summary: eustace doesn't believe that edmund has a girlfriend.
wc: 800
pairings: edmund pevensie x fem!reader
warnings: VERY unedited. also it's 1am and i just wrote this in a burst of inspiration, so please don't expect it to be good.
a/n: i don't really know if this will make sense to anyone lol, i think i wrote it in a confusing way, but hopefully it's okay. it's mostly eustace's pov, i wanted to try something new. also, this exact scenario has been in my head for months now.
Tumblr media
“There’s no way he has a girlfriend,” Eustace tells Lucy, barging into the room. She immediately knows who he’s talking about, able to hear Edmund on the phone downstairs, voice softer than it usually is, taking the tone he automatically opts for when he speaks to Y/N.
“Why?” Lucy asks, half-heartedly entertaining her annoying cousin while she thumbs through the pages of her book. Unfortunately for her, Eustace Scrubb brightens at the attention, straightening up and launching into a rather well-thought out spiel.
“First of all, it’s Edmund we’re talking about. He’s awkward, way too hostile and bad-tempered. Not to mention, he’s barely of average height, and his hair? Absolutely ridiculous.”
“Y/N likes it,” Lucy says mildly, earning a scoff from Eustace.
“Y/N.” he says with disbelieving scorn, “As if she actually exists. You expect me to believe that a woman as beautiful and intelligent as you lot claim she is would actually be interested in Edmund? And so interested that she calls and writes to him multiple times a week? Yeah, right. I bet that Ed’s hired an escort to help him forget about how lonely he actually is. Or he’s paying some poor girl to play the part of a caring partner.” Eustace has had many such theories, the more creative ones dealing with blackmail and holding family members hostage, but so far, monetary imbursements seem to be the most likely.
“Sure, Eustace,” Lucy mumbles, having checked out of the conversation a while ago. He shakes his head at her disinterest, convinced that he is right, and leaves the room, muttering to himself disbelievingly.
Tumblr media
A few days later, a painting gushes out water and swallows them whole, so poor Eustace, although having taunted his cousins with his skepticisms about the magical land of Narnia and called them fools for believing in the same, is forced to confront that he was wrong.
Eustace is soaking wet and miserable, still slightly panic infused. He can’t believe his eyes, convinced that he hallucinated the last fifteen minutes. Sitting on the ship, the Dawn Treader, he watches as his cousins are recognised as King and Queen. He’s related to royalty.
With a humorous snort, he realises that this is more believable than Edmund Pevensie having a girlfriend.
Hell, even the talking rat next to him is more believable.
He goes to voice the same, but is distracted by a joyous whoop descending from the sky, followed by a splash in the ocean. Eustace is too busy trying to catch a glimpse of the figure underwater to notice the hopeful glances Edmund and Lucy exchange, the faint tremour in Edmund’s hands as he snatches a telescope from a passing crew member, getting a clearer view.
“It is her!” Ed cries, only barely held back from jumping overboard by Caspian, who laughs fondly at the Just King. Eustace tries to hear what the Prince tells Edmund, but all noise turns to mush the second he sees the young woman surface, a brilliant smile on her face.
At first glance, he thinks it’s a siren. He’s heard stories about their enchanting beauty and ethereal forms, and Eustace does genuinely believe that this woman is too gorgeous to be human like he is. As she swims closer, though, and the ship's crew help pull her onto the ship, Eustace notices the lack of a tail. And though her hair is soaked and strewn across her face, and her clothes suction themselves to her skin, none of it takes away from her radiance.
It also doesn’t distract him from the fact that she’s walking right towards him.
Eustace’s mouth goes bone dry, and he gulps nervously, afraid she’ll talk to him and afraid she won’t, when suddenly, Edmund swoops past him and towards the woman. He snatches her up in a passionate embrace, hands securing her to him as he twirls her around in sheer delight.
When they kiss, chaste but heady, Eustace decides that he has never actually known anything about anything.
He’s scouring the sky for flying pigs when he hears Edmund’s self-satisfied voice behind him, “And this, my very real girlfriend, Y/N, would be my cousin, Eustace Scrubb.”
“How do you do?” Eustace says weakly, extending a hand, trying his hardest not to faint when you take it.
“Pretty well. If only Edmund would- what was it again?- stop holding my family hostage, I think I’d be great,” you rib amiably, throwing back one of Eustace’s earliest theories back into his now scarlet face.
“No, darling, you’ve got it wrong, I’ve currently got your dogs kidnapped and ready to be shipped to the pound, remember?” Edmund joins in on the fun, his smile widening as he earns a couple of chuckles from you, and a darker flush from Eustace’s cheeks.
Eustace Scrubb, though unwilling, is forced to admit, after watching the two of you interact, gravitating towards each other naturally, at ease with the love that surrounds you, his cousin’s eyes brighter than he’s ever seen them, that it is very believable for Edmund Pevensie to be dating Y/N L/N after all.

Word Count: 1363

Warnings: Mention of longing, crying, separation from loved ones, and food.
If I forgot about anything feel free to write to me. Your wellbeing is important to me!
Summary: Where she and Caspian meet again in a different world.
Tumblr media
You went to Narnia with the Pevensies on their second journey there. You immediately fell in love with this world and the young prince you met there. You were lucky enough to be able to come back to Narnia to the Dawn Treader and have more time with Caspian. You spent every minute you could together. You tried to help him as much as you could. And he made sure to show you that he appreciated it. Your safety was the most important thing for him.
When you found all the lost lords and defeated the darkness, you met Aslan holding each other's hands. You all could not believe that it was yours last time there. You allowed Lucy and Edmund to say their goodbyes to the young king, and then you fell in Caspian's arms with tears.
Caspian held her close to him, gently stroking her head with his hand. She leaned into him, quietly sobbing into his chest. He needed to close his eyes to stop his tears.
"Love… it will be alright. I am sure that one day we will meet again. "He moved so slightly to take her face into his hands. He gently whipped her cheeks, trying to smile at her, but she could see his pain.
"I don't want to leave you. I needed to do it once, and I lived the whole year with this longing. I am not sure if I can do it again."
"You can. I know it. It will be hard at first, and trust me… I don't want you to leave Narnia. But I have a feeling that you are needed in your world. You can find happiness there, even if now you think it's impossible." Caspian gently stroked her cheeks and kissed her forehead fondly.
"How can I find happiness when I leave my heart with you here?" She moved her hand to the back of his head.
"Someday… someday someone special will cross your paths, and you will feel whole again." Caspian's voice shivered at the thought of his lover with someone else, but he knew it was true. "I will always be part of you, just like you will always have a special place in my heart. I will always love you." They both could hear Lucy sobbing even more when Edmund tried to smooth her.
"I love you, Caspian. Truly and forever." He leaned down and gently connected their lips. She felt thousands of butterflies in her belly. But then the thought that it was one last time painfully squeezed her heart.
You came back to your world. You tried to learn how to live there again. You had Lucy, Edmund and even Eustace to help you - they all saw your suffering. You ended school and found work, trying to help people. Even when you tried, there still were days when the only thing you could do was wrap yourself in the blanket and think about the young king.
One day, you walk home after work and do some quick shopping (after all, you need something to eat). When you looked around, wanting to cross a street, your heart stopped - on the other side, you saw Caspian the Navigator.
She stopped suddenly in the middle of the street and couldn't believe her own eyes. Just a few steps before her was him - Caspian. He was in his Narnian clothes, and a few people who passed him looked at him strangely. The bag she was holding fell to the ground, and her hand went to her mouth. She blinked a few times, but he was still there, and his eyes finally fell on her. Firstly, shock replaced confusion, and after a few seconds, a wild smile - a smile full of love - showed on his face. It was his smile that made her sure that it was him. She started walking, and the horn from a passing car awoke her. She looked around and tried to safely come to him. She stood before him, and tears came to her eyes.
"It's you… you are here." She whispered, and he nodded.
"I am, love. I still don't know how, but I am here. And I think that you're the reason I'm still here." She sobbed loudly and fell into him, nearly knocking him over. He hugged her tightly, lifting her a little and taking a deep breath. "You have no idea how much I missed having you in my arms." He whispered into her hair, kissing the top of her head.
"I think I know… because I dream about falling asleep with you next to me every night." She smiled, snuggling her face into the crock of his neck.
After a while, you both returned for your things. You showed him the way to your home. The whole time he looked around, charmed by your world. He asked so many questions, and the only thing you could do was smile when you answered him. He held your hands tightly when he watched passing cars, fascinated by them. All you could do was to bring his hand closer to your heart, watching his face. At that moment, you could watch how he changed in the time that passed, and he only became more handsome (and before you thought it was impossible...). You asked him if he wanted to meet with Pevensies immediately or if he'd like to rest and change first. At his request, you brought him to your home. You found some more appropriate clothes for your times for him. When he walked in, you couldn't tear your eyes from him. He looked so different but still so, so good.
You prepared some tea and something to eat. You talked about the time you were separated. Caspian told you how he came to your world. He told you how everything was in Narnia after your departure. He made you laugh and smile more times than you did since you returned from Narnia. You showed him how different things worked - his favourite being the radio. You watched him with a big smile, and when the ballad started, he stood up before you with an outstretched hand in silent question.
She took his hand, and he led her to the centre of the small room. He brought her close to him, and she rested her head against his chest. They started to gently sway just like years before at his coronation ball. He rested his head against hers, and they both closed their eyes, wishing for this moment to last forever. After a few moments, when the song had changed, she looked up and slowly brought her hand to his bearded cheek. She caressed it with her thumb, making him smile. He rested his forehead against hers, squeezing her waist gently.
"I still can't believe I can hold you in my arms again." He whispered, feeling how she moved her hand to the back of his neck. "I dreamed about it every night since you disappeared. And every night, I prayed that I'll have the opportunity to tell you how much I love you once more."
"And we have it." She smiled, nuzzling her nose against his. "We are here together. And I will fight even with Aslan himself to make it stay this way. No matter where - here or in Narnia - I will fight for us to stay together. But… Would you like to stay?" He heard the uncertainty in her voice, and it squeezed his heart painfully. He stopped his movement and looked straight into her eyes.
"With you, my love, I would stay anywhere - just to be with you. Here, in Narnia, in the deep of the sea. It didn't matter. I want to be with you." She could fight the tears that came into her eyes. Caspian rode his hand and gently whipped them with his calloused fingers. With a slight movement, she softly pulled his face closer to hers. Finally, she connected their lips to a kiss full of love, longing and a promise of a better future. Because even if they didn't know at that moment how they would do it - they would spend it together.

Curse of the all-knowing part 1
Caspian x fem!reader
Summary: Y/N was living her life like anyone in the 21st century, until one day she comes across a portal to a magical kingdom, Narnia. A kingdom she believed to be fictional, is suddenly real. What is the reason for her arrival? And what are the surprises that are awaiting her?
Words: 1806

I look away from my laptop screen, where Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is playing. I look out at my window, noticing the nice weather, and get the sudden urge of going on a walk. I look back at my laptop. The movie is nearing its end and I can already feel my throat tighten and few tears running down my face. No matter how many times I watch this movie, the ending always gets me. Lucy, Edmund, and Eustace say goodbye to Aslan and Caspian before going to the waves and get back to their own world.
I wash my face so I don't look like I just cried and put on some comfortable clothes for a walk. I would rather chill on my bed but something told me to take a walk. I leave the apartment complex with AirPods, some random song playing in my ears, and go to the woods nearby. I found the familiar path through the woods. The birds are chirping and there are flowers here and there. The forest is giving away a different energy today, something I never have felt before. A gust of wind blows past me, almost pushing me off the trail. I look at the direction the wind is blowing. Should I? I just make sure not too far away from the trail. I follow the wind like I'm Pocahontas or something. I reach a door and furrow my brows. That's random, who would put a random door in the middle of the woods. I open the door like something else would be at the other side, but of course, it's just the same forest. My phone gives away the sound of a notification and I take out my phone as I go through the door. Just as I do that, I lose reception, weird. I close the door behind me and take off my AirPods as I look up.
I look around and notice I'm in some kind of garden, full of rose bushes. Impossible, a second ago it was just trees. I turn around to the door, if it took me wherever I'm then it can take me back. Just as I'm about to grip the handle, it fades away, like the rest of the door.
"No, no, stop it. come back!" I banged my hand on the door but keeps fading until it's gone and it's just bushes. Great, there went what could be my only way home. I look around, it's just roses. I walk around, trying to find my way from here. Survival mode on.
If I had any.
I reach what seems like a Medieval age's castle. How come it looks brand new while the rest in the world is in ruins? I try to find someone and just as I'm about to shout, a person walks by and by the sound of it, a horse is nearby. The bushes are in the way so I'm well hidden. I hate talking to strangers but I need to know where I am. Once again, just as I'm about to shout I stop myself. The bushes are no longer hiding the lower part of his body, his horse body. My eyes widen and my breath thicken. I must be dreaming. The centaur looks around like he could feel someone staring. I crouch down. I stay like that until I no longer hear his steps.
This can't be happening. Centaurs are supposed to be fiction, so why did I just see one? I must be dreaming. I pinch my arm and feel a bit of pain, okay so not dreaming. Still doesn't explain my whereabouts. Think Amy, you were on a walk, you left the trail and went through a randomly placed door. My eyes widened in realization. The door! I'm in a new place and I just saw a mythical creature. I must be in another world. Time to find out where and just work from there. I stand up and am met with an older man. I yelp leaves my lips and the man gets startled by my sudden appearance. After calming down for a few seconds I get a better look at him. He kinda looks like Santa, but shorter.
"I have never seen you before. Who may you be?" He asks. Pretty calm for someone that just saw a person come out of bushes.
"Me? Just nobody, no one!" Great Amy, lie when he seems nice and you need help. The man chuckles at my embarrassing state.
"Well, just 'Nobody.' Care to tell me your name and what you're doing here?" I look at the man that is staring at me very patiently. At least he doesn't see me as a threat. I sigh. I will sound crazy but it's the only explanation I can come up with.
"My name is Y/N L/N and I think I'm in the wrong world." Just as that leaves my lips, I realize how crazy that sounds. On the other hand, I just saw a centaur. The man just stands still, like he is comprehending what I just said. We just stay there staring at each other for some seconds until the man finally says something.
"Come with me." He says and walks away to the massive castle.
"Hey I'm not following a stranger anywhere, I don't plan on dying today!" I shout back. I was raised better than that. The man stops and turns around.
"Do you know where you are?" I shake my head. "Do you know how to get back to your own world?" Once again I shake my head. "Then follow me." Sorry mom, but I have questions and someone has the answers. I follow the man that is faster than you would think but I catch up fast.
"Excuse me sir, but where am I?" I ask. The man looks at me and then forward again. That man has a destination and he is determined to get there.
"You will get answers soon dear child." Good to know.
"Okay, but can I at least get your name." The man smiles at me, making me feel a bit calmer about this situation.
"I'm Professor Cornelius." Finally an answer! But why does his name sound familiar? I'm sure I never have meet him before, have I? As we walk to wherever he is taking me I notice the people around us. People dressing in Medieval clothing, dwarfs, minotaurs, and centaurs. I would think that we were on a movie set but I'm pretty sure we passed by a badger that was talking to a mouse.
We reach some enormous doors and the professor opens them up, looking around for someone. I slow down my steps. This place is magical, with pillars and a glass roof. It is so new yet so familiar. People were happily chatting, clearly happy for something since they have a small celebration of some sort. The deeper I go into the room the quieter the people get. Guess I crushed the party and I'm pretty sure I heard someone mention my clothes. When I reach the Professor I see him with his back turned to me while talking to someone and the surrounding people look at me with suspicion. Ignoring their staring, I look behind them. There are two thrones on a dais. Am I about to meet royalty?
"Miss Y/N, come here." Says the professor, taking me out of my thoughts. "There is someone you should meet." I walk the few steps to the professor and as he moves to the side I'm met with the most handsome man I have ever seen. He smiles and a warm feeling is spreading in my chest. The more I look at him, the more I realize.
I know who he is. I saw him just two hours ago.
"Miss Amy, let me introduce you to-" The professor starts, but my mouth worked faster than my brain and didn't let him finish.
"Caspian." His name leaves my lips. The man in front of me is Caspian. Everyone looks perplexed but I don't care, I can't stop staring into his eyes. They just give me comfort, I could stare into them forever. I finally know where I am.
"Professor Cornelius," Someone is talking but who I don't know. I just can't move. "I thought you said that she is from another world."
"She said that she is and her clothes are something I have never seen before. Also, she seemed so confused over where she is." He answered. Well, obviously my clothes are something you have never seen before, I'm from the 21st century.
"And how do we know she is telling the truth?" The same man asked. I finally find my voice and talk for the first time since I saw Caspian.
"I am in Narnia, aren't I?" I ask. Caspian chuckles and takes a step towards me.
"Yes my lady, you are in Narnia and I'm its king. Tho it seems you already know that." Caspian explained. I feel the blood rush to my cheeks and I look away from him. I look to my right and I see a balcony. Not saying another word I walk towards it. I can obviously hear someone laugh a bit and their footsteps following me but I keep going. While out I see the clearest ocean I have ever seen. A bit to the right and I see a cave in the distance. Must be the cave the Pevensies came from in the second movie. Someone stands beside me but my eyes are back on the ocean.
"Beautiful isn't it? It takes your breath away." Caspian. That man has been taking people's breath away for years.
"Yeah," I answered. A few seconds go by until I realize my mistake, he is royalty. "Your majesty." I bow, more or less. He laughs, gosh I could listen to that laugh forever.
"No need to bow and Caspian is just fine, Lady Y/N." Once again I feel the blood rush to my cheeks. I don't know if this is better or worse than watching him through a screen.
"Well then Caspian," I emphasize his name. "Call me Y/N." He put his hands on the rails and looks at me, the atmosphere goes from comfortable to extremely serious.
"Lady Y/N, I was told you were from a different world yet you know my name. I would really like to know why and how."
"I think it's for the best if we speak somewhere a little more private. Because what I'm about to say will change everything." He nods in understanding. A new world is nothing new to him, his friends and his ancestors were from another world. But what is new is that I'm not from the same one as the Pevensies.
"Follow me."

