Worm Arc 7 thoughts (I probably should have done this as two posts but I didn't):

Seriously, look at how my wonderful daughter takes the steps to communicate with Rachel in the way that works for Rachel.

And then look at how Rachel reaches back to do the same thing!!! AHHHHH!!!!!!

Taylor needs to take a longer rest and should not be sparing Brian the morning after the gala attack, but she quickly loses the opportunity to take a rest so whatever I guess.

Alec backstory! His father is fucking horrible oh my god. Kill him with fire.

WOLFSPIDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my god the fucking suit made of bugs I was screaming. And then having it keep shape while crouching to make it seem like you turned into bugs? Having the bugs all make noise while you talked to make it sound super weird?! I'm in fucking love, look at how amazing my little girl is!

Taylor stabbed a Nazi. And later she stabbed another Nazi! I'm so proud.

The E88 list. Oh my god Coil, way to not think things through. (I mean, he probably thought it through and was ok with the outcome, but given that he wants the Undersiders on his team it doesn't seem like the best action to take.)

And the fucking drugged 12 year old Coil keeps in his bunker to run probability numbers for him? I wasn't expecting him to be good but god damn he turned really fucking evil really quickly.

Grue kneecapped a Nazi and I'm so proud of him. Remember, every time you kneecap a Nazi an angel gets its wings.

Lots of interesting powers on E88 (Night, Hookwolf). Too bad they chose to be Nazis instead of something cool. I hope Hookwolf get's melted down to slag. (Stormtiger's power, costume, and name feels directly out of 80's comics and I'm here for it.)

Did I mention the wolfspider moments? Taylor got her lunch! And then Rachel gave Taylor the good fetch toy so she could play fetch the the doggos. And the worked together to save the one dogs life! WOLFSPIDER!

Shit got awkward with Brian.

I hope Sophia gets hit by a bus that crashes into another bus. In a volcano.

If Angelica doesn't recover I'm burning down at least 5 Nazis. I think that's fair.

I'm sad that babies are fighting even though I get why Taylor is doing what she is. Being a villain is hard.

And we end with an Endbringer showing up which kinda makes everything else seem small fries.

Interlude thoughts - I like getting to see Miss Militia's backstory. I wish she wasn't "Guns and America the hero" because I actually think her personality and the way her powers work beyond the making guns part is pretty neat. Also she remembers what getting her powers was like which is super cool. Everyone gets a god piece I guess. I'm sure I'll learn more eventually.

More interlude thoughts - I love Dragon I wish they didn't run a prison so I could love them more. I love that she basically got through Poley the Polearm Man's "heavy security" in like negative 5 seconds. Anything to make him look bad. I will never like him, I refuse.

Dragon IK AU:

Im glad that you like the idea, it has been brewing in my head for a good while now. About Bailu, you dont need to know about her, what i meant is Bailu’s design is what i imagine Ik would look like with visible dragon traits. Just search up Bailu in google and see her design, it would somewhat fit Ik.

Now i originally imagine her to be a small bby dragon when she goes full dragon but i like the idea of Ik being able to be a BIG and little dragon because it would hilarious. Like the small human you’re trying to kill is suddenly a huge ass dragon, easily beat you up, then after beating you up, become a small little baby dragon. (Also do you know that small dragon zhongli merch plush? Yeah that’s small bby dragon Ik)

Now that you mention her powers that comes with being a chinese dragon, i feel like Levi would be the most helpful on trying to understand it. I dont think i mention this but Ik doesnt know she was half human and half dragon at all. All her life, she thought she was fully human, now she is actually a dragon with all these cool powers. But not everything comes easy the first time. Ik might have some crisis with the revelation she is a dragon (maybe??? I mean being an actual dragon that your home country worship isnt a small revelation). With Levi’s connection to the sea and such and also having Lotan, Levi can help Ik control her powers and Lotan can help with her getting used to her new form since hydra and chinese dragon are somewhat similar. (Also about the wish granting magic idea, maybe it’s best that Ik doesnt have that because Mammon would definitely use it to get more grimm or pay off his debts)

And about the god thing, wouldnt that make Ik a demigod? She’s half human from Zhao and half dragon from her mom, that’s essentially what a demigod is right? But tbh, i just see it like a half adeptus thing with Ganyu and Yanfei. Also the celestial realm… idk how they would feel with a demigod(?) being in devildom but what i do know it wouldnt be a pleasant one

ah, gotcha! i'm always a sucker for this specific kind of dragon horn, so definitely a fan of this design (though not sure how to feel about the fact that bailu apparently isn't a child and just looks like that)

i think levi would definitely be ik's main guide for figuring out her new dragon abilities! they'd go out on a trip to the sea and just spend ages playing around with the water (though ik's control isn't great, so sometimes she'll accidentally start summoning a tsunami and levi has to jump in to get things under control)

i definitely wouldn't use the god aspect of chinese in a literal sense, but the celestial realm hearing of a 'functional demigod' appearing in the devildom would probably be cause for alarm. unlike the angel hybrid au though, they've got no claim to her custody despite the divine heritage, so i guess they'd just have to stew in it until they think of something...

as for the brothers, levi of course is super hyped!! mammon is similarly so ("hell yeah we can go flying together now!!!"), while satan is reassessing his animal tier list because ik's little dragon form might actually be even cuter than a cat. asmo's delighted by both big and little forms, because the former is magnificent and he loves getting to help shine her scales, and of course the latter is adorable

belphie probably tries to get ik to conjure up storms so that they'll cancel school. he basically uses her little dragon form as a hot water bottle, and meanwhile beel likes getting flown about when she's in Big form because he's normally the one doing the carrying, so this is a breath of fresh air!

lucifer's probably the only one who even considers the celestial realm's thoughts on this, but ultimately he's like "who gives a shit what they think" and starts a little diary to keep track of ik's growth (which he's very proud of)

first time I'm being brave enough to play an ask game yayyy!!

