⌗ oh you’re getting spoiled, that’s for certain. he’s got plans that involve chocolate, flowers, and a very cute plushie of himself<3
⌗ lots of kawa hugs and hand holding!! i stand firmly w the fact that he gives the absolute best hugs cuz he’s just so cuddly and sweet aaaa❤️
⌗ “happy valentine’s day my love~ today you get all of my affections for the price of your own!”
⌗ for a surprise date, he would take you out to a botanical garden and tell you the meanings of each flower that further conveys his love for you. isn’t he the sweetest? YES HE IS SHUT THE FUCK UP BC TOORU IS THE SOFTEST MOST INNOCENT BOYFRIEND EVER🙁❤️ but like i mean when he’s antagonistic i mean🤭 ANYWAY-
⌗ ahem, furthermore i believe pocky will make an appearance, maybe strawberry flavor!! and he will share his box with you.
⌗ finally down to the last stick, he would look at you with a smirk before letting out the most exasperated sigh.
⌗ “oh no, oh no y/n-chan.. there’s only one stick left! what other choice do we have but to share.. care to make it a competition, hm?”
⌗ he won. no further explanations needed.
➫ 𝓘𝗪𝗔𝗜𝗭𝗨𝗠𝗜 𝓗𝗔𝗝𝗜𝗠𝗘 ୨୧ ˎˊ˗
⌗ ah, iwa-chan.. the poor thing had to go to his dearest best friend a week beforehand for advice.. a tragedy, truly.
⌗ after a few threats to give his friend another injury to worry about, however, the wing spiker received all the necessary information and ideas required to execute valentine’s day to perfection for you!
⌗ hajime opted for a rather simple approach to valentine’s day that started with a letter he would hand to you. a formal invite to his home with an rsvp thing there as a joke LMAO he’s so silly
⌗ his cheeks were burning with red, a pout evident on his visage as his brows knitted together — something you found completely and utterly adorable as he asked you to read his note.
⌗ it was a heart clenching sight as you opened up a cute nintendo themed card that had happy valentine’s day written with a few silly video game puns. and just like that, his plans were revealed to be a date at home with the wii and any video games of your choice, since you liked them so much.
⌗ it was needless to say, that despite being rather decent in video games, especially mario related ones that he grew up on.. his skills dropped BELOW noob level because all he could focus on was you.
⌗ you just looked so happy playing, and the twinkle in your eyes made it impossible not to stare.
⌗ for each time that you whined at his lack of awareness, he would just laugh and say it was too hard to focus when your smile was right beside him. something he would much rather look at.
     ➫    𝓑𝗢𝗞𝗨𝗧𝗢   𝓚𝗢𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗢   ୨୧   ˎˊ˗
⌗ his valentine’s day wishes for you was over the top, on behalf of the fukurodani volleyball club wishing you with cute posters once you’d arrived at the gym that day to see your boyfriend — who was acting weird all day because he wanted to tell you so badly..
⌗ his plans for today were to take you to a trampoline park! it just sounds super fun and he wants to show off a little.. but he ends up losing dodge ball to some kids😭
⌗ bokuto emo mode ensues.. but then he remembers you’re there and brightens right up again LMAO he’s so simple when it comes to you fr
⌗ took you to a bakery afterwards to get you your favorite desserts — and because he might have wanted some too.. come on, he can’t help it when they just looked so so good!
⌗ on the way home, you guys petted some kitties along the way and even commented that some resembled your friends back at nekoma high
⌗ he gifted you a light and dark gray owl plushie holding a rose as your gift and as a reminder of him always being there for you!!
⌗ “there you go, y/n-chan! now you’ll always have me with you and when you’re feeling down, just look at plush!”
⌗ valentine’s day ended off that night with long needed hug and the promise of seeing each other once more at practice the next morning<3
➫ 𝓢𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗠𝗨𝗥𝗔 𝓓𝗔𝗜𝗖𝗛𝗜 ୨୧ ˎˊ˗
⌗ after some pushing from his trusted setter, koshi, to do something special, daichi finally got the courage to actually do something sweet for you this year
⌗ what are his plans, you might wonder? it’s simple, yet lovely. he found this spot where the sunset is prettiest in miyagi, and decided to take you there after preparing a nice late lunch at home and homemade chocolates that suga helped him make earlier in the week
⌗ he gave you your favorite flowers first thing that morning at school and a kiss on your head with a small grin
⌗ the team, however, didn’t fail to fluster him with their giggles and snickers as he yelled at them to get back to training..
