Crowley: A False Prophet and the Unholy Trinity

HEAR ME OUT, HEAR ME OUT. @overly-niche-twst makes amazing and funny memes, but as you all should know, even the memes aren’t immune from my theories. But the connection of Crowley and the “false prophet” hit me like a train. A false prophet? In a game where the religious symbolism runs rampant? And when digging into research, I was SHOOK at what I learned. I swear this is the worst rabbit hole I’ve ever gone through because of a MEME 😭

In Biblical lore, a prophet is someone who receives a divine message from a supernatural source and must share the message with the rest of humanity. This message is often referred to as a “prophecy.”

I’ve talked about Levan potentially having prophetic powers on here several times, but as a little recap, Lilia seems to hint at Levan’s uncanny foresight. Either he’s just an incredible master strategist, or Levan has powerful magic (perhaps Unique Magic, or just really good at astrology) related to seeing the future. For example, he SOMEHOW knew that Lilia and Malleus would attend NRC 500 years in the future, and taught Lilia and the other Fae a common language with humans in hopes of reuniting the Fae and humans in the future, like at NRC.

What makes me feel certain about this theory is that ravens in Greek mythology were related to Prophecy, because they were believed to be the bird of Apollo, the Greek god of prophecy. And Levan seems to be twisted from Diavolo, Maleficent’s Raven (unconfirmed but seems likely with info so far)

Technically, if the gift of prophecy was Levan’s UNIQUE Magic, it could count as a “supernatural” source, right? And if he taught and guiding the Fae with the information he saw from the future, Levan could technically be considered a prophet.

But what is a false prophet, and why do I believe Crowley is one?

(Disclaimer, I am not religious myself and am using Biblical texts from a purely analytical perspective. If you know better on this topic, want to add something/correct me, please let me know! Sorry for putting so many links here too haha, there’s just too much to talk about in one post!)

A false prophet is someone who falsely claims the gift of prophecy, or is speaking from the supernatural source of evil, typically the Devil. According to Biblical lore, the false prophet will present themselves as benevolent (Crowley “I am so kind” is that you) and weak, but have great power and evil. What I found very interesting was this line from the Bible:

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”

I’ve made theories regarding Crowley’s true nature many, many times before. My moots tease me for using this Rook screenshot so many times, but I genuinely believe Rook understands Crowley’s character.

Anyway, the TRUE enemy is one who watches from the periphery with a smile…something that Crowley always does. Always watching, but never seemingly acting. He lets everyone’s guard down by being useless, unreliable, and ridiculous, but he definitely has something up his sleeve. In Biblical lore, the wolf is considered a malevolent predator who feeds on the innocent. Like young and impressionable students, perhaps? I think it’s very interesting that Crowley refers to students as his eggs or chicks, like children that he’s “raising.” But a baby bird is one of the many symbols of innocence, and Yana Toboso herself has cryptically said how the repeated egg theme in TWST is a representation of how “Eggs are a good symbol of things that can never go back to how they were, once they have been broken.”

But what about the False Prophet? Well, I’ve recently made an analysis on how Crowley encourages the Overblots in every single book. As a little recap, he’s the one who suggests the magic duel against Riddle in Book 1, the Hall of Fame to Leona in Book 2, signs a contract with Azul in Book 3, abandons Yuu and also stirs Jamil’s hatred by making Kalim housewarden in Book 4, etc etc. He’s constantly leading these students astray in a very subtle manner. But I think he needs the Overblots to happen so Yuu can save them, so he can get the Overblot Crystals.

Additionally, Lilia mentions how historical narrative have been “twisted” to suit someone’s agenda. And judging from how everyone thinks the Disney Villains were sources of good to look up to, the manipulation from Crowley may be more literal than we think.

And if Crowley is leading these people astray for a greater purpose/higher power, this technically makes him a False Prophet. It goes even deeper when you consider his cryptic words throughout the books, as if he is seeing the future. He knows where the students are when they’re talking about important things, he knows when STYX will break in…and as I mentioned, ravens are connected to the gift of prophecy.

And guess what? The False Prophet, according to Christian lore, is part of the Unholy Trinity. TWST has a slyly repeats the theme of three, and which can noticed in NRC’s logo that may represent the past, present, and future. BUT THATS NOT WHY I WAS FREAKING OUT-

Because what does the Unholy Trinity consist of?

The DRAGON

The ANTICHRIST

And the FALSE PROPHET

In a previous theory examining religious symbolism with Meleanor and the Virgin Mary, I also concluded that Malleus Draconia is a representation of the Antichrist, especially because of the star imagery in TWST. Meleanor even refers to him as an “evil star” that would curse humanity.

But now I’m doubting this- I think I had it all wrong. Not about Meleanor being the Virgin Mary, but about who represents the Antichrist. But let me go over what the implications of the Unholy Trinity means first.

Edit: actually I never claimed Malleus was the antichrist at all in that post LMAO, I confused myself with the different names for Lucifer/Devil/Satan 😭😭😭 so technically I was right all along with claiming that Malleus is Lucifer in that post🤪🤪🤪🤪 I won’t edit out this mistake to avoid confusion in the reblogs

The Antichrist and the False Prophet are referred to as the “first and second beast,” who obey the DRAGON. But the Antichrist, aka the First Beast/Beast of the Sea, is described as “emerging from the abyss”

MALLEUS’ TITLE IS LITERALLY THE RULER OF THE ABYSS. IM GONNA- BABXBSB

Edit: I’d like to add that the Bible describes this Abyss as an unfathomably deep, dark, and boundless place, often compared to the ocean and chaos. And recently in Book 7, Silver almost succumbed to the darkness…where there was no light, no people, nothing except darkness and blot. That is TWST’s version of the Abyss, and Malleus is the ruler of it! This religious symbolism has to be intentional

I think the Antichrist actually GRIM. A supreme representation of evil thats said that appear at the END OF THE WORLD/APOCALYPSE. And if we recall the prologue, we see Grim in a horrible monster form in a shattered Mirror Chamber. An amalgamation from the Overblot Crystals, which is literally the condensed version of the Overblot, a representation of purely negative emotions.

And based on what text describes the First Beast as, he has “seven heads, appearance of a leopard, feet of a bear, and a mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority.”