As It Should Be ~ Lucy x Caspian
A/N: Hello lovelies, so this is well out of my wheel house. But thanks to Shadow and Bone I am well and truly back on my Ben Barnes Bullshit. Which included re-watching the Narnia movies and then I had some feels. I'm completely ignoring the books and this is way AU but I couldn't get it out of my head. So if there's any Lucian shippers out there, this ones for you. Spoilers for the movies.
Summary: Lucy had not been ready to leave Narnia. And Caspian had not been ready for her to go. Perhaps fate still had a plan.
Characters/Pairings: Lucy Pevensie/Caspian (everyone is of age, time works funny between the realms); Edmund Pevensie, Aslan
Warnings: Fluff, a little bit of angst, pining, spoilers for the movies.
Word count: 5800 (I don't know how it happened. I just had a lot of feels)
Tumblr media
Caspian’s voyage on the Dawn Treader had been a success on all counts. But in spite of his resolve to be a great king of Narnia and to treasure the lands and people he had been chosen to rule, the young king was sorrowful on their return journey. His crew had known better than to question him when he returned alone from Aslan’s country. Drinian put a comforting hand on his shoulder, and Caspian clasped it for a moment before giving him a meaningful nod. Drinian got the Dawn Treader sailing for home while Caspian ducked below deck for just a moment to mourn the loss of his friends. When he returned, his smile was not quite so bright as it had been when the king and queen of old had been on the ship.
The crew was happy to be going home, but they also felt the loss of their companions quite acutely. It had taken no time at all for them to love Lucy and Edmund. The younger of the Kings and Queens of old were kind and hardworking and had immediately treated them as old friends. Narnia they supposed was their great love. And while Eustace had taken some extraordinary circumstances to warm up to, he too was missed, and they all found the ship far too silent with Reepicheep’s running commentary.
Their return took nearly six months as they returned all those who had been taken by the mist to their home islands. So, while the crew was joyous to be returning home after nearly two years, everyone was weary when they finally docked on the shores beneath Cair Paravel. Drinian directed the landing team, as more sailors came to help them unload. Caspian gazed up at Cair Paravel in all its glory. It had been mostly restored before he departed, but now, it was back to its true grandure, he wished Lucy and Edmund could have seen this.
He had only a moment before his advisors were upon him, welcoming him back and informing him that a feast was already being prepared for his return. They clamored for his attention, luckily with good news. They each were reporting that peace remained and things had grown even more bountiful in the past six months. Caspian listened carefully making notes on what to discuss with them tomorrow, before finally excusing himself to clean up before the feast.
After what could only be described as the most delicious meal he’d ever had, Caspian took his time reacquainting himself with the halls of his castle. During his time away, the team in charge of the interior restoration had finished all of their projects, which included the portraits of the Pevensies at the height of their rule. He inspected each one closely, trying to find the familiar features of his friends in the older faces.
For the most part he could see it. Although it was odd to see them at that age - all older than his 23 years. Well, all but Lucy. She had been just shy of 21 when they tumbled back through the wardrobe. She was the only one who never mentioned how hard it was to go from being an adult back to being an 8 year old. But he suspected that she struggled more than she let on, though she would never tell her siblings while they suffered their own distress. His thoughts lingered on the youngest of the great kings and queens. He couldn’t help but wonder if his dear friend would look the same when she reached 20 again.
Her portrait hung beside her sister’s and one could easily spot the differences. Susan held a quiet beauty, befitting her title of Gentle. But even the stillness of a portrait could not tame Lucy’s wild beauty and adventurous spirit. He knew well the twinkle of excitement the artist had captured. It was one that never failed to bring a smile to his face.
Caspian had been captivated by Lucy during their time on the Dawn Treader. More than he’d been willing to admit, even to himself. Though he suspected Edmund had seen it. He’d even expected a brotherly talk at one point, since Peter was absent. But he merely smiled, and took every opportunity to let them be together. Drinian had also made more than a few subtle comments, but Caspian had chosen to remain silent.
While the young prince had had eyes only for Susan upon their first meeting in terms of amorous intentions, Lucy’s unwavering faith and goodness had endeared her to him. When she stood across the river with only a dagger in her hand, facing down an army with a smile he could see why she of the four was the Valiant. She was amazing, even at age 11.
Her return 3 years later, had only deepened that opinion. She had matured and Caspian found himself lost in her. He’d been telling the truth when he told her that he hadn’t found a queen as beautiful as Susan, but what he left out was that there had been none as fierce as her either.
The pair had spent every possible moment together – stargazing, checking maps, telling stories. He loved her stories. Queen Lucy the Valiant had truly been a queen of her people. While her siblings had often been on the frontlines of battle, Lucy had always been protecting the people – evacuating them, learning from the healers how to dress wounds that didn’t require her cordial. She was the most beloved of the four, even in the stories Caspian had heard before he met them. Though she would refute that claim a thousand times over.
Other stories were filled with tales of dancing with fauns and dryads. Mr. Tumnus was a frequent character, and Caspian could hear the heartache in her voice when she spoke about him. He would often take the opportunity to squeeze her hand in comfort, which she also responded to with a grateful smile. Edmund would often join in, offering tales of his own or teasing Lucy.
One time in particular, he felt the need to remind her of the time a suitor had come to court and she had been so used to dancing with the fauns during their revelries that she panicked when he had offered his hand for a formal dance.
“All you could hear in the ballroom was Tristan grunting and Lucy apologizing,” Edmund chuckled.
Lucy’s cheeks flamed red and she glared at her brother for a moment, before a smirk slid across her features.
“At least I didn’t end up in a fountain after my first kiss,” she shot back.
Edmund’s cheeks tinged ever so slightly, but his expression was wistful.
“She was lovely. And it was worth it. I hope she had a good life.”
“I’m sure she did. But I’m sure she missed you.”
The siblings shared a look, regrets and memories flowing through their minds. Once again, Caspian was struck by how much life and loss these two “children” had experienced.
Later that night, after confirming their course with Drinian, Caspian was ready to retire to the barracks area for a few hours of sleep. But as he passed his quarters which he had given to Lucy, he heard humming. Moving as quietly as he could, he neared the cabin, noting the slightly ajar door. Caspian couldn’t help the smile that crossed his lips as he watched Lucy dance to her own tune as she looked in the mirror, the steps somewhat disjointed. He slipped inside, leaning against the doorjamb, making sure she couldn’t see his reflection.
“Would you like a partner?” he finally asked.
Lucy jumped at the unexpected voice, whirling as her cheeks filled with color upon realizing she’d been caught.
“Caspian! I was just… Edmund made me remember and I thought I’d practice.”
“In case we have a ball on the Dawn Treader?” he asked, grinning wildly at her.
“Of course. I’ve been to many balls on ships,” she giggled before sobering slightly. “No, but there’s dances back home. And I’ve never been, but I suspect they don’t much care for the type of dancing the fauns and dryads do.”
The mention of home twisted in Caspian’s gut, but he pushed the thought away. He would enjoy what time he had with her. Each moment was a gift.
“Well, I don’t know how they dance in your world, but it always helps to have a partner. May I?”
She nodded, uncharacteristically shy.
He snapped to attention and made a formal bow, which made her laugh but she curtsied anyway before taking his hand. He pressed a quick kiss to her knuckles, before placing her hand on his shoulder. His right hand fell to her waist, he his left clasped hers firmly.
“’Ready?”
“Absolutely?”
He wasn’t positive, but they both sounded breathless.
He began to hum, counting the beats by gently tapping his fingers against her side. He gave it a count of 8 before he began to move. It was rough at first, they were both out of practice… and nervous if he was being honest. But after a few crushed toes, they found their rhythm and soon they seemed to float. Caspian waltzed her around the room, twin smiles adorning their faces. Before they knew it, they were simply swaying in place gazing into each other’s eyes.
“I wonder if Susan is dancing like this with her naval officer,” Lucy wondered aloud, regretting it the moment it slipped past her lips. “Oh, I’m sorry, Caspian. I wasn’t thinking.”
He chuckled and shook his head.
“Don’t worry, Lucy. I’m not upset. I’m happy that your sister is moving on with her life. No one deserves to be alone.”
“But you’re alone,” Lucy pointed out.
Not cruelly, more confused by his logic.
“I’m not alone right now. I’m with you.”
And I will take that, he thought to himself. Just this moment and whatever else I get.
“Susan and I are worlds apart. In more ways than one,” he added slyly.
Lucy gazed up at him, no longer swaying at all.
“Caspian, I-“
At that moment, the ship lurched sending her crashing into his arms. It lurched again and sent them both to the floor. A storm had reached them and they heard the crew members racing about on deck. They shared one more moment before sprinting into action.
Tumblr media
“Your majesty.”
His chief advisor’s voice jostled Caspian from his memories.
“Lord Pallburn. How can I help you?”
“You requested updates on the refugees and the five lords.”
“Of course. We shall speak on the way to my chambers.”
Caspian shot one last look at Lucy’s portrait before leading his advisor away.
Tumblr media
Lucy sighed quietly as she watched the happy couple spin around the dance floor.
Years ago, on a ship a world away, Lucy had been held like that. Her thoughts strayed to Caspian and his near obsidian eyes. She had thought of him often in the years since. She wondered how long it had been for him.
Was he married by now?
A father?
Dead?
No.
Her heart couldn’t bear that last one. She had to believe Caspian was alive and well and happy or she wouldn’t be able to carry on.
She shook the thoughts away and returned to the view in front of her.
Susan was absolutely radiant in her wedding dress. Her smile lit up the room as Tom held her in his arms, leaning down for a peck as the song ended. They held hands as they exited the dance floor to chat with their friends.
Peter had his younger daughter, Jane, balanced on the top of his shoes as he moved them about in a decent facsimile of a waltz. Lucy smiled as she remembered her oldest brother doing the same with her when she was much younger.
Edmund was sitting with his girlfriend Margaret and their cousin Eustace laughing quite merrily.
With the exception of her cousin, Narnia had taken on the golden tint of a fond memory. But a memory none the less. Her siblings had been content to leave it at that. Lucy could not find it in her to do the same. Narnia had always felt more like home than this world. A fractured childhood would do that to you she supposed. After all she had grown up in Narnia first.
She still knew their customs and constellations better than England’s. But she knew it wasn’t just that. Her heart lay in Narnia, or rather with the King of Narnia. Caspian had a way of making Lucy feel seen when others didn’t.
“Enjoying the party, Lu?”
She nodded as she looked to Edmund who had slipped into the seat beside her.
“It’s wonderful. Everyone is having so much fun.”
“Everyone?”
“I’m having fun,” she insisted, knowing Edmund could see right through her.
“Talk to me.”
She looked again to the dance floor, eyes flitting from couple to couple.
“Do you think that I could ever find that here?”
“Love?”
Lucy nodded again.
“What makes you think you won’t?” he pressed, avoiding her question.
“I can’t imagine finding anyone to share my life with like that. There’s so much I couldn’t tell them. I don’t know how you all do it.”
Edmund hummed in response.
“Narnia meant everything to me. It made me who I am, but the only one who needs to know about it for it to be real is me. And I’m lucky enough that I got to share it with you, and Peter, Susan, and Eustace. Margaret doesn’t need to know what made me the man I am. Only that that man is someone she wants to be with.”
Lucy regarded her brother carefully for a moment. He’d clearly put a lot of thought into this and she appreciated it.
“I guess that makes sense. I guess I’m not ready to admit that Narnia is my past. Even though I have to.”
They were quiet for a moment.
“Is that the only reason you think you won’t find love here?”
Lucy knew where he was going with this, and finally she sighed – more an exhale after holding one’s breath.
“I think I loved him,” she whispered, not needing to specify who “him” was.
“Loved?” he clarified.
“Love,” Lucy corrected.
“He loves you too for what it’s worth. I could see it. Clear as the Northern Sky.”
“I don’t think it matters much. We’re worlds apart now. He’s probably married by now. I’m not sure how I managed it, but it seems I’ve left my heart in Narnia.”
Edmund wrapped an arm around her shoulder and tugged her into his side. She leaned her head heavily against his shoulder.
“What has been lost, can be found. We just need to have faith about these things. You taught me that.”
Lucy smiled at the reassurance.
“Thank you, Edmund.”
“Anything for you. Would you like to dance? We can even pretend we’re at Tumnus’,” he offered.
Lucy shook her head, but smiled more genuinely than she had all night.
“I think I’m going to take advantage of the gardens, and get some fresh air.”
“It’s not like there isn’t air inside,” he joked making her roll her eyes.
“I’ll be back soon.”
Edmund nodded and squeezed her once more before letting her go.
“Be safe.”
Lucy slipped through the crowd unnoticed, as usual. After a few minutes walking through the gardens she happened upon the entrance to a hedge maze. Looking back at the lights of the reception, she took a deep breath and hurried into the maze, following the turns at random.
It couldn’t possibly be big enough for her to actually get lost.
Tumblr media
Caspian perched on the rail of his balcony, one knee up as his back was pressed against the palace wall twirling Lucy’s dagger in his hand. If anyone entered his chambers they wouldn’t be able to see him unless they stepped outside. Closing his eyes, he leaned his head back against the stone enjoying the cool breeze off the Eastern Sea. He had chosen this room specifically for the view of the water. It had always calmed him, and now it held an even more special place in his heart.
In the morning, he would return to his duties as king and this journey would leave the forefront of his mind to make room for diplomacy and logistics. And if his advisors had their way, finding a queen. But for now, as the wind whipped around him, he could imagine that he was back on the Dawn Treader. And if he listened closely enough, he could hear Lucy’s familiar humming. He allowed his mind to run wild with memories.
When the humming only grew louder, even after shaking himself from the sweet memories, Caspian grew concerned. Alert now for possible danger, he scanned the grounds for the source of the sound.
The beach was clear. As were the cliffs to the north. But as he turned his gaze to the south, a flash of auburn hair in the garden maze caught his eyes. She was deep within the heart of the garden without alerting the guards which was no easy feat.
Fastening his sword belt on, he sheathed Lucy’s dagger which she had gifted him on the shores of Aslan’s country.
“I think you’ll need this more than I will.”
“It shall never leave my side.”
You shall never leave my heart had remained unspoken.
Not wishing to alert the guards, Caspian scaled down the side of the castle, jumping from the lowest window and rolling to his feet.
The wind was carrying the humming to his ears quite clearly, as though it was actively helping him find the intruder. At the edge of the maze he took a deep breath before stepping inside. He allowed himself to be led through the turns by the voice, although he was nearly certain it must be a trap. Surely it was a siren or some spell luring him with his heart’s desire. But still he pursued her.
A few times it seemed they were just on the other side of the hedge from each other, but he would round the corner and find only a dead end.
Finally, he caught a flash of lavender fabric whooshing around the corner and he sped up as well as he could while maintaining his stealth. Lucy’s dagger fit comfortably in his hand. Peeking around the corner to ensure she was coming, he waited until she had passed by before leaping out and grabbing her, the dagger pressed against her throat.
“Who are you? And what are you doing here?”
She froze in his arms.
“Caspian?”
The woman squirmed in his grip enough to see his face and in his surprise he let her.
“It is you. How on Earth did you get here?” she asked.
“Lucy?” he mumbled as he released her and she turned to look at him, giving him his first good look at her.
“Yes, it’s me. I know I look a bit different. But goodness, you haven’t aged a day,”
“Lucy,” he repeated before dropping the dagger and pulling her into his arms, burying his face in her neck.
She held him just as fiercely as if he would disappear if she let go for even an instant.
“I missed you so much,” he murmured. “I thought of you every day.”
“As did I. How long has it been for you?” she asked as she lifted her head to look at him, unwilling to break their embrace any further.
“Six months and thirteen days.”
Lucy huffed out a little laugh.
“Is that all?”
Caspian already knew it had been much longer for her. Years, he guessed, given how much she looked like her portrait.
“How long?”
“Six years. Four months. Eleven days.”
She’d been counting. In spite of knowing that Aslan’s plans for Narnia did not include her.
“Oh, Lucy,” Caspian sighed.
Years. She had thought of him every day for years. The knowledge made his heart beat faster.
“It’s okay. You’re here now. How on Earth are you here?” she asked again.
Caspian glanced upward, just to ensure he hadn’t been transported to her world, but sure enough his stars remained, twinkling down at him.
“Lucy, you’re in Narnia.”
Whipping her head around to gain bearings she didn’t know she’d lost, Lucy’s expression clouded with confusion.
“But how? I was at the wedding. I just stepped out for a few minutes –“ She paused and shook her head with a serene smile. “Things never happen the same twice,” she murmured. “Or four times I suppose. I’m not sure how it’s happened, but I am glad to be home.”
Caspian’s heart both clenched and soared at the word home. But he was still stuck on the earlier revelation.
“You were at a wedding?”
His mind raced as he took in her demure dress and artful curls.
Six years, his mind screamed. Even if she had thought of him, of course she would have found someone else in that time.
“Yes,” she affirmed absent-mindedly. “Of Susan will be so cross I’ve left her wedding.”
Elation.
“Susan’s wedding?”
“Yes.” Lucy’s face dropped. “Oh, I’m sorry, Caspian.”
“So you are not married?” he asked, ignoring the apology.
Lucy’s laughter was a balm to his soul.
“Goodness, no. Not even close. The closest I’ve come to marriage was holding hands with Dennis Macmillian when we were 17. And even that was mainly because I was slipping on the ice. I’ve never even gone for a stroll with a boy.”
Caspian smiled, pulling back just enough to offer her his arm.
“Well then, please, allow me. It would be a shame to waste such a lovely Narnian evening.”
“So it would,” she agreed, looping her arms through his. “Tell me everything I’ve missed,” she insisted as they walked deeper into the maze.
“There’s not that much to tell you. We’ve only just arrived back to Cair Paravel this morning. It took us several months to return everyone to their homes before we could return. Beyond that, I’ve just received reports of peace in Narnia.”
“That’s wonderful, Caspian.”
“I’m sure your time has been far more interesting. Tell me everything.”
“Longer doesn’t always mean more interesting.”
Caspian shot her a look of disbelief.
“I’m telling the truth. After the Dawn Treader we stayed with Eustace until the end of the War. After that, once Susan, Peter, and our parents returned, I went back to school. I learned how to become a nurse.”
“Did you now?”
“Mhmm. Top of my class even. It’s been fascinating to learn, although I still think the healers here have a better bedside manner. And goodness have there been days where I wished for my cordial on the job.”
“It sounds intense.”
“It is. But I love it.”
Her smile confirmed it.
“It suits you,” he agreed.
“Besides all that, not much has changed for me. I spend most of my time working or with my family, though that’s been difficult of late.”
“Difficult? Why?” he asked with a furrowed brow.
“They’ve all become convinced I’m doomed to become an old maid. Well, not everyone I suppose. Mainly my parents and Susan. Peter would prefer it that way, over protective as he is. And Edmund, well he just wants me to be happy.”
Despite her comments, the fondness she had for her siblings still shone through.
“I’m sure they all want you to be happy.”
“I know that. I just wish they wouldn’t keep trying to set me up. I think falling in love should happen naturally.”
She glanced up at Caspian who was watching her closely.
“As do I. So it sounds to me that you’re turning suitors down left and right.”
“Hardly,” she scoffed. “Although I think Susan believes that she’ll have a better chance at marrying me off now that she’s officially taken. They’ll have to settle for the lesser Pevensie sister.”
Caspian narrowed his eyes at the assertion, footsteps coming to a halt as he turned to face her.
“In what way lesser?”
“In every way,” Lucy laughed humorlessly.
“You are Queen Lucy the Valiant. The most beloved Queen Narnia has ever seen,” he reminded her, continuing on before she could argue with him. “You are amazing. You are in no way lesser.”
His words made her smile but it didn’t reach her eyes.
“That may be who I am here. But in my world, I’m just Peter and Susan’s little sister. An afterthought.”
Caspian hated to hear her talk about herself like that.
“Then everyone in your world must be fools. You are valiant and beautiful in every world.”
Lucy found herself unable to hold his intense gaze.
“I’m not beautiful like Susan.”
He lifted her head up with a finger underneath her chin, forcing her to look at him.
“Perhaps not. But you’re beautiful like you. And brave. And kind. And loving. And a million other wonderful things.”
“No one’s ever seen me the way you do.”
“It’s an honor to know you this way, Lucy.”
He reached up cradling her cheek before sliding his fingers into her hair.
“I love you.”
It was a relief to finally say it out loud, and her smile was well worth it.
“I love you too, Caspian. I have for a long time.”
He leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to her lips. When he pulled away, he leaned his forehead against hers.
“I was so scared I’d never see you again,” she whispered.
“I was too. I was certain that I’d lost my chance. But you’re here now.”
“I am.” She looked around and somehow he knew she was looking for Aslan. “But I still don’t know why.”
“I’m sure Aslan has his reasons.”
“He usually does,” Lucy agreed with a smile. “I’m sure we’ll figure it out in time. For now…”
“For now, I’m just going to be grateful. And enjoy every second of my time with you.”
“I like that plan.”
They walked through the gardens for a time before Caspian escorted her up to the castle.
Tumblr media
Sure enough they spent the next few weeks enjoying their time together. In fact the entire kingdom rejoiced at the return of their queen. But with no indication as to why she was there, soon a quiet anxiety crept in.
Neither Lucy nor Caspian were willing to make too many plans when they didn’t know when she would be returning, so instead they focused on ensuring Narnia was well taken care of. Lucy helped Caspian reinstate the High Council so that every type of creature was represented. Caspian watched in awe as the land flourished and now that everyone had a voice they found it even easier to keep peace. In fact, many days it seemed there wasn’t much ruling to do at all. So he spent more time with his people than ever, which he loved.
And he grew to love Lucy more every day. He knew at some point that she would have to leave, to return to her family, but he also knew that he couldn’t bear to be without her. His decision was made, although he was sure that many would consider it selfish.
Which is why a year after she arrived, Caspian led Lucy into the maze he had found her in.
“This is quite lovely. We haven’t done this in a while. What brought this on?” she asked as they walked.
“Well, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately. And I have a question for you. And I thought this would be the best place to ask it.”
She tilted her head in question, noting the slight nervousness in his voice.
“What kind of question?”
“An important one.”
They had reached the center of the maze and Caspian led Lucy to sit on the edge of the fountain that contained a stone carving of Aslan. He hoped it would bring them the Great Lion’s blessing.
He took both her hands in his as he sat beside her on the edge of the fountain.
“Lucy, my love, ever since I first met you, you have been a source of strength and someone who I have never failed to believe in. On our first adventure I learned never to overlook you, and I am eternally grateful for learning that lesson. Because it allowed me to see you for who you are on our second adventure. On the Dawn Treader, I fell in love with you. And the day I had to say goodbye to you it felt as if my heart would never be whole again. But by the grace of Aslan, you were returned to me. And I have spent the past year falling more and more in love with you. I’m not sure how long we have left in Narnia, but I don’t want to waste another moment without asking you to be my wife.”
She gasped as Caspian shifted down onto one knee.
“There is no other I would bind myself to. I love you, Lucy Pevensie. And my only wish is to have you by my side for as long as you’ll have me. Will you marry me?”
“Of course.”
She tackled Caspian to the ground in a very unladylike move, and kissed him soundly.
“Of course I’ll marry you.”
Caspian’s smile was brilliant as he reached up to cradle her face before pulling her down for another kiss. They reveled in their new engagement alone for a while longer before deciding to return to the castle.
They were nearly out of the maze when they saw a flash of golden fur.
“Aslan?”
Lucy took off after the lion and Caspian was right on her heels. He couldn’t help but wonder at the timing.
They made it back to the fountain and found the lion himself in front of his stone counterpart.
“Aslan, it is you.”
Lucy launched herself at him, burying her face in his fur.
“Hello, dear one.” It came out in a deep rumbling laugh.
Caspian knelt before Aslan, keeping his eyes on the ground.
“Rise, King Caspian.”
“Aslan, what are you doing here?”
“I’ve come to talk to you about your future, dear one.”
Caspian felt unease coil in his stomach.
“My future here or…?”
Lucy took a step back to stand next to Caspian taking his hand in hers.
“That is your decision to make, Lucy. Your heart longed for Narnia when you returned home. You had not been ready to leave it behind. Is that still true?”
She looked to her betrothed and considered her words carefully.
“I could leave Narnia. But I cannot leave my heart. I cannot leave Caspian. Not again.”
Aslan turned his massive head towards the king – looking at him expectantly.
“Caspian?”
The king lifted Lucy’s hand to kiss her knuckles, looking to her as he answered.
“Narnia was the only home I ever knew. But Lucy is the only home I will ever need. I would leave Narnia if she wished me to. If you would allow it,” he added as he finally turned to face Aslan.
“Caspian?” Lucy gasped at him.
Aslan seemed to nod so Caspian continued, looking back to his love.
“Lucy, in the past year we’ve changed Narnia. It is ruled by its people. As it should be. They don’t need a king. But I need you.”
Tears gathered in the corners of her eyes, but there was no mistaking her smile.
“Are you sure?”
“I am,” he assured her.
Lucy kissed him for a moment, before turning to Aslan.
“Aslan, is it possible?”
He huffed a laugh and nodded with a shake of his mane.
“Yes, dear one. It is possible. All is as it should be with Narnia thanks to you. But you both must be sure.”
They shared a look before turning back to Aslan.
“We’re sure,” they said in unison.
“But we must not abandon Narnia this time,” Lucy insisted. “I want to say goodbye properly.”
“Of course. You two can stay as long as you like, you have earned that. When you are ready return to this fountain and take the path behind it.”
They both peeked around as the hedge directly behind Aslan’s statue opened up. If she listened closely Lucy could hear the music of the reception.
“You’ll be returned to when you left,” Aslan answered her unspoken question.
Lucy hugged him again and Caspian joined in this time.
“Thank you, Aslan.”
“Thank you, for all you have done for Narnia. It is better for knowing you, dear heart.”
Tumblr media
Lucy and Caspian were married after six months on the day before they stepped down and allowed the high council full rule over Narnia. Surprisingly, no one begrudged them their decision. Narnia was happy and they saw that they could rule themselves and be their own heroes.
Two years to the day after Lucy arrived, they said their final goodbyes to the land that had given them so many gifts, the dearest of which was each other.
Hand in hand they entered the maze and followed the turns to the center. With one last look at the great stone lion, they walked through the hedge behind him, coming out into a dark night. Lucy was once again in her lavender bridesmaid dress. Luckily she had had the foresight to have a suit made for Caspian so he would blend in.
“Shall we?” she asked, excited to see her family after so long. Well so long for her. Just moments for them.
“Are you sure I shouldn’t just wait here until after the wedding? How are we going to explain me just turning up?” Caspian asked, daunted by the new world around him.
It was louder than Narnia, and undeniably strange. Lucy cupped his cheek, and kissed him.
“The evening is nearly over. The others will want to see you. You were at the other party and we ran into each other in the garden. You’re an old friend from our time with the professor. And I insisted that you come say hello and congratulate Susan in person.”
“You’ve thought about this,” he teased, considering the plan in his head.
“Of course. It was the first thing I thought when you threatened me with my own dagger,” she reminded him with a mocking look.
“Oh really?” Caspian chuckled, quirking an eyebrow at her.
“Yes. Right after ‘he’s here. Maybe I get to be loved after all’.”
“You are so loved, my valiant Lucy. And I shall love you forever. In every world.”
She smiled up at him, blissfully happy.
“And I you, Caspian.”
They shared one more kiss before walking hand in hand back to reception. Everything was as it should be.

