heads up! food mentions. reader kinda hinted to be going thru it.
the vibration of a carton of rocky road ice cream heavily hitting the table snaps you out of your thoughts. you pull out an earbud, peering up at where vernon stands on the other side of your dinner table. when did he get here? you glance over to where seungcheol is no longer on the couch, but at the front door again. you saw him get up a few minutes ago but thought nothing of it--he's ordered takeout before.
"we're having an intervention." vernon says it as if he's describing the weather, no malice or concern in his words. it's... honestly pretty normal for him, actually. he continues to pull things out of the plastic bag he's carried, setting down a bottle of cola next to you.
"for what?"
"for you!" seungcheol yells out as he's locking the door behind wonwoo and mingyu. wonwoo's carrying another bag filled with plastic tupperwear, and mingyu's already making a beeline for you.
and within seconds, mingyu is crushing you. perhaps to the death? you're not sure, but his embrace is warm and he sways a little as he kisses the top of your head. "you're sad."
you pout at your friend group. "i'm working."
"it's not due and you've made progress," seungcheol says, pushing your laptop shut. "you're listening to sad music again. vernon noticed. but you're not even crying now--you threw yourself into this paper hours ago."
maybe mingyu will crush you to death and spare you from this conversation.
"you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to yet," wonwoo rests a hand on the top of your head for a gentle pat, "but we thought you could use company. vernon got your favorite ice cream, and i went shopping so mingyu..." he raises up the bag, no doubt filled with some of your favorite foods. "you should take a break."
"it's game night anyway," vernon pulls your laptop away from you further, picking it up to cradle it in his arms. "we decided."
without you, you almost point out. but you look between them all, and maybe they have a point. maybe you'll talk about it later. but now... you'll let them help you heal a little.

@steddielovemonth Day 10: Love is missing each other @lihhelsing
Tumblr media
Steve heard the voicemail click for the third time today. Eddie was away in Sam Francisco recording a proper demo for a company that had seen him in an Indy bar a few months ago. It was his big break, everything Eddie had dreamt of, Steve was of course excited for him too.
He had promised to call every day for the two weeks they'd be gone. Every night at 7pm the phone would ring and Steve would excitedly pick up the phone and listen to whatever crazy story Eddie had for him that day.
He'd heard all about Eddie's first time flying and how Jeff almost puked on the plane. He'd laughed while listening to how they got lost on their second day and ended up in Chinatown. He smiled hearing how happy Eddie's voice sounded when he talked about the studio.
It made Steve sad when he hung up the phone, knowing he'd have to wait another day to hear his boyfriend's voice. Eddie was fulfilling his dreams, he might even want to move there soon if this goes well.
They'd talked a bit about it before he left but it was all hypotheticals, but the more phone calls ended with Eddie telling Steve how awesome a time he was having there the more it seemed like leaving Hawkins would soon be a reality for Eddie.
Steve was conflicted, the kids were graduating the following year, and Robin and Nancy already lived in Chicago, there were dwindling reasons to stay in Hawkins. But something kept holding Steve back. He didn't know if it was old Upside Down worries even though it had been a couple years since anything had happened, or if it was something he didn't want to think about.
Maybe he felt if he left with Eddie he'd be holding him back still, did Steve Harrington make sense in California, did they make sense in California?
It was 8pm and the phone hadn't rung. He'd called the number Eddie had given him for emergencies but for the third time he'd been met with just voicemail box.
Was Eddie hurt? Had he forgotten about Steve? He was supposed to be back in a couple days. Was Steve easy enough to forget after not even two weeks?
He rang one more time.
Please leave your message after the beep.
Steve sighed, "Hey, Eds. Um, it's about 8 now, you haven't called yet so I just want to make sure you're ok. I um, I really miss you, please call me back. Did I do something? Or um, are you um..."
Steve couldn't get the words out, too worried of what the answer would be.
"Call me when you can please, I'm sorry if this is clingy though, you don't have to call me every day it's fine, I get it, my voice probably has gotten pretty tiring."
"No voice I'd rather hear, baby."
Wait, had Eddie picked up and Steve missed the click of the line, Steve heard the beep of the end of the voicemail. That could only mean... Steve turned around to see Eddie smiling at him.
"Hi, baby."
All of Steve's worries melted as he took no time to step forward and hold Eddie in his arms.
"What are you doing here?"
"We finished early and I couldn't stand another few days without you, missed you so much baby."
"We should move."
"What?"
"Wherever your music is going, I wanna follow, Eds."
"Really?"
"Don't want to spend any more time missing you."
"I'll take you everywhere with me, sweetheart, don't want to miss you anymore either."
By the next spring, Steve and Eddie were across the country, and phone calls were for checking in with their family, the rest of their time was for them.

❣️Red Wine Supernova❣️
Tumblr media
pairing: dealer!ellie williams x introverted(f)reader c.w: weed smoking, insinuated self-pleasure Summary: modern college au, dealer!ellie x introverted!(f)reader, slow burn with some sad elements. Inspired by Red Wine Supernova by Chapel Roan Parts: 1. I Just Want To Get To Know You 2. Mini Skirt and My Go-Go Boots 3. I Don't Care That You're A Stoner + Epilogue: Falling Into Me a/n: new writer so be nice >:3 sry if the format is a lil fucked
Part One:
I Just Want To Get To Know You
Mornings are your happy place. Your room is your sanctuary, and you greet the day in your usual fashion. Floating around your space listening to music, doing your skincare and makeup, and finding the perfect outfit. This morning, however, was anything short of paradise. Today was the last day of finals week and all the studying and stress got the best of you last night as you completely burnt out of all your routines. You push the empty chip bags and energy drinks aside on your nightstand to make some room for your phone, which is dead. How could you forget to plug it in?
Opting to check the time on your computer you realize you overslept. There's only twenty minutes to don an outfit before you head to your first exam of the day. You curse yourself first then promise to have a full self care evening after finals are finished. Tossing on some leggings and an oversized hoodie equipped with the Jackson College logo. You do a quick wash of our face, minimal skin care, grab your phone, bag and shoes and you are out the door.
Thankfully, living a block from campus has its pros. You fast walk the block to campus and b-line for the cafe. Popping in and getting into the short line hoping to see someone who knows your order working. You let out a sigh of relief when you see Sasha working the cash register.
The barista greeted you, “Morning Y/N! Happy end of finals week!”
“Morning Sasha, I can’t wait for this week to be over. I'm in a rush this morning so I'll just do my coffee, no pastry please.”
“Sure thing babe” she starts writing in your order, “it'll be out in just a minute.”
You pay and wish each other luck finishing exams. Retiring to a stool on the side of the pickup area, you put your headphones in to try and reclaim some peace in your morning. After a full song plays you glance at the time and realize you have been here for a few minutes too long. Behind the barista station, you see a brown-haired girl facing the back counter. She's moving around like she doesn't know what she's doing and Sasha is watching from the side making small comments. You assume it's a new hire so you wait the extra minute for her to finish with your drink -praying that she doesn't fuck it up and ruin another part of your morning. You zone out to your music again and before you know it you hear your order being called out:  “Medium mocha with half chocolate for.. y/n?”
You look up and almost choke on your breath as your eyes meet pools of emerald green. Light whips of auburn fly around a flushed face, dotted with freckles. You stumble off the stool and brush fingers with the girl as you grab your coffee, not wanting to take your eyes off her.
“Sorry it took a minute Y/N, Ellie here is training today” Sasha pipes in from behind. The girl smiles sheepishly as your eyes snap away and focus on the coffee in hand. When did you grab this?
“Oh, yeah, no problem, thank you!.” you say, trying to recollect yourself. “I’ll see you later Sasha!”
Heading out the door, the cool air whips the interaction out of your mind, as your only focus now is making it through the rest of the finals day.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
5pm finally rolls around and you let out a sigh as the fresh air hits you while leaving the lecture building. You pull out your phone to check for messages and play some music on your walk back.
You have (7) unread messages:
*H03 Hoes* Olivia: Anyone up for dinner and a movie? I need to dissociate after  this week o.o Ivy: yes I'm there but only if we can get Red Mill Phoebe: I'll be at Daniels tonight :)  Olivia: we know pheebs lol have fun love birds Sage: if we are getting Red Mill im gettin high Ivy: Y/N!!!? Where are youuu?? Phoebe: :D
Staring at the screen you smile in relief, just what you need after a long day; your roommates out of the house, time for yourself. Your last two exams were harder than you expected and all you want to do is order takeout, put on a show, and take a bath. You gather your thoughts and text a response;
*H03 Hoes* Y/N: staying in girls, i need some TLCOlivia: i don't blame you, this week was fucked Ivy: Want us to bring you back a burger? Y/N: that's okay, i'm ordering Thai :) Sage: oh my god you really do need this night, i'm leaving you a joint Y/N: lol thanks sage Olivia: we'll be back by midnight! Have fun ;)
Your roommates were always understanding, you really couldn't have wished for a better housing placement. House 03 was one of ten houses that were off-campus communal housing. You moved into the house a month into your first semester at school. The rest of the girls had time to bond but welcomed you in like another sister. Your introverted tendencies sometimes made you feel like a shut-in as your roommates always had something to do or somewhere to be. Sage was probably the most understanding, she enjoyed staying in also & always shared her stash with you when she did. On the rare occasion you accepted, you and she got stoned and watched shitty TV and ate takeout.
Finishing your response to the girls, you put on a playlist that you've been loving recently and put your phone away, looking up just in time to come face to face with another person. Bumping into each other you both stumble back in equal confusion.
“Ah fuck, shit, sorry!” says a honey sweet voice.
Y/N: “Oh fuck no im sorry! I was not paying attention” you take out your earbuds and catch your balance as you look up at who you collided with. Green eyes instantly meet yours. Swirls of auburn hair and freckles dance across her face as she smiles and laughs.
“Oh hey, didn't I make your coffee this morning?”
“My what?” you say in confusion.
“Your coffee! At the cafe, I was training this morning. You got like a mocha or something?” the girl rubs her temple trying to remember.
“oh! Oh yeah! That was you” you chuckle, stealing yourself away from her gaze. Holy shit, you completely forgot about this morning, how could you forget about such a pretty girl?
“That's me!" She says. "I'm Ellie, by the way.” She holds out a hand with a sideways smile.
“Im Y/N” shaking her hand, blushing a little.
Ellie: “So where are you in such a rush to, Y/N?”
You laugh, “nowhere really, home. I'm so over this week.”
“Same oh my god, I'm almost done with work I just have a drop off to do. Then I'm free!”
Her goofy enthusiasm was infectious, you felt oddly comfortable with this girl.
“Oh, cool? I'm going that way” you point across and down the street towards the College neighborhood.
“Me too! Walk together?” Ellie suggests
You nod and set off together. It was a short walk and for the first few steps, you were quiet. Everything happened so fast, the collision, the conversation, and now you're walking together?! That's no big deal, you're just walking together! You steal a glance at the girl beside you. Holy shit how long has she been staring at you? “I'm not even going to ask how your finals went if they were anything like mine!” Ellie laughs, scratching the back of her head
You chuckle trying not to trip over your own feet, “yeah they were pretty difficult, i'm just glad they are over for now”
There's not enough conversation to distract you from the growing ball of nerves in your stomach. You keep stealing small glances at the beautiful girl strolling alongside you with such ease and confidence. Before you know it you get to your house walkway, you turn to Ellie
“This is me, uh it was nice meeting you! And thanks for making my coffee” You are suddenly aware of how awkward you feel, trying not to make eye contact.
“Oh yeah no problem,” Ellie leans slightly to look behind you at the house, “you live here? Do you know Sage? I'm here to meet her.” Ellie says, pointing towards your house She's asking about your roommate? Something clicks when you realize you've seen this girl before, no you’ve heard her voice before. Whenever Sage stayed in she would call her dealer, who never came inside but Sage and her would talk on the porch for a bit during the deal.
“Are you Sage’s dealer?” you ask.
“Have you been smoking my shit?” Ellie laughs
“No I mean, sometimes I partake, but yeah Sage is my roommate, um come on up?”
“Wicked” Ellie follows you up the path and steps and waits at the door as you call into the house.
“I'm home! Sage! You have a visitor!”
“HI HOME! I'm Sage!” you hear from upstairs as the blonde girl comes bounding down the stairs. “Oh what's up Ellie, sorry you had to deal with her y/n”
Ellie scoffs behind you, “yeah whatever, you can find a new dealer”
Sage laughs, “And buy from a dude? No way, I support woman-owned businesses. How much do I owe you?”
You bow out subtly during their conversation. Before the two girls make their exchange you are halfway up the stairs. Letting their conversation get muffled as you enter your bedroom. You don’t know why you seclude yourself so much. Social interactions can be so anxiety inducing for you and you were well past spent on interacting this week.
Tossing your shoes and bag in the corner you collapse on the floor wrapping a blanket around you. Finally safe in your own space. It wasn't long before you heard footsteps coming up the stairs and Sage was knocking on your door.
“Hey babes, you doing okay?”
You get up, blanket still wrapped around you and shuffle to the door, opening it slightly before leaning on the door frame, looking like a sad puppy.
“Oh y/n it was a long week huh? Well I'll be out of your hair soon. I just wanted to give you this.” she holds out a joint, which you now know came from Ellie.
“Thanks Sage, I might actually spark this tonight.” You smoked with Sage occasionally but never alone.
“It’ll help, light it in the bath! That's my favorite thing to do” Sage beams and hands over the joint, it was beautifully rolled, you almost didn't want to ruin it. She gives you a small squeeze on the arm and blows you a kiss before wishing you a good night and skipping towards her room to get ready for the evening.
You shut the door and drop the blanket down, giving into a big stretch before locking into self care mode. This is where you really excel, you know the ins and outs of what creates an environment that lets you rest and recoup to the best of your abilities. And currently your room was in disarray from the late nights spent studying and dissociation. You put your headphones in and go to work. It takes half an album to clean up the mess from the previous week. You are feeling much better and continue on your self love ritual. Peaking your head out into the hallway you listen for any sound of your roommates.
Silence, perfect, Olivia and Ivy must have come and left with Sage while you were cleaning. You pop your headphone back in and continue your groove downstairs to get something to drink and order your take out. While on the call your phone buzzes from a text, thinking nothing of it, it must be one of your roommates. You complete your order and finish up in the kitchen returning to your room for a much needed bath. All focus on yourself.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's nearly an hour later, you've drawn your bath and your take out has arrived. A shitty show you’re half paying attention to plays off your laptop, propped up on the laundry basket. You finish your last spring roll feeling a little bored and you grab your phone, figure you’d scroll some socials for a bit. Flicking on your screen you see you have a text from an unknown number.
Unknown: “Do you always stay in on a friday night? ;)”
Your hear skips a beat. Your heart rate rises, confused and anxious who got your number? How do they know your home alone? Also this was an hour ago! You text back; Y/N: um, who is this?
You wait only a minute before you get a text back,
 “Ellie :)”
Relief sets in, not a creepy guy or stalker, thank god. Your phone buzzes again.
Ellie: “Gosh made you coffee and walked you home, am I that forgettable?”
You text back quickly, “no sorry, hey! I just didn’t know your number. How did you get mine?”
Ellie: “Sage gave it to me, I hope that's okay?”
“Yeah, yeah that's cool!” you text back.
A little confused why Sage would give out your number without asking but your thoughts are interrupted by another text from Ellie:
“You didn't answer my question silly ;)”
You reread Ellie's first text. You do usually stay in, even on friday nights.
“Pretty much lol” you respond with another text, “I don’t really like parties”
“I feel that, good for business, bad for vibes lol” ellie responds
You stare at the screen, taken aback by how all of a sudden you are talking to this girl you hardly know for the second time today. Suddenly the bath is way too hot and wet, your laptop playing a little too loud. You close your phone, pause your show, and start to drain the tub. Rinsing off and finishing up your shower routine, you are standing at the vanity when your phone lights up catching your eye. It’s Ellie again,
“So would you like some company? I'm nearby actually” A glance at the time tells you it's 9pm, late for you, your only other plans for the night was to curl up in bed and continue your show until you fall asleep. You take a second to think about things as you put some clothes on, a soft pair of pajama bottoms, a tank top and a slouchy oversized sweater. Something in you was intrigued with this girl. It was strange for you to feel like you wanted to hang out with someone let alone someone you just met late at night.
You pace for a minute thinking, am I really going to do this? Typing out the text and holding your breath before hitting send then chucking your phone on the bed and running to the mirror.
“Okay, why don't you come over?”
You inspect your appearance. Natural beauty, your skin care routine was spot on and truthfully you loved your look the most at night after you cared for yourself. You felt a rush of adrenaline and took a few breaths to calm yourself before sliding on a pair of slippers and grabbing your phone to go downstairs. Before leaving, the joint on your night stand catches your eye and it only seemed right to bring it along, Ellie did roll it.
On the way down the stairs, there's a knock at your door, that was fast. You peek out the window to be safe, Ellie standing with her back to the window facing away from the door. Hand scratching the back of her head, it looks like she's changed since you saw her last. You open the door and catch a whiff of pine and amber as she turns to face you, the same sideways smirk on her face from before. She's wearing all black, dirty Converse, ripped jeans, and a black jacket over a green hoodie.
“Hey, whoa cute fit” Ellie laughs as she looks you up and down, “cozy?”
You move a little at her comment, noticing how underdressed you are. “You caught me at the end of my shower”
She chuckles again, “well I wasn't trying to take you out, was wondering if you wanted to smoke this with me?” Ellie pulls a joint from behind her ear, and holds it up between her pointer and middle finger.
Your nerves are going crazy but something in the way she looks at you makes you feel at ease in her presence.
“Yeah sure, I have one of yours already actually” you say as you hold up the joint, it's a little crushed as you realize your hands were clenching.
Ellie laughs, “you keep that one, we can smoke this one” she gives you that smile again. “Are we gonna stand on the porch all night?”
You snap into reality a bit and stumble over your words and yourself, letting her into the house. “no! Sorry, ya we can smoke in the back, we have some chairs out there.”
“Sweet, I'll follow you cutie”
You turn away from the comment before Ellie could see your cheeks go up in flames.
You lead her through the house to the back door and out into the small yard. There's a fire pit in the corner with a few lawn chairs around it. There's a light breeze in the air but it's rather temperate for a spring evening. You sit down in a chair and Ellie flops down next to you. Pulling out a lighter and joint. You watch as she puts the joint between her lips, lightly holding it with one hand and lighting with the other. Your eyes are locked on her while she inhales and the cherry goes red illuminating her soft features. Only when she exhales a cloud of smoke and looks at you do you look away quickly. Darting your gaze away to the joint held out in front of you.
“Here ya go y/n” Ellie's voice is low and gravely, cutting through the silence of the night.
You swallow and take the joint, breathing out preparing yourself for the hit. You can feel Ellie's eyes on you as you inhale, hold for a second too long, and exhale out in coughs, covering your face and shoving the joint in Ellies direction. “Shit, hahah, I don't smoke that often.” you get out
“Oh! That's okay, you don’t have to if you don’t want it!” Ellie takes another drag, hesitating to pass it back your way.
“No, no it's okay, the first hit is always the roughest,” you say through your coughing fit. “I usually smoke with Sage.”
Taking another drag and speaking as smoke billows out past her lips, “Okaaay you can tap out at any time light weight” She chuckles at the end of her sentence but reaches the joint back out to you. You take it, needing another hit to settle the growing nerves in your stomach, she will not stop looking at you.
You and Ellie pass the joint back and forth a few rounds in easy silence. Only a few loud conversations and music from down the block fill the air. Ellie breaks the silence after a moment.
“So I know you said you don’t like parties but there's this one tomorrow night at my friend Jessie’s house, he lives in 09. My roommate Dina and I are going, you might like it?”
Jessie… You've heard that name before, he was one of Daniel’s, Phoebe's boyfriend's roommates. A group of boys that live in House 09, down the street from you. You've actually been to their house for a party once before. It was fun for an hour until you Irish good-byed to go home and lay in bed. Texting your roommates of course, because girls always need to stay safe. Considering your roommates would be inviting you to this party as well you decide to accept Ellies invitation too.
“Oh yeah, my roommate Phoebe is dating Daniel who lives in 09, i'll probably be there for a little bit.”
Ellies face lights up, and she moves in a way that looks like she's trying to hide her excitement. “You will! Cool, I'll see you there then! Ah this thing is out.” She stubs out the cherry in the joint and tosses it into the fire pit. “Well I should let you get back to your evening princess, I have a few more drop offs to do tonight anyway.” She stands from her seat with a stretch  and holds her hand out for you to grab as you stand. Her jacket got pushed up a bit and you notice a dark image on her forearm, a tattoo? It's hard to tell in the dark. You grab her hand, making a mental note of how strong and soft they are before standing fully and stepping back.
“I'll walk you out then, uh thanks for smoking me out” Your mind is hazy and calm, you barely realize that your nerves are settled, you're comfortable. Ellie follows you back into the house and to the front door, you both pause at the open door, Ellie's eyes on yours, yours on your hands.
“So I'll see you tomorrow night?” Ellie breaks the silence, making you look up,suddenly the nerves are back.
“Yeah, i'll see you around Ellie” you do your best to not shiver, and give her a smile.
The green eyed girl averts her gaze as she sheepishly scratches the back of her head. “Alrighty, have a good rest of your night!” She turns to leave but turns back,
“oh yeah, it's a decade's party, so you gotta dress up”
She gives you stupid snap and finger guns and turns away, popping down the steps and into the night. You let the cool air wash over you as you watch her walk down the street. Noticing the flick of a lighter in the night as she goes out of sight. You close the door and nearly collapse against it as your stomach begins to flutter again. Holy shit holy shit holy shit.
You take your phone out as you run up to your room, texting your house group chat immediately.
*H03 Hoes* Y/N: “Sage, why'd you give my number to a stranger?? Also… is there a party tomorrow night at H09?”
It was a little while before you got a response from your roommates, their movie must have ended, it was now 11:30pm. You shoot up from your bed responding to your roommates;
*H03 Hoes* Sage: “Ellies, not a stranger! And she asked for it ;)” Olivia: “The Decades party yeah! We were going to ask you tomorrow if you wanted to go!” Y/N: “Well yeah not anymore, she kinda came by the house and smoked me out.” Ivy: “Yo what?!!! y/n hung out with a girl??” Y/N: Hey, I'm allowed to do stuff! Lol Sage: lolol we’ll be home in a little bit! We can get ready for the party tmrw together :D”
You lock your phone and look around the room, you realize you had been pacing for that whole conversation. Adrenaline going crazy, your mind flashing images of auburn hair and green eyes. You probably had 30 minutes left of alone time in the house so you decide to end your night right, how you usually do. Stealing yourself under your blankets, touching and pleasuring yourself until your breath relaxes you into sleep. However tonight, green eyes stare back at you in your mind.

