The Bat Boys X Bookworm!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: What the Bat Boys (and Eris & Lucien) are like with their bookworm partners
Warnings: Lil smutty and nsfw (not too much just want to cover myself) so 18+ MDNI
Notes: Just a bit of fun really, it's different to what I usually write but I hope you guys like it!
Rhysand
Rhysand loves you
And if loving you means that he has to feed your obsession with buying books?
Then he would happily clear out all the bookshops in Velaris if it meant getting to see you smile.
Rhysand is rich-rich.
Which means if there's something you want? He'll buy it for you without question.
You once mentioned about how much you'd love your own library one day.
So of course by the end of the week you had your own little haven inside Rhysand's house with more books than you could ever dream of reading and your own little ladder to reach them all.
But he didn't stop there.
For your mating gift he purchased you your very own library in Velaris
In which Rhys may or may not have enacted his fantasies of sleeping with a Librarian.
Whilst Rhysand does like to read, his taste in books is very different to your own.
But even though he doesn't read the books you do, he's more than happy to sit and listen to you talk about your favourite ones for hours if that meant being able to see your eyes light up as you talked about something you loved.
But no books nor libraries could top the best gift he had ever given you.
A hand-written book containing the story of your relationionship.
Complete with crude little comments and drawings the High Lord had scribbled down in the margins.
Rhysand loved history.
So what better way to preserve his undying love for you than in-between the pages of a book which would last forever.
Cassian
Cassian had never been very interested in books.
He'd much rather experience the thrill of real fighting and action in person than spend his time reading about it on some dusty old pages.
In fact the only time Cassian had been in a library he had the terrifying encounter with Bryaxis.
Safe to say that the trauma he experienced was the perfect excuse for never stepping in one again.
Until he met you.
Cassian has always been the type of guy who's all in or nothing.
He discovers the person he has a crush on likes reading?
You know he's going to be walking around with books he's never even opened pretending like he is a well-read Illyrian.
Citing quotes he doesn't even understand just to try and impress you.
And once you're together?
You show Cassian exactly what he's missed out on when it comes to reading.
Especially when it comes to getting tips for your bedroom activities.
For months after you revealed to him the wonders that are smut books, Cassian would spend his free time delving through the pages looking for new ideas on how to spice up your sex life.
Claiming his increased interest in reading was due to 'research purposes'
Cassian is 100% down to roleplay characters from your novels
He loves being the big strong hero to your damsel.
Whenever Cassian catches you reading, happily curled into the comfort of your sofa, he'll approach with a smirk on his lips
"Any new tricks you'd like to try out? I think page 69 is worth a shot."
Azriel
Azriel's a busy guy.
He's always away on missions for Rhysand or working in the dungeons of the Court of Nightmare's
So he can be forgiven if when he comes home, reading is the last thing on his mind.
But what he does enjoy though, is when you read to him.
He can lay with his head in your lap for hours.
Humming along to whatever tale you tell whether it's fantasy, romance or a good thriller
Sometimes he'll even offer his input. Laugh when something especially funny happens or shed a tear whenever a character he likes died.
Azriel loves the sound of your voice
Enjoying the way you put on voices whenever a character is speaking.
He's grown to like the sense of domesticity that he feels whenever you read to him. Allowing himself to imagine you doing this to two little Illyrian babies of your own.
Reading to your wide eyed children as they are gripped by the tales you're telling
Azriel is also a gentleman.
Need a hand with carrying the books you're choosing whilst you shop?
He's there
Hands willingly taking everything you stack on top of him, trailing after you with your selections like a lost puppy.
And when you get to the till?
Azriel had already spoken to the shopkeeper upon entry and added anything you chose to his account. Claiming the books were just as much his as they were yours if you were going to read them to him.
Azriel is definitely the type of male who likes you to read your smut to him as he pleasures you, acting out the words on the page until you're unable to speak anymore, leaving the rest of the chapter to your own imagination.
Eris
Eris is a reader.
He loves nothing more than to settle down after a long day with a good book in hand and a steaming tea.
You can't tell me he doesn't find it the hottest thing ever when he discovers you like to read too
The two of you have your own little book club
You'll each read the same book and then have a little meeting when it's over to discuss what you thought of it.
He can also get really emotional and intense about them.
God knows the amount of times you've had to calm him down when a character has made a choice he didn't like.
I think Eris definitely likes to write too
Not seriously, but it's a good way for him to get his thoughts out and to escape from the day to day of his reality.
And he loves to have you read his work
To see the way your face lights with joy as your eyes flick through his beautiful prose.
A small smile upon his lips at the knowledge that the muse for his writings was you.
Lucien
Lucien also likes to read.
But the way you read?
It terrifies him.
The way you obsess over the characters from your stories.
Your passionate opinions on their decisions and the plots.
God forbid Lucien says something about them that you don't agree with.
Lucien finds you positively feral when it comes to the stories you like.
But that doesn't stop him from wanting to show interest in them too.
Lucien likes to read all your favorite books and leave annotations of his thoughts in the margins.
This was exactly how the two of you had gotten together, the male having gifted you with a copy of a book he had noticed you reading.
The pages filled with scratchy comments and opinions on everything that happened.
Lucien pours his soul into his annotations and you love that.
Lucien is also a poetry man.
He loves to recite verses to you which stick out to him
Sometimes they were romantic, making your heart stop in your chest and breath catch in your throat.
But Lucien was also a fan of satirical poetry
The most ridiculous, corny things you have ever heard.
He'll come find you as you're going about your day and recite his latest read to you - your eyes rolling to the back as you did so, yet you fail to hide the smile which crosses your face every time he does so.
He has also tried to write you poetry before, express the depth of his feelings towards you. Safe to say his lame attempt of a limerick earnt him a scoff and had you hiding all his poetry books from him for the next month.

Operation , 로몬을 사랑 —
Tumblr media
﹒ @Park Solomon ﹕☆
﹟ Summary · You, an idol, happen to get a role you jokingly applied for. Unannounced to you, someone from the cast has been wanting to know you personally for a while ㅤׂ
┆Warnings﹒Lomon's obsessed with you (in a not creepy way), the reader isn't into him though, the reader is bullied by an insert character... readers character in aouad is also an insert ♡
ᰋ. ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎Details ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ : ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎The story is about Solomon but there are parts of Su-hyeok and the reader's character in aouad (all of us are dead), I'm not sure how long this will be, the reader is a female, the reader is an idol in a fake group emanating from a fake survival show, this story isn't finished so each chapter might take a bit ‎ ‎ᰍ
꒰୨୧◞ 。Prologue⠀.ᐟ
Reader is a stunning singer and an even stronger dancer. Dancing is something she's cared about since a very young age, going to dance class 9–5 on weekends and all day after school on weekdays. Being bullied and having no friends made leaving for dance practice more enticing; even if she was tired, she never missed a day.
It was her strong suit—the first thing everyone noticed when she performed.
She appeared in the public eye for the first time on "Noa," a survival show hosted by Hybe ent in 2018. Her captivating visuals and talents amazed viewers and the eyes of 18-year-old actor Park Solomon.
He had just finished filming "Sweet Revenge" not too long ago and was to soon be starring in Lookism; he had never really cared for music survival shows or music in general. Noa just happened to be running when he had nothing else to watch. Solomon was interested in what would come from the show, especially what would come from you.
In his head, he had wished you luck in debuting; he would've voted for you, but he wasn't sure how the website worked, so he settled for silent encouragement.
Eventually, in April of 2019, you debuted in the group Seasons, a light-hearted, bubbly, girl-crush-style group, a classic concept for girl groups in 2018.
He enjoyed the debut song and added it to his favorite playlist, and that was the end of it; he didn't give much more thought to it, and that's the extent of your parasocial relationship.
-
Flash forward to early 2021, and Minju, the member of your group you knew pre-debut, was begging you to take up a role offered to you for a new zombie-thriller-style show.
Acting was never a skill you possessed, nor was it something you cared about taking up, but the director of the show told your manager you fit the visuals he had imagined for the character perfectly. With staff and members practically begging you to take it, you inevitably did. The show would start shooting later that year, which gave you time to take classes and fully understand what you were getting into.
-
Eventually, the time to start shooting came, and you got your script.
It was so much more than you assumed it would be; it was kind of stress-inducing but thrilling at the same time.
You finally step on set, ready for anything, and all you can focus on is none other than Kim Eun Ae, a mean girl from your early years of high school.
You were excited, yes, but this made this a lot harder than it should've been.

An imperfect, but still interesting ending to a rather good show
I don't consider the ending to be perfect by any means, but I think I'm far more ok with the ending than some people are. My mind is seeing this with the thought of it being some chaotic tragedy thriller.
I think it's primarily bc most (but not all!) of the things that people are frustrated with don't bother me as much. I'm ok with New and White dying. Am I upset? Oh yeah. Especially with White. That was hard to watch because I could see where it was going and I did not like it. He did not deserve to die.
At the same time, him surviving is the most obvious choice? It's satisfying. The good people live. That's how it should be. But you know who was good and died? Non. So in a way this just parallels the tragedy of Non dying. In a typical story White would live, but I guess they didn't want this to be a typical story and I respect that.
New dying and having Phee, Jin, and Tee "survive" means his revenge failed. Frustrating for the revenge enthusiasts. On that side I was never for or against it. I'm just here for the thrill of the ride, and a thrill it was. So him dying is kind of a "well that's an interesting choice" for me @ the writers. He did take people down with him in the process, so thats a positive. Tragic brothers I guess. Though New is far less innocent.
However, was it all really a failure? The ending directly states there's a strong possibility that they never actually survived for real. They don't remember escaping. So just like Non's script, nobody escapes. So at this point, it doesn't matter who "lives". They're all victims of the narrative here.
Also with the open ending.... Yeah I'm actually 100% fine with having an open ending. It's not the way I saw an open ending be portrayed (and honestly I got scared when I saw the time skip), but ok, I guess I can work with it. It leaves a lot of questions, which... isn't necessarily a bad thing, for me. Some may want closure, but I'm ok with not really knowing what happened to them.
Now for the people who survived... Tee I'm ironically the most ok with cause I predicted he'd live. For the sake of him being haunted by his regret. I originally thought it'd be more Non dying regret since all the emotions would resurface. But him stabbing his own bf to death... yeah that works ig. That's close. Probably still plagued with Non regret too, but I get White would be at the forefront of his mind.
Phee and Jin... So if this was a typical bl they'd be alive purely for shipping sake so they'd have an endgame ship. But DFF is not a typical bl, it's barely a true bl at all. They're questionably survivors. So is it about them being endgame??? I'm not sure. Is it about them bonding over realizing how they both hurt non and so they get to be aware of non haunting them. Maybe idk. Not sure what to think about them living honestly. I kinda put them as a 50/50 on surviving.
I get the frustration though. Half of me is sad my favs died. The other half is happy at seeing chaos. The two sides are fighting and I have decided to choose that enjoyed it more.

Prepare to be swept away by a heart-pounding story of love and danger. 🔫💖 Explore the captivating world of Richard Zee Kay, a hardened gangster [Ich Will MV], who finds himself captivated by you, an unexpected hostage. 😱 Will you succumb to the allure of forbidden love or fight for your freedom? 👀
(caution: this got longer and kind of different than I expected, no idea what my brain did here)
🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬
The camera pans through the reception hall of a bank - once sterile, now littered with glass shreds and rubble. Anxious hostages sit in groups on the floor, held in check by sinister-looking gangsters. The camera zooms in on a pair of black men's business shoes walking slowly over broken glass. They stop in front of the reception, camera pans upwards to the profiles of two people standing opposite each other. A man with styled raven-black hair and a shadow of a beard, and a bank employee with auburn hair, green eyes and a petrified and defiant expression on her face.
“So we meet again, little one. I'm glad to see your pretty face after such a long time.” “Why am I not surprised you didn't make the jump, Kruspe.” “After you dumped me, I didn't see the point anymore, sweetheart.” “How typical of you again. Going through with things to change your life for the better just doesn't seem to be your forte. Besides, who dumped who? An illegal weapons-deal was more important to you than your fiancée at the time, who had hoped so much that you would leave your old life behind - did that slip your mind? With your actions back then, you dug the grave of our relationship. Single-handedly. I should have known that there was no future with a notorious petty criminal, especially not for an ordinary girl.” “Now you're being unfair. You knew what a dilemma I was in back then! It was either I make the deal or three of my colleagues get wiped out. What was I supposed to do?” “You should have been honest. Less lying. More honest love. More appreciation for what's waiting for you at home than what the fucking streets and your oh so holy dark gangster world has to offer you. And now look at you. Robbing the bank where your ex works, taking innocent people hostage. How low do you want to go, Kruspe?” “When you were gone, I didn't see the point in anything anymore. I almost lost it without you! My mind went into overdrive, I just wanted to distract myself, and if that meant doing more crooked things, then so be it! I know that…if you came back to me, I would have the strength to change.” “If I had a dime for every time I had to listen to your empty promises, I would have been rich enough not to have to take this stupid bank clerk job. Do me a favor and leave the bank through the back door after your damn robbery so I don't have to watch you leave and fuck up your future again.” “…I can change. I want to change. I'm only doing this robbery because I have to. If you knew what's at stake here… When this is over, I will change.”
“….prove it to me.”

