My Only Sunshine
It was a quiet night in Gotham, when suddenly the coms crackle to life, with a voice, that seemingly none of the bats recognized. That is all but one. Damians blood ran cold as he heard something that should not be possible. He had never even let himself think about it, because even recalling the mere memory of it would shatter him.
The other night, dear
As I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you
In my arms
Batman's voice was the first to come over the coms “oracle who is this? Where are they?”
“I’m working on it B.” She crackle back in her slightly mechanical disguised voice.
When I awoke, dear
I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried
Oracle may not have known where it was coming from, but he did. He knew it as he knew the heart beating in his chest and the air within his lungs. Without thinking he leapt off the building, grappling across the city that his father loved, but he has never thought of as his true home.
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are gray
He was vaguely aware as Batman cried out for him, but that didn’t matter. His blood was rushing too quickly through his ears. Any protest or question simply ignored. He had somewhere he needed to be, and he needed to be there now.
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Please don't take
My sunshine away
“Oracle location!”
“I’m trying B! But these people are good I can’t work faster than I am!”
Was the last thing that came over the coms before he reached up and muted everyone, everyone but the voice he was focused on. The world had narrowed down to the wind whipping past him, his heartbeat in his ears and the one voice that he had wish to hear again for so long.
I'll always love you and make you happy
And nothing else could come between
His lungs burned as Wayne industries came in to view. Why? Why of all nights was he on the outskirts of the city?  He needed to move faster, faster, please be fast enough. He begged to himself, to whatever god was out there be fast enough ….and for him to be there for this not to be some sort of cruel trick.
But if you leave me to love another
I’ll support you as you follow your dreams
It was him. It had to be him. only he knew to sing it that way.  His brother quietly singing and holding him as he silently cried. He was never good enough for grandfather, he will never be good enough to be the heir to be excepted never daring, hopeing to be loved, but it was never like that with his brother. His brother loved him more than anything, and he couldn’t stop anything as grandfather ran his sword through the heart of the one person he truly loved. Through the heart of Damien’s one weakness.
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are gray
Even at the end, when his brother knew grandfather was coming for him, his too kind brother never forced him. Always giving him a choice and he had failed his brother when he was willing to give up everything for someone as weak and pitiful as him. He wasn’t strong enough to run. He wasn’t strong enough to protect the one person who loved him above all else.
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Please don't take
My sunshine away
He was so close three minutes out. Almost there the highest spot in the city, the best place to see the stars.
Northstar, I’m so happy you made it out. I’m sorry I couldn’t be there with you.
My Northstar please stop blaming yourself. This was my choice. It was always my choice and I don’t regret a second of it so neither should you. You are without a second of doubt the best thing to have ever happened to me.
Damien felt a pit open up in his stomach.  Less than two minutes to Wayne enterprises
You have to let the others in Northstar. Being family to them, loving them it’s not replacing me or dishonoring me. Quite the opposite Northstar it’s keeping me alive; In a different way, but I’m still with you.
Go on brother adventures with Dick, try things that make you uncomfortable, but know that he will keep you safe.
Spend time with Babs in the library, read books that let you travel to fantastical worlds that we could never dream of.
Go to Jason for advice. You two are more alike than you even know, lean on each other, use that.
Try photography with Tim. Take pictures of all those animals that you love.
Less than one minute
Pull pranks with Stephanie. Let yourself be a kid and laugh at stupid and dumb things.
When things get too much go to Cass for quiet and understanding.
Go to Duke and ask him to take you out shopping at a regular store or to go to the mall to buy a toy for yourself. Enjoy the normal quiet moments.
Go to Bruce for comfort, he is Batman but he is also our dad don’t forget that, let him be a dad.
The world went blurry. There is no one on the roof.
Northstar I’m gone. I really am gone. You know how magic is Northstar your big brother had a few tricks up his sleeve, but I’m afraid this used the last of it. In the future in the far, far, far, future when you come join me in the hereafter, I’ll be waiting for you with open arms. I love you, Northstar now let our family love you in my stead.
As his feet made contact with the roof of Wayne enterprises a small, glowing object made it self known in the center of the roof. It appeared that stars itself littered and sprung from the object, beckoning him forward.
He was vaguely aware of the rest of the bats and birds joining him on the roof, but that didn’t matter. All that mattered was that his shaking hand was reaching out to grab the old dog stuffed animal as the last glitters of Stardust left the plush.
A drop of water fell down and landed on the left ear of the love worn dog. Reaching up and touching below the domino he realize that he was crying. When did that happen? When was the last time this happened?
As he clutched the dog plush to his chest, a frivolity that would have never been allowed in the league, but still his brother who he loved most in this world snuck it in for him. Hiding it behind a loose stone in the wall. Bringing it out for him to hold as his big brother comforted him and told him stories of a better life that they could have.
The demons heir, Robin, Damien sobbed, cried for the injustice of the world, for his brother who even waiting for him in the hereafter was still looking out for him.
His body shook as wave after wave of agony and despair ripped through him. Years of repressed grief tore through his body sharper and with more deadly aim than any blade. The floodgates had been opened. His big brother had given him this one last gift.
So when Batman, his father, his dad crouched down in front of him concern showing through his usual stoic expression he does not ignore what his brother has given him and leaps forward, clutching onto his dad and weeping for the brother that he lost and the son his dad will never get to know.

Someone mentioned trans! Talia and it has given me ideas. I might write this in the future but here are just my ideas. This is a sub Au of my Danny! Talia. So it is not at all Canon but if you were wondering Danny is more gender fluid in my og au, though I have not brought it up.
I like the idea that Damien still calls Danny mom. The term in my brain is not gendered for me.
no one to really talk about Talia around Damien at the beginning. In less he brings his mom up, so no one really realizes that Damian uses he/him pronouns for Thalia.
Danny more uses Talia as an alias as a way to dissociate that as a dead name.
ras is probably not super Progressive so this would be definitely kept more Under Wraps so Bruce has no idea.  Bruce left before Danny could say anything.
Danny has binders and has definitely cut their hair but uses extensions or wigs when they're around Ras and maybe even Bruce.
Jason definitely met Talia while they were going around as Danny. Talia uses Danny as a way to surveil Jason's Missions with the league with him not knowing.
Damian has definitely gone around Gotham with Danny in Plainview of the bat family but they have no idea because they have no idea to look out for that.
Someone makes a joke about Bruce having tension with some of his female villains and Damian mentions that he has some tension with the male ones too. Damian obviously means their mother but no one has any idea of that so everyone is trying to figure out what Damian means. I think Damien would say it in a sort of tone that makes it seem like it was obvious and then just walk away so no one really gets any answers.
Damien would have no idea that it's something not widely known because Danny never really concealed it. In my AU for Danny! Talia I have Sam and Tucker running around as Danny's right hand man. Damian mostly being raised with people that Danny knows won't betray them so they never really had to censor their words. I also Imagine That Damian doesn't really understand gender as a concept until later as a result of this. I don't mean it in a bad way because he always asks what pronouns people use and then just continues on. The bat family has no idea what causes this in the beginning.
I'm just imagining a little 10-year-old Damien going up to Tim asking his pronouns and then  threatening him but using the proper pronouns.

Thinking about Danny being reincarnated into Jason and Talia's child (since she canonically slept with teenaged Jason after his resurrection *blech*)
Talia getting pregnant the natural way but moving the embryo to an artificial womb so it wouldn't hinder her (because she would have hated her child more if she'd been forced to carry him to term, she already doesn't like him, this is not the child of her beloved, if her father hadn't thought the boy as useful leverage)
Jason having no idea this kid even exists until Talia informs him he's missing (of course Danny ran, he's surrounded by monsters, but with the few years of training he's gained and his powers that are starting to manifest again, he escapes to find his own way, not to find his father and burden him with his existence)
Bruce struck with horror that his son and grandson share a mother (he has a grandson, talia assaulted his boy, damian is a brother and an uncle to the same child, a child that is missing, a child that may be dead-)

DP x DC Prompt #7
Robin is heretofore thought to be alone when he swings his katana behind him, almost catching the Adam's apple of his mother's new lover.
