crochet, knitting, sewing... any kind of fiber art given to another person is just so indescribably filled with love. and i think part of that is bc it is a process. the gradual nature of creation. the stitches you create with yarn and your hands is replicated in your heartstrings. every stitch was made with consideration, counted and recounted. by the time the gift is complete it is heavy with love. it says: this is the part of my heart that you reside in, please handle it with care.

I've been quilting for almost 20 years. This week I finally bought a design wall. I could have sat in front of this sucker all day, just moving blocks around. Didn't decide on a final layout, but that's neither here nor there.

Star Pop II - by Emily Dennis of Quilty Love

Second quilt of 2023!

My word for 2023 is "Light" - I want to shine, to glow, to ignite, to sparkle, to illuminate. To lighten up and lighten my load - physically, mentally and emotionally. So I'm collecting images of stars, sunflowers, candles etc to remind me. This would make a cute baby blanket, but for now its going to grace the wall in my living room.

Bought a layer cake of quilt fabrics in a VERY busy pattern set. The idea was to stretch my creative self, because this is WAY out of my comfort zone. But now I have absolutely no idea what to do with it. 🤪

So nice to use up fabrics I already had on hand! Only thing I had to buy was the purple FQ and the flannel for the backing.

Finally finished the top to this quilt - and not a single pop of yellow to be had.

I've never done a seminole border before, so that was interesting. I just wanted to use up every scrap of the blue fabric I had.

The border feels a little too modern for the rest of it (imo), but I love it anyway so who cares.

I think I'm going to splurge and have it professionally quilted.

I bought this blue fabric about 12 years ago at the Dallas Quilt show. It was a set of indigo blues made in South Africa, and I've been hoarding it all this time, because I knew I'd never get more.

I was spending my birthday there with my mom, and it was one of the best memories I had with her in the past few years. She died in 2020 and I finally just decided it was time to use it and remember the good times.

Finally got it quilted!

Stress sewing. I tried to make the Sparkle Plenty by Stephanie Dunphy (the middle) just by sight (patterns not for sale any more) I can't math, so I ended up twice as many half square triangles as I needed. Hence the right and the left.

Gotta say, I may be more in love with the right one than the middle at the moment

Still a WIP, but I've finally started. Will probably add some more white borders with maybe a border of yellow and white half square triangles? IDK.

It's the wrong time to start a new project, but I'm desperate to start one anyway. I've had these indigo fabrics forEVer, and I have very little of them, and I want to make them count, iykwim.

Just me auditioning some other colors to go with. RWB is pretty predictable, but it's a classic for a reason. The yellow could be fun and cheerful, but I'd have to buy more to supplement what I have. I've got plenty of tan and greys if I went in those directions. (But tan is kinda boring and my gray stash may be too modern for the blue indigo. Decisions, decisions.