𝐌𝐄𝐄𝐓 𝐌𝐘 𝐌𝐎𝐌
Tumblr media
Pairing: Eddie x F!Reader
Summary: Eddie wants to introduce you to his mom, so you go to the graveyard with him.
Warnings: angst, fluff, death of a parent
Tumblr media
It was late evening and the sky was starting to darken when you sat down on the ground, in front of the stone with Mrs. Munson's name engraved on it.
"Hi mom, this is Y/N," Eddie said as he crossed his legs and stared at the faded photo of the smiling woman on the tombstone "my girlfriend."
He had been wanting to take you there for some time, he said that since he knew your family he wanted you to get to "know" his too, only if you wanted too, of course.
"I've talked about her so many times before, I do it every time I come here actually, but I've never brought her here before." He added pulling his hands out of his jacket pockets and playing nervously with the rings on his fingers.
He kept talking without ever meeting your gaze as if he was afraid of what he might read in your eyes.
"She's here because she's really important to me and I wanted to introduce her to you too. Uncle Wayne has already said that she likes her a lot, they're basically best friends, sometimes I think she loves him more than me." He said the last part with a slight laugh but from his expression he didn't look amused.
"You two have a lot in common, you know?" He asked before pausing as if he was really waiting for an answer.
In return you only heard the rustling of the leaves of the trees caused by the wind.
"She's as kind as you were. She always lets me copy her homework even though I should probably start doing it myself if I wanna graduate. Sometimes she brings home-cooked food for me and Wayne, she and her mom make really good chocolate cakes, you would have liked them a lot." He explained, his voice low.
"Sometimes we cook together like I used to do with you. But Y/N and I always end up making a mess or fighting with flour. But it's fun, so we keep doing it even if we have to clean the trailer from top to bottom afterwards." A sad smile appeared on Eddie's face, probably remembering his days spent with his mother when she was with him.
"And she's as funny as you, she can make me smile with a simple joke even though my day has been shit and I just want to sleep for three days straight." He added and your heart squeezed in your chest.
"She's caring. That's another thing you both have in common. Once I didn't go to school because I had a fever and she missed an important test to come and check if I was okay. Actually I wasn't very okay, she had to keep my hair back as I threw up. I told her she could go anyway but she stayed with me until Wayne was back, at night. She stayed there all those hours, making me rest my head on her stomach and running her hands through my hair just like you used to do." At this point you just wanted to cry. You never thought that all those simple gestures that were part of your relationship with Eddie could mean so much to him.
You reached out to him and grabbed his hand which had started to shake slightly and definitely not from the temperature. He fliched at first, then hold it as if his life depended on it.
"She's also a good listener, she never judges when I talk about my problems and always listens when I talk about things I'm interested in . She says she likes to hear me talk about what I like, Dungeons & Dragons, the band and music in general, books. Once I even started reading the Hobbit aloud to her, but she fell asleep after half an hour with her head on my chest. I didn't get mad, she was too pretty. And I could never be mad at her, she makes me happy." If he was talking about being happy, then why did his voice sound so broken?
"When I'm with her I feel good, mom. It doesn't matter if I'm at school, in the trailer or on a bench in the woods, when I'm with her I feel at home. And it feels good. It feels great." He added as a tear rolled down his cheek.
"She's one of the best people I know." He breathed as you reached up to him and wiped it away with your thumb, slowly caressing his cheek.
"You would have loved her, mom." He said finally, before wrapping an arm around your waist and pushing you against him, resting his head on your shoulder and sniffling.
"It's okay." You said rubbing your hand on the fabric of the denim jacket covering his back.
"I love you." He whispered.
"I love you too. And I'm so sorry I didn't get to know your mom. If she was even half as amazing as you are, then she really must have been great." You said leaving a kiss on his forehead.
"She was." He murmured as his arms still held you.
Your lips brushed his temple leaving a light kiss there too, then you turned towards the tombstone.
"Mrs. Munson, I promise I will take good care of your boy."

Sure! I don't mind requesting something new! So you write somewhere in your works how Miles 42 and reader met through location, "whether it be going to the same school or living in the same building or whatever"
I wanna' see a fanfic in Miles pov how he and reader met and how their relationship developed throughout the process! I wanna' know if he's going to make a move in interacting with reader or such. :))
Mr. Tambourine Man ~ Earth 42! Miles Morales
A/N: Many people will tell you this song is about a drug dealer. I, however, have always taken Mr. Tambourine Man as an analogy for youth. Take this as you will.

Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me.
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Growing up, Miles had always been the dull kid in the corner of the classroom. It was his nature.
He didn’t really remember his dad’s death, but there was always a sort of emptiness in the Morales apartment that never got filled. The emptiness has always been there, in his home and in his mother.
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you
On the late nights, he hears his mother sitting in the living room all by herself lonesome. She sits on the couch, in the same spot she has been all these years; next to the spot his father would have taken up.
He can imagine it: his mother curled up under a blanket, her husband’s arm resting over her shoulders. He’d kiss her head and the spot behind her ear. She’d pretend to pay no mind and act as if he doesn’t still make her giddy like he did back when they were young.
Though I know that evening's empire has returned into sand, vanished from my hand.
Left me blindly here to stand, but still not sleeping.
But his father was not there. The late Jeff Morales did not get to stay up with his wife, watching the television as their child sleeps. He was dead, but it sometimes felt like his ghost was haunting the city. He’s gone, but it’s like he’s still there.
As he grew up, Miles did not get the joy his classmates did. He watched his mother work like a dog to support the two of them. He spent many nights alone, waiting for her to come home.
It was sad. Miles was sad.
My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet.
I have no one to meet, and the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming.
So here he sits, in the corner of his studio art class, his last period of the day. Miles is behind an easel, dried paint covering his hands and table. There was music playing in his headphones, but he wasn’t really listening. It was to block out the other noises.
The door opens, and in walks a girl he’s never seen. It was an odd feeling, at first, a shred of nervousness he didn’t quite understand.
He looked around the room, at all the other students and seats, only to realize the one next to him was the only one open. Perfect.
She talks to the teacher, nothing he can hear, snd watches as she slowly makes her way over to the spot next to him. Miles turns away, picking up his paint brush to avoid and other contact.
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me.
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me.
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you.
Unfortunately for him, Miles looks unapproachable. He looks like he should be friendly and open. He’s got those big, brown, shiny doe eyes and dimples. His face is dusted with freckles. His lips are big and plush. His nose sits perfectly in the center of his face, blending together nicely with every other feature.
However, people avoid him. He’s quiet and keeps to himself. Miles is sort of a mystery, someone people don’t know much about. He’s got eye bags and an RBF, so people leave him alone. Sometimes it seems as if he’s invisible.
Take me on a trip upon your magic swirling ship.
My senses have been stripped.
The girl sits down, taking out her supplies as she was most likely directed. Tense hands moved shakily. Her breaths were harsh. Her eyebrows furrowed tightly against her forehead. She was nervous.
With a skip of his heart, Miles clears his throat. Her head snaps over quickly, eyes wide with anxiety as he stared her down.
My hands can't feel to grip.
My toes too numb to step.
“Uh..I’m Miles.”
She hesitates, biting the inside of her cheek before nodding.
“Y/N.”
Miles doesn’t look away. Y/N peeks over at his canvas. Her lips curve down into a smile, any trace of her previous fear gone. Her lips pressed together tightly, eyebrows raising. No tension, no anxiety.
“You’re really talented.”
“…Thanks.”
Her smile did not falter. She looked at him for a moment, and that one moment felt like an eternity.
Her nose, cheeks, and lips were a blend of heaven sitting on her face. Her hair was smooth and clean. Miles swore her eyes looked like stars.
Y/N was definitely beautiful.
Wait only for my boot heels to be wandering.
I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade into my own parade.
Cast your dancing spell my way, I promise to go under it.
“What, uh,” Miles spoke again, “what class was you coming from?”
He watched as Y/N fumbled with her schedule, a blue piece of paper crumpling in her hands.
“I have Spanish II, but I was in the office.”
Miles nodded, a small simper forming across his lips.
“I’m in there, too.”
Y/N grinned at him, eyes squinting slightly. It was almost bright.
Though you might hear laughing, spinning, swinging madly across the sun, it's not aimed at anyone.
It's just escaping on the run.
“I’ll walk with you, tomorrow?”
It came out as a question, and Miles would be lying if he said that didn’t surprise him. There was a fuzzy, warm feeling in his stomach that, for a second, made him question if he was getting sick.
Y/N chuckled, a simple melody that sent flowers blooming across his skin. It felt like goosebumps, but much more intense. The sensation matched that of bathing in the sun.
“I’d like that.”
And but for the sky there are no fences facing.
And if you hear vague traces of skipping reels of rhyme to your tambourine in time
Y/N glanced over to a small group of kids sitting diagonally from them. They were watching intently, eyes wide with curiosity. As quickly as it came, Miles’s almost cheerful expression fell back into place. The corners of his lips dropped, so did his eyebrows. In less than a moment, he was tense once more.
It's just a ragged clown behind.
I wouldn't pay it any mind, it's just a shadow you're seeing that he's chasing.
They turned away awkwardly, returning to their projects. Y/N sucked in a breath. There was tension within her chest. It was a sudden, sharp sensation in his fingertips.
“So did you just move here?”
Y/N smiled, nodding.
“Yeah, from New Jersey.”
Miles nodded along intently.
“How come?”
“Family.”
Questions and answers came as the two packed up their things.
And take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind, down the foggy ruins of time
The loud and obnoxious bell rang, and every other student in the class shoved past one another to get out of the room.
Far past the frozen leaves, the haunted frightened trees.
They walked down the hallways together slowly. For the first time, he felt as if he could ask questions. For the first time, someone answered. She answered.
Out to the windy beach, far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
“So, what’s Jersey like?”
“Well, it’s fun. The food is great.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
Miles snickered.
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky, with one hand waving free.
“Do you like New York?”
“I’m…adjusting.”
“Adjusting?”
“It’s easy to get lost, here.”
Smiling shyly, Y/N pressed her lips together firmly. Miles could almost feel the heat of embarrassment coming from off her face.
“You just need someone to show you around. It gets easy, after all while.”
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands.
“What’s there to show?”
Miles smiled, looking at the girl next to him as they stepped down the front steps of Visions Academy.
“The sky.”
There was a sudden melancholy feeling that ran down Miles’s spine. It was the same feeling he’d felt on those late nights, waiting for his mother to come home.
Miles did not remember his dad’s death. He didn’t remember the funeral. He just remembered the day the apartment felt less like home.
With all memory and fate, driven deep beneath the waves, let me forget about today until tomorrow.
“It’s the same sky as the one in New Jersey.”
“Different view.”
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me.
“You’ll show me?”
“Yeah. Yeah, I’ll show you.”
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
“Good.”
“I’ll show you my mural, too.”
“Mural?”
“For my dad.”
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me.
Miles nodded, smiling. She nodded back, humming in reply.
Miles had always been so much like his father. The same smile, the same attitude, the same wit.
Y/N looked at Miles curiously, and Miles became painfully aware of that fact. Birds sung in his lungs and trees grew in his mind. Fresh air.
“Let’s go, Miles. I’m expecting a tour.”
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you.

I'm tired of always being sad. How can I have a bubbly personality like Chuu ,Chaewon or Sana ?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
stop always being sad
🍓accept your emotions: the first step to stop being sad all the time is to accept and recognize your own emotions, this is advice that my psychologist gave me during my first session. so every time you will be sad, take a sheet of paper and write down everything you feel instead of keeping them inside you.
🍓 identify the causes of your sadness: try to understand the reasons for your sadness. and take action to change what can be changed.
🍓take care of yourself: it means letting go, resting, exercising, just doing what makes you happy.
have a bubbly personality
🍓practice having a positive attitude: even when things aren't going well, try to see the bright side of things and keep a positive attitude. You can repeat positive affirmations to help you.
🍓surround yourself with positive people: choose your surroundings carefully. go out with people with whom you can be yourself and who make you happy.
🍓don't take yourself too seriously: don't be afraid to laugh at yourself and live each moment with lightness.
🍓Get out of your comfort zone: try new activities, visit new places…
🍓practice gratitude: keep a gratitude journal and write down at least three things you are grateful for every day.
🍓uses the romanticizing life method: SCHOOL: Listen to music. create a playlist for different occasions like studying and walking the halls etc. bring coffee or tea in a cup when you are in class or in a library study in the library, in a cafe or outside if you can! take careful, efficient but pretty notes. use highlighter colors that match your aesthetic be organized and at least try to get good grades, you'll feel great! decorate your file cabinet, locker, desk, uniform, etc. it's so cute! always carry a book with you, it makes you look smart. LIFE: Start a journal in which you write down your feelings and be objective! start reading books before sleeping and light a candle during this time start watching series like Gilmore Girls or Gossip Gir!! create Pinterest boards of your mood and aesthetic do your skin care while listening to your favorite playlist give yourself flowers (or other small gifts) take photos every time you see something beautiful like nature spend time taking care of yourself I face mask, date, movie night, etc. you can romanticize your life the way YOU want. You don't need to watch Gossip Girl. You don't need to light candles. There are so many different aesthetics you can have. You can also mix them up or create your own aesthetic. Romanticizing your life is not about having a calm life full of candles. It's having the life you want.

svt as boyfriends ♡ jihoon edition
Tumblr media
member: woozi x reader
genre: fluff, bullet points
word count: 878
summary: jihoon’s boyfriend things
warnings: a very small mention of periods, and that's it
author’s note: hahah i actually forgot to write this time!!! but hey i'm on break from school now so I had time to whip this out and post if for all the woozidans who are about to knock my door down for forgetting abt our precious jihoonie's day anyway please enjoy !!! <3
Tumblr media
Jihoon is the epitome of a quiet bf
He just kinda exists and so do you and you both love it like that
He’s also the (obvs) producer bf
Quality Time
I think that Jihoon’s favorite thing to do with you would be to teach you how to write or produce music
Or even accompany him at the gym because even if you don’t work out too, this man cannot, for any reason, miss leg day
He likes showing you what he is interested in, and of course, you love listening to him talk about his hobbies
I think he would also be the type to just…enjoy whatever you like, too
For example, you would have a show that you both specifically watch together, and maybe even read a book together and talk about the characters in them you liked or something
Also !!! coffee dates !!! Y’all would totally have a specific date night on like Thursdays or something and you would always so to a coffee shop or a cafe or something and sit together and talk aaa he’s so sweet
Cringy movie scenes like a large milkshake with two straws is the perfect way to summarize these dates too
Words of Affirmation
Surprisingly, I don’t think Jihoon would be big on pet names or nicknames…he’d just stick with your name or a nickname you like being called
He says it makes it easier to not call you something embarrassing in front of his friends, but we all know its because if he makes nicknames, you will too and he refuses to be called something cute in front of other people
Always compliments you!!! And encourages you!!!
“Y/N-nie, you’re working so hard, of course you’ll do great on that exam”
Or even “Y/N-nie you’re such an amazing person and I am glad that you’re with me”
Jihoon cannot physically or mentally take a compliment so if you compliment him back he’ll just be like “thanks…?” before destroying you in a compliment war
Mans likes words so ofc like his quality time, he would write the most perfect songs ever for you and they would perfectly express his love for you in ways he would otherwise not be able to comprehend
Physical Touch
We all know this man is a cuddle-bug on the inside, so of course that means that Jihoon has his needy time aka he must be the little spoon: no ifs, ands, or buts
I think Jihoon would appreciate a good back hug from you if you’re taller than him, and if you’re shorter, he loves when you rest your head on him :(
I don’t think Jihoon is one for PDA, obviously (poor Hoshi) so there would be barely any proof to an outsider that y’all are actually dating to begin with
Likes to keep hand-holding to a minimum, especially when in the studio, but he doesn’t mind when you sit with him and put your legs over his lap
Or even play with his hair while he is working !! He likes soft things just only when you guys are alone together
He’s just a shy baby fr
Acts of Service
When he comes home late, he makes sure that the apartment is tidy and clean before showering and going to bed because he knows it stresses you out seeing a messy place as soon as you wake up
Cannot make food for the life of him please do not allow him in the kitchen unless he has a very specific task (he has zoned out while humming new melodies too often and burnt food is not a pleasant smell for your apartment)
Always makes sure that you’re phone, watch and computer/tablet are plugged in at the end of the night, because you need them to be just as prepared for the next day as you
He would totally get sad if you do all the cleaning by yourself because he says that you work too hard making the messes, you don’t need to be cleaning them too
You say the same thing to him when the boys make a mess in the living room when they are drinking and you offer to help clean up
If you have periods, when you are getting close to it starting, he makes sure that your products are always stocked up so you don’t have to worry about getting anything
Gift Giving
Two words: Spotify playlists
Jihoon would be over the moon with both making them for you and also receiving them from you
I feel like Jihoon is also the type to just randomly show up with something and hold it out to you and just say “this make me think of you so I got it”
Is super embarrassed when he does so but you love it so he’ll get over it when he sees how happy you are
Is definitely not one for huge and expensive gifts like jewelry, cars and all of that stuff, but loves getting little trinkets and stuffed animals for you because let's be real: who doesn’t like a really cute and soft plushie?
Doesn’t like receiving gifts because he feels bad when others spend time and money on him but >:( how dare he!!! He needs to be appreciated!!!

P.S. I might write a pt.2 to this one, if there's enough ppl interested in reading it. Pt2 will be closer to what Anon requested tho, so not as whatever tf this is
Tumblr media
"Think before you speak" Alicent, his mother, told him once after her hand had collided with his face.
But in order to do so, Aegon first had to learn how to listen. He'd never liked listening to others. He saw no point in learning anything from them. Prince Aegon had his own ways of moving through life.
"If you ever wish to know what it is to be well satisfied, all you have to do is ask." The Prince said as he made his way back to his seat.
From the corner of his eye, he could see his wife's pained expression. She didn't say anything, only stared down at her hands that were resting in her lap, fingers digging in. Angry tears threatening to spill from her dark brown eyes.
The woman made no move, even when her younger brother, Jace, slammed his hands on the table as he got up. All she did was shake her head from side to side, teeth clamping down on her tongue until she could taste the blood.
Not long after, music filled the room, expelling the silence. The Princess had turned to stare at her brother and aunt who were dancing, with a sad look on her face. The things she'd give to have Aegon offer his hand to her the way Jacaerys had done to Halaena. Instead, her husband was staring down the two, taking sip after sip from his cup.
────────────
Strong. Strong. Strong.
The word echoed in her head. She turned to look at Aegon, eyes urging him to do something. Say something. Anything.
The wolfish grin on his face said enough. He wouldn't stand up for her, wouldn't protect her from his brother's harsh, cruel words.
The Princess rose to her feet, muttering excuses as she walked past her brother and out of the room.
As she reached the door, a loud bang came from behind her. The woman turned around, a shocked gasp tearing through her bloodied lips. Aegon was holding Luke by the neck, pinning him down on the table. Aemond shoved Jace, the boy falling to the ground then quickly getting back up.
She used the moment to slip past the heavy doors.
────────────
She stared down at the burning logs in the fireplace, her grip on the book she was holding turning deadly as the doors flew open.
"Oh, how did you get here before me?" Aegon giggled as he made his way over to her, feet stumbling.
He was drunk. Again.
"I left hours ago." She sighed as she closed the book.
"You did?" The Prince let out a confused sound. "When?"
"Shortly before you slammed my brother's head into the table."
Aegon came to stand before her. He took the book from her hands and placed it on the table next to her. Then, ever so slowly, he sunk down to his knees, chin coming to rest on her leg.
"Well, the little twat deserved it." His finger went under the skirts of her dress, then trailed up. "Not my fault he doesn't know his place."
The woman squeezed her thighs together before his finger could go any further. She looked away from the man.
His brows furrowed, a look of puzzlement and slight hints of anger twisting his fine features.
"Are you angry with me, wife?"
She bit down on her tongue once more, blood gushing out of the fresh wound.
"No." The word came out as a whisper. "Just disappointed..."
His hands dissappeared from under her dress. Aegon grabbed her wrists with one hand, the other reaching for her face. Nails dug down as he turned her to look him in the eyes.
"Come again?" He hissed out, thumb rubbing over her bottom lip.
The woman pushed him away, Aegon falling on his back. Then she got up, leaving him to stare up at her in shock.
"First you offer your bed to my cousin, the one that is to marry my brother." She took a step towards him, Aegon crawling away. "Then your fucking brother insults me and my family in front of everyone."
Another step. Her tongue darted out of her mouth, licking away the blood that was trailing down her chin.
"You lay your filthy hands on my brother..." His back hit the wall. "...And now on me?"
Her knee met Aegon's face, blood splattering everywhere. The Prince sobered up fast. There was no anger left in him. Just fear. And desire. And lust.
"I am strong, husband." She said as she kicked him in the ribs, the man curling in a ball. "I am a Strong."
Aegon tried to hide his face, to hide himself from her.
But there was nowhere to hide. Not now. She'd been so patient with him. So understanding. She never demanded anything. Let him run around, chasing his whores. Let him drink himself stupid, then crawl into her bed. In her.
Her fingers ran through his silver-white hair. Then the hand formed into a fist. She pulled him up.
"Harwin Breakbones' blood runs through my veins. You know it just as well as I do." Aegon hissed, hands reaching for the one that had pulled him back on his knees. "Trust me, next time you do something like that..."
Aegon's ears started ringing. She'd slapped him. Hard. Harder than anyone had ever struck him before.
"...I will..." Followed by another slap. "...break..."
Aegon groaned as she pulled him up, so he could stand on his feet. Then she slammed the same hand she'd used to pull him, against his throat. The Prince's head smacked against the wall behind him. She squeezed.
"...each and every bone in your body."
With how close she was to him, Aegon could feel her breath fanning over his neck. He choked as her grip got bruisingly strong. Small white dots appearing in front of his eyes, hiding her angry face from him.
"Strip." The woman said. "That's why you came here in the first place, right?"
Two shaking hands reached for the clasps of his doublet. Aegon undid them quickly, letting the piece fall to the ground as he tried to unbutton his undershirt.
"You wish to act like a wild, uncivilized whore..." She pushed him away, tearing through the buttons of his silk tunic and making them fly out in all directions. "So be fucking it. You'll be treated as such."
A sound came from deep inside her chest. She was laughing. A low, short laugh. Her hands dropped back to her side.
"Not my fault you don't know your place..."
Then they went back up, to Aegon's breeches.
"But you'll learn."

