with a raise eybrow, honestly still impressed at how they pulled that off.
"So what if she got aware that Hyunjin gave-"
"We, Jeongin, we!! This wasn't just me okay? I just got the, uh, benefits?"
"Ok, sure, whatever... What if she became aware that we," emphasis on the pronoun as he glanced at Hyunjin, "gave her a potion and now that it wore off she is pulling this act as a pay back? Because, according to our lover boy, if it was nice at first then why would she suddenly start acting all obsessively?"
Both you and Hyunjin took a moment to reflect on this new theory, one Jeongin was really proud of as showed by his smug grin when he crossed his arms and relaxed back in his chair.
"I hate to admit it, but that makes a lot of sense... and explains why she winked at me when I got here..."
"Okay yes, she is faking it... why else would she wink at (y/n) when I'm the one she's supposed to be focused on?", the boy threw his arms up with a questionting - and slightly offended - look.
"Time for confrontation!" you were already standing up with Hyunjin following the lead, but you held yourselves back when you realized Jeongin wasn't moving, looking between the both of you still grinning.
"I've got a better idea..."
It was a terrible idea, you thought, and wanted no part in it at all so you let the boys discuss the details while you just sat there judging their poor life decisions.
The plan was for Hyunjin, instead of confronting her and get it over with as you suggested, to play along as if he too was deeply in love with her, and see who would break out of character first. As much as you tried to explain how childish and stupid the plan was, the boys simply wouldn't listen to you, convinced this was the best idea they've ever had.
Hyunjin got oddly excited about this and ran to astronomy class, already antecipating the act he would pull off when he'd see the girl waiting for him at the bottom of the stairs when he'd get out, leaving you and Jeongin alone in the dining all. The contrast of your opinions on this was pretty clear in your faces, Jeongin laughing loudly, you furrowing your brows and shaking your head in disapproval.
Then, all of a sudden, the boy stops laughing and looks at you, "What if they actually end up falling in love after all this?"
He sounded seriously concerned yet amused at the same time, while you only rolled your eyes at him before collecting your books and leaving for class as well.
"Shut up, this isn't a wattpad fanfic."

some gintama fic recs:
some gintama fics from my ao3 bookmarks that i would like to yell about. a fair amount of these are oneshots that i'm very fond of, but every now and then a multi-chapter might pop up. one or two are hosted on ffnet! mostly gen, with some character pairings! they vary ahaha
i confess that my deepest affections lie often with yorozuya and shoka sonjuku/joui4 fics, with ventures into otose and her extended family, and that i may love gintoki too much, so my fic recs lean in that direction!
Needs More Bombs by Sinnatious — [gen] this one is a 259 word oneshot about zura (and bombs) and that's really all it is, ahaha
Thieves, Like Books, Should Not Be Judged By Their Covers by katjedi — [gintsu] a gintsu genderbend in a fantasy world!!!! to quote the tags, "Friendship! Effort! Victory!" ginko is very cute <3
Report on Incident No. 235908 Involving Vessel NKMA-01 by Yamazaki Sagaru (Age 32) by Apathy, saltedpin — [gen, a little bit of yamazaki > tama, but tama's emotions are rather ambiguous yknow] oh darn i dont quite know how else to describe this except that it feels Just like an episode, JUST like an early?middle? gintama kind of episode with silly shenanigans and the characters all being superbly dumb and aagh i laughed so much!!!!
the familiar and the great unknown by guycecil — [takagin, zuragin, sakagin, sakataka] wkkwidioqodjkajda i was delivered many heartbroken emotions by this joui4 era fic. the entire series aches, i love this author so much, but this particular gin-centric installation gives me especially melancholic emotions.
Afterlife is a country you don't need a visa for by MilwaukeeMeg — [gen] an alternate universe where shinpachi and kagura die before they ever meet gintoki (once again gintoki gets to see ghosts,,) BUT that certainly won't stop them from becoming beloved yorozuya fam <3
The 'Bottle' in 'Spin the Bottle' Is Surely A Euphemism For Alcohol by StarryDustandFluffyStuff — [zurataka, zuragin, sakagin, sakataka, sakazura] the plot is "sakamoto kisses anyone he wants" and it's an absolutely excellent plot, very very good, i support sakamoto's endeavours wholeheartedly. to quote the tags, silly and fun, with a dash of angst!! i very much like the sakamoto voice too!