I exhaled softly as the driver holds the door open; I did a double take on the dress before walking inside the Choi villa. The villa was extraordinary; it was a pearl color with a very luxurious decor that swallows it. Making it stand out and scream rich, but elegance is essential. The heels echoing down the hall made goosebumps rise on my arms as the soft music and chattering got louder.
I halt briefly, letting my mind think this through; I let out a small sigh and shake my head as I turn around, wanting nothing more than to leave. “Y/N,” His voice, gosh, his voice made shivers run down my spine. Every time I hear it, my heart flutters a bit. I turn around to see Seungcheol in a black suit. His dark hair was slightly silk back, making him look more attractive, “Bailing on me already, sweetheart?” He asked with a smirk. I bite my lip, holding back a remark. I roll my eyes and walk over to him, “I was going to, but then I probable shouldn't leave you looking like a fool in front of your family.” I said. Seungcheol’s smirk disappears, “If you plan to act out—” I let out a small scoff. “As if, you asked for a favor, right? Then I’ll gladly do my part if you stop being an ass for the remaining night.” I said, Seungcheol rolled his eyes.
I look at the shadow getting closer to us, “Seungcheol, everyone is dying to meet Y/N; where is she-” A woman in her early twenties stops abruptly. “Wow, you look gorgeous, Seungcheol. Everyone is waiting.” The woman said, I smile. “Hi, I'm Stella, Seungcheol’s cousin. You’re the Y/N Hong; it's so lovely to meet you finally.” Stella said with a smile; I returned the smile. “Hi Stella, you look lovely, may I add,” I said. Stella lets out a giggle. Seungcheol furrowed his brow, “Come on, everyone is hoping Seungcheol will finally settle down,” Stella said. I look at Seungcheol, his hands tucked into the pockets of his trousers. I follow Stella further down the hall, “What has you tensed up, baby cousin? Shouldn't you be holding Y/N’s hand at a time like this?” Stella asked. I felt relieved that she noticed; I on the other hand wouldn't have said much.
I bite my lip as Stella turns to look at Seungcheol bitterly and crosses her arms, “I see you’re still hiding behind that arrogance,” She says. I look at Seungcheol; I shake my head lightly. Seungcheol chuckles, “Y/N is shy upon public affection display,” He said. This man has every lie and trick up his sleeves; Stella stole a glance. “But if it makes you feel better and want something to gossip about,” Seungcheol said, his distance from me disappears.
His scent intoxicates me, making my mind feel fuzzy. Shivers run down my spine at his soft touch against my waist, “Stella likes to gossip about everyone; don't mind her rudeness about certain things.” Seungcheol whispers. I smile sheepishly, “I apologize for my shyness; I'm not used to dating. Seungcheol is, in fact, my first boyfriend.” I lie, looking at Stella. Her face displays a look of shock, “Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to—” I smile and shake my head. “It's okay,” I said, Seungcheol’s grip on my waist tightness a bit.
I felt anxious as we got to the gathering; Mrs. Choi had a grin on her lips. “Y/N! Oh my god it's so lovely to see you again.” Her voice is cheerful as always; I smile as she pulls me into a light hug. “When Seungcheol finally told me about you, I have to admit I was thrilled knowing it was you.” Mrs. Choi said, I look at Seungcheol. A smile was on his lips, “Mrs. Choi it’s great to see you doing well,” I said. Mrs. Choi pulls away, “Please dear call me Mirae, you’re no longer a stranger to me.” She said. “Don this is Y/N, that wonderful woman I was telling you about.” Mirae said with a smile, a man in his mid-forties steps forward.
I can see where Seungcheol gets his intimidating looks, although Seungcheol has his mother’s eyes. “It's good to see my son finally dating,” Mr. Choi said. I smile at them. “It's great to meet you all; finally, Seungcheol has always been secretive about his family, and I can see why,” I said. Mirae laughed softly. “Gatekeeping us, are we now, Seungcheol,” Mirae said, patting Seungcheol’s arm, “Well, now it's no secret,” Seungcheol said. Mr. Choi nods, “Come, you must meet the rest of the family.” He said, extending his hand to his wife. I feel Seungcheol’s hand softly against my back. “Your parents are lovely,” I whisper, Seungcheol smiles. “Yeah, well I'm glad they're the ones you don't have to worry about.” He whispers; I felt more anxious.
“You rather let the project not proceed than get investors,” the conversions were business-related, and boy was this going to be a long night. The room was filled with well-dressed people, they all screamed rich and elegancy. Music was playing softly, “Everyone Seungcheol is here,” Mr. Choi announced. The pair of eyes were all on Seungcheol but I could feel them on me as well, I felt my breath hitch. “Seungcheol how’s business?” One of the men asked, “It's good uncle Eunho, Auntie Sekyung how are you?” Seungcheol asked.
Seeing Seungcheol this way made me realize that perhaps his arrogance is just a display, “Seungcheol, I see that you’ve brought someone.” His aunt said. Judging from how she looked at me, it wasn't a pleased look but rather a disappointing one. I gulped softly and let a smile form on my lips; I bowed at them. “Uncle, Auntie, this is Y/N Hong, my girlfriend. Y/N, this is my uncle Choi Eunho and his wife Lee Sekyung.” Seungcheol said as he extended his hand out to me; I slipped my hand into his. “Mr. Choi, Ms. Lee it's nice to meet you.” I said letting the smile remain on my lips. “How did you two meet? How long have you two been dating?” Sekyung asked, I felt pressured and light headed.
I smile faintly, “We’ve been together for two months; we turn three next month. We met through one of our friends playing Cupid” I lie, feeling less pressured when Seungcheol tightens his grip on my hand. Sekyung’s eyes searched me, head to toe. Making this feel like a job interview, it's like she’s trying to see if I'm fit for her nephew. “Well, darling, I can see why Seungcheol has eyes for you. You’re blessed from the chest to behind.” Her words made me feel uncomfortable, I could feel the other men stare at the mention of chest. “Sekyung don't go making the poor young woman uncomfortable now,” Don said with a stern tone, Sekyung forced a smile. “I apologize if I am making you uncomfortable, I was merely making sure you aren't another sex object for Seungcheol,” Sekyung said as she brought the champagne glass to her red lips, Seungcheol lets out a stiff chuckle.
“Auntie Sekyung, please, don't bring up the past,” Seungcheol said; his grip was tighter, making him slightly prick himself with a nail. I let my thumb soothe over where I had accidentally pinched him; his grip loosens. Sekyung had a faint smirk dancing on her lips, “Well then, shall we get to know Ms. Hong before the rest of the guests arrive.” Eunho said as he wrapped an arm around Sekyung. Everyone followed them out the back patio, leaving us alone. I let a small breath of relief escape my lips, “I’m so sorry about my aunt; I didn't expect her to say such things.” Seungcheol whispers as his grip is gone. I smiled softly at him as I grabbed his hand again, Sekyung is like a hawk keeping a close eye on us.
I look at his hand, ensuring the nail didn't pierce him, “Don't look, but your aunt is watching. Also, you accidentally held my hand too tight. You pricked yourself with my nail,” I whisper to him. I bring his hand to my lips, pressing a small kiss on the slightly injured area. “My oh my Y/N, oh would’ve guessed you have your ways to awe a man,” Seungcheol whispers with a smirk. I let a small laugh escape my lips; I suppressed a gasp as he wrapped his arms around my waist. Pulling me closer to him, “Maybe you’re not bad after all,” He whispers against my earlobe. His voice made my heart flip; I cleared my throat and patted his shoulder softly. “We should join your family,” I said, turning to see Sekyung turning to look away.
“She’s not looking anymore,” I whisper; Seungcheol pulls himself off me. His hand in mine once again as we make our way to the patio, “Oh Cheol, I'm so glad that you’re happy. Y/N, Don, and I were talking about inviting you over for breakfast tomorrow. Would you do us the honor?” Mirae asked with a smile. I smile and nod, “I would be honored to join you for breakfast.” I said. Mirae grins ear to ear, “Oh Seungcheol, please join us as well.” Mirae pouts at her son. Seungcheol may be an asshole, but he’s such a softie for his mother, “I will eomma.” He said with a smile.
The music seemed to have gotten a bit loud as more guests arrived, “Grandpa Dante, you're here.” Stella said as she placed her glass on the island bar. Seungcheol looked hopeless as his aunt and uncle brought his grandfather over to us; we bowed. “Grandfather, this is Y/N Hong. My girlfriend, Y/N, this is my grandfather, Choi Dante.” Seungcheol’s voice was filled with nerves, but no one seemed to notice. I let a small smile form on my lips as his grandfather nods and smiles, “Ms. Hong, I’m glad that my grandson is finally dating. Tell me is he treating you right?” Grandfather Dante asks.
I let a small laugh leave my lips, “Yes, he is; believe it or not, Seungcheol can be pretty romantic.” I said, looking at Seungcheol and his grandfather. I rubbed small soothing circles with my thumb on Seungcheol’s hand, which was shaking in my grip. “Is he now? Well, I'm glad that Seungcheol knows how to treat a woman. I hope you enjoy yourselves tonight,” Grandfather Dante said as he walked over to the group of businessmen with Sekyung and Eunho. Seungcheol lets go of my hand. “I’ll be right back,” He said; his mother and father nodded. I look at him as he loosens the tie a little before stepping inside the villa.
“Don't worry, love, you didn't do anything,” Mirae whispers as she guides me to sit down by the pit fire, “Seungcheol gets like that every time his grandfather, Eunho, and Sekyung are around. He’s only under pressure by it all.” Mirae whispers as she hands me a glass of champagne. I smile faintly as she clings her glass to mine, “To new beginnings,” She said. I bring the glass to my lips, but I feel uneasy knowing Seungcheol is inside, feeling overwhelmed. “Mrs. Choi—Mirae, is Seungcheol the eldest of the family?” I asked. Mirae shook her head. “No he’s not; he’s the youngest one. His brother Seungyeol is studying abroad and didn't want to take the business title so his grandfather appointed Seungcheol as the heir.” Mirae said.
I look at the bubbling champagne; he’s the youngest in his family. “He was appointed when he was only eighteen, so try to understand that he’s only ever known how to maintain a low profile and tends to keep to himself.” Mirae says as she pats my hand, “Can you be there for Seungcheol when he needs someone to run to?” Mirae asks. I look at her; I bite my lip. “Promise me that you will be by his side when he’s in pain, stressed, and overwhelmed,” she whispers. I smiled and held her hand, “I promise you that I’ll be the person he needs to run to,” I said. Mirae smiles, “Thank you, gosh I'm so glad that Seungcheol is dating you. I wasn't very impressed with his last girlfriend, she wasn’t the kindest person I’ve met.” She said.
I feel curiosity take over me at the mention of old girlfriend, “I just hope Seungcheol doesn't ruin this opportunity with you; Seungcheol was all over the place when his last girlfriend ended things with him.” Mirae whispers. I look at her, “Oh god, really. I can't imagine what he had gone through. Seungcheol never mentioned it before.” I whisper. Mirae sighs, “Well enough of Seungcheol, tell me more about yourself.” She says to bring the glass to her lips. I smile, “Well, where do I start? I love to read books…I enjoy cooking and baking. Hmm, I love doing what I do for work.” I said. Mirae smiled and giggled. “A woman who loves her job, reading, and cooking. Mmm, Seungcheol has indeed won me over with you.” She says; this time, I giggle.
Seungcheol…where are you? What are you doing?

"No" two letters, one syllable, that's how much Batman answered to your question. For a moment you looked at him surprised, not quite believing your ears. "No?" you asked in a whisper, anger rising in you second by second, "No?!" you stood up abruptly and measured him with a furious look, "isn't that what you do? She needs help! And you have the opportunity to help her and you refuse?!" you asked Batman, who before your eyes turned from an empathetic man into a stern, cold mythical being. He stood in front of you measuring you with an unwavering stare, while his posture betrayed no emotion, "how can you say no?!" you tried but he looked at you with eyes hidden under a mask and in an icy tone ended the discussion, "leave it or I'll have you arrested for interfering with the investigation."
Sitting back in the office, tapping angrily on the keyboard, you tried your best to focus on your work but his words still echoed in your head. The cold and harsh tone of his voice, the threat of arrest, the last glance, his shape looming faintly in the sky as he rose above the rooftops. At that moment, when you asked him for help, you were sure he would agree. After all, you had spent two weeks reading incessantly about how much good he had done for the city, how many people he had helped, how many he had saved, how he had restored hope in the hearts of Gothamites. The words Batman and hope so often appeared side by side, and yet, he refused.
Days had passed since that evening and yet, the echo of his words refused to leave you. Days have passed since you went back to work and yet, every day your own words echoed in your head. "I can't just go back to work and normal life," you said, and each passing day convinced you more and more of the truth of your words. When you first stood in front of the majestic Wayne Enterprises building more than two months ago, you felt joy and excitement. With your eyes open, you were daydreaming your bright future, the growth opportunities you would get, the possibilities to build your new life. Now, as you sat in front of your computer, you felt trapped, like an animal that had tasted a little freedom only to find itself caged again. The numbers didn't line up in equations, the drawings of the project didn't look perfect, and your focus kept slipping away with a longing look out the window. For the world outside the window was frightening, it was full of horrible people doing nightmarish things, but it was also thrilling, alluring, exhilarating. What was mundane work, even for a prominent company like Wayne Enterprises, compared to loud stuffy clubs, to chases with a gun put to your forehead, to late-night strolls along the bank of the bridge, to long fascinating conversations over a mug of coffee when everyone had gone to bed, to the feeling of flying when you soared above the surface of the water in Batman's arms. Some part of you felt ashamed to admit it, but secretly, you longed for it. You longed for that feeling of wild freedom, for the threat that could end your life in the blink of an eye, for the adrenaline pumping through your veins, for the cool thrill of excitement every time he spoke in a cold stern tone. Batman. He possessed your every thought causing you to follow the news every day, forcing you to go out to the observation deck after work every evening longingly looking out for his symbol in the night sky, causing you to replay your encounters over and over again even while at work. Every gesture he made, every step he took, every word he said to you was imprinted in your mind and you could once again see clearly the contradictions colliding with each other. Because in your eyes, Batman was just that, a clash of contrasts like all of Gotham. The Dark Knight, the crime-fighting vigilante bringing pale terror to the faces of criminals by his mere appearance. A defender who put his life on the line to protect those who could not protect themselves. Manece, capable of knocking down several armed assailants in the blink of an eye. A savior, diving into the depths to save the life of a stranger. There was strength and authority in him, under which even his partners yielded, but also kindness and concern, which he did not have to show at all. There was something else, something infuriating, something that wouldn't let you just "go back to normal life." Something that made you stare mindlessly at the computer screen instead of paying attention to your surroundings, oblivious to the approaching footsteps.
"Good morning," a soft voice snapped you out of your thoughts.
"Mr. Wayne," you whispered surprised raising your gaze above the computer screen. Bruce Wayne, stood in the doorway of your office, with a barely discernible smirk wandering across his face. He leaned against the doorframe with his hands nonchalantly shoved in the pockets of his perfectly tailored black suit, and you couldn't help but wonder how long he had been looking at you like that, "I'm sorry, I didn't hear you coming," you stood up abruptly, realizing that it wasn't polite to sit in the presence of the company's CEO.
"It's okay," he replied maintaining a gentle tone, "I saw you were busy, I didn't want to interrupt you. Lucius reported that since you came back from sick leave you are not allowing yourself to be sent home and you are working for twelve hours a day."
"I thought I was contracted for non-regular, task-based working hours," you replied maintaining a professional tone, "I didn't think that would be a problem."
"It's not a problem," he replied softly, "don't get me wrong, I'm glad you're feeling well after that terrible accident you had. But that doesn't change the fact that your engagement caught Lucius' attention, and consequently mine."
"I have wasted enough time…"
"You suffered an accident, a fortuitous situation. You can't hold that against yourself. None of us do."
"And yet I feel I must make up for it," you replied stiffly. Bruce merely continued to stand leaning against the door and looked at you intently, "Excuse me for asking Mr. Wayne, but what brings you here? It seemed to me that the CEO has more important things on his mind than keeping an eye on lower-level employees."
"I'm not checking on you, not on your work to be precise," he replied shortly, "I pay close attention to Wayne Tech, I'm sure I told you that. Besides, I wanted to see how you were doing," he took two steps inside your office and pushed the door behind him without closing it completely, "I hope you don't mind."
"No, not at all," you replied with a smile yet you struggled to hide the irritation caused by his sudden appearance, "this is your company."
"But your office," he smirked, "so, how do you feel Y/N? To be injured in a car accident, that must have been horrible," the blue eyes watched carefully as if observing your reaction.
"Unexpected, that's for sure," you replied, "but I feel fine, physically at least. My shoulder still hurts, but the doctors said that's normal with joint damage. And I'm managing with the rest, a friend is helping me."
"I'm glad to hear it," he replied sincerely, "if you need anything…"
"I'm fine, Mr. Wayne," you interrupted him.
"I thought we were past that," the smirk returned to his face, arching a surprised brow.
"We're at work," you replied in a hushed tone, "forgive me if I don't feel comfortable addressing the company CEO by his first name on professional grounds."
"Forgiven," the discreet smirk irritated unbearably, "speaking of professional ground, wouldn't you mind sharing with me what you're working on?"
"Sure," you replied shortly and sat down at your desk, "this is just the start of a project. Mr. Fox gave me a few others to choose from but the events of the last few days inspired me to do something else," you explained as you opened the files and arranged them across the three monitors. Bruce made his way through the office and stood behind your chair, bringing with him the energizing scent of fresh citrus, smoothed by woody and musky notes.
"Some kind of detection system?" he asked leaning closer to the computer screen, placing one hand on the desk the other resting on the back of your chair. The scent of his fragrance lingered in your nose sharpening your senses, making you hyperaware of yourself. "Does this dress show too much cleavage? I forgot to put on my bracelets. Why do I have such a mess on my desk? I should straighten up, I hunch over. My hands look awful with these bloody cuticles," the thoughts ran rapidly through your mind, one after another.
"That's right," you said focusing on the design displayed on the screen, "but not some kind of. A system designed to detect increased activity in the city meant to warn Gotham citizens of a potential threat," you explained.
"May I?" Bruce asked, gently taking the mouse from you, "continue please," he encouraged while clicking through the project files.
"My recent accident as well as the events of the last few weeks that have been talked about in the news inspired this idea in my mind. First the shootout at the docks, then the Joker's escape from Asylum and the chase through central Gotham. Miraculously, only three people were injured…"
"How do you know?" he glanced at you out of the corner of his eye.
"I've been reading online," you replied evasively, "anyway, it all gave me an idea. What if we created a system to detect increased activity in the city that could send alerts to the people of Gotham warning them of potential danger?"
"You'd want to use telecommunication boxes, traffic lights, and radio towers for this," he analyzed points plotted on a map of Gotham.
"Wayne Tech owns most of the telecommunications and radio network in the city," Bruce nodded confirming, "we could use the already existing points spread throughout the city. On top of that, we could install the system in traffic lights, CCTV cameras and coordinate everything by triangulating the signal to the radio towers," you continued to explain.
"What would be detected?"
"At first, I thought to base the system on existing in the city speed limits and coordinate them with traffic lights. In case the limit was significantly exceeded and the registered vehicle ignored the traffic light, the sensors would send a signal to a radio tower, which in turn, coordinated with the telecommunications network, would send out alerts to citizens," you took the mouse out of Bruce's hand and clicked through several files, presenting a diagram of how the sensors would work, "this solution, however, seemed too flawed to me."
"Detecting every increased traffic would send too many irrelevant notifications unnecessarily spreading panic…"
"Exactly! So then I thought about adding a camera system and face detection software, but I think the city government and some of its people could find that…"
"Unethical…" he finished for you.
"Yup!" you confirmed and smiled faintly seeing his visible interest, "having crossed out these two solutions, I started to think what else could be detected. I thought of detecting sounds and the air's chemical composition," Bruce shifted positively surprised blue eyes from the computer screen to you, "criminals are unlikely to operate silently. This method may be flawed, but by my calculations, it has at least a 65% success rate. Sound detection based on specific sound waves to eliminate accidental detection. Sound waves such as those emitted by screeching tires, gunfire, the shouting crowd, the sound of shattering glass, an explosion."
"What about detecting a chemical alteration of the air?" he asked without breaking eye contact.
"An additional precaution to eliminate accidental detections. We would have to design really accurate and sensitive sensors, able to detect the slightest change in the air but based on its chemical composition. I was thinking that the sensors could detect gun smoke fumes, chemicals released during explosions, carbon, nitrogen, nitroglycerine, mercury fulminate, lead styphnate," you listed, "we could present the design to the police and get the chemical composition of the toxins the Joker has used in the past. I was thinking that one more safety feature could be added in the form of supersonic sensors to detect blast waves in an area, but I don't have that worked out yet."
"You worked it all out in four days?"
"I've been working too much," you smiled playfully, "I know that's not what I was supposed to do but…"
"This is good," he interrupted you, "really good."
"You think so?" excitement crept into your professional tone.
"Yeah, really impressive," he returned his eyes to the screen, "it requires the development of new technologies, especially sensors, but the idea itself is really impressive."
"I know it would require a lot of financial resources to implement the project, but if you give me the green light I will refine it! I'll develop new technologies, design the required components, plan tests and proofing methods, sparse risk levels and an implementation plan," seeing his interest you didn't hesitate, "Bruce! Imagine how many needless accidental casualties we could avoid with such a system! We could deploy the system to hospitals, the police and the emergency services, thereby improving response. We could design a mobile application for smartphones, voluntary to install, thus avoiding unnecessary dissenting voices and unfavorable public opinion that would probably want to turn this against us and argue it as an infringement! Bruce! Every time when something bad happened in the city people could just stay home and avoid the danger!"
"You've really thought it all through," he smiled fondly.
"I've had a lot of time to think lately," you replied innocently, "what you think?"
"Keep working on it," he replied, "you have the green light. I'll inform Lucius not to assign you any additional work for the next few months."
"Yes!" escaped happily, "sorry, but I'm really glad that you approve of my idea."
"And I'm really glad that I hired you," he replied straightening up, "send it all to me please. To me and to Lucius. I'd like to study your concept in detail," he added heading back toward the door, "good work."
"Thanks!" the wide smile didn't disappear from your face, "you'll have a link to the share drive tonight."
"Speaking of tonight," he stopped in mid-step, "I still owe you a stroll," he added softly.
You blushed not knowing what to answer. The sudden change in tone and direction of the conversation completely threw you off balance.
"Bruce… I'm sorry but I think this time I'll ask for a raincheck," you replied hesitantly, "don't get me wrong but after my accident, somehow, damn…" you stumbled over your words.
"What about dinner, then?" he asked and that rage-inducing smirk crept onto his face again, "Saturday night?"
Tumblr media
"Bruce, you're my boss…"
"Lucius Fox is your boss, I just sign papers and spend money," he smiled wider, "Italian or Asian?"
"Italian," you smiled meekly, "after last weeks Asian is enough for me for the next six months."
"Italian it is," he agreed, "I'll pick you up at let's say 6 pm," he added, then without waiting for your answer he left your office leaving you confused, shocked and happy.
"Bastard is smooth…" you chuckled to yourself in disbelief at what had just happened, "damn smooth…."