Roomies 7
Final Chapter | ~4.2K
A/N: This story has come to an end. I hope you all enjoy it.
Warnings: Lots of feelings, smut, a bit of talk of vomit. I wrote this, and I'm publishing it. As with the rest of this story, I chose not to spend a lot of time dwelling on the details.
---
You don’t think about Eddie. No, you don’t do that. You don’t think about what he thinks when he reads the note you left for him. You don’t think about the anger, the sadness, the confusion he must be feeling. You don’t know what he’s feeling. How could you, when you’ve hidden yourself from Eddie’s feelings since you became his unexpected roommate.
You’re a selfish person. You can admit that now that you’re not face to face with him, not listening to his sleepy snores through the too thin walls of your shared apartment. Not pressing your nose into the throw pillow on the couch trying to catch the ghost of his scent when he’s not home. Sitting on the couch in your sister’s townhouse across town from your own apartment, you feel it happening. You’re putting distance between you and Eddie. Brick by brick, you are expanding the road that sits between the two of you, and soon you’ll not even be able to cross it. Too much space. That’s fine, you’ve decided, because the only way out of this is with that distance, and maybe in the end you’ll find a way to salvage what might be left of the friendship that will always connect you.
“Oh, is that what we’re doing again today?” Jamie is making her way from her kitchen through the living room. It’s Friday, she has work this morning.
“Doing what?” You ask her, running your hand down your face and bracing yourself for impact. You can already feel the welcome has worn thin, and it’s only been 2 days since you showed up with an overnight bag asking for sanctuary.
“Moping. Sitting in your sweatpants and moping.” Jamie looks at you with her typical disapproving older sister expression. “Nobody died, you know. You’re being so dramatic. Just go talk to Eddie.”
“I can’t talk to him right now. It might ruin everything. I can’t lose him as a friend.” You tell her. This is the same thing you’ve been telling her since you walked through her front door. Instead of the sympathetic look she gave you on that first night, this time she rolls her eyes.
“Yeah, because everything seems so great right now. I hate to have to be the one to tell you this,” you know she does not in fact hate to be the one to tell you whatever it is she’s going to say next, “but the damage is done. You can’t rewind the clock. Take a shower, get your shit together, and get the fuck outta my house. I love you.”
Jamie strides back over to you and gives you a kiss on the forehead before turning and sprinting back towards her front door. With a bang of the door, she’s gone. You know she’s right, and the time away from Eddie has done nothing but make you more miserable than ever. You take the shower. You pack your bag. You put on jeans and your favorite sweater of Jamie’s, a small revenge that will take her months to realize. You go home to face whatever is left of your friendship with Eddie, and pray to the gods devils that he will accept what you’ve decided.
Friday. You promised him you’d be home. Time to face the music. Time to tell him that you’re sorry, and that you’re moving out.
Eddie’s been fine. After that first night, when he went down to the bar and drank until he puked in the sink of the men’s room, he had an epiphany. It was simple really. While the whiskey rose in his throat, the lightbulb went off. He wasn’t the first person to come to big decisions in that bathroom, he was just the most recent. Only two months prior, Lenny Hendricks had done a line of the sick that is now covered in Jack Daniel’s scented bile, and decided he was going to go to medical school. Maybe it’s something about the poetry scratched on the walls. As Eddie cleans his mess, he sees a fresh scrawl next to the mirror - Just start the set on time. She’s not coming.
Eddie had walked out of the bar that evening with a sense of purpose, regardless of the sour smell of his favorite Metallica tee. He walked up the steps to his apartment and went to bed knowing that it was all going to be ok. Everything would be right soon enough, because it had to be. How could it not be? He’s been so stupid. No more, though.
It’s heavy and weighing you down as you look up the stairwell to the dimly lit hallway. Someone, probably Eddie but you don’t know for sure, replaced the light with a red bulb sometime before you moved in. It suits your mood right now, the uneasy red tinted shadows trailing behind you as you ascend the stairs, the dread in your guts making your movements slower than normal.
You stand at the door and look at it. Do you knock? Do you use your key? Do you turn tail and go back the way you came, and check into the Super 8 Motel down the road until you can find your own shitty studio apartment that doesn’t make you wonder who you are and what the fuck you’re doing every time you step foot through the door? You try the knob and find it turns easily under your grip. So, you sigh and walk in.
Eddie is in the kitchen, back to the door. He’s wearing your apron, hands deep in a sinkful of soapy water. He looks back and smiles easily when he sees you with your duffel bag still hanging off your shoulder. This is not the way this scene played out in your head. The counters are clean, bottles of beer and cans of soda all sitting in the plastic bin underneath the side table next to the refrigerator. Is that -
“- did you bake bread?” you question, dropping your bag and heading to the rack sitting on the counter with a round loaf sitting prettily.
“Uh huh,” Eddie’s wiping his hands on a floral dish towel he has hanging from where the apron strings are tied together around his waist. “Smells good, don’t it?”
“Did you clean?” Another question that doesn’t need an answer, the proof is in front of your eyes.
“Don’t act so surprised. Who do you think took care of this place before you moved in? Gareth?” Eddie shudders at the thought.
You nod, not in understanding, because you don’t, but you nod because you accept what your eyes are seeing. Eddie’s fine. The place is fine. He didn’t burn it to the ground when you walked out of the door. You didn’t find him curled up in a ball on his bed. He didn’t punch a hole through the cupboard next to the sink when he found your note.
Eddie’s fine. So you nod, and make your way down the hallway to your bedroom, leaving Eddie in the kitchen. Your room, at least, is exactly how you left it. Bed unmade and drawers left open. A testament to the speed run you made out of this place. You shake your head, how stupid you’ve been. Eddie’s fine. This is all in your head, and there’s nothing else to it.
You startle at the quiet rapping of knuckles on your door. From the other side, Eddie says, “I made Wayne’s famous chili earlier. Want that for dinner, or wanna go out and get something?”
Wayne’s chili is your favorite. It’s the grape jelly he adds to it. You asked him so many times over the years for the recipe, but he wouldn’t budge. He won a cook off the year after you and Eddie graduated from high school, and that was when you discovered the secret. He didn’t know you were standing in the doorway of the kitchen trailer that morning, watching him take a jar of Welch’s grape jelly from the cupboard and unceremoniously dump it into the crock pot he had set up in the corner. He let the meat and jelly cook down before he added a couple of handfuls of diced jalapenos and a mixture of dried herbs.
“You got any Jiffy?” You asked him, leaning your head on the wall next to the door imagining it’s Eddie’s shoulder. You brush the door with the tips of your fingers and wait for his answer.
“Of course. Who do you think you’re talkin’ to?”
You’re talking to Eddie, and he would never forget the cornbread.
You re-enter the kitchen to find the table already set, cornbread still steaming in the cast iron pan on the stovetop. The crock pot full of chili, a twin to Wayne’s own crock pot, sits in the center of the small table. Cheese, sour cream, and Cholula are laid out along with the bowls and spoons.
“Wow, Munson. You know how to make a girl feel special.” You head over to the cornbread intending to pinch a taste of it, but Eddie slaps your hand away. “Ow. I take it back, you’re a tyrant.”
“Sit down, please. I’ll get your cornbread, don’t fuck with it.” Eddie has a potholder and takes the hot skillet over to join the rest of the food on the table. “Let’s eat, Baby.”
Baby, baby, baby, baby. The word plays over and over in your head while you float to the table. Baby.
Eddie puts a piece of cornbread in your bowl, and ladles chili on top of it. The way you like it. Baby. You watch his face, and he gives you an easy smile. Another one, like the smile he gave you when you walked in the front door. You suddenly feel like the ground is not as firm as you imagined it. Baby.
“How’s Jamie? She still got that stick firmly up her ass?” Eddie asks as he sits down across from you. You laugh, snorting a bit of chili upwards into your sinuses. You cough and take a drink of the lemonade he has set next to your bowl.
“She’s same as always. She practically threw me out this morning. She sends her love.” You reach for the hot sauce and splash some into your bowl. It’s good, but you think it lacks the heat of Wayne’s normal recipe.
“I’m happy you came home to me.” Eddie’s words come out easily, and you’re left yet again feeling like the floors are tilting a little.
You say nothing, just look at him with your spoon held in front of your face. Frozen, a deer in the headlights that are Eddie’s chocolatey eyes sparkling at you. You’re starting to wonder if you missed a very important conversation somewhere along the way.
“You know, I realized something important when you left. That first night was… not great, but I think it was a good thing. We’ve been dancing around each other for a while now, and having you not in the apartment got me thinking about a lot of things.” Eddie’s talking, seemingly unaffected by your stunned silence. He just keeps on going, looking at you straight in the eyes with that small smile on his face.
“I was thinking about how much it hurt to think of you not being in this apartment with me. Which is crazy, right? It’s not like you moved in here with some kind of long term plan to stay. We both knew it was the right thing for right now. So, why was I crying when I found your note?” Eddie takes a big bite of chili and looks to you in anticipation. He wants an answer, you realize.
“I don’t know, Ed. Why were you crying?” You ask him and place your spoon back into the bowl. Your hand moves instinctively to stroke the back of the hand he has resting on the table. “I’m sorry.”
“Because, Baby, I’m in love with you.” Eddie’s voice is firm. His words are spoken honestly, leaving no room for you to doubt them. You want to run, to stand up and bolt for the door. Eddie’s eyes hold you in your seat. Even as the floor beneath you feels ready to open up and swallow you whole, his gaze is steady.
“Eddie,” his name is a whisper, the breath from your lungs. You had thought that night with sighs of pleasure bleeding through the wall that separated the two of you was the point of no return. You were wrong. That point is right here in front of you. It’s sitting between you, Eddie, and the chili pot in your shared apartment. “What if it goes wrong?”
“What if I get hit by a car tomorrow? What if a tornado runs through town and takes me away? What if the sun explodes and burns us all up?” At some point, Eddie turned his hand over to hold your own. “I know you, and you know me. I’m telling you right now, I am in love with you. I want you to stay here, and I want you to bring your shit into my bedroom and make it ours. And if you tell me you don’t want that, ok. Fine. But the damage is already done, Baby. I can’t go back to not feeling like this, and I’m done lying to myself about it. You do what you gotta do, but don’t tell me you’re not feeling something. I know you.”
Eddie gets up without any preamble and begins to fill the sink with sudsy water, leaving you sitting stunned at the table with a bowl of chili that is now room temperature. You push it away from you and begin picking at the edge of the cornbread that’s left in the pan still at the table. And then you hear Eddie whistling quietly while he cleans up. A new feeling begins to creep inside of you, a familiar feeling. You’re annoyed with him.
“So, you think you can just decide that this is how it is, huh? That I’ll come home, you’ll pour your heart out, and I’ll do the same. And - what? Happily ever after, until you decide you’re bored with me? Because I fucking know you too, Eddie Munson.” Annoyance built to anger with every word that you spoke. You stood, grabbing your bowl of cold chili and head over to scrape it out into the garbage. Eddie’s whistling stopped.
You drop the bowl into the water, pushing Eddie out of the way of the sink with your shoulder. You turn to head back to the table to start putting away all the dinner fix ins, but stop dead in your tracks when a wide palm grabs your forearm. He pulls you close so that you have to look up to see him. He places both hands on your face, moving hair that’s fallen over your eyes so he can see you better.
“You don’t understand, so let me be very fucking clear,” his words are a whisper, his warm breath fanning over your face, “I have been in love with you for a very long time, Baby. I just didn’t know that’s what it was. But I know now, and this is it. I can’t make you believe me, and I can’t make you love me back. I just need you to understand, this is not just a fleeting thing.”
You reach up and push the curls away from his face to see him better. Bare faces staring at each other, the truth of this thing holding you in your places. You bring your hand to the back of his neck and tangle your fingers into his hair. You form a fist and squeeze tight. His mouth opens at the feeling, and you stare at him.
“When? When did you start loving me, Munson?” You hold his hair a little tighter. His eyes open again, pupils blown out by your touch and your words.
“Remember that summer when you bought that red bikini?” He asks. You see his cheeks are turning red, and with this close proximity of bodies, you can feel a bulge growing in his pants. You stand up higher on the balls of your feet.
“You’re a pervert, Eddie.” There’s no bite in your words. You turn your face just as he leans down to bring his mouth closer to yours and whisper in his ear, “I bought that bikini because I wanted you to notice me. The way you noticed those girls with the mini skirts and bad perms that hung out at the bar when you played your shows.”
You kiss the skin of his neck and are rewarded with a whimper from Eddie. His hands are gripping your waist, hard enough to leave a mark. You kiss his jaw and move down his neck stopping along the way to press your nose against his skin and breathe him in. You can feel him swallow against your lips. He loves me. You think that maybe you can try to believe it.
“Look at me.” His words vibrate against your nose as it runs along his adam’s apple. You look at him, desperately wanting the kiss you know he’s going to give you. Aching for it. He tells you, “I am so in love with you.”
Eddie tastes like chili, lemonade, and cornbread. Not at all unpleasant to your senses. Kissing Eddie is unlike kissing anyone else. The secret place inside of you that’s been hidden for so long has his light shining on it. His tongue dances against your lips, and you meet it with your own. A slow waltz, mouths moving together, noses brushing noses. Your faces are pressing together, trying to absorb as much of this moment as you can before you have to break apart. And then it’s heavy breathing, his sweaty fringe against your forehead.
“Fuck, do you feel that?” You don’t answer his question with words, but with your hands reaching under his shirt to feel his skin under your fingertips. “Baby, please.”
“Eddie,” his ears perk up like a dog’s at the sound of his name. The way it comes out like a whine. It’s that needy way you said his name on that movie night, and it grips him somewhere deep in his belly.
Eddie drops to his knees on the kitchen floor, head resting against the fly of your jeans. He’s nuzzling you, in an animal way, fingers gripped at the waist of your pants. He can smell you through denim and cotton. It’s not enough. He makes quick work of unbuttoning and unzipping, of peeling back the skin of the fruit his mouth is watering to taste. Your bare ass is pushed against the counter before you realize your pants have been completely removed, and he hooks a leg over his shoulder.
Eddie’s bulbous nose is fully breathing in your scent from the damp cotton of your panties. His nose is brushing against that hard button, and he’s smelling the way the blood is rushing to it. A coppery musk just for him. His finger pushes the cotton to the side so he can finally taste and feel you against him, and his whining mouth sends a rumble of pleasure through you. It’s like this, with his knees on the tile floor of your shared kitchen that he finally, finally, finds himself able to openly praise you until you’re shaking in rapture. The veneration of your body by this devotee is as genuine and beautiful as any congregant in any church the world over.
The food is still on the kitchen table, too far gone to save, but neither of you can care. The moonlight casts shadows around the otherwise dark room, it highlights the way your bodies move together. Joining, embracing, loving, and resting. And then it starts again. The moments your bodies are connected feel eternal, and as soon as you separate you feel an inexplicable grief. What is this, is something you have not voiced wonder in your mind.
No other man has made you weep this way. At the sight of the tears streaming down your face, Eddie’s cock buried deep inside of you, he did not wipe them away. He let his tongue taste it, running the firm tip up your cheek and under your eyelid. The feeling unravels that knot in your gut, and not for the first or second time tonight. And just like the other times, Eddie rocks himself with the wave of your orgasm, whispering into your ear, I love you, I love you, I love you.
It’s 4:30 in the morning when your bodies finally force a halt to your incessant love making, but your mind is wide awake. Eddie’s sweaty head rests on your breast, an arm lays heavy over your belly. You think he may be sleeping, but you need to quiet the thoughts that have started to invade your brain.
“Ed,” you shake his shoulder a little and he moans, “how do you know you love me?”
You feel a twinge of embarrassment at the question, but you need to hear his answer. Somehow, despite it being Eddie, you don’t know if you can trust it. What is love? It’s something you’ve learned you can’t trust. You try to not think of Drew, and fail. But it’s not just him, that most recent mistake - the list goes on and on. What is love, but a promise of future disappointment.
“I just know.” His breath fans out across your chest, and your nipple peaks at the feeling. Traitor.
“Well, did you just know every other time you loved someone? What happens if it’s like when you were with Naomi? Or Sandy?” You know it’s wrong to say these names in this sacred space, but the question needs to be answered. There’s a small spot that itches inside of you that threatens to grow. A spot, that if left to grow, will force you up and out the door. You know it, and you know Eddie knows it, too.
Eddie’s face peels from your skin so he can look to you. He runs a finger along the shadows of the lines of worry creasing your brow. It’s so tender, so loving. You feel a tear leak from your eye, unbidden.
“I don’t think I loved them,” Eddie says while his thumb rubs away the moisture on your cheek, “or maybe I did. I don’t know, I can’t remember. But, Baby, I’ve never felt this before. This is - this is it.”
“What does that mean, Eddie? This is it? Like, what, you wanna run down to the courthouse and get married? Want me to pop out a whole litter of mini-Munsons? What does ‘this is it’ mean?” Your voice is rising in frustration, but Eddie doesn’t turn away. He keeps his gaze steady on your face. He’s looking for something there.
“Baby, you don’t have to feel any particular way right now. You know that right? I’m not asking for anything. I just want you to know how I feel. I love you, and I’ve loved you for a long time. Long enough that those other girls never got the whole of me when I was with them. I’m not telling you this so you’ll make me any promises. I’m just telling you because I fucking love you, and I need you to know it.”
And that’s when you realize it, something that scares the shit out of you. Because love, that overwhelming thing that beats inside of you when you look at Eddie, does not come with a guarantee. It does not promise anything more than what can be felt between the two of you. Love is pain, because nothing lasts forever. You know it now, and it’s a relief. The wrinkles at your temple smooth out, and you run your fingers through his tangled hair. You love this man, and that’s a fact.
“Ok, I believe you. I just have one more very important question.” Eddie’s face relaxes under the touch of your fingers along the side of his pretty nose.
“Ask.” He says, kissing your palm.
You hold his face still, gazing deeply into his eyes. Black pools in the dark room that threaten to swallow you up. “Eddie, would you still love me if I was a worm?”
The tension in the moment is gone, and Eddie giggles like the boy you knew years ago. He pulls you down and kisses you hard on the mouth, pressing his body into yours. Warm, sticky flesh vibrating with bubbling laughter.
“If you were a worm? I’d set up a little enclosure for you,” he points to a spot under the window where the moon hangs low in the sky, “just there. I’d get you some really tasty dirt, and I’d write songs about the worm that is the love of my life.”
Your smile is a beacon in the night, Eddie can see you glowing. You kiss his forehead and tell him, “I love you, Eddie Munson.”