🖍 I think I've pretty much liked drawing since I was a pretty young child to be honest? the first time I remember being really proud of something I drew though was when I drew a really cool looking dragon when I was nine and I took it into school to show my teacher lol

🐻 basically just whichever character I'm enjoying at the moment!! I definitely draw to destress so if my brain has a silly fun idea, those are the ones that make me the most happy and definitely bring me the most comfort <3 see for example; every time a muppet appears in my art haha

🦋 oooo interesting!!! I really don't know, I'd have to get someone else to compare! I'd say that, because I learned to draw portraits by studying photos of myself for school (we had to take our own ref photos) certain features definitely slip in haha. I definitely give characters my chin during sketching and have to change it so it actually looks like them

bonus: I started drawing glee fanart when I was 16!! this was the klaine/brittana drawing lol; there were probably more sketchy doodles over the years that are unfortunately lost because they didn't get put in folders or they're stuck on my old broken ipad. I was watching the show from the start all the way through for the first time and my brain was unlocking a new obsession so I guess I just wanted to be able to capture the characters well and find a way to express how excited I was about finding this new love!!! I posted it to tumblr and didn't expect it to get much attention because people assume nobody really cares about glee anymore, but it got some nice comments and I was very happy :) of course, I didn't properly get involved with glee art tumblr until this year and I wish I'd done it sooner!!!

I always give super long answers to things so I hope these aren't too much 😭💕

Time to break down the king of all Koopas! Bowser is a name everybody knows and fears, and when it comes to Super Mario Spikers, he's as menacing as ever. I don't have a whole ton to say about Bowser, but I'm certainly proud of the design and posing! Lemme tell you, Bowser is one of my hardest characters to draw, and if memory serves it took hours to get him just right. I'm definitely satisfied with the end result though. I think I nailed down his balance of strength and cockiness.

Bowser's shell is based on Giga Bowser's shell from the Smash Bros. series! I thought the unique pointy design would make for a great look here, and since this game is incredibly violent, why shouldn't Bowser take some cues from his fighting game appearance? As for the rest of Bowser's armor, it's based on his hardcore armor in Skylanders. Yeah, remember when he and DK appeared in that? Bet you didn't before I brought it up. Although the knee and arm pads were redesigned to be more like Koopa shells. Makes for a cool design overall!

If there's one thing I do regret, I kind of wish I gave his design a more black and red coloration. A lot of the sidekicks I drew with his emblem on it have black and red-colored outfits, making Bowser himself kind of an outlier. Ah well, at least his armor is black.

Bowser's Fire Roar attack is obviously based on his ability to breathe fire, but more specifically it's based on his captain ability in Mario Strikers Charged. Players running around aimlessly when they catch on fire is also inspired from this game. Koopa Dragon, on the other hand, is kind of just an original move. It's KIND OF based on MegaDragonBowser from Mario + Rabbids since they both have wings, but it's more of an indirect reference. He'd totally have his own design in this game though.

And that's about all I wanted to cover for Bowser. Shorter breakdown this time, but I just didn't have a ton to say. I think Bowser's one of those characters whose flexible enough to work without any specific references and inspirations. A lot of other characters tend to use gear or even weapons, and though Bowser has a few references like Giga Bowser's shell, he's definitely tough enough to hold his own.

Excuse me lads and lassies, I'm gonna ramble just a bit.

Gamera rebirth wasn't all that great in my opinion, but one thing that really kinda bugged me was Zigra's design.

Don't get me wrong, this is a nice design. I like it. And it's animated pretty well. But I find it way "too cool."

This Zigra is streamlined, competent, and muscular. But original Zigra...

Is a goofy armored goblin shark penguin. It's a fun and unique looking monster. It's silly sure, but it still manages to be pretty intimidating. Rebirth Zigra just kinda goes all out on the badassery, but that undermines the guy's charm.

I may be incredibly biased because I love goblin sharks, and og Zigra definitely got that goblin shark vibes, but I I like rebirth Zigra even though it drops the goblin shark vibes, my real problem is that there's not a lot separating it from the other bulky ass (with the exception of Gyaos) beasts in rebirth. It doesn't help that most fights all feel the same-ish either.Zigra is just kinda a basic big spiny, bulky, dragon thing.

It could've benefited from being a lot more fish like, less, sorta fishy armored lizard. Original Zigra has a lot of personality too. Its eyes kinda slanted making him look annoyed, or mad with everything. His stance when on land also feels kinda proud in a way. He's got his chest kinda puffed out, making him seem all the more intimidating but in a fun cocky sort of way. It's not realistic, sure. But why do giant monsters even gotta be super realistic now? Can't we have a big waddling space shark just cus that's fun?

This might've been all over the place, but I hope you got something from this silly women ramble.

