Thank you all for voting in the poll to decide who was going to be the leader of the band! It turned out to be such a close race!
#poorly drawn mdzs#better drawn mdzs#mdzs#madam lan#A-qing#Band AU#(Reminder that Madam Lan's design inspiration goes to Qourmet!)#Madam Lan may have been the winner per vote count but there were so many strong advocates for A-Qing!#I played around with a few versions of what the 'poll winner' art was going to be and ultimately decided I wanted them both.#As any good theater love knows though - The battle for leadership was a ruse. They *all* get a chance to be featured.#Cooperation was the real end goal! However I do think these two have the best frontman energy of the group.#Or at least 'crowd favourite' energy. I also really loved hearing what people thought their vocal styles would be like!#This was probably one of my favourite polls to do and I love drawing these characters a lot B*)#I'd love to spend a bit more time in this AU so count on me bringing it back.#One thing I keep feeling like I need to redeem myself on is Madam Lan's Translucent skirt. I have *not* done the concept justice yet.#It is such a crack-platonic ship but I want to think Madam Lan and A-Qing would enjoy each other's company.#Possibly also with JYL as well. They can be like mutually beneficial therapy dogs to each other.#Madam Lan never got to see her kids grow up into teenagers after all. She only had sons. Never daughters.#Even if she saw her kids once a month we do know she treated them with so much love and kindness.#She would bite the shit out of YZY for yelling at JYL. What a sight to see. A-Qing would also start biting (for fun).

Your hands trembled as you held the test in your hands as tears threatened to spill from your eyes as you read the test a smile graced your lips. Months and months of trying for a baby with Lucifer you'd almost given up, but you held the proof your waiting had finally paid off.
You reached for the door handle of the bathroom as you slowly moved forward out of the room as you saw nervous looking Lucifer your loving husband.
Looking up at you with his red and yellow eyes with burning curiosity and fear as you smiled and that's all the sign he needed before rushing to your side holding you close to him.
"We did it? Really?"
❂ He's overall ecstatic about the entire pregnancy since he only has one daughter as soon as he finds out he's having another one, he's over the moon about it.
❂ Also you don't have a choice but to take it easy for the entire pregnancy from the day he finds out you're immediately no longer allowed to do any kind of work.
❂ Not that you were allowed to anyways
❂ Charlie knows almost immediately after Lucifer finds out and she is also over the moon her eyes light up and she makes happy noises and squeals.
❂ She's excited to become a big sister ever since she was little she's always wanted to sibling.
❂ When you start to grow a baby bump both Charlie and Lucifer get REALLY protective of you and only some people are allowed to touch you.
❂ Lucifer loves to fall asleep listening to the baby's heartbeat.
❂ When it comes time to give birth Lucifer is nothing but a ball of nerves. If he can't be by your side then he's pacing around mumbling.
❂ Once the baby is born he rushed to your side saying praises about how he's so proud of you and if you we're ok.
❂ When he sees you in the bed holding your little girl he nearly cries (spoilers, He does)
❂ Charlie has a similar reaction when you guys come to the hotel carrying your newborn daughter that looks more like you than Lucifer but still has his eyes, Charlie's almost screams as she runs towards you.
❂ "I-It's....Is that my little sister?! She's so cute! Can I hold her?!"
❂ Vaggie has to literally pry Charlie away from the baby in order for you guys to hold her Charlie is a crying mess as she hold her little sister.
❂ Ever since she was born she remembers wanting a little sibling this is like a dream come true for her and she wouldn't have it any other way.
❂ As the baby gets older you realize that the child has inherited Lucifer's powers just as Charlie and he couldn't be more ecstatic.
❂ You both decided to name her Judas or Judy for short and Charlie is an amazing big sister offering to babysit whenever you guys needed a break and you couldn't be more grateful for it since Charlie is amazing with kids.
❂ Even though you're not Charlie's biological mother she still calls you mom and treats you like her mother although Charlie still loves Lilith to death, you're more of a mother than she is.

John and Julian (and Cyn) through the '70s
Last edited on 8 October 2023. All edits listed at the end. Text in between [ ] are my thoughts.
Since John and Yoko had moved into Tittenhurst in August '69 Julian often spend weekends with them there.
"And then I'd live for the weekends I spent with my dad and his new love Yoko at Ascot. My feeling toward their relationship was helped by the way I was treated. I was given incredibly expansive toys to play with and there was always something happening." Julian, 1982
Cynthia describes that she was relieved that Julian got on reasonably well with Yoko, but she was concerned by some of the more bizarre stories of what was going on at Tittenhurst park.
"One of the hardest aspects of letting Julian visit John was accepting that Yoko would presumably look after him when he was there. I didn't know what he would make of her cool manner. But in fact he seemed fine with it, and perhaps it was better for him to have a rather distant step-mother than one who was all over him. He never told me that she was unkind in any way, which was a relief. After that first weekend Peter rang regularly to arrange visits for Julian. Much to my amusement Julian had started to call Yoko Hokey-Cokey." Cynthia Lennon: John, p.314

Photos of Julian at Tittenhurst in 31 January 1970. [John and Yoko only returned from Denmark January 27th, so Julian came to see them the first weekend back.]
Rest of the timeline including pics, quotes and audio behind the cut because it got ridiculously long.
23 February 1970
An article is published in the Evening Post talking about Julian and Kyoko. It mentions that in 1969 there were four months that father and son didn't get to see each other and also spent Christmas apart.
Some quotes from John:
"Julian, last time I saw him, was a bit too protected, like all kids are. It took him two weeks to unwind, when he was last with us." "I'm not a daddy with a set of bricks to play with. When I'm with the kids, they just come along with me and be with me, whatever I'm doing." Link to article
March 1970
Over the New Year John and Yoko had spent some weeks in Denmark with Tony Cox, his new partner and Kyoko. That arrangement had worked quite well and it seems it motivated John and Yoko to try to get closer with Cynthia and Roberto also. It seems in the end not much came of these good intentions.
Up until now, when Julian came to spend the weekend at Tittenhurst Park, it was Les Anthony who shuttled him back and forth between his parents. However, shortly after their return from Denmark, John and Yoko made a conscious effort to spend time with Julian, Cynthia and her fiancé Roberto Bassanini. John later remarked: "All five of us ate together and we saw to it that the children see us all together. Maybe six of us will go on vacation with Kyoko. Julian, Cyn and Roberto, so that everyone feels secure. That's very important. In order to have peace, it's necessary to start inside the family." Lennonology, source L'Express [3/23/70]
Instead John and Yoko left for LA 23 April 1970 to undergo Primal Scream therapy with Janov. They stayed for almost five months in the US and returned to England 15 September 1970.
June 7th, 1970
While John and Yoko are in LA doing their therapy with Janov. One of the topics discussed was John's troubled relationship with his son.
The meeting, which Vivian Janov describes as 'a very strong emotional day for him,' had taken place in April, and John was making an effort to maintain communication with his son. From Los Angeles, John posted a card to Julian today: 'I'm sorry I haven't called or written much. I've been a little sick. We miss you a lot, and send you our love... won't be long till I see you'. Lennonology
After the return from the US in September Julian continued to regularly visit Tittenhurst. During those visits he usually played a lot with Les Anthonys four stepchildren, who at the time were also living on the estate.
"Once Dad had a little white shed built on an island in the middle of a lake on the grounds of the house. He had bought these little white amphi-cars that sped across the lake. The three of us all dressed in white to spend the day there. Crazy, but wonderful."Julian, 1982
In this interview Julian describes going over to Tittenhurst just to be an idiot with his dad but also how scary the big house and his bedroom situation could be to him at night.
[The floorplan of Tittenhurst (LINK) actually shows Julian's room just across the hallway from John and Yoko's room but half a stairway down. There's not really a closer bedroom and he may have been put there, so that he has his own bathroom. It being so far away, small (somewhere he or Cynthia call the room a closet) and scary are after all the memories from a child's point of view.]
For the most part the visitation arrangements seemed to have continued in 1971. In the summer, when John and Yoko were filming for the imagine documentary, Julian can be seen roaming the property with his friends.
Saturday, July 17th, 1971 With the cameras rolling, John and Yoko roamed the Tittenhurst Park grounds in a golf cart with Jill Johnston. As promised, Blue Pools delivered the new lake house, and the Lennons spotted location. More footage was taken of the house under construction, the Lennons and Johnston rowing on the lake, and Julian and the neighbor children reading excerpts from Grapefruit on camera and running amok in the fields. Lennonology

Julian Lennon: Tittenhurst was this enormous palace-like place with 99 acres, golf-cart buggies, a lake, a little island in the middle of the lake. It was like a house of fun. It was wonderful. I loved the place.
LINK to a longer version of the quote but in German. Not adding much just both John and Julian sharing a mutual love for Dr. Pepper at the time, playing the mellotron and the children daring each other to enter a 'haunted' building on the property.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's also at Tittenhurst that Julian meets May Pang, who had started working for John and Yoko as an assistant through ABKCO in NY and had come to England as a messenger to bring film rolls.
"There were a lot of great moments at Tittenhurst that I do fondly remember, you know, giggling and laughing with Dad. And, as they say, shooting the shit. But it was difficult to know, you think, 'OK, well, is this going to stay? Is this what it's going to be, now? Can I count on this? Can I be here next weekend or the weekend after? Is that going to happen?' That was one of the, obviously, the hardest pill to swallow, was the constant change. You know, you thought things were going to settle down, but they just never quite did." Julian, 2018
"I lived an ideal life between then [Cyn and Roberto] and John and Yoko, but it all ended when Cynthia's marriage broke up and Dad and Yoko moved to the States." Julian, 1982
The big cut happens when on August 12th 1971 John and Yoko leave for NY and take up residence in the St. Regis Hotel.
At first their plan was to search for Kyoko, so that she too could come for visits at Tittenhurst like Julian. In September John and Yoko appeared on the Dick Cavett show and briefly talked about their wish that both their children could be with them.

[In her Lost Weekend doc, May talks about Julian calling and Yoko not allowing her to put the call through to John. She says at that point they hadn't spoken for a couple of years. Then a few weeks later she is in the audience for George Harrison's appearance on Dick Cavett. The show is aired in November '71, so if there is anything to her anecdote she may mean they hadn't seen each other for two months instead of two years.]

"Lennon admits that he is scared to say too much publicly about the case, because it was the initial publicity that had spurred Cox to vanish. He talks about how hard it is for Ono to see pictures of her daughter: I have to hide them. Asked about his own son, Julian, he says: I don't have that 'where the hell is he?' bit. But he reveals that when they were in England, and Julian visited them every weekend, it was difficult for Ono to be with him when her own daughter wasn't there: It was killing her." source

Cynthia quoted in a Sunday paper: "John hasn't seen Julian since he went to America. It is rather a long time. He seems to be occupied with Yoko's daughter now. He does write to Julian, just normal letters, asking how he is getting on at school and things like that. And he sends him presents. He sent him a toy truck at Christmas. I don't keep in touch with John anymore. It's purely through Julian that we keep in contact. Julian loves his father. He follows his career in the newspapers. He goes to a private boys' school where people don't bother who he is. He went to a state school but he had problems there."
14 June '72
Cyn's complaints are repeated in the LA times, where it said that John hadn't seen Julian in eight months. "He seems to be occupied with Yoko's daughter now."
On 22 September '73 John and May leave for LA and only a few days later on 2 October '73 it is reported in the newspaper that Cyn separated from Roberto Bassanini.
Cynthia gave some interviews on her recent separation and the fact that she and Julian moved back to Hoylake, where Julian goes to private school.
"Unhappily Julian misses his father, which is only natural. We only hear from John at Christmas and when the birthdays come around." 7 October '73, Sunday Mirror
"Julian is always asking after him but of course John is in America now. It's been hard for him not seeing John for several years. This sort of thing is naturally upsetting for a child." 7 October '73, Sunday People
According to May's book, while John had broken up with her, she went to the Dakota to be with Yoko. Yoko there told her that she had decided it was time for Julian to come for a visit and May should at least reunite with John for that period to help him with it. May agreed to go back to John for two weeks, but it ends up being more like a year.

During the over a month long visit May writes, that they went to Disneyland three times and had brunch together the first morning. Meanwhile John is still having some wild times. Since Julian is staying with Cynthia, he goes out with May. The Kotex incident and nearly killing Jesse Ed Davis happen at the same time of this visit. May also places Cynthia asking John to have another child together during this trip.
As the visit ends May makes John promise to call Julian regularly.
"It is the right thing to do. I promise you, Fung Yee." He was silent for a while, then John said suddenly, "I really would like to keep in touch with me son." May Pang, Loving John p.168
Julian too, took a lot of positive out of the meetings around this time.
"Mum and I flew out to the States and stayed at the Beverly Hills Hotel. At least Mum did, I spend every minute of every day with my Dad and Yoko. " Julian, 1982
In later recollections Julian correctly puts the first visit in the time-frame that John was with May.
“Dad and I got on a great deal better than,” recalls Julian. “We had a lot of fun, laughed a lot and had a great time in general when he was with May Pang.” Julian in The Times, June 13 2009
May Pang: Loving John. About this visit and how it was set up.
In April 74 Julian sends a Thank you tape to John and Yoko for his birthday gift. Even though John is with May at this time, the present it seems was sent from the married couple.
The present in question according to Julian was a guitar, decorated with a mirror, writing and other stuff:
John writes to Cyn 22 June '74 a typed letter asking about Julian's holiday plans. Interestingly as the return address he gives the Dakota. He wants to send May to bring Julian.
Tumblr media
19/20-25 July 1974 Instead of being collected by May, Julian sails with Elton John, Tony King, and Cyn per boat from Southampton to New York.
[In her book Cynthia wrongly remembers this as her first visit with John in the US. She also claims this visit was completely her initiative, which as proven by the letter wasn't the case. The whole anecdote is interesting however because she says that it was never the plan to stay with Julian, John and May but stay in NY with Jenny Boyd. Jenny apparently wasn't told about that plan, because in the end she wasn't there to home Cynthia. (May on the other hand remembers that Cynthia was staying with friends but they left without her and she was lonely, so she ended up coming with them.) In the end (and to John probably rightly or wrongly suspiciously) what was planned as just a trip for Julian with his dad turned into Cynthia coming along most of the time.]
Cynthia'a account about how this meeting was set-up and why she was with them during the trip.
Tony King in The Tastemaker simply writes: “John Lennon wanted to see his son, so I took Julian and John’s ex-wife Cynthia along with me.”