hi! can i ask for more descriptions of the R in the poly!plasticsverse (i love the character descriptions btw, im just eager) like how tall are they and what music they listen to.
(also hi! is this the appropriate place to send my dumb little thoughts about them? because i know your requests are closed and i don’t wanna like overstep in any way. im also the person who submitted R getting up in the middle of the night to sleep [IT WAS SO GOOD AND SWEET AND CUTE, i love it so much] but i did not expect to get something written, and i felt bad because i didn’t know if that meant i made you feel like it was a request. if it did come off as a request, i am so sorry, i meant to be a gay little shit telling you how much it took over my brain to read poly!plastics)
HI YES OF COURSE YOU CAN SEND IN YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THE POLY!PLASTICSVERSE! PLEASE DO!
Tumblr media
Y/N is what @yungpoetfics calls "polyjamorous".
She vibes to female rappers with Regina.
She dances to vintage music with Gretchen. (Her and Gretchen have slow danced to Elvis in the kitchen late at night.)
She tries to listen to Kpop with Karen but can't get into it. (She doesn't tell Karen that so she doesn't hurt her feelings.)
She goes all "Thug Life" with Shane. (They showed up to school one day dressed like 2005 John Cena while blasting Tupac. Regina burned those clothes after Y/N wore them.)
She introduced Shane to emo rap. He became obsessed with Lil Peep in two days. (He tried to get face tats but Y/N shut that shit down quickly."
"Lil Peep looks good with them because he's handsome, you would look like you just got out of jail. Do you know what they do to pretty boys like you in jail? They make them bottom bitches." "Maybe I should go to jail." "NO!"
Her and Aaron listen to all kinds of things (but when they are alone, they blast One Direction).
Her and Janis have a similar taste, so they vibe with each others music.
Damian tries to get her to listen to R&B and she likes it.....kind of.
Y/N is a pop punk/emo at heart.
Y/N and Regina will jam to Paramore and Evanescence but Y/N's favorite band is Simple Plan.
Y/N went to a Simple Plan concert when she was a kid and it was the greatest moment of her life.
They got a picture of them meeting Simple Plan and it's their greatest possession.
She listens to classical music with Cady when she tutors Y/N. When they hang out on what they call "mother and son time", they listen to country. (Conway Twitty, Garth Brooks, Reba, etc.)
Regina and Y/N recreated the "Still Into You" video (Regina singing, Y/N playing guitar. Ballons, bicycles indoors, the whole thing) and posted it to their IG on Valentines Day.
It's their song.
Emo band hcs:
Y/N: Simple Plan
Regina: Paramore
Karen: Panic! At the Disco
Gretchen: Dashboard Confessional
Cady: Secondhand Serenade
Aaron: Fall Out Boy
Shane: Green Day
Janis: Avril Lavigne
Damian: is confused
Now, let's talk about about our favorite stoner.
Y/N is 5'6", she's just shorter than Regina.
She's got a scar on her nose from when she was a kid and she was jumping on her parent's bed and tripped over her dad's foot and busted her face. (I'm totally not projecting). And a birthmark on her stomach that is lighter than the rest of her skin (so it looks like a scar). When they get intimate, its her girlfriends favorite spot to kiss.
(She also wrote a song called My Girl for the plastics and plays it when one or all of them are sad.)

Hey! I loved your fic a lot, thank u for adding some fluff to his romance <3
You mentioned the requests are possible, what about Gale and Tav spending one of their nights in town? Maybe cafe, tavern or restaurant? Or just a slow walking promenade through the alleys? Or slow dancing somewhere near musicians? Whatever inspires you the most :D
Thanks!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The party had stopped at a quaint little town for the evening. You had practically begged to rest here. Why be outside in the cold dark night when you all could cozy up a fire and warm up to a little a drink. It would be great!
And you were right. The tiny town was filled with happy families, couples strolling along and a quaint tavern, perfect for your traveling party.
As the sun disappeared behind the horizon and night filled the air the town grew even more bustling.
Now the patrons of the tavern sat outside nursing their drinks and watching the locals dance to the music.
The party had settled on some outdoor seating as well, Karalach and Wyll loading up on ale, laughing boisterously. Astarion hung to the shadows, probably looking for a snack out of one of the clueless town's persons. And you sat with Shadowheart chatting like a couple of gossiping old ladies while Gale sat with you two, listening.
An upbeat song began, drawing your attention to the dancers.
"The aroma of the night is relaxing. It's a nice change of pace isn't it?" Gale asks, turning to you and Shadowheart.
You nod, smiling. You could definitely agree, after the countless battles and hours of exploring the party really needed this off time.
A sudden bump of your table had startled the three of you.
"Op! s-sorry!" A giddy, and possibly drunk, Karlach called as she dragged a nervous Wyll to the dance floor. "I told you Wyll, Blade of Frontiers. You will be bested by me! Karlach! ... uhh The Dancing Demon!"
You and Gale chuckled at their antics while Shadowheart shakes her head, amused.
"How long do you think before Wyll finds competing with Karlach is too hot to handle?" Gale asks jokingly.
You shake your head at that, "Haha, I thought you were a Wizard, not a comedic bard." You quip.
"I can be anything you'd like my dear. Maybe even a proficient dancer?" He look expectantly at you. His delivery is confident but the message in his eyes holds of other, more nervous intension.
You blush slightly at the implication of the statement. Opening your mouth, trying to formulate something to say but nothing comes out.
"I- uh."
"I can't remember the last time I danced." Shadowheart sighs, gazing at the dancers.
You turn to her and fan your heating face. Thankful that she unknowing shifted attention to herself you ask, "Really? Shar doesn't like dancing?" You joke, smiling a little at her.
"I wouldn't say that, its just... I can't remember the last time I danced, because of the...you know" She gestures to her head, "memory spell"
You make a silent 'oh' in realization.
"I'm not too sad about it though, I know I'll get my memories back. And in the mean time," She suddenly stands from her seat, standing in front of you. "I get to make new memories now. Starting with you!" She makes a quick motion for you hands and pulls you up to her.
You let out a surprised yelp as she laughs and she drags you over to dance. You look over your shoulder to Gale, who looks just as surprised but recovers and mouths for you to 'go on it's fine' with a smile. You give a apologetic smile in return.
Shadowheart, still holding your hands, spins the two of you. Dancing in a way that is reminiscent of young school girls. Twirling, spinning, jumping and laughing all the while.
You spot Karlach an Wyll who both shoot you friendly smiles. Wyll's a little more crooked and weary while Karlach gives you two red thumbs up.
Eventually you have traded dance partners as more people join the group. You switch from Shadowheart, to Karlach to Wyll. Even Halsin joins in during a slower song. You danced with strangers too, some old some young. Some flirted with you and some you made a friendly banter. You had noticed Gal tried to slip in a few times only for you or him to snatched up by a different partner. Both of you expressing contrite smiles to one another.
By the time you got back to your table, and Gale the whole town might as well have turned in for the night. The music was slower and the dance floor was lighted by dancing fireflies and the occasional ground lantern.
"Well, it's been a while." He says looking over to you. "You seem very popular."
You sigh falling into the chair, exhasuted. "I'm so sorry!" You exclaim, slumping to your knees and placing one of your hands on his own that sat on his high. "I had meant to answer you question ages ago, but well..." You chuckle, "I just I was preoccupied."
"Oh no my dear, I completely understand. Of course everyone would want to dance with a beautiful individual like yourself."
His voice is smooth, like a stream gliding over flat stones. His face is soft though his tone is flirty.
You gulp and roll your bottom lip between your teeth. You've danced with strangers all night, how could he make just taking to him overwhelming?
"Is something the matter? You seem, stunned." He asks a smug smile spreading across his lips
"Oh! No no. Not at all." You clear your throat. "Sorry I just...." You trail off, unsure of what to say.
"You know," he begins, taking your hand into his. "You never did answer my question. Would you like me to be your dancer?"
You nod breathlessly and he smiles down at you. His eyes filled with an indescribable softness.
He pulls you gentally to the dance floor and a song kicks up as you wrap your arms around his neck and he placed his hands on your waist. His chest presses to yours and the warmth from the contact warms the cool air around you. His shoulder is soft as you place your head upon it. Drinking in the smell of his, now clean, robes. They have a hint of petrichor and vanilla, as well as a slight lingering smell of ale. But that is to be expected near a tavern.
The playing song is cheerful, but romantic as it belows out it's slow rhythmed melody.
Gale's eyes haven't left you once since you'd begun dancing. Taking in the view of your eyes as they sparked from the light of firefies.
It's only when he begins speaking are you snapped out of your trance.
"You know, I've been trying to get to dance with you all night. I was almost convinced I wasn't going to just because I couldn't seem to even catch a small moment with you." He chuckles. "But I'm glad I waited. Dancing with you then would have been a privilege but I would have had lost you as soon as I got you. But this, dancing with you, watching your darling face lit up by the stars? This, this is a dream."
Footnote : Thank you so much for requesting! I hope this is sufficient to what you had in mind, this was really fun to write. Had me kicking my own feet. Sorry it took me so long to get to, midterms have been biting my ass. Love ya! - Witchy