⌗ it brought a laugh and smile to your face regardless, to see your boyfriend looking as silly and cute as he did, flustered despite how he normally carried himself
⌗ at last, the time came for your date and you were incredibly excited for where sawamura would be taking you. it was almost dusk, but that was exactly what he waited for
⌗ the two of you sat together on a blanket ( and one around you as well ) he’d brought with two cups of hot coco he’d poured out of a thermos he brought and shared a nice meal he’d prepped once he got home from school that day
⌗ the change of color in the sky was a beautiful sight, and yet he found himself looking over at you, a soft smile on his lips that he was able to spend the way with you
     ➫    𝓢𝗨𝗚𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗔   𝓚𝗢𝗦𝗛𝗜   ୨୧   ˎˊ˗
⌗ he has seen enough romcoms, listened to loads of taylor swift and scrolled through hella cheesy couple related posts on pinterest to be able to devise the perfect valentine’s day outing with you!
⌗ koshi brought you chocolate covered strawberries he’d prepared the evening prior to valentine’s day all wrapped up in a pretty box with a note attached that conveyed his valentine’s day wishes for you<3
⌗ for his plans, he’d decided on taking you shopping at the mall and to a restaurant of your choice as his treat to you before taking you to karaoke
⌗ whatever music you like, he’d be happy to sing it with you and just have a super good time worth cherishing as memories<3
⌗ he’d searched up online which flowers to best express his love and created a bouquet for you that he would have had with him when he went to pick you up for your date
⌗ “ahaha, too much? happy valentine’s day, dearest y/n-chan!”
⌗ lots of hand holding, his hands are super soft and taken care of since he’s a setter and his hugs send you on cloud nine, he’s just so soft<3
⌗ it’s rather late when your finish your date, and he finds difficulty in allowing the day to end since he wants to be with you longer.. so you both have a sleepover woooo✨
notes. weehee happy valentine’s day brought you by some of the haikyuu boys because they are free therapy, wym it’s just a volleyball anime? anyways, also dedicated a bit to my girliepops, their favs🫶 enjoy<3

For the love of all things sacred, I hope that Suki having a hair isn't a sign of her actually being a bald villain donning a wig just to look feminine!
We got Spiker and Sponge from James & The Giant Peach (who are in no way good-looking at all) and Rapunzel from Shrek the Third.
I hope they're not secretly saving Suki to be next! Illumination, if she has to be revealed to be wearing a wig, at least have it be in a way where she still remains good!
Personally I don’t believe Suki is wearing a wig. Suki has a very unusual design within the Sing universe, but honestly I don’t believe it’s some kind of ‘secret message’ on Illumination’s part.
Illumination make simple films that follow the same formula. I’ve yet to watch an Illumination film that surprised me with the plot turns it took. I love all of Sing, Despicable Me, Super Mario, and Secret Life of Pets, but all of these films I could predict the plot from start to end. So it’s not exactly Illumination’s style to be building up a twist villain over a series of films. I guarantee Sing 3 will have a villain that is either established already (the return of Jimmy), or will have a new character who is the villain. My money is on the latter. If Suki is a “good guy” for all of Sing 2, then she will remain a “good guy” into Sing 3. Illumination keeps things simple.
Going back to the wig theory; I just don’t see it. A real saluki’s ears are super fluffy and kinda do look like hair:
Tumblr media
I firmly believe Illumination just thought it’d be a nice design. Their ears already look like hair, and they wanted Suki to look beautiful, so they ran with the inspiration. That’s all. It’s just unfortunate that Illumination chose to not give her any ears at all instead of sticking with the “ears look like hair but are still ears” design (à la Lola Bunny).
I don’t think it’s a wig and I don’t think Suki is being set up to be a twist villain.

We localized the names of all the Super Mario Land 2 enemies, ourselves!
Yeah! We decided to, for fun, come up with localized names for all of our beloveds from Super Mario Land 2, and felt it would be a fun holiday surprise to share it all with you in a special series of posts! So here they are, in alphabetical order of their official names!
Tumblr media
Antotto -> Antotto
We start with Antotto, whose name we localized to... Antotto! I promise we actually came up with new names for most of these! Antotto was just already so perfect, a perfectly cute name for a perfectly cute ant.
Tumblr media
Aqua Kuribō -> Goomdiver
This is not an original name, but instead, we are just retroactively declaring that Aqua Kuribō and Goomdiver from Superstar Saga are, in fact, the same enemy, since it makes sense to do so. And now we can rejoice that a SML2 enemy was in an RPG!
Tumblr media
Battle Beetle -> Battle Beetle
Battle Beetle is one of the few to have an already localized name, and we would not change it one bit.
Tumblr media
Bear -> Grumpy Roller
Bear’s name was technically in English, but it was boring. Now it is fun and descriptive! It really is a grumpy little roller.
Tumblr media
Bē -> Babee
This one is Babee, because it is such a baby! Not a literal baby, since it would be a larva in that case, but a baby because it is so cute and precious. It is named after bee flies, and while it may not really be a bee, Babee is too perfect for it!