Twelve miles southeast of Gotham in the Bristol Township amidst the towering hills and green woods a lonely Wayne Manor stood. Huge, lavish, majestic, a symbol of wealth and prosperity hidden deep within the estate behind an iron gate decorated with a stylized W at its top. To casual eyes, it seemed to be a Gothic palace, with beautifully ornate carved walls, and perfectly preserved architecture, surrounded by a beautifully tended garden. For some Gothamites, it was just one of the city's many Gothic buildings, for others it was an unshakeable memory of the great men who had been taken by the city's darkness and whose memory continued to live on in the hearts of many. Yet only a few knew its true meaning. For behind the perfectly painted richly decorated walls hid something more than prosperity and wealth. Beneath the arched vaulted ceiling, below the polished wooden and marble floors, below the firmly set foundations, countless caves spread. Once raw, wet and cold, they had been transformed by a young man who decided a few years back to change Gotham forever. The smaller caves were combined into one huge one, stretching underneath the entire mansion. Stone obtained from the reconstruction was used for creating various elevations and passageways. The natural structure of the cave was preserved but the flow of water was modified, leading all the streams down a single torrent towards the entrance, which in turn was converted into a waterfall hiding behind a driveway. Electricity and heating were brought in. An elevator was installed connecting the property to the cave as well as multiple minor entrances. Digitization was introduced, monitoring and many safety features were installed. Not one, not two, but three training rooms were created, and a special augmented reality simulation room was designed. Some of the natural rocky hollows were transformed into a medical wing, another into a workshop, and another into a laboratory. A huge computer was installed, multiple vehicles were brought in and in time even a small kitchen was arranged. For overtime, the cave became a home not only for one determined young man but for four more. Each so different from the other, each with a different past and different baggage of experience, all united in one goal, to make Gotham safe, to protect those who could not protect themselves.
Life for the men living in Wayne Manor was not easy. Years passed, years spent in sacrifices, devotion, and constant work. Years of loneliness and a sense of belonging. Years of frustration and joy. Years of anger, angst, grief, and understanding. Years of loyalty and love, even if none of them would admit it out loud. Years full of pain and suffering but also joy and warmth. Years kinder to some than to others. But can one speak of the kindness of fate when each of them bore on their bodies and souls countless wounds and scars like badges from battles fought? Can one speak of the kindness of fate when some carried within themselves wounds so deep that it seemed they would never heal?
In the empty cave music echoed from one of the training rooms. The loud deep beats blended together with the sound of fists hitting the punching bag repeatedly. 'Till the roof comes off, 'till the lights go out 'Till my legs give out, can't shut my mouth fists hit the bag rhythmically again and again. Right punch, kick from the knee, left punch, kick, elbow, kick. 'Till the smoke clears out, am I high? Perhaps I'ma rip this shit, 'till my bone collapse sweat poured down Jason's forehead but he didn't stop. He pounded the bag repeatedly and the swollen muscles pulsed under the tight T-shirt. Fist, elbow, kick, right fist, left fist alternating, faster, faster, harder, faster, kick, knee kick, fists again, alternating, as if his life depended on it. 'Till the roof comes off, 'till the lights go out 'Till my legs give out, can't shut my mouth anger, frustration, pain poured out in a hail of strikes.
"I think this bag has had enough Jason," Dick said in a raised voice observing his brother, "don't you want to change the bag to a living target?"
"Go away Grayson," Jason growled without interrupting his strikes.
"I'm just sayin'! A living target is better than a training bag! Promise I'll go easy on you!" Dick's unbearably cheerful tone irritated Jason.
"I don't need a training partner," Jason breathed out through clenched teeth without even looking at him.
"Come on Jay! Let's agree that I need a workout!"
"Then find Drake or little brat," right fist, left, kick, elbow, kick.
"I rather spare with you!"
"I said go away."
"Dude, don't make me beg!"
"Fuck off Grayson!!!" Jason yelled sending the bag ripped from its hanger with a thump through the room, "I won't train with you when I'm in like this cos I'll fucking massacre you!" Panting heavily he finally looked at his brother. To his surprise Dick was not smiling, concern and worry were painted on his face. He took a few steps toward his brother and handed him a towel and a water bottle.
"No, I don't want to talk about it," Jason snarled, downing the entire bottle in one gulp.
"I'm not saying anything!" Dick raised his hands defensively.
"You don't have to!" Jason growled angrily, "you've got this look on your face!"
"What look?"
"The one you give to little shitheads from Brat Justice Leauge! The one that says I'm your friend and mentor you can talk to me," Jason mimicked Dick in a mocking tone.
"Dude I'm just worried about you, that's all..." Dick kept his voice calm, knowing very well how to talk to his brother.
Tumblr media
"Then don't! Just fuck off! I don't need your pity!" anger burned in Jason's eyes.
"Jay, you are boiling with rage…"
"What a fucking discovery mister detective!!! Wow!!! Just wow!!! Fucking brilliant detective work!!!"
"Jay…" Dick tried to interrupt him but it was too late. Jason's remnants of self-control were gone, the barriers let go.
"And how the fuck would you feel in my place?! How would you feel?! Every fucking time the Joker shows up, the fucker benches me! Every fucking time! Because what?! Because I can't handle it?! Because I can't handle the Joker?! Because he doesn't trust me?! Because he thinks I'm weak and I'll fucking break as soon as I face the fucking clown!!!"
"No, Jason!" Dick interrupted him abruptly, "Bruce doesn't think you can't handle it! None of us thinks so! Just the opposite…"
"What?! He's afraid I'm going to fucking kill him!"
"Jason…"
"I should do it! I should kill the fucking clown! I should fuck him up with a fucking crowbar, just like he fucked me up!!!! I should do it because neither Bruce nor any of you have the balls to do it! Because your precious moral code doesn't allow you to do it! But it did allow you to have the Joker kill me!!!" Jason grabbed his brother by the shirt and pulled him violently towards him, "I should do it. Not a day goes by that I don't dream about it. I should repay him with death for death. But I won't do it!!! But I won't fucking do it even though I want it and even though he deserves it! I won't do it because I'm not like him!!!"
With his hands gripped on Dick's shirt and his face red from anger, Jason was breathing heavily, and even though he was shouting the rage in his eyes was beginning to dim. For as he looked into his brother's eyes he saw only sympathy, concern and understanding and something much more important to him, trust.
"Better?" Dick asked quietly.
"Fuck you," Jason chuckled but this time a faint smile swept across his face. He let his brother go and proceeded to collect the ripped bag from the floor.
"Good, because we got work to do."
"Suit up?"
"Yup!"
"What's the job?"
"Tim and I interviewed Elliot Mercy employees, but they didn't tell us anything interesting. Crane, on the other hand, hasn't appeared at the hospital or at his home for several days. We need to track him down and interrogate him."
"You and I?"
"Not this time," Dick replied sensing his brother's impending second wave of rage, "You and Damian are tasked with observing the hospital and Crane's home."
"Stakeout with little batbrat? You must be shitting me!"
"Dude, work with me here!"
"What about you?"
"Tim and I have other job to do,". Dick replied evasively hoping Jason wouldn't ask for details.
"You are going after the Joker…" Dick was wrong.
"After Harleen Quinzel more than the Joker but yes."
"And what about Mr. Brooding?"
"Bruce is investigating Arkham," Dick replied, "Dr. Quinzel worked there for almost two years. There is a lot to investigate at Arkham."
"So I'm stuck with babysitting on a stakeout…" Jason muttered with resignation, hanging the bag back on the hook.
"Please don't kill him," Dick chuckled, "One dead Robin in the family is enough."
"Very funny Grayson, very fucking funny…."
Yet they both laughed, understanding very well how much self-control Damian sometimes required of them. Understanding very well that in the presence of death sometimes there is nothing left to do but simply laugh in her face.

Batman deeply wanted to share Y/N's belief in Dr. Harleen Quinzel's innocence. His memory was still vividly alive with situations from the past in which he himself had first assumed the innocence of a potential criminal, only to later realize painfully his mistake. He was young then and his head was filled with idealistic ideas and the belief that people deep down are good, only the situations they find themselves in do not allow goodness to flourish. Years passed, and he learned. He learned painfully from his own experiences, and he learned through the experiences of others. He hardened his body, honed his mind, learned to rely on his intuition, learned to see the facts as they were, without embellishing them with needless ideology. Years passed and he changed, his view of the world changed, his view of people changed, his approach to the mission changed. Still, one thing never changed. He always believed that the people deep inside were actually good, that he could help them. And he tried. He tried until no illusion remained. He tried until no other choice remained.
As he walked through the dark corridors of the Intensive Treatment Center, he looked sadly at the cells of all those he had failed and he could not help but wonder if each of them was a lost cause. He knew their stories, he knew the cause-and-effect sequence that led them to where they were now, but still he pondered who they would have been had they made different choices. Who would Victor Zsasz be if he hadn't lost millions in a casino and started murdering people arguing that he was "liberating" others from their pointless existence? How much good could Jervis Tetch, a brilliant neuroscientist, have done for the world if he hadn't gone on a homicidal spree driven by delusions and psychotic manic depression. Would Dr. Robert Langstrom have made a scientific breakthrough had it not been for the experiments he conducted on himself that eventually turned him into a humanoid bat-like monster and led to the death of his wife? How much good could Harvey Dent have done for the city as an amiable and courteous district attorney had it not been for the acid thrown in his face by Sal Maroni? Could the rise of others like Mad Hatter, Man-Bat, Two Face have been prevented? The latter particularly saddened Bruce; after all, they were once friends. Walking into Harleen Quinzel's former office, he wanted nothing more than for Y/N to be right.

Dick remembered very well the glory days of the Amusement Mile. The times when the Mile was bustling with life, laughter and joy, resounding with music and lighting up the neighborhood in all the colors of the rainbow. He remembered the times when families came with laughing children to ride the carousels, to feel the adrenaline rush while riding on roller coasters, to see the city from the top of the Ferris wheel. He remembered clubs bustling with music, theaters filled with artists, cinemas overflowing with viewers. He remembered the crowds of excited spectators filling the benches of Haly's Circus which was stationed on the shore of the bay. He remembered donning a shiny, tight red and white costume every night to swing with his parents on trapezes suspended from the ceiling, performing intricate acrobatic tricks to the delight of the crowd. It was the latter that Dick remembered very well, as well as his parents' dead bodies lying ten feet below him.
Only a painful memory remained of the past. The Amusement Mile was long forgotten, consumed by time, rust and decay. Once vibrant with life it now stood abandoned, silent, only occasionally whining metallically under the pressure of the wind. It once brought laughter and joy, but now the only laughter to be found in it was the distorted maniacal laughter of the only clown left in it.
"You okay?" Tim asked glancing stealthily at his brother.
"Why wouldn't I be?"
"Well…you know…" Tim didn't want to state the obvious.
"I'm fine Robin," Dick forced himself to smile, hoping to look sincere, "honestly, I'm fine."
"I wouldn't be," Tim replied zooming in on the entrance, " One time I wandered in there you know? I never told you that. Did you know in some parts of a mile you can still find posters?"
Tumblr media
"I know," Dick replied shortly, "there was a time I wanted to burn them all."
"What happened?"
"Batman made me realize that wasn't the healthiest thing to do."
"How does he do that?"
"Do what?"
"He acts as if nothing moves him. As if he has everything under control."
"He doesn't have everything under control," Dick countered, "he tries, but it's not possible, even for him."
"Then why pretend?"
"It's not about pretending Tim," Dick lowered his voice addressing his brother by name, "this is about us. About you, Jason, Damian, and me. I think he's doing this for us. That he has decided in his mind that he needs to be strong so that we could be strong too."
"But displaying emotions is not a sign of weakness," Tim argued.
"You and I both know that," Dick chuckled, "But you know how he is. I'm not sure there's anything that could change him. He carries too much."
"But you are so much like him and yet so much different," Tim continued scanning his surroundings, "You have a life beyond the mission. People you care about. You have Barbara, and you guys somehow made this work! And I see how happy you are together!"
"Don't think that is all sunshine and rainbows! We've got our problems and it can be challenging at times."
"But you make this work!"
"Are you implying that Bruce needs a woman?" Dick chuckled.
"I'm not implying anything but even Joker got himself a girlfriend," Tim rightly pointed out straightening up from his squat, "and there she is…"
The door of one of the buildings opened revealing a female figure. Dressed in a tight-fitting red and black outfit, with two braids tied at the sides of her head, with a gun attached to her thigh, she wielded a baseball bat in her hands.

Jason hated many things in life. He hated the color green because it reminded him of the years he spent alongside Batman as Robin. He hated the sound of metal scratching against the pavement because it reminded him of things he preferred to forget. He hated it when the v-belt of his motorcycle jammed, hated the punctured tires as they bent the rims. He hated it when someone disturbed his reading, he hated black coffee, he hated pineapple on pizza, and above all he hated hospitals. Sitting on the roof of a building overlooking Elliot Memorial Hospital, he slowly realized another thing he hated, stakeout. Hours passed, every position he tried became uncomfortable, and Crane didn't show up.
Tumblr media
"So, father assigned you with me so you wouldn't get yourself killed by going after Joker," Damian started the conversation as he scanned the hospital windows one by one, "If you ask me, I don't understand father's hesitance toward killing. It's the most effective way of dealing with criminals. Hundred percent success rate."
"I didn't," Jason muttered.
"If you think about it father doesn't at all bring the change he would like to bring for the city. He's only minimizing it temporarily, but the threat comes back sooner or later anyway. It's not a very impressive tactic." for a 15-year-old, Damian was haughty and snarky, in a tone of voice indicating his superiority over others.
"No one asked you for your opinion."
"Mistake. My grandfather has a much better approach from a tactical point of view. Complete eradication of the threat at the source."
"Ra's al Ghul would have happily slaughtered hundreds and thousands of innocents if he had any reason to do so," Jason growled, "The Lazarus Pit perverted his mind. Even you must see that."
"Lazarus Pit brought you back to life," Damian pointed out, "my grandfather didn't have to do that and yet…"
"Listen, kid! I didn't ask to be resurrected! Ra's al Ghul hoped to bring me back to life and create for himself the perfect soldier, which he failed to do. There was no moral virtue in it! Mere calculation and cold logic!"
"He is a great tactician."
"For fuck sake can you just please shut up!" Jason cast a warning glance, "your name is Wayne, isn't it! So think about it, who are you? Are you Damian Wayne, the son of Bruce Wayne? Or are you Demon Head descendant, grandson of Ra's al Ghul?"
"I'm both…" the confidence suddenly vanished from Damian's voice, giving way to downright childlike embarrassment.
"You can't be both," Jason stated, "You're smart kid, too smart for your own good. Think about it, can you really be both? You're here, with me, proudly wearing Robin's outfit, and at the same time you're bullshitting about how you don't like your father's tactics."
"I thought that who like who but you would understand…" Damian tried explaining quietly.
"I understand. But no matter how much I sometimes resent him, and how much I sometimes disagree with his approach, and how much I sometimes wish he would behave differently…." Jason hesitated for a moment and sighed heavily, "no matter how hard it is for me to admit it, but Batman is right."
"It's not like you Todd," Damian quipped.
"Maybe not," Jason admitted, "but sometimes you have to shove your pride up your ass and admit someone else is right."
"From a strategic point of view…" Damian began again in a haughty tone but Jason didn't let him finish. He stood up abruptly throwing a loud for fuck sake, then began to walk away at a quick pace. "Where are you going!" Damian called out after him, "Hood! Where are you going!?"
"Far away from here!"
"But Batman clearly…"
"Crane is obviously a no-show!" he turned on his heel to face his younger brother, "my ass froze to concrete! Fuck it! I'm outta here!"
"But Batman clearly gave us instructions!"
"If you want you can stay. Do I tell you to follow me," Jason growled.
"And where are you going!?"
"I'm going after Wing and Red."

Meanwhile, in another part of the city
The white light was hurting your eyes making keeping them open impossible. A huge lamp shone straight at your face, blinding you, hiding everything around you from sight. The light was irritating, causing your eyes to water. You wanted to push it away, smash it, you couldn't. You yanked with one hand, then the other, to no avail. You couldn't move. You moved your wrists and felt the material tightly wrapped around them. You tried to pull yourself up, you couldn't. You were weak, helpless. You wanted to speak but instead of words, a pitiful moan came out. You tried to scream but your voice seemed trapped in your throat. You were choking, the tube pushed deep down your throat made it impossible to breathe. Fright overwhelmed you completely. You tried to get up but someone's hand held you tight.
"She's waking up," came as if from afar.
"Too early…" replied another.
Stinging in the hollow of your hand, a burning sensation like acid spread through your veins. You cried out. Darkness followed.
*
You pulled yourself upright drenched in sweat. For a moment you lost your sense of time and space blinking intensely trying to find anker with reality.
"Breath steady, everything is fine, you are safe," Jonathan grabbed you gently by the shoulders and force you to look at him, "do you know where you are?" he asked softly.
"Yes…" you whispered anchoring yourself in his eyes, "we are in your laboratory."
"Good. Now breathe calmly," he instructed.
"Easier said than done," you chuckled, "since the accident I've been dreaming the same dream, alternating with other nightmares. Every goddamned night."
Jonathan handed you a glass of water and helped you sit down comfortably. You placed your bare feet on the soft carpet thus making sure you were not still dreaming. For a laboratory, the room you were in was uncharacteristically cozy. If it weren't for the medical equipment, ECG monitor and electroencephalogram you were hooked up to, you might have thought you were in a cozy living room with a curved chaise longue and soft fluffy carpet. The design was reminiscent of his office where you met regularly for weeks. Suspicion crept into your head at the realization that Crane had two nearly identical offices in two different parts of the city. Nevertheless, you didn't have time to dwell on it, you were here for another purpose.
"Tell me what you were dreaming about," he instructed in a gentle voice.
"It's hard to say…" you tried to gather your thoughts but your mind seemed as if behind a fog, "I was in some room, a hospital maybe? I couldn't see much because the lamp above my head was shining in my face, blinding me. I tried to struggle but I was tied up. I couldn't see but I think it was the operating table."
"That would explain the spikes on your EEG," he stated, looking at a printout from the machine, "what happened next?"
"I couldn't speak, I had an oxygen tube in my throat," you continued, "and there was someone else there. At least two people. I couldn't see their faces. One held me down and the other gave me the injection," you involuntarily touched the deepening in your arm and to your surprise you felt a small pinprick under your finger, "what the hell!"
"I had to give you a sedative because your heart was racing at over 200 beats per minute," Crane explained, seeing your shocked look.
"Then I woke up…"
"Continuing the test was a threat to your life, we can't risk that," he explained handing you two pills.
"What are those?" you asked uncertainly.
"I thought we trusted each other," green eyes glared above his glasses, "something to calm your heart rate and iron. I need to take your blood for testing," he explained before walking over to you, putting his hand on your shoulder and gently forcing you to lie down again, "relax," he smiled, "I promise to be gentle."
"You better!" you replied with a frail smile and straightened your right arm exposing a vein, "I have an important meeting tomorrow, I don't want to be forced to cover the bruises!"
"And what is this important meeting?" Crane asked tightly clenching the belt above the hollow of your arm.
"That's something you don't need to know about," you smirked, grimacing simultaneously when the needle pierced your skin, "and don't start again with confidence and full transparency! Some things I must keep to myself, and I assure you they have nothing to do with my problems."
"So sure you are able to assess that?" he glanced at you.
"Yup!" you smiled widely, "one hundred percent sure! My problems apparently come from the past and tomorrow's meeting has nothing to do with it."
"If you say so…" he relented while gently removing the needle from your hand, "all done. There's not even a trace."
"You're lucky!"
For a moment you watched the professor as he busied himself around the equipment. He tightly secured the blood vial and labeled it with a date sticker, tore the printouts off the machine and folded them methodically placing them in one of the drawers, then returned to you and began detaching you from the machine. First, he gently removed the sensor grid fitted on your head, carefully so as not to tug your hair, then proceeded to remove the electrodes from your chest and ribs. You watched him. Undressed from the waist up, lying in front of him in nothing but a bra, you didn't feel ashamed; after all, he was a doctor, and he also maintained complete professionalism, focusing his gaze alternately on the electrodes and on your eyes.
"I'd like you to add to your evening medications, two more," he informed, removing the last electrode and handing you your blouse, "one that will help you sleep better, and the other is simply iron."
"Am I to understand that we plan to draw my blood more often?"
"It is imperative. We are subjecting your body to a strong chemical influence. It's my duty to monitor the changes on a regular basis and react accordingly should anything alarming occur."
"Sure," you nodded in agreement and put on your blouse, "Do you think it happened?" you asked, then added upon noticing his puzzled look, "I mean my dream. Do you think it happened?"
"And what do you think?"
"I'm not sure…"
Jonathan only sat down next to you, looked deep into your eyes, and placed his hand on yours as if to assure you.
Tumblr media
"We can't conclude anything after one session, but don't worry, I promised to help you didn't I?"
"That you did," you smirked in response. "Not like him…."