Hey, I was wondering if you could do sumthin where hotch and reader are in a case in the middle of nowhere and they are alone in the suv and hotch gets anoyd, basically something like this https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cx4W797AxKT/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Reader gets mad and sad at him and won't talk to him for the rest of the day
At the end they make up
(They both are dating )
Yes, I'm 20 days late with this request.... and I'm very sorry.
Aaron Hotchner was your best friend. It started from your first day of working in the BAU. You slowly found little ways into his life. Bringing him coffee, offering to drive when you two were partnered together (even though he always told you no), listening to his favorite music when you were together, offering to watch Jack if he needed to attend a meeting on short notice and Jess was unavailable.
Then your friendship turned into so much more. Late night dinner runs, movie nights, hanging out with Jack, you name it. You would do anything just to hangout with Aaron. From that point on, you two started going out with each other.
Now you two have been dating for just over two years. Both been through good and the bad. Nothing that could stop you two.
But, this might have been the straw that broke the camel's back.
You two were riding in the SUV back to the hotel, both of you alone, driving in the middle of nowhere, and with being in the middle of nowhere means your GPS cut out on the way to the hotel.
Aaron was pulled over on the side of the road and you were just soaking in the moment you got to be alone with him. Aaron was trying to figure out what street we were on and how we could at least get back to the precinct.
You on the other hand just wanted to soak in the alone time with him. Maybe even fit a quickie in while on the side of the road. Something you always wanted to do, but him on the other hand was always afraid he'd get caught. But now it was perfect timing.
"Babe."
You waited for Aaron's response.
"Babe."
You heard a slight "hmm" but knew he was still focused on the map so you started tapping his shoulder.
"What!"
You didn't expect him to snap like that. It wasn't in a tone that you couldn't handle, but you could tell he was annoyed. That wasn't something you wanted to do to him. Not especially if you wanted to get laid.
"I was trying to get your attention. Why are you snapping at me."
"Because we're lost, in the middle of nowhere, I'm trying to get us back to the precinct and when you said 'babe', I responded but then you kept tapping me. You can just nudge me once or call my name, not having to keep tapping me over and over and over."
You turned your body towards the window and said, "turn the car around. Go back for about 2 miles, take a right, drive for about another 2 1/2 miles, then take a left. We'll run into the precinct."
You were good with directions. Always memorized how to get somewhere and how to get back.
Aaron started to drive. He knew he should apologize but he has a right to be annoyed. You both drove in silence back to the precinct, getting directions to the hotel and trying again.
When he got showered, he was met with you in bed already. He wanted to make it up to you, but when he saw you with your back to his side of the bed, he knew you were in no mood to talk or do anything for that matter.
"Goodnight honey."
"Goodnight."
You hated being mad at Aaron, but he deserved this. You were just trying to have fun. Aaron could be uptight, and you were the one who usually made him let loose and have fun. So when you did want to have fun tonight, you couldn't.
The next morning, you were up and out of the door before Aaron was out of the shower. Opting to go into work with Prentiss and JJ. You did leave a note to let Aaron know you went with them but that's so he wouldn't send a search party out for you.
The entire day you avoided conversation with Aaron. Keeping things strictly professional. You knew it was killing Aaron, just as it was killing you, but you were trying to prove a point.
You wanted to cry but you were still strong. It wasn't until Aaron finally cornered you in the locker room, slightly pushing you up against the wall, kissing you like you were the last thing to keep him alive.
"I'm sorry I snapped at you in the car. I was tired, crabby, and just wanted to get home. I promise I'll be better. I'm sorry, honey. But please, don't ever be that mad or sad with me ever again. I can't handle it."
"Okay baby. I forgive you."
When you kissed him back again you whispered against his lips.
"I was trying to get you laid in the back of the SUV last night, but right here might be even better."
You couldn't help but laugh when you saw the blush creeping on his face and then the whisper of a "I'll go lock the door."

You let out another deep sigh, at least your fifth in the last half hour (not that Chan was counting).
He embraces you, strong arms coming around you from behind. "Y/N, what's wrong, babe?" he whispers.
You lean into him, resting your head on his shoulder as you turn your eyes skyward. "It's been so long since I've seen a proper night sky with stars," you murmur back softly.
You're currently standing on the roof of Chan's dorm building overlooking the city. It's become one of your favorite places since you began dating. The night view of Seoul is beautiful with its shining skyline. But light pollution from the same skyline obscures the natural beauty of the night sky.
You tell him about how you grew up in the countryside and on clear nights it felt like you could see the entire universe unfolding in the sky. You explain how for years your father would lay in the grass with you and point out the various different constellations and asterisms. He would animatedly tell their stories and legends.
Chan listens to you reminisce fondly, but he can hear the sadness creeping into your voice. He draws you closer and presses a kiss into your hair, patiently waiting for you to continue.
You take a shaky breath and explain how although you lost your father to illness many years ago, you never lost his love of the stars. Whenever you felt sad, or overwhelmed in life you could turn to the night sky and imagine him with you. You would speak to him and find comfort in his memory. But here in the city you haven't been able to feel that same comfort.
You can barely finish speaking before you're choking back tears. He gently turns you around so that your face is pressed to his chest and lets you cry, your tears soaking his shirt.
Although you've only been dating a few months, Chan knows that you moved here more than a year ago. It saddens him to know that you've been missing the stars and your father for that long.
His hands idly draw soothing circles on your back and eventually your hiccuping breaths quiet. His soothing touch and the familiar scent of his cologne lulling you to sleep.
As he carries you down from the rooftop and puts you to bed, Chan resolves to take you out of the city for your next date. He smiles as he brushes your hair from your face. He has some planning to do.
✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧ Time skip ✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧
About a month later, Chan informs you he rented a small cabin for the weekend and tells you to pack a bag with comfortable clothes. Although you're not familiar with the area, you're excited to get out of the city for a couple of days.
You load your bags into the back of his car and get on the road. He's got a big smile on his face while you play music from the passenger seat. You sing along to all your favorites practically vibrating with excitement.
You're in the car for less than two hours when Chan announces you're here and pulls up outside a small but beautiful cabin. You quickly unbuckle your seatbelt and rush outside, breathing in the fresh air. He follows behind with the bags, grinning at your enthusiasm.
You spend about half an hour settling in before heading out to spend the rest of the day hiking in the nearby recreational forest. By the time you return to the cabin, you're tuckered out and turn in for an early sleep.
While you sleep, Chan prepares for the real reason he brought you out here. He takes a large blanket, some pillows and a couple smaller blankets outside to the small grassy clearing near the cabin. He lays out the large blanket on the grass and arranges the pillows. He leaves the smaller blankets neatly folded in case you get cold later.
At around midnight, he wakes you up with a gente shake and a kiss to the forehead. "Y/N, babygirl, wake up, there's something I want to show you."
You blink sleepily and stretch. "What's going on, Channie?" You ask through a yawn.
"Put on a sweatshirt and come outside with me?"
You nod sleepily and hold your arms.
He grins at you before slipping one of his big sweatshirts on you and picking you up. He carries you out to the clearing before setting you down on the blanket.
"Look up, babygirl! Let's say hi to your father."
You lie back on the pillows and look up at the sky before gasping and sitting straight back up. Out here the sky is clear and you can see the universe unfolding before your eyes.
"Channie! You remembered?" You exclaim. Neither of you had ever mentioned that conversation from the rooftop. You didn't expect him to remember and you definitely didn't expect him to plan something like this just for you.
"Of course I did," he says, grabbing your hand. "You mean everything to me, and I wanted to meet your dad."
You lay side by side holding hands as you look up at the stars. You begin speaking as if you were talking to your dad. You tell him about all your stress and worries and you tell him about Channie. About how he's the most perfect boyfriend. About how you think they would have gotten along so well.
Chan stays silent the whole time, but squeezes your hand every now and then.
Eventually you fall silent too, just staring up and the endless expanse above you, and that's when the first star falls.
You gasp and squeal, pointing up at where the streak was. "Channie, did you see?!" You barely finish your question before another streak appears in the sky. Then another.
Chan smiles at you and says "it's the Perseids, let's make some wishes."
You smile back and cup his cheek with your hand. You study the way his eyes seem to reflect the entire universe back at you. You slide your hand into his curls and whisper "I wish you would kiss me."
As he connects his lips to your in a soft kiss you think to yourself that you couldn't possibly wish for a more perfect boyfriend. If he’s by your side, you don’t think you’d ever need to see the stars again. You wish you'll STAY together forever.
You continue kissing under the falling stars until you both fall asleep in each other's arms
Little do you know, Chan made the same wish.