you/him by ijustwanttodestroy — [takagin] as the tags say, there is Angst, there is Romance, there is Character Study (my goodness there is character study) the way the words flow in this makes me press my hands to my face and gasp. second person pov that makes me cry,,,
the lonely thief by Official_Biscuit_Moron — [gen] okay okay okay this is wonderful and wonderful and introspective and catherine-centric (stinky cat woman <3) biscuit's writing is soft and subtle and evocative, i never felt quite so deeply for catherine until This, there is so much love in the writing!!! aaaaghg gh
It's a Hard Knock Life by Linderosse — [gen] joui3,,, babies,,, modern au,,, some fluff some angst some emotional hurt and comfort, i really really like the characterisation of their childhood selves (like? a very strong sense of voice?) and the prose! the prose is so gentle, the atmosphere like? a sweet vague wash of emotion? (hm i'm sorry for being so inconcise with my descriptions and also my recommendations in general ahaha) this is part of a series, and the next part of the series is equally wonderful and perhaps delivers even more heartache (tempered with fluff,,)
they say the devil you know is better than the one you don't, but sometimes both devils are you and what are you supposed to do then, huh? by parangari — [gen] this one is kagura-centric oh Frick i don't know what else to say about this but? kagura stream of consciousness?? second person pov??? every word exudes emotion and the kagura voice rattles in my bones and the gintoki and the shinpachi you glimpse through kagura's voice are so very very Them i guess what i mean is aah i think it's superbly in-character!!!
When in Doubt, Shout by InfiniteInMystery — [sakagin, hijigin, hm, but mostly, Adventure, i think] in-progress multi-chapter gintama skyrim au!! there was a dragon at the start and it was cool, and i just think it is very neat! also the relationship between otose and gintoki in this is very sweet,,
ghost— by kapteeni — [gen] a series technically not a fic but series most certainly count too and this one made me cry and left an ache in my chest (an important criteria) worldbuilding is amazing and so is characterisation and relationships and everything, i remember reading this all in one go and afterwards i had lost my sense of self and was floating in a void of strange awe and euphoria and wistful wistful emotions <3 <3 <3 kapteeni wrenched my soul out of my body and i was grateful beyond words
The Most Important Things are Sometimes the Stupidest by dearfriendicanfly — [konhiji] kqoaifikqkakdjkakdjjajs i like it very much Nice Pacing Nice Characterisation Nice Yeah
funeral casket for my childhood by perennials — [kagunobu] i know perennials' gintama works as Tried and True Breakers of My Heart , this one was especially devastating to me, the title has haunted me for years, i feel so much melancholy at the ending
Tiger Mom by gettinyinggywithit — [gen] a little hint of gintsu, but mostly, it is about tsukuyo learning to be gentle when it was not what she was taught, and the prose is? smooth?? silk smooth? smooth like still water???
You and me and the Devil makes three by saveusmilkboy — [gen] this joui war fic buried itself into my soul it has nine chapters on ao3 and for the first few chapters the formatting has the paragraphs squashed together, i read it first on fanfiction.net and it is perhaps the single one first person pov oc fic that i have adored, i love mikkun, and more than that, i think how the author delves into the feeling of a war? it feels so grounded,, and outsider pov on the joui!! so much character building going on!! gintoki says cool speeches! zura sings "ma'am i'd like to fuck"!
Cradle Song by iphido — [ayano/tatsugoro, gen] cw: miscarriage. gorgeously written thoughtful piece about otose and motherhood. there is so much care in the writing, and iphido writes relationships that exude so much love, my goodness
If Love is in the Air, it's Time You Started Thinking About Getting an Air Conditioner — by Official_Biscuit_Moron — [kintoki/gintoki] ahahahaha biscuit is immensely talented at writing things that exude the ridiculous shenanigans of gintama daily life and this is Just One Of Them i will not say anything else except please read this kintoki goes through many ordeals and the dialogue is impeccably funny and sacchan is there!!!!!
