So I saw this fan art of Female Daring x Male Cerise that was so cute but I kept thinking because making good character genderbends or a complete genderbend universe is not easy.

I have four main OC's that I made their counterparts of the opposite sex, and first I like that the name is similar to the original or that, for example, if it is an adjective, you put another adjective similar or so. The name is one point, their looks, the personality, they have to have a similar personality but obviously not the same.

For example of names I saw, I think on DeviantArt I saw someone who called his Male! Darling, Danger and I think it's amazing because Darling is like an adjective that describes someone and Danger it's an adjective and I think it's incredible. Another example is when I read a fanfic where the female version of Chase (Paw Patrol) was called Siren so cool because Chase is like a police chase and Siren is like a police siren and everything was like related to the police, all super cool.

So yeah, But obviously I would love to see more about genderbends in Ever After High.

A Future With You (MakoHaru Week 2023)

Hello, friends! It’s been a while since the MakoHaru week ended, but I didn’t have the time to put all the fics together in a collection-post before, so here it is now. Day 1: Hidden in Plain Sight Prompt: Body Worship. Rating: E. Word count: 9,6k Setting: Historical AU. “For the past five years, Makoto has been working as a servant at the earl’s estate, the last four of which as the valet of the earl’s son, Lord Haruka. But no one knows the true nature of his job and, if their secret were to be discovered, it would have catastrophic consequences for both Haruka and himself. When Haruka makes him a life-changing proposition, Makoto has to decide if he dares to risk it all for a shot at happiness.” (AO3)

Day 2: A Piece of Me (is Always With You) Prompt: Love Letters. Rating: T. Word count: 6,4k. Setting: Post-Canon. “While at a training camp in Stockholm, Haruka finds himself feeling lonely without Makoto, who is studying for exams back in Tokyo. When he’s reminded of an unanswered letter Makoto sent him when they were children, Haruka thinks this might be the perfect opportunity to finally respond to it.” (AO3)

Day 3: Hydrangeas, Orange Blossoms, and Everything in Between Prompt: Flowers + Soulmates. Rating: G. Word count: 5,1k Setting: Soulmate AU. “On his late grandmother’s birthday, Haruka goes to a flower shop to buy a bouquet with his grandmother’s favourite flowers. There, Haruka finally meets the person responsible for the ever-changing soulmate mark adorning the inside of his wrist.” (AO3)

Day 4: A Spoonful of Love Prompt: Cooking. Rating: T. Word count: 5,6k. Setting: Post-Canon. “After two weeks apart, Haruka is finally coming home from a training camp and Makoto wants to surprise him with a special dinner. i finished the limbus event ages ago but forgot to post my thoughts (still gotta grind in the upcoming weeks) but what a tour de force of an event. i quite liked it. the chickens rolling 11-13 on one coin was pretty annoying so anyone reading this who hasn't started: bring your high rollers. at any rate, i like that it gave limelight to characters that haven't had much so far— it feels as if they combed through the script of the cantos released so far and listed sinners in order of not necessarily who said the least, rather who hasn't really had a chance to show off their personality as much. i do quite understand and feel it— "gives spotlight to characters who needed it" is quite cliché praise that conveys nothing, at the end of the day. but it's true.

spoilers under the cut, for like everything potentially, but especially the event of course. (also may include my grievances with the fandom so if youre not about negativity...well if you follow me here youre probably ok but just a warning out of courtesy)

I LOVED HOW IT GAVE FOCUS TO CERTAIN SINNERS!!!! especially meursault, yi sang and hong lu!! donQ was funny!! gregor was cringefail moe!! more of ryoshu is NEVER a bad thing!! (ryoshu pussy destroyer, apropos of nothing) i think even though sinclair had his introductory canto already with arguably the best sinner to story+dungeon integration and immersion so far, its nice to see him not suffering and just being some guy. i did say "they gave the characters who didn't do much more spotlight" rather than "didn't say much" because in the grand scheme of things, sinclair didn't do that much in canto 1 and 2, and 3 was an interesting facet of him but nonetheless we hunger for these sinners in any situation funny or tragic.