Begin again
Wanda Maximoff x Reader
Based on Taylor Swift's Begin Again.
Summary: You gave up on love after your most recent break up, until you meet a certain brunette that makes your heart skip once more.
Wanings (?) : past toxic relationship, fluff.
Tumblr media
- C'mon Y/N, it's gonna be fun! You're my best friend, you can't miss my birthday party - the voice of your best friend, Natasha, could be heard from the speaker of your phone.
You sighed. She've been trying to convince you to go to her party for almost 30 minutes now.
- I know Nat, and I'm sorry, it's just that I have a lot of work to finish - you said, not taking your gaze off from the computer in front of you.
- Tony is coming too, I'm sure he'll understand, and besides, what you're doing it's extra work you ask Tony to do, there's no need for you to finish it now, you already delivered your regular work.
You looked at the phone like Natasha could see your stare. Of course she knew it was extra work, you told her about it the last time you two talked.
- Natasha... - you said almost in a whisper, not thinking in any other better excuse.
- Y/N, i know it's been hard, but you can't keep drowning yourself in work, life it's not over and you need to stop isolating your life from the rest of the world... -
- I don't think I'm ready - you said - I don't want to ruin your party with my sad mood.
- You could never, everybody wants yo see you, we're the life of the party in every reunion Y/N.
- I know, but that was different... I am different now.
She huffed, pissed.
- Aghh I hate what she did to you, she never liked you to hang out with me... She made you a shell of yourself.
Your breath hitched at her words.
- I'm sorry, I didn't meant to say that, but you know I'm not angry at you... I'm angry at her - she paused for a second - Please, I want my bestie here - the redhead tried again.
You bit your lower lip, thinking for a few seconds.
You breathed deep in, containing the tears, only wanting for her to stop saying those things.
- Okay, I'll be there - you gave in before thinking more about it - I'll see you tomorrow Nat.
Your friend laughed happily in the other side.
- Yes! I'll se you...
You didn't heard the rest, you just hang up. The memories from the past haunting you down again.
- I'm just saying I don't like the way you are when you're with Natasha, all the effusive and noisy personality doesn't fit you... - she said one night when you were getting ready for a night out with your friends.
- But she's my best friend, I want you to meet her and get along - you told her.
- No way, you can go out all you want but don't drag me into this, I'm not going - she said with a disgusting tone.
You sighed.
- You shouldn't go either, it's better when you're not in that fastidious party mood Natasha puts you in, and you know I'm not a fan of you wearing high heels...
You frowned looking down at your pair of high heels asking to yourself what was wrong with them, but she got closer to you and hugged you from behind.
- Stay, I want you here too - she said, kissing your cheek.
You didn't say anything, just nodded.
- Okay, let me... - you let out a breath, disappointed - Let me change my dress and we can stay here.
She smiled happy, she had you in the palm of her hand.
- That's the girl I like - she said.
Against your own will, you changed your night outfit and sent a message to your friends apologizing for not going. But at the moment, you preferred to make your girlfriend happy, even if you weren't.
Audrey Anderson was your girlfriend over a year and a half. Since the moment you met her you put yourself into certain changes in order to make her like you more.
You stopped listening to some kind of music cause Audrey said she didn't understand it, even if there was nothing to understand.
Your clothes choices adjusted to the style she said it looked better in you, even if you felt weird about yourself, or if you wanted to try something new.
No matter how hard you tried, she always had something to say to make herself happier about you.
You used to please her cause you thought that was what love was about: make sacrifices for the other. You really liked her in the beginning and you were willing to make anything to make your relationship work.
Your friends noticed your change of demanour immediately and instantly began to hate your relationship, even hate your girlfriend herself. They were worried about you cause they felt you were losing yourself because of her. The toxic relationship you were in was like a black hole: it seemed impossible for them to drag you out.
That's the same reason she induced you to see them less a less everytime until the point you only saw them once or twice a month.
You noticed your changes too but you couldn't do anything, you wanted Aubrey, and she wanted you too.
Or at least that's what you thought.
Five months ago you started to notice changes in her. It started with her coming home later than she usually did, and when you asked her about it she only said she was working late or she went to have a drink with her friends.
Then it was really late when she came home. Almost 1 pm, the last time before your break up. Your friends told you to stop being so easy on her and confront the situation, but when you did it everything went down hill for your relationship.
Long story short, she was cheating on you, and you discovered it through her massages. And even when you caught her red handed she screamed at you for checking her phone behind her back, and called you an "obsessive toxic crazy girlfriend".
She blamed her cheating on your "behavior" and didn't even said sorry to you.
Now, you were trying to bounce back from that toxic situation she got you in. Your friends helped you a lot, but a break up it's never easy, and you've found yourself still crying from time to time.
You felt stupid. Why were you still grieving that relationship when she cheated on you? Even if one day she comes back saying sorry, you shouldn't forgive her.
But Audrey got deep inside your brain and sometimes you wonder if it was actually your fault. That's how love works, right? Maybe she failed, but it could've still worked if you solved that issue and just move forward.
You shook your head and closed your laptop desesperatly. All the what if's were driving you crazy.
That's how you found yourself knocking Natasha's door. It's been longer than five minutes and nobody has open the door yet.
You were about to call Natasha to tell her you were outside when someone interrupts you.
- You know, Natasha never hears her front door - a feminine voice tells you.
You turn around and you lose your breath for a few seconds. A (really gorgeous) brunette walks into Natasha's porch.
- I'm Wanda, Wanda Maximoff, I'm Nat's friend from work - she introduces herself with a smile.
You smile shyly too.
- I'm Y/N, Nat's friend from college - you say.
She nods politely.
- A pleasure Y/N, how long have you been knocking?
- A few minutes now, but you're right, Natasha doesn't hear anything.
She giggles and pull her phone off from her purse.
- Let me give her call.
You only nod again and some minutes later your redheaded friend is opening the door for the two of you.
- Wanda! Thanks for coming, it's so nice to see you! - Nat says hugging the girl.
- Nat! Happy birthday! - the brunette replied, hugging her back - I brought you a present, I hope you like it... - she said handing the gift to her.
- Ohh thank you so much! You didn't have to give me anything but thank you! - Nat said, now looking at your- Seems like you found our dear Y/N - she told Wanda, opening her arms for you to hug her.
Slightly smiling you accepted the affection.
- Happy birthday - you say in whisper, almost only for her to hear.
- It's nice to see you, you look good. How are you feeling?
You sigh.
- I'm better.
She smiles.
- You look better.
- Thanks - you say.
Natasha looks at you for some seconds before looking back at Wanda, who was watching the whole interaction.
- Let's go, everyone it's in the backyard, we have food and drinks.
You follow her and the evening goes smoothly. Reconnecting with your friends felt good; you experienced a happiness you hadn't felt in a long time. Everyone was delighted to see you, and though no one said it out loud, everyone was glad that you ended your relationship with Audrey.
While most of your friends were there, your mind couldn't help but think about the beautiful green-eyed girl you met at the entrance. Wanda kept her distance, mostly chatting with the few work friends of Nat's that she knew. Occasionally, you discreetly searched for her with your gaze, only to find that she was already looking at you. In those moments, you felt your cheeks turn red instantly, and you turned away, pretending you weren't looking at her. She didn't turn away and just smiled sweetly at you.
After the cake, when some people had already left, Wanda and you helped Natasha pick up some chairs and wash a few dishes so she wouldn't have to do it alone. Wanda was a sweet girl, and you couldn't help but smile just being near her.
- She was the first one to talk to me that first day, Natasha has always been really good to me, I was so lucky to become her friend - Wanda was sharing the story of how she met Natasha on her first day at work.
- I know, ever since high school, Natasha has always been like that. I was too introverted; I couldn't even look people in the eye - you recalled with a laugh - But she was kind, and she gave me the confidence to open up more. Thanks to her, I met my other friends.
You continued chatting with Wanda for a few more minutes until your friend Maria came to say goodbye to you.
- It was really great to see you - she said, giving you a hug - I'm glad you're back, Y/N, truly. You know we're all here for you - You gave her a half-smile before nodding - I love you, and I want you to be happy.
You didn't quite know how to react. People were congratulating you as if your past self had been absent or on a journey, as if they only now felt that their friend was back.
And that only made you feel worse. You could only ask yourself, "How did I let someone change me so much?"
Wanda, who had been analyzing your interactions that night, was uncertain about how to get closer to you. From the moment she met you at the door, she felt drawn to you. But you were reserved, and although she hadn't had the chance to talk to you much, she wanted to get to know you. She just wasn't exactly sure how to proceed to ask you out.
So, before the party ended, Wanda approached Natasha to ask about you. She was hoping for a short, perhaps even vague, response.
"She's just a bit shy"
"She's somewhat reserved."
Nothing prepared Wanda for the story that Nat told her. She didn't go into too many details since it was your private life, and she was essentially a stranger to you, but she provided the general context: you had a girlfriend who wasn't good for you. Wanda shared with Natasha that she had planned to ask you out.
After all that Nat had told her, Wanda was sure she would advise against it, maybe suggesting that you needed space or that it wasn't the right time for you to start a new relationship. However, Nat just looked at her with a small smile.
- I knew you two would get along - she said - Go ahead and ask her out. She might not say yes on the first try, but it would be good for Y/N to go out with someone like you. You're a good person, Wanda, and I trust that even if it doesn't turn into something serious, you wouldn't hurt Y/N in any way.
Minutes later, as you were saying goodbye to your friends, Wanda took advantage of the brief interaction to ask for your phone number.
- I just want to get to know you better - she said - If you're interested, we could grab coffee or have a meal together.
You hesitated for a few seconds. You glanced to your right and noticed that Nat was watching you and Wanda not so discreetly, hiding a small smile while pretending to sip from her glass.
- You don't have to say yes, I understand if you... - Wanda was trying to ease you out of the awkward situation, but your brain spoke before you could process what you would say.
- No, it's okay, I'd like to get to know you too - you replied with a smile, accepting Wanda's phone to enter your number.
As you lay in your bed at home, you thought about the interaction with Wanda. She was beautiful, you knew that very well. From the moment you met her, you noticed how lovely and kind she was. The brief conversation you had with her revealed she had a good sense of humor and that, in fact, you had several things in common. You knew that if you went to that coffee date, you would have a good time.
But something you couldn't shake off was this feeling that she would be the one to get bored with you, that she would realize you were dull and leave after the first date. Audrey always said it: she found you boring, no one would go out with you more than twice without realizing you didn't have much to offer, but you were pretty, and that was enough for her. But perhaps it wouldn't be enough for Wanda.
The sound of your phone snapped you out of your reverie. You looked at your phone and saw that an unknown number had sent you a message:
W: "Hey, it's Wanda. I just wanted to make sure you got home safely."
You unconsciously smiled and added her number to your contacts before responding:
Y: "Hi, I got home a few minutes ago. Have you arrived yet?"
W: "Yes, thank you for asking"
W: "So… about that coffee… when are you free?"
You took a few moments to think about your response. You weren't entirely sure if you wanted to go. Wanda seemed like an amazing girl, and you didn't want to waste her time.
Y:"Yeah, about that…"
W: "We can cancel it if you want. I don't want to pressure you into going if you're not comfortable"
You thought about saying that it would be better to cancel, that maybe you weren't looking to get to know anyone at the moment. But you didn't want that. You liked Wanda, and you were eager to get to know her. You gathered your courage and typed your response before you could second-guess yourself.
Y: "No, I don't want to cancel, it's just that I can't meet up until Wednesday. Is that okay for you?"
Her response arrived within seconds.
W: "Of course, see you on Wednesday"
You smiled and agreed on the coffee shop where you would meet. It was a place near your workplace and close to a park where Wanda mentioned she liked to go running on weekends.
When Wednesday finally arrived, you couldn't stop thinking about Wanda. You had been texting since that night, and with each conversation, you discovered how compatible you were. You couldn't believe you had so much in common with someone. It only heightened your nerves to a hundred percent for your date.
With Audrey, you didn't used to go on many dates. After she asked you to be her girlfriend, she stopped making an effort to make a good impression. The only times you went out, on your anniversary or something similar, the experience wasn't great. Audrey was always late, but she asked you to arrive early so you wouldn't lose the reservation. You would sit alone until she felt like showing up, and then she would only talk about her own things and issues. There was no space for you to share about your day or your work. In the end, you would pay the bill, and she would rush ahead to leave as quickly as possible.
After many failed dates, you stopped asking her out, even for special occasions. You didn't want to deal with the headache that came with going out with her.
That morning, you walked to the café where you would meet Wanda. Habit had you mentally preparing for her to arrive late, forcing you to wait for a while. But when you entered the establishment, you were greeted by the delicious smell of coffee and Wanda, waving to you from a table.
Seeing her there on time took you by surprise. You weren't used to that. You approached her with a smile, and Wanda got up from her chair to greet you.
- Hi, how are you? - she asked.
- Hi, I'm good, thanks. How about you? - you responded.
- I'm doing great, thanks for coming - she said, smiling.
Wanda approached the chair you were going to sit in and courteously pulled it out for you. It seemed like the simplest thing in the world. Basic courtesy. But the kind gesture melted your heart. Wanda took her seat again, not even noticing how nice the gesture was for you. But you did.
After placing your orders, you started making small talk. Wanda didn't want to push you into discussing more personal topics, but you felt quite comfortable with the conversation.
Gradually, you start sharing more about yourself. You tell Wanda about your job, your hobbies, which university you attended, how you met Nat, and discuss your interests. She listens attentively, contributing to the conversation when she feels it's appropriate.
But after a while, you pause, realizing that you've only been talking about yourself, and you worry that Wanda might be getting bored of hearing about your mundane life. You awkwardly apologize, but she reassures you that everything is fine.
- You're really interesting, Y/N - she said with a smile - Tell me more, seriously.
For a moment, you hesitated, but you saw the sincerity in her eyes, and that gave you the confidence to continue.
You shared stories about you and Nat in college. The story of your first party had her laughing a lot. It seemed strange to you that she thought you were so funny, but she was tossing her head back in laughter like a little kid. Audrey never told you that you were funny.
After a while, Wanda began to speak. That's when you discovered she wasn't from America but had migrated with her family from Sokovia, a country in Eastern Europe, when she was very young. You listened attentively, fascinated by her country's culture. She told you about her brother Pietro, her parents, and her job as a literature teacher at a local high school.
Soon, you discovered that she was just as much of an Adele fan as you were. You told her about all the albums you owned and the concerts you had been able to attend. Surprisingly, she had been present at some of those concerts, and both of you found it amusing to think that you might have crossed paths much earlier.
- Wow, you're the first person I've met with as many Adele records as me - she said, laughing.
You had seen her laugh throughout the date, but that smile she gave you when talking about Adele filled your stomach with a thousand butterflies. You wanted to make her laugh like that forever.
After nearly two hours, both of you had to leave. Wanda had to make it to her afternoon classes. You took out your wallet to pay, but she stopped you.
- No, please, I invited you, I'll pay - she said.
You insisted on at least paying for what you had consumed, but she flatly refused.
You exited the café and were ready to say goodbye, but Wanda asked where your car was. When you indicated that you had parked a block away, she started walking with you.
On the way, you thought about how different Wanda was from Audrey. Your ex-girlfriend would never have walked you to your car. Wanda was so lovely that you felt like you didn't deserve her. She was too good for you. You were about to tell her this, about Audrey and yourself, and how you didn't think you were ready for someone as amazing as her.
But Wanda kept the conversation going, picking up on a topic you had discussed during the date.
- Do you remember the movies I told you my family likes watch during Christmas? - she asked - They're going to screen one of them at a local cinema near my place. Would you like to go see it with me? It's next Saturday - she said, a little nervous about suggesting a second date.
Yes, you were about to mention Audrey, but no… you preferred to talk about those Christmas movies.
You told her it was a great idea, and she agreed to pick you up from your house. Audrey left your mind for the first time in months, and finally, you felt that the past was truly behind you.
You and Wanda said goodbye with a hug that made your heart race a thousand beats per minute. You got into your car and smiled as you watched Wanda walk to hers.
For the past eight months, you had been thinking that love wasn't for you. Audrey had made you feel so bad that you thought it was the end of the line for you. You believed that without Audrey, no one would love you again. You thought that love only was meant to brake you, made you feel like you were burning from the inside, and then just end. For months, you believed that you wouldn't love anyone again, you avoided meeting people to avoid the pain of seeing them go. But you met Wanda, and she made your heart feel alive again. You realized it wasn't over.
That Wednesday, in that café, you watched it beginning again.