Peter hearing about the Dawn Treader summer? Lucy/Edmund telling him? I don't know haha I just think it would be interesting
A/N: I don’t like leaving asks unanswered for very long, so it’s a little unpolished, but I hope you like it!
Forever a King of Narnia
“He’s only been back a week, Lu, and you’ve already asked him about his exams a bazillion times. If he knew how he’d done he wouldn’t’ve waited till the fiftieth time you asked to tell us.”
Peter laughed and lay back down on the grass. “Ed’s right. I’m not withholding some fascinating tidbit of information. They were exams and I hated it, what more were you expecting?”
From the corner of his eye he could see Lucy sticking her tongue out at him and Edmund. “Only trying to start conversation. What do you want to talk about then, geniuses?”
Peter bit his lip. He’d avoided the subject of Narnia since he’d returned, not so much out of bitterness as concern. He’d spent the whole summer with the Professor, and while they’d mostly discussed his schoolwork, the Professor had also retold him all the old stories of Narnia. He’d gotten to see the old wardrobe: though of course it no longer led to home, there was something soothing about being so close. But he hated to rub it in that he’d gotten such an opportunity when they’d been stuck with Eustace all summer. He’d thought that Ed or Lucy might bring it up on their own, but for some reason they seemed just as hesitant to broach the subject.
Lucy gave an exasperated huff. “...Does he still have the wardrobe?”
Peter glanced at her, surprised at the note of hesitance in her voice. “I- yes, of course. It barely fits in his office, but I don’t think he could bear to get rid of it.” He swallowed and added gently, “It doesn’t go anywhere now though, you know. I tried... I wonder what all our old friends are up to.”
Edmund and Lucy exchanged a strange look, and Peter frowned. “What?”
Edmund grinned. “Are you going to tell him or should I?”
Peter sat straight up, flushing red as his hair fell into his face. “WHAT?!”
Edmund pressed his lips together, badly trying to hide his smile. “Caspian said to say hello. And that Trumpkin talks about you all the time-” he deepened his voice in an imitation of the dwarf- “This would never have happened if the High King was here.” Both him and Lucy burst into giggles as Peter stared at them in disbelief.
“You got back?! But how? You’ve only been home a couple of weeks longer than me-”
“Not here,” Lucy interrupted. “At Eustace’s. He came with us by accident. He’s actually rather nice now, I think being a dragon did him a lot of good.”
Peter just stared at them, now roaring with laughter. “If you’re joking, tell me now. It isn’t funny.”
“We’re not joking. Why would we be joking about something like that?”
“You’re laughing, aren’t you? Eustace was a?-” He took a deep breath in, desperate hunger stirring in his chest. Narnia. Then he swung a mock punch at Edmund.
Edmund easily dodged it. “What-”
Peter hit him lightly on the chest with his other hand and grinned. “That’s for waiting a week to tell me, you little prat.” He reached over and flicked Lucy, who scrambled away, still laughing. “And that’s for asking me about exams when we could have been talking about Narnia!!”
Lucy looked as if she were barely keeping herself from exploding with excitement. “We didn’t know how to bring it up was all! We thought you’d’ve mentioned it sooner! Where should we start, anyways?”
His chest felt tight and he leaned forward, almost too eager to bear it. “How are Caspian and Trumpkin and all the others? What did you do? It must have been quite an adventure if it was able to improve Eustace. Go on, tell me every little detail. I want to know everything.”
Edmund and Lucy both began speaking at once, talking and laughing and adding details the other had forgotten, and Peter leaned forward, hanging on to each word as if it were a gem.  Aslan had told him to go back to his own world, he thought, with a small smile: well, he had, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t hang onto the scraps of home as they came.

