something’s just not right / there’s hunger in my eyes, but you’re not looking into mine / in the morning light / i wake up next to you, but we’re no longer entwined / i want to love you with a ravenous hunger, tear your flesh into mine / you say you like me, but you’d rather that i listen quiet, keep it all inside / i romanticize a lust for blood and the glint of evil in your eyes / any kind of sign, something to tell me that your heart is burning just like mine / rend me to pieces if that’s what it takes to tell me that i taste divine / there’s something wrong but i just can’t quite place it, leave me on the precipice, i’m fine / something awakening and stirring inside me / i’m gearing up, your pretense in decline / i slice my heart up on a platter and find that you don’t even wanna dine / i gave my soul up, you can eat me raw / diced up and vulnerable, i’m yours to try / you’re glancing to the side, bored, and find that you don’t even wanna dine!!!!
#round 2 of recording my loser boring cannibalism song#(it has more words now. it is still not a complete song but it is getting somewhere….)#basically i really like cannibalism as a literary device and devouring somebody and being like violently enamored#and i convinced myself that my relationship was really good and healthy and i just don’t know how to handle a Good Normal Relationship#but secretly loving somebody should be at least a LITTLE BIT like cannibalism. especially if you’re me#so i got really hungry and he didn’t ever lift a finger for me or smile in my direction#and i wish he would just be hungry for me back. kill me a little bit if it would mean you care#i just thought that Normal People should be Normal about each other and he was just being Normal about me#when he like. did not prioritize me ever. and was only affectionate when he was drunk 🫠#he does NOT deserve to be the one who ended the relationship!!!!#anyway i would rather he eat me alive than not even look at me. and that’s what this song is about#and i’m gonna raise my standards so much fucking higher. he should be fucking hungry for me actually#literally and figuratively shdhdf i was always the one to invite him to dinner too.#and he was SHIT at communion motif. that guy had awful fucking table manners why did i date him#anyway shdhdf. idk here is round two of my hungry song#i’ve already changed the lyrics a little since recording this a couple mornings ago but it’s FINE my roommate is in here so can’t re-record#but: there’s something wrong but i’m not ready to face it. actually. cause it was so fucking obvious i was just willfully ignorant#anyways!! i’m feeling a little weird today and i haven’t done anything and i want to play music but i can’t. so i’m posting a song instead#and later i might be going to a concert?? we’ll see. if i’m feeling better physically by then!!#anyway i hope everybody is doing okay and lmk if you need anything!! sincerely arthur#me. my post. mine.#delete later (probably)#music

[4.7k] the four times carlos encourages lando to confess his feelings to the youngest sainz sister and the one time where he's had enough and takes matters into his own hands.
.
New Years’ Eve, 2020
It was a few minutes past eleven when Carlos found him hiding out on the balcony.
There was something so overwhelming and intoxicating about New Years Eve, something that seemed to bring so many strangers together for the end of year celebration. That was the exact reason he had practically begged the Spaniard to fly out to London after the holidays, to spend the night drinking and laughing and celebrating with him to bring in the new year.
The night had started out great. He had been surrounded by friends and friends-of-friends. He had been drinking some awful concoction Max had made that was far too sweet for his taste. He had been badly singing along to the songs blasting through the speakers and dancing—both badly and proudly—in the living room of someone's mutual friend’s house.
But then things started to get suffocating. The buzz of the alcohol started to wash away, thoughts and reality started creeping in and, suddenly, Lando didn’t want to be stuck in the middle of a group of strangers who didn’t seem to understand he didn’t want to be touched and jousted around or hugged.
He needed space. He needed fresh air. He just needed to be alone.
His lungs were burning as he took deep breaths of cold, crisp air. He let it overwhelm him, let himself focus on the fact the cold was starting to seep into his bones. He let himself focus on the present moment, rather than the millions of racing thoughts in his head. He let the loneliness ground him.
But just as quickly as that relief came, it ended.
“Why are you hiding out here for?”
Lando’s eyes instantly snapped shut as he gripped the railing, wrapping his fingers around the cold metal before he lifted his head and turned to glance over his shoulder. The Spaniard stood by the door, the buttons of his shirts undone and his cheeks flushed from the drinks he had been downing all night. His eyes were a little glossy and dazed, but his smile remained as he made his way over to the Brit.
“I’m not hiding,” Lando answered, though the response was weak and Carlos could see right through him.
“So standing on a balcony alone whilst everyone parties inside is a British New Years tradition I didn’t know?” Carlos mused as he leaned against the balcony, his body turned towards Lando. “Try again.”
“I just needed a breather,” Lando said with a casual shrug of his shoulders.
Carlos’ brows furrowed together. “From what?”
“Just…things,” he muttered, his eyes cast down as he spoke. “I’ll be back inside in a couple of minutes. You didn’t have to come out here.”
“Of course I did, you’re my friend,” Carlos scoffed, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “What’s wrong?”
Lando shook his head. “Nothing is wrong—”
“Lando,” the Spaniard said his name in a softer voice, and something about it made his eyes well up a little. It was stupid. It was so stupid—and maybe the alcohol was playing a part—but he felt oddly emotional, and he didn’t like it. “Friends don’t lie.”
“I guess I’m just not in the mood to start a new year, that’s all,” he grumbled, feeling a bit like a whining child but it was the truth. There wasn’t much in the upcoming year that he was genuinely excited for, at least nothing that was coming to mind tonight.
“Just because we aren’t teammates anymore doesn’t mean I’ll abandon you,” Carlos said, resting a hand on his shoulder until the Brit finally looked at him again. “We are friends, Lando. Nothing can change that. Not even Charles.”
“We’ll hardly see each other,” he whispered in a soft voice.
“I’ll make time,” Carlos promised, but it still didn’t seem to be enough to put the boy’s racing mind at ease. “You know the best part of us not being teammates anymore?”
Lando froze, his brows furrowing together and he almost looked offended that Carlos could find a positive in the whole situation when his chest felt tight every single time he thought about the Spaniard in the Ferrari garage instead of the room right next to his.
“What?”
And before Lando could even question the glint in his eyes, he found his eyes following Carlos’ gaze as they both glanced back into the raging party inside—or, more specifically, where you stood in the middle of the crowd, laughing and smiling and having the time of your life.
“There is nothing stopping you now.”
Lando’s head spun back around to look at Carlos, his brows furrowed together. “Huh?”
“Lando,” he said his name like it said everything. “I’m not stupid. I’ve seen the way you look at her.”
Lando let out a noise mixed between a scoff and a nervous laugh. “What? No! I—”
“Lando,” Carlos repeated, and the boy quickly pressed his lips together. “I know you didn’t want to do anything because you were scared you’d cause something but…we aren’t teammates anymore. There’s no conflict of interest. You can ask her out.”
“I don’t like your sister like that, mate,” Lando attempted to laugh off, shaking his head.
Carlos shot him a look. “Really?”
“Mhm.”
“So, you don’t care if she kisses someone else at midnight?”
And truthfully? He felt his stomach churn at the idea. He felt like he could keel over the balcony railing and empty his guts there and then at the idea of witnessing it. The boy had spent the last two years pathetically pining after you, he had time to get used to seeing you with someone else and yet, it still made him feel physically unwell.
But as pathetic as he was, he was also a coward. Because even if it would kill a part of him to see you kiss someone else when he so desperately wished it was him, he would still rather throw himself off the balcony before he confessed his feelings for you.
“I don’t care,” he gritted out through clenched teeth. “Plus, you’re her older brother. Shouldn’t you be stopping guys from coming near her?”
Carlos sighed, shaking his head. “You’re being a muppet.”
“Yeah well, it’s not the first time you’ve said that.”
Lando had told everyone he had drank far too much that night, but the truth was that he couldn’t stomach anything after watching you kiss some pretty blond guy when the clock struck midnight.
.
Summer Break, 2022
“You’re being ridiculous.”
“No, I’m not. You’ve done this on purpose.”
“It’s just a few prawns, Lando.”
“And they are making me gag!”
“They aren’t even on your plate!”
Lando glared at the small shellfish on Carlos’ plate with his nose scrunched up in disgust, a clear look of disdain on his face. He should have known the Spaniard would torture him in some way, shape or form when he invited him out for lunch. Lando just honestly assumed it would be Carlos teasing him in front of you, he didn’t realise fish would be involved.
“That is disgusting,” Lando muttered with a frown.
“You are just dramatic,” Carlos scoffed.
“Hey, give him a break,” you lightly scolded your older brother, an easy smile on your face as you pushed your pasta around your plate. “In his defence, he did look a little green when they brought it out.”
“I did not,” Lando huffed, his cheeks flaming up in embarrassment. “This is bullying. You Sainz folk are bullies.”
You snorted.
However, Carlos only rolled his eyes in response. “It is not our fault that you have the taste palate of a five year old.”
“I should have just taken Max on his offer to play FIFA over this,” Lando muttered, letting out an exaggerated squeak when he felt the Spaniard pinch his side. “Hey! Hands to yourself!”
“I thought you liked it when us Sainz folk touch you,” Carlos retorted, a glint in his eyes that made Lando’s cheeks go redder.
“Don’t be silly, cabrón,” you spoke up, a look in your eyes that matched your mother’s. “He’s just like that for Mama. Little Lando Norris likes older women.”
“I think you’ve mistaken me for Verstappen,” Lando countered.
You opened your mouth, a witty reply undoubtedly on the tip of your tongue and something in his chest buzzed in excitement to hear it. He liked it when you did this. He liked the snarky back and forth, like some weird twisted foreplay. He enjoyed the thrill it gave him, the fact your attention was purely on him and his words.
But the universe seemed to be against him as the shrill of your phone ringing interrupted whatever you were about to say, leaving you to excuse yourself as you quickly headed outside to take the call.
“For the love of everything holy, please just tell her.”
Lando tore his eyes away from the large glass window at the front of the restaurant where he had watched you animatedly talk to whoever was on the other side of the phone—not that he was jealous or anything—and instead focused on the older Spaniard next to him.
“Huh?”
Carlos shot him a blank look. “Lando.”
“Not this again,” he grumbled under his breath.
“Yes, this again!” Carlos argued as he leaned over to pinch the Brit’s side again, narrowly avoiding his hand being swatted away. “It’s been years!”
“I don’t like her like that,” Lando argued, watching as Carlos went to open his mouth, but he quickly continued. “And even if I did, it’s been years. I wouldn’t like her like that anymore.”
He didn’t think it was possible for Carlos to look more exasperated.
“You bought a camera,” Carlos stated like it was the most obvious and incriminating piece of evidence against him.
“I wanted to take up a new hobby,” Lando said with a casual shrug of his shoulders.
“So, you choose photography?”
“Yes.”
“And it has nothing to do with the fact my sister offered to give you lessons and tips?” Carlos questioned with a knowing look.
“That was just a happy coincidence,” Lando argued.
“Mate,” Carlos sighed, heavy and exhausted, as he gestured towards the camera sat beside his plate. “You’ve literally been carrying that thing around everywhere you go in hopes it will start a conversation with her. Just ask her out.”
“Did it ever occur to you that maybe I just wanted a new hobby?” Lando retorted, feeling as though his face was on fire because he was right. Carlos was always fucking right. But that wasn’t something he would ever admit, especially right now. “I was thinking of starting an insta account for my photos.”
“Really?” Carlos deadpanned.
“Mhm,” he hummed, nodding his head.
Carlos opened his mouth, arguments and exasperated pleas ready but was quickly cut off when he noticed you barrelling over to them with a massive grin on your face.
“I did it!”
“What?” Carlos murmured, eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“I got in! They accepted my portfolio! My work is going to be in the exhibition!” You all but squealed, your cheeks beginning to hurt from how wide you were smiling but you couldn’t stop. This was everything you had been working towards in the last few months and it was finally paying off.
“Congratulations!” Lando said, a grin just as wide as yours spread over his face as he quickly stood up from his seat, ignoring the looks Carlos was sending him as he brought you into a hug. “I told you you would get it.”
You pulled back, your smile softening a little as you looked up at the Brit. “You always do believe in me, Norris.”
“Always,” he replied, like it was instinctive.
For the rest of the meal, Lando promptly ignored the messages Carlos kept sending him under the table and instead let himself bask in your happiness, in your smiles, in you.
.
Silverstone, 2023
Lando Norris felt like he was standing at the top of the world.
There was a buzz of adrenaline and excitement coursing through his veins, and he genuinely didn’t think his heart would ever return to a normal rate ever again. Blood was roaring in his ears as he crossed over the line, as he heard the murmurs of his race engineer in his ear confirming his position, as the screams and cheers of the crowd completely enveloped him as he pulled his car behind the P2 sign.
His body was on autopilot as he pulled himself out of the car, running towards his team and throwing himself halfway over the barrier as they cheered and slapped him on the back. Their congratulations and praises washed over him as he tried to wrap his head around it, as he tried to process the fact he had managed a podium as his home race, like he always dreamed of.
He couldn’t stop grinning as he went through all of the post-race routines, getting weighed and finding himself in the cool down room before he headed towards the podium. He basked in the cheers as he lifted the trophy over his head, as he slammed his bottle down, as he drowned himself in champagne.
Lando Norris felt like a fucking winner, if he was being completely honest.
He had been grinning down at his trophy, gripping onto it like it was his most prized possession (and at that moment, it genuinely may have been) that he hadn’t even seen you barrelling towards him until your arms were wrapped around him and your body hit his with a soft impact, enough to make him let out a small oomph before the familiar smell of your perfume washed over him.
“I am so proud of you!”
Something in his stomach fluttered widely at your words as he wound his arms around you, holding you tighter against him as he sunk into your embrace. His eyes fell shut, his face nuzzled into the crook of your neck and Lando believed that if he died right in that second, he would have died a happy and fulfilled man.
“Thank you,” he finally spoke when he remembered he hadn’t replied yet. “It doesn’t feel real.”
“You deserve it, especially after how this season started,” you said to the boy, your voice just loud enough for only him to hear as you held onto each other.
He clung onto you, no plans of letting you go anytime soon as you both swayed on the spot but it seemed as though you were happy to stay there too. However, the unnerving sensation of feeling like he was being watched forced Lando to open his eyes, looking over your shoulder to find your older brother staring at him.
‘Do something.’ Carlos mouthed to him.
And when you eventually did pull back, teary eyed and looking at him like he hung the moon, Lando couldn’t help but let his eyes fall down to your lips. It would be so easy, so fucking easy. He could just lean down and press his lips against yours, feel the little squeak of surprise you would let out before you sunk into his kiss. He could imagine it so fucking clearly.
But the voice of reason in the back of his head managed to scream louder than the adrenaline pumping through his body and he simply threw his arm around your shoulders instead, guiding you towards where Carlos was standing.
“Gonna celebrate with me?”
“I’m gonna get you so many shots, you won’t even remember your own name, Norris.”
Lando ignored the disappointed look Carlos sent his way and instead focused on the positives. He wasn’t going to ruin your friendship when you had a good thing going, not when there was the risk he could lose everything.
And Carlos was just going to have to mind his own business and deal with that.

Las Vegas, 2023
It happened so fast.
He didn’t even know what happened until his car finally stopped moving, when the rush of spinning and going hundreds of miles an hour came to a stop and the excruciating pain washed over his whole body.
It felt like someone was stepping on his lungs, making it really fucking difficult to breathe. His head felt fuzzy and heavy, his arms even fucking heavier. For a few moments, he couldn’t remember where he was. And then the sounds of the cars passing, the smell of rubber tires and fuel hit him and he couldn’t help but let his eyes shut as the disappointment of an unfinished race overwhelmed him.
He could hear the team in his ear, begging for a response. It took him a few attempts before he was able to properly grip the wheel and hit the radio button. It took even longer to scramble out of the wrecked car, even with the help of the marshalls. Everything felt like it was moving too slow and, for someone like Lando who thrived on speed, it was disorienting.
It was like an out of body experience, like it wasn’t really him controlling his body. He just let himself be passed from person to person, someone always guiding him on where he should go. He didn’t argue with anyone as he was taken to the hospital, feeling far too tired to even try disagreeing. He just did what they told him.
Test after test, observation after observation, talk after talk. Lando went through it all, feeling like a fucking pinball as he was tossed between different rooms and machines and doctors, but he didn’t say anything. He just wanted to lay down and sleep. He just wanted to pretend this whole weekend didn’t happen.
And when he was finally allowed to head back to the paddock to have a debrief with the team and pick up his belongings, the last thing he expected was for you to be waiting in his driver room.
“Gracias a Dios,” you breathed out in relief when your eyes settled on him, standing frozen in the doorway in a jumper that was far too large for him. But it was a passing thought as you rushed over to him, only to pause in fear of hurting him further.
However, Lando just flashed you a weak smile and brought you into a hug, feeling your body sag against him.
“I was so scared,” you murmured into his chest, sniffling a little as you spoke. “They wouldn’t tell me anything. I threatened to cut Zak’s balls off if he didn’t at least tell me whether you were okay or not.”
Lando snorted softly. “He always was scared of you.”
“Good,” you grumbled before you pulled back, taking in his tired and weary expression. “How are you feeling?”
“Sore,” he answered, smiling a little when he saw your lips twitch upwards. “I’ll be fine. Just need to take it easy for a few days.”
You nodded. “We can have an easy night in, just watch a movie or something.”
And suddenly, it felt like someone was standing on his chest again.
“You don’t have to,” Lando said, shaking his head a little. “I know you’ll probably want to celebrate—”
“I don’t want to do anything except make sure you’re okay,” you interrupted, a note in your voice that he recognised as your unwavering stubbornness. “You can choose the movie. I promise I’ll only complain a little.”
Truthfully, how was he meant to say no to that?
He tried to pretend like his heart wasn’t racing when you later made your way to his hotel room, sprawled over his bed as you flicked through possible movie options. He tried to pretend his stomach wasn’t fluttering with butterflies when you settled against the headboard, your shoulder brushing against his. He tried to pretend like he was so completely fucking normal when you grabbed one of his hoodies, pulling ot over your head before settling back into his bed.
He was fine. So fucking fine.
Smooth Operator: this is your chance, muppet. tell her how you feel!!!
And despite Carlos’ message, Lando just enjoyed the night with you. After a crash that could have gone so much worse, he was just grateful to have your presence beside him, whether it was as a friend or something more.
At least, that is what he kept telling himself.
.
Sainz Christmas Party, 2023
Despite the jokes made, Lando genuinely was an honorary member of the Sainz family.
With some extra time spent in Monaco before he headed back to England to spend Christmas with his family, it was easy enough to stop over in Spain for a day or two to enjoy the annual Sainz Christmas Party before he headed home.
He had arrived the night before the party, presents in hand to give to the whole family despite their insistence that it wasn’t necessary. Something in his chest eased whenever he spent time with the Sainz family, that reassurance that even though he and Carlos are no longer teammates, they still cherish him the way he cherishes them.
The party was as extravagant and lavish as it always was. The decorations were sleek and timeless, the wine was expensive and top of the range, and the food served to the many guests was some of the finest Lando had ever truly eaten.
It felt like a home away from home as he stood beside Carlos Senior and Reyes, a glass of some fancy champagne in his flute as he laughed and chatted away to them.
That same flute that was almost knocked out of his hand as Carlos came rushing towards him, muttering apologies to the other guests as he pushed past them and beelined towards the Brit. He placed a hand on Lando’s arm, giving his parents a strained smile as he did.
“Lo siento,” he simply said before tugging Lando away from his parents and the rest of the crowd, leading him down some random hallways in the Sainz household.
“Woah, Carlos, what’s wrong?” Lando questioned, abandoning the flute of champagne on some table they passed before he split it all. “Where are we going?”
“I need your help with something important and I need you to not ask too many questions,” Carlos stated simply, which only made Lando’s concern grow tenfold.