Tumblr media
Bee -> Bee Sharp
Another with an originally basic name, Bee has now become part of a musically thematic name series with the other bee enemies! This one tries to sting you. Bee Sharp!
Tumblr media
Bēro -> Blantern
It’s a lantern with its tongue sticking out, like it is saying “blah”. So it is Blantern!
Tumblr media
Bomubomu -> Cannonboar
This pig is also a cannon that shoots cannonballs, so it gets a play on “cannonball” for its name!
Tumblr media
Bopping Toady -> Bopping Toady
Do not think for a second we would even CONSIDER changing Bopping Toady!
Tumblr media
Būichi -> Bee Major
While originally this one was given the excellent Chubbee, after extensive discussion we came to the conclusion that there was another clever name that would fit with our newly-assigned musical bee theme!
Tumblr media
Chikunto -> Bayonant
While Antotto remains the same, the variants of it have a consistent theme, where each of their names ends with -ant! Here we have Bayonant, named after a bayonet for its spikes!
Tumblr media
Cog -> Cogwell
Here is another one that HAD an English name, but a boring one. Cogwell is an existing human name, and it includes “well” to make it feel positive, since these help Mario traverse dangerous terrain!
Tumblr media
Dokanto -> Assailant
Assailant is the second of the three vari-ants, and I think its name speaks for itself!
Tumblr media
Dondon -> Dondo Bird
Dondon is already a good name, so it has just been tweaked to be a bit more whimsical, now bringing “dodo bird” to mind!
Tumblr media
F Boy -> F. Boy
It’s him! Our best friend! We would not dare change his name... much! We just added a period after the F, so that it’s more clear it stands for something, while keeping the delightful mystery of what that something is.
Tumblr media
Falling Spike -> Stalacloose
This may be an artificial spike, but I just wanted to name it this. It falls down because it’s not stalacTIGHT!
Tumblr media
Fire Pakkun Zō -> Spicy Piranha Statue
Poor Fire Pakkun Zō doesn’t get any official art, even though the likes of Falling Spike do... but it still gets an English name! It could have been Piranha Statue. It could have been Spicy Statue. Ultimately, it is Spicy Piranha Statue! You know what you are getting into with this one!
Tumblr media
Floating Face -> Wariorb
It’s an orb, it looks like Wario, it’s Wariorb! We were originally going to combine “Maru” (circle) with Wario to create “Mario”, but
Tumblr media
Furiko and Furizō -> Armored Spiker and Armored Spiker Jr.
These two needed some Heavy Duty Names. Some Heavy Duty Names that would feel especially silly with a “Jr.” added to the end. They are a family!
Tumblr media
Genkottsu -> Crass Knuckle
This one I think is simple yet effective! A brass knuckle on a Wario fist, and being crass is one of his defining traits!
Tumblr media
Goronto -> Excavant
Our final ant is Excavant, who loves to excavate! The whole ant family, together and named!
This will be the end of this post, but look forward to parts 2 and 3 in the coming days!

Pt. 3
Tumblr media
pairing: tanaka x oc
synopsis: Ayano Shimizu is the perfect student, the perfect daughter, and everyone looks up to her. Her only problem is Tanaka keeps playing with her heart.
word count: 1.4k
warnings: heartbreak lol i luv crushing hearts
type: fanfic
a/n: one of my old stories so might be some mistakes loool but enjoy^^
The others got off at the stop closest to Ayano's house, but Ayano and Tanaka remained on the train. "I'm glad you agreed to go with me," Ayano told Tanaka as she grabbed his hand. "Why wouldn't I go with you? Arcades are super fun."
Tanaka took Ayano's hand into his as they exited the train. They stopped at a convenience store right outside the train station before heading to the arcade.
Tanaka insisted they get slushies since they were cheap at this particular store. Ayano had no room to argue since he was paying for hers as well.
Since it was Sunday, the arcade was pretty crowded. Tanaka kept Ayano close to him as he maneuvered through the crowd to purchase a game card.
"Hey Tanaka let's do that first." Tanaka turned to look at what Ayano was so excited about and it was a mario kart game.
"Totally, how many credits should I put on the card?" "Maybe 80, but c'mon before someone gets to the game first." Ayano grabbed Tanaka's arm and dragged him over to the game.
She excitedly swiped the card for the game and sat down. Tanaka sat beside her and swiped the card next. After selecting their cars, the game began.
Tanaka was surprised at how good Ayano was at the game. He hadn't taken the game seriously, but now he had to. He watched in horror as Ayano sped past him and reached the finish line first.
"Wow Tanaka. Who would've thought I'm better than you at mario kart." "I demand a rematch. There's no way you beat me." Ayano shrugged but agreed and swiped the card again.