Part 1 | masterlist  | read on ao3
“Your world is quite...loud,” Caspian states, looking around the room. He was sat on Y/N’s bed, his hand in hers, looking rather confused.
“There’s a lot more people and buildings,” Edmund responds. He was leaning against the doorway with his arms crossed. “Not to mention, horses aren’t exactly used as modes of transportation here.” Caspian stuck out like a sore thumb within the group; he adorned his sword like normal and was dressed in his long, leather coat and mid-calf boots. Whereas the rest of the room was wearing sweater vests, clean pants, and knee-length skirts. Caspian’s finger traced the plaid pattern on the Y/N’s skirt.
“How did you get here?” Lucy asks, addressing the elephant in the room. Caspian sighs, looking a bit solemn.
“Well, it’s a bit of a long story,” He glances at the painting on Y/N’s wall. “Is that the Dawn Treader?”
“Yes, that’s how we got to Narnia last time. It started spouting water and flooded this room,” Y/N pointed towards her desk, which was mostly filled with Lucy’s stationary supplies. “That’s the chair that hit me.”
“It flooded the room?”
“Yes, it was quite scary.” Eustace enters the room, holding a book about the invention of flashlights. “How are you here? Are we going back to Narnia?”
“Hello, Eustace. And I’m not sure. Aslan sent me here in search of you,” He looked over at Y/N and gave her hand a squeeze.
“Me? Why would Aslan need you to look for me?” Y/N got her first good look at his eyes for quite some time. They were a deep brown and had a kind sparkle in them; they made Y/N’s knees turn weak.
“Well, I’m set to be married in the next fortnight.” Y/N instantly let go of his hand and stood, walking away from him. Her face showed nothing but sadness and betrayal.
“What? How could you?” Y/N’s voice trembled as she spoke, no matter how hard she tried. She could feel the tears well in her eyes before threatening to cascade down her cheeks. Caspian stood right after her and reached his hands in her direction.
“You didn’t let me finish! Since I am the only ruler of Narnia since the Kings and Queens of Old left,” He gestured towards Edmund and Lucy with one of his outstretched hands. “My advisors decided it was in my best interest to find a queen to help me rule. We’ve been trying to become allies with a neighboring kingdom for much time now and they believe it will make the deal go by smoother,” Caspian takes a deep breath.
“Well, that makes some sense, I guess. I see where they’re coming from…” Edmund comments, earning a death glare from his cousin. Caspian sends him a look before continuing.
“Anyway, they set up the wedding without my consent. In return, I talked to Aslan. He said that he knows there is a certain girl who I would be much happier ruling with and that I need to find her again.”
Y/N turned around and looked at Caspian. He was much taller than her, so his head was tilted slightly down to look into her eyes.
“So, you found a way to come here.”
“Well, no, not exactly. Aslan provided that. He dropped me into a stone courtyard that was occupied by a ton of people. There were a ton of goods and food, and the people there were buying everything by the basket full! I didn’t know food was so valuable in this world. I wasn’t very interested in the courtyard so, I started walking in an attempt to find one of you,”
“The farmer’s market! I was about to go there!” Lucy exclaimed.
“Farmer’s market?”
“Local farmers and vendors come to sell their goods. It’s been a bit sparse due to the war, but it’s the cheapest way to shop for food.” Lucy forgot how much different Narnia was from her world. All of the Pevensies and the two Scrubbs had to remind themselves that Narnia natives didn’t have the same normalizes as they did growing up.
“I see. Y/N told me much about the battle happening in this world during the long days on the sea. The people at this, so-called, farmer’s market didn’t like my sword very much, which is odd. I thought they would feel safer.” Caspian’s hand fell to the hilt of his sword unconsciously.
“Yeah, people here get a bit nervous around weapons, especially right now. Here, the weapons don’t really mean safety. People think you’re going to attack them, rather than protect them.” Edmund pushed off the door and walked towards the newcomer. “If you’re going to stay here, you need to get out of those clothes so you blend in a bit better.”
“What? No!”
“Yes! You won’t be able to fit into mine, but maybe our uncles.” Edmund left and came back with a neatly stacked pile of old-man looking clothing. “I know it’s not great, but it’s better than what you’re wearing.”
“Love, the washroom in the second door to the right. Go change.” Y/N gently pushed the King towards the door. Once he was gone, Lucy turned towards Y/N.
“I think he wants you to go back to Narnia with him, Y/N!”
“What? No, he doesn’t, Lu. This is just a weird set of circumstances.”
“Think about it, there is a certain girl who I would be much happier ruling with. Y/N, that’s you!”
“Well, are you going to go?” Edmund presses, nearly tripping on Eustace, who was sitting on the floor with his book open.
“He hasn’t even asked me to go,”
Caspian walked into the room dressed head to toe in an attire meant for someone in their 60’s. He wore a button-up shirt with stripes on it, a vest and red tie, a pair of gray slacks, and pointy dress shoes. The outfit wouldn’t be that bad, but each article of clothing was about 2 sizes too big and did no justice for his body.
Y/N giggled, “You look like my dad,” Caspian looked desparately at Edmund.
“It’s better than my clothes, they would be 2 sizes too small.”
“You look great as always, Cas,” Lucy complimented. “So, what did you mean by another girl to rule with you?”
“I wasn’t clear?” Caspian looked at each of their faces. They were staring at him intently, even Eustace tore his eyes from his book. Caspian’s gaze stuck on Y/N’s, a small smile growing on his lips. “Y/N, I wouldn’t want anyone but you to be my queen.”
Y/N’s face turned red, all confidence drained from her body and was replaced with shyness. Her? Marry Caspian and become a queen?
“You want to marry me?”
“Well, of course I want to marry you.”
“What about the princess?”
“Aslan told me to find you, so I doubt he would be bothered with you coming back.” He smiled a toothy grin, his white teeth almost glowing.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, Y/N. I’m sure. Will you come back to Narnia with me and become my queen?”
Y/N looked at Edmund and Lucy for help, but both just held warm smiles.
“Alright, yeah, okay. I can do that.”
Caspian smiled and took his soon-to-be-wife into his arms. “Good, because in Narnia I don’t have to wear itchy tweed trousers.”