“Carlos—”
But the Brit barely got a chance to say anything before Carlos opened a random door and gave him a hearty shove as he stumbled into the small cupboard. The boy let out a noise of surprise, taking a few moments to realise he had stumbled into you before everything clicked. He whirled around, ready to give the Spaniard a piece of his mind, but the door was quickly slammed in his face and locked shut from the outside.
“Carlos!” Lando yelled, banging on the door a few times with his fist, but it was useless.
“No, I have waited five years! I’m sick of this! If you won’t do something about this, then I have to.”
Lando kept his gaze on the door as his cheeks burned in embarrassment. “I am going to kill you!”
“You can’t kill me if I never let you out.”
His ears burned. “Carlos—”
“You’ll thank me later. Feliz Navidad and don’t forget to look up!”
The telling sound of footsteps rushing off made it clear that Carlos had quickly disappeared, leaving you and Lando trapped in the small cupboard for god-knows how long. The Brit let out a groan, leaning his forehead against the cold wooden door as he tried to settle his pounding heart.
“Ouch. I didn’t realise being trapped with me was that bad.”
“No,” Lando quickly shook his head, guilt eating away at him but he still didn’t turn to look at you. “It’s not that, I just—” he paused for a few moments before he spoke again. “He’s only doing this because of me, I didn’t mean for you to get dragged into it.”
“Lando,” you murmured his name softly, a hand placed on his lower back and he could have sworn your touch had burned through the layers of his clothes.
“I’m really sorry—”
“Lando,” you repeated again, your voice a little firmer and your hand remained where it was. “Look at me.”
He shook his head.
“Please,” you continued, and your voice tugged on his heartstrings too tightly to say no.
Lando slowly turned around, a sheepish expression on his face as he took you in. You looked absolutely fucking breathtaking in the dark green dress you were wearing, the ends swaying and brushing against the floor when you moved. Your hair was curled to perfection, your makeup enhancing every feature to make you look prettier (if that was even fucking possible). But god, the best part of your whole ensemble was the smile you gave him.
He would move mountains to see that fucking smile.
“Don’t apologise,” you said, shaking your head.
“But—” He started.
However, you just shook your head. “It’s Christmas.”
He paused, frowning a little at your response. “Huh?”
“It’s Christmas,” you said with a knowing smile before your gaze shifted upwards, and he couldn’t help but follow your eyeline. Something in his stomach flipped when he saw the sprig of mistletoe hanging above you both.
Lando swallowed harshly as he glanced back down at you, his eyes instantly landing on your lips.
“It’s bad luck to break tradition,” you said, your voice barely a whisper as you spoke. And it took a few seconds. A few split seconds for Lando to truly wrap his head around everything.
This time he didn’t let himself hesitate as he reached up, his hands completely engulfing your cheeks in his hold before he smashed his lips against yours. And just like he imagined—like he dreamt about—you let out a noise of surprise before you sunk into his embrace.
Your hands fisted the lapels of his blazer, tugging him impossibly closer in the small cupboard until your body was pressed against his. You let out a desperate noise when his tongue darted against your bottom lip, happily letting the boy completely consume you and the air you breathed. His arms around your waist, keeping you close and tight like you were going to disappear. And god, neither of you wanted to pull away.
“Shit,” he breathed out when he had to pull away, when his lungs were burning and screaming for air. He pressed his forehead against yours, your lipstick undoubtedly smudged against his lips but he didn’t care. No, he didn’t think he could ever care about anything other than kissing you ever again. “I have wanted to do that for so long.”
“I have been waiting for you to do that for so long,” you retorted, your hands smoothing the lapels of his blazer before they slid up to rest on his shoulders. “Five years, to be exact.”
Lando blinked. “What?”
And you smiled, wide and unbashful, and he thought the whole world stopped moving.
“You weren’t subtle. But apparently you were too oblivious to notice the fact I liked you back,” you said as your fingers lightly traced along the collar of his shirt.
“You knew?” His brain took a few seconds before he fully processed your words. “You liked me back?”
“Like,” you corrected. “Otherwise I wouldn’t be locked in a cupboard with you hoping you kiss me again.”
His hands squeezed your waist, a smile making its way onto his face before he could really stop himself. “I—” His cheeks turned pink, but he didn’t care. “Fuck, I think I’m dreaming.”
“You’re not dreaming, I promise,” you murmured as you tilted your head back to look up at him, eyes full of adoration that he had never really noticed until now. “But better late than never, right?”
“I’ll make it up to you,” he promised, and because he couldn’t help himself, he leaned down to peck your lips again. Though, it was a little hard when he couldn’t stop grinning. “I have five years of bad dates and secret makeout sessions to catch up on.”
Your grin widened. “Promise?”
“Promise,” Lando murmured and, for the first time in five years, the tightness in his chest felt desired and wanted. The tightness was reassuring, it was the proof he had that this was all really happening.
“Merry Christmas, Lando.”
“Merry Christmas, baby.”
And maybe—just fucking maybe—he would thank Carlos for giving him that shove he needed to have the best thing in his life: you.

WC: 2.1k
A/N: can someone tell jypapi that now I need more of Lee Know in suit and tie? thanks ^^
[☆◽️💐◽️☆]
Weddings.
Ah, yes.
That motherfucker.
It’s not like you had anything against the people that were marrying each other —God, no! Good for them!—, but rather how seeing husband and wife looking flawless and so in love made you feel.
Lonely.
As fuck.
But it all changed when you went to a wedding with a plus one for the first time. Well, he had been invited to a wedding, and you happened to be around and free.
It had been not too soon before you two started dating, but a small part of your brain knew that if you hadn’t seen Lee Minho in that gorgeous tuxedo that evening, or maybe before, when he blushed as he asked if you were free, then perhaps your choices would’ve been different —which was a blatant lie, because you were and still are head over heels for him, but we’ll keep it for comedian purposes—, because damn did that man look good in a suit.
It was when you entered the venue with him by your side, the flutters of going with your friend and crush to a wedding, of all places… the flowers, the setting, and, oh, the couple.
Everything was beautiful. It almost made you feel like you were the main character, the bride, despite the obvious knowledge that it could only be that gorgeous woman dressed in white, unlike you, in a short and fitted dress in a dark blue hue, matching your companion’s tie.
“I never would’ve thought you liked weddings so much.” Minho whispered in a soft snicker, as teasing as always, eyes fixated in the way you seemed to glow.
But you two were sat next to each other as the officiant spoke, and he was leaning close to you, his lips right by the shell of your ear, and Jesus Christ in motorbike, because he looked outstanding, and oh my god, because his hand was resting on your leg, warming up your body, that was also covered by his suit jacket because poor you had underestimated how cold a church could be, even in the end of summer.
‘Liked’ weddings? You would have cackled loudly if the setting had been more appropriate. If it meant that Minho would treat you like that every single day, you’d fucking marry one.
But instead, you chuckled softly, laying your hand on his, the one that still rested right above your knee, and you leaned too, silently reeling in the smell of his cologne.
“Never thought you’d take me to one.”
And it was not like you were going to know too soon, but to Minho, in that moment, time seemed to freeze as he stared at your features.
You smiled at him, and it had been like always, but to him, it was the most gorgeous smile he had ever had the pleasure to see, let alone cause, and it made his heart feel tight on his chest, a blush that ran to his cheeks and ears, as red-tinted as your lips, so sweet-looking that Minho had to hold back not to kiss you, keeping him from checking if they’d taste just like how they looked.
He didn’t just want to take you to weddings.
And with that thought in mind, months later, after several dates going coffe shop to coffe shop, falling in love with you, with the soft and soothing tone you spoke to his pets and how beautiful you looked like in his house, happily petting Soonie, he knew then and there that his house wasn’t his home anymore.
You were.
And he kissed you tenderly that night, struggling to find a way to express these feelings with words.
So it made both of you feel very giddy when years later, another wedding showed up.
“You’ve gotta be fucking with me.” He had mumbled, reading the mail as he entered back home. “Jagi, I’m home!” He stated loudly, the cats meowing him welcome.
You came from your study room, leaving an email half written to welcome him back for the day. He handed you the mail, but not before pecking your forehead.
“What’s going on?” You smiled softly in slight confussion, to which he grinned at you, head tilted to the first letter in the bunch.
You stared at it, your eyes turning wide, and read the sentence a couple times.
“There’s no way.” You covered your mouth, laughing in disbelief. “Our little Innie is getting married?”
“I think I lost a bet to Hyunjin.” Minho chuckled.
“Have you called him?” You smiled, excited, cheerfully going back to your study to pick your phone.
“I just saw that idiot back in JYP, he didn’t even tell us!”
Two months. Yang Jeongin, little baby bread, was marrying his now fiancé in two fucking months.
Minho couldn’t believe it, nor could you.
And then, as soon as autumn started to arrive, the first leaves turning different tones of red and yellow, falling to the ground.
Then, the wedding date came by.
[☆◽️💐◽️☆]
You embraced Jeongin’s wife in a tight hug.
“How does it feel?” You mumbled giddily, feeling Minho’s arm go back to your waist as soon as you let go of the beautiful woman dressed in white.
He’d been extra clingy the whole venue, and you had loved and cherished every moment of it. You both knew what that first wedding had meant for the other, all those years ago. It made your tummy fill with butterflies, ones that had been there ever since Minho swooshed your way.
The bride grinned happily, trying hard not to cry so she wouldn’t ruin her makeup.
“It’s like a dream I’m about to wake up from.” She snickered, cheeks covered in a pink hue that couldn’t be hidden with the light foundation she was wearing. “But you’ll get it quite soon, right?” She muttered with a smile, as if in confidence, like sharing a secret you were supposed to know.
“Ah?” But you were clueless.
Before realizing she could’ve fucked up a major canon event, his husband called her from affar, busy dealing with all the guests and the photographer, a tall man with little to no patience and lots of angry italian gestures.
“C’mon, quick.” Minho grinned next to you. “Let’s get to the chocolate fountain before someone eats all the strawberries.”
You two chuckled, sprinting towards the large set of tables and the main table, filled with different types of fruits and cheeses.
“Mmhhm!” You hummed, the warm chocolate melting on your mouth, mixing with the sweetness of the strawberry. “We really need one of these back at home.”
You two giggled and ate a couple more strawberries.
“You have chocolate in your mouth.” Minho mumbled.
You turned to face him, and he snickered, his hand traveling to your face and kissing the corner of your lip, cleaning it.
The chocolate tasted better like that anyways.
You felt your face flush, and you tutted at him playfully.
“You can look, not touch,” you mumbled with a toothy grin. “I spent so much time pissing off the makeup artists back at their place, I can’t have you ruin my lipstick, sir.” You chuckled teasingly.
“I can’t?” Minho raised his eyebrows, and you felt small under his stare, like a little prey. “Really?”
You blushed, pouting. “Minho, not fair.”
He laughed loudly at you, and then back hugged you.
“We should move before they realize we ate half of the strawberries.” He mumbled next to your ear, and cheekily nibbled on it for a second.
You giggled at his antics, and went back to where everyone was settled, joining and taking a couple of pictures with the group.
Your smile widened looking at them, groom and bride, who casually rambled about something you couldn’t hear.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Your boyfriend grinned curiously next to you.
You looked at him, your heart fluttered.
Weddings didn’t feel lonely anymore.
“They look so cute together.” You sighed. “So beautiful.”
Minho sighed too, his arm swiftly going back to your shoulders.
“Very.” He muttered softly. He wasn’t talking about the couple.
Laughter and conversations filled the air as guests, dressed in their finest, mingled beneath the gentle glow of twinkling lights.
“It’s time for the bouquet throw!” A loud voice announced.
You looked at Minho and winked teasingly.
“Hold my purse.” You smirked in between giggles. “This one’s mine.” He blushed at your determination.
It wasn’t that you had forgotten what catching the bouquet meant, rather just casually left that thought at the back of your mind.
Minho almost shivered, barely cathing your bag.
Marrying you?
Something felt heavier on the pocket of his jacket.
You settled in the group of women that stood a couple of feet away from the bride, who was laughing and pointing at someone in the midst of the girls.
“Good luck, ladies!” A low voice made you cackle loudly.
“Good luck, Felix!” You chuckled. “Good one, Hyune!” You sent a thumbs up to Hyunjin, and he laughed, blushing.
With excitement bubbling in the air, the moment arrived slowly, almost painfully so. A hush fell over the gathered guests, their eager eyes fixed on the radiant bride. She held the bouquet, a bundle of beautiful daisies, like a symbol of wishes waiting to be granted. With a grin, she turned around, and a playful spark lit up her eyes.
Full of anticipation, she raised the bouquet high above her head. Time seemed to pause for an instant, and then, with a joyful toss, she…
She… stopped?
You didn’t have time to frown in confusion when she turned around again.
The guests that had been crowded around you moved away, and the bride giddily walked towards you.
She squealed. “This is so cute. Here, girl. It’s yours.”
And she handed you the bouquet.
You blabered confused sounds of vowels, not quite understanding what was happening yet.
Gasps and other surprised reactions filled the venue, and you looked around, wondering what was all the fuss about.
“Sorry to ruin the fun, jagi.” A known voice sounded tenderly behind you, and then he giggled. “I had to make sure you’d catch it.”
With your eyes wide and your features displaying a soft grin of surprise, you turned around to face him.
“I fell in love with you in a wedding.” He started. “Not really, considering I had been pinning for you long before, which Felix never hesitated to say how down bad I was for you and how blind I was for not addmitting it.”
Your eyes swelled with tears, your hands covering your mouth. “M-Minho…”
He sniffed, holding back his own, a blush deep on his face.
“I fell in love with you over and over again, in every date we went to and every time you came by my appartment to say hi to the cats, claiming that you felt like they missed you, when it was most likely me who did.” He stared at his hands, fidgeting with them, his palms feeling sweaty.
He raised his head then, and stared deeply into your eyes. He chuckled, falling in love with you once more.
“I have a feeling that, over the course of our lives together, I will fall in love with you as many times as there are stars in the sky.” Minho smiled tearfully, a lump on his throat. “Over and over again.”
You started laughing as tears fell down your cheeks. He bent down on one knee, and your pulse faltered for a moment.
“Will you marry me?”
Because in your first wedding together, he did’t just want to take you to weddings and see other people getting married.
He wanted to marry you.
“Minho, I-” you sobbed, smiling. “Yes! Please!” You chuckled.
He hugged you tightly, and of course, just to make sure you knew who you were getting married to, he teased you.
“Like the one and only godess, Beyoncé, said once,” he mumbled in your ear, “if you like it and you’re sure, put a ring on it.”
“Minho!” You squirmed in between chuckles. “That’s not how the lyrics go!”
He shrugged. “English is hard,” he giggled. You laughed too, pulling him into a kiss.
You sure loved an idiot. But it was your idiot fiancé, soon to be your idiot husband.
Yours only.

A visible shudder escapes you as you pull your thick winter coat closer, the icy winter breeze blowing past mercilessly. The carriages had dropped you and your friends off in Hogsmeade only moments ago, and as you warily eyed the snow and ice covered sidewalks, you really weren’t looking forward to the trek it would be to the Three Broomsticks.
“The sooner we start, the sooner we’ll get there I suppose,” Daphne sighs sidling up next to you, her breath fogging up the air around the two of you. You can only nod in defeat as you wait for the rest of the group to join you.
It had been a rough week. With Christmas right around the corner, exam season was in full swing and it was hitting you hard this year. Quite frankly, all you wanted was a nice, relaxing, warm afternoon with your friends.
“You girls ready to go?” A voice asks, coming to a stop next to you. You look up to see Blaise standing comfortably in nothing but a normal, everyday jumper.
“Blimey Blaise, how are you not freezing?” Daphne asks in what sounds like a combination of utter horror and astonishment.
Blaise furrows his brow at the two of you, shivering in the cold like a pair of popsicles.
“You do both realize that you’re witches, and we learned simple warming charms in third year?” He says, speaking slowly as if talking to small children.
You open your mouth to spew out a self defense, but realizing you had none, you feel your cheeks begin to redden. And not from the cold. You quickly mutter a warming charm, immediately relaxing from the soothing warmth that slowly encapsulates you as Blaise does the same for Daphne before offering her his arm.
“Did everyone else get lost on their way out of the carriages?” Daphne asks, taking Blaise’s arm and extending her neck to look at the carriages behind you with bewilderment.
“Well, Draco said this morning at breakfast that he and Pansy wouldn’t be joining us this afternoon, he’s taking her to Puddifoot’s I think.” Blaise begins, listing your friends off on his fingers. “Matt and Theo are spending the day in detention for hexing that group of Gryffindors yesterday, so that just leaves-“
“I’m here! Sorry, some of the third years weren’t sure how to get to Honeydukes so I had to stop to give them directions,” another voice interrupts, jogging to join your group.
You immediately perk up, hearing the syrupy, sweet voice of Lorenzo Berkshire. Turning slightly, you see the handsome brunette coming to a stop next to you, greeting your small group with a lopsided grin.
“Ah, ever the knight in shining armor, aren’t you Enzo?” Daphne quips, giving Blaise a rather pointed look.
Apparently deciding to ignore the girl’s obvious jab at him, Blaise just sighs and begins pulling her in the direction of the Three Broomsticks. Enzo quickly follows and you pick your way after them, careful to trace Enzo’s footsteps in the snow. After a minute of walking, Enzo seems to realize that you were lagging behind the trio and slows his steps to synchronize with yours.
“You alright love?” He asks, capturing your hand in his and giving it a tight squeeze as the two of you continued your journey.
If not for Enzo’s natural fondness of physical touch, you’d almost think the boy knew of the festering crush you’d recently developed. Luckily for you however, it was not uncommon for Enzo’s hand to find its way to yours, nor was it uncommon for you to be hugged, or even cuddled by the affectionate boy. The boy’s seeming need to shower you with constant attention was just one of the many reasons you wanted to see what was under that cheeky attitude of his. Bless your soul.
You offer a small shrug, pushing the wandering thoughts of your brown haired friend to the side.
“Just had a stressful week I suppose. That transfiguration exam we had yesterday was absolutely brutal. Feels like it just sapped the life out of me,” you tell him, looking down at your intertwined fingers as Enzo begins to softly rub comforting circles on the back of your hand.
“Ugh, don’t remind me,” the brunette says, throwing his head back dramatically, “I was up so late studying for that, and I probably still barely passed. Don’t know how I’ve managed to make it this far in that course.”
You nod solemnly in agreement.
“God, Daph and I were so out of it this afternoon, Blaise had to remind us that warming charms exist. Warming charms. Truly humbling.”
Enzo laughs, eyes shining and looking down at you with what almost seems like adoration and you feel your heart skip a beat.
“How much further is it? Seems like we’ve been walking forever.” Daphne asks as the two of you catch up to her and Blaise.
“Broomsticks is right on 16th avenue. Should just be another block,” Enzo replies easily, pointing to the next street over.
“We’ve only been there a thousand times Daph,” you laugh as your group hurries the rest of the way to the small pub.
The bell over the door rings quietly as you enter and you give a small wave to Rosmerta who stands behind the bar. You shuffle over to your usual booth in a quieter section of the pub and slide into the seat. Enzo follows close behind, wrapping an arm around you as his hand finds a comfortable spot to rest on your hip.
The action doesn’t go unnoticed by Daphne who raises a brow, cocking her head at you as if to ask, “did it finally happen?” You give her a small shake of the head, no, as Rosmerta walks over to take your orders.
“And what can I get you lot today?” She asks with a warm smile.
“Just two butter beers for us,” Blaise says, gesturing to himself and Daphne who had made herself comfortable in the nook of his arm.
“And one hot cocoa and a butter beer for us please,” Enzo finishes with his signature grin that could melt anyone’s heart. “Oh, and just a water as well if I could,” he adds.