This time, Tanaka paid more attention to the game and even managed to drive Ayano off the road. Passing the finish line, he got out of the chair, "See I am better at mario kart. Who's the loser now?"
"Tanaka your scaring the kids." Tanaka turned around to see two kids waiting behind him to get onto the game. He apologized and followed Ayano to a booth.
"Wanna do basketball next? I'll totally beat you in that too." Ayano gave him a mischievous smile, "You think your going to win? Alright let's play." Ayano followed Tanaka to the back of the arcade where the basketball game was.
Swiping the card, Tanaka selected the two player option. Ayano and Tanaka both attempted to throw the balls in the moving basket. In the end, both of them ended up with zero points.
"Told ya you wouldn't beat me." "You didn't even score so it doesn't count," Tanaka replied heading towards the skeet ball machine. "But you didn't score either." Tanaka swipes the card and is determined to beat Ayano.
Successfully, he managed to throw the ball into the highest scoring hole earning him nearly twice as many tickets as the racing game. "Hey no fair you totally cheated." "Looks like someone's just a sore loser," Tanaka teased.
"Am not, you can't use your volleyball skills in an arcade game." He sticks his tongue out in a teasing way, "I'm just the best wing spiker in the history of wing spikers."
"Hey wanna see if we have enough tickets for a toy?" Ayano asked tugging Tanaka's arm towards the little gift store. He let Ayano lead him to the store where an enthusiastic worker smiled widely at them.
"How about we get water guns?" Tanaka asked pointing to the matching blue and red water guns hanging up on the wall behind the counter. Ayano shrugged, "If we can't afford it, how about matching kirby plushies?"
Tanaka walked up to the woman at the register. Her blonde ponytail swung as she spoke, "What can I help you with today?"
"I wanna know how much those guns cost." Her ponytail swung aggressively as she turned around. "About 5,000 tickets." Tanaka sighed, "And what about the two kirby plushies?"
"Together they're about 3,000." "C'mon Tanaka we only have like 4'000 tickets. Plus, we can buy water guns for like five dollars at the convenience store."
"Fine, I'll take the two kirby plushies." The cashier rang him up as he spent the remaining tickets on various candy. An elated Ayano happily took her prize from the cashier.
Tanaka couldn't be annoyed when Ayano was happy. He thanked the cashier and took her hand in his. They half skipped half walked back to the train station.
"Thank you for all the fun I had today, Tanaka." Tanaka swiped his student id after Ayano, "I had a lot of fun too. Your still coming to my game tomorrow, right?"
Ayano shrugs, "Guess we'll have to wait and see." They both entered the train and took the nearest seats. Ayano hoped her mother wasn't too upset that she was coming back so late.
The train ride lasted fifteen minutes and Tanaka made sure to walk Ayano right up to her doorstep. "The bus leaves at 4 if your coming."
Tanaka planted a quick kiss on the top of Ayano's forehead. Ayano struggled to speak as her face slowly became the same shade as a ripe tomato, "Goodnight Tanaka."
"And don't forget to bring your friends," Tanaka called waving as he headed for his own house. The male tried to hide his very obvious blush as he walked home.
He was surprised Ayano was even going to his game. His phone lit up signaling he got a text. Wonder who it could be, he thought to himself.
⊱ ──────ஓ๑♡๑ஓ ────── ⊰
Monday July 28th
Ayano payed close attention to the clock, waiting for it to strike three thirty. "Ayano at least try to hide the fact your excited." Ayano glanced up from her notebook to see Saori looking back at her.
"Sorry, just can't wait. Plus summer break is literally next week." Saori turned around fully in her chair, "We should totally go to this new roller rink in Tokyo the day after exams. I heard a lot of second years are going."
"So it'll be like a hangout? Could we invite Okazaki and Kimura then?" Saori shrugs, "If they want to come." "Miss. Saito please face the front."
Saori sighed then turned back around in her chair. Ayano checked the clock again. Thirty seconds until school was over for the day. She closed her notebook and slowly slid her pencils back into her pencil case.
"Alright class, remember exams are Friday and Saturday." Ayano quickly gathered her things and raced towards the gym. Saori ran after her, not bothering to say goodbye to Kimura and Okazaki first.
"Ayano, you know I'm not fit for all this running." "Shh Saori. They'll hear you." Saori followed Ayano inside the gym where a few of the third years were already gathered.
"Hey Ayano! Nice to see you could make it. Who's this?" "This is my best friend, Saori Saito. And Saori, this is the captain Daichi Sawamura."
Daichi extended his hand towards Saori. While they chatted, Ayano glanced around the gym. She didn't remember the other third years names since Tanaka never really introduced them to her.