"Whoopsie!" Danny says, taking an agile step back, as if Robin's slice was a slip of the hand rather than a deliberate and likely fatal attack.
"What are you doing here," Robin demands, mask hiding the momentary widen of his eyes. No one sneaks up on the heir of Batman, least of all his mother's latest toy.
"I wanted to chat, just you and I," Danny says, as if they are standing on a sidewalk and not the rooftop of a forty floor building in the dead of night, Robin in full costume. "I know you were kinda caught off guard yesterday night."
"I was not caught off guard."
This is a lie. Yesterday night when Talia had appeared at the latest Wayne Charity Ball as the date of Daniel Fenton, an up-and-coming name in renewable energy, Father's dumbfounded look had been nothing less than genuine.
And even the Annoyance had choked on his non-alcoholic champagne when Talia had instructed Damian to greet his "new stepfather".
"Talia," Danny had said levelly, running a hand over hers placed delicately in the crook of his arm, "Remember how we were going to break this gently?"
"Darling, Al Ghuls do not require a gentle break," Talia had replied.
"What is happening," Tim had quietly muttered, squinting at the contents of his glass suspiciously. "What."
Tonight Danny is as calm as he was the previous night, looking amused if anything. Damian resists the urge to take another swing at him. Mother would probably not like that. Danny's affections towards her had seemed quite genuine, his eyes often on her with a light Damian reluctantly recognized from Grayson's many dalliances. And dare he say it, Mother had seemed to reciprocate.
"My mistake. Still," Danny says, "I was hoping to speak with you alone."
"I do not require another father," Damian says promptly. This is true. He already has a father, and a Grayson, and the other annoyances, and Alfred. "And you should not be speaking to a...minor...without their guardian present." He does not like saying this, as he is fully capable of being his own guardian, but Dick had been adamant once updated by Tim and Barbara that should Damian come in contact with Danny alone he was to say as such. He had extracted a promise from Damian after a high-pitched lecture via video call going on nigh an hour. Damian had been waterboarded, twice, and would have preferred a third time to one of Grayson's seminars on "stranger danger" and "parental custody". It had prevented him from going on patrol with Batman, who had left shortly after the gala, presumably to meet with his mother.
Batman had not succeeded, returning without a word. Red Hood, cackling, had pulled up behind him to congratulate Damian on his new "daddy" and loudly tell Oracle how Bruce had gotten an eyeful. An eyeful of what, Damian wasn't sure, and asking only made Jason laugh harder and Dick yell from the Batcomputer.
"Good thing I'm speaking to Robin, then," Danny says with a grin. Damian updates his mental file on the man to less of a goody two-shoes than previously thought. "And like I said last night, I'm not here to overstep."
"Then?" Robin asks crossing his arms.
"You and I are a lot alike, actually," Danny says. Despite the chill of the night, wind whipping at his hair, he seems very comfortable in his t-shirt and jeans.
Damian scoffs and Danny holds his hands up.
"Okay, I deserved that one. What I mean is, and bear with me here, I had a lot going on when I was your age, and my parents weren't always super...present. Their work kept them pretty distracted as we got older and more independent."
The background check they'd run indicated Danny's parents were scientists, his sister a therapist and women's self-defense instructor. The man himself had nothing remarkable on his record beyond a public intoxication charge in his early twenties, but that hardly meant anything. Talia Al Ghul's public record was nothing short of exemplary, one of the many facts that had made the judge reluctant to grant Bruce full custody.
"And listen, I know the way I was raised in the midwest is vastly different from your upbringing, and comparing the two would likely be condescending and a disservice to you, but I also know that while I liked my independence, I wish I had been able to talk to my parents more when things got tough."
"I fail to understand what you are saying," Damian says flatly. "Are you instructing me to speak to my parents as you believe I am having a hard time? And your basis for this incredibly incorrect hypothesis is you were once a teenager whose parents were neglectful? Also, this is certainly overstepping."
Danny's smile is sheepish. "It is, isn't it?"
Damian turns to leave.
"What I'm trying to say," Danny says loudly. "Is that I intend to stay in Gotham. I have some things I need to see to here so I'll be here a while.
"And this is important to me because--"
"Talia will be staying." When Damian continues to stare at him blankly, he clarifies: "With me. Here. I mean, we definitely will go on a honeymoon at some point, even though I'm not sure we're actually married no matter what Talia says about that ceremony--"
"Tt. Grandfather will never let Mother simply galavant around."
"You don't need to worry about Ra's any more," Danny says, straightening. His voice is firm and certain. "He won't be bothering you or your mother."
"That's impossible," Damian says sharply.
"You can ask Talia yourself." Danny pulls out a card. "This is the hotel we're staying at. Room 805. You are right that you definitely shouldn't come without your father's permission, but if he's alright with it please feel free."
Danny takes a step closer, and if Damian's quick grip on his katana bothers him he doesn't show it.
"I mean it Robin. I'm not saying Talia's going to petition for joint custody, and I'll make sure Batman knows that as well. I just want you to know she's here. If you ever want to...see her."
He holds out the card until Damian plucks it from his hand with a growl.
"And also, Damian?"
"What?" Damian snaps.
"Your mom talks about you all the time. I think she'd like to see you too."
"Tt." Damian says, eyes darting down to the card. When they flick back up, Danny is gone.
Damian pulls a quick 360, sword drawn, but the man is nowhere to be seen.
"Robin," Batman says in his comm. "Need you on the west docks."
His comm line was open the whole time, he realizes, but Oracle is uncharacteristically silent. A further investigation shows no time has passed since Danny arrived at the roof. Only the card clenched in his fist indicates he was ever there.
"On my way," Damian says, sheathing his weapon.
Hmph. Of course. His mother is no fool, least of all in her selection of lovers.
Upon arriving at the cave later that night, Damian exits the clock at the rear of the group.
"Father," he says as he clears the threshold. "I wish to spend time with Mother and Stepfather at their earliest convenience. Perhaps tomorrow after school."
Everyone stops still, turning to look back at him. Tim pauses mid-stretch, Steph's jaw drops, and Cassie smiles pleasantly at him. Even Alfred, a tray of freshly baked cookies in hand, blinks at him.
Bruce's mouth opens and closes, wordlessly.
"Absolutely not!" Dick Grayson screeches from the other end of the hallway, dufflebag in hand. Behind him Jason grasps the doorway, doubled over in laughter.

Chapter Ten
Masterlist
Damian wondered if it would be okay to give into the urge to tackle Danny for cuddles now. He’d held back during the entire plane trip back, and he had snuggled with his mother rather than Danny when he’d found where they’d been fighting. He’d spent way too long pretending that he didn’t know such an important person in his life, and it was getting hard, he could practically feel himself vibrating in place. Damian was staring at Danny as he tried to figure it out, even though he knew that he could be considered rude for doing so.
Nellie was curled into one side, so the other was open for snuggling and there was enough room on the couch. Finally after twelve centuries, it was only five minutes according to his internal clock, Danny noticed him staring and smiled an okay. Still, Damian waited until Nellie gave her consent too before diving at Danny.
There were gasps around the room, and Damian heard at least one person yell his most common nickname in the tone that said they thought he was about to hurt somebody. He ignored all of them in favor of finally, finally, curling up into Danny’s side, one arm reaching behind them to tangle his fingers with Nellie’s. Damian’s eyes slipped closed as he let out a noise of contentment, but he knew that there were shocked looks directed at him from almost every member of his family. It wasn’t his fault that acting like the well adjusted person he used to be would have doomed the world to ending, so he didn’t feel like the gazes were quite warranted.
“So. How about I start out with a brief backstory and then we can get into your questions?” Danny’s voice sent soft rumbles through Damian with how close he was to them. It made Damian let out another sound filled with how content he was to be right where he wanted to be.
“That would be acceptable.” Father’s voice was tense enough that Damian knew him being so close to someone Father considered an unknown probable threat wasn’t giving everyone else the same comfort it was giving him. Oh well.