but also because i have a huge issue with "XYZ doesn't talk much" sort of justification for mischaracterization. this concerns mostly yi sang and meursault. now, to preface things, usually i am not the kind of person who likes to heckle people and demand they meet prerequisities before consuming a work (well it depends, for me personally i like going in production order when it comes to games and anime but this is different+if someone came up to me demanding stuff my response would be "no way" out of spite a lot of the time. though i try to respect the work by honoring its othee branches IVE GONE OFF ON A TANGENT SORRY), but yi sang and meursault in particular are about the most straightforward original book to limbus character translations there are probably. i think i mentioned it on main before, but the solution to "i don't know how this character is" is probably to look back on the source material. i suspect it is due to the short length of their respective sources, even yi sang who seems to take after his poetry as well and not just the wings, does not come up to even 50 pages all together probably. (i have not read all his poetry but i've read crow eye's view right after this event because i was further spurned to do so, i read the wings last week) the stranger is about 100 pages. it makes sense, when you have a longer source like for example crime and punishment, you have more room to do more topsy turvy aversions like mixing sonya and rodya's convictions together and switching stuff around ever so slightly... also the genderbending but that's obvious. prosthetics racism aside, they played with sinclair a bit still, but all in all it's following most of demian's beats quite closely, down to demian magically making kromer go away in an act of demian ex machina (though on screen as opposed to off in the book, though the mystique is arguably not lost because the fucker is floating like some kind of ghost or guardian spirit. not saying he is any of this but yknow). P.S. i think if they somehow work eva into limbus i might lose my mind that was such an insane part of the book

however even before this event, in the three cantos we have available, i feel that yi sang and meursault have been adequately characterized. i read the stranger in high school so my memory on it is fuzzy, and as aforementioned i read the wings last week, and they are represented quite faithfully! not to mention meursault wasn't even scarce in canto 3! i understand that they're a little dry as characters, maybe that is seemingly boring to some people but i don't think it is an excuse. there's no REAL need to read the books and that's not my point here at all, but still, i think what we have in the game even pre-event paints a quite clear picture as it is. i'm trying my best not to sound like i'm looking down on anyone, i say this all the time but before limbussy i had only been reading non-fiction books for years because i lost my spark for fiction. i'm happy it revived it. so i'm not gonna come from the angle of "read books or die" cuz that's not me. i'm saying this because i have intense anxiety but i will repeat again that while i speak strongly and perhaps even harshly, i do not think any less of most people. though maybe i cannot hide my annoyance at fandom types much even if i am trying. <-im just a guy

though i will spill the beans on myself and admit that i feel that you miss out on so much when not reading at least some of the books. sure, some of them follow quite closely, but there'a so much fun in comparing and contrasting. seeing the subversions and aversions, and what they chose to keep as is. I LOVE IT!!! i want you guys to know this joy. and i love that my reading block is going away. btw i am reading stuff in canto order. 👍

my comments on donQ in laconic because no one wants to hear it (will oblige if you ask but it is groanworthy so i will use my discretion regardless) (also clarifying again cuz i have anxiety but i do not ever think donQ being silly is bad. she is perfect. i have 0 complaints. it is more about fandom treatment):

and then there was hong lu.

this one's a real stinker. hong lu isn't topping much of my lists but i think he is a charming and nuanced character who is unfortunately probably the most flanderized sinner next to heathcliff and donQ (THE CROWD BOOS AT THE NOTION OF DONQ BEING FLANDERIZED). as with many people, i don't know if a day may come that i will read dream of the red chamber in whole— i may attempt it of course, but the length is undeniably daunting. i don't know much about it, only that hong lu himself is not a character in it, but more like some kind of metaphysical mishmash of different elements in the novel (even his name is derived from the title itself). it is not difficult to surmise that the odds are stacked against him. i don't think this section will be too long, but i feel that not only is the nuance in his character in limbus easily disregarded, but it is being superceded entirely by this phantom of what the fandom has thrust onto him. i am not anti-fun, nor am i "you're enjoying it wrong grrr" (this is a lie i kind of am sometimes but i am self aware of it)