My top 3 tags are: 1.) Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence 2.) Blood and Gore 3.) Happy Ending Which are very indicative of my writing style. I love canon divergence! I love scenes with a lot of blood, characters spilling a lot of blood, and characters covered in a lot of blood!! And most of all, I write fics to give people a happy ending!! I gotta give myself and the readers what canon won't! 😂 I love me a good "modern girl in..." trope, and a couple of the fics I'm working on are a "reincarnated into..." trope, so that's definitely a thing in my writing. If you can't find stuff that hits the spot, you gotta write it yourself!! But another recurring detail I have is the ocean motif; I love everything the ocean can represent in life (even though I don't live anywhere remotely close to the ocean, but you love it when you see it!), so it shows up quite a bit in my fics to represent life and death, letting go, the unknown, chaos and calm, all that good stuff. I love all the worldbuilding I've done in my Umbrella Academy fics, and I can't wait to work a bit more into the expansion with the one currently in progress. (Which I will get back to, I swear lol I just have a really bad habit of bouncing from one interest in a fic to another). I also love some of the worldbuilding I've done in my Hobbit/LotR fics, a lot of which is going to show up and come to fruition in Resistencia. I use a lot of fandom wikis for my research because as much as I say I don't care a whole lot about canon stuff, I always wind up looking over allllll the details to make things specific. Right now with my returning interest/motivation for my LotR fic, I've also basically had the Interactive Map of Middle-earth open at all times. My Hobbit/LotR fixation has hit back with a vengeance. I'm working on an angsty/romantic Valeria x Bilbo fic if Fili, Kili, and Thorin hadn't survived the Battle of the Five Armies. Because even though they're my fave brotp I've ever written, they'd make a good couple, damnit! I want to finish the fic before I publish it, so I'm not sure when it'll pop up, but it's happening! Aaaaaand I'm also working on a reincarnation into Middle-earth fic that I'm super fucking excited about bc it has a twist to it that reallllly hits a self-indulgent (but still fucking cool) spot of mine that I've had ruminating in my brain for years now. My Hobbit/LotR series is a pair of trusted running shoes, my definitely maybe series is a pair of deceptively sturdy high heels, my Dragon Age fic is a pair of knee-high boots with a hidden little knife inside, and my BNHA series is just bare feet bc that shit is always running wild in my mind.

Thoughts on the recent State of Play?

It was surprisingly good. A lot of announcements I found myself enjoying a lot. A quick rundown:

I still don't think Resident Evil 4 Remake is necessary, and the fact the game has spent so long in development hell, changing teams and whatnot, really proves that to me. Capcom needs to prove to me that this is going to be worth it, and the teaser doesn't do that. This is one game where 60fps looks wrong, too.

I am beginning to aggressively not care about Sony's Horizon series of games. I know they reviewed well and I'm sure they're fun and all, but there's something about their particular brand of... "prestige TV as a game" that rubs me the wrong way. Same reason I find myself not really caring about the new God of War or The Last of Us. The latest form of "what if games were more like [other media format]?"

Spider-man coming to PC is like, "finally!" But I'm becoming increasingly aware that my PC is showing its age and I don't have enough money to rebuild it any time soon, so new PC games are starting to feel like something I'm not going to care about anymore.

I'm really glad to see Stray. Funny story: there was a conversation I was having on Discord a couple days before State of Play, about games that I saw on social media years and years and years ago that disappeared, and one of them was this (Korean?) game where you play as a cat exploring Kowloon Walled City. That game became Stray! (and it's no longer set in Kowloon.) It vanished for like seven years before suddenly reappearing with a release date for next month. That's great. Deeply interested.

The Callisto Protocol isn't even trying to hide the fact it's basically Dead Space 4, by the creators of Dead Space, but under a different name. That's cool, I guess.

Rollerdrome is another one of those games like Stray where I saw it on Twitter years ago, it looked insanely rad, and then the dev went quiet. Now here it is again! Hopefully it turns out to be cool. I can see it sharing a lot of the problems with car combat games of olden times, where lining up shots while moving isn't necessarily super fun. But it's got my attention!

I share the sentiment that it's incredible what a turnaround Street Fighter 6 has made. I'm still not sure that the character models look great; everybody has weirdly pronounced cheekbones and I think it's trying to walk a line between realism and exaggeration that doesn't really land. Everybody looks really plastic-y in a bad way. But a proper story mode! Wow! Finally! And the leaks make it sound like the story is interesting and different, too.

Final Fantasy 16 has my attention, even though, as I watch that trailer, I think about how out of all the Final Fantasy games I've played, I have only ever really liked... two. But I guess as long as Square-Enix continues to command my attention, that's something to be proud of. Curious about the new Dragon Quest and FF7 Remake Part 2, and it's a shame they didn't show them here.

Overall I enjoyed the show a lot. Certainly better than the Summer Games Festival stream, which as of this writing, just ended.

With Carol being the big star, getting a seat wasn't as hard as she thought it might be. Guess they had a section just for her friends and family. Lilac wasn't much in the mood for food though rapping her fingers on her arm as she watched the battle below. In all truth she was looking for Spades Angle in all of it. What was he after? What was he REALLY after! It couldn't just be the title could it? Perhaps he was trying to punish Carol for leaving by taking her title? But she had a feeling that he forgave them for that awhile ago. Probably after she pummeled Brevon and left him for dead. Knowing Lilac did what he couldn't had put his mind at ease on some level. Not that she gave a damn she still couldn't forgive him for his crime.

Still It bothered her, he never did anything without an angle involved, without something in it for him. While Battle Sphere Prize was certainly sizable it really didn't have his MO on it. She grit her teeth the more she thought about it. This whole thing stank, and the fact Zao even considered hiring the guy for Battle Sphere knowing the sort of dirty shit he was involved in? She was going to have a long talk with that little punk before it was over! She still had such a sore spot for what the Scarves did to her.

Still watching Carol's first match, had her grab the bridged of her nose. It was a pretty obvious ploy, but either Carol knew and still played along. Or---who was she kidding she'd have made that same move in some vain hope of getting through to her. Still it bothered her that they'd use such underhanded techniques. Still a valid one she guessed.

A Loud jeer seemed to knock her out of her thoughts as the person next to her was screaming at the top of her lungs!