With a nod, Rosmerta turns to take your order to the bar.
“So. What are everyone’s plans for the holidays? Mother and father are leaving Toria and I at the manor alone again this year and I need someone to live vicariously through.” Daphne says once the older witch is gone.
You grimace feeling sorry for your friend. This was the third year in a row now that her parents had left her and her sister alone for Christmas. While not the most attentive, at least your parents didn’t leave you completely high and dry.
“I think I’m just going home for the holidays, nothing too entirely interesting I’m afraid. Mum will probably be tied up at the ministry all holiday, and father can never be away from his business too long. You know,” you tell her, sure your other friends probably had much grander plans.
“I’m sure it’ll be plenty relaxing. Perhaps you’ll have time to grab lunch with Toria, Pansy, and I one day,” she assures you.
Blaise nods his head. “Mother has decided that she wants to spend her holiday in the sun, so I’m going home to Italy,” he says rolling his eyes. “Mother said she’d love to have you for a visit though,” he adds turning to Daphne. “I’m sure Astoria could come as well so that she isn’t alone. If she isn’t spending her holiday with Matt that is.”
Your eyebrows shoot up at this and you share a knowing look with Enzo. It was commonly known among pure blood families that an invitation to spend the holidays at one’s ancestral home generally meant that the relationship was quite serious. And by the sounds of it, both Greengrass sisters were likely soon to be off the market. A piping hot bit of gossip indeed.
“What about you Enzo? How are you spending your few weeks of freedom?” You ask, just as Rosmerta returns with your tray of drinks.
She carefully sets a hot cocoa down in front of you, whipped cream covered in shiny little chocolate shavings hung deliciously over the sides, before placing a warm, golden drink in front of each of your companions. Before she can forget, she hands Enzo a cold glass, filled to the brim with water.
You watch carefully as his hand closes around the cold glass, fingertips leaving wet prints on the frosty exterior as he raises the glass to his lips. Oh what you would give to know that body as if it were your own. A shiver runs down your spine and you quickly force yourself to snap out of it before you made a fool of yourself.
“I wouldn’t exactly call it freedom,” Enzo says finally, wiping a bit of water from the side of his pretty, pink lips. “Mother and father are determined to find me a suitable partner and refuse to leave me alone. And now they’ve roped aunt Cissy into their schemes. Speaking of which, were you all invited to the Malfoy ball? The Christmas one?” He asks.
Daphne and Blaise both nod their heads. You don’t.
“Really, y/n? I would’ve thought Draco would have insisted you were invited,” Daphne says.
“Don’t worry, I’m sure it’ll be just as dull as every other year. You’re not missing much.” Blaise adds.
“You’re right, she won’t be missing anything at all. You can be my date, y/n. I promise I’m a fun time,” he says laying his boyish charm on thick. Not that he needed to with you.
Daphne sends a sly smile your way.
“I’m sure y/n would just love that. And your mum adores her. Remember my mother’s garden party, y/n? You and Mrs. Berkshire chatted for hours. Oh! And you can come with Toria and I to find dresses. You simply must come,” she gushes.
Enzo gives you a dopey smile and you can feel his thumb making long, slow strokes along your hip bone.
“Alright, I suppose I can make time during my very busy and packed holiday,” you say with a light laugh, melting into Enzo’s touch.
Tumblr media
Later that evening you find yourself wandering the stacks of books, lining the library shelves as you search for the one book that would help you complete your charms essay. You didn’t mean to listen in on what was clearly meant to be a private conversation. You really didn’t. But something about Enzo’s voice made you feel like a fly trapped in honey.
“Mate, I think she knows,” he whispers furiously to Blaise who sits next to him, looking rather miserable. “I mean I know I’m rather obsessed with her, but I thought I was being subtle.” You hear him say.
Blaise cocks an eyebrow at this.
“You volun-told her that she would be your date. To the Malfoy ball. Immediately after telling her that your parents want you to find a wife. And you thought you were being subtle?” He asks his starry eyed friend.
“Was I not?”
“No you bloody idiot.”
Were they talking about you? Peaking through the shelves, you see Enzo frown in confusion at this.
“Well, how did you tell Daphne you fancied her?” He asks.
Blaise looks like he’s about ready to drown himself in the Black Lake.
“I don’t know mate. I asked her to accompany me to one of Parkinson’s galas I suppose.”
“That’s it? And she just fell in love with you? At one of those boring, stuffy things?”
Before Blaise is able to silently combust, Draco makes his grand appearance, carrying with him a stack of books piled well past the top of his head.
“Ah. Are we talking about wooing Enzo’s future wife, y/n, again? Draco asks, setting down his mountain of books and pulling up a seat next to the other boys.
You feel your cheeks flush bright red at Draco’s words. You were most definitely not meant to hear this conversation.
“You better lock that one down quick mate. She may not stick around. The good ones aren’t too keen on waiting these days. Plus, Pansy might have mentioned the other night that y/n has developed quite the little crush on you too,” Draco tells him rather matter of factly, opening his text book.
Your mouth drops open at this. Pansy! How could she? Actually, you thought to yourself, she is quite the gossip, it really was on you for spilling that to her. Never mind. With a sudden burst of determination and self-resolve, you decide that it’s time to end this little game of will they, won’t they once and for all. You quickly round the corner, easily making your way over to the table occupied by the three boys.
“Thank Rowena,” you say, acting as if you’d just caught sight of the boys. “I cannot find the book I’m looking for anywhere, can one of you help me search?” You ask marching up to them, eyeing Draco’s large stack.
The boys look up at you a bit startled, but Enzo immediately jumps up from his seat, scrambling to get his things in order. Perfect, you smile to yourself. Now to lure him into the maze of bookshelves.
“Course love, what book are we looking for?” He says finally, giving you another dopey grin.
You hear Blaise mutter something under his breath, but choose to ignore it.
“Advanced Charm Work in the second edition,” you tell him, leading him back to the shelves you had previously been lurking in.
“Ah, working on the charms essay, are you?” Enzo asks, eyes roaming the shelves, looking for the elusive tome.
“Mmm. Trying to. But this bloody book is nowhere to be found,” you reply. “I’d ask Pince, but I’m so afraid of her.”
Enzo snorts at that, before nodding his head in agreement. You look in silence for a bit longer before you finally lean against a shelf, eyes gazing over the profile of the boy standing beside you. He’d definitely grown into his boyish features this last year, indigo eyes conveniently distracted in search of your book and an almost lyrical smile gracing his lips. You let your eyes wander lower to his permanently untucked shirt and long slender fingers that you desperately wanted running through your hair.
“Give up?” The sound of his voice jolts you out of your thoughts as you look up to find his dark eyes staring down at you, a smile tugging at his lips.
You shrug your shoulders.
“I saw it in the stack of books that Draco is holding hostage at your table,” you admit as Enzo moves to stand in front of you, trapping you between him and the shelf that was now digging into your back.
Enzo smirks.
“Then what are we doing back here, love?” He asks, bring his arms up, further trapping you between the hands now positioned on each side of your head.
“I think you know,” you murmur, grabbing hold of his tie and giving it a small tug, causing his lips to crash into yours. They were just as soft and warm as you imagined as he moves them expertly against yours, working a small moan out of you.
“Shh love,” he whispers against your lips, before claiming them with his once more. You feel yourself getting lost in his touch, following the sparks erupting in your chest as one of his hands drops to grip tightly around your thigh eliciting another soft moan from your lips.
Enzo pulls away again with a low laugh.
“Needy witch. Why don’t we finish this somewhere a bit more private?” He says breathily, brushing away a stray hair from your face. “You have no idea how long I’ve waited to do that. I’m going to do it right.”
You smile mischievously. “I mean, if I’m your future wife, I think you have all the time in the world to do it right.”
Enzo’s face immediately reddens.
“How much of that did you hear?”
You shrug innocently, a giggle escaping your lips.
“Enough. But really Enzo? Going to Blaise of all people for romantic advice? That boy is so emotionally constipated.” You say as Enzo begins leading you out of the library.
“Hush love, it worked didn’t it?” He says sticking his tongue out at you playfully.
You’re eyes lock in once again on the pretty set of lips in front of you before flickering up to meet Enzo’s equally heated gaze. Charms essay be damned, you could not wait to get to this boy’s dorm.

Summary: Toji Zenin is scary; he’s the most intimidating boy in your class. When you’re paired with him for a group project, you’re nervous that he’s as bad as he seems. However, you learn that behind that hard exterior is a person yearning just to be normal.

You meet Toji in high school, when you’re paired up randomly for a project during your last semester of senior year. He’s a transfer student, having just joined a month ago, introducing himself briefly with a scowl on his face, uninterested in anything. Aside from his obvious stature, the evident scar running across his mouth stands out. Most of your peers avoid him, intimidated by his overwhelming presence. He’s bigger than everyone else, both in height and muscle; he looks like someone you don’t want to mess with. Even teachers do their best to evade him, leaving him to his own devices in the back corner of the classroom. At least he isn’t disruptive; most of the time, he keeps to himself.
Of course, in a school as small as yours, gossip spreads like wildfire. They say he comes from a prominent family, the “Zenin’s”. You’ve never heard of them; apparently, they are notoriously elitist and filthy rich. So, it surprises you that a son of the Zenin clan would attend a public school like yours rather than a private institution. Maybe he’s different.
Everyone dreads group projects, let alone randomly assigned group projects. Everyone is on pins and needles, waiting to hear who their partner is. When your name follows his, your heart sinks into your belly. Sighs of relief wash over the rest of your classmates, thankful that they aren’t you. Taking a deep breath, you get up from your seat, slowly walking towards him. When you’re by his desk, he doesn’t look up. You clear your throat to say, “Hello. I guess we’re partners for this project.”
He scoffs, twirling a pen between his fingers, brows furrowed, irritated already. “Great,” he mutters, sarcastically.
Okay, maybe he’s not different.
~~~
Your teacher calls this project “A Week in the Life”. Basically, you’re tasked to capture your partner’s daily routines throughout the week in the form of photographs. Each student is given a disposable camera, loaded and ready to use. Once developed, you’re supposed to put them together into a collage, decorating it however you desire. A short essay is also required, describing what you will learn about the other person after spending this time with them. You have an entire month to complete everything. Weekdays are repetitive, considering most of the day you’re in school; it’s the afternoons, nights, and weekends that set each person apart from the other.
“I’m not inviting you into my house,” Toji says, crossing his arms over his chest.
“But that’s part of the project. I’m supposed to see what you do on a daily basis.” You resist the urge to sound equally as annoyed, not wanting to start off on the wrong foot.
He glares at you, hunched over his desk. “I avoid going home as much as possible. That’s what I usually do.”
You swallow hard, unsure how to respond. Eventually, you murmur, “Well then, you can do me first. We’ll just figure yours out later.”
He shrugs, unenthused. “Whatever.”
You pull your phone out of your pocket, sliding it towards him. “Let’s exchange numbers so we can coordinate our schedules. We can start next week.” He doesn’t argue, pushing his cell to you to do the same.
As planned, the following Monday, Toji begins taking random photos of you during the school day. It starts off in class when he captures you working at your desk. Other students are doing the same, so it isn’t as awkward as you expect it to be. Still, it feels odd being watched by Toji through the lens of the camera.
At lunchtime, he sits with you and your friends in the cafeteria, his big body smushed next to yours as you munch on your meal. You notice that he hasn’t brought anything to eat except for a protein bar and sports drink. Not thinking anything of it, you split your egg salad sandwich into two triangles, handing him one. He glances at it, then at you, confused. “What?”
“Eat it.”
He makes a face, taking it reluctantly, having the audacity to sniff it before taking a bite. When he doesn’t say anything, expression relaxing, you smile to yourself, satisfied. It’s gone two bites later, and from your peripheral, you see him lick the excess off his thumb. Mouth still full, he mumbles a brisk, “Thanks,” snapping his drink open to take a swig.
After school, you attend a book club meeting that’s hosted every Monday by your friend. Toji snaps a photo of you and your group posing with your book for this month. Before you leave for dinner, a few of the girls whisper to you about how hot he is, how lucky you are to be paired up with such a hunk. How scary he comes off with his scowls and glares. They’re so loud, you’re certain he can hear, but he doesn’t mention anything about it. That is, until you’re alone with him, walking home together.
“So, do you think I’m scary?” He has his hands in his pockets, looking down at the ground where he walks besides you.
The question catches you off guard. “Huh?”
“Do you think I’m scary?” he repeats, looking at you now, smirking.
You grin. “Maybe a little bit at first. Not so much anymore.”
“What changed?”
“I saw you inhale that sandwich. The tough guy act disappeared in that moment.”
“Hey, that thing was tiny. I could have swallowed it in one bite,” he chuckles, kicking a pebble on the ground. “And I’m not putting on a tough guy act. This is just who I am.”
You giggle softly, smiling at him. “Well, I’m looking forward to getting to know you better, Zenin.”
“Toji. Call me Toji.”
~~~
Dinner with your parents goes by smoothly. You’ve prepared them for this special visitor, urging them to be on their best behavior and not judge a book by his cover. Naturally, your mother is startled when his big frame enters through the doorway, but when he bows to her, introducing himself respectfully, she eases up. After a quick tour of your house, Toji snaps shots of you helping your parents in the kitchen. With the whole spread laid out on the table, he takes another photo before you all gather around to eat.
Much like earlier in the day, Toji scarfs his meal, mumbling out compliments to the chef. Your parents are thrilled, dropping more servings onto his plate, watching with pride as their cooking is devoured. You can’t help wanting to capture this memory, so you retrieve your own disposable camera from your backpack, taking his picture. He doesn’t seem to mind.
The two of you eat ice cream sandwiches in your backyard while your parents wash the dishes. The sun is setting, beautiful golden streaks shining from the horizon. Your classmate takes a candid of you sitting on the patio chair, staring at the last moments of daylight. “Do your parents cook like that every day?” he asks, finishing off the last of his dessert.
“Nah, they just wanted to impress you.”
“Well, I am thoroughly impressed. That was the best meal I’ve had in a long time.”
After just one day with him, you feel comfortable enough to ask, hoping that it isn’t crossing the line. “Do you dislike eating at home?”
He doesn’t respond right away, thinking of his answer carefully. “Yeah, I do.”
“Why?”
He smirks, running his thumb along the scar on his lips. “Dinners at my house don’t always end in dessert, if you know what I mean.”
Your jaw drops, unable to contain your reaction. “You’re saying…”
He leans back into his seat. “Yup. Got a knife thrown at me.”
“What?!”
Laughing, he nods. “After that, I didn’t like having dinners there.”
You’re tempted to ask for the whole story, but you know it’s pushing it. Instead, you offer, “Well, you’re always welcome here.”
It’s a simple comment. To you, it’s nothing. Maybe it’s because you’re used to offering kindness to others; it’s what you were raised to do. It’s what the people around you do. It’s common. Second-nature, really.
But as Toji stares at you, wearing an expression you’ve never seen before, one of genuine gratefulness, you realize that to him, it’s not nothing. It’s special.
Throughout the remainder of the week, Toji spends practically his whole day with you, morning, noon, and night. During this time, you learn that his family is wealthy, though he chose to attend this school on his own will, just to spite them. He considers himself an outcast, the black sheep of the Zenin clan, so much so that he even refuses to associate himself with the family name. And while he’s sure he’s better off away from the snooty rich kids of the school he would have attended, his intimidating appearance and less-than-friendly attitude has made him an outcast amongst your peers. You feel guilty being part of the problem, judging him before getting to know him. He’s actually easy to talk to. It helps that he’s an open book about his personal life.
Saturday, you plan to go to the aquarium with your family, inviting him to tag along for the project (and for fun). Toji is at your doorstep right on time, dressed in a tight black tee shirt and grey sweatpants, accentuating his chiseled figure. There’s no denying it; he’s very attractive. You’d be lying to yourself if you said it hasn’t crossed your mind. But Toji doesn’t need people to be attracted to him; he needs a friend. And that’s what you’ll be to him.
It’s a fun day, observing all the fish and aquatic creatures swimming in their tanks. He takes pictures whenever it’s appropriate, covering the flash with his finger as to not disturb any of the animals inside. You eat lunch together in the cafeteria, Toji offering to pay for it as thanks for all the kindness he was shown this week. Near closing time, you take one last stroll through the jellyfish section, marveling at the wonderfully bizarre invertebrates floating in the water.
“I’ve never been to an aquarium before,” he admits, quietly admiring them beside you. His eyes twinkle with the glow of the iridescent jellyfish swimming in front of him.
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
You nudge him playfully. “So, what do you think?”
He smiles, rubbing the spot on his arm that you touched. “Better than I expected.”
~~~
The following week is his turn. The closest you get to his mansion of a home is on the outside, not even through the gates.
“This is for your own good,” he warns, throwing a twig aggressively between the spaces of the iron bars.
You snap a quick photo with your disposable, not questioning it. When you’re finished, he smirks. “So, ready for some real fun?”
Toji spends his days after school at various locations. Basically everywhere except his own home. The public library, the gym, arcades, shopping malls, cafés, you name it. He’ll eat dinner at whatever restaurant his stomach fancies at the moment: Ramen, Takoyaki, steak, even instant ramen, depending on his mood. And while his life seems fun from the outside, like a kid in a candy store, it’s lonely. Except for when he’s with you.
Saturday is different from the other days. On the weekends, he goes to the beach, bag packed with his favorite books and snacks, ready to relax on the sand with the waves crashing against the shore. He sets up a large umbrella to cover both of you as you settle into the big blanket laid flat. He passes you one of his books, a volume of his favorite manga. The two of you read in a comfortable silence, sharing a bag of chips, fingers brushing against each other’s whenever you reach at the same time.
Out of the blue, he comments, “This is nice. It’s normal.”
Laughing, you reply, “What do you mean?”
He sets his book down, looking at you. “Nothing about my family is normal. It’s just nice to feel like a human instead of a failure.”
Your eyes widen, uncertain how to respond. Before you can say anything, he murmurs, “Sorry. I didn’t meant to kill the mood.”
You close the manga, smiling gently at him. “Don’t be. I can’t imagine what it’s like. My life is very normal.”
“That’s what I like about you, though.”
Heat rushes into your cheeks at his statement, and maybe it’s your imagination, but you see him blush. You’ve taken enough pictures to complete your project, but there’s still a bit of film left. “Let’s take a picture together,” you suggest, holding the camera in your hand, trying to lighten the mood.
“Seriously? Why?”
“To celebrate being normal, even if it just for a day.”
He grins, scooting closer to you. “Okay.”
You lean against him, both of you smiling, capturing the moment with the click of your finger.
~~~
Toji doesn’t stop eating lunch with you. Even with your photos at the lab, being developed, he remains by your side, eating the extra sandwich you always pack for him now. Occasionally, he’ll stop by for dinner, always welcomed by your parents. On the other days, you accompany him to whatever restaurant he’s craving.
When the photos are complete, you pick them up together, not wanting to share them yet, hoping to be surprised on the day they’re displayed in the classroom. At home, you compile the pictures into a stylish collage, decorating the borders with fun stickers, smiling as you gaze at each photo of him. One at the arcade, holding a toy guy in his hands with the high score flashing in the background. Another at the gym, where’s he’s kicking a punching bag, making it look far too easy. Finally, there’s the last photo you took at the beach, the two of you posing for the camera. It’s a cute picture, one that shows two people who live very different lives happily enjoying their time together. You tape it right in the middle.
When everyone’s posters are hung around the classroom, many people flock to Toji’s, desperate for a glimpse in his mysterious life. Many gawk at the mansion behind the gates, unaware of the dark secrets it holds. The girls ogle the gym picture, while the boys admire it, asking for workout tips. Toji looks pleased with how his collage turns out, especially intrigued by the photo in the center. “You included the one of us, huh?”
“It’s too cute, isn’t it? I had to include it.”