Contrary to popular opinion, which was often expressed by his boys, Batman did not like to always be right. For two weeks he kept returning to Arkham Asylum, for two weeks every night he hoped to finally find evidence that he was wrong. He hoped for it when he analyzed the breach in the wall in the Joker's cell that strangely reached toward the floor and below. He hoped for it when he forcibly interrogated the inmates, when he talked to the Arkham staff, when he surveyed Dr. Quinzel's office, when he calmly listened to the arguments of Warden Quincy Sharp, who tried at all costs to keep him out of the Penitentiary's lower levels. However, as he stood in the room hidden deep in the lower levels of Intensive Treatment, from which, as it turned out, the explosion had been initiated a few days ago, he could not help but feel disappointment, sadness even, that Y/N's faith in human goodness had lost in the battle against his suspicion of human intentions. "Perhaps if Y/N had arrived earlier in Gotham, Dr. Quinzel would have changed her plans in time, perhaps she would have turned back, perhaps she would not have made the choices she made…" he wondered.
The evidence was unmistakable, the breach in the wall, the traces of blood splattered on the floor, the bullet holes, the knocked-out teeth in the corner of the room that no one has cleaned up till now, the photos and plans hung on the wall, all of it left no doubt, that Y/N was right about one thing. Dr. Quinzel was a victim. A victim who, like all the others he passed along the way, had been harmed by the circumstances in which she found herself, by the man she met on her path, by the choices she made because of him. But instead of running away, instead of turning back, instead of seeking help, she gave in to madness.
"Are you getting this Oracle?" Batman murmured seemingly to himself, yet the voice in the earpiece answered almost immediately.
"Every single bit," Oracle confirmed, "enough evidence to convict her."
Batman squatted wordlessly over a fragment of the detonator that had not been destroyed but had merely flown off to the other end of the room during the explosion.
"I'm sending you more fingerprints for analysis…"
"Sloppy job," Barbara replied, analyzing the image from his camera displayed on the computer on the other side of the city, "the bomb must have been unstable, and constructed in haste, or without much knowledge, that's why the fuse flew off instead of being destroyed," she assessed with confidence, "Batman, those marks on the wall…. blood…"
"The pattern and direction of the spatter, as well as the amount of blood on the wall, suggests that the blows were inflicted with something very heavy and with a wide sweep…" Batman assessed as he stood up from his squat and approached the wall again.
"Could a petite woman have hit a large bodyguard with enough force to knock his teeth out?" Oracle questioned.
"You could," Batman noted, "And you wouldn't need a heavy tool to do it."
"True, but I was trained."
"We don't have enough information on Quinzel to be able to rule out training or the presence of a metagen. The evidence is clear," Batman straightened up and retreated to the entrance of the room placing himself in a way that allowed his eyes, and therefore the camera, to capture an accurate image and send it to the computer, "Dr. Quinzel used this room for months, maybe longer. On the day of the Arkham breakout, she came here from the main corridor of Intensive Treatment and detonated a charge placed on the east wall," he trailed his eyes to the breach.
"The fingerprints match…" Oracle interrupted him upon seeing the results of the analysis.
"Arkham's security guards must have known or at least suspected something because they resisted and tried to stop her," he ran his eyes over the wall, "shots were fired, I assume they were aimed at her…"
"Frank Nelson who was on shift that night is in a clinical coma, we can't verify that," Oracle's voice in the headset interrupted his thoughts, "his weapon was not found."
"It doesn't matter," Batman continued, "bullet marks on the wall suggest a tracking pattern. The guard fired, Quinzel dodged the bullets," he paused with his eyes on the traces of splattered blood, "she reduced the distance separating them and overpowered Nelson with a strong blow with a heavy tool made from a sweep, rendering him unconscious."
"Analysis of the tooth found matches dental records. Well, and there's also the fact that Nelson actually has several of them knocked out."
"We need to find her and stop her," Batman stated thus completing the analysis, "Oracle, give me a status update on Nightwing and Red Hood."
"Dick and Tim are in the Amusement Mile and Jason and Damian are on the move…" Barbara replied almost immediately, "Dick, report!" Batman heard a beep in his intercom and after a brief moment a second voice.
"Nightwing to Oracle. We have eyes on Quinzel. Over."
"Do not engage!" Batman spoke, "Stay out of site. Follow and observe. Hopefully, she will lead us to Joker."
"Copy that!" Nightwing confirmed.
"Dick! Consider her highly dangerous and be careful. If she tires to run, detain her."
*
On the way from Crane's office, you couldn't stop thinking about the situation you were in. Events followed one after another and it seemed you had no control over them. "This was supposed to be a new beginning, the beginning of a bright new future…" you recalled the optimistic thoughts that filled your mind when you first set foot in Gotham City. But Gotham City turned out to have other plans for you.
"How did I get here?" you wondered. Between the Joker and Harleen and Batman and Bruce Wayne, between near-death experiences and sessions with Professor Crane, in an endless loop of constantly recurring nightmares, attempts to contact Harleen and the bold decision to go out for dinner with Bruce Wayne. "What am I doing?" you questioned your choices while swallowing one of the green pills you got from Crane. This wasn't your style. Just a few weeks ago, the vision of seeing Bruce Wayne at the office gave you heart palpitations, and talking to him on the observation deck brought a strange excitement that you tried with all your might to hide. But when he mentioned a walk you didn't refuse because you were afraid, you refused because decency demanded it. And when he did not back down and invited you to dinner, you did not hesitate for a moment. There was no fear or anxiety in you against meeting with this powerful man even though logic told you that there should be. You felt good, confident.
Just as confident when Crane put his hand on yours and, while looking deep into your eyes, assured you that he would help you. You didn't run away with your eyes, you didn't took your hand away, you embraced it. "He will help me… I've got someone I can count on…" you thought, recalling in your mind his intense gaze, a gaze that was almost immediately banished by darkness and an ice-cold voice, "No. Leave it, or I'll have you arrested for obstructing the investigation."
Determined, fearless, you pulled the hood over your head and hid your face in the shadows, glancing one last time at the dark, extinguished "Amusement Mile" sign looming in the distance.
*
"Hood wait!" Damian shouted, following Jason with rushed steps. Jason was older, taller, and although Damian was much more agile, he moved much faster.
"Keep up kid!" Jason shouted as he saw the Amusement Mile sign faintly in the distance, "You don't want Wing and Red to have all the fun for themselves!"
"Don't call me a kid!"
Jason only laughed deeply, amused by his brother's reaction. They may have had different fathers and mothers, but to Jason, Damian was always the little brother. He had never told him this, but he hoped Damian understood it without mincing words. The grapple gun fired high and Jason soared, dragged through the air toward the tall buildings.
"Where the fuck are they…?" he asked quietly, landing softly on the roof, knowing that thanks to the intercom installed in his cowl, Damian would hear everything. He looked around trying to spot any movement, "Quiet…too quiet…" he muttered under his breath.
"Do you think they are not here?" Damian asked landing quietly next to him.
"I think they are…I think they are here. As well as Joker and his chick…"
"Hood, we should not abandon the task. Batman will…" Damian began but stopped mid-sentence. He climbed on his toes and fixed his gaze pointing wordlessly at the figure in the darkness.
"Bingo!"
*
Nightwing and Red Robin observed. Crouching in the darkness, hidden under the cover of the night, they sat on the roof and watched. Their perceptive ears picked up every murmur, their attentive eyes caught every slightest gesture Harleen made. Every glance at her watch, every glance at her phone screen, every methodical tweak of her hair, every affectionate pat on her bat.
"Someone is coming…" Tim said almost inaudibly, "can you hear?"
"Yup…" Dick nodded quietly, "be ready…"
Tim replied with a nod, pulling a Collapsible Bō Staff from behind his back.
"Multiple steps…. ambush?" Tim turned his head then left then right listening for movements.
"I think we might have overstayed our welcome…"
*
The surroundings were eerie. Abandoned buildings with broken windows bore no trace of their former decadence, the empty dark littered streets had long forgotten the joy and vibrancy of life. Even the street lights seemed dark and gloomy, as if trying to scare away stray wanderers. But you were not strayed. You walked confidently ahead with a steady step, minute by minute, decreasing the distance between you and the pin on the map. You wondered what you would say to your friend, what words would be appropriate? Will you contain your anger? Will you hold back your resentment? Will she do the same? What could you possibly say?
"Harleen?!" you stopped in half step shocked, "what the actual fuck?!"
"Call me Harley, everyone does!" Harleen turned on her heel displaying her new look and smiled broadly.
Tumblr media
"No one calls you that!"
"You like my new outfit?!" she asked, running her hand over the tight-fitting red and black corset, "What am I saying! Of course, you do! Who wouldn't!"
"What the actual fuck…" you measured her with your eyes from top to bottom. Tight leather pants, corset, mid-waist jacket, baseball bat placed by her leg, gun at her thigh, tattoo on her forearm, all colored in black and red.
"I see you speechless! Imagine what Mr. J said when he saw his new and improved Harley Quinn!"
"Did you lose your goddamn mind!" you growled angrily not believing your eyes. Walking here you imagined that you would find Harleen miserable, weeping, and tormented, instead she looked thriving.
"Hey, no need to be mean ya know!"
"Fucker put the gun to my head!!!" you shouted and your voice echoed through the empty surroundings, "your boyfriend threatened me to blow my brains out and you telling me not to be mean!"
"Oh he was just joking with ya!" she brushed off, "ain't my fault that you never could take a joke!"
"A joke…" you gritted your teeth, narrowing the distance between you, "a joke?!"
"You see… Mr. J found your joke very funny! He was laughing all evening! So no hard feelings, forgive and forget!" she sounded infantile, modulating her voice in a playful way, "what ya think!? We can still be friends!"
"Harl…" you lowered your tone, "you need help. That maniac has you wrapped around his finger. I don't recognize you."
"Mr. J loves me! I don't need any help!"
"Harleen…" you looked at her seriously, "whatever that is I am sure it's not love…"
"You just say that cos you don't know him!" she grabbed you firmly by the forearm, "once you get to know him you'll see!"
You never thought Harleen had such strength in her. Ignoring your screams, she dragged you toward the entrance. You begged, fought, tried to struggle but she didn't listen. Singing cheerfully under her breath she dragged you towards the entrance.
"Let me go!!!"
"You know, I ain't even mad at you! You shouldn't be mad at me either!"
"Harleen, please! Let me help you! Come with me please!" you begged "Whatever he did to you we can fix this! I'm gonna help you! Just please come with me!"
"Mr. J always says….."
"I don't give a fuck about what Joker says!" you yanked your hand from her grasp, "just come with me!"
"You shouldn't say no to my invitation," she frowned, "Mr. J won't like that. He doesn't take no for an answer."
A swish cut through the air. Something metal flew past your head and hit Harleen right in the hand in which she was wielding a bat. She cursed foully.
"You brought them here!!!" she exclaimed furiously with a blazing look.
Tumblr media
Jason didn't have to give any orders; he and Robin worked in perfect synergy. They jumped off the roof using the element of surprise and attacked. Batarang aimed at her hand stripping her of her grip on the bat giving Damian a split second to leap into the air and attack Harley. With one swift move, Jason pushed Y/N aside and attacked. Both he and Damian assumed a quick effortless fight but the Joker's new partner turned out to be much more skilled than they anticipated. She leaped back nimbly with two back flips, avoiding Robin's attacks, and delivered a powerful half-turn kick.
"Where is Joker!" Jason shouted furiously.
"Mr. J is not up for a visit! Especially not from a batshit crazies like you!" she chuckled angrily and swung aiming a punch.
Block, counter, punch. Jason delivered three quick, precise blows. Harleen groaned falling to the ground.
"Where is Joker?" he repeated the question, standing over her and crushing her hand to the ground with his boot as she tried to reach for her weapon. Harley groaned in pain. He had her. Weeks of searching were over. He may have defied Batman but he had caught the Joker's accomplice.
"Red Hood to Batman," he spoke into the intercom, "we apprehended Quinzel."
An unknown force lifted him into the air and threw him several feet away. His eyes darkened as he hit his head on the wall.
"Hood!" he heard Nightwing's voice in the distance. He opened his eyes again and saw an utterly hilarious image. Dick, Tim, and Damian trying to deal with two angry women.
Nightwing tried to reach out to Qiunn but Y/N stubbornly kept placing herself between them.
"Leave her alone! She needs help!" she shouted in Nightwing's face.
Tim and Damian attacked Quinn again. A big bat snatched from Y/N's hand flew above their heads trying to hit them. They dodged the attacks nimbly, one by one trying to counterattack. Aimed at Quinn's head, Damian's Batarang missed, Damian never missed. Tim attacked from behind Quinn's back but Y/N reached out in time and grabbed his cape sabotaging his attack.
"Wing would you mind!" Tim threw in the direction of Nightwing who was struggling with the girl.
"Harleen run!" she shouted.
She merely smiled broadly, reached behind her belt, and pointed her gun straight at Tim.
Tumblr media
As if in slow motion, Jason watched the flash bounce off the metal, a wide Joker-like smile, her finger on the trigger…. He reached behind his belt and threw the Batarang with all his strength in Quinn's direction. He missed. He never missed either. The clang of metal. Y/N's terrified eyes and her two hands on Nigtwing's chest as she pushed him back with all her strength.
"Harleen don't!!!" she ordered with a shout, situating herself between the aimed weapon and the unaware Tim, "just don't…" she added more gently, "don't make choices that you won't be able to change…"
"You just made yours…" Harleen hissed angrily and dashed to escape.
*
Tim and Damian ran after her. They did not wait for permission or for the reactions of their older and more experienced brothers. They knew what they were doing. During the fight, during the mission, they worked seamlessly with each other. Jason watched them disappear behind a closed door and for a moment considered running after them.
"Hood!" Nightwing called out in his direction, "you good?!"
"Yeah yeah…" he muttered gathering himself from the ground. He knew very well that this question was only there to redirect his attention, "What the hell happened?"
"That is a good question…" Nightwing glanced meaningfully at Y/N who was still struggling in his grasp. Despite her hands twisted to the back held with little force she yanked and pulled in an attempt to free herself from his grip, "please stop. You gonna hurt yourself."
"Let me go!" she hissed fiercely.
"I cannot do that…"
"You are hurting me!"
"Then stop yanking…"
"But Harleen…"
"She made her choice."
"Oh, you are as stubborn as he is!!!"
"Who? Batman?"
"Let go of me!"
"If you try to run I'll stop you…"
"I won't…" she replied but as soon as Nightwing loosened his grip she threw herself running towards the building.
"Where do you think you're going?" Jason asked blocking her way.
"Oh for fuck sake!!! How many of you is there!" she boiled with frustration.
"How come I flew over a hundred feet and hit a wall?" he asked, ignoring her curses.
"I don't know, fucking magic!" she growled, "get out of my way!"
"Is she always like that?!" he asked Nightwing ignoring her completely.
"Last time she was more unsteady on her feet but just as fierce," Nightwing countered in his characteristic playful tone, "are you done?" he turned to Y/N, "we won't let you in."
"But Harleen, she needs…"
"Yes, yes she needs your help yatty yatty yatta…" Red Hood sneered, "you want to go get yourself killed by all means!" he taunted stepping off her way. She, however, did not move. The door to the building opened and Batman emerged from the darkness. He measured her with a stern look and, without taking his eyes off her, spoke.
Tumblr media
"Quinzel is gone, Joker was never here," he informed, "the building was a decoy. Two additional exits with quick access. Robin and Red are searching the place."
"Now it's Quinn, Harley Quinn apparently," Nightwing informed him.
"Are you trying to get yourself killed?" Batman turned to Y/N, "You ask me to believe in your innocence and yet I keep finding you in compromising situations."
"I wanted to help her," Y/N began uncertainly only to look at him furiously a moment later and add in a raised voice, "I wanted to help her because you refused to help me!"
"I think I like her…" Jason muttered to Nightwing quietly.
"I asked you to help me! Didn't I! I gave you my reasons, explained my point of view, and asked for help and you said no!!!" she shouted furiously standing at arm's length in front of Batman, "so don't fucking act all surprised that I decided to act on my own!"
"I definitely like her..." Jason grinned under his mask.
"I also said that I'll have you arrested for interfering with the case…" Batman reminded her.
"Then please!" she held out both hands in front of him, "Arrest me!"
For a moment they stood like that. Y/N and Batman in uninterrupted eye contact as if they were fighting each other without words. As if they were challenging each other, soundlessly questioning each other's choices. Jason and Dick were just observing but they too didn't need to exchange words to know what each was thinking. Both were amused and curious by the unfolding situation.
"You have to come with me," Batman finally broke the silence but did not cuff her hands. He only turned around and started walking toward the district exit.
"Hey, I was just kidding…" Y/N chuckled nervously and yet she sped up her pace to catch up with him.
"I'm not arresting you."
"Then why do I have to go with you?"
"You need to see something."

Chapter seven: Choices that shape the future
~~***~~
Author note: Well...I got carried away with words. Oops? As I started to write this chapter I had only two major bits to hit and story, well it just happened. Is unfolded as I wrote it, and I had to make sure that it will all come together. I hope it did cos I won't lie, I really really loved this chapter. Mostly because I got an opportunity to more light on beloved Batfamily! Oh, I so love them all and it is a crime that Batfamily is so ignored in the mass media and popular big blockbuster movies! Batman, there is no Batman without his Robins, without his whole family. So right from the beginning, I knew I wanted to bring Batfamily to this story. I wouldn't have it any other way. Hope you enjoyed this very very long chapter! I'm hitting "publish" and starting to work on next chapter :) I've got a feeling it's gonna have more fluff to it. Thank you all for your interactions and shares! I truly appreciate that. And as always Dear Reader, I thank you for reading.