What’s even more interesting is that there’s an “Angel of the Abyss” known as Abaddon. His description intrigued me, as “king of a plague of locusts resembling horses with crowned human faces, women's hair, lions' teeth, wings, iron breast-plates, and a tail with a scorpion's stinger” Since this character is up to interpretation, some religious scholars say this character is the Antichrist. Again, it’s a wild amalgamation of features that sound like Grim.

The Second Beast/Beast of the Earth, aka the False Prophet, is said to rise from the earth (a metaphor for Hell perhaps) and force the world to worship the antichrist. That’s one of the definitions of the false prophet, as one who seeks to lure humanity astray alongside the Devil. Is this some crazy foreshadowing for what Crowley will do in the future?!

And once again using Biblical texts, this second beast “spoke like a dragon,” referring to his arrogance and connection to the Devil. It reminds me of Levan’s title as Ryūgan Duke Levan,” or 竜眼公レヴァーン , aka “Dragon-Eyed”

Anyway. Back to the Dragon, it’s also referred to as the Serpent. Serpents in biblical lore are incredibly important- but are also very symbolic in TWST. I’ve made an post analyzing the serpents in NRC’s logo before, but as a recap, they’re also one of the symbols of rebirth in TWST. I’d like to add that snakes also considered symbols of Wisdom, which is fitting for “Sages Island.” Some religious scholars also consider the lying serpent in the Garden of Eden to be the “first false prophet.”

But the Ancient Serpent specifically represents the “Devil/Satan/the Dragon.”

The reason why I’m doubting Meleanor being the “Dragon” in this Unholy Trinity is because the Dragon attacks the WOMAN OF THE APOCALYPSE, AKA THE VIRGIN MARY 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️ IS MY MELEANOR THEORY COMING TRUE?!? ( I’m just being delulu but please humor me)

But what’s even more interesting is that again in Revelations, it’s said an Angel with a “key to the Abyss and a chain” locks up the Ancient Serpent for 1000 years. Hm?? Malleus literally said that everyone would sleep for 1000 years in his Overblot. What’s interesting about the Angel is that he has the key to the ABYSS…is this Angel meant to be Silver?!? Silver, who has a glowing ring protecting him from the darkness, and heavily connected to a magical sword??? So he the Angel with the “key” to the Abyss, aka Malleus?

So if Crowley is the false prophet…there’s a high chance he’s behind the Overblots. And remember: the False Prophet will force the world to worship the Antichrist. Is this to foreshadow how Crowley will make the Twisted Wonderland world fall because of Grim?

So let me recap what I think this means:

The Dragon- Malleus

The Antichrist- Grim

The False Prophet- Crowley

The Angel- Silver

The Virgin Mary- Meleanor

And you know what, let’s just throwing in the idea that Yuu is the Lamb that opens the Seven Seals, which marks the beginning of the apocalypse, and the Seven Angels/Trumpets are the Overblotters, WHY NOT. A theory to elaborate on for another day…perhaps it will be a series connecting the biblical apocalypse to TWST?

Of course, let me just say that these parallels are not perfect (e.g Malleus being the Dragon despite Meleanor being the Virgin Mary) and some of these characters may better fit other Biblical figures better 🫡 But since I’m focusing on the Apocalypse part, I think that is idea is working, and I’d really like to delve deeper into research!

I didn’t need to spend so much screentime on Titania fight, yet it was a fun personal challenge. I’d never written/drawn a cohesive fight scene before. The scripted ingame instances don’t leave much room for imagination, I wanted to stay away from the fourth wall, and make up a more immersive scene. How do you even make it look mildly interesting? You’d think, well, characters will just flail at each other until one of them dies, right?

So yeah the biggest challenge was creating the ebb and flow. What affects Vivi’s actions? Why wouldn’t he just murder Titania like any other opponent, and be done with it? I threw in a generous amount of inner pov (that I previously used very sparingly) and some silly tricks. The stakes are high, yes, it’s a Lightwarden vs WoD encounter, but Titania still retains their playful personality above all else. Vivi's here just to do his job, but he also knows that he's dealing with a fae.

The msq makes Titania stand out among other wardens, I capitalized on that and hc’d that they’re important to Feo Ul, and, by proxy, to Vivi. That instantly provided some emotional stakes, and an answer to why he doesn’t rush to kill them out of the door.

Vivi enters the castle in episode 35, and mostly runs in circles, analyzing his enemy, and even falls victim to illusions. This could’ve been it for him, but I daresay it worried none of us because we’re just at the beginning of a story about this guy, he’s THE guy in this universe not for no reason, he’ll manage.

No deep meaning behind "grasshopper", I just thought it's a bizarrely precise descriptor of both Vivi's long legs and dragoon jumps, and it fits the natural theme of the fight.

Vivi didn’t go in unprepared.

He always, always doubts everything, especially when it comes to his level of power. Self-nerfing. A light (heh) case of an impostor syndrome.

Everyone loved the bonk for meme reasons, Vivi simply bought himself some time to cast.

The Rainbow Sparkles of Believing in Yourself! And of something else, perhaps. I’m planting quite a bit of stuff for future, this one should take a mere year or so to pay off.

I hope this pose’s enough of a hint that you shouldn't be taking episode 37 too seriously.

Yes, he used his spear to ~cast~. And took a sailormoon pose. This's his, monoclass dragoon’s, interpretation of what the caster magic’s probably like.

Offscreen, Titania comes to their senses and shrills “so you wanna play rough?!”, Vivi ignores them, concerned with only one thing: did he succeed? How did the test of his custom spell go?

It only worked out because the both of them are idiots.

I like to emphasize that Fragments isn’t about retelling the msq, or big epic battles, but here, where I actually put my heart into it, I feel like I managed to pull off at least one epic beat you’d typically see in an action-focused comic. Super proud of this panel ;w;

So, to recap. Vivi asks Titania if they miss the night sky. They do. Vivi brings the night sky to them, and lo, something actually happens. I illustrated this “something” as one of their eyes getting sort of cleansed here. This story suddenly takes a mahou shoujo (shounen, heh) turn, I appreciate that it may cause some eyebrows to raise, but I think it’s okay to take creative liberties like this in a story themed around identity, agency, and believing in yourself. If Titania’s so strong as to retain a tiny bit of their old self, to cohesively partake in a simple convo, then why can’t they return, even if for a brief moment, given the proper assistance.

An appropriate reaction to the wild bs that’s going on. Imagine inventing the tale of WoD in the First, only to witness THIS.