He smiles at you. “I totally agree.”
He walks you home that afternoon, a usual part of his routine now. Curious, you ask, “So, what did you write about me for your essay?”
“I wrote about how nerdy you are, going to class and willingly going to clubs after school. For fun,” he emphasizes, rolling his eyes, teasing you.
You poke his arm playfully. “And…?”
“I said that you and your family are really nice. And that your parents should be chefs,” he adds, grinning.
You laugh, hooking your arm around his. “That’s more like it.”
Before you know it, you’re at one of the parks he frequents, sitting side-by-side at his favorite bench. “What did you say? About me?” he asks, staring at his hands in his lap.
Without thinking, you rest your head on his shoulder. “That you’re not actually scary. You’re just you. And who you are is pretty great. Really great, actually.”
There’s a pause while he processes what you said. Afraid that it’s too far, you attempt to back away from him, but he catches you first, pulling you in for a kiss. It’s hesitant, like he’s unsure if this is okay. And when you place your hand on his chest, feeling his quickening heartbeat race against your fingertips, the kiss deepens, his lips parting open to slide his tongue inside your mouth. Before it gets any further, he pulls off quickly. Electricity hangs in the air, buzzing on your lips, tingling on every inch of your skin.
“I’m sorry,” you apologize, throat heavy. “I shouldn’t have done that. I just thought – ”
“You’re right. You shouldn’t have,” he spits out, jaw clenched, avoiding your gaze. It’s a harsh voice you haven’t heard the entire time since the start of your friendship.
“But I thought you liked – ”
“You’re wrong. I don’t. I – ,” he swallows, struggling to get the words out. “And I never will.” He stands up, turning his back towards you, leaving you alone with tears streaming down your face, embarrassed, confused, and heartbroken.
It’s the last time you’ll see of him. He doesn’t come back to class after that incident. Rumor has it that he came in early the next morning to gather all his belongings, which wasn’t much to begin with. There’s more gossip about it, of course, ridiculous chatter. Eventually, they fade, and his name is no longer uttered by anyone, including you. Months pass, and gradually, new memories overtake the old ones. Life goes on without him. You don’t notice the center photo of your collage is gone until you collect it at the end of the schoolyear.
He’ll never tell you that it’s for your own good. That turning his back on you is the best option to keep you safe. No matter how much he opens up to you, his reality is much worse than you can ever know. Hurting you is his way of protecting you. Because loving you is too dangerous, especially for someone like him.
~~~
Ten years later, you’re an elementary school teacher in your hometown. You planted yourself right where your roots grew. There is nothing but grand memories in this place you’re lucky to call your home. The only exception is the abandoned plot of land where the Zenin mansion was demolished a few years ago without any explanation. You preserve its memory in the form of a tattered photograph, forgotten somewhere in your closet.
Today, there’s a new student transferring into your kindergarten class; an adorable little boy with jet black hair and long eyelashes named Megumi. He reminds you of someone from your past, someone you kept buried in the back of your mind a while ago, for your own sanity.
Little do you know that on the other side of the door, Toji Fushiguro leans against the wall, listening carefully to your familiar voice introducing yourself to his son. He smiles to himself, the month you shared together all those years ago fondly replaying in fast forward in his mind. He’s no longer a Zenin, unleashed from the cruelty of his ancestry, liberated from the life he was cursed with from birth. Free to love who he wants without fearing that their life is in danger by the hands of his wretched family.
He sticks his hands in his pocket, fingers brushing along the corners of the withered photo of the two of you smiling at the beach. With a deep breath, he grips the handle of the door, finally ready to face you at long last.
Oh No, There’s Only One Bed
Bradley Bradshaw x reader 2k words summary: The hotel is all booked out and now you have to share a room with Bradley Bradshaw. Worse, you have to share a bed.
there’s not much plot in this. so like dont get your hopes up. im not happy with how it turned out
prequel to “Oh No, There's An Arm Around My Waist”, can be read seperately tho
top gun masterlist
Tumblr media
“You have got to be kidding me.”
You couldn’t help yourself, already regretting the words once they’d left your mouth. The poor receptionist played no part in this - it wasn’t his fault. You weren’t usually this rude to hotel staff.
“I’m sorry ma’am, but we’re all booked out for tonight. It’s a twin room or no room at all.”
“C’mon, we can make it work.”
You looked up at Bradley like he was out of his mind. And he even had the audacity to grin at you. “It’s just one night.”
“You can’t be serious.”
You couldn’t believe that he was actually supporting this dumb fucking idea. “We can’t share a room. We can’t share a bed, Bradshaw.”
He raised his eyebrows and you bit your lip, mentally roundhouse-kicking yourself in the face. Why did you have to be so obviously avoidant? Your fight-or-flight was kicking in at the mere proposal. It was too obvious. Were normal people as desperately opposed to the idea of sharing a bed with a friend? Probably not. So why the fuck were you?
Because maybe Bradley was not just a friend.
Because maybe you were totally in love with him. And because maybe you’d rather die than ever admit that and get rejected.
“I mean-” You scrambled for words, for a quick excuse that would make sense, that would save you from at least some of the embarrassment. “You know, like, we’re friends. Friends don’t share a bed.”
Welp, that did not work. Horrible miss. Dart stuck in the wall-kind of miss.
“I’ll build a pillow wall if that makes you feel better”, Bradley promised, failing to hide his amusement. You clenched your jaw.
You shouldn’t. You really shouldn’t.
“There’s other hotels”, you tried, desperate to find a different solution.
“Yeah”, he nodded, almost too enthusiastically. “Sure. Because those aren’t booked out.”
Alright. So maybe he had a point.
The only options here were sleeping on the floor of a subway station in San Diego or sharing a bed with him. And the fact that you actually took two seconds debating whether getting chlamydia would be worth not having to sleep pressed up against Bradley’s (warm and very comfortable) chest in a clean bed told you enough about just how far you’d fallen for him already. You were in too deep. And after tonight, you’d be a goner.
But you really, really did not want to spend the night on the subway.
“Fuck this”, you muttered, turning back to the poor receptionist who looked like he’d rather be on the subway getting chlamydia himself than here and forcefully smiled at him. “We’ll take the room, thank you.”
...
The door swung open and you blindly reached for the light switch, flipping it on before trudging into the room with your suitcase in one hand and the keys in the other.
You parked the suitcase in some random corner, threw your jacket onto the tiny table and looked up only to see that Bradley had already claimed the left side of the bed, arms and legs spread out, eyes closed. There was a lump in your throat as you watched him breathe that should not have been there. Neither should the flutter in your tummy. Neither should the heat in your cheeks when he opened his eyes and caught you staring.
“This is like some fucked up scene straight out of a shitty rom-com”, you complained - the only thing you knew how to do so you wouldn’t drool. He looked way too attractive doing literally nothing. You were not okay with that. Especially now that you had to share the bed with him.
He tucked his hands behind his head (his biceps flexed ridiculously) and chuckled.
“You love rom-coms”, he reminded you.
“Yeah, but only good ones with actual plot and characters that have personality.”
(This was, in itself, an absolute and total lie and Bradley definitely knew that. He was right - you loved rom-coms. You loved all of them. Especially the shitty ones with no plot whatsoever except “Oh we’re two idiots in love”. But you’d thought it would be much more fun if life played out like that - you hadn’t thought it would be like this.)
“You’re a bad liar”, he laughed, propping himself up on his elbows to get a better look at you.
“Am not”, you protested. He hummed.
“You definitely are.”
Then he patted the other side of the bed again. “Stop pouting and get in.”
You rolled your eyes and turned away from him, bending down to put your suitcase on the ground and undo the zipper.
“Gotta change first, Bradshaw. You can build that pillow wall while I’m in the bathroom.”
His chuckle followed you even as you closed the door behind you half a minute later and it took you longer than it should have to change into pajamas - shout out to your shaking hands - partly because you spent five minutes brushing your teeth, looking at yourself in the mirror and trying to calm your nerves by telling your reflection all kinds of reassurances. (”It’s just one night” and “If you stay on your side you won’t even know he’s there” and “You’ll both be asleep anyway”)
You almost had a heart attack when you left the bathroom again.
Because yes, Bradley was still in bed, and that in itself was stressful enough. But mainly because he’d kicked the covers to his feet and his pajamas, if one could call it that, consisted only of his briefs.
At least he had the decency to look apologetic.
“Sorry”, he said, gesturing at himself. “I don’t have sleepwear with me. I usually sleep naked.”
Because of course he did. Of course Bradley fucking Bradshaw slept naked.
“Uh”, you managed, mind completely blank. You were very, very much aware of the fact that you should say something. You just did not have the mental capacity to come up with anything whatsoever.
There was a goddamn Adonis in your bed.
If you’d thought you weren’t wearing much before (because you really weren’t, you’d expected San Diego to be warm and had only packed a skimpy little nightgown) then Bradley was wearing literally nothing.
And, well, he kind of was wearing nothing.
Couldn’t he at least have kept the covers up? But no. You knew him. He was basically a live heating pad. He’d die if he pulled them up.
“Okay”, you eventually managed to croax out, forcing your feet to work, to carry you to the right side - your side - of the bed, to flick on the lamp on your bedside table and turn off the big one, all without thinking. “Yeah, no worries.”
“Good.” He nodded his head for what had to be the better part of ten full seconds. “Good.”
The silence felt awkward. You were just sitting on the edge of the bed and he was propped up on his elbows on his side, staring holes into the air, not saying anything. Eventually he cleared his throat.
“Wanna, like, sleep?”
“Oh, yeah.” You busied yourself with the covers so you wouldn’t have to look at him, carefully sliding underneath them. “Yeah, we probably should.”
Only the rustling of the sheets filled the room until you were finally lying flat on the mattress, head resting on the pillow, and then there was silence again and you wanted to scream. This was more uncomfortable than anything else had ever been with him. Usually it was easy and light and that was why you liked him so much, that was why the two of you had initially become friends at all, but this... this was so heavy. Like something looming over the two of you that neither was addressing, just staring at it, aware that it was there but not doing anything about it.
This time, you cleared your throat, reached for the bedside lamp and turned that off too. The room was dark without it. You could only make out his contours next to you, hear the sound of his breath.
“Good night then”, you whispered, listening as his sheets rustled as well as he lay back, turning onto his side so that he was facing you. For a moment you felt the urge to do the same, but before you could even think about moving you were already swatting the idea away with an imaginary broom and locking it out of your imaginary house. Like hell you were gonna face him. Nuh-uh. You’d rather take the subway and the chlamydia after all.
“Good night”, he said softly, adjusting his hands one final time before the quiet of the night enveloped the two of you.
You tried to even your breathing, to focus on anything but him so close to you. You needed to sleep and you needed to sleep quick. But your mind was racing, your heart was beating so fast and so loud that you could hear it, your skin was burning up and you felt like you were about to lose it.
You managed about five minutes before you turned away from him, onto your side, in hopes that that would make it better.
It didn’t.
Five minutes after that, you tried lying on your stomach. Which, to nobody’s surprise, worked no better. It took almost fifteen minutes for you to find the courage to turn onto your right side, to turn so that you were facing him after all. He hadn’t moved an inch.
In fact, he hadn’t tried to sleep at all.
When you turned and caught sight of him (bare chest and messy hair and fuck) you almost screamed. His eyes were wide open, watching you, reflecting the little moonlight that was flooding through the windows.
“Jesus”, you whispered, pressing a hand to your chest as he grinned, his face mere inches from yours. “Bradley, you scared the hell out of me.”
He didn’t even react to that.
“Can’t sleep?”, he asked instead. He was so close that you could feel his breath on your skin when he spoke. You had to swallow.
“No”, you admitted. For a moment you thought maybe he hadn’t heard you, maybe he’d fallen asleep, but then he moved his arms and you felt a shiver down your spine when his fingertips brushed over the exposed skin of your arms. He wrapped one arm around your waist, his palm resting on the small of your back, and pulled you closer to him. So close that your knees bumped into his thighs. So close that your hands bumped into his torso. So close that your nose bumped into his throat.
All of them were innocent touches: chaste, easy, light. His skin was barely grazing yours. But they were enough.
Enough to go crazy over. Enough to hold your breath for a good half minute.
“Relax”, he muttered, his other hand threading through your hair and holding you just as close as the one on your back.
You swallowed hard.
“Bradley”, you murmured, not knowing just yet what you were going to say. Maybe you would have pulled away. Or maybe you would have bit the bullet and, for once in your life, taken the chance - maybe you would’ve told him right then and there just what you felt for him. Because friends certainly didn’t do this.
“We’ll talk tomorrow”, he muttered, pressing a soft kiss to the top of your head and immediately silencing your inner monologue. “Tomorrow. Just sleep for now.”
Are You Warm Enough?
Nameless Ghouls x Fem!Reader
Warnings: None! Just fluff.
Summary: You fall asleep in the library, waking up in a ghouls arms. You then end up in a ghoul pile.
A/N: This is quite short, I’m sorry! Hope you enjoy though!
Tumblr media
Trying to keep my eyes open, I groan as I sit up in my chair, stretching my arms out. I’m so, so incredibly tired; but Sister Imperator is insisting that I get this task done before the end of the day. Looking around the library, I realise there’s no-one else here. Surely a little nap won’t hurt? I set an alarm on my phone for twenty minutes, and I rest my head on the desk, allowing my eyes to close.
~20 minutes later~
I feel my phone buzzing in my pocket. Confused, my eyes flicker open. Suddenly I realise I’m being carried. Looking up, I see a familiar, friendly face.
“Hey, sleepyhead.” Aether smiles at me, still walking whilst carrying me.
“Aeth? I- What?” I mumble, still sleepy and confused.
“You’re gonna come back to the ghoul den, okay? You’ve been working too much, and we miss you.” He said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“But- Sister Imperator-” I start, looking around in slight confusion.
“Don’t worry about her. We’ll take care of it.” He smiles at me again, entering the common room. Putting me back on my feet, Aether shouts out to the others, alerting them of my presence.
Before I can do anything about it, I feel a strong pair of arms lift me up again, carrying me to the couch. I look up, being met with a toothy grin.
“Hi there, baby girl.” Swiss grins, sitting on the sofa and positioning me so my head is on his lap. Still sleepy, I look around, not really knowing what’s going on. I feel Swiss start to scratch my head gently with his claws, making me relax a bit.
“Mhm, that’s nice…” I mumble sleepily, letting my eyes close again.
I feel my legs be lifted up, then put back down. Opening my eyes again, I glance over to see Aether, who’s gently massaging my calves. Before I know it, Dew jumps on top of me, promptly snuggling his head into my neck, wrapping his arms around my waist, immediately purring.
“Oh, hey Dewy.” I chuckle sleepily. He responds by giving me a little squeeze and nuzzling into my neck.
Mountain walks in, ruffling my hair, as he sits down by Swiss’ legs, leaning against him. I smile at him, just accepting what I now knew was happening. A ghoul cuddle pile.
I hear excited chattering, I look up to see Cirrus and Cumulus walk in. They both grin at me and Cumulus settles down next to Swiss, leaning against him, and Cirrus plants herself on top of her. Then comes Rain and Phantom; they sit either side of Mountain, snuggling into him. Rain holds his hand up, clutching mine and giving it a little squeeze. I feel Dew raise his head slightly.
“Are you warm enough?” He asks, sounding tired himself.
“Yeah, but guys-” I start talking but am immediately interrupted by Dew snuggling his face back into my neck.
“Then sleep.” He mumbles simply.
I chuckle, finally giving into my tiredness. There’s no place I’d rather be than surrounded by my ghouls.
We’ll Meet Again
Alastor x GN! Reader
TW: Fluff! Alastor and Reader were lovers in life, soulmates, slight memory loss, brief mention of reader taking their life, a little OOC Alastor.
AN: I heard PARANOiD DJ’s take on Alastor singing We’ll Meet Again and just couldn’t help myself, it seemed far too perfect. While I know he says the song is “past his time” it felt too perfect. Please forgive any spelling or grammatical errors, otherwise! Enjoy! :)
You were delighted with the sound of someone playing the piano and humming as you left your room to start the day. You descended the stairs of the hotel to see the radio demon at the piano in the parlor, delighted to hear his skillful playing. It reminded you a lot of when you were alive. You moved closer to see him play and potentially talk and sing with him. You stood listening to him play for a while before he looked up to notice you had been lured in by his music.
“Ah! I didn’t see you there. Don’t be shy, make yourself comfortable” Alastor spoke as he played a little tune on the piano once again while speaking to you, his fingers dancing absentmindedly along the ivory keys. “You play?” You asked as you sat down next to him on the bench, making him chuckle at the rather obvious answer to your question, but he was delighted to see your recognition nonetheless. “Surprised? I’ve been known to tickle the ivories from time to time” he replied, a laugh track playing afterwards that you couldn’t help but giggle along with. “You make it look so effortlessly easy. I knew someone once who was extremely talented at playing and singing like you are” you responded, making him smile a little softer at the compliment and connection you had made. “Ahh there’s few things more entertaining than a good song, don’t you think?” He asked, making you hum and nod in agreement as you awaited to hear what he had in store to play for you. “I’m rather fond of this one! It’s a little after my time but it is such a…thoughtful melody” he added, emphasizing the word thoughtful as if the song had a more personal meaning to him. He cleared his throat before playing the soft melody, the crackling radio static filling the air for a moment before he continued and began to sing.
”We’ll meet again”
“Don’t know where”
”Don’t know when”
”But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day”
He began to sing, and your eyes widened a little at the lovely sound of his voice. For a demon you were shocked that he could have such an angelic voice, yet something about that song, something about that voice felt so…familiar. You couldn’t quite place it, perhaps you’d heard it in passing when you were alive?
“Keep smiling through”
“Just like you always do”
“Til the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away”
He continued to sing and you couldn’t help this festering feeling within you that you knew this song, that his voice sounded so familiar. Hearing him sing this brought you home, to back when you were alive. You closed your eyes for a moment as you reminisced on old times, a smile rising to your lips as you recounted the way you would lean over a piano with a loving smile and sing along to songs being played by your lover. He was a radio host back then, just like Alastor. You recounted the way his mother used to praise his skills and his voice and yours as you would sing together, the smell of her famous jambalaya filling the air. Strange how the face of your lover seemed to be a blur to you, it had been quite some time since you’d died, and unfortunately they had died before you did.
“And I will just say “Hello””
“To the folks that you know”
“Tell them you won’t be long”
“They’ll be happy to know”
“That as I saw you go”
“You were singing this song”
It was then that it clicked, the song he was singing was a song you used to sing quite often. You saw it, remembering the way you would visit your lover’s grave and sing to him as if he could hear you from beyond the mortal realm. It was the song you sang at his funeral as you comforted his loving mother who couldn’t bear the news that her son was gone and about to be lowered six feet below the cold dirt of the earth. You had visited his grave everyday, giving him life updates as you could, wishing, praying you could hear his voice again just one more time. You had hoped that perhaps in some way he could hear you until you could find one another again in the afterlife.
One day the sadness had just become far too much for your heart to bear, the depression and loneliness consuming you to the point you hardly could will yourself to leave the house unless it was to visit him. Hardly able to bring yourself to leave his tombstone in the cemetery once you had arrived, and in a flitting moment of pure heartbroken melancholy one evening, you took your own life. That was how you unfortunately got here, granted you didn’t live the purest life, your lover and you were partners in crime outside of your otherwise pure moments together at home. Then his face came to you, and in an instant the pieces all fell together in your mind. It was him. You had finally found your lover after so long spent apart and so long searching and yearning.
“We’ll meet again”
“Don’t know where”
“Don’t know when”
“But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day”
He began to hum the previous melody, tears coming to your eyes as you looked at him, finally understanding why that smile reminded you so much of someone. So much of home. He had been here before you for so long and it took just now to realize it. How you longed to cup his face and kiss him like you used to, or to simply hold him within your embrace after so long.