but even just judging from the material in limbus alone i do not see where people got the "hong lu is a frivolous shallow whore" thing outside of idk, him being a handsome somewhat kind of sort of gender non-conforming male character and acting (strong emphasis on acting) a little ditzy and being showy. he's quite sheltered, i do not deny that he says ignorant things because of his upbringing, but the event did lay it on thick in one scene that he also enjoys messing with people a bit. but i think it will still be taken super literally regardless. he is a character with hidden depths, so far not much of it is revealed, but he shows moments of great emotional intelligence at times (like in canto 3 when he told a different sort of half truth to saude about effie being "fine"... i mean it's uh. not a lie) and the guy can definitely read the room if he so chooses to do so. the moment in the event where he got a little cagey and perhaps even introspective when faust used him as an example to explain distortion was another moment of depth uncovered: i think it will be a slow process overall. which is great. there are some characters that we will continue to learn more and more about incrementally throughout the run of the game (however long that will be, but i will be there no matter what) rather than getting a seemingly complete baseline right away. (because really, everyone has hidden depths still, it's just that sinners in the position not unlike hong lu's just have MORE hidden i suspect donQ is the same— /shot

but yeah. i had a lot to think about because of the event. but i love the direction it went with showing the sinners' individuality off and who they chose to show more of. i could not be happier with it. i feel like very few mobage are able to do this balancing act of fleshing out characters outside of story. i think fgo also does it well (CROWD STARTS THROWING ROCKS AT ME)

P.S. i do not assert that my interpretation of the characters is 100% correct and infallible EVER— everyone sees things differently. however what is objectively incorrect is stuff that just ignores canon outright and on a consistent basis. at that point idk if we are reading the same text.

Drama in the gay mermaid community

A few days after their okay-ish date, Marisa invited Akva to go swim at a swimming pool in the spice district. She thought it was a nice gesture, as it was the area where they both grew up, and it looks better than ever now that it got massively renovated a year ago. On top of that, since that renovation, there's been a promotion every Monday morning and mermaids can swim there for free.

Akva: So yeah, turns out the guy I had picked specifically as a last ditch effort to convince myself I'm not a lesbian was a trans woman this whole time. Granted, I found that out two years after we broke up, but that's still funny. Marisa: Oh wow, that's crazy. Maybe it's because on like, some level you knew. Akva: That sounds unlikely.

Akva looked up and for the love of Poseidon, speaking of the Devil, there she was taking a dive into the pool.

Akva: Oh my god, Athena! Athena! Athena: Oh HIIIIII!!!!

The blue mermaid swam towards her ex-girlfriend, at sat next to her.

Akva: What are you doing here? Athena: Ok, ya see, I accepted Paisley's offer to be her video editor, and so for a short while I did so while living in Del Sol Valley. The thing is I've been living on the West Coast for years now, since I left for college, and I missed San Myshuno. And so, last month, I finally moved back home, got an apartment and everything. I'm still working for Paisley, just from a distance. By the way, Sara continue to be a happy healthy toddler, and began going to daycare back in September. Akva: That's great to hear. I'm also surprised to see how different you look from last time. How did you changed so fast in just a few months? Athena: Magic. Like a spellcastress sold me a potion. The effects are only temporary and not as powerful as a full blown genderbending potion, but it'll do for now. Until I can admit it to my parents. Akva: You're back in town and you still haven't told your parents? Imagine if they can recognize you, I mean, I just did so why couldn't they? Athena: "In town". San Myshuno has a population of 8.5 millions. The odds of me coming across my parents are so low. It's already a huge coincidence I came across you. Akva: Ok but like, you're in the spice district, which is where we both grew up, and has a huge mermaid population. It kinda raises the odds you'll come across them, don't you think? Athena: I-It's not the same thing. They don't know I'm a woman now, they probably won't realize I'm, well, me. You know, that's how you recognize me.