Danny took in a deep breath, telling Damian which story they were going to tell before they even started. “This is not the first life we’ve lived together. At first, we didn’t really know each other. Tim and I were online friends who discussed superheroes, but we didn’t know each other irl, we didn’t want to. In those days Amity Park, my hometown, was a neighboring city to Gotham, only about an hour or so away. I was adopted at around the age of ten by the Fenton family, in that life at least. I met Jason about eight years later when a government agency picked up signs of contamination on both of us. They called us ghost scum even though the actual term coined by the species we were technically a part of is Existences. Jason and I had both died at least once, brought back at different times and in different ways, but it meant we showed up on their scanners.”
“They’re called the GIW and they’re nearly nonexistent.” Nellie sounded sleepy, but Damian refused to open his eyes to double check.
“Yes, I was getting to that, but thank you.” Danny was surely smiling at Elle, but Damian knew it would drop as soon as the story continued, this was a hard time to relive for all of them who were there and remember. “The GIW did horrible experiments on us with a secondary purpose of killing us eventually. One of the worst things they did was make us believe we were being rescued utilizing some sort of hallucinogen that would make us see and hear whatever we wanted to see and hear then pretending to break us out only to punish us for attempting to escape. It took too long for us to be found, so by the time a real breakout was actually happening-”
“Jason flinched at his own guns.” Damian interrupted, finally opening his eyes to stare at Jason as the memory of that day played in his head. “He only realized it was a real gun when he used it to save us from an agent who was sneaking up on us. The hope and fear that lit up his face at that moment will always stay with me. No one got mad at me when I started to use excessive force, mainly because they were too busy doing the same. By the time we realized Da and Pops were gone, we’d basically destroyed the entire base, leaving the crippled remnants of their agents behind.” Damian saw the horror in Jason’s eyes, and all it did was remind him of that fateful day.
Danny ran their fingers through his hair, and he let it relax him enough for his eye to drift closed, leaning into the point of contact. “We didn’t fully trust that it was actually real, so Jason and I ran to Clockwork and Frostbite, two Existences who live in the dimension all Existences can call home, the Infinite Realms. We stayed there for a couple months to a couple years, time is hard to judge around Clockwork. When we got back, we couldn’t be separated from each other for too long because that typically meant the next experiment would be absolutely awful. Jason and I lived that life to an end that was a long time coming, dying side by side in the same way we’d always lived. It was a good life. Jack and Maddie were good in that one, we managed to rescue Talia from the mind control and brainwashing she was under, and we lived a full life that was full of love and joy.”
“If only it could have lasted into the next.” Elle’s voice was so miserable that Damian scooted closer to Danny to tangle the fingers of their spare hands together, giving his precious ghoul as much comfort as he could.
“Elle is right, the next life was absolutely awful. Damian was never born because Talia died early, Tim died as a tiny child, almost everyone we knew and loved were dying left and right. A combination of having to personally see most of those deaths, Fear Toxin, Joker Venom, and being constantly dipped into the Lazarus Pit drove the Dick of that life to such insanity he eventually blew up the entire universe, forcefully making everyone  in that universe move on. Jason and I remembered our first life for the entirety of our second, but I didn’t remember either life we’d lived until I reached what I think is eighteen years of mortal life and full maturity as an Existence. Existences don’t age or count maturity in the same way that mortals do, so Elle is technically my adult child even though she’s only about sixteen-ish in mortal years.”
Elle hummed. “Jack’s a piece of shit in this life though.”
Danny groaned playfully. “You’re so lucky that you can swear because you weren’t there when most of the town got soul cursed because of that stupid wish.”
“What, you gonna tell me I’m strawberry crepe grounded because you’re jealous I can say fuck?” Elle was probably smirking, if the teasing frame of voice was anything to go by. Damian just stayed floating in the void of black behind his eyes, letting the voices of his loved ones wash over him as the sense of peace rocked him to sleep so suddenly that he barely registered when it happened.
~`~`~
“I’ve never seen Demon Brat go to sleep like that before.” Jason’s voice was quiet and full of shock, managing to express himself while still making sure he didn’t wake his brother up.
“You mean you don’t remember him sleeping like this before, just like you don’t remember him ever calling you Pops before.” There was a slight smirk on Danny’s face that Jason saw in the corner of his eye as he kept staring at Damian, half expecting him to wake up because Danny hadn’t lowered their voice at all. “Don’t worry he won’t wake up.”
Dick shifted, drawing Jason’s attention to the stiff way he was sitting. “Why did he call you Da and Jason Pops?”
“Because that’s what I call them!” Nellie chirped.
Danny chuckled. “He married Nellie here in our first life, so we were his in-laws. Talia is his mother, Bruce is his father, Jason is his pops, I’m his da, and you, Dick, are his dad. He just didn’t have a chance to address you as such before falling asleep.”
“How does he remember? Is there a way that we could remember?” Tim sounded like he wanted to ask more, but Jason respected his ability to cut his questions off, staying silent because he didn’t think he could do the same.
“I think he made a deal with Clockwork to prevent the chaos of our second life, taking upon himself the burden of remembering for us. I don’t think he remembers the second, because I don’t know if he ever existed in the second. As for a way that you could remember… Jason will remember eventually, as soon as the Pit’s Influence finally leaves him behind. As for the rest of you… only if you become an Existence, of which there are many types. If you’re asking to see if you managed to solve your case before, you didn’t.” Danny looked so sad at the end there that Jason couldn’t help what blurted out of his mouth next.
“What happened to Tim with the twin case?”
Danny looked even closer to tears, and Jason felt like kicking himself at seeing that expression on their face. “He died.” Shock kept the room completely still and silent. “He didn’t share it, adding another massive project on top of his work in his civilian life and his vigilante life. The rest of you, not knowing what was bothering him and not wanting to push him too hard just tried to pick up the slack in a desperate attempt at giving him a break. It didn’t work. The more time he had off from his other obligations, the more he sunk into the twin case, but he never found anything.” The words poured out of Danny like a waterfall of agony, paralyzing everyone else in the room with the sheer depth and intensity of the feeling. “It.. It got to the point that we all tried to bench him, but he grabbed a spare suit and snuck out. On route to the Twin Case Safehouse, which is where I live now, he ran into the Joker, who killed him. We.” Danny paused, taking in a deep, fortifying breath that had Jason stiffening in fear for what would be said next. “We managed to keep Tim alive and back to the Cave. He was the right kind of personality and in the right kind of space to become an Existence after death, but he-” Tears started leaking from Danny’s eyes, as he broke off to do some calming breathing techniques. A minute of silence later, he picked the thread of the story back up again. “He said that he didn’t want to continue existing, that he didn’t deserve to, because he’d never finished his case. He said that the only solution he could come to is that his target was already dead and he refused to continue living in any way when they’d already passed into Limbo. He was the first to die.”
“Who else died to the Joker?” Bruce’s voice was quiet and fearful, yet steady, like he was horrified of the potential answers but needed to know regardless. Jason needed to know too, Danny had come home exhausted every time he’d been assigned to guard the clown. Jason needed to know how bad it was.
“Jason and I in our second life, Bruce, Tim, Dick, Duke, and Steph in our first life. He ordered the bomb set that killed Jazz, Tuck, Sam, and Jack in that first life as well. He was at least involved in the situations that killed most of you in the second life as well. He blinded Dick only a month before he killed him, so there’s that. He baited Scarecrow into the attack that killed Alfred. He tortured Jon into silence and a near coma, and he was at least part of a lot of the hero deaths that occurred in that first life, although most of those weren’t the most well known of heroes. Every time I see him, I refuse to give him any satisfaction, locking my emotions and feelings deep inside to present a blank mask to him all the while fighting back my natural instincts to kill him,” Danny’s face and voice were as dark as the topic, “To torture him and show him just what he put my family through in a life he no longer remembers, to show him what true fear really is, to make him the focus of every joke he once pulled, to-” Danny cut off when Damian stirred in his sleep, automatically brightening as he turned a little more towards Damian to pass their fingers through his hair again, muttering things that Jason couldn’t hear that caused Damian to sigh and relax back into sleep.