"Well Tanaka isn't here yet. The bus leaves in about ten minutes though so your welcome to get on." "We should find your brother since he wanted to tag along." "He's probably at the baseball field. I'll go get him."
Ayano nods and sits in the bleachers. She was hoping she would be able to ask Tanaka on another date considering the last one went so well. Did this count as a date? She wasn't sure, but she hoped it did.
A tall blonde followed by a shorter boy with freckles were the next to come in the gym. They introduced themselves as Yamaguchi and Tsukishima before leaving for the bus.
Nishinoya, Tanaka, and Kazuo were right behind them followed by an annoyed Saori. "Ayano I found my old jersey so you could wear it to the game today."
Ayano took the jersey and wore it right over her shirt. She gave the others a twirl before sitting back down. "Has anyone seen Kageyama and Hinata?" Daichi asked the others. "I saw them on the bus on the way over here," Nishinoya replied.
Daichi nodded and grabbed his bag, "Coach said he would be on the bus." The other two third years followed Daichi and the five of you trailed after them. Ayano assumed Kiyoko and Yachi were already on the bus.
Ayano sat in the back with Saori since Saori didn't want to sit next to Kazuo. "How long is this game going to be exactly?" Ayano shrugged, "Probably a few hours. I looked up the place and they have this shopping plaza down the street."
"I don't want to watch musty boys run around for hours ya know." "Who knows maybe you'll find someone." Saori waved Ayano off, "Doubt it since I already found people I'm interested in."

15 Super Mario Games That Never Happened
https://ift.tt/3rzcn7l
Super Mario 3D World’s upcoming debut on Nintendo Switch is a major moment for many Mario fans who didn’t get the chance to play one of the best games in franchise history when it was released for Wii U. In some ways, it’s actually seen as a “lost” Mario game by those who never found a reason to purchase what is arguably Nintendo’s worst console ever.
What you may not know, though, is that there have actually been many Super Mario games over the years that were never released for one reason or another. Why many of these projects are nothing more than pieces of obscure trivia (such as the Mario Kart game that Elon Musk wanted to install in Tesla vehicles), some of these canceled, rejected, and unreleased titles shine a light on what could have been.
From volleyball wrestling games to a port of Super Mario Bros. 3 made by the DOOM team, these are 15 of the most fascinating Super Mario games that never happened.
15. A Mario/Rabbids Platforming Adventure Game
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is one of the Switch’s most surprising successes so far, but history tells us that the Ubisoft/Nintendo partnership almost took the form of a Mario/Rabbids crossover adventure game.
Details regarding this project are sparse, but it seems that Ubisoft hoped to develop a game starring Mario and the Rabbids which would have effectively served as a kind of parody of previous Super Mario titles. The spirit of that idea lives on in the lone surviving piece of concept art for the project that you see above.
It’s not entirely clear what happened to the game, but it sounds like it didn’t make it far into the pitch process (if it ever even got to that point).
14. iD Software’s Super Mario Bros. 3
Did you ever feel like Commander Keen in Invasion of the Vorticons was an odd detour for DOOM developer iD Software? Well, it turns out the cult classic PC platformer began its life as a scrapped PC port of Super Mario Bros 3.
The story goes that iD Software made an internal demo called Dangerous Dave in Copyright Infringement, which was basically a parody/recreation of Super Mario Bros. 3’s opening level. Inspired by the effort, iD decided to formally pitch a Super Mario Bros. 3 PC port to Nintendo. They even created a demo for the port which eventually got leaked online.
Nintendo ultimately rejected the idea, but iD continued to develop/alter the demo and eventually used the technology as the basis for Commander Keen.
13. A Donkey Kong Parking Attendant Arcade Game Developed by Sega
Ok, this one is only somewhat related to the Super Mario universe, but we have to talk about the time that Sega almost released a parking attendant arcade game starring Donkey Kong.
According to producer Stephen Radosh, Sega managed to secure the rights to the Donkey Kong franchise via methods that he never really elaborated on. In any case, they had the rights long enough for Radosh to start work on an arcade game where Donkey Kong moonlighted as a parking attendant. It would have tasked players with avoiding oncoming cars while trying to park a designated number of vehicles. Every description of the game kind of makes it sound like twist on the Frogger formula.
This one may have actually been released were it not for the fact that Paramount sold their stake in Sega around that time, which ultimately resulted in the whole thing falling apart.
12. Super Mario RPG 2
Even when compared to games like Final Fantasy 6, EarthBound, and Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG stands tall as one of the best SNES JRPG titles. Fans have long wondered what a sequel to Super Mario RPG would have looked like. As it turns out, we already kind of know the answer to that question.
At one point, Nintendo planned to release a game called Super Mario RPG 2. However, as it seems they could never reach an agreement with Square over the naming rights, Super Mario RPG 2 was simply eventually turned into Paper Mario for N64.