John and May take a trip to Denver. Instead of coming with them Julian stays with Cyn in LA.
When the whole vacation is coming to a close, it is decided that Julian should come for another visit for Christmas. John is clear that he wants him to come alone.
Both May Pang and Cynthia wrote about this visit in their memoirs. [Cynthia is clearly mixing up and merging the first and second trip together in her recollection of it.]

Julian, accompanied by Apple staffer Steve Brendell, arrived in NY on this day for Christmas with John and May. Mimi was also invited but declined to come.
While they were in NY Yoko also came by because she wanted to greet Julian.
John, May and Julian flew to Florida on December 22. Lennon said he accepted Levy's Florida invitation "because I was so worn out anyway" from back-to-back studio projects "that I didn't know what to do with my son Julian." John figured that at Disney World, "I could sort of sit in a room or something and Julian could play with Morris's kid." John's quotes are from his trial testimony Big Seven Music Corp, 75Civ, 1116; In Stan Soocher Baby You're a Rich Man, Suing the Beatles for Fun and Money
Until 29 December they spent time in Palm Beach and later returned to Orlando (Disney World).
During this visit, Julian was helpful in influencing John and George making up and the thus the dissolution agreement of the Beatles coming along.
Julian remembers his Christmas visit with John and May fondly: “My memories of that time with Dad and May are very clear - they were the happiest time I can remember with them.” Julian in The Times, June 13 2009

In early February 1975 John moves back into the Dakota and resumes his marriage with Yoko.
John gives an interview to SPIN magazine in early spring 1975. In it he is asked about his private life, his recent return to Yoko, what his relationship with May is like now, and also about Julian:
How about you as a father? How old is your son [Julian] now? He is 11 now. All I know is that you took him to Disneyworld … right? Yeah, that was hell. Disneyland was better, the first time, in L.A., I took him there. Because I went with a gang, and there were a few of us who were flying a little. But Disneyworld — I was there on the most crowded day of the year, around Christmas or something. Seeing him is good. What we do is irrelevant. I went through a period of, “What are we gonna do?” and all that crap. It doesn’t really matter. As long as he’s around. Cause I don’t see him that often. How is it for an 11-year-old boy to have John Lennon as a father? It must be hell. Does he talk about that to you? No, because he is a Beatle fan. I mean, what do you expect?? I think he likes Paul better than me … I have the funny feeling he wishes Paul was his dad. But unfortunately he got me … It must be hard to be son of anybody. He is a bright kid and he’s into music. I didn’t encourage him, but he’s already got a band in school. But they sing rock’n’roll songs, ’cause their teacher is my age. So he teaches them “Long Tall Sally” and a couple of Beatles numbers. He likes Barry White and he likes Gilbert O’ Sullivan. He likes Queen, though I haven’t heard them yet. He turns me on to music. I call him and he says, “Have you heard Queen?” and I say “No, what is it?” I’ve heard of them. I’ve seen the guy … the one who looks like Hitler playing a piano … Sparks? I’ve seen Sparks on American TV. So I call him and say, “Have you seen Sparks? Hitler on the piano?” and he says, “No. They are alright. But have you seen Queen?” and I say “What’s Queen?” and then he tells me. His age group is hipper to music … at 11 I was aware of music, but not too much.

30 July 1975
About Julian ... I'm lucky if I see/hear from him myself. She allowed him over here twice last year ... but insisted on coming herself! You can imagine how thrilling that was ... she thought she could walk back in coz I wasn't with yoko!! Now we're back together again she stops him phoning me ... which he did a lot last year ... once a week. He's a bright little boy ... a bit 'sneaky' like his dad ... but he's gonna need that to survive his mother! Our relationship is pretty good --- he knows where I am and what my life is like ... he thinks of me a litlle too much in terms of 'money' etc ... which is what cyn and her mother (so called) have taught him (by example). He will run right to me when he's older ... we all run somewhere ... so I can wait. I got him well hooked on America ... which isan extraordinary place to say the least ... more on that in other letters perhaps. Oh yes the baby is due in November! Conceived feb 6. I tried to send Julia to see julian ... she was given the cold shoulder. When I get to England I'll show you them both. I would love to see yours. Letter to Leila, John Lennon Letters edited by Hunter Davies
After only five months being back with Yoko, communication with Julian has become more sporadic again. To his cousin Leila John complains that it's Cynthia keeping Julian from calling and about her tagging along the previous year. He also claims that he sent Julia to check in on Julian.
Julia Baird in a '83 interview confirms John's claim to Leila, that he hadn't heard from Julian and sent his little sister to check up on him.
"He kept asking in letters and on the phone, 'Please will you go and see Julian? Will you go and see Julian? Will you go see and see Julian? I haven't heard from Julian. His mother's got a cob on. Can you please go and see what's going on?' [...] Anyway eventually Aaron persuaded me that I should go. He was the one that when we got another letter asking, 'Have you been to see Julian yet?', he said, 'Look, he's never asked you to do anything. I think you should go.' [...] We went and John had given us the address, I didn't know where it was. And she seemed very embarrassed to see me. In fact so much so, that I backed off. I just said, 'Is Julian there, please? I'd like to see him.' And she said, 'No, he's gone out.' And I just said, 'Well goodbye, then.' It was very odd, very bizarre."
In her memoir Cyn doesn't mention John sending family to check on them but has an opposing recollection of who was unreachable:
"Initially he did: he phoned Julian as before, every few weeks. But the calls became less frequent, and all too often when Julian tried to phone John he couldn't get through. Yoko, or one of their employees, would tell him that John was sleeping or busy. Discouraged, Julian would wait weeks before trying again. " Cynthia Lennon, John p. 346
1 May '76
Cyn marries John Twist. John and Yoko send a telegram: "Congratulations, good luck, God bless the three of you, John and Yoko.”
According to Cynthia a few weeks later John calls her to invite Julian over for a visit during the school holidays to meet his brother. Yoko and John take the children for a holiday to Long Island. Cynthia also writes that Julian was mugged during his stay in NY, when John told him to go out by himself to buy a harmonica he wanted.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Photos of Julian with John and Yoko in summer 1976.
The only other person I have read mention the '76 visit is John Green in Dakota Days.
As the apartment at the Dakota grew more crowded, John retreated to the quieter and more spacious southern shore of Long Island. He took Sean with him and brought Julian over from Britain. Yoko kept him posted with a barrage of phone calls. "How goes the war, Charles?" he chimed into the receiver. "No casualties so far. How goes the peace?" "Great. It's absolutely beautiful. I've got a bit of sea and a bit of green and my sons, and even once in a while I even have my wife. You should come out here and get some of this. It's delightful." Dakota Days, p.97
[Aside from Cynthia's and Green's brief mentions of the trip, there is very little information on this NY visit. Even Robert Rosen, who supposedly read John's diaries multiple times, has nothing to say about this or the '77 visits. He even claims repeatedly that Julian and John first reunited in 1979 and hadn't seen each other for four years at that point.]
One of Julian's memories that most likely fits this visit:
Julian first played piano when he was thirteen, visiting his father and Yoko in Montauk, Long Island, after Sean, his half brother, was born. Their next-door neighbor had a piano, and Julian and his father went there one day. Lennon played a couple of tunes, then Julian asked, "Can I have a go?" Julian to Rolling Stone, 1985
Another one that Julian doesn't connect to a date but he remembers the new situation after his little brother was born:
[Yoko] was very loving towards me, even after their son Sean was born. Right at the beginning I felt a few pangs. They were there with their own son. Where did I fit in? But every time I went over Dad would lay on amazing treats, and Yoko was always loving towards me." Julian, 1982
In the same interview Julian also tells the story of his dad offering him a joint when he was about 12, so that might have also been the '76 visit, or the '74/'75 Christmas visit.
Cynthia claims she had trouble getting the money she was supposed to use for Julian's school. She asked John to split the trust fund, so that she can withdraw money from it easier. John agreed.
Cynthia publishes the letter in her book John and calls it "cautious, polite and to the point":
"I explained that, as he and Yoko were out of the country, it was impossibly difficult for me to get at Julian's money: 'Nothing can proceed without your signature - it means I'm forever overdrawn at the bank and have to wait on the convenience of your lawyers ... I want the best for Julian, and his standard of life shouldn't suffer because of lack of good management on your part, which has been happening since the fund was set up ... The money, instead of having doubled through good investment, is dwindling through lack of interest on your part ... It's just so important that this whole arrangement is sorted out without animosity or aggravation ... The way things are going Julian's financial prospects when he is 25 will be virtually nil and he is going to want to know why... It is one thing fighting for your rights but totally ridiculous fighting against your own son's interests, which is what seems to be happening.' "
[She says she ends the letter with thanking them for arranging the Concorde flight for Julian last summer. However according to wiki Concorde didn't fly to NYC until November 1977. (That years Christmas John and Yoko do indeed book a Concorde flight for Julian.) So I suspect that her supposed letter is specifically written for her book and not an actual document as the presentation suggests.]
In mid-October Cynthia gives an interview to Woman magazine that also got picked up in multiple newspapers. In it she talks about their relationship splitting after their first LSD trip, John getting upset with Julian when he couldn't eat with a knife, alleges that she was being followed by a private detective in Italy,...
A report on the article in the Burton Daily Mail from 19 October '76 also quotes Cynthia as saying:
"Since then their relationship has been beautiful," she says. "They talk a lot on the phone, there've been other visits and he's going again this year. I believe now that John is completely off all drugs, has been off them for years, otherwise I'd never let Julian go."
[He's going again this year indicates that there was another visit planned in 1976. If that happened or fell through, I haven't found anything about that.]
October 25th, 76
John sends Julian a postcard from Singapore. “What happened to ya?”
Even though the previous few months there was a visit and positive communication about the finances, Cynthia's decision to publicly complain in the papers angered John. He responded on November 26th 1976 with an open letter in the Daily Mail.
"Lennon tells first wife: Stop blaming Yoko," it read: "As you and I well know, our marriage was over long before the advent of LSD or Yoko Ono. Your memory is impaired to say the least. Your version of our first LSD trips is rather vague. You seem to have forgotten subsequent trips altogether. You also seem to have forgotten that only two years ago, while I was separated from Yoko Ono, you suddenly brought Julian to see me in Los Angeles after three years of silence. During that visit you didn't allow me to be alone with him for one moment. You even asked me to remarry you and give you another child 'for Julian's sake.' I politely told you no and that anyway I was still in love with Yoko. Finally, I don't blame you for wanting to get away from your Beatle past, but if you are serious about it you should try to avoid talking to and posing for magazines and newspapers. We did have some good years so dwell on them for a change."
Cynthia answers to the press after this, saying she doesn't want them to throw mud at each other and repeated "All I want to do is forget the Beatles and enjoy my present life". Still, only a few months later in 1977 she starts to write A Twist of Lennon (allegedly gleefully on a typewriter Yoko had gifted Julian). In her later memoir John she writes she was persuaded to do it by her husband John Twist who believed it would make their fortune.
Julian is sent to boarding school for that time. [In her book John Cynthia explicitly remembers that she moved to Ireland to write. However newspaper reports from the time suggest that the move happened later. So, probably Julian wasn't boarding at this time but those months in '78.]
At the same time communication between John and Julian was happening regularly and according to his diaries he got excited by the idea of buying Julian a keyboard.

Julian comes by Concorde to stay at the Dakota during his school holidays.
[At the time of Julian's visit John and Yoko were still helped by the FBI to deal with the kidnapping threat and extortion attempt that had been going on for weeks and scared them badly. Also, Tony Cox had made contact by phone and agreed that Kyoko could visit for these holidays but then disappeared again and John would never hear again from Kyoko. I don't know if Julian was told any of this but I assume it probably was one of the more tense christmases.]
Going by Giuliano because neither Cynthia nor Robert Rosen mention this trip by Julian at all, John was very excited about Julian coming getting up early and baking bread for him. Julian gets close to Nishi and thereby brings forth John's competitive streak. John tries out the parental philosophy of wanting to spend time with Julian instead of giving him material goods, Julian goes 'oh, really' and John caves in. When he leaves John draws a portrait of Julian. Source
Tumblr media
[Since Robert Rosen, who also read the diaries, doesn't even know about the '76 or '77 visits (and Giuliano too thinks they saw each other last at Disney World), they may not be the source for the above. I thought it might have been from Dakota Days but it's not. John Green mentions the '77 Christmas visit but says the family were going to Florida to meet Julian there because of the security threats. I think Green is confusing this and a later visit, so I will insert his account of what John told him on returning there.]
Julian stays most of January. Goes to see the musical The Magic Show with Yoko and the band Riff-Raff with John.

In February of 1978 Cynthia and her husband sell their house and move away from Ruthin to Eire to avoid a 'wealth tax'. They leave Julian to be a boarder at his school. Cynthia and John Twist return in December, probably because they missed Julian.

