My Roman empire is that time this 13 year old girl threw an arrow so hard it went through a man's armor and into his chest 馃檪

CS Lewis is one of the very few old male authors who seems to whole heartedly get the minds of young girls. Like, all of his main female characters are distinct and likable, and they never take a backseat to the male leads in terms of story time or relevance (sometimes even overtaking them!) The best part is you can tell it鈥檚 because he had a genuine love for the children around him like his goddaughter who he wrote the first Narnia book for. If this man were alive today, I can fully see him in a pink crown and jewelry having a tea party with his goddaughter regardless of how any other man at the function scoffed

you guys may THINK your otp is enemies to lovers, but you've never read "they got so used to fighting and making up afterwards that they got married, so as to go on doing so more conveniently," about them, have you?

Thinking about how Cor, the boy who "was used to hard knocks," wound up with a brother who was famous for boxing, "and all their fights ended (if they didn't begin) with Cor getting knocked down." Just the idea that this abused child can go from being cuffed and kicked and bruised to realizing that some blows are affectionate. Some blows are playful. And, most importantly, he's allowed to hit back. Can you imagine the first time they get into it, and he realizes he can hit back? This slave boy finally has a right to defend himself, and he and his brother can fight and throw each other around because at the end of the day they are completely confident in their love for each other. If Cor gives Corin a bloody nose, they're still going to be friend by evening. It makes me emotional to think how for so long he had punishment, and now he gets affection and confidence in his position and a brother who he may fight with, but who will never EVER be genuinely trying to hurt him. I just think there's something important about that, about Cor feeling safe enough to fight with Corin even when he knows he's going to lose, because he knows it's not a punishment. It's not a beat down. It's a good clean honest argument, and both of them are going to walk away from it perfectly safe.

Thoughts on The Chronicles of Narnia
There are plenty of valid criticisms to make about the Chronicles of Narnia. There's the xenophobia, sexism, treatment of Susan, heavy and relentless religious overtones, and the fact that the plots get more and more bonkers throughout the series. The Silver Chair and The Last Battle, in particular, seem more like a description of a trip than an actual narrative. However, there is a criticism which I'd like to address, and that's the lack of humour.
These books are actually pretty funny. In Prince Caspian, the Pevensie kids are transported across time and space and brought to the ruined castle in which they used to live, climb into a magical vault full of incredible treasure... but they also have to worry about their torch running out of batteries. There's plenty of humorous juxtaposition whereby things have enormous power and potential, yet end up being used for incredibly mundane things. In The Magician's Nephew, there's a forest full of pools, and if you jump into a pool you're transported into a different world. Alas, the only beings which live there and can freely explore are, um, guinea pigs. Likewise, an apple (of course) which came from Narnia grew into a tree. It could have all sorts of incredible powers, but when the tree dies, they just turn its wood into a wardrobe and store old coats there. Finally, the first king and queen of Narnia are a random London cabbie and his wife because, well, they were there. Perhaps they're still in Narnia, grumbling about Bolt and taking the long way around.

Got in a fight with my dad and left the house to take a walk. it's very late at night. Was crying and feeling very upset and disappointed and angry with myself and just... broken, and very alone. suddenly a cat came up to me, meowing at me like it was trying to say something to me. It started walking with me, beside me, and suddenly I remembered Shasta spending the night in the desert, all alone. And how a cat suddenly came to be with him. how Aslan came to be with him. And suddenly Shasta wasn't alone.
And then I cried more when the cat rubbed its body against me, because I realized I wasn't alone, really. Aslan was with me too.