While Paper Mario retained many of the conceptual elements of Super Mario RPG 2 (including the series’ trademark graphic style), the original plan was for Super Mario RPG 2 to be released on the ill-fated Nintendo 64DD. Everything that I’ve ever seen of that project suggests it would have been something more than Paper Mario under a different name.
11. Yoshi Racing
If pressed to guess, you’d probably assume that Yoshi Racing was just Mario Kart or Diddy Kong Racing but with…you know…Yoshi.
The full story is much more complicated. What we know is that Star Fox developer Argonaut Games once pitched a Yoshi game to Nintendo. While I’ve heard some suggest that the game was indeed a character-based racer, the more popular version of the story indicates that Yoshi Racing was actually just the working project for a platformer (possibly a 3D platformer) starring Yoshi.
In any case, it seems Nintendo ultimately decided to veto the pitch, which (along with Star Fox 2’s production problems) hurt their relationship with Argonaut Games. After that, it’s believed that Yoshi Racing was essentially reworked and turned into PlayStation/Sega Saturn platformer Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. Some close to the project have suggested that Super Mario 64 borrowed heavily from the Yoshi Racing prototype, but others have argued that’s just a case of sour grapes.
10. Mario Land for Virtual Boy
You really don’t have to justify any Virtual Boy game being canceled, but considering that Virtual Boy Wario Land is by far the best game ever released for the device, it’s easy to wonder why Nintendo never made a more traditional Super Mario game for Virtual Boy.
As it turns out, they almost did. Nintendo briefly developed a Mario Land game for Virtual Boy that was positioned as a sequel to Super Mario Land 2. The game would have featured a blend of 2D platforming and strange overhead sections that resemble A Link to the Past. Nintendo even showcased a version of this project at the Consumer Electronics Show in 1995.
It’s not entirely clear what happened to this game, but the failures of the Virtual Boy undoubtedly contributed to Nintendo’s decision to walk away from the concept. Interestingly, though, one of the Mario games we did get for Virtual Boy (Mario Clash) is seemingly just a leftover of a minigame that would have been included with this title.

9. Mario Motors
If Mario Motors isn’t the most bizarre Mario game that never happened, it has to be on any shortlist of such projects.
Sometime around the release of the Nintendo DS, designer Yoot Saito (best known for Seaman) pitched a game called Mario Motors to Nintendo. You’d probably assume that it was a racing game, but interviews with Saito suggest the game was actually about building engines. Players would have even been asked to blow air into the DS as part of the building process.
Why was the game never released? Only Saito and Nintendo seem to know the answer, and the only time that either has come close to answering that question is when Saito said he “can’t tell you why” the game was canceled but asked people to “please guess.”
8. A Boo Game From Retro Studios
Boo, the appropriately named ghost from the Super Mario series, is certainly beloved but has rarely risen above the staus of minion. However, legend has it that Boo was nearly the star of its very own game.
Sometime around 2006, Retro Studios (the studio behind Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze) worked on a Boo game that many suspect would have been released on Nintendo DS. We don’t know much about the project, but it seemingly would have featured some kind of possession mechanic and a world full of Boo-like characters.
It sounded promising, but that game and (and a canceled Zelda title) were seemingly scrapped when some key personnel left Retro Studios and shook up the company’s plans.
7. An American Football Game Starring Mario
Retro Studios strikes again with another Mario title that could have been.
At some point during the late ‘90s/early 2000s, Retro Studios began working on a Super Mario football game. While it seems that the initial plan was for the title to be an arcade-like Mario sports game in the style of franchises like Mario Tennis, reports indicate that Nintendo actually requested that the project be converted into a more realistic sports game that may or may not have still featured Mario.
There’s really little mystery as to what happened to this one, as Retro Studios decided to focus their resources on the development of Metroid Prime and put this project on the shelf. Remarkably, this is only the second most fascinating Mario sports game that never came to be…
6. Super Mario Spikers
Following their excellent work on the criminally underrated Super Mario Strikers, developer Next Level Games started putting together a pitch for a Super Mario volleyball game built around gameplay that would have been spiritually similar to Strikers.
However, that seemingly simple idea became much stranger at some point during development when Next Level decided to incorporate pro-wrestling action into the core volleyball gameplay. Actually, some of the concept art for this game shows Super Mario characters in what clearly seems to be a wrestling ring.
It’s that element of the game that ultimately didn’t sit well with Nintendo, as they reportedly felt that the project’s pro wrestling elements were a bit too violent. It’s unclear if there were any serious discussions regarding the possibility of simply cutting those aspects of the game and releasing this as a comparatively simple volleyball title.