“We’re movin on from this topic. You guys can go discuss whatever ya want to in another room, but I’m gonna set this couch up inta the bed it can become and Ma, Damian, n I will be takin a nap. Don’t disturb us for your own safety, now shoo.” Nellie glared at them while flapping her hands until everyone had left and closed the door.
Jason was worried for Danny, that was a heavy topic and a heavy burden to carry. He was worried for Damian too, carrying the same weight for so long must have been exhausting. Talia was waiting for them in the sitting room that everyone settled into for the post questioning discussion. She took one look at their faces and gave them all an understanding smile.
“I remember everything too. Jason and Danny both needed a stand in to take the burden of remembering everything in order for this whole thing to work. Ask all your remaining questions to me, I’ll answer what I can.” At the disbelieving looks she received, she let out a short bark of laughter. “I swear on my loyalty to High King Phantom that I will not lie to any of you for this discussion.” The words sent a feeling of power through the room. “Believe me now?”

So I've seen a lot of posts that use Danny Todd or Respawn in reincarnation ideas. Couple that with a severe lack of sleep and a desperation to not do any or the various assignments I have and I got a gloriously stupid idea. What if Danny were constantly reincarnating?
We begin with Thomas Wayne Jr. Older brother to Bruce Wayne and brain damaged serial killer turned acrobat? (Boy the 70s were wild) anyhow after Thomas Jr. heroically takes a bullet for his brother, the higher powers that be decide he was given a rotten hand in life and decide to let him reincarnate.
Enter Danny Todd who has yet another tragic life. He tries to shield his brother from the terrors of the world and give him a good life. He even joins a gang and dirties his hands so Jason doesn't have to. The unfortunately ends with Danny Todd losing his life with the fire escape he's on collapses. The powers that be cough awkwardly as they realize this new life was just as terrible as the first. Therefore they try again.
Bam! Daniel Fenton comes bursting onto the scene and his life is actually pretty good. Sure his parents are a little obsessed with their research but by no means are they neglectful. Plus Danny is smart, talented, and driven. What a great life, nothing could possibly go wrong with this one! Until Danny turns 14 and promptly gets zapped. Now this right here opens up a whole new can of worms as Danny's newfound half ghost status gives him access to his past lives. Nothing too grand. Just little memories or feelings here and there but these glimpses seem to be getting clearer as time goes on. Too bad there's no time to focus on that though with all of these new ghost baddies stream in. Speaking of ghost baddies, during the events of TUE, Danny ends up sacrificing his life to save his family and erase Dan from the time stream.
So.... he's dead. Again. Geez what is with this kid dying younger and younger? Why can't you just live a long happy and fulfilling life!? *Sigh* That's it. Maybe what your soul really needs is some peaceful eternal rest. Wait where did he go? What do you mean he fell into a reincarnation pool? Who did he reincarnate as?!?
Respawn, son of Slade Wilson and Talia Al Ghul, opens his eyes. He has four sets of memories competing for dominance in his mind. Which leads him to be very confused and given his parentage/training, very angry. The only times things ever seemed to calm were when he was stalking Damian around his new family. Is that what he needs? The Waynes? But they already have Damian. Respawn would just be the spare if he joined them. He didn't like that. Replacement however - though still mildly annoying - he could get behind it.

Danyal Al Ghul's missed potential - this kid is not gonna behave like his canon self if he's with the league of assassins until his late formative years, and my reasoning why
(feel free to take this all with a grain of salt this is just my thoughts on it, this is all mostly amusing to me and isn't trying to be negative towards anyone else)
similar to how i was talking about how danny growing up in crime alley would affect him, demon twin aus with danyal al ghul make me laugh a lot (affectionate) because... whose teaching danny to unlearn all the ecofascism he picked up from the league of assassins? whose teaching him to be kind? to be gentle? Not the LoA thats for certain.
(you could plausibly say Jazz but she's only 2 years older than Danny and do you really expect a fellow child to properly explain why X is wrong to another child and have it be 100% effective? i don't doubt it'd help to an extent, but not in the same way an adult explaining it would)
plus a ton of other things, like whose teaching him to value human life? not the LoA. Whose teaching him how to adjust to living with American society after he ends up with the Fentons when he's 8-9-10? Who teaches him that killing is wrong, whose enforcing that?
(not the Fentons if you're going the neglectful parent route, and Jazz can try but i really don't think Danny is going to listen to her, a stranger who isn't even part of his grandfather's league)
How do you teach a child to value human life when the greatest development window for that opportunity has closed and he's already formed his own opinions?
You're not gonna get a Danny whose exactly like his canon attitude if he's staying with the league during his formative years (0-8 years old). you're not. You could get someone LIKE it, potentially, or someone who has traces of it or is similar -- like danny's wit and jokes and sarcasm, and on some level his kindness. but you're not gonna have a carbon copy. Development doesn't work that way. "nature" can only do so much in the face of nurture.
If anything, it doesn't even have to be a major change -- in the league he cans till be kind, but it's probably going to manifest in a different way than what is considered normal. Tough love, for one. But there's gonna be something that affects him negatively. Why make him 'always good/kind' when you can make him a brat who develops into a kinder (if spikier than in canon) person?
TLDR: Danyal Al Ghul would not be like how he is in canon if he's with the league until his late formative years -- not without any lasting pr permanent impacts from the league at least. Missed potential to make him an absolute nightmare like damian was -- especially in his early years when he first arrived to the Fenton house.
(this doesn't apply to danyal al ghul aus where he's either given to the fentons as a baby/is reincarnated/etc. this is mostly aimed for danyal al ghul aus where he fakes his death at like, 7-10 and somehow ends up, personality-wise like his completely canon self by 14 without any differences.)
(and even then if he's five or four, or even three, he would still be traumatized and influenced by the league. he'll just have more time to adjust. the sooner he leaves the league the more likely he is to be like his canon self, but not like an exact copy)
(more under the cut)
Anyways what I'm saying is that there is prime missed Danyal al Ghul potential to make him an absolute NIGHTMARE to the Fentons however way he ends up with them, just like Damian was with the Waynes! Cuz why does Damian get all the fun? Danny got the same training and endoctrine as him! He is also an ex-assassin! Why is Danny the only one who is 'well adjusted and non-violent' hm? Hmm?
Why can't he also be mean, and stabby, and a total stuck-up in some way or another? Have fun with his characterization, its prime opportunity to play play-doh and clay with him! If he starts out as X how does he get the personality traits of Y, and thus become XY?
Like take this with a grain of salt if you will, but make him arrogant. Make him an asshole! Make him a bad person at first! Because he will be! He's the blood son of the batman and you mean to tell me that damian is the only one arrogant about it at first? Make him stabby and mean even at 14 when he's begun to chill out! Have fun with it! If he's with the Fentons at any point past the age of four or five then he's gonna be a nightmare to handle because he still remembers the league and his time there.
(and while it gives him more time to chill the hell out, his time at the league is still gonna leave an impact on him.)
also what im saying as well is have him and sam potentially get along like a house on FIRE. Again, Danny grew up under the views of an ecofascist cult and nobody to challenge those views to him until he got to amity park at whatever age in late formative years he was at. He could be about as intense or even MORE intense about environmental awareness/rights than Sam is!
(also him being supremely unimpressed with Sam's wealth. he gave up a palace in the mountains for this town. because that's funny to me - like let his past have more influence on him! it'll be fun!)
you could have a danny who doesn't kill but doesn't fully understand the value of human life because jazz is like two years older than him and isn't that good at explaining why people's lives are important. he won't kill but he's not morally opposed to it. there's very little chance he actually gets bullied at school because he nearly killed Dash the first time he tried anything.
Danny could have scars, physical ones, because its implied in multiple canon that training starts at toddling (my best bet is 3 at minimum and ~maybe~ 2 but only on the later side of 2. Good fucking luck getting any infant under 2 to do anything you ask, ESPECIALLY assassin training. They're gonna stick the weapon in their mouth sooner than they're gonna do katas. This is coming from a daycare teacher.)
there's more examples of how danny being at the league during his formative years would affect him, but those are just some of them. he could have a sword! An appreciation for weaponry and nature. Maybe he still speaks all shakespearan and formal, does he still make bodily threats to people? If Damian is still threatening people at 14 why can't danny?