" KICK HER ASS CAROL! CHOKE HER WITH THAT SCARF! YEA! BEAT HER ASS! WOOOO! "

Boy was she loud, and kind of super into the match she wondered who she was? Though she was super enthusiastic which lightened her mood. She couldn't help but giggle softly and shake her head, while the smaller boy next to her was hiding his face, either from embarrassment or maybe the crowd was getting to him.

" You alright? its pretty loud huh? You want my ear muffs? Might dull the sound a bit if its to loud..."

" n...n. no i'm ok... j..just embarassed... My sister is making a scene... "

" i ain't makin' a scene!?! i'm rootin' fer my friend! showin' my support--- BEAT HER ASS CAROL!?! NINJA KICK HER IN HER STUPID COS-PLAYING ASS! "

" I see... Friends of Carols huh? what interesting characters..."

She guessed she'd missed alot since she'd been gone. These were Mobians by the look of them. The green one was really into the moment, and the Fox seemed soft but enjoying himself. She wondered about them, but honestly she was oblivious to who they were. She'd have to ask Carol more about them later.

" Well any friend of Carol's is a friend of mine--- I'm Lilac! "

" Oh--- I'm Surge, this is my shit stain of a brother Kit. What's up with the horns? You dun look like goat... or a cow... or deer or..."

" SURGE! "

He covered his face

" Th...t...that's rude... we....we. shouldn't me...mention her horns..."

" What i think they are pretty horns--- just askin' a question runt! "

She couldn't help but laugh!

" Ah it's ok--- Super Honest aren't you, Well i'm a Dragon! so the Horns, are sort of part of that! if you stay any length of time in Avalice you'll see us now and again... but maybe don't point it out. Some of us can be touchy about it "

" Ah Right--- Cool a real fuckin' Dragon? Not Shit? that's bad ass! Never met no Dragon before... how do ya know Carol? "

" Oh i've known her since we were little, she's my best friend. Has been since either of us can remember. Growing up i use to joke she was like my tail---never far behind me. Now i think she's grown up and become her own person... really proud of her "

She paused

" how'd you two meet? "

" Oh she talked shit, and almost got hit! hah! then we busted some mail boxes for a laugh! now she's helpin' me move to Avalice an get away from some bad shit back home. Kinda jarring but, i am hopin' i can learn ta love this place... like Sonar "

" ... Carol has the oddest way of making friends... but she's never changed i all these years. Oh looks like intermission, i think ill grab something to drink--- Be back in a moment! and it was nice to meet you Surge, Kit "

" Yea, you to! don't take to long or you'll miss round 2! "

That being said, We know very very little abt Machete! ( Which also makes it kinda strange why as to like him so much LOL ).

Gato does a really great job of keeping his character under tight wraps however;; what we DO know about him makes him super super interesting and intriguing! ( To me at least lol )

I'd say the most interesting and notable thing we have about him comes in the form of this pic! ( Credit to Gatobob ofc! )

The words in the background of each character seemingly represents a key factor of their character ( Derek is well...wealthy, Jack's a cop, and Komodo and Dragon are into cult shit ) and then there's Machete who's words are "Mercy"....LIKE... THAT'S SO INTERESTING RIGHT???? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN???? GAHHAHAHA IT MAKES ME EXCITED TO CONSIDER WHAT COOL STORY SHIT CAN COME OF IT LOL!!!!!

His mask is also obviously clearly different from the rest of them and Gato has mentioned that she is proud of the masks because they all have meanings! So that's note worthy too I think!!

There's also his necklace which looks like it has significance in some way? (But mabye that's a bit too speculative) I wouldn't be surprised if his necklace did have meaning though!!

In a post where Gato gave a brief description of the hunters this was the description of Machete "Machete: A man of very few words. His preference for action sometimes upsets the others." ( https://gatoanswers.tumblr.com/post/638395642420543488/hi-gato-i-had-two-questions-hopefully-they ) . It's kinda hard to infer anything from this but it's an interesting way to describe his character from Gato's part!

There's also this picture ( which is clearly from a early-ish point in the games development so this could be changed but! )

All in all its really hard to say anything about his character so far! He's super super interesting though and I.... love thinking about him LOL

Once again I am very much shooting at nothing here LOL this is pure speculation! And since we do know so little this could all be COMPLETELY WRONG LOL!!!

If I were to get super super speculative on what I think he could be like in the game I'd probably guess that there is a distinct motive for him killing ( Mabye he has a really emotional based motive or smth. Basically I think he does have some moral code ) but I do think he's not just doing it for the sake of doing it like Derek or Jack. I think that he's particularly un-diplomatic but I think that he can be convinced to not hurt the captives/players?? ( Mabye there'll be a specific scenario in the game that can lead to him being convinced or smth? ) And lastly ( I feel most confident abt this speculation lol ) I think he'll end up turning ( or can be turned against ) his fellow hunters! Like I can totally imagine him killing Jack or Derek or smth!!

Hehe I do think about tpof stuff alot and so it's NICE TO BE ABLE TO LIKE. TALK ABOUT IT SOMEWHERE LOL!!! I really am super super interested in Machete and so I'm glad U GAVE ME AN OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABT HIM LOL!!! THANK U AGAIN HAHA!

2021 Summer Painting Challenge: Retrospective

Summer has come to an end, and with it Warboss Tae's 2021 Summer Painting Challenge. That was... a lot of painting, most of which has been collected above. Huge thanks go out to Tae - if you haven't checked out his youtube channel you can do so HERE, as well as to all of the other participants. There were a lot of cool projects, and you can see them all on Tae's discord HERE.