5. Mario Factory
You may not guess from the name, but Mario Factory is absolutely one of the oddest Mario projects that never happened.
Based on the little information that’s available about this title (which largely consists of an uncovered patent), it seems that the plan was for Mario Factory to essentially serve as a game development tutorial designed for younger audiences. It was kind of like a more technical version of RPG Maker starring Mario characters and other elements of the franchise.
What’s really interesting about this project is that it appears to have been conceived as a companion piece to an equally strange piece of hardware called the Game Processor RAM Cassette. Many assume that the plan was for Mario Factory to be one of several pieces of software released for the RAM Cassette hardware.
4. The Rest of the Mario Artist Series
It’s fascinating to look back at the Nintendo 64DD and imagine what would have happened if the add-on had been more successful. One thing we can tell you is that the Mario Artist series would have almost certainly been a bigger part of Nintendo and Mario’s legacy.
The Mario Artist series was essentially Nintendo’s spiritual follow-up to Mario Paint. While Nintendo did release four games in the series (Paint Studio, Talent Studio, Communication Kit, and Polygon Studio), there were four more Mario Artist (Game Maker, Graphical Message Maker, Sound Maker, and Video Jockey Maker) that were ultimately cancelled. Much like the Mario Artist games that were released, it appears each would have served as an elaborate creation kit complemented by minigames.
Considering that Talent Studio is believed to be the genesis of the Mii concept and Polygon Studio may have helped inspire the brilliant WarioWare franchise, it would have been fascinating to see what ideas these canceled titles may have led to.
3. Super Mario Wacky Worlds
Super Mario Wacky Worlds was essentially a Phillips CD-I sequel to Super Mario World developed by NovaLogic. Don’t feel bad if that idea makes you shiver.
Yet, the prototypes of this game that have floated in the wild for years now suggest that it actually wouldn’t have been that bad. Despite clearly being in the earliest stages of development, it seems that Wacky Worlds would have been a fairly standard Super Mario platformer that stands in stark contrast to the other awful Nintendo games released for CD-I.
Actually, the story goes that Nintendo was impressed by the progress on this project but decided to cancel it largely as a result of the failure of the CD-I hardware itself.
2. Super Mario 64 2
It’s no secret why we didn’t get a direct Super Mario 64 sequel. This is yet another game that never saw the light of day largely due to the failures of the 64DD peripheral that it was intended to be released for.
Despite never being released, it’s long been implied that Super Mario 64 2 directly influenced future Mario games. While the clearest influences are found in the DS version of Super Mario 64 (which borrowed some of this title’s multiplayer and character concepts), it’s believed that Super Mario Sunshine and the Galaxy series featured some of the rough ideas that Nintendo had intended to feature in Super Mario 64 2 had the sequel actually seen the light of day.
Even still, it’s hard not to wonder whether Super Mario 64 2’s release could have changed the trajectory of the and evolution of the franchise.
1. Super Mario 128
There are actually “two” Super Mario 128 projects. That name first appeared as an early working title for the aforementioned Super Mario 64 2 concept that never came to be, but it is more closely associated with the 2000 Space World event which saw Nintendo showcase a demo of Super Mario 128 for the GameCube.
You kind of had to “be there” at the time to really appreciate this, but Super Mario 128 was one of the most impressive game demos many people had seen until that point. Essentially a showcase of the GameCube’s processing power, Super Mario 128’s demo used advanced physics to show how the next-generation would allow Nintendo to create elaborate levels populated by a large number of on-screen characters capable of interacting with each other in never-before-seen ways.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
So why was the game never released? Well, there’s some debate about whether or not it was ever truly intended to be released, but it seems that Nintendo certainly realized that the technology featured in that demo may have been too ambitious for a full game. It’s also been stated that this project was just one of the Mario ideas in development at that time and that the nod ultimately went to what would become Super Mario Sunshine.

In 2006, Next Level Games, the studio that developed Super Mario Strikers and Mario Strikers Charged (and later, the Luigi’s Mansion sequels), was working on a project called “Super Mario Spikers” internally, which was supposed to be a Mario game focused on an original type of sport combining elements of volleyball and wrestling. In the end, the project was cancelled after only test animations and concept art was made.
In 2014, footage of some of the test animations completed for the game was released by a former employee of Next Level Games. In the screenshot, a scene of Waluigi attacking Mario plays. However, for exactly one frame in the footage, a blurry figure appears in the background (right edge of image). It is unknown if this figure has any connection to Super Mario Spikers or was put into the footage by mistake due to being related to some other project.

Super Mario Land 2 Localization: Part 2!
Tumblr media
Grubby -> Grubbee Sharp
Grubby already had an English name, and it was funny because “grub” really refers to beetle larvae, but we think it’s a wide enough term that it can apply to bee larvae as well. Even the larvae keep the musical theme of these bees!