#dpxdc#dp x dc#dp x dc crossover#dpxdc crossover#dpdc#tldr danyal al ghul has a ton of missed potential of what his behavior would be like if he left the league mid-to-late formative years#this post is specifically directed towards those danyal al ghul posts where he ends up with the fentons when he's like. 8#like great. who taught him to unlearn all of the LoA's programming#how is he exactly like he was in canon despite being with the LoA during his early childhood#source: i've taken multiple child development classes#this isnt to bash those aus at all its just me thinking its hilarious that danny would even remotely be like his canon personality#especially if he's in the league long enough for damian to remember him#like i love danyal al ghul aus i just think there's not enough being taken into account about how the league would permanently impact him#especially if he leaves later on in life#people are not ponds they are puddles of mud. if you drop a rock into it it's gonna change its shape#its also good creative exercises on how to flesh characters out better and better understand how things in a story may impact a character#good thought exercises with the additional bonus of making danny a violent gremlin like damian is#i dont wanna say this is bashing but i guess it is kinda a criticism on the writing in those aus because you’re telling me this had NO#affect on danny on his personality beyond just ‘oh league bad. league scary’?? cmonnn have some fun#like you mean to tell me that being a child assassin had no lasting impact on him or his personality?? like at all???#he doesnt have an ounce of self-importance/arrogance/anger like damian did?? like none of that *stuck?* he’s just the normal and sane#sibling right off the bat??? five years with the fentons turned him into a complete blankslate?? he has no lasting impact from the league??

Immortal Danny meets his Families Reincarnations after years
So, Immortal Danny had to suffer through the deaths of his friends and family. For some reason, they never became Ghosts in the Zone, but he has kept looking for them in the Zone for centuries.
Then, one day, Clockwork come to him and explains that his Friends have all been Reincarnated. Due to them having died peaceful deaths, there weren't enough emotions to be turned into Ghosts, instead their souls were Reincarnated due to the amount of Ectoplasm in their bodies.
Danny goes to the Universe where they were Reincarnated, and finds that they all ended up reincarnating in a similar time-frame and location, and all ended up meeting eachother again.
His family and friends Reincarnated as the Bat Family
Bruce is actually the reincarnation of Jack Fenton, and while he is still a much better driver than before, Alfred prefers life thank you very much. He uses his Tech Know-How to build all his Bat-Gear. Hall also freakishly strong, and he isn't a Meta, so he has always been a little confused about that. His lingering guilt at being a bad dad in his past life leads him to be as great a dad as he can in this one.
Maddie Fenton is now Selena Kyle, using her natural athletic expertise and genius level technical know-how to steal artifacts from museums better than her canon counterpart ever could. She has always felt a connection to Batman for some reason, and flirted constantly.
Jazz became Barbra Gordan, and she is just as much a psychologist in this life as the last, but she uses it for Crime solving instead. I'm just going to say that she was officially adopted without Comissioner Gordans knowledge. He is not happy when he finds out that his daughter is legally shared by him and bruce.
Sam became Cassandra Cain, who for some reason has new Plant Powers reminiscent of Poison Ivy. Her soul is still technically that of the "Daughter of Undergrowth", so she gets her plant powers even in death. She now considers Poison Ivy her new sister for some reason. She is also still a Vegan.
Tucker is now Duke Thomas, who is confused as to why he seemingly has Egyptian Magic alongside his own Meta Abilities all of a sudden. He also has a talent for Coding and Hacking that could rival every other member of their family.
Tim used to be Wes, who befriended Danny after a while in his old life. He uses his smarts to figure out Batman is Bruce Wayne, and becomes the second Robin.
Dick was Dash, who mellowed out and became a good friend to Danny a while after the end of the series. In his new life, he is much kinder to everybody around him, as a remnant of his guilt for being so mean in his past life. It's alsowwhy he became a Cop.
Jason is undecided. Maybe he is still a friend to Danny, but he met him when he died and Danny found him while wandering. He considered him a little brother before he was resurrected and lost his memories. Or maybe he was another of Danny's friends, idk.
Alfred used to be Mr Lancer, and he has always had a weird talent for dealing with chaotic and freakishly strong teenagers. He also has a Love for helping children down on their luck.
Steph could have been Star, who rekindled her friendship with Danny after a few years as well. I honestly just like the idea of Danny's bullies becoming his friends after getting their life together.
I don't know about many of the others
This could then go 2 ways
Option 1:
When Danny discovers that his Family has all Reincarnated, he decides to Reincarnate as well to be with them again. With the help of Clockwork, he becomes Damian Al Ghul, born only a little time after his other family and friends.
He makes it so that he will slowly regain his memories and powers over his lifetime until he hits the age of 14, the age he was when he died.
The other Batfamily Members are confused, because Damian all of a sudden called a Family Meeting, and began telling them a story about how they were all the reincarnations of the mortal friends and family of the Ghost King. And that he is the Ghost King as well.
And it makes sense for some reason, they have all had vivid dreams of past lives, or skills and abilities that they don't remember picking up.
They slowly accept his story and the story continues from there.
Option 2:
Danny just goes directly to them after figuring it out, and the Batclan is suddenly visited by the God King of the Afterlife shouting about how he finally found his family.
Danny is just happy to be there, while the others are looking at bruce like "Oh my god, his Adoption Addiction has gotten so strong that the souls of the dead are being adopted by him"
And Danny is meeting his new brother Damian.
Or, Bonus Option
Danny goes to meet with them, then Damian walks in and pulls him aside. Tells him to ask for Clockwork to Reincarnate him, and pushes him through a portal.
A combination where Danny meets them, and then after he meets them goes back in time and Reincarnates himself as Damian.

family means no one gets left behind
by Rainycat
Meet Danyal al'Ghul: seventeen years old, Right Hand to the Demon (aka Talia al'Ghul, his mother), big brother to Damian Wayne, the White Ghost, assassin with a kill count well over 1000+. Meet Danyal "Call me Danny" Wayne, well-adjusted teenager from the same mother as Damian, who'd been in boarding school on the other side of the planet until he graduated, and looked to move to Gotham City to get to know his father and adopted family. Meet Danny Fenton-Phantom, full-time hero, King of the Ghost Zone, interdimensional being and beloved ruler with a frankly OP powerset that is only mitigated by his own lack of ability to remember all his powers.
Somehow, because Fate loves picking on Danny, these are all the same person through different eras.
(Aka, the "danny is damian's older brother and the reincarnation of fenton-phantom who remembers his old life and has some of his old powerset, but loves his family So Damn Much and wants them safe and sane again" au.) (inspired by the batpham server, who helped me workshop the basic idea for this & is constantly screaming over each other's fics. love yall weirdos.)

Crossover Danuary Week Day 3 & 4
Day 3 & 4: Sound/Free Day (DP x Batman xover)
(I'm counting this for both days since it technically fits both prompts and I wrote the majority of this between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. _(:з)∠)_
Read the AO3 version here! (It has endnotes )
Summary: Danny was fourteen and Damian was now seven. And every day he wondered how his little brother went from a cute, giggling baby to a brat out of hell.
or: 5 Times Damian Refuses to Call Danny by his Name and 1 Time He Does.
or: We're bringing back the classing fanfic trope! Danny dies and gets reincarnated as Damian Wayne's older brother.
Contrary to popular expectations, when Danny Fenton finally (fully) died, he did not wake up in the Ghost Zone.
Instead, he woke up a newborn infant, swaddled in the arms of a woman who looked nothing like his mother but called him son with such affection and wonder that it warmed his little heart. He snuggled closer to his new mother, content to sleep the days away.
Later on, when he grew out of the cloudiness of his infant mind and learned of exactly what kind of world he was reborn into, he might regret being so idle. But for now, Danny would rest. The mantle of hero was a heavy thing, and he could use a long, long break from it.