Hey, I want to be part of the Narnia game if it isn't too much of a bother
I'm a straight male with short curly red hair, I have light brown eyes almost golden I am full of freckles. I am 6' tall, a gryffindor/ravenclaw.
I have an almost Deadpool like humor, im very protective over my friends and the last person to back down from a fight, if it ever gets to kne usually it doesn't. I always (involuntarily) have a RBF everytime I enter a room so people that don't know me tend to think I'm mean or extremely serious. I'm already leader, always have been president of any organization I join
I actually am a little serious and I suck at opening up to people j prefer to let my feeling drown inside of me. Only people that really know me would be able to get me to open up.
I'm a very passionate stubborn person, who loves to argue with people just for the thrill of it.
I think around the prince Caspian movie would be great for me to come in if its ok.
I'm want the wife thing you mentioned the topic well, surprise me
I'd also prefer if the race was human,
If you need more info don't be afraid to message me
If you can do this thank you very much, I actually have been following you for a while now and have made a few asks before, I absolutely love your work and hope you keep doing what you are doing because honestly it blows my mind everytume I read something of yours
Heya ! Nope it doesn't bother me at all ! Yep I remember the marvel ship , it was the one of those last ships I did before the celebration ! I'm glad you love my work and HAHA, thank you for telling me that I blow your mind lol lol ! Hmm, the info is enough , I'll pick some points from the previous ship request because I remember I shipped you with Nat :)
This is the info that I'm taking additionally , if you don't mind . But if you do , dm me/send in an ask , I'll change it as per your request :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How you enter the magical world of Narnia
You were returning back from a fight which was about to get physical , the road was empty except for the trees in the side. You were too stubborn to budge and the man was too egoistic to agree with his mistake . Kicking the stone casually , you kept walking until you heard a hustle in the nearby tree . Your doubts instantly told you that it could be that crazy man and so , you decided to approach the source of the noise . As soon as you stepped in , the ground wasn't present to support your feet . Falling down vigorously , you landed on a rather soft ground . A beach , to be precise . Narnia , to summarise it .
The weapon you yielded
Sword . It matches you so much . A sword will never give up until it breaks or looses it's sharpness . The sword is brave and reckless , faces the challenge head on and on a short range . You'd often learn/challenge swordfighting from/to Peter and Edmund (more often Edmund) .
Your wife
I ship you with Lucy . Do I have any doubts ? No . Not one . I thought of susan but you both wouldn't hit off . You need a girl who's strong and brave but underestimated very often . Lucy will not judge you , she's the sweetest human I've ever come across in any fandom and will stand up against anyone for you .
The Era/Movie you enter Narnia
The Chronicles Of Narnia : Prince Caspian
What the Narnians think about you
To be honest , most of them are proud to have a warrior like you . They love you and are inspired by your tough exterior . They think of you as the rock which never breaks and always stands it's ground and is serious. The army of Narnia are given your example to be trained and getting trained by you personally is a sheer blessing . They think you're one of the great warriors whom Aslan's sent for their protection . You're a household name .
What the Pevensie siblings think about you
Peter Pevensie : Facing this bery clearly , he hated you in the beginning . You both are stubborn as hell , so clashes are pretty common . Especially since you're entering the second movie , damn . He'll use his sword on you for real , trying to kill you since you were with Caspian . Also , you would side with Lucy and he'd hate it since he wants everyone to agree with him and wants you to stay away from his sister . Still , after everything , it's not that he likes you too much . But he's okay with you , mostly because of his sister (don't worry this is just a cover up , he likes you and is okay with you)
Susan Pevensie : She . Is . A . Fan . Of . Yours . Definitely , arguing needs a thing called brain and Susan likes and appreciates people who have it . She'll often try to learn your arguing tactics and stuff , but she'll love you as a brother too . She'll often disapprove your stubbornness but would still like how you stand your ground . She'll give you wise advices .
Edmund Pevensie : He'll be cold with you in the beginning . Very cold . He'll be protective of Lucy and would want to make sure that you won't hurt his sister . Ofcourse , once he comes to know the softie you are , he'll warm up with you and then , I'll just give a warning of teasing . You both would tease the hell out of Lucy and others . You both are going to be like bestfriends , sometimes making lucy think you both were long lost brothers . You both would often have swordfighting competition and you both would tie , always .
Lucy Pevensie : I was waiting for this one . She would never judge you and often feel a sense of likeness towards you . She wouldn't know why , but she'll always be there for you anytime you need someone . Out of all the siblings , lucy was the first one to get you open up . She will instantly see your soft heart and tough exterior thing and would always talk nicely with you . She'll even drop hints of tips that you might've needed at the moment . She'll love you all the way to the moon and back . Often , she'll blush when your name will be spoken in front of her and would get lost in your thoughts .
What Caspian thinks about you
He literally loves your company as a friend . Whenever he'll hear you coming , he'll find some free time in his busy schedule to spend time with you . He really respects you and will always be there for you when you wanna vent or anything. He'll also really like your never-give-up thingy and would appreciate you for that . Swordfighting would be a fun activity you both do together .
What Aslan thinks about you
Okay , I can't read that clever lion's mind , but I'm sure he's really proud of you . He really loves you and just wants you to remember that you're amazing ! You'll always have his blessings with you and he'll always be by your side, even when there's no one .
A short blurb on your life in Narnia
You'd land in Narnia , the beach to be precise and explore the ruins of the magnificent castle . Walking around aimlessly , you'll meet Caspian the X and will unite with him . He'll teach you a bit swordfighting but by Aslan's grace , you'll have a natural talent and will learn most of the things(from the experienced Centaurs) in very short span of time . You'll be a great support to Caspian , who'll trust you and assign you with the Army . You'll lead the Army bravely until you see a girl peaking through the bushes (lucy is a bit older , canon) . You'll point your sword at her but not hurt her . Her brother , Peter , will begin a fight with you , causing Caspian and later , Edmund to interfere in it . You all would stop as soon as the same girl shouts to . Later , you'll come to know the beautiful girl's name was lucy . Now , from walking to the how and Lucy asking you to be safe in the first war to half-leading(because Peter took the half) the Army , you were now bidding a goodbye to Lucy Pevensie , the love of your life. She had been your support system (emotionally and mentally) , so you knew you were going to miss her . But , you were worried that she'd forget you . Skipping to three years later , you reunited with Lucy and Edmund , who were now older . Lucy looked more beautiful and you realised that in the past time your feelings had simply grew . But so had your skills . You were Narnia's best swordsman . Beating Edmund . Finally , from traveling to the lone islands to fighting your worst fear and saving people , you were at the entrance of Aslan's country when Aslan permitted either lucy to go with you in your time , or you to go with lucy in her time . I'll leave it upon you to choose .. but whichever you did , you and lucy lived happily ever after
Your post
Prince Caspian - You'll lead the Army
Voyage of the Dawn Treader - Head of the Narnian Army (even the King is under you in case of wars )
I hope you liked it !
Thank you for participating !

                                      THE WINTER NARNIAN GIFT EXCHANGE.
                                   for @kadmeread  by  @tarragonthedragon .
LACKING.
Edmund had always considered himself more similar to Susan than to Peter or Lucy. This had been the cause of some contention between the two of them– from Susan, who even at seven had liked to think herself much more grown up and sensible than her baby sister or her two brothers, and from Edmund, who hadn’t realised until he was at least twelve that Susan thought herself to be the only one with any brains at all almost as often as he did. It was, perhaps unfairly on either, a relief to both of them when the siblings, in Narnia or in England, found themselves split into older-and-younger, or brothers-and-sisters, since it meant that even if they didn’t happen to be correct on this particular occasion, then at least the other wasn’t there to be correct instead. Peter had been a wise king, and even when they were young again usually explained why he didn’t agree with them. And he was both of their older brother, which always made it sting a little less when he made the decisions. And Lucy, while rather more prone to gleeful I-told-you-so’s than any of her siblings, was eminently tolerable once they had been old enough once over to realise that she wouldn’t have been half as delighted to be right if she didn’t consider them both rather intelligent to begin with. Susan and Edmund left alone together, even well into middle age, were almost guaranteed to solve any problem that relied on wits or cleverness, but only once one or both of them had been in tears. Lucy and Peter, by contrast, had been the best of friends since she was just a baby, climbing his trousers and running to him in tears whenever Edmund, competitive even at five, had knocked his fellow toddler over.
Standing on the prow of the Dawn Treader, looking out at the empty water, Edmund wished Peter were here to talk to Lucy, to say just the right things and make it look like it was easy. Or Susan, who would probably just know somehow what had been bothering her since the Duffers’ island, and he could be angry at her for acting like it was obvious, instead of furious with himself for not knowing. But Lucy wouldn’t be standing here staring at the skyline if it was him who was hurt. Lucy, who always seemed certain of what she was going to do next, even if it wasn’t the cleverest or kindest thing, because it was almost always the best she could do. Lucy was the one who pushed, and let the others hold her back or be dragged along as they wished, because they hadn’t let her push on ahead since they had first come through the wardrobe together.
But it was just Edmund. Or, well, Edmund and Eustace, who was a loss less of an ass but still as much of a know-it-all as ever, and who was perched on a beam with Reepicheep again anyway. It would be like talking to Susan, except if Susan really was as stupid as he sometimes acted like she was in uncharitable moments.
This was probably an uncharitable moment. It would be even more uncharitable to assume that Peter and Susan and Lucy didn’t have those. Even if it did always seem unfairly easy for them to be kind, and nice, and good. Edmund only ever seemed to have a decent handle on good.
“You’re moping,” Eustace said, from right next to him. Edmund did not jump.
“I’m watching the horizon,” he replied, which had the benefit of being factually true if not much else.
“Is it because of whatever’s bothering Lucy?” Eustace asked. Clearly he had learnt a little more about being a decent chap, though Edmund rather sourly considered that if he had learnt any more he might not have come over to bother him.
Uncharitable again. This, frankly, was why Lucy didn’t usually let him alone for more than a day or so. If he forgot how annoying his siblings were, he started to remember how much more annoying he found everyone else.
“That’s a yes, then,” Eustace carried on. The area around them was suspiciously free of sailors, because Reepicheep was a little traitor. “Well, it’s not like I know anything about younger sisters–”
“No, you don’t.”
“But when I was brooding, you sent Reepicheep to hit me with a sword, and if you don’t talk to her I’m going to just assume the same tactic will work again.”
“You can’t–” Edmund broke off, scowling at Eustace’s gleefully smug face. “The difference is, I actually like Lucy when she’s herself.”
“I probably deserve that,” Eustace admitted. “But I promised Caspian I wouldn’t be an ass if he let me do this talk, so really I should be commended for the work I’m putting in.”
If Peter had said that, Edmund would have been certain it was a joke. With this new, rather less annoying and slightly less incompetent version of his cousin, it was very much a guess either way. He was spared having to respond by a shout of land, and rushed to his station.
Of course, because this was a magical voyage in Narnia, the shout of land led them to a lost lord and an island of thick mist and even before they saw anything Edmund could hear her, hear it, hear his nightmares looming down on them.
He was not much good at comforting his siblings. He was becoming worryingly good at resisting the call of the White Witch.
Lucy, because of course, was already making quick work of the horrors coming down upon them whilst he was transfixed. Lucy, who got angry instead of scared, leaped down to the deck in front of her brother with a kind of barely-human snarl the second Jadis was vanished, arrows flying and dagger flashing, not missing a step when he reclaimed himself enough to join the battle. And of course the sea serpent didn’t scare her, or if it did it didn’t stop her firing an arrow clean into the creature’s head.
He had never had a head for archery. Fighting was a lot easier, in Edmund’s book, when you had a sword and ‘at something’ was a good enough direction to swing it in a pinch. Clearly Eustace agreed with him, since he had managed to break one on scales like stone. Maybe it was a particular madness of the Pevensie sisters, because Susan didn’t get scared either, always channelling it into doing something useful.
Lucy sat down next to him behind a lashed-together row of barrels. “You’re thinking too much.”
“You don’t think enough,” he said, on fourteen-to-fifty years of fraternal instinct more than conscious thought.
“Well one of us has to be impulsive. You’d never get anything done if we sat around waiting for you three to decide what to do next.”
“Usually, we’re sitting around arguing about whose turn it is to hold onto you by the collar, actually.”
She huffed indignantly through her nose. “It’s not like I’m ever leading you wrong. I remember quite a lot of I-told-you-sos, when we were here the first time. And the second time, for that matter.”
“Not this time?”
“This time, we’ve got Eustace instead of Peter and Susan. There’s no fun in it with you two, you just mope and he ignores me.”
“I don’t mope,” he protested, biting back the urge to cry hypocrisy. “I ponder.”
“Maybe when you were a grown-up you’re pondered. You’re a teenager again, and you’ve been moping an awful lot.”
Edmund laughed. “He’s getting a lot better,” he said, making the most of the lack of uncharitable urges while it lasted. This turned out to be only a few seconds. “Aunt Alberta will be furious.”
Lucy hummed in agreement, and then paused, flopping over onto him. “I still wish we had them instead. I was just thinking, before– before the island. I was thinking that Peter would know exactly how to handle Eustace. And how to talk to him now that he’s not such a terror. And Eustace would probably listen to him.”
“People do,” he agreed. For a moment they made equally crinkled-nose expressions of frustration in silence, both thinking of being a king and queen grown. “I was thinking that if Susan were here, she’d have an answer for everything.”
Lucy went quiet. “I’ve been having rather uncharitable thoughts about Susan lately,” she admitted after some time.
Edmund bit back his initial response, which would not have been helpful. Lucy didn’t sound like she expected him to have much of a good response, but it wasn’t like anyone else on the ship would have a better one. “Would it shock you at all to know that I have uncharitable thoughts about Susan almost every time I talk to her? Sometimes even just hearing Caspian mention her is enough to set me off.”
“Edmund!”
“Just yesterday we went past a rock that looked a bit like her and I thought, she’d be awfully smug if I told her I thought that.”
“I saw that rock!” Lucy exclaimed before she could catch herself, and then bit down on her grin. “And anyway, I don’t mean..”
When it seemed like she wasn’t going to find the right words, Edmund sighed. “I always rather imagine that Susan has as many uncharitable thoughts about me as I do about her. It’s the ones about Peter I feel guilty about.”
“He can be quite annoying when he thinks he’s right.”
“He always thinks he’s right. And in charge. Somehow it’s less irritating when you do it.”
“I do not!” She pushed herself off his shoulder, glaring. “You always think you’re right, too!”
“So does Susan,” he commented. “And Eustace. Clearly there’s an awful lot of pride in the blood on that side.”
“Maybe that’s what’s needed in Narnia. Noone here seems to think like that.”
“It can’t be too bad, then, can it?”
Lucy bit her lip again, looking all of nine. “Or we’re supposed to learn better.”
“We did learn better,” he pointed out. “At least, I did. Eustace has. And you grew up an awful lot, the first time.”
“We all did. But then…”
There was nothing to be said for being young again, but at least she looked pensive rather than upset.
“Come on,” Edmund said, pulling himself up. “I’m going to borrow you a sword. Eustace doesn’t look nearly as scared of you as he should be, after that shot. We’ll have a spar on the starboard deck.”
Lucy grinned, thwacking his arm as he pulled her after him, but didn’t argue.