“We’ll meet again”
“Don’t know where”
”Don’t know when”
“But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day”
You finished the song with him as tears streamed down your face, the droplets landing along the ivory keys with a soft “plap” before looking to him. He smiled a little softer, his brows more relaxed as he heard you sing along, happy to see that you made the connections at last. Your singing was as angelic as he remembered. “Alastor…” you said in realization as he turned to you, seeing the tears in your eyes and the streams rolling down your soft cheeks, almost bringing tears to his own eyes. “Yes, Mon Cher?” He asked, making you smile at the usage of the nickname he would call you back when you were alive. “Why didn’t you ever tell me? That the one I’d been searching for all this time had been in front of me?” You asked, and truth be told, it was because he was scared you wouldn’t want to be with him anymore upon seeing what he had turned into, that perhaps you had no longer been in love with him, but he wouldn’t admit to that. “Because darling, I knew one day we’d meet again, and that one day it would all return to you in time” he said confidently, covering up the real answer as his arm came to circle around your waist and pull you to him. “Oh Alastor…how greatly I have missed you” you said, your hand coming up to cup his cheek tenderly, something that had it been anyone else, he would be disgusted. But this was you who was caressing his cheek with care, you who had been looking upon him so lovingly. For a moment he felt as if he had been alive again, back at his home in New Orleans with you by his side, singing with him as he played the piano. For a moment, it felt as if he had been granted a slice of heaven despite being in hell. You leaned forward to press your forehead against his, careful not to tangle your hair within his horns as he shut his eyes, a small tear lingering within his waterline.
For the first time in far too long, he finally felt at peace. At home.
“The Exoxins are very…” Coran purses his lips, searching for the word. “Particular, let’s say.”
Hunk cocks his head. “In what way?”
“They’re quite fixated on personal appearances. They have been known to refuse alliances in the past when diplomats don’t meet their… aesthetic expectations.”
Before Keith can make a slightly mean joke about keeping Shiro on the castle, then (it’s been too long since he has been humbled), Lance snorts. Without bothering to look up from his doodling, half slumped over his station on the bridge, he says, “Well, we better send Keefers. Only way we’ll get a guaranteed alliance.”
“Okay, asshole, real funn — wait.” Keith blinks. That’s not the insult he thought it was. “Did you just — are you flirting with me?”
Lance flicks brown eyes up to meet his, eyebrows raised, amused smirk on his face. “Have been for a year now, thanks for noticing.”
Keith’s jaw drops. He feels a blush climbing up his neck like he’s a fuckin’ kettle, boiling from the bottom up, because what.
“What.”
“Keith.” The rampant redness on Keith’s face must give Lance pause, because he finally turns his whole attention towards him, straightening up from his seat and facing him head on. “I thought you were just ignoring me. You’re telling me your dumb ass has just been — what, completely oblivious to it?”
“I’m not obvious,” Keith argues, strained. He’s well aware of the snickering behind him and chooses to ignore it. “Usually your flirting is horrible and obnoxious and gets you rightfully punched, so excuse me for not noticing.” He waits a beat, and then tacks on, “Or tied to a tree.”
He’s gratified to see Lance’s smug demeanour crack at the mention of the Nyma incident.
“That was four years ago, dipstick. I was seventeen. It doesn’t take away from the fact that you are so thick headed that you are incapable of taking a hint. Did you think I kept finding reasons to be shirtless around you for fun?”
Keith sputters. He had noticed that Lance was shirtless around him an awful lot, but in his defence he was putting his braincells more towards memorizing a broad back and a glittering belly piercing rather than, like, puzzling out why the fuck Lance wasn’t wearing a shirt.
“I thought you were — hot, or something!”
Lance grins wolfishly. “You think I’m hot?”
“Go fuck yourself!”
“Is that what you want to see?”
Keith makes a hoarse screeching noise in the back of his throat. It is echoed behind him, by all of his friends, actually, but for entirely different reasons, and he hates them all and they are all written out of his will.
Lance slowly stands from his seat, soundlessly stalking over to where Keith stands, leaning against a wall. Keith considers braining himself against a hard surface so he does not half to deal with Lance stupid sexy leer and sparkling eyes et cetera.
“‘Cause if it is,” Lance murmurs, placing a hand next to Keith’s head and leaning in close, “all you had to do was ask, baby.”
“I am going to kill you with fire,” Keith croaks.
Lance chuckles. “Sure, caliente.” He kisses Keith’s cheek and saunters back to his chair. Keith considers asking his lions to help him change his bayard into an anvil and chucking it at Lance’s face. It does not help his situation.
“Well,” Coran says awkwardly, after what can only be several minutes of charged silence. “the good news is that if we send you both that alliance is as good as guaranteed.”
Obviously we’ll learn more when TTPD comes out but I really think the Big Bad Thing that joe did to her was…nothing. When you love someone deeply, when you’ve spent years building a life with them, apathy and indifference is gonna hurt as much as, if not more than, big fights or cheating or whatever. At least with big blow ups you can see the obvious problems and and what could be fixed or why you can’t stay. A relationship that atrophies rather than implodes still feels like a betrayal - you are supposed to be my partner but feels like you stopped trying and stopped caring out of the blue. Nothing material has changed so you could convince me my unhappiness and desire to leave is an unfair overreaction. But the truth is people are always growing and changing and if both parties aren’t putting in the effort to grow in the same direction, they are going to grow apart. Being the only one in the relationship willing to put in that effort has to be excruciating.
『when he's on tour / MARK LEE』
A/N: thoughts on how mark would be as bf when he's away on tour :(
gifs used in this are not mine and they will be removed if requested!!
𝓖𝓮𝓷𝓻𝓮𝓼: fluff (♡), comedy (☼)
𝓦𝓪𝓻𝓷𝓲𝓷𝓰𝓼: i swear a bit maybe???
disclaimer: the characters in the story below do not reflect real people or present real facts. this is purely fictional, and you may not copy, change, translate or repost my work in any way. all rights reserved © lvlyhao 2023.
--------
Tumblr media
mark is usually pretty clingy with you already, but he turns it up to the max before a tour
being away from you like that is one of the parts about his job he hates the most, and yeah, he knew what he was signing up for since the beginning
but he can’t help but be heartbroken about it every. single. time
the other members know him well enough to give like a 2 weeks notice for him to get his shit together and spend as much time with you as humanly possible??
cus otherwise, he’ll get caught up in rehearsals, schedules and whatever else and then the day before they leave be like
“oh shit”
and if that’s the case we all know mark is gonna be miserable during the whole thing right lmao
yeah mom taeyong isn’t letting that happen
(again)
mark normally sees the time before a tour as an opportunity to check off a LOT of things from your couples bucket list
like, do you have any tv shows you’ve been meaning to watch together? you’re binging it today
you wanted to visit that coffee shop right? get your coat, you’re going rn
you wanted to buy matching bracelets yeah? he’s already got them
and it’s just a very fun, loving time for the both of you
it keeps you busy enough not to spiral about what it’s gonna be like not seeing each other for months
:)
of course, it doesn’t work 100% of the time
especially at night, when mark’s about to fall asleep, the loneliness of not having you around starts to seep in
and it’s like he says goodbye to you in his head before it happens irl
which is 1. sad as heck??? and 2. kinda suffering through it twice, cus he always thinks he’s gonna be more “well prepared” for it this time, and that’s never true
by now it’s probably pretty obvious touring is a very dramatic experience for him right lmao
johnny’s always like “bro it’s just a couple months you’re gonna be f i n e” but for mark it’s,,, not that simple
he’d rather say bye when it’s just the two of you, maybe at your place or somewhere nice
it feels a lot calmer when it’s like that, cus then it’s tight hugs, some kisses and mark saying he promises he’ll text you every day and call you as much as he can
and yeah maybe one of you lets a tear or two fall down but it’s fine
now
if you go with them to the airport
it’s gonna be so much more chaotic like holy crap, trust me, not going is the better option
if for some unknown reason you’re like “no i’ll go with you to catch the plane and we’ll say bye there”
there’s gonna be a lot more crying involved
cus it’s one thing hugging you bye when his flight’s in 6 hours or so, but it’s a whole other thing when everyone’s already boarding and some other member is trying very hard to be gentle but he has to go NOW
it’s all so rushed he can barely even tell you he loves you :(
mainly bc he wanted to keep hugging you until he absolutely had to let you go
oh well
mark is 10000% the type to ask you to put together a playlist for him to listen to during the trip
he can be a bit of an airhead at times but he does his best to keep you updated on how he’s doing, where he is right now, things of the sort
so he tries to text you the moment the plane lands, when they get to the hotel, when he’s eaten
and it’s not even just texts
it’s a cute candid selfie AND a text
now
mark is definitely not the best photographer in nct
but he will try so hard to take good pictures for you
cus all he wants is for you to feel like you’re there with him, seeing all those cool places
having said that, most pictures do turn out to be crappy
but he’s willing to ask for help from another member so it’s all good lmao
(i’m looking at johnny, jaemin or tyong tbh)
sends you a picture of every single dog or cat he sees
absolutely every single one
keeps a clock in your timezone in his phone so he knows the best times to text/call
speaking of calling
i’m sorry to tell you you’re not getting a one on one facetime session with him
it’s just not happening
like it may last 5 minutes tops, but that’s the time it takes for someone to hear your voice/barge into his room and immediately ask to talk to you
haechan, johnny, yukhei and baek do that a lot
but normally the other members follow lmao
it’s 50% to annoy him but 50% bc they genuinely wanna see you
it doesn’t bother you too much cus you know
they’re cute or whatever
he’s not really the type to get small trinkets from every place he goes to bc that’s just ??so much??
instead, he’ll probably get you one really nice gift
like this huge plushie he had to carry around himself on their way back home bc no one had enough space in their bags for it
or a new perfume he thinks you’ll like
i love him your honour
one last thing bc this is already way too long
mark is the KING of backstage pictures and TMI's about the other members
like at this point you have enough blackmail material to torture them for 6 months minimum
and tbh it’s mainly haechan when he’s with dream/127 and jongin with superm lol
but he keeps it varied
you end up with even some derpy jaehyun pics, best case scenario
he’s already making plans on how you are gonna celebrate him being back home
…and it most likely includes building a pillow fort and watching marvel movies but i didn’t tell you that
AAAAAAA the cow boy was so well made and adorable thank you very much!! I loved the little informations you dropped along the way regarding other farms, it made everything feel more alive!
If that’s alright can I make one more request? A yandere nerd with a fem reader, maybe reader saved the poor guy from some bullies and now he just keeps running after her like some lost puppy :( And at times he doesn’t have the courage for it he just spends all his time watching her from afar.
Maybe he’s a bit delusional as well and already imagined everything all the way to their wedding.
Also I feel like I’ll be active here quite a bit so can I be the 🌸 anon? So that it’ll be easier for me to find the stuff I requested
Thank you for requesting 🌸 anon, you’re my first named regular! Also, don’t be shy request more if you’d like. I like your ideas and it’s fun to bring them to life for you! I’m glad you like how I write them! I added the tag on your other request too!
description: yandere nerd, female reader, soft yandere, stalking, watching reader, he’s pretty tame, just a cute lil guy who wants to be your husband.
You heard voices down at the bottom of the stairs. You sighed assuming it was stupid couples getting handsy like always. There was never any announcements about it so couples got away with it, pretty often.
You were about to walk away until you heard clear voices that all sounded male. Way more than just two, that was weird. You got closer and heard a rather aggressive voice.
“Did you fucking purposely write the wrong answers so I’d copy?? You’re stupid as hell if you thought I wouldn’t find out afterwards!”
“I’m not letting you cheat off of me anymore! I’m gonna get in trouble and it’s wrong to cheat!” A soft male voice argued back with the agitated voice.
“Tch, we’ll see what you have to say after I beat the fucking life out of you. Grab his arms so he doesn’t move” The obvious attacker was about to beat him up, even telling his friends to hold him down.
“Hey! What the hell do you think you’re doing??” You ran down the stairs and confronted the group of three boys who were teaming up on one.
“Who the hell are you?” What you assumed was the leader turned around and gave you the meanest glare you’ve ever seen directed towards you before.
“Leave before I fucking tell the principal you’re causin’ trouble again” You knew he had run into trouble enough that the next big punishment was sure to get him expelled. You used that your advantage despite it still being risky to confront such a intimidating group.
“Fucking snitch, Cmon, let’s go. This chick obviously doesn’t have a life” He made an annoyed hiss, obviously pissed off that someone had ruined his revenge beating.
They cleared the area and now the guy sat against the wall was safe. You were glad you were there before he got hurt. You had no clue that bullying was actually going on in the school. You had never seen it before so you never thought it happened.
“Hey, are you okay?” You offered your hand towards the poor guy, hoping he didn’t get hurt before you stepped in.
“Y..yeah! Thank you..” He grabbed your hand and you helped him up. He looked a little familiar but you didn’t know who he was. Maybe he was in one of your classes.
“What was that all about anyways? Those guys were about to beat you up over some test answers? Geez, people are really fucked up now, huh?” You noticed he had red cheeks and you quickly worried.
Did they hit him before you interrupted? Was he okay?
“Are you okay? Your face is red! Did they hit you anywhere?” You cupped his face with both of your hands and moving his glasses on top of his head to scan all of his face. His face only seemed to reddened even more!
“I- I’m okay! They didn’t hit me!“ He rambled on about his perfect health, he was so flustered!! Your face was so close and he could hardly breathe. He had never been so close to a girl before! Especially not one as gorgeous and brave like you!
“Oh, good. If they ever bother you again, tell me! I’ll snitch on those fuckers. I don’t care if people bitch about it” You sighed in relief that he was okay and stepped back. He placed his glasses back on, his vision becoming clearer.
“Thank you.. You’re really brave! For standing up to them.. I mean I couldn’t do that” He laughed his cowardly trait off even thought he was a little embarrassed.
“It’s understandable though, three on one is not fair. It just shows how weak they are. What’s your name anyways, you look familiar” You smiled at him, happy that he was okay and laughing.
“My name is Kyosuke, I’m really happy that you stood up for me. I hope we can be friends!” He bowed and looked up with the cutest smile you’ve ever seen! He was adorable!
You shared your name and complimented his. You had to go though, the bell rung as soon as the words left your mouth. The both of you departed ways after exchanging your goodbyes and left to class.
You were happy you go to do something nice for someone. It was always a nice feeling to help a person in a dire situation. You were hoping you could see him again and become friends like he said!
You had no clue that he planned the same! Even going as far to follow you to all your clases; the next day, hidden in the crowds of students to see what your schedule was. He found out he had his last class with you, he knew you looked familiar!
You were across the room though, which made him a little sad. Maybe he’d could ask the teacher to move him next to you or ask for a new seating chart. He blushed at the thought of seeing you at the end of the day sitting next to him! It made him so giddy to even think about it!
The bell rang throughout the school and you picked up your bag to start heading home. You never had anything to do after-school. Clubs weren’t your thing but the ocasional stop to the gas station was fun.
Kyosuke wanted to approach you, so badly but he was too nervous to calm down his sudden feelings about you. Maybe tomorrow he would approach you and ask if you wanted to eat lunch together? He blushed imagining how eating lunch with you would be so intimate. Sitting next to each other, sharing food, like a couple!
You left the classroom hastily like everyone else, making it outside of school. You always walked home since your house wasn’t too far. You had no clue that your admirer tagged along as well.
You never assumed someone would be so infatuated with you, let alone follow you home. He managed to go undetected and closely watch you. He remembered every turn you did, every road you crossed, everything. He wanted to remember the path so he could follow you safely home everyday. It was good you didn’t live far away!
You threw your book-bag on your couch and went into the kitchen to go find a snack. You rummaged around, unaware of Kyosuke following you to your home. He was going to leave! He swore! But he really wanted to see what you did after-school.
He was just so interested about you now. He wanted to know everything just incase it would help him approach you easier. Maybe you liked a game and he could talk to you about it? Or a hobby!
He peeked through your kitchen window, covered in leaves from the bushes that surrounded your house. He moved some branches to clearly see you making yourself something to eat.
He pondered whether you liked to cook or not, maybe you’d like it if he made you something? You didn’t seem like a cooking person since he didn’t see any ingredients or spices around on your counters. Maybe you’d love a homemade lunch for him! As if he was your boyfriend!
The next day came by and you shut your locker, grabbing the lunch you brought for school today. You weren’t up for school lunch so you made yourself some food! It was rice with eggs and some fruit, pretty plain but still delicious.
You bumped into a familiar face, thinking it was one of your friends; you were quick to help the person up. It was Kyosuke though! The cute little nerd you helped yesterday.
“Hey Kyo! Sorry, I didn’t see you there” You smiled, still carefully holding your bag and lunch. You thought he was pretty adorable, you had never seen him before but you were glad you were able to help him.
“Hello! I was actually trying to see you today, I wanted to properly thank you for helping me. So.. I made you lunch!” He shyly brought out a container filled with delicious looking food, much more delicious then the food you had in your hands. He was too distracted with giving you the lunch to realize the nickname you gave him.
“Oh! I already made myself lunch though” You were caught by surprised that he still remembered who you were. You didn’t think you made a big impression other than someone who helped him out.
“Ah… never-mind then! I didn’t realize you made your own lunch” His smile hastily pulled into frown now seeing that you wouldn’t eat the homemade lunch he spent so long making for you. He got up super early to make sure it would be perfect.
“I was planning to sit outside since the weather is nice, why don’t we go share our lunches?” You were quick to comfort his sadness. His frown made you feel so guilty! It was almost like upsetting a poor puppy.
“Okay!” Kyosuke nodded happily. His plan was to give you the homemade lunch and hope you would ask for more so then he would be cooking for you everyday! But eating lunch with you was good too!
The two of you made your way to the courtyard of the school, the weather was nice, and the trees had perfect shade to sit under. Sure, you could sit on a bench but wouldn’t it be better to sit under a tree on the soft grass?
You opened up your container of food, the food seeming much more bland next to the well cooked food that he opened up.
“Try it! I was really excited to make this for you. I woke up early in the morning” He giggled pulling out silverware for you to use while you ate. You grabbed it and placed your container on your lap so it wouldn’t fall while you tried his food.
You grabbed a spoonful and the flavors melted into your mouth, your eyes lit up and letting out a excited noise of surprise at the taste. You mumbled your gratitude with a mouthful of the dish. He grinned while tilting his head; not understanding. He found it funny though. Once he got that you were saying thank you he insisted it was no problem.
“Can I have some of yours? It looks good too” He pointed to your untouched food. You nodded scooping more food into your mouth that he gave you. You grabbed the container with your free hand and handed it to him.
Kyosuke ate some of the rice and eggs and enjoyed it. You thought for sure he wouldn’t enjoy it as much as your cooking, from the taste of his food it seemed like he was a Michelin star chef. He could argue the opposite though.
Eating out of your lunch box, it felt like the two of you were close! He couldn’t help but gush over the fact that he was eating your cooking! Cooking that was intended for yourself but you graciously gave to him. You were so nice he couldn’t help but fall for you.
When the two of you get married, he could pack lunch everyday for you. He could be your husband who stays at home, keeping the house tidy and clean for his beautiful wife. The perfect balance in a relationship.
That would be his major plan after this! To have you as his wife, and keep you happy and full with his cooking. Maybe even have a kid or two if you wanted! He tried hiding his blush at his imagination running wild.
“Your cooking is good! If I knew you were such a good cook I would have you make me lunches everyday” You beamed, now able to talk without a mouthful of food.
“I could if you’d like to! I always have extra food that I just put in the fridge, so maybe… I could cook for you everyday” He shyly offered, he knew you weren’t being serious but maybe you’d accept his offer? He never cooked for anyone else other than himself but to make food for you everyday.. that would be amazing! It was exactly how he planned!