My main goal in participating was to get together a fully painted starter army together. Despite some stumbles along the way I'm happy to say I met that goal, with a small but playable Soulblight Gravelord core units of 20 skeletons, 20 zombies, and 10 dire wolves, a couple elite unit options in the Blood-born and Vargskyr, plus a selection of hero options including a Vampire Lord that I'm quite proud of plus a couple necromancers, not to mention the named character options from Cursed City and the Underworlds Warbands.

Speaking of underworlds, I now have three fully painted warbands to play against my roommate in that game. And I made some progress on the long overdue Ravenguard commission, so that's cool.

More importantly, for the first time since I came up with this paint scheme way back when the Oldhammer Fantasy 8th edition Vamp Counts book was released, I finally have enough painted models to put them all together and have a feel for the overall effect, and yeah, I'm pretty happy with it.

I definitely learned a few things along the way - though as per usual it mostly came from mistakes. Looking at what I learned/screwed up month by month...

JUNE

Pledged - Cursed City, 3 Underworlds Warbands, 4 Sidequests Completed - Everything, though the Sidequests got extra time

June was the only month where I actually met my pledge, despite it being the most ambitious of the pledges by a fair bit. But the pace I set was absolutely unsustainable and I was already crashing by the end. In the future I'll have to set a more realistic pace.

Other things I learned: Don't use your good brush for washes (RIP my favorite brush), you can wash a wet palette in the dishwasher, but only if you take it out before the dry cycle (RIP my palette). I also think I went a bit too excessive on the greens. I want the army overall to be darker so the greens pop more, so moving forward I'm using more black cloth, reserving green cloth for detail bits, and details like gravestones and rope that I painted ghosty greens on the June models are greys and browns after.

On a more positive note, I really liked how the black armor with green highlights turned out on the Crimson Court, and have decided to make that the distinctive feature of vampire models in my army going forward. The process is a pain, and I will eventually have to go back and re-paint the dragon lord's armor to match, but it's worth it.

JULY

Pledged: 10 Zombies, 10 Dire Wolves, Rhino Completed: 10 Zombies, Rhino

I was already crashing hard when July started and ended up spending most of my free time in the early part of the month playing video games. I though I had balanced this out by aiming for a reduced pledge and not committing to daily updates, but a smaller pledge than June was still way too more than I could sustainably handle, and without the daily updates I ended up letting my break run on way too long, plus I was stuck out of town for a week. But while I may have failed my pledge, I still got 10 nice looking zombies done, plus the commission rhino, which is a lot for me, and I was really on a roll going into August.

The main thing I learned is that regular posting does a lot to keep me engaged with the hobby, and that's something I'd like to try to continue after the challenge is done.

AUGUST

Pledged: 10 Skeletons, 5 Blood Knights, 1 piece of terrain Finished: 10 Skeletons, July's Dire Wolves, June's Sidequests

I honestly should have known better that to pledge so much with so much leftover work to do, including the sidequest tutorials that I still needed in order to confirm my project from back in June, but I was on a high and on a roll at the end of July, and I let my ambitions get away from me. And I knew almost immediately that I had made a mistake, just assembling the Blood Knights I could tell that each one of them was going to require more work than most of the heroes I've painted.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the most important thing I learned. The most important thing was that Army Painter brand black primer is SUPER grainy, to the point of obscuring some of the surface texture and details of the models I sprayed it on, which tragically includes the Blood Knights. They weren't quite as badly done by as the poor skeletons, but on such a cool and important unit it's still a bit disheartening.

On a positive note, I learned from the dire wolves that hexwraith flame can be used in my paint scheme to punch up saturation a bit & add a bit of slimy green gore effect that I quite like. At some point I'll have to go back and use it to punch up the zombies & maybe the zombie dragon a bit.

So where do I go from here?

I'm going to be out of town till the middle of next week, but when I do get back I want to keep up the monthly goals with regular update posts. Maybe not every day, but a few times a week at least. But I don't want this to be my only hobby, either. I got games to play, and now that hectic summer vacation schedules have calmed down I've got a family D&D campaign to start running again. Plus some other stuff to work on. So I'm going to try to keep future commitments more manageable. One unit per month sounds about right.

I need to make some more progress on the Raven Guard commission, and I want to save October for something spooky and undead, so for September I think the one unit will be a Raven Guard landspeeder.

I'd also like to actually get to the local store to try to get a game or two in with my newly painted models. If I do, I'll be sure to take some pictures and report back to you on how badly I get thrashed.

My take on a Genshin Impact Circus AU Part 4 with Noelle as a strongwoman and Amber as a death-defying archery stuntwoman. Their backstories are under the cut!

Noelle:

First off I have a very self-indulgent headcanon that she is ridiculously strong. Like. Can benchpress people. Canonverse or AU.

She used to help out around the circus and she was kind of indifferent to the fact that she was likely going to be a maid. It's a respectable profession. And helping out at her childhood friends' (Kaeya and Diluc) manor as she'd been born into doing seemed like a good job.

How she got into the circus life requires a bit of backstory. Back when they were kids, Kaeya, Diluc, and Noelle would mess around (as kids do) and have little challenges for themselves. Who can run the fastest, who can do the best cartwheel, who can jump the highest, and the like.

Noelle got a little hesitant as she got into her early teens bc she was always told to be ladylike, so she spent one or two of their hangout sessions watching Kaeya and Diluc and talking. One day, however, Kaeya and Diluc are being Teenage Boys and lifting heavy things trying to outlift each other. Noelle has lifted furniture when cleaning up after these two so she figures this one unladylike thing would be okay.

She comes up behind them and just. Picks them both up. On top of the things they were lifting already. Kaeya and Diluc have to take a second and just look at her like "yeah no you are never sitting out of our competitions again"

And so they try other things like cartwheels and tests of courage like who can climb the highest on a tree and things are back to normal.