Tumblr media
Guriguri -> Roto-Spiker
This one is clearly a relative of the Armored Spikers, but it’s its own individual, and behaves more like the classic Roto-Disc than the others. So it is first name Roto, middle name -, and last name Spiker.
Tumblr media
Honebōn -> Hootie the Bone Fish
Yeah, that’s right! We are shamelessly salvaging the ridiculous name that Nintendo has cast aside, previously given to Propeller Piranha! We need to keep its legacy alive! Think of Hootie the Bone Fish as a “metaphorical” skeleton, the reanimated carcass of the very name “Hootie the Blue Fish”.
Tumblr media
J-Son -> J-Son
J-Son is another name that is pretty much perfect as is! We have no improvements to make, not even small punctuation additions. Good job, J-Son!
Tumblr media
Jack-In-The-Box -> Jack-In-The-Block
It is a very small change here, just one to make it a bit more unique, as well as more literal. That is not just any box, that is a Block! He is literally in the block! It even has the Super Mario World-era Block eyes!
Tumblr media
Karakasa -> Parasoul
A karakasa is a parasol that has gained a soul, and there is really no more perfect name than Parasoul! It is almost too perfect, like there must be a catch, but there is none!
Tumblr media
Karamenbō -> Killer Pillar
Sometimes you just have to give an inanimate object a Violent name, for Fun, and this is one of those times!
Tumblr media
Keipu -> Snitch
Snitch is an existing word, but it works quite well here, because not only does she snitch your 1-Ups, but she rhymes with it, being a witch!
Tumblr media
Kiddokatto -> Tinny Tim
Here we have, of course, a reference to Tiny Tim from A Christmas Carol, making this a very incredibly appropriate Christmas post, actually. Tinny Tim is Mario-sized and not tiny, but it’s ok because his name is not Tiny, but TINNY Tim, since he is a toy tin soldier!
Tumblr media
Kurokyura -> Wackula
This one has two meanings! Firstly, this vampire is allied with Wario, and some media even portray him as one of Wario’s close advisors, so a W name is fitting. He is also just a wacky little dracula!
Tumblr media
Kyororo -> Eyeflops
This one’s Japanese name is derived from the rapid darting of an eye back and forth, and it also darts toward Mario when it sees him, so I was hoping to come up with something based on that... but I couldn’t! Oh well! I like Eyeflops enough, including “flop” for extra Silly Vibe.
Tumblr media
Kyotonbo -> Bug-Eye
Kyotonbo’s big ol’ eyes are its most iconic feature, and in fact what it is named after in Japanese. So in English, we draw attention to the fact that this bug is Bug-Eyed!
Tumblr media
Minikyura -> Wackuwing
Wackuwing follows the convention of Wackula, just as the original names do. We originally considered Wackuling, since it is smaller, but it’s also wing-a-ling!
Tumblr media
Mōgyo -> Moofin
This one was quite difficult, because there really is no bull/fish pun in English, at least that we could think of. So a combination of a bull and a fish related word will have to do, and I think Moofin is a cute word! It sounds a little like muffin.
Tumblr media
Neijī -> Screwup
This is not an insult to this enemy’s character, just a very literal interpretation! It is a Screw, and it is usually in the ground, but when Mario appears, it comes Up!
Tumblr media
No.48 -> No. 48
No. 48 was already perfect, and it still is! We just added a space to separate the two parts of its name. It feels a bit better, and it also adds literal Space to the name!
Tumblr media
Noko Bombette -> Boomer Beetle
This one is pretty straightforward, just making it fit in with the rest of the Buzzy Beetle family, which it is still the funniest member of, with its funny eyes. Sorry if the word “Boomer” is tainted to you by this point, but we will still use it. The oversaturation of Wonder Park in the public consciousness is not OUR fault!
Tumblr media
Pikku -> Tail o’ Newt
This is another pretty straightforward one, being mostly descriptive, though with a little contraction added for Flair. It felt right to describe it like this since it is an ingredient in the Witch’s Brew, and she would announce it as such before putting it in the cauldron.
Tumblr media
Poro -> Loony Lander
This is a lunar lander... and it’s silly! A Loony Lander. It does not actually do any landing in game. Because it’s loony!
Tumblr media
Ragumo -> Rigaramole
This name retains a bit of the spirit of the Japanese one, and also fits very well, I think! it uses “rigmarole” as a base, and this creature really is a bunch of rigmarole, I think. What’s going on here? Yeah.
Tumblr media
Rerere -> Sweepin’ Sally
And here we have one of those good ol’ “individual names for a species” situations! Sally is sweepin’ up a storm!
That is all for part 2! We will conclude with part 3 tomorrow, see you then!
