Fun tortoise and Bonnie fact: Bonnie is a boy! It's hard to sex a tortoise for the first couple of years of their life as their shells can change making you think male or female. Bonnie didn't have normal signs of being a male or female. It's suggested to name your tortoise a name knowing they can be either sex. But we don't care if Bonnie is a boy and has a typical girl name. But, when he is naughty, his full name is Bernard.😆 But we just picked a name for the duo of torts and Clyde definitely looked male so that's how they ended up with the names they have.

Horton has mobility issues due to being born as a flipper baby. Most of the time flipper babies are euthanized as soon as their disability is known after they hatch. Horton was surrendered directly from her breeder because they didn't want to euthanize. But they weren't able to treat her special needs. When she arrives, she went in our normal quarantine but wasn't doing well. Dragons can easily be stressed from changes and can fail. We thought we may have to euthanize due to how poorly she was doing. But with determination, we carefully cared for her hoping she would turn around after a few days. And after about 3 days, she suddenly showed her will to live and thrive. She became extremely active and especially loved to swim (still does). As flipper babies age, their disabilities progress. She does well and has to have a specific enclosure set up to make sure she doesn't flip on her back or become stuck. She loves attention but still loves to be independent if possible.

Vader's aggression is getting so much better! He would randomly bite when I worked around his head (that's why he was named Darth Vader). But he hasn't tried to bite in a while. Not to say he won't try again but it's been great progress.
He is currently being treated for a cold. He has tiny nasal passages and likely will fight colds on and off because of this. But, the antibiotics have worked wonders and another week should do the trick.
Meanwhile, when he was surrendered, he also has missing toes. That is probably why he isn't fond of his feet being touched. But, he has been improving with that as well.👏
🙏Please visit our GoFundMe or other links and remember every dollar helps! If you could share our GoFundMe with your friends, that would also be an amazing way to help us.🥰

Ethel arrived almost 4yrs ago. We were told her diet was mostly iceberg lettuce & strawberries with a couple of bugs. No vitamins/calcium. & little to no UVB. She was emaciated & we were told Ethel constantly laid eggs. She was stained from feces & showed signs of abuse.
On Fri, she laid an egg but it wasn't shaped properly. She was doing well until Sat night. She showed signs of discomfort & was trying to push. After a short time she stopped. On Sun she showed more discomfort & trying to push throughout the day.
We went to see her vet on Mon & her x-rays didn't reveal much. Eggs were forming but nothing major showed. An enema helped clean out yolk that had released from the malformed egg. We monitor all intake of vitamins/calcium, but she is also about 12.
On Tues she looked like she felt better for a bit but by evening she was in a pain & was pushing.
The next day we took her for surgery to explore for issues & spay her. It is not safe to put any reptile under anesthesia. But for an older dragon that is having complications, it's even more risky. It was our only option. And it went well. The exploration revealed more yolk but no signs of cancer. As she was spayed, her right side did have many eggs forming but her left side had ruptured. Another day & she wouldn't be with us.
So grateful for our vet! She went above & beyond! Ethel has a long road of recovery & is not out of woods yet. But she jumped a big hurdle & hopefully will feel like herself in a few weeks.
Thank you for your kind words of support. & To those that donated, your support is helping to pay for her bills. If you can help towards her medical bills, please donate. Donation links are in our bio. Thank you again. & thank you again to our vet & her amazing staff🙏💝

Ethel update: she gets her stitches out tomorrow!👏 She is still on antibiotics and seems to be doing well. She will get a check-up while she is there to make sure.
✨She isn't the only reptile that is currently being treated. We have Vader being treated for a respiratory issue, he will likely have the issue on and off throughout life because of poor nasal development. And Squirt had a few days not not feeling well. But she seems to have bounced back from her "cold" after having antibiotics. Unfortunately, she has such stunted growth, that she too will likely have continued issues. She is the smallest "full grown" adult we've had.
We also have others with special needs that get different medications for various reasons. So please donate to our medical costs. We have a GoFundMe or you can donate in other ways (link in bio). And you can now donate your spare change using RoundUp App!

I'm still healing ☺️
#Update
Ethel's been healing great. On Tuesday she got a check-up g had her stitches removed (before/after stitch pics). The visit was good & the vet was just as thrilled at her progress.
Until Thursday..
Since Tuesday we even had her back in her enclosure at night instead of our "ER care". Suddenly Dad heard her rustling at 11:30pm. He checked on her & restless became an EMERGENCY!🆘 She was bright yellow with a jet black beard (the darker her body is, the happier she is). & a black beard is a bad sign for any unwell dragon. She was also gasping! We went into full blown ER care. Her throat was so inflamed we could barely do CPR. I held her in position & Dad managed to tube her to try to help any possible blockage the swelling caused. The whole process from discovery to success was about 20-30 min. It felt like an eternity. Back into ER Care! She has been given new meds to help the additional swelling. Her throat already was inflamed when she had surgery but this extra swelling came out of no where. The new meds are making her feel like Superwoman & she thinks she is invincible. She is more peppy than ever and doing great.
💖We have our GoFundMe & really need donations to help pay for all the medical costs. Not only Ethel's care but also the others that get medications & vet care. Please donate & share our GoFundMe. Every dollar matters! We also have RoundUp (you can donate your spare change), Venmo @ HappyHides , PayPal, Amazon & Chewy Wishlists & others ways to donate. If you don't have extra to donate, please sign up for Amazon Smile & choose Happy Hides to support. Then your regular purchases will donate a % to us at no extra cost to you! Thank you so much 🙏

Johnny5 was SO aggressive when he arrived. He'd lunge and was determined to bite anytime you were in his enclosure. Mom forced so much love that he wants to be with her 24/7! 🤦 He is still sometimes mean to Dad. 🤭 But he's Momma's little boy.🥰 And yes, he LOVES to be in my space, especially cuddling against my face all the time.😆