What to Do About Tomorrow by Shirokokuro — [gen] shirokokuro's shoyo&gintoki centric content reaches right into my ribcage and wraps tenderly around my heart, it brings me SO much delight, so much affection, i love shiro's writing so much, vivid wonderful prose, settings and descriptions that make me feel like i am under sunlight and photosynthesising, dialogue and scenes that flow so smoothly and organically, i have So many words. now i will write words about the fic itself: wtdat is the multi-chapter shoyo-gin timeloop fic that my heart has always yearned for, aghgggh. the epitome of found family content, and you know what while i am at it, i would like to usher to the front the rest of shiro's gintama works, Alpenglow and An Armful of Azaleas because they are sweet and lovely and i love them

YGO Questionnaire Part 2 Electric Boogaloo
So, my gf/bf @howaboutalittlehelpneos tagged me to do this again a... good long while ago, and I had wanted to wait until I'd finished my GX rewatch before trying this again. But ouch oof I accidentally also got through all of 5Ds again before getting to this lol
But the 5Ds rewatch definitely reshaped a lot of my thoughts, so... cracks knuckles. This won't be spoiler free, fair warning~
Favorite Series: ugh the formatting killed my original essay on this but okay GX and 5Ds are pretty tied in my book, now-- I love them equally, but in different ways! GX fulfills my love for subversive coming-of-age stories with a heartwarming, humorous, and also soulcrushing touch, and I love how each season brings a new story and new characters-- it's like reading installments of a novel series, and I think the formatting works wonders for it as a whole. It has some absolutely phenomenal character writing, too-- even the characters I dislike are ones I can appreciate for what they introduce to the story! And honestly, not enough people give the first two seasons of GX the credit it deserves: they're half the charm, really. How are you going to feel the full impact of the heartbreaking content in seasons 3 and 4 if you aren't properly attached to the characters?
But on 5Ds's side of things... it fulfills my love for stories with time loops, found family, human nature, and of course, love and death and how they intertwine. I love how the leading characters are just a bunch of broken kids from broken circumstances who all find a home with each other, and of course, how it highlights class disparity and how fucked up the prison/"justice" systems are. Yea, sure, maybe it underwent executive meddling and all, but I genuinely love it for what it is and I wish more people appreciated it... my only problem with 5Ds is the untwist with Z-ONE and then the ending s m h I adore it overall and I could go off for a long while on it. Overall, these are my two instinctive recommendations for anyone getting into Yugioh!
Tumblr media
(look at these boys they're so important) Favorite Protagonist: Oh, believe me, absolutely nothing has changed here-- Yusei Fudo is and always will be my favorite protagonist, and my rewatch only solidified that.
Tumblr media
I just... love him so much? He's seen so much hell in his life and carries so much guilt on his shoulders, but he still has room in his heart to believe in others and to believe that anyone can defy fate and find hope even at rock bottom. I love that he's initially introduced as this quiet, brooding figure when he really just turns out to be a huge softie who wears his heart on his sleeve half the time and wants to bring about change for Satellite and its people. Plus I just really love that his greatest flaw is something that would ordinarily be a positive trait-- he's Overly self-sacrificial, to the point where he's basically setting himself on fire to keep others warm, and that's not really framed as something Heroic
Just... he makes me so happy. I have two Yusei charms that I ordinarily keep on my keys (one was a gift from Zenzen) and they're a constant source of serotonin for me. He's Peak comfort character for me. Best protag in my book Favorite Rival: Same deal here-- still Manjoume!

look at him he's so important
While he spends a lot of the anime getting the good old damsel in distress treatment (getting suckered into a cult, getting knocked into a coma, becoming a zombie, getting fucking Killed, etc), I still think his character arc is really well-written overall and I only appreciated it even more when I watched GX again. I love the fact that he's got a soft heart he buries beneath the edgy facade, and that he's simultaneously really sharp and also kind of dense lol. He's just a fun character and watching how he evolves from episode one to episode one hundred eighty is such a satisfying journey.
Plus, props to him for being such a versatile duelist-- 50 wins in a row is HARD as is, let alone with a deck full of cards he just found laying around in the Arctic. Three ace monsters, three different archetypes... he's a really good duelist and I'm proud of him for it
Oh, but honestly, I don't really dislike any of the rivals-- I'm neutral towards Revolver and Reiji, but the remaining four (Kaiba, Manjoume, Jack, and Shark) compel me. yes I accidentally wound up liking Jack Atlas shhh Favorite BFF: Honestly, I really like most of the characters who fit this archetype-- Joey, Crow, Gongenzaka, Soulburner... I still lean a little bit more towards Joey, but I really appreciate all four of them. I'm gonna say Joey again, just because I find his evolution as a character the most compelling, but I appreciate the other three a lot. Soulburner has the best design though Favorite GFF: Oh absolutely still Aki, but I honestly... really love most female Yugioh characters? I'm assuming this is lead girls only, but like. I'm dumb and gay and I love Girls so this is naturally the most difficult one for me to answer lol
Aki just resonates with me the most because she's the prime example of how trauma doesn't always manifest in palatable ways-- when we first meet her, she's angry and lashes out at anyone and anything just because she wants the world to suffer in the same ways she's suffered, and then... we get to watch her grow from that, once she's free from Divine and able to heal the way she needs to heal. I know the second half of 5Ds didn't give her character the attention it deserved, but I'm still proud of her for winding up on the path she did-- seeing her channel her power and energy into wanting to heal and help others was just so good and was one of the few things I really Loved about the 5Ds ending.