“I was joking! But if you’re offering I’d love to eat the extra food you have” You looked at him, excited hearing his words.
“Yay! What would you like me to cook next!” Kyosuke got giddy thinking of the ability to please you everyday with one of his best skills! He never knew cooking would bring him closer to a beautiful girl like you.
“Hmm.. how about sushi!” The thought of sushi for lunch would be amazing, your stomach practically craved it now that you thought about it.
“I can do that!” He was excited and would definitely go shopping after-school to get the ingredients for it.
The two of you ate under the beautiful tree that flowed when the wind guided it a certain direction. It was a nice afternoon, to be sharing lunches with a lover friend!
✩ ˛˚ . ITOSHI SAE ; — sae still finds himself a little homesick, but home is beginning to look a little different than before.
warnings: fluff, no warnings! note: i’m still trying to get a feel for his characterisation so bare with! i wanna write for him more though sob :3
Tumblr media
sae would be lying if he said he didn’t get homesick.
despite his usual stoic and unbothered exterior, he’d still moved across the world completely alone — chasing a dream, happiness. it had been daunting at first, he can still remember the way the silence settled in his hotel room on his first night and how empty his first apartment felt, quiet.. a little lonely.
he had a family in japan, friends and despite his rocky relationship with his brother rin it was charming the way he still seemed to instantly reply to his texts. he’d never admit he missed him, neither would but the sort of blunt back and forth of one word answers and short questions was still a little like home.
sae’s body feels heavier today and it’s these sort of days that he finds himself reminiscing as he trudges up the steps of his apartment complex, training bag slung over his shoulders and his jacket zipped up to his chin. he’s maybe a little too short tempered to listen to his agent ramble on in his ear right now, pressing his phone closer before he sighs with his next long blink.
he’s tired, miserably so and he wants nothing more than to just collapse on his couch for the rest of the night. he reaches his floor, gives himself a few moments at the top of the stairs before he’s taking another step and his agent is still going on about contracts, sponsor deals, dinners that he’d rather die than attend.
“i’m not doing that.” sae eventually replies, his voice is low and it feels like the first time he’s spoke all day when he feels the familiar scratch in his throat. he stops at his apartment just as he hears his agent panic to convince him to attend this dinner, rambling on about the importance of showing face and the benefit of the publicity.
but his key turns in the door before it opens and suddenly he’s not focused on anything else except the soft hum of music, “we’ll talk about it later.”
sae suddenly feels lighter with his first careful step into his apartment after he shrugs his shoes off at the door, opting to drop his training bag at his feet instead of emptying it in his room like he normally would.
he crosses the room but then he chooses to settle in the doorway of the kitchen when the source of the sound finally comes into view. there’s you, soaked to your elbows in bubbles from the sink as you wipe down his dishes from this morning and he recognises the soft hum of the tune from your lips as the song that was playing on the radio as he drove home.
you peer at him from over your shoulder when the floorboard creaks under his feet and you’ll still see the hello in his eyes before he’s pushing himself closer, falling into his place as his shoulder knocks against yours. “what’re you doing?” he’ll ask even though it’s obvious but it’s been a while since he’s heard the sound of your voice.
“welcome home.” you coo, deliberately sweet and honeyed and you think it’s amusing the way he rolls his eyes at you despite the way he’s kissing you once on the cheek when you lean in. another on your forehead, then on your lips when you puff your cheeks and the tension in his shoulders drops when he catches the smell of your hair that’s grown so familiar to him by now.
itoshi sae had always been the face on the billboard, the child next doors role model and a life of practice interviews that you watch on the screen — slicked up hair that frames his features just right and a silent sort of confidence that proves it doesn’t have to be flashy to be known.
but to you, he was the face you wake up to every morning when his hair is still down and he’ll huff everytime you curl yourself closer telling him it looks cuter that way. he’s the kind of person that’ll pinch your cheeks to stop you teasing him but press a kiss to your lips anyway, and you were aware of the soft spot the midfielder held for you that you’re sure his manager would appreciate from time to time.
“you look tired.” you giggle, teasing and sae sends you a look that really is a little sleepy before your hands are reaching out from the water to reach at him instead.
“i’m always tired after practice.” he sends you a deadpan expression before he’s leaning away from you, grabbing your wrist gently as he frowns at the bubbles that drip from your hands. “gross,” rolling his eyes and opting to dry you off himself.
”you’re always so grumpy before your nap. you can just admit you missed me.” it’s amusing to be able to poke at sae like this, if it was anyone else he'd have torn into them long ago. but it’s you, and he thinks it’s annoying the way any irritation in his bones seems to melt with your own cheeky grin.
“no,” he replies quickly, indifferent expression on his face despite the way he pulls your arms around his shoulders after he’s finished drying you off. letting his own fall naturally into your waist as they push up your shirt to rest on your skin and he tilts his head at you.
“are you sure? i’m pretty sure your texts say otherwise.”
“you’re annoying,”
“you love it though.” sae feels his ears burn with slight embarrassment, maybe it’s because he can’t deny that. but he still lets you nuzzle into the crook of his neck as he huffs, feeling your fingers squeeze at his shoulders as he lets his own trace along the length of your spine before he pulls you closer.
“shutup, i’m tired.” homesick, but he can acknowledge the change because suddenly, he found himself missing the press of your fingertips on his skin every morning and the sound of you humming as you wash the dishes in his apartment.
but he doesn’t know when the shapes he was tracing in your skin began spelling out i love you, gradual rather than all at once but he’s never been so sure of anything in his life.
home wasn’t a place anymore because even if he’s already groaning at the thought of that sponsorship dinner in a few weeks, when he sees you he forgets.
sae’s aware he’s just in the kitchen of his argentina apartment, your hands are still a little damp at the base of his neck, tracing along the jewellery that lays across his skin. but your laugh sounds warm and pretty when he squeezes at your waist, just enough to start a laughing fit that serves as a little payback for teasing him, before he’s kissing you once and hoping you feel how much he missed you today without him saying it because he does love you.
maybe home’s started to look a little different than before.
𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃'𝐕𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐆
Tumblr media
pairing: steve harrington x fem!reader
word count: 4.8k words
summary: in which a mutual wingman situation forces two strangers to talk to one another. both you and steve are only doing it to help your friends, but it surprises you how effortless talking to him is. simply the idea of love or even deeply liking someone has always made you nervous and scared, and would usually lead you to running away rather than facing your feelings. but, maybe it’s this unfamiliar comfort you find yourself quickly having with steve that can make you finally want to do the opposite of run and actually dive headfirst into what you’re feeling
warnings: explicit language, some drinking, a lil fluff, kissing, implied smut, overall just a fun time
author’s note: first time in a while writing something that is not full of angst and sadness lmao anyway hope y’all enjoy this!<333
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
Steve’s POV
He looked at you from across the bar where you were talking and laughing with your friend. He wasn’t sure what he would say to you. There was something about you that seemed too good for him; the little black dress you were wearing with a slightly oversized jacket on top and the sweet smile on your lips as you animatedly talked to your friend.
It made him not want to say anything to you because it felt like a rejection would be in his imminent future. However, Robin had other plans.
“She’s so cute,” She said but was referring to your friend. “You have to wingman for me and talk to her friend while I talk to her, Harrington.” When she noticed Steve’s hesitance, she continued. “What are best friends for, if not helping the other one get laid?”
He rolled his eyes at that and didn’t say anything.
Robin nudged him lightly. “Also, I’m pretty sure the friend is straight and she’s really cute too, so maybe you’ll have a chance.”
Finally, Steve said something. “Exactly. She’s so hot and I can already see myself fucking up under the pressure.” He took another quick glance in your direction.
Robin gave him a soft pat on the shoulder. “I take back everything I ever said about your lack of charm. Those days at Scoops are far behind us. You’re the best flirt I know.”
Steve was quick to take notice of the grimace she was trying to hide behind her forced smile. “Did it actually pain you to say that?”
“A little bit, yeah,” She said with a small laugh. “But, anyway, let’s get another drink, and then we’ll go over there and you’ll be fine. I pro– Wait, shit, shit. They’re walking over here. Toward us.”
Before Robin could narrate any further, you went up to Steve while your friend pulled Robin in for a conversation.
You pointed at him. “I almost wore that tonight.”
Even though he knew you were joking, he still glanced down at the jeans and navy blue t-shirt he was wearing over a dark denim jacket. “Good thing you didn’t. One of us would’ve had to leave.”
“Exactly,” You said with a nod. “And that probably would’ve been so awkward for you.”
“Why would I be the one to leave?”
You shrugged. “I mean I think it would be the obvious choice.”
“I think I’m a very valuable asset to have here,” He said. “But, I’m also a gentleman, so I would have left, no questions asked.”
“Very, very honorable of you,” You said and then took a sip from the drink in your hand. Steve could see you trying to hide your smile. All too quickly his nerves from before managed to slip away.
He nodded his head toward the glass in your hand. “What are you drinking?”
“Vodka cranberry,” You answered before taking another quick sip. “Absolutely horrific but it usually does the job.” You then took notice of the drink in his hand. “Definitely not as horrific as that beer, though.”
“Hey, you can’t go wrong with a simple beer,” He said, pretending to be much more offended by your statement than he actually was.
“I think it is very wrong, actually,” You told him. “But, I’m a sweet and nice person, so I won’t judge you any further, even though there is a lot more I could say about that beer.”
Steve smiled at that. “Very honorable of you.”
A brief lull of silence prevailed for a moment and Steve almost decided to randomly mention how he actually never had a vodka cranberry before, but you started speaking before he could.
“Okay, full transparency, my friend is interested in your friend, and I’m just trying to be a good friend and wingwoman for her by talking to you.”
Steve laughed a bit. “I was tasked with doing the same thing, actually.”
“Wow,” You responded with a small laugh of your own. “They’re both interested in each other, so I guess our jobs are already done.”
A small smirk played on Steve’s lips. “Shall we get beers to celebrate a job well done?”
After inwardly cringing at the thought of drinking a beer, you couldn’t help but laugh loudly at Steve’s offer. “You’re the worst.”
“You want another vodka cranberry instead?”
“I will happily take that.”
He signaled the bartender and ordered the simple drink. As the two of you waited, he turned to look at you.
“I’m Steve, by the way,” He said and then pointed in the direction of where Robin and your friend were now happily talking to one another about ten feet away. “And that’s Robin.”
“Y/N,” You said and then gestured toward your friend. “And Marissa.”
The bartender slid you your drink and you smiled in thanks before grabbing it.
“Are you from Indianapolis?” Steve asked.
“No, I moved here from Illinois for a job about a year ago,” You answered and then took another sip from the glass in your hand. “And to be closer to my boyfriend too.”
Steve pretended that he was unfazed by your casual mention of having a boyfriend, even though he was very much fazed by it. He came to the quick conclusion that the playful banter you two shared was just that, playful banter. There actually weren’t any flirty undertones to it, although he could’ve sworn they were right there.
“What’s your job?” He asked, even though he wanted to say, “So, tell me more about your boyfriend” because he now wanted to torture himself and hear more about the guy.
“It’s in marketing. Specifically, working on pitches and ads for different clothing brands.”
“Was that–” Before he could finish asking if that’s what you always wanted to do, Marissa was suddenly in front of the two of you and grabbing your hand.
“So sorry to interrupt, I’m just gonna steal her for a quick second.”
Y/N’s POV
You were pulled to a different part of the bar, maybe only fifteen feet away from Steve, and you could see him and Robin now talking.
“Everything’s going great and she’s so cool and funny,” Marissa told you, a wide smile on her face as she spoke. You hadn’t seen her this giddy about someone in a while, so you felt really happy for her and couldn’t help but smile back. “We wanna go to the roller rink down the street that closes at two. Since we both suck at skating we thought it could be funny to do it together.”
“Okay, that’s great and kind of disgustingly cute,” You responded, still smiling because there was something about Marissa’s happiness that felt contagious. “So, now that my work here is done, I’m just gonna head back to the apartment. Car keys, please?”
“No.”
“What? I promise I’m so sober right now that it’s actually kind of sad,” You assured her. “I only had one full drink and barely a few sips of the other.”
“No, I mean you have to come too just in case something weird happens or I say something stupid and fuck things up and need to get out of there easily,” She explained, and due to her overthinker personality, you could actually understand that reasoning. “Plus she’s gonna make her friend come too, and you guys seemed like you were actually having a good time talking. Maybe it can turn into something a little less friendly, like, hopefully, me and Robin?”
“That might be a little impossible because I already lied and told him I had a boyfriend.”
“Why did you say that?” She asked and you were at a loss for words after hearing her question, because you actually weren’t entirely sure why you lied. You were quiet for too long, which made Marissa follow up with another question. “Oh, is he weird?”
“No, no,” You responded almost immediately. In fact, Steve was pretty much the opposite of weird, he was actually kind of funny and nice. And the almost effortless banter you two managed to share slightly surprised you. “I don’t know why I said it, it was just like a reflex.”
“We gotta talk about this self-sabotage thing you do soon,” She said, and it was in honest moments like that where you were read like a book, that you didn’t like that you’d known your best friend for almost your entire life and that she was currently getting her Masters in Psychology. “Actually, in one of my classes–”
“Nope, nope, nope,” You were quick to interrupt her. “I love you, but I’d rather not be psychoanalyzed tonight.”
“We’ll table that conversation for an early Sunday morning talk over coffee,” Marissa told you, and before you could protest that idea, she continued. “But, anyway, so you’re coming to the roller rink, right?”
After taking a quick glance over at where Steve and Robin were talking to one another, you nodded your head. “Yes, but this feels slightly like a hostage situation.”
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
You and Steve trailed a bit behind Robin and Marissa as you all walked down the street to the skating rink. It wasn’t that cold out, but you could still feel some goosebumps rising on your bare legs.
“Okay, scale from zero to ten,” You started and looked at Steve. “How good are your roller skating skills?”
“I’d say a solid nine. I can’t do any crazy tricks or whatever, but I never fall,” He answered. “You?”
“I’m definitely a two or three. I somehow fall way too easily,” You told him. “So to save myself from a shit ton of embarrassment, I’m not gonna skate tonight. But, I will cheer you all on from the sidelines.”
Steve shook his head at your words. “Since we’re both the extra wheels in this equation we gotta stick together, so I won’t skate either. It’ll be entertaining watching them fumble around, though. Robin’s probably one of the clumsiest people I know. Is Marissa good?”
“She’s just as bad as me,” You answered and then smiled. “So, yes, this will be very entertaining to watch.”
The two of you were sitting on a bench, watching Marissa and Robin hold hands and go around and around the wooden rink. You and Steve couldn’t help but laugh every time one of them stumbled and grabbed onto the other to regain balance or when they both simultaneously stumbled and then fell completely. But it felt okay to laugh at them because they were laughing loudly at themselves.
“They are so into each other, it’s kind of insane,” You said with a wistful smile as you popped some skittles in your mouth; you had gotten a pack from the vending machine that was by the entrance. You held it toward Steve in a silent offering and when he opened his palm toward you, you poured some into his cupped hand.
“Yeah, they’re disgustingly cute,” Steve responded as he ate the skittles you gave him. “They also probably wouldn’t even notice if we left right now.”
“That’s so true,” You told him, and then almost immediately remembered something. “Wait, shit. Marissa has the car keys, so I can’t even drive home.”
“I can drive you.”
Steve was still practically a stranger to you, so it probably would’ve made more sense for you to say no to him, but you found yourself not wanting to say no to his offer. And you promptly decided that you would not think about why you felt that way.
“Okay,” You said with a nod and got up from the bench you two were sitting on, and then adjusted your dress which had ridden up a bit.
The two of you finished off the rest of the skittles as you walked back toward the bar and headed to the small parking lot that was attached to it.
You stepped into Steve’s car and got comfortable in the passenger seat. “Okay, so feel free to say no, but I’m kinda hungry and those skittles weren’t enough, and McDonald's sounds like both a very bad idea but also a very good one right now.”
Steve laughed at that. “I think it's a great idea. And I’m pretty sure there’s one that’s five minutes away.”
“That’s the exact reason why it was on my mind,” You said with a smile and buckled your seatbelt as Steve began driving.
Barely fifteen minutes later, you two were sat in the McDonald’s parking lot eating burgers and fries in Steve’s car. It was quiet, which made sense since you were both enjoying the fast food that would probably murder your stomachs later, and the only sound filling the car aside from the chewing noises was the random songs playing on the radio.
You were suddenly hit with the realization that you had never been this comfortable around a guy before. If the circumstances were different, and if it wasn’t Steve sitting next to you right then, you knew that you would’ve been so much more self-conscious about the way you were eating and if you were doing it too “messily.” And you also knew that you’d be so much more worried about the silence because it had never felt this relaxed with someone that you barely knew before.
“I lied earlier,” You abruptly said as you ate one of the few stray fries you had left.
“About what?”
You could feel his gaze on you, but you refused to meet his eyes right then because you had a feeling you’d get all flustered if you did, so instead, you kept your eyes trained forward as you answered his question. “I, um, I actually don’t have a boyfriend.”
Steve was quiet for a few moments and you wondered if he was mad at you for lying to him. When you finally forced yourself to look at him, you saw that he was smiling.
You let out a small laugh. “Damn, don’t look so happy that I’m actually single and alone.”
“No, it’s not that, it’s just… I don’t know,” Steve trailed off for a second and you looked at him with confused eyes until he said his next words. “I’m glad that it was a lie.”
You didn’t push him further on what he meant by that, mainly because a large part of you felt like you could easily read between those lines, and you couldn’t help but smile a little.
You simply hummed in response and grabbed your soda from the cup holder and took a sip from what was barely left of it.
When you placed it back down, you glanced at Steve. “I’m just now realizing how shit my small talk skills are because I never reciprocated and asked you if you’re from here or not.”
“I’ve definitely been thinking about that the entire time we’ve been together,” He told you, and you could hear the joking undertones in his voice. “Something like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe she doesn’t care about my life story. She probably hates me.’”
You laughed despite yourself. “Stop, I really do feel bad. Also, if I did hate you, you’d definitely know it, and I probably wouldn’t be in a car with you right now.”
“Okay, glad to know you like me.”
“Indifference is also not hate, just so you know.”
He placed a hand over his chest in mock offense. “Ouch.”
“I’m fully kidding. You just set me up too perfectly for that one.” A small laugh fell from your lips. “Anyway, tell me your life story because I do care.”
Steve smiled at that. “I’m not from Indianapolis, but I am from Indiana. Me and Robin used to live in a small town called Hawkins. It’s maybe like two or three hours from here.”
“Why’d you guys come here?”
“Just wanted a change, I guess.”
You turned your head to look at him and he immediately met your gaze. “That answer had the perfect amount of vagueness.”
Steve was quiet for a moment and then he smirked at you. “I actually moved here to be closer to my girlfriend.”
“The fake boyfriend or girlfriend card can only be used once in a conversation, and since I already used it you gotta give me something else,” You told him, your voice completely serious even though you were trying your hardest not to laugh.
“Oh sorry, I meant wife, actually.”
You couldn’t help but laugh that time. “Okay, I’ll allow that.”
He smiled. “Thank you.”
“Hm, but it’s pretty weird to be alone in a car with a random girl when you have a wife at home.”
“She likes when I put myself out there,” He said with a small shrug.
It was entirely too hard to hide your amused smile, but you still broke eye contact with him and looked straight ahead as you bit your lip to do so. “Very interesting dynamic you two have.”
“Yeah, it works well for us, though.” He nodded and then changed the subject. “Okay, this is random and a completely different topic from me and my fictional wife, but I wanted to ask you this earlier. With your job, the marketing and clothing stuff, was that always what you wanted to do?”