Marisa laid down, waiting for them to change the subject so she could join the conversation. It never happened though, they argued about Athena's coming out plan, then went on to gossip about what their former classmates from high school are now up to.

Akva: You look beautiful by the way. Athena: Oh my god, thank you. Marisa: That's it, I gotta go. Akva: What, why?

Marisa stood up drag herself away from the pool, and as soon as her legs grew back, she walked up. Concerned on what she did wrong, Akva also stood up and speed walked towards her, as everyone knows you cannot run near a pool.

Marisa: That's really rude to flirt with your ex during a date you know? Akva: Th-This was a date?! How was I supposed to know? You did not told me. Marisa: I-I...Well, it's true I didn't told you, because I thought it was pretty obvious. Akva: I don't think it works like that. We're not girlfriend, as long as we're not, as far as I know any going out is just platonic friendly outing. And...Ok, since a miscommunication put us into this mess, I'll just go straight to the point, I do not want to be your girlfriend. Marisa: Well me neither!

That's when Marisa left. Akva felt awful, she didn't want to hurt her feelings, she's a fine girl, a fine girl who she's not into. If only she knew. Meanwhile, Athena kept on sitting by the pool. In a way, it wasn't really her fault, it's not like she knew, but like Akva, she couldn't help but feel like garbage over this.

OC-tober day 19: inspiration

Here are some of the obvious inspirations (that i can remember, since I did make her almost ten years ago) for Essa "S" Prochaine, everyone's favorite fire girlie!

Pictured clockwise from the top we have: Day/Daniel Altan Wing from Legend, Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist, and Lena Duchannes from Beautiful Creatures. In-depth explanations under the read more!

Up top we have the man, the myth, the legend (😉) Daniel Altan Wing/Day himself. Day is the protagonist of the Legend series by Marie Lu, which is a book i read in middle school, and i have been trying to recreate the feelings it instilled in me ever since. In the very first draft of Above All Else, S was literally just a Day genderbend. She was blonde, she was an orphan, she was CoAm's most wanted criminal at the tender age of 14, and she liked to scale buildings. I cannot express how hard I laugh every time I read that original draft that I turned in to my 8th grade English teacher like "here is my totally original concept." If he knew about this book series I am sure his praise for my writing would not have been so high. Even True was just Tess #2. So thanks Marie Lu for giving me these kids I will never be able to let go of.

To the right we have none other than Edward Elric. I watched FMA for the first time the year after that initial draft, and needless to say the way i thought about story and character was forever changed. S got the personality from him, I'm sure. Also something something doing everything for the sibling (or in S's case, sibling-like relationship) that you Cannot Fail.

Lena Duchannes, rhymes with rain! I also read Beautiful Creatures after that initial draft, but I was absolutely entranced by the idea of a secret witch society that exists alongside our own. In Beautiful Creatures the magic users are called "Casters" and have Dark or Light affinity. In Above All Else, the magic users are called "Occultists" (I wanted to get really obscure with the vocabulary to counter the simplicity of "Caster," in true pretentious 14 year old fashion), and the two main characters with abilities are a fire user and a shadow manipulator. How about that?

I'm thinking about making a alternate Zable Fable but as a REALTORs in my infected au and this is his fungmammal.

Making a genderbend Zable Fable lure.

Maybe name this fungmammal Dawg Hus.

His type is a very rare one which is randomized so lure can be anything but has a high chance to be a Husk Realtor or the opposite being like my castle house (Castelo Chateau) being like a villain for him.

Also gender changes the lure body if it wants and if this infected realtor was a tree it would be a papaya hermaphrodite tree.

This infected realtor would try to collect parasite ones to use their powers then toss them away.

I can also see this infected realtor checking out yard sales infecting people just for fun and to making infected allies then later when this realtor becomes a husk realtor permanently where the fungmammal is in full control.

This infected realtor's business cards have Papaya fruits on them.

The business card number has 2679 which is Copy in telephone numbers.