REVIEWS OF THE WEEK!
EVERY WEEK I WILL POST VARIOUS REVIEWS I’VE WRITTEN SO FAR IN 2024. YOU CAN CHECK OUT MY GOODREADS FOR MORE UP-TO-DATE REVIEWS HERE.
___
24. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Re-read January 2024
I've been wanting to re-read this series for a while because I never finished it. I remember really enjoying this first book in the series because of the competition aspect of it and I'd say I still enjoyed that!
I also see the foreshadowing for the MC's ability to attract all of the men in her life LOL. While I might not have enjoyed it as much as the first time, I still enjoyed it for the most part. There were a lot of things I forgot about and was delighted to be reminded of. The MC is a badass, but her constant "I could kill him with two moves" comments at the beginning had me rolling my eyes a few times.
Even though I know book two will break my heart again, I can't wait to pick it up. Also, SO MANY clues in this one about her identity that I missed the first time around. Definitely one of those books that is worth reading more than once just to catch all of the little pieces of the overall puzzle.
___
25. Mixed Signals by B.K. Borison--⭐️⭐️⭐️
I have a bit of a gripe with this author. While I like a good chunk of the books she writes, the third act breakups are so infuriating. They take away all of those happy feelings that were building up throughout the book because the drama and miscommunication for the third acts are freaking ridiculous.
I was listening to this book last night when it happened--the inevitable "I'm afraid and a coward and let me let you stew in this miscommunication so that it somehow makes sense for me to break up with you because I'm so scared." Listen, as someone who has anxiety and has relegated herself to singledom because I don't want to deal with the messy emotions, I UNDERSTAND. It's freaking scary. BUT. But for the love of god, there are better ways around this. This manufactured and forced drama is so frustrating. I literally wanted to throw the book out the window.
These characters deserve better.
Three stars because I loved them when they were actually functioning like human beings and not drama puppets. Three stars for the small town side characters, who I have loved the whole way through this series (I'd give THEM a higher rating). And three stars for the diversity of a Latine character (even if the Spanish was sometimes questionable.)
Will I read the last book? Of course. I want to read about the other couple, but I KNOW that I'm going to be frustrated as well. Listen, I didn't think I was going to get as annoyed as with the climax of book one (because book two was actually kind of okay with the climax), but oh man. The FRUSTRATION.
Sigh. Moving on. Read this series if you want cute moments and sexy characters, but be prepared for the moments of frustration. This FMC has a lot of things to work through and I think one of the things that frustrates me the most about these third act breakups is that they feel like they come out of nowhere. They're fine in the moment and then boom, "I'm a coward."

26. Breathless by Amy McCulloch--⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of the issues I have with adult thrillers is that I sometimes build them up a lot more in my head than the story itself. While BREATHLESS kind of suffers from this, it had its interesting and captivating moments.
I thought the mountain climbing aspect of the book was really cool and I wanted the MC to prove everyone wrong, including her awful ex-boyfriend. Granted I know nothing about mountain climbing, but that aspect of the book is probably one of the main reasons why I kept listening to this audiobook.
The mystery was not predictable but also it kind of was? LOL. It's hard to explain--I didn't actively think it was one person, but when it was all revealed, I thought it made a lot of sense. Like I said, I thought the mountain climbing was the true thrilling aspect of this book.
Overall, this was fun and I loved that ending, but it wasn't something I think I'll be thinking about a month from now. It was good, but *shrug*.
___
27. Slewfoot by Brom--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I didn't know what to expect from this beautiful book. I purchased it a couple of years ago because all of my friends were talking about it, so of course I fell to the peer pressure. Just like the beautiful and eerie artwork, the story itself is unsettling and straddles that morally grey line of justified vengeance and anger versus a society's portrayal of evil (ie. a woman refusing to be cowed by a male's authority.)
Reading this gave me this odd sense of satisfaction when everything came to a head--especially thinking about all of the women who were accused of witchcraft and murdered. I especially felt this anger when I think about how many people the MC helped and how those people let their fear and hatred guide their actions against her. I think, beyond the cowardice of a man not accepting defeat, that angered me the most--women turning on each other because of a male dominated society's idealism and "godliness".
Needless to say, I loved this and couldn't put it down. I wanted to know what came next, even though I KNEW it wouldn't be something good. I'm just grateful that Brom knew that I would be looking for those satisfying moments of vengeance.
Also, I'd call this terror in the sense of that overhanging fear of what comes next. But even with the gory bits and the blood lust, I'd say the real terror in this book is humanity and how easily they are swayed. It all leads to me wanting to ask: who is the true devil here?
___
28. From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I can't believe I've made it this far! Although, I have this feeling I have because the deja vu is hitting me HARD.
FROM DEAD TO WORSE had so much going on, but unlike some of the other books before this one, this one actually took place closer to home. I kind of missed reading about Sookie's misadventures near her home. We got to revisit a lot of her relationships with the men in her life in this one--like the cleanser book for any ends that weren't fully cut clean.
I may have been spoiled for who's endgame, so I am totally seeing how Harris starting laying down the little hints here and there. But even so, knowing this doesn't stop certain moments from feeling bittersweet for me.
More things were revealed and Sookie grew even more as a character. I understood why she made the choices she made because she's finally putting her self-worth above those of the men in her life, but I still DID feel a little bad for her beau in this one. But again, I am on her side because she's been dealt some shitty men cards in the last eight books.
Onto the next one!

29. The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
After trying and failing to read Ferguson's THE NANNY, I really wasn't sure what to expect with this vastly different genre of a book. I'm honestly so glad I decided to give this a shot anyway because THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN.
I was hooked onto the story and I loved the different tropes that were used. The whole grumpy/sunshine thing will always be a winner with me, and I am a puddle for this kind of tension. And don't even get me started on the smut. Omg, this man. The dirty talk in this was *chef's kiss*. This man is hot HOT.
I also really liked how the climax of the story was handled, even if one of my least favourite tropes was temporarily employed. I admire a self-sufficient FMC who can slap some sense into the MMC.
I do recommend this book to romance lovers, but I know that the topics explored in this book may be new to some. Research beforehand might be an awkward time LOL.
___
30. Just Happy to Be Here by Naomi Kanakia--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I want to preface my review by stating that I am not a member of the Trans community, so my opinions on this book are from an outsider's perspective.
JUST HAPPY TO BE HERE was an intense read, both because of the clear transphobia and because of the MC's youth/naive nature about the people around her. The number of times she was cut off by those around her, or had such clear transphobic comments and actions done against her and she brushed them off was rage-inducing. I think I know why she does this--especially at the end, when it all ties up really nicely together, but in the moment, I felt immense rage towards the people around her.
Kanakia's novel touches on so much happening right now in society and how people twist narratives to fit their agendas and their means. How some people can see one person as an "object" to further their ideologies.
This book just made me feel a lot and made me so angry, but I know I am privileged in my cis-life. My heart broke for the kids who are in these situations and/or are surrounded by people who just refuse to see beyond their own biases and hatred.
I also appreciate the representation of the complex familial relationship between the MC and her parents--it may have been imperfect, but as an adult, I can see the love there for their daughter.
Between the beautiful cover, the emotionally stimulating and thought-provoking story, and the raw reality of a young character trying to figure herself out, I do recommend JUST HAPPY TO BE HERE. I do also recommend that the TWs be heeded: transphobic language, transphobia, internalized racism, transmisogyny. Read with care--but know that this is a pretty important story. Also, Kanakia has a pretty great author's note at the end!
___
31. The Probability of Everything by Sarah Everett--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
THE PROBABILITY OF EVERYTHING was so much more than what I was expecting and although my heart feels wounded and my eyes are still feeling that aching pressure after a good cry, I'm so grateful I was able to experience it.
Twelve year old me wishes she had this book to read when my world changed so irrevocably, much like the MC of this book.
This heartbreaking novel follows a young scientist-to-be who likes to deal with probabilities in exchange for the anxiety surrounding her world ending. We are faced with a family grieving the end and how everyone handles it differently.
I don't even know what else to say about this book for fear of spoiling it--but know that it is powerful, important, and heart-rending.
___
32. Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Re-read: January 2024
I've been wanting to re-read LONG SHOT for a while, even though it is a very heavy and dark book. I had forgotten just how dark this book gets and while I highly recommend it, I do still super recommend you check out the trigger warnings.
Despite the dark and the abuse, the shining light was the blossoming romance between the two MCs and how, if something is truly destined for you, it'll happen.
LONG SHOT is a book full of emotion, heart, heartbreak, and a bit of magic in the sense that Karma is a bitch and it comes for all. Also, the FMC is one strong woman who did everything she could to protect those she loves. Kennedy touches on the misconceptions that haunt survivors of DA, which I thought was a very important aspect of the book.
Now I want to read the rest of the trilogy, which I never read after the first time I read this one.
___
33. Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I am always wary of sequels--especially when it's for fantasy books I initially really enjoyed. Somehow, Rachel Gillig delivers a sequel that was even better than the first book. TWO TWISTED CROWNS was a delight of a read full of dark moments, high intensity, anger, and a love story I felt more deeply than in book one.
The angst alone between two of the characters I wasn't expecting to see together was better than I could have ever hoped for. This was what made this book even more fun--just me casually waiting for these characters to just cross that line with each other.
Also, I found that TWO TWISTED CROWNS had me reacting more viscerally towards the hateful villains. The way I wanted to smack a bitch in this book because how dare they hurt these precious beings?
And, hi, I wasn't expecting to cry? Imagine that I'm enjoying this darker fantasy novel when all of a sudden, my eyes start to water during an emotional scene.
Let's applaud Gillig for making this a duology (hopefully) and not dragging this in a ten series saga. This whole series was such an incredible piece of fiction. I'm glad I fell into the hype and read these two books.
___
34. Holes by Louis Sachar--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Re-read January 2024
I don't even know how many times I read this when I was a kid. Reading it as an adult now was such an interesting experience. For one, the story felt a lot shorter and quicker than I remember it being. I also remembered everything because I'm not kidding when I say that I read this A LOT as a kid.
Being an adult, I can also see how truly sad this story could get--especially one of the historical stories told throughout the book.
Such an amazing classic and truly a gem.

Have you read any of these books? Would you recommend them?

Happy reading!

Ranking All Books by Holly Jackson
Since I've read all of Holly's books, I'm going to rank them! Disclaimer: This is my opinion. If we don't have the same opinion, then respect that. Let's go!
Warning: this may contain spoilers for all books published by Holly Jackson. If you don't want to be spoiled, then scroll away.
6. Killjoy (2021)
Tumblr media
I found this story cute! Very fun and fast-paced. I loved seeing how it all started and loved seeing the friend group's dynamic again. I just found this to not be the best out of all of Holly's books (granted this is a novella, but it's not my fave). Also, too much Ant Lowe in my opinion. I would have preferred more Jamie Reynolds. Also, I personally think Connor and Zach should've kissed but oh well.
Overall, fun book! If you wanna go back to where it all started, then this novella is worth it.
5. Five Survive (2022)
Tumblr media
Guys... I have a reason why this book is ranked so low. I'm going to start by saying that I did not hate this book. I found the story intriguing and was engaged once the action started. For her first standalone, this book was really good and exceeded my expectations. My main problem with this book was that I found that I could care less about the characters. Personally, I found Red Kenny to be a weak protagonist in comparison to Pip and Bel and, not to mention how I could care less about Red and Arthur. Red and Arthur are cute, but honestly, I could care less if they got together or not.
Again, I don't hate this book. For Holly's first standalone, it was really good. However, I found that I didn't really care for any of the characters.
Overall, good book! Wish I connected more to the characters because the premise is incredible.
4. Good Girl, Bad Blood (2020)
Tumblr media
All books in the AGGGTM series are five star reads in my opinion, but I find this the weakest book in the trilogy. Honestly, I love this book with my whole heart. Coming from being Connor Reynolds's biggest fan, I love how much he appeared in this book and how he aided in finding Jamie.
I think this book suffers from what I've dubbed "Sequel Slump" - meaning that the first book is so good that the sequel "slumps" in comparison. In this case, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is so good that this book just "slumps" in comparison, and I think it's because it takes a while for the mystery to officially begin, since we're taken through a quick recap over the previous book's events and then the memorial.
Also, I personally think that Connor and Zach should've kissed. Connor going to Zach's house to play Fortnite after the memorial? Very fruity to me (joking... or am I?)
Overall, love this book. Wish it got more recognition in the fandom.
3. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (2019)
Tumblr media
LOVE THIS BOOK. This book is fast-paced, thrilling and mysterious. It has a healthy dose of mystery and romance, along with characters I truly felt interested in. Pip's an amazing protagonist who fought hard to prove Sal innocent and find the real killer under the guise of her EPQ, all as she got the guy (Ravi Singh) in the end.
I loved that this book kept me guessing until the very end. I was suspecting everyone (Max, Jason, Naomi, Elliot, etc) and was genuinely surprised finding out Elliot killed Sal. Holly had written him to be such a likeable person that I couldn't believe he would kill Sal just so he could frame him as Andie's killer. AND BECCA? Never would've guessed it. Holly Jackson knows how to write compelling thrillers and I love that for her.
My only real complaint is again, Zach and Connor should've kissed. Connor honey I get that you liked Pip, but Zach Chen is literally right there. You boys are soulmates and I pray that the show recognises that (along with LauCara).
Overall, AMAZING BOOK. Deserves all the hype!
2. As Good as Dead (2021)
Tumblr media
AHHHHH I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. THIS BOOK IS HOW YOU END A TRILOGY GUYS. From the beginning, I was hooked by the mystery of Pip's stalker. This book broke my heart with Andie's email - poor girl was so scared of her father and died trying to escape him. I really like how this book doesn't give Andie a full redemption arc, rather it explains her actions. It really humanises Andie - a girl who grew up in a toxic environment and died trying to save herself and her sister.
My heart shattered when Pip broke up with Ravi. AND HIS SUGGESTION WAS TO MARRY SO THEY COULD GET SPOUSAL PRIVILEDGE??? RAVI FUCKING SINGH WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME???
The ending? EVIL. FUCKING EVILLLL BUT I LOVE HOLLY EITHER WAY. In my heart, I believe Pip got back together with him and they married. They also got another golden retriever in my mind after they got married.
Only complaint was WHERE WAS ZACH CHEN? CONNOR AND HIM SHOULD'VE KISSED WTF. Not to mention Lauren and Cara... Love my girl Steph though. Hoping that Lauren and Cara are a thing in the show though since we don't know much about Steph.
Overall, BEST BOOK IN THE TRILOGY GUYS.
The Reappearance of Rachel Price (2024)
Tumblr media
HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
THIS BOOK... I WILL ONLY SAY ONE WORD: BRILLIANT.
When Holly Jackson said that this book was her favourite, I can see why it is. While I struggled to get into it from the beginning, once I read past 100 pages, I was hooked. Bel Price is such a complex protagonist that I could find myself relating to. All the characters were just so complex and you truly don't know who's lying until the very end, when we find out (spoiler alert) that Charlie (Bel's dad) had ordered his father to kill Rachel.
Not to mention how insane the sibling plotline was??? I NEVER WOULD HAVE SUSPECTED THAT CARTER WAS RACHEL'S BIOLOGICAL DAUGHTER. My heart broke when Rachel spoke about how Patrick took Carter away from her when Carter was only two weeks old. The Price family are truly disgusting - Rachel, Bel and Carter deserved so much better.
Also, I preferred the romance between Ash and Bel over Arthur and Red. Ash is such a fun character and I was genuinely sad when him and Bel weren't endgame. I believe that one day, in the near future, they reunite and get together officially.
Overall, LOVE THIS BOOK. If you haven't picked this up yet, then do so now!