As about Vivi, he can save a soul when he genuinely cares for it. We haven’t seen him do this before. He does it for Feo Ul explicitly, implicitly as a self-reflection. He’s projecting so hard after realizing that Titania looks like him. He wishes for them what he'd wish for himself: to rest, to be treated with care and consideration. They don't only look like him, they're also unfree, tortured by something. Empathy or not, this’s the kindest fight Vivi’s ever fought.

I’m iffy about the canon talents that come with the Echo. You can understand any sentient creature, okay. What happens when you speak, does the other party feel the difference between that soulspeak and their native tongue? Does it feel off? Does it offend? I incorporated my own misgivings into Vivi’s thoughts about his Echo. He doesn't use soulspeak here out of respect and concern that Titania might not react well to it, throwing the entire plan out of the window. Thus he memorized quite a bit of fae words before the fight. This’s his way to mark himself as one of their people, or at least to show that he truly cares.

Embracing his new duty, and possibly giving Titania the hug they deserve.

Look HE’S OKAY. For now. I just thought the hiccup would be a cute way to acknowledge the terrible power he’s just absorbed. The canon cutscene moves on unblinking, but here’s different.

Bracing himself for confrontation. Things might go awry. Or might not. Vivi doesn't know. Worst case scenario: this’s the end of his sweet lil friendship with Feo Ul. Do they like him, or a Titania-lookalike in him?

“Oh bugger...” big pets come with big responsibilities, my dear Feo Ul.

Just to reinforce his fae-ness.

Vivi had full control in this fight. Analyzed the enemy, successfully tested some crazy tricks, managed to have a heart-to-heart that resulted in getting a permission to kill Titania not with violence, but with mercy. So much could’ve gone wrong, but just didn’t. Vivi’s used to this, even if he constantly doubts everything, this’s how it always goes. He’s being flung at tasks with abysmal odds, somehow he emerges victorious.

I just like this panel so much okay.

This arc may feel slow, but it gives depth to Vivi and Feo Ul's relationship, and seeing them together in later episodes will spark even more joy.

Even after a warm moment they’d just shared, Vivi’s still wary. I broke out an analysis of what external influence, pressure to change means to him, please read this post if you missed it. YEAH TAGS AS WELL.

His expression here is an attempt to downplay the anxiety and swing the odds in his favor. What if Feo Ul insists and throws a tantrum? What if he has to become Titania right now, and there’s no way around this? Let’s make puppy eyes just incase, maybe that helps.

One more personal fav panel. There’s SO MUCH in this look. They’re on a threshold, about to become something else on Vivi’s behalf. Because they love him so much. They’ve instantly become friends because they don’t want anything from each other, just the company. Feo Ul’s such a breath of fresh air for Vivi, a new hope in a new world, where he’s (comparatively) a nobody, where people still have the potential to love him for who he is as a person. This’s why our crimson pixie gets so much screentime.

The next few episodes wrap up the Il Mheg arc, and focus on good vibes and celebration. ShB follows a rollercoaster formula where it makes you smile at something nice and sweet only to whack you in the face right after, and I’m trying to do the same :3c

The Sexualization of Octolings

Hey y’all! My friend Ray suggested this lil thread essay post whatever it’s called, and I figured it would make perfect sense to do. I’ve never really made an in-depth Splatoon post before, but I’m not afraid to try. Today’s topic is.. the sexualization of Octolings.

We all know Octolings. We all think they’re cute and fun and cool, but they’re just so.. you know.. sexy. That’s not a bad thing, but it seems like it’s their whole entire species which is literally sexualized and shown in midriff-baring, skimpy outfits. I mean, come on guys. When Callie, the most wholesome Inkling around, briefly joins the Octo Party, she’s suddenly turned into the hottest dominatrix-looking rigid icon ever (a number of my friends started to crush on her after that).

It’s definitely not just Callie. We all know Marina, guys. I don’t even have to show you images to prove what she looks like, her and her love for crop tops. And Marina, as we all know, is an ex-member of the Octarian army, like all Octolings.. like Agent 8, whose Octo Expansion outfit was on the sexy side with a crop top and high-heeled little booties. And who later in Side Order wears a form-fitting bodysuit that shows off their midriff and causes several Splatoon players to meme the fact that their backside seems to be lookin’ large to death. Why is it that Marina and Eight, who used to be in the army, have sexualized attire even now? And when Callie linked up with them, she too was wearing a shirt that in certain poses accentuates her chest, and pants so loose-fitting you can see her actual underwear.

Have you seen the enemy Octoling’s outfits? Yes, they’ve got on armor, but it’s stylized as crop tops and short shorts. Not to mention that most of the enemy Octolings present as or resemble females, and their armor has the age-old shoddy trope of having extra panels for their breasts. They’ve got little booties too and look more like a dancing glam squad or sexualized warrior cosplay than actual warriors, but this is just a design choice and doesn’t affect the way they fight. A pretty weird design choice for a game like Splatoon if you ask me.

I find this very bizarre and random. Because it seems that the entire Octoling enemy brigade has some level of sexiness to them, especially the females. Every single one. But wait on a second. There’s two Octolings we haven’t covered yet. Shiver, an Octoling, has an outfit no more racier than Frye, her Inkling co-star’s. And Acht’s outfit may have a questionable thigh slit, but that’s nowhere near the typical belly-button-bearing short shorts of the Octarian army. That seems to make my theory seem dumb, huh?

Not in the slightest. See, Acht was never in the Octarian army’s fighting unit with the rest of the girlies (they were in the army and wore the same uniform, but as they were never on the front lines they seemed to be able to wear it differently, tilting it so their midriff wasn’t easily seen and wearing a bracelet instead of those tight gloves). As for Shiver, she was born into a clan of Octolings long separated from the other Octarians. Agent 8 on the other hand was once an Octarian warrior, as was Marina (she was later promoted though, but even so along with other enemy Octoling warriors was there during Octavio’s fight with Agent 3), and Callie was turned into one briefly, or something like one, despite her being an Inkling. It seems all the sexualized Octolings were once on the front lines strutting their stuff while fighting. So why is this?