Hearing him ask you about your job slightly surprised you because it had been such a brief part of your conversation earlier that you barely even remembered telling it to him. Your eyes met his again.
“I don’t know. Honestly, not really. It was one of the things that kind of just… happened? When the opportunity fell into my lap I didn’t wanna say no to it, and I really love the job, actually,” You explained, keeping your answer brief and somewhat to the point because there was a lot more that you could’ve said to him about how you ended up where you currently were job-wise.
Like how you’d felt as if you had been in such a rut in your life before you met Louisa, your now boss, at the coffee shop that you worked at in your hometown. And how she ultimately offered you the job on a random Wednesday after you gave her her usual coffee and then when noticing how irritated she looked as she stared at a campaign that her team had been working on for the past few weeks, you stated that the font should be changed and the slogan should be reworked too, and then offered a suggestion for a new slogan that was near perfect in her eyes. You solved the problem she’d been having for days with such ease that it slightly took her aback and she offered you the job right then and there. And the opportunity kind of felt a little too perfect because even though it was in a different state, you were completely ready for a change and Marissa was already in Indianapolis for college.
But you didn’t want to ramble too much to Steve right then.
“Although, it probably doesn’t look like I work with clothes because this outfit kinda sucks.” You then smiled at him. “I should’ve just worn yours like I initially wanted to tonight.”
He let out a small laugh. “What you’re wearing definitely does not suck, it was one of the reasons why I was so nervous to talk to you tonight.”
You had to roll your eyes at that because you fully did not believe him. “Oh, whatever.”
“I’m completely serious,” He told you. “When Robin noticed Marissa and then pointed you out too, I immediately thought you were way too good for me, and my brain shut off completely. It’s a very good thing you guys came up to us because my initial words to you probably would’ve been something very stupid.”
“You thought I was too good for you?” Your words had come out sounding completely confused and a little amused because you were certain that he had to be joking.
“There was just something about you. Really cool, very hot, a little intimidating.”
You pretended as if you were entirely unfazed by the “very hot” comment, although it made your heart constrict. “What about now? Do you still think I’m “too good”?”
“Oh, definitely.” There was so much certainty behind his two words that you actually felt kinda flattered; mostly confused, but also a little flattered.
“Sorry to disappoint, but I’m probably the opposite of too good,” You said and before he could potentially rebuttal your statement, you continued and slightly shifted the subject. “What about you, though? What’s your job or whatever you do?”
“My dad set me up with this job at his friend’s company here,” Steve answered, his voice was softer, almost as if he was slightly embarrassed by his answer. “Probably one of the only good things he’s ever done for me. But, I do think his main motive was to just get me out of the house; which I was honestly very happy to do.”
“Another person with parent issues. Glad to know we always somehow manage to find each other. Mine’s with my mom, though,” You said, cracking a small smile and Steve smiled back at you. “But, anyway, do you like the job?”
He was quick to shake his head. “It’s really corporate and feels a little useless.”
You nodded understandingly at his answer. “Do you know what you wanna do instead?”
Steve was quiet for a few moments and you could tell from the look on his face that he was truly thinking about his answer. “The last few years have been really weird, to say the least, and I had no time to really think about the future. But now that I can, I’m still trying to figure out what I want.”
There was something about the way he briefly talked about whatever he had gone through back home that told you that he didn’t want to delve further into an explanation about it, at least not right then. So, you didn’t ask him to elaborate, even though you were really curious.
“You’ll figure it out,” You said instead. “Sometimes it’s the random opportunity that falls into your lap that makes you realize exactly what you want and what actually makes you happy.”
What you didn't say, but did realize in that moment, was that maybe he was the “random opportunity” that had fallen into your lap that night.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
Hours passed and the two of you kept talking and couldn’t seem to stop. Midnight turned to one in the morning and then one in the morning turned to two, and you were still sitting in Steve’s car, laughing and talking about nothing but also everything.
Something about this moment with him felt significant to you. Like the start of something new, something good. And of course, that scared you a lot, for the same reason you had lied to him earlier about having a boyfriend. But, for the first time in a long time, you felt scared in a good way, if that was even possible.
You ended up in the parking lot of your apartment building around two-thirty with plans to finally say goodnight to one another. However, you felt so comfortable in his car and with Steve that you found it hard to make yourself leave, even though you were slowly getting more and more tired and Steve easily noticed it.
“You’re falling asleep.”
You turned to him, head still resting against the headrest and eyes still shut. “Only a little bit.”
“Let me walk you upstairs.”
You didn’t necessarily want to leave, but you still gave Steve a small nod because you did feel like you were going to fully pass out at any moment. “Okay. But, you might immediately regret coming up because the elevator in the building is broken and I’m on the fifth floor.”
“That’s fine. My years of being a high school athlete have prepared me for this moment.”
“Well, in that case, can I request a piggyback ride because I didn’t play sports in school, and I easily get winded walking up these stairs.”
“I know you’re probably joking but I would happily do that.”
You almost responded with “Piggyback rides are no joking matter,” even though you definitely were joking, but when you finally opened your eyes and noticed the soft smile that Steve was giving you, you immediately felt flustered.
Fuck, you really liked him, and maybe it should’ve been the hours of nonstop conversation and laughter that told you that, but instead, it was him smiling at you like no guy ever had before and practically offering to give you a piggyback ride up five flights of stairs that let you know just how in deep you already were.
“I don’t think your wife would approve of that,” You finally said and Steve laughed.
“Yeah, you’re right.”
When the two of you were standing in front of your apartment door, following the trek up the stairs that managed to only slightly wind you, you looked at Steve.
“Thanks for the ride and the food and yeah… Just thanks for everything that happened tonight, really.” It surprised you how nervous you were right then, and if Steve noticed your nervousness, he didn’t make it seem like he did.
“Thank you for everything too. Those skittles were great,” He said and you couldn’t help but smile at that.
You moved toward your door, but before putting your key in it and saying a final goodbye to Steve, you abruptly turned around and let your mouth move quicker than your brain.
“Can I try something really quick?”
A confused look crossed his face. “Okay?”
You moved closer to him, closing the barely there space between you two, and placed a hand on his cheek. Your other hand found his shoulder and you pushed yourself up on your toes a bit so that you could softly slot your lips against his. You had absolutely no idea where this sudden burst of confidence was coming from, but, at that moment, you forced yourself not to question it and instead jump headfirst into your feelings.
It was easy to tell that Steve was surprised by the kiss, and you almost pulled away and apologized profusely for doing it, but then something switched in a matter of milliseconds and he was oh so quickly kissing you back. Hands found your waist, and you could feel the warmth radiating from his touch through the thin material of your dress.
You were softly pressed against the door as Steve deepened the kiss, and your hands moved and found home in the hair at the nape of his neck. Everything about that moment felt easy; easy and right. Your mouths moved against each other almost as if it was second nature and it almost upset you how this had not happened sooner because of how right it was. So fucking right.
And this quickly became one of those moments that you wanted to be etched in your memory forever while simultaneously never wanting it to end in the first place.
When you finally pulled away, mainly to catch your breath, you looked up at him and smiled. “You taste like onions.”
“So do you. Maybe that McDonald’s really was a bad idea.”
Steve was looking at you so sweetly that it made you want to kiss him again and then a thousand more times after that. However, before you could even get that second kiss in, the door opened behind you.
You yelped at the sudden action and Steve’s hands immediately tightened on your waist so that you wouldn’t fall back.
“Oh, shit, my bad.”
It was Robin’s voice and you were confused to see her right then, standing in your doorway, until you noticed Marissa a bit behind her and the slightly disheveled states they were both in. You didn’t want to think about what they had just finished doing. You were also surprised that you didn’t notice Marissa’s car in the parking lot, but your thoughts had mainly been on Steve, so it slightly made sense.
“Wow, perfect timing, Harrington,” Robin said, and then saw the close proximity between you and Steve. “Unless you two were…?”
“No, we were just saying goodnight,” You told her and then turned to Steve, letting your hands fall from where they were still wrapped around the back of his neck. “Goodnight.”
Instead of initially responding with a simple goodnight of his own, he leaned down and kissed you again. It was a quick one and when he pulled back, he smiled at you and your flustered expression. “Goodnight.”
“I hate you for that. Now Marissa’s gonna force me to do a huge storytime,” You whispered, only half-heartedly glaring at him because a part of you still felt way too high on cloud nine from kissing him.
“Make sure to tell her how great I am,” He whispered back and then pressed a kiss to your forehead. Your heart fluttered at the simple yet tender action as he let go of your waist and moved away from you, he and Robin both started heading toward the stairwell.
When the door was closed and it was only you and Marissa left alone in your shared apartment, she immediately smiled at you. “Hell yes, so we can do double dates.”
You playfully rolled your eyes at her excited statement, but you had to admit, you felt a little excited too.
“What do we do? Is there someone we should call?” Jisung paces frantically, his fingers buried in his hair, his expression panicked.
Hyunjin scoffs from his spot on the couch, his arms folded over his chest, his whole posture stiff and screaming anger still. “What do you think there is? Some sort of ‘Presentation Police’?”
“Hyunjin.” Changbin warns in a low tone from beside the omega, eyes flashing to the distress obvious on Jisung’s face, in the souring of his scent.
The distress flooding everyone at this point.
“He’s right though.” Seungmin comments from his spot against the wall, watching everyone warily, as if he’s studying you all. “We will have to get the appropriate paperwork from the Heat Clinic to excuse him from studies.”
The beta shifts slightly, clearing his throat. “And delayed presentations, from what I’ve read, are like a heat, but on steroids. So whether he knows it or not, he’s gonna need an alpha-a knot-sooner rather than later.”
You don’t miss the way Changbin and Chan stiffen at his words, a muscle flinching in Chan’s clenched jaw.
Minho sighs, reaching out a hand to stop Jisung’s endless pacing, tugging the beta to him and tucking him beneath the safety of his chin.
Jisung’s body stills, but his foot still taps anxiously against the floor.
“What do we do now though? At this exact moment?”
Seungmin shrugs. “We’ll have to ask him-what he needs, what he wants. Every omega-especially newly presented ones-are different. No two are the same.”
Hyunjin snorts from his position on the couch, anger flaring to life in the dark recesses of his eyes.
“He’s in no fucking condition to talk, Seungmin. Kid can’t even keep water down. He’s miserable.”
You know why he’s angry-and he has a right to be-but your alpha growls warningly in response at the slight bitter flare to his scent, as if he’s challenging you.
You discreetly put a hand over your nose and breathe through your mouth, because the scents colliding in the room right now-heightened by uncertainty and rampaging emotions-are threatening to overwhelm you.
You can feel a headache starting to pound behind your eyes.
“He’s probably scared.” Felix whispers, eyes large and dark, expression grave and worried. He’s picking at a string on the blanket across his lap, and Hyunjin breaks his inactivity to reach out and place his fingers comfortingly over the other omega’s.
Felix gives him a grateful look before he continues.
“Someone needs to be there for him. I don’t know what late presentations are like, thank god, but I do know what heats are like, and he’s not going to want to be alone.”
Chan clears his throat, resignation in his eyes as he steps forward, glancing between you, Changbin, and Minho.
“We have responsibilities as the alphas of this pack to take care of our own. We need to ask him who he wants, before he suffers needlessly.”
“He’s already suffering.” Hyunjin mutters bitterly beneath his breath, and Chan turns to him, eyes suddenly flashing, but his voice steady.
“Hyunjin, you have a right to be angry on Jeongin’s behalf, we were boneheads, I get that, but no matter how stupid we’ve been going about it, we’ve always, always put this pack first, and that’s what we’re trying to do now. Please give us a little slack, and if you don’t have anything helpful to add, find somewhere else to be until you can get control of your emotions.”
You see Felix squeeze Hyunjin’s hand, and finally the omega nods once, curt and short.
Chan blows out a long breath and glances back to all of you, and you see the dark circles forming beneath his eyes, slowly bruising the tan skin.
“Okay. How do we do this?”
You feel something heavy sink into the pit of your stomach at his words, and you immediately hold out your hands, your voice quiet as you announce, “Well, he definitely doesn’t want to see me. So I’ll take myself out of the running.”
Chan opens his mouth to say something-maybe to agree with you, maybe not-but Seungmin beats him to the punch.
“Not necessarily.” The beta pushes off the wall and comes toward you, studying you with a sharp gaze that seems to look right into everything you’re so desperately trying to keep hidden. “You may have been a straight up alpha asshole, and Jeongin may be upset with you right now, but his omega is an entirely different story.”
You stare at him, and he gives you a slight smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes as he shrugs.
“Biology’s a bitch, remember?”
You sigh. “So you keep telling me.”
“I’ll just go and talk to him.” Hyunjin announces sharply, pushing up from the couch with a slight glare. “He’s used to my scent since I helped him down here to his apartment, so it shouldn’t trigger him too much or make him too territorial if I enter his nest-”
Suddenly, the omega sways on his feet, and Changbin is up in a flash, steadying him with an arm around his waist.
“Jin.” Changbin murmurs, his face pinched with worry and confusion as he stares at the omega. “You good?”
“Fuck, I don’t-” Hyunjin starts to say, shaking his head slowly, before he groans and leans over to clamp his arms around his midsection.
“Fuck.” He repeats again, and it’s a whimper this time, as Changbin takes all of his weight with a grunt and holds him upright.
“What the fuck is going on?” Chan asks, voice tight, as he kneels down in front of Hyunjin and tries to look up into his face, his hands going steadily on the omega’s hips.
There is the sudden sharp scent of lemons flooding out all the other smells in the room, and saliva starts to pool behind your teeth.
Your wolf begins to pace in agitation.
“I think I-” Hyunjin starts to say between gritted teeth, before doubling over once more.
And then you smell it, clear as day.
It makes your jaw ache, spit flooding your mouth, your wolf suddenly at full attention, hungry.
Slick.
“Aw, fuck.” Minho growls out, dark eyes growing more serious as he stares at Hyunjin. “Are you in heat?”
Hyunjin shakes his head violently, as Changbin helps him toward the door with slow, unsteady steps. “No! I’m diligent with tracking, I’m not even close-” “Wait.” You say, hurrying after Changbin and helping Hyunjin slip his feet into his sneakers. You glance up at the pained look on the omega’s from where you’re kneeling and suddenly, you feel stupid for not putting it together sooner.
“The same thing happened when Felix experienced his first heat as part of the pack.” You glance at Felix for confirmation, and he gives a quick nod, his eyes never leaving Hyunjin’s crumpled frame. “And now Jeongin-”
Seungmin’s eyes light up like he’s just put the puzzle pieces together too.
“Oh my god. We’re so fucking dense.”
You nod, and Hyunjin lets out a harsh breath, glaring as much as he can between the two of you.
“Spit it out. I’m dying here.”
You smooth a palm down his thigh, and the muscle trembles a little less beneath your touch, your pheromones blooming in the air between you.
“You’re our Luna.” You murmur, and your wolf growls with the rightness of it all. You can’t believe you hadn’t realized it sooner. You glance back up to Hyunjin’s pinched face. “You’re the Luna of the pack.”
Understanding crosses Hyunjin’s face, followed by panic.
“Fuck, I think I’m going to be sick-” He chokes out, and you don’t know whether it’s the sudden news of his position in the pack, or the impending heat, but he does suddenly look a bit green.
You stand, and open the door so Changbin can usher him into the hall.
“Take care of him, yeah?” You say softly as they pass you, and Changbin glances at you, nodding stiffly.
“I’ve got him, baby girl. Don’t worry.”
You nod back, holding his gaze. “I know.”
Hyunjin whines, and you have to tamp your wolf back down from answering the call.
You lean over once more to glance at his face, smoothing a hand over his hair.
“If you need me, baby-” You assure quietly, staring at him unwaveringly, your scent backing your firm words. “-I will be there immediately. Okay?”
Hyunjin nods, whimpering slightly beneath his breath, clutching his middle, and then you let them go, watching as Changbin helps him down the hall and out of sight.
You glance back in through the open doorway, to where the rest of the pack is still discussing how to help Jeongin, and now Hyunjin, and feel something heavy and forbidding settle into the pit of your stomach.
“Fuck.” You mutter beneath your breath, just to yourself and whatever God may be listening, before you go back into the apartment and shut the door.
***************
In the end, you all come to the decision that it’s for the best if the two betas go in to talk to Jeongin and see what he needs from all of you.
“Our scents are soft and faint, they won’t trigger him like the alphas’ or Felix’s would.” Seungmin had assured, looking between all of you seriously. “We’re also neutral ground, so his omega shouldn’t feel the need to be territorial over its nest either.”
 And now Jisung was looking like he wanted to follow in Jeongin’s and Hyunjin’s footsteps and promptly hurl his guts up in the bathroom.
“I’m having a fucking panic attack.” He chokes out, leaning over the sink, palms flat against the cold marble of the counter, face red and sweaty.
You shut the door quietly behind you and approach him slowly, watching the way his chest heaves as he breathes in and out.
Well, gasps in and out.
“Jisung.” You murmur gently, coming up behind him and carefully sliding your hands over his, pressing your chest against his back, if only to ground him a little. “Breathe.”
“I can’t-” He stutters out, fingers clenching beneath your own, his whole body trembling, as he drops his head and gasps for breath, repeating again desperately, “-I can’t.”
“Jisung.” You echo, voice firmer this time, pressing more tightly against him, pinning him against the counter, hoping to settle him with your body weight. “Look at me.”
He lifts his head, just enough to meet your eyes in the mirror from beneath the dark fringe of his bangs, and you hold him steady with your gaze, watching the panic swirl in the depths of his eyes.
“Breathe.” You admonish again, softer once more, and Jisung manages to take in one deep, shuddering breath. You nod, squeezing his hands. “Good. Again.”
He takes in another breath, followed by another, and you wait in silence, until his heartbeat is no longer thundering through his back and into your own.
“Good boy, baby.” You praise quietly, rubbing your fingers over his own, as he ducks his head once more and takes a few more calming breaths. “That’s it. You’re doing great.”
You watch him carefully in the reflection of the mirror, gauging his condition, and after another beat of silence, he lifts his head and says hoarsely in a halting voice, not quite meeting your gaze, “I’m sorry.”
You immediately shake your head, snaking your arms around his waist now that he’s a tad calmer, squeezing him to you as you continue to both stand in front of the mirror.
“You have nothing to apologize for, ever. Not with me, not with any other member of the pack. We love you, baby. That will never change.”
You squeeze him once more, just for good measure, and he finally meets your gaze, his own large, dark eyes still slightly more shiny than normal.
“Thanks.” He whispers back, taking in another long, trembling breath.
You nod silently, still watching him, and then ask softly, “Do you want to talk about it?”
Jisung blows out the breath he had been holding, and his fingers tighten again against the lip of the counter, his knuckles whitening.
The scent of drying laundry filling the bathroom grows slightly moldy.
His body tenses beneath your hold, and you sink your chin onto his shoulder, just to remind him you’re there.
“I-” Jisung starts, biting his trembling bottom lip. “-don’t think I’m the right person for this job.”
You say nothing, waiting for him to continue.
He sighs, and releases his hold on the counter finger by finger, as if he just now realized how tightly he was clenching the stone for support.
“I don’t know what to say, or what to do, and I’ve never even dealt with someone during their cycle before-well, that’s not true, I’ve been with Minho-hyung for rut, but a heat is completely different according to Seungmin-and a whole lot is riding on this going well, and I-” His panicked rambling dies off into a groan, and he leans over the sink once more. “-Fuck, I think I’m going to be sick-”
You cling to him more tightly, and try to pull him back from the brink.
“Jisung.” You say firmly, keeping your voice calm and steady, your expression never wavering from his as you stare him down in the mirror. You mimic a deep, long breath. “Breathe, baby.”
He manages to pull in another breath at your words, and then another, and when he looks at you once more, he doesn’t look quite so intent on vomiting up his breakfast.