oh, but like. Asuka Tenjoin and Aoi Zaizen are very close seconds for me!!! Aki just has a vice grip on my heart Favorite Villain: Okay, it's still technically Vector-- I think he's the most entertaining, well-written, and effective villain out of all of the ones we've seen so far, but... I also want to add Takuma Saiou and then all of Yliaster as honorable mentions?
As someone fond of tarot myself, I was naturally pretty intrigued by Saiou the first time I watched GX, but my attachment to him only grew the second time around where I actually got the chance to understand his character better. Plus, like... the visuals with him are fucking astounding and he's always so interesting to watch.
As for Yliaster, I just... really love how the big bad of 5Ds turned out to just essentially be a broken man desperate to save anyone and anything and three robotic reconstructions of the friends he'd lost. I still think the untwist with Z-ONE was stupid and I much prefer the idea of him and Yusei being the same person, but I'm still compelled by the other three-- well. Paradox less so, because we don't get a lot of Paradox lore, but. Aporia and Antinomy for sure.
ugh Yugioh has some damn good villains
Favorite Card: now that I actually play the TCG game...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stardust is always going to be my favorite of all cards because it checks every box for me (my favorite YGO character's ace monster, space theme, what more could I want), but Aromaseraphy Rosemary has really become one of my aces in my best TCG deck! I'm still mastering irl plays, but I'm happy with my progress and I love my plant gang...
Favorite Episode: alright, here's where there's actually been a Lot of change, so...
Season 0: Episode 16: "Turnabout by a Hair's Breadth - The White-Robed Crisis" -- The more I think about this one, the more I love it; there's a... lot of corruption in the medical industry, and I've seen a lot of it firsthand, so just. Seeing a corrupt doctor get what he deserved at the end was cathartic, in a way? Plus, a Jounouchi-centric episode is always a good time.
Duel Monsters: Episodes 96-97: "Darkness vs. Darkness/One Turn Kill" -- this hasn't changed, I still love seeing Marik and Bakura bitch at each other for two whole episodes LMAO
GX: Episode 152: "Activate Super-Fusion! Rainbow Neos" -- This one hasn't changed and it likely never will-- I take so much pride in seeing Judai push forward, past the fear and guilt he's carrying, all to save Johan... it's cathartic and I never get sick of watching it.
5Ds: sweats. still all of Crash Town, but also episodes 137-147-- the Ark Cradle is one of my favorite parts of 5Ds and one of my favorite YGO arcs period, and even though each duel is a fucking gut punch, I love the emotional intensity and weight in each episode... It hurts but in a mostly good way
Zexal: Episode 143: "The Aloof Duelist 'Nasch': The Destined Final Duel" -- this one hasn't changed! Still hurts, still love it, I still weep over Ryouga Shark Kamishiro on a daily basis
Arc-V: Episodes 81-82: "Our Respective Battlefields/The Ultimate Falcon VS The Black-Feathered Thunder" -- Okay, honestly, this was hard because I... genuinely. really don't like Arc-V very much at all lol (it's just not my cup of tea, but more power to those who do like it!), but I thought this duel was a lot of fun! Shun is my absolute favorite from Arc-V and I really like the friendship he struck up with Crow a lot, so here we are
VRAINS (so far): Episode 25-26: "Virus Deck Operation/Three Draws Leading to Hope" -- honestly I am so biased because I just really love Blue Angel and I loved seeing her get a well-deserved victory like this lol. I'm not done with VRAINS, so this is probably gonna change, but anytime Blue Angel or Soulburner are on screen, I'm happy
Favorite Decks to Use: Aromages will always have my heart, but I adore Cyber Angels too! I'm building my Trickstar deck, my Synchron/Stardust deck (just waiting on Dawn of Majesty...), and my Magician Girls deck, too! Fusion, Ritual, Synchro, XYZ, Pendulum, or Link?: Synchros my beloved... but also Ritual Years in fandom: I've been here for just a little over one year now! and I wuv it... I'm never looking back Who am I tagging: no one I'm too shy