This infected realtor also sells the best papayas you have ever eaten that they grew themselves.

This infected realtor eats normal foods, buyers, and inanimate objects but likes eating other infected realtors before they parasite by their hands.

Favorite inanimate foods are parts of houses by just ripping parts of them off whether or not it be from a random house.

Ripping off a part of a infected or non infected REALTORs house to consume.

Picking out a infected realtors business card from the source pocket from a lure body's pocket then using a infected realtor's business cards to floss their teeth with and consume it.

Dupla (If the lure body is female looking) or Duplo (If the lure body is male looking) Lar (Portuguese for both Doubleganger and Home.)

This infected realtor likes to eat money that it obtains by buyers or other infected realtors but not from selling their papayas.

They like the texture of the money and this infected realtor also doesn't eat their own papayas they grow.

If this infected realtor overhears a depressed buyer they will follow after them to try to get them to see their house to eat while also trying to find buyers that are dating non infected realtors to later eat their mates.

Dawg Hus is a literal dog house shaped dog fungmammal and was there protecting the infected realtor's seed while the house body was slowly building around the creature.

He is very protective of this house and is this infected realtor's only friend but is really using them to become a husk realtor to finally have a human form.

This infected realtor isn't picky and would eat anything.

For deep, I have chosen that harry style's dress remember that flared pale blue one with extra layers and a blazer on top(chase Crawford would absolutely sly it though) in the similar pose. For A-train, I would choose again Harry's 2022 met gala look with pearl earrings. And time for our favorite homelander!!!his dress should match the color of his eyes, then a beautiful shimmering gown with v-shaped cut in front that would have a thigh high slit on one side. instead of his American flag, a pure snow White cape would be drapped across his shoulders that would have fur around the collar, neck and borders. Dainty rhinestones chains would be running across his shoulders, fixing the cape to the dress. I want to give him a snow Queen look.

ive also been reading hiroyuki nishimori manga lately. i started w i'm doshiro bc i was high and i read the description and it sounded funny and i read like 25 chapters and it was actually a knee slapper especially high it was really really good. it started getting a little serious after that so reading it sober i was like ._. but it was still fun. i might reread the beginning bc i really forgot

then i read all of cheeky angel and now i'm watching the anime. im kinda obsessed with it like idk its really really good and same thing happened where it was funny but then shit got really serious toward the end but i think it worked better here. its interesting bc its kinda dated (obviously since its 20 years old) but also very progressive in its view of gender roles.

like since the audience thinks that megumi is a boy and has the mind of a boy she is right to think the way she thinks/behaves, i.e. her want to be cool and reliable and strong is taken seriously but even given the spoiler that doesn't change she's still a serious character which i really appreciate. obviously bro did not have trans people in mind when creating this manga but it’s interesting to see the idea of changing genders taken seriously when normally genderbending is like a fetish thing in manga. and literally every character is bisexual as a result thats crazy. even keiko. i love keiko she's so much funnier in the anime idk who they got doing her voice but she's a star. anyway point is its nice that in the end, even though her identity is important to her, equal importance is given to her as a person

oh also abt the manga. the viz translation is really... like idk who was translating it but anime fans in the early 00s were not real bro nobody talked like that not even in american comics or whatever they were trying to emulate to make them appeal to western audiences. they were doing way too much esp in the early chapters. it got better later on but overall the anime delivers the comedy way better

ig the one thing thats like ermm is that the gender roles are sooo enforced in the society depicted in the manga like ik its how it is/was but damn. my parents go easy on me like i haven't done anything feminine (that was forced on me and wasn't out of my own desire to act feminine) basically ever. and i was never really all that feminine anyway. maybe its bc i was pretty passive too so they let it slide

the early art style was so pretty im kinda sad it changed but ig its nice how stylized it became toward the end. also the 2nd ending is SO good

anyway i will be reading kyo kara ore wa after. reading these made me realize i love delinquent manga. oh i might finally continue reading slam dunk too i'm in the mood for some old shit