A conversation with Cyn and excerpts from her memoir A Twist of Lennon are published in News of the World.
John, Yoko and Sean are in Japan for their summer vacation. Through his London lawyers John tries to stop the publication of Cynthia's book as a serial in the News Of The World.
Tuesday, June 13th, 1978 Having been telephoned in Japan with the details of Cynthia's memoir excerpt in News Of The World, John instructed his solicitors to issue a High Court injunction in an effort to prevent the publication of a planned second installment. Frere Cholmeley & Co., Lennon's attorney in London, described the piece as 'a salacious and gribby little article,' although it was qualified with the statement: 'He does not deny that he held parties or took drugs, but he deplores the publication of intimate details of his married life.' Friday, June 16th, 1978 In the case of Lennon v. News Group Newspapers Ltd and Twist, Lord Denning rejected John's application for an injunction in London's High Court today, permitting the publication of more excerpts from A Twist Of Lennon. For his par, Denning was not impresses with John's argument that the article's publication was a breach of confidence of the marriage: 'I cannot see that either of these two parties have had much regard for the sanctity of marriage ... It seems to me as plain as can be that the relationship of these parties has ceases to be their own private affair. They themselves have put it into the public domain.' Sunday, June 18th, 1978 Having successfully defended the right to publish excerpts from A Twist Of Lennon, today's edition of News Of The World featured part two of their series: 'How Yoko stole my husband.' " Lennonology
When the book actually was released feelings turned out to be much softer than expected. Cyn ends her first memoir with the words :
I still feel very proud of the Beatles and their accomplishments. My life during that period was an education, an education I wouldn't have missed. It has left me feeling enriched, not embittered, enlightened not blinded. All I can think to conclude my story is to say, 'Thanks for the memories, and in the words of the I CHING, no blame.'"
After finishing reading his ex-wife's book, according to Robert Rosen, John was relieved and enjoyed the nostalgia. He said a prayer for Cyn: "Dear God, please show her The Way. Thank You. Thank You."
Postcard to Julian:

[I can't make out the date on the card. Julian's Beatles memorabilia book says it's from '71 but that's obviously wrong with Sean being included and Julian's Ruthin address on it. John makes the reference to being a farmer. They bought their farm in February 1978, so I put it that year. May be wrong though.]

Julian is supposed to join John, Sean and Yoko's visiting nieces in Palm Beach.

[John taking a photo of Julian in '79]
There are multiple, very different accounts for this visit, that includes Julian's 16th birthday celebration.
John bought Julian a motorcycle for his birthday.

At one point they went to Disney World, (which none of the accounts of the trip even mention), where this photo of Julian and Yoko's nieces was taken:

Accounts from:
Robert Rosen [Rosen writes that Dan Richter's children came for a visit. Correction: I said before that that because Dan wrote in his book that he never saw John again after 1974, it seemes unlikely to me that his kids would be sent out to John and Yoko five years later. However Dan Richter does confirm that in his interview on the Podcast Glass Onion: On John Lennon episode 16:
"My kids would go down, they had a place down in Palm Beach or whatever it was down in Florida. And they were there at Christmas and bring Julian and they would fly my kids down to play with Julian. And everybody, the sense we got was they were happy!"
This visit doesn't happen over Christmas but it sounds like he is talking about more than one occasion that happened and probably Christmas is one example. Could also mean that Rosen is mixing up the occasion for that anecdote.]
Cynthia Lennon
Fred Seaman
Geoffrey Giuliano
John Green [Green puts this actually to the '77 holiday visit, where he wrongly writes they went to Florida. I think (if his stories are to be believed at all) he confuses John's anger and disappointment upon return with this visit of Julian's. It also fits with being in Florida.]
[I recommend to read all of them. Lots of drama. I may one day make a comparison post between all the account because they are fascinatingly different.]

April 9th 1979
John writes to Mimi saying Julian would be welcome to live with them if he so chose but there had been no arrangements made.
Q: Did you ever plan to go and live with him [John] in New York? Julian: "When I was in my early teens we'd spoken on the phone about the possibility of me going to college over there. I think it was wishful thinking on both our parts because I felt uncomfortable about the situation and I believe he did, too." Hello! Magazine, 1995
April 25th 1979, Postcard to Julian from NY:

Julian declines to join his dad, Yoko and Sean for their family's yearly vacation in Japan.
[July 1979 In the context of getting one of his guitars Julian said that John bought him a Sony Walkman as a gift when they were brand-new. He puts around '73-'74. However according to wikipedia the Sony Walkman was first sold in July '79, so that present would have been sent to Julian around this time, maybe directly from Japan.]
December 1979
On 3rd-4th December there is a two part feature in the Daily Mail called "The Sons of the Beatles" on Julian and Zak.
"When I'm in New York, we go out quite a lot together round some of the art galleries, or to his house at Long Island. When we stay in we have musical jam sessions together singing out latest songs to each other. I still listen to Beatles music. Although I quite like some of my father's solo albums, I much prefer what he did with the Beatles." (quoted from Lennonology p. 508)
Also that month:
"More disturbing to John were the ongoing trials with Julian. The sullen teen continued to vex his father with his on-again, off-again plans to visit over Christmas. At first Julian said maybe, as long as they didn't go to Florida. Then it was a flat no, using school exams and a new girlfriend as an excuse. At the last minute he called saying he would come to New York only if he could bring a friend, but Yoko turned him down. As usual John didn't challenge her. Julian retaliated by sending his father a tabloid article about rock stars' sons, which focused on both him and Ringo's son Zak Starkey, and went into detail about the trials of being the offspring of a Beatle." Lennon in America by Giuliano p. 218
On the other hand John Green does write that Julian spent Christmas '79 with John, Yoko and Sean. He even says that Julian stayed until February. ("John stayed in the Palm Beach house until February, luxuriating in the sun and sea, forging new ties with Julian and delighting in rediscoveries of himself." p.229) [This can't be true however because John was definitely in NY for Christmas and New Years. John and Yoko did buy a house in Palm Beach late January however and were spotted there a few times in February. I can't find a mention of Julian being spotted with them, so it may or may not have happened. I do think between the two of them Giuliano's account is probably more accurate. The Daily Mail article he mentions of Zak and Julian had come out on 3 or 4 December, so that is also believable that it had come up in pre-christmas discussions. But of course it's possible that a visit happened anyway.]
1980
Julian called in February 1980 to set up another meeting with his dad. This time John denied him, surprisingly because he was worried about Julian's schooling. Through Cynthia he had learned that Julian was failing his O-levels, had started smoking, staying out at night drinking, had gotten in trouble with the police for setting up fires and racing through town on a dirt bike. "John just prayed that Julian didn't hurt himself." There is also continued conflict over money. John felt that Julian every time they spoke asked him for more money. "And though John continued to feel guilty about having abandoned Julian and Cynthia, he'd be damned if he was going to be like every other rich asshole father who'd abandoned his family and then used money as a poor substitute for love and companionship." source
In March 'A Twist of Lennon' gets its paperback release and new reviews are printed in the press.
Summer 1980
When John sat for a portrait painting with Sean for the artist Nancy Gosnell, he wondered if she could also do one of him and Julian from a photograph. He wanted to give him a father and son portrait for his birthday, according to Fred Seaman.
September 1980
PLAYBOY: "Your son, Julian, from your first marriage must be in his teens. Have you seen him over the years?" LENNON: "Well, Cyn got possession, or whatever you call it. I got rights to see him on his holidays and all that business, and at least there's an open line still going. It's not the best relationship between father and son, but it is there. He's 17 now. Julian and I will have a relationship in the future. Over the years, he's been able to see through the Beatle image and to see through the image that his mother will have given him, subconsciously or consciously. He's interested in girls and autobikes now. I'm just sort of a figure in the sky, but he's obliged to communicate with me, even when he probably doesn't want to." PLAYBOY: "You're being very honest about your feelings toward him to the point of saying that Sean is your first child. Are you concerned about hurting him?" LENNON: "I'm not going to lie to Julian. Ninety percent of the people on this planet, especially in the West, were born out of a bottle of whiskey on a Saturday night, and there was no intent to have children. So 90 percent of us... that includes everybody... were accidents. I don't know anybody who was a planned child. All of us were Saturday-night specials. Julian is in the majority, along with me and everybody else. Sean is a planned child, and therein lies the difference. I don't love Julian any less as a child. He's still my son, whether he came from a bottle of whiskey or because they didn't have pills in those days. He's here, he belongs to me and he always will."
Playboy: I was under the impression that you still weren't seeing Julian much. Lennon: Well, no, he's comin' here over shortly now. I see him whenever he get's off school. Playboy: Has it been hard for him to be John Lennon's kid? Lennon: Yeah, he has his own... Everybody has a cross to bear, and Julian has that cross, and he'll deal with it. He's a clever boy, and as he gets older we can communicate and he'll understand.
[I wasn't sure what upcoming visit John is referring to since I couldn't find one mentioned anywhere. However there is an article in the Daily Mirror from 8 October 1980 including interview passages with Cynthia that mentions Julian currently being in New York. So without any photographic evidence, he isn't in any of the birthday photos, or anecdotes about it, there still might be the possibility that there was a (pre-)birthday visit from Julian to John and Sean in 1980. Julian himself hasn't been completely consistent on when he last saw his Dad. He has said that his '79 birthday visit was their last meeting (which I think is most likely correct), but he also claimed that he was flying out regularly.]
"According to Cynthia, Julian, now 18, plays guitar better than his father. He has left school and is off to New York to stay with his famous dad." Link to the article
Tumblr media
In an interview with Jonathan Cott on 5 December John reflects more on the troubles of being a Beatle's son and on how mistakes in his decision for Julian's schooling changed his outlook on his plans for Sean. [Julian had been going to private school since at least 1973.]
"[...] because he can't possibly be an average child, being the son of famous parents. I tried that game with my son Julian, sending him to a comprehensive working-class school, mixing with the people, but the people spat and shit on him, because he was famous, as people are wont to do. So his mother had to finally turn around and tell me to piss off: 'I'm sending him to a private school, the kid is suffering here.' "
Cynthia writes that by the end of 1980 Julian felt a breakthrough in his and his father's relationship. John played Julian songs from his new album over the phone, asking his opinions. source
Julian himself reflects on his and his dad's relationship by the time of his death like this:
"I know that dad's presence will be around for a long time. He was always joking, always sounded happy, which made me think more of him as a friend than a dad. My earliest memory of my father was when I was about three and he sang happy birthday to me. We were living at Weybridge, Surrey, and dad threw a birthday party for me and brought in a long cake shaped like a train and festooned with candles." Sunday Mirror, 5 April 1981
As early as 1982 negative feelings would influence Julian's memory, saying he didn't get to see his father for five years, that he only heard on Birthdays and Christmas from him or that after the first US visit it was again years before he got to go another time, when it was merely months.
"The Beatles sang 'All You Need Is Love' - and that is all I wanted from Dad. It is difficult to explain why I should feel so strongly, when we shared so little. Never once in all the years he lived in America did he even think about coming to see me. Apart from rare visits, I lived from birthdays to Christmas just to hear from him." Julian, 1982
[Those false memories/presentations may have been the result of his beginning break from Yoko around that time and the conflicts about money, or maybe his memories just adapted to the way it was talked about in his family.]
"It was more of one man to another than the usual father and son relationship, because he had been away from me a lot, and he said he realized that. I was just getting through to him and growing up myself and growing out of the silly giggling I did as a young teenager that really annoyed him, when Dad was killed." Julian quoted in Ray Coleman's John bio, pp.620
"Dad was such an influence in my life, it must have been hard on Mum. She'd do her best with presents at birthdays and Christmas, but I always waited for that special present that was bigger than anything else - from him. Yet he never sent anything spontaneously. He'd phone up and ask what I wanted, and it would arrive. I don't think he was trying to buy me in any way. It was just a chance for him to do something for me. He knew I wanted to be a musician and kept telling me to take a long time to get it right. He removed a lot of the stress I suppose other kids might feel. I didn't do very well at school. I don't think I'm dense, but I suppose I'm a bit lazy. There's only one thing I want - to know for sure that Dad loved me as much as I loved him. Or maybe to have him back." Julian, 1982

Kelly Severide- I’m Here To Stay Pt2
Tumblr media
Months later YN spent most of her time at the firehouse and at Mollys. So much so that she got a job at the firehouse doing almost reception type of work, and Herrmann even asked if she could bookkeep at Mollys. Her and Kelly have been getting closer and closer, they have been on a date and shared a kiss, but they haven't made anything official between them. The whole firehouse loves YN. They saw her as part of their family and since YN had no family in Chicago Herrmann took it upon himself to treat her as if she was his daughter. However things were all about to change when YNs ex boyfriend came into the picture.....
I walk into the firehouse having not slept the night before. My ex keeps messaging me, even though I'm ignoring him. I've even blocked him twice and he just finds a new way to message me.
On top of all of that today I feel faint and rather sick. I feel like I'm in a constant state of anxiety
"Morning" I weakly smile greeting everyone who arrived before me
"You ok YN?" Gabby asks frowning
"Yeah just super tired today. Didn't sleep well last night"
"You sure? You look kinda pale"
"I'm fine Gabby don't worry" I walk passed her and to the kitchen area to grab a bottle of water. My phone buzzes once again sending even more anxiety through me, this time it's a phone call
"You not going to answer that?" I turn around and see Kelly walking over to me with a smile
"No it's not important" before Kelly can reply the alarm sounds telling everyone to head out
"I'll see you in a bit" Kelly says walking out of the firehouse. I let out a breath and look at my phone full of texts and miss calls off my ex. Feeling super sick and tired I head into Kelly's office and get into his bed, leaving my phone on a side table.
I wake up to my phone buzzing again, I'm so close to throwing it out of the window. I get up and head back into the main area of the firehouse where I see everyone eating
"Hey your looking a little better. Go grab yourself some food" Gabby smiles
"Im not hungry"
"YN you need to eat" Kelly says worriedly
"I feel a little sick today so I'm good"
"YN..."
"Kelly. Seriously I'm fine" I try to give him a small smile. I sit next to Gabby who ends up giving me a sandwich
"Eat" she says. Sighing I take the sandwich and nibble at it. Conversations start flowing when I feel a nudge "everything ok?"
"Im..."
"Don't say your fine. What's going on?"
"Can we talk privately?"
"Course. Hey guys I'm going to take YN to the ambo, just take her vitals" Gabby announces
"You said everything was fine" Kelly says standing up
"It is"
"I just want to check her over, said she feels sick and she's tired today. Just want to be sure"
"Well let's go then" I give Gabby a look
"No you stay and eat. If she isn't good I'll let you take her home, but you better eat up before Otis ends up eating your food" Kelly frowns sitting back down and I follow Gabby to the ambo. I sit down on the bed and she sits next to me "what's going on?"
"My ex has been phoning me and texting me" I quietly say
"As in stalker, creepy ex?" I give Gabby a nod "shit. Ok and I assume Kelly doesn't know?"
"Why should he need to know?"
"Come on YN. We're not blind. You and Kelly are obviously a think"
"No. We never officially made us a thing"
"But your going on dates. You kissed. Your always over at each others house. Don't kid yourself, but you need to tell him, he's worried about you"
"I know. Ok. I'll tell him tonight"
That evening we watch TV and order chines, even though I just seem to be picking at it. I excuse myself and go to the bathroom, but when I return Kelly is fuming, somethings happened
"Kel?"
"So your not gonna tell me?" shit he knows
"I was going to tell you..."
"Bullshit"
"I was Kel I spoke to Gabby and..."
"Gabby knows!" he shouts. I start to shake a little "so you've been playing me and Gabby knows"
"Playing you? What are you...?"
"Don't act dumb. You've just admitted that you've been cheating on me"
"Cheating? What no? I mean we're not even together are we?"
"Fuck YN of course we were" this shocks me
"Were?"
"I don't give cheaters a second chance" my eyes start to tear
"I haven't, it's not..." I splutter
"Save it YN"
"But Kelly I haven't..." before I can finish my sentence Kelly walks out of my place and leaves, probably heading to Mollys.