narnia analysis
so i’m just gathering here all of the analysis i’ve read about narnia so far?? I think it’s pretty cool ngl
a note: i’m not going to hecking mention the v obvious and already explained christian allegory with aslan being jesus and edmund representing humanity and the witch being satan and all that jazz.
DISCLAIMER: absolutely none of this belongs to me except for the odd bit of prose in the edmund section
first up, names! credit for this goes to @thoughtfox72 (you can find the original post here)
- peter means rock, which ties in well as he’s the “rock” of the family. It’s also a reference to good ol’ st. peter- in matthew 16:18 (the bible), peter is called “the rock upon which my church was founded”.
- edmund means protector, which again ties in well with his actions against the witch, but it also ties into shakespeare’s king lear. in king lear, edmund is the bastard son of the duke of glouchester, who betrays his entire family to gain power. sound familiar? yeah, i thought so too. shakespeare’s edmund is never redeemed, however, but it is a direct parallel to narnia’s edmund.
- lucy means light, and it’s pretty obvious that she’s the light of her family, illuminating the path to aslan.
- susan, however, means lily and it’s pretty hard to figure out why that’s so important. like yeah, lilies are typically used at funerals (which, um, pretty dark bit of foreshadowing there, mr. lewis) but like?? compared to the others, that doesn’t seem deep enough. and that’s when you realise- at the end of vodt, what does the dawn treader have to sail past to get to aslan’s country? a sea. of. hecking. lilies.
- and so the flower that susan is named for is the ones that grow on the path to aslan’s country, which is a pretty strong hint about her eventually returning to aslan’s country.
- also, if you look at the points of the compass, aslan’s country (and therefore the sea of lilies) are in the east. it’s implied that susan beginning to forget narnia started when she went to america (heading west). this is really paying a lot of attention to direction, which brings me to my next point…
direction, and points of the compass! credit for this goes partly to @thoughtfox72 (because of the above point) but mostly to @elecktrum , from the most noble order of the table from the sword and shield, jewel and song series.
- so as was stated above, susan’s journey away from aslan’s starts with her going west, but the flowers that she’s named for are in the east, near aslan’s country, thus signifying that she will probably return.
- as well as that, aslan gives edmund and peter the west and north (“to the great western woods, king edmund the just” and “and to the clear northern sky, i give you king peter the magnificent”), respectively, while susan and lucy receive the south and east (“to the radiant southern sun, queen susan the gentle” and “to the glistening eastern sea, i give you queen lucy the valiant”).
- edmund and peter have the directions of their enemies (to the north are the wild lands of the north, where the giants live, and to the west are the western wilds and telmar).
- susan and lucy get narnia’s “allies” and protection (i put allies in quotation marks as calormen isn’t really an ally, but it isn’t quite an enemy either)- archenland, calormen and the eastern sea.
- this highlights that the brothers are the ones who protect, and the sisters gather allies and friends (a teensy bit sexist, don’t you think?).
there’s also a bit of character analysis!
i’ll start with Peter (credit for this goes to @thoughtfox72 ) (post found here)
- so like loads of people have said that peter is boring, because he doesn’t have complexity, and the heart of this boils down to the fact that c.s. lewis keeps us at a distance from peter. we don’t get to see what he thinks or feels, whereas we do with the younger siblings.
- also, and this is connected to the point above, peter seemingly rushes into things without any warning (e.g. the duel with miraz, pc book canon). but honestly, it’s not that he rushes into things, it’s that we don’t see his reasons for doing it. an example of this is in the prince caspian book- peter is the only one to realise that they’re in cair paravel and he actually numbers his goddamn reasons, like it’s a slideshow or something. this, of course, tells us that he’s been thinking about it for a while, but just hasn’t chosen to share it. peter keeps things close to his chest.
- peter doesn’t share things that much- this even shows in his title. valiant, gentle- heck, even just are quite descriptive and specific. magnificent, on the other hand is like “??? what does it mean?" this is done on purpose, as it’s an effective way to maintain awe. he’ll always meet an individual’s sense of what a great king should be because he’s left to the imagination. “High King Peter the Magnificent is more an idea than a person, like King Arthur.”
- but peter is a person. he’s a good king, but still a person. examples: when they have to vote on which way to go (book pc), he doesn’t want to vote until trumpkin says that it’s his duty. basically the first thing he says to caspian (again, book) is “i haven’t come to take your place, you know, but to put you in it”. though he’s the one in charge, it’s his duty, not something he seeks.
- this is also shown during acts of violence. think about it- most of peter’s most famous acts (save the last battle) are to do with violence- killing the wolf, fighting the witch, duelling with miraz. this all emotionally affects him- he cries after killing maugrim, it’s shown that he’s pale and drawn after fighting the witch... i could go on. although he’s good at this stuff, he doesn’t like it- it’s not easy for him. this ties in well with the whole series’ idea of kingship- “For this is what it means to be a king: to be first in every desperate attack, and last in every desperate retreat.”- and c.s. lewis knew this. lewis had fought in the war and knew how bad it got, but he had peter do it anyway, because he’s the high king, and the hardest tasks fall to him. this, matched with peter liking to keep things to himself, is a lonely task.
- as well as that, it’s more than likely that peter would’ve served in the war back in england as well- the timelines do match up.
- and peter has a super strong sense of duty and responsibility as well- why, at the end of prince caspian (book. again.), he tells aslan that he was leading them wrong, even though he was being pulled in opposite directions by both his sisters. he’s trying to take everything that’s wrong onto himself, including his siblings’ faults.
- tldr; peter is good at being a king but that doesn’t mean he has to like it. he’s a good warrior and a good person but he’s been given really hard tasks and he’s trying to keep it together. he only looks perfect and boring on the surface because he’s not very open and is kept at a distance from the reader. his job is lonely, because he’s high king and that’s what it means.
okay. peter’s done. hopefully that make sense.
onto the problem of susan (credit for this goes to @ncfan-1 ) (find the original post here)
- to start off, here’s a reference:
“Sir,” said Tirian, when he had greeted all these. “If I have read the chronicles aright, there should be another. Has not your Majesty two sisters? Where is Queen Susan?”
“My sister Susan,” answered Peter shortly and gravely, “is no longer a friend of Narnia.”
“Yes,” said Eustace, “and whenever you’ve tried to get her to come and talk about Narnia or do anything about Narnia, she says ‘What wonderful memories you have! Fancy you still thinking about all those funny games we used to play when we were children.’ ”
“Oh Susan!” said Jill. “She’s interested in nothing nowadays except nylons and lipstick and invitations. She always was a jolly sight too keen on being grow-up.”
“Grown-up, indeed,” said the Lady Polly. “I wish she would grow up. She wasted all her school time wanting to be the age she is now, and she’ll waste all the rest of her life trying to stay that age. Her whole idea is to race on to the silliest time of one’s life as quick as she can and then stop there as long as she can.”
“Well, don’t let’s talk about that now,” said Peter. “Look! Here are lovely fruit trees. Let us taste them.”
–The Last Battle, page 135
- please notice who speaks. tirian asks, peter gives a very tense, very abbreviated explanation (which probably means he doesn’t intend to take it further than that). however, eustace, polly and jill jump in and defame her to tirian, despite the fact that what she’s been doing on earth is very clearly none of their business. lucy, edmund and digory don’t speak at all.
- i’d like to point out that the four people who knew her best contributed nothing to her defamation, and that three of them are pointedly silent.
- now, onto the three that did talk.
- how well did they know susan? there’s no canon evidence (book, movie, or otherwise) that any of them interacted with her.
- eustace was susan’s cousin, yes, but up until vodt she thought he was an annoying brat and we only know that he made friends with edmund and lucy- it’s not sure if he made friends with the rest of the pevensies as well.
- polly was digory’s friend, but we don’t know when she was introduced to the pevensies- if it was before susan “forgot” narnia, or after. it was possibly and probably after, given that there was no mention of her at all pre-prince caspian (save the magician’s nephew, but that’s not the point)
- and we know for a fact that jill and eustace didn’t meet until a few years after pc. we don’t even know if susan and jill ever met, or if jill just knew of her.
- so there are a few questions raised. how well did eustace, polly and jill know susan? were any of them even close to her? how reliable a judge are they?
- well, eustace, jill and polly are shown to be the kind of people who, when they know that susan has received the new that they’re dead and is being asked to identify their bodies, instead of expressing sympathy for her (she has to bury them, bury them, and they can’t even express sympathy? talk about heartless), they just talk about how silly and vain she is- so no, they’re probably not the best judges of susan pevensie.
- what this tells us is that none of the three were really interested in knowing susan. none of them really wanted to get to know her side of the story. if they treat her like that when she isn’t even around to defend herself, imagine what they were like to her in person! small wonder that susan pevensie didn’t confide in them.
- let’s look at the other four, the four who knew her best. her siblings and digory, who would have known her better. while none of them express sympathy for her (seriously, guys? not good), none of them gossip about her either. as mentioned above, peter gives a short explanation that is obviously meant to wrap it up and also cuts off the three gossips. also mentioned above is that the other three who knew her best say nothing. absolutely nothing.
- that might suggest they agree with the others, or, perhaps more likely, that there was a lot more going on with susan that eustace, polly and jill didn’t know about.
- there’s a continuation of this, as well. everything pre-the last battle suggests that when aslan sent them back to earth for good, he wanted them to live their lives there. we’re not completely sure what aslan said to susan and peter at the end of prince caspian, but it’s probably somewhat similar to what he said to edmund and lucy (vodt):
“Dearest, said Aslan very gently, “you and your brother will never come back to Narnia.”
“Oh, Aslan!” said Edmund and Lucy both together in despairing voices.
“You are too old, children,” said Aslan, “and you must begin to come close to your own world now.”
“It isn’t Narnia, you know,” sobbed Lucy. “It’s you. We shan’t meet you there. And how can we live, never meeting you?”
“But you shall meet me, dear one,” said Aslan.
“Are—are you there too, Sir?” said Edmund.
“I am,” said Aslan. “But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.”
–Voyage of the Dawn Treader, pages 215-216
- everyone who was brought to narnia, and then sent back, had a super specific purpose. aslan wanted them to live on earth, and find meaning in their lives there. he wanted them to look for him there.
- we don’t know if susan tried to look for aslan on earth. we only have eustace, jill and polly’s word for that, and as stated above, they are unreliable.
- susan did live on earth, and she tried to make a life for herself, and she made it her home and “[came] close” to it. she probably missed narnia, despite what she said to the three gossips. but she didn’t spend her life pining after something she could never have.
- aslan told the others to live lives in their own world, and to look for him there. and what did they do? spent the rest of there lives wanting nothing more but to go back to narnia.
- aslan told them to look for him on earth, and they didn’t do that. their eyes were focused on another world.
- now aslan was responsible for pulling them back to narnia one last time, but it probably wasn’t meant as a reward. they were pulled back to narnia because they failed. they were brought back because aslan realised that they were never going to do what he wanted them to do, they were never going to look for him there, and so he just “bit the bullet and gave them what they wanted”.
- in the end, it looks less like susan deserted narnia, and more like she was the only one of them who did what aslan wanted her to do.
and edmund! credit goes to @softlyblues , from weeds spring high, and @quecksilvereyes , from Putting the Gentle Queen Back Into Her Own Narrative, A Suggestion In Ten Parts
- this analysis is directed at the viewpoint that “edmund is a traitor and betrayed them all for sweets”, and while that is true (to a certain extent), there are some certain points made (below)
“I’m not a very good person,” Edmund says, looking up at the clouds.
(He’s thirteen at this point.)
“You’re thirteen,” Susan says sensibly. Sensible Susan with her sensible shoes.
Edmund does that snotty breath that young boys are often wont to do when they think they might cry, breathing a whole cloud of stuff in through his nose. “Father Christmas didn’t give me a gift,” he says, all wet and damp. “You got two. Luce got - you know. Peter got Rhindon. I got to be Edmund the Betrayer.”
“You were eleven,” Susan says. Sensibly.
Her brother looks to the sky and she can see how shiny his eyes are. His cheeks have freckled in the summer. “I’m not anymore and I don’t feel any different to how I did then. What if I’m not any better? What if we go back and I do the same thing again?”
But privately, Susan thinks there isn’t much wrong with being cold and trusting a woman who says she will warm you up, who offers you treats to eat and drink and makes sure your fingers won’t freeze of frostbite. Susan thinks there isn’t much wrong with being eleven and upset that you’ve been sent away from your home, away from your parents. Not much wrong with being eleven and wondering if you’ll still have a house left to come back to.
Aslan used to be someone you couldn’t help but disappoint.

and
VII. Perhaps then, finally, I can look at the lion and tell it what I think of its inaction in the face of genocide, its inaction in the face of its people starving and dying away. Maybe then I can tell it that a nine year old boy who misses his parents like the food he’s starving for, who hasn’t had sweets in a year didn’t deserve to be called a traitor because he was upset and hurt and a Witch spelled him.
–Putting the Gentle Queen Back Into Her Own Narrative, A Suggestion In Ten Parts, by Quecksilver_Eyes on ao3
- i’m not sure i even have to say much after those two excerpts, but i will say this
-imagine this. you’re lonely. you’re tired. you’ve been sent away from your parents, and you miss them you miss them you miss them. you’re surviving on war rations. you’re criticized by your siblings. when you enter this new world, you’re all alone. you’re cold. your sister, who went in with you, is gone. you’ve been left alone. again.
- and then, a woman. a kind, gentle, beautiful woman. she gives you food to eat and a warm drink. you’re warm. finally. you haven’t had anything this nice to eat since before the war. you barely remember that.
- in the end, it all comes down to this: you’re cold and hungry and tired and you miss your parents so much it hurts and there’s a kind woman who offers you food and drink and warmth and love, and so of course you accept, because what else would you do?
on numbers (credit to @nothinggold13 ) (post found here):
- in the bible, the number 7 means completion. this has direct parallels in the bible and narnia: 7 churches, 7 lampstands (bible) and in narnia, 7 books (although out of world rather than in-world) and the 7 friends of narnia. and so 7 is completion.
- but that leads you to think- what about susan?
- with susan, the 7 friends of narnia would have become 8.
- and do you know what the number 8 means in the bible? do you?
- new beginnings. resurrection. regeneration. new life.
- susan is the 8th. there is a hope and a plan for her.
- “Yes, the Seven stand in completion, but after the end, God makes all things new.”
that's all, folks! will update if i spot any more analysis!