Well, here’s my theory added onto another random semi-theory that I am here to share with you all. You see, in Japanese, the enemy Octolings, preferably the ones you fight, are called “Octo-Amazons”, and the Amazons are legendary female warriors. So perhaps DJ Octavio knew what he was doing with this, and it’s a sort of empowerment move that perhaps the masculine Octolings work on maintenance jobs or something given we never see them, whereas most feminine Octolings are fighters with their female-ness put on blatant display, waggling their little hips as they jump in to do battle with the Inklings. And this practice is so well-known among Octolings that those formerly in the army still tend to gravitate towards more revealing clothes even when they are free. Just a penny for your thoughts, Splatoon community.

This has been a worse than average endgame (to say the least), but I want to acknowledge the highlights of bb25. I’ve been watching since bb16 (been a feedster since bb17), and this has truly been the most invested I’ve been. a new year's resolution

well, as of 2024 i’ve decided i will no longer be posting on tumblr... this shouldnt be the hugest surprise since ive been pretty critical of staff, the over-monetization of the website, the site culture, and the user experience for the past year and gradually reducing my time spent scrolling the ol’ dashboard- ive even mentioned my intent to eventually leave; well, that eventually is now! gradually ive found myself analyzing the effect that using tumblr for 7+ years has had on me, and the effects of social media in general.

ive never had to write a goodbye letter like this before. while ive joined and left several online platforms over the years, its always been a gradual fade in interest rather than a conscious decision to stop. never have i used a platform as long as ive used tumblr, over 1/3 of my life. ive grown up with tumblr, for better or worse. how do you write a goodbye for that? i guess ill have to try my best. because as important as tumblr was for me, ive recognized the way its hurt me too.

finding other avenues of online self-expression particularly has made me think a lot about this. when i edit my website i feel accomplished, happy, and content, feeling i have put something of myself out into the world, my seed to grow and garden to tend. when i scroll through tumblr i feel as if my brain is mostly idle, and when i do emotionally respond its often out of anger or annoyance, because anger = engagement and social media sites like tumblr WANT engagement. particularly because i have OCD ive found myself upset by certain aspects of tumblr discourse culture, as well- it is basically the Scrupulosity Website and much of the way i react to and interact with media has been colored by my years spent absorbing the viewpoints of said Scrupulosity Website! i even used to look up discourse topics on tumblr just to anger myself on purpose, which is a dangerous road to go down, to build up Enemies and Factions in your mind- this is how discourse culture works. the culture of tumblr teaches you to see the world in black and white, and to feel like youre always in danger of compromising your moral purity or being attacked by the morally impure. If You Don’t Reblog This You Are A Bad Person. even as someone who nowadays tries to stay away from discourse entirely, its still there in the back of my mind, because the way we interact on this website is colored by this. when im online i dont actually want to be angry all the time! in fact i like putting my effort towards more positive stuff. but additionally: tumblr made me unhappy but it also made me an addict

and yeah social media addiction sounds like a silly boomer thing to complain about but one thing i noticed when i started trying to curb my time spent on tumblr was that opening the site was damn near compulsive. we all know those “open tumblr, close tumblr, open tumblr again immediately after” memes but that did describe my behavior pretty accurately. the draw and allure of social media feeds is powerful, if i accidentally click the youtubes short tab ill find myself a half hour later scrolling through random shit i don't care about and asking well how the hell did i get here? i dont even like that stuff! tumblr is no different no matter how much the site tries to coast on the reputation of being the last social media that's a “remnant of the old web” and “has no algorithm”. i like my chronological dash but it is equally as addicting to scroll through the thousands of people ive followed over the years, as it is to scroll through the algorithmic feeds of youtube shorts, because that's just social media!

and kicking addiction is pretty damn hard. before 2023, i made two separate attempts at reducing my tumblr usage and both fell through within a week due to that addiction. for reference this current bought of thoughts about reducing my tumblr usage and making my online/irl balance more healthy, around the start of 2023 when i began working on my website and its taken me an entire year to wean myself off of the hellsite, bit by bit. theres a point where it stopped being a conscious act, and even as i was carefully whittling down how often i use tumblr with extensions like leechblock i still had that compulsion go off multiple times every day, its a really strange feeling. but now that ive found so many more ways to express myself online, i just feel more whole now... i guess what im saying is that when i post on tumblr my first instinct is to complain or wallow about something, when i post on my own handmade blog on my website i always want to talk about things that excite me or make me happy! and its been such a tangible change in the way i think and act and im certain its because of the way social media and tumblr have their own “societal expectations” and structure that is built to feed on this negativity loop.

and a lot of the biggest shifts happened when i began immersing myself in the ideals of the web revival, while creating my own website. finding things that genuinely interested me and niches i want to occupy made me so much happier. i know we make a lot of jokes about having mutuals we never talk to that mean the world to us and i do think that is indicative of something. like, when i post on a forum full of strangers i am engaging with more “face to face” (or the digital equivalent) communication than i do with years-long mutuals. how genuine are these connections, this dashboard, the enjoyment i got from that meme post ill forget in 10 minutes? (not to say that i don’t genuinely care abt my followers and mutuals. ykwim?) i can still get all the things i enjoy out of tumblr in a more curated form via rss feeds; ive been so much more proud of what i post and create and code on my website. what am i here for? i gradually realized that i am losing absolutely nothing when i “miss out” or block tumblr on my phone or what have you.

since starting working on my neocities site ive felt so much creative drive. ive created whole interactive essays and worlds and games and writings and so many things i could never host on social media. my website is a place of my very own, and ive been learning the value of focusing on what i put out into the net compared to what i take from it. its made me feel so much more fulfilled when i spend time online.

and let's not forget about staff. i have broader issues with how automattic in particular has gone about running the site. the ads only took up more and more of the dashboard, and every month it felt like there was some new paid feature doomed to never take off. all while the user experience gradually degraded. using the site without browser extensions to fix the ui and block the ads and tumblr live and all the other shit they threw all over the place makes it look like its ridden with viruses, and i think the fact that its become so normalized to feel like we have to stay in spaces that become increasingly hostile to us, even while the internet is so vast, is really strange (i mean, i also thought that way at first). but Anyway. so much time and effort was spent on features no one liked or wanted in some desperate attempt to get a little extra money, while staff members get in public fights with users who complain about getting monetization shoved down their throat. its so openly pathetic. the merch store had mostly mediocre designs and the digital tumblrmart is absolutely full of useless digital goods with free alternatives. considering this is a userbase that gladly donates to other sites donation drives for hosting costs (i.e. ao3, wikipedia, internet archive), i am shocked that staff never considered the obvious answer of a fucking donation drive once a year or so! the ceo telling people with concerns about the ads being unsafe for epilepsy to “just pay the ad free subscription” is one of the most disgusting things ive ever heard from someone officially representing such a platform. do not be fooled by the reputation tumblr has cultivated: all that it cares about is making money from you. tumblr is “in danger” because it can't turn a profit- because a profit is all they care about!