Back when I was in school, I thought it'd be great fun to create an urban legend or local cryptid. I got some friends together, managed up some costumes, snuck out at night, wandered around looking creepy. And it was; great fun, that is. Sure we were all tired the next day whenever we did that, had weird scrapes and bruises from stumbling around in the dark, and at most we ever heard someone mention that they thought they saw "an animal" out where we were lurking; but we were out with friends, doing something we probably weren't supposed to do, we were young, it was wonderful.
We grew up, as tends to happen. We found more interesting things to do late at night. A bunch of us moved away, including myself. Gradually, we mostly lost touch with each other. I mean I could probably still contact all of them if I really needed to, it would just be awkward. I never mentioned those "adventures" to anyone, because as I got older, it just seemed more and more embarrassing, plus -- as I came to realize -- INCREDIBLY insensitive to the creature community. For the last few years, I've been trying to forget all about it.
Until recently. I was chatting with my mother on the phone, and she mentioned that in the past few weeks, there have been Sightings in the area. She'd never shared it before now, because it was just some minor local gossip, except she'd seen it herself the day before; just a glimpse, but what she described, it matched how we'd dressed up, how we'd moved, even the places we'd done "appearances" in.
My first rational thought was that maybe she'd known the whole time -- as a kid, you're a lot worse at being sneaky than you think you are -- and this was just a very time-delayed prank on me. But I looked into it, and it's not just her telling this to me; I won't bore you with the details, but if this is her prank on me, it's better planned and coordinated than most military operations.
There's three explanations I can think of. The first is that one of my friends has decided to start it up again, after all these years, for whatever reason; or they'd shared it with someone who decided to do the same. On the face of it, this would be easy to check, but that's not taking into account the crippling awkwardness that doing so would entail, plus I know for a fact that the person who'd be my best suspect for doing this, doesn't live within easy travel of the place any more. There's other reasons that make this option seem unlikely to me, but they involve personal details I'm not going to share.
The other possible explanations I can think of, are more up your alley. That either somehow a bunch of dumb kids managed to close-enough replicate what an actual being, that actually exists, is like, and now one of them is there, maybe as a coincidence, or maybe to find the "other one" (which never actually existed, because it was just us). Or that somehow, that same bunch of dumb kids managed to accidentally CREATE a being. To put it in the silliest possible way that my brain keeps repeating on endless loop, accidental catfishing or accidental parenthood.
Should I look into this further? Do I need to swallow the awkwardness and talk to the others? Come clean in public with what we'd done? (I don't think any of it was technically illegal, plus we were children at the time, but it would still be even more awkward than my current benchmark for 'extremely awkward'.) Is it none of my business? Should I start actively hiding any involvement? I go back there about once a year, to visit my parents, and it's a few months still before I'd be expected, so I have time, but I'd need to have a plan in place first.
First of all, reader, I'm glad to hear you have since come to understand how incredibly inappropriate and insensitive your actions were when you were a teenager. I hope young sapios today are a little better educated on the matter of treating liminal cultures and identities with respect, but I confess, it is not a particularly robust hope.
I hear your concerns that you and your friends may have participated in some kind of accidental manifestation. I think I can put those fears to bed. Bringing forth an entity through the power of imagination alone is an astonishingly difficult feat, and one which requires a great deal of concentration, dedication and, frankly, natural magical talent. It would be unusual to the point of near impossibility for a group of teenage pranksters to stumble their way through such a working without knowing it, and even more unlikely that the effects of that working should remain hidden for so long.
I think it equally unlikely that you somehow happened upon an accurate representation of an existing, but as yet unknown, genus. The creature community is vast and varied, and the chances of you managing to cobble together anything like an accurate representation of a genus you've never seen before seems highly unlikely.
However, there is always the possibility of… let us call it “suggestion”. When you think back to that period, is there anything you can remember that motivated you to design the costume as you did? If you can trace your inspiration directly to, say, a particular book or a certain film, then we can set this aside as a possibility.
But if at any point you felt your decisions were driven by something less tangible – if it felt as if “inspiration” had struck, and you moved by shared instinct, all seeming to strive for the same end without communicating that end to one another – then we might start to consider the possibility of external influence.
This could also explain why these sightings have started again. Rather than being a living creature suddenly coming out of hiding, this sudden apparition seems more likely to be another group of young sapios, subject to the same external influence as you and your friends were all those years ago, compelled to don the same costumes and cavort in the same places.
Quite why anyone or anything would be exerting psychic/phasmic influence to this end, I can't guess. There doesn't seem to be any harm in it, apart from inducing sapio teens into insensitive behaviour – and let's be honest, it's even odds they would have done that anyway. And in any case, I think this explanation falls firmly in the “none of your business” side of things.
I say, draw a line under the affair, and move on. Someone in your town may be playing silly buggers, but as an erstwhile silly bugger yourself, I'm sure you can allow them their bit of fun.

My Petty on-going war with a "guest"
My Petty on-going war with a guest/non-paying customer continues! So a while back I posted part one of the story, here's the link. https://www.tumblr.com/fuck-customers/696750060212535297/would-it-be-too-petty?source=share If you don't feel like clicking, here's a quick summary. I asked you all if it would be too Petty if I locked up a product a rude non-paying guest comes in to scan into an app. Woman treats all staff like garbage and her visits count against us when our transactions versus guests who walk in is calculated potentially affecting our hourly budget.  A number of times we've been concerned about her stealing, especially when staff is helping a customer towards the back of the store. We'll just hear the door open, no acknowledgement of our greeting, product shuffling around, and boom shes out the door before anyone and approach her.
The response to part one was unanimous, be Petty! and let me tell you friends, I locked that shit up and I felt amazing when this woman came in for the very first time and didn't know what to do. I heard her tapping on the lock box but since she refused speaking to staff she was left in a bind (I caught her by surprise outside the door once at opening, she can speak and theres no language barrier). I watched her wander around the store for a minute before exiting. Meanwhile the guests I was ringing up got great service and save lots of money.
Weeks later she showed up again, she figured out that she was able to scan the barcode on the price tags and get what she wanted that way. Ok.  The thing is I am not one to be outdone and I was winning this Petty War. I have a fine tip pen and drafting tools at home so I filled in those price tags very subtly.  I guess I decided I wanted to waste her time, I know it would have been much simpler to just blatantly black out the barcodes with a sharpie in an obvious a f-u move. We don't scan the barcodes for any store operation reasons so no harm there.
Unfortunately the very first time she came in after I had done this I was in the restroom so I had to get the story secondhand from a trainee who describe this guest as "aggressively ignoring her." The woman spent a couple of minutes trying to scan the barcodes, she even had two phones on hand! but had no luck. Shocker. After a couple of months I took the items out of the lock box, satisfied that I had won the war in pettiness. That was months ago.
But then this past weekend guess who came in? Her daughter and I had a great conversation while mom aggressively ignored me. It was fine! I debated telling her flat out that next time she came in those items were going to be locked up again but I decided against it, let her waste her time if she has so much that she's driving around from business to business scanning product in and never buying anything (also women's holding a phone I don't want to get recorded).
Before the end of the day I locked them up again. And I waited, hoping that she would come in when I was working & I wasn't disappointed! But I was at the very back end of the store when she did arrive. So I saw her doing a "are you kidding me gesture?" with her arms when she saw that it was locked up again. She spent a couple minutes trying to scan the bar codes and I thought she had no luck... but then she comes in the very next day so this time I watch her closely. There was one bar code I may not have tampered with enough, or maybe she thought maybe things would go back to normal right away.  Anyhow, I say fuck it, I grabbed my white out stick run it through every barcode, I white out the UPC number and strategically placed some white out through the items name so that can't be scanned. Until next time lady! Please know the bar is so low all you had to do was not be rude and I wouldn't have given a shit!!!

Twice’s 10th member being babied by 3mix
A/N: I got two similar asks on Tumblr and I put them together, hope the anons like it! :)
The requests: could you do a members (mainly Jihyo) prank the maknae by treating her like a small child/baby..ik they baby her as is but you could make the maknae all annoyed and stuff.
i love ur works! can you do more mom!3mix with 10th member? it's so cute how they baby her 😭
PS: Tysm for everyone that reads what I write, I hope I can bring a smile to your faces every time I post! I'd like to thank whoever sent me this idea 'cause I loved to write it <3
__________________________________________________________
It is no secret to ONCE and TWICE themselves that the unnies are overprotective of their maknae. Especially, 3mix, also known as the mom line (lol). However, they woke up with that vibe that you get when you wanna annoy your sibling, in that case, Y/N. Even if the youngest is always enjoying the feeling of being pampered, her sisters know when they get to the line and today, they wanna cross it. The prank is meant to last the whole day, Nayeon, Jeongyeon and Jihyo got that idea from a ONCE that suggested it on a Vlive (Still can't get over the end of Vlives) they did coming back from a stage on their moms + maknae car. While you could be thinking that Y/N saw the comment, she wouldn't be able to, the unnies were on the front and she was on the last seat roll of the car laying down sleeping like the baby she is. And this cuteness always results in a thousand photos taken, some of them posted on her birthday cause, why not? The worst ones that become memes are usually provided by the maknae line and how could Y/N be mad when she does the same? It's only fair. Anyways-
The youngest is the last to get up this morning and that's already rare but amazing for 3mix since they had time to prepare everything for the prank.
 Y/N - Morning unnies *yawns*
Jihyo - Hey baby, how are you doing?
Y/N - I'm okay, where are the other unnies?
Nayeon - They went out, there's only the four of us now, why? Are we not enough? *pouts*
Jeongyeon - Yeah cutie, do you love them more than us?
Y/N - What?? Of course not unnies, why are you like that? *frowns*
Nayeon - Isn't she adorable Jeongyeon? Look at that frown! She looks like a baby.
Y/N - I'm not a baby! You know that unnie :/
Jihyo - Awnnn, come here sweetie. Don't pout.
Y/N - I'm not pouting :(
Jeongyeon - Saying you're not pouting while doing so isn't gonna help your case.
Y/N - What's with you guys today?
Jihyo - Nothing, come eat what we made kid.
Nayeon - Yeah!! It's really good, I mean- I helped, obviously it's delicious.
Y/N - Okay, let's sit down. Can we watch TV while eating? *puppy eyes*
Jeongyeon - You know I can't with those eyes, Jihyo you answer!
Jihyo - Can't even deny something she asks *rolls eyes*
Nayeon - You try then. It's horrible to say no to her
Meanwhile, Y/N can be seen still doing the kicked puppy look so her unnies take pity on her and she finally watches TV while eating for the first time in months. It's funny for her to think how she did this at home all the time before coming to Korea but in the dorms, she wasn't allowed by 3mix and that made her look spoiled, but she wasn't. (maybe just a little but she'll never admit it).
After years (for Y/N ofc) they finally let her go to the sofa and they followed with a motherly smile on their faces as they noticed the skip on her steps. When they got there they remembered the prank and got to work.
Jeongyeon - Come cuddle honey
Y/N - Don't wanna...
Nayeon - Come here then...
Y/N - Nooo, you're being to clingy today unnies
Jihyo - But you're our child, lay here with mama
Y/N - Fineeee
Y/N goes to the other side of the sofa near the unnies and lands right in the middle, when she sits there and believes they find it enough she relaxes. But she let her guard down and Jihyo pulls her to her chest. The maknae layed there with an "oof-" and whined for the loss of her favourite moment on the TV show, Nayeon only cooed and stroked her hair. The others making sure she gets lots of cuddles. But, with time the youngest tried to get away and the unnies wouldn't let her, only laughing and telling her that a baby shouldn't be alone. This only made her more annoyed! With a huff, she goes out of the room pouting and complaining that the 3mix unnies are too much. (I'd love to be babied by 3mix but you do you girl, IG)
Her sisters felt bad and wrapped up the prank before the day finished, even if it was near the end 'cause they only wanted to annoy her a little but they could hear how frustrated she got with them. Opening the SMC room they found her sitting with her cell phone in hand, apparently texting on K-talk.
Jeongyeon - Kid... You know we love you
Y/N - I know, but why did you treat me like a baby all day? I'm a grown woman unnies
Nayeon - It was a prank pabo, we get that you want to be respected as who you are right now and to be seen as the mature girl we know you are.
Jihyo - Yeah, we understand you cutie pie, but we'll always see you as the girl that we met when you we're only trainees, even if you are 70 years old.
Y/N - Even then? Lol but you're gonna be grandmas!
Nayeon - YAH! You too, shut up.
Y/N - Sorry unnie... But I just overreacted a little, the haters are being mean again and they're talking about how childish I am with you guys *frowns*
Jihyo - WHAT? And you we're gonna talk to us when? This is not okay babe
Nayeon - We're gonna talk with JYP again and this time he must do something with these haters
Jeongyeon - Nobody messes with our child and gets away with it, only us.
Jihyo - That for sure. Anyway- besides that are you okay princess?
Y/N - Yes mamas, calm down. I'm fine now that you guys are here with me. And may I admit, I love when you guys pamper me, it makes me feel loved and warm inside (I wish)
Nayeon - Awnnn, we love you our dear maknae
Jihyo - Don't ever forget to tell us something like that, we are here for you and we love you our dear maknae
Jeongyeon -You are special to us and will always have a place in our heart and mind. We love you our dear maknae
A/N: I apologise for any errors, English is not my first language. Pls, let me know if there's something wrong, ty for reading <3