Letting Go
Susan was the first. Then Peter. Then Edmund. Lucy held on the longest, but at some point, you have to grow up.
Written for Writer's Month Day 10: Dark AU.
Note: I do not own The Chronicles of Narnia.
Read it on Ao3.
Susan was the first to leave Narnia behind.  She was always quiet when the other siblings discussed the adventures and lessons they’d had.  Peter thought she might resent that their younger siblings got a third trip while she was expected to stay behind and grow up.  Edmund suspected she was frustrated at returning to being a child after living as a queen with the power to protect and make changes to an entire country.  Lucy believed she had loved Narnia and its people too much, and the loss was something she’d never come to terms with.
The others tried to tactfully bring it up a few times, but Susan always dismissed them.
“It was a fun game when we were younger, but at some point you need to stop playing pretend and face the reality in front of you.”  She frowned.  “Magical lions and fauns and dwarves don’t pay the bills or solve the world’s problems.  Our lives aren’t a fairy tale.  They never have been.  I think it’s time you stop pretending that they were.”
They decided not to mention Narnia around her after that.  She continued believing she was fine and happy, and maybe she was, but Lucy always felt sad when she saw glimpses of Queen Susan the Gentle and had to hold her tongue.
-----
Peter was the next to forget.  He and Susan had always been close and visited each other regularly.  Perhaps he had gotten tired of tiptoeing around her and thought Narnia was an easier sacrifice than time with his sister.  Edmund suspected he hadn’t quite grasped the “know me in this world” lesson from his final trip, and Lucy worried his stubbornness outweighed his ability to see the truth.
“Susan’s right,” Peter explained, “it’s time to put our childish games behind us.  Honestly, I’m a bit ashamed it took me so long.  I don’t regret it, though.  It was a brilliant game.”
For a while, they tried to convince him of the truth.  He was often good-natured about it, recalling memories and musing over their decisions as sovereigns, but he was always distant.
“We had amazing imaginations, didn’t we?  I don’t think any of our school chums created entire countries and contemplated international relations during their holidays.”
Edmund and Lucy would agree, but they could tell their elder brother had convinced himself it was all a game.  Eventually they found it easier not to mention Narnia at all rather than listen to Peter and Susan treat it so trivially.
-----
Edmund took much longer to forget.  Lucy wondered if it was because he got to go a third time, but he had always been apt to trust her after their time with Professor Kirke.  Plus Eustace shared some of their memories, and he and Edmund got along incredibly well.  But eventually he drew his sister aside and told her he was done.
“I’m sorry Lucy, but I don’t think I can pretend like this anymore.”  His eyes were dark and sad.  “I’ve been thinking about it a lot and talking with Peter and Susan.  We’re worried.  That time we were with the professor was rather traumatic, and we were young.  We used Narnia as a coping mechanism, but we have to work through the trauma at some point to heal and move on.  I’ve been seeing a therapist, and if you’d like, I can give you some recommendations.”
“But what about the second time, with Caspian?  Or the Dawn Treader with Eustace?” she asked.  It had hurt when Susan and Peter forgot, but Edmund had been a steady and sure presence by her side. How could he lose Narnia, too?
“The war had just ended, we were transitioning back to school, and we were travelling, which is always stressful.  And then next summer we were forced to endure our relatives while the other two were adventuring in America.  Remember how beastly Eustace used to be?”
“So you think we made up Mr. Tumnus?  The White Witch?  Caspain and Reepicheep?”
“It’s not impossible.  Some children have been known to hold on to their imaginary friends into early adulthood.”
“And Aslan?” Lucy asked, heart breaking.  Her brother had the decency to smile sadly and squeeze her arm sympathetically.
“If Aslan was as benevolent as we believed, would he have allowed me to betray you all and grapple with that guilt afterwards?  Or let us grow up as kings and queens and then rip that away from us?  Or wait to summon us again until all of our old Narnian friends were dead?  You have to admit, some of that is pretty messed up.  It’s easier to explain as the imaginings of traumatised children than the machinations of a supposedly good all-powerful lion.”
He was doing his best to be kind.  She knew he had probably weighed this over and over for months, maybe years.  Edmund was driven towards the truth, so it was even harder to fathom that he was turning his back on it.  When they parted ways, Lucy had never felt so lonely.
-----
Lucy tried holding on for another two years.  She’d stopped mentioning Narnia to her siblings, and they had the decency not to pester her about it, but it was too painful to be the only one who remembered.  She limited their interactions, though it only made her lonelier.
Sometimes she spoke with Eustace and Professor Kirke, and they introduced her to other people who claimed to know Narnia, but it was harder to find comfort in people she didn’t know.  Edmund had said it would be easy for escapists to alter their remembered fantasies to fit the same or similar mold of another’s in an attempt to feel some connection to them.  Other than Eustace, she didn’t share any actual memories with them, and the only real connections in all of their stories was Aslan.
It was Aslan who kept Lucy believing for so long.  She felt he really could connect all of these people through a magical alternative world where they were capable of incredible things.  She trusted Aslan, even if he wasn’t real.  She’d looked for him in her own world as he’d asked, and she believed she’d found him in church.
Ironically, that was what finally made her turn her back on Narnia.  If she’d found the true Aslan, she no longer needed childhood fairy tales to show her the truth.  Maybe it had just been a way for a young girl to try and make sense of her circumstances.
There was a great sadness when she finally let go.  Lucy would always think of Narnia with fondness and nostalgia, but it was relieving to understand at last what her siblings seemed to have figured out earlier.  Narnia was a game that had helped them through a strangely stressful and magical time of their lives.  Now that she could face the reality of those experiences, she was closer than ever to her siblings.  They were finally on the same page.
-----
Three months after Lucy came to this conclusion, the Pevensie siblings received word of a tragedy.  Their cousin Eustace, Professor Kirke, and a few of their friends whom Lucy had met died tragically in a train crash.  It was a shock to them all.  Edmund and Lucy took their cousin’s death particularly hard.  But they mourned and moved on.  They had jobs to do, bills to pay, and lives to live.
“I wish we could have done more for them,” Susan sighed over dinner a few years later.  They were revisiting childhood memories, and Narnia had come up for the first time in a while.  “They were all convinced that it was more than a game.”
“I talked to Eustace a few times about it,” Edmund admitted.  “He believed Narnia and Aslan were the reason he changed.  He didn’t think he was capable of doing so on his own.”
“Poor Eustace,” Lucy sighed.  “If only he’d believed in himself more.  I should have encouraged him more than I did, made him feel appreciated.”
“And the professor,” Peter agreed.  “He wasn’t altogether there in the head, but he made our time with him jolly good.  I wish I’d talked to him more before the end.”
“Well we still have Mrs. Macready,” Susan chuckled.  The others laughed.
“I don’t think any imaginary fantasyland will let us escape from her!” Peter grinned.
I don’t know if this really counts as a Dark AU, but the idea of all four Pevensies forgetting Narnia makes me really sad, so I’m saying it counts.

NARNIA FANS, CHECK THIS OUT!
Lend me your ears. This looks like a long post. Please bear with, it’s worth it! You guys seemed to like my answer to my friend Charlai’s Narnia question earlier, so I wanted to send this to you.
You want some music that reminds you of Narnia? You want nostalgia and magic and good good feelings that are just pure Narnia? I understand and I want to help.
I don’t know why this does not appear to be public knowledge
I was Georgie Henley’s age when the first film came out, and the women in my family had introduced me to the books long before that (though reading them on my own came at 13). With the film’s release came a soundtrack on CD. It’s called Music Inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. We owned this CD and my three siblings and I would listen to it all day. Just that CD. Let me share it with you.
There are songs about all of the books, not just the second one. Not instrumental movie tracks. Songs. With lyrics. About NARNIA. And all of them are preformed and written by Christian artists who loved the story too. This is 2005, girls and boys. The year of films that were just starting to explore CGI magic and music that was hitting its golden stride. The year of TobyMac and Chris Tomlin and Relient K and Jeremy Camp and Kutless and Jars of Clay and Steven Curtis Chapman. I AIN’T EVEN MENTIONED THE LADIES YET.
Here’s the lineup. Waiting For The World To Fall by Jars of Clay.  This is my personal favorite. It took me a long time to gain a favorite. Ever since I was a kid I loved the sound of it, but as 13 years went by listening to this, I tried to understand what it was about. I’m not confirming anything, but as far as I can tell, it’s about a longing for Narnia, this world Lewis created to tell the truth through fantasy. A longing for Aslan. We want so much to be in that world! But this is the world we’ve been given and put into, and we have Aslan here. Remembering You by Steven Curtis Chapman.  Some of you guys might remember the old, beloved music video that came with this one? This is not hard to explain at all and it reminds me of Aslan’s camp with all the flutes. It’s extremely straightforward in the lyrics and if you’ve read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, you will probably cry. It captures the story and the Pevensies’ relationship with Aslan perfectly. This was the most-played song in my house from 2005 through 2012. I mean, obviously Mr. Chapman loves the story. You can tell. Good job, sir! Open Up Your Eyes by Jeremy Camp. This one is sick. Could be about anything from the Pevensies trusting Aslan and earning their thrones to believing in Narnia and living as like a Narnian as they can. Also, it’s a great Christian song regardless by Jeremy Camp, whose writing is always awesome. Hero by Bethany Dillon. Bethany Dillon is no stranger to great lyrics either, and this song is all about Aslan. Or Jesus. Same thing. When she was approached to do a song inspired by Narnia, this is what she came up with. It will make you cry. When I was a kid, I assumed each song was from the perspective of a character (maybe they are in a few cases?) and I always thought this one was Susan’s song. But there’s no reason really to think that. Just a tidbit you didn’t need to know about me! Lion by Rebecca St. James. Again, not hard to describe. All about Aslan, definitely from Lucy’s perspective. Captures good and terrible at the same time. Also reminds me of the quote from The Last Battle: “We are all between the paws of the true Aslan.” New World by TobyMac. When I was a kid, Toby was all the rage. Big Christian rappers hadn’t shown up yet. This is not a rap song--but it’s definitely a more hardcore interpretation! It’s not for everyone, but it is definitely Narnian. The lyrics are pretty darn cool and the bridge ‘I never dreamed it but I see that he’s alive again/Shaking his mane, he’s just the same as I remember him/The spell is weakening with every breath he’s breathing/And when he roars you gotta know that he’s our King again’ was my favorite thing to hear growing up. I also loved the second verse. I Will Believe by Nicole Nordeman. The prettiest, most Pevensie song on the album. From Lucy’s POV, talking of the world in the wardrobe and her siblings and what the Pevensies mean to Narnia. It’s perfect.  Turkish Delight by David Crowder Band. This is a very dancey song from Edmund’s POV (duh) and though some might think it’s too comedic and lively for a song about Edmund’s actions in the second book, I think it’s lots of fun and sums up how ridiculous and sucky it is that Ed did what he did. But it’s okay in the end, as we all know! More Than It Seems by Kutless. This is in my top 3 on the album. It’s a Peter Pevensie song without question, and it’s as Narnian as they come in terms of message. You’re the One by Chris Tomlin. This one is for The Magician’s Nephew--no doubt--and Digory Kirke. Even the first line references the creation of Narnia by Aslan, and how it felt seeing it all and meeting him for the first time.  And of course, there are others that have been written. In Like A Lion by Relient K. This was written when the band was approached to write a song for the movie, but it never made it onto the album! So Relient K released it on a later Christmas selection. It’s based on Mr. Tumnus’ declaring to Lucy that Narnia is trapped in an eternal winter--always winter, never Christmas. But there’s the hope the Pevensies and Aslan bring, and that’s the point of the song! The Call by Regina Spektor. You know this one. It’s from Prince Caspian and it’s sad. I don’t need to say anything else. This Is Home by Switchfoot. Ever since I first heard this song when the second film came out, John Foreman’s voice has sounded like Narnia to me. I was 12. That’s how it works. And I love it! There’s A Place For Us by Carrie Underwood. You know this one too! From The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader. When the film came out, I loved this song, but now I really don’t like the chorus. Just something about the pride of it all--the Pevensies were only kings and queens because Aslan called them to be. Anyway! It’s pretty and I do enjoy the rest of it. Hope you do too, if you haven’t heard it! The Ascension by Phil Wickham. This song was inspired by the last few chapters of The Last Battle--further up and further in! It’s all about Heaven, obviously. It makes me excited listening to it and I often play it while re-reading those chapters. The Last Battle is my favorite book in the series, and who knows? When the film is made, this song may make it onto the album. Thanks, Phil Wickham!
There you have it. Happy listening, Narnia fans! Let me know which one you like best. Or don’t? Sometimes people don’t even read these things.

Some time ago I saw a post on tumblr that basically said that all Lewis said was bad about the Scrubbs was actually good, and that that was somehow a sign of how bad an influence Christianity was on him. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've seen several posts or comments of that sort, although not as clearly phrased. I first intended to respond to it, but then didn't, because I just wasn't in the mood for arguing with a stranger on the internet. However, my current re-read of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader brought the matter up again. First things first, I'd like to say, that I love Lewis' balance of showing and telling – he's using quite a lot of very personal, intimate, chatting language, which I love, yet he also sticks to describing things as they are instead of bringing in personal judgement when it comes to his characters. This is an aspect of his writing I very much appreciate, as I don't really believe in the strict matter of “show don't tell” but I also think that merely saying “this is good” and “this is bad” is fairly lazy writing. The most important thing here is: Lewis never actually said the Scrubbs were bad or that any of their opinions were bad. He didn't even say if all of Eustace's own beliefs were in line with his parents' but I'll get to that a bit later. He only ever described who they were and what they were like, giving examples that were merely (in-universe) facts. He didn't say that was right or wrong, and he didn't said that any of that mattered in regards to Eustace's personality. That's a really important aspect for me, because the conclusion that there's anything bad about the Scrubbs is merely one the reader draws – and of course, is, to a degree, supposed to draw. Not even the Pevensies talk badly about Eustace's parents. Only about him. And Lewis, he hardly even said anything decidedly bad about Eustace himself. But now for the actual matter. The real matter is not that the Scrubbs are modern. The matter is that their modernity – or what we see of it – is empty. It's quite like Eustace's schoolwork – he had no interest in any subject, but he cared very much about his marks. The Scrubbs were vegetarians. Little vegetarian me, when first reading the book as a child, was almost offended by the way it presented. Almost. Because very soon this became clear: Eustace hated animals. It's difficult to say if his parents shared his feelings, but we have good reason to assume that. Eustace didn't only want to keep animals as far away from himself as possible, he was also very eager to do them harm. The Scrubb idea of vegetarianism was very obviously a mixture of a healthy lifestyle and supposedly modern views, without actual personal care about the matter. Alberta was a “feminist” - at least that's what that one poster said, and I think I've read that more than once. Except we can't know for sure. Lewis never called her such a thing – or anything similar for that matter, and he, at least, used the words “vegetarian” and “teetotaller” and even mentioned their underwear, so I dare to say he'd would have dared to use such a term – and we didn't get any real evidence. We did hear Eustace say that Alberta told him that treating girls gallantly would actually be lowering to them. So far so good – but Alberta didn't seem to think so at home. Giving a girl – and a Queen, even more! – a cabin by herself in a ship full of men is one thing, separating her from her own brother is another. Why did Lucy get a room for herself when she was at the Scrubbs house, and why did they let their precious little Eustace share a room with that Pevensie boy, if it wasn't to separate the girl? Lucy and Edmund could easily have shared a room, even a bed. They were used to sleeping together, as shown just one book before. It seems that Eustace's complain wasn't so much about Caspian being sexist, and much more a complaint about himself not treated as he wished to. His “feminist” idea was just a way of excusing this to himself. In fact, he did seem to look down on Lucy, and not take her seriously. The way he talked was the way a child might talk about another child younger than themselves – except Lucy is older than Eustace, and stronger. What else could make him look down on her in a way he didn't on Edmund, despite despising him just as much? Certainly not “feminism”. Also, the Scrubbs are pacifists. That's also really interesting – Eustace said he was one when Reepicheep asked to fight him. Interestingly enough, Eustace did believe in attacking someone smaller than him – and an animal, mind you! – from behind. Yes, much of a pacifist, that's true. Now, for the corporeal punishment. Apparently, that was one of Lewis' complaints about the Scrubbs, too? Funnily, I've seen people who – like me!!! – oppose any sort of corporeal punishment, and by those who approve of it, and misuse this mention in order to advocate for it. And yet, Lewis never said that. He just plainly stated that 1. Eustace's school didn't use any corporeal punishment, 2. that this was to be expected from his parents, and 3. that that was why Eustace didn't know what being hit was like. It was just a plain explanation, and nothing more! In fact, he was fairly sympathetic with Eustace throughout the entire scene, without judging him, even though he behaved dreadfully. But here's actually quite some irony here, as Eustace's school – as shown in The Silver Chair – is actually based on Lewis' own dreadful experiences in boarding school. He had to suffer a lot from corporeal punishment, and was, logically, against it. Yet he also suffered from bullying and abuse from other students, which is another point right here: The Scrubbs sent their son to a school that didn't have any sort of punishment done by the teachers to the students, but that had teachers and a principal who greatly encouraged their students to bully and abuse each others! That aside, I am also quite sure that Lewis never meant to say that not drinking or smoking would make people evil, but I've actually seen people complain about exactly this.
(Please note: This is a collection of my thoughts during the re-read. I love comments, but I am still not in the mood for arguing!)