so why stay here when im happier elsewhere, apart from the addictive compulsion? that's what ive been thinking through for nearly a year, realizing that i have no reason to, and that weaning myself off of the addiction is in my best interest. i can create and blog and have fun online and connect with others and follow other peoples work all without the need for tumblr anymore! and i think id be all the healthier for it.

over the past year ive truly fallen in love with the internet again and ive loved putting myself out there, unrestrained in ways i havent felt since i was very young. but nonetheless ive learned a lot on tumblr, ive had some of the worst and best experiences of my online life, and i dont doubt that i would be a much different person if i had never been a tumblr user for as long as i was. but i had to break out of this shell eventually.

i keep going over this wondering how i can express every feeling in my head, how i can word everything just a little better, how i can make the perfect goodbye. but i think this will have to suffice.

The troopers are getting on his damn nerves. He is able to take them out but stars be damned, this is getting exhausting. He couldn’t even focus on judging you because yeah, he wanted to. He wanted to see what was so impressive about the Jedi. This was the first real moment he could witness you in combat. Mandalorian’s were battle forged. Battle was when you saw the core essence of a person, could learn their entire being from just one move

Bakugo wasn’t a fucking fool. He knew the legends of the Jedi, the ancient enemy, knew about the sorcerers who were considered just as fierce warriors as his kind were.

The first moment your lightsaber flourished to life he almost rolled his damn eyes. What kind of warrior only fights with one dumb little light stick?

Now the blinding flash of it blurred in his peripherals and he even couldn’t process it. He had to focus on his damn battle. He couldn’t baby sit you. You - who seemed to just mediate, be a boring arbitrator, and get on his every living nerve.

Suddenly the troopers start to up and leave fast. And then ground rumbles. It shakes with an awful approach of something dreadful. Both you and him whip your head down the town’s road. There turning the corner, imposing as hell, is a Scorpenek droid.

“Fuck.” Bakugo spits out.

But in its rumbling approach, cries pierce the air even faster. There hiding against the wall in the line of sight of the battle droid are two little girls, sisters clutching each other terrified. The droid auto locks on the two and begins the approach.

Bakugo moves-

But so do you, without hesitation.

That’s when he watches you go before him. Your saber is unreleased. Rapidly and with unrelenting attack you now weave through the remaining troopers with such precision it stills Bakugo momentarily. Your footwork is sloppy and rushed but it’s committed. You leave victorious destruction in your wake and he can barely see your face because you entire focus is getting to the girls.

You get a running start to jump fast and high. You land before the girls immediately shifting in a protective stance with your lightsaber drawn on the defense. The saber’s glow illuminates your face, sweat drenched and contorted in focus. Before him you are a knight, a warrior, unwavering to your opponent. Bakugo soars up high.

The two of you focus all your attention on the droid. Bakugo attacks from all angles and you do not move once from your post protecting the children. When the damn thing's barrier is finally broken, the battle shifts.

“Bakugo!” You suddenly shout at him, his name, in the voice of a commander. “I got a plan! Together! One last time we attack together!”

“Yeah!” He roars back. Then you outstretch your hand. That’s when he see it, those damn magic whatever powers. The sand floats. The droid contorts as if possessed by some unknown spirit but the stress grows stronger and stronger on your face.

You were holding the battle droid still for him to land the final blow.

And he does. Bakugo dives down, explosives ready at the wrist, and fucking blows the thing to pieces.

The battle dissipates fast and he lands back on the ground whipping his helmet to you. But you don’t even see him. You are kneeling and facing the two girls. They cry even louder clutching onto you and you hold them tight, comforting.

The mandalorian warrior stays silent as you carry one of the girls in your arms and the other stays clinging to your robes. Even as composed as you are, he sees it. The discolor in your face and the edge of exhaustion bleeding into your eyes is evident. Your tired smile is so relieved when the girls run sobbing to their father who is thankfully safe. Bakugo however stays vigilant watching you.

“I’m heading back to help search and rescue.” He announces and you nod moving in step beside him, eyes not even looking at him. He wonders if you might be the one possessed now.

“Shouldn’t you sit your ass down, shitty Jedi?” Bakugo asks.

“M’fine.” Your voice is slightly slurred now, battle worn.

You take one more step and that’s when you pitch forward, tripping on your own damn dumb legs that have buckled under exhaustion. It takes him only two steps to move and catch you, steady and sturdy.

“Damn moron.” He knew it. He saw it brewing, the limit a warrior reaches in battle, and knew this was coming.

“Shut up blasty, I’ll be fine.” You sigh breathless.

“Stop moving!” He barks at you because of course your dumbass is trying to fidget out of his arms to keep moving. You’re fierce. He can see it in the annoyance flashing in your eyes but, it’s admirable. He can’t even deny that.

“You need to sit your ass down.” He tells you simple and straightforward like he’d tell his fellow warrior.

“You need to go away.” He rolls his eyes at your childish deadpan but begins leading you back to the medic station. You do not fight him.

Bakugo takes each step slow, eased, not to rush you. Then he feels it. The weight of your body shifts to fully lean against on him. An unspoken solidarity settles between you two, mandalorian and Jedi both a united team victorious. But, the fierce mandalorian war hero now wants to rip apart his chest so badly because he wants, no needs, to get rid of it - this the wave of something proud and fond bubbling disgustingly fast beneath his beskar armor.

“Bet you were a damn headache to train. You’re stubborn as shit.” Bakugo comments.

“Look who’s talking.” You snort and it’s amused, comradely. “And excuse you, but all my mentors at the temple said I was a delight to train and have during lessons.”

Your voice is chirped, brightly proud, gaining a bit of your spirit back. And he can’t help it. He laughs, a bark of a thing but he laughs and he fucking hates it.

“Yeah I fucking bet.” He hates even more that he means those words.

My doc names are usually very boring 95% of the time I finish a fic and think it’s ready to post and realise I need a title. How about ‘Yassen Bedroom Visit’?