So i have this lame drabble kinda idea for nodus tollens. As u have mentioned before that jimin's mom n brother treat rei as their own daughter n sister respectively so imagine one day jimins brother was hugging rei Or kissing her forehead (uk brotherly affection) n jimin saw these n literally went ballistic n started punching his own brother then jimins family would see what n Douchebag their son is😂
opus nodus tollens, drabble number 1 / tatemae series 建前:
pairing: choreographer!park jimin x trophy!wife reader extra character(s): min shiza (liberosis) genre: fluff, smut, angst, marriage!au, age-gap!au (9 years). words: 1.863 warnings: jealousy, over possessive!pjm, unhealthy behaviour, toxic relationships, heated argument, manipulative behaviour, smexy times, missionary position, unprotected sex, mentions of orgasm (m). original one-shot: nodus tollens part of: tatemae; 建前 — a bts series a/n: i don't think i will be adding the punching thingy, i get that jimin is supposed to be this obsessive guy but that level of obsession that he punches his own brother would take away from his character. i hope you understand and enjoy the drabble!
Tumblr media
"i know what you want."
"what do you mean?"
"i know you want her like you have always wanted all my toys back when we were kids."
jimin had pulled aside his younger brother to the latter's room one fine evening.
︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶༉‧₊˚.
it has been six days since jimin and you flew down to busan to visit jimin's parents. they had been asking you both to come over ever since the wedding. back then, you had been busy with finishing college and jimin has always been one of the in-demand choreographers of the industry, so naturally there was no time to make the trip happen.
last month when you got laid off from the min-specter firm, it hit you badly. it had shaken you up in the worst way possible; you had stopped eating, you stopped talking to jimin, you did not reply to any of your ex-upperclassman-turned-ex-boss'-wife shiza's messages, you had not even stepped out of the house for weeks on end. most of the days, you did not even bother leaving the bed. you would be wearing the same house clothes and be slumped on the bed or at most, at the floor with your back supported by the bed. you still cannot believe that you were fired from your job; the job you had worked your ass off for. the internships, the training, the late-night studying — all of it turned to dust and swept away. and shiza? she was supposed to be like your older sister, she should have changed your boss' mind but all you get are empty apologies and how she is sad for you. nothing seemed to cheer you up and your husband was at his wit's end on exploring new to get you to even smile at him.
one day when he came back from work, he was surprised to see your ex-upperclassman, shiza. she was standing near the chair in the dining hall where you were sat. you looked like you had been crying.
"um, what's this? doll, is everything okay?"
you gave a curt nod, not meeting his eyes.
jimin turned to shiza, "mrs min i think it's best you lea-"
you cut him off, "no. she's okay."
jimin sighed, so she gets an okay but all he gets are nods and hums? he just wants his rei of sunshine (pun intended) back.
"jimin-ssi, if it's possible maybe you should take a trip with y/n, she needs some fresh air."
"ahha, only if this madam wants to go anywhere."
biting the inside of your cheeks, you mumbled, "i want to go out."
jimin's eyes flickered. wait so when he suggested going out for a vacation, you threw pillows at his face while proceeding to bury your face in the mattress and bellowing out noises like a dying whale but shiza eonnie mentions going on a trip once and you want to go now? what is this sorcery? jimin needs to learn this ninja technique.
a while later, shiza left when a black luxury car (jimin guesses it was a vintage rolls royce wraith) came around to pick her up.
your husband started collecting the dirty dishes and putting them in the sink when he heard your feeble voice.
"take me away before i lose myself," you mentioned, your eyes trained pointlessly at the floor while your arms came to wrap around themselves in a hug.
jimin almost dropped the porcelain plate to make his way to you, dropping to his knees as his hands brought down your hands in his, to rest on your lap.
"doll, i will take you anywhere you want. i just want you back as you were."
you sniffled down your tears and leaned over to hug him tightly, which your husband happily reciprocated.
︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶༉‧₊˚.
it was like you were born anew when jimin brought you to his childhood home. you have never known a family and now to have a father, a mother and a brother to call your own — it truly felt like a new life. every day you woke up, you got to have a mother's handmade breakfast made with love, you helped her out with the household chores, while in the evening the neighbourhood aunties would invite you over for cheesecake and coffee while they doted on you, mentioning how their jiminie got lucky to have you in his life.
it felt nice to be wanted, to be included in the mundane things in life and the days passed by normally, they didn't feel too long nor too short. it was all perfect. jiwon, jimin's younger brother would even take you on his motorcycle to mr park's cafe where mr park would proudly introduce you to his regular customers as his 'lawyer daughter-in-law'.
at first it started when mrs park forced you to go out and see the town around but then every evening you would leave with jiwon on his motorcycle while he showed you around. likewise, at first jimin did not much think about it, he usually was in charge of looking after the family business when he was home, so accounting took most of his time. plus, he was happy that you were exploring the places where he once grew up. it made him feel even closer to you when at night you would tell him about the places you saw, the sparkle in your eyes. you were just too adorable for his heart to take.
︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶༉‧₊˚.
"don't make a noise," jimin whispered near your ear before putting his hand over your mouth, stilling his lower body to a lull before hitting it home in an intense thrust, his pelvic area slapping against your cunny. the bedpost hit the wall with a thud while a groan died down in your throat.
jimin and jiwon's rooms are adjacent to each other and obviously, like two responsible adults, neither of you would ever want for the poor thing to have to hear anything inappropriate.
"fuuuck," you sighed against his palm while jimin continued his thrusts — bringing you over the edge while his length rummaged through your gummy walls, feeling every ridge, every bump in the hot cavern.
one particular hard thrust had you moaning loudly, a muffled one owing to jimin's hand but still the muffled noise was out in the air.
jimin brought his movements to a halt, "i don't think he heard it," he whispered, slowly moving his hips in a circular motion.
"i think he's asleep," you whispered back, the sentence broken in two parts owing to his slow actions. you winced at the leisurely pace.
"i can hear you jerks. loud and clear." jiwon's booming voice came through the walls.
jimin was really close to his release, he has been holding back all this time to not cause a commotion, "mm, might as well," his hips took up pace, creating a symphony of sinful noises.
you tried to stop him, your eyes going wide at the sudden pace. you were both in a state of pleasure and fear because your brother-in-law just said that he could already hear you guys even when you were whispering.
"he can hear us!" you reminded jimin, biting your lip hard to not let out moans, your legs closing around his waist.
his dominant hand got a hold of the headpost, wrapping around the wood to anchor himself for the thrusts as they grew sloppy; indicating his oncoming orgasm, "he already has."
"y'all are fucking disgusting! i am going to put bleach in my ears," jiwon yelled again before you both heard his bedroom door opening and closing, followed by footsteps hurrying downstairs.
"forget him, look at me," jimin's free hand came to hold your gaze at him, the edge of his palm supporting your chin while his fingers grazed your cheek. his thrusts slowed down again as he angled his hips to reach deeper angles.
︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶༉‧₊˚.
later the next day, you absolutely avoided jiwon, you were too embarrassed to even look in his direction.
in the evening while jimin and you were sat in the living room watching tv, jiwon walked over, "ahem, if you guys are not busy copulating like bunnies, do you want to go to our old high school? there is an annual sports festival going on," he offered. mind you, he was loving this because he gets to tease you at every sentence, every accidental eye contact.
you winced at the first sentence, "stop mentioning it. we are sorry."
jimin was sat beside you looking over some papers his father had just handed him, "speak for yourself, i am not sorry."
"of course," jiwon shook his head before turning to you, "for your information, you are so bad at trying to suppress any sound."
jimin raised an eyebrow at that, since when did you two become so close to talk about sex (of all topics) so openly. he understands that you two are closer in age, jiwon is a year older and doing his masters but it did not sound as innocent to him, "hey, be respectful."
"let's go," ignoring the teasing, you stood up, "i would love to see where this one used to go to school," you touched jimin's hair, giving it a slight ruffle.
he caught your hand and placed a kiss on it, "be safe and be back before 8, the streets get empty. i don't know what takes you both so long every night."
"yes yes, don't worry," jiwon exhaled casually before leaving with you.
︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶༉‧₊˚.
by the time jiwon and you came back, jiwon had his arm wrapped around you, hanging by your shoulder as you two laughed at some joke.
after dinner when mrs park took you away to show you old pictures, jimin pulled jiwon to the side.
︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶༉‧₊˚.
"whoa whoa, wait a second. di-did did you just compare your wife to toys?" jiwon's eyes went wide.
"well of course she is not a toy, that's the point i am trying to make. she is my wife."
"you just compared her to a toy! always knew you needed therapy."
"listen just keep your hands off her, i don't like this newfound intimacy between you two," jimin's hand was on jiwon's shoulder, his grip tightening with every word.
"are you joking right now? you are joking right? she's like my fucking sister. i have always wanted a sister because you are such an asshole and now i finally have someone whom i can call a sister so of course you have to ruin it."
jimin went quiet, maybe he took it all wrong. suddenly he was reminded that this was his brother, his blood. he knows his little brother, he believes in the values his parents taught them.
"hey, look it's you from when you were in your nappies," you had walked in jiwon's room looking for him. a photo album in your hand, you walked to the duo.
jiwon gave you a small smile as he turned his gaze to what you were pointing at.
jimin let a sigh, maybe his family is complete finally and there is nothing to worry about as he found himself smiling at you two.
︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶︶༉‧₊˚.
feedback is deeply appreciated. ✨

a least to most likely list of which of the robins would hide injuries
dick, is surprisingly the least likely to hide injuries. he got told sence he was able to walk and do stunts that improperly cared for injuries could not only harm him but other performers and thats stuck with him. add in being the leader of the teen titans and trying to set a good example for them, hes fully open with his injuries when hes hurt.
--dick has a spread sheet of injury and when he got them, he thinks it funny
tim is the second least likely to hide injuries, now this is only because in the first year or two of being robin haveing a infection or improperly cared for wound would take him out of the field and away from doing damage control with bruce. and now its just a habit too keep track of his injuries
---tim would hid older injuries that wouldn't effects his field capabilities (spleen spleen spleen) but not anything recent or pressing
up next is duke! duke as the leader of the we are robins thing has had to deal with idiots under his command hideing injuries and he refuses to add that stress onto bruce and alfred. he knows how annoying and worrying it is to have to wonder if your people are actually field ready or lieing too you.
--he would only hid injuries if they came from civilian life or for a stupid thing like triping off a roof or swinging into a wall, but like tim he wouldnt if it was something big or would affect his capabilities
steph is next up, were edgeing into would definitely hide shit, steph does not see bruce as a parent and barely sees him as a boss. shes a latch key kid with a terrible dad and a try her best but not get mom, no way in hell would she come out with injuries outload but she would let alfred treat her if it came up. prefers to go to Leslie cause she trusts her more, and as such bruce usually only hears about her injuries after the fact.
---steph fully mocks bruce that if he was the worlds greatest detective he would know when shes hurt, goes to Leslie or alfred if its really bad
this was a toss up, but damian is next, assassins dont really lend them selves to being good people to tell that your injured, even the ones ment to serve you. damian is basically allergic to telling anyone anything is actually wrong with him ever, unless its him and bruce one of one. bruce is essentially the only person he trusts enough to admit hes injured.
--getting damian to admit hes injured is like trying to give a feral cat a bath, no one likes doing it but its necessary sometimes
jason!! second to last on the list, jason would actually fully chew off his own leg then tell the bats hes injured ever. not only because he doesn't trust 90% of them not to use it to fuck him over, but also because bruce will become simultaneously the most helicopter parent and the emotional brick wall the second he knows Jason's hurt, its honestly worse then being shot to see him try and ground jason like hes still a child, while also being full emotional brick wall batman mode
--jason has pushed tim down the bottomless pit in the cave before just so he could bolt before bruce could quarantine him in the cave cause he got hurt, jason would fully fist fight his way out of the batfam then ever admit hes hurt
and to round it off cass! cass will slink away to hide and lick her wound and you would never know shes hurt unless she lets you. raised as a weapon i dont think David cain was the kinda person to treat an injury with anything other then disappointment, and cass still sees her own injury as failures in her training. shes fully capable of doing most of her own medical care and useing it to her advantage in avoiding telling anyone her injuries.
--cass broke her arm once and as soon as it was put in a cast no one saw her tell it was fully healed. not even bruce is sure where she was or what she was doing during those months