My 2024 in Film: February
Another month of movies.
Like usual I'll hide it behind the line so as not to bombard the timelines of the uninterested.
But there were a lot of good movies watched in February.
* = Rewatches
February
14.
Evil Demon Golf Ball from Hell!!!
(1997)
Tumblr media
—Short Comedy Thriller
Directed by: Rian Johnson
After a robbery takes a bad turn a criminal finds himself cursed with a golf ball that won't stop following him.
Here I was thinking that I was an old school Rian Johnson fan, because I've loved Brick since back in the day, but turns out he was making short films even before that.
I'm not gonna say it's amazing tell-all-your-friends cinema or anything. But I will say that if you're in the middle segment of the venn diagram of people that both enjoy Rian Johnson and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, I'd recommend you check it out. It definitely has the vibes of a Jojo episode, because that golfball has got to be an autonomous stand like Notorious B.I.G.
15.
La Nuit du 12
[English title: "The Night of the 12th"]
(2022)
Tumblr media
—Mystery
Directed by: Dominik Moll
A French homicide detective, plagued by the mystery behind the brutal murder of a young woman, is forced to confront the harsh truths of the world and the reality of what modern law enforcement really is.
There's some things to like about this one, but it can't ever escape the fact that—at its heart—it is not a story about the dangers of living as a woman under the patriarchy. It is a story about how difficult the brutal murder of this woman was for this poor male cop.
And how can you make a statement about the systems of a world where women have to fear this sort of thing from within a story about a woman getting fridged to give the male protagonist some pathos?
16.
Bound
(1996)
Tumblr media
—Crime Thriller
Directed by: Lana Wachowski & Lilly Wachowski
While fixing up an apartment a handywoman falls for the woman next door only to discover that their criminal connections could prove to be their salvation or their downfall.
My roommates and I have roommate movie nights wherein every month we select a new theme and everyone has to pick their own movie fitting the theme without telling anyone else what it is until it's their night. Then throughout the month we'll watch them all.
And before each showing the picker will show a couple trailers of the things they were thinking about picking but that didn't make the final cut.
I had always avoided this movie because anytime I hear something described as an erotic thriller my ace ass is running the other way. But we wound up watching the trailer for it during a roommate movie night and I was intrigued.
(extra intrigued because I didn't know Jennifer Tilly was in it and I hadn't seen her in anything in some time.)
So I figured I'd give it a try. And much to my surprise I really enjoyed it. I think I might actually prefer the Wachowski's style in this than I do their later stuff? Not only is it super queer, but it's also just a really engaging thriller. Definitely worth sitting through the couple of erotic scenes for.
17.
Corner Office
(2022)
Tumblr media
—Comedy Mystery
Directed by: Joachim Back Based on: "Rummet" by Jonas Karlsson
A businessman starts a new job only to discover a mysterious office that grants him exceptional clarity. The only problem is that he's the only one who can see it and the rest of the office is a little uncomfortable with how he keeps going into the hallway to stare at the wall during his breaks.
I'm not really sure what the message of this movie was supposed to be? It's too uncomfortable to be funny, and it's too odd to be thrilling. I'm open to the idea that I just completely missed the point, but the whole thing felt like having some Boomer talk at you for 102 minutes.
18.*
Ready or Not
(2019)
Tumblr media
—Horror
Directed by: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett
On her wedding night a bride is asked to partake in a family tradition of her new in-laws: to play a game. However, the stakes of this game are far higher than she was expecting.
Right off the bat I'm gonna warn you against watching the trailer for this one. It shows way too much and spoils some surprises. I think it's a great one to go into knowing only the broadstrokes. But if you really want one, this one with Indonesian subtitles is cut much better than the standard US one.
Anways, I love this movie!
Samara Weaving is phenomenal as the lead. It's shot super well. And its satire of the rich is excellent.
I don't care what anyone thinks, it's a 5/5 to me. I have a blast every time I watch it and I have seen it quite a few times.
19.
The Lost City
(2022)
Tumblr media
—Comedy Adventure
Directed by: Aaron Nee and Adam Nee
An eccentric billionaire kidnaps a romance novelist in order to find a lost treasure. Now it's up to the cover model of her books to rescue her.
I don't know how to put this, but this is a great example of where the writing of big studio Hollywood is these days, and why it drives me crazy. This is essentially (but not technically) a remake of Romancing the Stone (1984) and when you compare them you can really see how screenwriting has changed.
And I wouldn't even say Romancing the Stone is top tier writing or anything. But from the standards of its era it was a solid entry. It might not be the flashiest thing, but it has a strong foundations and it is first-and-foremost telling a story. And that's why it's memorable.
But The Lost City feels like a 2 hour long SNL skit. It's inherently NOT about the story. The story is secondary. It's about the jokes. The story is just there to be a set piece to tell some jokes. Because of this the scenes don't progress in a way to tell the story, they progress to get from one skit to another.
The result is that there is no foundation for me hang my attention on. It's all just empty calories. Yet the film will still try to have big story and character beats, but they didn't do any of the groundwork and so it's all hollow for me.
The viewers wanted silliness and adventure and big names and bigger action, right? Well, here it is! Isn't it great!? Here's a plate of sugar and salt and oil, these are the things you wanted, right? What you put them in is secondary, right? Why bother making a dish when we can just give you what you want.
I don't know. I was excited about this one, because Channing Tatum, Sandra Bullock, and Daniel Radcliffe usually always make me laugh. So them being in something together seemed like a recipe for something I'd like. But it very much was not.
And so many big movies feel like this these days; as if movies are being written by a group consensus instead of by a storyteller.
20.
Cameraperson
(2016)
Tumblr media
—Documentary Memoir
Directed by: Kirsten Johnson
Documentary filmmaker and cinematographer Kirsten Johnson creates a memoir of her life and career through the unused footage of the documentaries she's worked on.
I had never seen this one before, but this was my pick for a roommate movie night. The theme was: "Oh!...So that's a thing."
I figured that the easy road would be to pick a documentary that highlighted some unusual group or idea, but I wanted to push the boundaries of the theme. I wanted to find something that wasn't about something unusual, but was itself something unusual.
And that's how I wound up at Kirsten Johnson.
I had first heard of her during a fantastic episode of Switchblade Sisters where she was the guest and she put forth a truly fascinating documentary-filmmaker view of Jackass: The Movie (2002). In the episode she also talks about her film Dick Johnson is Dead (2020), and I was thinking that maybe that would work.
But in looking at her other work I saw this and the idea behind it sounded so interesting that I had to go with it.
It's April as I write this post and this is currently sitting as my favorite thing I've watched this year.
I just love it. It is such a uniquely compelling film. If you were to make a standard documentary about documentary filmmaking I don't think it could come close to reaching this kind of impact. It would seem too sterile. But by using the parts of the documentaries that you don't see it is able to paint this fascinating picture of both her life and her profession, while making you feel like you're along for the ride.
I've thought about this movie so much since I've watched it. Definitely check it out if you get the chance.
21.
Marry Me
(2022)
Tumblr media
—Rom-Com
Directed by: Kat Coiro Based on: Marry Me by Bobby Crosby
A pop-star in the middle of a crisis decides to accept the offer of a fan at her concert who is holding a sign saying "Marry Me."
I am part of the small percentage of people that have read the webcomic this was based on, so I was shocked when I saw it had been adapted.
As a connoisseur of Rom-Coms I found this is to be a little below average. But I can't really dislike it, because J.Lo is giving it her all.
Owen Wilson is phoning it in HARD, but J.Lo is going for it.
I wouldn't tell you to go out of your way to see it, but if you're low on options and you see it somewhere, you could do a hell of a lot worse than a movie with J.Lo proving she's still as good as she ever was.
P.S. "On My Way (Marry Me)" is a banger.
22.
Knock at the Cabin
(2023)
Tumblr media
—Mystery Thriller
Directed by: M. Knight Shyamalan Based on: The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay
A strange group descends on a small family vacationing in a rural cabin and presents them with a choice: decide which member of the family should die and then kill them, or else the entire world will be destroyed.
I distinctly remember early in M. Knight's career where that man could do no wrong. I also distinctly remember years later where a trailer said "From the mind of M. Knight Shyamalan" and everybody laughed.
After he created the absolute heaping white-washed trashfire that is The Last Airbender (2010) I has just wrote him off. But it's been a decade! Maybe he has managed to get back to his roots? And the library had his new stuff so I figured why not see what the man has been up to, without giving him any money.
Anyways, I hate this.
I hate this a lot.
I also hate that Dave Bautista is giving a really great performance, because it'll be the hidden silver lining to an otherwise terrible movie.
From what I read the book this is based on takes the story in a very different direction, so no shade on the book. But I am just lost at knowing what this movie is trying to say? Because I can't help but be wildly uncomfortable with a movie written by a straight man about how a gay couple should kill each other in order to save the world?
Like...what the actual fuck is this? Why would you make this?
23.
Old
(2021)
Tumblr media
—Sci-Fi Mystery
Directed by: M. Knight Shyamalan Based on: Château de sable by Pierre Oscar Lévy & Frederik Peeters
A group of families find themselves trapped on a strange beach where they seem to be aging at a highly accelerated rate.
I haven't done the proper research, but I have a working theory that if Gael García Bernal is in a big Hollywood movie: it won't be good. But if Gael García Bernal is in a Spanish-language movie: it will be fantastic.
Which is to not to insult him in any way, but is to say that Hollywood has no idea how to use this man's talents.
Anyways, M.Knight is back at it! Once again getting great actors to be in bad movies. This is just plot hole after plot hole after plot hole. And since this was based on a French graphic novel I actually did read it afterword, so now I can confidently say that he has once again both entirely missed the point of the source material and also gave it a ridiculous ending.
I can't say it's utterly forgettable, but I kind of wish it was.
24.*
Best in Show
(2000)
Tumblr media
—Comedy Mocumentary
Directed by: Christopher Guest
Cameras document 5 contestants on their way to the biggest dog show of year.
I'm not positive, but I think this is the first mockumentary I ever saw? My best friend's family loves mockumentaries so I wound up watching a bunch while over at his house and it rubbed off on me. So I have a lot of nostalgia for this one.
It's just such a fun movie. Quotes from this movie live rent free in my head. And the cast! The cast is so good. This is one of those movies that I'll always be down to watch.
25.
Cane Toads: An Unnatural History
(1988)
Tumblr media
—Documentary
Directed by: Mark Lewis
A wild look at Australia's history with its most notorious eco-terrorist: the cane toad.
This is one of the movies I was thinking of for the previous roommate movie night, but didn't go with. I obviously still had to watch it by myself later, because I mean...how can you not want to see this?
This friggin' movie is wild. Not only is the story it's telling wild, but it shoots from the perspective of the toads? They had songs written for the movie about toads? It's just something you have to see to understand.
I also thought I knew the story of the cane toads ravaging Australia, but I definitely didn't know the whole story. It's only 47 minutes long. You can find the whole thing on Youtube if you can't find it elsewhere. If you don't watch it for the unique style of Documentary, you gotta watch it to hear the story about these toads. That's the kind of crazy history that you just can't make up.
26.
Nimona
(2023)
Tumblr media
—Animated Sci-Fi Fantasy Found-Family Adventure
Directed by: Nick Bruno & Troy Quane Based on: Nimona by ND Stevenson
A young shapeshifter teams up with a criminal ex-knight to overthrow the status quo.
What's this? Another movie this month based on a webcomic I read back in the day? What are the odds?
I've always been a fan of the Nimona comic. In fact I was even one of the many fans reading it here and Tumblr back in the day!
When I was working at a bookstore the Nimona graphic novel was a real popular seller and while the store's owner never gave me credit, I am taking full credit for it. Because it wasn't even on her radar until I pre-ordered my copy and told her how great it was, so she ordered an extra copy for the store. Then I wrote a shelf talker for it and we kept selling it and boom! It became a store staple.
[Sorry, I' hope y'all don't mind 'm just in a chatty mood. So you're are just gonna have to keep putting up with all this stories behind the things I'm watching!]
Netflix has a love for dicking me over time and time again, so I was resigned to probably not being able to see this one, because I refuse to give them any money. But they actually decided to do something cool for once and they put the full movie on Youtube for free in the time leading up to the Oscars.
Overall I really liked it! But I've gotta say that I like it as an addition to the graphic novel and not as a replacement for it. Because in the context of the source material it's delightful, but if you only watched this I feel like you'd be missing out on a lot. Ballister and Ambrosius' relationship in particular is WAY more interesting in the comic.
Also, I'm also not sure why the art director of the movie decided to give Ballister permanent puppy-dog eyes? But that's neither here nor there.
27.*
Evil Dead II
(1987)
Tumblr media
—Horror Comedy
Directed by: Sam Raimi
Both a sequel and a remake of the first movie. Ash is back at the cabin and so are the deadites! But this time...it's zanier!
I have discovered that among Horror fans I have some hot takes regarding the Evil Dead films. The first of them is that Evil Dead (2013) is an amazing movie and a fantastic adaptation, and all y'all are just haters.
But the second of them is that The Evil Dead (1981) is the far superior film to Evil Dead II.
The Evil Dead is creepy and wild and delightfully independent and creative. Army of Darkness (1992) is a campy and hilarious adventure through a nightmare world. And floating adrift somewhere in the middle, with no real goal is Evil Dead II.
I know many people who love it, and I wish them the best. But personally every time I've watched this I've just been thinking that this is all time I could've spent watching one of the other ones.
[Except for Evil Dead Rise (2023) which is by far the worst of them all. I'm not sure if that's another hot take or not, but it's true.]
28.*
Leprechaun
(1993)
Tumblr media
—Horror Comedy
Directed by: Mark Jones
While sprucing up an old house a spoiled girl and a family of painters runs afoul of an evil leprechaun when one of them eats some of his gold.
I thought I hadn't actually seen all of this when I sat down to watch it, but then the character Ozzie showed up and it all came flooding back to me.
But don't be like me. Don't watch Leprechaun by yourself. Leprechaun is a dish that should be enjoyed with the company of friends. Also some alcohol.
Because it's not a good movie, but it can definitely be a fun movie.
29.
Leprechaun 2
(1994)
Tumblr media
—Horror Comedy
Directed by: Rodman Flender
The leprechaun is back! This time he's determined to transform a girl into his leprechaun bride.
Okay, now THIS one I'm pretty sure I had never seen before.
It's also not good. And not even bad in the fun way the original one was, it's just not good. Although Warwick Davis being a menace is never not fun.
But the girl is the most interesting character and she is sidelined for most of it. Thus we're stuck following her dumbass boyfriend and his alcoholic boss around. And they are just the dullest characters to follow around.
30.
Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar
(2021)
Tumblr media
—Comedy Adventure
Directed by: Josh Greenbaum
Two mid-western best friends decide to spice up their life and take a vacation to Florida.
I have a friend that adores this movie. It looked a little weird, so I wasn't sure about it, but I decided to trust her judgement and my love of Kristen Wiig and give it a try.
And she was right, because this movie is so much fun. It's probably not the sort of humor that everyone will love, but it's definitely the sort of humor that cracks me up.
31.*
Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar
(2021)
Tumblr media
see #30
After I finished it, I immediately watched it again with commentary, okay?
Don't judge me!
32.
Oppenheimer
(2023)
Tumblr media
—Bio-Pic Drama
Directed by: Christopher Nolan
The story of Robert Oppenheimer's history of developing the atomic bomb.
One of my roommates told me at nearly midnight that he was about to put this on and asked if I wanted to watch. It is 3 hours long, but I'm always up late anyways, so I figured why not.
I don't really have many thoughts on this. I typically love Cillian Murphy, but I kind of don't like his Oppenheimer accent in this?
Also people kept talking about Robert Downey Jr.'s performance and I don't know why, because Josh Hartnett was the real standout for me. Somewhere along the line he got really good at acting.
33.
Shall We Dance
(1937)
Tumblr media
—Musical Rom-Com
Directed by: Mark Sandrich
A famous ballet dancer starts a rumor that he's married to a performer he has a crush on. This is rather unfortunate for her as the rumor is making it difficult for her to marry her actual finance.
I had never heard of this before, but I stumbled across it while trying to see if the library had a copy of Shall We ダンス? (1996). It turns out they did not, but they did have this.
I didn't like it.
The plot is really creepy when you think about it. Most of the musical numbers aren't very good. And I just was rather bored for most of it. And the moviegoers of the time didn't love it either, so it's not just me!
The main thing it has going for it is that Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire are so friggin' talented that it is always fun to watch them perform. And old movies are always a trip. They have a scene with barely any cuts where Rogers and Astaire do a tap dance number on roller skates. If that's not talent then I don't know what is.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
(1985)
Tumblr media
—Post-Apocalyptic Action Adventure
Directed by: George Miller & George Ogilvie
In a post-apocalyptic Australia a lone wanderer becomes embroiled in a power struggle between the sibling rulers of a city.
In a reverse of Leprechaun, I was convinced I had seen this before. I was so sure of it. But when the film truly goes BEYOND the thunderdome? None of that rang a bell AT ALL.
I'm going to assume I had only watched parts of it some time in the past, but never the whole thing. Because the whole second half was a wild surprise for me.
Definitely an interesting watch if you're a fan of the Borderlands games.

Scream 4
(2011)
Tumblr media
— Meta Horror
Directed by: Wes Craven
Ten years after the events of the last movie and Sydney Prescott has finally managed to piece her life back together. But when she returns to her hometown as part of her book tour she soon finds that another familiar face has also returned to Woodsboro.
Unlike with the Evil Dead series, I have no idea how my Scream takes are seen within the Horror fandom. But I love Scream 4. I would go so far as to say that it is my second favorite of the entire franchise, with the first one being the only one that tops it.
I know the third movie gets a lot of hate, so if you dropped off the series at some point and never made it to 4, I humbly suggest you give it a watch. Heck, I'm not positive, but I think you could firmly enjoy this one if the only other one you had seen was the first.
I had never seen anything past 4, so I figured I'd give it a rewatch before finally getting around to watching 5 and 6.

Scream
(2022)
Tumblr media
— Meta Horror
Directed by: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett
Ghostface strikes again! And this time Sydney isn't even in town! Maybe people shouldn't live in Woodsboro?
[Right off the bat I should mention that although it is the fifth movie, they decided to make the bold choice to name it "Scream." Does this mean that 2 of the movies in the franchise now have the same name? Yes. Yes it does. Is that kind of confusing? Yes. It certainly is!]
Ohhhhh boy. On one hand I'm glad I rewatched 4 to remind me of where the series last left off. But on the other hand I wish I hadn't because it set my bar really high.
I've heard people screaming praises for this one, so I figured I'd finally get around to checking it out. Especially because these directors also did Ready or Not which—as we have previously established—I love.
HOWEVER, I did not love this.
I don't care what any other fans think, this is going dead last in my Scream rankings. I'd gladly watch 3 before I'd watch this again. The whole thing is like a terrible Scream fan fiction story.
I am so glad I got this from the library, because if I had paid to see this in the theater I would have been even more annoyed.

Hasira scary movie preferences? 👀
Hehehehehehehehehe say lesssssss >:)
...
Muichiro I think is definitely the type to be into slasher flims, despite his young age. He'd probably indulge in the scream series. I'd also like to think he likes traditional Japanese horror, more specifically the Japanese version of the movie "The Ring".
...
Sanemi is definitely the same way as Muichiro... minus "The Ring". Although I think he'd prefer the movie "Saw" over anything else. Anything with blood and gore he just loves, given he has a lotttt of rage.
...
Mitsuri is definitely not a horror freak. But put a horror-comedy movie in front of her and she's hooked. With that said she's definitely interested in the "Scary Movie" series. You know, the series where they make fun of famous scary movies? Yeah, Mitsuri loves that stuff.
...
Obanai, naturally, will love whatever Mitsuri likes. He gets a good laugh out of the Scary Movie series anyways. But his personal preference would be movies like "Centipede" and "Anaconda." He just likes animals, especially creepy crawlies, and of course snakes. So I feel like he'd naturally take a liking to these movies.
...
I think Gyomei is definitely into religious horror. Movies like "The Exorcist" or maybe even "Ouijia" interest him. He likes to understand the psychology behind demonic possession and just the supernatural overall.
...
Shinobu... oh God. She'd probably be into something like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" or "The Purge". I feel like if she didn't hold back at all she'd kill anything/anyone, and everything/everyone in sight. Plus, given her humor I feel like those movies would match her unhinged side.
...
Rengoku might be into films that have to do with haunted objects, occasionally enjoying a good religious horror movie like Gyomei. Movies like the "Annabelle" series and "Childsplay" really interest him. It's astonishing to him how objects can become insanely haunted to the point of causing poltergeist activity. And of course he likes movies like "The Exorcist" and "The Nun" much like Gyomei.
...
Tengen doesn't really like horror movies, but he gets a good thrill watching a TV show like "dead files" or "ghost adventures". He likes to watch it with his wives, despite Suma chickening out about halfway through an episode lol. Regardless though he just finds it to be, in his eyes, pretty flashy to know that people will actually go out of their way to investigate all of these places. Mainly to prove to people that ghosts and demons do indeed exist. Be it through science or experience, he's interested in it all.
...
Giyuu isn't very picky when it comes to horror movies. Frankly I don't think he even likes them at all. The only time he'll watch one is when he's around Shinobu, and even then he'll still cringe at what she likes in that regard. However, I think he'd get a pretty big knack out of a psychological thriller. So movies like the "Predator" series, the "Paranormal Activity " series, and the movie "The Prodigy" are just some of his favorites.
...
Aaaaaannnndddd there it is! Hope you enjoyed, thanks for the request! Lmk if you guys want more!!