I don’t really have alternate titles! Titles tend to come pretty late in the process!

Probably one of my s3 aus I’ve got brewing, there’s a longer thing I posted the first chapter of today but I also have some one shots, one where Yassen gets wounded fighting off Alex’s enemies and Alex basically has to hold him down to say he cares about him, and another where Yassen comes to chat to him in the middle of the night (while Alex is sleeping) and they catch up.

Again, extremely boring. Some examples - ‘Tom/House introduction’, ‘stables’, ‘the ball’, ‘heir apparent 1-9’, ‘hunting’ ‘hostage’ ‘orienteering.’

Okay this took me forever to decide bc I want to share like, all of my sentences, but here’s a sentence from my SCORPIA heir Alex thing where Yassen just tries to take a day off, but is interrupted by Alex sneaking out of school/the country and mountain his school is on

‘Rubbing his eyes with his forefinger and thumb, he blocked out the little blonde headache sat before him, and sighed, already imagining the state of his email inbox when he got back to his laptop, which he’d sworn would stay folded in its case for the rest of the day.

“And how long ago was this? When should I start expecting panicked calls from your father?”‘

8.) a scrapped idea from your WIP?

Not necessarily a scrapped idea but evidently one I forgot about and rediscovered as I was flicking through google docs - originally a pre-season 3 idea (but could work post s3) where Yassen retires, and decides it’s time for Alex to retire too, even if he doesn’t want to. Very “congratulations you are being adopted! Do not resist.” Meme with Yassen that I’ve seen on here, the bit I’d written was him contemplating the least traumatising way to kidnap him, to make sure they’re a happy family unit post-kidnapping

9.) what’s a story you would love to write but have yet to start?

Alex sees dead people AU - Ian knows, when he dies his ghost becomes bound to Alex, and helps take care of him/watch over him in the field, Alex bumps into Yassen at Point Blanc and immediately recognises the ghost bound to him as his father, especially as he begs the assassin to stop pretending like he can’t hear him for once and let him see his son, to protect him.

10.) how many WIPs are you actively working on?

Four - regency fic, darker Alex s3 au, two other s3 aus I mentioned earlier. Suprised myself by how much of this longer ‘SCORPIA heir’ Alex thing that I’d put off for a while I’ve actually written. That’s one that I really want to finish before I start posting bc I’m bad at doing work without an immediate emotional reward/it’s a longer than anything I’ve written before and I don’t want to give up on it when it’s half published. I had been delaying it till after s3 but maybe time to get to work (will try and finish regency fic first)

11.) is there a scene your struggling to write now?

Oh I mean so many but the most immediate stumbling block is with the regency fic, chapter after this one they go to a ball and that’s almost basically written and so is a lot of the next two chapters but there’s things I need to thread into this chapter that just don’t want to be threaded - I need Alex to start being a bit more suspicious of Yassen, and remember that whole thing about his uncle being murdered now he’s a bit passed the initial princess diaries revelation moment.

I was thinking like Alex waiting up for him on Christmas Eve or something and falls asleep then is woken by Yassen sneaking back in and Alex noticed he’s got blood on his clothes or something and Yassen just shrugs him off and reacts more strictly/authoritatively than he has before. But the scene is a bit sludgy I my mind atm.

This is a claim he and Edelgard Critical in general makes pretty often. I searched through interviews myself (I had to because Analyzer never posts his sources for anything...) and the closest I found was:

And this doesn’t really mean what the Analyzer seems to think it means. Silver Snow was written first as the primary means to explore the world, but to say that just because one of the routes where you fight Edelgard was made before the others that it then means that’s the story the developers intended to represent the entire story is fallacious thinking.

The story buildup throughout White Clouds spends nearly all its time expressing why Fodlan is in a pretty shitty state and it all comes down to the Church of Seiros’s failures and Rhea’s lies. Fodlan being reunified and Rhea losing power, no matter which route she does it in, is always treated as a good thing.

The worst Three Houses ever says of Edelgard in the routes where you fight her is that she had the right of it that Fodlan needs to change, but that her methods were too extreme. Claude and Dimitri only ever criticize her methods, not her intentions. The game never calls her a stupid little ignorant warmonger as the Analyzer does.

Yup, we all knew it was coming! LoStNiRvAnA!!! The very definition of somebody who knows nothing about Buddhism trying to analyze Buddhist symbolism. That line of argument was debunked years ago but EdelCrit isn’t exactly known for updating their talking points.

Now if you want actual symbolism, the ending mural for Silver Snow is pretty clearly based off a painting of Pope Gregory returning the seat of the papacy from Versailles to Rome:

But obviously the Church of Seiros has nothing to do with Catholicism because not many Japanese people follow Catholicism today :)

Sothis! Get off the throne, you gremlin, you’re ruining the symbolism!

As I said above, the lost Nirvana claim is outright nonsense, especially considering Sothis is still with Byleth, as revealed in their S support in Crimson Flower:

It’s only in Crimson Flower that Sothis is attached not to a crude object snaring Byleth’s heart, but to Byleth’s very soul. If anything, Byleth’s continued attachment to Sothis - the source of their supposed enlightenment - is only reinforced in Crimson Flower.

The point about Byleth getting called out comes from the Japanese version of Dimitri’s battle quote with Byleth at Tailltean;

Dimitri: Teacher. Why Edelgard…? You chose the path of the beast 

“Path of the beast” being a Buddhist term meaning Byleth is on the path to a lesser level in the cycle of reincarnation. So what is this? It’s the desperate ramblings of Byleth’s enemy, swearing that Byleth is damned and walking the road to hell. No different from Rhea’s constant shrieking of religion-laden threats at both Byleth and Edelgard.

And we already know from the scene in which he’s executed that, although Dimitri mostly speaks well and has both eyes, in reality he’s got more than one foot on the path to devolving into the boar at the end of Crimson Flower:

So he’s not exactly a great source from which to draw arguments.

The Analyzer then goes on to say that the devs called Edelgard a villain in one of the interviews, and I’ve hit that particular point more than enough times by now, I feel.

So what’d we learn today?

Uhh, the Analyzer is shit at analyzing Buddhist symbolism.