Angst angst angst
X
(name) was a simple child, he likes sweets and cool things and his light up sneakers.
That's all.
So when his dad's girlfriend tried to win his affection with fancy things the boy was not interested at all, who gets a two year old a Nintendo switch??
(Name) stared at the console confused before promptly dropping it on the table and wandering off, gone to go find something cool.
(Name) wasn't pleased with his dad's girlfriend, she often took up a lot of his time to the point the nanny had to read the little boy a bed time story and not his papa.
So it was no surprise when Ran came home to (name) dumping her purse into the toilet and refusing to apologize and not talking to his father at all.
Ran didn't know what to do, this was completely out of left field for the toddler refused to talk to him, the boy refusing to eat with them and everything.
(Girlfriends name) demanded a lot of Ran's free time, often taking her to dinner and missing the designated play time he set with his son, the boy was very upset when he didn't go to take him to the park that was in their gated community.
Rindō sighed as he walked to his brothers apartment, the eldest Haitani was out with his girlfriend once again and asked Rindō to check in on (name) and the pain be felt when he saw his nephew look so hopeful then so crestfallen when he realized it wasn't his dad oh god it hurt.
"No papa?"
"(Name), when was the last time your papa hung out with you?" Rindō asked genuinely as he crouched before his dad "he don't hang with me no more, stupid (girlfriend) is more special" little tears welled up at his eyes, the boy clearly just believing his dad didn't want him anymore because the man clearly was prioritizing his new girlfriend over his own kid.
"Papa don' wan me no more" (name) said simply as he played with his toys and Rindō paused at that "why do you think that?"
"He don' read me bed time story, he no have bath time with me and we don go to park anymore!" (Name) cried out to his uncle who was pissed at his brother, this was the same shit their dad did to them and now being done to poor (name).
"You wanna hang out with uncle Rindō today?"
"Yeah?"
"Yeah bud, let's go"
Rindō was always awkward with kids but him and (name) had a special bond, the man taking the little Haitani to go get ice cream and get a new toy, the boy was very pleased with (toy) as they spent all day hanging out, even bringing little (name) around to the office.
Most of Bonten were parents and knew how to act with a kid, Koko and Kakucho sneaking the little boy a few treats and Mikey listening as the boy explained the toy he got, giving Rindō time to chat with Koko and Kakucho "isn't it Ran and (name)s park day? Why is he with you?"
"Rans with his girlfriend" Rindō said simply and the men glanced at the poor boy who was so attention starved from the past few months of his dad constantly choosing a girlfriend over his kid that he was seeking it from mikey of all people!
"He was practically crying, the nanny tried her best but she's not his dad"
"(Girlfriend) apparently bought him a switch and when the ya know the toddler didn't know what to do with it she basically ignored him and took over Ran's free time"
Mikey helped (name) take the toy out of the box, sitting cross legged on the floor, Sanzu beside (name) having joined as the adults helped the boy put it together.
Ran forgot something in his office, leaving (girlfriend) in the car as he went up.
He was not expecting to see his co-workers and brother doting and hanging out with (name), the little boy much happier than how he's been with Ran lately.
"What's all this?" Ran asked curiously and like that (name)s mood shifted from a happy boy to a quiet boy.
He was uncomfortable with his dad's presence now.
And everyone took notice to that.
"(Name)? Where did you get the toy bud?" Ran asked kindly, trying to make small talk with his son but the boy just locked up, turning away from his dad completely who in turn looked a little frustrated with his son.
Ran hadn't figured out why (name) was so unresponsive with him yet.
"(Name) I asked you a question" Ran said, the room getting tense and (name) continued to ignore him "hey Ran, isn't today park day?" Sanzu asked with a snarky tone, immediately taking the toddlers side who was shifted into Mikey's lap, the blond talking softly with the boy who was clearly upset.
"I was busy today"
"To busy for your kid?"
"He with (girlfriend), he always with her" (name) finally chimed in, now looking at his dad with his mother's eyes "papa don' wan me no more"
"He wan' stupid (girlfriend)"
Ran didn't know what to do with his sons words "(name), why do you think I don't want you"
(Name) shut down again and turned away from his dad, the boy was frustrated his dad hadn't realized and the toddler vocabulary wasn't broad enough to articulate what was the problem fully as he glanced to his uncle.
"Ran, when was the last time you hung out with (name)"
"Last--"
"Without (girlfriend)"
That made Ran think, when was the last time?
"When did you take (name) to the park and actually spent time with him and showed you care?"
Ran realized and connected the dots and God damn he felt terrible about it, looking at his son who at two believed his dad didn't want him anymore.
And Ran realized that he did replace (name) in a way.
"Oh... Oh bud I'm so sorry"
"Stupid papa, go play with (girlfriend)"
Ran realized this was gonna take more than an apology as he texted his driver to bring (girlfriend) to her apartment and walked towards his son "bud, let's go to the park yeah?"
"Wen to park with unkol Rin..."
(Name) was not gonna let this be easy for ran, not at all.
"What can I do to make this up to you"
"Stop being ugly" (name) grumbled out, clearly not wanting to be near his dad "how about we hang out, just you and me"
"No (girlfriend)?"
"No (girlfriend)"
(Name) eventually let his dad lift him up, the boy pulling away when Ran tried to kiss his forehead and after collecting his toy the two left.
(Name) was quiet as another car pulled up for them, buckling (name) into his car seat Ran tried to make small talk with his boy who just grunted at him.
Ran took him anywhere he wanted, the boy over the day slowly let his guard down but still thought Ran didn't want him, the boy was kind of traumatized from his dad's neglect and constantly glanced around to see if the dreaded girlfriend would just show up and (name) would be all alone again.
"(Name) I'm so sorry I ignored you like that, I want you, you're always my top priority" Ran said softly as they got (name)s favorite meal for dinner, the boy quietly eating "no bed time stowy..."
Bedtime time stories were sacred for (name), knowing no matter how little he sees his dad he knew he would always get a bed time story from him even if it was through the phone.
"I'm so sorry bud, I promise I won't ever do it again ok?"
(Name) burst into tears, the boys bottled emotions too much for his tiny body as he cried and heaved uncontrollably and ran just held him close, hating himself at the fact that he managed to push his sweet boy to this point.
(Mother's name) would be ashamed of him.

I saw this in my emails from Quora and honestly…I’m dead asf
Tumblr media
Ok, let’s unpack this:
Firstly, he looked down on her because she was a muggle while spying on her sister, with whom he was enchanted.
First part of the sentence I agree with but not in the way a snater would want me to. I could sit here and write an essay about WHY Severus would have a distaste for muggles but thats not the topic. Second part of this sentence is WILD…did you skim the book and not read it?
Here, let me fill you in:
"Lily, come on, we're leaving!" she said shrilly. Lily obeyed her sister at once, glaring at Snape as she left. He stood watching them as they marched through the playground gate, and Harry, the only one left to observe him, recognized Snape's bitter disappointment, and understood that Snape had been planning this moment for a while, and that it had all gone wrong...”
This ^ is the scene where he tells Lily that she’s a witch….context clues? He had been watching her and observing her do magic and planned on telling her that she was a witch, possibly to make a new friend. Had nothing to do with being “enchanted” (tf)
In this same scene, Harry describes Severus as looking “no more than nine or ten”…he was a fuckin KID…y’all have no shame. Has it ever crossed a snaters mind that poor, abused boy had no friends? Didn’t really know how to interact with people properly? Saw a witch his age and thought ‘FRIEND!” ? Nobody thought of that!?
Then decided to throw a branch on her because Petunia was eavesdropping their conversation.
…what?
"What is that you're wearing, anyway?" she said, pointing at Snape's chest. "Your mum's blouse?"
There was a crack. A branch over Petunia's head had fallen. Lily screamed. The branch caught Petunia on the shoulder, and she staggered backward and burst into tears.”
Yea. It was because she was eavesdropping. Sure, Jan. Let’s ignore and therefore defend making fun of poor people. Let’s ignore and therefore defend making fun of a little boy for “wearing his mother’s blouse” shall we? JKR would be proud.
And y’all act like he did it on purpose. He was a kid and we can’t honestly expect a kid to be able to control their magic fully!? But it’s Severus Snape and even him as a fucking CHILD couldn’t possibly do anything by accident, right? But let’s all go laugh at Harry releasing a boa constrictor on Dudley! Because that’s funny. Right?
It honestly confuses me when Snape haters bring up the branch incident because they’re always the same ones that fight tooth and nail to defend Harry’s ACCIDENT
Tumblr media
A few days/months later, he and Lily went through Petunias room to read her letter.
Diary entry: Day 193728 of this fandom treating Lily like she’s perfect and does no wrong. There’s no food, no water, and everyone has lost their mind. I don’t how long I can make it out here. Send help.
“Setting a terrible example”…So basically the thought process is that Snape said “I wanna go through your sisters room” and Lily said ok and just let him right in like an idiot. I can’t even be mad at this because it honestly confirmes my long running theory that Lily is naive and can’t think for herself to save her life. Thank you for that. I’m glad to see Snape haters agree.
Awful boy, that James Potter

Closing Wounds
Pairing : Shigaraki x Reader
Previous Part
Tumblr media
You were mindlessly staring at your empty fridge. You needed to do something about it tomorrow. You walked to your bedroom and stared at the ceiling. It had been more than a year since the incident. Since Tomura Shigaraki, a man that wasn't really your friend or even someone you knew killed two people in front of you. Since that day, you never saw him again. But you heard about him. Apparently, he wasn't just a homeless young man society wronged. He was a sadist. You heard from some people you treated that attacking and killing people was his nature. And you couldn't deny it. You saw it. You could still remember his mischievous smile. It had haunted every single one of your nights. You had been having nightmares ever since. Curiously, never once had you dreamed about him killing you. It was like he could never. But you knew it was possible. You just couldn't imagine him doing this to you.
You sighed as you went to lie down on your bed. You stopped your side job soon after the incident. People sometimes came by but you never opened the door. You stopped because it was too dangerous. You could have died that day. Instead, you had to clean up two people's ashes.
You suddenly heard a knock on your front door. You hadn't in a month. You sat up and looked through the peephole. You didn't recognize them. It was a young girl and a man. It felt like you had seen them somewhere but definitely not here. You rolled your eyes, ready to ignore them when you heard :
"Are you sure Tomura said it was here ?"
You froze. You haven't heard of him in a year. Never saw anyone who personally knew him. Until now, it seemed. You opened the door.
"Who are you ?" you asked.
"Tomura said you were his friend."
It didn't answer your question but you still let them in.
"Do you have cake ?" the man asked.
He looked nice but you frowned. How did he know you used to make cake ?
You shook your head.
"He said you were a doctor who didn't ask questions," the young girl said.
She was smiling at you and it scared you a little. But you couldn't hide your bitterness.
"If Tomura was still around, he'd know I'm not a doctor anymore and I'm gonna ask one question."
The girl's smile grew wider. For a moment, you hesitated. You knew he was trouble. You knew you were better off without him. But just because he wasn't around didn't mean you weren't bounded to him. He was all you could think about.
"Where is Tomura ?"
"We can take you to him," the young girl said.
You froze, surprised. You had thought about seeing him again for so long.
"You can ?" you asked.
She nodded like it was nothing. She had no idea how important it was to you. You looked at the young girl's shoulder. It was a deep cut but it wasn't too bad. She wasn't a bad kid, you thought. You wondered what led her to be on that side. Once you fixed her shoulder, she made you follow her into a small alley. The kind you wouldn't go willingly if it wasn't for him. You were getting into the villains' side. She opened a back door.
"You're back," you heard once you got in.
The voice took your breath away. His voice. It had been a year since you heard it and it was a little bit different from what you remembered but the way you felt was the same. He looked up and his eyes finally met yours. None of you spoke for a moment. You just took a look at his face. He looked tired. His hair seemed longer.
"Hi," you finally said.
He hummed, still staring at you. You guessed he didn't suddenly become talkative since the last time you met.
"Why are you here ?" he asked you.
"I'm here for you."
His face didn't show any emotion. He wasn't curious about you, he wasn't happy to see you. Maybe you were the only one.
"I thought I'd say you need a friend, so I'd be here for you, but you already have friends. Then I figured I'd say you need a doctor, but Himiko said you already have one. So I have no other reason to be here other than you."
He sighed.
"Then you should leave."
He turned around. He couldn't look at you. Not when he tried his best to forget about you.
"I won't," he heard you say.
He clenched his fists. He was always angry. At the world, at the system, and now at you too.
"I don't want to go."
He hated you for being so naive. He couldn't stop his anger from overflowing when he turned towards you. You jumped from how sudden his movements were and that made him even angrier. He walked to you and put his fingers around your neck. Four out of five.
"I'm one finger away to kill you."
He stared at you. The look you had on your face was different from the last time. Still, you remained different from him, innocent. You were still scared.
"I know you won't kill me."
"But you're still scared."
You didn't answer and he let you go. You didn't stop looking at him like you were scared he would disappear. He couldn't help thinking he didn't deserve this.
"That's why you have no reason to be here," he said.
You slowly raised your arm and touched his cheek. He didn't flinch like the last time. He didn't move at all. It had been a while since anybody touched him so... affectionately. He couldn't even tell when was the last time it happened. He closed his eyes. It felt warm, different from anything he had felt before.
It was something he could never have. All he had known was hate and destruction, and that was all he had been set to know.
"Can't I be here just because I want to be with you ?" you asked.
He opened his eyes and met yours, who seemed to be begging to accept you.
"And then what ? Are you gonna be a villain too ?"
You frowned. You didn't think this far. You had all the time in the world and you didn't think about what would happen next.
"What about your studies ? And your family ?"
The reality hit you.
"And your friends ?" he added. "Your life ?"
The two of you were from two different worlds. You wouldn't be able to be in those two worlds, you would have to choose. You had to leave everything and everybody you knew behind. Forever.
For him.
"What if I drop it all ?" you asked.
Your voice was smaller than usual. He smiled. It was different from the one you saw that day. He looked innocent. For the first time, it looked like the two of you were part of the same world. You could see in his eyes that he too, wondered how it would have been if you had met under different circumstances. If you didn't open the door that day.
"I won't let you."
His smile disappeared and his eyes grew cold.
"That's why you need to go home, Y/N."
Your vision got blurry. You didn't want to cry in front of him. You had been waiting to see him. Wondering how he was, where he was. He was doing well, as well as a villain could do. He had people around him, people like him, people who could understand him.
"If I do," you said. "Will you come to visit from time to time ?"
He didn't move. He didn't answer. You sighed. You never thought you would see him again, so even if it was one last time, you were happy to see he was ok. You turned around to leave the room.
"Maybe I will," you heard him say.
You smiled as you walked away. It wasn't totally over yet.