***The Pevensies were back. That was the first thing you heard when the Dawn Treader docked back in the town. Immediately you felt lost and adrift. If the Pevensies were back, did that mean that Susan was back as well? You had liked the Queen well enough, but you knew Caspian felt something for her and it was hard enough competing with her when she wasn’t there. When Caspian came back up, he found you immediately. He was already talking a mile a minute about the voyage, conquering great evil and finding the lords, but you were left quiet and unsure. The more he talked, the more you realized that only Lucy and Edmund had come through this time. Well, and a boy named Eustace who Caspian talked about fondly. He did mention his regret that Susan wasn’t able to come back and you turned away from him. There it was, the never-ending feeling that you would never be enough.“What is it?” His hand reached out to wrap around your wrist. “Y/N?”“It doesn’t matter, does it? Nothing will ever change how you feel for Susan, even if she never comes back. I’m in love with you and it sucks because every time I think that maybe we can be something, you remind me of your feelings for Susan. Every day you were gone, I wished for you to come back to me but the first words out of your mouth are about Susan once more.” You had ranted, barely pausing for breath, but then you ran out of steam. “You broke my heart.”Caspian’s eyes had grown wider throughout your rant but it was at that point that he stepped forward. His hands came to gently rest on your shoulders. You wanted to turn away, wanted to avoid his eyes after your confession, but you met his eyes with all the strength you possessed. “I didn’t realize that you felt that way about me. I thought that you,” he began, trailing off after a few moments. Then he stood up straighter and smiled. “I thought that perhaps my feelings would be too much for you so I brought up Susan so that you wouldn’t think that I loved you as well. My greatest fear is losing you so I did what I thought necessary to keep you in my life.”Could it be? His face told you that he was speaking the truth. You laughed and moved into his hold, pressing your forehead against his shoulder for a moment.“Have we both been so blind?”“It seems so,” Caspian said with a laugh as he wrapped his arms around you. This time he wasn’t going to let you go.

Little things from VOTDT movie
(I’m updating as I go along)
-Will Poulter is hilarious as Eustace, I love how he just kind of screetches and thrashes about when he gets on board the ship
-Caspian: “high king and queen of Narnia!”
Lucy: *waves adorably*
-When Reep says “we have nothing if not belief” when Lucy asks if he believes “Aslan’s Country” exists, Lucy gets really serious and quiet. She then asks if he really thinks one could sail there. It’s clear she wants to go there very, very badly.
-Lucy, when Eustace is being a brat: “Are you feeling better?”
-Caspian is adorably amused by Eustace and not annoyed
-“And you’re certain he’s related by blood?” -Caspian, seeing Eustace trip trying to get out of a rowboat, suggesting he knows what naturals Ed and Lu are at adventuring and how terrible Eustace appears to be 😂
-Lucy carrying an actual sword and not just her dagger
-Eustace: “Ah, Yes. Good idea, cousin. Very, uh... logical.” There’s that word “logical” again, from Eustace and not Susan this time...
-goodness gracious Ben Barnes ammiright
-Lucy crying when Gael runs after her mom
-Edmund: “we have to find Lucy, before it’s too late” *doesnt mention Eustace*
-Reep: “and... general... nuisancery.”
-“Period, exclamation mark.”
-I never realized Eustace was fighting Reep with a kitchen knife 😂
-Arabella Morton is a precious smol.
-Gael: “Your Majesty.”
Lucy: “Call me Lucy.”
-The Dufflepuds considered taking Gael to help them instead of Lucy, and chose Lucy because she reads. I wonder what she was reading? Also I love that Lucy, even in Narnia, choose to bring a book when going ashore for adventuring
-Lucy, realizing the Dufflepuds just need help because they can’t read: “Why didn’t you just say so?”
-Lucy’s face when she sees snow
-“Make me she, who’d I agree, holds more beauty than me.” Me, wishing I was Georgie Henley
-Aslan’s voice scolding Lucy 😭
-Lucy, hearing Aslan scolding her and knowing that Aslan knows everything: *hides spell book page under jacket*
-Dufflepuds.
-Dufflepud, after the magician throws pocket lint at them as a “spell”: “We’ll be twice as invisible as before!!”
-magician, telling them about temptation: *looks pointedly at Lucy* *Lucy looks down guiltily* “Be strong.”
-there’s a shot of a carved OWL FACE on the ship and then goes through the window to show Eustace.........
-Edmund, sarcastically: “Or get eaten by a sea serpent!” Heh heh hehhhh
-how is Lucy’s hair that curly from just being in a ponytail is it the humidity or something
-Gael looks so much like Lucy I feel all the nostalgia
-Aslan calls Lucy “child” 💜💜💜
-Aslan growls in the fireplace when Lucy throws the page in just like he did at Tumnus’ house!!!!!!!!
-leather pillows in the hammocks? How is that comfortable??
-this happened in the book too but I love that Caspian gave Lucy his bedroom and instead slept with the crew
-Eustace stayed in his England clothes the whole time 😂😂😂 the symbolism...
-“Ramandoo-doo”
-Reep comforting Dragon!Eustace :)
-Dragon!Eustace’s feet twitch in his sleep
-the symbolism of the Dawn Treader looking like a dragon...
-awww Caspian fell so hard in love at first sight awww awww
-get you someone who looks at you the way Caspian looks at Ramandu’s daughter
-Caspian: “every soul who stands before me has earned their place as a crew member on the Dawn Treader” (or something like that) including Gael who is watching :)
-“For Narnia!!!!!!!” (I mean, I wish there was a “AND FOR ASLAN” but it’s still a great moment)
-Edmund’s torch is ridiculously bright.... it’s clearly enhanced by Narnian magic, right?
-When Aslan changes Eustace back, Eustace has Narnian clothes :)
-Aslan calls Caspian “my son.” 💜
-Does... does Caspian have tears in his eyes when he almost goes through the wave and then decided against it????
-Aslan: “children?”
Lucy: *eyes get bigger, smiles hugely*
Edmund: “I think it’s time we went home actually, Lu.”
Lucy: *turns to Edmund with an “Edmund you totally ruined the moment” look*
-I’m not crying
-I’m not
-“that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.”
-when the waves wash over them, the place where Aslan was standing becomes the sun
-I’m not crying I swear
-okay I am

Another Name
A little fic about Lucy finding Aslan in our world. (Plus a little opening headcanon which is maybe not quite as relevant to the story as I would’ve liked it to be.)
Lucy was 10.
She'd been growing her hair out for two years, ever since they got back the first time. She wanted it long, like it had been in Narnia. She wanted to be able to braid it again, and fiddle with the ends when she was nervous. She missed the feeling of tying it back to get it out of her face, and she missed having Susan style it for formal occasions.
But when she and Edmund returned from their voyage on the Dawn Treader - when they returned for the last time - she cut it. She wouldn't be going back to Narnia. And, oh, she knew she'd probably grow it out again, but for the moment she needed to separate who she was then from who she would be now. She needed - was supposed to - start something new. So, Lucy Pevensie asked her mother to cut the golden hair she had so lovingly grown for the last two years, and willed herself to start over.
Susan still made an effort to style it for her, tying a ribbon to the side and insisting it looked just as beautiful. Lucy was grateful, of course. But she missed her long hair, and she missed Narnia, though she missed neither as much as she missed Aslan.
It was Easter when it all came together.
The Pevensies had always, technically, been a Christian family, but they'd never put that much time (or depth) into it. Surely there was a God, they thought, but they'd never put much effort into a personal relationship with him. They attended church on the big days, such as Easter and Christmas, and they hadn't considered the need for anything more.
Maybe that was part of the reason Lucy missed it for so long. She couldn't understand the value in her religion, because her parents inadvertently didn't teach it to her. Aslan was tangible. God was distant. And, oh, her parents' didn't mean for it to happen, but they didn't seem to understand it themselves.
Or maybe it was because up until then, she'd only been concerned about finding Aslan in Narnia, and had never considered that she should find him in England, too. That was a new command. But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. Now; now Lucy was searching everywhere.
So there was something different about that Easter Sunday.
The Pastor spoke first of Good Friday, which had just passed. He reminded the congregation of how Jesus has been arrested, but hadn't fought back. He talked about how the soldiers mocked him. He mentioned the disciples and family who watched as he died. It was excruciating, and tragic, and confusing. It was everything.
Something happened inside Lucy. One second she was sitting restlessly, the way a ten-year-old usually does during the sermon, and the next she was hooked. Her heart rose in her chest, and she held her breath. She knew what happened next. In her head she did, anyways. But her heart was on the edge of its seat, as was Lucy herself.
On the third day, a group of women went to the tomb, and found his body gone. The stone was rolled away, and it was impossible. They might have left the body alone. Who's done it? What does it mean?
"They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead." (John 20:9) Though the Witch knew the Deep Magic, there is a magic deeper still which she did no know.
Lucy's hands scrambled for the extra bible placed in the holder in the back of the pew in front of her, and she turned furiously to the chapter the Pastor was reading. The curls her mother had done for her the night before bounced as her head flew back and forth, following her fingers as she read.
This man, this Jesus, died on a cross, and the curtain in the temple split. ...the table would crack...
Jesus didn't fight back. ...Lucy and Susan held their breaths waiting for Aslan's roar and his spring upon his enemies. But it never came... He went willingly to his death. And Jesus, oh, he was given a crown of thorns; a scoffer's crown. ...the shorn face of Aslan looked to her braver, and more beautiful, and more patient than ever... He had died. He had risen.
But why? That was what Lucy needed to know. Why had this man died? She had known this story. She had thought she did. But all of a sudden it was brand new to her, and she was looking for the final piece of a puzzle she'd never considered solving.
It required almost more attention than she was able to give, and quite a bit of flipping back and forth, but there it was: "For God so loved the world that he sent his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." (John 3:16-17)
To save the world... He was a Saviour. No, the Saviour. He'd died to save the world, ...killed in a traitor's stead.
Lucy's gaze shifted violently towards Edmund, her golden hair rather like a mane itself. He didn't look the way she did, with her fierce attentiveness and excitement, but it was clear that something was working in him, too. He was piecing together the clues, like the detectives in his books, but he was keeping quiet. He followed along silently, taking it all in. Lucy grabbed his hand, and he met her gaze.
Aslan, she mouthed.
I know.
You, she added.
Edmund nodded again and squeezed her hand.
It all felt so clear, and Lucy wondered how she'd never realized it before. She must have heard this story a hundred times, and yet she'd missed it all this time. Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for this world's sins; to redeem them. Aslan died to pay Edmund's price. But their story wasn't over, because they both rose again, conquering death and darkness. The veil was torn, and a way was made.
It was the same story. It was the same person. Lucy was filled with reverence; a sense of holiness she'd missed, even in Narnia. After all, Aslan hadn't just died for Edmund. He died for every one of them, and he'd died twice.
As soon as the service ended, Lucy pulled her siblings aside and told them what she'd discovered. Edmund was already on the same page, of course, and Peter listened intently. Only Susan appeared uninterested , though the rest were too excited to acknowledge her bad attitude.
"But it's just like what happened in Narnia! Like when Aslan died for Edmund, Jesus did the same thing for us!" Lucy spoke fervently.
"That's not all, Lu," Edmund interrupted. (He had a different look on his face; the kind of look he'd worn as King in Narnia. It was wiser; older.) "Of course Aslan died for me - for what I did. I mean, I thank him every day. But no, he didn't just die for me, even in Narnia. Don't you remember what the Witch had said? 'Every traitor belongs to me.' And before that, when she planned to kill me, she said, 'I would've liked to have done it on the Stone Table. That's the proper place. That's where it's always been done.'"
They were speaking in hushed voices in the church yard, quiet, yet passionate, knowing very well that anyone who overheard them would think them mad. Even so, only Susan seemed bothered by the idea. The other two listened intently to what Edmund said, blocking the rest of the world out as they focused on the matter at hand.
"What are you getting at, Ed?" Peter asked.
"It's just this. When Aslan died, he took my place. Someone had to die, you see, or Narnia would have perished. That's what the Deep Magic said. But remember that the Stone Table cracked. The Witch said that the Table was where she killed traitors before, and that if she didn't kill them, the world would end. It was all tied together. So to defeat the Witch, and I mean really defeat her, there would have to be no more cause to kill traitors... sorry, this may be getting messed up in my head. I can't speak it the way I would like to." All the same, even as he apologized, everyone could hear the wisdom in his voice. They figured it must have always been there, though they still remembered a time when he wasn't very wise at all. He hadn't been very smart about it when he first came into Narnia, but Aslan had changed him. Or perhaps he simply brought some of those quieter virtues to the surface, as he had for all of them.
"I think I see now what you mean," Peter nodded.
"I don't," Lucy frowned.
Susan muttered, "I don't either, and I don't see why it matters at all," but no one was really paying any attention to her.
Edmund continued. "When Aslan died, the Stone Table cracked, and there wasn't any use for it anymore. The curse was over. The Deep Magic was appeased, and the Deeper Magic had prevailed. Everyone in Narnia was saved because of it."
"Oh! Oh!" Lucy interjected. "I see now! And didn't Jesus take the place of another prisoner? Oh, I can't remember his name! But there was someone else meant to die, and he was set free because of his sacrifice! Like you, Edmund! And because Jesus died instead of this other man, we are all free from the curse, too! Oh, it's all too wonderful!"
"I do believe you two are right," Peter beamed. "I can't think how I didn't see it before!"
"After all this... this desire to go to Narnia..." Edmund mused.
"It must have blinded us," Peter added. "I should have looked harder! All this time..."
"And it was right here!" Lucy exclaimed!
After that day, the family's church habits were different. Lucy, of course, (followed by her brothers,) immediately begged her parents for a new bible; one she could read for herself and learn from, and they were pleased enough to submit. Then she was begging to go to church more often. "There's a service every Sunday, Mum! And we can learn so much more!"
Mr. and Mrs. Pevensie were shocked by the sudden interest. They hadn't really considered the need to attend church often before, but as they began to, they discovered they quite liked it. They grew close with many of the other church members, and the children all made closer friends there as well. And when the kids went away for school, they made sure to attend services as often as they could.
The only one not thoroughly involved in the Pevensies' newfound passion was Susan, but while she was young she had almost no choice but to tag along. She didn't listen with her whole heart open the way her siblings did, and eventually learned not to listen at all. Her siblings tried so hard to get her excited about it, too, but Susan wouldn't give them the chance.
That didn't deter them, though. It was different now. The puzzle pieces floated together, and Peter, Edmund, and Lucy were overjoyed at their newfound faith. All their life in Narnia had been leading them to this, and now they knew it. The same God that created their world had created their world, too. He was their God.
But they had seen him. Touched him. Talked with him. He was more tangible to them than even their parents could realize, and they never stopped thanking him for it. Of course they missed Narnia, but they knew now that they'd been given a chance that thousands of other people never had. God had chosen them, and had walked with them, and had died for them.
They had found Aslan's other name.