Penacony 2.1
Penacony is endlessly frustrating. The main takeaway I have is that parts of Penacony's world-building and character design are exceptionally well thought-out, but the main quest utterly fails to make use of any of it in an interesting or engaging way.
I'm reminded of Fontaine in that, like with the 'Ace Attorney' style trials, HYV is once again trying to ape a narrative style that they don't know how to write. In this case, it's... a lot of things.
Penacony makes a lot of allusions through its chapter titles, especially in 2.1. 2.0's final chapter is called "Whodunit" and ends with two impossible murders and at least 3 suspects. 2.1's chapter titles are a grab bag - there's detective novels, movies, music, a psychological gothic horror, a psychological thriller, philosophy, film noir, a children's book and references to depression-era America and the disillusionment experienced by the masses following WW1 (the Lost Generation), with a few other literary shoutouts scattered throughout the mission.
While I think these concepts were woven together rather effectively in concept and Penacony sounds like a really fun and fascinating place that I'd like to explore in a game made by someone else, I also think that the main quest we did get utterly fails to make use of them in any compelling or competent way either due to technical limitations or an unfamiliarity with what they're referencing.
There are no hard rules for writing any kind of story, but there are genre conventions for a reason - as a detective story, be it as a Whodunit (which this isn't) or a Howdunit (that's closer to the truth), I think Penacony failed to make the mystery here engaging in the slightest.
The Whodunit disintegrates when all three of your suspects say they ain't dunit and the player doesn't investigate any of them in any capacity whatsoever, and the Howdunit doesn't work when the player doesn't get to go to the scenes of any crime to try and find clues. The main way the mysteries are progressed is by rotating through one of four POVs and going to find the right person to talk to, who will then dump a bunch of exposition on you - rinse/repeat.
This information is sometimes repeated over routes, too, which feels especially tedious - the amount of time you spend in conversations feels pretty disproportionate to how much you learn and or see of the world. It's also really not helped by how verbose and repetitive HYVs dialogue style is.
Unlike the previous patch there's no real attempt at horror (unless you count the documents Acheron finds or Aventurine's backstory, which I don't), and I don't really consider Aventurine's long-winded gem gambit particularly interesting or compelling given how poorly defined the Cornerstones even are in both ability and significance.
(HSR unfortunately didn't really make good use of Topaz to establish that back in Belobog.)
Despite this entire story supposedly being a thrilling web of people with different motivations, it doesn't really play out that way either. Aventurine is supposed to be manipulating you, but you barely engage with him and you always broadly know what his plans are (especially if you're familiar with his motifs), and no-one else really... does much. There's theoretically off-screen politics with The Family, but Sunday and Gallagher are the only real reps there - the other three branches may as well not exist, and Sam just fucks right off. It feels like the complexity is being saved for later or there's just a lot less going on here than the game wants you to think there is.
A lot of Penacony's remaining world-building - mostly things that tie into the allusions to the Lost Generation, the disillusionment and abuse of Penacony's underclass etc. is mostly conveyed to you by either Acheron or Gallagher - you don't get to see it and it doesn't factor into the mystery outside of (probably) Gallagher's exposition. It will probably factor in next patch in some capacity but... come on. We're 2/3 done.
What the allusions in Penacony do accomplish are either loosely tying to the contents of a chapter or near explicitly outlining what's going to happen; A Cat Amongst the Pigeons, Double Indemnity or When the Sacred Ginmill Closes being the former, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Statue of the Happy Prince being the latter.
I would find this a lot cuter if the mystery hadn't already been spoonfed to me, figured out the murderer and Aventurine's exact trajectory by the time I got to play as Acheron. As it is...
To clarify, I really don't consider 90% of the clues being info-dumped to you 'engaging with a mystery' in a videogame. I'd like to walk around and investigate myself - even in books, detectives tend to visit the scene of the crime and I don't see why I should have to take someone else's word on what a place is like or how sad the people there are in an interactive medium where I should be able to go to those places and talk to those people myself.
Especially not in a trippy dreamworld where you can enter people's thoughts, mess with their emotions, see into their dreams, interact with invisible cartoon characters and have a weird cult that's sort of vaguely able to make you part of... a collective consciousness? I think? In a vague and nebulous way?
The dungeons were just the road to get to a location! What is this! I don't think I've ever played a mystery game so unwilling to let you solve a damn mystery!
I hated sitting around and listening to the characters tell me things I'd rather go find myself - I can take some of that, but not all of that, eapecially when barely anything else is happening in the meantime. It's a shame, too - the deaths outlined in the documents Acheron found sound like fun horror elements I'd like to see.
But thats just it. I'd rather have gone to try and find the traitor than have him reveal himself in the last minute. I'd rather confront Aventurine in some freaky Emoscape or nightmare caused by the Harmony rather than just get flashbacked everything really, really slowly. I'd have rathered done a lot of other things this game could've chosen to do, but didn't despite the possibility being very real.
Unfortunately, as usual, I get the sense that HYV took the easy way out again and that the story and gameplay weren't really made with each other in mind - and as such, I don't think this patch did very well with either.
Anyway, the secret main character. Aventurine. In concept he's really good and I think his motifs and literary allusions chain together really cohesively, but he was let down by the main quest again. I didn't find him very compelling. He didn't do much given how much screentime he had and way too much was revealed about him without me ever feeling like that time was spent productively.
I would've happily cut some of his segments to keep some mystery about him and had more Express exploration - I don't think he or Acheron needed to be playable, honestly. That time would've been better spent having them interact with the protagonist.
I feel if I'd been better able to connect to Aventurine as a character and was wondering what on earth he was planning then identifying his tragic motifs might have resonated with me more. Unfortunately despite the patch really wanting me to buy Aventurine as a sad, tragic meow meow who is secretly a paranoid nervous wreck, scared at all times and relying on his own luck, the way it chose to convey those personality traits to me was by having a dream-version of Aventurine show up and explain that to me.
Instead of like. Actually showing any of those traits at all. In a strssful situation. Like the one he was in. How'd we spend so much time with him and not get any of that? Seriously???
You can't put a character in front of me and say 'look he's sad. be sad for him.' You have to make me like him first. And I ended 2.0 on "oh, maybe I could like him. If they do more of this with him next patch".
I swear it's not that hard to make me like a character! You just have to do something interesting with them!! I'm not that bad!! I'm not really a heartless shrew! I can feel emotion, I swear, HYV is just really bad at pulling it out of me because they are terrible at writing characters feeling genuine and compelling, I feel like that's not too much to ask!
Can you show and not tell like, one thing? Is it that hard?! You couldn't even avoid having Sunday and Ratio explain Aventurine's really simple gem gambit to death!
I could've liked him. I really could've. And don't even get me started on Acheron and Black Swans stupid trailers.
So, yeah, I guess my final takeaway is that Penacony could've been really really fun and good and cool and I love the concepts here. I just wish literally any other company had written it.
Do you think next time they have Nasu over to visit, they can get him to punch up their scripts?
Other Notes
I was very disappointed that the game focused more on Aventurine's time on his homeworld than his relationship with the IPC, given what a major factor the IPC is going to be next patch and... that he just died for them.
It also kind of sucked that Acheron didn't have much to do beyond her cool showing at the end, and the Trailblazer's grand contribution was chatting to a DILF at a bar then doing a truly obnoxious boss fight.
Aventurine's sad tragic backstory also reminded me a lot of Scaramouche's quest in Genshin, which I hated. Guy calmly reacts to his horrific backstory, which is being shown to him, and doesn't actually concretely affect him, the characters around him or the story in any way is not fun, and it feels like a really cheap attempt to make the audience feel sad. This isn't to say that Aventurine's backstory didnt affect him; its that it coming back up in the final dungeon to haunt him didn't.
Aventurine's motifs are really cool and flow into each other nicely in concept but it really does suck that the danse macabre connection with the Trailblazer seriously fizzled out the way it did.
Sam fucking off and coming back to reveal his true identity the way he did was lazy and sucked. Have him run around being mysterious more, jeez.
The Bloodhound statues around the place were a cool touch and I liked them.
Black Swan's segments all sucked and were tedious. Should've cut 'em and let us investigate Acheron given, you know, she's a confirmed murderer and we really dismissed her as a threat super easily given that fact! What the hell was that! Why did we just take everyone's word on them not being the killer, what kind of murder mystery is this! If you didnt want to deal with any of that why even pretend this was a Whodunit!
How do you copy a genre designed to let you investigate characters to learn what their deal is. And just. Not do that. Hello? Hello???
I'd like to go to Clockie's Dreamville. That sounds fun. I want to go.
Can I have Penacony, actually? I'd have a lot of fun writing this place. It's so cool. It is my exact jam. Holy shit someone at HYV went hard coming up with the concept for this place, it's so good. Some of the side quests here are super cool too. God damn the main quest sucks though.
Aventurine is fun to play with. His boss battle fuckin sucked though.
i miss dan heng :(

15 OC Questions!
I was also tagged by @van-yangyin - thank you! I love how many times I've been tagged for this. I'll happily do as many as I get!
Anya (Baranova) Pavlenko
Are you named after anyone?
I'm not entirely sure, to be honest. My real name is Anna-Valentina Alexandrovna (The first part is pronounced like Anna from the movie "Frozen" if you're curious). "Alexandrovna" is the patronymic from my father, Alexander, so I suppose technically I'm named after him, but I don't think it really counts because all Russian names are like that. Anya is a diminutive of Anna, although it's my preferred way to be addressed.
Anyway, there's a family rumour that my father named me after his first crush which, if it's true, must've absolutely thrilled my mom. Her name's Yevgenia; Zhenya or Jenny for short.
When was the last time you cried?
I try to cry as little as possible. The last time was quite recently, though. It was a couple of weeks ago, at the airport, just before I boarded the first leg of my flight home. Kolya — you know him as Nikolai. He'd never tolerate that particular diminutive from anyone who's not close to him — came to say goodbye to me. He was trying so hard to be brave, poor thing, but he was crying a little bit and trying desperately to hide it, and that set me off. He doesn't cry often either, but it absolutely breaks my heart when he does. I had to hurry off so we didn't embarrass ourselves by giving away our weaknesses in front of each other like that. I cried my eyes out on the plane, though. I love him so much, and saying goodbye is always hard, no matter what I may claim is the "official story".
Do you have kids?
Thankfully, no. Children would definitely cramp my lifestyle. I don't think my darling Kolya wants kids either, so I'm sure that even if we do manage to settle down at some point, I'll still be able to dodge that particular bullet.
Do you use sarcasm?
I do, but not excessively.
What’s the first thing you notice about people?
I tend to notice little imperfections; asymmetry in a face, birthmarks, moles, wrinkles, scars... that sort of thing. Those are the things that make faces unique and interesting and beautiful. The little creases between Nikolai's eyebrows, for example? I love those. I'm a professional photographer, and I think I've always had an eye for fascinating physical details.
What’s your eye colour?
My eyes are blue.
Scary movies or happy endings?
I'll admit, I enjoy scary movies. Not the ones with senseless, gratuitous violence, but the ones that have the potential to be truly scary. Psychological thrillers and films that are scary enough to make me look over my shoulder for a few days afterward. When we're together, Nikolai watches them with me sometimes, but I know he doesn't like them. When the really scary or messy parts come up, he just wants to be cuddled and doesn't really want to look. I won't lie... I like scary movies for that reason, too. I'm a bit enamoured with the idea of him needing me to protect him from something. He's typically the strong one, or at least that's what he'd like everyone to think, so it's oddly nice when he lets himself be even a little vulnerable with me.
Any special talents?
Ooh... I don't think I should say what those are on a PG-13 blog. Ask my Kolya what my special talents are. Watch him blush. It'll be adorable and amusing, I promise.
Where were you born?
Brindleton Bay
What are your hobbies?
I would say photography, but that's also my job, so probably that doesn't count. My main hobby is painting and drawing. I also enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. I absolutely love to dance. I think that could be considered a hobby as well. Oh, and I like to knit.
Have you any pets?
No, I don't. My job requires a lot of travelling, and it wouldn't be fair to the pet if I constantly had to leave them with someone else while I'm away.
What sports do you play/have played?
I used to be a competitive figure skater. I also did gymnastics when I was young. One of my favourite sports is skiing, and I also enjoy weight training and yoga.
How tall are you?
165cm
Favourite subject in school?
My favourite subject in school was always art. I also liked physical education and history.
Dream job?
I'm lucky enough to have my dream job right now. I'm a professional photographer, and I specialize in sports and entertainment. My studio is called Shooting Stars, and I've gotten contracts from all over the world to do shoots for actors, musicians, athletes and performing artists. My photos have been in magazines, on the internet, and in loads of advertising and promotional materials. Between contracts, I actually do have a physical studio in Brindleton Bay, where I do both corporate and private portrait shoots for clients. It's just a little hole-in-the-wall place, but it's mine and I love it. My flat is above the studio, so it's convenient to be so close to my work when I'm at home. I can't possibly imagine anything better. Not everyone can say they're living their dream, but I'm proud to say I am.
______
I've tagged so many people already, but this time I'll tag @van-yangyin (because you tagged me), @bl-sims-anime @akitasimblr @enniewritesathing
As always, feel free to ignore if you've already done it, or don't want to do it!

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
01. ! - Day 30 - Kim Wooseok (Blood Kink)
• Obviously it would be my fav
• Not that it's something I am proud of

• The slow sex, the transformation, the ecstasy
• This was peak perfection, red satin and big dick
• In wooseok we trust
02. ! - Day 17 - Nakakita Yuma (Somnophilia)
• THE FACT THAT YN JUST WOKE UP IN THE END ITS WHAT IT DOES FOR ME
• This isn't a simple Somno fic, this is A SOMNO FIC
• Really, everyone should take notes on this imagine to write about this topic
• The subtle Perv aspect of this, the fear, the exasperation, the thrill
• I loved, I love your Yuma, but this was superior
03. ! - Day 05 - Cheon JunHyeok (Monster Fuck)
• That's a really perfect way to start a kinktober my guys
• Would recommend to my cat, my friends, my mom, but I think I would be jealous if they liked it more than me
• Seriously, this was perfect, the type to make me breathless and a little too hot
04. ! - Day 09 - Song EunSeok (Brat Tamming)
• The audacity of this YN is something even someone like me could never

• I saw it coming but I did not expect this, I swear, every word was a surprise
05. ! - Day 12 - Osaki Shotaro (CamBoy)
• One I didn't thought I would like the much I like it now that I read it
• Like, it was really good, I think I've read it three times now
• It's a little lighter then the rest and a little more intimate I think
• But it's really good nonetheless
• I love your depiction of Taro too, it's really a great persona and you should write more about him!!
06. ! - Day 23 - Suh Kyungmin (Perv)
• ANOTHER ONE THANK YOU
• Please don't ever stop making Perv things, it's really a thing that you dominate
• But this was really something else because IT WAS A IDOL POV
• AND THERE IS "NO READER"
• AND I LIVE FOR THIS I BREATH THIS IMAGINE
• Not much to say, but to feel
07. ! - Day 07 - Seo WooBin (Shibari)
• OK, this right here I'm going to use a word to describe that it's not often used
• But it was ✨Pretty✨ and I don't have other way to describe
• The use of the words, the subtlety of it
• This is really underrated and one of my favorites
• It deserves everything
08. ! - Day 04 - Murata Fuma (spanking)
• What was the describing??? Such a beautiful scene.
• One of my favorite idols from all of this, the writing in his personality and your creativity liberties here were perfect
• Perfect depiction of what I want for spanking, not some light slaps
09. ! - Day 10 - Park SungHo (Dacryphilia)
• GIVE ME ALL THE DARK KINK
• We all know that basically every dark kink will be in this because I'm a bitch for ir
• But I don't know if it's because it was one of the first, but it's really high up there
• You could do a Perv that's not like anything else I've read, and I really appreciate the non-repetitive aspect of it
• The ambience in this too was really something else
• It was like watching a thriller with the cold sweat through my body

madhouse | eddie munson & corroded coffin
eddie munson and corroded coffin x rockstar fem!reader
synopsis: now that your band, vertical axis, were forced to break up due to your bandmate's excessive drug consumption, you're corroded coffin's long-awaited new lead singer, and eddie wants to create a song that's totally off the charts for the band with you.
wc: 647
category: idk, friendly fluff???
contents/warnings: cussing. drinking. drugs. mentions of being admitted into a mental asylum, madhouse in this context. unspecified pill consumption.
a/n: can u tell i have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA for a badass metal band name???? LMAO. it's still pretty badass tho, vertical axis. this is a really short one, bc i have zero time nowadays to write. hopefully soon i can drop something. anyways hope u enjoy <3
++
"congratulations y/n!" jeff smiles, applauding.
"about time!" gareth shouts. "your old band was shit. you were better off without them. and you have no idea how thrilled eddie got when he heard vertical axis were cancelled and forced to break up."
"thanks guys," you smile. "but i'm definitely gonna miss my vertical axis guys. even though lee was always blazed coming to rehearsals." the reason why vertical axis got booted off 80s mainstream was all lee doncaster's fault. too much drugs can lead to absolute shittiness in playing the guitar, remember that.
"did new york's bootleg pennhurst treat you well?" gareth asks, a apologetic look on his face. "must be hard huh? finding out you and your band are done-zo in the loony bin."
you smack gareth on the back of his head. "it wasn't a loony bin, you psycho. it was rehab. a madhouse for my crazy druggie ass," you laugh. "it was alright. i was high off my meds when i heard so i didn't really have a reaction. my flight home from new york allowed me to think and... it sucks, obviously."
"woah woah, madhouse?" eddie repeats. "that bad?"
you shrug, nodding. "they shove pills down my throat. left me spaced out as hell," you explain. "yeah i'm bat-shit crazy, but can you blame me?"
"shove pills down my throat till i space out~" eddie sings.
you gareth and jeff exchange puzzled frowns. "are you singing my words?"
"sorry," eddie snaps out of it. "i had a melody in my head, can't waste it."
an idea seemed to spark gareth's mind after eddie said that. "hey. why not we write a song? you are one of the best lyricists in hawkins, y/l/n. get this, the new era of corroded coffin, with none other than y/n y/l/n singing our lyrics."
"s'not a bad idea." you shrug.
"and off to the studio, people!" eddie screams, running out of benny's to his van.
++
i'm gonna star in my own psychological thriller so go grab a seat, now
there will be blood and gore, a box office killer, a sell, out
make me a spectacle, i'll have a beautiful chemical melt, down
losing the screws in my brain, could be any, day, now
they gon' put me in a madhouse
eddie was shredding on the guitar, gareth smashing the drums, and jeff was bassing it up. tonight was corroded coffin's first gig since you, the former lead singer of vertical axis, joined the band.
shove pills down my throat 'til i space out
you perform your first single since the axis's disbandment to the bar outside of hawkins. turns out the people of indianapolis had liked eddie's band for a long time and you joining the guys had boosted the amount of fans they'd had before.
they wanna love me, hate me, listen-shame me, bat-shit crazy, can you b-b-blame me? la, la la la la...
the roisters seemed to really enjoy your new music, so you couldn't stop smiling even if you tried to. every now and then, you'd turn to look at eddie, who is always smiling back at you. he's feeling the serotonin rise too.
...they gon' put me in a madhouse, but is it you or is it me?
as soon as your set ends, the four of you run back to the bar, all ecstatic to talk about the magical experience you shared together on the stage earlier. "you just got us more fans, y/n!" jeff cheers.
"i've never heard a small crowd go that loud before." gareth growls in excitement.
"that was gnarly! they love us even more." eddie enlivens.
all you could do was just let out a big sigh of relief. "that was awesome." and in that moment you knew you made the right decision joining corroded coffin.