Happy International Florence Pugh Day to those of us who observe! lol. Here’s how Kate and Yelena’s first birthday together in MAU goes down. All thanks to Ri being a snooping nightmare. You guys wanted early relationship? Here is 4.1k of pure early relationship domesticity/fluff.
///
Kate raps her knuckles thrice against the dark walnut door. She is speedily compelled to bite back a smile when she hears the over-the-top, disgruntled groan from somewhere on the other side.
“Knock again, mommy.”
“Pretty sure she heard us.”
Yelena swings the door open to find the now familiar sight. Since Yelena moved into this temporary rental, every time there’s been a knock on that door, one or both of the women currently standing across from her has been responsible. Yelena is even more dumbfounded than usual because the regular visitors have arrived with props…and treats. Ereka is wearing a party hat and holding a foil balloon with “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” written in bold, colorful letters and Kate is holding a single cupcake with a lit candle in the center.
“Happy Birthday, Yelena.”
Yelena furrows her brow.
“How do you know it’s my birthday?”
“You told Ereka.”
“I didn’t tell her anything.”
“You told me she told you.” Kate peeks down at Ereka, perplexed.
“Mommy taught me how to read her birthday on her driving card. It’s month. Then day. Then year. Yours said zero eight, then one six. August is month eight and today is day one six. It’s your birthday.”
Yelena is only further flabbergasted.
“When did you see my driver’s license?”
“YOU FOUND OUT BECAUSE YOU SAW HER LICENSE?! HOW?!”
“It was on the thing.” Ereka points at the side table by the couch where Yelena’s wallet sits next to her keys.
“You’re not supposed to be looking through people’s things!…She knows she’s not supposed to look through people’s things. I’m so sorry. She told me you told her.” Kate extends the cupcake. “You can still blow out your candle???”
“Make a wish! Make a wish! Make a wish!” Ereka chants, staring up at Yelena. Yelena tuts, begrudgingly leans forward, blows out the candle with contempt, and turns her back to them to step back into the apartment. “You forgot your cupcake!”
Yelena huffs, turns, extends her hand, snatches the cupcake from Kate’s hand, nods once as some sort of lame ‘thank you’, and moves to close the door yet again. Kate starts blurting out words to stop Yelena from doing so.
“Uhm…I don’t know if you know this, but grocery stores don’t really sell ONE cupcake. There’s five more where that came from, only two of us, and I need any excuse not to have my five-year-old eat more than one of them if I can avoid it. She won’t sleep if she has more than one.”
“Your daughter’s sugar consumption is not my responsibility, Kate.”
“They have sprinkles.” Ereka chimes in. When Yelena doesn’t immediately move, Ereka takes the initiative to step up, hold the woman’s hand, and pull on it. “Come on. I’ll tell mommy to open wine like she does when my aunts come over. They’re always happy after they drink wine. Mommy says adults only drink wine on big days and it’s your birthday. Can she have some wine with you, mommy?”
“I don’t need wine.”
Kate grins and laughs softly.
“You can have wine.”
“I’ll pass.”
“What are you doing that is so important that you can’t come over for a cupcake and a glass of wine?”
“I already have a cupcake…” Yelena lifts the one she’s holding. “…and I can buy my own wine.”
“What about the company? Can you buy that?” Kate fires back, peeved at Yelena’s animosity. “Sorry we bugged you.”
Yelena closes the door without adding a word. Kate and Ereka linger for a second, then step away and begin to head to their apartment.
“She’s not coming, mommy?”
“No, baby. Go grab one of those cupcakes. ONE! I’ll be right there.”
Ereka’s face lights up and she disappears into their place. Kate stomps back to Yelena’s door and pounds her fist on it.
“What?!”
“I’m not gonna beg or force you to hang out with my kid, but at least don’t be a fucking dick to her. Bare minimum.”
Kate storms off and slams her apartment door shut behind her while glaring directly at Yelena. Yelena slams hers in response.
Half an hour later, a knock. This time on Kate’s door. When Kate opens it, she finds Yelena looking borderline painfully contrite, awkwardly shifting her weight between her feet, and mumbling to herself.
“I wasn’t sure if there would be any cupcakes left, so I went to the bodega. They didn’t have cupcakes, but they had empanadas, so I said…close enough. And…” Yelena lifts the bottle she’s holding. “It’s bodega wine, so I’m sure it tastes like vinegar, but it’s the best I could do on short notice.” Kate doesn’t respond. “Look, I like the kid. I don’t know why but I like her. I didn’t mean to be a dick. Birthdays suck. I wasn’t in a good mood, but that’s not her fault. I get it if she’s asleep or she’s already had dinner or whatever, but…here…you can have these and…do whatever with them.”
Kate glares stoically for what feels like an eternity to Yelena.
“Hey, Ri...How many cupcakes do we have left?”
“Two!”
“I guess it’s a good thing we saved some, then.”
Yelena hears the pitter-patter of footsteps running to the door and within seconds, a head of blonde hair appears from behind Kate.
“YOU CAME!”
“Her bedtime was technically fifteen minutes ago, but she’s on a sugar high, so here we are.”
Kate takes a step back, welcoming Yelena inside for the first time.
“What did you bring?!”
“Nothing that you’re eating tonight. You already brushed your teeth.”
“And I can brush them again!”
“No, ma’am. You’re done for the night. Enough.”
“Do you see? She doesn’t feed me.”
“EREKA! I feed her just fine.”
Yelena surveys her surroundings keenly while Kate heads for the kitchen to get a wine opener and glasses and Ereka buzzes around the apartment, ranting at top speed and pointing at things.
Unlike Yelena’s rental, this apartment feels like a home. There are pictures of Kate and Ereka at all ages. There are silly children’s drawings on the fridge and toys on the floor. Yelena feels the warmth of family and love here. Yelena steps further into the living room and notices colorful multiplication and division flash card sets splayed out on the coffee table.
“Isn’t she five?”
“Yeah.”
“This is…”
“Second and third-grade level…yeah.”
“And she’s doing it for fun?”
Yelena thumbs through the cards as she falls back down on the couch.
“Uhum. Quiz her. She’ll love it.”
“I don’t want to…”
“It’s just asking her questions,” Kate urges her while pouring some of the bodega wine into a glass and sliding it over in her direction.
“Hey. Do you want to do some flashcards?”
“YEAH!” Ereka instantly dashes over to Yelena at the suggestion and settles on the floor across from her.
“Four times seven.”
After a few seconds of thought…
“Twenty-eight!”
“Eleven times two.”
“EASY! That’s one plus one twice. Twenty-two.”
Yelena glances over at Kate, who shrugs with a boastful smile.
“Twenty-four divided by three.”
Ereka seems to struggle somewhat with this one.
“You got it.” Kate cheers from the sidelines.
“You can do it. Twenty-four divided by three.”
“EIGHT!”
Yelena lifts her hand and Ereka high-fives it.
“Good job. Nice.”
“What’s in the bag?”
“Empanadas.”
“Can I have some?! Mommy, PLEASE?! PLEASE, MOMMY?!”
“Ri, you REALLY have to go to sleep. Look at the time. You’re going to be a nightmare in the morning.”
“One and then I’ll brush my teeth AGAIN and Yelena will read me a story and then I’ll go right to sleep.”
“Yelena doesn’t have to read you a story, Ri.”
“She’s a grown-up. Grown-ups can read. You can read, right?”
“I can.”
“Then she can read me my story, mommy.”
“What is with you tonight?” Kate scolds the girl forcing Yelena to smirk.
“If it’s okay with your mom and if you brush your teeth and promise to go to sleep right away and not be a nightmare in the morning…I will read you a story. How does that sound? Would that be okay, mom?”
Kate and Yelena lock eyes with each other for a beat too long. Kate nods.
“Yeah. Sure.”
Yelena hands one of the empanadas to Ereka, who instantly digs in.
“So good!”
She mumbles with her mouth full, making crumbs fall everywhere.
“Ri, honestly. Why are you behaving like I haven’t taught you manners? Mouth closed, no talking.”
“Sorry,” Ereka replies, doing the exact same thing again.
Yelena chuckles.
“She’s not usually this insane. It’s the sugar…Which could’ve been prevented had you come earlier.”
“I will trust you when you tell me she can’t have more than one cupcake next time.”
“Thank you.”
“OKAY. BRUSHING MY TEETH!”
Ereka stands and runs to the bathroom.
“How?” Yelena looks down at her empanada and she’s barely taken two bites. “She inhaled that?”
“She eats like her dad. One minute it’s there, then it isn’t. Between us, it’s kind of a little gross to watch them eat together. Reminds me of vacuums at full speed sucking food into their mouths.”
Yelena chuckles and Kate joins her.
“DONE! Ready for my story now!”
“Ereka Shepherd, you didn’t even run the water. Nice try. Brush your teeth!”
“UGH!…CAN YOU HEAR THE WATER NOW?!”
“I hear the water, but if I can also hear you talking, that means you’re not brushing, doesn’t it?” Yelena snickers. “Do you have nieces or nephews?” Yelena shakes her head. “Are you ever around kids?” Yelena shakes her head again. “Don’t take mine as the standard then. I promise they’re not all Mowgli over there. Some of them are normal, human kids.”
Yelena offers a half grin.
“Yours isn’t whiny and snotty and germy. I kind of like yours more than the rest I’ve seen.”
“HA! If I had a dollar for every time that kid has sneezed directly into my open mouth, up one of my nostrils, or into one of my eyeballs, I wouldn’t be a millionaire, but I could at least afford a lobster dinner for two. With wine. She’s plenty snotty and germy. And don’t get me started on the whiny.”
“Maybe I like her a little less then. I…don’t know what I would do if someone sneezed into my open mouth.”
“Catches you off guard the first time. You kinda roll with it after that. It’s all about…”
Ereka runs over, opens her mouth on Kate’s face, and then blows warm breath onto her. Kate is forced to turn her head away.
“Can you smell the clean?”
“Case in point…You and I are going to have a really serious conversation about manners tomorrow.” Kate wraps her arms around Erika’s waist and flings her over her shoulder. “You…are going to bed. No ‘ifs’ or ‘buts’ anymore.”
“YELENA HAS TO READ ME MY STORY!”
“You need to be in bed for that.” Kate retorts while hauling her daughter away. Yelena stays put while they disappear into the little girl’s bedroom. A few seconds later, Kate’s head pops out, staring at Yelena, baffled. “You sorta need to be in the room to read the story.”
“Sorry! I didn’t…I…Right.” Yelena takes another sip of her disgusting wine, leaves the glass behind, and double times to where Kate stands. She enters the bedroom, looks at Kate coyly, then half whispers. “I’ve never done this before?”
“Read?” Kate teases her.
Yelena grunts.
“This…bedtime thing. To a kid…I don’t know how it goes.”
“Alright. Bedtime for dummies: the crash course. That is the bed. That is the child that needs to go to sleep. This is the bookshelf. The child usually tells you what they’re in the mood for. Sometimes they let you pick. You can also give them choices. It’s all a very fluid situation. Once the book is picked, you read said book to the child until the child is asleep. Then your mission is to exit the room without waking the child. If you do all these things successfully every night, you reward yourself by having wine and snacks without the child asking you what you’re eating and if they can have some. That’s about it.”
“Okay.”
“Kid’s already in bed, so this is where you ask her what she wants you to read. We’re in progress with a few things because she sometimes decides to spice it up and start something new. This is the stack of things we’ve started and haven’t finished.”
“The Boxcar Children, The Complete Book Of The Flower Fairies, Harriet The Spy, The Tal…”
“Harriet the Spy!”
Yelena grabs the book from the stack and looks at Kate.
“Should be an earmarked page or bookmark in there somewhere.” Yelena finds the mark indicating where they left off but still looks up at Kate, stumped. “...Now you sit over there and read it to her.”
“On her bed?”
“That is usually what tends to happen during ‘bedtime’, yes.” Kate takes a beat. “Hey, you don’t have to if you don’t want to.”
“No…I just…didn’t want to be weird.”
Kate hangs her head back laughing.
“I appreciate that, but I’m standing right here. You can sit at the foot of the bed if that feels better. It’s fine.”
“Is it cool if I sit over here?”
Yelena asks Ereka while pointing to the spot by her feet and the little girl nods enthusiastically. Yelena takes a seat and cracks the book as Kate walks over to the little girl and places a gentle kiss on her forehead.
“Good night. I love you.”
“Night, Mommy. Night, Yelena.”
“Good night, kid.”
Kate retreats, leans against the bookshelf, and watches as Yelena begins to read.
About forty-five minutes later, Kate and Yelena sneak out of the room.
“She really made you work for that. She’s usually snoring her little heart out in ten minutes.”
“It must be the horrible, raspy voice. Stuff of nightmares. Kept the poor kid awake.”
Kate laughs.
“Solid running theory.”
“I should get going.”
“There’s still plenty of wine left. Can’t make me throw away top-shelf bodega wine. That would be criminal.”
Yelena studies Kate’s face, smiles, and nods wordlessly. They return to their old places on the couch and begin to eat the remaining empanadas in silence, albeit not an awkward silence. Once she’s done with her share, Kate washes them down with a big gulp of wine that ostensibly emboldens her to ask the question that’s been on her mind all night.
“Why do birthdays suck?”
Yelena shakes her head and takes a sip.
“Some people just hate birthdays.”
“And all those people have a reason for it, whether they want to admit it or not.”
“Why would I admit mine to you?”
“Because you have nothing to lose. I’m just a random stranger you met before moving to the other side of the world in a few months and never seeing me again.”
Yelena ponders for a long moment. Kate notices the exact instant Yelena decides to share because her entire body language changes. She stiffens up even more than usual.
“There was a woman…her name was Melina. She wasn’t my mom, but she was with my father since before I can remember. My real mom was never in the picture and Melina stepped up. She didn’t have to, but she did. She always made a big deal about my birthdays.” Yelena breaks out into a thick Russian accent. “‘You get to be more than princess; you get to be queen for day’, she would say. My word was law. Within reason. I once tried to ask if I could ride a zebra and that obviously didn’t happen. But most everything else did.”
Yelena sits in silence for a while and Kate doesn’t press her.
“She was just walking home. It’s so stupid. She was coming home with groceries and some monster wanted her. And he took her from us. I read the court transcript files a few years ago. When he was on the stand, the lead detectives said it was ‘one of the most horrid crime scenes’ he’d ever step into in his twenty-year career.”
Kate reaches out and places her hand atop Yelena’s.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I hope they caught that guy and he’s paying for what he did to you and your family.”
Yelena chuckles, not out of humor but irony. She locks eyes with Kate and, in the most casual manner says.
“He’s dead. My dad found him before the police did and killed him, then turned himself in. My parents brought me over from Russia and there was no one else, so…I went into the system. But I’m not some horror story. I didn’t get bounced around or abused. I lived with one foster family the entire time and they were great. They were fine, decent human beings. They had another foster. She was older and also Russian. We got close. Really close. Wouldn’t leave each other’s sides. I even followed her to school in California. We did our undergrads there. Natasha decided she wanted to stay on the West Coast so I applied to law schools there too and chose to go to Stanford. My second week there, I get a call. She was out riding her bike. Some guy’s breaks failed and he smashed his SUV into her at 125MPH. She probably didn’t even see it coming. I didn’t go home for the funeral. Haven’t really talked to the Rushmans ever since. Not much to say, I don’t think. But ending up with people like them was the one thing I can say was good about this entire situation.”
“Yelena, I’m…”
“I’m sure you’re stressing, trying to find ‘the right things to say’. You don’t have to. People have run the gamut and it always goes off the rails eventually, no matter how well-intentioned, so I’ll let you off the hook. You don’t have to say anything.”
“I’m really…”
“I’m telling you, leave it while you’re ahead. Trust me.”
“Okay.” After they sit in silence for a moment, Kate looks up at Yelena and asks. “Have you been queen yet today?”
“What?”
“Have you asked for anything yet? You get to be queen. What do you want? It’s your day and it’s not over yet.”
“No.”
“I don’t even know how old you’re turning.”
Yelena sighs.
“Thirty.”
“THIRTY!” Kate grimaces when she realizes she screamed a bit too loud. They freeze, but when no sound comes from Ereka’s room, they relax anew. Kate scream whispers. “THIRTY?! IT’S YOUR BIG DIRTY THIRTY AND YOU’RE SPENDING IT IN MY LIVING ROOM DRINKING BODEGA WINE?! WHY?!”
“Birthdays suck. We already went over this.”
“No. I can’t allow this. Not in good conscience. There are obvious limitations to what wishes I can grant, but…be queen. Go. Ask me for something I can do that won’t require abandoning my sleeping five year old and I will do it.”
“You are a weird woman, Kate Bishop.”
“That’s a statement, not a request.”
“I have no wishes or requests. I’m fresh out.”
“There has to be SOMETHING I can do for you that will make you even remotely happy.”
Yelena cocks her eyebrow.
“I don’t think that sounded right.”
Yelena laughs and sips her wine.
“You said it.”
“Think. I’m not letting you walk out of here without fulfilling your duties as birthday queen.”
Yelena grunts.
“You’re very pushy.”
“Indeed.”
Yelena leans back on the couch and scans the apartment, trying to find something, anything she can offer up to satisfy Kate. Making her way through the kitchen counters, she spots a box of pasta and a smile creeps up on her face.
“Mac and Cheese. It was my favorite thing when I was little. I used to ask for it all the time. Melina made the best. I haven’t had some in a long time…A long time.”
Kate springs to her feet and races to the kitchen while talking and opening cupboards.
“Well, you…birthday queen…are in luck because my kid is a mac and cheese FIEND and I only do the boxed shit in a pickle, so I happen to have everything I need to make all of your mac and cheese dreams come true. From scratch. Like the gods intended. Not the pasta. I’m not making you fresh pasta at…” Kate looks over her shoulder to the microwave. “...11:37pm. That’ll be next time. But the cheese sauce? That I can blow your mind with. And don’t think I won’t bake it to get a crunchy crust on it. You might leave this apartment at 3am, but it’s your birthday and I don’t care. You can nap while I work if you have to.”
Yelena laughs.
“Boxed will do just fine.”
“Aht-aht. You’re going to sit there and you’re going to wait until I give you your birthday wish…I do need you to do one thing for me.”
“What?”
“We’re going to need more wine.” Their eyes lock and they smirk. “Alcohol is on that top cabinet over there. Child lock is easier than it looks. They want kids to think it’s hard, so they give up before trying.”
“You childproof your top cabinets.”
“You wouldn’t believe the places I’ve found that kid after I’ve turned my back for five literal seconds. I have some vintage bottles in there. It’s more about protecting them from her than vice versa.”
Yelena smiles.
“What do you want?”
Kate stops to think.
“I should have a bottle of Chablis in there. Pull that down. We’ll drink that with the actual mac. It’ll pair well with the cheese. That’ll be the eating wine. For now, just grab any Pinot in there. They’re all good.”
“Two bottles?”
“You got anywhere else you need to be? Because this is gonna take a second.”
Yelena shakes her, brings down the second bottle of wine, then locks the cabinet again.
“Do you need anything?”
“I do, actually. I need you to sit down, open that wine, and drink.” Yelena nods, perches herself on one of the stools, and gets to work on the Pinot bottle. “So, you were born in Russia?”
“I was.”
They trade off asking each other questions about anything and everything and going off on tangents while Kate cooks.
Sometime well past 2AM, the pair sits at Kate’s dinner table, huffing out boiling pasta from their mouths as they eat directly from the sizzling ovenware because they couldn’t even be bothered with plates. They’re a little drunk on wine, high on exhaustion, and, whether they want to admit it or not…a little hooked on each other.
“Please don’t take this the wrong way because it is fucking delicious…but do you have hot sauce?”
Kate shakes her head with her mouth full.
“I’m very white. Can’t do spicy. You like spicy?”
“A lot. This would be kind of perfect with some hot sauce on it.”
“Noted…Ri loves spicy food too. She eats it with her dad all the time. His family orders Indian, Thai, and Chinese and it’s always super spicy. I couldn’t even be in the same room when they were all together and eating sometimes. Always asked them to bag my White Girl Bland food separately when we ordered take-out to keep it from getting contaminated with their toxic chili fumes.”
They both laugh.
“You don’t seem very ‘White Girl Bland’ to me.”
“Not in general…I’d like to think. Just when it comes to flames in my mouth. Love to avoid that feeling if at all possible.”
“Good to know…Do you need help washing up? It’s super late. I don’t want you to have to do dishes too.”
“No. No. My housekeeper is going to be here in…four hours.” They chuckle. “This apartment would look like a nuclear site if I didn’t have someone over three times a week to help with that. I can leave them.”
“I should go then.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
They sit there, silent and looking at each other while still sneaking bits of mac, for longer than they should’ve before Yelena finally musters up the will to stand. Kate follows her to the door.
“Happy Dirty Thirty.”
“As you can tell, I get super rowdy.”
“You’re a wild one. Thirty, Flirty, and Thriving.”
“Am I? All of those things?”
“At least two that I can count.”
“Which two?”
“You’re smart. I’ll let you lawyer that conclusion out.”
Kate tells Yelena before she smirks and closes the door on her, leaving a more than mildly smitten Russian standing on the other side.