Skip forward a few years and Crepus dies. There's a huge mystery around it that not even his son's attendants are privy to. The only thing people know is that the sons have been sent away to boarding school. The whole manor is abandoned, all the workers fired.

Noelle for the next few years spends her time working at laundromats, and other odd jobs, but eventually she runs out of luck and suddenly there's too many people and not enough opportunities.

One of her friends from one of her old jobs invites her to go out and see this new circus that happens to be in town. She goes because why not. And wouldn't you know it one of the acts is her childhood friends doing these death-defying stunts that hit her with a wave of nostalgia bc their entire act consists of essentially the song "anything you can do" but with more and more dangerous stunts.

Noelle of course has to say hi, so they catch up and Noelle's lack of work comes up and would you look at that Aether and Lumine happen to have an opening for a maid.

So Noelle settles in, continuing to lift heavy shit to clean under it (Bennett swears up and down he saw her lift a fridge once but he might've been sleep-deprived). She also got into helping Chongyun with the techy stuff so sometimes she'll be at tech rehearsals moving things around and one time a rope holding up a person breaks near Noelle and she. catches it.

Now, one night. One of the acts drops out at the last moment bc injury or last-minute commitment or the like. And it leaves a gap in the show. Everyone else is busy. And panicking bc the circus is still relatively new and they really need to build their rep rn.

They start wondering what kind of last-minute acts they can put together like "what about the gymnasts??" "They all have group routines" "do they have old routines??" "Not polished enough for what we need" and someone somewhere pipes up "man I wish we had a strongman or something" and Diluc and Kaeya immediately whip their heads around to look at each other for like half a second before Kaeya bolts. He finds Noelle doing her usual rounds she's been doing for like a month now and Bennett was right, she is currently under a mini-fridge that she is lifting over her head whilst leaning it against a wall.

Kaeya takes Noelle by the shoulders and just zooms her over to where the commotion is happening and pitches the idea to Aether and Lumine. They're hesitant as hECK bc this is a huge risk they're taking since Noelle isn't even a performer but Diluc pitches that they could literally just scatter really heavy items and have Noelle clean under them and as long as she looks at the audience every once in a while it can be played off as a bit.

Noelle with qUITE the stammer says that she'll try her best but at this time is in need of a moment. She has never performed before. Kaeya and Diluc have to go perform so they leave her with a shoulder squeeze and a thumbs up.

She gets on-stage. She flinches under the lights for a second. She takes a deep breath and focuses on the first thing before her with her best "oh heavens, it's filthy in here", and she gets through the entire act by doing that for every object. So the audience is seeing this seemingly petite young girl lift the equivalent of a hecking car in order to clean under it.

Needless to say, there's roaring applause the second Noelle leaves (which she hears from far away because holy shit I just cleaned for people and they liked it)

This was a bit of a one-time thing and she goes back to her regular maid duties until the circus gets a new strongman by the name "Zhongli".

His style is more about lifting exTREMELY LARGE ROCKS, and breaking them in half whilst giving a history/geology lesson on them.

He quietly observes the maid who he hears fantastical stories of That One Time She Charmed An Audience By Cleaning. He was bewildered at first but saw the merit of it while watching her clean. He immediately decides that this girl has sO MUCH. POTENTIAL that is being wasted by having her work as a maid. He has nothing against maids or their profession, but he invites her to train with him.

Noelle gets hELLA stronger and they come to a conclusion. Noelle performs part-time and is a maid part-time. She doesn't have a particular performance style. She'll sometimes play catch with Zhongli and his big rocks, other times she'll be in the background of performers like Amber in the art lifting some hEAVY SHIT.

She gets along with Chongyun super well bc Chongyun has to make less trips to move his equipment since he's worked with her. She's a blessing for when they have to pack up and move.

Amber:

Amber's story is a little more straightforward. She started out engaged to a suitor. Amber was the kid in kindergarten who was learning about dragons and "idk what everyone else was doing". She's known what she wants for a long time, and what she wants at the moment, is not a relationship.

Throughout her childhood she was a very lonely child. Her family exposed her to lots of academic or ladylike things (do not ask me when this au is set, it's the 1800s and the 1990s at the same time or a suspendes steampunk time) to get her away from the thing she liked most: archery. She'd been exposed to it as a kid and latched on.

This drove a bunch of suitors away, so her family got more desperate and exposed her to more classes and activities to get her away from it. She went "that's easy, I'll just practice at night"

So she does that. She practices at night and underperforms in the coming weeks. It is during this time that her parents (high class ppl) find her a man to marry for some business deal idk.

The man's nice enough. It's just obvious he can only take Amber in small doses, and Amber takes full advantage of this to practice and stay in shape.

How Amber gets into the circus life was essentially running away. She bonds with Eula over this.

So because of all the attempts to make her fit into the ideal lady description, her rebellious streak said "yeah we're going to go as far away from that as possible" and she goes "I'm going to run away with the circus" bc that's what the books she's read say is the most rebellious thing you can do.

She finds THE FIRST circus she sees and begs to be let in. This is the shadiest most sketchy place but Amber sees it as the key to her freedom. She signs a contract.

They treat her like the US treats their students. She barely gets time to practice for performances and she's mostly doing dirty work. When they ask her what she can do she's like "I'm really good at archery" and they go "cool, you're going to be doing that while everything is on fire now. Can you do a handstand"

Essentially they push her and push her and push her to do more and more hazardous things she has to pick up on under the threat of being kicked to the curb.