I. What’s in a name
When he was born into this strange new world, his grandfather bestowed upon him the name Ibn al’ Xuffasch. A moniker given in honor of his mysterious father. A shadow, a presence, a looming expectation placed upon him.
His mother—not mom, for that’s a title reserved for someone else—gave him a much better name.
Danyal al Ghul.
He still preferred going by Danny, even if no one at the League of Assassins ever called him that.
Well…not yet at least.
He pressed a hand against the walls of the artificial gestational tube, nose squished against the glass as Danny watched his new little brother float in the murky green waters. Mother said his brother’s name was Damian.
Damian was conceived five months ago, though looking at him now, you wouldn’t think that. He looked around eight to nine months, his growth and development artificially sped up with the use of highly unethical science. Danny should protest, and he probably would have in his previous life, but goddammit he was lonely, ok? Being the only kid in the League was awful. Almost as awful as the constant hero worship he had to endure after the disasteroid incident.
Besides, it isn’t as if this is the weirdest shit he’d seen.
“Danny,” he whispered to his brother. “My name is Danny. Remember that, ok squirt?”
Little Damian gave a little kick.
Danny will take that as a yes.
II. First Words
According to the League physician, Damian was progressing along normally. His accelerated gestational period didn’t seem to have any negative side effects that they knew of, and overall he was a very healthy, happy baby.
Danny was absolutely enamored with baby Damian, even at the ripe old age of seven (give or take a few centuries). He was just so small. Tiny. Fragile. An innocent little thing, his brother was. Not fit for life in the League.
If he could, he would take Damian away from the confines of Nanda Parbat and the two of them would strike out on their own. Or maybe they would find this father of theirs and shack up with him. It was too bad his powers were locked away somewhere. He could still access them on some level, but they were muted; a weak replacement compared to what Danny could do in his heyday.
Oh, well. Maybe it was for the best. A seven-year-old and a baby running halfway around the world to find their dad? It was a stupid plan now, really.
Damian giggled as Danny handed him a mini ice-figurine of Cujo. He clasped it with his pudgy hands, waving it around with his tiny little arms.
Danny almost let out an aww.
Nope. Screw that. He was aww-ing
It was just the two of them in Damian’s nursery, sat on a soft play mat in the middle of the room. Usually, Danny would still be doing his lessons around this time. Katas and strengthening exercises, botany, languages, advanced math, and sciences— the works. The benefit of reincarnating into a world similar enough to his Earth is that you usually know all of this shit already. Sure, having to relearn his center of gravity with every new growth spurt was annoying, but having access to some of his enhanced speed, strength, and centuries of combat experience helped him get over that hurdle. He could wipe the floor with some of these fuckers.
Ra’s al Ghul could cluck his tongue at Danny’s “lack of ambition” all he liked, but even he couldn’t deny that Danny was competent. It’s why Danny could get away with cutting his lessons early. That and Talia’s occasional indulgence, of course.
Damian babbled as he played. Danny made him some more ice figurines; play was an important part of children's development, and Danny needed an excuse to keep his memory fresh. He made a cow first, just because. Next, he made Princess Dora’s dragon form. Then Fright Knight’s Horse. Then he made Lilith, a black cat he and Tucker gave Sam for her forty-fifth birthday. And just for shits and giggles, he made this one weird creature he saw in the ghost zone that had one too many legs and looked like a five-year-old’s drawing of a horse…if said five year old never saw a horse.
Damian shrieked with glee, grabbings as much of the figurines as his hands would allow.
Danny didn’t really know if the flailing his brother did actually had a purpose to it or if Damian just really liked smacking Cujo and the weird horse ghost together. He was content, for the most part, to watch. He laid on his side, head propped up by one arm, his free hand grabbing a figurine and engaging Damian in whatever storyline he conjured up.
Lilith the cat charged against the horse-ghost with a roar. Damian laughed, sacrificing the horse-ghost to his cruel fate and summoning Dora to fight at Cujo’s side.
They played and laughed and giggled. Lilith the cat fought bravely but was felled by the mighty cow. He blew raspberries into Damian’s mouth as revenge, much to his brother’s annoyance. Sullen little Damian hit him on the head, and Danny acted out his tragic death with such drama that would make Mr. Lancer proud.
He was too good, apparently. His fake death fooled Damian so well that he started blubbering.
“Dah— Dah!”
Holy shit was he trying to say his first words?
Danny bolted up. “Come on, Dami, you can do it! Say ‘Danny.’ Dan-ee.”
Damian floundered over the sounds, testing the shapes. “Dah— Daaah—”
“Yes. Yes?”
“Daya!”
Damian’s face shone with pride. Danny didn’t have the heart to correct him.
He admitted defeat with a sigh. “Yeah. That’s right, bud. Daya.”
One day. One day he’ll get someone to say his name right.
III. Rivalry
Danny was fourteen and Damian was now seven. And every day he wondered how his little brother went from a cute, giggling baby to a brat out of hell. He was snooty and arrogant. The second Damian beat someone in a spar they were no longer ‘worthy’ of his consideration. Skills were flaunted with no thought of humility. Servants treated as just another part of the background.
And most of all he was so god damn stubborn.
Danny stopped running and turned around, hands on his hips. “Damian stop running and take a break.”
Damian stumbled to a halt, panting viciously. He wiped the sweat off his face with the back of his hand. “No, I—hah!—can still keep going.” Though his green eyes burned with resolve, Danny could see the way Damian’s knees shook and how he kept inching towards the cluster of trees to their right.
Danny, seeing as how mother put him in charge of Damian’s physical fitness for the day, decided to be the responsible adult. “No. You can’t. Now sit your but down in the shade before I make you.”
“You don’t have to tell me what to do, Danyal. I can take care of myself.”
Danny sighed. There was a time, once, that Damian would gleefully call him ‘Danny.’ But one day it just— stopped. Ever since then, it was ‘brother’ or ‘Danyal’; the names said with aloof politeness or hissed behind a snarl. Damian’s stubbornness streak manifested around this time too. As well as his tendency to push himself too hard in his training.
Danny blamed Ra’s. Bastard.
He threw his water at Damian who caught it with one hand. “I don’t have to do anything, but since one of us here is clearly begging to pass out from heat exhaustion—”
“I’m fine!”
“You are not.”
Danny stared down at Damian.
Damian glowered at Danny.
The silence of the jungle stretched between them.
Damian looked away first. He uncapped the water bottle and guzzled half of it down. Damian leaned back against the trunk of the nearest tree and slid down to a crouch, water bottle dangling between his fingers.
Danny carded a hand through his hair, fingers resting at the back of his neck. He sighed. A flock of birds flew overhead.
“Grandfather said that you could run the circuit of Infinity Island three times without breaking a sweat.”
God damn it Ra’s.
Danny scratched his cheek. “I mean, I took my time with it, so of course I wouldn’t sweat too much.”
Damian glared at him. “He said you could do it in an hour and a half.”
An hour and ten minutes to be exact. But Danny wasn’t going to say that.
He plopped himself right next to Damian, stretching his legs. “You don’t have to do things the way I did them, you know that?”
“‘Tt.’ Easy for you to say.”
“And what does that mean?”
“You don’t see it.” Damian thumped the water bottle onto the dirt. “Of course you don’t. Why would you? It’s probably beneath your notice.”
“Damian.” Danny placed a hand on his shoulder but Damian tore himself away, dragging himself to his feet.
“You don’t see it. Have you heard what they call you? A genius. A prodigy. They look at you and see the heir of the Demon’s Head. The pride of the al Ghul bloodline.” His jaw clenched, hand reaching up to fist his shirt. “They look at you and see someone worthy. Then they look at me and wonder why I'm so lacking.”
There are many upsides to being reincarnated with your memories and skills intact, even more so when you’ve lived for hundreds of years.
Here’s the downside to all that: you start forgetting. Once, before he was permanently known as Phantom, and before the reality of his longevity kicked in, Danny Fenton was a younger sibling. And while the youngest child usually got the reputation of being able to get away with anything, it wasn’t exactly true for young children born into the family of the exceptional. His old parents were certified geniuses, pioneers of the scientific world. They tore a hole into a parallel dimension for god sake. Jazz, though not as interested in engineering, was in the same caliber. She got the highest score on the C.A.T test, was already being scouted by Ivy Leagues when she was a sophomore in high school, and eventually made a name for herself in the psychiatric community as one of its leading researchers.