Fool Me Once
Tumblr media
For today's journal entry, I really didn't want to have no entry today. As much as possible, I want to maintain this daily journal habit. I just want to share that I have finished reading "Fool Me Once" by Harlan Coben. It has 8 episodes on Netflix, and I watched the first 5 episodes yesterday, completing the rest today. Although I haven't read any of Harlan Coben's books, these Netflix 8-part mini-series managed to keep me engaged until the end. However, I did notice some flaws. It is painfully slow in the first five episodes, and then everything picks up at episode six.
Maya Stern (played by Michelle Keegan) is the central character in the narrative, attempting to reconcile with the brutal killing of her spouse, Joe (portrayed by Richard Armitage). When she discovers surveillance footage featuring a familiar man inside her home, numerous unanswered questions linger. Driven to uncover the truth, Detective Sami Kierce (acted by Adeel Akhtar), leading the homicide investigation alongside his new partner Marty (portrayed by Dino Fetscher), delves into the circumstances surrounding Joe’s demise while grappling with his own concealed secrets. The complexity deepens as Maya's sister had also been murdered months before Joe, prompting speculation about potential connections between the two cases.
This exceptional mystery thriller has become a topic of widespread discussion. The characters are intricately developed, fostering an easy connection between the audience and their respective struggles. Brimming with mystery and suspense, the show maintains a gripping intensity throughout, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. The show's adeptness at sustaining intrigue and viewer engagement stands as a testament to its skillful execution.
Featuring multiple subplots, varying in significance, and boasting a narrative that is both imaginative and enthralling, "Fool Me Once" is essential viewing for enthusiasts of thrilling and thought-provoking experiences. Disregard any negative reviews; the show is truly fantastic.

The test
Summary: after his thriller with shavers, creator had decided there was no more money to be made on the Middleweight division. Midas begins to grow into his own body and puts more weight on to make the jump. He had a bumpy start at first but finally made his way into a contender fight with a man much like himself both strategically and defensively
-------------------------------------
Ever since his thrilling 9 round slugfest with shavers, he defended his title a few more times against another 16 contenders. He'd also chased a rematch with dark lord at Middleweight, but it fell through when he moved up a weight class, Rooney firmly expressed his belief that dark wanted no part in a rematch but Midas knew better.
After stopping the #6 contender in 8 rounds, he went back to the PC with a plate full of various meats and rice.
He nearly squealed in delight like a schoolgirl and had to bite his tongue, because it could very well be another one of creators sick jokes.
He turned to creator and pointed to himself; "for me?" He asked hopefully.
Creator nodded, and Midas needed no pretenses as he dug into the plate.
He thought it was a reward for once, until creator explained his reasoning.
"It's clear that there's nothing left for us at Middleweight, so you're jumping up...up to light heavyweight." He announced
"Sir, are you sure about this? I mean, there's some real killers in that division..." Rooney asked
"Yes I'm sure, it's the only way he'll get any challenging fights. This is happening." He said firmly to shut down any potential arguments.
The next few months of training had been rigorous and harsh, with calisthenics and weighted exercises mixed in to add more weight in muscle.
But with the new physical pressure came mental pressure, Midas began to answer things that had never been asked. He'd speak to someone in an empty room, Rooney asked, and he was just as surprised that Rooney didn't hear them.
Rooney had no idea what to say, he'd never seen anything like it.
"They tell me what I need to do, like during a fight. Sometimes they just keep me company but most of the time they want me to do really bad things... I want them to stop." He nearly pleaded.
"Want who to stop?"
"You can't hear them?!" He asked surprised
Rooney had left it at that, best not to pry or try to help on something he knew nothing about. He did plan on getting him checked though...
With all this pressure, Midas had only just turned 16, but this came with an upside. He hit another growth spurt that saw him stand slightly taller than both Rooney and creator at 6'1.
One day, he stepped on the scale and weighed in at 179 lbs even, he smiled once he saw that he made the weight limit.
However, the trend of tough matchmaking and unfair judging would continue to plague his career as it had in the past.
Despite the extra weight and height making him have to rethink all his strategies and fighting style as a whole, creator still decided to match him against the #9 light heavyweight contender, It was a tough fight but him, Rooney, and the crowd thought he done enough to edge the decision given the boos once it was announced.
He dropped another decision to the #10 contender, and Midas ditched his safety-first approach, trading his bicycle in for a bulldozer.
This was mainly because of the swift and brutal punishment inflicted on him after each loss and it got worse and worse. He decided what his opponents could do to him didn't hold a candle to what creator would do...
He went on a rampage through the division, avenging both of his losses by knockout and stopping 6 out of the other 7 contenders.
He now used his newfound height and reach to his advantage but that didn't mean he could hang at close to mid range, in fact he still excelled at those ranges because his hands got faster.
He's found himself firmly placed as the #2 contender and was on a fast track for a contender eliminator bout to see who'd get a shot at the dark lords title.
They hadn't known who this...Wilfred pedróza guy was, only that he took dark to a very close decision that many thought could go either way.
They watched film of pedróza and saw someone who was so fast, there should be a rule against it.
The man put on absolute clinics against world-class fighters and made it look easy.
His fast hands, accurate punches and slick defense had earned him the nickname El Radàr..
The Amp rounds only enhanced this perception, as his speed power had allowed him to throw fast, sharp punches from impossible angles leading to death by a thousand cuts.
That wasn't a joke either, Midas gagged at how cut and bloody some of his opponents looked post-fight.
But there were 2 things Midas could take advantage of, pedróza's stamina failed him from time to time. There was another thing, too.
"I think I could catch him if I blow an area up..." he suggested
"That's a good idea...yeah...yeah that could work!" Rooney exclaimed.
"You could out-last him too." Rooney said
"It could...all right, you two are gonna work on its stamina and defense. And show it some of those tricky feints you used to do." Creator pointed to Rooney and the two nodded.
He wasn't lying when he said they were gonna work on Midas' cardio, he used to be able to got 25 rounds but now he would probably go close to 40, he actually had a difficult time keeping the weight he'd gained.
He'd also worked on his already immaculate defense until he was slippery as an eel covered in olive oil.
Rooney also showed him a trick to feint by keeping his hands moving in a rhythm but breaking that rhythm every now and then, similar to how he did with his footwork.
Speaking of which, he worked his footwork to be able to switch stances even more fluidly to find hidden angles unavailable to others only locked in once stance. He also practiced finding traditional angles at long range with head, shoulder and foot feints.
Eventually, fight night came and he was ready, nervous but ready notheless.
Once again, creator told the two he'd be watching and Rooney hit the link and they were transported to the desert map; oasis.
Rooney stayed in the dressing room to help Midas wrap his hands and held him get warmed up before it was time to make the entrance.
They walked into the scathing hot sun and stayed in their corner as the ref began to announce.
"Ladies and gentlemen, our main event, a title eliminator match. In the red corner, weighing it at 177 pounds even, standing at 6 foot and-a-half, with a record of 172 wins, 2 losses and 103 big wins by way of knockout, introducing the number one light heavyweight contender, Wilfred "El Radár" pedróza!"
"And in the blue corner, weighing in at 179 pounds even, standing at 6 feet 1 inches, with a record of 160 wins, 3 losses with 152 big wins by way of knockout! Introducing former Middleweight Champion of the world and number two light heavyweight contender, MIDAS"
The two stepped in the middle of the arena and eyed eachother as the ref laid out instructions.
"Alright gentlemen, I wanna see a good clean fight. Keep your punches up and obey my commands at all times, touch up now." The two bummed fists and backed up.
The buzzer sounded, and the two got to a slow start.
They took turns jabbing at each other, and that had been Midas' plan from the get-go; to establish his jab to put pedróza on the back foot.
The only problem was that very few of them were landing.
Even when his opponents was a southpaw with a right jab that came at weird angles, pedróza seemed to be able to seamlessly step in and out of range to leave him hitting air.
Once Wilfred began jabbing back Midas immediately noted the sting and snap in each but still managed to sneak in some sneaky jabs.
The first ended up going to pedróza.
The second started off much the same way, but Midas began to move his hands more to feint and followed pedróza after he stepped back.
This soon proved to be a terrible idea as he was caught with a sharp right hand over his jab, he wasn't stunned or wobbled but it made him think.
Instead, Midas shortened his steps to bait the right hand out and soon repaid the favor by landing a quick right hook at the end of the round.
The third started slowly as well, but this time both fighters kept their hands moving with pedróza showing an educated effort in avoiding the jab while landing his own.
In the middle of the round, Midas got impatient and threw a long combination, but they all hit open air.
Pedróza came back with his own combo but Midas showcased his own defense by slipping each one.
Towards the end of the round, he noticed pedróza would step slightly to the left with his lead foot every time he was about to jab.
He used this tell to land a straight left down the middle that glanced him.
The second and third were closer, but still went to pedróza.
In the 4th, Midas slowly built momentum off of his jab, feints and timing.
Even still, any offense he threw back was slipped or ducked. Conversely, any offense pedróza threw was also slipped and ducked.
The two had reached a stalemate for the next 2 rounds but it just wouldn't do, pedróza was still winning the battle of the jabs and it showed in the scorecard.
Already down 6 rounds to none, Midas had to start pouring on the pressure but he'd gathered enough knowledge of pedróza to do so in a calm and cool manner.
For all of pedróza's unreadable straight punches, he telegraphed the hell out of his hooks.
He went out in the 7th and tightened his guard but moved his head off-line to make pedroza miss.
He began connecting with hooks to the body that had much more leverage due to Midas' increased arm span, but it still wasn't enough.
Pedróza was still coming back with sharp rights over his arm and connecting.
With that aside though, their new game plan was going accordingly.
"Go to his body, yank those punches from below. Remember "the thunder from down under" Just like the old days." Rooney had instructed.
Midas was taking action appropriately, he may have to drop a couple rounds but at least he began making progress.
In the end of the 7th, he shifted to orthodox after feigning a straight left and connected with a tremendous left hook in his side, making pedróza wince audibly.
He went back to his corner, cut up quite a bit, but not so much that he couldn't see. Other than that, he was unharmed.
Meanwhile pedróza went back to his corner clutching his side.
The two began to pick up the pace in the 8th, with pedróza beginning to land his lengthy combinations, but Midss still managed to dodge most of the fire.
He began to throw his own, going for 3 punches, then 4 when pedróza dodged them, then 5, then 6.
When he threw lengthier combos he noticed he was able to catch pedróza right on the tail end of them. Not only that, but he imposed his footwork, handspeed and offense so aggressively that pedróza was forced to go defensive, being unable to set up his own offense.
In the 9th, pedróza had slowed just a bit but landed a sharp 4 punch combination at the beginning of the round.
Then he landed another 5, and 3 more to boot.
He tried landing 2 more but Midas intercepted the first punch with a looping left that he set up by slipping to his right and sneaking his right foot forwards to shift to southpaw.
Pedróza was rocked and Midas threw 9 punches, interchanging between the head and body.
Pedroza was forced to cover up but he didn't relent and threw another long combo, pedróza's defense still held up.
Even if Midas managed to catch him, it was still only with the last 1 or 2 punches, but he was still landing punches.
Soon pedróza came back hard with sharp combos of his own but Midas was still fresh, even in the later rounds and managed to defend properly. The few that got through weren't enough to deter, let alone hurt him.
The 7th and 8th and 9th had been scored for Midas, but that was only 3 rounds to make up for the 6 he lost. Thankfully, though, pedróza had slowed down more.
In the 10th, Midas came out fast, throwing seemingly unending combinations using one punch to set up the next, and using that punch to set up the next and so on.
He used his shifting footwork more and more, moving one direction before swiftly switch stances and landing more punches before exiting at awkward angles.
Bur pedróza proved he had a strong jaw for when his defense failed him, as he was able to hang at close to mid range with Midas and landing his own accurate blows which bloodied his face up so bad the ref was forced to call a timeout.
He called the doctor over to inspect his wounds, and Midas began to panic at the thought of being stopped on cuts.
"Can you still see?" The doctor asked
"I'm not missing him, am i?" Midas asked sarcastically.
The doctor allowed the fight to continue but pedróza had been given precious seconds to recover.
Pedroza swiftly jabbed and moved, looking to make the cuts worse and succeeding, but Midas managed to corner him and emptied a whopping 13 punch combination and landed with 4 that rocked pedróza.
The 10th was scored evenly, but Midas almost had pedróza right where he wanted him.
Rooney stressed for him to really turn up the pressure in the next 2 rounds.
"You gotta really bore into him, go in and try to get him outta there. If you can't do that then at least set him up so that you can get him in the next. Focus the body but go up top as well." Midas nodded and stepped out quickly.
Pedróza's left hand dropped down and he was still able to land swift punches, but his blows had lost their snap.
Midas spent the whole round throwing punches every single second.
He alternated between the head and body. He looked dangerously close to stopping pedróza but he would always rally back to trade combinations with him before covering back up.
Towards the end, the two accidentally clashed heads but only pedróza was able to get his head down in Time and it caused a particularly nasty vertical gash on Midas' forehead.
He walked back to his corner and the blood had begun to trickle down his shoulders and chest 2 rounds ago, Rooney had to put his cutman skills to good use in order to even clean the crimson mask off him.
Once he did, there were far too many cuts to count and it was nothing short of a miracle that they hadn't stopped the fight.
"Look at him, he's tired and his defense is gone! You take the fight to that fucker and he won't know what hit him!" Rooney urged MT.
Except it didn't, not yet anyways.
He came out like an attack dog, but to pedróza's credit, he started strong. But Midas, fueled by desperation, began mauling him viciously.
After rounds and rounds and rounds of hard work, it was all about to pay off.
Pedróza had still been able to throw short combinations, but doing that only opened him up more. Besides, Midas'defense was still immaculate this late while Wilfred's had slowly been ground down and eroded.
Had the round gone on for 10 more seconds, Midas surely would've gotten the stoppage but the buzzer sounded anyways.
He'd begun to come back on the scorecards, but he was still down 4 rounds.
Rooney reminded him of their plan should it go to the Amp rounds.
"Remember, don't try and hit him directly, go for the area he's in."
The two stepped forwards but only pedróza was hunched over and breathing through his mouth.
"Alright boys it's the Amp rounds, anything goes. Touch up now" the ref ordered.
They powered up, backed up, and the buzzer sounded.
Pedróza sped up immediately, landing several damaging combinations, but Midas let off an explosion that forced pedróza back.
He then used his overheat ability to time him better but pedróza seemed to be impossible to read in this state.
Midas settled for ballistic jumping back and sending thermobaric blasts at pedróza.
Pedróza used the smoke to mask his advance and landed so many punches Midas was forced to cover up for the first time.
He stomped his foot to let off another explosion and hurt pedróza badly.
He began to hear the friends in his head telling him what to do, to maul him, maim him...to kill him, but he couldn't afford to lose himself just yet, he had to cling to sanity for just a bit longer.
The buzzer sounded and the two went back to their corners.
"Keep doing what you're doing, he's hurting and doesn't know what to do so he's just running at you in a straight line. Use that to your advantage."
Midas went back out and got more mobile.
He dashed and jumped in multiple directions to throw off pedróza's advance before countering with harsh punches or projectiles.
He constantly had to fight with himself to stay grounded, he had to remain tactical to set up his finish.
This trend continued and he managed to get the best of pedróza who held on until the bell sounded again.
"You know what kid, I'm gonna say it. You'll get him out this round, he's got nothing left but willpower and you're gonna break that willpower."
Midas practically ran out, having not slowed down on bit, and pedróza actually tried to run away.
Pedróza had seen him as nothing more than a name opponent and knew he was up on the scorecards, he even knew he was close to stopping him on cuts. His trainers continued to urge him to do what he was doing but now he was spent.
He was exhausted, beaten and afraid. He didn't wanna be here anymore, he didn't wanna fight anymore.
Midas lost himself among the voices. He not only listened to them but also gave them full control.
He let off several explosions that stunned pedróza, he let volcanic crystals cover his arms and hands and saw the outline of pedróza through the smoke.
He ran in, teeth gnashing and breaths coming out in snarls and committed one of the most terrible finishes ever seen.
Landing thudding punch after punch right on pedróza's chin while he simply stood there with his hands down trying to fight back but taking each and every one being wobbled and eventually out on his feet.
The ref came between the two and waved the fight off, as Midas had most likely done enough permanent damage to pedroza.
Pedróza looked at the ref, and then around at his surroundings with his mouth open, he clearly didn't know where he was.
The crowd roared loud and through the blood, sweat and cuts that stung because of the sweat, he raised his arms and smiled.
Rooney when to my to congratulate him but was met with 179 pounds of limp mango falling right into his arms.
At least he thought at the time it was 179 pounds, a hospital visit and prompt weight in would show he was 166 pounds, losing over 10 pounds over the course of the fight.
Pedróza, despite the loss, would still go on to be legendary but just like shavers, his confidence was shattered.
He'd remember the nightmares he had of the helpless pain and agony he'd felt during the fight, it was like Midas locked him and a cage of pain and threw the key away right in front of him.
The losses would pile up but he wouldn't be knocked out, even so he'd still take the light heavyweight title once Midas and dark moved to cruiserweight and would retire as a legend, only being knocked out once by Midas.
Midas hadn't come out unscathed either. Once the bleeding stopped and the scabs healed, he started his morning routine before looking in the mirror.
He nearly screamed at the whatever was staring back at him.
The face staring back had been a piccasso painting of scarred gashes, that couldn't have been him right?
He went to Rooney and asked if he looked...weird.
"Do I...look bad?" He asked
"What? No bud you look fine." He reassured with a smile.
"Do I have any...things on my face?"
"Oh those? They're just scars kid, everyone gets em at some point." He patted him on the shoulder.
"...w-will they ever go away?" He asked
"Nah, they're there to stay...but it's not all that bad..." Rooney said.
He ran back to the mirror and stared in shock.
I'm hideous...
He'd never cared about his appearance that much but he looked like a whole different person, like someone else's face was on his body.
Rooney rushed in after him, trying to console him.
"Look, it's really not that bad. Some people like scars!" He tried to cheer.
Midas let his head droop down, and Rooney felt his heart sink.
"...listen, if you really want to...I can show you a couple tricks to hide em, but you really shouldn't hide who you are right?"
Rooney showed him how to apply basic makeup to mask the scars while keeping his skin looking natural but masking them meant they were still there, a constant reminder and something that'd stick with him for the rest of his life.