You let him calm down in silence for another beat, and then you ask quietly, voice firm, “Who made you feel like that?”
Jisung’s eyes flick up to yours, and there is surprise written on his face, mixed now with the panic.
“Like what?”
It’s your turn to take in a deep breath, something cold and final settling between your ribs now that you’re truly paying attention, as if your wolf knew what was happening before you did, growling low and threatening, ready to protect the beta enclosed in your arms with its final breath.
“Like you’re not good enough. Like you’re somehow lacking.”
You’re not just talking about the anxiety attacks either. You’re talking about the fact that someone made him feel as if he didn’t have anything to contribute to serious situations.
The thought makes you see red.
Jisung visibly winces, and you know you’ve hit the nail on the head.
“Jisung.” You say firmly, reaching up a hand to cup his chin, so he can’t duck his head and avoid your gaze any longer, your palm against his throat, the rapid flicker of his pulse speeding up beneath your touch.
His eyes are large and dark, and a silent tear rolls down one of his cheeks.
“You are an important, valid, loved member of this pack. When I say you can do anything you set your mind to, I mean it. And there is no one, no one, better for this job than you.”
His bottom lip quivers and you swipe your finger tip across it gently.
“You were the first one to make Innie feel welcome. The first one to help him get comfortable. The first one to invite him to hang out in a casual setting. You were the only member of the pack he trusted from the absolute very beginning. You, Jisung, no one else, you. And he needs you now. And we wouldn’t have asked you to do this, if we didn’t believe that you could.”
Jisung takes in one more deep, shuddering breath, and then nods, straightening his shoulders with a determined look.
“You’re right. I can do this.”
You give him the hint of a smile as he turns in your arms, and lean forward to press a gentle kiss to the corner of his mouth, swiping away the track left behind by the rogue tear.
The scent of laundry is cleaner now, giving hints of a warm summer day and fresh detergent.
“Yes, baby, you absolutely can.”
*********
“Stop pacing.” Minho snaps out, glaring at Chan, as he takes another circle of the room.
Chan shoots him an apologetic look and flops down beside you on the couch. “Sorry, Min.”
He glances at his watch and then to the empty hallway.
“They’ve been in there a long time. Do you think they-” “No.” You shake your head, knowing where he’s going, and let your hand rest on his jiggling thigh, stilling the nervous movement and hopefully keeping him place for a moment longer. “They’re okay. Jisung and Seungmin have got this.”
Chan sighs and nods, sinking back into the couch, but he doesn’t look happy about it.
The hand he covers your own with is trembling slightly.
“God, you’re like a nervous mother hen, hyung.” Minho remarks with a slight smirk, though you can tell, by his grip on the arm of the couch, that he’s not as relaxed as he’s pretending to be.
This whole thing has put everyone on edge.
“I can’t help it.” Chan protests, throwing his hands out helplessly. “He’s always on edge, but today it’s like ten times as bad.”
You know he’s talking about his alpha, and something in his words catches your attention, making you think for a moment.
Hyunjin being the Luna of the pack made sense after you’d put everything together, maybe Chan-
Your train of thought is interrupted by the reappearance of Seungmin and Jisung, and a fresh wave of a scent you’ve never smelled before.
Something yeasty, like rising bread? And spiced with cinnamon around the edges.
Your wolf immediately pricks its ears, growling possessively.
At the same time, Chan covers his nose beside you, pupils going wide and dark almost immediately.
“Fuck.” Jisung goes directly to Minho, curling up into his arms and snuggling his head against his chest, and Minho rears back, hissing slightly between his teeth.
Jisung glances up, expression offended. “What the fuck, hyung?”
Minho carefully deposits the put out beta onto his own cushion of the couch, and scoots closer to you and Chan, his own palm going up to cover his nose and mouth.
“No offense, Sungie, but you’re gonna have to shower before you come near me again.”
Now all three of you are crushed onto the furthest end of the couch, and Seungmin is watching from the doorway, open amusement on his features.
Jisung glances at the other beta with annoyance on his face, and Seungmin takes pity on him, coming to sit beside him as he pats his hand once in sympathy.
Minho practically climbs on top of you and Chan to get away.
“It’s Innie’s scent, hyung. It’s all over us.” Seungmin says, glancing over to the three of you with humor in his dark eyes, his brow arched. “He didn’t have one before, but now that he’s presenting, it’s kinda strong.”
“Kinda?” Chan chokes out, trying to breathe through his mouth, and you have to agree with his outrage.
You literally can’t take a breath of the yeast laden air without your entire body prickling with want.
“Well, fuck me, I guess.” Jisung grumbles, lifting the hem of his shirt to his nose as if to smell what Seungmin is talking about, then letting it fall in open disgust.
“Oh, I will.” Minho retorts back, his hand never leaving his face. “But only after you shower.”
“Well?” Chan asks impatiently, and Seungmin gives him a sharp look, to which he slumps back on the couch. “Sorry.”
“Wow, first you say we stink, now you’re taking tones with us?” Jisung wails dramatically, flinging himself over Seungmin, even as the other beta wrinkles his nose and tries, unsuccessfully, to shove him off. “The pack is being torn apart by this!”
“You don’t stink-” You start carefully, glancing at Chan and Minho, who look just as desperately frazzled as you feel. The saliva in your mouth echoes the truth of your words. “-quite the opposite actually.”
Jisung immediately ceases his wailing and sits up right.
“Oh?” He arches a brow, and a saucy look comes over his face. “So you’re telling me I shouldn’t do this-”
He makes a move to playfully lunge toward the three of you, piled on the end of the couch, and swear to god, you all visibly flinch.
“No!” You all shriek at the same time, and Minho’s elbow hits you square in the face and Chan takes your knee to his ribs as you all scrabble to get away from the smirking beta and the overwhelming, incredibly tantalizing scent of warm bread.
“Fucking hell, Jisung.” Minho groans, pinching his nose and screwing his eyes closed as if he’s getting a migraine. “Do you have a death wish?”
Jisung’s smirk grows wider. “Death by fucking? It’s my ideal way to go.”
“Yeah, well-” Chan sighs deeply. “Don’t play with fire right now, okay? Or our alphas are liable to jump you and never let you go. They’re-” He shifts uncomfortably beneath you, and you feel his hardness between your legs. It makes your mouth water more. “-incredibly riled.” He finishes lamely, and Minho scoffs and rolls his eyes at the obvious understatement of the century.
  “Speaking of,” You turn to Minho, who is practically sitting on top of you, Chan on the bottom of your unfortunate dog-or wolf-pile. “Can you get your boner out of my face?”
He levels you with an even gaze. “Only if you get yours out of mine.”
Chan groans. “Seungmin, for the love of god, please just tell us who Jeongin wants so the other two of us can get the fuck out of here.”
Jisung’s face grows serious, and Seungmin lets out a long breath.
“He doesn’t know.” He lifts one shoulder in a shrug, even as your stomach plummets at the grave words. “You’ve all gotta go in there and see who his new omega responds to the most favorably.” Seungmin’s face darkens slightly. “But hurry up, because even if he doesn’t know it, he’s gonna need a knot, and soon.”
Chan nods resignedly. “All right. Do we get Changbin?”
“We can’t.” You immediately shake your head. “You know how Jinnie is in heat. He won’t let anyone else near him for the first twenty four hours.”
“Guess we’re the lucky Three Musketeers then.” Minho grunts, shoving himself up from the couch and offering you and Chan a hand. “C’mon Porthos and Aramis. Let’s get this over with.”
“How come you get to be Athos?” You grumble beneath your breath at the other alpha, but allow him to pull you to your feet regardless.
Minho arches a brow at you and gives you a look that brooks no argument as he pulls Chan to his feet as well.
“Because I said so. Now quit your whining and c’mon. Let’s go.”
********************
When you enter Jeongin’s bedroom, the first thing you’re hit with is the wave of scent.
It’s so thick you can taste it, warm and spicy on your tongue, saliva instantly pooling, teeth aching.
Your wolf is instantly pacing your insides, whining long and low, begging you to do something.
You clench your hands into fists at your side and glue yourself against the wall, because you’re not sure you can trust yourself to take another step.
Not yet.
Minho files in after you, his expression neutral, the only signal he’s taken notice of the new omega’s scent a slight flaring of his nostrils as he steps inside, leveling his gaze on the curled boy on the bed.
He crosses without hesitation, and crouches down beside Jeongin, careful not to disturb the carefully curated nest of blankets and pillows surrounding the omega, lining the edges of the small twin bed.
You admire his calm confidence, back hard against the wall.
“Hey, pup.” Minho says in a low, gentle voice, and Jeongin cracks open an eye, staring at Minho in slight confusion before recognition dawns on his features.
“Hyung?” He croaks out weakly, not moving from the fetal position, his arms curled around his middle.
His scent flares in response to Minho’s presence, and you grit your teeth, willing yourself to remain firmly in place.
Chan appears at your side, the last to come through the door, and you glance sidelong at him, noting the immediate change in his demeanor as the scent laden air washes over him.
His whole body stiffens, and you can see it, the alpha coming to life in the depths of his eyes, erasing the dark circle of his pupils as fiery gold washes in.
“Chan-” You start to say, not sure if you should reach out and touch him in his current state.
Minho reaches out to swipe a hand across the sweaty hair plastered to Jeongin’s forehead, and Chan growls, low and threatening in the back of his throat, the dangerous sound filling the room and making your every hair stand on end.
Minho glances over his shoulder at the other alpha, expression hard, lips pressed into a thin line.
“Christopher.” The name Minho always uses for your mate must snap him out of his alpha mindset for just a moment, because Chan is suddenly back, stumbling backward to plant his back firmly against the door beside your own, his eyes wide and dark, chest heaving, expression panicked.
A harsh wave of thunderstorm, so thick it threatens to choke you, rolls over the room.
This time, you reach out and lay a hand on his arm, and his frantic gaze snaps to your own.
“I can’t be here-” He chokes out, eyes flicking around the room, as if he’s looking for an escape route. He clutches at the fabric of his shirt covering his chest, as if his heart is pounding so hard he has to stop it from escaping. “-not with the two of you. Fuck, I need to go-”
Minho stands, slow and certain, staring Chan down.
Behind him, Jeongin whimpers.
“Do you want to rip my throat out, Christopher?” Minho asks so calmly, you have to double take on his words, his fingers pinching the skin of Chan’s wrist, his whole body stiff once more. “Rip it out for touching your little omega?”
Chan gulps, the sound loud in your ears.
“Minho, don’t.” You warn in a low voice, hand tightening to keep the alpha beside you in place.
Minho ignores you, cocking his head and arching a brow at Chan, completely relaxed.
“C’mon then. I won’t resist.” Minho smirks, baring his throat for Chan and going completely still.
Beside you, Chan freezes, and when you glance at him worriedly, his entire pupil is swallowed in a sea of roiling gold.
Minho snorts. “Oh? So you don’t care if I-”
He holds Chan’s gaze steadily, and reaches out to swipe a hand once more across the sweaty, pink skin of Jeongin’s flushed forehead.
A low growl emanates from Chan, and all of his muscles coil, as if he’s readying himself to pounce on the other alpha.
“Minho.” You repeat, harsher this time, and Minho finally looks at you. You stare him down. “Don’t.”
“I’m testing something, sweetheart.” Minho murmurs back, his gaze flicking back over to the other tense alpha practically vibrating beside you.
You have the silent thought that he could probably ‘test something’ when none of your lives are in danger, but you don’t say it out loud, choosing to keep a steadying hand on Chan instead.
“He’d just as soon rip your throat out too, you know.” Minho remarks, taking a step forward now, his searching gaze scanning Chan’s face. “Just because you’re his silly little moonmate or whatever Seungmin insists on calling it, it won’t stop him from turning on you with teeth bared if you so much as touch that omega currently on the bed, sweetheart.”
You glance to Jeongin, still curled into a ball, and then back to Chan, eyes wide, every breath a pant through his parted lips.
“Minho.” You try one more time, staring down the other alpha, who looks triumphant now. “Please stop.”
Thankfully, Minho listens to you this time, shrugging his shoulders easily, before he steps away from the bed and Jeongin and back toward the door.
Chan’s hackles slowly lower.
Minho smirks. “C’mon, sweetheart. I think I’ve proved my point.” He takes your hand off Chan’s arm and leads you around him to the door. “We’re not needed here.”
You stumble after him, still in a partial daze from Jeongin’s scent and Chan’s behavior, and let him pull you from the room, glancing over your shoulder as the door shuts behind you.
In the hallway, your head clears, and you’re whirling on Minho in an instant.
“What the fuck was that?” You demand angrily, the other alpha leaning against the wall and holding your gaze steadily, ignoring your obvious fury.
“What, you don’t know?” Minho inquires cockily, arching a brow, and you suddenly want to punch him in the face. He jerks his chin toward the room where you’d left Chan and Jeongin. “That, sweetheart, was a little test for Christopher, just to prove my theory right.”
You stare at him, something itching at the back of your brain, and Minho rolls his eyes at your silence and sighs, like he needs to walk you through it.
He pushes off the wall and closes the gap between you, reaching up to take your face in his hands and shake you a little.
“Sweetheart. Let me spell it out for you.” He slows down his words dramatically and you glare back at him, even as his lips curve upward into a smirk. “Christopher is a Head Alpha. More specifically, our Head Alpha.”
It clicks into place, and you remembered wondering, briefly, earlier.
You continue to stare, and Minho sighs again, releasing his hold on you.
You instantly miss the warmth of his skin and the sweet smell of bergamot in your nose.
You realize with a start that you’re still slightly riled from Jeongin’s overly strong scent, your wolf pacing restless, relentless heat slowly building beneath the surface of your skin.
“Minho.” You say as he turns to walk back to the living room, and he pauses, glancing over his shoulder at you with a raised brow.
The itch is growing, spreading over your body in prickling waves.
Staring at the full swell of Minho’s lips, bitten slightly between his sharp white teeth, is certainly not helping.
“Yes?” Minho goads, and you realize you’ve gotten lost in your own thoughts again.
You shake away the cobwebs and stare him down.
You can feel the gold creeping in, your alpha emerging.
You glance past his shoulder to the living room where the betas most likely wait, then back toward the spare room of Jeongin’s apartment.
Minho follows your gaze, and something predatory comes into his own.
“Oh?” You shrug a shoulder and take a step backward, toward the empty bedroom.
“I mean, they’ll expect us to be gone a bit longer-” Minho smirks dangerously, taking a step in your direction, and your pulse picks up, anticipating the game as the spicy scent of amber hits your nose.
“You’re absolutely right, sweetheart.” He purrs, taking another step as you take a step back to match, watching him warily.
His tongue darts out to wet his lips, making your core clench pitifully.  “And lucky for you, kitten, I’m in the mood to take my time.”
Here you are, lovely! *Familiar characters are the property of the writers/creators of SPN*
Warnings: Angst? Hidden pregnancy, a little fluff.
Pairings: Dean Winchester x pregnant!reader, Garth x Bess
Tumblr media
This was not happening. Absolutely NOT happening. It couldn't be. You had been so very careful. Yet, the two little lines glaring up from the test in your hand mocked you. You wanted to scream and cry at the same time. You were a hunter, for goodness sake! Dean was a hunter. A baby was not in the plan yet, even though you wanted to be parents some day.
         "Sweetheart?" Dean's voice carried through the door of the dingy motel bathroom, "You okay?" You nodded before remembering that he couldn't see you. "Yeah. Not feeling well. I think I should stay behind." After a beat, Dean spoke again. "Alright. Lock the door. I'll call you when we're on the way back. We'll stop and get you something to help you feel better."
         "Dean? I love you," you called out to him. He chuckled. "I love you too, Sweetheart." You smiled a bit as you glanced back down. How were you going to tell him? What were you going to do?
*time skip*
         "Why are we doing this again?" Sam asked, earning an eye roll from you. Dean had warmed up to the fact that your friend was now a werewolf, but Sam hadn't exactly taken the news well. "Because Garth asked us to, Sam. Werewolf or not, he's still our friend just like Cas and Benny," you replied as you fiddled with the sleeves of your too-big hoodie. When Dean had questioned why you bought such an oversized garment, you'd simply shrugged and told him you were tired of being cold all the time.
         In truth, you were using the thing to hide your soon-to-be obvious baby bump. You'd managed so far as until the last couple of weeks, you could explain it away as eating a little more. Which you were. But you just hadn't been able to pluck up the courage to tell Dean that he was going to be a father. The only other person that knew was Cas, because ya know, angels and all that. You'd begged him not to say anything to Dean. You never imagined that it would be Garth that blabbed your secret. At the dinner table.
         You somehow managed to end up sitting with Garth on one side and Dean on your other. Garth's wife was an amazing cook and you were really enjoying it. That is, until that damned morning sickness hit again. "You okay, sweetheart?" Dean asked, noticing how you stopped eating suddenly and closed your eyes. You opened them and tried to smile as you nodded.
         "Morning sickness sucks, huh?" Garth commented, "I remember Bess when she was pregnant with our first." Your head snapped over to Garth as you stared at him with wide eyes. "Morning sickness? But she's not-" Dean cut off when he noticed you had stiffened up and weren't denying anything. "Baby?" You continued to stare at Garth even as tears threatened to fall.
         "He didn't know?" Garth asked and you shook your head slowly. "H-How did you know?" you questioned with a soft voice. "Werewolves have a super sense of smell. You-You smell different. You're acting different. And you're looking sick over one of your favorite meals." You finally glanced over at Dean. He looked shocked. Shocked and angry. Very angry. Needless to say, the rest of dinner was a rather awkward affair.
         Dean was silent as the three of you headed back to your motel for the night before heading back to the bunker the next day. His eyes remained fixed on the road as his knuckles turned white with how tightly he gripped the steering wheel. Neither you nor Sam said a word either. Dean needed time to process and you needed time to figure out how you were going to explain everything to him.
         Sam practically ran to his room when the three of you pulled into the motel parking lot. You followed slowly behind Dean, unsure if he would want you sharing the room that night. Luckily for you, Dean held the door open until you'd made it into the room. You instantly sat on the edge of the bed, waiting for Dean to say something. You knew he wouldn't yell at you or anything like that, but breaking up over this was obviously one of the top thoughts in your head. Five year relationship down the drain, just like that. And you wouldn't have blamed him for it.
         "How long?" he suddenly asked, making you jump. "W-What?"
         "How long have you been pregnant? How long have you known?" You bit your lip as tears welled up in your eyes. Damn hormones. "About four months. I haven't been to a doc since the last one confirmed that the pregnancy test was right. I've known for a couple months now, maybe two and a half. It's why I've been sticking to research." You let your gaze travel up to Dean's face. He didn't look angry anymore at least.
         "Why didn't you tell me?" You shrugged a little. "When could I have? You've been on back-to-back hunts for weeks. Not to mention that it's not exactly a good time for this." You let your head fall forward so your eyes were on the floor again. Your voice was soft and you hated it. You hated feeling this weak, especially in front of the love of your life. "I wasn't sure if-if you'd want it," you whispered after a moment when Dean didn't answer you.
         Dean was suddenly squatting in front of you, his fingers lifting your chin so he could look into your eyes. "Sweetheart, there is nothing I want more. I knew from the moment I met you that I wanted this. The whole white-picket fence crap. It's a horrible time, sure, but I want this if you do. I wish you would have told me. I hate that I had to find out from Garth."
         "I'm so sorry, Dean. I just didn't know how to tell you." He reached up to wipe the tears from your cheeks. You took his other hand and placed it on your stomach. "I love you, Dean and I'm sorry. No more secrets, I promise." He raised up a bit so he could kiss your forehead. "I love you too."
(a/n: I hope you like it! I AM working on something for Tolkien, it’s just taking a while so I thought I’d give you something in the meantime.)