Lavender Girl
Pairing: Joel Miller x fem!reader
Summary: A field trip [4.7k]
Warnings: financial stress, school fight, June once again introduces an ex, having a muse is creepy and weird, flirting that’s not flirting but it’s not not flirting, June putting her art history knowledge to work
Tumblr media
Most days, you're a good teacher. A teacher that students want to eat lunch with or inadvertently include in their silly TikToks. Most days, you're patient and kind and only have to raise your voice a handful of times, if only to be heard over the blanket volume level of teenage conversation. Today is not one of those days. "Guys!" You yell, pausing the music on your computer and turning to look at your class, obviously annoyed. "We're supposed to be talking about Picasso. I don't know why I'm hearing so much conversation about lunch." It's a lie. There was a fight between two students at lunch. It'd also been the topic of conversation in the teacher's lounge, but still.
"Miss, we already talked about Picasso!" One of your kids bemoans, and you raise your eyebrows at them.
"So, if I asked you right now, you could tell me what historical event his painting Guernica is supposed to depict?" You ask. The entire class goes silent as you wait for a response that never comes, and you sigh. "Please, do your work."
The day started with getting yet another email from another gallery, this time from down south, telling you they loved your work but not enough to showcase or buy it. Then, a text from your manager letting you know that paychecks will be late because of technical issues with the system, even though you're already beyond broke. Then, a sad text from Andie about how she's feeling homesick and misses you and wishes you could get on a plane to come see her. Then, to top it all off, an email from your ex, Henry, popped up the second you pulled into the school.
Hey, long time, no talk! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to reach out and let you know I've got an exhibition going up later next week and wanted to invite you to the opening. It's about-
You didn't read any further, anger and a wave of past emotions drowning you before you could. You and Henry were together all throughout college. You met during a freshman art class and were inseparable after that. He was tall, sensitive, and had a penchant for listening to country music when he worked, leading to many delirious nights spent crooning to Emmy-Lou Harris together. He surprised you with new paint and spontaneous trips to scenic parts of Texas to fuel your inspiration. You were happy for a long time. You even thought you'd marry him at one point. He wanted to be the next young, groundbreaking artist, making you his muse, no matter how many times you tried to assure him you were also an artist. Your work would go up in galleries and exhibitions, and everyone in your small program would gossip about the two of you. "He's so talented. It's insane," you heard one of your classmates say once. "And she's so beautiful."
The compliment dug under your skin and stayed there as your relationship failed. You didn't want to be a muse anymore. You stopped letting him paint you in various states of undress and started asking for more alone time to work on your own stuff. You went from being the perfect, polished doll he could position however he wanted and started living in your paint-stained jeans and old, ratty shirt. You started arguing more and more, first about little things like why he left his paint water cups everywhere, and then about big things like your decision to pursue teaching and the "inspiration" he found in an impressionable freshman. He suddenly moved out after graduation without a word, leaving you to nurse your wounds in a half-empty apartment for the rest of your lease, and you hadn't heard from him until this morning.
There's something more than the sting of hearing from him all these years later that bothers you. You're a high school art teacher struggling to make ends meet, and he's doing exactly what he set out to do. He's getting his work in front of his eyes and receiving praise for it. "Why do you wanna be a teacher when you can just be an artist?" He asked you one morning as you studied for your certification exams. "Or, at least, an artist's wife."
"And what if I'm not good at that?" You asked. "Then what? I'm just supposed to be your muse for the rest of my life? Have kids to fuel someone else's inspiration and have no time for my own work? Wither away while you go on to make art and give talks and become a cynic? Fuck that."
You stand by what you said, even all these years later, but there is an irony in that, even as a teacher, you don't have time to do your own work. Still, fuck that. The bell rings and signals the end of another class, and you quickly stand as students start packing up their stuff. "Okay, guys. Remember, your art history essay is due in two weeks! I'm excited to read all about everything you've learned since we started this unit. I love you, and please make good choices." You announce, hoping that at least some of them are listening to you, as they spill out of the classroom and the next students stream in. Ellie's sweet face is a welcome reprieve when she walks in.
"Hey Bellie! How's your day going, kiddo?" You ask, and she smiles. You'll swear up and down all day that you don't have favorite students, but if you did, Ellie would be one of them.
"Good. I have my signed permission slip for the art club field trip." She says. After your experience with Joel outside the bar, you couldn't sleep and knocked out all the field trip paperwork before falling asleep on your couch. But you weren't safe from his lips and broad shoulders, even in your subconscious.
"Oh, my hero! I've been meaning to remind everyone about those. Thanks for getting that in so quickly." You say as she hands the paper to you, Joel's scribbly signature at the bottom. Somehow, you're not surprised that the box indicating he wants to be a chaperone is ticked. "Perfect. Your dad knows when the field trip is?"
"Yeah. He wrote it down on his calendar and everything." She says, rolling her eyes fondly, and you laugh.
"Well, good, because I'm gonna need all the help I can get when I'm dealing with you guys."
"Hey!" She feigns offense as the bell rings, signaling the end of the passing period, and the last of your students comes running in. Ellie takes her seat near the front, and you grab your silly, colorful pointer to talk about Guernica, which is still proudly displayed on the board. After a quick art history lesson, you release them to work on the projects they've been working on for a week now. They still have a few more days before it's due, so more than half of them are slacking off quietly, which you're fine with. As long as you get a finished assignment at the end, they can do whatever they want.
You play quiet music as they work to help them focus and answer some emails. One email that catches your attention is from the parent of one of your students, Dalton, who's an amazing football player but is less than passionate about art, to say the least. You emailed his dad to let him know he was missing some assignments and could still turn them in late for only a slight penalty, but if he turns in nothing at all, you'll have no choice but to fail him. You also CC'd the football coach so he'd know the academic standing of one of his star players. Needless to say, you've been subject to a few not-so-nice emails from all parties involved.
Once you're done firing off another round of emails, you decide to step away from your computer so you don't have to see the next reply until absolutely necessary. Walking around the room to answer questions, give opinions, or just hear what's happening in students' lives always makes you feel better. In one period, you helped a handful of students put the finishing touches on their projects, heard the latest gossip, and talked one of your girls out of sending a nasty text to the boy who just broke her heart. And they say teachers aren't important.
The second you get a little bit of peace during your planning period, your phone buzzes with a notification. Given all the notifications and messages you've received today, you're hesitant to even pull it out of your pocket. But curiosity wins, and you open your phone to find a text from an unsaved number.
Is there anything I should bring to the field trip? Snacks, gum, alcohol?
You laugh to yourself and start typing a message back.
Alcohol won't be necessary, but it might be good to bring some lunch and a few snacks. I think we're gonna try to have a picnic or something at the museum.
Yes, ma'am.
You still feeling up to chaperone? Teenagers are no joke.
Do I need to remind you that I've raised two? I think I can handle a few more.
Oh, I can't wait to see this.
It can't be that hard, right?
On the day of the field trip, it turns out to be that hard. The only adults accompanying twenty teenagers to the museum are you and Joel. They're excited to be out of school and doing something new, but you can feel your migraine starting before you even get on the bus. Thankfully, the ride to the museum (and the traffic) calms them down, and they're more manageable by the time you arrive. A curator meets you outside the front doors and begins by walking your group through the outdoor sculptures, giving a little bit of history of the museum and the pieces themselves. The kids ask insightful questions and take turns snapping photos or even sketching a rough outline of the piece before moving on to the next. You stay at the front of the group while Joel manages the middle and back, silencing kids with a stern look. You fight a smile when you catch him and Ellie lingering at a sculpture, whispering to each other before he urges her forward and takes a sweet picture of her smiling in front of it.
After the initial walk of the grounds, you stop to have lunch in a sunny garden and listen to the kids gush about their favorite part so far and what paintings they're most excited to see inside.
"Miss, what's your favorite thing here?" Kayla asks.
"I like Dream Village by Chagall. If you find it before me, you'll have to let me know." You say. "Do you have a favorite?"
"Not yet. Maybe I'll find it today." Kayla says.
"I like that attitude!"
"Kissass." Jacob coughs, and you both give him a look. You can feel Joel's eyes burning a hole in the back of your head as you stare at Jacob.
"What's my policy?"
"Are you really gonna make me say it?"
"Yep." You say, and he sighs.
"You can be anything you want to be, but you're not allowed to be a dick." He mumbles.
"Exactly. So, please, be nice," you say as you fish around in your lunch box for something. "Here, have a cookie. It might help make you feel a little better." He mutters a little thanks and unwraps it, already in a better mood after one bite, and you smile.
"You just carry around cookies, waiting for a kid to be in a bad mood?" Joel asks, and you turn to look at him. He's wearing a plain blue t-shirt and jeans with sunglasses sitting atop his head, but you think it might be your favorite thing he's worn in your presence. You like it when he wears color.
"It was my cookie, but he needs it more than I do," you shrug. "Besides, things like that are a great morale booster. It's hard to be grumpy when you've got something sweet."
"I'm inclined to agree with you." He quips a little too smoothly, his eyes flicking across your face and down to your lips, and you feel your cheeks getting hot. Thankfully, all the kids have returned to their own conversations and couldn't care less about what the Adults are talking about.
"You're relentless." You whisper.
"Do you want me to stop?" He whispers back, and you sigh. If you were a stronger or better person, you might be able to think fast enough to come up with a response, but you're not. So, you just look at him and rack your brain for something to say but come up empty. "That's what I thought." He smiles and offers you his sweating Dr. Pepper can as a peace offering. You roll your eyes at his smug look but take a sip anyway.
Once everyone is done eating, you all stand and make your way into the museum lobby, the kids already chattering about what they want to see.
"Okay, you guys are free to roam but please, please, please remember that you're representing not only the school but also me. Be respectful and kind, and please don't act like you've never been in public before, okay? Go, be free." You say before the kids split off into their little groups with their obligatory activity in hand. Ellie stays near Joel, only a little shy, until Kayla turns around suddenly and waves her on.
"Ellie, c'mon!" She says. Ellie takes a few steps in her direction before turning to look back at Joel.
"Go. I'll be okay." He says.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure. Now go. Have fun." She doesn't need any more encouragement after that and skitters off with the rest of the kids, leaving you and Joel alone in the atrium.
"She's doing really well." You tell him even though he can clearly see for himself.
"Thanks to you."
"All I did was give her a push."
"Take the credit. You deserve it." He says, his lips pulling into that award-winning smile.
You fall into silence as you walk through the different galleries, Joel never too far behind you. Sometimes, he'll start at the opposite end of the room and work his way down until you meet in the middle, making a deliberate effort to bump your shoulder or hand as he passes. Other times, he'll stay right next to you, and, for some reason, it doesn't bother you. You like being so close to him and feeling his eyes work over the piece like it's a puzzle he doesn't quite know how to work. When he can't stand the quiet anymore, he'll whisper a question to you about the artist or the history, his breathing fanning out across your neck and making the hair there stand on end.
After moving through a big part of the museum together, you and Joel end up at the same painting as the dull hum of voices fills the space between you. You smile to yourself, practically hearing him trying to find something to say as he stands there and observes how the lines of bright colors follow each other. Some are stark and almost resemble lightning in how they move around the canvas, but others are muted, blended together with careful precision and patience. It's hard to imagine what West Texas could've been like in 1953, but this makes it a little easier.
"What's this one supposed to mean?" Joel mumbles, leaning ever so conspicuously into you.
"I can't tell you." You mumble back, and he finally turns to look at you head-on. You meet his eyes with an amused smile, and he shakes his head at you.
"You're really not gonna tell me?"
"I can't tell you what art is supposed to mean to you. I can't tell anyone that."
"But, you're a teacher."
"If you're asking me for an art history lesson, I'd be happy to help, but that's about all I can do for you."
"'S cruel and unusual punishment."
"If art and culture are cruel and unusual punishment, why'd you sign up to chaperone?"
"Maybe I wanted to see my friend," he says, bumping you with his shoulder, and you laugh a little too hard. "What? We can't be friends? Is there a school policy against that, too?"
"Nope, no school policy. I just," You pause and revel in how enraptured he looks at every movement, pause, and breath you take. "I already have friends, so..."
"Oh, and you're 'fraid of bein' too popular?"
"Famously." You say, and he chuckles next to you. You go back to staring at the painting quietly with him so close you can feel his body heat. You're the one to break this time, knocking him with your shoulder to get his attention again. You didn't need to. When you glance at him, you see his focus is on you, not the painting. "It's Texas. Canyon, to be more precise. Up by Amarillo where there's nothing but cattle and desert. O'Keeffe taught out there for a few years and wanted to paint something that showed how big the West is. It's supposed to make you feel like you're two feet tall and seeing the sky for the first time. For her, it might've been the first time in a long time she'd gotten to see a sunset that big. So, she painted it so other people could enjoy sunsets like that. It's like a love letter."
"How d'you do that?" He asks once you're finished explaining, and you furrow your eyebrows.
"Do what?"
"Make little things seem so beautiful." He answers easily, like you asked him what color the sky is. You don't know what to say. What are you supposed to say to something like that?
"'S just what art does." You shrug and break away from his gaze to look at the painting, if only to not feel him staring into your soul.
"No, it's what you do to it. 'S why those kids love you so damn much. You make everythin' feel like a masterpiece, even the little things." He's not flirting. He's not trying to persuade you to do one thing over another. He's genuine and heartfelt. You swear you would start crying if you had a little less sleep. You take a deep breath and lean into him for half a second, just enough to feel his body against yours, before standing upright again.
"Thank you."
"It's what friends are for," he says, leaning into you in return. "I should make sure they haven't seized the museum or anythin'."
"Oh, I can do it. You're a guest."
"And you work too hard," he stops you. "Take a break and enjoy what you love. The world won't end if you take some time for yourself." If ever there were awards to be given out for sweet talking, you think Joel Miller would win all of them.
"Okay," you say, and he walks behind you to move on to the next section. "You really wanna be my friend?" You ask before he can fully pass behind you, looking at him over your shoulder. He smiles devastatingly, light sparkling in his eyes, and nods.
"I really wanna be your friend." He says softly, his voice low and rumbling in his chest. He lingers for a second or two before finally making his way to the group of students, leaving you to scrutinize the painting you've been staring at for God knows how long.
The day crawls to an uneventful close, with you forcing all the students to take a picture in front of the museum for the yearbook. Joel takes your phone out of your hand and all but pushes you in the photo, and your students lovingly welcome you into their little group. In exchange, you grab Joel's phone and take cute pictures of him and Ellie for their own memories. They smile almost identically, and Ellie makes a fake annoyed face when Joel kisses her temple. Your fingers brush against each other when you hand it back, and for a second, you can feel the callouses from his job. It feels like unlocking a new piece of him or a new quirk.
Too bad this isn't a date. Too bad nothing can ever come of this. Too bad you had to meet this way. Too bad. Too bad.
The ride home is quiet and full of the clinking of backpacks and new souvenirs. When you get to the school, parents are waiting in the parking lot with fast food dinners and excited ears to hear all about their days. Almost everyone immediately slinks home, tired and happy, before you can even get close to the school doors. Almost everyone. Joel and Ellie help you carry your backpack and some things you bought for teaching purposes at the museum into your classroom. The school is virtually deserted, and you return to your room to find all the lamps flipped off and mostly positive notes from the sub.
"Dad, what are we gonna do for dinner?" Ellie groans as you sit in your chair and open your email quickly before you can pack up the rest of your stuff. Their dinner debate becomes background noise as you find your inbox full of annoyed messages from Dalton's parents, coaches, and even Principal Martinez regarding his grades. Under all that vitriol sits Henry's half-read message about his gallery opening, and you feel the perfect bubble of your day burst around you. Joel and Ellie seem to realize it because they're both quiet when you tune back into their conversation, and you turn in your chair to look at them.
"Are you okay?" Ellie asks, and you snap out of it, putting on your best teacher everything-is-fine face.
"Oh, yeah. Sorry. Just some emails. It's not important." You wave her off, but Joel isn't so easily convinced. He thinks for a second before pulling his keys out of his pocket and handing them to Ellie.
"Go get some practice driving." He says, jerking his head toward the door, and Ellie's eyes light up.
"Really?!"
"Just bring the car to the front, and don't hit anything!" He says, but she's already taken off with the keys and her stuff in an excited whirlwind. You laugh at her enthusiasm, and Joel leans against one of the desks near you, crossing his arms in front of him. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong."
"Your whole face fell when you opened that computer."
"It's nothing."
"If we're gonna be friends, you're gonna have to tell me if somethin's wrong otherwise I can't help you." He says, and you fight a smile.
"I don't know how you're gonna help me with this one." You say. He bumps your foot with his and gives you a pleading look. Big brown eyes on men like him should be illegal, you think.
"Talk to me." He begs quietly, and you take a deep breath.
"When I was in college, I dated this guy. He was an artist, too, and we were like the little power couple of our program. Things ended kinda badly and abruptly, and I hadn't heard from him since graduation until last week when he invited me to his gallery opening. I really don't want to go alone because, honestly, I haven't been able to get anything showcased in years, and I'm embarrassed. Plus, he broke my heart and made me feel like shit for a few years." You can't stop the words from falling from you once the dam is broken, but Joel doesn't flinch.
"Well, you've got friends to go with, right?"
"I do," you say. "But I want to invite you."
"Oh." He says, seemingly unintentionally.
"Oh." You repeat. "You can say no. I just thought... since we're friends and all now."
"I just... I don't..." he struggles before finally giving in to what he wants to say, what you think he's wanted to say all day. "I don't think I'm smart enough to go to somethin' like that. I don't know anythin' about art. I don't even know how to dress for those kinda things."
"Nobody knows anything about art. Not really, at least. Especially not Henry."
"You do."
"Then I'll stick with you all night and feed you lines about composition or some shit," you say. "And you just wear a nice shirt and some slacks. Maybe a suit jacket if you're feeling snazzy. It's really not as big a deal as people make it seem. We'll go, drink wine, say something about the colors, play nice, and then we'll leave. I'll have you home by 9:30. Earlier if you really hate it that much." He rolls his neck like he's rattling something around in his head or thinking about your offer, and all you can do is watch him and the way his Adam's apple pressing against the delicate skin of his throat. You're convinced he's gonna say no.
"Are you asking me on a date?" He finally asks, and you laugh.
"Not a date."
"Sounds like a date. You even promised to have me home to my girl at a reasonable time."
"Fine, it's a friend date."
"A friend date?" He raises his eyebrows at you, and you nod.
"It's perfectly normal to go on friend dates, Miller. You're just behind on the times."
"Seems like I am. Maybe you can bring me up to speed during the gallery opening?" He says, and your shoulders drop in relief. "I'll pick you up if you agree to help me not look like an idiot."
"You won't look like an idiot."
"Not with you there, I won't." He says, and you want to laugh, but you also want to tear up a little at his kindness. It's been a long week.
"Thank you, Joel. Really. I owe you." You say, and he nods.
"'S my pleasure," he says. For a minute, you two just stare at each other in your empty classroom like teenagers with an obvious crush. You think that's what you feel like. You think that's all you'll ever be able to feel for him. "I should go. I've got an impatient teenager waitin' for me."
"Yeah. Go get her some dinner, and I'll text you the details." You say as you stand to walk him out. He stands to his full height, opens his arms, and approaches you. You didn't think you were hugging territory, but as his arms wrapped around you, you couldn't help but hug him back.
"Goodnight." He says into your hair, lingering for another moment before disappearing as fast as he appeared.
"Goodnight," you say. With that, he starts walking to the open door with a smile stuck to his face. "Hey, Joel," you call before he can step over the threshold, and he turns around to look at you. "Art is for everyone, and even if it wasn't, you're more than smart enough to enjoy it."
"Yes, ma'am." He says with a half-salute and a wink before stepping out of your classroom. You let yourself rest against your desk and take a deep breath. Finally, you let yourself pull out your phone and read the rest of Henry's email detailing the time and place of the gallery.
I hope you can come. It would really mean a lot to me. I miss talking to you and even though things ended the way they did, I still love you.
See you soon,
Henry Hall
"Fuck that."