Unfollowing: If you post more out of character things than in character things there is a chance that I will unfollow you.  If you tend to post more pictures - without just cause such as a meme of some sort - on a regular basis then I will unfollow you because I do not need my dash crowded with things that have nothing dealing with the threads that you have going on.  Posting picturess of your fc or particular scenes with your muse is fine - to each his own - but spamming the dash?  I’m not a fan.  

Note: Also remember that Tumblr tends to unfollow people sometimes so if I accidentally unfollow you and follow you once more it is not entirely my fault as it could have been an accident.

Hey ya’ll! I’ve done one of these before, but I’ve been gone for a while so I figured I’d reintroduce myself.

Me:

My name is Tessa, I use she/her pronouns. I am usually an English teacher, but currently living that stay at home mom life.

I love writing memes and jokes. I also tend to reblog art and information that aesthetically inspires me or I want to use as a reference later. I’ll also reblog LGBTQ+ things and other miscellaneous posts that I like.

I’m trying to be better about posting my own WIPs and characters. I’m definitely a little shy (due to the voice in my mind saying “no one cares”) but I have sooo many things to share! I love beta-ing and would be happy to do a story swap if anyone’s interested.

My Writing:

I write mostly fantasy, but I’ve been dipping my toes in sci-fi and cyberpunk. Please know that I am literally the worst at describing the plot of any book, least of all my own.

My current WIPs are:

A Conspiracy of Ravens

Low-magic fantasy setting with lots of fantasy creatures. Ren runs away from an arranged marriage (a classic) and pretends to be a man to join the Chimaera, a mercenary group (also a classic). The new recruits’ first mission takes them through Ren’s homeland— a place ravaged by creatures sent by the gods as punishment— while hunting a group of Houndwraiths.

Gunslinger’s Glory (working title)

Generations have passed since the First Council sealed off Allestra from the the rest of the world to keep their enemies from exploiting their magic. Now, the Council rules with an iron fist, controlling the lives of anyone “lucky” enough to be born with a Gift. The Barrens, a wild, dangerous land separated from the rest of the country by mountains, is the last refuge for anyone who wants to live by their own rules. But as the shadow of the Council looms, even they might not be safe for long.

Johnny ran away from the Council’s academy for Aurists when he was sixteen and hasn’t looked back. A year later, after an accident that nearly killed him and left him blind in one eye, he found himself working for the Rangers protecting the Barrens. But when he swore an oath to protect his mentor’s daughter from a bandit bent on revenge, he had no idea how quickly his past would catch up with him.

The only thing worse that learning your father is dead, is finding out you’re next. When the handsome Ranger tells her she needs to travel with him across the Barrens, a trip almost as dangerous as the outlaw hunting her, she knows she has no choice.

On the way, they meet outlaws, Magi, and more dangerous creatures than you can shake a stick at.

Those are my main WIPs, although they’re both in the editing/rewriting stage. Other WIPs I have involve sirens in the circus, lovecraftian otherworldly adventures, and a Norwegian-inspired beauty and the beast.

wowie, it has been a hot minute since i've done one of these!!! seeing as i've gotten into the groove with zhilan here in isola, i think it's about time i cast my reel into the pond and start developing some long-term plots for him. i'll preface this by saying we do not need to have threaded before for you to express your interest! if you think your muse can vibe with any of these  ( or even if you have an idea i haven't covered here! ) , you're more than welcome to hop onto this plotter call. 'what does this do, exactly?' you might be asking. i'll tell you! by liking this, you can guarantee:

RELATIONSHIPS. these are the bonds i want to see zhilan develop! some of these include—— FRIENDS. if you've been around zhilan for longer than 5 seconds, you've probably noticed that he is extremely friendly! zhilan has the personality of a sunbeam: it's bright, it's cheerful, it's warm and everything you would expect of a walking beacon of positivity. he's pretty talkative, even when faced with less talkative muses. he's also really trusting and believes the best in people, sometimes to his own detriment. he'd make a good friend to just about anyone, being a rather personable individual! plus, i think he ought to make some friends! the guy's kind of a hermit when it comes to his work. GEEK SQUAD. do you have a muse that's also super nerdy? you're in luck! they probably stand a chance of coming across zhilan in his natural element, that being his lab at the university or one of the libraries scattered about spirale. there is no greater joy to him than positing theories and discussing the nature of one's work. even if their fields differ, he'll want to hear all about it! ENEMIES. now, i feel like it's hard to get under zhilan's skin unless you're the absolute anarchy of humanity, BUT! i do think his optimism can rub people the wrong way, especially if they're more jaded. i'm not expressly looking for people to antagonize zhilan, but i do think it's impossible for him to get along with everyone. thus, i'm leaving this here! SPARRING PARTNERS. you wouldn't know it from zhilan's scrawny stature, but he does dabble a bit in martial arts! now that he's gotten his polearm back, he's actively looking to improve his combat skills… which are admittedly not that impressive, unless he's acting as a support. maybe your muse could act as a mentor, or even a fellow peer! THE MUSEUM. zhilan plans to take up a job position here! it's… kind of an odd choice, yes, but he doesn't exactly want to pursue an academic position at the university. so where better to put that treasure trove of knowledge to use than a museum! if you're visiting for any reason, you'll likely come across him among the gallery. just, er… not the abyssal gallery. he tends to keep out of there. YESTERYEAR. zhilan frequents this branch rather often, being to sort to gravitate to old dilapidated ruins and forgotten history. if you know a thing or two about this branch, he'll be incredibly interested to hear about it! who knows! maybe the two of you can explore it together… CASTMATES. zhilan might be a fandom oc, but i'm really keen on the idea of him developing some established bonds with his canon counterparts.  ;v;  their shared canon background already gives them a good basis for interactions, so i'd like to nurture some connections for him with his genshin fellows! aaaand that’s about it! of course this doesn’t cover everything, so if you’ve got an idea and you don’t see it here you’re free to hop on this post and shoot it my way! thanks for reading!  :^)

i wrote this in the middle of covid in 2020, with some edits that had been added once i was further educated so i thought i’d post it here too. this post is important. to me, to the disabled community and our allies.

how many disabled characters can you think of in the contemporary media? will traynor in me before euthanasia, sorry i mean me before you. ryan stocks in emmerdale. rem-dogg in bad education. artie abrams in glee. those are the only ones i can think of on the top of my head. and two of those four characters are played by actual disabled actors. james moore who plays ryan and jack binstead who plays rem-dogg. james has a disability similar to mine called ataxic cerebral palsy and jack suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta or brittle bones disease as it’s more commonly known as. unlike the actors who play will in me before you and artie in glee. but with the way the story is set out in me before you (and because i love sam claflin) i can forgive that casting.