After a while of this Amber is extremely burned out (pun intended) and as she's packing up after one of her shows, covered in burns but proud bc she hit all her targets without killing anyone, she's approached by a blond foreigner.

Tbh for all she's read, Amber really doesn't consider leaving and this time she can't run away since she's now bound by a contract (not Zhongli's btw in case anyone was wondering).

This foreigner tells her that there's so many ways to improve her situation and that he runs a circus looking for members.

Amber refuses since she's not getting tangled up in another legal mess, but she takes his advice on how to take care of her burns, and improve safety while she's performing.

Skip a few months. She hears word of this mysterious new circus around. Her encounter with who she'll later know as Aether stuck with her, and so she goes. To see whether she could really shoot her arrows without being burned alive.

After a show one night, she tries to get past security and fails repeatedly. She turns to leave and wouldn't you know it there's Aether. And Lumine. Waiting for her once she turns the corner. Amber's biggest concern is her existing contract and when Aether and Lumine say they have a nICE lawyer, Amber sees her next step to freedom.

Aether and Lumine essentially gain custody of Amber (but like for adults) and Amber is. Shocked. She's walked through her new contract of employment clearly and essentially treated like a human being.

And now that she knows things and has more freedom (though still under the watchful eyes of Aether and Lumine to see how she does) her creativity and competitive streak flourish. She decides she actually doesn't hate fire, she just doesn't like when she doesn't know when or where it's coming. And she makes fast friends with the gymnasts, so she ends up incorporating that into her routines. Now she uses her canon goggles to protect her from the burning eyes of prolonged smoke exposure when she uses fire.

When she meets a little pyromanic girl named Klee, she's thrilled that someone this chaotic and sure of herself exists.

☆☆TWISTED WONDERLAND POKEMON AU! ☆☆

I did it! I made an au that combines my 2 current favorite things. I also made all the cards myself and I'm proud of them so please check it out.

in which all the dorm leaders are gym leaders

Gym 1

Riddle

type: fire

pokemon:

• flareon (signature pokemon)

Riddle is very strict with his pokemon. Even though he's the first gym, his ruthless battling strategy makes him a very powerful opponent.

His gym would probably have something to do with following all his dumb rules, and breaking one forces you to battle a trainer. Except you don't know the rules and you end up battling pretty much every trainer lol

Gym 2

type: fighting

Leona

pokemon

• Croagunk (sig)

• Scraggy

• Mankey

Leona is super lazy, no ones even totally sure how he became a gym leader to begin with..? But hes known for cheating his way to victory so you have to be careful

if its not cheating its using moves that FEEL like cheating, such as disable, protect, and substitute.

I doubt his gym would have much of a puzzle. It's just a gym where all the other trainers try to stop you with brute strength alone

Gym 3

Azul

type: Water (duh)

pokemon

• Golduck

• Tentacruel

• Malamar (sig)

Azula gym doubles as a battle cafe! If you go in he immediately makes you a waiter/waitress to "prove your strength" but it's really just free labor for him. You're to go to the right tables and battle after giving customers their orders. You can fight azul after you're done.

Gym 4

type: Ground

Kalim and Jamil

pokemon (Jamil)

• Gabite (sig)

• Gliscor

pokemon (Kalim)

• Camerupt (sig)

• Diggersby

• Donphan

Both of them are the gym leader, and which one you battle depends on the day really, but most of the time it'll be Kalim. You can still battle the other after if you so please

However, Jamil is definitely the stronger of the two, choosing his pokemon based off of stats and power and coming up with smart strategies that make him a formidable opponent

meanwhile, Jamil just chooses pokemon because they're cute or look cool. If he wins its totally by chance and hes often surprised when he does.

Idk anything about their gym tbh

Gym 5

Vil

type: ice

• alolan ninetales (sig)

• froslass

• Frosmoth

Vil cares more about his acting career than his gym leader career but that doesnt mean he takes battling any less seriously. His pokemon are all very strong and known for being the most beautiful because vil takes such great care of them.

Again I have no clue what goes on in this gym though.

Gym 6

Idia

type: Ghost

• Chandelure (sig)

• Alolan Marowak

• Cofagrigus

• Spiritomb

Idia is very shy (ofc) and you wont even see him until you've beaten all the previous gyms and talked to Ortho. Hes really strong and most people dont make it past him. The winning streak has bored him a little so he spends most of his time gaming instead. Ortho takes care of his pokemon for the most part.

Gym 7

Malleus

type: Dragon

• Hydreigon

• Haxorus

• Noivern

• Shiny Dragapult (sig)

Being the last gym, he's also the hardest. He also has the most experience, having been a gym leader longer than any of the others, so his team is really an impenetrable wall.

He himself is pretty mysterious though, and has been known to simply disappear from his gym for periods of time.

You probably dont even battle him in his gym. You just find him and engage in a really intense battle.

Thoughts on Garou firsthandly witnessing Badd's soft sides at home when he's off-duty, or how Badd are very skillful on every house chores, have excellent knowledge of proper table manner or etc, basically being the Best Housewife™ despite his appearance as super tough delinquent for public image? Also, thoughts on Zenko being proud&happy that finally there's someone else beside her who can appreciate Badd's soft sides? I'm thirsty/craving for any soft domestic Batarou+Zenko thoughts 😳🌸

...ok so this got way longer than it needed to be dkjhflksjdhf listen I love soft shit and also I got sidetracked and basically am writing a ficlet for this now sjdlljhlk

Heads up this is gonna have some webcomic spoilers, but nothing that like. You probably couldn’t guess based off the story (spoiler alert Saitama is gonna beat Garou)

So my guess is this would happen pretty much immediately after Garou flees after being defeated.