lololol at my job, I get lots of cold calls from salesmen trying to talk to my boss. My boss literally pays me to not have to talk to them, but I get a lot of repeat callers, and have become almost friendly with some of them. Then I thought--"MAKE IT JUKE" and it wouldn't get out of my head so lol here you go. 😊
“Covington Corp, this is Julie!”
“Hey Julie, it’s Luke Patterson, from Star Records. How are you doing?”
Julie felt her annoyance at the phone call fade away at the voice of her favorite cold caller. “Luke, you know I know where you’re from, right? You don’t have to introduce yourself every time.”
Luke laughed on the other end of the phone. “It’s company policy. We always introduce ourselves with the company name. And for us lowly assistants, our boss’s name. But that one’s more flexible.”
“I see. Well how are you doing, Luke? The great city of Chicago treating you well?”
“Yeah, yeah, things are good. I’ve pretty much readjusted to the cold after so long away, which is good, because it’s cold for like seventy-five percent of the year.”
“I guess that’s a good thing, then. Have you guys gotten any snow yet? My Tia posted a picture of a snowman on Instagram last week while she was visiting her stepson David in Boston.”
“Nah, not yet, anyway, but Mom says she thinks it’s coming.” There was a hint of worry in his voice.
“How is your mom? Last time you called, you said she was supposed to be out of the cast on her right leg and getting ready for surgery on her left. Is that still going on?”
"Yeah, she’s out of the cast and doing PT and stuff. And they're talking about scheduling her other surgery. But it's gonna be a few months, so she can really PT well on her right before her left is in a cast." He sighed. "I don't regret coming home to help out for a while, because Mom needs me, ya know? And I love her. But it's hard being away from LA, away from my best friends and the city that I love and worked so hard to make it to and put down roots in."
Julie nodded. "That makes sense." She looped her fingers through the coiled phone cord. "But LA will still be here when you get back, and I know your parents are grateful that you're home to help while things are so tough. Besides," she chuckled, "if you hadn't gotten that temp job, you never would have ended up chatting with a mad woman in LA once a month trying to get my boss to consider some deal."
"That’s true. You make it all worth it, Jules!" He teased, but even though she knew he was kidding, Julie felt a fluttering in her belly that told her how much she wished that was true.
"Well let's change the subject. You heard from your boys lately?"
“Yeah, actually!” Julie loved the way his whole voice brightened at the mention of his friends. She could almost picture the joy on his face, except for the fact that she had no idea what he looked like. Damn his dislike of Instagram. “Reggie and Bobby scored us an invite to this talent manager’s open mic event, and Alex sent a pic from his six-month anniversary date with Willie. I think they’re all doing really good.”
“I’m glad to hear it, Luke!” she answered warmly.
"Now you, please tell me all about the best city in the world. Give me all the news from LA."
Julie grinned. "It’s LA. Traffic's a nightmare and there are celebrities all over the place. Flynn is convinced she saw Olivia Rodrigo at her favorite coffee shop. We went to another open mic at Eats and Beats a couple weeks ago, and there were some really solid acts. There was one band, Triple Deck Lost, that was pretty good. They had a really grungy, punk vibe that reminded me of bands my mom used to listen to."
"No way!!! Alex was at that open mic!! That's what he and Willie did for their anniversary!! Willie loved that band!”
"Oh my gosh! I was in the same room as one of your boys and had no idea! That's wild!"
"Man, I wish you guys had known. You would totally be friends if you ever met. Alex is great!" Luke sounded wistful and even a bit homesick, so Julie tried to cheer him up.
"Well think of it this way, when your mom's all healed up and you move back to LA, we'll all get together and meet for real. And then Alex and I will be friends and it'll be great." Just then, she heard the elevator ding, and she immediately shifted into a more professional tone. “Give me just one minute, Mr. Patterson, and I’ll see if anyone in our marketing department is available to assist you.” She pretended to put the call on hold just as her terrifying boss passed her desk.
“Hold all my calls, Janie. I’m going to lunch.” He glided through the fancy lobby and out onto the sidewalk, and only when the glass doors closed behind him did she let out her breath.
“Was that him? I don’t think I’d ever heard his voice before,” Luke commented. “He sounds mean. Also, how does he not know your name? Haven’t you worked there for like, three years?”
Julie rolled her eyes. “Yeah, but he never bothers learning the names of receptionists. At least he got the right first letter. He called Carrie Misty for a month.”
“Well, while we’re on the subject of Mr. Covington, I wanted to schedule an appointment with him for Lila Harrison.”
Julie sighed. “I know your boss is desperate to make this deal, but you know I can’t put you on his calendar.”
“I suspected as much,” he answered, not sounding even a little put off. “But Lila’s doing her annual visit to Valley Dreams Management next week and told me to see if Covington might be interested in letting her buy him lunch.”
“I can ask when he gets back,” Julie answered doubtfully as she wrote down the information in her message book. “Any particular day?”
“We’ll be there Monday til Thursday evening, and she doesn’t have anything set in her calendar yet, so whenever would be most convenient for him.”
“Okay, I’ll pass the message along…” Julie looked around. The other receptionist was at lunch, and the office manager’s door was closed. She was definitely alone. “But Luke. You’ve been calling this office for months and Caleb is never available to talk to you or to schedule an appointment.”
“Yeah, I know.” Julie could hear the smile in his voice.
“Has it occurred to you that there might be a reason for that?”
“It has. Has it occurred to you that there might be a reason I keep calling anyway?”
“And what might that be, Rockstar?” she asked, feeling foolish for the spark of hope that had suddenly burst to life in her chest.
There was a long pause, and then she heard him clear his throat. "Jules. Lila's bringing me with her on this trip to LA next week. I think she knows how much I miss that city, plus apparently when she's not on maternity leave, Melinda always takes these trips with her. Anyway, I'm finally gonna be back in town, if only for the week, and I thought maybe… I mean, it could be cool if… would you want to get coffee or something with me?"
Julie was speechless. She had been expecting another six months at least before they could meet in person, so she wasn’t prepared for his invitation.
“Uh, Jules, you still there?”
“Oh my gosh, yes, I’m here, sorry. And, yeah, I would love to get coffee with you!”
Luke let out a nervous laugh. “Cool. Can I give you my number and you can text me and we’ll make plans?”
At that exact moment, the front door opened and the COO walked in. “Of course, Mr. Patterson. What is the best number for me to reach you at?” she said in her practiced professional voice.
Luke laughed. “I assume someone else just walked in?”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
“Well, I’ll let you go, but my number is 773-555-4357.”
“The last four were 4357?” she clarified.
“That’s it!”
“Perfect, I will get back to you as soon as I get a chance to look at the calendar. I hope you have a pleasant day!”
“Bye, Jules!”
She hung up the phone just as Mr. Dante stepped into the elevator. She immediately pulled out her phone and sent a text to the number she had scrawled on her wrist.
310-555-4639: Hi Luke, this is Julie Molina!
773-555-4357: doesn’t seem like you had time for more than a quick look at your calendar. sure you’re ready to make plans? 😉
310-555-4639: Lol yep! I’m free every day next week.  Just let me know what works for you!