however, i cannot forgive the fact that me before you even exists in the first place. now, this book and film is a meme in the disabled community because it deals with the topic of euthanasia and the whole saying of ‘i’d rather be dead than disabled’. if you haven’t seen this film or read this book, basically, me before you is about this young woman called louisa clark, played by the ever-so-lovely emilia clarke, who’s lost her job at a local café and gets a job being a ‘companion' for will traynor, a previously-successful banker with the perfect life who got caught in a motorcycle accident two years prior and is now paralysed from the neck-down. here’s the thing. i knew nothing about this film when it came out. i hadn’t read the book beforehand, i was just so excited that there was a love story involving a disabled person. it was everything my fourteen-year-old self wanted. then i saw it on netflix about a year after it came out and i heard people say that they cried at it so i thought that sam claflin’s character died at the end from his disability because of complications, because disabilities are like that sometimes.

oh, no. it was about euthanasia.

so, i know that this situation is a real thing that happens in day-to-day life. i know that people are born able-bodied and are then in an accident or get an illness that renders them disabled and they don’t know how to cope and i really sympathise with that. but my issue is, why promote it? why romanticise it and turn it into a huge love story? you are enforcing the saying ‘i’d rather kill myself than be disabled’, you are saying that unless the disabled person is out of their reach, family, friends and other people around disabled people can’t be free and happy. no-one should have those thoughts. i don’t care who you are, these thoughts cannot go through your head, nor any justifications of those thoughts. if the author and filmmakers wanted to tackle that subject, they should’ve focused on will’s mental health and the fact that it was severely declining, not the love story and how louisa was trying to show him he should live. stop letting able-bodied people be the ‘heroes’ in disabled people’s stories. as for kevin mchale, who plays artie, i have no real complaints, except maybe they could’ve hired an actual disabled actor. I’m just saying. and, as of november 2022, kevin has apologised for playing artie and said that he will never play him again, which i am so, so happy that to hear.

now… i’m a twenty-one-year-old person and i have spent my whole life since i was aware of my disability wanting someone in tv, books or films to reflect me. a happy disabled teenager who was born disabled. that’s all i’ve ever wanted in life. a character whose disability isn’t used for a plot or whose main focus isn’t how sad they are about being a disabled person. just a normal character who just happens to be disabled. and not just a one-off character in a tv special. a main character who has friends and crushes and enemies just like everyone else. say toni topaz in riverdale or harper finkle in wizards of waverly place. and yet the media has failed to produce anything of the sort. even if they have set a foot in the right direction with disney channel’s andi mack and pop tv’s one day at a time. you only need to look at these shows and they scream diversity and social awareness. but there are still no disabled characters. besides that woman in penelope’s therapy group in one day at a time but again, she’s not a main character.

this is why i was so obsessed with sex education and isaac goodwin when i watched it. isaac was everything i’d ever wanted, a funny, real disabled character. i could go on and on about isaac, from his actor, george robinson, to his scene in season three, episode four. i still get so emotional about that scene and i haven’t even rewatched it yet. yes, isaac did some questionable things in his introductory season but so did every other character in the damn show so i don’t see how it warranted so much ableism when no other character got that much hate. just say you’re ableist and go.

now, sia, as a person and ‘filmmaker’, is disgusting. i am not autistic so i don’t want to speak for the autistic community but i do have some people very close to me who are autistic and they have all said that what she was doing with her film was incredibly offensive. from the use of restraints that have been proven to kill people to the fact that she tried to collaborate with a group that compares autism to cancer who ALSO disagreed with the film, she must have known that what she was doing was harmful. not to mention, she claimed to have worked with an autistic actress (who she later fired because she couldn’t handle her sensory issues) before hiring maddie ziegler but it also came out that she wrote this film for maddie and that she ‘just can’t not work with her’. first off, that’s fucking nepotism and secondly, maddie was very uncomfortable with playing the role but sia forced her. so, which one is true?

sia has also publicly told an autistic person who said that she would’ve reached out to play the role that she might’ve been a bad actor just because she’s autistic. if that’s not ableism, i don’t know what is. she also deleted twitter for a bit because she couldn’t handle the hate she got so that just screams she knows she did something wrong. avoid music by sia at all costs and watch loop on disney+ instead. loop is a pixar short about a young nonverbal autistic girl of colour(!!) and an allistic boy as they figure out how to communicate with each other without words. the voice actress for the girl is also a nonverbal autistic girl, which just makes the whole film even better.

the one tv show that consistently puts in disabled characters who are strong and genuinely happy with their disability is bbc’s call the midwife. this is one of the many, many reasons why i love this show with every inch of my body. i could talk about call the midwife for days and days about every plot line i love that they have come up with. one of which is the somewhat recurring appearance in seasons two and three of jacob, a young man who has cerebral palsy. i love jacob and his story whenever i watch the two episodes he’s in and colin young just makes it even better. because call the midwife is set in the fifties and sixties, jacob and other disabled people live in an institution and this is where we first meet jacob in season two when a young couple with a baby who was born with spina bifida are struggling and are thinking about sending him to the institution. the main thing i love about jacob is how normal his character is. he’s a cheeky young man who’s in love with a woman who has down syndrome and when he finds out that her mother had taken her home because she got pregnant, he goes after her to see her. now, who couldn’t love someone like him?

call the midwife is the only tv show, in my opinion, who has the gut to represent the disabled community accurately. and i am so happy we have something like that because this show showcases so many different plot lines, i could go on forever. oh, and the first two or three seasons are based on real accounts by jennifer worth, the author of the call the midwife memoirs and main character of the first three seasons of the show, played by jessica raine. but one show putting in accurate representations of disabled people isn’t enough, no way.

we need happy disabled characters in teen dramas, in kids’ shows, in blockbuster films. we need more. i want to be represented. i want disabled children to get the representation i never got as a child. i don’t want any other innocent preteen to enter their teenage years hating themselves and giving themselves internalised ableism like i did. i hated myself for years before i found the disabled community on here via my old account because i couldn’t find anyone anywhere in my media consumption that i could properly relate to.

and even now, i get excited when i see a wheelchair in any promotion campaign for a tv show or a film.