I (as well as a few other people) believe that Badd being added to the final fight for the Monster Association/Garou means he’ll likely come to Garou’s defense when the heroes want to kill him.

If that’s the case, when Garou flees, Badd would become one of the few people who might be a potential ally.

Because realistically, what is he going to do after this? Where is he going to go? He can’t go back to Bang, most of the heroes would kill him on sight, Saitama might not want to kill him but Genos would probably report him to the HA, Tareo is a child...Metal Bat, for all his aggression and the fact he doesn’t actually like Garou, is probably his safest bet.

Granted, it’s still a long shot, but he’s really got no other options.

And listen. The Hero Association needs to keep its information locked away better because he literally saw Metal Bat’s home address on a post-it in a hallway when he was going to the HA for the meeting with Sitch.

So he runs to this nondescript apartment complex and breaks in waits for Metal Bat to either kill him or help him.

(Sidenote he is so lucky that Zenko was not home or did not come home before Badd got there)

He hears a high pitched voice and the door creaks. And here’s Metal Bat, limping, walking hand in hand with Zenko, who is berating him for escaping from the hospital, and putting himself in danger again, and then going and challenging a dragon level threat one on one and no, she does not care that he’d previously fought him, what was he thinking?

And then they see Garou. And the broken window.

And Garou’s no longer on his feet because Metal Bat tackles him, holding his bat to Garou’s throat

And like yeah, Garou really can’t blame him for that because Garou was beating the shit out of him like twenty minutes ago and is the reason Metal Bat is so beat up

So yeah, maybe he lets him hold his bat to his throat even though it would be embarrassingly easy to disarm him given how injured the hero is because to be fair, he broke into their apartment.

Of course, Zenko’s the one who intervenes, reminding her brother of their no violence rule.

Metal Bat tries to argue back, but Zenko is adamant, reminding her brother that last time Garou stood down for her, and that he felt strongly enough about Garou having some good in him that he defended him from the other heroes.

So he begrudgingly stands down, but tells Garou if he tries anything it’ll be the last thing he does.

With that, he gets off of Garou’s chest and opens up a cabinet full of bandages and ointments.

Because “if yer gonna be stayin’ here, we better patch ya up.”

Which. Comes as a shock to Garou because he’d been expecting at most Metal Bat tolerates him and lets him crash for like. a night? But Metal Bat is planning on patching him up????

And all of a sudden Garou is very aware of how attractive Metal Bat is. And the fact that he’s about to be tended to by this Very Attractive Boy. Who is looking at him without any hate? What the fuck??

Hello Gay Feelings. Haven’t seen you in a while.

(Badd is in a similar boat. He’s just better at playing it cool than Garou, who is Bright Red. Zenko sees through both of them.)

Garou gets patched up by this grumpy ass hero who is grumbling the entire time, and he’s aware of every finger brushing on his skin

Badd is also very aware of it and is doing his best not to like. Chastise this human menace for getting hurt, because he really shouldn’t care and it’s not his business that the dipshit got hurt especially since he hurt other people

And Garou’s trying not to think about this attractive guy meanwhile Zenko is seeing a Golden Opportunity to get her brother a boyfriend

And so after her brother patches up Garou, her brother turns to ask her to patch him up and she’s gone.

So Garou’s just like. “You. You want me to patch you up?”

And normally Badd would say no but he is pretty beat up, and he’s tired as all hell, and Zenko’s nowhere to be found, so he accepts.

And every time Badd winces, Garou apologizes quietly because there’s really no getting around the fact he’s the reason Badd’s so banged up.

And Badd realizes that he never gave Garou his name, so he just. Says his name and Garou’s like. “Am I doing a bad job?”

And Badd’s like uhh. No Badd is my name dipshit.

So Garou is really trying not to insult his name because this guy is being very kind for someone he beat the shit out of but. Badd? your name is Badd???”

Anyways Garou finishes patching up Badd and Badd kind of gives him a gruff thank you and walks off to get some water, and listen. Garou’s body’s basically gone through like seventeen marathons in the past twelve hours, so he passes out the second Badd’s out of sight.

He wakes up a few hours later in a panic because he can’t remember where he is, but he recalibrates before he can make a ruckus. So he’s lying on their couch (which he definitely wasn’t sitting on before, which means Badd placed him on it) with a hello kitty blanket pulled up to his chin that he could only assume Zenko put on him.

He stays completely still and just listens to the sounds of Badd and Zenko in the kitchen. He can just make out their conversation:

“How’s th’hero hunter?” “He’s sleeping. Poor thing. He has to be exhausted.” A pause. “Are you planning on turning him in Niichan?” Badd hummed. “Nah. He doesn’t have any fight left in him, or at least, none that’ll see him beatin’ up heroes. What he needs now ‘s rest an’ a friend.”

And Garou can see Badd and Zenko in the reflection of the TV and he sees Badd cup Zenko’s cheek and press a kiss to her forehead and he’s...shocked?

Like of course he knew Badd and Zenko were close seeing as Badd risked his life to keep a promise to her, but such seeing such open, gentle affection coming from the guy who threatened to crack his skull open is jarring.

It’d take Garou a while to really open up to Badd, but Zenko takes a shine to him right away, and Garou gets a kick out of her “take no shit” attitude. She might be ten, but she is definitely Badd’s little sister.

He ends up letting her do his hair and nails, and when she does, she’ll tell him stories of things Badd did, or stuff they do together.

And the more time he spends with her and the more he hears about Badd, the more he grows to care for the two, until he basically becomes a second cat (read: a roommate who doesn’t pay rent).

He’s also 100% got a (unknowingly) reciprocated crush on Badd. Zenko’s just biding her time.