Sure, Danny moonlighted as a hero. Sure, after the disasteroid there was a statue of him in every capital in the world. But before all that happened, there was a time when Danny was desperate to catch up to the high bar his sister set. And there were many more times when he failed to measure up.
Danny didn’t realize that he was putting Damian through the exact same thing.
“Damian…” He needed to say something. Anything. “Is that why you won’t call me ‘Danny’ anymore?”
Not that.
Damian clenched his fist, turning away from him. “I don’t need your pity, Danyal. I’m going on ahead.”
His little brother ran further into the dense jungle.
Danny watched him go.
IV. Separation
Damian was ten and he was seventeen when Nanda Parbat came under attack. An attempted coup by their grandfather’s old pupil Slade Wilson.
Their casualties were many, amongst them being Ra’s al Ghul himself, dying but a few feet away from the Lazarus Pit and body too damaged for it to be of use. Damian cried over their grandfather’s body. Danny pulled him close, burying his silent tears in Damian’s hair. He had no love for Ra’s, but the man was his grandfather, his family, and Danny will mourn him all the same.
Their mother pulled them both in for a hug and held them tight.
There was no time to mourn.
Plans are made, arrangements are settled, Damian was not happy with any of this.
“I want to come with you.”
Mother answered with a curt “no.”
Damian bristled, hands curling into fists. “But Danyal gets to go! Why do I have to stay in Gotham?”
“Your brother is older,” their mother said, voice spilling honey, saccharine and sweet. “And you are still young. You will be under your father’s protection in Gotham, and he will ensure your safety.”
Her words left no room for further questions.
Damian, still unsatisfied, sulked. He tucked his knees beneath his chin and curled atop one of the many couches bolted to the floor of their ship. “It’s not fair,” he said.
Danny sat down beside him. “Life’s not fair.”
“I’m his grandson, too. I should be given the chance to avenge him as well!”
“Danny poked Damian’s forehead. Damian scrunched his nose in annoyance. “I think it’s because you’re his grandson that mother felt the need to bench you.”
“What?”
“Well…think of it this way: If something goes wrong and mother and I don’t come back from this—” They both simultaneously knocked on the wooden frame of the couch. “—then the League of Assassin falls to you. Someone needs to carry on the legacy.”
“But why leave only me? Why not leave the both of us to ensure both heirs are safe?”
Danny strong-armed him closer, mussing his hair despite Damian’s shouts of protest. “Aww, are you worried about me?”
Damian tried to shove him off. “As if. Now let go of me!”
“Only if you call me Danny.”
“Never!”
Danny laughed. “Come on, just this once? Might as well hear it before I die.”
He felt his brother stiffen beside him. “You won’t die.”
Grinning, Danny said, “of course I won’t.”
Damian held his gaze, green eyes intent and bored into his own. “You won’t die.” He spoke the words like a conviction, a reassurance.
A reassurance for who? Danny couldn’t say.
He shifted his hold into a proper hug. “I’ll come back, Damian. I promise I will.”
V. Sacrifice
Damian pointed his gun at Deathstroke.
Deathstroke held a gun to their mother’s head.
Danny stood behind a nearby pillar, watching.
All his powers were useless when he truly needed them, either too weak in their manifestation or locked away who knows where. All he could do was stand in the shadows and wait for an opportunity to strike.
Damian lowered his gun.
Deathstroke shifted his aim to the space between Damian’s eyes.
Danny could see his mother tense. He dashed forward with inhuman speed
No.
He would not let this happen.
Everything moved at once.
Deathstroke fired the bullet. His mother escaped her captor’s grip and threw herself in the bullet’s path. Danny pushed his mother away, taking her place, and catching the bullet in his chest.
“No!”
The wind was knocked out of Danny’s lungs. Punctured. Probably. Fuck. He collapsed, head slamming against the rocky floor.
He wheezed, groaning as Damian ran to his side and cradled his head. “You idiot!” Damian cried. “Why did you do that? Why?”
Danny coughed. Could feel the blood gathering in his lungs, choking him. He didn’t know what to say. What could he say? “You’re my brother.”
His tongue tasted like blood. He was dying. Danny was honest to god dying again.
That pain was somehow more bearable compared to hearing Damian’s choked sob.
I’m sorry. I’m sorry, he wanted to say. I’m sorry I couldn’t have been a better brother.
His strength failed him, in the end.
Danny closed his eyes.
(Damian goes off to defeat Deathstroke but does not kill him. Talia took the broken corpse of her son and placed it in the Lazarus pit.)
(The body sank into the murky green waters.) (It does not rise again.)
+1. Brother
Damian does not like Dick Grayson.
Though as Damian understood it, it was very difficult to dislike Grayson— at least for long. His dislike for the man wasn’t for any particular reason, really. Incessant and exuberant displays of affection aside, Grayson was very easy to be around. He was accepting, he was kind, he was funny. Accepting his attempts at friendship would also be a great strategy to better integrate himself into the Wayne family.
Damian slapped away Grayson’s attempt to ruffle his hair.
Grayson backed off, arms held up non-threateningly. “Chill, Dami. Stop being so antagonistic all of the time, we’re brothers for goodness sake.”
Damian snapped his teeth, features twisted into a scowl. “We’re not brothers.”
“Uh, yeah, I’m pretty sure we are. Got the paperwork and everything.”
“We are not brothers!” Damian snapped up, surprised at his sudden shout. He dug crescent-shaped indents into the soft flesh of his palm. “Just— leave me alone, Grayson. I already had a brother. I don’t need another one.”
Damian stalked off, shutting himself in his room.
“You should be nicer to them, you know,” His brother’s specter said. He stood in front of the large, floor-to-ceiling windows at the end of the room, sunlight filtered across his hair, tiny dust motes floating.
I know.
This ghost— This strange inversion of his brother’s image had been haunting Damian for the past few months. At first, it appeared as a shade. A shadow that lingered at the corner of Damian’s eyes but disappeared as soon as he turned to it. Grief, Damian figured it was. A manifestation of his own guilt. He ignored the phantasm of his brother most of the time, and most of the time his brother would simply leave on his own.
One day his brother’s ghost vanished. Damian had breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that his hallucinations stopped. Then, three weeks later, it came back. Stronger. Bolder. It moved around the room like a curious wraith, green eyes watching. He would smile, would laugh, and he would talk.
Damian could almost pretend that his brother was alive.
Almost.
Willing away this phantom had no effect, so Damian settled to just glaring at him. “Go away.”
“After I came all this way to see you?” His brother clenched his chest in mock-hurt.
Damian palmed the batarang he kept hidden in his sleeve, the cold, sharp metal grounding him. He was tired of this. So, so tired. “You’re not even real.” He threw the batarang at the ghost, expecting it to phase right through and embed itself in the wall.
The ghost caught it.
Astonished, Damian could do nothing but stare at his brother. His brother.
“Danny?” His throat tightened. His eyes had begun to mist over but he blinked the tears away as quickly as they came, afraid that if he tore his gaze away now, the illusion would break. “Is that you? Is that really you?”
Danny stepped forward. The floorboards beneath him creaked.
Damian barreled across the room and enveloped his brother in a hum, nearly toppling the both of them over. “Danny.” He buried his head in his brother’s midsection. Solid. Corporeal. Real. “You’re back. You’re back!”
He saw a flash of light behind his eyelids. Felt warm arms wrap around him. Damian looked up to see Danny— his Danny. Not the strange inversion. Not the ghostly incarnation. Him. His brother. His family. Real. Here. Alive.
“I promised I’d come back, didn’t I?”
“What took you so long?” His voice was muffled against his shirt.
“Coming back from the dead isn’t exactly easy, squirt. It took a long time. I had to call in a lot of favors, kick a bunch of people’s asses, you know the drill.”
“You did all that because of a promise?”
“Of course.” Danny smiled, pulling him closer. “You’re my brother.”

Sub au of my Danny as Talia au. Danny leaves League when they're pregnant with Damien but not to go to live with Bruce but just leaves.  Bruce and Danny get into a fight before Danny can really say anything about them being pregnant. In this AU Damian is conceived while Bruce is training with League of Assassins before he becomes Batman. So Bruce has also finished his training and he leaves to go back to Gotham.
The normal Canon happens but instead of Damien being sent to Bruce because of the league, they find out after Tim meets Damian at school.there is a Buddy program that goes on that both of their grades are doing and Tim and Damien get teamed up. Damian canonically looks a lot like Bruce so I'm imagining Tim just taking a double take.
Danny and Damien used to travel a lot when they were younger to keep the league off of their Trail but later settle in Gotham because the league isn't allowed there anymore without angering Batman and to let Damien have some of his Heritage to his father.
When Bruce finds out that Damian is their kid and the fact that Talia left the league, he is instantly at that house and begging to be able to help raise his kid. When Bruce does the digging that Talia has not been killing anyone or even doing assassin things, Danny is just doing info brokening, he is really happy.
When Bruce introduces the family to Talia only Alfred knows that she used to be an assassin. As far as the kids are aware this is one of his socialite exes. Danny has trained Damien with a lot of League skills  but not any of The Killing just self-defense. Danny has also told Damian that his father is Batman but neither Bruce nor the kids know that. all of the family is trying to keep a secret from their new youngest well Damian is telling his mother stories of the family coming up with the most ridiculous excuses.

More Danny as Talia ideas.
I think Danny would see themself in Damien a lot when he first starts as Robin. The young vigilante thing is probably something that Danny would not want at all due to how much pain Danny was in when he first started. I feel like Danny started Phantom because he felt guilty due to being the reason the portal opened and I think he would hate Damien starting even younger than he was.
Damien is definitely introduced to Sam and Tucker at a young age. They are his godparents. Damien grew up probably thinking they were either under their mother's command which is not wrong due to team Phantom or he would think of them as caretakers when he was younger.
Ellie would have trained Damien while she was still in the league. Ellie was definitely Damian's favorite trainer and when she left / faked her death he was really hurt.
Sam, Tucker and Ellie all live together. Danny goes  to visit them when they complete missions early. The place they live at is said to be a personal safe house for Talila and Damien probably knows it as the last resort place to stay.
I believe at a young age Danny started to siphon the power off of the Lazarus pits or at least Ras personal Lazarus pit. When it started out as Danny personally taking the power for themselves when they're tired and eventually they continue doing it out of spite.

Polaris meets constellation
Damian was quite confused. For all Mother spend time with him, it is usually overseeing his training or the two of them talking in one of their rooms. Mother never takes him out of Nanda Parbat.
Mother makes it sound as if it's a birthday gift. His birthday was 3 weeks ago, Damien knows mother knows it was 3 weeks ago, she was there for the celebration.
Damian can feel as the plane touches down onto the ground. Mother makes no show of asking him to follow her; she knows that he will.
Damian doesn't think that he's ever seen mother outside of Nanda Parbat.
They seem to have landed in a forest. The entire Forest is a sea of lush greens and browns. He can hear animal noises he has never heard before. He hopes that he can see one at least on the way back.
He doesn't think that they're anywhere close to Nanda Parbat. Damian tries to stay close to his mother. He didn't know how long they will be walking but he suspects it will be a while.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They come across a house that is not big by any means but it's not quite small either. It seems to be made out of wood, probably built with the same materials that are in this Forest. It looks quite old.
Mother knocks on the door. Damian doesn't know why he's surprised that she did that, it means there are people in the house if she's trying to be polite.
The person that opens the door seems to be a woman. She has long black hair that is pulled back into a braid. The woman seems to be wearing some sort of black and violet wrap dress. Damian can see chains wrapped around her waist as well as her neck.
He believes they are some sort of fashion statement.
Mother and the woman just stare into each other's eyes for a moment before the woman turns to look at Damian. she looks him over then turns back to his mother and nods.
the woman steps away from the door signaling for them to walk in.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As Damian walks in he seems to notice how it's not the headquarters that he expected. It seems to be an actual home. There are photos up on the walls of a man, woman and child. there seems to be no pictures of the child younger than five in the entryway.
The man in the photos has a darker complexion and seems to wear Egyptian style clothes in all of the photos. The woman that let them in seems to be the woman in the photos.
The younger child seems to catch his attention. She looks like a young girl. She seems to have dark brown hair and has the same green eyes as him, the ones he shares with mother.
Mother tells him to sit on the couch and wait for her there as she goes to talk to the woman in the kitchen. Mother does not tell him what they will be talking about.
As he looks around the living room he notices more pictures than the ones that were in the entryway. The ones in the living room also have his mother.
His mother seems to be smiling. He hasn't seen his mother smile since he was five. As he gets older he notices that more and more.
His mother looks happy in the photos.
She looks young as well.
There's a photo close to the window that has the child in his mother's arms. this seems to be the only photo of the child as a baby it would seem.
The baby looks like the ones that he sees in the baby photos that mother used to show him. He knows she didn't mean for him to remember he was quite Young, sometimes he thinks the memories are a dream.
Damian remembers how his mother used to always dismiss the nurses and just rock him back asleep when he had a nightmare.
Before he started training she used to kiss his forehead whenever he presented her with something; whether it was a small rock he decided was pretty or it was a new blade he had been gifted by a league member on her staff.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As he hears movement coming towards the room he sits down on the couch.
The person that walks in isn't his mother like he thought it was, Nor is it the woman that he saw at the door. He believes it's the young girl from the photos.
She seems to be 12, maybe 13. He was correct when he thought earlier that she had mother's eyes.
He hates the jealousy that he feels when he makes that thought. Mother always told him he looked like a father but mother the one who raised him it's logical to want to be closer to her. Even if it's just in looks.
The girl looks shocked.
He does not know if it's because there is someone in the living room or if it's himself that she is shocked by.
she seems to shake her head to snap out of it.
He's never seen someone express so much emotion on their face.
She walks up to him and says “hi”
Damien Hesitantly replies “hello”
Just after he replies, Mother walks into the room with the woman from the door.
Mother is smiling. He hasn't seen mother smile in a long time. He thought the picture from earlier would be the only one he would see.
“Habibi, this is your sister Eleanor“
Damian had been making the connection since he walked in from the door but it's very different when it's set out loud.
He didn't expect his birthday present from mother to be a sibling.

Nightmares of the past
Danny could feel the electricity under his skin. his eyes felt like they shouldn't still be solid and the hair on every limb was standing upright. Danny wanted to pass out but the pain wouldn't let him, the energy wouldn't let him. He didn't mean to turn it on, if this was the price he would rather the machine be destroyed. his parents were such idiots to have the on button on the inside. whose idea was that anyway. Mom or Dads. it felt like it was eons of Danny feeling the pain waving over him. but once it stopped it had been seconds.
Danny could finally close his eyes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia Al Ghul woke up out of breath.
Talia hated those dreams. Even awake from those nightmares, she can still feel the energy that killed her the first time. Talia got out of bed quicker than she was supposed to. She almost passed out onto the floor. She studied herself on the post of her bed. Talia took a couple deep breaths. she was happy no one could see her in the state of panic she was in now. The only thing that would make her feel better was to see her son.
Talia decided to look in the mirror to check if she had been crying. She didn't think she had but sometimes she doesn't even notice. Talia looked in the mirror. She had been crying, probably in her sleep. She was glad she checked the mirror.
Talia went to the bathroom to Splash her face with water hoping that would get rid of the puffiness that showed the result of her nightmare. She hates getting these nightmares in the middle of the League.
All Talia wanted to do was hold her son in her arms and talk to him about constellations. He was old enough now that he would probably not remember these moments but they could be something that she could cherish. She could hold him and pretend that she was a normal mother with a normal child. Not an assassin that gave birth to the heir of the demon head. Talia could pretend for just a moment that she didn't have to be an al Ghul that she could be a Fenton again.
